"Hey everyone and welcome back for the final segment here on the gmc baseball podcasts. Jack ride our still with you in the previous segment. I got right into sharing which teams that have been. Playing well in struggling will be able to translate that play over in the season or can turn things around before the season starts. But i want to wrap up. Today's show ranking and really predicting teams. I think will be the top ten worst teams in the. Mlb this season. So i'll start from ten and work my way all the way down to one now the first couple teams. There are a little iffy for me. Ten through seven. I don't really know how to rank these. I think six through one. It's a little bit more of an accurate representation. What ten through seven there are a little up in the air for me so starting at number ten. I'm gonna say the giants i gonna say. Giants are going to be the tenth worth team in baseball this year. I don't know what to think of the giants. The giants are kind of again. They have now become the the the best little brother if you will in the nfl west between all the other teams and really again. You've got now the padres. And the dodgers are kind of in that new category of big brother over little brother if you will. And as a result. I think that the giants have now become that other team that you know amongst them in the diamondbacks in the rockies there kind of the best team out of that three but they're just not quite to the point where they where the where. The padres are the not quite to the point. Where the dodgers are. They're kind of a different spot right now. And i think that they're are actually going to be on the open up sooner than we think because again there's a lot of guys on this team have contracts coming up. Got brand crawford who's contracts coming up soon brandon belt contract is coming up very very soon you jetsam margins contract which will free up ninety million dollars and cap room so you're going to have a lot of deals. They're going to start coming up sooner rather than later now. I think they also have some other players. That pay very close attention to joey. Bart joey bark did not hit will last year at two thirty three at only seven. Rbi's and depending on what buster posey does this year. I hope that he comes back in place. I haven't really heard anything. I haven't heard one way or the other but i hope that he's able to come back and play and the reason that is is because i want to see posey that mentor for bart to help bart get to be where posey is at. This point is career or at least where he's been in his career because bart's twenty three years old. I mean he's a young player. he's got a lot of time ahead of him and so he could be really really good now. Once brandon belts contract is up. That's going to be an interesting void to fill over at third base. I mean this was a guy that a year ago. Nine homers thirty. Rbi's batted three. Oh nine and had a one seventy nine. Ps plus while playing and fifty one of the games so he had a really good season brand crawford. When he's contract goes up you know. They're going to the shortstop position. I wouldn't be shocked if a team or one of the big time shortstops in the free agent market wind up becoming a giant. I really could see that happening. And so i. I'm wondering what they're going to do in the long term. I think that they could slow quietly building themselves up into a really really good team but ultimately. I don't think they're going to be very good this year. So i've got them coming in the tenth worst team in baseball but then coming in at number nine orioles another team. Very i think the counterpart in the east to the giants. They're a team that eventually i think is going to be good. They've got young talent. That can be really really good. That has the potential in that has already shown that as well. I mean they've literally they've shown that ability early on especially last year. I mean i was very surprised with them. In the first couple of seasons or in the first couple of weeks of the season i was very very impressed with how well they were playing. Really just how well they were. They were doing overall. And as you know as a result they slowly kind of fizzled out towards the end of the season rightfully so just because. I don't think that they're at that point quite yet. But they've got guys that can play at a very very high level you know. They've got guys that are going to be coming up through the the farm system that are going to be really really good. And i think that guy's hands are all bird. He could be a really good piece for them. Guys like ryan mountcastle. Who's going to be one of the best up and coming players in baseball. In my opinion he could be another guy that has a major season for them. Batted three thirty three last year with five homers and twenty three twenty. Three years old just like joey bard is and. I think that they've got some really talented players. But i just don't think that it's they're there at that point quite yet. I think that they still have a little bit of time until they can really put together a winning team. I think that they still have a couple of things that they need to work out. But all in all. I'm i'm i'm hopeful for their future but not really right now now getting in a number eight. I've got the miami marlins again. They actually out of the three teams. That i've just mentioned they have some of the most potential to be really good this year and i know it might not seem like they'll be good because of coup they're going to be going up against the division but they've got some of the best young pitching i think across the board in baseball. I mean they've got guys. Are i mean sandy alkatiri. He's twenty four years old six zero sanchez. He's twenty one to twenty one years old at twenty four years old pablo lopez is twenty four years old. He had a three point six. Era alcantara had three area last year. Six inches had a three point four last year. They're pitching across. The board was very good. They don't have one guy that's over. The age of twenty five started in a game for them last season. So that tells you a lot about their pitching in where it's kind of going. And i think that they made some good they well. They didn't make great moves. I mean they were kinda quite got. Adam duvall so i think you'll add some good hitting in the outfield with sterling martin. I don't know what to think of corey dickerson. Because half the time is injured and the other half the time he's hitting well and then all of a sudden he's not hitting well and he's injured it's always a big question mark for corey dickerson in my opinion. And so i do think that you know if he can be good and if they can get guys like miguel rojo's playing well and hayes his aguilar playing well they might be a better team than one might think but right now i just don't see it. I don't see them being that good this year and then coming at number seven the diamondbacks. I'm really really really concerned for them. Because that is on the injured reserve list right now he might be out for a little while..

Adam duvall corey dickerson joey bard ryan mountcastle miguel rojo Six inches fifty last year bart nine Ten ten tenth one seven sandy alkatiri ninety million dollars twenty one years Today twenty three

"Tony always sends me down there to do those those trainers with the players and falls on Caylor. Dude, the balls on Taylor should not be understated. But here's the funny little road real quick. Those men and I will write those. Well, the session will write all of them right and then Like location. I don't I don't. I don't know if you're gonna be able to pull this off, but go for it. If you feel that if the vibe feels good, and then I hear down the line is a recording and CNN trying to finesse it with like a Linthicum or Judy asked Bo cheated. Have both you do a letter saying that my dome is large and I love we used to play it. Yeah, and we wrote that we wrote that thinking There's no chance in hell he's gonna want to do that, you know, but you get the Innocence of a killer and you know, and it just appeals to them If I'm in there, I don't think it's happening. Right. Same here. They're screaming doors in my face. If I try that I read both see this line. I said, Hey, you know, I think it be really fun if you did, you know. Hey, Bruce Boat you here, and yeah, my dome is large, You know, like like, I think of the listeners would love it. And he looks at it. And then he looks at his handler is, you know, publicists and just like is shaking this I going like who the does this kid think he is? And then he reads it. And it was gold is go. Hey, this is Giants manager Bruce Bochy. And, yes. My dome is large now back to the game on KNBR 6 80 Shut up, Bruce Poaching the king of all time. I truly love that, man. I I always will. Hey, guys, you know, on that note on the ponies, you should get a booty jersey Dude, you really you really getting it? But you should think about getting a boat. She jersey That's a very, very good call. How about just a shirt? Z. No. Yeah, but T shirt would poaching. So Yeah, which they do make, you know, I'm just not that I'm not a Big jersey guy anymore. That's kind of the thing. I don't feel like a total tool walking around. And although the boat she kind of gives me a free pass totally. Yeah, Another date on some marja. He's nowhere to be found at the moment. Oh, I'm surprised. I think he's think he's playing the Cayman Islands or the Maldives or something. Or don't you think he could be like effective relief pitcher or something? I'm surprised. I think you'd rather talk about sex. Okay, Well, remember, he was excited for Notre Dame maybes, maybes going to suit up for the red and gold. Hey, whatever it takes, But I wish you have some argue well, and guys on that note. We should say just to share this with anybody. We're very happy today. On March 10th 2021 to announce the San Francisco Giants and came BR, which includes you, Creative, Tony. And you, Shannon killer. The innocents of a killer like Tony just said that we will extend our relationship with the Giants for four more years, four months. Four years, So NPR will continue to be the home of San Francisco John Baseball deep into the Farhaan era. Tony it will last that long, won't it heads far. Heads unite! Come on. By the end of that deal. By the end of that four year deal. Will the Giants have at least a playoff appearance or won't will far hunt still be with the Giants? What do you think? Something serious? Like you are the Giants of playoff team within the next four seasons. Yes, Shannon. Yeah. Yeah. I think their playoff team e. I also think they're gonna surprise some people this year. I do too. I think I think this could be an interesting year. Actually. Does anybody else While we're hearing all about Ramos and all these new guys, they're They're on their way. Yeah, they're on their way. Does anybody else get the feeling like it's a PR tactic to diverge us away from looking at the fact that they don't have any stars? No, I think you I think people are reacting to what they're seeing down in spring, and they kid Ramos is I mean he's launching balls. He had a ball yesterday against Milwaukee that was so far out of the park that the kids had to run up and over a hill. Go find it. Now watch it was such a bomb. Duggar, by the way, a couple back to back days of opposite field home runs like I'm kind of a Tucker guy. Quietly. The defense. Yeah, and it's again. It's only spring, So it's like you take it with the greatest salt, But I mean, I will stand by this. I do think Farhaan has an eye for talent. Yeah, I just I just I will. I will believe that you know, for the rest of my days, but We have to, I think recalling it requires patients on and I think that this kid Ramos is a legit power hitter. I'm sure he's got holes in his swing. I'm sure they'll be exploited by watching film. But it is exciting. We're talking about this young talent. This crop like you mentioned Ramos, just crushing balls. Can't wait to see this kid come up and everything when it's right. But on that note, did you guys think that it was odd that because Murphy, I've talked about this a bunch of times like that Joey Barton has been positioned. To cut it. I mean, I mean, really, I think the original thought was Joey Bard is going to be a great player in the bigs. Hopefully, and he will be the guy to kind of take Buster Posey's place when it's time for Buster Buster to move on. And then last year, you know, whatever he comes up. It wasn't great. I still love this kid. I love Joe. But I think once you're in the same room with him, you feel his. He kind of reminds me of a veteran, even though he's so young, like he just got this poise about him, but I thought it was very interesting that they drafted Patrick Bailey. Who's the catcher is well, and I just wonder what that means. And if you guys have any thoughts about that, does that mean do you get the feeling like Joey Part is almost like on the hot seat. Or maybe they would deal him or what is it? Patrick Bailey Thing Mean to Joey Bart? I think we've learned watching far hands moves that he hedges his bets on everything. Yes, I mean, he stockpiles everything. You look at how many starters they have now how many relievers I mean, They're one of the very few teams to be really getting close to maxing out. How many players are in their camp right now? It's 75, you know, so he really does double down on stuff. So I don't really know if that means anything that Patrick Bailey is there. I do think that you're right, Paul that he's going to be great. He got hurried last year. There wasn't anywhere else for him to play and they needed him. So I think we can pass away last year and what happened and he struggled a little bit fine. Let him go to work. Let him have a year and triple A and then show us what's happening. Other guy Tony, I wanted to pick your brain about is one of our young arms who again now this kid had like there's a lot of high hopes around him, especially a few years ago is Tyler Beatty and I'm wondering A kind of where he is in his development. And Tony, I always go to you with the picture questions, do you? I don't know. What do you expect me? Just put it this way. Also, leave a wide open. What do you expect from him? And what do you hope from him? Tyler Beatty coming off Tommy John, and everything. I actually I think it will be. Um uh, pleased. I don't know if he's gonna I don't know we'll have, like, just amazing season, but I do actually, his dad. Is also a long time baseball coach and his dad's actually a really good follow on Twitter, Walter back in Mass, his father or New Hampshire, or whatever I do, I'm not sure. I think so. Like a lot of his posts, or like about make sure you play multiple sports, Make sure you don't fall for the club baseball, you know, um, routine and And I just think that.

