"The CBA the current CBA Major League Baseball expires December first twenty twenty one so that would mean at the conclusion of the twenty twenty one season assuming that there is one we don't know about the twenty twenty season we would assume that there will be a twenty twenty one season but we don't know so you know that that's a lingering yeah Major League Baseball could plan here you know I think Joel Sherman wrote a good article in the post I just was reading it it's coming out in today's post to get the digital edition here which was able to to upload it and just read so you get that little bit later on today it's you know a normal base is all about the need adults to step up and an adult in the room to step up and come to an agreement here but the lays out scenarios where they could act in good faith you you know it shouldn't be this hard acted in good faith here and you know whether it's deferred money for the players which I think would make sense because you're gonna have owners recouping some of their money even then surely right eventually they'll be able to get back and have the old have fans go to the ballpark and start to get their main for the majority the revenue back eventually so they spread it out over time it's not that big of a blow their all the ways that they can also help out you know the players it again in good faith whether it's raising minimum wage removing luxury tax penalties all these things that Joe Sherman brings up I think they're interesting points because if you do that now you give players something like that now even though you can give all the money that they would want maybe they would be happy about that you get the season underway this year you can go play out next year and then hammer out an agreement in twenty twenty one at the end of the season the last thing right now Major League Baseball needs is a work stoppage that is the last thing they need pandemic or not they can not what's in a work stoppage but this time it's different as we've been saying for weeks here now under the current circumstances you have worked up is now it's one thing if they would stop you know they play through under normal circumstances where there is no pandemic in they play two out twenty twenty to twenty twenty one and then you have worked on budgeting that's that's bad enough but it's not catastrophic to the level would be now I think that's.

"O. right up until ten o'clock and have Joel Sherman and a couple of minutes so let's grab some phone calls while we can Paul is in Hamden you're on the fan Paul Paul are you there yes Paul go ahead all right I guess we don't have Paul and we do have Paul seems to be alive and breathing all right well we have open lines eight seven seven three three seven six six six six you know the golf yesterday again it's junk sport you know they they have rules that are kind of made up I mean this modified alternate shot thing where all four guys here to drive and then you select the one you want to use and the other guy has to hit the second shot and all of that I mean it's fun but it's kind of made up and the fact that you've got the two greatest golfers of this generation I have to say and Mickelson and woods against arguably the two greatest quarterbacks of this generation I mean you know you know if you want to I think it's a little early to put Patrick Mahomes that category quite yet hi I have a lot of confidence that he will be but you know you look at what Peyton manning accomplish and you know you throw around Rogers in the mix too but and he and Tom Brady I mean you've got the the Titans that I'm not talking about the Tennessee or New York times with the Titans of their respective sports on a team playing together and I always thought it would be you know as like an allegory of statutes and yeah you see our golf is you know Brady and and Peyton manning weren't that good and that's artists board and I'm I was thinking well I'd like to see I'd like to see Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson play quarterback for one series Fortinet have filled team and see how well they did that could ever happen of course and they would be crippled for life if they did but the interesting DJ and Rutherford you're on the fan DJ hi Richard I just just wanted a person want to tell you because you're not on Saturday mornings that I've been listening to you for years have a little bit stressful job so every Saturday morning I play my baseball game and listen to you so I really appreciate all those years that you entertain me at that time well we'll be back eventually I don't know exactly when but I'll be on June six for a one shot and then we'll see what happens after that okay and the other thing was I years ago this is a first time caller listening to you forever when you had argued about the DH about adding authentic cetera no I love both leagues I love watching American League with the DH in the National League without but to be a devil's advocate if you want to have so much offense wanted to do like football have ninety ages expand the roster and so you have your best hitters going up and you have your best fielders going out well the only thing is I mean that would really destroy the fabric of of baseball I mean baseball is always spinning out to be able to field you got to be able to hit got to be able to run some of them deficient and some of those categories but it's I don't know if we're headed that way and certainly the owners would want it headed that way because it would destroy the whole salary structure of the sport I just think that the pictures more and more now I mean they used to take batting practice management take batting practice anymore they can't even find anymore so most of the time when a picture is up it's just an automatic out and occasionally you'll get big sexy hitting you know the home run and that'll be great but those moments are so few and far between it doesn't pay off for me I wouldn't mind seeing the DH permanently I think that's where we're going Joel Sherman coming up in just a moment right here on the fan hi I'm.

