The market reaction to Tuesday's CPI data shows investors realize that inflation is likely to remain higher for longer. Former IMF chief economist Ken rogoff told us that part of the fed's problem is the 2% inflation target. Back in the day, they should have sat 3% instead of 2%. But they didn't. And they've really made commitments. If you change it, it means you might change it again. So I think what, in fact, will happen. I don't think we're going to have a soft landing, by the way. I think we're going to have soft, but not the landing. I think inflation, they're going to allow to be all right. For longer, but they're going to say it's going to get back to 2%. We're just taking longer. I think that's going to be the rhetoric. Rogoff added that the fed will have to figure out where rates need to be longer term so that inflation does not remain a problem. Dallas fed chief Lori Logan said, more rate hikes may be needed. And the fed should not lock in a peak interest rate or a precise path of rates. We also heard from Richmond fed president Thomas barkin. We may or may not choose to take rates up further if inflation continues to persist. But we'll have to see what happens. If inflation settles, maybe we don't go quite as far. But if inflation persists at levels well above our target, maybe we'll have to do more. Meantime, fed Philly bank president Patrick harker said that the fed was nearing the point where rates were restrictive enough. He said, we're not done yet, but we are likely close. It has been one of the things is we've been very happy to add three new board members we've now set last week. I would put us probably in terms of the dill industry companies with the strongest board. I don't know anybody that has more Della experience on their board than we do. And so one day we started a couple years ago. "We call it the first generation Laser Zamboni. That's what it looks like. I mean, Yeah, it fixes your teeth and cleans the ice. I mean, it was like that. But you have to dial everything in over the last 5 to 7 years. We've now perfected that user interface where it's point and click. You don't you don't like popcorn, and it knows it's popcorn. Hit a button. Right? So, you know, think about period disease. And this one thing that resonated with me because I went when I was a kid. My dad had gun surgery period on Titus. The gun surgery. My dad never went to. The doctor never complained about anything that set him back for, like weeks. That was one of the most painful things he said he had ever been through. Okay, so that's the old way of doing that. Compare that to a laser that goes subjectively noninvasive. Absolutely is under the guns, right? You don't have to cut the golden guns open and it creates just as good of outcome Clinically. What they're doing is they're just taking all the credit for people who maybe not have been in business for a few years. Exactly in the late young disease creates heart disease, so much other stuff. It's systemic, right? Yeah. Black And and the laser. Not only does it clean everything out, but it also has, um you know, Antibacterial. Um, um, aspects to it as well. So it just makes it that much cleaner. You look at at implants. Help every I don't think there's a fast, faster growing segment of demonstrate an implant right there. My skin one, right? Need one now. Okay. Now he's talking about like the new grill. Yeah, yeah, the new smiles. He's talking about you in one day, right? And you look like you know Freddy from Kruger. And then you come out and you look like a three d privilege game show host. But here's the deal. 20% of implants fell in the first two years. How come Um, either want put in right genetics or there's or there's a gingivitis. Um, it could be the property of the actual implant, maybe for materials. So the old wife, Okay, Pre Lazer is you take the implant out. You re grow the bone. You go back in the year. Pay another three or $4000. Probably another dentist. Because you're not going to the same one again because you're mad at him and get the implant. Put back in. All right. So we are the only company that has a patented side firing tip the side firing tip goes 90 degrees once again, subjectively In between the gums it can clean like a power washer. The screw that the implant, you know, is that shit? Makes it pristine and basically saves him plan regrow some bone around it. Yeah, that's exactly his name is John Beaver. He's the president and CEO of Viola's Incorporated B I. O. L is their stock symbol and, of course, their website by always when you come back with on a regular basis, I would love because I'm telling you what this is really interesting. Bring an implant to well, no, I mean, because look at this is one of those things that we're all going to have to go through. And I mean, you're all going to the dentist? Yeah, And if there's any new technology because, as he mentioned.

