"Let's take a look at your top 5. And we'll start with the 15 here, Greg. We've got the Chargers, the charges, of course, they have a lot of talent led by Justin Herbert, dude is a stud at quarterback. Why do you have them at 5? So I think that the GM there did a tremendous job of sort of plugging their holes. And they have, they've had offensive line issues. They couldn't stop the run worth of damn last year. Now, they are putting a lot into Sebastian Joseph day, who's a good player. They're still thin beyond him on the defensive interior, but they added Khalil Mack to go on the opposite side of Joey Bosa. Now Mac isn't the same guy that he used to be, but with a better surrounding cast and a guy like Joey Bosa, taking a lot of attention away. That should make him even better. I mean, it's very similar to like bond Miller going to whether he was in LA last year with Aaron Donald or now he's in Buffalo, they have Rousseau and some other guys that sort of can take attention away and those aging sort of pass rushers can still get the job done with a better supporting cast. And I think they can do that. To me, I still worry a little bit about their offensive line. And but to me, Nick, and I don't know how you feel about it. But to me, this is going to be a total indictment one way or the other. It's going to be a judgment on Brandon staley as a head coach. I thought that at times he was overwhelmed last year. I think that sometimes he makes decisions just to prove how smart he is. And it's not in the best interest of the team. And maybe last year he had it built in excuses about, you know, we needed to go for for this reason, you know, we're short here. We're short there. What have you. But now, the way they are right now and fully healthy and with Justin Herbert, who I still think, look, I think the world is Justin Herbert. I was dead wrong on him coming out of college. He spectacular. Now, he doesn't want to play off game yet.

"Because I'm talking about it as in, if Mike on wenu is, I don't want to, I don't want to put any expectations. But if he's a very good right tackle in the NFL, that is more valuable than Mike on why not being a very good left guard in the NFL. Just from a team building's perspective. And then you can go into next off season. You have Isaiah went on his 5th year option at left tackle. Maybe you draft another tackle early to compete with Isaiah win in camp or maybe take the mantle from Isaiah win after next year and you reset at that position. But if you have Mike on Wendy as your right tackle for now and for the future, that is one big spot on the offensive line that's now. The three most important spots in the offensive line are both tackles in the center, right? Those are the three most important spots. So playing them at left guard, maybe Mike on when who might develop one day into an all pro left guard. He has got that ability. He's got that power and the play strength and the movement and the smarts and all that kind of stuff to be an all pro player at card. Maybe he's not an all pro tackle, but he's a very, very good tackle, and that might be more valuable from a team building perspective. Again, I still think he's a better tackle. I still just from what I've seen out more at tackle, so it's hard to say. Okay, fair enough, but they chip Joey boasts a whole lot. And I'm not saying that that's a bad, that's good coaching, right? That's not a bad thing. It's not like they went into the game and said, oh man, you know, my God Wendy versus Joey Bosa is such a huge mismatch that we need to give on when you help. They just didn't want both to take over the game. So they did the right thing and they made sure that he got some extra attention. I just think like you said, to just be locked in at right tackle is a good spot to be. So I would leave him over there and I guess we'll see what happens when Trent Brown comes back. But I'm also not opposed to the idea that Isaiah wins expendable next off season. Yeah. So, you know, that doesn't happen if you don't have one or at right tackle. So we will see but yeah, I think you should stay out there for the time being. I get the whole practice reps thing and I understand that they felt that on when it was more of a guard than the tackle and they want, I got Josh McDaniels explanation a 100%, right? I thought what he said made total sense..

"Even if you have a good first series, you have to come at him with something different in the second one to keep him on his toes because it all runs through Lamar Jackson. But I want to look at a couple of plays here and look at there's not one way to beat him. You can't just run man to man against them. I'll show you one play here that one of the downsides of running man and how he's able to beat that up. And I'll also share what I think the key to stopping the running game is for us as a defense. And something to the lions did really, really well. Before we get to that, one of my hopes, especially just as a curveball, do it for a series, do it for a couple of plays. Is the more I've thought about it since our Tuesday episode. I love the idea of Joey Bosa down inside. I love the idea, this play here that I have lined up. The lions run a three man front as well. They have these three down linemen, then they have their two outside linebackers. So to me, I love the idea of switching it up and letting facilities be out here on the outside, letting both that come down here into the three technique, whatever you want to call it two technique. Along with lindvall and Hillary, that is a big, solid athletic, strong front, right? I think that Christian Covington third down lineman becomes an issue here and there. Obviously, Hillary's not the best in the world, but you could rotate those guys outcoming tenant Hillary. Keep them fresh and bring Joey down in the box and let him just disrupt things. That keep an eye on it, see if it happens. That's what I would do as a coach to try to mix things up and give them a little bit different look. But as we watched through this first play, to me, stopping this run is forcing the plays that are supposed to be inside runs outside. You whatever they want to do, you want to make them do the opposite. So you want to clog up the inside and make these running backs bounce outside because our team we have a very fast defense, right? When you have three down linemen and 8 athlete athletes with four linebackers and four defensive backs sometimes 5 defensive backs, you're fast. You're running around, get to the outside, that's fine. We'll come run you down. If that's the game plan. All right, so we're going to look here at this first play that I want to look at. I think it perfectly shows the idea of they're trying to run these inside runs. We need to make them bounce outside. You can go ahead and go to the clip now. I think right here you're going to see they're going to do their best to hand this ball off. He wants to cut up inside of these blocks. They force him to bounce outside and that's where our pressure can come. You see Hollywood Brown out here. He has no desire to block anybody out on the edge. So you have safety here. This is at two man show that we're very comfortable with seeing. And this only works if we can make it bounce. If we can create some kind of a wall in here, forced them to bounce outside and let our fast guys go down in rally to the ball. That's when we can be effective against the run. If we're going to let them just gash us up the middle, all game long, just like we saw with the browns. It gets really, really hard..

Chargers DE Joey Bosa Rips Into 'Blind' Officials After Win
"The second with Joey Bosa on, quote, he said, this was amazing. This was just so this blew my hair back if I had any. He said the refs are blind. I'm sorry, but you're blind. Like open your eyes and do your job. It's so bad. It's unbelievable. These guys have got to do a better job because it's been years of terrible, terrible missed calls, left and right, it's really pathetic, honestly. He was pissed. He was not holding back. I pray to God this does not get around the league and breaths start taking it as a personal attack and trying to come back. That's true will. For sure. That might be, oh, that might be awkward. I didn't even consider it. At the same time, it's also, hey, you're gonna watch Joey Bosa from a league standpoint and be like, hey, are these bad calls? Like, do we need to check these dresses? To be fair, almost every week there is a weird ass call that gets against us. Like what are you talking about? How is that a fumble? Like there's just been too many of those, and even earlier in the game that we were talking about, the face mask that was not a face mask. He did not touch his face mask like those little things that really do need to get cleaned up. So everybody's fully behind him for saying it, but I think you're right. There is a concern that there could be some retaliation from the referee crew. I didn't even consider

