"A tiny bit like Pinehurst in North Carolina, where there's sand and there's scrub and there's rough and the grasses are different, they have a different texture. But no professional tournament has been competed at this venue since 1940, so you can't really forecast how the professionals are gonna play. And a ton of guys were practicing, like in the run up to this US Open, well in advance of kind of the typical practice schedule, and then onsite Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. The golf course had tons of guys on it because they wanted to, the reputation for this golf course is that it really requires strategic thinking, cerebral, because the ball is gonna behave in unpredictable ways. Everything we earned on a golf course. We are not capable of meeting any of those challenges. You're right about that. But one of the things that we observed and that we were looking at is the combination of the most rain that Los Angeles has experienced in over a decade, maybe longer than that, combined with the June gloom, the marine layer kind of thing, had the double effect of kind of creating a softer golf course than what the character of this golf course might otherwise be. And just a few - A flaccid golf course. I love it when you talk Dickie to me. Yes, yes. The golf course was flaccid. Well, and - Get this golf course to some Viagra. We were walking the grounds, literally feeling the grass under our feet, and there was humidity in the air here. Yeah, June is fucking weird here. Yeah. June is very strange. So it led to the possibility. We said this on our preview pod last night, Nathan Hubbard and I, that there could be some low scores because of how soft. We were very lucky. We got to walk inside the ropes with Joel Damon, who was the greatest dude ever. And we walked nine holes with him, and we watched him hit, and we watched him and his caddie, Gino B, talk through strategy and stuff, but we're like, you know what? Some guys might score out here. And we thought if the weather was like it was today, similar to yesterday, the sun never came out, it never really baked anything out, and the USGA has to, because it's 156 guys playing in this US Open, has to put pins in places that are kind of accessible because you cannot have guys out there grinding. The rounds already were averaging over five hours. To get in all of the rounds Thursday, all the rounds Friday, they have to let the guys have a chance to score a little bit. So you think that's the case on Friday too then? Possibly, possibly, probably. They can't really ramp up the golf course in a way that they can control it until the sun comes out, and maybe there's some sun in the forecast tomorrow afternoon, we think, but also until there's less guys on the golf course. Because part of the charm of the place is tees and greens are very close to each other, but you can't have groups waiting to tee off because there's a group adjacent to them, very close to them, next to them, finishing up putting on the thing or playing the short game because the pin is in some impossible position. So all that leads to accessible pins, soft golf course, these guys are effing awesome. And so we had two guys shoot scores today that have never been shot in the history of the U .S. Open. Both Xander Shoffley and Rickie Fowler shot 62s, eight under par. What's Rickie Fowler, what NBA player is Rickie Fowler? Oh, this is a great question. I think we've done this before. He's kinda like, he was fun like seven years ago. And he's still immensely popular, and he has some wins under his belt. It might be Dame. Maybe a little Dame? Wow. I don't know. I don't mean that as a nod. I feel like you offended some Portland golf fan who's like, what the fuck? Really? Dame's so much better than Rickie Fowler. Oh, okay. No, I don't know. I mean, I guess Dame did get to a Western Conference Finals. Maybe he's Bradley Bieler. Though, Rickie Fowler did have a year where he finished inside the top five of every major in one year. Oh, that's Dame. That's pretty fucking good. Great one. So the odds right now, Xander is the favorite as we head to Friday, plus 300. Rory's at plus 500. You're a kryptonite. Rickie shot - Not my kryptonite, my love. Well, you're a kryptonite because he takes money out of your wallet every tournament. It's just an investment. I'm invested in Rory. Rickie Fowler's somehow plus 650. Not somehow. He's 800 par. Well, I would've thought that would've been higher. He's minus eight right now. He's third best odds. Sheffler, plus 650, DJ's. It's so good to see DJ back in the mix. So who, you have any bets for us before we go? What are you looking for tomorrow? I think it's gonna be very similar to today. They will put the pins probably in positions where there's a little more scoring defense, but I still think guys are gonna score just fine. And I think as long as the weather behaves like this, it really isn't anything they can do because they have to get the guys around the golf course. They don't want guys playing on Saturday morning. My favorite bet on the board right this second to win the U .S. Open to Scotty Sheffler at a plus 650 out of all these guys. He putted