"Send you information about new podcast episodes, resources, things that I'm checking out, things that I'm thinking. So if you want to join that that's called the devoted dads community and again, the number one more time is 7 one 7 9 one three 5 6 7 one and that's a great way to stay in touch and I actually saw that guys like Tim Tebow, Gary Vaynerchuk are using it to keep in touch with their communities. So I thought, hey, you know what? Let's try it here at dead devotionals. So welcome to vanna Monday. It is February 28th, 2022. And we're saying goodbye to February today. I can't believe we're already two full months into the new year. So this is what I want to talk to you about. Do you ever feel like you're annoyed with yourself? You know there are certain things that you should be doing, things like putting in a solid effort every day, putting yourself west and others first. Focusing on your wife and her needs. Pay more attention to your kids, pay more attention to your relationship with God. You know, we're almost at March here. How are you doing with your new year's resolutions? You know, the list goes on and on and on and on. But how many of those quote unquote should bes are you actually doing? One, two, maybe three here or there. If you're only anything like me, guys, you know, your success rate varies depending on how much sleep you're getting. However, maybe you are about work or money or any other kind of worldly issues, whether or not your kids behaved that day or that morning. If you had a recent or ongoing feud with your wife about something, you know, any kind of general anxiety, how close we feel to God on a given day, all these things, depending on where we fall, will trip us up. But let's be real with ourselves. You're the source of your own hangups and problems. Like me, you're your own worst enemy. But the good news is we have, we have somebody to fall back on here. Somebody that they could provide support for us. We're not alone. We have each other, but we also have our brother St. Paul. And I want to share with you what he writes in Romans, chapter 7 versus 19 to 25. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do, this I keep doing. Let me repeat that. For I do not do the good I want to do. But the evil I do not want to do this, I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work. Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being, I delight in God's law, but I see another law at work in me. Waging war against the law of my mind, a making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am. Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God who delivers me through Jesus Christ star lord. So then I myself in my mind and enslaved to God's law, but in my sinful nature, a slave to the law of sin. Now, can you relate to St. Paul's predicament? I don't do the good I want to do, instead I do this evil stuff, this sin that I don't want to do. Like an addict, I can't stop the sin. The short answer is, give it to God. Stop trying to do everything. I even I saw this quote by Dave Ramsey shared. And my response to it was, let go, let God let's go. Just give it, give it to God. Stop trying to do it all. In raising them right, we just ended that series last week. And raising them right is saints advice on raising children. Same theor fan the recluse writes this. Therefore, if you desire to begin to live in a Christian way, seek grace, the minute when grace descends and joins itself to your will is the minute the Christian life is born in you. Powerful firm and greatly fruitful. Once you surrender your will to the divine well, God can begin to act in your life. His grace is made perfect in our weakness. That's from second Corinthians, chapter 12 verse 9. Saint Theo fan goes on to tell us that we receive this grace as a result of our baptism and later repentance. So we are a week out if you're orthodox. And I think Catholics might be following the same schedule. I could be off on that though. But we are about a week out to great length. Now is the time to truly think about your repentance and how you can receive the grace of God in your own life. God bless you brothers. I know I know it's hard. I know it's a battle. "For this experience and this doesn't serving anymore in the way that i'm like needing something to serve me right right And like you said. It's this kind of constant chrysalis type experience like going through these transformations. And i think like your. Your experiences is common in that we get into these jobs. We stay with those jobs and my experience has been like. I needed to do several different. And i don't even know if like what i'm doing now is what i'll do Probably won't be. It might be some different iteration of it right But what i'm doing now like definitely is is serving my emotional unintended intellectual desires of moment curiosity in like like you said being able to house conversations with people in dig in a bit but yeah the I don't know it's kind of wild looking back at your life right like things that are so clear now is like i was in the midst of some stuff at that point it truly and i had this conversation brought it up on. Actually the episode of the podcast. It's running right now with dr john bologna. I brought it up with a net. Podcast is conversation to have with my daughter. And i i mentioned now a lot this Stepping out of the matrix you know. We were walking down the street in our neighborhood. These people didn't choose these houses society chose to announce forum look inside. It's just a bunch you know. It's it's so many things that we try to fill these voids with. And i told a friend at lunch recently that i am at a point in my life where there's nothing i want that money can buy now. I do things i need. I need who'd i need shelter and what i loved to stroke a check and have my farm paid off and be able to just stay out in the woods and train and grow organic foods and back this mindfulness and write and do the podcast..

