"And so I collapsed in front of Roy the four of them give grasp a grab an armor a limb to give that exertion to pick me up because this is not a place to wait for medical care to get to me The fire is still burning and spreading smoke is filling up that hallway And when they grab me you know they give that first exertion to pick me up and I don't come with them They end up carrying chunks off of me and I begin screaming at them to leave me alone And I know in my heart I'm telling them to leave me there to die Because when you're that badly burned just being touched is agonizing but they're kind of like that paraffin treatment when you put your hand in the hot wax and then when you pull it out and it solidifies within it just peels right off That's what happens with burn flesh because the moisture in your body has been evaporated out and now there's nothing that moisture is what actually holds us together and that moisture is gone And so now just chunks come off and eventually the move me chuck rolls me over on the left hand side forcibly puts his arms underneath my left side of my torso taking chunks of the back off but eventually the four of them are shaking hands with each other that instead of grasping me they're gripping each other's arms with my body weight resting on their connected arms They eventually carry me through the beam ring door into an a ring access where I would receive my first medical care in the a ring from an air force doctor and John Baxter colonel John Baxter John would have the go bag that had a morphine morphine syringes IVs and things of that nature So he was headed to the medical clinic to be a part of the triage but basically 5 or 6 of us have been set here and what's the hasty triage location He stops Puts the takes my shoes off so that he can find a good place with clean skin and a vein So he puts the morphine in the right foot the IV in the left Natalie ogletree a wonderful lady from the navy

You recall that We moved rapidly to get a contract. Fix the pentagon where this tragedy had occurred and Those contractors worked day and night and they finished ahead of schedule did a super job. Great patriots Other than that. They have the pentagon now is like a museum with Paintings pictures Great great here to visit. Yeah so this was your final duty station right You got out and two thousand four. Yes i actually never made it out the door but You know so. This operation still exists. We're still doing that. Core of things that i described We have many more patients these days. We still work closely with the dealer. Lorenzo clinic and We actually have a couple more clinics at andrews report up to us here and so we try to stay ahead of these things We try to train Regularly we try to anticipate the worst case scenarios that could occur. We try to keep abreast of the news if we see something. That's a little unusual in the news and we start checking the news little more often because We saw what happened on nine eleven and and we live in a dangerous world and it's our job to be part of the solution. If something really bad happens. God you so you walked out. As the as the commander couple months later became the director Part of that mission for you now is to be the chief. Pearl harbor and i say that in a sense that is a direct or indirect reason so many f. and oem veterans lives have been permanently altered or changed or put the rest early all the way to august. Twenty twenty one o careers have come and gone now going to war because of what that they did and how it changed the direction of the country today that none of us should forget reflection. And that's what this is going to be all about due to the short week. Count this as your monday episode for the thirteenth and we'll get to our normally scheduled news releases and feedback on september twentieth. But for this episode. I wanted to focus solely on the stories that are about to be told this interview is it's one of my most sobering interviews that have ever done in my entire career for over twenty years air force veteran. Dr john baxter has been a flight. Surgeon has been the person for multiple of defense both in and out of uniform twenty years ago he was the commander of the flight clinic in the pentagon when the plane hit the building before any helicopters landed before the first ambulance showed up our guests helped the immediate recovery and evacuation effort of the pentagon on nine eleven and two years ago for the first time other than in writing. He gave his own personal account of that day again. His air force veteran dr. john baxter. Lot of memories.

Will the president listen to them, John? Good evening to you. Well, I mean, either there's a game being played. And, uh, President Biden wants to make the People that helped elect him happy. What It's hurting the American people, and we talked about it last week, John. We've talked about that, under the scenario, closing the Keystone pipeline or not creating it. Saudi Arabia and the OPEC nations wind All Americans lose. The price of oil has gone up dramatically in the last 30 days. 60 days, eyes almost hit $60 a barrel today. And what does that mean? That means the price of food is going up. That means that the price of gasoline is going up. That means the price of airline tickets are going up. Everything is going up because everything goes by transportation. So you know what that means where they were president, Biden says. We're not going to raise taxes to the poor. Well, that's not correct. When you raise the prices of food. When you praise the prices of gasoline, that's attacks and every poor person. Every middle class person is going to pay more for their food. They're going to pay more for their Everything they buy for their homes because it's the course are getting larger because everything involves oil and It's called. It's just gonna cost everybody more money. And where does that lead to? Inflation and you're going to see inflation by the end of the year if we if