I'd here we go and it's time for fasttrack. And let's see on one side of the coin, we've got John Lynch you doing all right. So on one side of the coin, the the, you know, the Ryder Cup is going to go on this weekend in France. Okay. On one side of the coin, tiger continues where he left off last weekend and dominates Europe in the Ryder Cup on the other side of the coin. He reverts back to what he was before last weekend. Just a guy, call it in the air. Go tiger. Now, he's just a guy. Wow, that's. We're probably going to lose do we always lose the Ryder Cup, we lose it more than we went. Okay. Yeah. All right. When you we gotta beat Europe, fouls on Tuesday, Richard Parsons, a longtime Time Warner executive was named the interim chairman of CBS's board of directors. CBS is in turmoil. After les Moonves says, was outed as part of the metoo scandal years ago, Parsons was named the interim CEO of the clippers. Wow. After the Donald sterling fiasco. So twice, he's a professional. He's a fixer twice in the last decade. Dick Parsons has taken over two huge businesses temporarily. It got me thinking, let's say you could take over any job in the world temporarily. You would be in charge for six months, but you would be allowed to make all the decisions and implement all the changes you wanted to. What job would you pick. It's kind of easy. President of the United States really. What, what is it example, one of the changes you would make are one of the things you would implement? I would immediately. What would I invite all teams to the White House? And they would come. Wait a minute, you everything troll of the free world, and that's what you would do. I want championship team. You gotta come to the White House. Are you gonna come to the White House. Why don't wanna get? I don't wanna get political, right because I don't like the. Could you could. What's the a political answer to that? No, no, I I think that you, you could legalize gay marriage, which I think he would be in favor. It's already done. No, no, but not in in it's a state issue, right? No, no, it's federally done. It's what you married in any state now, married, I'm single. I'm a bachelor. You are not a bachelor guy for ten years still on preserving my option. Dot preserving, you're gonna do better than you're keeping what you got is what you're showing. Absolutely. Q. I think you could do better than what you're doing now. I've got. Yes. What donuts you're going to order. All right. Johnson tried that. That was a states rights issue. Why we're fallen off the track? No, no, it's the supreme court mate. That decision. All right. John do a second one because I've lost fasttrack on my page. I don't know why and how that happens. All right. I've too many windows open okay to women face felony. Drug charges after DEA agents in Georgia found that they were selling marijuana, edibles at a church event, ebony Cooper and Leah Presley both twenty six were openly selling the t h c laced baked goods at an event while the church was hosting for all local entrepreneurs, they said there were various types of cereal treats brownies pudding for sale. Now we'd sitting to listen, yeah, we'd is not legal in Georgia, but here's a question. Weed is legal in California. Should people be able to sell pot. Brownies at a bake sale as long as you tell people that's what they are or should sales be limited only to licensed dispensaries. Sales should be limited to licensed dispensaries. I don't wanna see the kids with the card table selling when this jolts eight, presumably do other dolts. But you don't think that it should be that you're not for that much of a free market? No, no, no, not for that. 'cause 'cause you don't want no matter what you don't want any of these products cannabis products in the hands of kids. Right, right. That's what you want to avoid. I'd I'd rather have it. There'd be an ID check, etc. With kids, I will say to I, although I did use edibles after my neck surgery, and I really think it allowed me to avoid Percocet and Oxy in the different drugs from going full Brett farve right from from using an opioid, but I generally don't trust edibles. I think edibles are very inconsistent. How so? I think every. Little piece of candy or cookie or whatever that is. I don't think there's any way for the maker to know exactly how much h see there is in any of it. So one piece of candy you could be blitzed another piece of candy. You could get no sense whatsoever. So I just don't believe in edibles until they get a little more regulated in a little bit more standard, standardized, just my opinion. I know while tack like brownies and stuff you get to all right, John time for a little Steve Mason. NFL trivia Jay can play Greg's in the can only five quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era have been elected to the pro football hall of fame without winning a Super Bowl. Okay. Who are they? Dan, fout. Dan Fouts is one of them. Yeah. Read Marino Dan Marino's too. Steve Young won a Super Bowl trying to think of other elite quarterbacks Fouts Marino I'm picturing thinking about Super Bowl losers, Jim Kelly, Kevin, Kelly went there four times. That's a good one. Now the Super Bowl loser went there three times Super Bowl, Lamar. Plantar in very good. We only got one more right. And the last one. Plot era eighties k. One of the first. Superstar black quarterbacks, Warren Moon, Warren Moon is absolutely right. I also check gave us some pretty specific. That was pretty all right. Let's do this one. Jason McIntyre who runs the big lead website was uncon- Callard show the other day and at an interesting take about Baker Mayfield k. here's what McIntyre said quote, did you see after the game? He runs off the field excited. Maybe five minutes later comes out of the locker room to go in the NFL network said, and he has his phone in his hand. That was the number one thing I noticed. I was like, what when you look at NFL quarterbacks after the game, they don't have their phone. Baker mayfield's I thought was man. I got this win. I gotta go on social media and see what people are saying about me and quote is McIntyre right? Is it a bad look for Mayfield to have his cell phone with them on the field, five minutes after a game? Well, here's the thing. Are you do. We know he was on social media, or was he perhaps getting text messages from France? Probably both. Yeah. I mean, I look moments like that you want to be able to hear from your friends. I mean, who knows his mom? Probably texted him. His dad probably texted him his, I don't be a siblings, but as siblings probably texted him, all of his best friends from high. I don't see. I don't have any issue at all with with right in your phone after you win a big game, let me tell you as long as he didn't sit there and look at it while he was on the set of. No, he didn't. Baker Mayfield is twenty one or twenty two years old. The phone is permanently attached to everyone every twenty. I'm surprised he didn't have it while he was on the sidelines, right? These kids, like if I want to get my son's attention, I just threatened to takeaways phone immediately likes in. I mean it that is as big of a part of their life as anything. Of course, they're going to have their phone five minutes after their phone. Is like there right? Audible, wait a minute, isn't your phone your right arm? I'm not as bad because I'm older. Like I've played golf this morning and never looked at my see. I'm on my phone all the time. That's why we like Greg. And I say that if we played that phone stacking game, we were out to dinner. You end to paying every nonstop? Yeah. Like if I don't have my phone, I feel like I don't. I'm disconnected from the entire world. If you were phone free. Yeah. Like I can't even remember what it was like before you had your phone. Well, what trains the thing is. So there's two things that I think of when I pick up my phone. Yeah. After like today, I had it off for five hours then I picked it up and there's two things I'm thinking. Right, never one. I hope we didn't get into some international incident. Right? Just leave that blanket. You know, you look at it the internet, you know, blah, blah, blah, and. I always think if I've been disconnected for that long that somebody big in some sport has been traded. It's true true that you know that that it could happen. But I I can find out about that story. This thing is I don't ever talk on my phone ever. I don't make phone calls. I probably use my phone as a phone every day. I don't ever use my phone except a couple of times a week. When I talked to my mom, I don't like talking to people on the phone. I talked to Greg, I talked to Greg on speakerphone every day when I'm driving in. But that's it. I talked to Greg, my mom. That's the only two people I talked to on my phone. I don't need to tell you which one is more important than chat me obviously. Yeah. You according to a new study by j. p. Morgan Chase, the average Uber and lift driver is now making an average of seven hundred eighty three dollars per month. Cast seven hundred eighty three dollars a eight hundred x amount right for driving Uber or lift. They have no benefits. Would you support Uber and lift drivers? Unionizing. Eight hundred a month. Some unions are excellent. You and I are required to be in sagged this job. I'm proud to be in my union. Other unions, like the teacher's union, I think makes things more difficult for teachers to get ahead. The so it kind of depends on on what the purpose of your union is, but I would never tell somebody you cannot unionize because I think and Hoover in lift might be good examples of this. I think that there are certain companies that will take full advantage of people if they're not able to negotiate as a group. So if they feel that will help that position, I have no problem with them organizing a union. Yeah, that was the original purpose of unions, right? Was to increase wages and to get benefits. And right now, Hoover and lift drivers have are making eight hundred bucks a month and getting no benefits whatsoever. I wouldn't blame him at all. If they unionized, although Uber and lift would just go, they would try to bust any union that that came in remarkable success with Uber. I mean, I've, I've heard other people have had problems with them. I never have problems over lift lease has to. Yeah, all the all the bad guy that Travis, whatever his name was, who was running. Uber is out now. They already that guy. Oh, it's not because of that. I find the. Lift drivers to be better. I find the cars to be newer and and the lift drivers to be better. Kate, let's. Let's see this one. Modern family has been one of the most successful half hour comedies on television for about ten years. Now, it when the EMI for best comedy, five years in a row. The other day, we learn something weird. They've decided to kill off one of the main character. Oh, really? Wanna comedy, do we know who it is? No co. Creator Christopher Lloyd won't say who it is, but he will say it's coming and it's coming next season. It got me to thinking who is the most famous character ever killed off on TV. Charlie Sheen was killed off on two and a half men, but we so heavily reported. We knew it was coming McLean Stevenson remember was killed on mash. Yes, he was, but most people aren't aren't old enough to remember that some. So who was it somebody from the sopranos game of thrones the wire, Ned stark early though, like season one net stark going up and rob star reds, leading reading is it does it? Does it come from that world? They think. Any show ever who's the most fan says, I can movies. You see people like James Caan gets killed in the godfather. You're like, whoa, didn't see that coming, right, right. That's a movie. TV shows. Normally if you've got a great character, they, you know there's no reason to kill him off. Although in furnace, this is the I know people watch. I know people watch, I'm not meaning, but I can't remember the last time even thought of the show, modern family. I watched it because it syndicated I'll I'll watch CNN channel. Eleven everyone. Yeah, I'm like modern fan. I think it's really funny. It's on all really well done. I don't know who they'll like like the the nail will know. That would be the obvious one is because he ever since because Eddo Neal is an older guy married to a younger woman, but he's the highest paid star that show. He's like the Lynch pin of that show like he'd be one that nobody. I don't think they'd kill off one of the kids. No. Well, but think about now the kids are college. There could be like a. You know, and they were quoted as saying, you know, families deal with death, and we're going to deal with it in a modern family way. So I don't know who it be Neil. Oh, Neil. I don't think so. It's got to be Jay Pritchett. That's that guy's name. Jay Pritchett. Oh, Ben. Just texted me a really good one. Really good one. Okay. Kate Mara. Oh, yeah. You the car. That's a great one. Yeah, she gets you. He keep pushes her in front of the train. Yup. And it's no warning whatsoever. Yeah, you don't know it's coming. Yeah, and he did. That's when you know that Kevin Spacey's Franken or would it will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Right. That's the moment you know that his, you know, his desires to be politically important far outweigh anything else in his life. Gus fring but ding, ding, ding, ding, maybe. Yeah. Although we saw that common, we saw Jesse and gain Kristen Ritter when Bryan Cranston just lets her die. A good one. Yeah, probably the most famous and weirdest one of all time is to remember the movie psycho. Yeah. Okay. So Anthony, Perkins, Perkins, the starve psycho at the beginning is Janet Leigh and genitally steal some money at work. Then she gets into a car and she goes on the run and she stays in this hotel or this motel and that's motel right? And that's about a quarter of the way into the movie and you think, okay, I'm looking at this movie through Janet lease is uh-huh. Damn, she's gone. So the lead character was killed, the character that was the lead on quarter of the way into the movie, and it sort of restarted, it's it's been done since then, but never before that was really. A shock at the time. Check your