"And tim again. If you're listening come on. Let's talk this out. Let's let's let's let. I wanna help me help me help you. You can tell that guy has reached the pinnacle of whatever success. He could have possibly imagined right i. I don't think that tim ferriss could've ever got his brain around where he is. I mean yesterday. I'm listening to his show and he would not even mention a retreat that he would recommend for psychedelics and some of the things that he's experimenting with or he's really pushed for for. Ptsd in those. He wouldn't even recommend one of those retreats because he knew his influence was so powerful. It would do them more harm good. It would be kind of like what you guys saw at best buy or i saw at home depot. You create a new widget and best buy says yes. Sure we'll buy that home. Depot says yeah. We'll buy that and your life is destroyed forever because you can't fulfill just it just changed everything and so yeah you know. He has a deal if he's got the I think it's called the five bullet friday. That's his news. If he puts a book in their amazon will oftentimes just sell out again. He can take these books that having been bestsellers in forever and they'll become amazon best-sellers with one email and it. It's just unbelievable info. Yes yeah and i gotta believe again like i said. I've listened to him last year. And i think that tim ferriss. Who who he. He's been very transparent about dealing with depression. And some of those things. I think that he probably got here. Plan armchair psychologist one conversation with Dr john bologna and nothing. I know everything But about anxiety but i just get the sense that he probably would would probably kind of like to be back where you and i are right now. I mean this is an and that's why i say this because i think we're going to keep going. I think we're gonna keep pushing. I think that just being out there and hopefully doing like what you did for being greenfield. What you have done for. Your clients is add value. And once if you keep adding value eventually people are gonna notice. And they're going to say hey. Come teach me that. Hey come guide me at that and so it won't be like this forever and it can't be i want i want you know the stone chesler that i mentioned to you. I want that to be a a new york times bestseller. I want to. I want this podcast to be downloaded a million times. So that people can go man that you know what fat goofball from texas can get on there and bark into a microphone and have a conversation with a guide south carolina that he met through the james auditor show then surely i can do something i want that but right now man and this is the point listener and by the way you can take your head away from the speaker now. I don't want you to have a wreck this is. I'm just telling you this is so much. Fun and there's so much fulfillment and none of it has to do with anything material. You don't have really gotten into here of late. Is the minimalists do you watch you watch. What josh and o. Rien i think they were actually just on. They visited nashville and they were just on the dave ramsey they were they. Run the dave ramsey show and It's weird because i had watched their first their first netflix documentary. Yup a while. "I'm Dave Ramsey, your host. Thank you for joining us. America opened phones this hour, a triple 882552 to 5. That's triple 882552 to 5. Amanda starts off this hour. Dr. John Bologna is my co host today, and she's in Cincinnati. Hi, Amanda. How are you? Yeah, but how are you guys doing better than I deserve. What's up? We are getting ready to list our house in about a week or so. We already spoke with a realtor, and she had originally recommended to hum between 345 355,000 kind of creating a bidding war. Um, my husband and I are somewhat concerns that that's gonna leave money on the table that the market the way that it is, we could let the home higher and still possibly get a bidding war for this area. Okay, well, it's just a matter where the bidding stops not where it starts. Okay, Right. Okay, Let's say you like, Let's say you listed for 3 55. And the bidding runs it up to did you see? Said three, right 3 55 you listed for 3 55 in the bidding room set up to 400. Are you listed for? 3 75 in the bidding runs it up to 400. You still got only 400. But my point is where it ends up. It's not where it starts. My question is, what is it about your real estate agent? That makes you think you and your husband are smarter than the professional. You hired. Hey, Glad tells me either You got a crappy professional. You need to get a new one that you trust or you and your husband need to dial it back about 30%. Let the professional you hired do their job. So what? What is it about this person? She's younger. Um so just always a concern. I've not worked with her before One of our L piece She is not. She is a very determined young lady. She has been contacting us. We've been our house. We're almost 20 years and she's been contacting us often throughout those years to check in to see how things were going to see if she could offer her services. So she's Very proactive and trying to drum up business, which was how many houses did she sell last year? I let my husband take her. I didn't do the research, which is not good on my