"He leads the major league baseball and waited runs created which is staff that no one understands it. All right. Plus, this is a great segue for this will carry with us. We love having you out here, of course, live at the patio Joel Sherman and John talked to me about it on the talkback yesterday. Joe you see Joel sherman's college task is so true the beauty of baseball. We love to see as the season would wind down would someone get twenty wins with someone hit three hundred with someone get thirty home runs, and we want those are the numbers we could relate to now the numbers that are being pushed as John said, what's his war? Z gonna have a five point two war of five point eight war. And no one even knows how to figure it out. So I think he made a valid point that we need to have those numbers back for the fans to take us down the stretch. I agree. And it's one of the reasons that I'm sold on what Trevor stories do. Right now for Colorado mardi, and that's because he's got over thirty home runs. He's approaching thirty steals. And the thirty thirty club means something to me as someone who grew up watching Barry Bonds. There was the thirty thirty club. You know, he was the five hundred five hundred club guy. I'd love to see Trevor story do that. And I think that that should have some weight in the MVP ballot. Yeah. We should be talking about a season numbers. Not the analytics the metrics where the UCR rating and all that UCR. I mean seriously. So Joel Sherman if you look at it, I think in the New York near post post your poems. Very very good. And now, he's always good good. Good column. And it's a good subject for us on unoppossed game. When we do the post-game Adam thank you for doing the post game tonight as well. You probably gotta get in the clubhouse and see what's going on anything cooking in there. You're right. Yeah. We'll see. We'll see.

