"News, Tim ream, who had started every premier league game for Fulham so far this season. He did so again on Sunday against Manchester City, but there you see it landed awkwardly on his arm early on afterwards confirmed by Fulham's manager that the arm is indeed fractured and that the 35 year old defender will miss the rest of the Premier League campaign for Fulham herc. What does this mean for reims role with the U.S. men's national team this summer? We know the Concacaf Nations League now just 6 weeks away. Listen, Tim room's got a little bit of credit under his belt. He's got a little bit of credit to his name. That's just a reality. Right now he's CB one in the eyes of many. It is a fracture, fractures usually take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. You're 45 days out from the nation's league semifinal in Las Vegas. It doesn't leave you a whole lot of room. Here are the positives with Tim ream. I told you about the credit. Another positive with Tim remus. It's not a weight bearing bone. If it was his 5th metatarsal, if it was somewhere around the knee, the tibula is something that's weight bearing. I would say this is bad news, but it's the arm. It's a place where you're not going to be one in constant impact with. You can rehab and potentially get there around that same date. I don't think this should be a plan for his attributes. That's not like a very physical player in terms of crashing, bashing, coming into the 9. He's more of a technical center back. I don't think it would be too big of a deal. I'm not too worried about it. So the credits, the timeline, the place of the injury, this is just an unfortunate ending to a very, very good career year. So you said 6 to 8 weeks there. We got 6 weeks to the Concacaf nations. If I do the math, even if he were to come back, it doesn't leave much time to get in shape. Here's my worry. It's his arm. You can get in shape. Okay. Okay. You know better than I. I would assume it's tougher to stay in shape when you got a fractured arm, but regardless, if he does, if he's not ready, herc, let's say he's not ready. I don't think that's too much of a stretch. No. I think that might have an impact on his future because he's of the age where at least the fan base and maybe even the new manager when you think of Tim ream, you kind of have to project out to the World Cup. Don't you? And at some point, especially if somebody like in the nation's league, which is averse, comes in and plays that position well, then the coach has a headache, right? Even if Tim ream continues on with Fulham, you kind of at some point need to refresh that position, don't you? Absolutely. And the majority of fans won't be in this train of thought. But it's so funny to me because Tim ream in the eyes of many is like the exception to the rule. Before is like, you have to plan for the World Cup. The workups three years out. Tim reims kind of the exception for a majority of fans because of how well he did and because of his leadership qualities. With this very young team, if you look at a player like Tim ream, let's say the next coach comes in. And he says, I need a very athletic bank. A very athletic duo at the center back position. Tim Reeves on this are going to be that guy, even though that's what Greg berhalter told us, his position in the center back position required because that's what he said about the emission to John Anthony Brooks why he couldn't play because he can't play in a high back line. He's not athletic enough. He used Tim ream there and Tim ream won himself that spot won himself the respect and credit of the general public, but I'm with you if you're talking about down the road, the probabilities of a 38 year old Tim ream being your center back one or CB two in a World Cup are limited. But you still need somebody there to hand off the torch to the next. You still just need somebody there to lead this younger generation and maybe center backs like a cramming Carter Vickers, like an Austin trustee, like a who else would you like their that I'm forgetting right now. Mark Mackenzie, things like that. Those type of players, you want them to learn from a player like Tim ream. Yeah. To your point about the great season has had, you could hear in the postgame interview from the manager Marco Silva, just how heartbreaking it was for him to lose to me. And then you saw it from the fans there as well. They gave him an ovation as he walked off. I think they knew it was probably a serious injury, potentially season ending. So massive season for Tim ream at Fulham, and we wish him a speedy recovery. My only one of my two male koopas and my punching two history. You have been wrong a time or two. I've only done I've only done two male koopas and he's one of them. The other one is Jim curtain. Okay. You mentioned Mark McKenzie. Well done. Because we have to run it back with

"Iran, I did the third World Cup finish. Et cetera, et cetera, his bad man management, everything that happened at the symposium, the leadership symposium, what Johnny ray et cetera, et cetera, John Anthony Brooks saw that went down Weston McKinney in that protocol, all this other stuff. Let me give you the other side of that coin. Can you imagine the first time if he's back? The first time he has a camp. The circus surrounding everything that would happen with Greg burr halter. The scrutiny for Greg bureau halter for the players, the time that he has to call Giovanni Reina up because you're not gonna knock on, you're not going to not call up one of your players. Of course. You're gonna call Giovanni reign up. What that would be like for him. Four Giovanni Reina, for the pool of players, it's a terrible idea. Now, I ask myself why Christian Pulisic would say this. Christian Pulisic is a player that needs to be loved. You saw it there in the Montage. Greg burter valued him, made him a captain, a lot of games showed him that love, and trusted in him that faith of being a leader on the team, he had in Greg berhalter, coach who believed in him, something that he's not had at Chelsea with Frank Lampard with Thomas Tuchel, certainly with Graham Potter. The majority of it's always something with the coach in Chelsea. It's always something, okay? He found in Greg berhalter, somebody who believed him. So I understand why he would go out there and back him the no doubt in my mind. A little tough to hear given the circumstances, but I could see an empathize with why he would say that. So I've heard you many times saying, just like now, why you don't believe Gerber holder should be back, right? When