This is approaching the highest rate of infection that we have seen so far during the pandemic infection rates are rising in the U. S. Is well director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr Rachel Wolinsky. Our seven day average is up to 69,500. Nearly 70,000 new cases per day and, along with that emergency room visits and hospital admissions. But Wolinsky adds, vaccination efforts are making significant progress. More than one third of the U. S population has received at least one dose and more than 1/5 of the population is fully vaccinated. Lipsky says. Relax prevention efforts such as Mask mandates are one reason for the rising rates and another is the continued spread of highly transmissible variance more than Feed a 70% more transmissible, which makes the race to stop the transmission even more challenging and threatens to overwhelm our health care system again in parts of this country. There's a new boss in the. Or and all the scalpel jockeys don't know how to act around her all the women in the hospital of frustrated and fed up with the lack of respect they received from their male counterparts. It's a conversation that's been on the table for decades still needs to be addressed after all these years. Equality in the workplace still hasn't come to fruition. This is one of those issues that will be addressed until the matter is settled. And i'm all for that amen. Donald thirty five seconds graph guy. It's fascinating that we're having these conversations back when we were doing this in two thousand four and of course they've become so much more In public discourse now with with me too movement but here we are In in two thousand and four. They're having to put out a sort of a suggestion box type thing. Where if you're feeling like you're being sexually harassed you can report people In the two main people in the room are kelso and todd. Yes todd would be there. Yeah and we kind of knew that kelso would be in there. Yeah but we didn't know what was going to be a narrow cox's in there for calling me girls. Names is not nearly as agreed that the back is exactly well. I thought it was pretty funny. That i mean they. They decided to make todd so fucking stupid. He's not only one. he can't spell. We learned at todd is a dummy. He can't spell no. He's pushing his hands. He's a surgeon. He's washing his hands with gloves on. But i think right. But he. I think he what moron not only that goes into sexual harassment meeting with an i love vagina tee shirt moron. Is that the great i got. I got a circle back. I can't remember you guys told the story over far creator that's referred to is if our creator told the story but when when we first started early on billy gathered everybody. What is the cafeteria of where the biggest room in the hospital. The whole group. And i'll make it up at one hundred ten people or so and he did his no asshole policy speech and what he meant was you don't have to come to work and and be on pins and needles but you have to come to work and treat each other with respect and billy does not like confrontation and is not mr cup guy. When he laid that down he meant it. And so if you come to work and you're an asshole and this circles rate back into the sexual harassment. But it wasn't just talking about sexual harassment that if you can't be nice to each other you will be and subsequently a couple of people were karaki monosso policy and i brought that with me a couple of different things that i produced since i bring a cast and crew around. I'm sure not as elegant and graceful has been doing it. But if you can't be nice and billy new one thing we did that we were going to be there for quite a while as far as years. Go and use the no asshole policy. And i've stolen on everything i do. Everything i produce i tell the cast and crew there's no. So policy here you can do whatever you want but be nice on the fire. That's great you know. I just can't put money whereas mouth was. I don't understand how you can go to work and just be an asshole like when is this. There's a lot of assholes out there you know. Whenever whenever you start a new job. I had a friend who always be like. Who's the asshole like. You'd have to find out who they were so. Let me ask a question if i'm wrong. I'm wrong but i want wanna ask this question if somebody's being an asshole is it. Just you're fired or if somebody's being an asshole. At what point does it become all right. I can't take this anymore. You are going to be escorted out of here. Willy nilly willy nilly fire people. You have to be doing something that is affecting the workplace in in this obviously in this case sexual harassment. But it could be you know just being especially on a movie set someone who's just bringing a toxic energy and making everyone not do their their best. There are lots of times when characters get written off shows and It's for no other reason. Everyone was like fuck this. What by the way. This is not exclusive to actress because the saying that fired work services. Somebody's people were not actors. You know. I think any of them were actors. But i'm saying i was using this the The story of times that when you hear like creative differences that often means The person these were announced right. I always thought they just saw differently than the direct assault. But yeah i get it. Well i mean. Sometimes you know a lot of times when it's like date date conflicts. It's like no dates dates. It didn't conflict. The firm had a couple of couple of one liners here the dropping the hilton sisters thing. Yes which she goes all the way around sugar and 'social would she. Would she drops mister roberts lexical whereby procedures so dead so dead so if laverne stories true. And we don't really know. Mr and mrs hilton named their two daughters after laverne breasts now i. I'm not sure how that would have transpired. But she just rule shit. she's very funny also. Todd's yuna brown. Maybe that was the reason that made me left to anybody's gonna profit that maybe he said my waxes and the bahamas was i supposed to do. Get another one. That came out of nowhere i mean. Why does todd just randomly a unit. There's no other reference to just that's writers climbing wall season three. I i would love. I'm thinking it'd be the funniest thing to be in the writer's room you like all right who's going to be in charge of writing the todd jokes for this. So do you know that the writers rooms there were two before the strike. There were seven in each world and bill would leapfrog back and forth as he.

