"Central Park at that point in Manhattan. So time wise, things were rather different. He was able to plan, work with cities in New York, Boston, buffalo, Louisville, and elsewhere to get ahead of urban development. He actually worked in particular buffalo as one of the perhaps most noted examples where he's often pointed to as one of America's first urban planners. Again, before that term existed, by the way. Right. He worked with a city elected officials and a business leaders in Buffalo to really plan the future growth of buffalo around this masterful integrated park system that he designed there. That was in fact buffalo is distinct because it's the first integrated park system in America, all connected by parkways. And traffic circles in that model became the model for the rest of the nation after that accomplishment in Buffalo including, by the way, his own son John Charles doing much the same thing in Seattle. You know, it's so interesting that you have a window of time as for a growing city where you can grab that opportunity and establish land as public land. Green spaces, and if you're asleep at the wheel, that gets developed, you can never really get it back. And then you look at it a hundred years later and you go, weren't we fortunate. Weren't we pressing or whatever to see that opportunity and take it because it makes our city much more livable. Absolutely. And here's the thing, olmsted did have that kind of vision. There's a famous quote where he would consider any of his projects coming to anywhere near fruition until a minimum of 40 years into the future and I'm paraphrasing that quote of his, but it doesn't take too much of experiencing his masterful parks or reading his voluminous writings to realize the Rick that he in fact did have vision 100 or 200 years into the future he did have that kind of vision, and he shared that with the powers that be in these great cities, the, again, the elected officials, the civic leaders and philanthropic leaders, and he convinced them to plan that way and to create these magnificent parks, which he knew would serve well into the future when these cities would see huge exponential growth into the future as was the case. You know, that's almost to me, integral to leadership is to be able to rise above the common masses need to get it done now or to have a short vision and to see that something that's going to be enjoyed by future generations. We can do right now and it's a slam dunk good investment. You'll get a kick out of this. I often say that he was the one of the earliest proponents of forest bathing. Which is much in the Vogue now. The modern version of which comes to us from Japan, but I would put it to you that people like Henry David Thoreau, who was an acquaintance of olmsted, and olmsted were early proponents of forest bathing. I was reading his quote. I mean, let me just read the quote. We want to ground to which people may easily go after their day's work is done and where they may stroll for an hour, seeing hearing and feeling nothing of the bustle and jar of the streets, where they shall be close to nature and in effect, find the city put far away from them. That's forced bathing in 1870. Absolutely. And if I can actually even add to that an additional quote which gets into what I would call nature Rx, which is now also a growing movement in America and Canada and elsewhere, I'm going to quote this is the shorter version of a longer quote from olmsted. The enjoyment of natural scenery employs the mind without fatigue, and yet exercises it, tranquilizes it, and yet enlivens it, and thus, through the influence of the mind over the body gives the effect of refreshing rest and the reinvigoration to the whole system. You know, learns it's so interesting because my girlfriend and I are planning our second one weeklong hike in the Alps and we're still marveling at being just in nature for a week exercising, giving our brains something a total break from all of the stress and pressure that comes with our daily work. It's good for our health and we just really value it that nature Rx thing is something that you don't need to get in a plane to enjoy. I was just up in Bellingham here in Washington state where they brag that they've got more green space than otherwise within their city limits. It's something the city really values and it's recognized now as something that's good for public health. And Rick, let's think about what we've come through during these last couple of years if I can add a couple of other elements. We've had this terrible pandemic we're still coming out of the end of it you yourself have had to deal with it so much in your own professional life. And in your industry, we've had social and environmental justice movements coming to the fore at the same time, just prior to and during the pandemic, and public parks and public green space and civic infrastructure where there is some green space where people can gather either in isolates for solace with nature or in groups. These are not amenities. Their essential essential aspects of our civil and civic infrastructure, and it's become ever more so apparent during the last couple of years. It's so important that we recognize that and it does come with that dynamic of people who want to develop stuff and make money right now. That's one great thing about getting together and raising awareness of the value of the futuristic wisdom and the work of Frederick law olmsted. This is travel with Rick Steves were joined by landscape historian and filmmaker Lawrence cotton right now. Lawrence has taken us through some of America's most iconic parks, all designed by the father of American landscape architecture Frederick, law, olmsted. 