"How much do these like long cycles sort of correspond with like essentially ideas that are invoked? You have to wonder whether the direction of causation. And this, I think there's something to the idea that phases of economic life, whether they be markets or a nine to five world of actually producing things, as it were, that the background music of enterprise kind of conjures ideas. I'm not sure if ideas cause that. Maybe they might. Well, these ideas are recurrent. I mean, I'm told that generation, what comes after Z? I don't know. Whatever my daughter, I don't know. I've got to find out what that is. They're socialists, apparently. So, we'll reinvent that one again. I've given you a very poor answer to an excellent question, Joe. That's all right. Well, just on the notion of these long -term cycles maybe starting to shift, it does feel like previous decades were about sort of lower interest rates. And during those previous decades, we basically built the financial system around the assumption that government bonds are the safest thing out there. Super safe. Super safe. Government bonds, the yields don't move around that much. And yet, in the previous year, we have seen big question marks around the safety of government bonds and the stability of yields, which have resulted in a few things breaking to your earlier point. We saw troubles at the bank. The Fed reporting an accounting loss on its own balance sheet. What does it mean for the financial system as we move into potentially a higher rate environment or a higher vol environment for rates? I think one of the ideas that has sustained markets over the past called generation is the idea of Federal Reserve competence, the notion that people at the Fed know what they're doing and can make things happen. They are weathermakers in finance and they're responsible for the great moderation. They're responsible earlier for Paul Volcker is mastery of the inflation problem. So I think that the Fed will be revealed as a bunch of well -intended people who are involved in a kind of pseudoscience and people will wake up one day and say, I noticed that my weather app is accurate for a day or two, but out 10 days, I wouldn't bet my dog's life on it. And yet we listen patiently, even reverentially The economists at the Fed talk about what's going to happen next month or next year. They know nothing. I The future is a closed book. The screenwriter named Goldman, Butch Sundance, Ken and others, such great. And he said, apropos of Hollywood's forecasting and building. Nobody knows anything simply in Goldman, correct, correct as the fashion of future. The difference is that the Fed thinks it knows something. "Chairwoman Romney, I want to talk about debates with you. We have a fixed field. Former President Trump, former Vice President Pence just dropped his announcement video. Governor DeSantis is in. Senator Scott is in. Ambassador Haley is in. Former Governor Christie dropped his announcement yesterday. Vivek Ramaswamy has been in for a while. I think those seven will get the 40 ,000 minimum donation. Not sure if Governor Hutchinson will maybe. Doubt Larry Elder will, and he's my colleague. And North Dakota Governor Borgum, I'm not sure he will, and I don't think anyone else will. Do you think the field is fixed at those 10 serious candidates, seven of whom are likely to make the debate stage? Yeah, I think we've got the field pretty settled now as who's getting in. I think everybody understood. If I'm going to have to get a $40 ,000, a $40 ,000 small dollar donor base, I'm going to have to get in before August. So I think that field is mobilized. And I think we've created good criteria. And the reason why we've done this $40 ,000 small dollar donor threshold, one, the Democrats had $60 ,000, but the Democrats have a better ecosystem at small dollar donations. And if our candidate is going to be anywhere near competitive with Joe Biden, they need to start creating this building block towards success. And we need to make sure that they have a small dollar fundraising infrastructure. And that's why we're putting this requirement in. If you can't do this, you really shouldn't be running for president. You're not going to beat Joe Biden. So we're not doing it in a punitive way. We're doing it in a success metric. And if you can't do this to get on the debate stage, you're probably not going to be able to take on the incumbent president of the United States.

