Celebrating the connection with our pets, this is animal radio, featuring veterinarian doctor debby white, groomer Joey villani, news director Laurie Brooks, and now, from the red barn studios, here are your hosts. How a room's and Judy Francis and in just a few minutes anthro zoologist, which is apparently an emerging field. Anthro zoologist, John Bradshaw will be back with us, of course, he's written so many books. We've had him on for about each and every book that he's had. Last time he had him on, he told us that we could train our cats. I still haven't had any luck in that. Good luck with that. Yeah, they've trained us. His new book, the animals among us, how pets make us human. And he's going to talk about how it's just in our nature to love pets. And I want to find out why some animals are pets. Family members and with some animals are food. That's what I want to find out. I'm going to ask him about that. Also, we never asked him about his life and his animals. I want to know, he probably has a house full of animals, right? Yeah. He's got to do all that research. So I will ask that stupid question that I asked. Jackson. Jackson galaxy. Do you have cats? I will ask John. The obvious question. What animals do you have? And that's on the way in just a couple of minutes. Laurie, what are you working on? Well, there's another one of these cases in the news, and it's one of those cases that would just be your worst nightmare. Your dog is supposedly euthanized. By the vet, and then to find out months later that the animal is still alive. And in this case happened in New Jersey and we'll tell you all about it. Wait a second, didn't you just do you did this new story? Didn't you? I mean, I think that was Utah, though. You mean this has happened again? Again, again, yeah. Wow. It's kind of weird. I think probably most of us who are pet lovers probably tend to hold our animals as they're being euthanized, but apparently, I guess, well, it's doctor doctor Debbie. Maybe that's not done as often as we think it is. Oh, you need to be present is what you're saying from now on. You need to be present. We'll find out in just a few ideas. Which one are we going to Judy? We're going to go to line one. Pepper. What a pretty neat pepper. The music now, sir. Well, that's the person's name. Oh, it's the person. All right, well, it ruins that. Hi pepper, how are you? I'm fine, and I want to tell you, thank you so much for taking my call. Well, of course, with such a pretty name. How did you get the name pepper? I eat about 5 gallons of jalapeno peppers a week. Oh my. So it's not your name. The dog likes him too, huh? Now you don't have a regular name for the dog, do you? Well, I named him Casper because he's white. Okay. What's going on with Casper there? Well, I have two dogs. One is I have an ease and one is a bichon Casper. I had cast for about two years and I was making his own songs, which was ground Turkey, brown line, and on by the bag of frozen vegetables and put it in there and everything was going fine. I'm an over the road truck driver. Let me tell you that first. Okay. And all of a sudden he started getting like flatter infection kidney infection. One right after another. And I mean, it's not that I'm not taking him out and walking him. It's not that I'm not letting him walk long enough. I mean, every time I would go to the bed, it'd be like 354 $150 while they try to track this thing down. They treat it. They even went as far as to give me a prescription takes a Walgreens because he had to be on antibiotics for so long one time. Okay. And then you start chewing it as pause. And it's paused to turn pinkish looking and all around his mouth, real pinkish looking, and then he got another butter and thick. I take him back to the vet. He said, well, she goes, this just isn't right. Now this is when we were home, just about every weekend. So she did some investigating and she told me she said he needs to go. He's got a protein, a problem of simulating protein. And we need to put them on the urinary ISO. Okay. Well, I've got him on that, but I was just wondering if there is another alternative to it that this dog's big for vegetables. Or vegetables. He loves vegetables. All right. Listen, he loves jalapeno peppers. Any kind of vegetable that you will give him. Now, I want to back up for a minute because you said with Casper that he was having a lot of issues just because when I hear about a bichon who's having problems in the urinary nature, they are a breed very prone to bladder stones and particularly calcium oxalate based bladder stones. So one of the methods to deal with that is we will try a low protein diet and the SO type food if that's the one that you're talking about. By made by royal Canaan, that is appropriate for that kind of dog that has those kind of urinary issues. It is a low protein food. So if that's somehow related to his previous signs, then I would definitely endorse that prescription basically for you. You haven't had a problem since. Well, there you go. Then it's doing something. Well, at least I'm speculating. It's changed it all out. Sometimes it's anywhere from two to four months before we get home. And I realized this is the prescription dog food and it's hard for me to get an I am going home mix with you and I do have a couple of hands, but is there if I get in a bind? Is there anything else? The trick is there's probably some things that we can use short term retreat foods that would be appropriate for a dog on this food. But I'm going to say it's a little hard to just pick a food that we're going to be able to substitute because this is a therapeutic food. It is basically gearing the urine into a certain environment so we can hopefully prevent those problems. Now, there are some treats that we can do. Before I even get there, I was going to say, at least at my office, in many veterinary offices around the country, they may have the option to order online for these prescription foods and to have those shit to your home. Because it is very much only like ten miles from me and the problem is getting to.