question Mark Lee as a brand new book. I've mentioned a couple of times, big game NFL in dangerous times. He's a patriots fan and he's written extensively about the relationship between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. One of his one of the reasons Tom Brady has reportedly been unhappy is that being a member of the patriots is quote and quote joyless. This is backed up by players like forty Niners defensive end caches Marsh who says that it is so bad. That quote, it made me for the first time in my life, think about not playing football because I hated it that much. She goes on, they don't have any fun there. There's nothing fun about it. There's nothing happy about it. I didn't enjoy any of my time there. You know what I'm saying? Now, March did get Super Bowl championship, but then couldn't wait to get out the door. So here's the, here's a question and you, you've got to choose one or the other cat. Would you rather have a fun career without ever winning a championship or play your entire career with the patriots? You can never leave, but you will suffer through a joyless experience for every one of those years. You get to pick one? I would probably take the first one. I think life's too short to be miserable all the time. And you can still like Phil, Jackson always says it's not the destination that you remember later in life. It's the journey, right? So if you have an incredible career, really, we're asking, would you rather be. Like Charles Barkley, a really fun career and continues to have fun, or would you rather be. Like Bruce Bowen who won multiple titles, but he had to play for pop, right? You know, his whole career so it, I would probably take the enjoyable experience. How about you? I would take the enjoyable experience. I need work to be fun every day, and you know, it's funny how you see people go in there for one year, like Chris long, I'm going to go to New England. Yeah, I get my Super Bowl and then I'll get likely as possible. It must really be no fun there too. Many players have talked about. I'll check. Okay. Last one for me LeBron James will wear number twenty three for the Lakers. Now, many great players have worn the number twenty three in various sports. Most famously, Michael Jordan, I have a list of players who may or may not have worn the number twenty three. You guys tell me yes or no, this'll and these are all players that you guys have heard it. So we'll see. I Steve will serve with us since this is a ram Marcus Peters Rams cornerback Marcus Peters. Does he wear number twenty three. Thank you. Does j yes, Greg, twenty two note. Greg is correct. Yours number twenty two. So he's the only one that's rain. Terrier numbers game. Roger Clemens j. Roger Clemens, the hall of fame. Well, not in the whole thing. Yes. Okay. Steve's ES Greg yell, see, yes. No, all three of you wrong. He warned twenty one his entire career. Stu Lantz Lakers analysts. Do Lance, Greg, yes or no? I have no idea what number he wore. Sure. Why not? Jay? I'll say no going, no Mace. It's my lucky number. I wanted to be true. It is true to Lance wore number twenty three for the Lakers. So it's Greg to j zero Steve one von wafer. Remember old friend von wafer afer. What do you think j von wafer? Did you ever wear number twenty three? I don't think so. Okay. You're going? No, Steve health. I remembered. I'll say yes. Okay. Greg. Yes, the answer is yes. What you should do Mace is just whichever way j goes. Go. Because Jay is, oh, for four. All right. So I'll give you a chance here. J. Cedric Sabaot club said. Yes, you're going? Yes. All right, Steve? No. All right, Greg is. Yes, it is. Yes. Number twenty three. All right, Don. Mattingly former dodger manager. He did not. This would be as a player he wore number eight when he was a dodger manager as a player did Mattingly wear number twenty three I'm gonna say yes. Okay. Greg. I don't remember, but I'll say no. All right. J. I'm gonna say yes, it is. Yes. Done more number twenty three as a member of the Yankees. Okay. Greg, four, Steve, three j to David Beckham. David Beckham the soccer player Mace Twenty-three or no? Absolutely. Yes. Okay. You're saying yes, Greg, yeah, yes, yes, y'all three ready? Did he? We're number twenty three. His whole career. Air Kirsch irc mirc curse for dodger first baseman Mace. Number twenty, three or not. I'm gonna say yes, I you're going. Yes, Greg, I think, yeah. Yes, you're going, yes. Okay, Jay, I'm going. No, I j you're wrong. Eric Harris number twenty. So Greg sixty five j route of it with three. You're just playing for pride. You're like the Arizona Diamondbacks have any after this Draymond green j. Draymond green of the warriors Twenty-three or not. Yes. You're going? Yes, Steve. Yes. You're going. Yes, Greg, yes, yes is correct. Right. And this'll be the one that decided to all right. Metta world peace. Greg, did Metta world peace ever wear number twenty three. Wow, that counts run our tests. I'm assuming. Sure. No, you're going. No, Jay. I'm going. Yes, you're going. Yes, Steve, I'm going, yes, Mason is your winner. He gets the two point bonus at the end when he played in Indiana run our tests wore number twenty three tight, a little secret in that game. Do you know what it was? What I guess? Yes, every time. Well, you don't what the last seven we're yeses. That's so you all the first time for tomorrow night rents play the Vikings ten for little. No, you're Rams. So I've got five questions here may or may not be true. The Rams have three former USC players more than any more than from any other school. Is that true or is that false John? Well, they have Robert woods. They have Nicole, Roby Coleman, and I'm guessing they've got to have another one someplace that I'm not thinking of. So I'm going to say it is true, Greg. I'm going to say it's false. Yeah, it's false. It is Robert woods, Nicole, Roby Coleman. And Justin Davis just renting Jewish. Thanks. I'm one on the board who ofensive Lyman. Roger saw fold is the owner of a professional call of duty franchise called rise nation. Is that true? False, Greg, true. Jay, I'll say falls. No, we had him on. It's true. It's true. By joining the LA Rams Wade Phillips has now worked for almost one third of the teams in the NFL. Is that true or is that false? Greg, he's been non one third. So that would be approximately ten teams, roughly nine rue entertained tapes. I j. I'll say true. This has to be trees worked everywhere. It is absolutely true. It goes Oilers saints, eagles Broncos bills, falcons chargers, Cowboys. Texans ramps. Wow. He's been around Sam shields and his teammate in his teammates at Booker high in Sarasota Florida fought the changing of the school nickname from the fighting Choctaw to the moccasins. Is that true? Or is that false. Greg do for false. Let's go false. All right, j. I think he made it out. I'm going to say it's true. Yeah, it's. Choctaw the since. Ah, hell. And the last one Rams linebacker and you and I are tied by the way grams linebacker Dominic easily has a record label called Neak notes. Is that true? Or is that false. I sure, yeah. Jay, I'll say it's false. So this determines a winner between main Greg, Greg, you said true. I said, true. Gimme false full. Last question twice. There is no such thing as Neak notes the label and I go, I was very tell them. Tell them about it. She make it now copyright it and then sell it to a label. Exactly. All right. There you have it. There is your fast track for today coming up next John. I witnessed something. Truly amazing when I went to the l. a. f. c. game on Saturday. Okay, good. I've never been. It is. Let me let me tell you about the most amazing part next Mason. Ireland ESPN LA. Right. So I got to go to the l. AFC finally on on Saturday and thanks to Seth Burton and everybody over there for for Turk in it out. ESPN NBA. It is. Yeah, it was with the clippers, wasn't he? Yeah, Knicks. I think it is not a normal game experience. So first of all, they have the by far rowdiest section of fans, you will ever see at any sporting event. They did something interesting with those fans. They took a group of them over to Europe. Yep. And showed them how the fans organized their cheers in the stands there so they could duplicate it here. So you say it's working and they have practice, they actually go to practice. It is. It's crazy. They never stop. And what I don't understand is why couldn't that happen at an NFL game. Now, granted, they've got gigantic flags, banners, well, you, do you do exactly what they did, right? You say, do you want to join our our route. For them. It's the the thirty to fifty two district nine ultras that's them Jay. Will you translate this for me in Los Angeles? I wanna Bonda in Los Angeles. There's a band gay, no bar on day. Silt Dr that don't let go. So in Los locos on Helena's they're the crazy LA Inge cave Vinnie Aaron, island tar. They came here to chair. There you go. That is the the song that the thirty to fifty house my Spanish on that stuff. Pretty good. Yeah. It wasn't bad right thirty to fifty to supporter song, and it is just it goes non stop. And for the national anthem, you've never heard people sing the national anthem as loud as they do in that thirty to fifty two section. And I, that's one thing that I, you know, I know there's been a lot of talk about the national anthem. I'd like to get rid of. And granted I have sung the national anthem. I think we should get rid of national. Anthem. Singers, I think people American to set for outdo to go to a game should sing the national anthem. I think there's nothing more patriotic than that. You can sit back and you can watch BB Wreksa do the national anthem or you can sing it yourself. And I think I think there's nothing more patriotic than singing the anthem by the way, if you go there John and I can hook you up, I couldn't no context over there. J I can hook you up to totally completely you walk in. And so we had seats, we'd seats right above the rowdy section. Then they've got a club deck with a pool and an open bar and a like a a restaurant. Then you go downstairs to like the owner's box restaurant bar, free food free drink. And granted, these are the tricked out seats, but it is an experienced, like what I'm expecting at the the brand new LA Rams stay. Idiom which will be more of a club scene. They'll be stuff where you can go like one thing that's kind of cool is one of the restaurants that they have their the club there. It's situated alongside the room where the players and the the coach do the interviews afterwards. So after the game instead of leaving, you can go down have a couple of beers while you're watching the post game, press conference, alcohol and post game, press conferences. Can't be what what could go wrong? Oh, wrong. All right. Adrian, whoa. Drewnowski has just updated the world on the Jimmy Butler situation. Okay, sources. Miami has been the most engaged team with Minnesota on Jimmy Butler trade so far, no traction with clippers and nets. Houston is trying to be creative in its pursuit. You knew Jerrell more. You try and get in there. It'll be a challenge, although not impossible to get any Butler deal done without a third team. So there may be a third team involved too, but it's. Like Miami is in the lead for for Jimmy Butler. Tell you that's a, you know, Pat Riley. Can you put it together one more time. That's the opposite of Michael Thompsons life. Michael was going to high school in Miami, and he left to go to the university of Minnesota. There you go. Jimmy Butler is living in Minnesota with a very big parka and and now he's a maybe moving to Miami, that's a serious wardrobe upgrade. Yeah, that is that is serious. Well, it'd be, you know, in the case of power rally, you can see how another superstar potentially would be interested in going to play with Jimmy Butler in Miami. They're kind of t. ended up and if you missed it a little bit earlier, there's been a lot of speculation that Jimmy Butler wants to play with Kawhi Leonard somewhere. And the truth is. Coli and Jimmy say they haven't spoken in a long time and Kawhi made it clear with Rachel Nichols today that he's sort of made it a done deal that he staying with Boston. And he says, why would he leave? And it's true. Kyrie Kyrie why would he lie? Would he consider leaving Boston? I don't know. And, and you know, I, I don't think it's impossible that Kawhi Leonard could stay in Toronto if they have a good year. I mean, I think anything's possible with these guys. So. This dodger game tonight in Arizona. Yeah, I understand this correctly, right? If they lose it. Okay, they lose this game tonight. Right? Colorado could win the division without the dodgers doing any so negative right now, I'm being realistic. I'm not being negative. I'm Suming a loss. No, I'm saying if they lose, I want him to win. I don't know if they will chicken strips pitching. Right? All star roster plan hat lately, but drip day. I did think. At some point, Philadelphia has to put a competitive product on the field. Right. Is that a Colorado plays again tonight? Well, I mean they, they have a lack of that e were John urgency. There is no urgency for Philly. There's. Honestly, there's no urgency for Arabs ONA. There's no urgency when the dodgers go to San Francisco and there's no agency when Washington goes to play in Colorado for the last three games of the year. By the way, the dodgers are facing Zack greinke key tonight. And I'm just looking at. The players that play Cody Bellinger six eighteen with two home runs. Yes, mining girl doll nine of twenty. Five with two home runs who else has had success Cory Seager by the way. That's one. Justin Turner. Nine for twenty five, two home runs and chase utley six for twenty nine. Now that's terrible. Six for twenty nine terrible. But one thing I always go and look up the pitching batting pitching lineups in the success against Jack Petersen. Six for nineteen. A Homer. It's unbelievable how many times Cory Seager. They miss sure. He's six of fourteen with two home runs off of Zach rank, and granted they've replaced him for the time being with Manny Machado. But I'm feeling like increasingly is Manny Machado gonna be on this team next year? I'm increasingly thinking, know why. I don't