incredibly well today. Oh, he fixed the putting thing? Well, we fixed, I don't know. We'll see. And all the reports and interviews and everything. Thursday, Scotty fixing? It's his best putting performance in like two months. And so if he has a comfort with that, his T to green game is so incredible otherwise I like this. When you look at the guys that he has to jump over, I feel like it's conquerable. Want to give us one dark horse? Let's go further down the board. Let's go to our guy, Vic Hovland is 35 to one. Beefy Bryson, 25 to one. Beefy Bryson is interesting because there was some skepticism about his ability to play well at this venue because he has a reputation of just trying to hit it anywhere as far as he can. And Nate said on your body he was looking huge. Yeah, we got very close to him. We were down on the practice range yesterday enjoying watching the guys grind in the afternoon. He's a monster and he's still, I mean, he really slimmed down. He's not carrying the same weight that he carried when he bulked up to be one of the great longer hitters in the game, but he's still big. He still swings with speed. All the training that he went through. But he also has, and he showed it at Oak Hill at the PGA Championship, and a real acumen with approach. And there was some skepticism about whether or not he'd be hitting greens kind of in regulation. He's decent at it. So Bryson's not a terrible bet there. Rahm at 20 to one is pretty good because that's a guy who could definitely go out tomorrow. He shoots like a 61. He could. There's no two ways about it. He was super frustrated today and that's the thing where you're saying, what's Jon Rahm, what kind of experience is he gonna have at this golf course? He's gonna be pissed off. Well, is pissed off Jon Rahm, the guy that can win? Probably not, but what if he goes home, has a nice Merlot tonight? I don't know if Jose Andres is here. You get a nice paella at one of the Jose Andres restaurants and then just calm, get himself into his end zone and go shoot 61 and then it's game on. Did you like this golf course more than Brookline last year? Very much so. I might be, part of it is me confessing a bias for - I love the Brookline course. So Brookline - I mean, I grew up right near there, the whole same thing. Like I know what - But actually as an actual course, it's not like amazing. East coast golf courses, I know what they look like. I know what they feel like. This feels exotic to me. Like I don't get to walk around the LA canyons very often. You know what I mean? And it's like, you're down and up. Here's the thing, it's a harder walk than Augusta and

"Standing outside one of their rental cars having a chat. So maybe they're maybe it was a good chat. Maybe it's a bad chat. I think it's kind of like, it's just kind of left hovering in the air until it happens again. A couple other guys worth noting, Sam Burns. Looking for his three played one of the rounds of the day today, shot four under finished 6th. And then Justin Thomas had a nice little rally T ten, good to see him playing well. Zach Blair really from nowhere finished T ten, which I imagine gets him an extra start. So maybe he doesn't have to use another start on his major medical, but I'm always a little hesitant saying certain things with certainty about. Where is that start? It would be the Dominican? Yes. I don't even know if he needed that. Yeah, like maybe that's an event that he is just getting into anyway. It's kind of a, it's kind of a week where, yeah, we're coming off the high of back to back, designated events. Like this is sort of what the, what the regular PGA tour events are going to look like, I think, for the foreseeable future. And I think that that's an encouraging thing in the sense that, yeah, we still have Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood in the mix, along with, yeah, I guess Webb Simpson and Justin Thomas wasn't too far off the pace. I guess this is like a good vision for yeah, it's just a positive vision for these events. You have drama down the stretch. You have a tight leader board. You have compelling stories. You have first time winners. All this good stuff. I don't know. Do you feel like this model we're going to see and feel good about it or question it or what? So I think this is kind of fun for our jobs because we are learning about the process of the future as it comes. And the perfect event is the vast bar. Because it will not get elevated. Designated. However you want to coin the term, at least in the near term. I talked to one of the people that runs this tournament. And they're like, no, we don't quite see the value as much for valspar to put up the money for a $20 million purse. And so this will be a designated event that follows two designated events in the future. And where does that leave it? Is there really going to be this hot pursuit for those final 5 spots in the designated events that a valspar can help push you into? I think from the people I've talked to, I was talking to Aaron fleener, JT poston's caddy. I was talking to Nick Taylor and Joel Damon, and a lot of these guys, and I mean, people are going to be really playing a lot of golf.