"Real honest. I knew nothing about grooming till this guy walked into the studio. In fact, I didn't even know and I'm talking about myself not my animals. taught me how to? Groom myself and I look pretty sharp. The ladies dig now. Thanks Joey Villani the dogfather thank you. I appreciate I bow to you. So listen somebody asked me a question that a lot of people really don't know the answer to, and that's The groomer was grooming their cat and cut the whiskers on a cat. Or purpose. You know what I hope it was by accident but you but you never know there's a lot of dudes. It could be a lot of variables why it was done. I mean if the cat was completely matted sometimes they they get You know I'm not making any excuse. You don't want to. It's a census for cat. It's like taking away our sense of touch. Okay where we can probably live without it but it's GonNa make things difficult. Now, cats use their whiskers not only to measure spaces a pixel vibrations can actually pick up vibrations of prey running looming the whiskers are set deep into the cats muscular structure. So the much deeper than regular hair so picks up senses vibrations even change in the atmosphere. Now, whiskers are actually as big as the cat I'm to understand the end. Is the. Year. That's supposed to help them when they go into a crevice into a place that if they can their whiskers will fit than their body will fit correcting. You know what and don't forget their nocturnal creatures. I don't forget that. Okay. Every morning at four o'clock. So I mean, if they are in a tight area or they need to pick something up that visually they can see for whatever reason. You know the whisk is actually going to sense that in pick it up can I break them? Is it okay to breed them you know what? That's a question that I've never been asked before. So I don't know so. We'll do. An. Experiment. Okay. Don't mess with your cat's whiskers is what Joe is trying to say if you mess with he's GonNa come over to your house and again I don't know what he's GonNa do but he'll do something. Horrible. High talent cable. Thanks for stopping by today. We're going to talk about something unpleasant to you and me very unpleasant but totally natural to some dogs I think he probably figured out dogs just about anything including their own you know what? As grosses that sounds and looks it's common sometimes it could be a sign of loneliness or being bored could be anxiety or maybe your dog is copying other dogs sometimes it's because the dog learns that when there's number two around he gets punished so he's actually making disappear so you won't be mad at him sometimes he's just cleaning up his living space and yep, sometimes a dog enjoys it really doesn't present a problem except that we hate seeing it and you know a lot of folks like when their dogs given that their kiss and if you know your dog's doing that it's GonNa Click in your brain after it's already too late. First thing you can do to try to stop it is to give your dog more attention and lots of exercise and feed them more than once a day. So he has something to look forward to, and also because it'll keep them from getting hungry throughout the day and tempted also pick up after him. As quick as you can like, we said before he might be cleaning his living space, which is your job. The most important thing though is to first make sure there's nothing wrong by taking him to the vet there could. Be something physical causing like worms or other parasites rob your dog of essential nutrients. You might be eating whatever you can find to make up for it as always the way to stop dog from doing something like chasing cars or you know what it is we're talking about that. We don't want to talk about to make a quick firm correction and teach your dog the command, leave it or no bite. You know it's almost like a shovel in the shoulder. Hey, leave it. You can do it by tugging on a leash real quick. Lead or no bite or by a quick poke with your fingers in the neck all at the same time, saying leave it or not something to change his attention to take it away from what he's doing, and soon as he stops the behavior, you don't want them to do you praise them maybe even give them a tree. That's probably the most important thing. Always remember to praise your dog for desired behavior because you want.

"Veterinarian Dr Debbie white groomer Joey Villani news director Laurie Brooks and now from the red barn studios here your hosts ballet rooms and Judy Francis incredible show for you today the dog or the boomer the human who thinks he's a dog or wants to be a dog will be joining us today very excited about this this is a true right right from the nat geo show will be joining us in just a few minutes Hey Nancy how are you I'm just fine thank you where you calling from today analysts of this a list you know KBC yeah that station is so awesome what's going on today round I called because my husband took my little dog for a walk and she had a very bad episode loose stools that looked like it had a little bloody mucus enough I know she's had a little loose stools every once in a while back I got really concerned and my husband was really freaking out but today she said nothing but normal stools and she's eighteen and she's acting okay I'm thinking it was something she ate certainly suspect and she's how old she is a baby my after months how half so yeah occasionally dogs will have some blood in the stool is usually a function of inflammation or lower bowel irritation so some folks can eat something that doesn't agree with them and if they have diarrhea there can be a straining associated with that so not much is coming out but they're still pushing and we may see some rectal bleeding with that the way that would be identified as we see fresh blood in the stool so it wouldn't be kind of black or tarry it it's really has its red characteristics to it and is usually associated with diarrhea or unusual schools so there are dogs that can have occasionally some blood in the stool with normal bowel movements but it's a little bit less common so in a young dog of her age I would say it certainly could be something she ate and I would really trees in my memory what she had eaten for the last forty eight to seventy two hours before then because a lot of times I do find sometimes treat foods are suspect as much as they love them and they can tolerate him well some dogs see with right shoes or edible choose can have a little bit of office tools the day or so following eating a kind of an edible street and then that leaves also eating those things I should they're not supposed to things in the yard in the backyard but in a puppy I would also make sure that you do have personal check to just to make sure she doesn't have any kind of worms some different types like with forms in particular even tape forms we can see some some lower bowel issues there so I would have that checked out and the mucus