"I read you guys a story, John show for 10 with seven strikeouts And in Clayton Kershaw. I'm particularly played with him, You know, he seemed to be pressing seem to be starting to swing it. Everything. However, he did draw walk of Kenley Jansen has lasted bat. And then you guys talk to him Kaplan and got extensive quotes from him that we've been playing this morning. Senator even around awhile, man, Um, your read on Enjoy Burt's Siri's. What does it mean? Well, it means that for one thing, you're never going to see the kind of major league pitching down in any kind of Sacramento camp or even triple A to be honest. I mean, he is space. Not some of the pictures you have struck him out have really, really good thinkers, sliders, stuff that can go down and in and that's where they're getting them out. It just doesn't take a long time in the major leagues to find the guy's whole and that's that's where they're going to Dillon Floro guy with a sinker, but that he had. I mean, it just it almost wasn't fair. So what's gonna have to happen is that he is going to have to work with the hitting coach is to identify that pitch. And lay off on. He's gonna have to wait for mistakes over the plate pitches out over the plate, and when you're pressing and you're trying to make an impression on your that young, it's hard. Not just with those pitches. Now. The question is how much commitment how much looking men are that Joey's gonna make letting him die out there until he figures it out, Kappler said. You probably ran this quote. You're going to see 15 20 if that's what he's going to get abused. Ah, and that just happens with young players. And it's happened to other young players who've been called up this year. And, you know, I mean, in the past, like I think you've seen they bring up a guy and you know, he has a stretch like that. They send them back down. But I think that the idea was to bring them up and keep him up because he's gonna have to learn He's gonna have to figure this out. And this is the laboratory where he's gonna have to figure it out. So it will be curious to see what happens over this weekend and moving into next week. And you know that the Diamondbacks don't have the pitching that the Dodgers do so interesting to see what happens. A sui Ken goes on. Well, speaking of the dime bag pitching just real quick. I mean, first, they've lost eight in a row was unbelievable. Second of all, I mean, I was reading Diamondbacks dot com and there's a chance Bumgarner makes his return this weekend. Had you been following that? Well, I it It was my understanding that he was going to throw a simulated being this weekend. He did last under You know he was going to throw another one. So I had not heard that, Uh, last night was that he was going through the same game and wasn't going to face the The Giants, but I mean, that was a couple of days ago, so I don't know if they honestly changed that. I know that. You know, I know he wants to face the Giants story alive, Although said so. I wish I could give you a better answer on okay. If you don't, That's fine again. I'm just kind of poking around Diamondbacks dot com. It says Here's Do you know Steve Gilbert from T Vexed? I do know that Gilbert Yeah, you feel he wrote, that s O. That gives this guy Merrill Kelly is out for the year bright clot in his shoulder there their best picture so far their best picture. According to this, Steve wasn't named Steve, Meryl's and Steve Gilbert. He says Madison Bumgarner could take Kelly spot in the rotation when it comes up Saturday. The left hander who was on the injured list. Threw a bullpen session Wednesday. So It's out there. Gilbert says that we got to roll it out there, Henry, right. Oh, absolutely. He's a good reporter. And so what? So my understanding, So this is maybe what happened. My understanding was that Saturday was when he was supposed to throw. He's supposed to throw a simulated game and maybe they're getting together. This has happened with the Giants before, too. You know where they want to give a guy another simulated game. He talks them into going. I don't need it any way you can just put me out there. Ah, And you know if that's what Steve is saying, then I'm willing to bet that Madison Bumgarner he is in love alos office with the door locked, you know, with a bar over the door with You know, with the light shining in his eyes like a World war to interrogation. You're not leaving until I catch against the Giants Saturday. Well, and I want it to Henry. We were saying the Johns might tuck a bib in and run up to the plate the way first of all the way they hit lefties. And second of all the way Bumgarner stuff looks. They're like, Come on, let's go, right? Yeah. You know, you look, you know you have a back injury and he probably had that back injury before they took him out of that game. And I mean, look. He's not a teacher, he waas in terms of velocity. We talked about Kershaw. You know it's the same deal. I mean, you lose velocity over time, but but there's a reason if you go from 92 92. And then all of a sudden, over one season, you're going 87 to 89. That just doesn't happen over one season. Unless you're hurt. Itjust doesn't so you know, he must. They have something going on with that with the back or the arm that that you know, he wasn't telling anybody about Or that we, you know, or or that he you know, Yeah, that he refused to tell anybody about and I would suspect that if he comes back, you'll see those nineties and 90 one's again and if he's got that cutter the way he throws it Actually, Honey, I knew my ill do my bomb invitation. He's talking to us. He's asking us questions. What do you guys call you Call that my cutter on my slider, tort, joking with us when we go out this week. I guess we call it the gutter and he goes. Okay. I'll go with that. Yeah, maybe. Missy, wait, you're going. If you got that If you've got that going, any throwing 92 92, then he's a bungler. Yeah, so, man. Well, that would be a good story, at least for sure, man. So all right, well, ah, Joey Bard is a topic for sure. And I guess the last one we gotta ask you about obviously is the trade deadline and Henry to trade deadline unlike any other we don't. I mean, I guess the bottom. The basic question hovering over it all is will teams who want to win a World Series be willing to part with value to win a quote unquote fake world. Siri's good question. Well, they're they're two things against it. Once you're only gonna get the player for a month, and even then you're gonna have to wait through an intake process just like the beginning of the season. So you trade for Kevin Dodman. Normally you might be able to squeeze six starch out of them will now might be five. And the same with position players. You might lose a few days and second of all, this is something a lot of people haven't talked about. They're going to be a lot of teams dumping players, non tendering players, because every all these teams have lost all this money. They're not going to want to be paying arbitration salaries, the players so you may have a huge free agent class. Guys in the winner and and that's going to drive. Market pressure is down. You have to things like that just straightaway. So what I mean, what is a real motivation?.