think he's delivered in the way eight people expected him and deliver. It seems to me that he grounds into a lot of double plays. I mean, he's been kind of a rally killer. I think it all depends on whether or not the dodgers get into the playoffs and how he does once they get there. I've always thought all along Steve, that if the dodgers win the World Series, Machado stays if they don't, he's gone because they have Seger coming back. They don't need them. They, they definitely entered million, right. In other words, why not spend that money somewhere else with the dodgers just to be clear, he's baton. To sixty seven with thirteen homers and thirty nine RBI's an eight twenty four s but put that into the Baltimore perspective. He batted three fifteen over there with a nine sixty three o p s twenty four homers and sixty five RBI's. So he was much better in Baltimore than he's been for the dodge. Now you'll take thirteen homers and thirty nine and I'll be is take it for three hundred million. Yeah. You wouldn't do that for three hundred million. Greg. Multi-platform Greg. What do you think? I I don't think many shuttle be back here at all. I think he's going to be either the Yankees or Phillies. They're going to offer them the most money and he's going to go to one of those two. I mean two hundred fifty to four hundred million dollars is gonna be way too much for really. We talked about this a little while ago is that in Baltimore that's much smaller ballpark and he was in a situation where he had nobody else on that team. You're down by six runs every game. You can get good pitches right. Down the pipe as they can just pitch to him is it doesn't matter. Here's a. but I think the thing is in John, you think that I am not of the belief that just because they win the World Series, Manny Machado is coming back. I, I think that Andrew Friedman in foreign Zaidi they have mastered the ability to defy any public sentiment. They just don't care. They on. Let's why Kershaw is a flip of a coin. I just don't know because they play it smarter than everybody else, and I don't think it's smart to invest. Let's just say the low end, two hundred fifty million dollars into Manny Machado for ten years, and that's low. It's much more likely to be ten years, three hundred million or ten years, three hundred and fifty million. And I just think there are better more effective ways to spend money. And you know, would you rather I just, I can't picture them spending doing a deal ten years for anybody. You wouldn't do for trap. They have trout, you just said you wouldn't do it for anybody. They wouldn't do it for anyone. They wouldn't do it for trout. I'm talking about anybody that's on the open market. Mike trout is not available anybody, but, but that's different than if you if I, you said you wouldn't do it for anybody. Then I said, would for trout, right? They I said, save Ron. Lewis has a year comparable to trout's in manny's had years like that in the past all of Bryce Harper's a very interesting free agent. He drove in one hundred runs. Yeah, I'm not a big price. Twenty five. I don't think he's getting three hundred million, but he might. I think he's Lester by the way it was supposed to come on today and he's coming on tomorrow. So we'll throw all this stuff at BUSTER. Hey, I wanted to get to this other thing too. Did you see what's going on at Clemson. The quarterbacks with Dabo Sweeney did with the quarterback slam. I saw a little bit of an so it's morning. There's a twenty two year old quarterback there named Kelly Bryant, right? He's been the starter there ever since. Does Shawn Watson left and went to the Texans? He's been. He's sixteen and two as a starter. He's been excellent over the weekend. Dabo decided to bench him in favor of a true freshman. So Kelly Bryant said, I'm out, I'm leaving. Is he a quitter for leaving or is he doing the smart thing? If he knows he's not gonna play. If this kid's a true freshman, he's not going anywhere. This is a band. You should check out John. Okay, so called jungle. You gotta check them out at your kind of music. Why? Not now? Okay. So this Kelly Bryant who's been the quarterback Clemson ever since to shun Watson, went to the NFL is being replaced by kid named Trevor Lawrence Dabo. Weenie Clemson appears to be heading back to the college football, playoff. They are the second best team in the country. Yet Dabo decided to change quarterbacks anyway. The and so they asked Kelly Bryant, why would you transfer? And Bryant said, I'm not discrediting Trevor. He's doing everything asked of him, but on my side of it, I feel like I haven't done anything not to be the starter I've been here. I waited my turn. I've done everything y'all have asked me to do plus more. I've never been a distraction. I've never been in trouble to me. It was a slap in the face. I've been with this senior class for four years, seeing how much we built import into this program. It's tough to walk away from it. But at the same time I got to do what's best for me. And I feel like this is the best situation for me. Is Kelly Bryant doing the right thing laid before you answer. Let me tell you with Dabo said. Here's this coach quote, he's entitled to his opinion, but absolutely. I think we've given them a fair shot. I always try to be open, honest and transparent as possible with Kelly. This isn't middle school. There's tough decisions that have to be made at this level and you have to do what's best for the team. So he's out he's available becomes to UCLA. We could use a quarterback. And he's played four-game Steve. So he he's, he's taking advantage of that new rule that says, you can take four games and then call it a Richard year. So Dedobbeleer Sweeney Duma favor by doing it right now. Maybe I don't know if he had waited a week to change quarterbacks, then this kid wouldn't have been able to transfer. So maybe Dabo Sweeney was doing him a favor. I mean, I don't blame this kid at all either. Do. I mean, by the way, this happens all the time when when that kid max Brown got pinched for Sam darnold, he transferred right away. More players, Richmond? Yeah. I mean, that's what you do if you don't win. I don't know if Jack Sears or Matt Fink are gonna transfer one or the other, but I blame them for doing it because Jay Daniels is going to be there for the next at least three years. Right? And the one thing Dabo's gotta watch out for is the it was. I waited my turn thing the I waited. My turn thing is a real thing like at USC with. That's why they started max ahead of darnold because he waited his turn and they rented to give him the first opportunity at the job. If you start messing with the like if you commit to to to Clemson now and you're in your under classmen to is this kid a freshman get. Okay. So this Trevor Lawrence, the new quarterly pressure. And so this guy goes three years if I commit to Clemson right now, and I don't get the job when he leaves, then I've been screwed over by Dabo Sweeney you, you have to keep. Turns to some degree. Right? And this did get a chance and he might go on to great things. This happens a lot Russell Wilson. Did this Russell Wilson was at NC state. He had another year left wasn't sure he was going to play. So he went to Wisconsin and played and got drafted and great quarterback. Baker Mayfield got beat out by Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech and so- Baker Mayfield left and he went to Oklahoma. And how had he not? He wouldn't be in the NFL, correct. So I have no problem with these kids doing what this kids don't know now, does he have to sit out a year or see, go straight across play next year, not this year, but next end today still have the row or the coach has to approve where you transfer to. I'd like blocked the SEC or block the the ACC don't think so. I think he can go where everyone they're not sure because if that rule still exists, that's garbage rule too. I think players should be able to Lee, honestly, I don't know why you have to sit out a year. Yeah, coaches don't. Yeah. I mean, why should this kid have to sit out of here? It's never made any sense to me. The interesting one is this this Jalen strong thing is really interesting. Greg says, coaches, coaches with blocking kids is over anymore. Good. Yeah, Jalen hurts it, Alabama. That's another thing I would leave him to is not gonna go anywhere to is he's the best quarterback in the country. Yeah, he is going to be there. Jalen hurts. I would immediately transferred to Auburn. Play against Alabama every year and their biggest game. He was twenty four twenty six into. That's a starter won two national championships and they benched him. I would say, okay, Cam Newton was Tim t-boz Bessemer here's at that Florida transfer Daban pay attention to this move towards freshman quarterbacks coaches want a freshman quarterback that they can bring along over three years in for three years. Get them really comfortable really experienced. And if there's one thing to be said about clay Helton right now, it's that no matter how this season goes. JT Daniels will be better next year and even better the year that follows. That doesn't mean this season is. A throwaway freshman quarterback is not an excuse. Well, actually he's been great. He's been great. He's at the reason for those people that say, oh, he's got a freshman quarterback. It's a rebuilding era. Say it's no, no such thing as a rebuilding year USC I hear. I heard some announcer say, oh, it's a rebuilding. You're not. It's not a rebuilding year. You you every year you are competing at USC. There is no such thing as a as a as a rebuilding year. This isn't UCLA. They're going to have a rebuilding period of time. Right now, there's an end. There's into how much rope tip Kelly has. I think this year they're going to let them have a terrible season. I mean, they may not win a game. They maybe this being maybe the worst season in football history. But I think next year after he gets his own people in there, they better be showing progress. But how's that defensible going? Winless hut. Really go winless toughest schedule in the country losses quarterback in week one and. And no, there was no illusion of winning anything the share anyway, winless. Well, I would like to think that they could beat somebody in the Pac twelve like they could beat Oregon state or something. But you know, who knows? And even if they play against definitely their scheduled, but it seems to me that computer wise, they have tough schedule in the country. So I don't know where the winds are. They played their easiest games they met when. I mean I at Colorado home Washington at Cal, they're ranked yet. None of the Washington, obviously, ranked, Arizona, Utah, Oregon. They don't even get Oregon state, Arizona state SEM stand for. No, it's going to be a long s year there. All right. So we just established. We have banned somebody from the show. We've got a banned list. Well, in these bands are you know, we change them all the time. They who did we ban that we let come back. It was Dave mcmenamin way. Why did we ban them in the first place we banned in the first place because he was supposed to come. I'm looking at it right now. Okay. July twenty. Fifth, he was supposed to come on and he's out to dinner with his mom, right? And he was out to dinner his mom and he didn't show up. He didn't answer phone calls or text or anything he didn't come on tied into. And so today you called McMahon because we wanted to talk to him about the Michael Beasley thing, and how did he respond? I cannot no explanation. I cannot. Okay. That was it. Yeah, twice thing. Me once I cannot. Okay. Yeah, and we cannot have you on the show anymore. So who else has banned? We already banned Brian win. That is a permanent ban. Well. The building that had to do with him yelling at somebody else with yelling at Greg, because something about aggregation. I don't know what so there was. There was a story in aggregating story that I told Mason bunnies like, oh, let's get Windhorst on about it. So I texted him and I said, hey, can you come on and talk about this subject? And he goes, I didn't say that. And I sent him the the link and he goes, he got all angry told remote. I'm never going on that show again. Again, I can't believe it. Very permanent Todd, mcshay stiffed us at a critical moment twice. Okay. So mcshane's out, we'll go to hyper. We'll go to Melkite RJ bell done with. Well, you've been waiting to ban him for a long time. Defecit nobody beats the fez. He's given us two straight best bet wins. I'll tell you who I'm never going to have the show. Never. Yeah. That does like seems like kind of a jerk anyone, but I don't think he would come on. That's true. The media on anybody should. I don't think so there on five seventy two Siegel in any five seventy shows. I'm sure he will. At some point, he's not a very, very friendly man. Anybody from the charge. So I would have rivers on. He's good diwho. I won't. Yeah. What we were neighbor right now, we'll do that in a day when you're not here. I think that's the last time we had rivers on today. You weren't this. His wife having a baby that day. Nova we talk. He talked openly about his kids is eight kid eight kids. Yeah, we, we ask them a lot of questions like, you know, what's the number one thing you run out of. Right milk. He said those. He goes a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We run out of Philip rivers on when I wasn't here. Yeah. Oh, you, you should always. You can have any charges you want when I'm not here, Joshua like that the PR gate and there's a friend of mine, so we'll get, we'll get. We'll get somebody and we'll get. Yeah, clipper mania. Melvin Gordon. Yeah. Well, you know, clippers you can have. Oh. Under any circumstances. I don't care who you are Steve bomber. I'm sorry. Why did him on? I? I'd have bomber on and I dipped Jerry West on duck. I'd have duck on Dhaka's. Never been on this show. Yeah, but I, I think we could get him that we don't want them. I I know you don't want sorry. No, no clippers no charges. Oh, and one last one? Okay. Yes, money. Now that is a ban. I don't even know. I don't even know what happened. I would have the money incident. Did you hear Michael Beasley interview with mcmanamon? Yes. He