I listened to Christian Pulisic, maybe the fact the way he's saying it should give us an idea how the players feel about working with Greg Berg holder and Anne that everything as grand said during their interview. Those gains, right? Those gains that because you all the results and all the steps. Yeah, they were not great, but they were not bad. So there were some things that were achieved under Greg berhalter. Don't you believe that the fact that players like him players like working with them should also be a factor when choosing the new manager for the team? No, the biggest factor should be who can help you win. Who can help you transcend? Who can help you get better? Who can help you take your game and elevate it to the next level, not who you feel comfortable with. The reality is Christian Pulisic is backing Greg berhalter in this clearly, yeah. It's not that the player pool is backing Greg burr Holter. That's what he speaks for to players. No, no, no. He speaks for you. Listen. Do you think he speaks for children right now? I mean, not gia, but many other players. And by the way, by the way, you don't think about those many other players really quickly. Per the athletic,

"Check in on some other Americans in Europe. John Brooks. Who's back in the moon dislike with hoffenheim, he started played 90 minutes in a four one loss. Over the weekend, got a deal through the summer of 2024 her. He's only 30 years old. And he was, of course, left out of the World Cup squad by Greg berhalter, but do you think he still has a role with the national team moving forward? Listen, Tim ream had made me question everything I thought about age when it comes to this U.S. men's national team. Tim ream that pretty much played the same amount of time in the last year as John Anthony Brooks with the U.S. men's national team and per Greg berhalter was in the same boat being too slow and not athletic enough to manage a high line and yet he made it to the World Cup and he was one of the better players at the World Cup so I'm not discounting John Anthony Brooks making a run for 2026. Brooke stayed straight into the fire against gladbach over the weekend. Playing against Joe scalley and Borussia monchengladbach. They end up beating half and home again by the final score of four to one. More transfer news. Actually, kind of free agency news here, really. Sean Johnson signing with Toronto FC is a free agent. The U.S. international, of course, spent the last 6 seasons with New York City SC where he won an MLS cup also was MLS cup MVP in 2000. And 21, Johnson apart of the U.S. World Cup team at the last World Cup. In Qatar, the 33 year old now playing for bob Bradley and Toronto FC. Diego Linus returns to Mexico, her joining us on loan from albes, the 22 year old Mexican international on a one year loan this after missing out on the World Cup. After he failed to catch on at albeit these in Spain or but I got in Portugal following that big money move from gluba America, he will reportedly earn 2 million pesos a month, that makes him the highest paid

"I don't know. I don't know if he's ready to go. Then an international coach, do you think it fits his stuff? What are his club titles? No, he's got no time. But he's got much more experience there, at least there's more data to evaluate. So he's got no club titles, but he's got more international experience. More data. I don't know how it attractive he'd be for other for other entities like a Bundesliga or an era de vizier or premiere, whatever you want to whatever the case may be. What I can tell you is pretty evident that Greg burr halter may be very keen on this. He bent over backwards during the World Cup qualifying process to a lot of these European clubs. When the sporting director of wilsberg spoke out against John Anthony Brooks, he took him for his work. When Gio reyna was heard at Dortmund and they didn't want him to play much, he did the same thing. When Thomas Tuchel was worried about Christian political participation with the U.S. miss Nash team, there goes Greg berhalter again, bendy over backwards for these clubs. He's obviously tried to maintain and nourish these relationships. For what? Well, if you're angling at a job, there it is. Okay, so what are the kind of things that was said at the very beginning of berhalter's tenure? Actually, Carlos Cordero was still in charge. He talked about the style that Greg berhalter would bring to this team. And I think beyond that, there was this idea that Greg berhalter and this young group of players could change the way that the world views American soccer. I want to get Jeff's opinion on that. I want to get hurt your opinion on that. But first of all, let's hear an exchange with Virgil van DIJK from his press conference earlier today with a journalist that might just kind of inform us on what the rest of the world thinks. "But obviously he learned a ton in that experience and so I think the point is that Greg Bert knows what he's getting into and it's very much kind of on his bucket list to get back to Europe. So again, we'll see what jobs open up. We'll see how long he's willing to wait. And then he can take it from there. That assuming that he decides that he does not want to continue with the USSF. So there's some things in motion here. There's some moving pieces. And again, we'll just have to wait and see how it shakes up. What do you think? Is he ready for a European coaching gig hurk? Sure. It's a wide net. I don't know. I don't know if he's ready to go. Then an international coach, do you think it fits his stuff? What are his club titles? No, he's got no time. "So again, I think the focus is on how Matt has improved. And the job Matt's done over the course of the period. Let's talk forwards, not just because I got one on set with me. And we'll start here, I guess with the guys that were left out too, because there was a lot of choices for you. In the end, it's Ricardo Pepe and Jordan peacock who were kind of the odd men out. What went into those choices? Ricardo was another tough one based on his body of work and qualifying, scoring three goals for us, some big goals, two against Jamaica, one in Honduras. And watching watching him every week and grown again, thinking about the opponents that we have, we think that the other guys will be better suited. And it is a type of a scenario where we don't have time. We have a week before our first game and we're playing against very physical opponents and we chose the other ones. Let's talk about a guy who did make a list. Right. Back in June, he played for