that you're describing when I hear people described that the option of just whoever news mucus is produced by the colon as a protective mechanism so if you're seen little bit a slimy stuff or even sometimes they also get a sheet of the mucus that kind of covers the store is the by trying to protect them as that's moving through because you're Tatian so as long as that's gone and it was only yesterday you're not seeing that further than it's unlikely it's a major problem well acted a little little bit off yesterday that I had given her some fresh air she loves route and I was eating a pear so I gave her a little tiny little bits of that and I didn't know where the back triggered her diarrhea type store she if you get enough of it even though it it's good and it's a healthy type treats yeah it could definitely because you're supposed to be off if she hit a lot for her little body size but she is a ferocious eater and thinks that up in the yard and we kindness that I have to we monitored see what she's got now and so I do worry about that the other thing that is of concern issue that's a lot of it too often on and you know I don't find any please and her coach is such that I could find please easy enough don't see any residue from please why would she scratched off and on just like I'm itching like crazy we all that occasional it here and there that's kind of part of being a dog most dogs will do that just kinda suggestion of start scratching here there especially you know with the caller or at least sometimes that just because an irritation there if it's more persistent and it's something that's really occupying her time and you can't sit with her on your lap because she just keeps one a scratch or two then I really I would make sure we do a good parasite check on her so whether that's internal or external site so we could have fleas ticks that kind of thing but sometimes even sometimes we notice if they have internal parasites they might have a little itchiness on their skin to just kind of a weird little thing you will run into I look at her skin really close but I don't see any sign of it but the other thing is it seems to be triggered after a bath in particular the dog shampoo and careless dog shampoo and conditioner and if your dog related so I wouldn't think that that would be causing her you well if it's a John shampoo and it's you know non medicated and it still could be the shampoo in the one thing that I see here on often causing dryness in itchiness afterwards is if we just don't rinse well enough to do can be a little bit of product residues that can also sometimes cause a little bit dander so just make sure you do rinse really well and that will help to avoid that shouldn't worry about them ladies room and found it to yeah if it hasn't occurred again not a big deal I still would recommend you get a stool sample to your back though okay to work with an answer thanks for listening in San Luis Obispo we're is chilly chilly chilly stay warm there Hey bill good where you calling from what's going on in Boston funny thing happened I last week because of because Wednesday morning my four month old Popiel the sun was just one thing for no apparent reason no rhyme or reason as to what exactly it happens and I you know I did the absolute wrong thing you can do in that situation I Google that Dr Google to the rescue according to global she had arthritis bone marrow cancer I had to euthanize our powerful it was just awful awful somebody ideal to do I've made a point with one of my best she could see him right away in any of the following another guy that I know who is also a mad but he lives far away and he told me to relax it's a puppy she probably closer doing something poppy related and there's absolutely nothing wrong and I'd say Saturday cheese are being normal again and there's nothing wrong with that but now I'm wondering all my god is there some lingering condition is there something wrong with her and to maybe she she's not showing us I don't know what to do because here there are like children legal default on they say yes you have no idea gotcha well that's a great question bill because this is a great way to present this when should you panic or when should you address a limping dog so if we know that there's a potential for some kind of strains sprains some kind of minor injury in the pet isn't really significantly limping without now if I have a dog that's got a leg completely up in the air not putting any weight on it that's a little different than a dog that's just kinda favoring at so if we're favoring it depending on our suspicion in a waiting a week is not a bad idea you for caring that lay not putting any weight on it I think you would need to see about it because there was a worker I mean she was only when she was walking where she'd worn pink but she would run jump all the normal other stuff and and number once and she winced when I held the Lakers kind of strained it I'll check to see if it was a swollen and she she's looked at me like why are you touching me but the pain or anything okay Mrs front later back like this is the front legs front legs okay now that being sad there are certainly some conditions in young growing dogs them out so we can see an intermittent limping so if this limping does come back it doesn't stay away then it definitely would warrant a veterinary exam because there are he did take we don't necessarily come growing pains but there are inflammation conditions that can happen in the front leg that affect the elbow the long shaft of the bone a condition called Panofsky itis and then some other kind of chilly or one so if it does come back absolutely I was saying examine X. rays would be the thing to do and sometimes you know as a veterinarian sometimes I'll have people come in and say oh I checked is like god needs not limping he's not painful you know I'm not to say that we do magic in the vet office but a lot of times there's a specific kind of palpation we need to do and your veterinarian might be able to elicit pain maybe when you can't so definitely I wouldn't hesitate to go get the of the good judgment of your veterinarian if you need to Hey I'm before you go it's interesting what you said because I was thinking and I seen this so many many times a lot of times a dog will limp they get something stuck in there pop patter in between their paw pads it's really simple thing and you'd never know it lets you check there could be like a thorn in there or a rock stuck in there and that's why they're living so that's the first thing I would check because that happens all the time doesn't it them yeah certainly can't I actually just had bought him a cactus thorns on the link and that would actually be for spring I get when I when I saw Olympic assertions about rock stuck in between has some because of you know being on the with something but there was nothing nothing there will be only wish you the best.

