The Latest: Kershaw, Dodgers take Game 1 over Rays

"Vast fox sports radio networking glad you have chosen to spend A couple minutes with us and there is no debate. There is no debate where we begin this night, a radio the fall classic surfing the Blue Wave Cowabunga Dod's the Fall Classic, starting in a neutral site. Kind of on Tuesday night with Joe Buck every night, you get ajob of game and John Smalls calling the game on Fox. Did you watch? Maybe not will see that I don't imagine the ratings will be very good for this Thegame was lopsided in there's one team that has a fan base and another one that doesn't a national fan base for the Dodgers. Put on a pyrotechnics show. It was like the Fourth of July. Boom Bang Bam! The Dodger offense When Cody Bellenger Mookie Betts hit homeruns Clayton Kershaw mowing down Tampa haters like it was an April started Dodger Stadium on by the time The damage he'd done. Ella ended up spit roasting the raise 8 to 3 and Game one of the 2020 World Series for the Dodgers Get a leg up on the best of seven series now three wings away. From their first championship as a franchise since 1988 When Ronald Reagan was the president, Tommy Lasorda was waddling in the dugout and Kurt Gibson got wanted bat and hit a home run and is at all time legend because of that, as a Dodger, So let us discuss the question. What are your big takeaways? From Game one of the World Series, a domination situation for the Dodgers. So I've got the white whale hand grenades and Smurfs and we will tie all these things together. Now we talk about the World Series. Game one. You start with us. Accounts on Lee is just one game. It doesn't matter that much in the big picture. It's only one game. However. I'm going to disagree with that statement because the feeling that one gets watching Game one of the World Series from the Dodgers side of things. It's like hitting a two team parlay. It doesn't seem like a one win situation. Night, so don't undersell the importance of a game one win for Los Angeles and I'll tell you why. Because the Dodgers winning a Clayton Kershaw playoffs start As easy as a B C. 123. Is not something that happens very often, right. You feel like you dodged a bullet when you win a Kershaw game in the playoffs in a big play off game, Kershaw has been the dog with fleas in the postseason. And while many of my colleagues on television like to downplay Clayton Kershaw's missteps on radio, we don't do that We don't his World Series resume coming in. I would have him in the bread line. If that was his resume. What into an E? R. A of over five he had pitched in 26 2 3rd innings given up 16 earned runs. Over four starts in five games. But on this night, it reminded and voice in my head. It was Dick Stockton, who told me years ago stats tell you what has happened. They don't tell you what's going to happen. And that was a vintage regular season type of Kershaw performance. And you see that in a big play off game as often as you see a white whale swimming around the ocean, right? Clayton Kershaw got 38 swings. 19. Mrs. He had a whiff rate of 50%. Now the stat geeks tell us that that is the highest Of Clayton Kershaw's career, whether it be the postseason or the regular season that half the time it was S O matter, Miss. That is what's known as flexing your muscles, and it wasn't just Kershaw. Cody Bellenger, Mookie Betts. Max Muncy all had big days. The conga line kept moving. You keep pressure on your opponent 10 hits, they got seven walks. The Dodgers drew seven walks and, more importantly than that. They actually hit when they had runners in scoring position. They batted 3 57 on this day with runners in scoring position. They were five out of 14 follow the ways and is a key. You follow the wisdom often, American legend Will Rogers You never get a second chance to make a first impression. The Dodgers they made their first impression. Now you've got to back that up. You have backed that up in Game two in Game three, but you only played one game and the Dodgers the more talented team they didn't play down to their competition. They played like they were the superior opponent in this matchup. We certainly hope that continues were slightly biased on this now. Part B. If you would like to knit pick That's one of these. We get paid to do hear on the radio. Always to pick apart things in micro analyze. Dave Roberts fell back into some old analytical principles. We were hoping that his gut feeling managerial move. The other night would continue. It did not in this game, managing Clayton Kershaw. For Dave Roberts is like juggling hand grenades. One wrong move