2022 marks olmsted's 200th birthday. So I want to talk about some specifics on his parks here in a moment Lawrence, but before we do, can you just review the philosophy of the father of American landscape architecture, Frederick law olmsted? What was his philosophy that was the bedrock of the things that he designed? Well, there are several ways to slice that. One would be his aesthetic and design philosophy when it comes to actually designing public spaces and public parks which has to do. And you yourself already hinted at it and your wonderful introduction, he was influenced by the English naturalistic garden design movement profoundly, but also by writers in England and in America and we could mention some of those designers in England such as capability Brown and Humphrey repton and writers like John ruskin and other individuals William gilpin, who vividly price, but here in America, Andrew Jackson downing, as well, who was so instrumental. He was also influenced by the transcendentalists in particular Ralph Waldo Emerson's on nature. And he had a friendship with individuals such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. I daresay they influenced homestead more than he influenced them. All that writing about naturalistic garden design refers to the sublime, the pastoral and the picturesque, as well as the Hudson River school movement of a painting here in America. All of those elements, those aesthetic elements are always combined. In my public programs, I often say, well, it's kind of hard to recreate the sublime in the middle of an urban, dance urban environment. You mentioned you're going off to hike in the Alps. Of course, that is the sublime in Europe. The English Lake country would be the sublime as well. But here in America, the sublime of course is Niagara Falls and back in the 19th century was the catskills and the adirondacks. You can't do that, but you can certainly through some artful movement of earth and plantings of trees. You can certainly recreate a pastoral or a meadow like environment and a picturesque environment, a picturesque is tipped the ramble in Central Park is more often than not pointed to. The birding hotspot of Central Park, densely wooded, open meandering curvilinear paths typically a burbling watercourse nearby either real or semi real, at least. It's great. And the whole idea is there as you go in a transition zone in these masterful parks from the pastoral to the sunlit open expanse meadow to these meandering wooded glens, for sort of inspiration with nature, one on one, if you will, it's a many Walden pond experience. In an urban environment and you have always have these combinations in all

So the where he lived. His parents called their house cypress. Bend and because there's abandoned the river that goes down behind the lumber river and we built our house behind a house right on the bluff at the rue so we call our house the landing at cyprus so when we do the winery or the vineyards i had to call them cypress bend because it was all the bend in the river is where we relocated so that it had to be that was just the was the name from the very beginning to cypress. Bend vineyards is yours flattop. Cyprus tree that grows on the on the bend. And it's been there for over the two hundred years and cyprus trees are usually very straight and tall and they have just regular feathered out limbs. But this one swirls and you'll see it in our logo and it. Has this laptop so john charles mcneill who was considered first poet laureate of north carolina was a cousin in the family and a lot of the names of the winds. He did a lot of journalism and his journalism. It was more poetic. This more storytelling than it was actually journalism. People enjoy the way he wrote so think that's why they probably named him. The first poet laureate of north carolina but when people would ask him how he would describe the wami river. Even say it's sweetheart stream and so on that level. We have a picture of the river the bend with the tree in it which is an actual picture. It's right being and that you know sweetheart stream so we're honoring the lotto john charles's work. We have mcneil and the name. Catherine campbell was the matriarch of the family. So we have catherine cable And we have the poems of john charles. We have autumn which is citizens a beautiful poem. And you can look these things up. On the north carolina on line and find charles mcneill indus discover the poachers and there are several books that have been written and a lot of the the family in in riverton were either writers or they were lawyers or doctors or something. A lot of them wrote a lot of things about one of them was the dean of wake forest school and so They just they. They had several writings out. There's a lot of history. Can't buy the family. One of the one of the people was gerald johnson and he wrote a book called by reason of strength. which is the full story of catherine campbell. And daniel white coming over from scotland and the family growing and his journeys with his ministry where he was trying to find his congregation and he had seen in his vision and so You know the children in the names of the things that came out of that and john charles. You want his poetry so we've woven all of that into what we do here just to carry on the family legacy and the only thing people ask us. It's funny as John charles also was involved with one.