the price of oil doesn't reverse herself and stabilize where energy superpower I have not trying to ruin it. But I have not been able to figure out why the White House made this mistake so early on, it's it's the strangest thing. The oil's going to be sold is going to travel. It's going to travel and In tanker cars going traveling pipelines. It's going to go to customers who are free to travel and pipelines. Yes, but in the governor of Michigan, besides is trying to make troubles up in Canada would I think it's line number five another M Bridge pipeline. They're just trying to make troubles and you know what's going to hurt. It's gonna hurt all the Democratic states of New York and Pennsylvania. And it's gonna hurt about it. Why is it happening? John who? Who is the audience who's pleased by this? They Do are they do they need to be told that the economy it wants to recover, and there's in there inhibiting it with these odd decisions. We've had a president. That's a Democrat. We have. Ah, we salute the new president, United States Joe Biden. Why is California Why is ill annoys? Why is New York not opening up the economies of those states and help the whole country go north? You know, President Trump is gone. We can't blame President Trump on everything. Why are those states not opening up for business? The price of oil is what we're watching right now, however, because the economy is got momentum, I think we're okay. John. I really do. I think we've come out from under the shadow of the Valley of the shadow of death. I think we're in New York. I'm worried about New York, John all right, well turned in New York now because his recent to worry We've talked about crime for some time. There has been a serious of incidences last week. Sometimes in the subways, sometimes not in the subways, the NYPD. You talked to them all the time. What is their position? About why these crime is happening again here in the winter to the highest law enforcement officer in New York City is the mayor of New York. He they could only do what the mayor of New York says that can do. Mr. De Blasio is not helping by saying that we're in a pandemic Every time somebody challenges him about crime, we W. ABC radio did a poll the other day. Are you safe going into the subways? Do you know the results of the poll? I could guess Because I don't feel safe going into this. It was 75 80%. People don't feel safe, right? And if you don't open up the if you don't create safety in our street to New York, Yes. What New York is gonna suffer even more. The people I wanted. People want to open up New York. People want to come back to New York. They want to be able to go out. You need New York. They want to be able to go to theater. We want New York back the way it used to be a governor Cuomo. Friend of yours. Long time friend of his family. Governor. Cuomo has said Valentine's Day is going to permit partial re opening of the restaurants directed himself today. It's going to open up Friday. Okay? No. Yeah. Stormer New Year March wants to make the the Asians Happy and Lunar New Year It's gonna open up. Does this mean he's going to stand aside and no longer getting our wage? I listen, I hope he I root for his success. I wrote that he opens up New York faster and faster. However, his own party is now speaking out against him his own party not just to do with the nursing homes, but with many of these decisions he's made has he lost the confidence of the Democratic majority in Albany. Well, he has He has a chance of losing it. If he acts fast and turned things around that he'll save his reputation. There is a story saying that if we had in New York had recall the way they do in California, Governor Cuomo would be in trouble. Do you think Recall is a wise Thing to have to stay recall. I think every city and every state should have the ability to recall because to be able to stand still and not be able to do anything if we have a real bad governor of Rio back Bad mayor. That's no way to live. All right, finally because you know the energy business and I'm keen on the energy business right now because of ki styles, Keystone XL Pipeline. What do you hear? Will the president reverse his decision? Will he listen to wiser voices? I would say that over the next 30 days, I think there's a good chance he will reverse his position because Otherwise, America loses. That is the best news. We can have, Mr Biden. It was a mistake. "John Baxter. This is the job. That's our show my professionals, David Drucker of the Washington Examiner and John Fund International View Online. Well now, well, now suppose the story they're going to start writing in the next 24 hours, which is the second impeachment and trial by Senate. Of the now former president of the United States. Donald Trump, David I get I get excited when I read about what's wrong with the impeachment bill and how it will be cured by the House. Impeachment managers. And then I'm loved into thinking Not much is gonna happen here because senators air coming forward, saying this is unconstitutional or this is a regular or we're not going to permit evidence. What's the expectation now in Washington? Is this going to be 33 Ring circus? There? Is this going to be muted and summaries Red in the evening news. Well, John I expected to be somewhat muted. I expect the trial to be shorter than the former president's first impeachment trial. I think the Democrats are very cognizant of the fact that voters suffering from the pandemic. May not want them to waste too much time. Ah, adjudicating this article of impeachment, no matter how angry they are former President Trump and even if they hold him responsible for the siege of the capital in January, 6th and so I don't think they want a long drawn out trial with lots of evidence. Lots of sluts testimony. I'm not saying there's unanimity on that, but I think the powers that be have decided that a shorter trial Is a better try allow, and the whole point is that everybody is going to know from the