"Mother's face. The out. There's another segue for your ass. Oh yeah, and The Rain is mother. Can't love it bye. It's gonna give it to you. RIP DMX. Goodness gracious, jeeves. That was a mouthful. I thought my stomach was hurting enough from yesterday's game, but. DMX has to go on. Rest in peace, DMX. All right, I tell DMX DMX crossover. If they had a baby, what would it sound like? All right, now let's stay focused here. Bosa, all right? I felt a little bit of this as well. That obviously boasts coming into this game. He's injured. So what level of productivity are we going to see from this guy? And you're right. It feels like people are expecting like a Khalil Mac type performance where this guy gets like two sacks and a fumble recovery. And then that's the only way he's going to be good. But obviously, that wasn't the case for both. Supposed to have one of his best games ever. So break it down for his coach. Joey Bosa, he's a monster, right? Yeah, absolutely. If you go back and watch, if you're not watching him on every play, sometimes it does kind of feel like where's Joey? Because it's Bowie, Joey Bosa and Derwin James. That's like our Bowie. That's our defense. Those are the big superstars of the defense, right? So you see Derwin James all over the map, but Joey's kind of down in the line. You have to be really looking at him to find him in. Yeah, he came into this game, hurt, he didn't practice once this week. He played 70% of the snaps, which was still a pretty high percentage. That is for some of the injured. Yeah. Getting hurt again on the game. He really was out there kind of gutting it out for his team to beat this to beat this chief team that he knows how big of a game that says, but there's so much to playing defense of line. And being effective that we don't always see. So as I had talked about in previous episodes, how you eliminate a great pass rush is running the ball really well. When you get up on the down and distance and you don't create obvious passing downs, it becomes really hard for a good defensive end that does both stop the run and the past, brush the passer. Somebody that does both of those really well, it becomes really difficult for him to just pen his ears back and go. They ran for almost 200 yards on the game. If I'm not mistaken. So he had his run stop kind of hat on in this game. So that's why you don't always see him flying through on a pass rush unless they're an obvious passing down. You can't do that. You have to stop the run first before going. These guys don't know before the snap. Oh, I'm in a pass rush. So he has to take those one or two steps and know if he needs to retrace. He's really reading that tackle that he's playing against. That's his read. Our linebackers are most of the time we're reading guards to running back. Your defensive ends are reading that tackle. Their eyes are on the tackle. So if they're running RPO, he doesn't know if he can just go. He then, okay, I saw what the taco that now I gotta get my eyes here and I have to figure out if this is runner pass. So there really is so much more to being a good defensive end than just, hey, I'm a pass rush every single play. So that said, looking at this very first play here, Joey is going to be lined up just inside. This is his foot that you can see. Game pass. Game pass is still not allowing us in zone footage yet, which really sucks. So we're doing NFL. We pay a lot of money for that stupid service to give us what we want. It sucks. But you can see him in you can see him in here. That's his first thought in his foot. Real nice, real nice. So this is the first like dropback pass. So you'll see as the ball is snapped, this tackle's gonna sit up and drop back into a pass. Then element of Joey boasted that never goes on the stat sheet is him taking on two guys on every pass. This wing here, this is a tight end. This is a big body. He is gonna fire out and jam Joey for one 1002 thousand and then released on his route. And then the tackle is gonna be sitting there fresh waiting for Joey. Makes it really hard to rush the passer, especially because Patrick Mahomes gets the ball out really, really quick. He's a good he's a good he's a good quarterback. So he's not gonna hold onto the ball forever. So as you watch this play develop, it doesn't look like it's like a Joey Bosa highlight standout play, but watch this, he's eliminating two guys from this play. If you eliminate two guys from a play, that should give us the numbers, right? So even a little something like that that you don't very much unnoticed, it is effective in what it needs to be. Joey is taking on two blocks so that your other side, they can't do that. Kyler, whoever's over there is now a one on one. And they need to start winning those battles more effectively. So then you see oh wow, our pass rush is really good because Joey on the other side is taking up two blocks at all times. Again, not on the stat sheet. When you go to ESPN and look at the box score that's not going to be on there. But that's an impact that he has on almost every single play. All right, so this next play, again, it's gonna be something that's not really easily detectable just by watching the play with Joey's right here. There's that foot again. No, I love that foot. Yeah. My favorite foot. So an interesting thing too is Joey's in the two N is two point stance a lot this year, which is kind of fun to see two meaning as you two giggles. Like a feat guy. Your stance, however many points is how many points of contact you have with the ground. So it is two just feet. If you had a hand down that three points for is it normally three point stance kind of guy? Last year when he's playing defensive in the edge, he's handing the dirt getting off in a three point stance. Okay. So it's kind of fun to see him doing a little bit something different. I'm sure coach gives him a little bit of freedom. He must really like this to be able to see maybe a little bit more into the backfield to get a quick read on stuff. But this one, he's going to be unblocked. So these guys are all going to be blocking this way and that's another way to negate a big time pass rusher get after the quarterback type of guy. If you're unblocked, there's a defensive end when you're unblocked. That means one of two things. One, they're running a screen, which is you have to stop and halt. You can't just fly up after the quarterback. Or you're the read guy. So they're trying to they're trying to pick on you. Oh, I'm sorry, there's three options. Check check. One is the screen. Two you're the read three, you're about to get trapped and get blown up by a guard that's pulling. In all three situations, you need to stop. You can't just fly up field and go after the quarterback. So in this play, you're gonna see Joey. He gets these guys are all blocking this way. He's gonna stop eyes get inside and locate the ball 'cause Patrick Mahomes goes to hand off, Joey doesn't know if he's faking a handoff and he's gonna roll out. 'cause a lot of teams run a naked boot, meaning they're gonna try to catch that DN jump jumping down on the handoff and then as soon as this handoff comes, this guy fakes the handoff from the quarterback rolls out and they're hoping he jumps down inside on the handoff. So he is gonna he's gonna see, all right, I stop my feet, get eyes inside, make sure the quarterback's not keeping it and then he'll jump in and make the tackle. Now it's a gain of four, but knowing that all of those things are going on at the same time, you're like, wow, that was a pretty impressive play that he saw, I'm unblocked. I'm gonna step down, all right, I'm gonna see if mahomes still has the ball. Nope, now I'm gonna come back in and make the tackle. Wow. All of those things going on at once. Now it's a gain of four, yeah, that sucks, but Joey just took out three plays at once. Right? So and pretty impressive Pro Bowl caliber pay him big bucks type of defensive end play can diagnose it really quick on the fly. Right. Right. And deliver a hit to possibly force a fumble. Right. All right, so this next play, this is gonna be the play that we had to remember and you actually see on the stat sheet for Joey. This was his Zach. He lined up. Obviously, a big time position in big play third and 7. We're up 14 nothing 6 minutes in the second quarter. I'm coming close to halftime. Joey, they bump actually they bump him down into the three technique. Three technique meaning outside shade of the guard. He's been playing that edge Russia. It's not what he's doing now. Now they have a chinna. You can see her channel right here. He's the edge rusher, and they have Joey down here in the three technique. So he's down playing on the guard, which big change of pace for that guard, whoever he was used to going up to. Now you got Joey in there who's just as strong as anyone that would have been playing three tech, but way, way quicker, able to make moves. So you're going to see him get off the ball. Obviously, there's a big change of pace for this offense. But this is why he gets paid the big bucks. You'll see, and I'll run, I'll run the play through and then obviously CBS shows the replay because it's such a pretty play. But you'll see he does this awesome little step is quick step inside and then this double swipe move coming back to the outside and he's just on pat before he can even think to do anything with the wall. So all watching it here from the sideline view, you see Joey, double swipe, boom. Nice, yeah. Right into the pocket. And the defense, what we did, part of our game plan, which is frustrating as a fan, we kept pat in the pocket. Our defensive ends are edge rushers. We're not just flying up field and allowing him to step up. Here it is from the inside boom, double swipe, swim move coming, make the tackle. Because he had no escape to the outside. Our edges really did a good job of just kind of maintaining. You see even coming ten right there. He started up one side, saw Patrick to move, run around to the other side. Our defense did a really, really good job of cutting out escape planes and keeping him in the bucket, forcing him to be a prototypical stereotype quarterback, which is he used his legs on us many a game. So him not scrambling that much was very nice. Right. Yeah. It helped us be extremely effective. All right, so this is obviously one of the biggest plays of the game. Two minutes left. We kicked the field goal to tie it and every charger fans butt puckered up a little bit with like man. We're giving mahomes the ball back with two minutes and we didn't go for it. Right. And I'm like, you know, like, full Philip Rivers. Don't you channel your Phil? Yeah. And you're just like, man, I do not want to give this guy the ball back. And I was so anxious, this whole drive. This is third Nate, so needed a big play, only two minutes left. So obviously we're looking at Joey Joey again, all you can see is the foot in the butt. Here it is. He's going to be coming off this edge right here. Again, he gets doubled. He gets chipped by one, tackle picks him up. But what's so important to watch in this? Is he forces the pressure? Patrick Mahomes knows where Joey Bosa is before he snaps the ball. As he sees that white hat start to flash, he scrambles. Joey then pursues and keeps contained forcing Patrick Mahomes to step back against where he's throwing and forces the errant throw for a touchdown. So you'll see Patrick's gonna step digital steps, try to Joey's gonna come off the edge, force him to get out here. That's where mahomes makes his money, man, when he's on the run throwing this way or he gets to start working towards the line of scrimmage, that's where he can create some real havoc. He starts to come here, Joey's on his past, comes, makes him step back this way as he throws the ball downfield and that's when we are able to get downfield and make the pick. So I'll run it for you. They obviously show the replay quite a bit. So I'll let it run. But watch as Joey, he's gonna get this pressure, he gets doubled, get just forced. That's the pressure to make it outside of the pocket. Forces him to step back in. Now he's throwing that air ball that a low he's able to pick off. Again, not on the stat sheet, probably is one of those ten pressures that are in the score book, but not something that we as fans necessarily see. We see the yellow he pick, we're all hyped up. You don't remember that. You don't see that 97 force in the pressure him out of the pocket and then cutting him off so that this play right here can happen. So Joey that's so good. Regardless if he has a sack on the day, no matter what he does, he's impacting every single offense that we play in their preparation and what they have to look at presta. He's having a big impact. A hungry. Both saw hungry. Both are on sacky. Yeah, man. What an amazing thing to see how aggressive Joey's been. Not reckless. Awesome. Thank you, coach for breaking it down. And thank you, jeeps. We're asking the question. All right, folks will now it's time to go on to our next segment. It's fan focused and we've got a new face on here today. Let's see who it is. Chargers' Derwin James, Joey Bosa Have 'Warrior' Performances Against Chiefs
"Some of the things that happened while we were watching this game and I remember seeing this, it was like, I think this was before the half. They show Derwin James running to the locker room and it was like, well, wait a minute. The defense is still out there. Yeah, yeah. Durham, where are you going? I didn't see this. I didn't know he disappeared. I didn't see it. Oh yeah, scared me. The telecast, they put it, it was like they highlighted it and then Tony Romo was like, oh yeah, and derwent headed back to the locker room. He was like, he was full spray. He's like, let's get this x-ray done and get out of here. Well, yeah, whatever it was. I mean, at the time, we didn't know. He wasn't limping. He wasn't carted off. It was like he was just going. So it was like, weird, like the defense is out there. What's going on? Come to find out after Fernando Ramirez talked to Joey Bosa, apparently Joey Bosa said that Derwin James, his shoulder dislocated. And so he ran to the locker room to get his shoulder popped back in, and it made it just seemed like nothing because he was pretty much back out there like immediately. So the Brandon still he said that both of those guys Joey Bosa, who was obviously playing injured, we knew that it would be might not have played on Sunday, but he did play through the pain, played amazingly as did Derwin James. Staley called them both warriors and understandably