"Now more cap with the skipper of the Giants before the Giants and Dodgers play to here at Oracle Park and the Dodgers coming in with the best record in the majors. The Giants a hot team, though, and that game on Tuesday night, the memories of that kind of stayed with you through The night and through the next day, because there was so many exciting and dramatic things that happened in that game. One of the things that stuck out to me the Jazz came from behind four different times in the same game. The Dodgers had three blown saves in the same game. All of these have to be a point of pride for the Giants and the Giants offense in particular. Yeah, and I think our our team has shown that they're toss there. They're not going to be Defeated early in the game, and oftentimes you see that with teams where they go down three or four runs early in the game, and you just can't They can't battle back. And so our team has continually showed that you have that fight in them. And that's from game to game. But it's also in game and I think that's what happened in the game. That your your references and it was a game where Joey Bard after all, of the great things that had happened with him, and that he had accomplished in his first few games All of a sudden, he kind of looked like a rookie back there. He had various problems behind the plate. He had some moments with the the pictures in terms of Ah, not being together with what they wanted and what he was calling for. How would you assess his game on Tuesday night was a tough game. And I think it's good when you can just kind of bring lights of the fact that you have Ah, very, very young and experience Catcher. Who is learning a lot and learning it all on the fly. So we prepared him as much as as we could while he was in the alternate site, Sacramento But that doesn't really get you ready for Getting kind of punched in the mouth at the major league level with everything on the line. So thankfully, we got through a tough game for Joey Barton, where he struggled in a couple of different areas. We won the baseball game and we were able to just chalk it up as a great developmental experience and one that I think will make him better knowing the Giants and the Dodgers are going to play 2 to 7 inning games here at Oracle Park, and that's the gate Capital Show for today. "And he is Ah Ah, Hall of Fame catcher and You also also like very, very calm, So I'm not saying that Joey's is going to be buster, but a lot of the calmness and and relax nature. That Buster brings in a ballpark every day job kind of bring some of that as well. Okay, I like that comparison. A and B. I like that. My catcher is calm, Cool. Collected right, elected, my guys, not a hothead elected. My guy will stand up for what he needs to stand up for. We haven't seen. Obviously that happened yet, even though the may be high and tight nature of the shot Anderson fastball again, Yes, but it was a bit of a controversy, and we'll talk about that a little later with some or sound, but I like that He's measured. I like that. He's cool that he's collected that he's a guy who's not going to get to higher too low and again. We have not. In the full range of emotions yet from Joey Bar, But if that's the impression guys in the building are getting from him that he's got the the cool, calm confidence that Buster Posey has. I think we're all positive about that. I think we're happy about that. More people check it out in the cast pretext about San Francisco Giants. You have worn number 21 for await, says they were the one who gave us the Freddy Sanchez 95 is 21 a Ray Adriana. I think that's bad knowledge. I think every had rounds were like number one and number like 13. I will have to look that up. But I had 9 to 5. I appreciate you checking in. I just I don't think you're right about that with a ray. Certainly not as a giant anyway, more here from Joey Barton, now Joey Bart sits down at the zoom post game press conference. Is what he has to say about catching Gossman. We were talking about the pitch, calling the pitch selection was talking to the Waterboy about how he doesn't hold his his location, and I get to in that when there's nobody on second when there's a guy on second, but it looked. It was a little different. You've got, like, cross that maybe early on, but Joey Bar What was it like to be out there, catching the Giants number two starter Kevin Gausman. No, I was just really excited. And so I, you know Really just Kind of driven and really tried to, you know, lock in my game plan with Kevin and Put together something good for him and obviously showed that and I just I just wanted to be on top of things for him, You know, because You know, he stars every day or the most important thing for me and give them locked in their game. So No. So I feel good. I felt I had a lot of fun, you know, And I'm going to continue to have more fun. What Giving for Joey partner, Little Devil Nick boast that his voice now it'll fit like he's kind of doesn't open his mouth the whole lot, but I like this. I'd like T shirt that he's come. Another number to picnic. Bo's A right. Little calm. Collected dude. More from Joey Bard here. Anybody give you advice? First day in the big leagues? Who gave you the most advice? Uh, yeah, I mean, Other than Bill, Not really anyone here? Just, you know, just some old coaches through the years just messing with me telling you not to screw it up. So you know, just just guys that I care about a lot and there have been been Ah, you know they're for me and tell me a lot about the game, but No, no no one other than build on the Giants about that Brenda belts. The guy was like, Welcome to the show, kid a little bit of advice, and this is stuff he's gonna have to learn at this level. I've also wondered like haven't become used to our have being a major league baseball player become the norm in a non normal season. Right, like he's trying to pick up habits and routines in a way that maybe totally different for how he goes about the rest of his career. But that's the adjustment. Everybody's making now. Another one here from Bart, When you're back, they're catching. You know, we heard stuff about maybe trying to move him to first to get him some work elsewhere. But catching is what the Giants crafted him to do. How do you feel behind the plate right now? Yeah, I thought, okay, you know, It's been a little while since I've caught, you know, obviously these guys So, um, you know things change here there, but, you know, moving forward the the Morrigan kitsch pictures and figure out you know what they're doing and what they like to do, and And what makes them sexy. Then you know, I feel more comfortable, but, yeah, I mean, I felt pretty good. I mean, you know, I can't complain. I had a blast. I try, you know, soak up all of it, and, ah And it was a good time, but you know, it's just time to put my head down and get to work and, you know, work on my game and, you know, try to come out and be the The best player I can be and for this team, and you know and Just moving forward. Just, you know, keep my head down and keep working. Yeah, And you know something that we 0.2 with Buster Posey. A lot is when the bat's not working in the bed hasn't been the same. It was for a number of years. When the bat is not working. You can never count him out as a catcher. You can't say Well, he's not working, not working. He's the bat isn't coming through right now. And so his defense takes a hit, or he's not focused on catching. That's one thing. Catchers have to deal with more than any position in baseball, because you've gotta worry about hitting. You gotta worry about being an asset and you've got a handle a pitching staff. You've got to be able to go over four with four strikeouts and say, All right, but I've gotta buckle down and make sure no balls. Goodbye. Me. I've got to stay focused on my picture here. I've got to get him through a tough inning. I can't be dealing with my own stuff right now. I'm looked at to handle the staff, too. Handle the infield to direct traffic, but also to make sure that I'm driving in runs in and Joey Barton's gonna have to do that. So the question is when you're back there catching and you're worried about focusing on Kevin Gausman and getting out Mike trout getting out rundown and getting out Shohei Otani. Are you concerned about hitting because he went hitless in your first couple of bats? Do you find any balance there? Was there any concern about getting a hit last night? I wasn't really stressed about getting hit and I knew, you know, I just got to keep going up there and, you know, try make good selections and just do, you know, do what I do and try Get the ball hard and No. I got a good pitch to hit it and hit it hard. So I was really happy about that. But really, you know, getting ah, the defense of size. Definitely What stays in my mind more than you know what I'm doing at the plate, you know? Like I always say, But it's just the truth that you know. I just try to focus on that. Focus on my pictures, but you know once it fell It was nice, but really, I didn't really think about, you know, trying to go up there and get ahead. I just just went up there and try to be myself and put some good swings together, Do they? I mean, he's he's again. These answers are fine. They're pretty good for a guy one day into the majors, but I love here and say, Hey, man, the defense's what I'm focused on. I'm focused on making sure Ah, you know, my guys can get through the ending and we're executing here. This is this is good stuff. I'm excited for the next whatever the next month and and what 10 Days holds for Joey Barton..

"Joey Bart, the number two overall pick from the 2018 draft. Ah, pretty spectacular stuff. Not spectacular, but pretty fun stuff. Last night, the first number two pick for the Giants. Since Will Clark was selected in 1985. And about that your Golden State warriors gonna pick number two or number to a pretty good spot in MBA draft. History will run through some of those names that were drafted number two overall. A little bit later, Joey Barton. Not on that embassy list, of course, but he is now on the On the list for guys with a major league batting average, one for four for Jilly Bart. Yesterday You heard that hit coming in there? It was a double in the sixth inning. He was one of her four yesterday. He did strike out one time left a few guys on base, but it was fun seeing him out there. This is what we want. We want to see him back there, working with the pictures, and it's one of the big stories right now on on MLB network. As I look out there showing stuff with the game last night, there was there's been here. Here's what's interesting is we knew that the arbitration date had passed for, like, like a year or Excuse me about a week into the season, all the beat writers had talked about it saying, I don't understand why Maybe Joey Barnes not up yet, like I not totally understanding what the purposes or what The reason is, If we're past that service time limit date, then what's the reason? Well, the speculation now is that he is now officially past the window of being a super, too, which means the Giants are going to get an extra year of arbitration out of him on and I don't think it's any surprise that if the Giants believe that was the case S O do a whole lot of other teams because we've seen some of the top prospects around baseball Come up in the last 2 to 3 days. Kristen past Pash Pash Pash don't know exactly how they pronounce his last name. He's one of the slugging out fielding top prospects for the Atlanta Braves. He was just called up. Casey Mai's the number one overall pick from 2018, who was selected just above Joey Bard was called up and had a phenomenal major league debut on the hill for the Tigers. The other day. Sixto Sanchez, who's a top prospect, a pitching prospect for the Marlins, was just called up. So little fishy on all of these top prospects were finally called it this week. It's all because we're past that window. So Joey Bart makes his debut. Get used to him number 21 he was wearing. They gave him Jeff cancelled number. How about that? I was enjoy the game more. I see 21. I think Jeff Kat. I don't know. That's why he was my diamond. That was my second baseman. So I see 21. I think Jeff can other people see 21. They think I don't know. Great 20 ones in San Francisco Giant history. Stephen Vogt did John BALCO whether number 21, I think he did. We'll have to run through some of the some of the other good number 21. Dave. You said my You're Connor Joe Know, dude. Even worse. They gave Connor Joe Matt Cain's number. Do you want McCain's numbers? Years? Yeah, let's just give Mike remember 55 take politicans number incredible stuff. Anyway, Let's get to some of the stuff from yesterday. Yeah, 24 wasn't available, so they just had a November 22 never will retire in 22 about that crystal Royal rock number 22 dude. Now they're going well. They were supposed to retire this year for will Clark, but anyway, actually real quick. Just we were looking at the all time list for giant for home runs in San Francisco or, I guess in San Francisco slash New York Giants. Is Brandon Crawford hit his 1/100 career home run last night. Ah, soaring tower and shot to left field when he's He's locked in like that. He's using the entire field. He had a walk off home run on opening night like three or four years ago, almost in that exact same spot against the Dodgers were just talking about that last week. Actually, it was a raw scribblings Major league debut here like a no hitter, a perfect game into the seventh and the eighth and then Ah for hoppers Yanks him on Then Trevor Brown, the backup catcher, ties it with a home run. 11 and Brandon Crawford walked it off, See their bottom nine or bottom 10, but he hid it in almost the same spot anyway. 