perspective of people who hold President Trump former President Trump responsible for what happened on the sixth of January. Going to know that he has been held responsible and been punished. So, um, I think what you'll end up getting is, you know anywhere from 5 to 10, but probably more around 56. Republicans voting to convict It will be, of course, short of what they need for a conviction. And, um, we'll go about the rest of our February or the rest of our winner. Um, in this thing will be over. 3 to 6 Weeks was an estimate. Once upon a time. Is that still a number that makes sense, David No, I think it'll be sure than that. I think we're looking at two weeks. Max Max. Max. Max? Yes. Before spring time, John. What do the Republicans plan to respond? Are they going to show up and say unconstitutional? Are they going to read into the record Do you have in a sense of how the Republican Party Which is already voted almost is a body. I believe in for Rand Paul's initiative. How is going to respond to this? This recitation by the House managers? I think it will make two points. They don't want to argue the facts so much The fact you're not pretty, so they love you process and constitutionality, And they'll argue that this is a distraction from what Americans really want their Congress to focus on. Which is economic recovery and the pandemic. And in doing that, John, have they just play defense or they're going to go on offense and identify other instances where members of Congress have spoken out in a disorderly fashion over the last year. I think a lot of that happened in the house. And I don't think it had a great deal of effect. So you may see isolated instances of that. But the Senate prides itself on having a higher level of rhetorical debate. So not so much. David, the Democrats. The puzzle here is Joe Biden wants unity. Joe Biden wants cooperation. I understand there, you have to negotiate. In good faith in Washington. What do they hope to achieve what is the best outcome for the Democratic Party through these two weeks, if if if they stay to that by the end of February Look, I think if you were to talk to Democrats, they would tell you the best outcome would be that President Trump is convicted. They realized that that's not going to happen. But they believe politically, that there is little downside to holding the former president to account for what happened and for forcing if that's what it does Republicans to either defend him. Or try and whitewash what happened in his role in it as they see it, And on top of that, I think we need to understand that they were part of the Democratic base. Would be apoplectic if Democrats said For many other reasons, including that he's no longer in office, and we have more important crisis to deal with. We're going to sideline this that would not be acceptable. So you've seen President Biden trying to say very little about this? The White House trying not to comment on it. But it's something that Democratic voters are very keen on. And I don't think the Democrats believe that there is much downside to reminding Americans. Um what the 45th president did that. Didn't go over all that well, John what's the best outcome for the Republicans in the Senate? All the best outcome is the same probably is for the Democrats, which is that it takes a relatively short period of time. That they're no great mistakes made in the speeches or embarrassment and that People cannonballs parties to move on this quickly as possible to other matters. What I'm trying to figure John is this Is this an occasion for more rancor? Or can they can they find a way to move on afterwards and workers a body and not his two warring factions? Always going to be mixed. There's a great deal of hostility and animosity between the parties in the Senate. On the other hand, they also know In both sides that they're based. Expect something more from them. So it will be better. It will be rancorous. And it will also be short John Fund National View Online and the preview of Reagan. The movie is wonderful. We take note the passing of a member of Congress. Ron right Republican from Texas. We turn immediately to Mr Wright's colleagues and the political scene on the eve of the second impeachment trial by Senate for Now. Private Citizen Donald Trump, David, I begin with the positive news of Sarah Huckabee. Looking to run for a very important post. I think her father held once upon a time very happily as the governor of Arkansas. Is this a political actor? All fresh or is she an outsider? How is she going to run this David to your understanding? She's going to run this as an ally, former President Donald Trump. That is the United in the focus of her message so far that she worked for him. She was a close adviser to him. She is a champion of him. He's endorsed her. Her candidacy has chased the lieutenant governor, Tim Griffin, out of the race. He's been planning to run for governor and be governor for quite some time, Tim Griffin. Was a congressman at one point. Republican from Arkansas went home ran for lieutenant governor. He's not going to run for state attorney general. And so that gives you an idea of the half that Sarah Huckabee Sanders has an Arkansas and again I would just note she's focused most of her attention on her service to the 45th president. And just in passing made reference to her father. Former governor Mike Huckabee. John Mr Fund. You have a wonderful story up at the National Review Online. I recommend everyone, especially Ronald Reagan. The movie. Where's it been? John? When's it gonna come out? It's been in the works for 10 years, and it's being financed independently, so studios don't get their fingerprints on it to try to change the script and yank it in a different direction. Stars Dennis Quaid, who got his start in the right stuff, and is that many fine world since then. It just finished filming at the Reagan Ranch and Reagan library. I was lucky enough to be present for that. And what is what is