"You're listening to the Sean Pendergast field you can tweet me at Shanti Pendergast at Shanti Pendergast here's Sean Pendergast about twenty minutes from now we'll be joined by Joel Eriksson of the Indianapolis star find out what the buzz factor is on Philip rivers there and they still got a bunch of cap space I think I they they have the most going into this well double astral about it they're they're by far the most I want to see coming into the offseason Chris Ballard is really really good at managing the cap or at least it making sure there's enough dry powder to go make moves like signing Philip rivers but they made the trade for deforest Buckner and they gave him a huge deal and obviously give twenty five million dollars to Philip rivers that'll eat into your cap pretty quickly but I think it's a real credit to Chris Ballard that they had there the the franchise quarterback retire on them in the middle of the pre season last year now my guess is they have more of a heads up than the rest of us out on that I remember the night that it happened sitting there watching a week three preseason game between the cowboys and the Texans and then it was one of those news items we have to check and make sure everybody had a blue check mark next to their name that was talking about it wasn't fake but didn't he put a good enough roster together their their quarterback franchise quarterback could retire in the middle of the pre season and still cobble together a decent enough season they they work you know they were an average team slightly below average team but we think enough roster were Philip rivers with that is that that's my best chance you'll win is right there to go to Indianapolis credit Chris Ballard the last year and that the colts had when you know when inter lockout hurt yep things went to hell in a hand basket because it wasn't a very good foster Ryan Grigson did not do a great job of building a roster there so what we'll talk about that with Uhler action a little later on this hour of me time let's get back to the phones eight by five two one two for CBS the union let's go to South Carolina Tom your up on CBS sports radio how you doing Tom I'm great thanks for put on the show it's in a nice diversion I would appreciate it good thank you odd to think real quick first my next door neighbor before I talk about cam Newton my next door neighbor they live in Florida they have two houses they haven't been here in like three months they have a trampoline in the backyard I say that my kids can go jump on the trampoline without asking my wife says no I think it's an unusual time in our country so I love after I'd finished it what goes on that your your neighbors I think they should just go jump on the trampoline suck at Camden he wanted to run Rivera about the help about a lack of better terms are dogs foot and we're very base of got fired because he couldn't manage cam Newton I honestly believe that he's a liability even though he's such a great talent obviously when he's right I I love your your opinion on Camden as a viable quarterback for any team in the NFL sure sure thank you very much okay thanks Tom I'll give you my opinion on both of those things with him it's all about health it's all about help in finding the right fit stylistically did the problem for cam Newton there's two problems for cam Newton one his style of play it's tough to be able to compromise what makes him so unique when he's healthy that physical style of play videos when he's running the football cam Newton is not a guide you can also go over going to dial back his him running and you can just hang in the pocket in pass that's not Kim's game cans game is always inherently going to be a very physical game so it's tough when his issues have been medical to look at him and try to look at him in visualizing being what he was when he was the MVP of the league in twenty fifteen the other thing for cam is he he does seem like he's a bit of a handful and I don't cover came on a day to day basis I'm just going by what I've observed through the years I know there's a lot of good that comes with cam Newton but chances are can't going to go somewhere and maybe be a backup you know that we were running out of options were camping go be a starter cam cam Newton be a backup quarterback I don't mean physically the physical tools used he even with medical issues is one of the the twenty or twenty five best quarterbacks on the planet probably I mean can can can take Vigo head of being a back up I think it's a big question I don't know that he can do to me there's just I certainly wouldn't trade for cam Newton he's scheduled to make nineteen million this year it would be silly to give up any draft capital they have to pay cam Newton nineteen million Bucks I would wait for Carolina to release him they're basically having cams representation do the heavy lifting right now in finding a deal it appears now more importantly Tom your question about the trampoline and should your kids be able to use your next door neighbors trampoline I thought I would ask this initiative **** as a follow up what's your route two things what's your relationship like with your neighbors and what is their situation in terms of security at the house you know if there's any sort of sensors or anything like that is it just a simple matter of climbing over a fence and jumping on the trampoline if you have that kind of relationship with your neighbors if you're friendly with each other and your kids can get over the fence without it you know without any sort of the issue then there's liability though boy if you climb over there and something happens when your kids Tom I you're not going to hear your I don't like hearing this but I would say no don't do it he there's just I would be curious what your neighbors could do if they found out that you did that I say this is somebody who had a swimming pool in the first house I ever bought in we are next door neighbors if they just assume that our pool was their pool we would come home sometimes on a weekend like in the middle of Saturday afternoon and they would be swimming in our pool like it was the neighborhood pool we eventually had to have a very very Frank conversation with them that that was not acceptable do we like them but we didn't like them that much so I would say as somebody who has owned something more significant than a trampoline Tom you're gonna you're not going to do this I would say stay the hell out of your neighbor's yard in this in this tricky time you don't have your kids get hurt there you are trampolines health is your trip to the trampoline have a big fancy thing around it you know the netting the webbing what time there's just a lot that goes into this is a complex thing so I think stay on the safe side don't go back there don't go back there Tom and your kids don't go back there I. eight five five two one two for CBS let's head to Calgary Canada yet tonight talk to James James what's going on what's on your mind okay Hey thanks for taking my call procedure for most my thoughts and prayers to everyone that's going through this thing we will get through it and hopefully life goes back to normal yeah quick question I've been a Redskins fan forever and with the whole quarterbacks that are out there in the drafting do you think what are you I think that we should give Dwayne Haskins a shot here and and and draft that is it chase young the school school number two okay soon yeah they yeah the defensive end out of Ohio state yeah he's really good player so so my thoughts are pick that guy up yep and give Haskins a shot here give me a year at least a year and if it if it doesn't work out then you got Trevor Lawrence coming up next