one wrong move and your head gets blown off. And I understand partially what Roberts is thinking. Because when I'm watching Clayton Kershaw, I'm thinking, OK, Here's where it all falls apart goes to hell right here, right. This is going to be the inning. It all goes to crap. In a playoff situation. But on this night Kershaw he was dealing He'd only thrown 78 pitches. Through six innings. And ah, very effective there. The Rays hitters were completely flummoxed against Kershaw as we gave you some of the numbers there of 50% with weight, and despite the Dodgers having a huge advantage there up eight tow one. They, Roberts Arbitrarily said. That's it. We're going to take you out of the game. I'd rather take you out of half inning. Too early, then a half inning too late. So that brought in Dillon Florio, who wasn't good and then and then Roberts panic because the Rays attempted the pin shit G may enjoy And so Roberts ran out of the dog and I got to make a change. I

"In sports. Fox Sports Center Joe Buck on Fox's News Sunday says that this start of the NFL season is going to be unlike any before it. Ah, whole lot quieter. You've got a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team when Tom Brady making his Buccaneers debut on the road in New Orleans. Which is one of the toughest places to play. I mean, it gets crazy down there and for offense, trying to figure it out. If you can't hear that, that's a big factor. So I think there's a competitive Disadvantage if you will for the Saints because they don't have that the looking Zehr given it to the Bucks by

Off The lightning round. So does Yankee Stadium have the best. Broadcast Booth Buffet. Now. In fact when I show up in the postseason, they don't have really anything who who has the best I want the best for both football and baseball. This is a passion of mine to think not about the intricacies of what Joe Buck does day to day and like how coolest job is, what do you think joe buck gets to eat for free when he shows up to the State A fat kid. So the former Bush stadium had some of the best burgers that you've ever. Experienced in your life chocolate milk hot dogs all that but that's gone. So, everything. So we. But I'm blaming. "So I've just had a lot more fun and has having taken seriously. Yeah for me. I don't know that that ever changes because I'm. In a position where half the crowd is going to be mad at the Messenger that told them, their team lost a world series or whatever that just comes with the job. So it's either I think at some point you realize you either laugh at all and realized that in a weird way, it's almost not personal because they don't even know me they have no idea what I'm about they really don't know my family I don't know what I do in my off time that. The kind of person I try to be. So it's almost not even personal. It's like a thing. And if you if you put it in that category, it doesn't hurt as much but I think for me it's always going to bother me. I can't act like it doesn't bother me and it's one of the things that when I came out of two thousand eleven and that whole vocal thing I thought. I've got the best job in the world I've always known that but I'm going to show it and I'm just going to do what I do and if people like me great if they don't. Okay I I'm I'm wired to make try to make everybody love me, and that is never going to be the case. So writing the book going on Stern going on this going on with you. On pardon my take. Those are all ways me doing a podcast with Oliver, Hudson called Daddy issues and talking about my own insecurities is a way to give people more information, and if after all that, they still don't like me I can't it doesn't matter. It's either that or don't do the job and I love what I do too much to to not do it. Yeah, yeah. It's good answer. I also wonder has there ever been a time where a player has said has been mad at you for something you said in a booth and Alex same to you have you ever got mad I'm sure journalists aside but like a broadcast or have you ever been k. man I listened to that. Fair what you just did. Yeah I mean, that's love you play for twenty five years and that's going to happen here and there but. You look what? One of the most celebrated Hala fame announcer who happens to be one of the most critical but I think fair is Tim Carver and Timmy, and I've had a wonderful relationship and is it he's a dear friend. And when he will come to New York I would come over and give them a hug and regardless of what he said during the game I felt that was on me I ultimate king control would joe and Tim said as long as they said, and it