the theme here? Because Ron Reagan lived a long and complicated, extremely romantic life. They're going to spend a lot of time in Hollywood are going to spend a lot of time with G the governorship where John because there's a huge story here to reduce to less than two hours Well, The good news is it's going to be two hours and 25 minutes. I'm not certain about that. However, he's got great credibility when it comes to taking care of a blue state. As a Republican governor he's on. He's unsure that Mr Biden is meeting his expectations of Unity house. So David Well, look, the president has not moved off of his $1.9 trillion covert relief package He's met with Republicans herd them out on their concerns and listen to their counter offers. But he continues to say that he believes his package is what is needed and what Governor Hogan did in a video for AH group that urges bipartisan cooperation. Eyes, criticized the president and say that if he's serious about his inaugural pledge to bring both sides together And reduced partisan tensions in the country. He really should see a actual legislative compromise now in the same video, uh, the governor was critical of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. For also not doing enough to reach the actual compromise verses just criticizing President Biden's proposal, but I think it was notable that Governor Hogan, who Um, is interested in running for president in 2024. Unclear what his prospects would be given his, um and tagging ism toward President Trump and how the base feels about trump and they love him. But still president Governor, Hogan has now shifted to the new regime, and he's criticizing President Biden. We'll see if it's a strident as itwas with President Trump. But, um I think they're he's intending to appear at least even handed, if not a little bit more traditional where you have a Republican of criticizing the Democratic president, rather than a Republican. Criticizing a Republican Presidents. David is my memory correct. He's both a cancer survivor and a covert 19 survivor. Cancer. I know for sure You're correct about that. And I think you're right. But I'm also now second guessing myself. No. Forgive us for goodness. Governor Hogan with cancer is enough. You don't need another one. It's okay. You survived that. I'm glad you're with us. John. Joe Mansion since you published your piece at the National Review Online mansion's been on the vote for the stimulus package, which happened I believe early in the early hours of last Friday. 51 50. These vice president determined it. Does this change your opinion of Joe Mansion or is he still the swing vote? Don't swing road in the consummate dealmaker. The way to get more for West Virginia is to vote to have this bill proceed. And I suspect that you mentioned will be with the Democrats more often than not. He can always hold out for more, and he can always with the other side if he doesn't get more. The puzzle back to mention that it's not a huge puzzle is just a challenge. He he's not for election till 24. So he's got four good years here to develop. He'll be 77 years old. Does he want to stay in the Senate? John? Or do we think this is His last four years. He has found the Senate very frustrating. Having been a governor and I strongly suspect that if he wants to run again, there will be a governor. The governorship will be vacant in 2024 u two term limits. So he doesn't Oh, Chuck Schumer anything in theory? That's why he's going to put practice the squeeze game rather than to be squeezed. David Mitt Romney. I'm I'm very impressed by the fact that he's come up with a proposal that looks expensive, but, you say is revenue neutral. For couples, American couples and their Children eyes this a surprise to the Republican Party. It's actually a new thing. Well, it may surprise some because they have long thought of Mitt Romney, as you know, a small government. Uh, cut the programs when people let the market in the private sector, uh, do as much as possible. But this is really part of Ah. Sort of new wave of Republican proposals that we've begun to see more and more of over the past four years where Republicans have shifted away from The party libertarian leanings of the latter part of the Reagan years. The Reagan era, I should say and come to embrace government is having a roll through programs funded by taxpayers. To help the needy to help people that are less fortunate that helped to help people that need a leg up now what Republicans tried to do and this is what Romney is doing with this proposal is Developed better programs and to pay for them get rid of old programs. Romney also proposes proposes to do away with the tax deduction for state and local taxes. As a way to keep this revenue neutral. So it's a conservative, a sort of new conservative approach to helping needy Americans. And in that regard, it's not surprising because we've seen so much of it lately. Is this the new Romney? Or is this the old Romney that's reintroducing himself after Trump? I think it's probably the same. Romney that as governor of Massachusetts came up with the health care program that Have the state mortgage deeply involved in in administering health care..