I mean, if I for example, when I was coaching soccer if my team lost, I wouldn't wear the same hat again. I changed my house. I'm not gonna wear that hat next game. But if they want to keep wearing it, so it didn't work out with her first dress, and it's not gonna work out with this one. So anyway. Well, wait a second. "All right. Also, Wendy Padbury doesn't appear in episode three. This was another case where one of the doctor who actors lead actors decided to take a holiday. Inn. Bails out of the story for a complete episode. Last time we talked about it was William Hartnell on this story Wendy Padbury. Back. Then I guess John Charles Maybe. You can tell me did they not have like filming seasons like right now you film like seven eight months in a row then you're on hiatus. Filmed fifty, two weeks a year, and just you had to take vacation. Dreams an episode, a week. Okay I think. It was a good if I'm not mistaken like almost like nine months out of the year. Can kind of like you know did they do over here in the states? But but with more episodes so you had like one episode of week. So, so every so often you'd have to like somebody wants to take a break I guess. Okay. So we just write them out of the story is a little odd nowadays yes, and here's a fun little trivia bit Sally Faulkner Skirt kept getting blown up the helicopter sees you know when she was climbing the rope ladder from all the the wind and whatnot. So to avoid the same thing happening to him. Frazer. Hines. 'cause he's wearing a kilt as Jamie. So so to prevent that he. Apparently remembered reading somewhere that the queen of England used lead weights sewn into the hem of her skirt stop this from happening to her when she was on a helicopter. What have you so apparently the guy who dresses fraser for the show. He was a fisherman. So we got a hold of some of his lead weights from probably his tackle box and so them into his killed. So just thought that was kind of interesting. Very when I read that I was very impressed. I'm sure there were a lot of disappointed frazer hines fans that did not get to see his bare bum in that one. I guess we'll never know for sure if he's wearing underwear under that kilt, which is leave their to everybody's imagination very well said. John did I miss anything while I was crossing off the ones that you going to you`re Saying as as I was listening here So the the invasion was actually test story for the more earthbound stories that they would adopt later on in Jon Pertwee's era again that when their You said Wendy Padbury was on vacation or on holiday. Fracture hines was actually on a schedule break throughout episode eight. So they knew that was going to happen. So what they did was when they film the the beginning with the charts landing, they also filmed the ending with them leaving. So they wouldn't have to worry about him being there for not being able to shoot it. Nice. Yes. Those those pretty interesting Peter Halliday. He also did the voice of the cyber director in this one. Did couple couple of Cyberman as well. Let's see. What else do I have on here Oh when does lot of voice work for monster did yeah. I. Because there's a lot. Yeah, there's a ton. But let's see I. Think it's maybe the last one I got here. When Jamie and the doctor going up the elevator shaft and they pass by the Kilroy was here yeah. Frazer hines actually wrote that on there as a joke. You're filming and then he said, well, if it's a manmade, obviously somebody's going to somebody's going to write something like that on their slay just decided to leave it. Yeah. Now, what does it wasn't the whole cure I can worry was here thing wasn't that something they did World War Two. Is. kind of like a goof among soldiers if I'm not mistaken. I I don't know I. I've never researched it. I didn't know if anybody knew that at the top of their head and so just. Just a little curious I guess right. Moving on since I had nobody seems to know including me. All, right. Three topics today. So, number one, let's talk about. Patrick Trout Nar second doctor. The Brigadier Corporal Benton Not Sergeant Benton and United Nations and telling Task Force. Units making their debut. So Jesse. First before we get into the topic. Were you surprised that this was the very first unit story that I'd I sprung on you. I was a little bit because you know we had brigadier. Brigadier month or bringing. A thing and so we were like Oh. Wait that that's kind of how did that not make our on vk share month? Yes it was. It was a really pleasant surprise You know what was in I'm make a point here in a minute, but the other thought I was interesting is. Last week, we had an episode Space Museum that ended up being a decent story, but it had it had a very important. You know for the mythos of doctor who right we talked about that last week this one you could make the argument. We have another almost bigger mythos of unit and how and this is almost as you guys talk about a pilot for when the third doctor happened like you know they, they changed i. Remember when they were doing the fiftieth anniversary You know they actually talked about a lot of ways. The third doctor was a brand new show in a lot of different ways of. So I was very happy to see the brigadier very happy to see unit That was a nice reveal because I didn't know it. So the two people you know like, oh, they're spies and no, they're the good guys there's been watching. That was nice. That great scene. where the doctor in Jamie. are kind of getting cornered by these pseudo men in black and. I love this moment where like the doctor just kind of kind of just resigns himself to being captured and he sits down in the street and start to dealing out cards. Like. He has a deck of playing cards. START SCATTERING THEM OUT WAITING Just to kill time for like all of. Five seconds before they show up in grabbed him. But it's still. Shows just a very funny and it just shows how how brilliant Patrick Troughton was as the doctor just a great character moment I thought. Yes. So so let's get into this a little bit this like I said, this is the very first appearance of unit. John when you watch this story for the first time.

