"john carlos stanton" Discussed on Yanks Go Yard: A New York Yankees podcast
"So right now, the stretch of next 9 games is the antithesis of the 2021 New York Yankees. So not really optimistic. Like you said, still rooting for my team, but, you know, rip the band aid off. And if the season's gonna end early, it's gonna end early. And I can't care because this isn't working for the most part. It's not working to the magnitude at which it should. And hopefully the failures of this team will require some Jurassic moves from the front office, which haven't happened in a pretty long time. So it's going to sound some alarm bells if the season doesn't turn out the way it should. And I either way I'll be happy with this result. Yankees get another playoffs. Very cool, deep team, scary team to face playoff baseball everyone, you know is very different. Every single pitch matters. And then you have a guy like Jericho, who can take over a game, that's sweet. You have Nestor Cortez, who's risen to the occasion. That's great. You have hitters like John Carlos Stanton, who seemingly shines in August and September and Aaron judge who's typically always delivered in the postseason, threatening team. Could be fun, but also if the season ended great back to the drawing board like get figure out how we're gonna reconstruct this entire roster and get back to our winning ways because if this is embarrassing, this should be embarrassing for everybody because it's embarrassing for the fans. That's how you know the organization itself needs to be feeling the heat in terms of in terms of making overarching moves to orchestrate some sort of facelift. So I'm fine with either outcome because I know I know what I'm watching. You know, it's like Aaron Boone and the Yankees don't need to tell me what I did or didn't see on a given night. I saw a bad effort. You don't need to tell me that there was a lot of fight, you know? Shit like that. So whatever happens happens, guys. That's the universe. That's the world for you. Enjoy it. Silver lining and everything aches make the playoffs could be fun, Yankees don't big changes coming, new era on the way. Great. Yeah, the gas lit by Aaron Boone podcast. What a fun time for all of us. That is it for this Monday edition of the X goyard podcast..
Will He Ever Heat Up? Diagnosing Joey Gallo's Skid Since the Trade
"The goal here with Gallo was to lengthen the lineup and diversify the lineup. Left handed bat, he gives tough at bats and he's able to give protection to other guys in the lineup. Perhaps, I mean, it not perhaps. It is certainly paved the way for John Carlos Stanton Luke Voight and Aaron judge to be on the hot treats that they are on right now. And we're thankful for that. But a lot of fans have been sitting here saying, oh, dude, when Joey Gallo heats up, forget about it. Forget about it. This team's gonna be unstoppable. But we have no evidence of him heating up. So Anthony Rizzo heated up right upon his arrival in The Bronx. Made his statement. Singlehandedly, I will go out and say single handedly won that series against one that series sweep against the Marlins. Was it colossal reason for that? That kick started the Yankees incredible run throughout the month of August. But Joey Gallo has yet to really come on. I know we have that go ahead home run against the Mariners. That was an awesome moment to signature Yankee moments since coming over on the trade. But since then, he's grounded into three double plays. In four games, he didn't three double plays before, so it was Saturday Sunday Monday and Tuesday. Over the course of those four games, he grounded into three double plays. He grounded into three double plays in his previous 95 games with the rangers. What how does this how does this even happen? Before that, he grounded into 8 double plays in his previous 346 games. So bad luck, sure, but like, what? When is this gonna stop? So my question is and my doomsday question because I love asking these because I like seeing people freak out. This is just how my brain operates guys. When do we start worrying about this

"I l the team meeting and they went out and won the managers Buck Showalter guys like that. They know that Jose altuve AWOL return to the. Lineup today. John Carlos Stanton returned to the Yankees lineup last night and curly got a big cheer when he stepped in for his first play to parents and later in the game when he struck out with runners bakes. He got booed. Welcome back to New York. Expect nothing less. That's tremendous by the Yankee fan. This is this is not going to be easy by the way, I know you've discussed it in light of the Encarnacion deal. I think that we will look back on this as the greatest lineup assuming health that we've ever seen offensively, I think all the forces beyond the players, and they are the first component of it. You're talking about baseball's that are a little bit harder now. And the boss line further for the time that this lineup when they are all on the field