"There. You you're such a big sports fan. What do you think about the bubble that the NBA is in now? It has been remarkable. You're here to see, you know, looking at baseball this camp, but the bubble with the NBA and when the Commissioners done has been outstanding, it's impressive. It shows you, you know, it's such an example of Public Health is it shows what you can do if if when you isolate and also if you test them just test the heck out of people, you know, it can be controlled the Divide. This virus can be controlled if you take it seriously and handle it in the right way. It should be a mystery that the NBA's be able to do this because they've been isolating people and testing the heck out of people and I give the players that seems a lot of credit for being willing to do this but it's it's you know, it's their humans, you know, they want to be with their families. They want to have a life. I've had chance I correspond every once awhile with enes Kanter. Yeah, and he'll see he's like man 50 days. It's a long It's a long time and he's a big guy in a tiny room. But I think it's inspiring that they're doing this and you know, I know it's their job and they're getting paid and it's a game but so what else is a job and they have families and they have lives and it's it's in plus not to mention with all the racial stuff happening in the country, which they had their deeply invested in law passed and passionately personally invested it. I know it's hard to be cut off from all that did you ever think that players would be dis invested in anything because you look at them from time to time see more angles said to LeBron James shut up and dribble. Now, you see all these players with a passionate rage for what is going on. I'm glad they oh, I think I think that there's a platform that to use and I'm glad to see the players are using it. I know, you I'm a student of History. So you are also I know it was before my time, but obviously in the six months The early seventies. I know that was something that was a big part of sports. Obviously Muhammad Ali Bill Russell, you know, the the 68 Olympics there are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar politics in sports for a long time. We're Muhammad Ali. Yep, very intertwined absolutely intertwining them. And then I think it was there a period where they were more separate for a while now, they're back together again, and I think it's good. I think that it's very good. It's understandable to write. I mean if in a league that is obviously the vast majority of young African-American men when you're having a social moment in our country that disproportionately impacts young African-American men. It's not removed. This isn't an abstract is not an abstraction to these players in any way that this is something that's very real. Say on the username and then I want you to go with this doctor pauchi. Dr. Anthony falchi is a guy who is just deeply committed to science and medicine who I don't think has ever claimed to be perfect with the most interesting. Of doctor found his life isn't necessarily even coronavirus. Although obviously, it's fascinating. It's AIDS. It's what he did to fight AIDS and how he's in a way learned over time and worked with largely the gay community to understand what they were feeling and helped make the science more accessible to them and work to save lives in the battle against AIDS and that was a remarkable Journey. He was he vilified at the beginning. Yeah of a struggle by the gay community and Lord and now bluffed and that's a long way to go with coronavirus in Anthony. Bauchi. All he wants only once is to save lives. All he wants is to beat this thing and I don't think he ever imagine In a universe where he would ever be when what he was doing would be seen as political and I think he's just confused Kamala Harris. You've had a chance to interview her some during during the primaries and What what interests me most about Kamala Harris is her background right growing up with a Jamaican father in an Indian mother in Berkeley, right or an office, you know with all that stuff going on around you how that forms you and how that you know, that that was funny to me and I mean to cut you off but it was funny to me when somebody from Fox Said Indian and they were like, she's Indian like like she's American Indian. Oh, she's not American Indian. That's not it. I mean and she's gotten her her mother is Indian and she is dead grandparents in your family in India that she grew up. You know, she used to go to travel India as a child growing up and that's a very much a part of her life. I think that's the American story in a way, you know people one of the things off when people do judge was running for president people would joke, you know, well, why can't we just have an easy name like Smith? I'm like well, wait a sec. I mean you guys are all laughing and making a game. Get out of this, but it's American. I mean the most American thing in the world is to have messed up things. That's what we are. Right. I mean, want names like buttigieg. I want, you know, the vast panoply of the world coming into the United States and you know that that's who we are. So I think it's