Markets Mixed as Debt Ceiling Bill Could Threaten Liquidity
"Bitcoin, Ether, and other top tokens are down, and markets trading mixed, but mostly lower. Traders of risk assets broadly, though, are paying close attention to ongoing movement towards a multi -year suspension of the U .S. debt ceiling in a deal that has both Democrat and Republican members of the Business As Usual club declaring victory. The agreement passed the House last night with majority support and now heads to the where it's expected to pass as well, before being signed into law by U .S. President Joe Biden. You might think that with uncertainty around that threat and default likely to soon be over, that risk assets would be hopeful, but that's not exactly how things may work out. Once a suspension is signed into law, a few things are expected to happen. First, the U .S. Treasury will have to refill its almost completely depleted Treasury General account, also known as the TGA, which means selling some $500 billion worth of debt into the financial system, which means they will be extracting that much cash. This is likely to hit risk assets in particular, as they tend to be more sensitive to liquidity conditions than safer plays such as bonds and many groups of equities, macroanalyst Noel Acheson said, continuing, The Treasury drawing down its account at the Fed was one of the tailwinds for the market earlier this year. As money that would normally just sit there was put into the economy in the form of government expenditures, Acheson explained. She continued, Now the reverse is likely to happen. The government needs to replenish the account balance by issuing debt which will draw liquidity out of the market and back into the Treasury's

Debt Ceiling Deal Gives Unlimited Debt Until 2025
"All right, friends, well, today, as I said, we are hopefully wrapping up or at least putting a big momentary pause on the macro story that has dominated markets for the past few months. Yes, a deal has been reached in the debt ceiling standoff with both President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy making major concessions in order to move the matter forward. The deal on the table would suspend the debt ceiling entirely until the 1st of January 2025. Presumably this puts off the next dispute over federal borrowing until the middle of that year and uncapping the debt limit in the interim. The core of the argument is a two -year cap on federal spending, although each side is presenting the story slightly differently. The White House claims the spending cap would reduce spending by around $1 trillion over while the GOP argue that spending cuts are twice that level. New York Times analysis puts the spending reduction at around $55 billion next year and another $81 billion the following year. So let's talk about what's actually in the deal. The set of tradeoffs in the deal have caused outrage among numerous groups of ideologically aligned lawmakers and special interest groups on both sides of the aisle to the point where there are few truly happy with the compromise. Now that of course might mean in America's polarized politics that it's actually a good compromise deal. IRS funding has been cut, with $20 billion of the $80 billion in additional funding to bolster the tax department now being repurposed to fund discretionary government programs. And what's worth noting here is that early in the negotiations, this IRS funding was a red line for the president. You will no doubt remember when he said that he would not accept any deal that benefited quote wealthy tax cheats and crypto traders. Another aspect of the deal was that work requirements for food stamps recipients will be expanded. However, the cohort of people this will affect appears to be small. Only impacting recipients aged 50 to 54 while exempting veterans, the homeless and people who grew up in foster care. However, negligible the effect on the budget, the expansion of work requirements within the benefits program was an important symbolic policy for hardline conservatives. They just left it blank but voted down ballot in the in the metropolitan areas of atlanta that we had produced senate approved got twenty thousand more votes twenty thousand more votes than trump. Democrats opted to be more mindful of moderate concerns in their party than of its progressive ambitions. Archer daniels fedex nike on and on and on our moderates really concerned that those corporations may actually have to pay millions of dollars in tech. Because right now they're paying zero and billionaires are continuing to figure out how to pay little thing hedge fund titans are paying taxes at lower rates than their clerical employees of the people who show further. Workers wages do and so now democrats in congress are saying. We need to raise the taxes on people who are working but leave billionaires alone as they continue to amass capital and continue. Senator mansion has a new piece in the wall street journal titled why won't support spending another three point. five trillion. Senator mansion writes this quote instead of rushing to spend trillions of new government programs and additional stimulus funding. Congress should hit a strategic pause on the budget reconciliation legislation. We must allow for complete reporting and analysis of the implications a multi trillion dollar. Bill will have for this generation. In next i for one won't support a three point five trillion dollar bill or anywhere near that level of additional spending without greater clarity about why congress chooses to ignore the serious effects. Inflation and debt have on existing government programs. Senate budget committee chairman bernie. Sanders was quick to respond to senator mansions bed arguing. Both tracks of the infrastructure proposal must pass or neither will senator sanders tweeted this rebuilding our crumbling. Physical infrastructure roads bridges water systems is important rebuilding our crumbling human infrastructure healthcare education climate change is more important no infrastructure bill without the three point five trillion dollar reconciliation bill so vendor with a fifty fifty split in the senate. There's no wiggle room whatsoever for democrats here. What gives will there obviously in the short term in quite a pickle. We can't square the two sides mansion in sanders on this. I think when you talk to