"Super secret hidden location on Animal Radio Mission she won't tell us it is because we'd Blab it of course is here with Mika and so as Joey Villani the dogfather inhalable communicator joy turner stays yeah well if you're single would use your dog to get a date with a like minded person do you think that people use their dogs as date Bait I've heard guys say get a puppy and walk around and you have fifty girls at your feet right away I'll tell you what this new survey found what's the best dog to us if you're trying to get a date coming up on animal radio news wonder what the best dog I wanNA stick around just for that let's go to Jeff and Jeff how're you doing what's going on I have Dr Debbie right well she's not right here but she's somewhere in the United States and we know that yes I was I wanted to find out some information about I have a cat that I've had now she's about oh about three years old and I've had her and she was Amazon there's a little bitty thing and I matter of fact bottle fatter and everything else and just recently I've decided to get another cannon house because I'm on the road a lot usually going forty eight hours at a time so I didn't want to leave her there by herself um I ended up getting another cat and she is oh about a year and a half old trying to integrate the two and so far I'm not sure exactly how to do it with my schedule the way it spin are you having any difficulties with the the introduction or a heavy sach displays the other one home i read a little bit about you know they shouldn't see each other and stuff like that but I only had a limited amount of time Medina that so I went on the very next day to each other there and of course I got the hissing back and forth with with them and such and I thought well okay that's going to be okay and then the one st in the background audited and then the other one stayed in the front and Kinda just if they look at each other kind of each other but they kinda stayed away from each other and okay this morning I've realized that actually starting yesterday yesterday and this morning the older one she is starting to go after the new kitty and so I don't think she really wants earner but at the same time I think she he's trying to let her know that she's Alf I guess I'm not you can't personality together suddenly very abruptly you are just waiting to see what's going to boil over on your pot and had stove and sometimes it goes well and we don't have problems and other times we set up for that pot just boiling over and burn in your hands and and you're going to get to the situation where if we're already seeing the one cat going after the other aggressively you you've already got some patterns starting here so definitely this may be really challenging since you aren't immediately there a lot of the time but what I recommend the first things when we introduce cats do visual separation completely different rooms we let them smell each other through the rooms we share venting eventually so you move maybe some towels or blankets from one room with a Catholic being to the other one would you graduate with a gotTa get used to the senses of the other cat the smell the sounds of him through the other side before you throw them in together in you get that gradual introduction now the thing we need to do during this is cats they're they're different you know we can't say sit and they're going to sit just because they want to please us we need to police them so the way to use of food to your best advantage and so with captain we're trying to introduce them to each other you WanNa make meal feeding where you set the food down in the zone where you're introducing the cast maybe through a closed door maybe through the screen door a maybe do a large baby gate You WanNa do that in the food needs to be positive reinforcement for the kiddies experience together so that every time they eat hey look this catch right here this is a good one thing and that food is taken away at other times so that they can't go in eat without the presence that cat that way you train your kitty that this is a great idea hey this cat everytime either yeah I get a meal so this is pretty cool so you WanNa do that in backup to that I'm also going to ask you to get a fair fair Mon diffuser in the zone introducing the cats and fair moons are those sense hormones that every species has humans have them we just don't acknowledge our behavior with that for cats there's a fair amount that helps to calm and relaxed them and it can help with new introductions so get one of those that you can pick those up that pet stores veterinary office and put that in it's like a little plug in air freshener put that in your introducing the Katie's in these areas now gradually we're going to work to putting them together more and more and we may have to use some supervision with them as you're getting to that point if we start to have aggressive displays its best to stop to cease that now can behavior is somewhat similar dogs that we wanna read their their non verbal communication wandering look at the ear position we WANNA look at their eyes and the movement of the tail so Zia Katie that's unsettled and unhappy about a situation they're gonNA put their ears back they may crouch down that tail may whip low fast from side to side that's an uneasy cat and if you put was that cat into that new introduction with other cat you're GONNA ask for trouble so you kind of have to become a key psychologist when you're watching for this and then with time weeks months maybe we can get most counts introduced into acclimate to each other but you know the truth is just like my college roommate sometimes you just can't get you can't get along well thank you I appreciate that hey look I totally agree with the doctor debut seth everything and when you see those signals which said about they're about to fight you can lose my device convinced sir it works for the cats you gotta watch though because you don't want to create another thing that gets their anxiety up so I know the right cat for that we use it for cats there you go thanks for your call there we appreciate that one eight six six four zero five eight four