"Mobile news on the level on the go. Pee believes the fight isn't just about this year. A cloudy morning so far. 34 degrees in a Circle City Today's high 37 I'm Sean Herrick. Here's what's trending at 8 31. Indiana Congressman Jim Banks, hoping for some changes after the debate over the constitutionality of the presidential election that Congress can come out of this and introduce election reforms like I intend to do in a bill that I'll release On Thursday that will address on ban processes like all mail in ballots and ballot harvesting. Banks plans to vote to oppose some electors and contested states Vice president and former Indiana governor Mike Pence is preparing to count electoral votes. Fox is Griff Jenkins hits his problems started hours ago in the president Tweeted this if Vice President Mike Pence comes through force. We will win the presidency. Many states wanted to certify the mistake they made in certifying incorrect and even fraudulent numbers in a process not approved by their state legislatures, which it must be Mike consented back. But the New York Times reports that tense told the president he did not have the power to block congressional certification. That's a report that the president has since called fake news, And he says that Pence is in total agreement with him control of the U. S. Senate all down to one race in Georgia. That's too close to call right. Now with more than 98% of the vote in Democrat John Assad leads Republican incumbent Senator David Perdue by around 16,000 votes. Democrat Raphael Warnock is the projected winner over Republican Senator Kelly Leffler. "Have the answer or throwback question. What is it that I got for Christmas? Unfortunately. Paul fax emitter. Yeah, don't give that to a corona contract, but my wife did. So would you like me that would you like me to broadcast my oxygen levels here on the nines or something? That would be good. We could compare him. I got one for Christmas too. Are you using it? Am I? How you doing? You 95 or above I am usually around 99. So I'm feeling good. Show off. Hold on there. Gary, get your address. We'll send you the throwback T shirt. Thanks for listening. Have a great day. Thank you. You two hold on now, 99. You're what night for your 94. Bob 95? Yeah. Don't Don't make me crazier. Okay? Ah, lot of people went to sleep last night, not knowing what happened with the two Senate runoff elections in Georgia. Let's get some late word on that and analysis from news nations. Dean Reynolds morning, Dean. Good morning. Do we know anything more Last I heard was we didn't know about that second race yet. Right. That hasn't been called yet. John Assad versus David Perdue race for a full six year term. The war knock against Lefler is a Two year term. Keep that in mind. So Raphael Warnock, who has been declared the winner. In that race will face the voters again in two years. But no call yet on the US up for do race. Any idea of when we might know something official there? I think it's going to be pretty quick pretty soon because most of the out, um standing votes are in areas of where Democrats Predominate, and, um, I don't know what the difference is now. I think it's 16,000 votes or something like that that are soft is ahead of Purdue. So you know, it looks as though the Democrats are going to control the U. S. Senate. And is it too early to tell who turned out and who didn't was the Republican turnout as large as expected? Do we know anything along those lines? We know that the Republican turnout was very high in you know, in deep red parts of Georgia Republicans came out as they Had in the general election in November. You know, upwards of 80% of voters. There just wasn't enough of them. Um, the Democrats met That rate of turnout and in some cases, um, bested that rate of turnout, So you know it's a turnout race. You know you get more votes. You win, right? I mean, it's simple Is that what's interesting this morning? Is I'm just sort of breezing through. Some of the channels this morning and there's already to blame Game this starting on. You know. Mitch McConnell didn't approve the $2000 direct payments if they had picked someone other than Kelly Leffler to be the Senator. She was a lousy candidate, etcetera, etcetera. So you know that, um, you know, that's the usual response of the losers. Yeah, I guess we'll be hearing more about How people in Georgia and everywhere for that matter want more stimulus, money and better vaccine. Roll out how much of an effect did that have on Also? Well, it appears from what you're saying that the people who are saying that President Trump may have Given a lot of Republican voters the idea to stay home because it's all rigged. It doesn't look like that had any major impact. No, it doesn't. But I don't think it helped. The Republicans who were running in this election to have the president, you know, come out and say the $600. Direct payment is inadequate. Let's go for 2000. And they had already bought into the 600. So then they had to scramble and say No, The 2000 is great. And then McConnell, you know, said no. The 2000 isn't any good, and it gave the picture. To the voters in Georgia that the Republicans really weren't on the same page together on how to deal with, you know a stimulus to cover people who have been victimized by a pandemic after all. Yeah, it's hard to underestimate or overestimate. I guess the impact that that that $2000 that possibility had on on voters. And you had a situation. You have a situation there. Where, Uh, I mean, the Democrats were saying, Will you vote for the Republicans here and Mitch McConnell's in charge, and you're gonna get $600 put the Democrats in and you're gonna get $2000. That's a tough argument. Right. That's the hard sell. Exactly. But you know, just for a second imagine now, if