"Which I'm kind of struggling with to pull it up right now. I'm going to go with Joel Damon. Oh shit. Okay. Joel Damon is going to be my pick for the cut. We ran into him. During the players, him him and his guy are in great spirits. I mean, they've had a great run. Speaking of Danny and the Netflix thing, Joel and the Netflix thing is, you know, we've known that Joel, we've gotten to know Joe. We've played him in this four minutes scramble. We've done interviews with him. Every time we see him, it's a hog, it's an embrace. We know how great of a guy he is. So the fact that the whole world now gets to see that side of him and how great of a guy he is, makes me very happy. So I'm picking him for my fourth cup. I'm going with a guy named David lingmerth who had a great little run here with a T 6 at the players. I'm going with David lingmerth. He's a Swede and his last name reminds me of a lemur. That's a great pick. Great reasoning. I'm going to go with Justin Thomas because isn't I think a cat? The lemur is like a monkey monkey. All right. Madagascar. I'm going with Justin Thomas because I'm foreign for, which is embarrassing. Justin Thomas needs to get his shit together. He has one top ten and 7 starts this year, but he hasn't missed a cut on the year. So he's been kind of living in that T 20 range. That'll work, Justin, just we just need you to make the weekend. Well, we are rigged. Riggs keeps Riggs keeps putting out the records of our for the cut. Success rate. And it's fine with me because I think I'm 7 and one on Riggs is undefeated. It's Danny that catches the bullets because he's 500. You are what your record says you are. So I think I'm a little I missed this week. You're up there with me. Yeah, I think you might be safe. Oh, then maybe I'm 6 and two, 'cause I had horses. The minute that those records start to flip, you probably won't see me post them all over the place. But for now, that's sort of the world that we're living in. All right, I'm gonna go. All right, Justin Thomas is the betting favorite, so that's gonna kill odds a little bit, but I like that you're trying to get that record up. So of my two picks, then I'm gonna go with the one that is the long shot. I'm gonna go with Eric Cole, who is plus 10,000. So he's a hundred don't want to win this week. So I think that should elevate our odds pretty good. The other one I was gonna go with was Justin suh, who's 35 to one this week, but I'm gonna go with Eric Cole, try to get those odds up there. He was great. At the time that he has missed, I believe he's missed two of his last four cuts. But he made the cut this last weekend, played pretty well at the players. He missed the kind of thing at bay hill, and then the week before that, but anyways, that's who I'm going with. I'm going with Eric Cole is my pick. So we got Joel Damon from Trent Brian. We got David langmuir from Frankie Morello. We got Justin Thomas from Dan rapoport, and we've got Eric Cole from myself. Very nice.

"He also had a killer farmer tan. They all do, right? Like there were a couple guys that took off their shirt. Yeah. And then it made me feel so bad. I was like, that's what I'm talking more of this. This is what I like. They were wearing a T-shirt. I think the perfect line right down the middle of their bicep and I thought that was kind of interesting. Scheffler, I did not realize the domination. That guy won his first and then did not stop for like three months. It was when major, man, out of nowhere. Now that dude I like. That dude seemed legit. I like shuffle her a lot, and then I feel like he sold a soul to the devil though. There are certain people like Robert Johnson, who sold his soul to the devil to play the blues, Led Zeppelin. And all of a sudden, it just happened for them, and I don't really believe that's a true thing. But it was almost like that with scheffler, hadn't won, had it one, made a deal with the devil. One everything. There was awesome. And then finally, I was watching, and then it was, who was the final one, the British dude, but the funky pants. That's if it's Patrick. Ian poulter. Ian poulter, he was honest about Liv, and I could appreciate that. He's like, I got a family to take care of. Okay, cool. I like that. At least you're honest. That's all I care about. Johnson two was kind of the same way. Don't spoil it. I haven't been there yet. You haven't seen Dustin Johnson. You should have popped up in the first four, no? No, then I watched the one about with my new favorite of all time, who is Joel Damon. That was four. Yeah. That's like, that's a dude. So I loved it. Four episodes in, I give it four and a half pitching wedges out of 5. Yeah, it's great. If you're a golf fan, even if you're a casual, they're kinda, you know, the part of your hardcore golf you probably weren't down with them explaining how the cut works and what each tournament is like you play over four days and you play 18 hours a day. We got it. But they have to kind of explain the rules for the casual, but it's so fun. It's so jacked up. It recaps kind of the wild 2022 in the PGA Tour with the new live stuff coming on. I thought it was crazy fun and I can't wait to see your reaction to the last four episodes. That's your homework tonight. Four. Watch the last four. You realize I got to do a radio show before this and then I come and do this and I have another video show in the morning and it