together. I think you can favorably compare this offense to any offense that we've ever seen Yankees cardinals Red Sox Mariners in their heyday. I this will to me be the best one that I would put up against any other one. There's, there's no doubt about it. And I, I do I really, I really believe that I've kind of looked back at, you know, at the Yankees teams in the late nineties, I've looked at the gas house, gang. I've looked at some of those Yankee. Teams had all the stars on it. There is no I don't think any way to compare the firepower that this group has to any other ones, especially given. We're in we are now in again in a huge home run era. Yeah. We gotta dinner bet then because I don't think in the end. I think one one we get through October look back and all and, and, and our belief will be, you know what that trae didn't work out like an intended, because it made the line of two. Right handed too many strikeouts. He didn't translate in the postseason. Okay. For sure. I'll give you give you the strikeouts. That's that's going to happen. But I, I would put that let's see. I agree. What we'll bed dinner on it? I mean, okay, we're ready to go. All right. Now this was one of the stranger stories that were ever going to talk about what happened with the major league baseball, umpires union Twitter account yesterday, the backstory in this, the run-up to it the context on Friday, excuse me on Sunday. Manny Machado was injected from the Padres game after arguing a cold strike three. He got right in the face. The home plate empire Bill Welke. He fired his bat in on Monday. Major league baseball announced that Machado for his actions, which they turned to be aggressive was suspended for one game. And he was fined Manny in response to that gave an interview in which he basically told reporters, I've never seen anybody. Get get suspended for arguing balls and strikes. And I suspect, that's the reason why someone involved in the Twitter account of the major league baseball umpires OC decided to send out this tweet yesterday which took everybody by surprise the wording on it. Any Machado received a one game suspension for contact with an empire over balls and strikes? And violently that's in caps that word throwing his bat against backstop with absolutely no regard to anyone safety violence in the workplace is not tolerated and offenders are dealt with severely, an even made examples of for the good of its employees as well as the company itself. Alf is this truly what MLB wants to teach our youth? And then the hashtags that follows. Carl got a lot of attention. Hashtag disappointed. Hashtag lead by example, has tag that appreciate it has tag violence has temper tantrum it cetera et cetera et cetera. This guy huge backlash and social media yesterday were fans are saying, oh, yeah. What about angel? Or what about Joe west major league baseball back last talking about how is inappropriate response from the empire's union?.

I don't want to hear about how if it hadn't been for Chris Paul the year before that was their chance. And they let it go in my opinion. And I think they have as good a GM as there is in the sport in Daryl, Morey. I think the time is now if there was one to be made to make dramatic shuffling reshuffling, flatter know that he can't can't go Chris Paul forty million dollars a year. You're stuck with this team. This is what you have in my opinion. I got this Clinton. How many music? In the west I like better than them next year. Four teams in the west like tonight, clippers remind dot com. Probably without him playing. Chris Lakers, dangle somebody eight I mean these are all career. I agree with. Here's another thing about Houston's opportunity without Chris Paul. They missed twenty seven straight threes. That's an NBA record at home. You gotta find a way to close that up, and it's one more thing. One more thing, and I said that they should do this. But when you do this, you got to take your business. The Houston Rockets closed out their series while the warriors in the clippers were playing game six in LA. They trolled them by going to Golden State stand there Friday night, anticipating that the words are going to win. You gotta go take game one. If you go and do that, and they lost game or saying, sometimes there's a role block in your mind about certain teams, I think that certain team that was a roadblock was Golden State for Houston. Rod, maybe team that they lost three two years in a row. I felt like that was once they wanted to play most desperately and they had their they didn't. They didn't get it done. Okay. The draft, of course, is coming up tomorrow night, this thing snuck up on us as design on air will officially begin in New Orleans. The seventy third annual NBA draft comes your way seventies night on ESPN and ESPN app from Barclays in rook land. All right. Let's really quickly run the basis of interesting baseball from yesterday wild night in Minnesota after max Keppler tie the game against the Red