"New York one more time John Baxter show off four hours available. All the time on distinguished podcasters such as I'm John. Not sure this is the job. That's her show Congressman Devin Nunes 22, California The sand marking Valley is with me and in discussing his podcast and The ability of America to trust in the news that's coming through on social media. We deal with these strange stories such as Twitter's, such as Facebook, etcetera, but then we come to something where we can anticipate is going to be difficult to believe the information. This is the impeachment trial. The second impeachment trial of the former president of the United States, Donald Trump. Kevin, this is going to start within these next hours. It's going to start next week. John Yoo of the University of California, Berkeley, has have lengthy peace and National Review online. I recommended to everybody About what's wrong with this show trial is how he identifies it. There's so many moving parts here. I could go on for minutes about what's wrong with it. Why is this happening? Devon? What is the mood in Washington? The new president said he wanted unity. Why is his party making these rankers remarks and anticipating what clearly is not a fair balance about and balanced presentation? Well, The quick answer is is they don't care. The more they keep this out there, the more that they can try to label Republicans on try to smear us that we're responsible for all the writing that's been occurring. And all the breakdown in the institutions and all the breakdown across the country were now all domestic terrorists. It fits the narrative that they want to build. So so I was actually it's interesting question, John. Just a few minutes ago, I was talking to one of our newer members. Who was asking me what it was like under the Pelosi regime, Obama regime back in 2000 and nine and 10 and what it was like to operate in Congress. And I said, Look, At that time. It was really chaotic. They couldn't they couldn't run couldn't keep the trains running on time. They bring us in on Friday, and you know we'd sit here for days on end and not do anything on a Monday. Then we wouldn't do anything all week until Friday. And then we get out. Not not do anything. Um, but they didn't go so low is where they would just start smearing multiple members of Congress on go so far as like they did this week. And Booty member of Congress off a committee, which is unprecedented in 240 years. And, you know, every member of Congress says things they wish they wouldn't have said at some point in their lifetime. I mean, I think every man and woman on earth Such things that they would regret. This is such a strange issue, because, well, this is they went after somebody for something they said years ago, two or three years ago. Who's just about it? So it's really worrying an unprecedented uncharted Territory. So the same goes for the impeachment fiasco that's going on. It's all part of the narrative that they wanna build. So the impeachments gonna be about riding mobs. Insurrections. Domestic terrorists are everywhere. We've got fencing around the capital with barbed wire National Guardsmen out there. With with with automatic weapons. It's just a surreal situation, John. We even have we have to go through metal detectors now to get on the house floor, because what they're the narrative they're building out there is that But The Democrats. They're all scared of the Republicans. Republicans have guns and they might they might shoot, they might shoot one of us. So now we're all going through magnetometers as we come into the house floor. They've made the poor Capitol police now are are like the, uh, they're likely a secret secret police, you know, back in the back in the cold War days where they're patting down the members wanting us and Capitol police in a very Tough position. And so This is the atmosphere that they've created here on what you're watching, unfortunately, is just the decay of one of the most important institutions in the United States of America. That's the Legislative branch of our government, the United States Congress. It's just completely melting away. All normal decorum is thrown out the window. You've got half of the Democrats arm or that air Sitting in their basement, watching Netflix eating popcorn on their having somebody vote for him by by proxy. They're not even coming here, even though we all were vaccinated for for the coronavirus. Why were we vaccinated? Because we're supposed to come here and deliberate. We're supposed to be working, you know, trying to work out our differences and communicating. But this is what a poulet bureau system socialists love. They love to keep everybody at home. Keep them in their basements. Those of us who want to be here who think it's inappropriate to be to be voting from home in our basements on? I don't have a basement, John, but They want us to come here to be painful. They only let I mean there's there's an entire wall around the entire capital, John. There's only like two entrances They even have of the interest is to the to the House floor. You could only enter in three different areas and you have to exit in two different areas. It's it's bizarro. It's a freak show. And it's wrong. I had no idea, Devon. I did not know I've seen pictures, but what you're describing is somebody who's preparing for the invasion from Mars. Jim Jordan could have easily wanna Republican primary it for Senate, depending on the field, But he also would have had to take a risk and His particular district. Even with redistricting coming up, he has nothing to worry about, and will never have anything to worry about. And he has a a slot on a major committee in the house where he gets to run, run something and be come. Chairman. If they take back, Georgie He's really a creature of the house, so you can understand why he didn't want to run. But it's a sharp observation that everybody's been slow out of the gate. I think one of the reasons is that nobody expected Rob Portman and retire. It really surprised everybody. He didn't even drop hints that he was going to retire. And so now everybody is assessing. I do think you know whether it's lieutenant governor or Mr Ghost. There's a question about whether or not they could get through Republican primary. Is paired against, UM, a candidate more closely aligned and defined as closely lined with Mr Trump and defined as a trumpian kind of Republican, especially an attitude. Versus somebody affair or not defined as an establishment candidate, so it that could be what's holding some people back and a lot of the names we're hearing. Are people that were either associated with Trump were thought to reflect trump in some manner, plus the couple of potential self funders deep pockets and