part. This is this is a $900,000 transaction and you're hiring a professional. You need to know how often they sell the house. If she sold four houses last year. You've got the wrong person. Yeah. You don't want a neophyte guiding you through this market. This is not a market for this not amateur hour. This is a weird market and what you're worried about his can she handle the bidding process and if she's done five or six of these in the last two months In can walk you through. The transaction was exactly what happened. We'll talk about this, and she sold 50 houses last year. We'll talk about this. If she sold three houses last year, you know more about it, and she does. Yeah, and Amanda, I'm giving you a hard time. I just got friends who will go, You know, get an X ray and the doctor will say, Hey, I think it's this and that's me. Don't go now. That's not right. And I think what Why did you go to that doctor or they'll get a roof around? But that's not the problem, And the roof was, like all right, man, And so I just I just always curious is why people hire professionals and then they go now. That's not right. I got Google. I'm smarter. Yeah, well, we have a problem that we've run into is we've hired of many professionals or what we thought were professionals and More either not able not able to get them to do the work, most of them we can't get a call back, and then we just end up doing it ourselves and trying to figure out already listed the property and sand. The listing agreement. We have not circle back reinterview her go online at Dave Ramsey dot com. Our rooms your solutions dot com and click on the LP and interview one of those people or two of those people. And pick among those three based on their experience and their ability to show you that they know how to navigate this. This whacked out white hot market that we're in how to navigate the bidding process. So you know, John, picking on you is one thing. I'm giving you a hard time, but But the truth is that you don't truth is he did call out that you just don't have confidence in her. Yeah. Yeah, And that's what's that's the end of the story right there. So we need either gain confidence in her by circling back one more time and comparing her to to others or dropper. I don't care how persistent she was, uh, you know, and so because you need someone to navigate this, and I think either way you could end up at the 400 mark or whatever the mark is. Whether you start at 3 55 or 3 75. If you've got someone that knows how to navigate that process and juggle those multiple offers coming in set, the deadlines set the table properly where there's a bunch of urgency for a, uh you know the 10 people that want to put in an offer. And go, guys. Here's what we're doing and Ah, you know It doesn't matter if you started a 300. If everybody keeps ratcheting up and get you to 400, right? Right? So again, the starting position doesn't matter who can navigate this. Market. It's not amateur hour and Amanda, This is me being honest here. I'm that. That's why I'm the pot talking of the kettle here. No, I'll do it. My wife. It drives her crazy. Why did we hire people? John, if you just could disagree with them after they tell you so well, because I don't think because you need to be able to defend your position. I love that. That's I I agree with you, you know? The first baby we had we go in, and I'm asking all these questions because I don't know anything about it. And, uh, you know, and I'm like, no. What about this? I read about this, and he's like back and forth back and forth with the nurse. It was in there thought it was ridiculous that I was asking all these questions like you just say. And so she called me Dr Ramsey every visit after that. How are you doing today, Doctor, And I'm like, Well, honey, you know, maybe you're not used to people questioning whether you know what the flip you're doing or not, but I'm paying you. You worked. For me, and I'm happy to ask you if you're competent and what I've found is true Professionals love teaching about their craft. She was she was good natured about. Of course, the whole Dr Ramsey sarcasm had a roof for out the other night and They did some work in my house and I had a question about some of the work. They did. They came out and they spit for once I start asking questions he loved teaching about roof in and he knew exactly was talking about. He left his tool with me and said, You use it. You bring it back when you're done with because I'm right. And I want the bulldozer got to do. That would be cool. That would be also use this over the weekend, and I'll be back there. E gotta most your meter. You got a bulldozers? Yeah, I love I love asking questions to professionals and the ones in my experience. The ones who don't have an attitude about it, but are excited to talk about with their craft is the doctor's like Want to send you research articles when I have good discussion. I love that the theologians that want to do that. But if they blow up and they're, like, arrogant and like, Listen, I'm the doctor. I'm like, Listen, No, you're not anymore. I'll get another one. Yeah, I'll get another because I'm gonna know enough about what's going on to make a decision. At least ask a question. Well, I'm steward over my life. I have to manage my life.