You tell us about your film Film stupid. The movie being produced here locally in Santiago. New movie Coming up. Tell us about your new film. Yes, I'm a vice principal of a high school and I get kind of mad at the young man who stole my son's girlfriend away. Oh, I see. So it's kind of it's kind of a slice out of real life. It's kind of I have a very small part very important Emmy Award winning Rusty now. Thank you. Are you up for now? Is this going to be like? Will this be a motion picture like in a movie theater? I could go Snapple. It's like this Annapolis where you can boost You can. What happened? Just take asleep halfway through exactly. Let's be one of those type boots. I'm not sure I know. It goes a film festival and probably just gonna be like this. Yeah, maybe. Hey, listen, one of the greatest things about this program. We say this all the time. We have 25 guest spots to fill every week, and it's usually authors and celebrities and everything else. But every once in a while we get to talk to a publicly traded company because our viewers usually send emails to our producers and one such company that we were told to that we must interview is a company called Bio lays. John Beaver is the president and CEO of the company. They are publicly traded under the stocks that will be I o l they, of course, have a website bio lays dot com That's LSE. But look who's in studio because we're so very important and we're very famous. John Bieber came to us How you like that? I'm going to see you. Good morning. So here's my problem or dental laser. So let me just give you in advance here. Every time we have a guest on it can do something for us. He's going to try to work here for so I'll say Hey, look, I Gottemoeller here. Can you take a look? If you're an attorney, he'd have a problem. You have questions Just Hypothetically, you're going through a divorce. I mean, we're always looking for experimental cases. So that be yes, Dante. Okay, so talk about this because I did some diligence on you guys. And you guys are creating sort of a A, uh, tip of the spear in new dental technology. And by the way, guess who has a dentist appointment today? You have a cleaning? I go every three months. I enjoy it to 30. Do they have a laser? I don't know whether you wanna be lazy. That's right. That's right. Find that out. What are they lazing? Does it hurt to talk to us about this ballets is the world's leading dental laser company. And you know what? Our dental lasers I like to think of it as lasers can do just about everything right? We have heart tissue lasers that cut both bone and teeth with soft tissue lasers that cut Soft tissue. Obviously, we also have some other soft, all tissue lasers that cut both bone and soft tissue. So if you look at the body lasers have taken over the standard of care everywhere in the body, right? No, it's true. One of the examples I give his Lasix Yeah. Yes, well, probably the same generation or close to it. Remember when people were getting corrective vision surgery early on, somebody had a scalpel. They were cutting their I would you today with Lasix. Go try to find that doctor that was cutting your eye with the scalpel. I call that's that's analog in a digital world. Absolutely. So Lasix took over standard of care for corrective vision surgery. It probably took him 20 years to do that. Um, So if you look at the whole body of the mouth is the last part of the body. The lasers haven't taken over a standard of care, And that's what we're planning and and talk about that because there's a couple things here. There's dental laser. There's also hygiene here. There's cleaning as well. Yeah, absolutely. The main tip of the tip of the spear here, So you know one of the difficulties I think ourselves guys have is we do so much. We're Swiss Army knife with our tool. Right. So I could talk about 80 FDA cleared indications that we have, but let's talk about three or four. Okay, Drilling whitening and okay to would we do that? Okay, Let's say let's take the drawing, for instance, because this is one. I'm a non technical guy didn't come from the dental industry didn't come for the laser industry, which is historian of itself. Yeah, that's that's a whole different story. But, you know, we look at taking your kids or grandkids to the dentist. You know you have that fear of the dentist, right? Because we all grew up with the shot The drill vibration what causes pain in the mouth when you're getting a cavity filled its vibration and heat. Laser does neither one. So we have a ton of Dennis that have, um, never given a kid a shot for filling And by the way, that's a cue selling proposition. I mean, look at Dennis, Sir, in the business of making money, Okay, I know they want to fix you. This just happens to be there. Uh, you know, finding even fill it Well, people need help with their teeth. That's a big selling process. Why would not every single dentist in the world have this technology? That is the question I had when I joined the company, and I believe that they will have this technology is just a matter of time. Talk about. So you guys are the world's leading dental laser in both the US and other countries. Talk about what's your main seller? Is it the Is it the soft tissue where there Doing surgery or this look soft tissue work right here If I'm not. Yeah, what's going on there? So for the for the all tissue, which is all water laced brand about seven or 8% of dentists in the U. S have a laser Had the animal tissue laser less than 2% Worldwide. The good news for us is are the ones that have an all tissue laser 60% have hours so once again later in the day ministry we've sold over 40,000 lasers. You know, this is well known. He's a multipurpose. Does that mean on the other end? You can just dial in all this, you know? They do some woodworking? Yeah, answer the logo. I'll wait for doing the tattoo while you're sleeping for dental. But, yeah, that's one of the things that I think has taken so long to get this technology adopted early on you, basically as a dentist had to have a physics degree to work. One of these things I've seen..

