A Prayer for Healthy Boundaries
"Prayer for healthy boundaries by debbie mcdaniel. Life is precious it all too often. We may find that much of our time is spent on negative toxic people draining the life right out of us sometimes their coworkers friends or sadly even family members god never intended for us to spin. Our wheels waste our days trying to make others happy. Who can never be happy because in reality. It doesn't depend on us. It's not up to you. They may want you to think it does as if he possessed the power to improve the value of their existence. But that's not a burden met for you to carry. God's greatest desires to set us free and sometimes what propels that change is for some brave soul to be willing to say. Stop no more one who will choose. What is better and learn to set. Boundaries that will protect limit control. An unhealthy person might be placing on another's life. Sadly when we look deep into the mirror of our souls we may realize that we are the ones who have some unhealthy tendencies. That god wants to change. Today's a day to stop wasting time and toxic patterns of living better in store for us. He can accomplish great pinks through your prayers. She can move. Mountains can change hearts. Anything is possible through his great power. Understand that though it is never up to you to make someone different. He set in their lives per purpose. For a reason he loves you. He cares for you and he has good in store for future. So if the sun sets you free you will be free. Indeed john eight thirty six.

This is something that was that the stat and I retweeted because I couldn't believe it off, you know, and it's really sad, but I'm going to just you know, hold on cuz I want to you know, this is something that just drives me nuts, but hold on there. I'm going to get to it as soon as I find it here. Where is it? Okay now get a load of this. All right. Okay, Richard. Are you there? Yeah, this is how much people got in other countries for their stimulus Relief Fund. You ready to hear this? Yeah, Australia off $1,993 a month, Canada $1,433 a month Denmark up to $3,288 a month France up to $7,575 a month Germany up 7300 $26,000.78 a month Ireland up to $1,793.44 a month. UK up to $3,084 a month United States 1200 in the last thirty two weeks and when I purchased country on Earth where the richest country on Earth but we're also the greediest country on Earth where we can always find money to give to the filthy rich, but there's just never enough to help the people at the box office and that's the problem that we have in this country. It's it's absolute sickening. You know, we've got people that are right now people are being evicted, you know, and and and and these jackasses in Washington DC don't know how to get along with each other and and we continue to elect people to positions of authority that absolutely I I don't give a shitt I come from West Virginia. She could have wrapped a piece of dogshit in the Trump napkin and these people would have voted for it. And that's where we're at right now in this country today and it's absolutely sickening, but I'm going to tell you we are struggling but here's the thing LED. Georgia, you know Kelly La Fleur, her net worth is five hundred million dollars her and her husband owned the friggin New York Stock Exchange. How the hell do they relate to anybody in Georgia any but I don't give a shitt if you're if you're if you're moderately wealthy and Georgia, you cannot relate to her. She doesn't know anything about your life. You know, we've got these people that were born with silver spoons in their asses and they've been upgraded to two diamond plated and and they're the ones that are winning. They're the they're the elected officials. I mean, we don't have nobody in Washington in a heap. Losi is no different. You know, she's got so much damn money. She don't know what it's like to struggle they've never in their life know when it was they they've never ate a friggin banana or mayonnaise sandwich in their frigging. But that's where we're at in this country. Well, thank God. I haven't either cuz I can't stand the sight of mayonnaise but I do eat bananas though Richard, but hold on a second. The thing that I really is irritating me now and this is Ivanka Trump and you know, I like, you know, it just I can't take.