starts at 3 a.m. when I'm out west. I will try. I've only got so many words I can say in the day about 12, 13 minutes away from my Aaron Rodgers prediction with extremely inside sources. So don't go anywhere, like 13 minutes from now. It's probably going to hit every Twitter feed that talks about football period when I say this. Breaking news, 13 minutes from right now. I do want to talk about Kevin Durant. I don't know if you guys watched any of that last night, but they had him on a minute restriction. He was playing with the second team mostly and looked awesome. He scored 23 points in 27 minutes. And so obviously they're not running them full right now. We had an MCL sprain. There he is there. You look great. I mean, I was talking about this yesterday. And Denver obviously has been consistent all season long, and people think in Denver can come out of the west, but after watching him play with the second team basically last night. That him and that second team could be a second or third seat in the west himself. Kevin Durant is so good, we take, I think we take for granted how great how elite the captain is because we've had LeBron. And in sports, you could probably list a few of these. Without Roger Federer, you probably have erotic being 5, 7, 9, ten years of the greatest tennis player of that generation. Without Tiger and you can do this all day long, but without Tiger, Phil Mickelson is that dude. Without LeBron, it's Durant, but Durant's a top ten player ever. And he comes out with a second team in demolishes. Devin Booker, 37.6 rebound 7 assists, I just don't think it's going to be the same thing that's happening in Dallas that's happening that will happen with Phoenix. I think you have two guys that are a little more mature. And I think that them playing together is going to be different than Kyrie and Luca who both need the ball and I think they're one of the one and three. Are they one in three? I like to move though and a lot of people said about the Mavs when this happened was they didn't like the move. Here's the thing that feels good about this to me is the Mavs are trying, which if you're Luca, you want them to try and it's not like they signed Kyrie to some long-term crazy deal. It's four months basically. It's rent a Kyrie and let's see what happens. It's like a rent is center to do. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, hey, remember that. Been there. Yeah. It's got a lot of my furniture there in the early days. And sometimes it was like the Columbia House when you get all the CDs like the best. Well, 12 for like a nickel. And that's all I paid was that. That's it. I'll keep getting them be like after me. Bill came, I ended up in the trash bunny. Same thing with my rent a center of

"I don't know how long this video is going to end up being. But make sure that you're there at 8 o'clock because you don't want to miss anything. And then sometimes it gets confusing. You want to go back. And then if you refresh, it hits you at the live time, and you don't want to get spoiled. 8 o'clock at night, make yourself a drink, put it on the TV. It's always best on TV, put it on the TV, grab some popcorn and just watch this thing at 8 o'clock. And if you don't, watch it later, but I'm just saying, I just want everyone to be a part of the premiere. We're going to be in the chat. We're going to be talking about it. This is Wednesday night, 8 p.m. Eastern Time, 5 o'clock Pacific. What was our record against PGA tour pros going into that? I believe we are three zero and one, maybe four O one. Is that right? Well, yeah, we had we had a tie. That's an L though. That's an L we got to stop calling that a win. That's a tie. It's not hockey. Nobody lost in a playoff, which was like, it was devastating. You guys in your hockey and your hockey rankings are absurd. I like to make jokes about it, but we have to say it's a lost because we should have won. We should have won the playoff. We should have won. It's a regulation tie. I don't know the rules technically on format and scrambles and playoffs. And if we can really go to them. I know kisner had told us in the first match that there's no way we're doing a playoff, so I don't know if that was set up. But anyway, kisner makes all these rules up every time we've played a pro and told them rules. They've laughed at it. We told Billy horschel. We're like, oh, you can probably just drop one club length and as long as it's not in a different type of grass and he's like, no, I can't. I'm just playing the rules of golf and you guys are scrambled so you get to do whatever you want. We played like legit scrambles of Billy horschel. He's like kisner wanted you to move a kisner was moving around trees and shit. He's like, well, if you guys get a club length I do, it's Billy's like, no, you don't. So Kevin kisner, we defeated one up. On 18. Then we played Joel Damon. We crossed crushed him. We beat him. I think we ended up beating him three and two technically, but it was uglier than that. So we're two and a pat Perez. We defeated one up on 18. All square on the 18th hole, he had a violent 360° lip out, basically in the last whole lurch hit it to like a foot and we made birdie to win one up. Then we played Danielle gang, we beat pretty handedly. I think we beat her three and two or four and three or so. We played. Oh, max homa. And that was our next one. From a PGA pro standpoint.