"So it's like just like he couldn't stop powerful was that kind of the coolest thing to do is to be like, don't tell you don't tell anyone. And like you know, there's also this like subversion of expectation like Jesus was you know it talks about the suffering servant like that is not who they thought. The Messiah was going to be he was going to like come out of the you know out of the stump of David a root of just you know all of these things and so it could just be like, Hey, you need to wait until this whole story gets told before you start yapping about what's actually going on. Okay. Let's talk about Mary wife of Columbus. There's just not a lot known about her unfair burden. But she may have been Joseph's sister-in-law. So Jesus aunt cut we know she was just sister-in-law because it says it's Mary sister, right? It's but it but it says Mary sister not it's Joseph's brother's wife. That is who she is traditionally, but I mean like may if the Scripture says it's Mary sister. Right, as it says in the Bible that it's Mary sister, right then that would be bad nature Joseph sister-in-law I get you saying it's also like it could have been his sister-in-law separately from it. Being Mary Sister Right what I'm saying is Shh Mary of Columbus Clovis was potentially Joseph's brother right? We're saying the same thing are we won't because if the bobble says I, think you're saying direct sister and she's saying it could have been less expensive. Than what the Bible says just because of some of the translation stuff. Okay. Yeah. Closest may have been simians father. So Simeon was an early church father the second bishop of Jerusalem which would make Simeon was like a big kind of second generation Christian essentially making semi Jesus cousin they're to me they're too many Mary's like there's too many Mary's confusing in the tax gap using in the original we just don't know but the so the takeaway though is this isn't just like a Mary who's passing through town like a drifter. Mary, this was probably someone who has like tangentially related to. Jesus in some way way. Yeah. So if she's not so even if she's not married sister, which seems weird that we would translate it as she's Mary sister, right? Well, there's this whole which I think is an interesting thing to note because like how are people supposed to expect to like if every translation says it's Mary sister and they were like I was translated right right well, and also like there's this traditional viewpoint that an who is Mary's mother saint an had three daughters from from three different husbands not like in a way in a like they all di Di way not seriously but. Anyway she named them all Mary. So that's also were just like George Foreman Yeah? Yeah. Jerry just like George Foreman. Yeah. She's the Bible that's what it gets. And this also ties into you like what's up would Jesus's family and widened Jesus Family Take Over Guardianship of Mary? I think Jamie I think you're right when you talked about how his brothers didn't believe in him Jesus talked a lot about kingdom bonds over familial bonds.

"Thank you and now back to the show verse six when you saw his mother in disciple whom he loves sandy nearby also disciple who super fast and runs very fast. Forty Times he said to his mother woman behold your son for seven. They said to disciple behold your mother and from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. So this is This kind of beautiful it's Kinda. Sad. Yeah. But it's also for me the stressful because I'm the kind of guy who I strive for clarity right? I want understanding and that's why I've never wanted to be on a game show because I feel like they explain the rules but they don't explain the nuance of the rules and I'm always worried I'm not gonna you on the price is right or just survivors like this challenge do I carry the bag of corn here in tropic it's just really confusing and just feel like Geez rushed like I. Know He's going through some stuff in the moment he was literally die he's literally dying but also I imagine just generally having some questions of like does she live with me? Do I call her once a week like how does this work I mean culturally okay. So in the Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible that I love it said that Mary was probably a widow at this age because she was in her forty, right? Hello. Wow that's tough with a lot of life. We don't have a lot longer to which is so funny because. We're going to see how long John Lived. So it's nuts but that because Jesus was the oldest child, it would have been his house legal responsibility to care for his because women didn't have any legal seating without a male advocate when it by another male in the family if it wasn't someone. So naming somebody was important like it was something that he should do. Yes. It's weird that it wasn't one of his brothers Yeah. I wouldn't or why was he worried about it if it's like what we know so little about I, mean we know James a pillar of the church, but there's argument that he didn't become back till. After Jesus sure from dad that his his siblings did not believe he was the Messiah. And really chastised his mother for that. You know there's lots of controversy from somebody will say those those guys are not brothers cousins. It's as it gets a little murky maybe Eric speak more into now. So but I just think. It says a lot about the relationship if you go this is the this is the woman who I love when it was important. This whole understand I'm not just our son part of a story. That she's a critical part of I want her to be taken care of I'm going to let this guy he's the guy eight. He's the only guy left standing. Yeah. Yeah. You know I think just like we're talking about Peter having this transcendent religious experience, and then to talk about like a ten placement on the mountain, you know it reaffirms and. His humanity I think similarly like you're saying this moment a so I think it's easy to get swept away with. He's become Lightning Guy God cloud came by he's crucify is GONNA rise? Again. He starts to just become God at that point..