"Like the whole it's like you feel good, you know, as soon as that as soon as the first couple I know it's come out, you know, it's see the thing. I love so much. I love so much about John Lennon. He was such a fantastic lyric writer if you think about it lyrics such as the song called imagine. It's such a simple lyric but it totally is hits the mark and two sums up who perfect but then I'm a song such as come together as an abstract lyric which I love and that is it later an influence on Lyricist such as Kurt Cobain Chris Cornell and also Scott Weiland you could tell they were very odd. Yeah. Well, I mean, I I mean so much the like the lyrics they take like a lyric like lithium by for instance Nirvana. It's all these random kind of yeah, there's stuff and that's obviously influenced by John Lennon and such in a lyric such as come together. But again come together was about coming together, you know over poor wage which is why hair down to you know, head down to his knees because of the day it was alleged that when you died they you know, like your hair keeps growing see. Yep. I always thought it was about the about the Maharishi. I thought that it was that it was not you know, but since it's all the lyrics are so all over the place. I mean, you don't really know you, you know, you know, there's some some things could be about you know, I mean, you know, they were really, you know, playing into the pole is dead thing. I mean and then there's also a lyric and come together where it says here comes all flat top becomes grown not blah blah blah that's supposedly influenced by certain Chuck Berry lyric, I forget the lyric but there's a Chuck Berry lyric that has a very similar thing that I think John Lennon kind of tipped his cap to with that lyric poem. Yeah, and then and then there's just that great story of Elton John had covered Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Yes. No, hold on. What was the first one Ellensburg covered? You know, I'm not too sure I could okay, but it doesn't matter then Elton John was going to cover another one. I don't know which came first and then And then you know John said it can cover it, but I don't know why you know do anything and then it said I'll tell you what if it goes to them one you got to write and perform a song with me off and it did go to know it did go to number one and that's why they did. You know Whatever Gets You Through the Night. Yeah. It's yeah and then they also John Lennon joined and John on stage at Madison Square Garden and that was sadly the last full public performance that John Lennon really really ever did I believe it was in seventy-four I think and they also did I saw her standing there which was then the B side later of the song Philadelphia Freedom that single by Elton John, I believe that was the B-side was that was that live recording from that night? Oh, wow. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. I mean, you know, you know John was awesome man. And it's it's so sad and and you know, it's hard to believe Greg. It's it's been forty years, man. Yeah. I can't believe a game. You know it definitely yeah and get just as you get older time goes very fast at just what it is. But you know a little funny anecdote that when my first child was born I said, you know, he was colicky and I had to like, you know, I would you know walk around the apartment and try and put him to bed and and I used to play Double Fantasy. It would sleep for every John Lennon song and then wake up crying for every joke. Oh, that's funny. You know, I I I did a cover in my van did a cover of Strawberry Fields that was on it's on an album, but it's you could check it out on YouTube. It's like kind of a nerve on or off, you know Stuttering John version of Strawberry Fields. It's a grungy, you know, a strawberry fields. I think you liked it, you know. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, definitely off. Check that out. Yeah, I did it for a charity. I'm but you know, we always did Strawberry Fields on stage right cool. Yeah, and it was a great song but I also did a cover of Jesus Christ Superstar. Okay, and I did a cover of motorcycle mama. I know Neil Young know. Oh, okay. I don't even know the initial. I don't even know who thought you'd be the king of the highway my motorcycle Mama. You'll see the world from my Harley sounds like the Grateful Dead. It's probably not know like me like Allman Brothers or something. I don't know what I'll go on ahead kind of one. Yeah, cuz cuz I know that Neil Young had a song that's that's title for 1978 motorcycle. Yeah, but like we're always do like these like, you know, we make these songs become like hard rock songs and with birth. Faithfully from Journey. Okay. It was like a punk hard rock version cuz I never wanted to do like the exact You Know cover else then it's no, you know like you're not any any of your own right to be into it. But you know what like I could see there were probably running out of time. So let me just ask you a very quick question. I want to ask you give me one good Beetlejuice story that no one knows go ahead give it to us but Beetlejuice story. Well, thank you Shelly alters for the for the Super Chat and I'm not going to read what you said cuz it's a whole load of horseshit, you know a compete woman. There's like trolls the the the oddest one for me is it just would dress up like everything like Beetle King like Don King and everything he came to open with open for my show at in Atlantic City at one of the casinos. Pause and who was his his Wrangler was Shawn Shawn? Yeah. Yep, and we got a a wig like a long haired Brown. We want to put on Beetlejuice and then say welcome to the stage Stuttering John in real juice was going to come out as me. Okay, he would not wear that wig and he would not come out as Stuttering John.