"It is your show America Triple 882552 to 5. I'm Ken Coleman joined by my colleague, Dr John Bologna, and we're gonna go to Phoenix, Arizona. Next work. Cameron is on the line. Cameron, How can we help? He can't have you going? I'm I'm stoked that you guys are filling in for the show today. I just kind of wanted to tell you for a long time. You are the man. I appreciate it and all the work that you do. Well, it's very nice. It's very nice. I will send you a check after the show today. Uh, that sounds. Yeah. How could we, um and John and I also wanted to really quickly I wanted to tell you, you. You know my wife and I bought your book a couple months back. He helped us through a really hard time. So I appreciate the work that you guys do. Thanks, brother, appreciating them. Very kind. So what's up? No problem. So I've got a question. So I am right now. I've got a full time job and I've got a I'm trying to live the dream of a turning my side dig into my full time job. And I'm looking to expand a little bit. But the more that I grow. I realize I'm just realizing more and more that I'm I'm just one person and I can work as much as I can work, especially having a full time job. Wife and the child at home. And so I'm looking into, um kind of expanding. I don't necessarily know the difference between 10 99 on day having an employee surface level. I know that 10 99 sees a little bit better for me, but I wanted to get your guys his opinion on the difference. What's the work you do? And what would the work Be for Ah person that you would hire So I do wedding films. So people hire me to film their wedding. And then I give them a video to basically as a memory s O. The work that I would hire out would be if I'm booked a certain day or if I'm working on a certain day I was, I would basically Contract out, um, that that wedding to somebody else, and then I would take over in the editing portion, but I didn't know if that was the best way to go about it. I think it absolutely is. I think it's for small business like yours where you are the business even as you begin to hire maybe some other camera folks. You're still the guy. You're the business because you're the relationships and they're kind of getting you from word of mouth is probably most likely how you get your business. So at this stage of the company I like the 10 90 nines is the contract you pay him. And you issue Metin 99. Your bookkeeper does that It's a lot cleaner, a lot easier as opposed to you, making him a full time employee. There's a lot more work there and expense for you as well. You're just not there yet. This is such a labor. Driven business. You know, I just I love you Stay in 10 99. As long as you can will be my advice and usually the rule of thumb on the 10 99 is if they're bringing their own tools. And they're bringing their own camera their own stuff, and they're handing you over that rock product then you could feel good about that Kind twin. They're coming to pick him up. You're up your equipment, your stuff. They're showing up with you, and they Was it walks like a duck and talks like a duck. If they're an employee of yours, and they're going to work every day, and you'll have a big business going in the right thing to do is to make them an employee. Okay, Awesome. And then I do have a follow up. Question of fuel a lot away. I guess I'm just wondering, Um my my wife is she grew up in a household where you go to a job, and it's secure, and that brings some sort of peace to her. So The idea of me jumping from my full time job into this side gig that seems to be a forever side gig in her mind, I guess once the income the goal for us is to match my my G again come to my full time income and then just kind of take a smooth step. But I'm just wondering Is this step going to be scary? Like no matter what, or should I feel? Completely natural. I guess I'm just it should feel classes. Yeah, I get it. First of all, to be scared of it is to kind of go. Oh, my gosh. Moving from where someone else is paying me to? I gotta pay myself that's scary in and of itself. But this is a math. Problem. And once we solve the math problem than the emotions can come along with it, so I don't think it should be scary. But here's what would need to be true in my opinion, because I'm thinking of Stacy in the same situation. What would I need to do to make Stacey not feel scared and myself? Not be scared. So two things. One. I've got to be generating the income in the side hustle to be able to pay myself. Already sitting in the account. That would be a minimum for me, and then you sit down with your wife. You go. Hey, look. We where we have no debt. We've got our personal emergency fund in place. We're walking this thing out and then in the business, the wedding photography or videography business. I've got six months of my salary already in the bank, and I've got work lined up. And so I think when you get to that point, I'd feel pretty darn good about going for it. And understand this camera. Dave tells a great story about it. It was Grandma. I'll you, sir. I think that's who it was. That he was making millions when she had mentioned to him. Hey, what are you gonna just get a real job? Because there are people who a real job is a place that you go and you get a paycheck and a W. Two. That's just in some people's hearts and minds not going to change that with everybody. But Qin touched on a great It's about security for your wife. It's about safety..