you in the concatenations league and you said publicly that he didn't do enough to take advantage of that opportunity. What has he shown you to prove that he's done enough gold baby? Exactly. I think that was a case where we were hoping Haji was going to play in that game and crush it and have a hat trick. He didn't do it. The message to him after that camp was, listen, now it's going to be about what you're doing with your club. And he's in a good league. He's second leading goal scorer in that league, and he's scoring goals weekly. Here's one of them right now. And Talia spore in turkey where he's lighting up. I think he's second only though who enter Valencia in terms of the Golden Boot there in turkey. You spoke about Azure by scoring goals, Ricardo Pepe. He's another man who's scoring goals. I mean, what was it about Ricardo Pepe, who had a built in equity with you that you said, you know what? He's the man right now. Again, I don't think in our eyes we weren't we weren't comparing Haji to Ricardo. We were comparing Haji to Jordan. Physically. Joining people. Yeah, more physical. We wanted one profile to be a physical presence. Okay. And with peppy, it was coming down to we were comparing him more to Jesus and we thought that Jesus, which one of them can fit more into what we do. And that's what it came down to. Do you have three different profiles of the forwards you need? We think we do. The physical striker, goal scorer, counterattack, in hajji and being underscore on crosses. Josh is kind of a hybrid between Jesus and Haji. And he plays in England, he's very familiar with the opponents there. And we think that's going to be an advantage for us. And then with Jesus, we have the playmaker, the defender, he does a bit of everything. So in goalie, you got you started, that's not going to be a position that you do by committee. With striker, I feel like it could be. Is it this guy is my number one at the number 9? Or is it a rotation? Is it hot hand? Yeah, I think it could be something like that. We have in mind, but I don't think anything cemented there. We're going to have to see what they do with their game time and how effective they are given the game plan. What's the profile of the striker you're looking for against wells? Yeah. So we have a clear idea of what we're looking for against wells and you have to wait until the 21st. Everybody watching from Wales turn it off right now. Garrett bell. Let's talk defense. Kind of last in our rundown here. Tim Reid, man, it is a name that surprised a lot of people just one appearance in World Cup qualifying. It was way back at the beginning, September of 2000 and 21. What pushed him over the line for you? Yeah. I hate to do this now, but every time, you know, we got to bring something back, right? So Tim ream just played against man city. Right. And after the game, Gordon walks up to him and says, if you were 24, you'd be playing for me. If you were 24 instead of 34. 35. So why don't you say why don't people see Tim ream like that? What Tim said is it's too bad. He goes, I'm not 34. I'm 35. But it reminds me of a conversation that we had her years ago. And when I was telling you about how good of a passer Tim Reid is on the ball. And what I'm really happy is is that this is a player that got another opportunity to play in the Premier League. Right. Because you never know when that's going to come again. And he's really taken advantage of that. You know, speaking to the coaching staff, watching his games, you know, he's one of the most important defenders for Fulham, and he's having a great season. Over the summer, you came on our show, football Americas, and I asked you about the absence to John Anthony Brooks, and you said one of the biggest reasons John Anthony Brooks isn't with us or hasn't been with us is 'cause he can't play in a high line, a defensive high line. Tim reem necessarily, that's not as strong suit. So are we changing the approach of how the U.S. national team will defend? I don't think so. Just watching Fulham. Tim's doing it. He's defending with a lot of space behind him. His positioning while attacking has been really good. And listen, there's no hiding that he has some weaknesses as well. But it's how do we how do we put him in position to succeed? And I think with Anthony Robinson, they are playing with him every week. You're not decent position to cover. You know, I don't think we can talk about center backs without acknowledging the injuries and probably the whole roster really without acknowledging injuries. A guy that I think a lot of U.S. fans probably were holding your breath for was a guy like Chris Richards. When you looked at the injuries and this World Cup happening in the middle of this season, how much of a factor that play into your roster decisions and specifically with a guy like Richard. You're waiting, right? You almost desperately waiting trying to give him an extra day, extra hours just to get fit. You know, I talked to Chris almost every week. And we got updates daily from crystal palace on how he was progressing. And at the end of the day, when I called him and we had the conversation, you know, we both came to the same conclusion that it was just the time was running out and he just wasn't going to get there. And with him being out with miles Robinson being out, you know, it is true very physical center backs that we're going to be missing at this World Cup. And that's just part of it. It is next man up and Timmy's back in the picture now. The walker Zimmerman cam Carter Vickers was playing Champions League and then Aaron long should be able to get the job done. Miles Robinson Chris Richards, Luca de la Torres on the mend, obviously big players that have been injured western McKinney. There's a question political playing earlier. You must have been praying and putting them in bubble wrap. You know, there's that part of it, but there's also, you want the guys to go on the field and commit to playing because when you don't commit, that's when injuries happen. Right. And if it is in your back of the mind that you're going to get an injury, guess what? You'll probably get an injury. So I just want them to commit, do what they do what they're supposed to be doing with their clubs. And then we'll see what happens. All right, coach, we've taken up enough of your time. Thanks so much for joining us here on football. America's and we'll see you in katara, okay? Thank you guys. There he is. Greg, we're halter, U.S. men's national team manager. He gets around to applause from the fans here in Brooklyn.