There needs to be more of that and there needs to be at least that ability to say we came out three times and educated. You right you know. We did the stop three times. And i think we see it a lot especially in firearms. Everybody's looking for the quick reason to say we sees six guns. We'll see six guns from you. Know it was really the crime of the century there right and john. That's on a percent and the thing about it and we call it community oriented policing and some buzzword right now in the nation with all of the defend the police with the situation that happened in minnesota. You know immense cova and everything else we're dealing with you know. Law enforcement is in a real negative light right now because we You know the public isn't really seeing the community oriented policing model that really nationally is being pushed everywhere and it's not just for police departments sheriffs departments. You hit it on the head when we started game wardens that are by themselves if we can't work with respect and communicate with people and you know the biggest weapon is our mouth in our mind we call it. Verbal judo right. I have gotten out of so many violent confrontations alone with nothing. But maybe my patrol lab in the truck up against ten eleven guys. Sometimes i mean irate. I'm having to kick him out of an area. They're not supposed to be in. Maybe they're liquor up you know maybe you've got some gang affiliations than we've got the cartel element but just by using some respect fair but firm competent in your stance confident with your tools. They see that. But you're not coming in with that coming in with you know. Is this a criminal doing something. That's really gonna hurt the public or is this an honest mistake. That can be corrected to your point. Can we talk about an educate. And that's something. We've had to look about in cannabis enforcement is we've thrown all these regulations out. "Have a lot of resources grown up and we had some pretty rough times on the oldest of four and you know not not putting us a sob story bad country song out there but we grew up with little resources with a lot of imagination so we were always in the outdoors so my direction was to go into a career. Be the first to go to college in the family and get something that would support the family. That would make us more comfortable safe job safe job. You know even though inside like you. I'm just. I mean. I'm passionate about everything i do. I overdo ending. And so the more time i spent in the outdoors. I think it was really like almost divine intervention. You're right. It shows me because being a game warden if you really a dedicated one. It's not a job. It's just it's a lifestyle you know we talk about how impactful it is on the family because unlike a sheriff for a police officer that goes to a shift gets a car checked out of a a lot goes debriefing desert shift and goes home. We take vehicles home we customize them. We have an office out of our house. We're on call. Twenty four seven to be connected to our districts and stuff that can happen twenty four seven in a game world. So you really are. You're you're a vital part the outdoor community within the community. You live in so you your family you have to be ready for a very untraditional job. It's passion. It's not a high paying job which you know none of us got into it for. We went for the relevance of it. Yeah you're not going to get rich. But there is a lot of fulfillment in in that kind of gig You know i think I think it's that ability to create when you're out in the field the ability to kind of you form your own day is the freedom and try to get at especially with folks as whereas the aha moment that you felt. This was the way because we come across so many crossroads in life. When you look back. I can't take full credit for this because this is a little bit of jacquard. Every story starts out with mangoes on a journey right so mangoes on this journey in before he can find his perfect or perfect this. He has to find himself right. So you've the career finds you or you find the career. There's a mixture of the two you start not doing. What's for money and you start doing what you love and when you find what you love. That's what leads to the passion to write a book to be able to pursue the career paths that you pursued to be so passionate about it that all these things ring true. There's a lot of people out there. John that get into things that they enjoy but they don't love them not willing to write about them not willing to talk about the not willing to travel and do podcast and do all these different things about it. When you find that. It's really something special and you can see it in you the way you talk about it in the way you feel about it in the way you convey that message. And that's what's really important. And i hope we all hope everybody finds something like that in their life you found it and made a career out of it. What advice do you give people..