"Ramsey show. I'm John Bologna with my good friend Rachel Cruze, and we're taking your calls on life Money Triple 882552 to 5. We have somebody in our lobby that wants to ask the live question. Got the headset only standing on the debt free stage, not doing the debt free scream. Yet, but he wants to ask us a question in person, or we have to look each other in the eye, which is kind of funny and did this doesn't happen very often. That's what's really cool, so I can. I'm just overwhelmed to be here today. Well, we're grateful that you're here. So what's going on, man? I could help. So I passed your church and seven on the way we have about 400 people in attendance right before covert started. We were about to pull the trigger on building a new sanctuary. Last year, we did our first financial peace university class in our church this year. We just started a new one last week in man, we It's changed my wife myself, my wife's life. That Nick, you're here with us. Today. We've seen a variety of different families in our church just greatly changed by the program and man. It's just his body in a whole new attitude. But one of the things going through it is that we're looking to borrow around $2.2 million to build a new sanctuary. Scripture says Borrow is slave to the lender. You're Dave repeats that often. And so I thought, Do you guys think it's hypocritical for a church who is practicing the principles of Financial peace university in their personal lives to go out and borrow money in a church setting? So before you answer that. As as somebody who used to meet with people behind closed doors right on hard conversations. You get a sense when somebody already has an answer in their heart as they're asking the question? You know your friend So, Andy, I feel really strongly that you have unanswered Yes. Walk us through where you are and how you got there. Okay, well, it's goes a little further than that, Even and so, Um recently. God's been doing great work and me just do this last year, and so The thought process is, is that number one? The answer should be. No, we shouldn't. We should practice what we preach. And if we tell you to do in your personal lives we should do in our church life. Secondly, the state Ellen always kind of different right now, and I don't wanna go too much into that. But one of the things that we just started in our churches to actually help families. The the educational institution. Illinois is not good. And so one of the reasons for starting Fbu was to help our families live within their means so they could help Ford Christian education. And so this year our church started to adopt this program where we will partner with the family for up to 50% of biblical education. And every one of our every one of our members just wrote that And so one of the thought processes is we would rather We would rather educate our Children than build a building. But at the same time we're literally had a room, right? And so It's one of these catch 20 twos, but you know, it's hard to go borrow $2.2 million. When you're telling your family's man live within your means going to biblical education and rice. Yes s so it's It's a difficult situation. So I've got a really strong, visceral reaction to this question for a couple different reasons, But I want to turn it over to the wiser. Calmer one of us first. What you think, Rachel I mean, you answered it. I mean, my my answer is going to be. It's consistent, so whether it's a busy someone's opening a business. I never tell them to take out a small business loan. For a church. It's the same way and what's difficult, though I understand it's the building constraints, but I'll tell you here, Ramsey. We were in a building about 10, Miles north of where we are right now, and we're outgrowing it. And it was like man, but there wasn't cashed their toe. Toe by something, and so we could have taken a loan out. Build something like this, You know, years and years ago. We rent it out as another space and we rented another space. We're in five different buildings, and it was so inconvenient. It was not fun. And we had like a little shuttle that went around and like, Oh, it was just it was it was not. It was not ideal. We move at the speed of cash around here, and we do that, because we really do believe that borrowers slave to the lender and you're at your whole paradigm shifts again, whether it's a church Whether it's a business what, whether it's your personal life When you owe someone money, the way you look at things, and so To be able to say, man, I we invested into this program with what you guys are doing. What? How creative and how amazing and fun of that education and just move at the speed of cash just save over time, and it's going to be uncomfortable. It's not gonna be fun, but also Cove it Hello. You know, I mean, you couldn't meet for for months. Probably. You know, so like it it really thank God for Cove it If you wouldn't borrow two point, totally helpless, familiar to 2.2 million. It could even use it. At that point, so that was that. Maybe God may have said is true right there for me, it Z that and I get real personal with it being Tell teenagers have told teenagers for years when they're whining about their parents. This and that my parents this and I always tell them if your parents are paying for that car they're paying for that fill in the blank. They get to speak into it. It's theirs right and Any time a church a business me When I hitched myself to somebody else they get to tell me what to do. That's just the rules. Right? And I think sometimes, um I find myself speaking out about It's not cause I hate institutions. I think