"Looks like he's going to miss the World Cup ngolo kante. Looks like he's going to miss the World Cup. Huge names are dropping. And so the fact that you think it's going to be a big setback, I think it could be an advantage. The guys get a little break, they stay healthy, but if it is going to be a huge setback, that's a really big problem for the U.S. men's national team and maybe as well for the Liga mecci. The guys that are on the Mexican national team as well 'cause I'm looking at the names. It's not just long and Zimmerman. I mean Jesus Ferreira Paul areola they play later tonight. They could go out. Deandre yedlin, he's playing right now, enter Miami could go out. We'll bring you those highlights a little bit later on. Kellen Acosta with LAFC. I mean, even if they go to my last cup, it's one. Only three more games. Are you worried that this is going to be like a real big problem if these guys have to play? I am a little worried for the U.S. national team. And because the love of the playing field isn't level. And what I said earlier, everybody's on the same calendar in a normal World Cup. So the Europeans and the same calendar as if you play ligaments are just as you played MLS, et cetera, et cetera. Now they get to stay game level with sharpness. Imagine starting preseason. Anytime you see a precinct start and you see the first game, the second game, the third game, it's never as crisp. It's never as sharp. And you say, well, they've not really gotten their season form yet. They're still in pre season form. I'm a little afraid that we're going to see that leading into the World Cup with teams like the U.S. national team, teams like Mexico, where there are some elements of their squad that aren't European based. And there are some players that will be out of Matt fitness. So if this is a problem maybe for guys like Zimmerman and long, then I got to ask you like, who it benefits? Because I think everybody's hoping it's going to be Chris Richards, but the latest news out of Crystal Palace is going to be another week without playing. You know, start to add these weeks up, park, you do the math. It's going to be a rush for Chris Richards to get back in time for this World Cup and really be healthy. Let alone being playing in the Premier League and be up to any type of game rhythm. Is it somebody that's outside the picture? I know you've never been very high on Tim ream, but if the logic is, hey, the MLS guys aren't going to be playing at all. Here's a guy who's going to be playing captaining at the Premier League level all the way in the build up to the World Cup. That ought to help his case, or even a guy like John Brooks, who we know, I know it was against what a fourth tier team in the Portuguese cup, but he played a 120 minutes for Benfica over the weekend. The issue here is Greg berhalter's comments coming back to haunt him. He tends to contradict himself here. And he said it that if guys aren't playing, it's going to be a worry for him, and that's why he wants to do this camp. So if you have center backs who aren't playing or some that won't even be available at some point, regardless of how you want to play, it's about who you have available. So that tactical scheme of a high line may have to go out the window. And you may have to recall John Anthony Brooks. You may have to recall a Tim reem, who right now is playing. You may have to do things like that to get players like that available to you. So your competitive at this World Cup. Again, just to compare what Mexican fans think versus what U.S. fans think. Mexico fans very worried about their central defense, right? They would love to have a John Brooks Tim reen there was outside the list that you could call in if you needed to, right? There's a lot of jobs. Maybe not depth. There's a lot of options in this American pool. Just how deep it is, I guess we won't find out until the World Cup. A deep schedule hook of La Liga action coming for you on ESPN+

"I think if you can get John Anthony Brooks on a Tam deal, max Tam deal absolutely do that. If you consider offering him a DP contract, if that's what it took, he's limited in certain ways, right? The reasons that Greg berhalter didn't like him for the national team and said he kind of lacks the athleticism and open field defensive ability to play in a pressing system. But that's okay because the united only they press selectively, right? Like we've seen them press really successfully, but they don't it's not a pressing team. And anytime you get a center back with that kind of ability to distribute with that left foot, aerial dominance, it seems like if this is legit, and we're not saying it is. This is just some random dude sending us an email to a male bad question. If this is on the table, you're in Minnesota, and you have the ability to do it. I think you do it. There are reservations. Jonathan Brooks never handled heat very well. Like there's a reason why he was maybe the worst defender I've ever seen in the U.S., put on the field in qualifiers in Central America. Any time it's over 75°, he would wilt. And I would worry about that. But not enough to stop not enough to stop the signing. It would be, it would be kind of a home run of a deal for Minnesota at this point. He is not a random dude. His name is Nick. I don't even have a last name. That makes him not random. And my technical director kaylin Carr and my GM that toil, and I won't explain the orc charts and neither of you know who's boss and who's not between the two of you. They both sign off and say yes and therefore China Anthony Brooks is headed to Minnesota on a max Tam deal to close out the rest of the season. Let's finish out with this email. Jared and Milwaukee says inspired by Doyle's recent article, I had an alternate history question. So I believe Doyle, you did a piece last week where you put one club legend who has left the club back on their team for the rest of this season. Yes. Dwell on nodding his head as all podcasts, there's tend to do. I said yes. I said yes. If you could, so his question on alternate history is this. If you could extend dac mccart Dax mccarty stay on one team of his past, which would it be and he gives 2017 and 18 Red Bulls a Dax Tyler Adams pair is the platonic ideal of a double pivot. They win CCL, am I right? His other is 2011 timbers, Dax Chara duo behind valeri is the best midfield in Major League Soccer. Does it even matter where nagbe plays?

