"I remember covering is a report. I mean, I wasn't there but that I was aware of it as a reporter. It was on the heels of O. J. Simpson's trials. Celebrity. Court involvement was all of the rage. It was in the infant stages of court TV and all of that, and remember job today, Randy was a child beauty queen. She was made for the tabloids and playing into that was what kind of parents dresses up their six year old like of 25 year old Barbie. You know, there were all sorts of suspicions about the parents and the half brother is well, if you remember it was December 26th 1996. At her own father found her dead in the basement. Now they thought that she had been kidnapped and police were called family members and friends were at the house. Police had tried to go through the house to see if she had filed. They had left it. Whoever it was that took her because they believe that at the time Had left any sign any evidence. And then when they asked John Ramsey toe look through the house. That's when he went down to the basement and area that the police hadn't searched it and he found John Bonnie's body. There was a ransom note at the bottom of the stairs. It was a three page long ransom note. And it's said that if JonBenet's parents called the authorities she would die. The ransom was $118,000. And the note said that JonBenet's parents would receive a call from the supposed kidnapper the following day between eight and 10 a.m. Now it was curious because this Three page long note was written on the mother's stationery with a pen from the house and the father had just gotten a bonus to the exact tune of $118,000. There were also some lines in the ransom note that sounded like movies sounded like dirty Harry sounded like the movie speed and that also sounded like the movie ransom. Which was playing in Boulder, Colorado. At the time, it was everyone's first impression that it was the parents. In fact, after the police who initially arrived on the scene had searched the house or tried to, and this is after the Ramsey said already gone and messed up. All the evidence going throughout the house wiping down surfaces, all of it and the police were were just as inept. There was one detective left back there, Woman by the name of Linda ARNDT and her feeling that it was the father was so strong. She says that when he arrived back upstairs with the body of the little girl, she says, as we looked at each other, I remember I wore a shoulder holster, she said, talking my gun right next to me and consciously counting that I had 18 bullets, she said. I didn't know if we'd all be alive when people showed up that she thought that there was going to be a confrontation right then between Father and her remember she was she was strangled. Her hands were tied. She had suffered a skull fracture shocks from a stun gun and sexual abuse. And none of it was connected to John to Patsy or John, Danny's brother. And Lou Smith. The detective that we're talking about was brought out of retirement a few months after the death, and the investigation had kind of gone nowhere, and he was one of those guys who was convinced that this was an intruder that it was not the Ramsay family, which at the time Went against sort of the public perception of this case because the Ramseys themselves were being careful about when they would talk to detectives, which automatically through people into suspicion. They're being careful there, hiding behind their lawyers. They want to make sure that they don't say anything that would somehow incriminate them when they didn't have anything to do with this. Well. Lou Smit was one of those guys who actually interviewed John Manet's father, while another detective outside of the Boulder, Colorado Police Department. I think it was a Denver detective who interviewed Patsy Ramsey. They both came away with this, this feeling that they could not have done it. But that was not the privy again. The prevailing feeling even in the D. A's office at the time was that the family had something to do with us. He also spoke of these audio diaries about DNA's a evidence that police had found underneath JonBenet's fingernails and in her underwear. And that it was something that was not made public for quite a while. We'll get into his diaries when we come back. Also the fact that his daughter and granddaughter Zehr, trying to carry the torch of the investigation, Gary in Channel will continue just among We also have $1000 to give away on the other side of this. "They're like singing songs. And the thing is the songs are actually like. There's a lot of talent behind this this. The songwriter is like a famous songwriter. I i can't remember like he. John hiatt wrote a lotta the songs. Brian setzer wrote some of them. Bela fleck was involved. Elton john bonnie raitt and don henley are some the singing voices and on this movie. You've got christopher walken haley. Joel joel osman is the tiny bear mc gainey is the human member of the bear band. You got toby hus- in it. Brad garret stephen route or some of the bears like there's a lot of talent put behind this movie but the fatal flaw is this a movie about the country. Bears talent can overcome the so. It is one of those cats situations real like. Wow they are really trying to make this work and putting all their energy into a totally misbegotten idea and somehow that makes it all the more exciting to watch. So i had a lot bears in this world. Do anything besides sing. Like do they have a bear agent or a beer janitor just cleaning up after them in wednesday and there's the kid bear who wants to get the country bears back together. Who is who has such a because it is a kid. Bear who has been adopted by stephen topple ascii and the other son in the one joke referring to the fact that they're bears in this universe. The other son is like like a mind