don't you well you do you're gonna have the number one pick overall to get Trevor Lawrence so that's you know they're there they'll be competition it when it comes to sucking there will be competition to get to get Trevor Lawrence let let me let me begin as I I've I've I appreciate the phone call from up in the up in Calgary James thank you very much let me let me dig into this I we just got done talking about him Newton and believe it or not the favorite on the board at that online dot AG to be the favorite to get cam Newton services for week one of the twenty twenty out of a regular season is the Washington Redskins at three to two I don't know that I see it man I don't know no that would be one place to camp ago cams going there here's a conversation in the system to be the starting quarterback I'm not gonna I'm not gonna be a back up to between Haskins and and can is definitely not at a point his career where he's a veteran guy who kind of takes a guy under his wing that doesn't strike me as cam Newton's deal training for Nick Foles with Trubisky that makes sense because Foles is a guy who's been a career back up for the most part and seems to be wired that way were he's cool with being able to do that according to everybody who knows Nick Foles can not the case so who knows maybe it's cam Newton it's starting for the Redskins I I think the leader in the clubhouse is that they're gonna roll with Haskins and if they're gonna draft chase young I think it is an occam's razor situation at the obvious answer is the correct answer eight five five two one two for CBS let's go to San Diego let's talk to Chad Chad your up on CBS sports radio my first thing to say actually got you trick question wrong or what you know whatever you want about the leaner that's true that's a good point thank you yeah you know we and the whole light until they found out like now like so my question is the one we get validated it reversed the call the Superbowl or do we get validated if somebody like I didn't come here to start another LA all I know we just don't know well I certainly I could see the I for sure I got a little echo on the line and we'll let you go chat I've never understood I will say never understood but I I'm not somebody who wants a team leaves the market that I live in that I continue to root for that team I don't root for the Tennessee Titans they left here is the Oilers right after I moved here I moved here in nineteen ninety four in the Oilers laughs within a couple of years so I wasn't nearly as emotionally attached my emotional attachment to a team that left is probably the believe it or not as the Hartford whalers I grew up in Hartford Connecticut and I was a Hartford whalers season ticket holder and he moved to Carolina and I just sworn off the in the NHL since then thankfully I do sports talk radio in a city that doesn't have an NHL team so my lack of watching the NHL doesn't come back to bite me in on this show I can kind of control the topic flow we don't get a ton of NHL calls on the show but the whole thing of a team that leaves and you keep rooting for him maybe it's different because they're still the Chargers there only a couple hours up to five you know you can drive up there and still watch him play so maybe it's a little different if Philip rivers wins a Super Bowl in Indianapolis are you validated because the charger stuck with him through all those years no all a championship in Indianapolis does not count for the Chargers I never understood that when I was living in Colorado the V. V. R..

"And the kings have gotten two quick goals now lead three to one in the second with eleven twelve to go in the period and they're gonna be down a skater Joel Eriksson act in the sin bin with a penalty so the kings on the power play up three two one again the wild right there now in that playoff battle for a final wild card spot in the NHL's Western Conference if you follow golden gopher hoops you know the women have been eliminated from the big ten tournament and you know the men need a miracle to get into the big dance and the only way that's going to happen is if they go down to the tournament down at the Indy Indianapolis and run the table and that is highly unlikely so it's bleak for the golfers a lot of other things swirling around head coach Richard Pitino Willie return what will mark Coyle the AD do they play Nebraska tomorrow at the barn on the other side of the St Croix river though things a little bit Rosier Wisconsin twenty fourth ranked badgers we're down by nine in the second half they come back on the road to shocking Indiana sixty to fifty six in the badgers now have clinched at least a tie for the big ten regular season title badgers twenty one and ten overall fourteen and six in the conference in the last six minutes of the game they outscored Indiana sixteen to five and their half game ahead of Maryland and Michigan state of those teams will play their regular season finale is tomorrow it'll be Michigan at Maryland and Ohio state at Michigan state one thing we know the badgers will be seeded no lower than second for that big ten tournament in Indianapolis so badger basketball continues to have a lot of success in the head coach Greg Gard day of they've got something going over there and you know you're in you're out love him or hate him Wisconsin's football and basketball user is top twenty five at a minimum and in some years the good years they've got top ten type programs the Minnesota Twins today you may have heard it earlier right here on C. CO the game in the Dominican Republic how cool was that one member shall stadium in the D. R. and of course so many great baseball players from the Dominican now and the twins took on Detroit and they get a win seven to six down there in the Dominican read the winner Garcia the loser Columba gets the save but I think the real story here is you get guys like Miguel Sano Nelson Cruz who grew up in the Dominican and they get to go back home and it's a major league game and and I can only imagine the buzz and the excitement down there for this game twin seven eleven and one tiger six ten and one and as if on cue am a gal sono delivers with a home run he was two for three three twins batted in one run scored Nelson Cruz as if on cue went two for three in the ball game with a run scored the twins getting the win in the Dominican and I was listening to the broadcast with the damn glad and Dick Bremer and I think that Bremer does a great job on TV but as well as as on the radio I I've always thought he's a very good baseball play by play guy but that they were talking about how the twins brought all Dominican prospects in the organization no matter where they are on the food chain with them to the Dominican I thought that was a good move it not only gives the young guys a taste of what major league life is like but Hey you're going back home and on the island the Dominican Republic I mean baseball is gigantic it is so popular and you hear the stories about you know young kids some of them growing up in poverty with with broom handles hitting bottle caps and eventually becoming major leaguers I can remember back in the eighties and I was out in the so cal at the time in the first team get to really figure out the Dominican was a was was fertile ground for baseball players was the LA Dodgers whose you'll tend to be ahead of the curve you know they're they're the ones who integrated baseball what Jackie Robinson they were Brooklyn that but they had a scout in the Dominican and nobody else did and suddenly a guy by the name of Pedro Guerrero surfaced in my goodness Pedro Guerrero was a was an outstanding player the next thing you know the floodgates were open and everybody figured