Sox on a Homer in the bottom of the thirteen couplet would, again play the hero with a walk off RBI single in the bottom of seventeen to lift the twins to a four three win. It was the longest game by innings in target field history. If it was up to me this game ended in a tie after twelve that's another discussion for another day. About facing g Lido Aaron saying he's very hot hitter pitcher right now. And he's been so tough with us. The change was amazing tonight in every any couch. Many go to the slider, which he had not been using all that much, but mostly fast ball and change up, but tonight used at slider alive. The I mean listen, it's hard to measure yourself as an offense, when you're facing a guy who's been pitching as well as g leader, this, all of a sudden, it doesn't seem like the anchors are going to be upsetting. The apple cards when John Carlos Stanton, Aaron judge on their way back they could use some big bats. They could use some big vats and you know what it is also because I did ask about about what is what is going on. I mean it's they've lost a lot of games, but it's a little bit of everything. They've got to play his Aaron said we got to play better in every aspect of the game. I think he's most disappointing defense. "When you were growing up as a kid when you were hitting a ball, playing wiffle ball or something like that, was there someplace where you're like, yeah. Hit the ball there. Like, you know, on the roof or into some place over a fence into a tree. Was there, some really cool home run that you could hit? Yeah. Well, one of my buddies it wasn't in my backyard. But one of my buddy did have a replica Fenway park in his backyard complete with a green monster. So, of course, if you hit a home run over the monster. Those were the ones that allowed you to flip the bat, and there were no unwritten rules when it came to whippable flip away. Nice. And so when you did that it felt a little special, right? Oh, of course. Yeah, yeah. So when I was six years old, we lived in a house that had a swimming pool. And I hit a splashdown home. Run, it six years old, and never, forget it hit a tennis ball, and I could see the splash the water and I thought that was cool. And I bring it up. "Know, obviously, he's very locked in, in terms of the Yankees, hitting a lot of home runs against the Orioles thirty three and eleven games. They're nine two against them. I mean it's something that as a club, we do. I mean we're going to hit the ball the ballpark in terms of tourists. Are you surprised how many strikes you are swinging with the success, you're having? Yeah. I mean on just I know they don't be really really, really well. Apparently not. Although the, the second home run is off the plate, and he just takes right? Feels really good swing. The Gary Sanchez homerun. I mean that pitch was law. We went down and got that and still got it out of the park. You know this the more on thinking about this thing, man, the I would not be surprised if the Orioles did go a little bit to the retribution deal today, because you just watching the MLB network highlights this. They put the Oriole mascot with tears. Grad of it with by bye birdie that logo that I just thought like they, it's not just Austin mocking them. It's the entire baseball balking joke. Well, yeah but I mean I wonder if the, the feeling in that clubhouses. Yeah. We are joke. There's nothing we can do about it, but get better. Or we need to stand up for ourselves because everybody's laughing now, one thing that kind of flies under the radar, and I was alerted by the great, Jack Maldonado engineer is that Luke Foyt? It's hard to tell if he was thrown out or not in the eighth inning of this game goes a foul ball. But the ball sails over his head. I know you saw, but I don't know if. One is anything to do with the other because it was so much later in the game. So who knows neither here, nor there? Was just going to say the interesting thing about the Yankees is that after this little run with the Orioles, they go to the Kinsey royals royals or sixteen and one terrible Baltimore's fifteen and thirty three and the moral ones or fourteen and thirty one. So those are the three worst teams in baseball right there. And I think the Marlins have won four straight, and the Tigers are eighteen and twenty seven let's get starting tomorrow. Yes, that is true. Yankee six hundred Camden Yards this year. Twenty five homers in those six games, Tanaka and Bundy go today. Coverage at eleven fifty five John Carlos Stanton will not play in a rehab game now for at least seven to ten days as tightness in his case. So that is not going well at all for something that, if you remember when he went out, he's like, I remember he said he would play through it. Yeah. If it was up to him meet them. He's been gone forever, and it's going to be more months. So what do you think he stays in a nice hotel down Tampa somewhere, not on a ranch? Yes. Seriously? I don't know. I always we talked about this