Joey bosa or chase young now coming through that door and if if they are they're going to be sitting there to watch the game to be suiting up and playing there is no chased young knicker. Joey bosa type of impact player defensive end for the ohio. State buckeyes now. They've had an awesome recruiting class. I think they have like two or three of the top defensive players in the class of twenty twenty one but they haven't really seen much of the field yet they really haven't had the had the chance to make an impact yet so right now their defense i know they have a lot of freshmen in the secondary but look man based on their performance on the field. Ohio state is not the best team in the conference. Take away the names. In jersey. In the history in the digital based on performance penn state which has to victories over top twenty schools including a road win against wisconsin. There better football team right now. Michigan running the football. I know they. Have you know questions about the quarterback but from top to bottom. I think they've been a better football team then. Ohio state. The season michigan state has played better football despite the difference in at margin than ohio state on the great thing is because of the talent that ohio state hath is going to be easy for them to get things correct and they have them catch up and surpass teams like michigan state or team by iowa or team like michigan or even possibly team like penn state. But i don't know man. I don't know i you know the tackling for ohio state has not been good they haven't been able to consistently get teens off of the field and third dams and if you take a look remaining schedule akron supposed to be a layup. Akron supposed to be again right team. They're going to be playing that they should beat sixty two nothing and everybody go woo problem. Solve good things are in good. Times are ahead of us. But wasn't that same deal with tulsa so you play akron at home when you go on the road to play rutgers and this is not. This is not your best friend records teams. This is great. She'll part dear rutgers team which is much better than they play maryland in there at indiana. Then they're penn state then they're at nebraska purdue michigan state then on the road for the game against michigan. So i guess for the rest of the year you could say glass. Half full fake assay. Ohio state can go tin into the season. Glass half empty or michigan fan can say that You know ohio state you can go seven and five or eight and four either way or not making the playoffs that that's going to be the record so again. This doors open for a team. Like penn state. A team like A team like iowa in a team might michigan. Wendell's world in sports. I'm your host wonder wallace. Glad you could be with us. Let me end segment by talking about the underwhelming. Oklahoma sooners beating nebraska. Twenty three sixteen still waiting for. Oh you play a complete game to what experts think. The team should be playing in fact. I'm i'm really not feeling the juice on this. Can i have. Can you feed me a little something here. Hold on can you. Can you give me a little something. "On the the wrong side of leaving okay. So we saw derwin back at twelve to fifteen yards playing shrew safety and are covered and are too high safety look. We saw him in the slot running with arguably their fastest best receiver. Now we see him again in the slot. Now you could probably tell where his eyes are. What he's going to be to do here on he's coming to blitz off the edge Now this isn't the best bullets in the world. He gets he he kinda gets beat because he's he's trying to defend the run so hard and they play action off of it but it requires the perfect play. Call for him not to blow this up. Watch how fast. this is. Another wrinkle another aspect. He could play fifteen. He can run man demand in the slot. It's not as if we put a guy here. We didn't put joey bosa standing over there number. Two right quarterback seizes. He's not thinking. Oh he's given he could be showing and then drop off and being coverage but watch the speed at which darwin's able to come off the ball. Try to make a play now. He does get beat but what if he had handed the ball off. That's the tackle for loss. It ends up being a couple of yard gain. But that's just another wrinkle. An element to what derwin did on sunday to get in people's heads lineup in the slot. If he's come in if he staying back if he's in maine coverage what's going on. So i'm gonna show one more clip right here of another blitz. That's a little bit more effective as well. All right so Derwin is lined up over here on the edge. We have children. Whoa su. who's our edge defender. Would it appears to me. This is a set. It looks like if. I'm the quarterback i'm looking at looks like derwin is man to man here on the tight end so you're not thinking anything big about it you just think. Hey he's either man man or he's got the flat over here some kind of coverage along those lines but again derwin is on the line. You don't know that he's for sure coming but watch this. Play develops the speed that he brings off of this ad is just. There's nothing you can get the ball out. Creates that that incomplete. Pass again another wrinkle that that helped jinadu this double comet that gets in that tight end that tackles mind that man. We don't know what to do. So watch coming off the edge right here who chin is gonna come underneath that allows derwin to come off the ed's completely unblocked bullshit through. Just just a wrinkle that you don't have from every safety okay. So next. play another away. Another alignment in position that darwin's playing in essence. You remember how coach talked about how we have edge defender. We don't have ends. we have edge. Defenders derwin is our edge defender. You have your three interior linemen. You have an edge defender edge. Defender hillary here. I don't have the zone view. Hopefully soon i will. But he's inside of this tide in. He's in what's called a five technique that means he's outside shoulder of the tackle so he's not on the edge. She's not alleged defender right here. Derwin who looks like our safety is lined up as an edge defender. Whether that be rauner pass. He's out here on the edge. So he's mirroring what joey bosa is doing on this side. Now as we looked at our defense joey bosa drops in coverage sometimes as an edge defender right. Yeah so nothing is. There's nothing saying that that derwin won't also drop into coverage as an edge defender. That's what brings into play this. Versatility of coast dailies defenses. He could be rushing not technically a blitz because he's the edge defender but he could also be sitting here in this curl that bosa sometimes like bosa could drop and derwin could come darwin derwin ca drop and bosa could go you. There's no guarantee as to who's doing what. Especially when you see this derwin lined up as the edge defender on the last one we saw on the edge but who chennault was the edge defender endure one. Was that extra guy on the outside here. He's the only edge guy if they were to run a quick a toss. He's the guy on the run. That's his that that would be his responsibility in his his role in this defense right now. He's the edge defender again. This is the play before this. He was at fifteen yards playing cover two or a who was at that too high look so he was about to drop in the run in the past note. It's ron he steps up and makes the play got a horse. Collar call But with the facemask it was negated. But still just the versatility of what you could do with dir. When he was the edge defender he was about to drop saw saw run and he's able to get off the block so fast and make the play though. There's the fourth way that we use him here in the game and now i have one more. This is the fifth way Super unique super cool way that we we used james. Okay so you see. This is the end of the half. It was kind of a bummer. This the roughing the passer call the we had against joey but it was kind of cool to see the mindset and the strategy behind coach. Staley in these situations right. It's this is. This is the pull your hair out charger fan. Why are we playing so soft and letting up field goal before the half kind of looked And i don't think we did. I think it was. Joe is kind of made a bonehead move and hit the guy late and put them in a really good position to be able to make points But what what derwin. James is playing inside linebacker right now so this is derwin right here. So we're in. We're in a dime so we have sixty b.'s. We have one two three four quote unquote d. lineman rush guys. Those your four rush guys. We have one linebacker. Thought five of our guys and then we have six defensive backs two three four five and six but derwin. James is a linebacker in this alignment so in essence he's a linebacker and db you don't have to give up this coverage that we desperately need here in the middle of the field and cover to the weak spot is the is this middle field. Disease guys are dropping here. He's dropping to hear martin but the weak spot in a covered to is right here in the middle right. If we had if we had left kaiser and kenneth now it's not to say that they couldn't create a play and make a play in that weak spot but with derwin. Jane's your safety. You don't give up anything if they try to run but you now all in my head. I'm still have you still have the ability to drop into that. That deep almost tampa to where he's getting out of there really fast to defend any type of attack into this into this spot so we had derwin as a fifteen yard safety. We had derwin as a cover. One nickel corner. We had derwin as an edge defender. We had derwin as a pass rusher and we have derwin as a middle linebacker. The and that's not even to say how many different zones in the coverage that he took up. Those are just a positions that he played in alignment so that was really cool. Like like we like we talked about. Didn't necessarily have a huge statistical game because they don't want to run it through but where he is at around all around the field. It's it's pretty. It's pretty incredible quota. Watch he played d. line. He played linebacker and he played defensive back in this game. Two different roles as well. That's awesome can't wait to see what.