out we got a girl scout the Dominican we will find players in the twins do a great job of it and let's be blunt here if the Minnesota twins are going to have success in twenty twenty a couple of the Dominican players Nelson Cruz Miguel Sano are going to be big parts of the success for the twins as they try to repeat as your central division champs in the American League this season and that's that's obviously the goal but it's it's bigger than that they are they are thinking of getting to the playoffs and advancing oh by the way the twins tomorrow we will not have a radio broadcasts but they will play there at JetBlue park at fort Myers they will make the short drive to take on their grapefruit league rival the Boston Red Sox twins now seven and four in the spring of the red Sox are six and ten so that'll be no radio but twins and red Sox at jet blue they will start at twelve oh five central time and of course we'll have the class two A. boys prep hockey title here tonight on C. "This last year was his first year in an orphanage. Offense and newton really seemed to success life success. Yes gregory yes he. He was a teen games. He was on pace for four thousand seven in yards and prepacks. Yes yes yes i was the yards didn't really like a lot but the touchdown touchdown pace did go up a lot. Yes <hes> i think the one thing about these two guys in particular and i think it's going to really benefit in this offense is steve. Smith is a star he's he. He should be in the hall of fame but what these guys can both do that that he did as well but now there's two of them is yards after the cat and you also have what they'll be able to do with a couple of carries per game but i think you know bubble screens and things things like that that they do behind the line of scrimmage that don't count as catches per se but they help them will also sort of set them apart so i think when you're looking at these two guys ah i'll say this as much as i love curtis samuel. I think the ceiling is a little bit higher for d._j. More but that's not saying that both guys can't get to the same level and perform at the same type of production the same type of production. I think that you know you're talking about. Maybe sixty five catches best-case narrow seventy five catches for for one of these guys but the they'll be somewhat close. I think a thousand yards is about what the ceiling and you're talking six touchdowns. That would be fantastic where you're getting these guys is. I will say the hase for more or samuel. Having the big breakout season we were talking about is the other one of those two guys being a dispute. If one of these two can establish themselves as a clear number one in the offense i've got him project right now for like one hundred and eight targets moore one hundred three for samuel but if one of these guys is grab the reins and get the one hundred twenty one hundred twenty five target then you see the upside of top fifteen wide receiver and i think part of the problem. Is you know <hes> with samuel. Now is the all the hype that he's been getting. You know <hes> forget about what we say about him here. There are what i say about him here. I wanna you know put anybody's name on it. That doesn't want you know what i what i what i say about here. <hes> is he was was such a great find in drafts of what the potential could be and now it's like you have to spend the draft capital to almost match what he'd it'd be which is never fun. <hes> yeah well. It's a shame you can't drive both of them anymore. You know you have to invest a little bit too much. It's not like you can you. Can everybody else can if if if you wanted to go round five around six maybe around six round seven but that's not the way you want to draft with receivers. That's something you wanna. Maybe try with running back but you know it's it's taking your friendship strategy and putting it on steroids okay by the way we have a tweet from joel eriksson that angela might have some type of bone issue so we'll update you on that tomorrow. We have only a few minutes left in today's show. We'll talk about that on <hes> on fantasy football today at twelve o'clock eastern his anyone in this group her alcyone jeffrey allen robinson the guys. We've already talked about like anderson patas kirk. I'm gonna stop saint patrick's kirk more samuel. Mike williams is jarvis landry. Sammy watkins corey. Davis will fuller. There's like marvin. Jones is in this group and a._d._p. Do any of them have number one upside aside without an injury and i think the answer is probably no which is why running back seem a little bit more enticing in this range <hes> but what do you think corey. Davis is is part of this group as well. I'm not sure if i send him. Mike williams is so intriguing because you know he's entering his third. Season should be more involved than the offense should have you know a chance to see his catches and yards..

Karl Anthony towns thirty two for Minnesota Andrew Wiggins had twenty three points, ten rebounds, seven assists. That's the kind of line. The timber wolves need to see more out of Andrew Wiggins who was wildly inconsistent. Next up four the T wolves will be a game on Monday against the Los Angeles Clippers and that'll be at target center, clippers thirty and twenty six Minnesota twenty five and thirty huge game for Minnesota because the clippers are the current number eight seed in the west soccer news men. And the first game for menu will be against New York City f c not a season opener is March second for Minnesota United in Vancouver against the white cap. So pretty big gap between when they open the MLS season. And when they actually have a home match, but you can bet weather. There's gonna factor in it somehow some way because that is an open air stadium. Elliott's field in the Saint Paul midway should be some fun stuff for soccer fans here in the twin cities world-class stadium and allience has its name attached to some big time. Facilities around the globe, Bayern Munich, Sydney, Australia, and some other spots all have that name Ali on. So I think the organization feels good about that connection. Blackhawks I power play unit of World War Two veterans in the crowd here, you're honoring the men of the military men and women of the military here this moment during the break. Great to see. Circle to the left of stay lock in the wild zone. The wild will get it version carries behind his net. And then flings the puck the length of the ice down in on Crawford. As along the left wing boards battling with Felino gave it a yoke hard you in the far corner. Back to heal skate at the center ice give it to the flying schmaltz in over the wild line left wing corner. That's behind the net around the cane beside the right circle. There's Kane now holding the puck into circle vendor. The half Ford's Preston divorce by Brodine Jane works at three schmaltz. Tried to flip it back to the point. He did a how're you moves it over to Seabrook point flings the puck to the left wing corner. Taves they'll spend it back in behind around a cane along the right half boards. The tapes beside the net the cane right half force Yawkey high slot Seabrook along the left boards. He tried to put it down to the corner picked off by the wild Spurgeon ahead to breezy, and he'll clear down. Now, fifty four seconds left on the hawks third. Citgo fueling good power. Uekihara from behind the hawk net will start it up Gary to center ice chips, a backhander. The right wing side at center ice to key. The oncoming debrincat now to Kane at the wild line to Keith over the line to the right side boards. Flings it over to the left corner in east among the Gusta Salat point to debrincat closing in top of the right