was busy with better with mcmanamon than yeahs. Mani was with really? Yeah. It was bad. It was really, really bad. He did not want to be there. Band site, so she'll ban list Windhorst mcshea mcmenamin RJ bell, chip Kelly, anybody from the chargers anybody from the clippers and has money. Grundell sounds so random at the end and yes, money, yes. And Frank McLintock, Austin Barnes, other catcher. All right. Who's coming in both candidates skis, both candidates ski brothers exa coming up. Now, I got a text from mcmanamon what he say OMG. I'm hearing I'm banned again. Good. Think of it this way. Now you don't have to try and drag him down anymore. Ask him if he ever asks if he can come on, say, I cannot do it. Just say, I cannot. I think I not. That's a shame for him. And this is such a good show for him to all right, Kevin, Inskeep brothers coming in here. Next, we're doing a nother half hour just out of the hearts Mason, Ireland ESPN LA that theory. Very. Hey, it's both candidates to candidates keys for you. We've got both a and b and e, Brian. If this is going back to the Landau Lakers blog days really is the remember the Saturday show that we used to do. All the blame pie where you stole the van. I totally remember that. Wait a minute, settle an argument, Indian, Brian. I say that dodger fans absolutely should should wake up and smell the coffee here that they very much could blow. This Mason says, he's like Kevin bacon. An animal house, all remain calm. Panic level is to my panic level is five. Okay. Now you can say of just as much of a chance to make it as they don't. I was gonna say, it's your panic level. Are you measuring panic over making the playoffs or doing something once you're in it? No playoffs at all. It's making the playoffs. My big fear is that they will not make the tournament. And right now, if Colorado wins out the dodgers would have to go and this is a Suming the dodgers went out. They would have to go to a one game playoff to determine who wins the division. And I'll tell you right now. It makes me a little bit nervous because this team does not do well in high leverage situations. This season, they have been struggling all year. If you're nicer, you're. He's a real, as you say as saying. Well, here's what I have been leaning into panic for the last two or three weeks. You're gonna panic, lean into it. That's what I I've been into maintaining a seven. Yeah. I see. Seven-year conference meter or you're paying panicked meter. Here's I'll tell you why, because people like you people like a Gregg Bergman who hosts multi-platform post-game dodger show. They will always say like, we'll look, Chris brothers. They're speaking that they will. They'll do. It comes before the fall, Brian. Hubris, hubris. I don't even know. Hubris is hubris. Overconfidence cockiness. It's the stuff you put on top of something you like. Hubris. So Huber some my promise. So the HAMAs brother. My problem is the you guys will say, well, look at look at the schedule. Look at the the, the, the run differential look at the talent, all this other stuff. Yeah, that's what I'm looking at it and you just keep looking at these things and you've been saying the same thing for the last like six months or whatever it is, and this should just be running away with it, but they're not like the same stuff that makes you think? Well, of course they're going to win it. How do you lose to a team to of eleven runners since right and polish night, it's the twenty two on the season for one run games after last night's loss, and it gets back to the stats. We've seen all year that when it comes to clutch situations, high leverage situations, this team has consistently performed poorly so weird about it. That is okay. So twenty two and twenty two in one run games. They've at last check like the best run differential in the National League. Yeah, which is crazy that, right? That's, that's it. Haven't run away if one hundred one hundred sixty eight hundred dollars. One hundred fifty seven. Games. You know what's the run differential? It's over. I'm just saying their their that their one hundred fifty seven games into the season, right? And yet all this stuff, it's supposed to point to them being the runaway winner. The nationally west isn't playing out in just for like Andy San to for twelve and runners in scoring position. Last, you know, my ADA who's been great for the last you know month or whatever comes in and throws one pitch one plus one hundred seventy five run. So here's an, here's the thing. So I'm looking at the run differential leaders Houston's number one, Boston number two, both clinched dodgers number three. Unclenched Yankees number for clinched Cleveland number five, clinched Oakland. Number six. Clenched car is number seventy. Cher whole argument has been that eventually talent wins. Eventually Brian's point. We're one hundred and fifty. Seven games in that is is not winning. Two. If needed if needed, they'll play another eighteen or twenty just to prove the point, it's this year point. You are what your says. Their record says. They're a half game in front of the rock hall. Rod Iraqis. I think of, you know, if they get in there, was there still probably one of the best teams the National League. So they they have a good as favorites. They have good statistically they are. They have as good a shot as anybody getting through. But the whole season has just been off like it just hasn't happened lineup with the part all year. Let me throw something Greg, who's on multi-platform. She's demanding many platforms. Multi-platform Greg says, he's enjoying this that he's, he's having fun watching the dodgers built. Sure he is enjoying this. This has been the best thing that ever happened to the fact is I find it to be complete and total anguish watching these games last night when my tonight, any SPN by the way. So everyone can have Mason's misery. It made. It gives up that bomb. I'm like, oh. Right away. He knew. All was out of his hand. Guys walked off the field. They didn't even wait for the guy to swing. To move. It was a very, very fat pitch, and it was an got punished, and I'm not sure you know, there's nothing you would do differently. Some people are saying, why wouldn't you bunt jock Petersen over? They don't do that. They don't do that. I think people underestimate how hard bunting is. People don't realize how hard it is to lay down a bunt where you, but that's not really wasn't not doing. It wasn't a Turner. No, it would be. It was Chris Taylor on tale. It was Chris Taylor and second and jock. What was the last time? Jock Petersen. Bunt it doesn't happen. Never do it. It's not the hardness to do it. It's the fact that they just don't want to do it. It's just not in there. It's not in their playbook, right? But events somebody and that's true. And bunting has shown to be dumb with the analytics and it doesn't make sense. But you also reach a point where if you never do it, then even when you want to, if you think it's a good idea with most of the guys in your Austria, you can't because you can't just suddenly start bunting in game one hundred and fifty seven. You don't get read it and say, okay, we're going small ball, right? It's not how it works. We've done it one way the entire season for the last five years. But let's go small for these last five games. Is there any chance in your opinions and Ian Bryant, if the dodgers miss? Okay, they don't make the playoffs that Dave Roberts doesn't come back next year. His country up at the end of the season. I would be really surprised just because their season wasn't a complete disaster in terms of just the overall wins, and he's a pretty good manager. I'd be surprised, but you never say never. Now he's coming back. Yeah, I think he has to be right in cast and basically said that too. Are you setting the bar that every manager that every year, if you don't win the division, you're gonna be fired. That's the bar waiting ninety two games. Think about this last year. The Yankees took the Astros to seven games in the American League championships. There's there one game away from going to the World Series, and it would have been Yankees dodgers World Series like the quintessential. This is what we all dream of. And right after that game seven, Joe Girardi fired, but that had been building though for a while. What's you're already? Right? And he's like, I don't think there's that, but I'm just basing it on Bryant's comment that you know, they, they really digital. They also felt like Joe Girardi was not using the analytics, and that's why they wanted Aaron Boone who rider stands, Dave Roberts of that. No, Joe, no, he's he's all in. Here's the lineup tonight. It just came in Peterson, leading off playing, left Turner at third Muncie. At second. Machado had short Bellinger and center, and right, grand doll, catching Taylor at short and stripling a not be playing short. Wait Taylor is playing what center Taylor, its second. No, the lions Muncie. He's at first that isn't there. I tailored second. Okay. So in stripling pitching. So. This is the lineup you used to face a right hander. You got jock Turner, Muncie batting, third. So another lefty, then Machado, then you split lefties Bellinger who's got two homers license leaving against a righty because we hates in cranky hate each other dolls. Got two home runs lifetime versus cranky. Chris Taylor, Chris Taylor is an interesting play Muncie and Taylor on the right side of the infield. Yeah, I am not sure why you plug Taylor in there. Robbie needs somebody, but no, keep a bunch. You're right. You need to butter. No key k would Homer last night. Sometimes you wonder if they've too many too many guys, you kind of do they have a long, they've too many options. You can be paralyzed by no, no freeze who's been hot well freeze. You're not going to start against around. No Kemp again there to start against a lefty. Right? But you're but you're starting Taylor? Yeah. Which which is the one that I don't quite understand. I'm not sure why Taylor's in their Malaysia platform, Greg, any idea why Taylor Greg ahead of Kemp Kemp doesn't hit cranky, very well at all. And Taylor has been looking really good against everybody. Recently. He had the big hit last night in the top of the ninth absolute months instead of freeze just because you want more loans. Yeah. Well, yes, because you want more lefties freeze pitches hits against white righties. Why Taylor instead of Kika, Chris Taylor, thirteen lifetime against that cranky. Key k one for six. So there's great split there. All right. No, you go. If you're doing a little bit of the hot hand, it's Chris Taylor right now since he had that four game stretch where he didn't start. He has been fantastic. Yeah. All right. So what happens tomorrow night at the Coliseum. We'll get into that with brain Andy coming up Mason in Ireland ESPN LA.

Hour 1: Hall Pass Denied
What's going on? I take Sam listening to the podcast. Check us out live and Atlanta for Super Bowl week where at the Atlanta convention center, special guests giveaways catches January thirtieth thirty first and February first doors open at eight thirty am local time, it is all free. Lots of head today. Marian Rivera leads the whole fame class while Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens get denied less a-rod. If he and other players linked to steroids will ever get in the hall, plus build running back with John McCoy's and studio whole addresses domestic violence allegations and his NFL future and can the Rams defensive line shutdown Tom Brady and the Super Bowl. Let's get started. Tom day. Let's go not everybody. I still have not not as good as the Campbell's commercials, Stephen Smith, Mexico Herman. I'm Molly Carrim welcome into. I take. Thank you for hanging with us, fellows, how we feel in on this Wednesday. All right. Let's do it ABC always be closing the greatest closer of all time. Maryono Rivera became the first player ever to be unanimously elected to the hall of fame. The late ROY holiday at grimmer tina's and Mike Mussina Olso revoted in huge congrats to everybody -ducted much deserved. This though to players who didn't get in Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens who both received fifty nine percent. Sixteen percent short of the seventy five needed for induction Steve Knight. Starring with you here should Roger Clemens at Barry Bonds, be voted into the hall of fame. Roger Clements should not Barry Bonds, should and I don't take this position. Max do statistics Thisiis statistically speaking in terms of their level of production on the field. There is no question in my mind that both a hall of things I think that Roger Clemens is. You know is is shaky and Tom's in know because obviously the drug use it or what have you that? We allude to PD's we get all of that. I think that he's not is sure fire as Barry Bonds. But I think when you talk about seven Cy Young awards, it's undeniable, and plus he's a champion. So we gotta give credit what credit is doing. That regard. To mean. It's comes out to this situation. Just personal has nothing to do with. What what what? Anybody else wants to bring up about baseball. I think about dairy bombs, and I think about how Mark Maguire was so celebrated and the whole whole run chase and the game of shadows. And and how Mark than Rwanda and and Williams and those boys alluded to an excerpts the Sports Illustrated. If I remember correctly how? Bob was essentially jealous because he was in route to all of fame until he saw these guys getting the alkaloids that they receive and said, oh, so it doesn't matter. You know, that I'm a thirty for thirty guy doesn't matter that I still basis that you know, that I hit percentage wise that I sit up there and I hit home runs. I hit doubles I hit singles. I it doesn't matter that I'm a gold glove at none of that matters. Because I'm smacking roads. So he started doing supposedly purportedly he started doing what ultimately he was doing with the cream and the clear and all of that stuff. All right to me that is entirely different than a guy like Roger Clements who was into retirement, nobody was bothering you. You would ever they were. They were preoccupied with other stuff, and you and your idiotic