Engaged with raise on Chris Archer now let's see I'm, just reading his last closing in on Cameron maven potentially the Indians. Mariners and Yankees all among teams in on him maybe the Chris Archer stuff, is? Now moot with the, addition of Lance Lynn right. In that starting rotation I like the LANCELOT acquisition And what we say we're going to get an outfielder, Cameron? Maybe I mean the. The Yankees are I mean They. Are. Exactly what you dream of as a fan It doesn't end Brian Cashman not only aggressive he, makes more moves and regardless of how they turn out you want your. Team to go out there and address areas of. Need he's loading. Up in advance, of this weekend series forget the Orioles Yankees. Sweep them and the two game series in the Bronx and then they go to Boston for four games in a. Series that's going to to me likely decide the division Yanks are trailing, by four in the loss column right now. And they still have games in hand they need to win those games in Boston a split favors the Red Sox And he anxious don't stop I mean now they added, to legit starters whether you love half. But he's fine is a fourth or fifth. Guy and same thing with Lynn Those guys are solid with the great bullpen, that they. Have yanked, sir I mean the Yankees just, it's unbelievable how they, continue to just go out there and get whatever, it is that they need Any Martino also is I'm trying to talk and read at the same time you couldn't. Tell any, Martino also on Twitter saying there's been. Some late action. On Noah Syndergaard but nothing to convince the Mets to, move movement so should be a wild rest of the till four o'clock, tomorrow I mean that's that's. What we're looking at here four pm deadline so the rest. Of the evening here in an immoral. Maybe going to be fast and furious with all these different moving, pieces. But the Yanks aren't, done they they now what I would think short up their rotation now they look to add another bat I mean, it just and the Mets you know who knows what they're gonna do, and who knows if they. Do that it's going to be the right move Shannon in. Jamaica you don't like JT Mutu Shannon I'm, only like him but I feel like fans get caught up with. The names they. Don't really like look into. Players what do, you need to look. Into the, guys you guys an all. Star catcher, I mean you wanna talk about met fans getting caught up in the, names they love Wilberforce you're gonna knock DAT realm Muto. Now's legit young all star catcher About three? A second. 'cause I was about to lose it Mestizo really bad team. Because there's. Not really like one position where? They can improve well they can play on this call. With a legit trade and don't say. It's crazy, I don't know why would you why if I. Also go to, a, king and also like a Noah Syndergaard Brandon. Nimmo, and like a few on the. Prospects and I went to Los, Angeles angels mess they give me. My child that's trade what do you think about the I don't think it thank you for the call Shannon you actually scared me for a minute I, mean I, I, was about to lose it in, general and. On you obviously. You. Can't compare real Muto to Travis star no. Don't tell the Mets that though I mean d'arno. Again next year maybe that's. Your cross your fingers I. Don't think the angels would trade. My trout, and, I, don't think that Nimmo and Syndergaard. "They haven't lost a beat like they had. You know, game went so long. Last night I figure when I looked, they were up at one point in was tied five, five in and I was like, oh, they're, they're gonna win. It almost feels like they haven't really lost since he's joined the team for whatever reason they're manufacting a lot of runs. I mean, it just seems a lot different with him on the squad. Now. Then before where we talked about the fact that his presence, we'll protect batters and give them better pitches to look at your ride key. We have seen that the last night's game was so weird. I stayed up. I watched and weren't KiKi Hernandez came out, and God bless TK for being willing to be the sacrificial lamb situation. But I just feel like does he get the loss? Yeah. I would just go to say how you going get him to man how you give him to his record. Like to me kitchen my age, the win gave up all the games. Give him the l. he was four one. He gave up all the games. I think in the seventh any he's the one who should have gotten the ale, not just a, you know, utility guy who's stone in there and you know, obviously isn't a pitcher and gave up a three run. Jack. I just felt like I know he doesn't care, but it just felt weird. It is feels weird to give that guy the l. for for doing something that he's supposed to be doing, which is pitching no, listen, I'm with you. I, it's kind of weird now. So weird book Shambhu Sunday night baseball, and Joel Sherman of the New York Post had kind of a. They were on like a podcast or something recently, and I saw this documented on fivethirtyeight. It's actually was recently. It was like a few months ago when the season started. There was some crazy long, sixteen seventeen eighteen inning game. And they suggested look after the twelfth inning, just call it a tie. Because in baseball, you actually had ties and they were pretty frequent actually up until like the fifties and sixties were that kind of with that only born won't. But the point is is that if you go back in the record books, there's plenty of times pre nineteen sixty where there were ties when Americans don't like ties, I get is one of the reasons why we don't like soccer. We don't want one one. We don't wanna call the draw. Getting your lane, you're over there. We don't like that. But I actually tweeted that last night. I was like, can we just kid be a tie like I wanted to go to bed, but I was invested and then they roll out KiKi and I'm just like, well, if you're going to check out the game, you could've kicked it off like in the eleventh and we could have two hours ago. Kiss early, can't move Machado from third to pitching. So you had to put somebody in. I mean, I understand that part. I guess my my larger beef is that baseball needs to address that issue. I think you see, why would they Robert say Machado will walk in the door? He's the player. That's what I was getting there. Well, not this. Everybody's the best. On the team he is, but why would why would he say that? I know he is, but why would he? Why did he feel the need to say that? I think there's a couple of reasons. Okay, free agent. Remember one that he's free agent number two. It's factually correct. Of course is correct. And number three, it could be used as a nice little motivating tool, I think for some of the other guys. Right? Isn't that fair? That all those things could be possible. I don't think that. These veterans in need eventually motivation..