wasn't personal and they weren't talking about something that's under the belt which ninety nine point nine wasn't from anybody I mean. Announces are a bit like Umpires. You only notice them when they fuck up in that part I now appreciate much better being a broadcaster and dry my ass off just to be. Okay. So that's my answer. Yeah. I I don't feel like I'm ever unfair but I know that we're doing again. I've talked to Alex I've been doing this since I was a kid I know that when we're up there doing a game, they're players in the lion, the clubhouse going shut the fuck this fucking guy now or whatever. But I've never really I don't really feel like I go into any areas where anybody would be ever really offended and I. I just I don't go there I, remember when my dad. In essence he and I drove to spring training the year, I was going to be in Louisville. When I was nineteen I'd left college and I was we're GONNA we're driving in a car together down to spring training and he said you know you're GonNa Start Aaa this year you need to realize a couple of things. One nobody cares if the announcers hot or tired or whatever just do your job and shut up don't complain and to. Try to play this game poorly in high school tried to play college. Realize that unless you think you could make that play ten times out of ten they're down they're trying to make the they're not trying not to make a good play. So treat it as such and I I've I don't feel like I've ever really been critical. That's not my style. I don't know that anybody would ever go that guy he's. He's an unfair asshole. He doesn't realize how hard it is. I I feel like I do. Your question Alex Sorry I'm GonNa let you go and then I have my my lightning Ron Ron for. Joe bests. Homerun hitter that you've ever seen. I'd probably Barry Bonds I mean I bonds had to pick out basically one pitch a game, and he rarely missed it because they always just pitched around him. So Berry. Okay. Did you now wear is era on their what number down we gotta go no no I've said this publicly and know Steve Horne the guy that works with me will tell you. If you put everything into consideration. Especially the defensive position and how great of a shortstop he was then guided to hit well over six hundred home runs three thousand hits I mean he's one of the greatest players in the history of Major League Baseball. I didn't see a ton of his home runs because I didn't do a lot of mariners games and I didn't do really any Texas Games when he was there. So I tend to go to the guys I saw more but my God, the other guy on of the three of us one of us is is one of the greatest players in the history of baseball the the other two that the as podcast. Great podcasters. Yeah. But I mean it's pure home. Box Son and Jack Buck Son. There's a great podcast her. Side of dumpy, and then there's a Jack Luxton. That's those are the other two guys. Want he wanted me to say four, three one I'd ever saw ruth I didn't see much I didn't see much of Hank Aaron I didn't watch Willie mays although he was my dad's favorite player I mean he's top ten is that good enough? Okay. All right top ten somewhere in there I'll give you top five a-rod. So thank you in deal. Era Before you get the rapid fire questions are it's sponsored by Lincoln Lincoln Dot com slash the.

"Let's get back to Joe Puck. Joe. I know what it is to be caught with between Fox network and ESPN. You're married to an NFL quarter superstar and Michelle. What's interesting is your birthday is on April twenty fifth and your son on April twenty-sixth six. Did you guys actually planned that? Yeah well, I guess. Kinda. Because she was induced so we could have done the same day, but my ego and narcissism won't allow that to happen. So we picked the next day. And by the way I just wanted to announce the world that my wife Michelle buys. NER Buck has hair plugs to. Go. Okay Breaking News. I'm just kidding she doesn't. Well it's runs the addiction runs in the family he probably the only way it's contagious. Yeah. It's like it's like dating someone who has like motorcycles and tattoos all of a sudden become that person, right? Yeah. Are you start to look like your dog and your case your dog starts to look like you gave my dog a compliment. So I'll take that. You said my is beautiful. So thank you for calling me beautiful. Yes. If there's one word I would use to describe you beautiful I don't know whatever although I feel like you down play. Downplay. Kind of the look you try to look dumpy and let me tell you you succeed. It's such a nice thing. You're the best. You're so nice try to look try to look dumpy and