"But right now it seems like for all of us, it's ten through 6 that are truly with the opportunities from TFC up to Columbus rather than sneaking Atlanta into that convo. Shout out to Orlando who have kept themselves out of this conversation once again with the stoppage time winner through tesho accin de. Now back to back games, where tesho gets. They lose to, if they lose to Seattle on Wednesday, they're right back into the conversation though, aren't they? Don't do it. No, I'm just saying. They have to take care of business on Wednesday against the desperate Seattle team. Eh, I don't know. Atlanta's gonna lose in that game. There's a chance TFC drops points. I wouldn't be shocked if Orlando lost and still, we felt comfortable about them. And of course, a little over a week out from the open Cup final for Orlando city. Some other results to mention, or do you guys feel good about the east? I'm not holding you back here. Yep. I feel good. You don't want to write your name in sharpie next to any teams that are going to make the playoffs before I move on. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. All right, well let's close out in the mail back here. We didn't mention Minnesota. They're two one win over the Houston dynamo, a big win for them. Another big comeback. But this does bring us to our mailbag question, which is from Nick avid listener, great to meet some of us in St. Paul for the All-Star Game, and he says, with bake di bossy out for the season, which was the news that dropped over the course of the last week, there's been talk among Minnesota United fan base, about a possible move for John Anthony Brooks. I'm curious about your thoughts on this on the positive side. He is a free agent who needs playing time and wouldn't take up an international roster spot, but he's expensive would likely be a Tam player, which doesn't seem like a good idea for what's essentially a band aid signing. So what's your thoughts on one, the loss of deposit in two, this as a potential short term solution? To die hard time. Are you asking for me? Brooks fans. Yeah, kale? I would say, okay, kaylin, go. I mean, losing to bosses to bossy is huge. Because he's been really great for them in the back. And I'm not into going and making a shock signing, but for me, if you can get Jonathan Brooks in MLS as a center back, we've seen teams invest more heavily in center backs. Even up to the DP level. And I brought up miyazu coming back. We've looked at the way Zimmerman has been elevated to a DP. We'll see what happens with long, but for me, if you can go get John Anthony Brooks, that's a piece that would be fantastic for them. So I wouldn't look at it as just a one year signing, even when you look at his age, he's still, I think, what how old is he? 29 30. So I can't say ages because I don't have anyone to correct me. A great age. So yeah, for me, that would be a no brainer. If you could go get Johnny Brooks back in for them, it fits a need. They also want to push for playoffs. They could get them sooner than later. If they get them right now, I would say that absolutely. Yeah, click yes on that one. Doyle, do you mean, I guess the question is, is he the right guy? And then the other question would be how much would you commit to trying to be better this season to your long-term future?

I was told a couple months ago that there was no chance that Brooks wanted to come here for a max Tam deal. Things can change, but that was the stance as of a few months ago. It would be one of the teams that you could look into the future and say, would you spend a DP spot on a guy like John Anthony book? And a lot of teams, I would say no, the quakes I could see that happening. So I get that. And I think the bigger convo is what I want the quake suspended DP spot on the center back. Yes. But I think Brooks needs the game to be played in a certain way to maximize him. And if you don't have the coach in place, who you know wants to play that way, I wouldn't give him the contract today. I agree. I would just say if you're looking at their center backs now, yes, he is a DP. If you're looking at their squad period, he's a DP. But they're not going to win something this year, so what's the point? That's what I'm saying. And that's what I've said. So I agree, but I'm saying in this team, he is a DP. John Brooks is probably the best center back on a number of teams, if not the majority. So, I mean, at the end of the day, San Jose, they're not, they're not going to win anything. They're not going to compete for an cup this year. So I don't think you can really make moves until you've officially hit that reset button and you hire a coach with a long-term vision. At least not high

"I don't know that there's a ton of players that we're hearing busio. Obviously, was unavailable to be called in and then it's really you're talking about Joe scallion John Anthony Brooks, I think, are the two. And if they're not playing, if the assumption is that neither of them are high enough in the play right now, and the Jonathan Brooks conversations its own thing, which I think we can have, which is he has not performed for the U.S., I think he needs some specific parameters around him to be successful. I do actually think the players exist in the pool. Now that miles Robinson and walker Zimmerman have appeared at the level they can, which is to cover for the things he struggles with athletically and in space. If he's not a starter, then it seems like we're all there doesn't feel inclined to bring him in. And right now you look at the center back depth chart where he has enough pieces. Going into this camp. And so Jon Anthony Brooks has said it himself. I haven't performed at that level. I do think he should get an opportunity to go back into this group, but you don't take that risk in World Cup qualifying. And so if he's not needed because you have other options, and everyone else is available, then I think he's spending the next two, three months, not with the USM and team. So it's Mark McKinsey that's probably the name on this roster that you were talking about the fourth we're talking about before string center. What miles Robinson Mark is there in Chris Richard? So those guys are all ahead of him on the depth chart right now. Yeah, I think so. And I didn't think it would turn out this way. I still think that Brooks is left foot is. Tough to replicate in this group. And if you think back to the Nations League game against Honduras, he ended up setting up the only goal in that game with a neat little chip ball to the I forget who was making the might have been Shaq more who was overlapping on the far right and then pfo could heads at home. That's a nice ball. I do think other center backs in the pool can hit it, but I Brooks is the one I trust to hit it most. At the same time, I didn't think Brooks was good against Mexico in the nation's League final, and he was really pretty bad. Against Canada and then especially against Honduras in the September window. Bad to the point of being yanked at halftime. And by some arguments, he is the most talented center back in the pool. But I think David's argument is correct. He hasn't shown that consistently at all with the U.S., especially in qualifiers. So forth on the depth chart, I'm okay with him not being there. I do wonder if there are other things going on. If you think back to even when he was a young guy, he didn't like being like coming off the bench. He didn't like being depth. I think Kyle beckerman mentioned it way back in 2014..