Thank you oh you mean. I could just have a reese's peanut butter cup. I could just have one so you're into what you WANNA do with this money. Is You want to do something very slightly transgressive. Maybe maybe it's like man. I haven't had orange soda in a long time and I would like to have ripe to leaders of Orange Soda or fourteen liters of Orange Soda and you just you go all went. Oh I just. I don't know why I had this idea but I think this is very good. You GotTa go you gotTa Take Your piggy-bank break it open. Go to the cornstarch get that money take that money to the place where they sell plants. And you'RE GONNA buy the most expensive plant you can buy with this so probably a small cactus and then you will take that small cactus and you will leave it on a stranger's doorstep and they will see it and they will think I've been and given a small cactus and then that will inform their entire day possibly week maybe year maybe whole life. This strange cactus that appeared in their life. And you know that you won't know how it affected them you don't know if they just threw it away. Or if they like had to take care of this cactus their whole life but you can think about it and you can know that in that one way you. A stranger have changed that other person a stranger. I like that idea. But I think I would still probably get fudge rounds do of drown and saw I mean just you saying the words drown their taste fudge rounds it was like a Pavlovian response. And I haven't had a fudge around in a solid twenty the years and now I know what I'm doing after we make the podcast but we have to answer this vitally important question from Oran not your son. Although I'm like your son this question made me feel very old dear John and Hank. What are the noises that landlines make when you dial the phone number of like those different pitches for each number? Do they actually mean anything on the teen but I know it a landline. Warren barely weighed wait. Wait all all they know is what a landline is. They don't know. Oh God I mean even growing up. I didn't know at the noises. Were four well so we had a rotary phone when you were very little. Yeah and the rotary phone would make a certain number of clicks depending on what number you dialed in and literally dialed it. Instead of just pushing a button right then that number of clicks would connected to certain other number basically with the advent of touch pad telephones. Yeah they call them touch tone phones they used to. They used used different tones to achieve that same goal. Which is why there were people? When Hank and I were a kid who would they were one kid who would have very good pitch and would basically be able to trick the phone company into dialing whatever number are they wanted to? Yeah and also there were noises that your phone can't make but other phone but like other devices can to talk to the computer and they would figure out how to make those noises that your phone can't make but that influence the computer at. At and T.. Or wherever are and then they would use that knowledge to basically make free long distance calls. Yeah which at the time you WanNa talk about transgressive free long distance calls. Oh my God I mean wow it fell like a whole world was open to you. Yeah I I suspect. Orrin is not familiar with the idea of a domestic long distance. Phone call one eight hundred call. Att Oh man. I dialed one eight hundred call. At a lot and that was the that was the cheap crank. Yeah somewhat low-quality connection so that you could get the discount rate of ten cents a minute. Oh Gosh I had to completely not realized allies until you said it that. Dial when you're dialing a phone we still say that we still say you're going to dial the number but it was because there was a dial yeah like an actual dial. Yeah which reminds me that.

"Director Jeff Reiner says that when he first met Alex Cunningham conversation focused on the series point of view, and how to transcend the conventions of straight thriller. The normal approach to this material would be thriller where women's looking over his shoulder. And that's not something that outs interested in. We're interested in kind of deconstructing and tone from different points of view, the most striking shift in front of you comes in episode seven, which is told from John man's perspective. Here's Eric Bana. Who plays me hand describing it. We get to see what he was doing for an hour before mating. Deborah on that I that we enjoyed an episode one. We get to see what he was doing just before stealing the drugs that he was ministering to a patient. We get to see how many women he was coaling before he called Deborah the first time on that. You know? So it was a pretty rocus forty idea for an episode that you know, we tried to have some fun with as well. And we realize that for those people. Blue. Embrace the dock Huma that there was a lot in seven. He's he's of a in the middle of the desert being rejected by the women and packing flagger into his pocket and doing drugs, and it's just and we seem lying we say on the fun long to papal one of the things I loved about Savin was Joan being on his I this. And I was one of the things that fascinated me about these. Character was. Which you know, we you allude to a little bit. When you play the the audio from the weddings that he had no Frayn's which really fascinating because some people climb to be lawn bowls climb to be alone as and stuff, but