you nail it. Nobody nobody does dumpy like big cat. Oh, man Um. All right. So to tie you guys together I, I saw story that Joe you want Scott A. Rod hurt. I wish I. I, will find the I haven't framed. So. Yeah. I I. Was it was a Yankees Red Sox game. I. Don't know what you're I think it's right about the same time talking about like two thousand. Ten eleven twelve somewhere there. So I'm walking out and with my my sister son walking out walking along in front of the dugout and Alex Fielding Ground Balls at third base from somebody hitting fungus atom I. Don't know who it was Lance Berkman was in the cage remember this like it was this morning and Alex Turns Goes Hey Joe and I'm like, Hey, I mean now I've grown up around batting practice I was around my tireless with my dad. I, know that you don't mess with anybody. During batting practice I don't really mess with anybody anyway and I'm like yeah yeah, Hey Alex and keep walking and then alice goes hey, joe is that year and I think he was going to say is that your son but he didn't get to the sun part he went hey, joe is that your wok and he got smoked right in the Shin or like right above the knee and the next thing I know alex is hobbling one leg out into the shallow center. And my my nephew's got kind of this kind of raspy voice turns to be this huge baseball fan he's like. That's not good and I was like Holy Shit. I just got Alex Rodriguez killed all I did was walk on the field and so then it became like a thing like somebody see what happened. And I was just kind of keeping my head down and infielder his name was Bill Hall east to play for the Red Sox is that his name Billy Billy Hall he's like Man I think he was I think Alex was talking to that Fox guy, what's his name and then all of a sudden the media scrum came over to me. I'm doing an impromptu press conference about how I bothered Alex during batting practice really Alex bothering me and then I go up to the broadcast booth to I'm like white as a sheet. And I find Cashman Mike Look I said Brian I don't know what Alex is status is they took him out of the lineup I said I have no idea. I didn't do anything I walked on the field. That's he's like don't worry about it. Don't where he was unbelievable about it, and then the next day the New York Daily News on the back it's the headline was what the buck and it was Alex grabbing his leg and then my little picture in it and it said Fox broadcaster Joe Block says Hide Alex Rodriguez whatever the hell it said and I have it framed it's in my basement right now. Amazing. So can't the inside on that was Ever every. So often when job will come into town, we'll go grab dinner, go grab a drink or something, and that may have been one of the nights that we were gonNA go grab some food after the game and as I'm catching balls at third base, he comes out of a third base. Entry, there with media comes in and literally he's not even look I hey, Joe, what's up as I got smoked so hard on Grandpa ride on top of my angle looked like a shot I thought it broke your leg I thought because of my presence Yankee fans already think I don't like the Yankees now I've got Alex Rodriguez Third Baseman for a red SOx game at least maybe the rest of the year is out because I picked that second to walk out on the field I mean you can't you can't make it up Unbelievable. Yeah, it was great. Really. Loved it. Fun. That's got sewing Zaidi inducing. Yeah the other thing that I think. You guys have in common and ties. You is that you both have had wildly successful careers where you have kind of gone from moments of people not liking you. To a redemption of Hey, we liked this guy how an in out you can maybe start and then we'll go to joe but navigating that change and trying to figure out how to properly you know block out the negative criticism and that actually filters through because I think a lot of times people say you can't listen haters but everyone does how has that affected your career? Y- me for a while not good because I didn't know how to handle it and the harder that I tried the worship God and I just did not understand the game for lack of a better term. I didn't understand that introducing levity into my life would actually make a better and by beating reporters and those critics to the punch then ultimately beat them to it right so i. Think. Posts my suspension I just came back a different person I felt like I hit rock bottom and at this moment I'm playing with house money go out. Have Fun. If people are going to hate me, some will anyways might as well be my true self and not someone that I'm trying to be and that never works..