circle. Then to the half board. Deflects off the stick from pattern to the far corner. Justice and got back with four seconds on the power play left point to Kane. Let's circle tried to fire it across this deflects through the air in front of the net. Sealer punches it out of the air to the near corner. Fed back in front to see learn he founded up the left side and down the wild come back to full strength Crawford behind the hawk net. Passing the left wing boards. Quite pastor. Frank, right. Wendy center ice feted ahead for Ruta at the wild blue line. All you can do with Kip it into wild zone. Quick pass. Now by shooter sucker over the hawk blue line. I'm a left wing side. And you heard that whistle offsides called against the while. We have to thirty one left in the second period in the hawks lead to one didn't get a whole lot going on in that last power play. Just got to stay scary on the half four stages of option down low. Schmaltz again, he's got to be more involved in the plane mover move around a little bit more than interesting understand. Stationary. Brent Seabrook on the same side there. If you can't see Patrick Kane than Patrick Kane. Probably can't see you. So find a passing lane for him to execute. Faceoff stays in the wild zone. This'll be in the circle to Alex state loss writing. Muscle while there's been a lot of penalties on both sides. So if you're not on the power play it on the penalty kill you've been spending some time on the bench. To get some rhythm back into the game that you had for the majority of it until you ran into some problems of your own markers crew. John Hayden Martensson out there. The last minute forty four see if they can't get some energy here with some good physical play on the face off has moved in the circle to stay locks left. But Nita writer was already five feet inside the song offsides. They hadn't got out of the zone yet. Real heads up. Fair play. Bingo, Nina writer. A little bit better sense of awareness of what's going on there to bowls on the season. Bernita rider both on the power play. No even strength goals. So far eighteen last year twenty five the year prior. So his numbers way down. This is the second fastest the captain. Jonathan tapes has been able to get to ten goals in his career last year took him thirty eight games against the tenth. Also good sign that the captain's contributing like that. Faceoff just outside the hawk blue line at center ice meteorite or moves it back to Brodine front of the penalty boxes. He fires it down the boards in the hawk zone behind the net. Keith gave it away a pass or shot now from Nita writer in the high slot kicked out of there by Crawford paint will just chip it off the right boards to center ice. They'll snap it off the glass and now we're gonna get icing against the hawks. Thirty three seconds left in the frame. Faceoff circle to Crawford's left to run off. For a while. So. In the face off circle. Ascertained even looks a little bit tired there. Brandon Saad Jonathan teased offensive line. The sticks on the news. That's sure sign that. You're a little bit. Not against coil in the face off. Pains wins at to Gustafsen you'll pick up and carry the corner. Chip it up the boards not out of zone. Dumbo from the right point drop kicks it down to the corner. Gusta since got it there. Put it behind the net. Seabrook will wave at around at the right wing boards and down in the wild zone is a race to the puck McCain's tutoring. Kane painted a nice job to keep behind the wild up for a moment. Suitor moves it out boil over the hawk line. Now, the Greenway left circle fires a shot by Gusta heritage heretic for the left corner. Put it out the suitor left point to a right point long wrist shot to flex up off the glass glasses the horn sounds ending period. Number two. To one hawks after forty minutes. Shots on goal favoring the wild twenty six to twenty three after two periods. So the energy that the hawks had in period number one. They did carry it into period, number two. But a couple of penalties but the wild on the power play they were able to cash in. And now this is suddenly a very close hockey game heading into the third. Yeah. I mean, if you got a recession Minnesota was going to do a better job of what they did other than what they did in the first kid power play opportunity, the first minor penalty for interference gave it a sort of that opportunity. They were able to capitalize on that one. And then continue so momentum page took a planner penalty just over a couple of minutes later. They had some good opportunities. Blackhawks got to kill that. They were looking for. And then the Blackhawks advantage opportunity. With about five minutes to go. That was a momentum builder for the Minnesota wild almost scored another shorthanded goal. They've got four on the season which was tied for second. Most behind the Arizona coyotes pen. Lead there. But. You just saw the momentum. Switch when they had that power play opportunity up until then it was pretty clean and clear. What the Blackhawks were doing five five real good purpose purchaser their game. But think switched around quickly there Minnesota, we'll take advantage of their power play. And then built on that note, the strong killer. It's a little bit of a buzzkill for the hawks on the PK downstairs. Let's join our guest, it's dominant Kahuna Dominic. We really appreciate you spending some time with us here in the intermission. You started this season and played over ten games on a line with Jonathan Taves and Alex debrincat, and then there was a coaching change. And then there were some cages. The lines and how adapted to the changes. I mean, it's normal that that changes are made every time and. Yeah. Obviously, we read it pretty good on that line. But I mean, the line was tastes Kate inside is working on very good. Also, Jerry up to have to make those changes to win hockey games. You guys have some good chemistry there with David Camm fourteen is on the line right now talk about that line. And how you guys are doing an excellent job. Yeah. I mean, lots of times we have to defend the best lines of two other teams. So it's pretty tough for us. Yeah, we still wanna create some offense and Donald Minnesota wild seem to generate some energy and momentum. Once they got that power play opportunity, and they scored on that. How do you turn things around here? Heading into the third. Yeah, you're right. When they got the puppet, it's good right away and more Kansas right now where we got we got now time into period to to get going again. And yeah, we we have to get the two the Minnesota wild in their act of defense or good jump into the play. How important is it for you guys to make sure that in the defensive zone neutral zone that you have your head on the swivel knowing where your responsibilities are course, this'll be a single get some really good deeds there who can shoot the puck and McKay may place who always go to offense too. So we have to be careful with the puck. But also always be aware without the puck. Well, dominic. We certainly appreciate your time here in the intermission Donka, Shane and Al fetus, say thank you. Dominic guests after two periods. The Blackhawks still lead the lot the wild. But only by a goal at three two one. Chris Boden is standing by Blackhawks central with a full intermission report. Then third period action will ensue the hawks will look to hang onto this lead. And add to it say look to take down their division rivals. The Minnesota wild here on hockey fights cancer night. This is Blackhawks hockey on seven twenty WGN. Well, the Blackhawks were gearing up for the nineteen thirty eight championship run. Chicago patrolman Federal Credit Union started eighty.