"Big show, we got hardy, our good friend hardy on you guys sat down with them for nearly an hour in New York. A bomb that I missed it because hardy's one of our favorites. I'll never forget our first interview we had him on when he spoke about almost like he had a little bit of impostor syndrome that you've heard max homa and Joel Damon talk about a little bit where he was a songwriter forever. He still is, a lot of guys have obviously saying a lot of the songs that he wrote that you probably know, and then he became not just a songwriter, but obviously a performer and this kind of country star. You guys sat down with him a huge golfer. So that's coming in the second half of the show. We were going to get into some more Dan rap live versus PGA Tour stuff, but if you would speak now, Dan rap, I think I don't know that's going to work. Before you guys cut me off, I just want to say, before you guys come out, I just want to get this in there. That was the Saudi sports equinox this weekend. There was front and center that you Manchester United against Newcastle. Tommy Fury and Jake Paul fought in Riyadh, live golf going on Christiana Ronaldo, who they paid 200 gazillion dollars was at the Tommy furry Jake Paul fight. That was the Saudi as a sports weekend is going to get all spare you guys for the rest of the time. The show, you just can not in an audio form, have that noise for an hour and a half straight. You just can't do it. It won't allow it. Bye bye dad. Bye Dan. It's an executive decision. You have to get rid of that guy when he sounds like that. It's an audio show. We like his input. We obviously love having him on the podcast, but when he sounds like that, it's a no go. He's just going to sit on the bench because he has an upper body injury, and at the end of the day we have to just move on without him. Get that typewriter out, put the microphone away. "But there's a caddy that maybe not a lot of people know about who I absolutely love is max mcgreevey's caddy. His name is Brett swedberg. The guy is hilarious, he's a family man, lives in Denver, he got started out here caddying for Ryan Moore a couple years ago. And Ryan and Joel share the same agent. So we've bunked up and he's absolutely fantastic. There's a few caddies that you meet along the way and right away you know like this could be one of my guys, like I really enjoy him. And he was one of those guys for me for sure. All right, I've got one last question. Me too, you go first. Three years ago now, we interviewed Joel Damon Wednesday of the genesis. We film, we filmed it all almost three years to the day. And we asked Joel, Joel. This episode is going to come out in the future. It's going to come out here a week from now. So can you predict before the genesis where you will finish at the end of the genesis so that people in the future can see if you were right or wrong? What do you say? Said if I hit driver well I'll finish T 20 if I drive and putt really well, maybe I'll finish in the top ten. I think you maybe said T 12 or something. And so I wanted to pitch the same question to you now. This week, yes, where did you enjoy finish this past week now that it's last week? When people listen to this now, how will you have finished at the gym? This week we finished I'm usually pretty good at this. Yeah, Joel will not hear this until afterwards, so it will not. No, that's fine. We finished 18th this week. Why? Because I'm trying to put it in the correct tense. Joel hit his driver pretty well the week of genesis. Three weeks in a row usually he starts to peek in that week three. He's taken a lot of time off with their newborn baby that they've had. He was playing really well in the fall.

"Free dropped here, no doubt. Wow, that's a key sideways. Drove it into the penalty area. Wow. That was a shank. It's hard to believe watching this. I made an unbelievable loading a drop zone. Hello folks. It is Sean and Dylan, your two favorite co hosts. Here at Riviera country club. In sunny Los Angeles and we're just talking about the lovely interview we had with Juno banali. Is that it? Gino banali, finale. He is the caddy for Joel Damon. And if you don't know him already, you'll probably learn his name and his story when you watch full swing on Netflix. Well, you're gonna learn it in like a half also. Once we get to our interview within, this is a good get for the drop zone. We are highly selective on the guests that we book for a reason. Mostly we just don't always book them. We just talk to each other. But this was an absolutely no brainer, especially when we learned he had an empty mansion that we could come recorded in. We were going to sit on the floor, they delivered a couch just in time for us to sit on that instead. There is video available of this. There will be going up on our drop zone YouTube page. I don't know, Sean, I don't have that much to say, except that I would like you to listen on to the interview because I think it's really fun. Yeah, and I think you decided that we share one of the best stories and drop zone history. Yes. Well, Gino does. We have very little to do with sharing this. We pulled it out of them. We did ask a question. It felt like Gino was ready to share this story. God, I hope you enjoy. We are here in the caddy Casa, the Casa de caddy with, I guess, probably our favorite caddy, right, Dylan? Well, we definitely don't pick favorites or job be objective journalists, but yeah, Geno's got to be top 5. Sure. Can you pronounce your last name for me? But Nelly. But now Gino

"I haven't gotten to the last two episodes yet, but I agree with you. I think it's really, really good. I think it's probably not what some people were hoping it would be and those people are negative about it, but if you take it for what it is, man, I think the people like the feature of them just as human beings as people has come off fantastic. And I thought that Joel Damon episode was maybe the most likeable thing I've ever seen. He and Gino are the team to root for. He just him having white claws during the U.S. open qualifier in between rounds, pounding them and then going out there and shooting 5 under and then almost winning the U.S. open to finish and top ten. That just sums that guy up awesome. So yeah, I agree. I think the thing's fucking fantastic. And I do think it's going to have a pretty positive impact on our game here. Yeah, the show's a hit. The show's a hit, I was talking to Chad. He said it's tracking a lot better than they thought it was going to. Season two is full swing is in full swing. Season two is full speed ahead. Guys who are not down to be in season one are down to be in season two, season two is going to focus a lot on the Ryder Cup, which is going to be really, really awesome and really electric. It's