self sat up there and dared dead these people to subpoena. You dare these people to bring you the Capitol Hill, Dan, these people that want to have some kind of investigation to find out whether or not you were. BDU's? I think Roger Clements should be banned from the hall of fame for shifts bidding that has been my position for years. I have held onto the years, and I will never change in that regard. Because unlike others nobody was bothering Roger Clements he brought that on himself. And that is my position with him with with Barry Bonds, obviously, I feel differently before I get into them. I just want to say about Mariana Rivera. Congratulations E R A plus adjusted ERA just for ballpark in Arizona to kind of level it to your as a consistent stat of all pitchers in the history of baseball with over one thousand innings pitched he has the lowest meaning inning fronting is the best of all time. Right. Was it like point seven it? No. It was it's in the low twos. Postseason ERA over one hundred forty innings pitched is one third that's point seven. That's just regular. So the best ever inning fronting in the history of baseball. When you needed him most got three times better. Even though he was only pitching an inning or two at a time. There's a very good argument. He's the greatest. Pitcher who ever lived, congratulations. Tomorrow. Honor Rivera the first unanimously selected hall of Famer and his well deserved. I'm so glad it's him now, bonds and McGuire. I know you have a certain point to make about that. So let me just say this, Molly, Stephen a lot of people seem to struggle with this topic of bonds in McGuire. And it's it's sorry bonds and Clemens gonna get them of wiring Sosa in the second bonds and Clements a lot of people struggle with this issue. And I this is so clear cut to me. It's so obvious that I think the only way to handle this is to make me in charge. I will make all the decisions about this. Because apparently everyone else in the world that's a hard time. This is so simple. It is totally obvious. When these guys started juicing, oh, you can't say started using its allegedly report. Let me physical evidence. In other words, the guy puts on thirty pounds of lean muscle mass in too short, a time his forehead expands and then his home run to at bat ratio. Doubles at an age where everyone else in history has declined physical evidence is much more compelling than. Direct evidence sometimes over seat from belco. You can forge a receipt from Vacco. You can't forge thirty pounds of lean muscle mass and doubling your home run rate. Okay. We know exactly. When these guys started using Clements was in the Klein was still -ffective pitcher. But no longer the dominant great pitcher of the American League after he'd won three Cy youngs. When he signed a deal in Toronto. And then one back toback pitching triple crowns wins ERA and strikeouts. He was the dominant pitcher in the American League in maybe better than he'd ever been in Toronto. All of a sudden his fastball. The everything's back for Roger Clements. How did that happen duck? Right. Barry bonds. You're right. Stephen, Brian Kenny, and I who now does MLB network have Brian Kenny can Friday night fights on ESPN two. And during commercial breaks at time too. Big baseball fans, we think geeking out we like damn isn't it a shame that bonds missed the steroids era. Look at what these other guys are doing. He's still is good as there. But he's not hitting the home runs bonds, and as usual. He got hurt. And then coming back from injury. You start to see him put up on base percentages guys. Not in the high source because he was one of the greatest in the fives. He wants had an on base percentage. Once he started using over sixty percent of the six hundred slugging over eight hundred hit. Okay. So how does this all out up to whether or not they belong in the hall of fame? It's very clear since you know, exactly when they started juicing you'd have to you have to be a fool not to see it were they hall of famers when they started juicing. Yes. Or no with bonds. It is clear. He was a first ballot. No doubt one of the three or four greatest left fielders in history hall of Famer, Ted Williams. Stan Musial Rickey Henderson Barry Bonds. He's in. It's a joke. Not the put them in. Once he started juicing. He became the greatest hitter who ever lived better even than Babe Ruth. He didn't need that to be in the hall of fame. Roger Clemens was a borderline hall of Famer once he got to Toronto. So that's your judgment, call take what he did until Toronto and say is that hall of Famer I would actually say, yes. In the way, ROY Ray ROY halladay as a hall of Famer he won three side. He was always up there and Cy Young voting. It wasn't a very long career at that point. But it was dominant borderline on Clements. I would lean toward yes. On him based on what he'd already accomplished guys, this ain't that hord. Well, well, listen, it's never been hard for me. But my position is very very clearly has she in Boston. Roger Clemens was ten to thirteen RA live around three six, but he let me to strike out very next year in Toronto twenty one and seven ERA of to you just sit there looking at it when this happened. So obviously the timetable that your point now absolutely accurate right on point. Because that's what we were looking at Roger Clemens is saying what the hell is going on. We have never looked at Barry Bonds at any point in his career and questioned whether or not he was a future hall of fame. Never we've never looked at it from day one. We watched this brother perform, and we knew eat I'm talking about before. Like, you said the terms of the time, you know, Tom. I wanna hold of famous does. A time when it came to him as a home run hitter, which obviously has taken about PD's, but clearly was no issue with him as a hall of fame talent. So I'll look at it from that. But in the end, I'm also looking at a guy that ever that they will in what other people doing, etc. Etc. And they didn't sit there. And excel this by us, and I'm also looking at the fact that again, this guy is running from it and you harassing him Roger Clements, literally defiant. Everybody went up on Capitol Hill with elected officials, embarrassing us as Americans doing everything they can get a photo op within for crying. He's on Capitol Hill going office to offer that and they were sitting there pursuant him. Now, I want to take pictures with. I wanted to do when they went out to quite wanted to get into this before we get out. So I said I was gonna talk about McGwire and Sosa people who would say and Dan Shaughnessy who does who worked with on around the horn love, Dan. But he and he said, basically, if you've cheated you're disqualified, I really disagree with that lots of players have cheated throughout the history of baseball corking. Pat's throwing spitballs and they're in the hall of fame. Right. It's not just about whether you not you cheated made the wrong ethical choice. Many people have it's what's the efficacy of the cheating. How effective was it? Did it turn you fundamentally into something you weren't McGuire and soci- you could see exactly when it started? It turn them into things. They could have never otherwise been the answer is no on them. And they weren't hall of famers. When it started battery bonds got turned into something fundamentally he wasn't the greatest hitter by far of all time, even better than Ruth or anyone else. But he was already clearly a hall of Famer for everyone on us questions. Well, it just because it's not just hire cheating. It's what did the do? We got a commercial break in Alex Rodriguez. A rod will be here later. We'll get into this with him. Ask him a lot of questions. It'll be interesting conversation both Clements and bonds have three years left of eligibility on their hall of fame. Ballot. With your sports center right now, I'm Trevor skills as much as folks wanna talk about change in overtime rules after the chiefs lost in the AFC championship. Casey looked at one area that they could control to make a change that defense two days after the championship game. The AFC runner-up fired the defensive coordinator, Bob Sutton after six seasons in that role. Now Sutton side of the ball gave up five hundred twenty four yards in Sunday's including a pair of go ahead. Touchdown for the pats with under four minutes left and regulations. But this move was made up of much more than just a one game sample under sun. The chiefs defense ranked near the bottom in most the typical categories last two seasons on top of that they ranked twenty fifth in defensively in two thousand eighteen as far as where Kansas City's looking. That's well, he's a colleague about Rex Ryan is on the watch this. According to our Adam Schefter, the former bills and jets had has had six seasons where his defense ranked top five and yards allowed. During his entire NFL team tobacco over the first take to discuss. Trevor thank you kindly. All right. Here's the deal. Folks, Rex Ryan currently a member of our team here DSP and attention to the GPS as a defensive coordinator, according to our Adam Schefter Damien Woody in the house sweater. I'm Steven A. What would Rex do they focus? It looks good focused. I like, okay. Well, wreck stick one. You did. Again, you want. He wants. You looking on bass everyone settled down. I do feel like a teacher with my glasses. What would wreck sue for Casey the he'd make them the favorites to come out of the AFC next year is just that simple. To me. Rex Ryan is a defensive coordinator in Baltimore never ranked less than six defensively. Two years. He was topped one year. He was five another year. He was six Baltimore as a defensive coordinator as the head coach for the New York Jets in the six years that he was there. I mean at least four times he was ranked in the top in the top eight three times in the top. Bob demand knows thing too. About defense we've seen and be Bill Bill to check in a playoff game in New England on a road is head coach of the New York Jets because of how he coaches defense we've seen the jets. Contribute. A lot of things. Do a lot of things positively on the defensive side of the ball in his tenure the problem with Rex Ryan. And the jets was him as a head coach because offense he appeared to be challenged. But as a defensive mind, he's considered nothing short of brilliant throughout NFL circles. And when you consider what we've seen from Kansas City this year knowing what a damn good coach. Andy Reid is how high power that off. That's the fact that Eric b enemy ain't gonna get a head coaching job. I'm so surprised with that. Okay. The fact that he's going to still be there next year in all probability that Andy Reid is going to be there there. Patrick, Mahomes is going to be there that tyreek hill is going to be the Travis Kelsey is going to be there on the authentic side of the ball. You expect the Kansas City Chiefs to be just as potent as they were this year. The question is what do you do? What do they look like if they have any kind of defense and the answer would be they would probably be the favorites. And that's the way I'm looking at it. And that's why I would I would bring Rex Ron on board. In a heartbeat. I think there's a good chance. Rex Ryan improves the defense. I'm not positive though has he kept up with the new NFL. You know, you have to be able to coach against these new offenses and the kind of big twelve concepts that are all over the league. And Rex Ryan was an excellent defensive coordinator. He was not an excellent head coach. That's the way it goes sometimes, but he's not being asked to be a head coach in this case. He's asked to be to do the thing that he has done. Well in the past the thing that got him a hit. Right. Although this is not like two or three years ago. We're going back already some ways last time. He was a D coordinator. The fact is the case defense, Lou underrated. They had at least a typically speaking the best pass rusher in the league. People know that they could get to the quarterback. They couldn't stop the run to save their lives. But you know, what they had one of the hardest ofensive schedules of any team in the NFL. But when you look at the other playoff teams understand they all had like, the easiest, offense or schedules. Meaning the how how efficient the offenses word that they played against the chiefs were like seventh or eighth or fifth or sixth hardest in the NFL. So stopping the run against teams who are going to do those things well as a little harder than you know, when you have an easier schedule nevertheless by playoff time, they seem to do that. Well, again, now, I think a lot of what we saw the problem against the patriots is they didn't blitz. Tom Brady on a lot of teams haven't blitz. Tom brady. It's a big mistake because they're so afraid of what he's done in the past picking you apart. But this year he was like dead last against the blitz. That was a mistake. So but overall the chiefs defense, I think Stephen A, you are underrating them. And I do think there's a good chance. Rex Ryan could make them better than they were. I'm not one hundred percent sure yet his to show that he can still do it in this NFL. But based on his track record, you'd have to think it's an upgrade. Rex Ryan is a defensive survive that make no question about it. This man knows defense and the added experience of coaching in the AFC against Bill Belichick led team at CNN twice a year. I think hit his him even more appeal for the Kansas City Chiefs. I think the to me the biggest question the with the candidate. If you make a move like this p you handle the personality that regimen that restaurant is going to bring do you want all of that? But as far as far as bringing Rex Ryan in as a coach to me, it's a it's a no brainer. You're talking about Kansas City Chiefs team that was literally one drive in overtime away from being in the Super Bowl defense. That was quite honestly, they would almost historically bad. I mean, this was a lopsided the one. This was a one-sided team head. Early on the side of the football. Rex Ryan would come in with a team that personnel is exactly the type of personnel that he's used to coaching which is what which is a three four. That's