"Lose their special character. So in some ways what you're saying is when awards are scares. People actually look at them, and they have value. But you can actually devaluing award by giving out too many of them. Absolutely. Yes, it's with everything. If if one does its too much, it doesn't have any effect. Let's look at another study Cork, Doran and George Bore has found that winners of the fields medal this was ah. Cries for mathematicians under the age of 40 respond in some ways, like the students in California compared to mathematicians who nearly win, But don't the winners end up dabbling in new areas of mathematics, where they end up being less successful. Here's Doran I think it's not what John Charles Fields expected. He expected that in giving people a prize to honor and extol their previous work that would encourage them to doom or of the same work. What we find is that you know the opposite takes place. What do you make of this Bruno? In some ways, this paper was arguing that the mathematicians who nearly win that tip to be winners of the fields medal, But since the medal is given only two people under the age of 40. There are people who passed the age of 40 without winning it. But ironically, it finds that those people end up being more productive, at least as measured by the number of papers there, right. So in some ways, the award is actually not producing. What what the originator of the award intended. It didn't produce with the recipients off the off the fields medal, but with the office, so in a way, that purpose was reached on. I think the others who didn't get the prize. I want to get recognition in some other way. Andi, therefore work heart live via the recipients are satisfied because mathematician cannot get more than the fields price. That's that's a fascinating idea. In some ways, I think what you might be hinting at is that potentially the benefits of some awards might be Seymour in the people who don't win the award because it motivates them.

"The island of no return. I'm Rebecca leave. I'm Jason Horton. And this is ghost town. This was a journey American missionary. John Chow was warned against taking the island was off limits to out to protect outsiders and the tribe which has no immunity to modern diseases. This morning investigators are trying to figure out who else might have been involved in that fatal mission today. This remote island in the Indian Ocean is the focus of an investigation. Where is American missionary? John Charles Body Jon Allen Show was an American missionary who tried to convert the sentinel lease indigenous on contacted tribe located in North Sentinel Island in the Indian Ocean this one. I'm going to have to preface immediately. Yeah I don't want to make this about Disparaging Religion Okay. Which is a very easy. Go to with this story. Sure and I'm generally not opposed to it you know. I'm not opposed to knocking religion but also I'm not also looking to disrespect people's religious beliefs and how important it is to them and I get that I kind of A. I like that about people's Times there. I like songs about some of the Lord because it's so intense and passionate I do. I mean just like simple exonerated him him I do I do like in. I have my sister got married. I got married in in Rome at a old school church at other Senate Orthodox Jewish wedding that I was in so I have no hang-ups in that sense where I'm looking to make a stand or wherever but I'm just not particularly religious and with this story the Jon Allen Chao. A lot of people Really Kinda go. After the fact that he was very intense religiously in his pursuit as a mission. So I don't want that to be the thing because I read a lot of things and we love conversation and to me. That's almost a moot point. Okay just out just out there. Diplomatic I like that about you. I hope being a sell out the middle of the road fair enough. Yeah I mean. I think that I'm sure there's some element I mean. Religion is a complicated thing. I don't think have probably a lot of like super observant people who listened this podcast. And if you very cool caja do I like yeah. I like the professor like I'll maybe we shift our focus not put so much into that element. It's also. It's very easy for me to do you see. Religion is bad liquid. Religion made you do. I don't want that to be the the issue because there's other issues for me involved and I don't take any pleasure. I told you low-hanging it is low-hanging fruit. And and I told you so complicated sophisticated and we don't ever take low. Hanging fruit never ever true crime yet. Earner Su Chao was from Vancouver pentecostal the coup a pentecost from the coon. There's a lot of maybe I can't speak to his speaking in tongues. Yeah something that happens there. It's it's very intense. I gauge alkaline. Updating a former pentecostal and dated one in Grad school and their services are intense. I'd be interested in. I mean we've talked about. Things are going to a A Satanic Temple Satan or many pentecostal or something just to experience and I've been to many churches I've into usually of the Christian or Jewish faith because those big ones deserve little big box store of of relief apathetically also like a lot of the United States is. It's very. It's a very strong. It's got a very strong culture