"Men's national team. And you think you're going to have more of the ball, you want to pass out of the back than maybe John Anthony Brooks comes into the team. He struggles going forward and back. Is athleticism, but he's the cleanest player on the ball. If not, maybe it's Mark McKenzie, but Mark McKenzie has been iffy defensively. And who does he partner with? And then you look at walker Zimmerman and his ability to just come forward and dominate in the air and chase players down in all those things. Richards can do all of that. And so I think Chris Richards, if he can elevate himself to a level to be able to play alongside miles Robinson, he can be a huge solution for the U.S. and he's such a young player that you want to give him opportunities to prove himself and to learn. What we've seen over the course of this cycle is Timothy way. I had an awful game against Panama and now he's the best player on the U.S. must national team. It takes some time. And these are learning experiences for these players. So Chris Richards made sense, and I thought he was solid in this game. Most of what Mikel Antonio did was down the left and that's kind of what he's done in his three games for Jamaica. So I guess I could say that's what he always does. And Leon Bailey didn't really find that much space and credit to Anthony Robinson as well for kind of locking him down a couple of times. So I thought Richard's had a solid game with busio talked a little bit about him getting bypassed in midfield and the battles and all that stuff. I think busio is a guy in going back to this is concave Franco qualifying. It's a crappy field in Jamaica against javan Watson, who could be his father and everyone's playing super physical. I don't think this is a game for John Lucas. I don't know that it ever will be. Maybe he'll be good enough at the things he's great at to survive in a game like this, but I think with the options you have for the U.S. because you're not looking at two guys, you could have gone with kamikaze. You could go with Sebastian legit, obviously if mckenney's healthy, he's an option, Christian rolled on. Hasn't gotten a start in the entire tournament. And he's one of the best central midfielders in Major League Soccer. You do have other options for guys who I would say fit this game better. But at the same time, I think if you go into Europe and you play someone, you know, if you play Germany, the busio maybe is the better player for a game like that. So I think it was a tough situation. He got put in. But everything Greg berhalter has said over the last ten days is he believes busio is a key part of what this team can be..

"Energy for Tuesday. Another big match night in Concacaf. Is this the right decision? By Greg, we're halter. It seemed like it after that saving the first time. It was a trickier thing. I think it was. It was Chucky, had that fantastic opportunity there. And you saw some of those dangerous counters. And I thought, for sure, when I was seeing that counteract all right, guaranteed opportunity right here for Mickey to get a goal here. And as we see right there, even Edson Alvarez had an opportunity early on. I didn't think that AdSense would have an opportunity on target here, but really tested here. I thought maybe that would be the opportunity for me to grow up one nothing, but well done to him because it was incredibly impressive. And I was also, I mean, I don't know the exact details about the difference between Stefan and Turner. I know that Turner has been a little bit more informed. I know that Stefan has had nearly as many minutes, but it seemed like it was the right it was the right opportunity here to give him the chance here and really stepped up. Do we think he'll rotate back? Or do we think this is it? I don't know that this is it. I don't think it's that type of situation with. I'm just saying for the time being. I'm not saying forever, but I'm saying for the foreseeable time. I guess my point would be, I think he starts against Jamaica. I don't think that guarantees him to start in the first game in January. Should ever be, yeah, like a first guaranteed. I do think he is preferred by burr halter. I think berhalter prefers him. And I think I understand that. I think there are some things where because we're not seeing Zac as much, you forget the ability that he has to make those types of saves. And that he is, I think, an elite shot stopper. And then I always felt the biggest difference is the way burr halter wants to play, which is with the ball at the goalkeepers feet to be able to play out of pressure at times. They got into trouble. I can think of one time where the U.S. got into trouble trying to build out of the back. But otherwise, Zack made you actually played long quite a bit a little bit safe more than anything, which I think from the team perspective was something that was very clear after what had happened in the past early in matches, especially against Mexico and just kind of being a little bit more pragmatic at times, but then also when there were opportunities they did try to build. So I think he was I think he is preferred by burr halter and I think right now, performances like this, back up reasons why. I also think the personnel matters a lot and walker Zimmerman and miles Robinson just aren't really comfortable on the ball. And in a game like this, you can see it, maybe if Chris Richards is your lockdown starter and John Anthony Brooks is in and out. Maybe that changes things a little, right? You can trust them to play out of the back. You can just have Turner play quickly when they split wide. And he's less needed in possession, but this game was multiple times where Zimmerman was in a call to sack and it was, okay, just hit a long ball down the line or play it back to Stefan and Stephan had some really good moments. He broke lines on the ground one time under pressure straight up the middle of the field in a really good moment..