Bob side in the form of defense coordinator coast under Rex Ryan with the New York Jets. So it wouldn't be much of a transition. As far as personnel is concerned. Rex Ron would bring bring the scheme in that. Those guys hit the ground running a couple of things that need to be said number one. I don't want to hand anything about Rex Ryan's personality. Because that's as a head coach is a defensive coordinator. Nobody ever said a word about his personality Nobu. Here's. No. Here's what I'm saying. Sometimes sometimes, hey coaches, don't like big personalities as a Sistan coaches. That's the point. I was got you. Okay. That's fair. I guess what? I'm saying is if you're Andy Reid, desperate towns. Call for desperate measures you held onto Bob site. And they have no doubt that don't want to chip play the role in Andy Regan Ridha, Bob Sutton, because there was a lot of heat on on read last year after last season to get rid of Sutton, and he held onto him. Secondly, when you look at the defense, I don't wanna hit it. I'm under rating them hell, no twenty-seventh against a run thirty first against the past thirty first in yards allowed to offer. I said it before because stop a cold. Now, they showed up and did something against Indianapolis. And then they couldn't make any stops. When they really really counted. To get the New England Patriots. I'm saying to you obviously Rex Ryan arrives that would put incredible and tremendous heat on Andy Reid. But I'm only saying that because I'm assuming that the defense would be so significantly upgraded that now there is no excuse me. Because clearly this year you can look at. At the defense as the achilles heel for the. You're going to be on your your grossly underrating the chiefs defense. I've talked about it all year. They couldn't stop the run to save their lives. However, not only did they stop Indianapolis dead in their tracks in the playoffs. They actually they actually got to the Super Bowl with their third. Interception of Tom Brady before it was negated by a neutral zone infraction of pre snap penalty. So even there you're sleeping on them. A little bit Matthew. Here's what I'm going to say. This is no slight against Bob sudden. But by not in the same area code is Rex I understand. Rex Ryan is is one of the premier defense. What makes you think? He's still could do it gives you the way the NFL has changed since two thousand. Okay. What you mean? Because def- because coaches never truly leave the game. Even though he's sitting on our said, they are still heavily involved watching tendencies talking other coaches rod guarantee Rex Ryan is still up on all the tendencies that's going on again team. Clinches call Rex Ron ask him about by the way, here's a fencer. As we always bring up, buddy. Ryan when the bears won the Super Bowl and eighty five he was carried off the field too. You know, like that's how import every Monday we got right here in the green room Chapman up with the guys. He's breaking it all down. He's watching all that much. Denver lows Vic Fangio last year that drew defensive coordinator that was two thousand eight his team allowed the third fewest points and force the most turnovers pretty darn good Damian back with us a little bit. Wasn't a right now. I'm Trevor scales. Even that nineteen twenty eight the grizzlies ain't exactly taking with their current roster construction so Memphis breasts decided to open up trade talks with their franchise cornerstones. Adrian Watson and housing is telling us that for the first time Arkansas and Mike Conley are available via trade between now and the February seventh deadline, but that could extend into the off season was also saying that the organization is keeping you the buck with all the parties involved. Organization, you know, has talked to Conley and Gosol about this. And they wanted it, you know, out in the open. They wanted the players to know. And they wanted the rest of the league to know that they are willing to listen now to offers on both players leading into February seven trade deadline, and this is organization that is getting ready to rebuild around their excellent rookie forward. Jaren Jackson junior combined. Conley and are owed over ninety two million dollars over the next few seasons. Some of that money includes good twenty five point six million dollar player option for next season. But based on how he's playing this year might be holding onto that back over the first thing. But the trades big in people the grids will listen to offers for both Mike Conley junior and Marcus all that according to our Adrian woods neuro ski Stephen Lakers. They could use some help. Right. Should they pursue Conley or Saul calmly? Yes, gazelle. No. I don't think that would develop McGee with this kid soo-bok soup. How like a lot of a long with Tyson Chandler. I don't think you need a good soul. Obviously, he's more skilled he's better. But in the same time, he's he's gaining. He's getting up there in age. And I look at Consol who's thirty four years of age not the most let a guy in the world he can shoot shots from the perimeter. He skilled please don't get me wrong. But I just think that's where the biggest need lot. There's biggest need lives. You look at point guard comic looking at Mike. Conley. He's not a star. He's not a superstar. But he's a really damn good player. He's consistent. He's professional. He could hit for women shots. He's if we only play twelve games last year. He hasn't missed a game. Really the. Really this year. He's been playing every game Vitiaz averaging twenty six. He's shooting about forty two percent from the he's improved three point field go percentage shooting as well this season compared to last season a few games that he played, but he's a model of consistency. He's reliable. He knows how to run a show he can defend he's tough. He doesn't shrink beneath the pressure. And I know you can look at some of the guys at the Lakers have and say, why do you need them? I'm proposing get rid of those guys to bring in my colleague because it doesn't compromise what you wanna do in free agency. So if you can have him along with LeBron you keep coups and a heart, for example, and you can still go out there and free agency. I would say you should target calmly. If you to Los Angeles, Lakers, but Nakazawa? I'm a big Mike Conley and Markelle all fan. I think they're the kind of players that you can win championships with how ever under certain circumstances. If here's the issue. Here's who should pursue my com. They I'm going to say no to the Lakers on both noted assault because the league has changed to the point where if you can't defend out in space, and you're a twenty five million dollar player at the five that's difficult and not Conley. Because I believe in Magic Johnson and the Lakers and LeBron being able to attract other high priced talent to LA who was Mike. Conley. Totally excellent. Right. But if he's going to take off twenty five percent of your cap space. He can only do so under certain circumstances. For example, you have an ascendant team with great young talent. It's already kind of like a super team you want to keep them on the roster because you can grandfather and his contract is not like you're taking him on. And now, he's stopping you from signing other free agents, you already have the team you want you just need to pay him. Then you can pay my Conley. If you are a small market team that or an undesirable market for many free agents who said, okay, we got this guy or this is under contract for another year after this year. We're after next year. Let's get them because we can have this good piece in place. You can make a deal for Mike. Conley. Under those circumstances. Yes. But if you're the Lakers, you have all this cap space, and you're hoping to get to at least one, but maybe two top flight free agents that maybe you don't wanna pay Conley. Because that stops you from getting something else. I'll tell you who should go f-. He's at thirty two point five million four million over the next two. That's a third of your capsized, basically. So I'll tell you who should go after my calmly in my opinion. I'll give you one team from the east one team from the west team like Portland in the west why Portland is he an upgrade over Lillard. No. Although he's far better defender. But Stephen has brought up what kind of tradable assets Portland have to get out of this second round purgatory type team that they are. Well, if you could replace Lillard with Conley. And now, you could free up Willard as a trade -able asset. Now, all of a sudden Portland can take a jump because they'd have calmly McCollum. And then they could get someone else for Lillard who would or a lot of value for Lillard a team like that in the east team like Milwaukee if you could turn the job that Bledsoe does if Conley could do that job. Oh, and also he can't go anywhere next year o- or the year after all the sudden, it's like, whoa. You gotta watch out for Milwaukee teams that are on the brink. Who would otherwise have a hard time getting free agents trade for Mike Conley? Otherwise, I don't think that's LA. I don't think LA's right on the brink of a championship as currently as currently constituted. And I also think that Magic Johnson will be able to get a player even better than my calmly and free a couple of things number one. I don't disagree about Milwaukee. I like suggestion. No, no question about it. Because I like Conley with the Greek freak and Middleton and those boys that they have in Milwaukee, particularly being coached by a guy like booting oser who could utilize effectively. So there's no denying that. What I would say, however. Is that when I'm thinking about trade, if you talk to me about getting collie at those numbers, for example, let's use a free agent. He was looking for X amount of dollars. And you were talking about it along those lines. I would definitely dismiss that. I would want that. But if you're talking about trading somebody that means you have to you ridge itself of certain assets to a quiet return. So I'm not looking at the cap affect from that perspective understand where you're coming from. But I'm not looking at, but you have to Stephen because those contracts are getting rid of or like expect it contagious call Whipple. That's expiring. You know, what I'm gonna be on your book? I do understand that. But what I'm saying to you is that ultimately, you're going to have to get players, and you're going to have to spend that money anyway, whether it's on a multitude of assets or the exact trade that you do all I'm trying to say is that when I'm looking at a championship squad as being formulated. He you know, what they might not be the ones that the liver. You a championship evidence about what lack of success they've had a Memphis, even though they've been a couple of conference titles. What I'm saying is they don't cost you a conference championship. I think commonly helps you alone that line. Now, we get to Magic Johnson. And what he's going to do in free agency that happens to be my biggest worry, whether it's whether it's Kevin Durant. Whether it's clay Tom de had what it is. Whether it's Kemba Walker is plausible that Magic Johnson. And rob Pelinka of all people can end up empty hand. If that's the case, then I'm wondering on that make sense, I'll give you one more team. And this is more kind of out there because Kyle Larry's played very well on offense. I wouldn't I don't know if there'd be enough time to get. It together. If you could just press though, change Kyle Lowry into Mike Conley and keep the kind of integrity of the team together going forward. I think Toronto could win at all this year.

Best phones, best networks, no contracts. Lots of stuff to get into today on the football front on the basketball front, and obviously on the baseball front because we start off today's show by giving out a heartfelt congratulations to the greatest closer in the history of major league baseball, a gentleman by the name of Mariano Rivera. I mean, what is there to say? Ladies and gentlemen, this man. Courtesy of the Baseball Writers Association of America, not only as a whole famous not only as a reliever closer to be a first ballot hall of fame of the first. But he is the first person in the history of baseball to receive one hundred percent of the vote in order to get in to the hall of fame, and we can slice it any way we want to. But you know, what I'm gonna tell you why he got one hundred percent because no one wanted to be identified as the fool who voted against him six hundred and fifty two career saves most all Tom thirteen. Tom all star eleven World Series saves a postseason ERA of point seven nine hundred fifty two games finished up. Point seven fifty nine whip. All of that largely accomplished would just one pitch that deceptive cutter. And if you don't want to believe me read, the great Bill Madden his articles in the new York Daily News, not hard to find. We're talking about a guy in my Riano Rivera and the Alex Rodriguez of the world and others point to his character. What he is is a man of faith high conducts himself as a professional. How was off the field as well. As on the field. All of that stuff is fun. And nobody's trying to you know, you don't need to lead on that to recognize why this man is a hall of Famer one hundred percent of the vote. What entrepreneur sent? Because anybody that voted against my Riano Rivera. I'm trying to tell you right now intimate some noise that made some noise there have been on Front Street. You wouldn't have been able to to to hide that you wouldn't have been able to sit up there and give a secret ballot. And no one would've known who you are. Oh, no. If you wanna fool that would've voted against my Riano Rivera being a first of all the fable everybody, you lived in infamy everybody, and their mother would have known who you are. And you're and whatever credibility that you may have had would've Zappa rated in a blink of an eye. Because that's how much of a surefire hall of Famer Mariano Rivera was and is plain and simple now, obviously when you're talking about God's highest percentage of hall of fame votes received. In the history of the hall of fame. Courtesy of the Baseball