"Well one was legitimate one. I didn't think it was a very good call. But whatever i'm in washington was on the wrong side of missed facemask against antonio gibson which was in a grievous miss The other thing that came out of the game per pro football focus or nexgen. I forget which one it was. My son's sent me this Is that the offensive line had a disastrous day which we all know that the pass protection was really bad and that sam cosmi in particular really struggled and i wanted to make this particular point and i think it's a bit of a reach so i'll concede that going in but sam caused me was targeted by this Team's front office and won coach in particular scott turner who really liked 'cause me he really liked elijah more the receivers from old miss that went to the jets early in the second round. He really liked the army brown. He really likes sam cosmi before the draft before the second day of the draft. I said 'cause me and brown. Elijah more are three players that washington would love to get one of those. They got two of them. They got causing me end. Yami brown Cosmi played incredibly well all summer long in practice training camp and he won the right tackle job. You know they had. They had a rookie in the lineup the other day because of how well he held up in practice against the likes of chase young and monteray sweat now again. That's practice. i understand but if caused me wasn't consistently doing pretty well against the likes of sweat and chase young. He may not have been in the starting lineup on sunday while he was in the starting lineup on sunday and he faced joey bosa. That is a top tier elite defensive. End right now. Pass rusher outside linebacker in a three four when they're in in thirty four. That's what an elite pass rusher. Looks like i'm not saying that chase young and montanez. Sweat aren't going to be joey bosa. Nick bosa t. j. watt chandler. Jones jones had five sacks t. J. watt had two on sunday. And i'm also acknowledging i understand the sax stat is can be a little bit more misleading than it has been in recent years because of how many teams are getting the ball out quickly but tj watch still had two sacks on sunday and chandler. Jones had five. Joey bosa was wreaking havoc by himself all day sunday. I think chase young is going to be that kind of player. I am predicting chase. Young will eventually be that kind of player and i think montas sweat can be. That player was a huge mont de sweat fan in college at mississippi state and i thought he had a great year last year. A big step forward year last year. But they're not there yet. That's the point. They're not there yet. They did not buy good. Finally i mean i think the crowding of chase young has just been too premature. I think he's going to eventually get there though. Tom i do i mean i in less would be. It would be shocking. If he doesn't it would. I be shocked if he doesn't but you know he hasn't done it yet. No but he. He was a much better player year than the statistics said. It's why he was the defensive rookie of the year. There was an acknowledgement that he was truly a difference maker any was for this team but he was not a difference maker on sunday and he was not a difference maker in the playoff game against tampa bay. He was more often than not a difference maker last year. The defense as a whole had their best days against the worst offensive teams that they faced and they're not facing those teams this year. At least not as of now so the defense to me it was. It was a big. There's a red flag on the defense coming out of sunday. I want to see a dominant performance on thursday night. You saquon barkley did not look like himself sunday. He's clearly not ready They could not run denver's defense in washington's defense who've been compared to one another the two teams have been compared to one another teams with good supporting casts outstanding potential defensively well-coached defensively but quarterback is an issue right while denver. Completely shut down the giants on sunday. They shut down sake one barkley. The giants couldn't run the football. They struggled to move the football. The giants were you know they. They had a key turnover another daniel jones key turnover. He doesn't seem to turn it over against washington but he had a big fumble in this game. And the broncos bloom out. I didn't see the game. Mac and act like i watched the game. I'm talking about what i've read about the game i'm gonna i'm gonna watch the game before thursday's show to have a little bit more on the giants On nfl game pass but they better step it up thursday night. They needed one effing. Stop on that final drive and third sixteen and couldn't get anywhere near impacting the play. So yeah you're right about chase young and the rest of them most of them on sunday now he had a couple of good rushes He got held once and he and an unlike the tampa game he was game planned for sunday. They were chipping him. They doubled him at times. They realized what he could do. But tj watts getting doubled to and i guarantee you chandler jones and some of these other guys are getting doubled in chip times too so at some point. That can't be the reason you don't end up with double digit sacks because your game plan for the entire year that can't be the reason the real great ones they overcome that the tj watch the jj watt. The nick boasts the joey bosa. When he's healthy. They overcome all that so he's got. He's got to play better than he's played in his last two games for this team at the same time he was. He was a beast at times last year. He was against. Nick mullins in some of the other quarterbacks that they face that weren't so good but nut nobody in on their defense in the last two games has reminded anybody of t. J. watt of aaron. Donald of myles garrett You know nobody's approached that level. And i hope that they will soon you know. But he's only in his second year but he's you know and i think he'll eventually got there. Okay what else do you have on the game. Now nothing you say. He's only in the second year But he's treated like royalty and he hasn't done anything. Well i mean myles garrett in his first year in cleveland had seven sacks okay four three defensive end seven sacks in year two it was thirteen and a half then ten then And by the way then then the they're the injuries and then the suspension remember the suspension at the end of twenty nineteen So he's been double digit sacks the last three years as the same kind of player. I think people would equate chase young. The same kind of upside potential disruptive defensive end kind of a player He's gone thirteen and a half ten..

"Week. Yeah but they couldn't do anything against the eagles hargrave every year when the eagles are good defense they've been a good defense stylized yup The steelers were another smell tests. Pick They won twenty three. Sixteen outright at buffalo You know the the the guy that i think has a chance to end up being the offensive. Rookie ears nudge. a harris. He did not have a big day but they blocked a punt and scored in their defense was nasty and t. j. watt who just signed the biggest contract for defensive player in nfl history had two sacks in the opener. And this is where an and a forced fumble. This is where we just need to understand. We all think chase young is really talented. You know in montana sweat too but the chase young could be you know at an all time. Great kind of a player. It's fine that we think that. And he's only in his second year and there's plenty of time here but t. J. watt is a dominant player. Joey bosa right now is a dominant player. They took games over yesterday. And so our guy. Jones five sec. We'll get to that our guy dominant play our guy in his last. Two games hasn't gotten one in the playoff game that we're his defense allowed five hundred yards and yesterday where they got dominated to the tune of fourteen of eighteen on third down those are dominant pass rushers in the league myles garrett is it dominant. Pass rusher in this league right now. Joey bosa would it. Nick bosa doing the game yesterday. back healthy. I didn't even look to see what what he did. in this game But watch the lions cover late. But we'll give a bosa. Had a sack into quarterback hits so you know we we too many of of our fans watch our games and they don't watch the league right now. Chase young has extraordinary potential. And he's a good player and he had a very good year last year. He's not an elite player yet. Not yet the players. I just mentioned are elite right now. Chandler jones had five sacks for the arizona cardinals as they sacked ryan tannehill six times and they blew out tennessee with cuyler murray accounting for five touchdowns in the game man this division every one of the nfc west teams one in week one. What a division. that division is going to be the. Afc west is going to be. And i think the nfc south is is better than people. Think too but The cardinals man they. I don't know i. I picked him to finish last. I like the other three teams more. But i it's that divisions of a total coin flip any one of the four could win it at a high level where any one of four in the nfc east. I think could win it but not as high of a level. Any thoughts on the cards. Titans titans.

"Up getting stops in the red zone or having chargers make mistakes or interesting officiating calls but they got works buddy watching that game. They don't play by the chargers in a big way and some of that. It probably has to do with the fact that you're ninety year. Old quarterback broke his hip in the game. And you had to play sign. Icke who i think. It'll be fine but didn't get the week of work and that that doesn't help you on offense when you're backup quarterback get the week at work and in the chargers that still really good defense. Joey bosa problem problem. What a player. So let's start with this Let's start on the positive. My the things. I liked in the things that you would say to I'll go first. I thought taylor heineke actually did a pretty good job. And i think what we saw from taylor. Heinecke is what we saw last year in the five quarters that he played the playoff game and the And the in the last quarter against carolina and i rave about this in the preseason game against the bengals i think he does something very high. Nfl level chris and the thing that he does at a very high. Nfl level is that he has really good feel for pressure and escaping it most of the time and when he does he's capable of making some really big plays with With with his feet in terms of his runner. He's much faster than i think. Most people think and he's able to make plays with his arm when he escapes pressure. This is a high level feature to what he is now. I said this during the preseason after the bengals game i'm impressed with his playmaking ability. I think everything else is pretty average. You know. I think he's inaccurate. At times i think he's inconsistent with his accuracy. I think his arm strength is just okay. But i think he throws a catchable ball And you know we've only seen seven plus quarters of this guy so it's really hard for me anyway to be definitive. I'm not suggesting that some of you and maybe you cooley aren't going to say no. I've seen enough. This guy's the real deal for me. I i'd like to see more than seven quarters. But the other positive i would say about him is that he's very decisive. Any certainly doesn't beaten seemed to be rattled or struggling mentally. He seems pretty with it. out there As far as the you know he's got a play. I mean the ryan fitzpatrick injury as were recording this. There's there's not an actual report on it quite yet. And i'm checking. Twitter's were continuing to record this podcast but the reporting is that this could be a serious injury and he could be out for a while if not the year potentially would certainly seem like heinecke is going to get the start. Thursday night against the giants. It's impossible to evaluate fitzpatrick from yesterday's game. He played in three drives and he was under siege from the jump. As was heineke you know. He was sacked once. He was harassed In when he left the game with the injury. I thought and i tweeted out. I've been kinda keys. Mobility and escape ability actually is going to give them a better chance in this game against joey bosa and that defense they couldn't protect yesterday but it's impossible in my opinion to evaluate fits from from the game. But i did think when heineke came in i this is just my my sense that he probably gave them a better chance. Offensively to produce then fitzpatrick did in that gadoe. I i can't. I have not that one. Okay why i. There's a reason. Fitzpatrick was the starting quarterback. And there's a reason that he's been a starting quarterback for six different teams in six different openers like he gives a team a chance. it's just he was kingship. Man just old really are bureau old. It's harder when you're old it kind of strain my quad trying to climb over a fence the other day and i was like and thirty nine stuff fitzpatrick's thirty eight years old that relays in better shape than i am but seriously it's things start to happen at that age. Was tom brady. But i.