or five to connect with the Dream Team doctor. Debbie sounds funnier than usual today she's broadcast gene live from a super secret location somewhere in the United States where their son in it's pet friendly she won't tell us exactly where it is we have to guess but in the city yeah we have lots of the world famous Russian dog wizard Dogfather Joey Villani animal communicator joy turner ladybugs dog is screening call today Judy off becoming a grandchild I think this is seventh or eighth grandchild you're adding years onto her too George how're you doing oh good doc listen I got a question we had a beautiful cat that just escaped one day you know and you couldn't catch him I'm and he came back and he was weak but you know still living and so we're feeding him the Ritz wet cat food and there's some dry and he's gaining weight but not fast is there some way I could help him gain more like you know is Vera another treatment that I could add to it we account has gone through something like this we don't really necessarily need to rapidly cause a weight gain as long as he's eating and that he's taking good nutrition and he you're seeing positive change we really don't try to power up these guys and and try to fatten them up faster I love you know the protection of a good home and good nutritional really go a long way and you know if he's gone out some things that I always kind of think about you know making sure that he's viral tested feeling the age and his chip yeah so definitely cats actually can get type of an mute deficiency virus called Feline Aids but it's Fiv and it's usually those diseases are you seeing count they're outside so yeah and especially if he's a little skinnier on three St looking is just kind of an important thing to screen for make sure he's not showing positive for that now the other thing would be in conjunction with visit is we want to do a good deal warming treatment for him any Katie Hunting Katie that goes outside they always have that risk of parasites but you know he's been out on the Lam for awhile we WanNa make sure twelve protected for it okay thank you so much so basically if your wife will tell you he's fine manically just put him on the great nutrition in the at some great multivitamin supplementation put the human digestive enzymes at probiotic in yield cat in the league for many ears it's the world famous Russian cat wizard he's actually learning a lot about cats I'm very proud I was very impressed by the doctor she was scared to suggest any Iraq's time she just said okay let's with a little bit patrician stuff was always push tation. There's just a point in time when just a good diet is all you need so sometimes fighting with the very about this thing with you know we have a lot of income and that's that's a good fight love you I can only imagine what we could entity we'd be we'd be unstoppable you're unstoppable on radio dogs hats new and a Maldive able to in Amsterdam Zookeepers House cat has adopted a baby red panda in his nursing the cub along with their own kittens a spokesperson from the Artis Zoo explained that to red panda cubs were abandoned by their mother for some reason leaving them alone in the cold the Zoo stepped in and put the cubs in an incubator where one was to weaken died the other was adopted by a cat who had just given birth the kittens red pandas are an endangered species who look more like a raccoon than a giant panda they matured just a bit bigger than a house cat so the zoo plans let the cubs nurse with his Catt family for a few months before bringing out some bamboo and fruit I'm not thinking you'll have to fight with his hidden siblings for that meal I'm Brit Savage for animal radio people to hand Lorraine here is today's top story I'm nick miles. "Talking to my body Joey Villani do you want to know anything about joy the line look him up just punch in Joey Villani inter grown at all this stuff will pop up but Joey and I have been good friends for a very very long time we started grooming at the same time and we agree that the grooming industry has turned into a specialty industry okay I'm not going to go to a brain surgeon if I need heart surgery okay both doctors but I'm you know I'm not going to go to a dentist if I have an ingrown toenail most doctors I'm saying right right but the point I'm trying to make here is that there are certain groomers that do great in certain things some growers are great with poppies some rumors are great with all dogs some rumors are great with aggressive dogs some groomers are great with geriatric dogs dogs that have problems and you know we've mentioned this before but we really want to hammer it home because this is what's happening in this industry right now groomers are they are special and that's why and again you have your universal groomer you got those groomers out there that are just they're they're excellent in all of it you know and you know what props to you props to you as we always say we're groomer advocates here and we want what's best ultimately for the dog but you got to keep yourself safe you got to keep that dog safe and I could tell you again forcing a grooming on a poppy is not keeping anything safe at all now all now but here's the thing here's an example of how tedious it could be to work with the puppy so you bring a puppy and first time the puppy has no idea what's going on you try to do too much for example you hit one of the veins when you're cutting the puppies nails you just created a dog that is never going to like their nails being cut ever in there his her life and once you go there you go it's what happens next the dog will be so vicious when you're going to cut its nails in next time no matter what and you know what that's a great point because again we get that comment on our nail clip videos all the time my dog hates it my dog will take your face so you want to know why at some point or another ninety nine percent of the time somebody hit that thing early on okay what we do what we do here is when we get poppies I explained to the customer we're going to check the nails yeah and I mean tip we're not getting anywhere close to the things on the first nail clip maybe second