last year with Cessna's before he was completely gone with the heel surgery. Where do I mean, what are these STAN was down in Tampa? Trying to get some working. Right. Was where he was a think. So you think the put him up in a hotel or something. Or is he put himself up that? I don't know. Maybe Tampa Saint places spring training too. Maybe he's got a place in all of those guys because they're there for a long time, maybe trying to get one hundred and eighty one days down in Florida. Oh, maybe tax purposes. Oh, yeah. That's what he's faking injuries. So he could be down in Tampa because he doesn't want to pay the New York taxes on his three hundred million dollar contract. Is. Possible. That is a big loss. The Anki is in the angels before this game the Yankees announced that outfielder Clint Frazier's part of the B team had to go on the injured list because he turned his ankle the night he could be back in ten to fourteen days, and John Carlos Stanton has residual shoulder problems. He got a cortisone shot. So although the Yankees still expect that Stanton will be back sometime in may. This is definitely a setback. As this game was going along. The angels jumped on cici's about the council three to delivery. Hi depicted in right field. Head. Well, that's cool. Cow loons second hit against the left be this season. And that's his biggest one. And I kind of realized I've been listening to you too. Now, I'm not old school fan with beningo in the overnight. But you guys have been doing this show for and years. I remember when it happened, right? And this is the first of a called I've been on the phone with some others. But never you guys and your show. The most. So he pretty yeah. Love it love. And Joe when we take about six months off to some golf, and and while Evans looking for your replacement when they go to announce to be that's when you come back. I will be retired. I don't think there's going to be Roger Joe or anybody else. That we might know Michael Jordan Brett farve may couple other. Joking. Hey, real quick real quick. And I know this goes without saying, but I would like a little more consistency from the Yankees. And then I'll get excited. I mean, it was you know, there's a lap to be excited about especially last night start. But you know, let's give it another month or two. That's that's all I really wanted to say you guys are the best. Thanks about. I'd be excited about surviving until I get healthy. And I think that's the best sign you could have. Because the Yankees are very talented baseball team. It's an obvious statement. We all know that even the most pessimistic Yankee fan still viewed this team as team that should be playing Tober baseball. They can still do that. They need to do right now is survive. And I know that McGee Landa har- and even Louis Severino. There's more long-term questions, but John Carlos Stanton kinda come back. Gary Sanchez is gonna come back when those guys come back. This lineup is going to be obviously, even better. So it's just about surviving. If they can just play five hundred baseball until they start to get help. I think that's a win. Because I've always said this about baseball too hot streaks and five hundred the rest of the way if you ninety games. That's true says it's a simple formula would got to avoid that horrible stretch. And right now, the Yankees are primed to have a horrible stretch. Right. They're all banged up west coast coming up just a void horrible. That's it. Go play five hundred ball for the next three weeks. You do that. That's victory weeks and Tampa Eirik. Thank you know, what he was talking about. I mean, I'm not excited about this team right now at all. So let's see let's see a couple more games. But Joe would that look into that call being down here in Tampa? Alonso hits 1st career HR to help Mets beat Marlins 7-3
"In the Marlins Pete Alonzo was becoming a hero in New York. Well, he went really deep. Second rider to the bell is first pitch Alonso crushes one of the air deep to right center. This is career. Four to three Homer at a right center field a personal milestone at a huge one for the New York bits as they've got it front of the Marlins. Now is how he rose WCBS. Josh did you see replay that home? I mean that looked like hit like a two iron with we crush that. Very you BUSTER. Yes. A two iron. I was actually going to go with a three wood. But no probably a little bit more accurate. Who bet he he he when he hits the ball. He kills it. I think I I read that it was the longest home run by any anybody in that ballpark. Since John Carlos Stanton was with the team Mets win that game. Seven three. Don Mattingly Marlins manager was very unhappy about some calls in this game. I guess I'm not supposed to complain about calls or whatever. But the league look at it because it was shaky tonight. I understand the whole Marlins aren't supposed to be good this year. And I guess it's okay to pile on. But the they got a it's got to be better than that. Shakey tonight.