Jy does that dude first through third down the highest paid defensive player in the NFL? T J want this week going to play on Sunday, getting paid during the work week What the Steelers opening up on the road today at Buffalo Steelers and Bills meeting in the regular season for a third straight year, Buffalo Winning the previous two meetings against Pittsburgh are Jeremy Fowler joining Darien, Mel Saturday shared his thoughts on watch new deal in Pittsburgh. The Steelers rarely give out more guaranteed money other than just the signing bus the year one money. In fact, they really never do it, TJ. He got $80 million over the first three years. It is all guaranteed. I had to double and triple check that and ask around contract people people involved. I was told Yes, 80 million. He gets a $35 million signing bonus, And then he gets huge base salaries. They're guaranteed for the first three years. And so I'm still shocked that looks like the Steelers relented a little bit, even though they get the extra year. It's really a five year deal. If you consider the year he currently had his rookie deal, they can spread that. It out a little bit, and it's right along the line of where Joey Bosa was a year ago with his money, so it's not obscene. "There's no pop quizzes. Because i know it's not gonna go. Well it's okay. Just i'll pretend like you're kevin and you can just get it wrong and feel like he's here so as we mentioned. The coaches classrooms are going to be now focused on taking a look at our upcoming opponent. this week. It is the washington football team. So kyle took a look at some different aspects of this. I'm curious to see. What did you find here kyle. Yeah so i think the biggest thing everyone was most excited to see this chase. Young rashawn slater matchup And we've heard pretty much ever since the schedule got released and we found out there. We're gonna have washington week one. Everyone has kind of been I dunno intimidated or considering or just like the idea of this defense a front and this pass rush from washington right. They're they're very defensive minded team with obviously with ron rivera. As their coach. that's what he's known They have. They have a really strong front to their defense. So i just wanted to look at. I'm gonna look at a couple of plays of chase young This is the first preseason game of the year. I kind of came to mind right away. This i think this was like the first one of the year and it was on primetime And i watched it in this first series chased as a huge Sack of strip fumble of cam newton. And so i wanted to kind of see what the series looked like An actually looked at watch. Just chasing kind of like i did on our tuesday episode looking at just trae pipkins and just look at a couple of plays and see the differences. What he just with how he how he changes. What an really what he looks like against the run because the reason i think joey bosa is a better all around football player than chase. Young is what he does against run So i wanted to see kind of all those aspects and see how he adds up as a football player now again..

"Is something we're going to be dealing with a little bit but we know the shanahan's early running that offenses it is anyway. They bring in center. Alex mack which can only help. He's on the wrong side of thirty when it comes to your career and all that but again one of the better centers perennially in the nfl year in and year out. They also drafted another offensive guard with their second round. Pick as well. They added trae sermon at the running back position in the third round. Who i think is actually gonna end up making a pretty decent impact over the course of the season. This is one of my favorite teams are legs of the week. If you don't know what a teaser is. You're able to manipulate the line by six points. Typically we're trying to take a seven and a half and eight or an eight and a half down through the key number of seven and through the key number of three or take an underdog of a point and a half two points or two and a half points up through the field goal and the touchdown as underdogs so those are the typical kind of basic strategy. Type things here for that. San francisco favored by seven. And a half and this. When i'm taking it down to a point and a half on parented up with a game that will talk about a little bit later in the rams really really love this leg getting this thing under a field goal so feel really really really confident and good about that. If the forty niners lose this game till the first this first game of the season to the lions then this season is going off the rails as it is anyway. Brad i know you also have a bet on the forty niners in lions Yeah i mean all broadly agree. I think the forty nine is legitimate super bowl contenders the banged up. Like you wouldn't believe last year but the roster elite. The coaching is elite. And yet if they stay healthy they'll be there at the end but with the under here and it basically wasn't huge pay bills basically on how the lines wants to play. I was listening beat reporter made from the athletic and he was he was saying about training camp and preseason news saying they want to kind of run a throwback offense which is run run. Run the occasional shot play and he said but there's no shop place by throwing deep so it's run run run right now. The strength of this team was meant to be offensive. Line drafted penny soule in the first round. They flipped over to right tackle. And the reports are the. He's not playing well at all the aid and play football for a year last year. Be left tackle. Needs these really struggling to make the switch will now. You've got joey bosa in your face so good lower. That it's not like jared goff is is famous for doing anything at all under pressure. I mean i think the drop off from him is going to be monumental. This year model is rookie season in two thousand sixteen before mcvay go hold of him when he was probably a bottom two quarterback in the nfl. So i'll i'll could see loans scoring vitually ten seven points and then the phone is i think if they get if they get lead the little jimmy garoppolo throwing over you you think about it. There have to run the ball just growing the game out. That's kind of what shanahan wants to do is pound you into dust. So i'm calling to come forward to this lawrence team that about eighteen kneecaps season just ground into dust by false superior author and found superior coach steven. This isn't one that you have a play on. But i know that you are a forty niners fan the That this was a team..

"Tha that you can take away from that. But i did want kind of point that out there on the match side slash injury front. You mentioned austin missed. Another practice with the nagging hamstring injury. This is the one that took him out last year and reading between the lines. It doesn't overly great and aside from that like one of ecuador's best traits as as a pass catcher out of the backfield and year one of ron. Rivera event of ocean was top. Five in both receptions and yards allowed to running backs then you have the right tackle bryan blogger dealing with the hip. Flexor injury did return to practice on monday. He's been taking things pretty lightly. Let's monitor that. It would be a big loss. Obviously if he doesn't play or at some point has to be removed from the game because origins defense third in pass. Runway ninth in pressuring if blog is out or can't finish that changes everything we've seen in the past right going back to college football. I know you love this. The first round pick rashawn slater he is able. He's like the only guy in college football. That could actually make chase young. Look like normal human. When ohio state northwestern played each other so suddenly if blog and go you can move chase young around and find him a better match up on the other side so these are some of the reasons that that we've seen some pro money. Start to enter the market here in washington. This week you know it's interesting too because obviously we know. There's a high level of optimism around justin. Herbert you talk about the la times covering that story. And keenan allen saying that justin. Herbert has no ceiling strong praise from veteran receiver. But at the same time you do wonder about the weapons that the chargers have to attack that washington football defense. Meanwhile on the other side of the ball i mean all the talk with discharge teams. How talented this roster was for the last couple seasons and they kind of bottomed out last year gave up more than twenty six points per game. They were twenty third in the nfl in that department twentieth defensive efficiency now i know incomes defensive-minded head coach who spearheaded the rams world-beater defense last year personnel. Not quite the same but getting derwin. James back should help chris. Harris the savvy veteran and strong praise again for another rookie and asante samuel in terms of what he can contribute. Joey bosa back in full. But this is a washington team who in my opinion. Pain gets a massive upgrade at quarterback in ryan fitzpatrick not necessarily as a clubhouse leader or a game manager. But a guy who can actually stretch the field and take advantage of some of the underrated weapons. That washington has on the offensive side. Yes i agree to an extent but for me. There's still some uncertainty on this side as well and and fitzpatrick no-doubt massive upgrade for washington. And i think the question becomes. How large is the upgrade. And that's what's going to lead us to some of potentially the projection inaccuracies as better. Because what is he looked like. Is it the guy that performed last year at a top five rate overall but the reason he was top five last year and a lot of metrics was because he had an anomaly season under pressure which typically isn't replicated. But when you're talking about replacing a dwayne haskins or an alex. Smith in terms of value over average. Haskins was the worst quarterback in the nfl. Alex smith was the second worst. So this is a massive upgrade. Even if ryan fitzpatrick is average to slightly below average. Ni- mentioned this in the preview podcasts. In the nfc east. But it's interesting to me. Because i'm a fan of like human nature stuff and everyone loves ryan fitzpatrick the impossible not to like him and he again. He is an upgrade for washington. But in probably the fedex driver who dropped off your cash after you know first winning week in college. Football is an upgrade over the quarterbacks that washington had last week and you know last year. I when i look at this. And it's just like there's a reason ryan fitzpatrick played for nine different teams. Right the nfl record that yeah and you know when we have seen him have some of his success. Aside from an early season star in tampa where he was absolutely on fire. It is much easier to play any sport across the board. Not just football and quarterback in this instance. If your team doesn't have aspirations are large goals right when you're coming off the bench as a relief pitcher in your team's behind like you can play fast and free because if you off the upset the cock of the walk you've come up short. No biggie. right wasn't your fault. We got behind a couple of scores. So that's that's the difference in this mentality because now your qb one with a team that has high expectations. You won the division last year and now are saying. Hey we gotta take the next step. And you have one of the league's best defense is so from the quarterback position you have a gunslinger but the reality is. You probably need somebody. That just isn't going to hinder the defense. I am all about pushing the ball. Downfield you need to do that. You need to open up the offense a little bit and offense correlates winning for more than defense. But you also don't want a guy that's been known to to throw a bunch of picks put your defense in poor positions. The other thing that. I'm unsure in. This matchup is is brandon staley and obviously all the signs point to staley being fantastic right. All the information i have is that he is one of the upcoming innovators in saying that. I think it's still fair to call him. A one year wonder at this point. Oh i think it's more than fair when you look You know his career trajectory and we talked about it and previewing the nfc west. I'm not gonna disparage the guy But it's not a resume that it's exactly loaded with big league experience to warren having this kind of job with this kind of maybe generational talent at the quarterback position. I mean he was able to last year to coach. Aaron donald jalen ramsey best to players at their position and he also got the face a shit schedule of offenses quarterbacks on his way to landing..