institutions actually do wonderful stuff on broad big scales. But, man when I owe somebody They get to tell me what to do. And there's a lot of yelling and screaming these days and people don't they forget that man. I hitched myself to that wagon most most recently in my life. I haven't had a mortgage in a while, right? Got one recently and I'm having trouble sleeping because I am now in debt to the bank, right? And they get to tell me No, you're gonna keep going to work every day. You're going to keep fill in the blank, right? Right. And so I'm going to tell you I think a remarkable conversation for a leader in a church right now is to stand up and say is gonna be messy. We're gonna figure it out. We're going to the right thing, and we're not going to hitch our wagon to a state of bank of federal government or whatever. And it's not. Is it going to be inconvenient? Yep. We're gonna have to have 14 services and do all this weird, Whatever. Yep, right. Um, but I think it's the right thing to do. I'm just grateful for your heart. Absolutely. And I'll say this, too. As someone who attends a church when I know because our churches that free they paid off all of their buildings at about four years ago, it was incredible. And so now I know when I tied It's not going to Bank of America. You know, it's not going to an interest payment. It's Larry going to a single mom because with the whole car's mystery, and it's buying single mom, cars like that's like, that's what it's got, like It's going. It's going to my pastor right to help pay his daughter. What the church staff like I know where my money's going and as a as a someone who tides and gives, I'll tell you the heart of your congregation to have that conversation with John just said. Yeah. That builds trust. And honestly, I think that's a that's a beautiful conversation just to say it out loud. Yeah, I'm only putting 1 ft on the soapbox here because I get myself in trouble Jump. I wish every Every church in America any denomination? Would have a hard look in the mirror and say, how much money are we paying to the salaries of our local bankers? That could be going to feeding the kids in our communities that could be putting kids in schools that could be helping single moms?.

"He is the Messiah, The Lord Ruth Carter, Stapleton said. Christmas is the most truly is most truly Christmas when we celebrated by giving the light of love. Of those who need it. Most. Generosity takes a lot of forms. Today we've been taking calls from folks on the eve of Christmas Eve on our annual giving show. We're gonna take a couple more. Dr. John Bologna is my co host today. It takes a lot of forms. Sometimes it's just a smile. And sometimes it's just anatomy Boy and Atta girl. Um, sometimes it's My hardest one is not saying something, and sometimes that's really generous. I've benefited from that gifted or even not doing something just not responding, not responding and Is my tendency is to hit back. I Didn't grow up in a neighborhood where we were or passivity was taught. It was quite the opposite. So, but it's sometimes it's a generous act on act of great courage to not respond. And some of your in situations with family members this week where you need to not respond. You're out there and you're listening and you're going E. I love Christmas because the families around and by the way, the families around You know, we all have that right? Because if you think there's not crazy and your family, it probably means you family crazy. Every family is far the joy the holidays. So sometimes generosity is just You know, it's okay..

"It's just a hard time in our culture right now certainly in the United States and for that matter around the world so the first thing we wanna tell you this I'm old you can tell I've been there and we're GonNa get through this. You're okay going to work out. I was there when Y. Two K. Was going to end the world and it didn't and businesses went crazy and jobs were amiss and the economy was crazy and I was there after nine one one. Some of you weren't born yet understand but there was a time there that we really worried in America and we grabbed hands and we were unified but the stock market took us on a ride and the economy took us on a ride. I've been through a couple of flu. Breakouts of different names and people were scared. Nothing like this particular virus or scared. Everyone but I've watched a lot of people be sick. And it's it's a sad time in America in that regard went through two thousand seven two thousand and eight and I did one hundred seventy eight media hits and about seven days in those days because it was crazy and I was trying to tell people to calm down to not cash on everything and not abandoned. Hope because if you haven't noticed there is one thing more contagious than this virus. And it's fear it's airborne and people me you don't social distancing won't even help it's coming through your television screen. It's coming through. Your news feeds on your computer. It's coming from friends and relatives who normally were pretty level. Headed people better panicked right now or at least scared or at a minimum concerned. So just hear me loud and clear your okay. We're GONNA get through this twelve months from today. You can write it down right now and you can send me hate mail if you want if. I'm wrong but twelve months from today we're GONNA look back on this and go. Wow that was rough. We got through it the same thing. We said about those other calamities in crisis that I just outlined COUPLA principles that we're going to get into tonight number one is my friend. Art Laffer says no one makes good decisions when