"It feels like a clay. It's a lot of Mary's and you know what's funny. Here's what I love about scholars and Aaron can maybe explain this I looked at Mary wife of Columbus because I was trying to figure out who was yes. Other than just her husband. Yeah and it was so funny how many scholars we're like we're not really sure who? was and I meant it literally says in the Bible Mary, the wife of Clovis. And it's his mother sister. Why is there confusion on whether it? I love scholars who like just don't know if we don't know but wasn't enough that was Mary Sister Cope is really mean though. Jesus sister could be a metaphor Jamie. You don't know that not understand understand that I just I like I like three Mary's I feel like it would be like if we watch scary Mary just so many somebody marries I. Want I WanNa Watch TV show where everybody's named Eric you know all the all the white guys named air. That's why three M named their company three M. O hundred percent hundred percent that's what three hundred kind of products they make here at the Bible. Bench we're grateful for Modern Day Bible translations can you imagine trying to read ancient Hebrew Aramaic or Greek? That would be a show for you but for centuries, scholars have diligently work to make those old words in context understandable to people whose native language is something else. We've mentioned a handful of translations during our episodes, the king, James Version, an IV the. ESPN. And so on. But sometimes, it feels like things just get lost in translation. I'm sure you've had a moment where you've read a particular line of Scripture, lifted your head and said to yourself it happens to all of us if you've ever gotten lost in translation or wondered why one Bible says a text one way and another has something else you need to know about this new Bible the net or Net Bible love the Net Bible it's completely online. I love all the notes that they took it super fascinating for ease of use. You just really can't beat it over twenty five years ago. A group of Seminary Bible Scholars got together to create a free. Bible translation and in the process did something no translator in history has ever done. They documented all of their translation decisions from the original languages in over sixty thousand translator notes the result total transparency into not only their translation but all of your favorite translations to used by me our own resonant.

not a big tennis person I will watch that but as far as it being canceled I was like well chalk it up to something else that the coronaviruses ruined yeah pretty much I mean it doesn't come as a shock anymore and I mean it would be more shocking if they actually went through with it and you turned on the TV and they were playing he'd be on one of these people think so it's good it's all good all right I I'm gonna miss the the women's I mean that's I mean it let you walk well I don't know why the women do that done seen here from the guys very much but the women's they just they way they put it in and really get they get they get very emotional when their plane I now I'll see I'm gonna get complaints some stereo type I'm not trying to say that I'm just saying that's not stereotyping that's just flat out honesty what you're talking about there it's true it just I mean my goodness it's you know closure ice it's a soundtrack to a whole different other thing you know really is yeah so yeah that's the that's something kind of bigger news in with regard to sports and then boy this is the the on the unemployment claims in Ohio forty million dollars paid right now for unemployment claims in Ohio during this pandemic is just staggering as well ninety five thousand unemployment claims as of this morning and the the end of the ODJFS which is the Ohio department of job and family services they have four hundred twenty people on staff taking calls between seven and eight and seven P. and so in the other part of this to think about or remember is if you're one of the people that are going through this I can't even begin to imagine at two different points of my life I had to file unemployment and I did utilize you know this actual service but I did it both times online I didn't even try I didn't even attempt to call anyone and that to me was just a normal business as far as the normal traffic there now think about that last week for instance Ohio jumped more than a hundred eighty thousand the from the week before and I mean this is you know three point three million and climbing with regard to the whole nation and you know they're they're suggesting Hey do this online if at all possible here's one thing to all claims they're saying including the ones for self employed in the ten ninety nine they're going to be retroactive to March twenty ninth so they're saying look we know it's going to take you awhile probably to get through but they're going to let it be retroactive which obviously is good yeah in this situation a buddy of mine got furloughed the other day and you know I was talking to him on the phone and he actually said he got on I think you said the same day and he was just patient you know he said the other day was saying that it was kind of funny I can't remember if this was Sunday are Mondays press conference he goes you know if you click on something and you get that little saying that spans and we all refer to what is the spinning wheel of death right and and that that that press conference I think he was probably trying to avoid using that term and you could hear doctor acted on the side gone is the spinning wheel of death thanks it really by you know the moral of the story was don't keep pounding on it because every time you do that it just sends you to the back of the queue so it's thinking it's trying to you know run it's it run its course and if you keep pounding on it you're just putting yourself further and further in the back of the line and my body was saying he did just exactly that he said he clicked on it and you got the spinning wheel and he got up and he when he got he got a Cup of coffee and he came back and then you know if you can okay but he clicked on it again and over time he was able to navigate it but don't keep hammering on stuff because you'll never get through are you kidding me this we live in we live in a society where people are willing to commit to a felonious assault if they have to wait five extra minutes for their chicken nuggets at macdonalds gratification yeah good lord yeah now I my my brother is a very impatient person and he had all sorts of problems getting on but I think he was one of the F. five versus you know just the refresh refresh refresh by the time he finally did get his claim and and he was you know he worked at a a gastro pub is a bartender back in the