"Thinking Most broadcast like your dad would go out for beer after a game, you would go to the fucking hair plug place and be like me up like. I. Shakes. Hair plugs and if I'm addicted to it only done at eight only it's a lot and never done it since but yeah, eight times. Addicted to something and you only do it eight times. Congratulations I. Didn't know you quit hair plugs cold Turkey I did I, I had to. Carry around. Yeah. I should I should how narcissistic would I be a to get them be to carry on a chip kick some crazy habit I hated every second of it. Oh Man I. Love It. So something triggered in my brain when you were talking about your voice over crowd have you had the moment yet where you've thought I might be calling NFL games no crowds, and what do you think that's going to do you're probably going to have to carry a lot more of the broadcast and you know Fill. In the space that usually is used for the crowd and letting the ambiance do the talking here's here's my dogs. Yeah. Nice Stella Bite Second Stella Right in the neck beautiful dom is beautiful dog. Poor thing I. As as I, think about that a bit unnerving, I do believe that if games are take place without fans in the stands. For the viewing experience at home whatever networks carrying whatever hawk? It's right into the Stanley Cup playoffs. If it's NBA, it's major league baseball NFL the television network in my opinion is GonNa have to put some sort of crowd noise underneath and people all the traditional also go crazy. We'll. We'll never been in this position before, and so you have to make the viewing experience as good as it can be I've I've even heard that they've talked about putting virtual fans in the stands. I think making that experience as normal as possible. Has To happen now you have to have somebody there that gets it and has a good feel for when a crowd and how a crowd would react how big the reaction should be if the home team blow something or bad call what the crowd would do. You know. Probably Boo. I think it's got to be a really smart person sitting in that seat doing it but to me, it's it's absolutely got to happen. I agree I agree with you there it's just GonNa be interesting to see because you I'm sure you will feel the pressure a lot more in those moments when you can't and I think you do it better than any other broadcaster leading the crowd speak for the moment is almost the best thing that can happen on a broadcast because you were there. So having that not exist it's going to be it's going to be very, very eerie. It's and it to me. Use signify the importance of the moment and in some ways the event by how crazy the crowd gets. Now it's not always that way because it's not always the home team that's that's making the big moment but there's noise and there's you know even if there's Silence after a lot of noise that speaks volumes too so Yeah, I think it's vitally important to have that because it just gives the event importance on somebody's television. Where to get back to more Joe Buck in a second but I, I wanNA talk to you guys about owning a home. Just I had an extra day to kind of sleep on it by the time I got to the park I was pretty relaxed, and then you start doing it and like anything else once the game. Starts you just go do what you know how to do and you get through it but I was I was nervous I was frightened of being exposed on a big stage. Have you ever done a top four Mount Rushmore a baseball series that you called I'd be interested in to to know maybe the most memorable maybe not the best like from a Fan's perspective but the most memorable for you personally. Why I think that, would you know I know my rushmore? They're all pretty evenly spread out but I it's hard to replace or. Usurp to give you the word that came to mind for some odd reason, your first time doing it on a national stage. Ninety six for me and there's a lot of things going on Joe Torre. Was the manager there I had grown up around him. He was friends with my dad when I was a little kid. He was playing poker in our basement with my dad and now he's a manager of the Yankees and there he is and they're winning my dad's alive. I'm calling him after the last minute of the broadcast after game six and I'm talking to. Him on the phone about it, and it was kind of like the passing the torch Greek picture because my daughter, my oldest child Natalie was born in ninety six and there's a picture of my dad holding my newborn daughter on his chest watching TV and it's macarbre May. Our faces on TV. So it was like three generations and he's just watching an Amman which was nuts because I spent my whole life watching him do all this stuff so. Just. Personally speaking, there's nothing like that. Oh four with the Red Sox was unbelievable two, thousand sixteen with the cubs for the historic nature of it and everything that happened in this country since they had last won in one, thousand, nine, hundred eight and then I think two thousand eleven for me those are the four. Two Thousand Eleven, the cardinals winning not just Becau- yes Saint Louis and all that. But because I had gone through a paralyze vocal cord that year I thought my career was over I'd been through every kind of therapy. It finally started to come back and David