So maybe in a couple of years you'll be a little bit better if you would have won the game draft at number nine but still i mean this is the big difference between a number six draft pick in a number nine draft pick. So if you get somebody at number six which really helps turn your program around which really hurts helps. Turn your team around. Are you still going to be bitching moaning about what doug peterson. Did on sunday night three years ago. I get the washington football team when he put his quarterback. You don't even remember what his name is anymore. You probably don't remember situation anymore. About how bad jalen hurts. Was and the uproar in the just the anger in the venom directed. Doug peterson for making that. Move if you Go ahead and draft the player number six that could turn around your franchise in a couple of years of course not. Yes things now. Your hurts now but the possibility could be could be the best thing for you for an organization. Sometimes the best things that can happen to a professional franchise is negative. It's not always about winning. Sometimes it's about losing. Sometimes you win when you lose as your fortunes can turn around big time when you lose more than you win watching chase young. Who is should be without question the runaway offense of as defensive player of the year rookie of the year. This year has already become a leader of the washington franchise talked about the l. T-word the does he has an opportunity to be in that category if he really maximizes his potential. But this is a guy who's gonna be game changing. This is a guy who had the potential to win multiple defensive player of the year award. This is a guy who could be one of the better defenders in the nfl for years and years to come. I think he could be better than nick. Bosa joey bosa in hell. Least he can stay injury-free enough. We've seen the injury problems with.

"Yeah, good. And then the intercept the interception toward the end when they try to catch or not, But like kids to me, it was your basic. Well, Scott, I'll tell you everything. I'll tell you. I couldn't go and thank you very much for the call. I couldn't agree with you more on that. I think that The letter of the law that is targeting the and I can I can say to the letter of the law. Yeah, that's targeting. I could also say that loss terrible. We do this all the time, and I realized we change laws. No, I don't think they're going to change this. I don't think they're gonna change this rule because of the fear of litigation. You get people in white. You get people in suits and ties together and you get them and they start talking about lawyers. And they start talking about people having class action lawsuits like what happened a couple years ago, and they're gonna get nervous about that. So they're gonna put in a rule, and I think it's patently stupid to throw a guy out of a game for a targeting call or for his first targeting call. Anyway, If you get a second one, you want to go that far fine. If you want to make it a spot file plus 15 yards. You go right on ahead. We make it make it a stiff penalty but throwing him out. I think it was it Was it knicker Joey Bosa that it happened to some years ago, and I thought it was asked tonight when it happened, Then I would say for a lot of college football fans if you're just watching a general game and have no rooting interest in it, you know that 3/4 of three out of four times off what you see is pretty egregious. Yeah, You will see a safety. Try to light a guy up and do something stupid and go headfirst that will happen. That's the one off the other one's there, happenstance. I thought I saw Justin Fields try to spit out of a tackle. Guy was their guy stuck him in his helmet Look like he was gonna have an accordion neck. It was I was nervous. You get nervous for the guy safety. You gotta learn to tackle better. But there's very little that you can do. You can't go in like that to the letter of the law. That's the law. That's the rule. I just like throwing guys out over targeting rules, whether it be this year. With James Cal Ski or last year was Sean weighed in that football game is stupid. Everything they can to playing these games. They put themselves a personal risk. They put themselves a draft. Rhys, You're thrown out of the game. I think it's a dumb dumb rule dot.

McDaniels' RPO Gameplan Starts To Bear Fruit
"I think what we're seeing and I wrote about this just now is just we need to embrace this offense in what it is is that it's a run Centric offense and I think what we were seeing at a Josh McDaniels in particular he deserves a lot of credit for scheming it up in the running game. We've talked a lot about the last couple of weeks defense is playing eight guys in the box with low safeties and kind of King on that run game. So what did McDaniels do this week? You realize that they needed to come up with ways to even the numbers back up. And so he used option runs to use the Wildcat formation a couple of times. He was able to get situations where the page we're seeing an eight-man box. But because of cams legs they were able to even up the numbers with him it being a focal point of the running game. So they also what I thought was really smart as they watched the tape of that Buffalo game and off Joey Bosa just absolutely dominate the game three sacks, right quarterback pressures and get three tackles-for-loss in the Run game on top of all that forced a fumble. So they made him the read defender on all those awful plays. So he's just sitting there trying to read out Cam Newton and instead of getting up the field and blowing them off the ball. He was kind of left in no man's land trying to defend the option place. So really smart kind of wrinkles nearby McDaniels to put both in Conflict throughout the entire game. And then the last one that I kind of went over in that post was the RPO package with the two running backs, which was just really awesome job. Sony Michelle and Damien Harris on the field at the same time and the Patriots are running rpos RPO bubble screens mostly where they have a trap run on the inside and then a bubble screen on the outside and I was just reading that overhang Defender to the weak side of the formation and he's able to kind of decipher. Should I hand it off or throw it out there? They haven't thrown it out there that the screen yet. I'm waiting for them to get that looked to be able to do that. But I just think it's really cool to see how McDaniels is saying. Okay. This is what we are right. We're not going to be this prolific downfield passing attack, especially with the way the cams throwing the ball right now. So I need to scheme it up. I need to figure out ways to make sure that this running game can still go and that's exactly what they were able to do.