Dayton area that was a pretty successful place was packed you know almost every night and you know right now there's a lot of uncertainty whether they may even re open you know the the owners were I mean this isn't like a big chain it was to private individuals and they've got and there got reassessing they they you know they there's no guarantee that that's going to re open so it's it's yeah it's a scary time I I'm you know there's not a day that goes by that you just if you still have a job thank god you feel you feel grateful very much all yeah do that yeah there's no doubt about that I'm I'm with you man my wife as well still has her job and during these times you were right and there is it is a lot to be thankful for and I obviously we're surrounded by other people that were watching with this in the heck do in the story obviously thou every but there's a ton of people that are not as fortunate right now so I'm I count myself very very blessed the other thing is there's another thing here to remember during about you know about this process with regard to the unemployment claims they're saying on the weekends if you need to call the little smoother so they're actually obviously taken this stuff on the weekends too so you can actually you know go that route keep that in mind as you as you're doing this well also see what else that Houston said to was that you know this isn't he he's like we just brought in a hundred people we just train people he goes this this takes time to learn the system it's not just simple you know keep punch stuff you gotta know what you're doing to navigate the system and they're they're doing the best they can yeah so right now you guys April fools day did you see Google cancel this so I guess since we will cancel it I guess it's officially canceled right in I I saw very few people on my social media accounts doing anything trying to be funny today it just it didn't feel right I think I saw one that said somebody thought they were real clever you know was like I'll guess what the whole covert nineteen thing we're we're just kidding yeah yeah real real freakin hilarious ill advised or I actually was waiting on people saying you know that it's you know they've did you guys hear that this weekend they finally said we're going to lift that you know like I was waiting on that kind of stuff which I didn't really see today and Hey good for the people that did not put that who maybe were even thinking about it there's other ones right now to that if you click it said like they're going to be closing liquor stores was one of the store I don't look like an actual story did you see any of that did you guys I said I'm not I've I've seen that I've seen that going around for a little bit now yeah absolutely and you click on it and it's like I ha I got you know or whatever and you know what I did I actually get to the league unfriended that person because I was like you know what there's no room for any like crap right now for a tip for me because you know what if that ends up being some sort of you know something that you click on and you get a virus or something that I I just don't have any room for stuff like that right now I I I know and I I'm certain my patience level well it was never great to begin with that my my wife will tell you that as well you know it's kind of funny because you can reference your brother be in that way too so I take it ordinary runs in the seas for him it does kind of a little over the top aggressive bombastic however you want to put it but you know last night my wife gives me a call she says Hey we're running low on whole milk for the kids now at this point if I can avoid Kroger I'm gonna avoid Kroger I don't expose myself to seventy five other people so I stop off at the B. P. down the road from all just literally five minutes from my house if last M. because it's much less crowded but there's this one guy that was in there just one guy and from the time I walked in he's rummaging through the ice cream bar case just like that you know the one that little doubt sits on the floor you slide open I'm here he's manhandling like package after package and then from the time I walked to the back the store to grab the gallon then I walk up to the front of the cashier he steps in front of me and then he spends three minutes doing scratch off tickets and those Yakin up at the cashier who was just bored and want to get out the house I'm like sure that's the kind of people that the governor her and everyone else is telling state home it's like they don't get you know they're just not getting it I guess well the thing there to deal if you ask me would have been you know if you looked up and saw that you had one gallon of milk to buy knowing he was going to do this scratch offs and he was out of his house he was bored or whatever it's like come on man just let you go ahead of him you know what would.

Who are going to say. Gee because she's referred to on the show by Damian. Her fiance sucked. She had some of the most savage quotes in this higher season. And I want to highlight one. Which is she says to her fiance. Damian you know how you tell me that this is the best sex of your life. Have you noticed that? I don't return that complement stating silence. Followed that exchange. Absolutely savage She also that she was so where there are cameras on her. She knew that she was going to be televised. She was so dramatic that theatrics in which she spoke. It was so unrealistic. When and then you know so much crazy when they laugh a lot when you fight and you're like really nervous when people do that and then he loved her at the altar and she ran fell in mind and then she tore up her wedding dressing. Threaten the space so actually a really great showing from Gina. Let's talk about the finale. I wish you were talking about this for so much. We got to keep going. The finale was quite terrible to people. Got No two people got married amber and Barnett. Amer and then I was like. Oh it's okay and like you don't have a job in your four and like you appear discriminated against because. We're pretty like Cheryl Mary like are you. Okay and love love. And then Lauren and Cameron got married as well. Yeah really savage. They left the the way that it worked was that you had to be in a wedding dress or suit be up on the ultra. Go through a exchanged vows with your family there with your friends there and then you are they say I do or I don't what is just better. Better way you coulda done this earlier. It makes me cringe. Ranks absolutely dead last in the amount of reality Romance TV. I've watched in the last couple of years and I'm used detox In general yeah there. I don't watch very much. So you're the expert but yes was quite horrible. It made me feel bad about people. Yeah and I