"The Webb telescope's new pillars of creation picture is absolutely dazzling by Jeffrey kluger. Few people were paying much attention to the doings at the space telescope science institute on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore on April 1st, 1995. The big news that day included the end of Major League Baseball's 232 day player strike. The withdrawal of U.S. troops from Haiti after helping to support the embattled government of president John Bertrand aristide. And fresh testimony at the murder trial of one time football great O. J. Simpson, challenging his claimed whereabouts on the night his former wife and a friend of hers were killed. With all that, there was little room in the news for what astronomers Jeff Hester and Paul scowen of Arizona state university had just done, working with the STS CI. They had aimed the Hubble Space Telescope in the direction of the constellation serpents, 6500 light years from earth, and snapped a picture of a busy star forming region of the sky known as the eagle nebula. But hesters and scowls and Hubble's work would in the fullness of time far outlast the other news that broke on that spring morning 27 years ago, the picture they took promptly dubbed the pillars of creation easily became the Hubble's most iconic image. Indeed, it is one of the most iconic images in all of astronomy. Reproduced uncounted millions of times on posters, mugs, t-shirts, and more. It has pointed to as eye popping proof that when it comes to telescopes, the world of science and the world of art can sometimes be hard to distinguish. This week, the STS CI was back at work, releasing a newly taken image of the pillars of creation, this time captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, the $10 billion observatory, which was launched on Christmas Day 2021. And since July has been peering deep into the universe in a sky gazing campaign expected to last at least 20 years. Hubble's image of the pillars of creation was captured in visible light, while Webb's was taken in the infrared, revealing fresh details in the nebula that were seen less crisply before. The three signature pillars in the formation are dense clouds of gas and dust, which serve as a nursery for newly forming stars. The youngest of which are just a few hundreds of thousands of years old, compared to the estimated four and a half billion year age of earth, the tallest, and leftmost pillar stands an astounding four light years, or 24 trillion miles tall. As NASA explains in a statement accompanying the release of the image, the dust and gas is relatively cool, but heats up fast and isolated regions where the material begins to collapse together under gravitational attraction, forming the infant stars, those stars appear as scarlet dots and smudges within the body of the pillars. At the edges of the pillars, are undulating lines caused by jets of matter, fired out into space by the active new stars, those pulses of energy form the cosmic equivalent of bow shocks, similar to the waves produced by a boat as it plows through a body of water. Energetic hydrogen molecules excited by the waves cause these regions to glow red as well. NASA describes the new picture as lush and majestic. And it surely earns those adjectives, but it is something more too. It's a reminder that news may come and news may go, and events may unfold on earth in the eye blink speed of human lifespans. But deep in space, which those same perishable humans have taught themselves to observe with instruments crafted by ingenious minds and deft hands, is something closer to a lovely, eternity. Sport looks seeing people compete in come and visit the region to have a passion more and I think it's a key economic driver and also it helps create a healthy community. And you are a an AFL tragic as I've had as I did a little bit tragic, but it's been 8 years that I think or something since more and more since my mom's 1 a.m. a premiership for America. And I still went ahead and butcher shop every Saturday I used to play a grand final. The same game every week and more I take almost one, so anyone who come to come on the quality weight so that come and say, hey, we're looking at it, we're not going to go to the moment but I think we're going to come back. So they supported the move for and then we started to put a bit of a community together and it ended up being called Sal Harvey by the I class I kept worlds in 2018 so I was basically two and a bit weak event that had some of the greatest silence who ever saw a catamaran into that in Australia and the world come and silent hobby by. So we had a 117 boats in showed up and we had teams from America from Europe, New Zealand. And all over the place and some really, really good people who loved coming to visit our region. So part of that was a big continue to K waves and they're great really good people and I've made life of friends and they just were amazing people. The K waves were turned up and mass is a bit of a story about a field that contained his company and have insane struggles to kid. I mean, and the container was one of them. Three of the kiwis player took Pete burling in Glen ashby, who's an Australian and they were all involved in the Emirates team New Zealand. So that was the brine stressed. So those guys came and this was a part of their lead up to that. So to say you have a high functioning team works just fascinated me that these guys were just so dedicated. And all the sailors to make clan ashby, he's like the Maradona, I guess it's just a really, really nice block. And they're all these fellows are all good blacks had many Olympians with us and world champions, but all really, really good guys. And to say that preparing for this will for the little America's cup sorry. Only spoiling bites at a 70 foot long and I guess guy flying along and just absolutely amazing to see, but the catamarans of iodine foot long and I foil. And laying technology. So these things are like the formula ones obviously. And these guys were reshaping foils and playing with their sails and just so focused on the pro. So Glenn, I should be one. He didn't have to sell the last day to win but he still sailed. And just saying that these guys interact with the other side was going to come over Joshua McCormack, he was a photographer drove the chase boat, and it was a team effort on these cars. To watch how they went about it and the meticulous planning just made me really interested in what happens with the America's cup. So I used to sell and just fascinated while the technology in it. So to see these guys plan it out and how unfolded in their grandfather was just amazing and having the seeds of that in Harvey bait. You know, that were there with their team, and off I went, but it's really interesting the America's cup, especially Emirates, so they have a theory a couple of years ago a couple of challenges ago that ran out of money. It won't stop had to bring their own lunch. To the head office. And they rotate their team, yeah. So there's a really good book called legacy. And when we had those guys here, sailing Glen ashby is just the best boatman going around. There was some amazing footage and great pictures of these guys with all of the guys just on the foiling and these bites are pop up and shade across the border. The technology involved to do that. And as I said, they bring these on teams in the young design tinker and tinker. These birds have basically the roll cages that are formerly ones in them, they're down that fast, they're safety conscious. It's really interesting, but the technology in those bites was amazing. So that i would think would get your attention to. But there's a lot of data to digest. And i believe is an american. You get to digest the data and come to the conclusion. You wanna come to you. Shouldn't be ostracized. If the conclusion you reach doesn't comport with the cdc but again i'm back to the political aspect of this because byron york mollie. And so that's the reason why they're urging those Who haven't been vaccinated to go out and get one of the three vaccines that have been approved by the FDA. So bottom line. Is it legal for in mandate to be issued is a constitutional Is it precedented? Is it legal? Well, it hasn't been challenged. I don't think it will be tested for that matter. Ok, Rick, I I I think that you know, the administration recognizes it may or may not be within the realm of the power of the president. But that's not something that President Biden wants to pursue. Look at the initiatives that we're doing here if we're take more constantly taking money away from those funds and the problem is that they're trying to balance that on the backs of the teachers while the problem i have with that. Is these teachers. That are now in their fifties. Okay agreed to defer compensation because of their retirement package because of their benefits package. They agreed to this work so that they would have that for themselves and ripping that a winning from them when they're ultimately two years to their retirement is not acceptable. So we we can do. Both we can honestly do both these things. We can have green schools that were reinvesting but we got lafayette high. And you will mmediately beat the most embarrassed person for any of the kids that have to call that their school it is falling down around the ankles of the kids that are going into every day in. We should all be appalled at that so we have to do better. But we have to have these honest dialogues. We have to go out there and have conversations with community and we got to get people to place where we can realize. We gotta be investing in our kids. How do you connect people in kobe. All their tax money doesn't go to what it says. It's four because that's a lot of people that i know were conservative data down for all taxes. Because they're like well they stakes for this. There's gotta be accountability on these individuals that are in office that are reshuffling these these monies being able to run everything through the general fund is not acceptable.