First Things First
Jalen Ramsey Active, Will Start for Jaguars vs. Titans After Requesting Trade
"Moving onto jalen Ramsey he wants out of Jacksonville unfortunately for him he will be playing against the dines tonight for Jacksonville in Jacksonville the Jags all pro cornerback has requested a trade but we'll be active again with the trade seemingly coming sometime after the game so C. C. which contender should try to acquire Jalen Ramsey. I don't mean I it doesn't have to be a contender tender for me right now. We only played two games. Everyone's a contender the giants I think we make a quarterback's which we right back into this but I think there are certain places that would be better perform. I think the raiders Jon Gruden got the CAP space. They got a really young teen. They could use the corner play. They could also use a star going to Las Vegas the Tennessee Titans. I do believe coach coons. He was a legendary highschool coach coach at Ohio State. He only coastal hieaux until last year we took the job in Tennessee variable who has experienced at Ohio state went there and got him. He is a great defensive back coach in his hometown there with the Titan the raiders are the titans feel are the smoothest transitions for him for a guy that has that type of skill set big corner wants to play a lot of man to man and as we said before he's from Tennessee and wants to go back there and anytime if you can get a big time star like that in a smaller market like Tennessee yeah I think that they should look into that particularly when he's listed the titans previously before the season as a place he'd like to play sometimes you worry big-time star. Would he be happy going to a small market the size of the market in Jacksonville's not why he's unhappy and because of his roots in Tennessee he has already said Nashville would be a place. He wants to thirty proven that he can get national attention no no matter no matter what I mean he's he's one of the star players in the league and one of the faces of the League that we have on the defensive side of the ball one team you mentioned yesterday for I give a couple of others that that I thought really interesting was Philly Philly. Obviously is a contender philly that is the place where they need. I would argue help the most on the back end of their defense particularly the corners because is I liked now. Come Jenkins. I understand we're talking about phillies injuries those they deal with spate of season ending injuries for Philadelphia with how active Howie Roseman has been and how great he's been at almost manipulating the cap to free up space when they need it you would mention philly yesterday that to me is a really interesting fit. It would be something that if you're the Dallas cowboys and you see wait eagles got who the Eagles got jalen Ramsey at the not even at the deadline a month into the season that could be a game changer. I'M GONNA mention a team no one's attaching them to but I think they have the space the picks they have the need. What about the Los Angeles Angeles chargers now maybe they don't WanNa pay Jalen Ramsey they all they're going to have to pay Joey Bosa two guys but they have the cap space to do it? They they are right now. They know that last year they were this close to being the number one seed in the AFC Derwin James is going to come back at some point at the end of the season they already have an extraordinary corner in Casey Hayward but they're starting a guy who was an undrafted free agent couple years ago at the other corner spot if you added few had Casey Hayward Jalen Ramsey Ramsey winter when James comes back that immediately becomes far and away the best secondary in the NFL well for one next year to pay Joey Bosa Casey's already already making a bunch of money Derwin James you already know you're going to have to pay him now. Both of those guys being from Florida state sometime. You think that oh well. Maybe that would work well. Maybe that might Mike not work so I don't know they haven't been the most contract friendly to their player. Philip rivers doesn't have a contract so to me. That's a lot of money that a team that is not customary to pay a lot of money. I don't think they would have that kind of money tied up in their secondary. Just two more teams quickly obviously yesterday. We talked a lot about the chiefs. It's for the cheap since the best player available at the biggest position of need but I do think the chiefs would have real cap issues with that Patrick mahomes going to become the highest paid player forever a year from now. They paid tyreek Hill. They went they paid frank. Clark may be above market. Sammy Watkins they can get off him next year. If they want to play really well race you're adding the highest paid corner in. NFL history was what Jalen is going to become would be tough to keep an eye on the colts though called I mean the colts have enormous cap space the draft capital. They're obviously going to try to win without being a super explosive offense the culture. If I'm Chris Ballard with Andy I am calling Jacksonville and bill and trying to take their temperature on that but he plays his last game tonight for the Jaguars most likely absolutely that would be my guess about eight players to borough road

Chargers, Melvin Gordon And Ten Million Dollars discussed on SportsCenter AllNight
"Time Joseon adders are reporting the agent for Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has requested a trade because charges are not backing off their offer of ten million per season which represents a roughly twice the salary schedule to make in the final year of his rookie deal they remain at a record you know not wanting to report because he feels like he's valuation is higher than ten million when you have to put that in the context knowing that Todd Gurley right now is what at fourteen point three lay beyond del thirteen one David Johnson at thirteen million my understanding is that the comp that in being out there right now is that David Johnson and Melvin Gordon are similar in terms of how they should be paid and they are definitely still at a gap between those numbers and so right now he's going to stay out until the situation gets resolved nice of Gordon toll charges that if he does not receive a new deal that's acceptable obviously he'll sit out demanded trade he's followed through on both threats Louis Riddick Damien woody Chris Mortensen with insight on how this plays out in if Gordon has any leverage in this hold out he doesn't have the leverage because the charges obviously feels so his replacements is number two or number three players like Austin Meckler Justin Jackson will give them enough of a of a level of production a percentage of production may not equal what number will give them enough to where they have enough other weapons on the field to make up the difference and they're just going to go with the you know one year at a time type of philosophy and if he doesn't like it then they're gonna trade I think he's out on the football team before the regular season starts and hopefully he can find that one suitor who not only is willing to pay a high price to get him but is also willing to pay him long term which is what he's after after lands a former running back and running back coach and the one thing I know by if the land he's very confident that he can find another running back you mention it already the fact that Philip rivers in the last year for the of Joey Bosa is coming up they have players in the pipeline so to think that Melvin Gordon's going to get you know the levy on bail early heard Todd Gurley absolute because are guaranteed a lot of people looking to toggle the contract and is like wool we don't want any part of that so okay Melvin Gordon is in a situation where he's not gonna get paid by the Los Angeles Chargers and more likely he's going to be sued no with another team actually ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details Melvin Gordon's only played one full season out of a source for any is a good back is he an elite back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details but Melvin Gordon's only played one full season of the source for any is a good back is he in the league back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ultimately I think the charges feeling and we talked about this yesterday and make your Damian Moore and and the lens perspective is they do fill like if necessary if gore insanity assigned eventually then you can put them on the market as a team it is the one with the agent do the shopping Eric Williams covers the Chargers for ESPN provided this take on why the charger should find a resolution with Gordon if they have aspirations to make a run in the playoffs he was on Spain and company yeah I mean it's basically a stand off at this point you know Gordon wants to be paid amongst the highest running backs normally he thinks his his statistics over the last couple years point to that he should be pay you know like David Johnson girly let me del the Chargers obviously disagree on that date they are pricey them again according to reports and and I believe they're accurate about ten million per year you mean another structure the contract how much of that is guaranteed how much that is fully guaranteed when he would receive that type of money so those are things that are going on in terms of negotiations to try to get Melvin in the camp I did the things that are promising if both sides want to get a deal done Melvin Gordon wants to play for the charge the Chargers want Melvin Gordon the place so you would think at some point there there would be a compromise that could be made to get Mel in the camp because he remains to be seen you know Melvins representation that told the Chargers that you know that they would demand a trade at the contract demands aren't aren't made the charges are willing to trade him they basically haven't control for the next two to three years due to make five point six million in the following years rookie deal and they get franchise in another couple years no but it is important in terms of where the charge you want to go in the post season they can win games without knowing the crew that last year they want **** when no one was injured the issue is is can they want simple without melon and I think the answer probably is no and so I think that does give me a little bit of leverage yeah well he might want to look Gordon at levy on bell scenario the now jets running back doesn't second guess himself for sitting out last season a decision that cost them fourteen million in salary he did say you wish you could have told fantasy owners some type of way to not draft him or pick him never made it on the field