think people might be bad and dumb and I don't ever want to date any of them cracked. I did a big deep dive with Juliet. Lipman on Bachelor Party more about love is blind so if you want more of that great content. Let's check about security category this week in Social Media Kate. You're all over this. Let's just start when someone has to be right Actually this is one of your favorite people. Yes I know. This is about Guy Fiji. I am gunning as being a come in contact when I said he was at Miami Food Festival this past week and apparently it's like where he hits. He hits it every time he's like no of course he does he and actually absolutely believe that if I went anywhere in Miami. And you're like what celebrity would you be most excited to see like in a club? And you're like sewn zones oh or Guy Furio. It'd be like fear. I on ironically like him alive. Diner start have saved me from tough times. Where does diners drive in? This is rank as compared to love is. Oh this top of the list and then very bottom of the list so yeah guy. Here was living his absolute best live. Who's out here a little John? He's just like the person to see at Miami Food Festival and I'm just really happy for him like I love the he's still relevant and that he's not problematic at that. I know of and if he is don't tell me. Yeah Fuck Bobby. Flay Guy Fieri all day every day. All right next one okay so obviously. There's a lot of like scary corona virus coverage out there. I mean for good reason. Obviously one little highlight among the corona virus coverage South Korea is on this major lockdown and they brought back the BBC. Dad Talk about it and his name's Robert Kelly. I don't know if you remember him. I'm sure you do. He was the one who was on BBC talking about something related to South Korea for years ago and his kids busted in the back and was like we're like hanging out it's like why came walking and then one was in one of those baby machines where you can kind of wiggle side cited moves witty just like one of the Internet moments of all time and he's like well. I came in like drive that obviously we all know so. He came back for this interview about virus. But he's in the same study and he's like the same like awkward washed out skype face and so the tweeting doors locked. Which first of all. If you're Robert Kelly seems like a great guy. Wouldn't you move it? The wouldn't you go into the office that day. Any other room house and I guess it's just like his thing now he doesn't seem like he's like really trying to like like turn it into something which is good. He's just living his life but I'm like go to a different room. Robert Kelly hard to listen to the whole time. I was staring at the Derby. When is that baby and yeah but he does. He's he's very positive. The he said people keep asking what it's like to be in South Korea during krona and he goes no. It's not World War Z. It's this. It's a picture of him playing connect four with this kid. He can't go to work and my kids can't go to school so we're playing a lot of connect for at home and she's really cute picture of here with his kids. That's a positive outlook. You're telling the world what it's really like. Yeah just like move your skype from BBC somewhere else. I next time. This is another that we really need. Amelia for poor one out. So this week over. Saatchi's ice bucket challenge started making the rounds again Obviously she did it way back when when I was happening then she uploaded it to tick tock when she got a tick tock and now it's like making the rounds on twitter again and. I absolutely cannot do it justice. I need you to look up. But she goes. Donna Taliban sits down and she has these two shirtless models with chains on standing behind her. And she's like my challenge so she says asl allies and then she nominates farrow and prince. Which was the main the main. We're like okay. This didn't happen this year. Being circulated somethings you just did. Never I'm like okay. She's not mainly princes not done in the year of our Lord Two Thousand Twenty should be poured on her head like before she's ready guttural scream and it absolutely is incredible content and I highly recommend more of that impression than I thought. Honestly had to. Keith has the such guttural. It's you have to watch their voices tabulate special next one of people of all celebrity children this week people have decided to blow up John. C Reilly's Sunspot It all started with this tweet from Zeba Blais. And she's a writer at the Huffington Post and she wrote so the right is John C reilly son and like that's it that was the entire tweet is just a photo of John C reilly who I only know I know. He's a very prolific actor. Mo- I've seen him the most in Chicago because we watch that movie a million times and then his son right next to him and he's twenty two years old his name is Leo and he has God's given bone structure late from the gods themselves. He I mean I think he is a model he has has to be. He is like big on instagram. He apparently he has ticked talking lip. Syncs to Rap Music Bob Blah on his instagram but I think he actually does music himself. He is so attractive. It's kind of unbelievable. I always feel so bad because the whole point of this is like. Can you believe this man came from John? Now that's all the constantly like shows the mom because he washes actually lovely. You can actually Kinda tell when you see her. He definitely take after her. It just jeans are absolutely wild. He's just absolutely beautiful specimen. So if you want to consume okay last son and Social Media. Hey this is actually vital content. We're on that feral hogs beat. This is a cousin of feral hog this week. A hob Alina in Tucson Arizona went viral for absolutely book in it a longest street. And if you've never seen a heavily I don't I'm trying to ask what what is have Alina. It's I'm dying right now. It's a cousin of pig. Oh it's type of animal. Did you watch the video? I just didn't really believe was a name for the plate. Is was Halloween No it's it's a breed of animal. Excuse me okay if you did not that far from Arizona okay. I feel like you should know anyway. This Haba Lena is running is running down the street and I don't know how you describe its body. It has the most dense round body and these little legs. But it's moving so fast and it's got this plane knows and it's just it's like really fat pig that Harry pay running along a road and people are putting its music. Sending it to every song has ever had run in the title. Yeah my sister for entire life zone brother. My family loves doing it. The only thing I can think of when I look at this pig hybrid. Whatever you WANNA call. It looks like a horse the gate. It's going to his so fast so elegantly. It's like body so aerodynamic despite being.