they're panicked or when they're drunk out some of your both some of your chosen one over the other. Some of you are just panicked or at just in a moment in time just in a five minute period of time you can become panicked and do something that takes years to get. Your family passed the mistake that you make while you're out of control. Your critical thinking skills. Just dissipate when you're panicked. You've got to calm down. Calm down our friend and other personality Dr John Bologna. He's a crisis counselor and he says when you're in a crisis facts are your friends facts or your friends and you have to control your input. What is coming into? Your brain is a continual news feed of fear. You watching the news channels. Twenty four seven. I gotTa tell you there's very few people have strong enough spiritual constitution to do that and not cave to the fear. I don't do that. I'm a part of that media. I'm on all the shows on all those stations. Those people are my friends that I I am not going to sit and feed my brain that all day long. My friends exemplary used to say when he was alive he said every morning i read the Bible and read the newspaper that way. I can tell what bowe shots are doing. So this is real. You got you have to control your inputs. And you have to have self control over your emotions when you're panicked. Some of you are You're just melting down. You've lose your ability to make good decisions other times. You're getting Maine and you're being nasty each other or your shaming people on your facebook page. Because they didn't do exactly what you thought they ought to do one way or the other but people that are normally nice people when they get in this funk emotionally or being very unkind some of. You've been unkind to your own family and you ought to be ashamed of yourself. So you've been unkind to someone in the drugstore because they walked across the Dadgum Blue Line and you lost. Your mind calmed down. We need a lot of generosity right now. The Bible says I'm a person of faith if you don't know in the Bible says Jeremiah. God says I've got a plan for you and it's not to bring you Har- it's to bring you hope. Hope IS GREATER THAN FEAR. But it's a choice and no one can take your hope and no one can steal your hope. You have to surrender it. That's what has to happen. Otherwise you're not there and Rachel we were talking about this idea of just having a little bit of grace in our lives and we were talking about what we're going to say tonight. Yeah Maher theme through tonight really about controlling the controllables and how key that is In this process and that includes your emotions and your grace for people Kristie Right. Here's another one of our Ramsey personalities. Were friends we're talking on the phone just last week when all this stuff was happening and she made a great point and she just had we just extend massive amounts of grace to people. Because you never know what someone else is dealing with right. Because I'm like there's the two extremes of how people are dealing with it it's either like this is all crazy. I'm going to do whatever I want. Or it's the ones that are all you know. They're they're freaked out to do anything and each side looks at each other and they just they they they spew shame and Hay and everything. And I'm like man you know no matter what side you're on look at the other side because both both need grace and I think that's really important to remember that with your friends. Your family It is a time just to say you know what they're handling things differently than I would But I'm going to just take a deep breath myself and extend that when we're talking about United Teaching Leadership. Sometimes we're in these different settings you know when people are under pressure. Sometimes it's just financial pressure. We're talking about sometimes. It's other things but when they're under pressure it's the the bad parts of their character revealed sometimes and sometimes the best parts of their character reveal and and you need to be real careful to control that. That's something you can control. Yeah I think you're speaking to influence here not just for leaders but for all of us that I love the point Rachel that you made about grace you know this is a time where in isolation when you are around just your friends and family That they're looking to you to see what your cues are. How are you handling all this uncertainty? How are you handling the bad news? You know matthew five fourteen Dave Rachel says you're the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Think that's a strong challenge to all of us to realize that in that verse. We realized that we have the opportunity in uncertainty. You could say dark times. We have the opportunity to be light as individuals as leaders. And we are all exposed in this. This is not a state crisis. This isn't a United States crisis. This is a global crisis and it is affecting everyone and each of us has a responsibility. David Rachel to realize that we are a city set on a hill in that we are doing life with some people closer than maybe we've been doing life with them in a long time due to this isolation and so it's really important as we get to this team tonight. What can you control? And we're GONNA talk through that tonight but really controlling Dave our response and there's going to be times where we all get squeezed and it reveals the ugly side of us and we all have the ugly side but we can choose this moment to say. Ooh I don't like that and I've got to change that because I am a light and I wanNA shine in uncertainty so I I think that's a wonderful challenge for all of us right