inspiring independent of the policy. I think it's inspiring to see the changing face off of representation. Yeah. I've I did something you'd love this. I want to say was the Democratic National Convention when it was in Boston. I am there and I'm going through all the little people speaking to me Max. How are you doing? And you know, I'm just having a good time. Well probably about maybe about fifteen minutes of being there all of a sudden I get off. I want to go home I go home and then I hear about a guy who just spoke and it was Barack Obama. I walked out on his speech. I can't believe that that's dead. Crazy, that's crazy. But yeah, I mean 2004 in Boston that was a time and that was a speech to launch a career guy's guy was a state senator, you know, just to state senator at that point and then four years later he's president. Give me and I'm going I'm wrapping it up here, but can you give me Five people that you've been so impressed with because sometimes I'm just shocked when I meet somebody I'm like, oh my God, I want to meet Barack Obama never have but you know, it's just do you mean by because you're in the news all the time and you see people all the time five is it hard? Well, first of all you I mean Cedric Maxwell look, I promise. I'll answer the question but I can't tell you how cool it was when you reached out to be like separate Maxwell's reaching out to me the coolest thing ever. You have to appreciate that. This is you know, the formative years of my life you were I remember where I was for the 81 finals. I remember where I was when you proved the team on your back in the eighty four finals, you know, this stuff. Is not this stuff is like such a part of my life and then to have you reach out to me like wait a second. How is this working? This is the way it's supposed to be. Okay that side Stephen Stephen Sondheim. It it seems Sondheim is a great broadway, right? He composes any rights lyrics to some of the great musicals of all time. I had the opportunity to interview age and go to his home. He's one of the great Lyricist ever with the lyrics are West Side Story and Gypsy in the music and lyrics a Sunday in the park with George and Suites Hot and he you know, it's like you're meeting with mine Stein. It's it's the guy it's it's there's no one better added and no one has ever has been better at it than him. See I got to go his house and a lot of times you meet people and they don't necessarily measure up to your view of what they would be or they're not night..

"It. If you can make it through that you can sort of make it through anything and that that, be down what was just you know be a war correspondent, which I was for a little while there are different kind. There two different kinds there. There are people who I think get a rush out of it and for them. It's almost like a drug. I'm not saying an illicit drug, but you know they get that kind of charge out of it. And then there are people who scared by it. And I'm in the second category. I mean get when people are shooting at me or near me. I it scares me off but I think that's okay too. I think both kinds of reporters are important to have I really do I think that both perspectives on the gung-ho and then also the more realistic hey, wait a second, you know, it's not so great that there's people fighting everywhere. Do you have do you have other Heroes that you look up to? Like my my favorite personal news forever was Walter Cronkite cuz off the crankcase spoke man. I was like it must be true. Now, it just seems like everybody is so, you know different and I can't believe it tell me the difference between off CNN and fox well. Fox has an agenda fox has energetic boxes clearly the network of the right and they are going on to promote one point of view. I think CNN is not CNN is going on to report the truth and Report the news just tell you the news. in this moment that we're in What complicates things is that? You have an Administration that is less Tethered to the truth than any before that says things that are not true more than the Administration has before I'm not saying that other administrations haven't lied in our job is to you know is to speak now this when you do that line with me, but you say it I love how you you said that said wage like you said and then you'll come across with about five or six different quotes which to me is absolutely amazing backs up everything you're saying he's going to go just to the research. I mean people people need to be accountable for their own work and I you know, I try every time I'm going to interview know what someone has said and to have the facts to back it up in terms of what CNN is though now because you have an Administration that just objectively says things that are untrue more than any others it it I think it can look to a view or like we do have an agenda what we do our agenda is the truth that that's the agenda is dead. Frisch's on Colonel Bernstein the gray Watergate journalist. That was when he says is that journalism is the best obtainable version of the truth the best obtainable version of the truth. That's what we should strive to be. We should always strive to get the as close to the pure truth as we can and