Jones was true Lona in amongst PayPal Reiner. The director told me spent a lot of time thinking about Travis Bickel, the violent loaner from Scorsese's taxi driver Reiner is also a fan of the director Billy wilder and the darkly comic tone. He brought the classic Noir films, like Sunset Boulevard and double indemnity. So totally I had to make sure that there was a sense of humor, which quite alsi. I got from you from your from your the the tone in which you read it. I don't know if it was purposeful or not. But I always felt like there was this slight ironic kind of take the material the real life. John me Han was a conman and a sadist who. Hurt more people than we'll probably ever know a creature of malevolent, so pure, it's hard to think of analogs in my long experience of writing about very bad people, but nobody on the dirty John series thought it would be interesting to portray him as glowering paper machine villain. So he had to be charming in the Ed to be funny in the ETA be even in his evil had to be somewhat funny. Yeah. There is his character. Who might think he's in a Scorsese movie or he might think he's an ultimate villain. And so that will dictate what he says. And what he does, you know, there's a scene where he goes to meet Toby to door and Toby calls him out for being a liar. And I don't have to take four told Eric to eat a sandwich while while he's doing it. So there was this kind of cavalier attitude, you know, when he's telling him, he's kind of tell him all this dark stuff, you know, he's chomping on a sandwich. So to me it just gave. The character like that scene Cillian nonchalance to like his evilness, which makes it even more evil. And but it does make it somewhat darkly funny. So it also he's he's a predator having a meal. Yeah. Well, I never thought of that fanatically. But you're right. I mean, let us film school students or rent that they might get as a. I think it's easy for people to be judgmental because I like to think that they want to sign mistakes. But I always come back to Hammy times have you. And you lot rehearsed something in your head about how you going to deal with someone that you level height. You go through that script site tomorrow. This is what I'm going to deal with these family member Sunday at lunchtime. If they do that guy. This is what I'm going to say and then on the day sitting across the table from that post you looking in their eyes and those words never come at. They never ever come at. Because when you're in the presence of someone changes, everything there are probably actors out there. And I think Eric would say this himself who have. To love the people they're playing I don't think Eric got into acting for that. This is Alex Cunningham, the show runner Eric got into acting to play people who are not him and to inhabit them and walk them around and show people why they're interesting, and I think because of that he's not trying to make you love John at it actually makes John much more real is magnetic and charismatic in the way that I have to imagine that John was for a lot of people in the way that there are so many things on television shows and also in real life were you I find myself going, you know, if somebody just asked one question, this wouldn't have happened. Why did they not ask that one question? And when you get around someone like, Eric even in real life. You can see how someone would choose the not ask that question that they don't they don't want to break the spell, or whatever I asked ban away. Whether he thought they were any parallels between John me, Han con artist and chameleon and the craft of an actor. I was semi worried that he'd take offense. I was mistaken. Oh, absolutely, absolutely. Is not a whole lot of difference. In fact, four show, you know, this definite parallels. He's could you said he was constantly grabbing a different mask for every person. And I think that's what that's what way too. I think you know, we're kind of Khakassiya looking skin in the mosque. Every time we go go to work. Selfishly taking whatever bits and pieces we need from anyone that we love will hate mercilus. So now in many respects with just a more respectable version of some of these behind carcasses. Yeah. Whatever is necessary keying brine hot. Yeah. faitH' physical anything. Later that day down the block, I watched the filming of the violent Clem attic parking lot confrontation between John me, Han and Tara Newell Anna and Julia garner who plays Tara stood nearby. Stunt doubles dressed exactly like them ran through the carefully choreographed knife attack over and over. We all watched as Kipi the stunt dog playing cash the miniature Australian shepherd or the stuntman pant leg to shreds when the stunt doubles were done than and garner came on to do it themselves. It was disturbing to watch garner looking small and overmatched Anna looking huge his face contorted with rage. Banna told me he sometimes feels affectionate toward characters he plays. But in this case, it's more complicated. And he's looking forward to forgetting how to think like John me Han, I think with these character. What's been different is? I just terrible. It does make me feel duty. You know, it does I do not and feel a little like I don't wanna make contact with a lot of women. You opening Niro pathways. When you applying these characters that Mike lying and deceiving and pretending on a different level to how you normally would as a person..