And so when when they saw the joy that they were giving to people in desperate straits that really resonated for them in a different way that then, you know, people like us have grown up in a very comfortable situation. I think those kind of hard knocks really tense, you humility, and it teaches you that everyone should be treated with dignity and kindness. If you can there's a kind of kindness of all. In this to stunned that doesn't mean it's low growl. Doesn't mean that it's not smart because it is smart. It's smart comedy in the quite subtle and nuanced in the performances in in between the slapstick, but they, but they actually, you know, the the warmth of the comedy is something I think that you forget because it was not only the depression to the rise of fascism in Europe at the time is pre second World War and people those an appetite for this. Sort of this loving comedy. Because. I just thought of a good example of how the how the comedy could've been dumb. But wasn't fact intelligent. So there's this whole thing the cliches fatty fall down, you know, like effect, I fall on haha. But what was funny about it? When Oliver did it was not the fall down part was afterwards. Annoyance is with my place in life. You know? And that's then just fatty fall down. You know, even though they were trafficking in that kind of broad stuff. They would always add this layer of I don't know like existential crisis or something we're looking into the lens was very bold thing to do the time. All. Which I think was which was I think happened by accident. Didn't it? Did it have him? I really well. Yeah. They would shooting something, and I think sandwich deliberately say he you'd say like we're gonna have you done by four don't worry Ollie and then four fifteen four twenty four thirty. And then he would do these things where you needed a certain reaction when all was like dying to get out of there. Go to the golf course. He's And I and think. I think those the the look, but I think the first downlands was like an accident thing where he just said, oh, that's great do that again when he was genuinely. Documentary with someone said that. Yeah, it was like it was just a tight twiddling thing. That was an accident will thing he was doing because I think he he didn't know what to do in the limousine something. And he said do that tight stance. Do that thing you Tiga, we're gonna take a quick break? And then I'll be back with more with John C Reilly and Steve Coogan when we come back in just a moment..

"Sometime within the next month or so. I'm probably going to combine the two into one website really. Now you write a lot of content and against the listeners out there just so we get this. We have a lot of shows on search, not position, and I'm going to tell you this. I'm looking it up right now is the index, his son. I checked it out on the screen here, our main man, John John. I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but you are actually just telling the truth and you don't have three thousand three hundred sixty pages of content on book marketing, bestsellers, dot com. So that's a lot of content. My man, yes, I didn't know I had that much, but it's a lot of content and it really does make a difference enter having traffic to your website. Good job, my man. That's pretty impressive. Dude. That's I mean that's three z. That's three thousand three hundred sixty pages now just to give the listener some context. Again, if you sat down today and you're trying to beat Mr John there on on the Google search. Engine results, you would have to write for nine point two years every day, seven days a week just to tie him and the way Google's algorithm works. It's the incumbent person gets to be there longer. You know, you have to produce more than John c. probably need to start writing right now for twelve consecutive years than John. You have to stop today. Yeah to. Wow, that's impressive. I did not know yet damage content. I'm impressed. That's impressive. Okay. Now plan, two questions I have for you and then zeal kind of went up me with the final question here. There's a listener out there that needs help marketing their book. Can you is that a service you do now people higher you? Should they buy your book? What's the best way you can help them market their book?.