1/100 career home run puts him above Jeffrey Letter for all time San Francisco Giants are Giants home run, so congrats to it to Brandon Crawford. So kind of a fun light night last night where it was, like a melding of the young guys. And the old guy's Evan Longoria had a decent ballgame. Brandon Crawford. Of course. The Big Night will give you his numbers over the last week or so. But the focus of yesterday was all about root. Quick on the Cache Creek. Text on floor awaits is Freddy Sanchez? Yeah, shut our guy Freddy Sanchez. He wore number 20. I knew that I knew there was another good one in there from the World Series use. I couldn't place it. Thank you to the fore away for Freddy Sanchez, anyway, Gabe Kapler talking yesterday. This is what the story was all about. It's all about the Giants number to pick from a couple of years ago, Joey party made his major league debut, and here's what Gabe Kapler had to say about it. Yeah, I thought he did a really good job of staying calm and professional and butt back. Quality was good, obviously his first major league kid, So that's Ah, huge plus, and it was a bullet down the left field line, But somebody moved well behind the plate, and that's a nice blocks or all. I just think it's a Great game to get your feet wet in. And obviously like you mentioned you get a tackle Several pitching changes. So it's also a challenge. Nice job. Nice. So, yeah. Good praise God professionalism. I think that's what I was getting at in the last segment, and he's a young dude, but he carries himself like he's already a pro. He Looks like a probe Actor and you gotta love the duty still wearing the old school backwards helmet right, like is it kind of wearing that helmet thing, And he's got like, almost the backwards John all rude things like what you used to see in the ninety's The old school. Is that the old school face mask on Where's Buster? Where's the new Age? Hockey facemask? He's a big dude maze of big catcher, which is I don't know It's It's fun. I'm excited to see him. We haven't had this type of hype around the guy, probably Since going back to Buster Posey, right? Is that fair that Posey was that elite prospect and that's what we're looking for. Here in Ah, in Joey Barton, another one here from Gabe Kapler, talking about his confidence that he walks around. Not afraid of anything. This guy's a confident young player. Even just one day in the bigs. Only think about quiet confidence. It's it's different than like, you know, many rock No, Carter. Players around baseball. It really is kind of understated and it's is relaxed, doesn't feel especially tense in any part of his game, and I think that's that's gonna hurt him well as he makes his transition. Buster Posey is in a class of his own..

"Told you this weekend, Greatest of all time on display steroid controversies, players doing things they've never done before in shakes thousands of calories protein just to get through the round golf. Eyes actually pretty compelling this weekend, Tiger Woods will play for the first time in months had this to say about his return. It was great to be back. I haven't played on a determined venue in a while. It's been a while since February. So a long time for me and then to get out there and play with today was was a bunch of fun, and it's certainly a different world different environment that were in place. You know, practice rounds like this and I watched a tour has evolved on guys started back and to see no fans. It's just a It's a very different world order. My bet is the tiger secretly loves this well loves it. First of all he's always played well, The memorial is one of a bunch of times, but secondly, when you're tiger and you are putting a fish ball like that, and the gallery for you dwarfs the gallery for the rest of the entire Tournament combined. And he's had his social awkwardness well documented over the years. I gotta I gotta imagine maybe he gathers a lot of energy from the roars. But I bet he just loves this. I bet he can just go. You know when you see Tiger and Phil and Brady and Manning doesn't look like tigers is having a ton of fun. But like in a regular tournament looks like so stressed. The look on his face is just like I mean, he looks like the world on his shoulders. I wonder if he's not going to play really well this weekend because he could just go play golf, and he doesn't need to worry about all those fans up in his face. Let's go to the NFL. The chief's with their fresh off their Mahomes extension, pull one for defensive tackle Chris Jones today and Louis Riddick says. That means the Chiefs are set up for maybe more than just one. They have been very creative and very smart, very diligent as far as how they're structuring these contracts, especially in the short term, because they see that they have a very, very opportunistic window. Right now. They have a very young team. A team that really likes one another. A coach that has been reinvigorated in coach Reid. They have two great coordinators. They have Ah, young up and coming coordinator and Eric, Be enemy is going to be a head coach soon. I have a quarterback coach in my CAF Co. Who gets along very well with Pat Mahomes, who's also played a huge role in his development Right now, this football team given the trying circumstances that everyone is trying to navigate through this football team is Haman right along And they are right now poised to make a heck of a run at putting some more. Lombardi's in their trophy case here as soon as we could get back on the field and start playing It's an issue for the rest of the NFC West there. There's no doubt about it. If you look at it, maybe I wouldn't say I mean, I never want to use the word dynasty when somebody's won one time. That's that's just taking the combo somewhere. It doesn't need to go, but they're going to be a problem. They're going to be really good for at least another 2 to 3 years. And if things fall a certain way could be longer than that. So I've actually wondered about this for a while. In terms of someone like Derek Carr. Philip Rivers is out of the division Drew lock is just getting started. But while everybody's looking at Derek Carr with the Raiders are going, okay. Is he the right guy? Is he not the right guy? Derek are almost has no way for this to go his way. He's not winning that division. Is not there not being the chief's, unless something goes totally wrong for the chief's. This of all the opponents lands on him Maura than any buddy else. Wow, er in the NFL interesting comments from the vice president of the NFL Players Association. Sam Macho. Take a listen to this. I think the season should be postponed. I don't think Especially looking at cases in Texas and Florida. And all these different states where Corona is on the rise. I would be very difficult to start a football Steve in our time. And so when the NFL says number one, we're going to play. Number two. You have to appreciate the game. You know, it hasn't been. There's no medical reason why we should have 2/0 and number three. We have no measure. Other only other leaks have bubbles. Tien ba MBA there in bubbles. Other leaks have bubbles have ways to isolate themselves. The NFL doesn't the NFL roster of 90 got Maybe 100 crew got on the E R when you start the preseason Yes, There's a conversation of cutting my roster down that maybe 80 at the end of the day. When games are played when people are are hitting each other for an average of 60 times the game, then you have to have some kind of answer to say what will happen with well with season be cancelled. I mean, these are all fair points. The problem is they're also negotiating tactics. You can hear all of the tactics kind of kind of sprinkled into what he's saying He's making very fair points. Dr Fauci has even said I don't know about football. I mean, you ever see the cold football game were like the lineman lain down and you could just see the breath. Flying out of their mouths right into one another's faces, and I know that they're gonna have a different face Shields potentially and and all of this stuff, but football is going to be tough. It's also It's also still a ways away before they actually play games. So what's a macho is also trying to do here is he's trying to work the system for no preseason games, and by the way, he's right, He's right. I'm on the player's side there. Why Whoa! Why you don't need preseason games. College football has played forever where week. One is weak one with no preseason games. In a situation like this, I think totally prudent that the NFL does the same, but that's part of the negotiation. That is that's ongoing right now. So that's a piece of what Sam is saying instead of four. We've got the kind of like 4.5 because I've got to From Gabe Kapler today that are kind of along the same lines. Remember, we said earlier. Why are they pressing so hard on parts? Not ready parts not ready parts not ready. But Don't hesitate to heap praise on some of their other young guys who we know aren't going to come up starting with Marco Luciano, listen to this. Little lanky. Still, you know, not fully mature in the lower half but incredibly twitchy, incredibly athletic, rangy, two balls left and his right in the batter's box. High level Bert and confidence and That you know of the teenager driving balls. Out of this ballpark, making this ballpark look small. It's pretty impressive to see how he stacked up with mature major leaguers at this point in his development, so there's reason to be excited about him. Now, you know, the one thing I'll say is It's not unusual to see very athletic. Very talented young players come through Mylene comes and you know, I think he's a little bit more talented than most. But at the same time like this is a game. It's about performance through the minor leagues and somebody to keep an eye on certainly somebody to be Especially excited about and you know he's got a ways to go in his development. Okay. So at the very end, Yeah, He's got a ways to go in his development. But up until then, he's this. He's that his amaze balls. Have we heard anyone say that about Joey Bard? It's as if the second they hear the word Bart not ready, not ready. I haven't heard anybody. Go, boy. He's this. He's that physical specimen does this. I heard anybody say what he does well. All I hear is he's.