"Australia as a comedian Jeffrey Reiner who directed all eight episodes of thirty John told Bana, I want you to make me laugh every day on set. We should. Feel the first step aside that any woman would be very happy to babies company, and that there's nothing really they to sit alarm bells and Scifo. So it was about just making him first and foremost completely believable in real and somewhat lockable in the beginning as well. So I decided that it would be interesting to show a very juvenile side of John because the wine Turpin lot of the behavior was like remind me of kind of Tena elect, not even pray apprai- tain child who wasn't in control of of himself. And so decided to to incorporate some of that in the performance, which you know, you probably saying the lighter episodes, John me Henin real life like to adopt a tone of almost theatrical menace when he wanted to frighten people he told them to pray hard to enjoy their time left on earth and so forth. It was as if he took a ton. Guy. Halloween mask off the shelf. It wasn't a very good. Rod. So these. He's he's like the worst bad guy of like some of the stuff that will come out of math. I've tried to lane into that. I like the fact that this guy kind of thinks he's a bad guy. Got these gangs to age, and he's just he's like a bad caricature. At a fellas movie. He's the guy that's trying really hard. That would have been kicked out, you know, in the first two hours out of the cod room, and that's kind of funding to to notch. To not shy from into comedy, Bryce. A lot of people make grand resolutions for the new year. And we all know how well that usually works out stand out from the crowd, don't wait until some arbitrary.

"From the LA times. And wondering I'm Chris offered. And this is a special episode of thirty John. On the morning. I'm supposed to interview Eric Bana who plays John Mehan and the new Bravo series and tried to distract myself with the newspaper, crossword puzzle. It so happens that sixty five across is a four letter word with the clue Vana of hulk. This is a reference to ban is role in an lease brooding Accenture two thousand three film about the marvel character Anna told me that people rarely ask him about that movie. If he's in an airport for some reason people ask about Black Hawk Down women will often ask about the time. Traveler's wife, sometimes it's Munich in which he plays a massad agent ban. His breakout role was in the Australian crime drama chopper in two thousand he played chopper. Read a homicidal real life. Gangster who manages to be funny and terrifying all at once. It was one of the roles on the mine of Alex Cunningham, the lead writer and executive producer of dirty, John when she suggested Bana for the Mehan role. I think ciampa was far more. Methodical and made a lot more sense to meet than John letting John's much scarier mascara think he's very Radic. And I think radicchio the scariest behavior in someone. But we absolutely felt that if we'd opportunity to get Erik batte we wanted to go get him. This is Richard suckle who is an executive producer of the show suckle has produced films, like American hustle and wonder woman, and the TV show twelve monkeys, but this is first foray into limited series television. He tells me about meeting Bana in March of this year suckle and show runner. Alex Cunningham went to have drinks with Bana who is in town promoting film. We went over to an had drinks with him at the Lerma Taj hotel on Burton way in Beverly Hills. Really he was interested in knowing exactly the way in which Alex was going to tell the series. You know, what she going to tell it in a linear fashion from beginning. Middle to end, how close was she going to stick to your podcast and the way you structure, the pod. Cast with the opening of the reveal that somebody's dead, but you don't know who's dead within days ban ahead committed even before the pilot script had been written. I worry that whoever ended up playing John Mehan would insist on softening him and try to make him redeemable and what TV executives like to call relatable. I thought the chances of this happening increased with the size of the star in the case of Bana. This worry proved to be unfounded. I asked on what he thought John me he told himself when he looked in the mirror. What explication he gave himself for his behavior which was at times, not just monstrous, but illogical and self defeating because I came to the conclusion that John didn't really know what he was doing. And once I came to that general conclusion things became a lot of as yet because I think it's human nightshift or us to try and come up with these perfect dances that explain people sign people are in therapy all locked and still work themselves out. So why the hell? Would I expect in the third person fourth second to come up with a version of John million that make sense when he himself wouldn't have nine what the hell he was doing? Or who he was a why he was that why this view of me Han extended to the question of whether he loved Deborah Newell. The one thing I felt as off as the fans is by really felt that Joan probably didn't really know himself, and once time to that thought that might things because I think people can go through the motions in a relationship, especially you know, social has a very adept at depth, as you know, you know, behavior that these the hybrid, I think they should be adapting to get what they NATO to appear normal while the paper and Saiful for years ban was best known in.