"Gregory Bateson and the US navy and an him and lily were all kind of influenced by the research that was going on at the center in Lilly pitched human dolphin communication to NASA at the time saying that if they were going to encounter aliens, this is the perfect way for them to sort of come up with a model of communication standards with an alien intelligence yet to to make sense, right. If you're attempting to communicate with a has a different yet equal form of consciousness. Yeah. And this could conceivably be an experiment in that, and you can see now where they have the dolphin came from. I don't know what year that came out. I want to say it was early seventies, maybe, but if you've never seen the movie before it involves the George C, Scott as John C, Lilly. They both had season middle character teaching dolphins to speak English. They can speak English, and I believe it's on behalf of the US government. And you know, they say things like fall of Pau, right? Like. Pau pawn, and I think he names them all things that rhyme with Pau because it's easier for them to pronounce or whatever. It's kind of silly movie, but it's also a little bit touching away. So yeah, the the book is a huge success inspires these movies. It's the idea to spills spreads like wildfire. And this was a period again, the fifties and sixties during which fascination with the underwater world is really taking off. This is the time of the scuba really, really exploding. Jacques Cousteau is making a big name for himself. Yeah, it's the time of c hunt and in nineteen sixty three. Of course. You see the television show flipper. Yeah, a mainstream television show about an intelligent dolphin that communicates human. Yeah, and this is where we come back to our connections to the creature from the black lagoon. Oh, yeah, hit me. So I kind of forgotten this, but that TV series flipper. Yeah, was based on a nineteen sixty three film of the same name. Okay. A film co create. Hated by recu Browning. Okay. Recoup Browning worth at marine studios, which we mentioned earlier where where lily initially went down to study dolphins and Browning actually portrayed the creature from the black lagoon in the first two films. So lillies actually the guy wearing the rubber suit. He was a guy in the earth's to creature. Okay. And and again, he co created flipper and lily is actually thanked in the credits to the nineteen sixty three film flipper. So that's nuts. Wow. Okay. Well, yeah, and it also makes me think of the film version of twenty thousand leagues into the sea was made around that time to probably right. I don't know the specific date on that. But yeah, there is that fascination with sort of undersea adventure. Yeah, it's opening up to us in ways that it just had not been previously available. And so we're, we're fascinated with this new world down there and then to to to also have this potential revelation late on our plate that there is an Intel. Silence down there more or less on par with our own. I wonder what John C Lilly thought of the abyss. I don't know. That would have been interesting. Yeah, that's probably in a way that's very lily movie isn't in so studies at the centre continue again, lillies approached gradually moves away from the sort of creepy world of them is work and into less invasive techniques, abandons the use of electrodes, and instead attempts to essentially meld minds with the dolphins to understand the shape of their consciousness..

"Yeah. Even though his playing mister cellophane. These movies, they all came out at the same time and yeah, that someone said this last year about a John C Reilly award where it's become a thing. If you can get three fee, if you can be in three of the best picture nominees, but that's ten nominees. So it's easier. Yes, unless they go back to five. I don't know if they should have to. Yeah. When did you go out and Chicago one, obviously, so that must have been fun. Did you go out to all the after parties and everything? I mean, do you have any memories from that? Honestly, that whole period of time was so I wasn't ready for it. I don't think honestly, I wasn't. I've never won anything. I've never won awards still to this day. Haven't maybe. I don't think I've ever won an award while I was in competition with other people for something. So it's really foreign to me and this whole idea of like going out and trying to win an award. I was like, what is that? I didn't even know. I didn't even know that's what people did when I when I was nominated, they're like, okay, you got to go to this party this when you had meet this person, but why in order to win. I had, you know, innocently thought it was a meritocracy and that people would just vote for what they liked. You know, I didn't realize it was all this glad-handing involved, but so, yeah, it was a little overwhelming. Honestly, I had gone kind of under the radar for so long. I think I'd made twenty five or thirty movies at that point. And all of a sudden I was getting all the attention and expected to be able to speak eloquently in in schmooze or whatever. And I was just a lot of pressure. I thought my work was supposed to speak for me. But it was a great year and I was really actually happy that I didn't win that year because I just was not ready for that amount of attention to suddenly have some gold statue in my hand, and everyone asking me even more questions like, I don't think I was ready. Plus Chris Cooper was incredible inadaptation, you know, so happy. I feel like one of the good guys won, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was very satisfying and the whole thing, just the fact that that that all those movies put me in that room was like, I already one, you know, got tuxedo and sit next to Marti says it, you know. So has your point of view on all of it changed in the in the year sense? I mean, well, I'm a lot older than I was then a lot more work and I've I'm coming up on something like eighty movies now. And now I come to see, you know, especially with the film like the sisters, brothers, it's a vital and one of the last avenues to get something that's not a superhero movie too. To an audience. Yeah, you know, it's become this, you know, I think it's maybe started out as kind of like a salesman of the year, kind of a word know. It was like an inside kind of industry thing. Like, you know, like they do for plumbers or whatever. You know, like great job selling shower rings this year, whatever. But now it's become this necessary component of the marketing of films that don't have immense hundred million dollar budgets, you know? So now I see as a very, I understand why now that it's not about me or my ego, yes, it's very nice to be acknowledged by your peers, of course, but it's, it's a really vital way of getting the film to audiences and and continuing the attention and and the marketing of the film. Essentially, you know, are you surprised that Adam McKay has pivoted from making crazy comedies to being doing all this prestige stuff in film and no, I'm not surprised at all. And you know if you know Adam, he's one of the most intelligent people have ever met first of all like, incredible incredible brain on that guy. And also. Of the most subversive people, you know, you can dismiss comedy, but great comedy is very smart. You know, in order to really stay ahead of an audience. And really, I mean, I love pratfalls and that kind of thing. Of course, there's a magic to that kind of comedy, but the sort of work that.