around it to once you're in it. I think it's history very very interesting. And it's important to interpret history when you talk about society culture it is important. He had help With a group called all nations which has looked into a little bit. They set up missions casts seemingly the Christian. I'm assuming the inside of met some really great Mid Mormon missions relevant San Diego and their sister Joan was like sister Jones an editorial Assistant Jones in like sister Smith and they were super cool. We came over hung out with just moved there. We were like Thanksgiving. It was very cool. Never pushed religion on us as we and it was it was a very cool positive thing and still i. I still the same kind of us and stuff. I was like listen. You're not pushing anything on me. I'm not pushing anything on you. Yeah and we're all going to get along and and those pie.

"Using the shop seven one Kaplan with my mom you know we've been talking and and joking and lamenting we'd all love to get a hair cut you loose we sure would we're all dying over the Graham's but you know that is side thinking about what to the salon experience is going to be like I mean wow I mean I feel for all of our stylist friends who've been out of work but thinking about what the salon looks like going forward it's really going to take some creative minds and one of them here in the Twin Cities is the ever entrepreneurial John Charles hello John Hey are you guys doing today okay we sure can well John I wish you could share with our listeners what you and I talked about earlier this week I mean just how I mean first of all how is your staff for doing it and and and how are you thinking about getting back to business also it's hard to staff schools it's kind of a a binary thing some of them are I'm pretty happy about the you know the deep money they're getting I think they're well taken care of with that are that one time in their life where they're you know they're kind of taken time off now and then there's people that are the the heavy hitters a bit deeper during a big numbers and you know all the ballers are what we're going to call them we're kind of suffering you know there are some other kind of person that can't sit still like myself yeah they are the person that we we live for what we do and you know not that some of the other ones don't but and so with that it's taking a toll on us you know a little bit but the thing is is I'm excited about what's going on because there's a lot of you know there's a it's like there's a tide coming in and the tide going out hi coming in and now the tide been out for like what eight weeks yeah we seem to really really ugly stuff that used to be under the tight you know and also you're not you're not just talking about her gray roots what what do you mean I am not going to know exactly that's yeah that night good writing I was talking about cleanliness I'm talking about how many people we had to do to make a living I've got a talking about that absolute chaos that life was you know I'm talking about what what I see going forward is staggering appointment oddly obviously less appointments and I see a lot more quality with each individual appointments and a lot more quality with the relationships and and and I see I see us as small business people just being quite a lot more in charge and give you a more power okay that will go on walk us through what is the step that you're already taking to to reconfigure your wise at a salon and then of course you have a barber shop within Martin Patrick three in the north loop so so how are you already in the space which I spent hours in both places I was at my house at Martin Todd barber shop it's trade fight for hours you know by myself on purpose by myself not with the team to kind of look at everything store we went from five chairs to for the waiting area Martin Pat Patrick is now twenty thousand square feet what part of the barber shop is now twenty thousand square feet at the market basket store nobody's allowed to wait inside the barber area barbershop area will be one person bear and then for people in the chair everybody at least six feet apart we have personal protective panels between each station and then we have I mean twelve Mar decide jars news auto clave sanitizers plastic capes reach gas or the gas continue K. gloves for each you know procedure and paste mask and then shields and face Max wanted to sample it comes a lot more you know medicinal was shot going to the salon yeah seniors I'm using are basically based on the dental are out on a medical yeah I think that's smart the thing is I think that's the one thing I was thinking about is when you're getting your hair shampoo there's no way that the persons that shampooing you that their face isn't basically in your face we're doing so that's why we're doing double protection there okay you know I measure imagine declined wearing a mask you wearing a mask and shampoo and somebody in the mask will be around people ask me what what's gonna happen with mastering hair color and I'm saying well you get hair color and rats yeah you know it's it's to you if they want it and what we have you just need to know if it's just for that we're we're talking to John Charles who owns the lines in ways that a and at Martin Patrick three and has