Writers Association of America, Mariana Rivera was at one hundred percent number two was Ken Griffey junior on the list. Ninety nine point three percent who the fool of voter to get him. Tom Seaver a great pitcher for the New York Mets amongst other teams. And of course, the great one himself Nolan Ryan who is one of my all time favorites. Ninety eight point seven percent for him. Ninety eight point eight percent for Tom Seaver ninety nine point three percent for king Griffey junior. One hundred percent for Mariana Rivera. Those are the top hall of fame vote getters in the history of the sport. And the history of the hall of fame. Now, what we think about Mariana Rivera, and we pay Amish to him as Derek Gina did is Andy Pettitte did as a host of others who did it because every Derek gee, that's coming up at twenty twenty for hall of fame. It'll be interesting to see whether or not he'll get one hundred percent because I wanna see the food vote to get him being a hall of Famer. It'd be interesting to see what happens with that. It brings me to a few other names that did not make the hall of fame. Obviously. Namely, Barry Bonds, and of course, Roger Clements. Now. Let me be very very clear. And what I'm about to say because I think it's very very important. I think it's only right. You know, Roger Clemens and his seventh year on a ballot. Didn't make Barry Bonds his seventh year on a ballot then make Roger Clemens received fifty nine point five percent of the vote. This year have received fifty seven point three percent of the vote in two thousand eighteen Barry Bonds received fifty nine point one percent four percentage points less than Roger Clements. This year last year. He was at fifty six point four. I'm trying to figure out who are the people that are given berry barreds more. I'm sorry. Roger Clemens war Vinicio into the hall of fame. Then then them very once. Then let me be very very clear about what I'm about to say. And I thought my max Kellerman articulated this point very very adroitly off. I take this morning. I take off television show ten AM to noon live every weekday eastern standard time seven than RBM Pacific. On ESPN. Maximum position is this. You know, what you can tell literally when they started using PD's whether it was Roger Clemens the year. He went for Boston to Toronto and went from ten and thirteen record the twenty one and seven from an ER a near four or two you can look at Barry Bonds when his head started swelling, and he started gaining more girth more, mass and alternately became a home run hitter. As opposed to just in a league gold glove. Thirty for thirty baseball player, you could tell when that happened. I go a step further than that. Now does -sarily deeper, but definitely a step further. I am a person who believes that Barry Bonds was a hall of fame before he allegedly presumably extensively started using performance enhancing drugs. I know there are hall of famers out there who believe anybody who used PD's don't belong in the hall with them. I respect that their whole famous if they got the right way, they have every right to have that position. And I respect that. But I'm just speaking from my vantage point the way, I look at it is was Sammy Sosa hall of fame before he started hitting home runs. Hell no was Mark Maguire hall of Famer before he started hitting home runs. No, no. He was not not to me. But was Barry Bonds a hall of Famer before he started hitting home runs? Yes. He was. Here's a perennial gold glove. And he was good for thirty home runs and thirty steals a year. Good for. Roger clements. Well, why would I hope that against Roger Clemens was a couple of weeks? I know he's a seven time side young award winner. Most of major league baseball history. I know he's an eleven time all star. I know he's the league in VP in one thousand nine hundred eighty six American League. I got it one side young award with four different teams, Boston Toronto, New York and Houston. No other pitchers one with more than two different teams. All of that about Roger Clements. I got it. One pitcher triple crown twice lead in wins. ERA in strikeouts. Nineteen ninety seven nine hundred ninety eight. I got all of this about Roger Clemens. You know, what I heard about Roger Clements what hold against him? Some people would sit up there and say dirt all Thomas strikeouts. Career ERA at three twelve three hundred and fifty four career wins in twenty four major league baseball seasons. You know, what I hold against Roger Clements? He was an idiot. Now, maybe that's not a reason Nuno, it's not a reason John to omit people from the hall of fame, and I get it. But there's something to be said for being stupid. You stay where you make a case. About a rod, for example. And we've got some sound Nuno. I hope you can find that sound a-rod on I take this morning, and I'll call on that in a second. But when you make a case for a raw, you could make the argument that, you know, something Arunas saw for two hundred and fifty million dollars. He wanted to prove that he could validate those dollars, but he was balling up to that point which earned him the contract, then he goes to the New York Yankees, and he signs for three hundred seventy three hundred million dollars. And you know, what you can make the case he was trying to validate numbers. He had already accumulated fairly. You look at Barry bombed. What was he doing before it's alleged steroid use? And if the book game of shadows would excerpts were printed in a Sports Illustrated where was highlighting. Barry Bonds purported, alleged PD us, it's specifically states in there that he was balling. He was doing things the right way. And then what happened is everybody started celebrate and Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa in nineteen ninety eight and their chase for the all time single season home, run Reckitt Araj marriage. So what happens? Barry bonds. Oh, that's what we do. Now. John Kerry, see that. That's what Barry Boston. Oh, that's what we doing. So in other words, I'm better than him twice as good as them when they go glove. I'm not just MAC at home runs. I'm stealing basis of base hits. I'm hitting my batting average is up there. All of this. And on top of it all I'm playing defense and y'all wanna act like these brothers are better than me because they still in the hearts of America because they're chasing the single season home, run title, desperate. I'll go do to me. Hell would it? Then I guess I could do that too. That's according to the excerpts in a game of shadows. And Sports Illustrated from the book the game shadows. That's according to the exurbs. So my point is is that what could legitimately argue is crazy. This may sound, ladies and gentlemen. What could easily argue? It's our fault for provoking berry bombs. Now, this the I'm engaging in a bit of our perfectly there because ultimately the president's responsible it's ham, and I understand that. But it all seriousness we can't be completely absorbed from it. What the hell are we doing celebrate? Both folks for any closing is it taking a turn it a blind deaf ear to PD uses. I mean, the the stuff was so agreed this what why Sammy Sosa was doing that? Mark. Maguire showed up to Capitol Hill and forgot how to plead the fifth talking about. I'm not here to talk about the past. And Sammy Sosa who spoke English all the time talking to numerous people in the baseball community and beyond suddenly shows up on Capitol Hill willing to Turkey with her. Like, he couldn't understand English. Couldn't even sit up there and say American been very very good to me. He struggled to say that much. So you got all of that going on? That's what berry that. That's what happened with Sammy Sosa. Mark mcgwire. It'll get me in Sammy Sosa bleaching his dad going skin. Don't get me started with what he's turned into. God rest his soul. But I don't think it's beyond the pale Nuno. John Jay Z anybody else to say that he's putting the late. Great. Michael jackson. The shame in that category. Right now, have you seen Sammy Sosa? They want to attribute it the villa Lago. Whatever the hell it is. They want to I find that look at that. Man. Look at that may. But that's massad the point I regressed let me get back on track. Those guys which and Barry Barnes said dammit, look at y'all celebrate now when they even in my class. So let me show you what I could do if I was doing what they're doing. Because everybody in baseball knew who was using PD's. And who was it? And now what we do what we do is we transferred to Roger Clemens. Well, Stephen a while won't you give him a similar path. Very very simple. Roger Clemens left Boston. His last year in Boston. Roger clements. Was ten thirteen. He wasn't on anybody's radar. He leaves the Boston Red Sox to go to the ronko. Blue jays. And his in one thousand nine hundred ninety six one Boston. He went ten and thirteen with a three point six three E R A. Pits. Two hundred forty two innings. Two hundred and fifty seven strikeouts. The very next year. And he was thirty three years old at the time the very next year. He's thirty four he goes twenty one and seven ERA dips for three point six to two point zero five. And it's pitch went from two forty two to sixty four strikeouts. Went from two fifty seven to ninety two. Anyone saw young? Come on. Now. And even then we still say anything because from a numbers perspective, I find even those relatively suspicious go on about your business. And what does Roger Clemens do? You know, what he did? Ladies and gentlemen, he sat up there. He went into retirement into retirement. They left him alone. This was nineteen Ninety-seven. He was in Toronto. He played ten more years. Highly suspicious will what he was doing. Nobody said a word. And yes, it's personal trainer. Brian McNamee set up there and volleyed or lobbied allegations in his direction all of that was true. Nobody bothered correct me. If a row Nuno grant, we have a role. Nobody bothered Roger Clemens until he dead. Congress to subpoenaed him dead. Congress divide 'em up on on Capitol Hill, there them all he had to do was shut hell up and go away. He was retired. And it's dead. This other. Dad, congress to invite him up on Capitol Hill. Now, if you know anything about congress, if you're a public figure, and you're gonna open your mouth, and they're there to do something like that first of all they do it because you're there, and Secondly, they're going to do it because that's more face tough about television. He's showed up on Capitol Hill. You have politicians who are supposedly dead who interrogate put him through an opposition looking for photo ops. Trying to get a picture with him at every turn. What did you think was going to happen? I mean, they just lost all over them. It was the baris- it. And somehow the way they managed to ask him questions. And then you remember Roger Clements said, I miss remember. I didn't even know that was a word until use it. Misremembered? Got to wife on a cover Sports Illustrated, looking all buffed. Now for the record. I'm not being disrespectful to MRs MRs Roger Clements. She did. Absolutely nothing wrong. If that's what that's what she was doing. And that's what she wanted to do training, Brian McNamee. So that's her business. She wasn't playing major league baseball. She wasn't violating any rules. So under no circumstances to Roger Clemens, and Roger Clements family, am I casting any Spurs on the life or his children for that matter who I'm quite sure wonderful. I'm talking about Roger Clements. And I'm not even talking about his PD PD his alleged PD us, which is religiously did not I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about him being stupid enough to open mouth and them to invite him to Capitol Hill. What about that testimony Nuno John without that testimony on Capitol Hill under oath his Roger Clements hall of fame by now? Yes, he is. Yes. He is. This is a seventh ballot. There's no way on earth that Roger Clemens has left off the ballot for the hall of fame this law if he didn't open his big fat mouth. But because he did he resembled Raphael Palmiero more. So than anybody else member wrap the formula Baltimore Orioles, dead congress and went up there and put it as big in his face. I have never use PD's and subtly we found out about him. And we learn more about be twelve vitamins that we have in our life. Me. You can't make this stuff up. They did it to themselves. Barry Bonds in bite that scrutiny. He didn't do that. Matter of fact, Barry Bonds relatively acerbic to the media from my understanding. He wanted you to watch the show. He wasn't in. Everybody's face small it. He thought he was better than Sammy Sosa. He thought he was better than Mark. Maguire we go tonight. Any what's we all know what atomic is? And listen, I'm different. I'm not casting any aspersions people like, for example, the Baseball Writers Association of America, those who voted guys in fine. Those who elected not to and have a certain standard. I get all of that. I understand. They have that. Right. They cover the sport. Religiously. I'm not going to sit up here question. Great ones. Like Bill mad who I've read since I was a child. He feels the way that he's feel. He feels he's earned that right? Profound respect for him and his contemporaries who have covered the sport admirably for decades. But I do consider. It a distinct difference Roger Clements to me should be omitted from the hall of fame for sheer stupidity. Open and his big fat mouth. Shut the hell up. You were retired. Nobody was bothering you. Go away to sunset they didn't give what guate- adoption they didn't give Sammy Sosa that after they give berry Barth that option. You had it. Nobody was bothering Roger Clements. You want to be all thanked the Monia says righteous and defiant knowing good and damn well, all the evidence was pointing against you. And Brian McNamee said well traded his wife, and then we see evidence which are wife. Buffed in a magazine. What more muscles there? Most of us. You don't think that's going to qualify as some shred of evidence against show? You didn't know? Of course, he did. But see when you privileged enough society? You think you could get away with anything? And the smear that has stained