democrats behind the scenes a trillion dollars for hearted structure is the floor. I think everyone believes the end of the day. They're going to get at least that mansion is not saying he won't support a lot more than that if you read that he's basically saying wanna pause in any more explanation before i go anywhere near the three point five clearly. He's saying there's something between one point five that he could live and he's using his leverage. Probably like you should have your senator to maximize his hand. Maximize his power and shaping that final facts. I think there'll be a lot of twists and turns. Obviously democrats would rather get this done quickly in heavy unified party around it. You're still going to see democrats getting a bill on infrastructure and probably some of these other topics it's bigger than almost any bill in the history of the country. There's a lot of spending going on. He's not wrong on that. And people reflecting on the cost of the upside downside of spending is probably not on advised in. Ill advised so. I do think up. Before the end of the year you will see it. Infrastructure bill probably something above that it fits between one and three point five trillion dollars that bernie. Sanders wants to victoria. But where is the give here as jim says the probably be something huge numbers we're talking about by the way up in the trillions again where to joe mansion and bernie sanders find that common ground to push this through right and send her mansion is doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing as swing vote in the senate one thing that he said in that op. Ed though willie was a little bit frustrating for me worries that if i can't explain it i can't vote or in policy can be extremely complex but when it comes to infrastructure whether it's physical infrastructure bridges roads or human infrastructure childcare provision paid. Leave that to me is probably one of the most straightforward policies that people get in they connect to drive on roads every day. We take our kids today daycare. So i think that one is not necessarily the. The argument. city's gonna win. Does he want to be a little bit more conservative. Fiscally okay but people get it and they know that this is going to affect their lives people putting their markers down before the senate comes back in session. Those fifty democrats will have to get together to figure out how to push through these trillions of dollars worth of legislation meanwhile congresswoman liz. Cheney is back in leadership in the house of representatives just in a very different role the wyoming republican will serve as vice chair of the house select committee investigating the january six attack on the capital the same day congresswoman. Cheney was named to that position members of her own party launched another attack against her house. Freedom caucus chair congressman. Andy biggs and sixteen other members of the republican party. It's almost comical to see these sixteen because they are a bunch of clowns in a lot of regard. Say just say things to get attention. They're not serious. Legislators and the fact is is at liz. Cheney is not going to be just the face of nancy pelosi. she's taking this very seriously as his adam kinser and i believe that we're going to see things that may surprise or even upset some democrats on on cheney's line of questioning potentially but this is a bigger problem for mccarthy since he wants to take back the house in twenty twenty two. You can't start getting rid of good conservative members and then not looked so extreme when you want to win back some swing seats in in the two thousand twenty two elections. So i mean. Let's just put a fine point on this. Liz cheney and adam kuenz and your god forbid wanna take a look at what led up to january six and what happened on that day. Republicans want to. Now throw them out of the party. This group of republicans. Anyway throw them out of the party because of that the republicans are going to up with three issues on the table. With when you're starting with its party of morrissey in the last few weeks here the three flags. Republicans have risen one. We don't want to look into insurrection against us government. We don't wanna do any investigating as to what happened with one of the saddest days. Most frightened days to democracy. America issue number one number two. We don't have to make. There were quite a few republicans quite a few conservatives that were critical of donald trump people like liz cheney who work critical of donald trump kowtowing to the taliban and mike pompeo signing as h. r. mcmaster said the surrender document to the taliban russia and people like like trump in pale does need to find a good opportunity right now to just shut up and stop criticizing something that they set in motion. Now all of that said joe. I will add and i think you will agree with me here. This was not for ordained automatically. The buck does stop with president biden. Even though i think that Trump left biden terrible situation undermined the afghan government and and made this catastrophe more likely. I don't think it was inevitable. And i think joe biden still made a big mistake in green to carry out this very flawed agreement that the trump administration reached with the taliban. I mean there's so many other issues where biden is rightly repudiated. If not the front runner for the republican nomination so he likes his position and it's clear that that the the reason he's pursuing the policies that you're talking about is because he's been in this positive feedback loop in the in the hermetically sealed universe of republican trump era politics. But i go back to your first question which is like. When does the clock run out on that. Like when does the death toll to be too high. When does do your friends. You're citing the trumpy floridian voters who you hear from in florida are are getting to the point where they're getting fed up with it where they're getting to the point where they're ready to say enough with these cheap theatrics we've we never saw that moment with donald trump it never came the moment where republicans finally said enough. They never said it. A lot of the country did for sure and a lot of swing. Voters did schwab. Joe biden's president but republican voters never did or the about to reach that point in florida. Let's