been in the industry for many years and seen many changes John well we will guests be asked to wear a facemask while you're cutting or coloring their hair so what used to be a nice city it's not a necessity and what I mean by that is there's going to be protocol for gas as well as for my coworkers and protocols and guests will be wearing masks you have to be cannot bring for people in with them if if a lot of people might not have an assistant that helps a medical assistant they can bring the person and then they have to go on the clock all all appointments are going to be a secured with either a gift card or credit card and if somebody's really late or no show they'll be charged because there's that parties are much more valuable Sir and then the waiting room is gone there's we now we will have three waiting chairs one of the very front one in the middle back and actually one outside on the patio and potentially to on the patio which we cannot you know and so there's that potential movement from fourteen stations to sap wow six right much like the restaurants that are saying you know look you can't make up for the loss of it in you know dining in I mean salons are in the same boat there's no way you can be at a hundred percent yeah you know you know if you guys know is anyway I'm I'm with you right now is going to have a good another's group with me are people I'm teaching how to color their hair how do I say stand somebody want to talk to you all are you kidding I got it to clients in Austin Texas but did want my better we we don't want to cut you off from your good clients which is what we're going to question your account here's the deal we're not asking what the next step is work we're telling you what the next step is it's it's gotta change profoundly I need to protect my cold my coworkers made to protect my client in my community and it and we need to get back to work do you think that others it salons will follow your lead in this I hope they do I have to take this very seriously consider it back once again to a binary some people are taking it very seriously some people are sitting in a chair rocking about going out yeah and some people are not giving one you know whatever and they're going out full force John we and I'm not I'm not got anybody who's right I'm just gonna know what I'm gonna err on the side of absolute you know care and when do you think you will be re opened I mean we don't know for sure in Minnesota what what are you expecting here's what once again I'd like to drive this rather than ask an unused usually I'm already and are ready shoot aim to have a guy but I'm not gonna do that in this instance I'm gonna wait till I get you know the correct permission but what we what should happen is around eighteen we should be allowed to do a couple of clients today with absolute over you know emphasis on you know cover nineteen protection so we can practice best practice we have a lot of very intelligent clients and I'd like to invite them and do a couple clients today and then and then declined to hate you what about this concern do that and we say what about this you know and so we can so we can do this right do this crime right out so you know what I mean that's what I think I'm gonna try that's what I would really like to happen governor Anil after you but you guys are listening that's what needs to happen restaurants need two weeks before they open to order sushi you know when you're ready you know it's just it's just the things that need to happen yeah I got I I'm spending probably ten thousand dollars on a medical grade washer dryer for the white at a salon you know obviously the personal protective panels I've got six seven grand in the village I get sick I just bought five gallons of sanitizer for both salon that was kinder to dollars and it's really high grade stuff and then you know it's just at the level it's just it's it's a lot of money investing into you know what a future but I I really do believe I know exactly what it looks like but it's going to be a lot less income but I once again it's going to be better in a lot of weight turnaround Burnham era that I grew up in but I drove that I've lived my whole life is over and now it's time for a slower methodical beautiful artistic experience well I just wonder if if the smaller shops will will take the precautions that you're talking about I hope they do so I think it's really hard I mean I think if you're talking about you know but margins you're talking trying to get you know commoditization of as much as you can get for as little as you can get I think those days are kind of over and engine cooling safety you know you know and so I think what has happened close shot you could say maybe we need to charge double what we were charging you fewer appointments and then really up sanitation which is difficult not buyer you know I think we're we're uniquely placed in our both of our locations to chart we're gonna charge a bit more and we're going to do a little bit more procedures yeah that would be you know we are and then John you you also had mentioned that you're not going to do some of the the spa waxing type treatments that that just won't come back online right away two two reasons one is it's not really we're not the best "They they guess the occupations