boggled that this child doesn't realize that he is adopted because he is a bear which is not a bad joke and then the rest of the movie doesn't really make. Hey about it i. It's a strange movie. I can't quite get across bent my mind. I like the idea the idea that the people making the movie. We're not we're like no one's going to be interested in how a bunch of bears started and became a band. We got to pick up after the after the band's broken up nobody's interested in the origin of country. Bear band isn't there isn't a montage of christopher walken gleefully destroying scale models of country bears like music halls or something. He's i mean like you he's committing christopher walken. He's not he's not following this part in. He's very angry about this country bears for reasons that kept clearly in the movie. Dan mris do with their heroes but It is a wacky movie. Now dan you said mc gainey was the human member of the band. Why do they have a human member in the band john. Oh he's drummer is is it possible. Is it possible. He was supposed to be a bear and they just ran out of bear costumes or that he walked onto set and they were like. Oh yeah. that's a bear and you're like movie. Hasn't you know in common with cats is obviously the main characters. Are these anthropomorphic animals and it is not as disquieting as the cgi like cat. I put over normal people but it is sort of. It is a weird look because these are people in bear suits it seems with animatronic bear heads and they fall square in the middle of the uncanny valley. So it's an unusual occurrence on disney. Plus you can watch it after the talking just reminded me that cats is on hbo. Max i think this may be the night when i forced my wife to watch i my wife my back. My my wife. And i talked about watching cats the same way that some couples talked about like having a threesome. Where she. i don't think he's like not that into it but she she'll do it for me. She's like yeah. I guess i'd watch cats. Let you and. I'm like. Maybe tonight's the night she wants to be g g jim okay. So i'm going to recommend a movie the year nineteen ninety. The city detroit michigan the movie martial law. That's right it's a martial arts movie set in michigan we have. It's about a pair of police officers. One played by the son of what's his name. We give me a second fucked up. It's okay don't know. Don't don't erase it. Dona raceway just said. I'm fixing it. Okay almost there The lead is played by chad mcqueen. Who is the son of screen legend steve mcqueen and his partner. Steve mcqueen is the name. You couldn't remember. Yeah yeah yeah i mean. That's pretty clear. And his and his partner is played by the always. Wonderful cynthia rothrock she's amazing And it's a movie filled with karate. Mullets it opens with a hostage scene. Where our hero dress up like a pizza delivery guy and then beats the shit out of a bunch of criminals and the action is shot. Well in that every time somebody gets hit there's always some kind of a reaction shot so like when when our hero martial law blast somebody in the jewels the guy it cuts to a shot of the guy being like. Oh my nuts. It's great and of course the villain in a world of hockey mullets. The villain is the only unmolested karate fellow. That's right david. Carradine is in this movie any and every scene. He's got a really cool stick. Any practices the technical dim mock where he punches people in the chest and they die from it. It's gret martial. Law is the movie stewart. Is me thank you. I'm glad i'm glad we're all bringing out the real big guns on the day. We have alonzo here so somebody knows better than any of us. I mean marshall. where's elliot. How much less go. I feel like i need. I feel like i need to rework my recommendation. I was seeing as this movie today. Involved a child and and trauma. I decided to go with the movie that i watched just recently that i had only learned that recently called lady bug from nineteen sixty three. And it's a movie about a group of schoolchildren. There's no entry school that gets an alert that a nuclear bomb is going to be dropped in the area that the war has started and they to go through what they're supposed to go through. Which is that the teachers take all the kids home and it's kind of about how the adults are at a total loss to really know what to do in this situation. They don't know if it's even a really a real alert a lot or not and how. The kids are left to fend for themselves. More or less and it's not like a lord of the flies type thing it's more of a the children trying to mirror and make sense of the emotions that the adults are feeling and taking on those roles and by doing so kind of showing how ridiculous they all are and seeing. It really brought home to me. Some things that i kind of didn't want to admit to myself about children during the pandemic right now and specifically about me and my kids and how. I need to pay more attention to kind of how they're reacting to this whole situation through my reaction to it There's one particular where this girl runs home. And her dad is a farmer and he's shoveling some stuff. I don't know what he's doing and she's like the bombs. The war started the bombs dropping. And he's like what and she's like the war they're gonna dropping the bombs and he's like i'm busy. I've got work to go. Talk to your mother. And i was like who will that hits home. I've had that conversation with my son. A bunch of times in the past year. Where it's he's like worried about something. And i'm like i've got work to do like we'll with later so it really struck home for me not in the way that the filmmakers intended because the movie is almost sixty years old. But it's called lady bug lady bug and it's i think just got re released a released on dvd. But i found the whole thing on youtube. So that's where..