"So I think that's one of the reasons that the characters are so compelling. The movie. You just see them as these lost boys in a way. Yeah. Yeah. They're having this kind of belated awakening, maybe to another other sides. Then they meet Jake Jilin haw -rism ED's characters, and they formed some of the first friendships they've ever had in their whole lives outside of each other. So I don't know this really interesting first moments for people in this movie, whether it's the first toothbrush for the the first time you have like an open emotional conversation with another person besides your brother. Yeah. One thing I wanted to ask you about, I saw you and Philip Seymour Hoffman in true west way back in the day, and obviously you guys did on other films together as well. I mean, yeah. Can we talk about that do? Oh two and Phil Hoffman. I Fillon I came up together through Paul Anderson's movies on though forget when Paul found Phil for hard aid pulse first movies. I just found the next John C Reilly. And I was like, you man. And then of course, I met Phil and I was like, oh my God. All right. Here we go. Guys. Amazing. Yeah. So we worked together with Paul, I and then and then I actually convinced him to do true west on Broadway with me and that I think I think Phil was here he would. He would agree that was pretty defining moment in our lives. We were thrust into the crucible of the Broadway theatre scene and awards and all that kind of stuff and got very good reviews. And the play itself was this incredibly demanding, psycho drama. We switched care just to make it even harder which characters every night. Right. Not every every three performances which sounds easier except on a.

"Rallies voice in it's perfect. It's just it's a, it's a beautiful match of character actor. So let's listen to my conversation with John c. rally. So thrilled to be here with John C Reilly who has four films coming out this year, and the one we're going to talk about, I certainly is sisters, brothers, a western kind of unconventional western, and you were really you and your wife were really instrumental in making the film happen. Is that right? Yeah, we were working on independent film with Jacobs called Terry and my wife house and Deke was producing that film. I was in it. And at the end of it, we loved the writing so much because Patrick DeWitt the author of this book wrote that script as well. We asked Pat if you had anything else, and he'd just so happened to have this manuscript that wasn't even hadn't even gone to the publisher yet. So yeah, we both read it very quickly and realized, oh my God, this would make credible film. And specifically this character v. lie. I felt really connected to. So here we are seven years later. Yeah. What was it about the character that that drew you to him? Well, in general, pats. Book is a really original take on the western rather than you know base the story on other western myths, which is what a lot of kind of western stories do. Sort of the cumulative effect of this idea. We have about the west Pat went into the actual historical record, and you know, looked at a what was happening in San Francisco in eighteen fifty. One then turns out it was really interesting place was again very multicultural place. There are people just streaming in from everywhere. I found this incredible archival photograph from the time, and you won't even believe it. But when you it's real photograph and it looks like a forest with all the trees with all the leaves taken off the trees and what it is the San Francisco Bay, and it's so full of boats that have been abandoned that looks like a forest. That's thousands and thousands of boats. So what would happen was a boat would land. It's Francisco and the captain would. Just lose his crew immediately. Everyone just run into the hills to look for gold, right? So the whole place was teeming with people like that from all over the world. So pats book, he looked at what it was really liked to be alive at that time. But then also there's this startling kind of emotional vulnerability to all the men in the book. Yeah, that's something you also don't see a lot of in westerns. Western men tend to be sort of opaque and stoic and hard to read and, and just tough, you know, and these guys because my character ally in the book is sort of the narrator of the story. You really, you hear what it's like inside him, what it's like to be a killer and what it's like to be, you know, connected to this brother so intensely and what it's like to feel like you're overweight in eighteen fifty one. Just really learn how to read. Details. Yeah. Like learning how to brush your teeth.

"Check with Griffin and David wherever you get your podcast and you know, tell them, we sent you so now, Mike, let sure the interview that you John C Reilly about the sisters, brothers, as I understand it, you got him into you. Gotta got him in the room. And then the first thing he did was kick handlers which made for I think better conversation as usually happens. It sounds you guys really got into it. First thing he did was take off his beautiful hat which he had purchased from this hat store in Chicago, and I was like, did you buy it in Chicago? And he goes, oh, no, they send. To me by so many hats from this place, but it was like pristine, gorgeous green hat. Then he was like, can you guys leave so that we can like really just, you know, have a real conversation which I was actually kind of pondering doing Bill, trying to build up the courage to do. So. Yeah, it was great. We had a good chat and we talked, you know, one of the things I just wanted to do because there's he's been interviewed a fair amount recently. And that was actually kind of helpful because I read all the interviews and and was able to follow up on stuff. But one of the things he had said in one of the other interviews was that he, he's always kind of a side kick. He's always in a duo. And so I was excited to talk to him about what keen Phoenix but also will Farrell and also Philip Seymour Hoffman. And you know some of the other folks that he's had these great and Steve Coogan because he's got, he's got four movies coming out this year, but the one that he wants to talk about it and his and his touring in support of as it were is sisters, brother because he sisters, brothers, because he and his wife produce. It has read the book before it was even published and was like, this is a movie. And so they, they went and pursued the rights and he, he kinda shepherded it from there to here. So I, I enjoyed it. It was. It was a fun talk. I'm so excited to listen this interview, but what's so fascinating to me, I, I read that book knowing that this movie was coming. And once you know, the John's e Riley is playing that role. It really helps but connect. 'cause you just here every single line in John's.