it's imperfect sometimes we thought we missed or were you only get part of it, but we try to get as much of it as we can quickly as we can. That's a better line. A g today and take advantage of all the great sign-up bonuses. Don't miss don't miss out on this one is your chance Cedric Maxwell says go absolutely betonline.ag your online sportsbooks experts. Yeah. They now make sure you use the offer on this 50 the hardest question. I asked you today is tell me what you like that Donald Trump has done during this Administration. so try to find a way answer this diplomatically because it's not my job. This is my podcast. I don't care. You can answer the way I'm going to be here. Let me let me I'm gonna start this is a preamble. I would that question would be hard to answer for me. No matter who's President, right? It's not for me to like or not like what a president of any party does. So I'm trying to think what I think Donald Trump has done that is unique or something unique to him that I think has been positive in a way for them. I think that that there has been there are people in this country who feel as if they have been left behind by different things that have happened in the country largely manufacturing and trade issues that had become more globalized in the world has passed them on and I think that there has been an attitude there was an attitude among Republicans the Democrats. Well, you know what the world is changed you've got to change with it and I think that the parties were not speaking to these people in a way that they could relate to and I think don't Donald Trump has spoken to them in a way that they can relate to and I think that that's a positive thing. I think understanding that there are people who feel as if that this country has not been working for them is a positive thing one other thing that he's done inadvertently that I think is important is that you know, our country is governed. That's a small G by laws and Norms there are laws which dictate how things are supposed to happen and turns out that a lot of the way that America has been working for two hundred and whatever years is not by law. It's by Norm. It's by tradition and what Donald Trump is just said, you know what it was not a lost screw it I'm going to break if it's just a norm if you're going to tell me that it's only because it's a norm that I should or shouldn't do this. I don't care.

"Wow, and so they rolled over the border into it a town called North Korea and there was a very Fierce firefight there would also was pouring rain which isn't supposed to happen in the desert here. And so we pulled in the Marines pulled into Nazareth at night. There was all kinds of shooting everyone had to dig in your digging trenches. That's what war war is it, you know for a million years war has been digging trenches and you know, the Marines weren't going to dig my trash, you know, the rep had to fight so my producer and I were sitting there with our shovels digging as you see these Tracer bullets flying overhead and it's pouring rain and you know, I get into this little trench that I did and there's this month Water and it's nighttime and I'm just like where the where am I how did I get here? And at night you talk about Peter Jennings that night off. I couldn't we get the picture out. But I called in we had the satellite phones. I called in to the broadcast that I remember Peter talking to me live on the air and he was such a mentioned so good at this. I think he could tell in my voice that I was terrified and he's like just tell us what you're seeing just walk us through what you're seeing and it just calm me down and it got me in a place to explain what was going on in front of me off like the next morning. I remember waking up with mud caked all over me going to the command. When were you actually went to sleep? I didn't know I saved a cup whatever happened by the end of day the sun came up. I don't know if I had slept or not. It's just there's only so much that you can't do anything. I mean, there's stuff flying over your head. All you can do is try to get a picture wage. And and you know, you're on the phone and that's the whole thing. The sun comes up the shooting dies down. I go to the command post and I walk in and I remember it was like a lieutenant colonel and major in a cup captains and they all look at me and they say so when you think like how does how was some night and then one of them says, you know, we were all taking bets about whether you'd make it. I'm think what's what do you think I was going to go and they all laughed and then they said something to me that was to me was super nice. They basically said it does get worse than that. They said, you know what you made it through that's the worst of it. If you can make it through that you can sort of make it through anything and that that, be down what was just you know be a war correspondent, which I was for a little while there are different kind. "I got I a twelve-year-old John who was at the game. I can't believe that I'm thinking like are you serious? That hat you had was crazy man. I brought it right here. I was showing my gosh. So I think it's 82, you know, these painter has I know