"Shots on goal. Nineteen thirteen hawks up to nothing. Those shops in favor of the wild face off to the left hand side. A Cam ward, Charlie Coyle. Arcus? Krueger case. Your listeners wondered what the heck is vitamin at is. Thank you, my friend in Russia. You only know a little bit of Russia inside the hawk zone at the right point version takes the puck for the wild sends it down behind the net and up the far side. Seabrook became entangled with one of the wild players Gita writer, put it through the right corner to coil. The Nita writer talkable west circle guns in on goal and more Nixon. Nice sliding save in the butterfly position as Seabrook and Joel Eriksson mix it up beside the net. Seabrook just glaring at him Eric's neck talking pushed away face off to his right towards right anyway, ten twelve left in the second period. Bruce Boudreau switched his lines up. It looks like he's made another adjustment. Eriksson extroverted was stall Zuqar now moving down to the line playing with rider, Charlie Coyle. Jordan Greenway a big kid plan up on that line now with stolen Zucker there on the ice withdrawal one by the hawks. Here's Rhoda carrying out the right side, pokes that ahead at center ice the next week deflects the puck down behind the net for racing in to create havoc their works at frito off right corner. Tried to put the puck from the half board back to the corner and picked off by the wild stall the Greenway over the hawk line, right wing side tracked it down in front of the net. Puck slight suitable left wing corner. Greenway got it there. Back up the boards for taint tried to clear out near the point. And it's taken by Greenway. He'll chip it down the boards in behind the hawk net. Brandon manning battling there with the wild Jason sucker and put it away to the near corner. Chops it up the left wing side. The Kuna talk blue line. It slowly along the boards into the wild zone. Not far enough for icing, but far enough to the hawks complete a line chairs might little veteran play. They're by kunas knowing that is line. Get off the ice just shift at downstate on the ice to make sure that the Knicks quick pass up the near boards. Liquor slings backhand from the right side the center ice over to the left wing corner. Hawk zone, batted Parisi top left circle. He tried to fire it in on goal. Blocked by Duncan Keith spend it ahead for debrincat. The wild blue line off his stick and down into the wild end were pattern shouted ahead. Seabrook took across the wild blue line. But the puck is immediately pulp checked up into the Hawk's bench nine sealer of wild. Healers are good young defense and for the the wild. I like his game. He's got a real bike to it. He's a tough kid. All right. We'll take a break eighteen left in period. Number two.

"Saints fans fired up. What nine line's lit up right now skid. Steph could conversation about Marcus Davenport, Ken Crawley about the disaster. There was the defense this last week. We'll get back to your calls here in a few minutes. But let's bring on in Joel Eriksson covers the saints for the advocate. Joe is up man. What do you make of this defense? We're talking Davenport, we're talking Crawley. But I mean, there wasn't mature many bright spots on that back end. There wasn't. I mean, let's just be honest. There wasn't a it's not just the back end. I mean, the whole the whole. The whole defense was bad. I actually thought Joe actually thought when I watched the film. I'm just curious here. Sorry to interrupt. But I actually thought that the front four might have been played worse. And I've been more of a disaster name in the back end. And I'm not saying the back was good, obviously. Yeah. I- figuring out who is worse than a game. Like that. It's just so hard because it was it was really bad. I mean, I only remember a handful of of plus plays just off the top of my head from the entire game. It was it was really startling. Let's just let's just put that way. It's it's. You know, I've had people be like, well you've been around us before that was that was different Tampa Bay. Never got stopped. The only the only time they punted with a with a play that fits Patrick Mr Guy for seventy five yard touchdown or something. That wasn't that was a stampede. Joel. That was that was that was as bad as it's going that was as bad as ever gonna look really was. I mean, it really really was. I'm curious here with Marcus, Dan, berlitz, just get this out of the way. Upfront. I've kicked the hornet's net here a hornet's nest here talking about Davenport, and I just I only talked about the stats here. His last forty one snaps and I realize he's a rookie. And I'm not going to go into that all again. But this last forty one snaps he has one tackle he has to pressures. He has no sacks. And I simply say Joel that he's got to be better than that. I don't have high expectations for him relatively. But that's not good enough isn't. Wouldn't I I wouldn't think so especially not in the situational ROY? He's he actually I take that back. He wasn't really in a situation a role. He was really more spelling Alex Okafor played. So he played several rundowns the other day. But you're right. It's not it's not good enough yet. But I mean, it depends on what what we're looking at with that. Like if if everyone's taking that as this pick was terrible. We can't we can't do that. After one pick. You know, what I mean like in terms of in terms of whether or not he's being affected right now. I certainly don't think I certainly don't think it's been anything more than flashes. So far and realistically, I think saints fan need to be prepared for the fact that that that might be his rookie season pass rushers take typically take a little while to get going. And so that that really should have been the expectation all along is that there might be. Chance here that that it doesn't look spectacular at all this season. I mean, Cam Jordan have one fact as a rookie. So there's there's there's something else to be to be considered. But you're right it he's he's not made an eye popping impact by any means. So far. Yeah. And I just I just get concerned that when you're in a Super Bowl window Joel like the saints are right now. And I guess unless you're New England because they're in the whole category to themselves unless you're New England this true Super Bowl windows, don't come around every single year, and they don't stay around for a very long time. And when you're in this window when you invest that pick and really multiple picture count next year to that guy. And you're saying, well, he's not gonna do anything this year. It just concerns me, man. I am Jim just me here. Honesty, doesn't you're right. If you have picked who would you have taken with pick that would have guaranteed you immediate impact. Well, I don't know if anything would have what pick. That guy. There's not there's not that especially in. This is supposed to be a this