"It does, yes, because there's a kind of a controversy about who was the first person to put the ground beef Patty on a bun. But one of my favorites is Charlie The green from Seymour, Wisconsin. One reason he is my favorite because he was only 15 years old, and he was Selling food at a that again, the county fair and he ran out of sausages and stuff. So he just kind of put his patty on a bond real quick and started selling it, And he called it the hamburger because it was a Hamburg steak, basically a Hamburg steak, and he put it on a bud. That was Kim's Ackman. She was on this morning with the Bob Stroud is listening to her, she wrote a book called There's No Ham in Hamburgers. But The other thing, she said, is was the deep dish pizza was originated because it took longer to cook. And the restaurant tours who served it knew then that they could some more drinks if the pizza was in the oven a little bit longer. Kim's Ackman was on earlier today with Bob Syrup. Okay, we're going to talk with Kevin a little bit later about the Cubs, Anthony Rizzo and Jace Justin Hayward. Jason Heyward about I have just name issues I just do. About the fact that they admitted that they're not getting the Covid 19 vaccination. I was really surprised by those names will kick that around with Kev a little bit later, but first, let's look at your money. John Beaver is on the phone line. He is, of course, the president of Phase three Advisory services, John. Welcome back. It's good to be back. All right. Tell me about the Wall Street today because I thought the numbers were down and then I'm hearing Steve rocks and say we ended in positive territory. We did. We ended in positive territory. We've done this the last couple of days where we start down and then make it back up by the end of the day. That indicates positive pressure in spite of what the inflation headlines, so everything's going to be okay. Uh, yes, with some dips along the way, Right? Right. Long term, we're going to gain. Okay. Let's talk about meme stocks because they're all the rage and I was looking at one. And maybe you can help me on this one part of the earlier today there was a stock that Started out real hot, John and then and then lost some of its glow. But they were referring to it as a meme stock you You know what I'm talking about? The meme stock de Jure? Yes, Meme job Now, now, today, I'm not sure what was happening today, but the meme stocks as a topic. That's obviously from social media and the Internet. And that's where meme comes from. And they're here because of the millions of investors on social media, and they're making money right now at these stocks. We used to call these hot stocks 30 years ago. Now they're called meme stocks, and what's happened is you've got this red. It's Wall Street bets Group. Has actually created some fame for themselves by having some good text, and they've actually created quite a following, and it's turned out to be something that is creating substantial momentum and certain stocks and in many cases upside momentum that really isn't warranted by the fundamentals of the companies. I think I'm the one I'm thinking of today had to do with the diabetes treatment or Medication or something like that, and it jumped at the start and then given up most of it by well, when I looked at it was around midday. So they're they're called meme stocks just because of the popularity of memes on social media. Exactly right. Okay. And so there were hot stocks before I can see how they can build up a lot of momentum because of the online presence of social media and all of that 30 years ago, How did these hot stocks get created? Where they got created by again momentum. You got several investors that would start to invest a lot of money. The stocks would start to go up with garner the intention of people what we call reading the tape. Other people watching the stock trades during the day, and now that happens all online a lot more eyeballs on it because it's available to everybody, not just the professionals. Where it took time to kind of filter that through the professional 30 years ago. Now everybody can be their own money manager and have their own account, and, uh, it's I say it's fun to make money, and so really, it garners a lot of eyeballs. People are interested. It's a lot like gambling at this point in time. What's happening with the meme stocks? And so as long as the market's going up, this is going to work, so turns down. We'll see. Okay, so so it's a hot time right now because the market is trending upwards, so it's you can make money doing it do more people making money or losing money doing this? You know, I have not looked at the stats. I know long term, It's probably going to be difficult to make money in the short term. They can catch the upswing. The problem is, as I mentioned. A lot of these stocks are not worth the price that you're trading at right now. And so that's where some investors can get burned. All right. We've been talking from time to time about the proposed Biden tax changes. Um, but we don't know what's going to happen. And I mean, should we be. Should we be adjusting our portfolio or strategies now based on reporting or what's your advice when it comes to that? Yeah, This is tough. There's certainly going to be some change. This year, they will be changed to the capital gain structure. We don't know what that looks like, Just yet. Right now. There's committee action. Second half of 2021. They will be focused on Raising taxes to meet the budget and going to be one of the ways to do that, But what's interesting? This is, uh, the controversy right now is related to the long term capital gains rate. And they put on a piece that basically said that the effective date of this if past is going to be back to when it was originally talked about which is April 2021, so this is going to be retroactive. It's not very often that Something that's passed and it's retroactive. Now again, it has to pass, but they could likely get this through on budget reconciliation. So I think it's pretty certain that something's going to happen. We just don't know exactly what yes, Long term capital gains versus regular capital gains So long term capital gains anything that's held more than a year and you sell it. So a stock the bond, even a second home. And that rate is a preferred rate. It's a lower rate than your ordinary income rate that you pay on your wages and other income. So for anybody in the lower brackets, 12 up to 12% bracket, Actually, the tax is zero. And those in the higher brackets. It can be 15 to as much as 20% rate versus rate that would normally be in the thirties..