get another must read in here. Max boot writes for the washington post in a piece entitled. Biden's centrist strategy makes sense. It can prevent trump's return and max writes in part quote. It is easy to describe. The republican lunge to the lunatic right but hard to know what to do about it. Biden is probably on the right path by trying to work with republicans worry can ducking culture wars and keeping his language mild centrism got him into the white house and can keep him there. There's nothing more dangerous for our democracy than trump comeback biden needs to stay popular enough to prevent that from happening but occasional pieces of bipartisan legislation. Should not blind us to the ugly reality of today's gop. Journalists love the fo balance of suggesting that both parties are catering to hardliners ideologues. But that's not really true. Only one party in the united states has gone to extremes that would be gene robinson. Dacoven party. I mean the republican party. You get my point. I get your point. That's absolutely right. And that's why it and matt matches thesis That that biden is best off in the country's best off if the stay centrists is You know i hope that's right But it is it because we don't have to legitimate competing parties right now. We don't have a center left party in a centre right party And between which there is a middle where you can meet and get stuff done Maybe infrastructure you know proved me wrong but but that's not what we have had In in the last few years certainly in the last couple of election cycles we've had this crazy situation where the republican party has lost. Its mind the democratic party has to has to fill the role of the entire political spectrum from joe mansion And and we somehow muddle through and so what is being centrist in this in this environment. I'm i'm not sure we know so far. It seems like whatever biden's doing is working pretty well and and now that it looks like he is going to get infrastructure through Somehow in the senate's gonna work on human infrastructure. It looks like maybe he's onto something. And maybe this panthers taking is the right one but we'll have to see. Our politics is not what it used to be. Just not like this infrastructure package. The bipartisan one. That's expected to go through the senate today. Pretty clearly in pretty easily with republicans support is not exactly what progressives wanted. Obviously they had a bigger wishlists. But my gosh it's still ton of money that is being appropriated out from the federal government led by president biden. But you're very plugged into this white house. You understand how he has managed the progressive wing of his party. And also trying to get elected as mac points out. He had to ignore some of the noise. Progressives during the during the election now as president how is he handling this balance of acknowledging what his party wants and the progressive side but also saying well we actually have to be pragmatic and some places if we want our legislation to get through. Yeah you know. Willie if max went back and looked at peace this morning that we just read an excerpt from he'd probably drop the word probably where he said in wrote probably on the right path. The presidency president biden is on the right path. And he's on the right path. I would submit because like a lot of people over the course of the last forty forty five years of joe biden's career in the senate and his career as vice president and now is president. People have a tendency. Some people have a tendency to underestimate him to underestimate his sense of awareness of where he is predator and where the united states senate is politically. He knows for certain that the republican party of twenty twenty one is not the republican party of nineteen eighty-one ninety one or even two thousand one. It's just not so he knows how to deal with those internal mechanical personal levers in the united states senate. I think he's underestimated. Because i think that he is made maybe ten times more phone calls to various representatives and senators in the house and the senate than anyone could imagine trying to pull this thing together to get us to the point where we are today where this massive bill will indeed pass become law and be a savior for many cities states and towns and increase employment as well but the underestimating of joe biden. You do that at your peril. He's a quiet conquering guy and he knows what he's doing and he knows what he wants and he loves what he's doing any loves connecting with people and he loves politics loves he was served in the senate For many many years so you could argue we can look behind back beyond trump. Even the obama years. I think joe biden makes an attempt to connect with both parties and with members of the house and the senate on he will far higher level than the past two former presidents. In the children's medical group for the hospitals also now has recommended that every person over to that goes to school is in a school whereas a mask. I think the biggest news however is what is going to come out today. If the information in my reporting is correct we're going to learn the data behind the cdc's recommendation to modify the mask where guidance the concern now in. It speaks to everything. Joe you just said emeka hugest said jonathan it speaks to the potential that vaccinated people with this delta variant have such a high viral load that they may transmit the virus to others. Also that's circulating this week in the scientific news. If that is in fact we know that the delta varian in vaccinated people creates a viral load equivalent to the viral load in unvaccinated. People who are infected. We're gonna learn soon if that also increases the transmission rate. Lucy mcbride let me ask you about the washington post report that they've gotten. Cdc has some information now about just how quickly this spreads. I think they compared it to chicken pox this that this delta variant is extraordinarily dangerous moves extraordinarily fast and is really bad. On his deathbed as he witnessed the country grappling with the question of voted as he saw the ugliness of trump is and the ascendant of of white supremacy after risking his life to try to transform the country. There's a sense in which is almost there these moments where you get the boulder almost up the hill which makes