that sometimes scares people away. So I think eventually will have a field of Multiple candidates, but, yeah, you know, it's it's not like it's necessarily the heaviest lift of all time. And yet there's been so much caution. I think one final thing on this. I think a lot of Republicans around the country as well as in Washington are trying to assess What it means right now to be in a post trump period. With Trump out of the White House yet not out of sight. And so it's not exactly post trump, either. Yes, and into that gray zone come to candidates for 2024 Christine Om. Of the South Dakota and Mike Pompeo, former secretary of state appearing at CPAC, you report and burnishing their credentials. I think that's the cliche. Even though ever present, it does allow them a little bit of freedom to begin to define themselves. Not just as supporters of him and continuing his own legacy or his, you know agenda but how they might be different, how they might be different compared to the potential competitors and how they might want to find the party. And it gives people a real opportunity to see them for the first time for who they are, and not just sort of ancillary figures within the Trump. Orbit. And and so I think that will make CPAC for the first time in a long time. Intriguing. It's always interesting, and there's always plenty to do there, but I think it's going to be very intriguing. And I don't think that gnome. On Bumpy are going to be the last 2024 contenders that are confirmed speakers on their main stage there, David I'm going to draw an analogy to two other instances where the party was unsure about its next candidate for the presidency. One in 2012 2013. After Mr Mr Romney lost the election, there was some recognition that he'd run again that he'd run for the open seat in 2016. And there were people Moon hovering around figuring well, Romney's got uneven. On easy access, and I can recall being called by a dominant democratic player. No names, but in any event dominant influence, sir. As saying. Well, of course it's going to be Romney. This would have been in the winter of 15 gonna be Romney and I said, No, I don't think he's going to run. The Mr Romney made his announcement that he's not going to run surprising the Democrats. Now. The reason I tell that story is isn't this routine David that you think that the person who just lost is going to run again in four years time, and it never happens. Mrs. Clinton was often mentioned in the winter of 2017 with Mr Trump and artifice. As Of course, she'll run again and you'll win and she's viable and look what she's saying. So is it possible? That's what we're seeing David that old the old story about not quite used to getting away from the candidate, though he's not going to reappear. So I think in this case, it's a little bit of both. And I say that because you're absolutely right. We always hear this kind of speculation and often it never amounts to much, Um However, um, it least the way Mr Trump and his allies have been presenting matters. He plans to be a dominant force in Republican politics. Campaigning for candidates intervening the primaries. Holding events at some point again being if media picture of some sort where, as compared to recent predecessors, both Democrat and Republican once they've left the White House. Go on just into a self imposed exile for some period of time, both because they're exhausted and because they want to give their predecessors room to maneuver. He's a recognizable figure. A man who is celebrated in the Democratic Party is a folk hero. His name Senator Bernie Sanders, John. Ah, very good evening to your story in the National View Online is a revelation to me because I hadn't put all these moving pieces together. Mr Biden is the nominee and the president of the Democratic Party, because, as I recall before the pandemic changed the story, it was presumed that Sanders was on his way to an easy victory over the field. And then there was an intervention. I think that's a polite way to put it. And it was Mr Biden. What does Joe Biden Oh, Bernie Sanders. And what does the Democratic Party Oh, Bernie Sanders. Good evening to you. Well, thanks, John. Remember that in 2016. When Bernie Sanders lost the nomination, Hillary Clinton, he gave a very backhanded endorsement was rather grouchy. And a lot of Sanders voters are there sat home in November, or some of them even voted for the Anti establishment Donald Trump. So Joe Biden wanted to avoid that. So he conducted the peace treaty with Sanders after you won the nomination. Sanders was not gonna with beat Donald Trump. And that's why the Democratic establishment turned to Joe Biden at their last bulwark against having the Socialist Sanders on the ticket and the treaty was that Sanders would take seriously. But it would take seriously Sanders his position on issues in the point people that Sanders would like to keep positions. Sanders presumably is still a socialist. He was when he was a younger man. How does that translate immediately into what we're seeing Joe Biden do. Do you see it yet, John, Or is it to come? Well, I think Biden is the ultimate transactional politician. Untold Irish Paul from Wilmington, Delaware, by way of Scranton, and he likes to placate all of the wings, the Democratic Party, so the foreign policy wing is pretty much establishment. The Labor Department's being run by the unions. The environmentalists got the killing of the Keystone Pipeline, the racial Justice warriors. They're getting a lot of the sub cabinet positions, but a lot of the top positions like Attorney General and Department of Education are going to relative moderates. So Sanders is basically the Bidens basically the broker All of these factions, But the Sanders faction is probably the biggest of them all individually, and he's giving them the most individual portion of the pie. Mr. Sanders is emphasizing That in 2017 2018. He was against using the Senate majority to pass a tax laws, which is how the trump