"On base. The bases loaded helps out some. But were you surprised at all by that early reception from Philadelphia? Oh. Billy fan is just as good and just as hard on players in any sport. It is what it is. That's what he signed up for. He said it. This is going to be a family. We're going to be good days. We're going to be bad days. We saw last year Giancarlo Stanton. Yeah. I mean the home opener he struck out five times, and we are to booze already by the third time. So bright gets it on the second one. But at least intentional walk got him on for Ruth Hoskins. Do the rest of the damage. You mentioned John Carlos Stanton the door to press with us in studio you were there in the Bronx part of the Yankees home opener to this this season against the Orioles. Stand went one for three. Aaron judge went two for three Luke. Void had the big home run a lot of expectations for this Yankee squad, and they look solid in that opening day, and they got great pitching from Tanaka as well they delivered. That's exactly the New York Yankees. That was written up on paper yesterday they delivered. I thought the most impressive part about it was the first four hits. By the Yankees were all to the middle to the opposite field. You look at. It takes that. They were taking were great. Aaron judge line drive. The other way at one hundred ten miles per hour, exit velocity. Then John Carlos Stanton tops it line drive. The other way again after a spitting on a slider that he was swinging in that first game of the season. You can tell the nerves are down. You can tell he knows what to expect in the most important part last year. He was non-productive by his standard right in Yankee Stadium. So now at least he gets off the he gets onto out of bed. You could say this season as we said in the first game solid hard contact. Great takes. Yeah. They struck out once a piece I'll take that in every game as long as they do damage the other three times our baseball analyst said oh Perez. Joining us Golic and wingo here in studio, and it only took, you know, opening day, and we already got our first exit velocity number..

"Tell me when it will end free li-. Like, why would he like the arguments that I get for Eli are he could still throw it great. Give them a good offensive line. Well, if that's the case he can quarterback five more years because if he could still throw at great all you gotta do is fix the offensive line. What are you looking for quarterback for keep the guy you have? He never gets hurt. And he could still throw it. Great. He could mirror Bryce Harper right to the end. Because no one calls you and tells me, you know, how you'll know that Eli doesn't have it anymore. Yeah. What's that? I'm not really sure. Mark Montclair, New Jersey, I'm Mark. How are you? What's up? Giancarlo stanton. His inconsistency last year other than I think just coming from the Marlins to the Yankees. The biggest reason for him is going from playing in the outfield for eight years to be in a d h I didn't that's hard on a lot of guys. And I always kinda want to see him get you have the Yankees put them in left field. I don't know if that's possible now considering they decide Aaron Hicks too long term contract. I don't fly cling Frazier get in. But if they were able to move stand into the outfield, the guy that I wanted to offer for a long time has been Schwaiger on the cubs gave me a perfect D H on the Yankees. We talked about the two or three years ago. Yeah. And I you know, I mean, he's only twenty five. I mean, he he's their starting left fielder finish a cargo. But I just don't see him being and outfielder for life. I mean, I think it's a struggle from as it is I and this is kind of a moonshot. But what do you think the chances? Theo Epstein say cash called on awesome, Greg bird, and you know, we'll pay Mary salary. Yeah. I don't think they do that. Because bird is too injury prone until he's not number one. This is my take on Giancarlo Stanton. And it may be too optimistic. It may be too nice of me. But I am going to take giancarlos year a year ago and throw it out completely. So to me. This is year one for John Carlos Stanton in New York. But it comes without any of the well, we'll throw them a bone because it's his first year. So this is to me will the real John Carlos Stanton. Please stand up year. I'm not going to hold against him. How bad is playoffs were is number of his strikeouts, etc. I'm gonna come into this with eyes wide open. Assuming that last year was a get to know me year are really long contract and now on the New Yorker. And now, I'm here. I know everybody, I know Boone, I know the pictures, I know my role here, and I will judge Giancarlo harshly. If needed. Next october. But going into this year, I'm going to remain optimistic until he gives me a reason to be pessimistic. That's my choice. Others can say no I saw him last year were in trouble. He's not a postseason player. And if he's not a postseason player he can't play here. And that's what you're going to hear about Stanton. And that's fair. That's the world today. You either are postseason player in New York for the Yankees, or you're not a player because we don't say this out loud, very often. But we don't really care much. What you do in the regular year? It's all sort of window dressing. It's not real. It's not the cake is just a bit of the hey, biggies fancy men's basketball come into the prudential center..