it feel like progress and then it seems that you have to start all over again and so part of what i wrote. Begin about why wrote begin again. How do we muster the energy to push the boulder up the hill again and it has something to do not only would just simply how far we've come because of course. My situation isn't the same as my father. Which isn't the same of his great grandfather's there's been progress. But what do we do with the ugliness of now. How do we respond to it. And you know. Joe i would say this to you as my good friend how you speak to the america that we want to bring into being. How do we not forget from whence we've come and how do we speak to the ugliness of now from your perspective and that that's the key it's not just in our hands just in my hands. It's in our hands. It's in our hands. And i'll tell you the way we do it as we speak about it. We talk about it like you. And i have been doing five years and we speak the truth and this is what drives me crazy and i know we have to go to break and i apologize. Alex this is what drives me crazy when i start hearing people talk about critical race theory. And it'd be really honest with you. I just zone out now because it seems on both sides. People are like there shoveling. If they're against it. All the garbage can shovel in and they call it critical race theory and then on the other side. It seems that people shovel and we're talking about definitions. This is really pretty. Damn simple really is it really. Is you have people on both sides. That are saying this is a true. This is only the truth. America is racist. america is irredeemable. america is doomed. That's on one side. And then on the other side you have people talking about seventeen seventy six and we are. There's american exceptionalism and we're the greatest country ever and the freest country ever and we have made extraordinary progress and blah blah on gene robinson. Pay on this show. It seems every day now. Because you know we're such mindful people to things can be true at one time. Sixteen nineteen cam exists with seventeen seventy six and an exceptional american country. And i believe in. American exceptionalism we fed and we freed more people than any country in the history of this planet. I can take pride in that and yet understand. The words of seventeen seventy six really didn't even begin to be realised until nineteen sixty four nineteen sixty five until after i was born. That's when we first started on this path that we're on right now but those truths vacant exist together and we can work together and try to make this country a better place still but they all do exist drove sixteen nineteen happened. Seventeen seventy six happen. Nineteen sixty four. Sixty five happened. Just teach american. It's free just teach the history and guess what guess what it's complicated and it's scratchy and it's not all it's not all beautiful and it's not all ugly it's it's sometimes really messy but it it happened. It's true. just teach that and that's that's where we need. That's warren he to to start and what we need to do. A stop denying that history. Any part of that history. It all happened. It's all true and it all makes us who we are what we are now And provides you know we need to know that in order to get to a better place is a complicated legacy. We've had complicated leaders. That wasn't going to pass. Joe manchin is negotiating with progressives try and leadership trying to to figure out how to get some votes on that one but even hr four having trouble getting to the threshold that it needs to pass. What is the latest on. Those two voting rights bills. And what does the white house believe. Their best chance is their best chances to actually pass legislation to push back on some of these more restrictive state laws joe and as we report this morning associated. Press and i've talked a lot of aids in recent days. There's real growing pessimism about getting any legislative solution don on the federal level here. They're not certainly not abandoning. Hope and i do think. Hr four seems to have a better shot nature one. It's a little a little more focused though. It's a little less sweeping there's a sense there. They can get some more moderate support but it is going to be a real uphill climb. Republicans seem steadfastly opposed to both. They're still real questions. And doubts this senator mansion and others whatever of course touch the filibuster. He has said repeatedly that he will not white house. Aides also strucks painted yesterday's media civil rights leader in a positive fashion but their focuses more than just the legislation. There really playing up the idea. There's going to be legal. Challenge department of justice is wayne here. They're urging democrats to sort of combat these efforts to restrict voting access by registering more voters. Making sure that things are are working on the voter rolls they can. In fact turn out and vote. Next year point success they had last year during a pandemic in getting people out but they recognize. Of course that's a harder challenge in a midterm election when it's not a presidential year and we finally are going to be hearing for president by did appears on this subject white house. Aides have been teasing for weeks now that he would deliver some sort of major address on the subject. That you've really used the bully. Pulpit advocates have asked. It looks like that could happen as early as next week. Perhaps as soon as tuesday. We'll finally hear from them at great length about the need to protect the belt. All right jonathan. Thank you so much coming from either. Going to get to fifty votes and joe mansion and cureton cinema are going to make an exception for voting rights. The same way that mitch mcconnell and before him harry reid made exceptions for judges or they're not going to pass this legislation and so it's good to have these meetings it's good to talk the aspirational about passing certain pieces of legislation but at some point the rubber meets the road. And you've got to actually add. Add the votes up to fifty and whatever it takes to do that. That's what they need to do. It's just not happening right now. It's also not an option to do nothing. It's not at this point right. So so they they have to figure out how to how to get to fifty and and and get make an exception of filibuster exception for