And for making a successful arrests in the rest of the ship showed up backup gave mortars to get out of the car verbally. And he finally did. So, but when he did hit a cellphone to three in the morning and a cellphone somebody's hands can obviously be mistaken for something else. But the officers just did a remarkable job with restraint and verbal command. And and got the gentleman down onto the ground and safely in custody. Barrels pleaded not guilty to gun charges. Police say begun was not registered the FCC is now investigating a massive outage. That's affecting many people's ability to call nine one one from both landlines and cell phones. People are being told to call their local police or fire departments directly in case of an emergency. Now, this problem is nationwide and is even affecting many communities here in Massachusetts. Although Boston doesn't seem to be impacted but early this morning someone in Boston used an old school method to report a building fire WBZ's Carl Stevens has the story run five o'clock in the morning, Boston firefighters were called to a building fire on street. Heavy smoke coming from that building in the north end. And it wasn't somebody calling nine one one who got them there. Somebody pulled one of those bright red streetside fire boxes to get the word out Boston. Fire Commissioner Joe Finn says that fire box system which dates back to eighteen fifty two is very dependable. It's kind of nice redundant system. In the city that if we ever lose nine one one system or any technology or any of the cyber-attacks aren't like that system will always run lesson learned if there's a fire,.

"And his website back in control dot. Com Let me address one phone call we had. Last hour and I want. To be brief we run the program here I think in the most. Open, minded fashion of any talk show we give people more time. To, ask questions we give people an opportunity the the whole goal here is to give you an opportunity to participate now John from Mendon Who. His, wife called and Up on my screen and I think it was Bonnie from Mendon Gloria Gloria from Mendon Anyone who listens to, this show knows that we don't pass the. Phone around folks it's as simple as that and I've been probably too lenient with, that, a, couple of times people being a car in. Someone in the car will say hi Dan and I'll, say hi and all of that but when I'm talking with the guest on. The phone whose time is valuable in there are other people who want to. Get through there are people who we couldn't get to last hour and just so anybody everybody is clear from this when when when all of a sudden they. Pick up the phone expecting to talk to Bonnie and it's John Bonnie's husband glory excuse me Gloria Gloria and he's asking, what, do, you want that's not we do do you. Do you wanna talk to the doctor on the phone, it's not we do so please understand that you're invited to call the program. But we ask you to please please comply with the rules and the rules. Are very few and they're not that stringent but again I saw close that off in case there was any confusion over that all right Tonight we have covered a three separate topics I'm gonna open, up a fourth, topic tonight we haven't done one of. My callers or Email us the other, day said that, they thing, was. Deb said, they love, four topics well, tonight I our we? Talked about a school. In Georgia getting rid of the pledge of allegiance during the nine? O'clock hour we talked. With Dennis Walters fella who became a paraplegic to a, horrific golf cart accident and by the way those of you who drive around on golf carts it is it is a. They can, be very dangerous answer him if he wants to apologize to you please. Go ahead There was. A friend of mine who many of, you would know Mardi sender Who was a reporter on channel four was the host co host of evening magazine for many years and also worked at channel seven who died as a result of an accident that he had well Ronnie in a. Golf cart so Golf court acts golf cart accidents maybe rare. But It can be dangerous so, please be very careful and. Then last hour doctor David Hanson spinal spinal surgery so information on Dr. Hanson just go to back in control dot com and you can find his books in seminars and. An advice and guidance in terms of Dennis Walters just if you, would like to. Attend one of his, golf exhibitions which are incredible there's an entire list particularly those of you who, looking for something, to, do with, kids As we. Wind down the summer and head towards the school year he's at upwards of fifteen or so golf. Courses throughout Massachusetts to Cape end up into Maine just go to, Dennis Walters d.. E. n. n. I, s. w. a. l. t. r. s. dot com and you can You you receive an inspirational, experienced let me put it like that okay this hour I want to go to a topic and I'm. Actually looking for New callers and people, who haven't had, it's a pretty simple topic I think all of you know the California is dealing with some incredible. Incredible fires they're talking about these these, major fires and there's several six? Hundred thousand acres in this fire in two hundred thousand acres? In