"Or daughter when she joined just courtesy of my guests in Hi, Maria. How are you? And get her You were doing great. Ah! How is your job going to change for all this? Obviously it is. Or we'll be able to. There's a workout, although I think we're going to be kind of limited to the press box and potentially the bullpen, So you know it's it's going to be any kind of a challenge. You're gonna get it, You know, keep track of you know where it is what everyone was doing Also, because a lot of the workers are gonna be staggered just because you know the players have to comply with all the social distancing guidelines as well. Um, So yeah, I mean, it's going to be tough. I think that hopefully, you know will be You know, still would be able to get offensive of kind of the work that everyone's doing. And you know the preparations that that you know everyone going to be doing to kind of get ready for the season. Nammari the Giants is your fathers have been reading have been sending out just about daily. They're giants media protocols and guidelines for their conical training. Camp. I guess it's not spring training anymore. It's summer training brought to you by camping world. Which is interesting. They the other day they sent went out and they delineated. Your your spots in the press box, So the media is going to be able to watch Giants baseball, rhetorical parking the fans. You're not going to be let in. But you're not gonna have a meal room. Obviously gonna have to bring your own food from home. You've got to be six feet apart. But my question as far as that, you know, just talking to players and and Gabe Kapler. How are they going to set that out? Is that all gonna be done? Teleconferences coming? Ah, we're obviously not going to be allowed. I don't think to go face to face with a player. But how is that going to be as far as you know, mass interviews and even if you want to, you know, Say you want interview Jeff Samardzija. How is that gonna work? Yes. So far For now, all interviews. They're going to be expected to be conducted via Zoom. I think for the most part we're supposed to get Gabe Kapler. Probably every day. You know, I think after the all the work out there kind of concluded and then I think No, the giant PR stock is going to try to get us you know, at least one or two players a day. And then if we have kind of one on one request, I think that that you know they're going to try their best to accommodate us. Yeah. I mean, obviously, it's it's going to be tough, You know, not having access to the clubhouse. I feel like you know, we might think that you know our fans and our readers are gonna kind of miss us being being in there and just kind of, you know, being able to observe. Of that environment that the players are there in every day. And, yeah, I mean, it's really tough because you're not going to kind of just walk up to a guy. It has the most casual conversations that you have it so you know so many times during the regular season. So it is gonna be interesting to see you know how that affects the type of stories that were able to tell You're Gordo's Jonas. She is the Giants beat writer for MLB dot com. We've talked exhaustively about everything around baseball but baseball itself. So I wanted to ask you some things about actually the giant because I think people want to get into that. From a storyline standpoint. A cz we sit today. What are you looking at? As faras giant storylines to kick things off that are actually baseball related. Yes, I think you know one of my biggest questions, I guess, you know, are the giant contenders now. I mean, obviously the you know we're down to it A 60 game season, which really creates kind of Ah, window for everyone. So I kind of surprised people, you know, Obviously this kind of viewed it as another rebuilding year for the Giants, but You know, it would be interesting to see if they can kind of get off to a strong start and find themselves right in the thick of things. You know, They actually have a lot of veterans on this team who have kind of experience in You know, playoff races and things like that, so maybe they'll be a little bit more invigorated now that they know if it's going to be a sprint from start to finish. So you know, at the same time I feel like the you know, A lot of the success of the season will also still depend on, you know, player development. So it'll be interesting to see. You know, at what point if and when. I guess the Giants Get opportunities to guys like Joe Barton. So I mean, it's gonna be really fascinating to see how they kind of You know, try to strike that balance between, you know, making a push for now. Also, obviously trying to trying to take care of the guys who they know are gonna be a big part of their future. Yeah. Marie, You mentioned joy Bart as Faras, a position group to me. By far the most fascinating is the catching position because Buster Has been sliding the last couple of years. And I think the hip in the injury obviously last year, but all reports he was great, and we saw it with our own eyes in the spring that he was driving the ball better. The Giants. You know Joey Bard is a big factor the number two overall pick a couple of years ago, and they just took Patrick Bailey with her first round pick this year, and they did sign him yesterday afternoon, and the report is that he's going to be a part of their player pool. So, but Karen's been downplaying Joey Barton. You know, being on the roster, they do have this taxi squad So and one's gonna be a catcher that Freeman taxi squad so How do you think they're going to do this?.

"Sponsored by dean bakery after the game, you should should've stopped by their flagship location on fisherman's Warf. So here's the big home run by Palomar swing drive into left center. Back at the one tracking looks. Homerun for Kevin. To the left of the three eighty two markets. We mentioned earlier the ball. She the Cambian very well today and pull our gave further evidence to that just a line drive, and it would not come down just over the wall, his fifth home run and his seventeenth RBI as a giant this year. The ball traveled for Gary Sanchez. Didn't it four thirty four thirty five today four sixty seven yesterday. And I'm wondering could you give would you give up a defensive position like catcher for a guy who could hit the ball? Like that. Would you give up a defensive position like opposing behind the plate for a guy like Sanchez who can reach the seats like that? It's a good question. Was that something that I don't know that, you know, someday, he will be gone, but Joey Bard is coming. But I guess the basic question is would you give up the defence at the giants? Love in this park for a guy who can reach the seats like that in left field. Like Gary Sanchez does. Because let me tell you something this ball exploded again today and that ball was gone. And that was the coup de gras. You know, Yankees went up eight nothing giants came back eight four eleven four and then pull our hits the home run to make it eleven five. But boy reaching the. The seats. He put it up towards put it up on the walkway in dead left field today yesterday halfway up the bleachers in left center field. So I guess the question eight oh, eight km VR let you do a lot of the talking this afternoon. But would you give up a defensive position for a guy who can hit like that? And still have the kind of team you want in this park. But you'd have to hide the guy maybe in left field or something like that. Would you give it up for that kind of power? I would I really would. Let's go to Chris leaving the game. Chris eight hundred km DR nice to have you on the show. Go ahead. I'm Marty downtown her first time caller nice to have. I wanna talk about I can take. Yeah. Go ahead Perot shis snus of gangqi stadium fans. I went there and any visiting team's fans just get the kitchen seeking him here laid back. The stadium was three quarters of the way the Yankee fans and. Nobody was saying anything today. They were just enjoying the game. Just like everyone else aims amazing. Well, I'm losing you crush. Yeah. You back. Go ahead, Chris. Yeah. To run the food amazing team's losing go experience, those things the trades. Everybody on the pitching staff and the bullpen overhaul. It's incredible three games in a row losing zero. Everybody gets lit up. It's incredible. Yeah. All right. Look it's an experience coming out to the ballpark at Sunday baseball, San Francisco, it's a cycle of baseball. And I know, you know, what can you say? They completely outplayed outclassed outpitched out. Hit out fielded out bullpen, the whole thing by the Yankees all weekend long. So this is what happens, but we're not used to it and seeing in a competitive nature of a San Francisco ball club. And we didn't see that competitive nature over the weekend fighting back a little bit the seventy three game on Friday night. All of a sudden was five three and a chance to busted open with Posey at the play yesterday coming back late in the game. Obviously Chapin's gotta come in today. Getting back in the game. It was eight nothing all of a sudden eight four, but there's there's a reality that has to set in in that is over these first couple of months of the season. What are the giants really have? What do they have for? Starting pitching. And what's it gonna look like against the dodgers? And a look like against this league. But at some point far hands gotta deal with the reality of well, maybe this team is drifting a little bit right now. And maybe there's something I can do to get it going. So there may be something this week, honestly. And I know Larry Krueger. And I appreciate his text just a little while ago. But we talk about it all the time the possibility of of the giants doing something early. And I think maybe when you watch a game like this. And then you're going to see the three against the dodgers. Now, the three against the dodgers down there became very competitive games. And Mike Kuka pointed that out on the post game show today after a bad weekend and San Diego giants fought the dodgers and those three games lost two or three. But it was a whole different. Look, maybe we'll get a different look Monday Tuesday Wednesday. But if not and they head out on the road to Cincinnati in Colorado. It may be time for far hand to, you know, get on the phone and maybe see if there's a bullpen need that could be all over baseball. We talked about the bullpens now not being as good as they have been in the past. There are big teams with bullpen needs right now. And maybe it's it's time. It may not be the optimum time to get the best deal. But it may be the right time for a ball club to make a move to make it look different. And maybe to give some some boost to what is happening here as we watch these games at AT and T park. You know, let's AT and T at oracle park. Let's face it. The giants now or five and eight at home, and this is a place where you'd like to be eight and five at home or nine and four at home with three more games coming up against the dodgers. So my point to everybody is, you know, I could sit back and say, well, you know, April and may figure out who you are. But in this one we may be figuring out a little bit earlier. Who who the team really is? And maybe there's a point here. We're finance got to do something. And if it is what would you do? I don't think there's anything. I don't think it's the Bumgarner time, but it could be a bullpen time. And it could be something like that to try to make something happen offensively especially in left field. And maybe it's MAC Williamson. And I know we put it out on the internet today. We've tweeted out about it. I know people have a lot of thoughts about it. But I'll tell you this when the guy was up here last year, he hit the ball. He didn't have a good spring training. But how much can you put into spring training? Look at Cameron, maybe Cameron may been couldn't get ahead and spring training three for eight in the series here gonna base a couple of times stole a bag and actually played well here against the giants. So maybe we put too much and spring training stats. Maybe Williamson just being healthy getting out of spring training should have been enough to give him a shot. And now he's crushing the bought Sacramento while he's hot bring them up here. And then also, maybe. He maybe make a relief move to bring somebody in that maybe like a Kevin pillar someone that can give this team boost. Because right now, they're drifting. They are drifting right now. All right. Marilyn Clovis kmby. Go ahead Merrill. It's the problem is cursive mad Duffy you. Remember the curse of the Bambino? It'd be cursive the goat with the Billy goes, of course in Chicago. Nineteen forty-five. We do remember it. The owner of the tavern had a goat and goat's