"As in zero pain. We're back on Chicago's afternoon news. I'm Steve Bertrand. We're talking to John Beaver. He is the president of Face three advisory services as we take stock of Wall Street and the markets these days, Okay, John, Welcome back. Let's go to a couple of world events will start with the one we've been talking most about against this pipeline. Shut down. It's up and running, but we're still feeling the effects and will for some time. What was that reflected much in the market. And what do you think the impact will be overall on the economy with this slow down on the East Coast in the southeast for a few days? Long term effect should be minimal. I think we saw a little bit of the selloff today meet probably was somewhat related to that colonial pipeline. Now it doesn't move Crude oil. It moves finished products like gasoline, diesel fuel jet fuel heating oil, So there's the things that people need to use immediately. And so it has this immediate effect on the economy as opposed to crude oil, which would take a little while to work through. So there was probably that affect plus the uncertainty of while this major hack and turns out they did pay five million to the cyber criminal cyber criminals. It was in Bitcoin, not dodge coined, by the way that a nice way to pay it anyways, Bitcoin. And so if hackers can get to the D o d of sandstorm from getting to Microsoft and really, you know, there's this feeling like nothing is really safe in shoe. Gonna drop Health Department was taken down sometime today as well. Um, so as you're trading as you're investing How does that way I knew what do you look at? It's actually minimal. That's a that's a little one off of that. We're looking for things that could actually dramatically affect the whole economy, for example, bringing down an entire nation white system that could be a real problem now granted, it's a problem for the For the East Coast. But these companies, they have backups upon backups. That lot I t professionals out there and generally speaking, it takes some time. But we can get these things back up and running. Okay, I get it. I'm with you on that. But I'm talking about is long term investing or when you're investing in planning, you talked about how Microsoft could be victimized other places. I mean, does that come into the equation when you're deciding on which country companies to invest in No, not really. Because of the risk pretty much across the board that everybody everybody has. You know, It's the risk that we, you know, everybody has the rest when they get in the car that they're gonna have an accident, But it's not something we think about. We don't worry about it. We just go about our daily life building with the investing with us. How about the ongoing conflict and in some ways escalating conflict now? Between Israel and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. That could potentially be more you know, we're used to this conflict were used to some missiles going back and forth. So at first, it doesn't Doesn't affect us on this side of the pond that much a big effect over there. But it is not something that comes into our thinking, other than at some point in time. Could this blow up into Ah, bigger issue and again, probably not so much for us. It would be larger conflict that would create that issue, But that's That's when we do a portfolio design. We always make sure that we've got some money on the sidelines. People should look at this so they can survive a downturn in the markets that lasts more than a couple of months. Something that might last a year or two. You know, I started with me saying I'm not even joking. I do look a bit for what gay every morning just because it's been encouraging lately. It's a nice wait. It's a pick me up just like the cup of coffee. But what's the smart thing to do when it comes to your four? Oh one k. I mean, a lot of people say, Look at it once a year. Look at it four times of year. I mean, be realistic. What do you expect people to do? Well, it's really based on their personality. For some people, they can't hardly go day to day without looking at it. Just it creates for some reason, some some point of comfort for other people. They don't want to look at it. So the first thing is it, understand who you are, is an investor. Second thing is to understand whether you're an accumulator or a user, right. So an accumulator someone in their twenties thirties forties fifties, putting the money in a month at a time. You really want to ignore what the market is doing. You're using a process called dollar cost averaging every time the market drops, you can cheer because you're buying more shares. However, as you move into that use face now the strategy changes and quite right now, if you're retiree using income Would look at this. Every 10% vice, maybe pull some money off the table to feed your required minimum distribution or the escrow is that you're building for your car purchases your home repairs, extra health expenses, vacations, things like this. I would keep any money. Any money and even next 3 to 5 years should be out of the market and be with the President. Phase Three Advisory service is great to talk to you again. John. I appreciate it. Right here. We're back on Chicago's afternoon news. And, you know, this is the time of the day when we check in on the news room temperature today will find some stories that there may be hot or cold. I think we've got a theme brewing today. It's all sponsored by American weather makers. Heating and cooling. You know them. They are your 60 minute men, okay? We will start today with the doobie Andy Maser. Sorry about.