"What is what what you bunch them just coming into camp next camp they come in so genial desk place. Three league games. Let's say and then you bench them. I mean yeah. The that's the way that's the way it has to be it. You have to do it for the national team when when you come play here you can't be responsible for giving up a goal. A gain in happened tonight. Just sergeant is a is a primarily. Striker is bundesliga striker. He got benched. Yeah like fox he. He's in champions league with young boys. You got benched for an eighteen year old. Actually doing it. It's just. I don't. I don't think i don't think anyone is beyond that. You know like maybe tyler adams's because he's just so clearly so much better than any other option at the six But even that is like he. He proved it with the way he played so i. I don't think i i'm sorry. There can't be any sacred cows in this camp. Nobody nobody hears landon donovan in the twenty ten cycle. Where you're like okay. He's not performing for his club or he had a rough half versus. You know mexico know but it's land in. We know he's still going to be the best player throughout this cycle. Nobody has that bread with this team. Not even christian pulisic so it. And i'm not saying that none of these players should ever be thrown in the trash. They're also talented. But at some point they have to back that up with performance for the national team in the guys you mentioned have not and so the they can't be automatic. Starters just can't and the same thing happened was stephan next. Seven plays for manchester city or doesn't play and matt turner out. Plato met turns a starter now as has to work so if if you look at anything of these last three matches to as well if you look up. The names and the clubs. They're associated with. It doesn't matter in any of this. That's kind of the big takeaway of these of concacaf. Qualifying is right and people tell you and you do and then you go out there. And you're saying okay. Andina har is the best player on the pitch like who cares. Benjamin he was getting dominated by debbie. Flores who was caught by the vancouver whitecaps yeah. It doesn't none of that alabama greek league. None of that stuff matters and i think even when we saw off the field with western being sent home or left out or whatever spend it. I don't know what the technical term would be for. But it's like there has to be that sense of accountability. Where if you don't track your man or you don't follow the rules. Whatever it is like if you start letting that stuff go Than you really have a bigger problem and so i think i agree. I also think that it is part of the part of the job of the manager to get the best out of your best player and to engage the best players. Because if you start throwing away. John anthony brooks are you start losing d you know desk or you starting your desk mccain. That's not..

"Mcbride to lean on and then bradley and dempsey had those guys to lean on and bocanegra and these players don't have but we're hosting the next world cup in the us canada and mexico and after that seems like an expanded one so this is kind of it for learning how to get through concha camp. Welcome qualifying kinda hate that right. Now i do too and it might be ugly and it has been ugly and it will be ugly but once these players come through. I don't believe this is a golden generation. And i believe every generation after this will have these players to lean on if they can find. Success in tonight was about that. I'll say this with the. I wish i. I wish that we still had those players to help some of these young players along and find their way and find their footing in take some of that leadership or tick that burden off of them. But i do think that we opened the show talking a little bit about that player. Pathway and understanding the structure in the environment of being where these players have been in professional environments at high pressure. Places for quite a while and that changes the dynamic. Quite a bit where you look you know. I think we talked to Ricardo peppy and i. I interviewed him in pass only talked about his story a lot. He chose it thirteen years old to leave his family in el paso to move to dallas to go play with two with the academy and lived with the academy system that takes the entire player pathway where it goes through the ucla on north texas and place. Their scores goals in the play. Offs plays against men. You know and then eventually gets his opportunity with the first. Cnn starts banging amend from there. So he he's really you know he's nineteen years it'll be. He's been playing as a professional left home since he was thirteen years old. Like so when you go into these environments he has that level of maturity. I also think he's a special kid and kind of has that personality of just like you know. We saw at the all star game score the game winning penalty. It sounds silly. But it's like whatever but but still like that for for a nineteen year old if you hadn't had some of those eighteen okay. Eighteen years old. Like that's still like. That's that's not a normal thing necessarily to be doing and i just feel that he has that sense of maturity. I think the same thing with brian. Nance when you talk to guys in philly about kind of what. He was like as a young player. Not afraid to dribble guys do his thing Express himself like that really. That personality is really what you need and the infrastructure around him has helped kind of platform. And and we're so it doesn't replace the know how of like you know you see the cbs where you got chuck in an dues in gooch in those guys like it doesn't replace the know how of some of those guys giving you that or being walking into a camp and seeing some establish names but it can help you to be able to be more ready than than players may be in the past. Half what's tired is being hyped about. Brendan aronson what's new is being hyped. Paxton aronson and the future is bright. Throw you magin. Both mental high level players. What's gregg berhalter supposed to do. When sergio deaths who plays for barcelona and john anthony brooks who the champions league starter and was arguably the best back in the bundesliga last year. Don't play well.