real, man. Yeah, that's true. But yeah, the Netflix effect is real. It felt like there was more buzz this week, and that's kind of one of the things I wanted to say on this podcast is like just kind of feels like the PJ tour's winning a little bit right now. It really does. Like Tiger is sort of the Trump card, like having him at any tournament is going to immediately blow any Liv golf event out of the water. Obviously. But between Netflix between Phoenix and the great week that they had in Phoenix Super Bowl in town and Scotty and rom and then rom and oma and the guys who are crying after losing the tournament because of how much it means it just feels like the PGA tours in a really, really good spot right now after you could argue that the 6 months from June through December live was really on the front foot and I just feel like the establishment the everything they wanted to happen with the elevated events with Tiger coming back with this Netflix show is happening and the product has improved from last year. Any time you mention, if you compare the PGA Tour and live like on Twitter or whatever, there would be people who would be like, oh, that lives living rent free. You're just thinking about them. So it's also interesting to competing leaks. So you got to talk about it. It's the only currently the only other sport, the only sport where there's just this rogue league that's trying to take all these players. And I agree. I mean, it just seems like you can't, you just can't compete with what the PGA Tour is doing. It's hard. They have the Waste Management felt like what live wants itself to be, but you can't build that overnight. You can't be like, this is how we're gonna do it, throw a bunch of money at it and have it appear. And the PGA Tour just has this history. It's got Tiger, it's got Rory. It's got GT.

"Kind of encapsulated the emotion involved in the show. They do a great job of showing golf from engels. We don't see golf PGA Tour golf on television. We don't get side angles all the time. From various things, or really close up shots. We're even really far away shots. We are used to down the line shots on the CBS broadcast because they have to. They have to pay attention to the scores of that exact moment. What club is being played? How many yards there are between the lie and the whole and so Netflix doesn't have to pay attention to all that crap. And so they can kind of dive into the emotion. And so you get the emotions from Justin Thomas and his dad when they won at southern hills. You get the emotions of Tony finau crying about his mother when he kind of goes back to think about his upbringing. You get Joel Damon, also crying about his mother. Getting emotional talking about his caddy Gino. Matt Fitzpatrick's family, extremely emotional. I found myself knowing exactly what happened in knowing exactly what was coming in each episode and still getting kind of chills seeing it happen. I guess that's kind of that's the idea. If they can get me to feel emotional about it, they can get my dad, my mom to do it too. Yeah. It's funny. I think about this all the time of, you know, there's such demand for immediacy these days and I think that sometimes we get we get obsessed with that. It's our job. Yeah, you gotta have the story ready when the last putt drops or whatever. But like when I was a kid first reading sports writing, first reading Sports Illustrated, I already knew what had happened, but I would still wait for the story to arrive in my mailbox Wednesday or Thursday about a game that had happened Sunday. And this is like the ultimate version of that. There is there is some stuff that will make news, but really you're seeing a behind the scenes version of something that you've already seen. I mean that you've already, you already know the results, you know how it went down generally. This just gives it a richer texture and you have a better appreciation for it.

"And someone came up with all this, this figure of styrofoam, I guess, at the beginning of it. And they're like, oh yeah, this makes fucking sense. David cash in for a while. That's for sure. I didn't realize James Naismith was a Canadian. That's a stunner to me. That's a big one. For basketball. You mentioned University of Washington, you were you there when Joel was there for the brief time Joel was there? Yeah, we came out on the others fresher and then I was still tending University of Washington and he lived here for two years. Yeah, so Joel kind of talks about this in sort of evasive ways. He kind of was like, oh yeah, it was a bit of a crazy guy. What was Joel like for that one year in Washington because he did not last very long. So Joel and I got a lot closer than the end of our school or our first year and we live together. He all of himself most stories, but no Joel is great. He likes to have a good time. I don't think school at that point of his life was for him. But so he actually wasn't he was going to the community college, trying to come back to you, dove, and I think he probably went for a year and just called it quits for that, but we lived together for two years, had a great time. He golfed occasionally. Drank more beer than probably hit golf shots, but we had a good time. That's our guy. That's right up there. He's gonna be pretty, he's very prominent in this in this series, right? I mean, every time. I'm excited. Yeah. How excited are you that he named his child after you? So I do feel I've felt terrible because I want to say it's like an it's a family member whose name from like, I think maybe his wife's side or something like that. And I looked when they posted, I think I woke up like fucking hungover that day or whatever. I look on his Instagram and it's like, welcome to the world. Rick Saban, I went through and it was just like every other comment was tagging me and I was like, that is the last thing on earth that they want on a day like today. Luckily, Joel school, I don't think you really cares, but I got like a handful of texts from people. Like, a couple people at work being like the Joel Damon name is kidnapping. And I was like, no, that's just that's definitely not. That would be psychotic. There's another, one of the NFL quarterback has a dog, I think name. No, it's tapes. That's devonte. It's for Canada. He named his dog Briggs. How did he hit it? I think there's another one. I think it's Riggs because he's also a Friday night lights fan. I'm getting crushed by this fucking son, by the way. I don't know if you guys have seen. I'm not powering through any of it. It's been completely taken all of my blinds. You can't splurge. It's coming through the blinds. It's coming through the blinds. I have a shitty blind system, I guess, because it's blind in me is what it's doing. You got blinds on your hoodie.