"Growing into being that guy is what allows him because like you said astutely pointed out Severino is shouldering that low he service and speaking of loads CC Sobat, the they also brought him back as well. So that you have him Gardner you bring back half. They brought back some guys. But yeah, I would still say that of, Hey, hey. I would still say of the names that the Yankees got ink to paper on. There was no like holy fuck. Like there was John Carlos Stanton last year. And then after that, it's like, okay, we're waiting for that move. We're waiting for many Machado. Could they surprise us with the Bryce Harper the answer? The question is it's going to be neither Dallas do you. See the Yankees. Now being like, oh, I I don't even think that you can say that they missed out on Manny Machado. They just didn't fuck in one about enough. I I will agree with that. But that's it's not like, they put an honest effort. And they were like fuck like we thought we made the best offer and we missed out like it just didn't happen now. But partly things that maybe it's cash making those moves and making those phone calls behind closed doors, and he never got to a point where thought he could go public kind of like, you know, hey, coal to thirty. And the answer. I will absolutely send Uber over and will put you in the Uber on the way back home. But until I get what I need out of you were not holding hands and taking. Into the movie, and it's just not going to be. All right. So can I put you in the mind of Yankee fan Yankees, miss out a mini Machado? Hi, how are you feeling about that? Are you like well, we have do har- in? You know could have been the rookie of the year had not Shohei Ohtani showed up and did what he did. But if if you're a Yankee fan, are you saying what the fuck we could've traded and do har- for for a starting pitcher. In addition to a James Paxton and have a stud third baseman for the next decade and Manny Machado. I just like, you know, we went a hundred games last year..

"But again in rhythm. And you know, I'm not sure I'm completely sold on it just yet. But it is early in the spring. You know, maybe if we're talking about this at the end of spring training. Maybe I'm feeling a little bit better about about what I'm seeing. Yeah. Satistics McGill and do heart. The worst defensive third baseman in baseball in one of the worst offenders in baseball in two thousand eighteen and important year for him perhaps with Nolan are not oh going into free agency. Next fall. We'll have to see how that goes. John Carlos Stanton second year with the keys. What's different in your eyes about him? Honestly, I think the biggest difference is just comfort, you know. Now that he's in year two seems to be a lot more comfortable around just around the complex in general. You know, he he certainly was at beloved member of the the organization is teammates loved him all year last year, and you can still sense that that same those same could vibe. But as far as a player, he just seems like he's a lot better a level comparable in his skin is Yankee, if that makes any sense, you know, as far as what we've seen him do in this brief amount of time hitting wise, each every much looks like John Carlos Stanton who can get, you know, forty fifty home runs of, you know, put on a show in batting practice on Thursday. That was just oh my goodness. I mean, he was hitting balls on the scoreboard. He was hitting balls out of the ball like out of the yard completely. So so in that way, he certainly looks like like the Stanton that that the Yankees, you know? We're hoping to get when they traded for him last December to December's ago. Now that being said, though, I again, I just think that that is differences just that he seems so much more aware of kind of what what's going on around him. How things are done around here. And you know, and of course, that that seemed like that was one of the big difference makers last year. You know, you're talking about a guy that was moved twice in his home opening series. You know, and and a lot of that is is because obviously his performance he and five strikeout game in there. But also because you could tell he was still trying to find his way in the Bronx. And you know, again, just from what I've seen it seems like he he feels a lot more comfortable with who he is going into your to New York's coli last one we've got about a forty five seconds left. She she she bat the last weekend announced that this will be his last season as the Yankees moved forward. This becomes Aaron judge's team. Yes. Yeah. I think that's fair. You know, of course, the two main leaders on this team right now are about the bright garden, but I even think right now when even ask some of the players, they they say that, you know, Aaron judge is the I mean, he he's the guy that kinda really makes this thing. I'll go you know, he is the one that that player's turn to four advice. He's the one that that coordinates the music even in the in the clubhouse, you know, he is the face of the franchise, and certainly CC Sobat departs. I think that that's something that will be saying for quite some time that ninety nine this is ninety nine state. Goalie. Thanks for doing this. I will see next week. Yeah. No problem Bleacher tweets..