is supposed to be a pass rusher. Poor draft. And and that generally board self out if I remember right with how people got picked pass rushers don't hit free elite pass rushers don't hit free agency. Typically, obviously Khalil Mack. I traded. But I think if anybody knew that in April. Hey, Ray says they knew that Naperville, they're lying. So I get what you're saying. You want wanna get a guy who can help you in the Super Bowl window. But. The other thing is a pass rusher. It there's no guarantee that you're picking anybody in the draft. He's going to be an immediate impact player. That's just kinda the nature of the position. Yeah. No, that's true. We've talked about that a lot. That's true. But I don't want to rehash. I guess I'm going to move on from the stop because we could talk about the draft very long time. If you could tell me who they should've picked to help him win the Super Bowl by all me the pick. I don't think they have it. Right. No. No, no. I'm Joel I'm with you. I'm not saying bury the kid after one week. But do you agree that we've got to have do you think that forty-one snaps no tackles to pressures and no sacks. Do you think that's an appropriate line for him? It's it's a rookies line. But Joel that's just not true. That's not not for guys who were picked fourteenth overall in the NFL. Allocated Zeki you look at Zeki land Saad he had Sachs's rookie year. What did JJ watt rookie year? He also wasn't. He also was making an impact not just from a sack standpoint. He wasn't standing out there being a guy a throwaway. You've got his you've got his first game stats in front of you to know that his first game. No not talking about his first game. That's not what I'm saying. Just know I'm talking about his expectations going forward this season. I'm saying, do you think that if we extrapolate that over the entire season that you would be okay? Oh. I don't know. If he doesn't have any impact whatsoever. It doesn't make any tackles. It doesn't have any like pressure. That's bad. Yes. But we don't know that that's what he's gonna do. Seasons seasons. Like what what people do in the first game of the season. Frequently isn't what it is. I I can't I'm not gonna make a guess off of the last forty one snaps and say this is who is for sixteen games. JJ watt. Six sacks what forty eight tackles his rookie year there. I mean, that's fine. That's right. It doesn't mean like, but like I I can't take forty one snaps off. And that's forty one snap. That's going back to a preseason game against third ringers. It is. Yeah. But like, I mean, if you're what you're basically doing is. You're saying you're saying we need to declare him a worthless. No, I'm not wait. Wait, Joe where where do you get that? Because you're you're throwing these guys that means saying he has to be an immediate him like he had this huge immediate impact. But one of said that. All right. You just hurt you with me you said, well if he keeps doing this for the for the rest of the season either disappointment. Well, yeah. Okay. No tackles, he's a disappointment. Yeah. I said I've said I've said multiple times that I think four or five somewhere around there sacks and a situational pass rusher. But my point is the reason that we're having this conversation today is people are acting like he can do. Absolutely nothing this year. And I mean that literally absolutely nothing this year. And that would be okay. And I don't think it would be okay. I mean, I just don't I don't think if we're in Boston. That's not okay. They would be burn the place down if we were in Green Bay or Pittsburgh or Kansas City wherever and for some reason in this market. And I mean, this we have gotten lackadaisical, I guess because all the bad drafts that this team has had out of the time of the last two years, and we just think all these first round picks that's a commodity that you can just waste, and I just I just don't see that. Joe? You're not from your you know, that you're from Packers. Do you think the pack? I think the Green Bay fan base would be okay with this. Now, you're now you're putting it in my I didn't say that. If he did this season to see. Okay. Okay. Fair enough. I I said I can't assume that he's going to do that based on his first forty one. Yeah. Well, I think maybe we're on the same page there because I agree. I will say this. If he doesn't do anything that season. But then makes the Pro Bowl the next six years than the pickles still be worth. Oh, sure. No. No. No. I'd look maybe I haven't been as clear about this as I meant to be this whole night. Really? But I've said it in my show a lot you really can't judge guys. I don't think it all till after their probably their third year about how their career actually going go. So I don't I don't even think next year. But if they, but if they go if he if he has a terrible rookie season and then make the Pro Bowl six times or whatever it's a good pick. That's true before Super Bowl window or no good conversation before I let you go. I'm just curious. Do you think? That was a fluke on Sunday, or do you think a little concerned about that defense going forward? I think you have to be a little bit concerned. It's you know. I mean, I mean, maybe it was fluky. But it also is it was so it was it was so startling that. You you kinda. You definitely should be a little bit concerned. I I would say if I would say the saints probably feel that way. But also, also we you can't just go with it. And just say, well, we we saw Marshon Lattimore have a rough game. So it's entire rookie season. Doesn't mean anything. Call him a bomb. Yeah. That'll compound it for me here. You know what I mean? So like. It's concerning, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's time to jump ship. And honestly, it wouldn't be after the second game either. Because of what happened last year? Oh, no, I will say this the different schedule this year. So I'd be a little bit more concerned because it felt like you had you you wanted to pile up wins early because some of those heavy hitters around the back end. But but just just knowing what we know from last year, you have to take the first couple of games with a grain of salt. And I think I think that that, you know, once once it starts piling up, then you're in trouble, you know, through that now to that actually had the team to of their first four just because when they always start slow under Sean, I don't know why I guess maybe there's reasons for that maybe the lack of physicality and Cam that's conversation. Another day Joel that was fun. Actually man at present the conversation. I know no, I'm getting by the way, the majority of my audience is certainly on your side. Here. We got texting get him Joel set set for us at center straight. So there you go. Oh. Thanks for the time, man. Hey, we'll see Joel Eriksson covers the saints for the advocate at Joel Eriksson. We will take a break back with.