Which college produces the best NFL talent?
"A special edition of N._F._l.. Live on deck today at the N._F._l.. Celebrates one hundred season just six weeks away however we are just five weeks away in college. Football Opens It one hundred fiftieth the anniversary so today welcome N._F._l.. You were combining the two worlds to answer age-old question what college produces the best n._F._l.. Talent however I'm Wendy net sand Hutus here you know what's better to be on this panel our expert notice icy expert telling me when Lewis Minute of her panter on the list not on the House for back the quarterback guru he and his brother in a lot of N._F._l.. Games James A lot and Ryan Clark. You see the L. L._S._U.. They are ills college football. L. Is Jonathan Vilma bike. He will join US shortly. He happened to win a National Championship and Oh by the way a super bowl as well coming up on N._F._l.. Live will break down position by position which college produces the best quarterback Oklahoma has the number one overall pick the last two years we have the top ten plays all the N._F._l.. Superstars when they were in college and answering big question which school produces the best all time N._F._l.. Talent we had to ask the players themselves to kick things off. We're the first pick quarterback Oklahoma Viva say Oklahoma Alabama Clemson because proven it is one atop factory the Ohio state highest in Alabama. 'cause I never lost beat out. You really can't understand it into your inside. Sadness programming is all about the you for N._F._l.. Because of Georgia in every aspect but I think L._S._U.. CRESA environment of gray competition and guys is trying to feed off of IT University of Pittsburgh. You Got Dorset. Dan Marina you got Larry. Fitzgerald was not a me show. It's about having everybody involved in working for the Sandal clumps in would cushman he's been doing. He's making people believe everything is possible for House is the best our stop it. Stop stuff well. Let's start shall we with the most players from each college currently in the N._F._l.. Alabama leads the way with V with sixty five players players followed by Ohio state in second place with fifty eight so we're going to debate these schools I in terms of who is best at producing N._F._l.. Challenge here's a tale of the tape on Alabama at Ohio state success since the two thousand draft folks tools I have had thirty one first round picks the most of any school while the Buckeyes have thirteen more total picks in the last twenty drafts but Bama's players have been slightly more successful in the league producing three more pro bowlers than Ohio St Louis Rick. Let's start with with the crimson tide. They're starting eleven if you will offense and defense current N._F._l.. Talent there's any question that these are both very impressive lineups that if Alabama can roll these teams out there right now now. I think they'd win a few games without a doubt. If you look at the offense aside outside of the ball the first thing that jumps out of these starting eleven are the two wide receivers look Julio. Jones is one of the finest athletes in the N._F._l.. For guardless of position he's in the news right now because he's about to get a new contract extension and he's really one of the he's one of the transcendent players at the position that this game the scene Amari Cooper the same way. When Amari came out of college? I remember doing his tape in thinking point honestly as far as catching one pet and run wide receiver. I hadn't seen one as good as him as him. In a long long time on the defensive side look they have fine players throughout the eleven here really that when you get to the secondary and you guys like Eddie Jackson Landon Collins I mean these guys are disband tastic players on the front dont`a hightower our multiple time superbowl winner. These are great great players right here. Make our way to Columbus shower of the to Ohio state you go to the offense side of the football. Look the first thing that jumps out without a doubt as Ezekiel Elliott because if he's not the best running back in the N._F._l.. He would be considered a top three running back in the N._F._l.. Wide Receiver Michael Thomas Really someone who was unheralded coming out of college. He's a tremendous tremendous. Pro will probably be the highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. In short time then move over to the defensive side of the ball this this is where really this football team really kind of jumps off the board starting up Front Joey Bosa Cam Hayward those are two of the best defense alignment in the N._F._l.. Right now and then when you look down there at the Secondary Malcolm Dyson Dinkins Denzel Ward Marshon Lattimore doesn't let's get much better than that. All right Jonathan Vilma made his way again surly qualified to weigh in on this discussion. Look I mean there's a shortage of talent with either of these squads. It's almost ridiculous factory and a lot of ways both of these institutions but let the debate again a Ryan Clark. You can't pick L._S._U.. Just yet but when you look at this group what stands out L._S._U.'s better than both of these things we're gonNA get to that. We're supposed to be talking outlets. Let's be honest. There's amazing players. Neither one of them have a quarterback right before proven yet though little I mean why don't we always have to see something first before we can get you well Ray Richardson running back right you saw God compare that with you why time gentlemen we're GonNa play Nice Got Ninety minutes ago. You're the Glenn Difference from every other position that we're looking at okay fair enough now back to you Louis. It is a production results oriented industry. Is it not so it is fair to say seeing something. Does one believe they'll be success won't sure but I mean we're we'll see this is kind of like a combination of what they have done in college. What some of these guys have done in the pros in some of it's a little bit of projecting about what they're gonNA continue to do in the pros? That's how I'm going to expand it to that all right so at quarterback quarterback Dwayne Haskins I believe right now. There's no comparison as far as I don't care what A._J.. McCarron did it Alabama cows tape. Those Wayne has close exact Haskins is going to be a fine football player. What's going to happen to him? Really is going to be more predicated on what Washington redskins overall due to him then what he does to himself. I firmly believe that as far as these rousers overall look the wide receiver position Julio Jones Amari Cooper. Julio Jones's the standard if you go and look N._F._l.. For an offices and look in their scouting books books every team has a standard at every position that they put for scouts the suit for as far as whenever when their scouting people polio is going to be on that list for for many many teams he's about as good as it gets so skill positions at Alabama are awesome. The defensive players at Ohio State is what stands out for me as far as their front seven is concerned particularly their defensive line and their secondary Denzel Award Marshon Lattimore. You tell me a team that wouldn't take those two young men right now and startled. Let me ask you a specific question since you spend some time as an analyst watching these players at the collegiate level if you had to choose either of this group Alabama Ohio state who's players really got better or who took a bigger step forward than you anticipated when they got to the N._F._l.. Out To you to dance your last part no neither standout. They're pretty equal because watching these guys watching Jonathan Allen he played okay well Dante. I'll tell you knew who is going to be tremendous player defensive player C._J.. Moseley's same thing and then you go to the other side and you look at Joey Bosa Nick Bosa Darren like Malcolm Jenkins. I play with Malcolm Jenkins in in New Orleans knew he was going to be a study. He's Philistine but what is surprising how fast or House they defense is. I did not realize how fast defensive you think big ten you didn't big Brawley guys not so fast but these guys can move joey. Bosa also can move nick volks in Darren League. We know the Burner Malcolm J. Denzel War March. I mean that is a very very talented athletic fast fast defense. I thought I was going to jump in your rookie. I think that's a great question Wendy about as far as what teams teams have players that have gotten better pros. You look at Ohio state this look at their offense. In particular Michael. Thomas was a good wide receiver to hire Stayton. He's fantastic now. He's GonNa be highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. Andrew Norwell most people wouldn't even know Andrew Norwell well what from Andrew Doorbell he right now just judge Moore Norwell can't open open some N._F._l.. Spectacular and even on the defensive side of the ball. I didn't think Marshon lattimore. I've liked Marshon Lattimore at Ohio state. I didn't love Marcet. He has taken his game to another level as well in the really own Alabama side you know how I feel about Alabama I feel nick and what he does and how he builds his program but really focus on their offense align that was just look okay and think about that question. Wendy Wendy asked how many players have gotten better how many have continued to improve Andre Smith may have his best days at Alabama. Dame's carpenter has really been good pro Brian Kelly the jury still out he could be a he's a good player. He's GonNa play already in Indianapolis D._J.. fluker was he ever ever really that guy that dominant guy no. He hasn't been Cam Robinson. Have you seen story so it's interesting because they're preventing people have been many people who've hit Alabama and said they get the best out of their players at Alabama. Maybe it's good discussion legal where people go by what teams there drafted so we look at Michael Thomas he falls into a place where he needs an accurate passer and he's one of the most accurate passers all the time also about the place you land in ashore and how they develop you ask Josh Rosen he absolutely he knows that all too well. I ten Hasselbeck. The whole point of this is to pick one of our producers here a little bit we talked. I'm going Alabama mainly change quarterbacks. Yeah I think looks great point about the offensive line at Alabama because so many of them when you look at them just in terms of body type you're like Oh my God look at those guys body type wise but like I don't know that some of those guys have come in and be like Oh and they got a whole lot better. We're obviously splitting hairs here on this ongoing Alabama Lewis Sorry Nick. Oh from a hustle change your mind or did you stick the way said one because I don't care if between Haskins hasn't played. I think he's I think he's in the saints. Stratosphere is A._J.. McCarron so I like that I liked it their offense of line one of the things that talked about how they develop those guys on the defense aside but they're fun four plus their secondary this going with them Ryan Clark you have to pick one while I was brought here for one reason in one reason only when the Knicks because everyone knew it my answers it would be and what Tim Hasselbeck has proven is. You don't need a quarterback. That's really he's GonNa be Ohio state in Alabama that don't have quarterbacks guess what we don't need a quarterback back and by the way you don't want our first off was good enough for Bill Belichick your boy to draft him as Tom Brady's heir-apparent draft. We thought they they went to L._S._U.. Because this guy has what they decided to we throwing the ball all around the field Andrew Whitworth he's played a thousand years. There's a Guy Jerry go look at the Neil hundred may has like negative two percent body fat Michael Broncos out. There aren't key. We gotta wait on them but it's are are you at the back of position. That's all we got mad. I gotTa get here all even have to work conviction when you spoke scissors. I'm sorry I just so tim. I love your twenty. Two question your toughness Whoa West I've seen because as you know what fair enough he's at Alabama alum landon dare you wait into the circus that we've created. But what do you have to say about this. Whole debate ain't Ryan got some good good good stuff going on say? I wouldn't question his toughness at all. I don't know why you questioned Ryan toughness. I saw him not got a lot of Alabama's always number one no matter Corolla tyrod. Let me ask you a serious question. You know obviously nick. Sabin is a hall of Famer one of the best ever coach this game but specifically what does he do that has allowed such historic success at the university. Steve Alabama <hes> as a coach he speaks for as a coach. He represents his players as players coach. I would say he makes all this coach. All the players are on the him as a player as a father <hes> <hes> and as a as many tried to teach us they'd be a man and a great play all at one time you know so he does it all leading. Can you please tell the people why you are now better that you have trusted your career training with the guy from L._S._U.. Hey right you agreed trying to grow been gone on gone for years

Nick Bosa: Withdrawing from school to prepare for draft
"Way, when you know, what's coming down the pike as far as the NFL draft and the type of contract that you'll be able to secure for yourself and your family. So football is big business and these players have to make business decisions for themselves as well analyst Damien Woody with us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. Get triple action protection for optimal engine performance with Shelby power nitro plus premium gasoline, wood, man, we were talking about this the last hour before you came on you, right? We've all known this is a big business forever. It feels like the players are finally in college football specific. I'm talking about are finally realizing, hey, we are the big business and they're beginning to understand, especially the top players how much leverage in power. They actually have. Absolutely tray. Because I mean understand this. You're talking about college football now where some OT billion dollar business. Do the schools everyone is making money in this in this whole deal except the players the school the administration the head coach athletic director, everyone is making huge amounts of money except for the player. So I think we're finally starting to see awakening from from the the, quote, unquote, labor out there that you know, what without us. There would be no multi billion dollar enterprise that is college football. And he's got a starting to make smart business decisions for themselves. Talking to Damien Woody with us.