third maybe tenth and show that dog feels comfortable with the feeling of how that blades coming across that male and the sound of the clipper and let me tell you and when you do it that way guess what ninety nine percent of the time you'll click that dog's nails and you'll get him back further further because again what Anthony said right up front trust your yeah if you've never hit the vein early on and by tipping the nail you won't hit the vein that's all we'll never associate the mails with anything bad it'll just be how that feels weird and that's why you said it two three four times and maybe even ten depending on the dog they'll accept that it feels a little strange but it doesn't hurt so they will write you that much on it it happen as we see it every day was the all time all the time and here's the thing to when you gain that amount of trust guess what ends up happening in the end not only are you able to cut the nails back to the desired length you can introduce the nail grinder to and really get them nice and ground and you get those nails done real real well ninety percent of the time that'll happen if you just don't force the issue if you just don't try to to to do too much right off the bat you know again like we've always said I'd use this in the past you you don't take a toddler and put them in the seventh grade you know I'm saying because they just they wouldn't know what the heck is happening so why why do that to a puppy it's gradual you have to do grooming is gradually needs to and be introduced slowly it needs to be introduced methodically it needs to be introduced on a on a trust level you know again if you guys are interested in learning more about this two are going to grooming school check out Erica sell the meaning at what what's I always mess up her schools and just well pause I always say all for poor judge all for all four paws just for poison when Hearst New Jersey guys and again listen to the pros listen to what we're trying to tell you here if you're that pseudo groomer and you're taking it and you want to do it yourself we're all for that too but check out our videos good agreement by Rudy check out our videos so that you can see how we're doing it because what what you know with Anthony's amaze and filming dude you're a great film or are you smelly at times but a good summer really good film yes smelly good film or you are my son but here's a week with Anthony Sir we're showing you up close videos were really showing you in detail how to do it I got a funny comment the other day the guy he said I'm using a ju jitsu move on how to do the pads are if you read that one or not but it's true I'm supporting the body I'm holding out front leg I'm supporting the body it's just that it's not just the clippers it's how you're holding the dogs so on and so forth there's just so many things to learn about grooming and all you groomers out there once again please if you do things a certain way and it works for you share it share it you know start your own YouTube channel man I listen that's a with we're all about this we we we which want to enhance everything about grooming yeah yeah we have them I love some of the Grammy channels that are out there yeah somebody was I think it was love of grooming and pet grooming they actually subscribe to our channel and that means a lot because they have like sixty thousand subscribers and it's like that's a big channel you know we're coming up on ten so we're getting we're getting up there ourselves but yeah I miss a lot that that was a yeah you know yeah let's work together spread the word let's collaborate that's what you too loudly all about anyway that's right share the love love of grooming thank you so much for subscribing to us we subscribe back to you guys too we love what you guys are doing it again we just we appreciate it we're not we're not here to try to monopolize anything or try to make it work listen we want we want a better this industry as we always mention and are again not to get off topic too much our topic is poppies today but the goal here is to be able to arm that poppy through its whole entire life with minimal stress minimal stress and we're gonna be dishing out and showing you even more puppy videos what was the other puppy video we did another puppy video with star Chris our internal aria check out yet what was it westie puppies first Grewia westie RB yeah I don't know for school and I forget what we titled it but yeah it's a "Eight four zero five. If you have a question for Dr Debbie or for Joey Villani call those numbers now and Judy will get you in Q Lorie Brooks. She does news at the bottom of the hour. Our miss Brooks. What do you have for this hour? You can hate the politics. Go ahead. There's a lot going on in politics as we're gearing up for the twenty twenty election very early. But all of these contenders on the democratic side, at least because nobody is running against President Trump, most of them have pets, and they love their animals. Like I said, you can not like the politics hate the politics, if you want, but we're going to introduce you to their pets. You gotta love animals. Yeah. Okay. That's on the way just a few minutes. Also on the show today, we, we unfortunately, lost doors status last couple of weeks and she was a big animal advocate. She had actually very animal-friendly hotel in Carmel, which I think still exists, but she was a cast on animal radio. And we spent some time with her, and we're going to flash back and recall that time with her special pay Linda, how you doing? Good where where are you today? Beat listening on what station do you listen on? I'm not really sure. My husband has unleashed blind. He's the one that told me about it, and he would never move on it. So I listened, I recorded your one of your shows like two weeks ago and I had a real hard time trying to understand the phone number to fans. I voted down at night. Decipher it took me three days, number, right? Listener to actually record VCA in the phone number because I said it so fast. Well, let me just say it one more time nice and slow for everybody. It's one eight six six four oh five eight four O five. That's it. Bit