of people there's one with Groucho Marx where you know he's a celebrity gas but you know a woman owned a nudist camp or a it was bizarre redesigned museum whatever it was I or they got the gun guide me deb pitch irons for fireplace there is always accurate well it already was the one who will guest all of more that on and that night she died she gets two or three of the occupations including the with one with this woman who sold cement that that we have interviews with so unfortunately then the U. the the the what's my line people were like her newspaper colleagues her family all of those people even today her family is reluctant to cooperate in any investigation why why did it happen back then because they all knew that she was investigating the JFK assassination and they thought if the people who killed JFK killed Dorothy then go after them their damn mouth shut yeah and that's what they did Stephen Denver Colorado welcome to the program Steven go ahead yeah I yeah I gotta tell you that the what's my line show with John Charles Daly of Dorothy Kilgallen Arlene Francis Spencer Fran Bennett I mean it is I was six years old and fifty nine from China I think that maybe I was conscious done but what is show I mean it was a fascinating show I I guess I told your screen or the reason I don't know to what do you get that what's your question okay Dorothy Kilgallen was assassinated right I mean there was conspiracy right that's March thirty well I don't I don't like the word conspiracy plot to kill her I like to use our plot to kill JFK but I understand what you're saying and then all right then what about the G. this is there a connection there the same people that killed her I killed JFK well real quick that's what Dorsey felt happened as a new may not have been listening but I said you know unfortunately she told everybody in the world that she was going to crack the case wide open all of them all of them and so you know that's going to get back to the people who are threatened you can't mess with those people I just tell you one quick story if I may when I was with Good Morning America I covered legal things for them they sent me to New York City and I interviewed the lawyer for a mafia don and in Philadelphia named Carlos skews me Angelo Bruno and we we'd set up the the interview and then David Hartman and sandy hill where the hostess and way back when and they played the tape of that interview the next day and it was a huge success and they said to me we were really surprised that the lawyer would speak to me they were the mafi was trying to get into Atlantic city at the time so anyway the producer called me and said mark don't leave Philadelphia see if he'll talk to you again so I called the office I can't remember what his name was I called the office and this woman answered and I could tell there was a problem I said I'd like to talk to blank again see if he would you know if if we could interview him and I could tell it was a silence and then he was kind of crisis what's wrong and she said well I guess you don't know Mister Shaw he was in his car and the when he started it they blow him up this morning oh my gosh you can't have a round with those guys you can't mess around with them they had their own and they still do have their own set of of of of of of the way that they handle things when people don't cooperate they basically just kill them four main that's how they get whatever IDC I you know I will never forget that I was the last news guide to deal with Jimmy Hoffa before he disappeared may may of nineteen seventy five I was with ME disappeared in July you know then and I know what happened and you know what he was involved with the same players were involved in the Kennedy situation and you know what happens though is there's these distortions of history that I'm trying to correct and so on and so forth I do want to mention one thing because it's kind of a warning I came across this kind of by accident but I'm going to warn people about the sixth floor museum at at Dallas Texas in Daley plaza they put out advertisements and promotions and things saying it's an accurate a collection they have everything about the JFK assassination the building is changed history what happened there and all of this well I came to find out through the fact that I offer donations of Dorothy kill gallons research and the ruby trial transcripts they didn't want them why not and and I I couldn't understand it until I visited the museum when I was speaking there at the Allen public library it's a shrine to Lee Harvey Oswald my god go through their exhibit you won't see anything that's adverse to the Lee Harvey Oswald alone theory the exhibits there there's some number three or four years old they talk about Jack ruby like he didn't even exist in their bookstore they do not stock any books that are adverse to the Oswald alone theory and the reason they do George is because the it and if if if the new information if the full story is told that museum won't be relevant anymore and I I went ahead and and put these warnings in my talk at the Allen public library and I've heard from people all over the world who have said guys you know we wondered what was wrong when we went through there as well and it affects students and teachers and all these.