"E. I wanted to thank my colleagues for the opportunity to serve as the House Republican Conference chair. I have prioritized listening to all members of our Republican conference, and my focus is on unity because that's what the American people and that's what are voters deserve. I also want to thank President Trump for his support. He is a critical part of our Republican team. That is the least to Vanek, who was chosen today by House Republicans as their new conference chair. She replaces Liz Cheney, who was ousted from the post. Earlier this week Interesting that Stefanik praises and thanks, President Trump. He was her champion. Of course. Liz Cheney lost the gig because she called out the president for falsely claiming that he won the election. Okay, Big news. We've been talking today about businesses opening up and just the last couple of minutes or so Wal Mart. Announced that on May 18th so not today, but four days from now, all employees and guests customers who have been vaccinated will be invited to shop there and work there without wearing a mask. Someone else texted in from 63. Oh, that in Westmont, the standard market grill and talk one Margarita has signed, saying up per CDC guidelines. If you're fully vaccinated, a mask is not needed and social distancing is not required. John Beavers on the phone line. Now he is the president. Phase three advisory Services, John Welcome. Thanks, Steve. Good to be here. So a little bit of Ah, let me just say this, John, you know, I I know it's a bad habit, but things have been going well, so it's been kind of fun every morning to wake up and check my four Oh, one K. It's been fun up until this week. It wasn't so much fun this week. Wait till Monday. Things going to get better on Monday, John, We had a good close today. I don't want is gonna be better, but we had a good close to them. You right? So the numbers will look better today are on Monday then they did this morning. The rebound today wouldn't make everything up that we lost this week, right, still ending down for the week. Yeah, And actually yesterday Thursday being enough update, But Wednesday was a down day and Thursday is what we call an inside day. That means that the trading value of the trading range yesterday was inside Wednesday's day. Tell me that this is probably a continuation pattern of maybe a little bit more downside, so I wouldn't be surprised if next week isn't all that good. Thursday's volume. Today's volume was lower than Wednesday's falling volumes. So this is what we call the virgins where we see maybe some stability and price, but we see weakening the mo mentum not surprising, given the time of year. Is that common phrase sell in May and go away? Well, it's so but I was looking at the notes You sent over for the show, and you're looking for a bit of a legitimate correction coming up Still 8 to 10% drop I still think we can have a 10%. The market is still richly priced. We got good news, though on the earnings front, But we also have this pressure from inflation, and we'll have to see if this goes another couple of months. If it's just a one month aberration, which I don't think it's going to be. We could have a little trouble this summer. But I don't think that this is going to kill the rally. We're still in a bull market that I expect to go for several years. I read some areas where they say that in a person 8 to 10% drop Is actually kind of a good thing for the long term market. It really is. We need some volatility. Volatility is good. People might think that it's not so good. It's actually really good cause it shakes out the weak hands in the stocks that creates opportunity. It's actually a necessary part of market psychology. Much like breathing. You have to exhale as well as inhale. You can't just keep inhaling. So that's good. The Fed should not try to dampen this volatility to March. We really need a market driven economy, not a fed driven economy. And this is going to be part of this process of getting off the juice of the Fed, Experiencing some inflation and a little bit more volatility. What do you mean, when you say that the volatilities shakes out the weekends? So what happens is when people hold stocks in the stock market just gets Keeps going up. They feel comfortable with what they have A soon as some volatility comes in, some drops come in. They question their holdings so people that don't have a lot of conviction and what they hold or their short term traders. They will quickly cell and that's what can lead to some of these fast down days. And that's great because that means they're going to sell shares to the long term holders. Generally speaking, that's what we mean by shaking out the weak hand. How are we for the year on the markets? So we're pretty good on the effect we have. We got some divergence in the upswing now between the NASDAQ and the Dow. We've got the value stocks that have come on strong again. We're probably ahead of where we should be at this point in time in the year, But we are in this economic spring and this will go for several more years. In my opinion before inflation really starts to take over and challenge the market, so this will be an okay year from here on. We've had a nice first quarter a nice start to the second quarter. Maybe a little pause here in the third quarter. And then if pattern holds up, we'll have a good fourth quarter again in the market. So when you say we're in an economic spring, you're talking big picture. Not May, June. You're talking about the overall economic recovery. We're just in the spring of it. That's right and think about the seasons and the economy is 15 years each. They can be a short as 10 as long as 20. So think, 15. And also think about whether here in Chicago.

Consensus among leading economists as we simply can not afford not to do what I'm proposing. Biden's plan faces a tough road ahead. For example, Biden will need to convince enough Republican lawmakers to support it. Biden says he's ready for that. And, as is his custom, he repeated that he remains optimistic.