Roger Clements career. Roger Clements is the one person we can honestly say brought that on himself. Now, some of you might sit up there, which has absolutely nothing to do with PD's say Pete Rose. Do that p rose did exactly the same thing rather? I tell you know, pe- role was irresponsible. So would argue amoral and indecent. And obviously the last allegations of his behavior, I'm not gonna get into that. I'll stick to the gambling issue and his banishment from the sport of baseball. And here's what I would say to that Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame too. And less Jaka. Tell me that Pete Rose through games as a baseball player. Nothing should take away for what he did on the field. Zoltan hits leader. The greatest nickname in the history of sports, Charlie hustle, because you were great because you outworked in our hustled everybody. And you produced. There's no excuse for Pete Rose, not being in the hall of fame. I don't give a damn what anybody says. Roger Clements, I got no problem with them keeping about zero just machines depite. Pete Rose had issues. He had problem. Some would say editor disease. Others who presumably cheated are being punished. Roger Clemens was in the clear, nobody was bothering him. And he ultimately ended up victimizing himself because he couldn't shut the Hello. And just go into the sensitive time. Guzm opposition. It never has changed. And it never will. My buddy, my colleague the afternoon drive voice of ninety eight point seven, m ESPN New York one and only also voice it in New York Yankees covering now on the yes network, the one and only Michael Kay is on the line with yours truly right now. What's going on, Mike? How are you buddy? What's up? Mr Smith man is always good to talk to you. Let's let's get right into it. One hundred percent of the vote to me I was leading into it. I was like who's gonna be the fool on the record for voting against the Mirena Rivera. I wanted to see it. It didn't happen. One hundred percent of the vote when you think about that first time a major league baseball history. This has happened talk to me about what doors went through your mind about this man that you covered for so many years while I was happy for him. And I thought like you that that somebody would. Would probably want to make an aim for himself or herself. And I just think that the the goodness of Mariano Rivera, obviously the greatness on the field, and I never ever all the I saw him throw his first pitch. And I saw him throw. His last pit, Stephen. I never saw him treat anybody with disrespect from the people that were the ushers in the vendors at Yankee Stadium. People that mopped the floors in the clubhouse he treated everybody the same. He treated them with class. And I don't think that any writer wanted to have that stain on their all time record that they kept Mariano Rivera from being unanimous selection because you know, we all try to be objective. We try to be right down the middle and not let personal feelings impact the way we feel about somebody that that's actually playing the game. But I think it does. And I'm sure that there are players have rubbed some writers the wrong way. And because of the rule of ten where you have to be strategic in voting. They'll sell leave this guy. Also, I can put somebody else on 'cause you'll get enough votes. Nobody would that with Marianna because nobody wanted to be that person, Mike. Okay, right. Here was even eight years. Radio ESPN news. And when you look at it from that standpoint, I mean, I think to me the message also that the hall of fame voters wanted to send was that. There's a standard of excellence that we're going to hold these folks accountable to but not just in terms of what you are on the field. But what you are on the field as well more. So than any other sport, the baseball writers of America's seemed to be fixated on sending that kind of message and Mel right in order, my right to peel that from this kind of ODI. Oh, absolutely. I mean, they feel that they are the gatekeepers and there's just such. I mean, there's just such different with the other sports hall of fame. Just for instance, you watching Julian Edelman have a great game they AFC championship game. And in the fourth quarter. Tony Romo said Julian element should be in the hall of fame. That's how great he's been in big games. And Andrew Marshon in the post pointed this island thought, it was a great point Julian Eshelman was suspended for four games at the beginning of the year for PD us. Right. But and football, it doesn't. Matter in baseball. It's a big deal. They really do take the type of person into account and with mo-, I think that played in his favor. My who K posthumously or you know, rally, of course, and Martinez and Mike Mussina both elected and as well any issues with them getting into the hall. I Edgar Martinez, obviously was was long overdue. I mean, the narrative that you know, he was a D H. And that's not a full position. I laugh at that. You know, he's like saying Marianas Rivera Mariano Rivera closer. He's not. He's not a starting pitcher D H is a position this is one of the best right handed hitters I ever saw my life. And by the way, own Mariano Rivera. So he deserved to get in well before the ten years that passed, and that's for ROY halladay. You look at that nine year stretch. He was about as good as anybody. He deserves to be in. And you know, the sad part about that is that he's not going to be here to enjoy it. No question. What about you've seen? What are your thoughts on him? I thought he was born line. The fact that he pitched his entire career in the American League storing the steroid era and did as well as he did in ring up two hundred and seventy wins. I certainly understand him getting in. I was a little stunned that you know, only a couple of years ago at twenty percent of the vote. So somehow he picked up a lot of oats in a short amount of time. But I also look into this. Way Steven if he's in why isn't Curt Schilling, and why isn't Andy Pettitte, and why did David Cone get under five percent of the vote now of those four men, I just name. And again, I believe that Messina belongs in. But if you had a game to be started and your whole life depended on it. Whether you lived or died, would you want Messina schilling cone or Pettit? I say a lot of people might say of those four Messina would be fourth year because I'm looking at Curt Schilling right now seventy on the ballot only receive sixty point nine percent of the vote two hundred sixteen Windsor three forty six ERA and eleven and two record with point two three in one hundred and twenty strikeouts. In nineteen postseason starts. I definitely get your point right there. We're talking to Mike. Okay. Right. Here was Stephen ESPN radio. ESPN news Barry Bonds, Roger Clements, obviously. When people take about them both of them were in their seventh year on the ballot. Roger Clemens received fifty nine point five percent of the vote. Barry Bonds received fifty nine point one percent of the vote. First things first are you cool with that? And Secondly, do you think they'll ever get a point where they get in before this vote? I thought they were definitely going to get in three more years. But the fact that they jumped only about a percent means that the anti PD faction has really dug its heels in and they're not going to move. I don't think they're going to get in. And that's also impactful for Alex Rodriguez who said today, I think early with you guess that he's got root for them because if they get in and he's got a good chance of getting in. I'm not sure if it impacts David Ortiz because it's still kind of murky whether or not that was a failed test on the on the baseline report. And what it meant Rodman stood stood up for him this year talking about it. But if I had a vote, Stephen, and you have to be a baseball writer for ten straight years in order to have a vote, and I was seven before I got the radio job with the Yankees. Sorry. I never got it. If I had a vote, I would probably vote for everybody. Even if they were staying with the the rumors. Of it. Why? Because I think there are people that are in the did it that that's skated. It's like the people that speed everyday. But they don't get tickets got. And I'm not I'm not doing if we knew for sure who did it who didn't. And we kept everybody who did do it out that I'd be cool with keeping them out the one line I withdraw and this doesn't help Alex is if you were suspended or if you fail the test. I would not vote for you. Because then you flew right in the face of the rules. The other guys it's kinda nebulous. I mean to this day most people believe that Roger did something, but Roger continues to deny and there's no smoking gun. There's no test nothing. He went to court, and he won his case and still he's being kept out. So the moral police electing to keep him out. But again, there are people that are in there that I'm quite sure did PD's. Well, we could go a bonds and talking about the cream and the clear, and that was proved he'll remind anybody that when he tests for for test, or whatever the case may be an as a result. He's proclaimed his. In some degree as well. Do you view him to say what you've you Roger Clemens? I, you know, the clear stuff certainly makes it a little murkier. But again didn't fail a test. I just think the whole thing is such a mess because if you just go by number Stephen Manny Ramirez belongs in the hall of fame in terms of being a player five hundred and fifty five home runs over thousand extra-base hits. But he was suspended. Sammy Sosa never suspended the guys over six hundred home runs. He's the hall of fame player when you look at it that way, I just think this puts such a stain on the whole proceedings because there's so much uncertainty. And I don't think anybody knows the answers for sure. And then you look at a guy like Andy Pettitte who admitted that he did do it. And he said that he did it for a short period of time to get back from injury. And he only got nine percent of the vote. And if you look at his numbers, he certainly warrants more than that. I'm not going to rip the people that want to be the moral police, but I just wish that it was all a lot more cut and dry because you know, I am Stephen I like cut and dried. No you do. So do I, but I got to tell you this. I do one thing against. Roger Clemens and I've been on a record. I accused him stupidity. I think unlike anybody else where you had people inundating them with accusations and beyond and just bothering them, and they couldn't escape from it. All Roger Clements could have sorted into retirement. And nobody would have bothered him. And he opened his big flap and dead congress to a vitamin the Capitol Hill, and I just him differently. Because I've you him as a bit more arrogant about it or a bit more stupid about it. Am I wrong in feeling that way? Well, I think he certainly showed us hubris. But you know, he also the shaggy defense. It wasn't me. It wasn't me. Segi beautiful one coming from you, Michael. Larry. Michael Kay right here with Steve radio news last question. Absolutely nothing to do with PD's what everything to do with the hall of fame. I think that in our society the land of second chances. I think that it should be applicable to sports not just life itself. Which brings me the Pete Rose. We see a lot of guys that should be in. It's never getting in. Obviously weren't talking about PD's there. We're talking about gambling and baseball. And what have you have you got to a point where you believe Pete Rose should be hall of fame or you want to people die hard and saying no way in hell is the lifetime ban. That's the way it goes. Well, that's the holy grail. Is is the you can't bet on the sport. And there was on every door. And he was just so blatant about it. And I like Pete a lot personally. I think he's kind of fun. Gotta talk with and we've had him on a show a lot. I probably would not allow him back in. Now, he he's allowed to be baseball functions. But to be in the hall of fame that's the alternate honor. And he certainly has back there, and gloves and balls and uniforms. So he's represented in quote unquote, the museum aspect. Of it. But to give that plaque and to break the alternate role. Yeah. I believe in second chances, but to earn a living and stuff like this. But not to be honored. So probably I would say, no. But what about the fact Michael k that we're not talking about him as a manager where he was admitted on betting on baseball. We're talking about him as a player where there was no evidence that he did that true true. I if you look at it that way, but again, he kind of stained this whole resume by doing it as a manager and when he managed he was also playing for a while. And it certainly leaves open the possibility of murkiness in terms of the overlap wanted it start. I mean, do the all of a sudden start to gamble when he was a manager. Although there's no proof of when he was a player. Right. You the best. My man, the one and only Michael k afternoon drive voice for ninety eight point seven FM ESPN radio. Also, the voice of the New York Yankees under net on the networks covering all of their games. Appreciate you, buddy. Thank you so much takes defenseman. Larry, I'm going to use it. Plus what you said you wanted to talk about get to your question about baseball. Sorry. Stephen I. But do you think the PD that's a little harsh? I mean, as you know, people are just trying to take to recover quicker. Well, listen, it doesn't matter. What we think the fact is hall of fame voters, clearly a holding it against folks, do I think it's harsh. No because I think that the state wants a standard has been said, and it's been established and violate that standard there repercussions on the order of the day. You gotta deal with it. You can't sit up there and have standards ignored. So I'm I'm not I'm not trying to absolve the Barry Bonds Roger Clemens of the world and others from potential PD us, I'm not trying to do that by any stretch and imagination. I'm just saying that at some point in time when your greatness existed before that PD us EPA came into focus, and it's undeniable the you know, what that shouldn't be ignored as well.