and started. It spells ca flagging by the way, if that makes it easier. I'm finding understand you. It spills ca Florida. "Oh, you should see us. Now. This isn't television all of our animals are cuddled up in our laps. We've got hair all over. There's a first line in the studio right now ladybugs studio stunt dog. She seems to be shedding a little bit. Time of year look around you see who has an animal among you wherever you are. Right now chances are one in three which seems kind of low has an animal a pet at home. There's more and more of us. However, there seems to be a maybe a little argument on how many animals are in the United States argument. Yes, there is you see I say there's just not enough there will that's the. That's the right answer. Okay. Thank thank you should've asked you. Yes. They should have the American pet products association says sixty eight percent of us households have an animal and that ninety million dogs and ninety four million cats existed in the United States. However, the American veterinary medical association says only fifty percent of households have a pet and that there are seventy seven million dogs and fifty eight million cats. So who's right? Does it matter? No, it doesn't matter. The one thing that we can tell from these districts is that it's stabilizing this not increase. Seeing it's not increasing is not increasing it's becoming stable. I thought it would be increasing. You would think so with all the millennials is having a to luggage children having four legged children. Let's file can we file this away? Just ahead. File. Getting full. It doesn't matter to us. How many animals you have just that you love your animals? And if you have a question for Dr Debbie or Joey Villani are dogfather he's really good with the grooming of animals. In fact, he does my hair. Nobody mentioned my haircut weekend. Joey Villani special right there. He cleaned the clippers after that dog before. More importantly giddy clean them after Hal, probably so. Edel onto it was all one. Anyway. So if you wanna talk to Dr Debbie right, now, let's t up the phone lines Laurie. What are you working on for news and ten minutes? There's an interesting new setting, and we've kind of been talking about it here around the studio all day today about how much is enough exercise for your dog. So, you know, if your dog's getting enough exercise or not, but more importantly is as you the pet parent. What are your excuses for not giving your dog enough exercise, and we'll tell you how much you might be like some other people who are exercising their pets enough? Hi, terry. How are you? Very good. Where are you? Driving through Nashville Nashville. We'll say, hi. Okay. Probably be a Howdy. I'm from Dallas. Can we help you out today? Well, I've got a male cat guys shelter about six years ago. And he's been in the house. The whole time doesn't go outside mistaken about getting other kitten. And wouldn't sure how that would go. Seoul Cannell this time. Yes. So you're thinking of getting another kitten or a cat or one or more? Another kid. I was I was go to shelter to get another one..

"We'll be talking to the dogfather Joey Villani. What do you have for us today? We're going to talk about the dangers of home grooming kits. Oh, I've seen those. I seen wall makes one in supposedly have like everything you need to do trim. What what you know what I don't? I don't want to get everyone along because there are safe ones. Put the professional ones that they sell for home. Use could be a little dangerous. Okay. That on the way with Joey Villani, the dogfather in just a few minutes. Laurie. What are you working on Ellie lost a fashion designer recently? But we may have another millionaire cat even a billionaire cat in the world soon. Okay. That's on the way in just a few minutes. Let's go to the phones. Hi, beverly. You know, what I have the whole team here for you. What's going on with your animals? Okay. My cat is about eleven years old. And she was diagnosed at the end of December with hyperthyroidism. Okay. She was she had been throwing up off and on for several months, and she was losing weight. But I think she was losing weight because I had cut her food down pretty much to keep her slim. I thought it would make healthier, but anyway, she stopped eating altogether. And she was still throwing up. So it's over to the doctor at the end of December. She she had a full panel of blood work. And she was diagnosed with the hyperthyroidism. Okay. I now see was put on the hills prescription diet. The doctor said that they took him ten years to formulate that and. So I put her on its use on on for six weeks. And after that, she had another blood panel done her liberal liver. Enzymes her liver. Enzymes enzymes were better. Everything was better in was her thyroid level lower than as well. Yeah. Originally, it was up to nine point four holy cow. That was a big one. Yeah. She had an header second blood panel after the six weeks of the prescription diet. It was down to two point one phenomenal. That's great yet. That was within range. Now, the only thing she wants to keep my doctor wants me to keep her on the hills prescription diet. She said there's nothing else out there for her. But reading the ingredients on this diet. I'm not really thrilled with it. The first the first ingredient is corn gluten meal. Okay. It's not. I don't think it's a great food. I was wondering if there's anything else that you would recommend foodwise. Okay. Okay. For cats. So this is really the only approved food out that can treat hyperthyroidism without the need of medication surgery or irradiation. So when we kind of go back to this, you know, everyone nowadays all hung up on ingredients, and what's in food, and gluten and this and that this food can do some amazing things for cats with this condition. So what I always kind of go back to his what are your goals in treating your cats condition? If you don't ever want to have to worry about food, and you wanna see what you want to yet? Then we go to a different therapy. So those therapies may then be something you want to consider the great thing about the food yet. You're on is that. Yeah..