freeze hit that home run in game six to force game seven and my voice was Kinda back to normal and it was kind of the end of the most trying year my life divorce and everything else that was going on. Those are the four that I think stand out to me. That's solid. That's a solid four and I have to ask, Alex I, know that. The ties you guys together the Oh four series. Joe When you're calling that series at what point did you feel like things changed because that's never happened before team coming back down three Oh. At what point were you like Ooh this feels different than maybe some of the other series you've called where team goes up three Oh and gives up one game and then they sweep you know they finish them off for one. It felt different right after the last pitch of game seven. Before that you were just waiting and I think you know I've talked to Bill Simmons about I've talked to a lot of red. SOx. Fans you know with the history you just kept waiting and and I think history by the way. Is the great eraser of a lot of. Anxiety for that Red Sox team when Kevin Millar says Oh you know it just took one just took one game and then you get another those guys they were defeated these the Yankees pounded them in game three at Fenway Park and it just looked like a runaway and it was almost like this things over but let's just see and they were what within a hand swipe of a tag on Dave Roberts stolen base of being swept four games to nothing and instead they ended up winning that game game four and then winning the next three so I think any red sox fan or anybody covering it was going this series is so no know where. Is were sitting there at Yankee Stadium for game seven that anything could have happened. So did it switch share, but the momentum was all over the place and it was just hard to get a finger on it although game seven was a bit of a blow out from what I remember. At Yankee stadium in favor of the red. SOx. Joe. You talked about your vocal challenges Mike Okay had something similar. At, what point do you take yourself visualizing the future? Without I mean, you've had such a stellar career for so long NFL PGA World Series. Super. Bowls. What is Joe? Buck? Did you allow yourself to go to a place of like what do I do in my life? I was a mess. Neurotic every. Every time I open my mouth, which meant that I stopped really opened my mouth and talking to anybody. I became. Really. Unwilling to make phone calls didn't talk to any of my friends. It was hard to order coffee at starbucks. It was I was talking like this and he couldn't get loud sound like Dr Fao g now I sounded like it was over I sound like it was dying and inside I kind of was because I was always you know I never had thought about my voice i. was always worried about what I was going to say, not how I was going to say something and when the shifted from I don't even care what I'm going to say how the hell am I gonNa make a loud enough sound that over this crowd and a big moment when you can't keep air in your in your lungs because it's just escaping because one vocal cords paralyzed. It's it just shakes you to your core. So I every day I thought this is it and it took family friends, Steve Horne, who you know who I work with I can't tell you how many times I turned to them after doing the on camera at the beginning, I wouldn't steve this is. What we can say on this podcast this F, and over this I'm done I'm telling you right now I am done and none no, you sound fine. You got more than just your voice you got things to say and he takes people in your circle to keep going and then eventually it started to come back. And it was okay by the end of that world series but man it was. It was unlike anything I had been through before and unlike anything I've been through since I'm glad I went through it I think I have more of an appreciation for for what I do for a living, but it sucked. Yeah you're also probably glad you went through because the hair plugs, right? Yeah. I mean like. This. luscious. Main at what point are you? Okay to joke about that by the the way the hair plugs. or You not am I am I still early on that? Oh? No no no I mean that's why I wrote a book. I mean I think the best thing I ever did. was. Open up about all that, and then the funny thing is, as you know, Alex knows and when you come out with your memoir. When they're promoting it take the most crazy sentence that has no context in it. Whatsoever some joke joke joke joke joke about hair plug hair plug hair plug, and then it's like I guess you could say I became addicted to hair plugs, which was a joke because I'm talking about how painful the most painful thing of all time and that's the quote that gets shot around the Internet and I'm people go. You're an asshole you're addicted addicted hair plugs like people who are addicted to real things like. I'm no I'm not. You'd be insane to be addicted to the most painful thing. You could ever go through. You have to imagine that like, of course, the Internet's going run with it. I remember seeing the quote. Joe Buckle. Must losers voice because he was addicted to hair plugs and I'm thinking Most broadcast like your dad would go out for beer after a game, you would go to the fucking hair plug place and be like me up like..