people did it. Is and you're a piece identifies the fact that Sanders is now ready to use the protocol that he denied in 2017 2018. How does it work, John? Crucial is traditionally have always decide that the interest by the names and if you're going to get to the socialist utopia, you have to break a few eggs. And so, Sanders says, Well, it was unfair and ridiculous and horrible that the Republicans And, uh, I didn't ask for 60 votes to pass their program. But that was when it was benefiting the rich. Now that this program is going to benefit the poor, we can go do it. So he Sanders as head of the chairman of the Budget Committee, which is a very powerful post in the Senate. Is going to try to run roughshod over the Republicans and passes much of his social welfare legislation and health care expansion, as he can using just a simple majority, But of course Just one senator of Joe Mansion or West Virginia or Christian Cinema of Arizona can put a halt to that is, is Bernie Sanders, old fashioned left, John or is he Is he Church of woke left, Do we? No. Well, he's adapted to the Church of Work left, but actually, you know the Bernie Sanders, who first got elected the 19 eighties, um, was on old style Industrial union Democrat. By the way, opposed gun control in the Vermont of the 19 eighties because, as he once told the constituent how we're going to have the revolution if they're armed, and we're not So what we're looking at, then is a man who's mixing his positions over many decades. Do you expect this to extend into other legislation besides the redistribution, mouth? The socialist care about do you expect to see Aggressive progressive politics, not just socialist politics, but progressive politics. Well, it'll be interesting how they handled the environmental issues because you know Biden's canceling of the power permits for the Keystone Pipeline. John cost 11,000 Union workers their jobs 11,000. And these air pipe fitters and bricklayers and all kinds of good union jobs, and they've been promised to be retrained for a job somewhere else. But of course, the federal government is a horrible job, job retraining, So I think there any standards And the radical fringe of the solar power. Wind turbine environmental left May have. Shall we say a bit of a conversation or reckoning in the future because their goals may not be heading in the same direction. The sender's go along with the idea of no more fracking. Now I know Biden keeps Twisting that around. But banning fracking on federal land is a predicated for banning fracking or restricting it completely. Just Sanders care about that. Not particularly, but I think that he goes along with the environmentalists, because, you know, they scratch his back. He scratches their back. But in the end, you know, fracking. Creates a lot of union jobs, and I think I think they're going to be there. Fissures and tensions within the Democratic coalition that will come out now that their governing and not just campaign does Biden object to the fact that Sanders is agenda is now his agenda. Is that okay with Joe is he just he share the wealth. You know, I think Sanders is agenda is bides agenda on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, Budden has a different agenda. Biden is not a moderate. He's not a liberal. He's not a radical. He is a transactional politician. And no one is going to be completely satisfied with him. And no one is going to be completely mad at him in the Democratic coalition. I've saved the best till last. The mystery of Bernie Sanders Mittens. Everybody seen him sitting there listening to the Festivities for the inauguration. John, you've you've tracked down the origin of the mittens. Explain, please. We have about a minute. Well. Jim Harris is a very nice public school teacher in Essex Junction, Vermont. She had a mitten business. She gave Bernie one of the her pairs of mittens because she liked Bernie and his policies. But it turns out that when Bernie made her mittens famous, she didn't have any mittens to sell because she's going out of business because high taxes and federal government regulations distort your business, and she's very bitter about it. Now the puzzle to me Savage how Ms Pelosi believes this will unify the country because my Republican party the one I belonged to all these years. Does not believe the president was guilty of insect incitement to insurrection if you do, but the party doesn't in general and also said, are there 17 Republican senators who will vote? Mitch McConnell asked for a delay, but 3 to 6 weeks while at the same time the president of the United States is saying, we're entering a war time undertaking as many as half a million Americans could be dead. Soon enough of the Corona virus. He's ordered then National Defense Act to make available all the equipment, everything. We need wartime footing. SEB does not need a Show trial, which is what this would be without 67 votes. It'll it'll end with acquittal. Ah show trial that will read a repeat at all the allegations of January 6th and afterwards repeat all of them. That was one charge incitement to violence, Insurrection, which everybody has looked at the timeline the violent breach. I mean, this is the atmosphere that was true in the 18 57 of senators rising and fear of their safety on the floor of the Senate. And to charge Ted Cruz and Josh Holly. It tells me they want to provoke. They want trouble to what end? How do they gain from this? The election's over Biden is is the president. What do they gain from it? I think it Xuemei be just a very Simplistic calculation. I mean, What do they do without Donald Trump? What? What is the last four years being about? It's about demonizing the President. And the decision to distribute the vaccine is in the hands of state government, city governments, municipalities counties. And they're mixed stories. You point me to one story about the states that are doing best for distribution of the vaccine. They get their limited numbers