name was Murphy. And it was named Murphy. Because the owner of the cubs in one thousand nine hundred eight was Murphy and everybody hated him. Well, he wanted to bring the goat in Wrigley field for the World Series. They wouldn't let them bring a goat in. And the owner said you'll never win another World Series. And they didn't until twenty twenty sixteen seventeen something like that. So that's the story. Okay. Okay. If I could tell that story. Okay. July thirty first two thousand sixteen sixty one in twenty four since they traded met day. They've had a losing record. Well, do you believe in curses? I believe that should've kept mad Duffy. He would have been better than longoria war. For the you know, the the longoria trade is the one that probably we can talk about. But when you think about Matt Duffy for Matt Moore at that point Matt Moore did come in look yomas. No hit the dodgers if I boat she leaves him in that game. And let them finish the game against the cubs. You know, we're going back to Wrigley with Cueto in game five who knows what would have happened. So at the time the Duffy trade, you know, everyone loved him. He was a big part of the team. But it wasn't the end of the world because they needed they needed Matt Moore at that point. So they needed him the kid they threw in the trade was the kid they paid six million four, and that was that Lucius FOX, which I could never understand how your scouts can say. Yes. Sign him for six million. And then when in a year, you're you're sending them off the Tampa Bay. Now, he's coming through the Tampa Bay system, and he's got a future. So go ahead. I digressed on your call. But go ahead. No. That was a that was just a math w they haven't had a winning record. Well, that is a very good point and true. But you know, obviously other things thanks Merrill. Okay. All right. Let's go to Justin Hayward eight. Oh, eight km Byard. Justin, what's on your mind? Marty. My actually called about lung Goria before you started talking about it. So I just have a quick point about that. Go ahead. I'm listening. Okay. Yeah. I've noticed pobably has been playing really well and. I've actually noticed you know. I don't see the panda hats anymore. I don't feel like the enthusiasms there in the should be pretty happy. How it's worked out. And what about having him as more of a regular third baseman? And this is beyond my pay grade. I don't know contracts specifics. But could you try Doucet when you're trading some players? Have you say to another team? Oh, you know, we'll relieves longoria, and you can pick up as it it. It would be kind of a washout. We basically picked up Pablo again, and we're not paying anything for him. Well, you'd you'd be making a trade, and what you'd be doing is eating all the longoria salary as what you're doing. There's no reason to do that Pablo's been terrific, and he's got an all the doubles. And you know, look if you had eight guys like him right now, it'd be terrific. But over the course of a season. It's exposed that. You know for who he is. He's a part time player right now. And that's really who he is. So I think you make the best out of it. But if you gotta get, you know, my point is Crawford panic belt, all these people you want him playing as best they can. So they want as many wins you want it to look as good as you can. So you can make a market for these guys. So I don't think benching longoria is a great idea right now because the wins and losses are not going to be an issue really Italian play the game. And I think gory has got a stay in there to show he can play the game. And then you figure out what to do in them after that. Okay. Well, that was my point. I was at the game. And I enjoyed it. It was a really nice day out. For that. Well, that's why we love baseball. It's Sunday baseball. It's time to get out here. And you know, we enjoy it. What can I tell you? It's a good time to be out here. And I know it was not the kind of series. We wanted all weekend long. It just wasn't. And you know, the Yankees just came in. And just did whatever they wanted and hit big home runs. Long home runs. Loud home runs and the giants fought back late in the game as they've done all year long. But they've got to figure out a way to get the top of the lineup doing something and get at the top of the line of Pat happening in the first inning as well. So there's a lot a lot of things that have to happen. And you don't want it to drift away with the dodgers coming in. And then going on a very tough road trip to Cincinnati in Colorado. So you, you know, you wanna keep it together. And I point is maybe you do need a little bit of a shot in the arm. Maybe the general manager president, whoever he is has got to come up and say, okay, this is not acceptable. We want to do. Something else. Oh, yeah. I I understand. I guess if anything could be positive that a lot of these games that just happened. It's like one pitch that blow the game up. So maybe maybe they will get a little inspired by the dodgers and play better baseball. And they have those one or two plays that blows everything up, and they can hang in there better. So anyway, thanks. Appreciate the show. All right. Thanks, justin. Yeah. That's what happens in baseball, though that one pitch when you don't need it. That's what happens. All right. Eight eight eight eight Cambior we'll come back to calls, right? After this talking baseball with Marty..

"To see it done. Here's a slider for strike three. Call to down after the lead off single, and there they are finally telling everybody, I've some fans here. No. But it can be hard any spring training games. Particularly the catchers got all the gear on maybe can't see the number real. Well. To know who comes into these games late. And so you heard some applause after they announced that it was Joey Bard who's now to catcher. Realizing that's who made that throw. Here's a fastball and MRs low for ball one. Well, that's one of the best place to this day here. So far. Good footwork clean released. Quick release strong. Throw accurate throw swinging foul by Bonn Jes back to play one one. Bocce has talked about the joy Bart as a player. All facets of his game. But I think what he's spent most of his time talking about is his defense. Here's a called strike. It is wanted to because everybody knows he's got a lot of power. He made a splash making his professional debut last year after the giants drafted him so high that a bunch of home runs right away. He's got rate raw power. Very good defensive catcher too. Here's a ball. Wow. You did a pretty good job framing that pitch. Just missed off the outside to and two. To joy Bart who has quickly almost by consensus. Become the very best giants prospect into this game. Two to pitch is strike three called at time. He got the call on the outside the young catcher did for his pitcher TV's Sampson who pitches a scoreless top of the seventh. "Here's the backstory on that too. Degree lyric since you. Brought it up. First off great playful, take us by Steven Tyler on Lord of the flies. Lord of the flies. I'm the Lord of the thighs. And he said he wrote that song with Harvey keitel's character from taxi driver in mind. He's like, well, frankly, there's no delicate way to say, Tony. He's a pimp is what he all. Yes. Yes. So he's talking about that song. When you listen to the lyrics. He's talk. Check it out sometime. Lord of the thighs Aerosmith. Get your wings. Tony funny. You mentioned Pim's. I was just talking to Adam copen talking is. All right. He keeps his pants strong. He does. And thank you for the segway. I was telling Copeland. He needs to go read pimp by iceberg, slim favored, a rod Brooks for myself and myself, do you want to know what's crazy about that? Book is the we are going to Joey part. John gonna giants. Go dubs losing in Miami. It's still no time to panic. And and we're gonna go Harper. Bryce by the bay anyways. Go. Here's another thing about that. Iceberg, slim bull. Tony if you've watched and I don't even know about this. Have you watched the Dave Chapelle a Netflix specials from about a year ago? Portions not not just portions. Okay. Well, just for your head or anybody else who's interested in great comedy. Here's the thing. There's one specially does kind of in a big arena. And then there's another one he does a Netflix special where he's literally sitting on a stool in a tiny comedy club in Los Angeles. Just pays the improv in the whole the whole night. Nice. Really interesting. He mean, like a yoked Chapelle, by the way, dude. He's like shredded. He's totally. I wouldn't mind seeing him unlike in the defensive backfield with the nine all that'd be great. He's got the Bill Bill. He actually takes out a copy of iceberg. Slim's book pimp and starts reading from it. Anyway. Yeah. Joey Bart Scott. Great thighs. I saw. Yeah. Probably two feet away from me. And I will listen Tony between you and me. I'm going to tell you the truth. I will check out another guy. I'll check them out like Joey Bart sitting down there. And I'm like checking them out. I'm like, man. This guy's got a big lower-half. Nice upper body. He told us by the way that he was a linebacker in highschool. Nice and his whole family is like their chock full of football player. So he said like it actually was there was a moment in his life. When he was like, I have to make a decision, and he gets I'm going to go towards baseball now, but he was a passionate football player. And how about this? Tony rather than hear me rehash it how about creative Tony drop the needle drop the needle on the record. And let's hear from Joey Bard himself on the Murph and MAC spring training trip. Yeah. Those guys, you know, they've been great Sarma Boccioni mean just being around him and his presence listened to him talk. I think the cool it's the coolest. It's awesome. Talking about ain't exactly getting them. All ears telling my Martin Martin speaks everyone listens. Kind of the same the same fuel. I did with boche. And and obviously BUSTER man. He's just yeah. He's a great baseball player. Obviously. He's unbelievable. But it just him as a professional is is something I think is the most impressive thing. He he's he's a he's a great guy. And you know, he's he's told me some really nice things. A really great things that are I think are going to help me, you know, as I move along. And on say mad Bowman. He's he's the man I got my nickname for him. I think I call them the warden, you know. I just came to my mind like the first couple of days like this interacting a little bit with them. You know, he's great. He's so good. And and he's a he's a lot of fun. You know, he messes with me a little bit. But I love it. You know, if he messes with me now, that's awesome. You know? I don't care anything. Anything coming from him. I'll take. So the story came out that he tapped you from the first day at bullpens, right? Yeah. Yeah. He's why he didn't even tell me. He kinda like he wouldn't even look now. I was getting my dear on he's a he's like Barlow's grab number one. And I was like. Yeah. He's a great guy. That's through these three guys that you know, along with everyone gory. I mean, there's other people Pablo there's guys in there that are. So so awesome. You guys have you learned that Brandon? Crawford's the DJ to right. He's running the boombox have you experienced that yet. I thought it was I thought it was Holly. I didn't know maybe he's is still craft in his playlist Francisco. He's the guy. Yeah. So anyway, listen, you'll learn them all it's great to get to know you a little bit. We hope this is the beginning of many times, we have you on the show and listen yesterday the bomb and the double Andy Bagley one of the writers describe your swing as a grown ass. Man. Swing. So I mean, that's a good way to go. Who is your like, you're hitting philosophy is just what see it and crush on trying. Yeah, I'm trying to do damage. That's what they that's what they. Here for my coach in college. I'm here for is drive runs in and you know, try to try to make things interesting. So when I get up there. That's what I'm trying to do. Basically. That was nice, man. Nice. Joey part-owner, your impressions enjoyed part. It sounds like he's not forget for he hit a home run and a double yesterday. You know, what I get from Bart? And yes, he did. He he went deep any also hit a double. But what I get from Bard is a quiet confidence. No doubt. But also he knows his his place right now. He knows that he's supposed to come here, and basically shadow everything BUSTER does you do Joey. Well, you can't have a better mentor than BUSTER Posey for being in the squad. So if I were Joey I would even ask BUSTER calculate come sleep with you, can I can I can I come make you breakfast. Can I come into your room at night and squeeze the