if you're like in the earliest I paid or have to remember those. Well, I remember him so long so it's got its got tiny on it which means it's not eating for yeah, that would be one but you were being that it's got Danny so I think it's 82 age. Yeah, you've been ten years. I was yeah, I'm forty Forty-Eight. I was born in seventy-two so I would have been nine or ten. I mean right now we're just going to talk about them. Go ahead and explain to me what you're talking about with the Celtics. So I you know, I grew up in Carlisle, Massachusetts. I was a huge sports fan huge and if you were so long It was when the Red Sox lost to the Yankees and the in bucket at home run game, but after 78, no one was good, except the Celtics if you were a sports fan in Boston in the early eighties, it was you guys and nothing else and you guys provide a big time. So I was a huge Celtics fan huge. I mean, remember sort of remember the 29 wind team. So I remember which I guess was your second here. Yeah. Those are my second year. So I remember that because everyone knew that Larry was coming during that time. So everyone was sort of exciting but the next year and then the next you know Birds rookie season was huge and everyone was just a hundred percent All In Our member of going to a game of the garden seen Pete Maravich that they years. Yeah, and you know, and then the next year you guys won the championship and it was just everything and you know, why the clock radio the kind that had the the sleeper timer on it, so I would go to bed at a job. Nine and listen to Johnny most do the play-by-play and I'm having a timer so that it would turn off after I you know, I'd fall asleep probably the third quarter, but it was great everybody. I want you to help me welcome John Burman the end with me. I mean, this is one of my favorite guys and CNN. I've loved you. I mean hit you off the top with a couple of good things because you're such a big sports fan. Give me an agent Rich more Sports. Meaning players your Mount Rushmore Sports. If you were building something your backyard you had four people you can put on Mount Rushmore and then and you can't be wrong. This is your contract Motorsports. All right, I'll do my Mount Rushmore of all Boston players baseball is Kevin Youkilis off cuz I well damn I want to Mount Rushmore and so okay. I'll do I'll do my one honest Mount Rushmore and then I'll give you a backup. It doesn't have to be a Boston Sports Just Sports. Then you have to understand there's a Boston sports but not like there's not any other sports. Okay, I get it when I talk to you when I when I see you on are in Boston plays any teams. You just go off. Well, Boston Boston Boston, so give me your four. Oh, yeah. It's not an act just so you know, it's not an act. It's a real deal. So useless because you know, it was during that stretch for the Red Sox started winning World Series game. And I thought he was such an interesting character and a grinder and I almost got thrown out of eight. Well, that's not true. I did get thrown at Yankee Stadium because he got hit with a picture. I can remember who threw at him but someone threw at him and then I spoke up and then a guy tried to start fight with me and I was the one to get escorted out. So you closest I'll go Brady which is boring but it's just if you're a Patriots fan, it's got a to be Brady and then you know for the Celtics it was it was Mikhail. It was Kevin McHale. I was just I was I'm not a tall guy in 5-10, which is a very tall but I was five ten and eighth grade. So I was a very tall eighth grader. And so I played center on my eighth grade basketball team and I thought had all these thoughts post moves out all this thing, you know the stuff that they Kevin McHale can do and so it was him and then I had a great big poster of him in my room and I have to add a fourth month. Hagler wow Marvelous Marvin, so, you know, that's an all Boston Sports Mount Rushmore. If I were doing a second round, it would be I would have Rick Burleson. I love the rooster. Yeah. I put Jim I put Jim Rice and Rick Burleson. I had to Red Sox on it were my second Celtics player. You know, it's a hard one. That's a hard one. Let me a whole Patriots it would be. You know someone on defense, I don't know Willie McGinest the events cuz a winner and then then if I were going for another Celtics and go I Paul Peirce boring Paul Peirce, but just for you know, such a long time and and you know, I mean, mean you couldn't go wrong. So I love that. I'll ask you one of those other questions we talking about sports related. Now if you can pick between Marcus Smart and then it's Johnson, who do you take? Oh see. I know I know this is personal for you. I don't think you have to choose. I think you could say that they're they both represent Brilliance, you know, the defense both play. I don't remember and you have to tell me I mean Marcus Smart guards centers. Yeah. Yeah, sometimes I don't remember doing that. Although I know that he was brought to the team largely the Gap Johnson who wasn't a center but he was six nine. So it's not guarding a center per se but DJ had to guard big markets more but he does defensively I just don't think I've ever seen.