voting rights the same way that republicans and democrats through the years of made an exception for federal judges. More decision is very good on very successfully for hours. But is it enough. The taliban are making rapid advances. The us trained. Afghan army is crumbling. Losing four surrendering a third of its post in the last few weeks. So now it's mainly up to the commandos a small but motivated fighting force to stop the taliban from taking over richard engel. Nbc news logar province. Afghanistan rela lease We need to get used to saying these sort of stories of course crab earlier last year. The kurds complaining. The us abandoned them in the field of reports that we left wagner air force base in the middle of the night and didn't even notify the afghans the biden administration needs to be prepared to see reports like this for months and months. It's only gonna get worse. Isn't it. joe. It's just not going to be a pretty withdrawal playing withdrawal anything that remotely looks like victory and even if we'd stayed another twenty years it's not like necessarily would have been that much better but i do think that we can do better by our afghan allies by at least letting them know. We're abandoning a huge massive air base and community that at one time when i was there was about eighty thousand people. Living barbara airfield airbase. It just is kind of mind-blowing that we crept out in the dead of the night. Now just there in logar province where richard was embedded. That's never been exactly a very safe place. And there wasn't even that great of security even back in the late two thousands twenty ten twenty eleven so on You just really that. It seems like that. Wow we have to do our best though to do to get visas for all the afghans who worked with us for so many years at such great sacrifice personal security risks we cannot keep them in limbo. We need to keep our promises as they are allies. Who help keep so. Many americans alive over so many years of war as they struggle now and need to get out of the country. So sam stein. Joe biden made no mistake of that he wanted to get. Us troops out of afghanistan. You could go back and see his. His response is famous meeting with karzai. Vice president where he was enraged by the situation in afghanistan even twelve years ago. That said there will be an awful lot of second guessing about this withdrawal from republicans of course but also even some democrats. Yeah i mean. The politics of afghanistan have obviously shifted over the past decade. I would say there's a weird commonality. I suppose between joe biden and donald trump here. Both were tired of us. Military presence in afghanistan. Both wanted to get out. Trump like presidents before him was persuaded to keep a footprint in the country. Biden has decided not going to do it. So what does that mean domestically at home. I think it's tricky. I think there's going to be a component of the us political class. That says this is a mismanaged withdrawal. Certainly it's going to not play very well. We see when you see these scenes on the news But there might be. In fact a coalition of an odd coalition i would say of democrats and republicans who say look. We've been there for twenty years if the afghan security forces can't stand up on their own by now. Why would we think another two five. Ten years will help them do the job at some point. You do have to cut your losses. So i we were talking about the center. Newsroom yesterday during editorial meetings how does this. How does this play politically for biden at home. And i don't think there are clear cut answers. I think there's a component of the public and party. That may have attacked him a decade ago but now feels like he does that. This war has gone on long enough. And then it's time to pull back. You know it's interesting. You can look a lease a barack obama's decision to get out of iraq. Most americans supported that decision. Most americans support joe biden's decision to get out of afghanistan even though i think many in the foreign policy community Think we should at least keep a presence there but just because the president does something that the majority of americans support in opole. One day doesn't mean they're insulated from political pushback down the road. You look at what the quick departure from isis quick departure from iraq many believe led to the growth of isis in that region. And of course. Whatever happens in afghanistan now if al qaeda re-emerges or other islamic terrorist groups reemerged that attack the united states that will be on this president now even though donald trump in words at least supported the same policy. It's just not gonna make any heavy predictions here just because there are still so many unknowns going forward in the days to come i am not as you know. I don't really necessarily see the outcry their reconstituting type situation in afghanistan. The cost of what we have to do to stay there being greater than if we draw back and if we just have an outside presence that we can use aerial assets to to monitor in to help mitigate threats. I am most concerned about the moral cost of leaving and again our allies on the ground that we made promises to that if they supported us if they risked their lives if they supported this experiment in democracy in afghanistan at great peril to their families and themselves that we would help get them out of the country when the time came around and now just watching the bureaucratic crisis in terminal as so many afghan to mate. Visas are struggling to leave that to me is the real moral stain of what's happening right now. And mika this article from the military times. I'll just read a lead. This is from april of this year. Nearly three quarters of veterans survey almost seventy percent of troops family members support of full withdrawal of us forces from afghanistan. So i think the majority of americans support this as do the majority of military families and veterans coming up to corona virus pandemic has impacted most businesses. Some more than others. We're going to take a look at how minority owned businesses were disproportionately affected and the new effort to fix that. Plus new york city will hold a ticker tape parade today to honor frontline workers but at least one group is boycotting the event. We'll tell you which one morning joe is coming right back.