this fire and there's a? Lot of argument about is it California's a is there is there a college environmental policies that are, causing the fires did they not have control burns you look at some of these these neighborhoods that have just been destroyed and you think to yourself can you imagine having a home living in one of those communities and realizing that that. The fires, a. Mile away or the fire. Is a half mile away and. There's. Nothing you. Can do except try to grab what you can leave thank goodness We do not have that. In Massachusetts We do have fires in. Massachusetts but they don't reach that size so California for years has been using prison inmates. To help support on the fire lines and, I'm reading an article here that says just give. You sense what, we're gonna talk about California's suffering record. Baked breaking fires in the Mendocino complex Car in Ferguson fires continue so to combat the flames the state is turning, to what this writer says is a controversial practice prison labor the. California Department of, corrections and rehabilitation recently boasted about the use of prison labour for firefighting. On Twitter today more than two thousand, volunteer inmate firefighters including fifty eight youth offenders. A battling wildfire flames throughout. California inmate firefighters serve a vital, role clearing brush down to bare. Soil to stop the fire spread suicides like to me what they're doing is essentially stopping. The fire in which is a strategy the, tweet drew some surprise in protest but California's use. Of prison labour to fight wildfires is far from new This program goes back to World, War Two coding to Atlantic inmates have been finding California while fighters since the forties when the state I called, the prisoners to replace men assisting the, war effort more than thirty seven hundred men and women and even some juvenile offenders now voluntary, server the forest collectively they make up roughly a third of the. State's wildfire fighting, personnel and work at average of ten million hours each year responding to. Fires and other emergencies in handling community, service projects like part make park maintenance reforestation. And fire and Flint protesters Here's the problem inmates do get paid for the dangerous and potentially deadly work but the pay is paltry about an hour, one dollar an, hour, plus two dollars a day Okay that's not a lot. Of, money if you're out there for let's say ten hours that's ten dollars plus two dollars a day and the. Hours along with the possibility of seventy two hours shifts meanwhile the inmate firefighting. Program reportedly saves the state ninety to one. Hundred million dollars a year according to California officials Some of the inmates I would think probably most of the inmates all of the inmates volunteers No inmate is being dragooned into doing this some of the may. Say the appreciate the opportunity. Because they get better treatment and a, sense of doing something good it's. Not just the walls, you get rid of an inmate said you learn a lot about yourself you. Learn this stuff you can, put yourself through that you never. Thought you'd been able to do so my question is this I think, that's a great program. Now we've had some criticism of some of, the sheriffs here in Massachusetts I think we have some great sheriffs in, Massachusetts I would refer to Tom Hodson Don in Bristol County also refer to invade event invincible Itis invasion us I should say from Worcester county you go to prison if committed a crime and one of the elements of prison is not just doing the time but it's, to rehabilitate yourself I say very rarely do I compliment California which I think is a pretty messed up state right now I say hats. Off to California and hats, off to the tradition of inmates fighting fires in California saving lives and saving homes and. Hats off to the inmates. Themselves who given a choice between lying, in the cell all day or. Working in the weight, room or whatever you do in prison these days or watching big screen TV. Hats off to those men, and women adult and juvenile offenders. Who actually tried to do something positive and maybe work themselves out of Terrible situations I want to hear from some of you who would like to say something nice about prison inmates and also some of you who. Had done. Time if you've been able to rehabilitate yourself whether. It's through a program like this or something else take a bow six one seven, two five, four ten. Thirty triple eight nine two nine, ten thirty look all of us have made. Mistakes in her life you know lives some major some minor and all, of us at some point. Could have found many of us could have, found ourselves at some point in trouble with law enforcement and. If you did ever find yourself in prison and you had an opportunity to do something outside the, walls that would help would you take advantage of it and would you particularly care how much money would you wait you you would be making oh would you say I'm going to sit in my cell until I get a fifteen dollars minimum wage six one seven two, five four ten thirty triple eight nine two nine ten.