toothpaste onto your brushing and leave ABSA can I can I brush your teeth for you? Well, if you stand there with your hands on your hips, and you smile big I'll start brushing. Hits. Dude. I got I got Joey part Russian BUSTER Steve. The way he's in this whole visual. I envisioned BUSTER in a row, but do you think BUSTER wears a robe? I had a picture of like in a white t shirt with boxers. Okay. Okay. I'm a robot enthusiast. I wasn't. I was thrilled that I got a robe for Christmas. I got other things that my wife thought. Oh, she's gonna love this. The thing. I loved the most was my new robe, right? Forget about the Fischbach set about like New Year's tickets. It's really more about the roads getting home from work and putting on my robe. Are you kidding not here? He slippers. My dad was a big robe guy. Ryan my dad would like drink his coffee in the morning and his robe. He'd read the kidney apron. Can we start a movement? Walter. We will we should start taking our robes out in public, bro. Well, hey, listen, dude. I think swaggie Pete Nick young more rope in four years parade last year. And it was wide open to it wasn't even tied. You just running around where robe over your clothing, man. And that's let's go robing. You know, the funny. There. It is. What are you doing this weekend going Rovan with Tony? How about you? And I just rolling the Hobson's choice on Haight street contests. Yeah, robot when your home, and your robing, do you have on you stuff under the t shirt and shorts underneath you're going bear. No, no, I go. I usually pajama legs like full-on pajama bottoms like tan. Pajama pants. Yeah. So it's not too risque. Right. Well, you know, if I'm by myself versus Megan. And I or whatever, then, you know, there's options, you know, what I like to you about the robe. Tony is it like, you're all it takes all it takes. I mean, you're almost like if something's about to jump off as they say like all it takes is that hog of of the of the rope. Yes. Or the belt or whatever you wanna call. And next thing, you know there. It is home run all bets are off. All bets are off. Tell me what it takes to let you go. Paul does miss it. Dude. Okay. Nice. There goes my girlfriend. Tony. Diamond ring, Tony, hey, very acapella version of that. He did a show. Yes. Fantastic. Yeah. The what were your impressions of Joey Barton in person? I mean, that's what I was saying. No, you nailed it, dude. He's got his demeanor is already kind of like a season guy like you can see the potential and they were like my crew today said look this kid because the standard would be even if you're hot stuff like Joey Bahrani stuff can't kid. "And we welcome in giants catcher, Joey Bart. We're delighted to have you on the Murph and MAC show, prime Murphy, Paul McCaffrey, Joe laflin, Joe you we've been coming down here. Many years doing these shows, and it's always exciting to meet the new prospects, you would count as one of the new prospects. So welcome to the show more this morning. Yeah. Thank you for doing great. You know, I'm blessed be out here to beautiful morning coming up here in Scottsdale is starting to warm up. So everything feels great. And you know, I'm ready for another day another day. You said you did admit though, some days, you're a little more tired than others today might be the day the little bit today. I don't know what it is. I got to better early. But I gotta get things rolling you discovered. The joys of coffee. Are you a I'm not a coffee guy? Come the day might come for you. But you didn't feel you know, rejuvenate when you hit that bomb reminiscent after that. There's no the the double filagree, and then the home run was just extra. So that gave me a little spark Joey Bard is in camp. Of course, the giants number two pick in the twenty eighteen MLB draft. So a lot to get to we want to get to know you a little bit. And hopefully, this will be the first of fifteen th straight appearances in our Scottsdale shows here. But let's start with Georgia. Buford georgia. I was asking you during the break tells a little bit because we know busters from lease leesville, Georgia. Pardon me. Pardon me BUSTER is Buford a country town country. Boy, I mean, maybe a heart maybe a little bit. But it's not it's not it's kind of right there in the middle of like, I said, forty miles north of Atlanta. There's like the big geographical point, there's Lake Lanier. So like linear as a giant legs like the biggest lake in stay in jaws. A lot of people, and it's a really nice area. But yeah, that's kind of what I grew up doing getting out there on the lake or wherever hanging out with friends and was always the fun thing to do in the summer. So Buford's a great place a lot of rich history and tradition. Great grade school there, you know, I love where I'm from. So a little small town Georgia, then you get a chance to will you play. You told us you played all sports growing up. Right. Baseball, basketball and football, right? Yes, sir. And did you have a favorite or or I always thought it was gonna play football growing up low football. But once I got to like seventh or eighth grade. Maybe even a high score kind of figured out that baseball might be, you know. Probably the worst season. I made those quitting football. My brother played football for the university of North Carolina. My dad played my dad played baseball as well. My brother played football. So it was just kind of like a whole thing. You know, maybe maybe I'm gonna play football. But once more opportunities came in baseball new I didn't wanna get greedy. So stuck there with baseball? Joey bar is the voice you hear. Well, let's be honest to describe you to your strong, dude. What are you? What do you weigh in these days? Somewhere around two thirty. I guess play linebacker two twenty five to thirty size. You know? Yeah. Maybe I guess like, for example, the royals were out here yesterday. And who's the kid Terrance gore? Like, you know that. Yeah. Oh, man. Was he gets like five seven one fifty SOGA you guys like that. You can tackle your linebacker. Hopefully, they don't come running down line. You got capture. No. That's the problem. Yeah. But as you said baseball became apparently, you're your sport he began to it was obviously you think now catcher tell us about that. When did you gravitate to the to the squat? So I was I was a center fielder plan through little league and stuff like that. And then my one of my good friends when I was young. It was the catch on the team he had diabetes. So when he got diagnosed with that in the summertime. You know, how that is the summers in Georgia, very hot and humid. So his blood sugar will get low, and you would have to come out of the game. And sometimes you couldn't play you know, depending on how low would get. So remember one day where your practice? Just slow the catcher's gear on because no one else God. And I had a great time with it. And and that's literally how it worked out. I've been catching, you know, since I was probably eleven or twelve years old. Well, and it's it's a culture. Right. I mean, you start studying year the cerebral guy, you're the quarterback your choose your analogy. I mean is that what you love about the game is being the guy. Yeah. It's awesome. I mean, you're in you're in the mix, obviously every single pitch. I think it's the most important position on the field. And you know, if I can be in that position to to know instruct people to wear their need to be here to get pitchers in line. I think you know, when games is what it's all about. So if I can get back there and try to win as many games and help our guys out. That's what I'm there for have a pitching did you ever dabble with that? Because I never did. Now. I never I never pitched. I think maybe when I wasn't like peewee growing up. That's never pissed so now 'cause BUSTER when he was at Florida state. I believe played I think it was their closer. Right. Wasn't. He. I wouldn't doubt shortstop jets. Right. Right. Got out really to you're coming out of Buford, a high you get drafted by the Tampa Bay rays, but you had options in college. Tell us about how what was the recruiting process like, and who who did you consider so grown up. Long story. Short my best friend quarter hall, his dad's the head coach, Georgia Tech. Danny hall has been there for twenty five years. So I met him when I was probably ten or eleven years old playing travel baseball. And always thought, you know, there's a chance I mean, I thought nothing of college we're eleven or twelve years old. I didn't know anything. I didn't think I didn't know if I play in college. I didn't even think about that. I was just a kid like I said. Yeah. Playing a few different sports. But. Coming into probably my fifteen or sixteen year old season. Kinda wanted to go to Clemson Clemson sounded cool to me. I don't know why. But my first offer came from UGA what to Georgia. And they offered me whatever. And then that's when I kind of knew that I needed to play baseball. So soon as that kinda got on the on the radar guess, Georgia Tech came and coach hall has been there watching me play since I was eleven years old almost every single game. So he knew exactly what kind of player I was. But look short after Georgia for Georgia Tech came and swooped in. And you know, it was just kind of one of those things like I said, it's thirty five forty minutes from home. All my best friends were going to Georgia Tech play baseball with growing up. It's a great school. I mean, there's so many different way different things that I could explain about it as a why I went there. But it was the greatest in the coach who's the guy. You've known forever known forever yet. Any Halsey me play. So many baseball games growing up. And I just thought that was pretty cool. Yeah. See you're like the coach's kid in a way not not when I got there. No, not when I got there. But I mean, there's other kids on the team they've been playing. I mean, I probably had five or six teammates that we played with since we were twelve years old, Georgia Tech. So it wasn't just me. It was kind of a family thing, which is. Cool. So he's a Georgia. Boy, all the way it goes to Georgia Tech and boom explodes. I'm reading the accolades here, obviously Atlantic coast conference player of the year the Johnny bench award. I mean, a lot of kids who are good in high school go to college, and it doesn't always work out. You know, it's the big pond. Now, how did it go for you in terms of the mental and physical ability to succeed in that environment? Yeah. I mean, I hit the ground running in college. I I was kinda allows kind of bitter coming out of the draft in highschool. I thought I had a good shot there. And and things didn't work out for me. But coming into in the college. I just wanted to go there and plays ours. I can make an impact on my team. I grew up a lot. I got a lot better my position and start hitting for power things started coming my way. Kind of just put my head down and went after it and try to stay the course. And you know, obviously it worked out great going to Georgia Tech was the was the best citizen. I made how how's your body changed from high school to college? Because you know, you're you said you hit for power your catcher, did you have to eat a lot the way. Or were you always a strong thick came in time? You know, I've always been a more physical guy. But as I look back into my senior year of high school or junior high school to my sophomore year freshmen year, college, I was just stronger had more like muscles. Like, you know what I mean? It's just it's just part of growing up. You know? So I got a lot stronger and in things as a result of the weight room, or is that just okay for sure. Yeah. We have like one of the best strength coaches. Georgia Tech, Steve Tamboura. He's like very dear to him. He's a great guy. He's been doing it for like eighteen nineteen years. We're talking like, Matt leaders. We're talking every bit. Yeah. Everyone's been their families are families athletes, you brother played college football, your dad played college baseball. He says, yes. My dad played college baseball at the university of Miami. And then transferred back home to to Penn State and. Roots are western Pennsylvania. Your family. Pittsburgh. Yup. Western. Pennsylvania a lot in Ohio. Cincinnati ohio. Yeah. So my my family. My aunts and uncles are, you know, they're reds fans and Bengals fans were Steelers fans and a little bit of pirates fans now mostly giants fan. So Joey, Bard is a voice you here. And we got them through all the way from his childhood in Buford. Georgia small town of you all the way through Georgia Tech and now comes the draft. And they said you were a little bitter after the highschool draft. Now's your chance for redemption. How did tell us about your your feeling.