"Yeah you you look about a decade younger than your so keep that? Up, well I, mean that's That's? That's, the whole, goal I figured surely there'd be, somebody below my? Well actually you know what I. Just, realized there is one oh is he wasn't not. There or she not there Josh cats and. Seen, is younger. Than. Me oh. He. Is, okay all right okay well we we don't. Talk about on. This program we love John I, mean he's. Obviously. Not a. Partner. But, yet he is younger than me so I'm. Not quite yet I was the. Youngest in the immediate vicinity which also. Surprised yeah indeed we love Josh just giving him some business here you've got, a couple of pieces today let's start with tasting hill. Because there's going to be endless words written. About tastes him this preseason of talked about? That a lot it's going to be a little bit absurd what's you take man on? Tastes and what what's your take on what, you've seen from him and not only of a quarterback. Perspective I, guess that's mainly what I, mean here but also he was really. Going on special teams today Yeah It's so, early it's it's hard to form you see flashes of the, athleticism what tastes them at, quarterback and you see flashes of why he went undrafted. Too I hesitate to say. This but you just I just wanna see more I want like a week to know what I'm really looking at special teams right it's really a unique thing the only other quarterback that immediately jumps to mind who does some, of this stuff is. Joe Webb Joab played for the believe the Panthers for a long time. And. Was a, number three emergency. Type quarterback who also played specialties but it's pretty rare most, quarterbacks don't have the Atlanticism, out a play on special teams hills really he's like He's. Like a like a small tight end or a big wide receiver and any. Plays? With a lot of physicality. So it's an interesting thing they've gotten themselves into if he'll were to somehow if nowhere to win the backup job then I assume you have to come off a special because you can't have your backup quarterback getting hurt in, a game before drew. And leaving drew as the only quarterback on the on the active roster. So. He doesn't I would think but I it's an interesting little situation they've got. Going with him The agile. I'll tell you why we talked about that hit that he put on Arthur, Mullah that's. One of the bigger hits that I've seen in any saints? Practice recently just, trucks what was, that. Like are two or something on the sticker the up. Stick, whatever that is man he just blew up Arthur melodic, NFL bad for, me well, he's he's a big guy like either really big dude For not. Just for a quarterback he he'd be a big wide receiver he'd be a, big and. He he's he's almost linebacker side he's a little bit center? Than linebacker linebacker, so he's a, big. Guy and at full speed he's got a lot of. Speed, at full speed that that packs a wallop and four Found himself on the wrong end of it today He started talking to. Jill Erickson, here covers the saints for the advocate you know. The number one quarterback on this roster drew Brees he. Just looks, as good as ever. To meet Joel I mean the dude is incredible Yeah I it's interesting I it's interesting to find out that the thing was, great quarterback to the it's really hard to see whenever it comes tends to, come at the cliff but it's. Obviously not, here yet you know he's a guy who's taking care of himself meticulously for years. And it's paying off I think the other thing that you know with greed that he really just for my sack perspective and. A quarterback hip perspective he probably hasn't taken as many hits as other quarterbacks who've gotten to age just by virtue of both the saints offense and his own his own ability to get the ball out. Before he gets hit so. That's probably helped him I think that's probably helped his longevity and his ability to stay as as in. Condition as, he doesn't you know, you think about like he's not like a guy like Brett. Farr by the time Brett farve got his h smashed over and over and over and. Over and over again granted by his. Own playing style breezes the different player that he doesn't like to take sacked. Isn't, like he? Doesn't, he, he he Smartly keeps himself out the hit I think it's probably helped as longevity. To go, to the other side, of the football Alex okay fourth podium he just looks really. It looks as big as in shape as we saw him last year it's coming off. The injury this year and you wrote. That you know he thinks that he's going to be pretty darn explosive on. The football, field Well, that's that's what you always worry about the achilles I mean pelican's fans obviously Read something about that's why you know DeMarcus cousins they, ended, up going to the warriors for her pittance because because you with achilles injury, yours you always wonder about the explosion Okafor. Field, like for field like that there you know he. Would go, better than any Achilles in his legs and his his body and I. Think I think the thing with Alex Okafor draft Marcus Davenport and everybody kind of forgot what, else Oklahoma was for the first ten games of the season last year he was he was exactly really what the. Same meted out of a complementary piece to camp Jordan and if you can get him if he if he can play at or near. That level it really takes a lot of pressure off of Devonport? Because he's not going to have to be. A fifty guy he's going, to be able to, kind of, eve into it the way some other rookie pass rushers have in the past couple. Of years what's your, take on. What you see from the defense so far and I know it's like the paddlers really, so, you're not seeing much especially in the trenches what your what's your feel about, the depth on that side of the football The death is really I mean it really it's really striking it's really striking the you know how how deep they are certain positions. And I think the hard thing is like like you mentioned they're? Not in pad yet so like I'm a. Guy who likes to watch, the lines and it's, really not, that instructive in the first couple of days but you know they Cam Jordan and. Alex Okafor I think brought a little bit, of a limited, pitch count today and didn't. Play as much and normally I in the past whenever Jordan we'll have a day like that you you'd you'd be down pretty. Far on the, roster But now it's it's the guy never going out there when those. Guys weren't. Out there Marcus Davenport's first round pick and it's great Hendrickson it's, a. Third round pick it was a key part of the rotation last year it's it's guys who've done it before and you, can kind? Of see that all over the defense all right I'm an end with this Tim. Zimmer. Come on the Mike. Here Tim, you remember when you were in. School and, you. Were in. The hall and you wanted? To get a drink of water what what what would you call what you got that drink of water from the waterfowl Marfan okay that's. What I did, you know growing up a, long time ago north west okay Joel Eriksson. What do you call that apparently in Wisconsin Well it's. This. Is this is hard. To explain, because I am from Wisconsin and. There are, people. Call the. Bubbler but not in my? Region of Wisconsin Oh he called it at drinking from a bubbler which is a great name by the, way it's fantastic name for it yes Actually not actually not my? Part of Wisconsin. That, that, says no but apparently we asked AJ Klein, and I asked you know what do you. Call it he said bubbler. So He, knows from over he's. From over on the east east side of the state where all the people live by Lake Michigan, so he he's probably a good, resource so, yeah. No it's it's above lower. I'm kind. Of with everybody says. They are going to start could. Just, calling