"Of the pack offense one player leaves your team and now you're down with the martha worst offensive teams in baseball it's a combination a combination of guys trying to do too much manager not knowing how to get those guys to not try to do so much the actual players that they have great players to begin with everybody talks about the lack of who cares about batting average well i mean i care about batting average and now you're seeing why because batting average matters you want some guys who can actually hit the baseball already drew walk oh but he true well i don't care if he drew a walk you gotta get guys on and get a draw them in walking either well they don't they don't do anything so i mean that theory is gimme gimme a guy who hits three hundred to eighty at the very least and you're gonna score some runs with that they don't have that so even when bruce is going well frazier's going well these frazier to nineteen last year i mean you know bruce's he has had to twenty before last year was an aberration into eightyfive so conforto to me the biggest culprit i i still don't understand why he's been so awful i wish that there was a reason for it but i'm actually concerned about it so it's just a combination of all these different things to be that bad when you have the starting pitching the way that it's been i mean they've had a best sorry one of the best starting rotations in baseball statistically but there are a amongst the orders for the last three to four weeks and yes a possible one of the worst records in baseball and you know the teams that have gotten that got a great starting pitching they all have winning records the mets have really struggled offensively the worst baseball over the same period of time the second worst joel sherman of the post had this at his story today the second worst is the.

"If you were going to trade any of these guys what makes you sure that's going to happen again you're going to trade the last two guys standing atop that rotation for what is called would say for what home the trade with the yankees are so unrealistic i mean joel sherman could write about all we want it's nonsense i mean they would never make that trade glazer torres or do our or whatever else the yankees would give the mets percival the yankees don't need jacob degrom and noah syndergaard yankees last time i checked doing pretty fine without those guys now come postseason or the egg is gonna need another starter they can rely on beyond severino probably but not sir trade torres do horror and whatever else they'd have to give up to get a syndergaard or jacob degrom so the yankees don't mean to make that move and the mets can't make that move enough of the narrative of training two of the best pitchers in major league baseball the one thing that the mets actually have done right over the last several years you cannot trade those guys under any circumstance i don't care what anybody's willing to give you now you're listening to the same guy who said i wouldn't trade matt harvey years ago for mike trout years obviously removed from that that would have been a mistake doesn't matter the principal stands correct.

"So in writing about the injury apparently heard it in the third inning hitting going after a one to pitch that he couldn't reach came out and pitched the fourth and pitch well and then said the pain had moved to his bicep and mickey callaway took him out so there's some question i saw joel sherman raise the question in a post why did he go out in the fourth if he hurt himself in the third and i guess that'll be looked at more carefully as time goes on but joel had in his article the kindergartner combined five and one with a two point four six the rest of their starters are three and six with a five point nine three so it's a completely different team and five point nine three is not something any team can really live with but certainly not the mets who are not going to be an offensive juggernaut i think we can all agree on that they're not going to be the kind of team that steamrolls you for one thing they're in the national league pitcher has to bat for another they got too many holes know they have too many guys with poor on base percentages to get them in a situation where they're going to be consistently a good offensive team so it's really a drag it's really a bummer if degrom is out for any extended period of time because you want meaningful baseball we went through last year playing out the string and it just became and we've had so much of that in this market now the giants and jets were dead so early jets before the season started giants after about week four the nixon nets haven't been relevant in you know i don't even remember anymore and it seems like another lifetime the rangers have been good but they weren't last year and you could see it falling apart and now they're older and their outlook going forward is very tentative as a franchise in terms of when will the rangers be good again when will be competitive again there's no indication that they will be anytime soon so islanders are in disarray you know that devils are playing better but you know they're kind of a forgotten off the beaten path franchise to new york fans they have their followers and their ardent followers but they don't move the needle very much in.