"As far as having retired Thank you. Here's another one for Brian Sabin here on hoping to do anything they can. Upgrade, this season because the, way they've gone now is not acceptable well it's damn near impossible On the free market power his not necessarily gonna wanna come here because. They, they know the park If you wanna be, or cryptic about it The people that have success here after people have to be right. Handed pull hitters or. Left handed pull hitters, that's very tough buy so in in reality you either have to develop them or you're gonna have. To travel or its plan, b in you go with another style offense which is more based on line drives doubles into on the basis of what we're open now to really anything we can do it up uptick this off because this this downturn that we've. Had started with the second half of sixteen although we had. Different problems also sixteen really just an acceptable we're going to have to engender another. Way, of doing it, or reinvent ourselves against yeah to Rhode. Island says plant as Zito was. Played a he wasn't. Planning for the money they were. Gonna spend they, tried, to get Soriano first they were. Told no, they tried to get Carlos Lee, he said I've got a ranch in Houston. Go to Houston and, play left field there instead ninety? Five says why not bring up Joey bar how come guys like Harper get the green light and others have to, spend years in the minors in the end it's still base Bryce Harper, is still at nineteen. Years old had, played triple a. he's an exception to the rule he's a generational player he was fifteen or sixteen drops out. Of high school he. Was playing junior college, ball at sixteen years old in Nevada with his older brother playing semi pro like not semi pro. Guy was playing at a, high level at fifteen years old Joey Bart wasn't on the cover of Sports Illustrated like Bryce Harper at fifteen Joey Bard is playing rookie ball right now low level single a Bryce Harper even at nineteen years old was playing AAA. Ball before he got to the majors much like all these. Other guys if you wanna put Joey Barton AAA before he gets called up next. Year, and you say, let's see what he can do for. The last month okay sure I'll. Sit by on that. Even though I think it's way. Too early the, guy, is way too early he's up. In Salem, Kaiser he's not even in Augusta, he's not even in San Jose he's not. Even in Richmond the, guy is used to flaying college? Style baseball with an aluminum bat he's been swinging a wood bat for two months two months bring Joey barred up, now with nine Out of the playoffs does you know good I'd rather have I'd rather have Dave Jenks, sit in a squat and and do the Chris Stewart. "The day not a, bad deal I have some lunch get snow cone twenty six miles across. The sea, as the song goes so anyway other. News guys. Boogie cousins debuts today eleven AM you have we rolled in the sound that? The, new sound from him yesterday Why don't you tell you he yeah by. The way, he his languages choice by the way. He'll he'll. Go ahead. And drop a Ecorse word or two it's on my Twitter lights I like that it's the new Showtime. Thing I can't believe nobody ruled? That. In by the way have you have you. Looked at some of. These prospects that the Orioles did? Get. The years that they're having go ahead. Tell us they've, all been promoted yes so Ryland Bannon is a using the. Colleague he's a third baseman He was only? Hitting. Two Ninety-six with twenty if that's good twenty. Bombs bombs he had Forty three. That we'd be, like when's he. Coming up This guy, was in low a. Hi Joey Bard Dean Kramer he's. A. Dean Kramer yes so here's a fourteen round pick. Out, of UNLV He's. Six and three on. The. Year in and he made one start double a. Eighty six innings. One hundred and twenty-five punch shouts. We'd be like what's his name? Again, Kramer exactly that's basically who we traded for that was the. Shot Anderson deal no not quite who's the, guy they gave up the other day Giants yeah The jets would mean you talking about they're talking about the kid. To, Texas? Yes Jason Jason bar guy we should have been talking about no it's web the. Other kid web. Logan web out of in San Jose, right now is a stud he's ninety. Five he is ninety, four to ninety seven and he just. Came off Tommy John so he's the max they're going with. Him is four innings now even pigewoman it's four. Innings and he had going into I think his last start was a one. Six Pretty good by the way. The whole concept. Of the prospect versus the the proven, pro you know I mean there is. Purity it's all about, I know but I'm just saying like. There is that whole concept of yet trade prospects there's how. Many of those guys actually pan out you know It's true but I mean how many of them were given the. True. Opportunity to play because a. Lot of these guys not a lot all these. Guys they don't do and become a prospect in the minor leagues. By being a part time. Player by being a guy. That plays two times a week and then has to go three for four that day. Right that's part, of the thing these guys that they most these teams bring up I do not see, the giants because the giants don't do it we seen. It with Duggar we see them with Slater they don't play every single day, and there's, always a, limitation that they. Put on them, and for. Me that's always I feel like hinders lot of the guys unless you're the, top top prospect and that is what BUSTER that, is Pablo Then what are we going Joe Almost out. Of necessity was out of? Necessity That's. It's tough gig there's very few gigs man so that's the thing that we see these other teams that you got, these guys, that come, in and they. Just, you know kill it do all. That well it's because they let them. Play they let him get through some, stuff. Giants? Are signing longoria trained from mccutchen etc right. Which, you endorsed. By the way I do yes I do but who who do we, have, is as third, base prospect Christner Royal say he's in Tampa I mean we let him play last year and what happened he, didn't, play every day He did. What he firstly MAC has. A song, forum on the board of you know 'em play. That was a little premature On the asking price for Machado I do agree. With that I don't think they're going to I don't think the. Dodgers are thinking they're going to get him back next year I. Think they're gonna let them walk and part of it too is the asking price in giving up those, prospects or giving up so little forum. Is now because he's been traded, to the dodgers they, can't offer him a qualifying offer which means they don't get a prospect if he goes to sign elsewhere which is good news which also means they didn't want to give..

"Yeah i mean this was a division that was always considered one of the best in baseball and outside the l central despite the second worst division baseball if you look at this giants team going forward and especially if the if the division somehow evens out it's not the logjam in august and early september i don't i can't i can't envision them being way back anyway but no i think but the fact that they went all in and grand mccutchen grabbed the longoria you know i think i think something catastrophic would have to happen enemy sellers that i think i think it'd be buyers to tell you the truth starting pitching or or were they get some help in the outfield you think yeah i mean could get could use one more starter you know you know right now they re line a lot on holland strandings pitch rain well you know you got reinforcements but you can get your hands i got like a cole hamels you know one more veteran guy like that i think it would really help you know and maybe some suit some sort of bad you know fill in you know you get contributions like alan hansen and things like that you never you never know balakot hamels vote or the giants have the package together to to get that guy over here do not much actually because you make so much money he's making about twenty two million he's a freeze at the end of the year he's having a socio year but it's also you're in texas it'd be lights out here in san francisco just difference in leagues and the individual and so yeah i mean the judge get pulled off it's not like you need a top price prospect to do that well what do you think about the giants draft pick joey bard is it is it a is it foreshadowing into the future drafting catcher a regarding buster posey i don't think it is i mean you.