"Mean that he's gonna he's gonna like at the end of the day. But it's how the groomer handles sometimes the stress of distress level in salon could be extremely high could be a great day. But what however it is you have to conduct yourself, professionally and the professionals that do are the ones that should be training the public and letting them on the stand that, you know, your pets safe here. And we know what's best. And I think that's couldn't say a better with schools like Nash, I remember going there and within the first week. It was all about being sanitary. It was all about being safe. And we always say, you know, people think that this is easy. Just because you buy yourself a pair of clippers from WalMart doesn't make you a groomer. You know what I'm saying? There's so much more you have to know how to handle dogs, and it's not for everybody. Well, I agree with you there. I mean, I cringe when people want to go out and buy a home grooming kit, clippers and all and not know anything at least if nothing else get on YouTube and watch somebody that goes with the donor problem is is you don't know who you watch on these channels either for general public, but what grooming schools a pop and all over the place down the industry's lucrative. It's a great career. If your pet lovers stuff be something to check out we want to get young people involved too. Because it is a great career. I've been doing nothing since I'm nineteen years old. Thanks to you guys. Honestly, I really and you raise the family and have kids and everything on that. Right. That's right. Yeah. It's a great trade. You can make some money, and it's not always easy. I mean, it's a hard work. A lot of times you're doing stuff for nothing. You know? And in the beginning, I was doing my neighbor's dogs for, you know, twenty dollars, you know, shaving him down took me three hours because I did just didn't have the experience. Yeah. So it's a skill that develops over time. Even to this day. I'm still develops still learning. It's a fine line. It takes time to develop really is. "He's going to he's going to like it at the end of the day. But it's how the groomer handles sometimes distress of distress level in a salon could be extremely high could be a great day. But what however it is you have to conduct yourself, professionally and the professionals that do are the ones that should be training the public and letting them understand that, you know, your pet is safety. And we know what's best. And I think that that's couldn't say a better with schools like Nash, I remember going there and within the first week. It was all about being sanitary. It was all about being safe. And we always say, you know, people think that this is easy. Just because you buy yourself a pair of clippers from WalMart doesn't make you a groomer. You know what I'm saying? There's so much more to it. You have to handle dogs, and it's not for everybody. Well, I agree with you there. I mean, I cringe when people want to go out and buy a home grooming kit. Clippers and all and not know anything at least if nothing else get on YouTube and watch somebody that goes with it during the problem is is you don't know you watch on these channels either for general public, but you know, what? "Is the place where we celebrate our pets. We make sure they're healthy and happy, and hopefully you have either Penn insurance or put money away just in case something catastrophic happens to your animals. You never want to be put in the situation where you have to decide whether or not to euthanize them because you're short few thousand dollars. And today we're gonna find out this brand new alternative to pet insurance. And this doc, I believe he's a physician surgeon a human doctor. Human doctor is he has a brand new digital or online company that is an alternative to pep insurance. We'll find out what that's all about. Coming up here on animal radio before we leave today. Also, Joey Villani. The dogfather continues to get in trouble with his peers. I'm talking about, yes, his groomer friends, his groomer friends hate him because he's always coming on animal. Radio and telling us the tricks that groomers us and today we'll happen again. So get your pen and paper ready. We're going to help you keep your dog groom just like the groomers, hey, Gwen, are you doing? Glen was the first name? I fish. I love that name. My fish Quinn. Okay, thrilled. Sorry. What's going on with your animals? What's going on, how can we help you? I've talked to Debby Ryan. Every time we take having feed dipped in everything they continually gets lead lots of lead dog. Yes. Okay. What kind of dog you got there? Kaka poodle. Okay, wonderful. Gerbil little guys. What color is he? He's right. All right, so so he's got fleas in, are they treating them when you get him groomed? Do you treat them at home with anything with nine? Yes. Okay. And we had a dog collar on him and it's not doing any. Good. All right. What part of the country do you calling from? I'm calling from Los Angeles, California. Okay. All right. So, yeah, you certainly are you. I'm in normally practicing Las Vegas. So in California, you guys have all sorts of fun with fleas that we don't get to have here in Las Vegas. We have a very dry climate so they don't really thrive very well, but certainly in California, the moisture definitely it's a haven for fleas and you know that trick with fleas is that one product doesn't always do the trick alone. And in many areas, the reinfestation of fleas is huge. So you could treat the pet and everything on the pet can be killed. But. If going back into the environment where the fleas are, which is very common in areas like California, there's flees outside, it isn't uncommon for them to get reinvested. So we always kind of have to look at that as a possible reality and make sure that we're doing everything we can not just on the pet, but even in the home or even in the yard to treat, it's kind of what we call integrated flea control. So we Don a treat more than just one method. And if one product doesn't do your very good, you know there's a lot of other good ones out there, and in fact, advantage and Advantix they that's kind of a whole line of different flea products. They have some very good products that can be helpful in some pets. It might work better for your pet. And I definitely endorse a product that has a combination of different ways that we can attack these critters. So there's a little eggs. There's little larva and then there's the adult. So if I find a product or products that tackles. More than one life cycle of this. Then then we're doing really good so you you might want to look at perhaps looking at advantage to or Advantix Tim. Those might be some of the ones you want to look to. I'm but I would stay faithful. I mean, you gotta stay on top of fleas. They reproduce like crazy. So one little flea can certainly add many, many generations beyond. So one bite and one fleet can leave your pet scratch in leave. You running in circles after these guys.