Polls show Americans remain divided over impeachment
"A slew of pulse that came out in the last twenty four hours A Fox News poll a marist poll. CBS poll they all tell the same story on impeachment. which is that The country is divided but that nearly half the country is in favor of the impeachment and removal from office of Donald Trump. And I am wondering as we now record this little more than forty eight hours before the vote is this pressure even with the knowledge allege that his acquittal in the Senate is short is this pressure of impeachment and that nearly half the countries in favor of it is getting to the president all in your coverage of him. We know our reporting shows that president trump has been frustrated by the fact that he's going to be impeached as much because he's doesn't doesn't want this to be a stain on his legacy ready doesn't want to be associated in the anals of history with the previous presidents who have been impeached and so that weighs on him but he's also really really frustrated and that's why we know that behind the scenes. He's been pushing for the theatrics of a televised trial in the Senate where he could have his handpicked. Witnesses called so so even though Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell's being accused of bias toward the White House. And you and Zach got into this a little bit. He's actually advocating for something that's totally different from. What president trump has has pushed for behind closed doors and that's to have have his metaphorical day in court in the Senate and and he is eager to just get this over with this House vote? It's sort of a foregone conclusion at this point of course with that House vote comes that stain for history That he will be impeached president. The one that you says Gets under his skin Somewhat but to your point about what the president may want in a trial in the Senate. I want you to hear our colleague. John Berman this morning on a new day with Senator Schumer the minority leader the Democratic leader in the Senate. Listen and tell me if you think Schumer might be open. I've been here to some negotiation where some of Donald Trump's hoped for witnesses would be part of the deal perhaps show up as part of a trial. Here's Schumer and our colleague. I'm John Berman. If president trump is so certain that he did nothing wrong. Why is he what is he afraid of? What is he hiding when he says Mulvaney or Bolton or the other two witnesses shouldn't testify he hasn't given a single answer other than to tweet show trial and all this that doesn't answer the fact? If if the testimony from these four individuals is so important to you and if you're confident that Hunter Biden doesn't have any high. Why not make that trade if you WANNA get these four guys in the only way? They're they hunter Biden. Why not make that? I hope they won't. I don't think they should. I think they know that the American people would see that as a total political distraction. You think president trump would take that deal sir. You know the White House so far has been so reluctant to participate at all in the process in the house even though they've been given opportunities by the House Judiciary Committee because they did not want to lend an air of legitimacy to the proceedings by making these witnesses available. That's going to be harder to to do in the Senate when regardless of what happens with the trial White House counsel Pat Sip. Baloney is going to have to participate so once they sort of open that door to having having White House officials appearing before the committee that might change the calculation a little bit because they can no longer avoid having to engage with the impeachment proceedings. That being said. It's hard to see the White House making those senior officials available without a court order And and that could take weeks that could to trump's way of thinking prolong this process. Give his surrogates more time to be on. TV defending him. Give the White House more time to try to turn the tide of public opinion which they're clearly trying trying to do right now and And so this could really drag out the process. If this is going to be litigated in court

Nothing happens and I'm like what the Hell is this about so we go down to another beach nothing nothing nothing so. It sounds like you're disappointed like it's not doing the job. It's doing the job but I fought for by now some guy at falling off the pier. Something did get a call from you know those guys over at at Brownsville station which is at Bar Newport beach. All those guys are full of crap. What do they say they should? I push off a pier and then somebody ran up with a camera. I never did anything other sort of it. Well keep repeating that bud. I will see you off so that didn't happen. They said that I went up onto the pier and shoved a guy off the pier and then <hes> rusty comes over the cameras tall shooting. "Was from Panama City beach, my colleague, John Berman, they're giving that report actually texted with a couple of my colleagues down there covering this for TV. And they said that this the win is something that they have not experienced and covering other hurricanes just something they have not experienced before saying that's the win is incredible. Lots of debris, lots of roofs that have been taken off of homes and buildings. Lots of storm damage in that Panama City area there as hurricane Michael coming through lots of cars that have been flipped it as well. And it is going to be a significant financial toll on the state of Texas moving into Georgia as well. We got a lot more on this. We'll keep you updated get you. Some more information from the Hurricane Center that coming up on the Ben Ferguson show five three five nine seven three two one eight hundred four seven four nine seven three two. It's been Ferguson show six hundred W R, E C and ninety two point one FM. If you need a new roof or a roof repaired, there's a lot of companies that you can call and a lot of them will give you great prices. The real question is do they actually have insurance? Are they license? Many companies are say, oh, yeah. We got everything, but a lot of times they don't have their insurance. And that is how they're able to save serious cash and beat other bids they roll the dice. Now. Someone gets hurt while there. Working on your roof. It comes back on you the homeowner. You don't want to have to deal with that. So when you hire.

"Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico. Now, the news media's yelling at him this morning. They did these people did not tell of old age, Mr President. Well, actually, they are counting people that died of old age over the course of six months on a population base. The size of Puerto Rico's. Certain people are going to die of effectively. What is what is old age, whatever that means because it's not an actual cause of death. But you know, what he's talking about what everybody's talking about here. And the president is right, and it's infuriating the news media because they're unhinged and they're mentally ill. And they're so hell bent on this jihad because Hilary lost where where is Hillary? Anyway, what does Hillary doing, you know, Michelle Obama's may share her? She's got a book coming out. And it's like you to she's going on tour. She's doing stadiums. She's doing the phone booth in Washington, right? What is the Verizon or MCI whatever the places called now? We just call it the phone booth because they kept changing phone companies that sponsor, but she is Michelle Obama, I'll get to that. I'll get to that in a couple of minutes and the Peter Peter stroke stuff. But right now, let's go to some audio. What do you say, Michael peercy? Let's go to let's go to let's go to sound byte number one. Let's start at the beginning today. Something we don't normally do we'll start at the beginning. John Berman is a democrat. He's employed by CNN. They sent him down to the beach in North Carolina and South Carolina this morning, and it looked like a wispy little fella standing out there on the beach. It was calm look beautiful. You go swimming. You'd bring chairs down yet hang out. But there is a big storm coming and and now now listen, I actually went and did some research on this sound bite here. He is John Berman was talking to now congressman Mark Sanford from North Carolina, the former governor of North Carolina. And now, he's a member of the house representatives from member Appalachian trail and all that stuff. And now, he's a member of the house, and they had him on the television. Here is in a box over there. John Berman was in a little tiny box over here. And then they had a big box, and they had the ocean, you could see a picture of the ocean. And and it was very, very frightening. And and John Berman then lied in his question. Now, I gotta tell ya head of time before the question because I went day before yesterday at the White House President Trump was asked by a reporter about the response to Puerto Rico and hurricane Maria. And and he was asked a question. I went to the transcript from the White House website in the press office just to make sure that I was right about this. Because I knew I was and I knew that John Berman was lying little Deeb. And and so I went and looked it up just to confirm it. And then and then we pulled December is talking to congressman Mark Sanford, and listen to the way, he phrases the question, he takes what would be a perfectly mundane politically stacked question, and he turns it into a law. Why as the government is preparing for this President Trump felt the need to talk about the Puerto Rico felt a needs. A he called it. An unsung success story in underappreciated with no mention of the now three thousand people we know died as a result of that storm the threes to that what's your reaction to that the three thousand people that we now know that we now know died. Based on a study that they were so eager to take in as truth that they don't care. It's it's it's one of the jokes and journalists most too good to check out. So they just they didn't check it out. But he said that the president felt the need to talk about now. That's that makes them flip and liar. That makes a lion second. Julia..