these numbers hold up George is going to have its first black U. S senator. And it's 50 years ago that Lester Maddox was the governor of Georgia, you know, avowed segregationist. This is a milestone. I think in not only in Georgia's history but also in in U. S history, and it's It's worth pausing to reflect on that. Yeah, it's historic. And finally, any of this have any affect on what may be happening with Vice president Pence and and what will be going on in the nation's capital later today? You know, this whole thing is theater. There is nothing that Poor Mike Pence can do to overturn the elections or the electors in these various states where there would be challenges lodged by Republicans. He does not have the constitutional authority. The president will probably, you know, tweet some unflattering things about his vice president for not overturning the vote, but he can't do it. There is no Real suspense. Unlike yesterday there was enormous suspense. This is all full of suspense. There's the election. Is over. It's not going to be overturned. A lot of whites voted for all soft and a lot of whites voted for or not, Warnock and we do appreciate that. We appreciate the concerted effort. There is more hope for unity than it is for division. There is more hopeful love than it is for hate. The only thing about Haiti is hate happens to be louder than love, and that's what's been a prevailing force over the last four years. His hateful ass has been allowed to perpetrate his hate bigotry and lies. The sad part about it is so many people believe the lies. No, it is a life and just go along with it anyway. I understand that now some people who are just less and don't really know that these allies they just want to believe in the person they voted for. Understand that But the politicians know better. Raphael Warnock has declared victory over Republican Senator Kelly Leffler. Come before you tonight as a man. Knows that the improbable journey that led me to this place in this historic moment in America It only happened here. The other Democrat John Assad leads Senator David Perdue by 16,000 votes on the votes that have to be counted are coming from blue District. So that doesn't look good, either On the good thing about all this guy says, I don't have to know it doesn't look good. Does that mean it doesn't look good that that doesn't sound objective on your part? Doesn't look good for David Perdue. Okay, fine. I didn't hear you say that. I thought you meant that didn't look good in general. Well, I don't know about that. But the one thing that just look good is, um I don't have to listen to these silly commercials. "Part of this month, All right, Will you just hold on there and keep it away from us for a while, Right. Thank you. Right. Meteorologist raced agent with the forecast. Well, looks like Democrats may win control of the U. S. Senate, Raphael Warnock has declared victory in the runoff election against Republican Senator Kelly Leffler. The other race. Still too close to call, but the Democrat leads there. Let's bring in NBC radio National correspondent Bill Zim for the latest on this pretty shocking results, I suppose. Yeah, Everything seems to be falling into place for Joe Biden here, Joe you mentioned Raphael Warnock has been projected as a winner and his runoff against Kelly Leffler and already that is a history making event. He becomes the first black senator from the state of Georgia. Also, it is just incredible where we've come in a generation now when Raphael Warnock was born Georgia's two senators were Richard Russell and Herman Talmadge, who were segregationists so you could say we have progressed as a society so already we have seen history being made. And now the other runoff race is becoming a little clearer. Now. John Assad has about a 16,000 vote lead as we speak over his opponent there, David Perdue. And the way we look at it now they're roughly a little more than 70,000 votes that are thought to be remaining here, Joe most of those air mail In which have been overwhelmingly democratic in these runoff elections. So it looks pretty clear at this point that John Oss off is gonna win the other runoff, which would give the Democrats control of the U. S Senate. But I can almost guarantee you there will be a lot of arguments over these over the next few days for sure also One other thing that appears to be a major factor here is turnout from the indications we have seen in New York Times has broken this down that the indications are that the turnout in some of the heavier Republican counties, the rural counties in Georgia was anywhere from 10 to 20% down from the general election, which may have told the story and these runoff elections. All right, let me see Radio National correspondent Bill Zimpfer. Speaking of elections Congress is moving to certify the results of the presidential election today, but a number of Republicans are going to object. President Trump says he expects vice president Pence to come through for him. Here's correspondent Jonathan Call's gonna be presiding over all of this. And Donald Trump believes somehow that this is Means that he has a chance to rules if you were the presiding judge, Of course, he's not. He's it's a ceremonial roles in his rolls, the president of the Senate, he basically has the gavel. He reads from a script that is literally provided by the parliamentarian, and he has no power to actually rule himself. The vice president actually told that to President Trump during a conversation yesterday, But the president tweeted early this morning it vice President Mike Pence comes through for us. We win the presidency. All right. Ask for Corona virus growing concern over that UK variant that is highly contagious Mayor de Blasio now calling for a ban on people flying from the U. K to the U.