"Robinson you saw those plays can cover that ground himself. He's like they can erase any problem and make it almost easy when he gets to when it gets wide is just he has that ability and athleticism to get to cover that much ground so when you have a six and a number three or four sorry four or five that can play that position and cover ground and put out a fire. It allows you to really really press forward and know that you have a safety valve in the back. I agree with you guys. I also think this what adds to this. Is these three games. We now know. Miles robinson can be john. Anthony brooks in. The games at brooks doesn't play. That kellyn can play when tyler camp which. I don't think we knew a month ago. Like if tyler is out. I think you have to change the way your team played. You had to find cover and unfortunately tyler is probably gonna be out a bunch i. It's just the reality so far but you know that everyone's not gonna be able to play all three games and welcome qualifying. When that's the case brooks says well probably won't be able to come from europe and play three times miles robinson. One hundred percent can play with him. Now we know he can also play without him as that left center back if necessary and you could partner him with a mark mckenzie or whoever else walkers and if he's healthy whatever that is so you've notches created options with your best team but you've added depth and confidence in that deb. And i mean you look at this stu senate on the broadcast but he was part of a beasley c team that went to a gold cup final and they lost the mexico five zero. We beat mexico now. I'm not saying today that. This is the deepest pools ever been but it shows a level of depth in the pool to be able to compete across the summer in these different ways. And that wasn't something we were sure of. Because a lot of these guys were unproven. Sam vines. I think showed he could play at this level shack. Moore's been good so now you've added two or three options to the full back position. So that's been a huge part. I think for gregg berhalter of what he's found out this summer all right. Let's just get into it because we look ahead here and it's good to evaluate what these guys did in this tournament and the tournaments over and we want it champion. Us means absolutely seventh of all time. Go forgotten it's nice to win a trophy in vegas like that is a. You're gonna win it all that's a nice place host the final. Charlie's taught us in the past that when you go play vinyl you play final in vegas. You need to have that bottle service set before. It's not right behind all it's just proper preparation you just to be ready. He's gotta make sure you don't want to be looking at each other locker room. I hang well we bought to do we just one this. It's known we go to seven eleven or get a twelve pack. How do we go to the bomb at the hotel. That's not the way this works. Let's get let's get into matt. Turner start in the back matt turner. And here's the stats on him with the national team. He has seven games started. He's got six clean sheets. Seven wins and a goals against average of zero point. One four five of the winds have been one nothing. he makes. Spectacular saves repeatedly in this tournament game saving saves in this tournament. Where does he stand now. If you look ahead..

We're in a final and you're saying who can. I rely on and final and soccer fans to your to your pointless questioning. Alright well you guys have done it in different circumstances but we haven't seen it in a us kit altogether and if you go straight up the spine from the goalkeepers because all had both of them horvath Especially coming in. And then. John anthony brooks. I thought was immense in this game. Even though mark. Mckenzie and tim ream struggled on either side of him. You really was able to hold down for and then weston mckennie. I think was fantastic. I mean there were just a couple moments where i can almost see. He just has this kind of confidence about him. That i wasn't even sure. If i've seen him before. And i good is but he has confidence where he looks over at berhalter. A couple times in greg's like he almost looks like yeah i got you i got you and i'm like oh no he really does you know and like he has this sense of belief about him in the plays he was all over the pitch all night and got the most important on the on the header. That you and then the other header on the other header and then just tracking back everything and then g arena as well And then christian. Who didn't even have the best match but stepped up in the most important moment and when you look at him for spark dotto up that moment christian. I just love the way he even said like from going for it. Like i mean he's like i'm putting it top bins or whatever term. Used inside. I just love that like because there's so much pressure. Their champions league final winter champions league winner and he's saying okay. You know what you know. Who cares like. I'm just i'm going gonna just go do it my way and i just love that attitude. Kind of all the way through that from the big stars or the purported big stars team Found those moments. We'll go through the other guys who i thought were great but Through the up the spine right down the middle with our biggest players. I thought All stepped up in a big way and can match so you said spine and we beat to your point or doyle's about changing generations. I look at this game and memo chose thirty five right. Hector marino's thirty three. Gordo didn't start in. This game started the last game at thirty five. I'll try in his prime starting to exit a potentially thirty three thirty one thirty two. And then you flip over to the us and you're just talking about youth up those spots..