"What's up here monday hope you're well the giancarlo stand as a new home i'm sure you know that he was traded to the yankees for a couple of mid level prospects apparently the cardinals and the giants had better offers but he he had won a one hundred percent new trade clause all joel sherman out of new york said mike hill um gm of the marlins initially went to four clubs that does stanton would go to yankees dodge cubs after owes no traction so engaged others worked out deals of the giants in a cardinal stand refused so he went back to the yankees first and that's when a a deal was made uh said he was impressed with the cardinals in giants but didn't want to go anywhere else uh said the giants were great people great meetings greg organization culture but it was not a great fit uh they were never on his list said i was opening the list led to listening that wasn't a fit are the most interesting quote was his agent joe wolf said quote it's a little harder wrapping your head around being a giant when you grubby dodgers fan but doesn't sound like there was any traction whatsoever and he never had any intention of waiving his no claw notrade clause for either team but especially the giants 'cause he was dodgson or something else that the that wall said to i just thought there the couple quotes stupid i mean july like i don't care where he goes it doesn't matter to me but then he said this guy wants to win he's a football player at heart it's all about playing competitive meaningful games he spends his october's in europe and able to really watch the play because it is kills him is that means a football player at heart or a football players only guys a conservative i mean that conservative but the competitive aolad that so i guess baseball players are competitive basco players uncompetitive hockey play in then no other athletes or competitive of visa football player at hearts that means it's competitive stupid that was his dumb they ages put a sock in it and then when stand said.

"While signing with the angels that just came down joel sherman a believe the first to have that uh then he gave out a quiz to ask teams how he was going to be used and buster only had a piece oncom this morning that said that baseball was very interested in investigating how this all went down because this isn't like the blind bids in the past rediscovered gay matches okkas team and go here's fifty one million we've won the bid which is insane now you think back and i believe we pay fifty one million now we have the right to give him a fifty milliondollar contract and the player solid less than half of it so is basically like soccer almost right sorority where the money is going to the baseball team that has the player's rights and then dice gay comes over and you go this isn't as good as i thought it was gonna be you dr has been pretty good right each rose great but otani this isn't just the foreign baseball player of the we haven't really seen like are you seriously telomeres guys gonna be like the the number to starter for the angels to be baton second the other days like are we gonna screw this up it's to my whole thing was sports or sylla show it's espn radio ugo maybe everybody just smarter doing this stuff now maybe you should have been passing more first down maybe should have been spreading out defenses maybe should had smaller linebackers or hybrid safeties it can run around and cover more people maybe we should have been taking more 3s maybe we should have been non position specific in basketball and just let the best players close games and instead of going small call it going better.

"Four to six weeks that said howard worried are you if you andrew friedman in dave roberts right now yeah i i from what i understand this is a according to their initial medical report that i want to be cautious about thing that their initial medical reports his this is not nearly area as the injury that caught kershaw nine week last year i i sent that they also probably he the positive in the negative which is if you're back off him for four to six weeks and you get him back let's make a date hambur that you should pretty much changed came from a two hundred twenty any pitcher this year to about one hundred sixty five hundred seventy hundred seventy whatever number that going could be in there and probably in their true with desires is longest kershaw kinda get back to being clint kirscher over the last week or weeks of the regular season that works to his benefit because they're gonna have to push him and rely upon him in october to try to win their first championship since 1988 and so there who might actually be a blessing in the curse of joel sherman joining us all right so he missed those down we last year so maybe it's not as bad now as was then in addition you have a piece up on new york post dot com breaking down were justin verlander is right now he's got an era jewel below three a and is to start since the all star break it's not a huge sample size but when you consider the fact that he has been better in the second half then the first half for each of the last three years what do you think other teams make of where he is right now so i think the key thing bear jim is wonder if the tigers thinking and what are they willing to do i think that there would be great interesting justin burland or if the tigers turn jim he's june twenty eight million dollars for two thousand eighteen a 2019 it he suddenly became an eighteen million dollar a year starter or a 20milliondollar your starter of those two years i think the tigers could reach into a couple of teams better prospects because of the bulldog and athey of vr vr let's not forget you almost one the seiyung last year people always say he's not you know vintage jump in girl lander.