of vaccines, a cloud each week and each week the steak. And constitutional problems with this impeachment, which is why it will. Ultimately, if they press the matter. It will lead Tonto exactly the opposite of what people like. Bloomberg wanted only to President Trump being acquitted and then being able to not only be relevant for as long as two trial takes place but also get acquitted and claimed vindication at the end. But as far as incitement is concerned. I've actually prosecuted. Incitement case. They're rare prosecutions in in the federal law, and it's because the reason they're rare is you know there's a colloquial sense of incitement. And then there is the technical legal sense of excitement. The colloquial sense the sense that we use the word when we use it in everyday talk is that you stir someone to do something. On its not necessarily got an overtone of violence, whereas in federal law, the crime of Solis of incitement is defined as solicitation of a crime of violence. So you have to clearly Express a desire that violent act occurred. There has to be proof beyond a reasonable doubt that you intended the violent act to occur, and also proof beyond a reasonable doubt. That you were in a position to bring the outcome about and there was a imminent possibility of its happening. With respect to what Trump said. At the speech in the lips. There's no chance that they could make at that kind of evidence, and it's true enough to say that as we covered many times, especially last year, you don't need A prosecutable penal offensive in order to have a knack of impeachment that is a high crime and misdemeanor, but what they're accusing him of is inciting an insurrection. And under the circumstances, he didn't not only didn't solicit violence he didn't call for insurrection. What he did was he gave a demagogic speech that stirred up the crowd. But I think as the fax come, and we're already learning that some of the violence was already going on at the Capitol while he was still speaking So you know they're gonna have proof problems. They're going to have this profound constitutional issue about whether you can impeach somebody on remove someone who's already been removed. That is whether you can have an impeachment trial when the president's already out of office. That's a big constitutional issue, and I point these things out simply because Impeachment is intentionally made up Hill under the Constitution. It's very hard to do you have to get to third Super majority of the Senate, and when your when your prosecutor and you're trying to prove something, that's uphill, what you want to do is give your jury reasons to want to acquit to convict rather The last thing you want to do is give them rationalizations that would justify acquittal and that's what they've done here. What else did she say that day? About the people who who were supporting her opponent who she wanted to help. Good evening to you, Bill. Hi, John. Will you remember that It was to a fundraiser right of her support supporters And she said, you know, speaking generally. Um about Trump. You know whether whether it's racism. Xenophobia is, um, almost phobia. Whatever Islamophobia. You'd have to put half of them into what I call a basket of deplorables. So, of course, that deadline is stuck with done, Mrs Clinton. But what's interesting to me is that she limit herself to saying only half and she went on to say that the other half Implying that they were decent, hard working people are people who have kind of lost her their faith. I think Joe Biden haven't won the election and having talked about healing. He's in a unique position to kind of put the brake on some of this stuff and say, Look, we're better than this, and we need to be moving ahead instead of re fighting all the grudges of left four years, which is a puzzle. Because Mrs Pelosi, speaker of the House has to my knowledge at this moment on the eve of said that she's going ahead with an impeachment vote. Other voices have been raised that they sent it will reconvene on the 19th. And that the Senate may call the trial at some point in future, too, impeached and removed from office. A man who is no longer in office. I understand their constitutional grounds grounds for this. However, Joe Biden has not moved Bill. It's impossible for me to imagine a Republican president who wouldn't have the power to order his own speaker of the House to stop the turmoil. Now, Joe Biden has that power. Or is this some kind of good cop? Bad cop game? He sounds ameliorated, but he lets Mrs Pelosi attack My fear is that what we're seeing now is this is going to be the pattern for the next two years. I mean, Joe Biden actually doesn't have the direct authority that Congress is a separate branch of government. Mrs. Pelosi doesn't work for him. But as the president and the leader of his party, he has an enormous influence on which direction the party goes. And I think if there any more sensible heads out the Democratic Party that I mean, there's some that have spoken out Joe Manchin. I think Tom Daschle today as it his warnings about impeachment. It would give lesser known people some cover if they were agreeing with the president, But I hate to say it. I'm not sure there's anything in Joe Biden's life. That shows he's willing to stand up to people in his own party and stand up for something you know when it's really tough. She'll say the words like a lot of senators well, but I don't see any evidence. He's going to do anything to try to make those words real for millions of people out there who think they're still regarded as deplorables and that people are trying to take away their voice. You know whether it's Twitter drive them out of politics. And in general, render them unfit for polite society. There. Denunciations underway Bill and you highlight one particular denunciation in your column. This is I statement that you tell me went out on the common actual college application people. You can you fill out one happen?