standings with 23 points While the Bloomberg sports update I'm Tom Rogers This is masters in business with Barry riddles on Bloomberg radio I'm Barry results you're listening to masters and business on Bloomberg radio my special guest this week is doctor Charles strom He is the CEO and cofounder of liquid diagnostics He has been advancing genetic testing for more than three decades previously he was the medical director for genetic testing at Quest Diagnostics where he pioneered DNA testing for forensic and paternity applications His work has led him to appearances on such shows as 60 minutes and Oprah doctor buck strom welcome to Bloomberg Thank you for having me Barry My pleasure So let's start a little bit with your educational background You graduate University of Chicago with both a PhD in biology and a medical degree was the plan always to work in genetics Yes From the time I was in 7th grade I knew I wanted to be a scientist And as an undergraduate I became interested in prenatal diagnosis in particular And when I was an undergraduate I did research and found that one of the centers to do that research was at University of Chicago in one of my early mentors Albert Dorfman had published paper on prenatal diagnosis for hunter syndrome So I actually sent him a letter typed it out on my Smith Corona electric typewriter And it's a him and lo and behold a month later I got a packet of information Say how would you like to come work on my lab over the summer And that led to my entering an MD PhD program that was called the medical scientist training program was a federally funded program It paid for my tuition and gave me a living stipend as a 6 year program turned my MD and PhD So yes I was always my plan to be a medical scientist And you worked under biochemical geneticist William nyhan whose kind of legendary in that field tell us a little bit about working with doctor nehan and what you learned from him and what that experience was like Yeah well that was fabulous So again this was a cold call I started out in between my first and 12 one year of college And my adviser in the master of my college was scientist named Richard goldsmith and he said hey I have a buddy doctor William nyhan out in San Diego Maybe I could send a letter and you could go out and work for him over the summer between your freshman and sophomore year in college And it was like you know somebody asking me if I wanted to work for the Pope And I said yes of course I do And same thing He welcomed me He had the laboratory and he and his partner Larry sweetman got me hooked on biochemical genetics And then after I went to medical school got my MD got my PhD the obvious choice for me to do a residency was at University of California San Diego where doctor Nye and had become the chairman of the department So that was just a no brainer So I ended up doing my residency there and for the three years of my residency and fellowship I worked I worked with William nyhan Who has an encyclopedic knowledge of biochemical genetics and it was just a fabulous experience for me Tell us about some of the grand to pursue genetics of growth disorders that you were working on at the University of Chicago They seem really quite fascinating Yeah so from a very early age I was interested in developmental biology which is the science studying the mechanisms by which we go from an embryo in which all cells are identical to an adult where we have hundreds of different specialized cells And Albert Dorfman my mentor University of Chicago was working on the differentiation of cartilage In chickens So I was cutting off limb buds from 9 dozen chickens a week And growing them in tissue culture and they would differentiate into chondrocytes which are cartilage cells in tissue culture That was involved before DNA sequencing DNA analysis was available And then when cloning started gene cloning I got a grant to clone the gene for human cartilage specific collagen and to see how that got turned on during development It was very exciting So how does that lead to pioneering DNA testing for forensic and paternity applications So I've always been what I call an applied scientist Scientists out there really come in two forms One is the basic sciences the person that really wants to delve incredibly deeply into one particular problem I always was more interested in how are we going to use these developments to help people in particular I was a professor at University of Chicago DNA testing for forensics was just in its infancy DNA had not yet been admitted into courts in Illinois I was approached by several different prosecutors who had very difficult cases in ask if I could if I could do DNA testing to support their cases and being an academics and having some academic freedom I said yes in legal in Illinois I don't know if this is around the United States There's something called a fry hearing where before laboratory.