a, bubbler great name man grain and also what Tim a, Bong Bong I ain't got something else I don't I don't, think. That's I don't think you get water well I, mean not, the kind of water you're? Gonna wanna, drink. Anyways Suppose. Joel, Eriksson appreciate the time man we'll see you back out there tomorrow We'll see Joel Eriksson Joel a Ericsson on Twitter you can find his work. At the advocate articles on. Tastes mill and outlook for you wrote earlier today we'll take, a quick break we will come back with an updates on. Our blue runner food's. "Kamara added saints camp today let's go to the phone. Lines are open for you open lines all show long where we're going to do pretty. Much all training camp 504-260-1870 that's. The number to join on let's, go. To Jimmy in? Gretna Jimmy what's up tonight Great show man driving home from work look. On smell do a quick synopsis. Here you know what the law, in. The sports calendar You know, we got, the same tomorrow at the training camp opened. To the fans, I of course on paper they look great if, they healthy you know you're. Looking at LSU maybe seven and five if they're, lucky kinda, rebuilding year if, that's possible in college, football no less. Miles get given does your on a hard time about. That thing you know telling. His fans the fair with. Them, if you will I think Tulane is going to. Make a bowl game they, got, close by share got a, really? Good quarterback yeah we were talking about that Jimmy out at camp we were talking about, the hey, that quarterback better stay healthy. Right but we do think and pretty, much everybody, who. We were talking about the. Saints camping two lanes a bowl team this year If the kid from Kansas City transferred over last. Year he got hurt a, little, bit but if he stays, upright? Delays going to be good Christa the great coach and then you're looking at the pelicans, you know, you gotta doom their staff You know LeBron price though one more play out spot, ahead of the pelicans there you, know the Lakers what we know right or wrong they're. Going to probably make, the playoffs and they might be ahead, of the, pelicans and totem pole now But you know you kinda see too and the saints are high out there stock's going up. There LSU I mean you know kinda borderline kind of maybe could be a tough year and then I check with that and you're not call up, a lot about. The pelicans in? The pelicans ended and training camp open to the public now tomorrow and everybody's excited so am I but now, this is the, shift staff from the, thing I mean for the pelicans Bosley. Or the off season And you know I have we done enough, to you know. And we're not? Going to hear from that I know you will talk. About that you love the pelicans you bet I will Yeah then you'll hear me talk, about it but, to be told. This is a football city and the focus is now on. The saints prolly to what, maybe February it depends. On how good the. Pelicans are and Jimmy you know this there's. No reason you can't be a football city and a budding basketball city remember what happened in Bali reverse the, tables more what happened. In Boston people said the same. Thing I'm, telling you people said the same thing when Bella check, got there, about that time about, a decade, and a half God this is a Celtics. Now this is a hockey city you. Know football is going, to be. Big here Look I. Mean look I was hoping gale, after Tom passed away I know everyone's going to dedicate this season, the players the Tom and everything he did for this city. Great, kudos he was a great gap man, did a lot for, the for the saints and, why and the pelicans hours hoping she dumped point was gonna acknowledged the. Pelicans need for support from the city and we know, the saints he, goes six and. Ten impact the dome it you know drew Brees is what. Five games away probably from, breaking the all time. Yards record is gonna. Be a great year and there's going to. Be a lot of fanfare around it because of that and I mean the high expectations but I was hopeful, and maybe you agree. With this or not I'm going. To hang, up and let their response from it That she was going to address Future the pelicans endow say look now. I'm kind, of taken over thing you. Know the pelicans are a priority they're not just the secondary scenario that we're gonna talk about three. Months out of the year Davis now with two years left on his contract and. The way things go into MBA now it seems like the year before the final year start here rumors the trade is trade that in our. Wanna be Debbie Downer about it this is a big year for the pelicans though as we. Switching gear and I love. It I wear the things year I. Got season tickets to the thing let's not forget how important is coming year for the. Pelicans and have, we done enough I don't know but I know that we need the fan base to support him like they do the same and and tomorrow we're, gonna see that all the footage the mobster. You'll be, out there down him I, mean tomorrow for, a sold out like you said the. Training camp event is sold. Out I went to pelicans practice it wasn't much of a turnout Yeah and look, I'm. A huge basketball guy that's just something a little different about a basketball practice and a football practicing just the physicality of the game of football and even, I, am, not too keen on watching too many. Basketball practices, and just to go back. To your point about Gail I've heard you call before the show and I know you called sports. Talk and kind of pleaded for MRs Benson or do something like that and make. A statement on the you know the safety of the pelicans franchise here in her priorities that's just not MRs Benson and it's not going to. Happen you have a lot of owners in sports like that they're going to let her guys. And gals in the front. Offices of those franchises run that team. And she's going to be an owner that's will be seen and not heard from a. Lot she likes, to be at these games she likes to be front and center but she's not going to be you know a Jerry Jones really not even a, Tom Benson we're gonna take a break thanks. For the call Jimmy great as always. 504-260-1870 if you, want to jump on in Joel Eriksson. Of the advocate coming up. Next to talk a little saints Scam I'm Seth Dunlap it's double coverage on WWL.

The nine eight five yeah but it's not like ends is chump I think everyone is. Overlooking that chump you're not coaching in the SEC at. That level as an offensive coordinator. By being shot but it's all relative It's like saying when we. Talk about the NFL quarterback. In the NFL player and you say man he's. Bad, well it's relative right like Charlie Whitehurst. Is an incredible quarterback compared to just. The everyday average person everyday average guy right now on an NFL football level a little. Bit of a chump Do I think is a chump, no, I actually. Don't, and I, don't? Think his, story has been fully written I will say that there were better. More qualified people available for that job but coach oh, hired again a good old boy Can at. Work yes am I concerned yes because other major programs have gone out down. That Globo, path, and has, not worked very well 504-260-1870 if you want to join in I'm Seth Dunlap it's double coverage here on. Mitchell Laban the saints. Defensive tackle was, right there and ended. Up sitting in the rescue of the driver that car and he's actually on sportstalk earlier tonight so we'll get to, some sound from that was just fascinating and of course the. World Cup, wrapped up, France Beulah FOX as they won the World Cup over Croatia ten year. Holes in the roster and they did that for the saints. And camel or, is the winner at that article so Tim Zimmer are sharks studio your producer here got, Kamler four so we'll talk to..