Mundell was ahead of him and matchups for the coming year right as as the primary season was starting to heat up so much can change in a year but right now the economy's does seem to be going in the right direction for joe biden. It is one greek question about this example that unites about is reagan could build to a victory of forty nine states. Talk buddy forty. Nine states residents will victory. Now it's as if we're talking about through modeling right. I mean it's just it's so remote. It's it's genuinely mathematically impossible No maybe not that bad. But it's culturally possible. And i think one of the things that throws back to is about the structural partisanship of the era of how many people in in our politics is going to turn on this question of the next five to ten years. Last time are are you as a as a participant in the american process. Are you willing to actually change your mind based on changing circumstance. Which by the way is what we were supposed to do. Then the same people that elected reagan twice elected bill clinton twice those reagan. Democrats came home and helped elect reagan bill clinton twice then helped elect george w bush twice then helped elect barack obama twice. And by the way. Brian bob wasn't like he. He went in the squeaker. I think he's the first democrat to win with over a majority of votes two times since fdr the guy was rolling up tallies fifty three percent. There were massive shifts. These last two elections so people have seemed to have their political feet stuck in cement. Not a lot of crossover voters. Yeah i mean. I think joe meacham brings up a really smart point. Which is is this actually going to be what makes some you know. Republicans who have been you know. Maybe some who actually supported the insurrection. Or sam who have been with trump twice but it with them try twice. Is this going to actually swing them back our direction because not only is the economy. Good joe is you know. We've we've heard that from extremists in the senate extremists in the house. And there's very little pushback from leadership joe. These images are both hard to watch and essential to watch to truly understand what happened that day. And there's certainly has been such a consistent effort from many not all but many republicans to whitewash. What happened that day to turn the page with nor to downplay and of course you see this footage and that becomes impossible. It's so important to the times. We still don't know which republicans will be on that and they recognize how damaging. What a dark day. This was for this nation's democracy and they don't want lose sight of it as much as they still do want to work with the republicans and some of the republicans have have been willing to accept that olive branch but yes they also are dealing with leadership and a number of the rank and file. Who don't want to come to grips with that day. Who are still perpetuating the big election lie. Donald trump's being election that fueled that day so that is something that is a defining moment that will cover shadow this administration the by administration throughout its term in office. How do you do both how you work with republicans when so many of them don't even believe you should be president and that's it right there and here's another sign that this will become this stain on our history will be part of the election election process. That's what we see across the globe in illiberal not even democracies but gene robinson that we have now according to this report one out of three republicans who are seeking office so for our post democracy candidates who are illiberal sue will not recognize the last selection because they don't like who won that last election here we are and we have members of congress who refused to come out and say that joe biden president of the united states that he won legitimately and we have of course talk show hosts on the trump right. Who do the same thing. But this is an anti democracy movement and we're now seeing that actually people are running for office hoping they'll get elected by running against free elections by running against democracy right and these anti-democracy democracy candidates believe they're speaking to anti-democracy constituents they believe. That's what their party's base wants and it and it raises the question. So how how do you do politics as we know it. How do you do elections. We know them when one of our two major parties is is believed totally believes the big lie. And it's not just cynical leadership and cynical elected officials but there is a ready and willing audience and base for the lie..