"Your leg back at Lancaster Country Club on TV Green, and it is time for a check of the PGA Tour leader board the Wells Fargo Championship this week at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Three way tie for the lead. Gary Woodland, the former U. S Open champion, is amongst those including Matt Wallace and Patrick Rodgers. Other notables that air near the top of the leaderboard Rory McIlroy, and a tie for fifth. He's too out the leader for shooting a 66 yesterday. And first round leader Phil Mickelson, who we're going to get into here for a few moments is three off the lead. He shot a 64 on day one and a 75 on day two. For Mickelson. It was the highest score following around in which he shot 65 or better in his entire PGA Tour career. So he went 64 75. He was paired with Joel Damon for the first two days, and they had some interesting comments. Damon had said earlier in the week. He's been trying to get a match with Mickelson for years. He goes, I finally get one here. He was asked Thursday after his opening round Kevin about what was it like playing with Mickelson? And he said. It was a great quota goes. Yes. He provides a lot of information out there on the golf Course s O. Damon, by the way, only one behind Mickelson at two under. Bubba Watson. He's a 300 power. Patrick Reid is at two under on. There were some big names that missed the cut, including John Graham. Kevin, I know you're following Rob a little yesterday to well, let me first say this about Damon. How cool is that? That you know, Here's a pro in a guy won for the first time this year is like I finally get to play the film like Was pumped, right? That's a cool deal like the see how excited he was to play with him. Um John Rami was interesting. So is cut streak ended, He made 22 straight cuts of the longest active streak. Of making cuts on the PGA Tour, and he had a chance to make it down the stretch. So on 15 so birdie's 14 to get to two over par. And which end up being the cut. I believe over two made it to make it well, But at the time, it was like thinking you need to get the one. He has a birdie putt on 15 of those, maybe 10 ft, where it and and he missed it. He's walking off the green. Any stairs up to the camera tower. And they caught it right, you know, And he said something like so some some noise or something insinuating something distracted him on either is third or fourth shot and gets a 16. You know, he ends up going to the 17th T. Anyways, he's still too over. Still thinking you need to get to one because it was teetering at that point puts it on the green. Now, 17 is such a difficult hole the distance wise, you gotta carry the lake as lake on the left side, You know, front and left. Even if you hit it long left on the green. The greens are so firm there they have a sub bare system. Um, it runs off. I've I've seen players. Ryan Armor was having a great round going and the day one and he hit the center of the green and it went off into the water. I don't think it by the way, I don't think any golf course should penalize you for good shot like that. Holcomb penalize you for a good shot. That's what my only problem with that whole 17 you can hit in the Senate of the Green. And it could go into the water that to me should not occur. But anyway, Rahm had 43 put it and, you know, sent the ball for ball, wash. It was a hard chuck. Yes, it was already afraid to tear my arm if I threw a golf ball that hard Well, the interesting thing was the part. The part part It was like five ft. It was center cut all the sudden it was going down the holds. One of those deals were everybody's had this putt. Not even the horse you where it's like. It's falling in and all sudden it just it doesn't go in. You're like, how the hell did that happen? And so I understood why he was angry there. Well, there's a good reason because I picked him this weekend, our fantasy pool, and so I finally get my guy got two picks in out of four weeks wherever, and they're both. They both Mister, please. Austin Johnson and John Ram. Yeah, At least you got played mine. I picked the hometown guy who lives on the golf course. Simpson Webb Simpson, who Thanks for the wait, Wait. I couldn't even change my pick and the withdrawal webs with one of nicest guys in the world. By the way, I'm just, you know, you know he's a neck issue, but I liked him because it's it's home course. Yes, I Made it a perfect three for three. We all missed the cut. I took Tony Fino, and so we're all out this week. We're golf experts, though. Just so you know, that's right anyway. Yes. Speaking of the finish ahead of you two guys, By the way, That's right. All that matters. Long season. Speaking of our fantasy golf pics, Yeah. A lot of we've got 145 people in our league and which is the way we could get more. There's monthly prizes, so there's room for more. So here's the deal. So we have. We're giving away prizes every month. So April. We put clothes on this week. And we want to announce our winners here. Full disclosure. Person who actually finished in first. Was my brother Jonathan. Cozy. Oh, loser. I know. So I promised him in the email. If you're in the league, you saw it. I said, you know. He's obviously an immediate family member here with show, so he's he's not eligible for our prizes. But he's doing the league for fun, he says. It gives him a reason to kind of follow along for the tournament this week. So pride, not prices. That's right. So we gave him an emoji trophy in the email that I sent out to the entire league this week. So he really appreciated that sweet right. So are 2nd and 3rd and 4th hour, Actually, our 1st 2nd and 3rd. So congratulations here. I promised a little on here love to our winners this week. So for the month of April, Rudy Fish is our winner.