"On your hair. Yeah it's gone. It's gone the other day I I just shaved it off. We had clippers that We were clipping one of my two sons hair it was just it just looked. Way To mullet ish and I said why not I got nothing to be on TV for I got this podcast what do I care what I look like in front of big. Cat. and. So I just shaved it off and screw it. I'm married I'm happy we've got kids were done with all that I'm not trying to impress anybody what's just knock it off. Go tell us what you know in the mid of covid nineteen and these very challenging times. What is it day like look for Mr Job? Well. Let me just tell you. Monday looks a lot like Tuesday looks a lot like Wednesday, looks a lot like whatever I get up at six o'clock. Which I've never had to do, I don't think ever in my life until these two boys came into the world and now they just refuse to let Michelle and me sleep. So six o'clock. And then just kill time now at least the weather's better in Saint Louis. So I can go outside with them. We can play on the swings learning how to kind of ride bikes where they do it with their feet and kind of walk alongside it. But it's all about getting to different benchmarks in the day. It's wake up until lunch, which happens at noon NAP is at twelve thirty. They wake back up at let's say two sometimes one thirty, sometimes five minutes after I put them down and then it's just killing time until they go to bed after a bath at about six. Seven. So what you wanted to know otherwise I'd do podcast I do everybody frigging podcast I asked people, and then I have to go back and pay back. Payback's a bitch. Yeah. You just described my day except I'm still in to NAP zone. So I have that luxury still to naps, but it's like I say all the time it's just we're running out the clock. We're we're. We're we're running the ball on third and long to keep keep the clock moving at all times. Any idea of limiting screen time I get it. You know they shouldn't be television dependent. Got It. They should be all be baby geniuses and that's dumbing down. But I'm here to tell you if they will sit there and watch something I'll leave it on all day I, don't care. The I. Just it just dawned on me and I'm curious. This is their away. Are you worried at all that you are going to get out of practice because this is a pretty long stretch that you're going to do nothing I, know out usually the spring is your lighter season but is there any worry that like how do I stay sharp keep my mind sharp. None none. So there's no practicing. You're not narrating yourself in the morning nothing no, I do that. But that's not in the category practice. I mean, that's I mean that doesn't have anything to do with twenty twenty that that's every day of my life. So how long can this go on for before? You're like you know what maybe I need to just. Do a simulated game, whatever it may be to keep yourself sharp and in game shape well, I just turned fifty one it would have to last until I'm eighty. I'm not saying it's easy but I've I've either been two seats to the right of my dad or sitting behind a microphone since I was I was doing minor league baseball at nineteen. There's pretty much I could fake my way through anything. I'm not saying you know I would have all the details and everything, but I could call I mean which was I guess the point of me calling all these videos of people sent me on twitter. that it doesn't matter what the. Intensity is of the competition. I can just put my eyes in mind to it and whatever comes out comes out. Yeah let me back up cat here because I'm really intrigued with this. Nineteen eighty, nine you with. AAA With The redbirds in Louisville Ninety, four, you the youngest announcer ever to do an NFL game on the NFL network and then in one thousand, nine, hundred, sixty to your first world series how old are you in ninety six and how nervous are you because it was a big one in New York twenty seven? Yeah it was huge because it was the Yankees returned to greatness. I think you know for people of a certain age they just assume the Yankees have been great since day one. Of the American League and that there have been peaks and valleys and that had there had been a large chunk time there. Ninety five they were they got ninety five ended. In I guess ninety four, they were decent but there was no postseason ninety, five you and the Seattle Mariners eliminated him it was at a one Gamer five games. Games when Griff when Edgar hit the double of Jack Mcdowell and Griffey rounded third like a thoroughbred and slid at home and we walked off right. So okay. So I mean in the mariners were great obviously back then too. But but this was ninety six was the first year I was twenty seven Jeeter was a rookie who knew how great Rivera was going to be wasn't even the closer John Wetteland. was and it was kind of rebirth of of the Yankees and your I was scared out of my mind game one was rained out and I remember sitting there and I procrastinated so long getting ready for the actual game of getting my notes down and the lineup seeing and all the numbers I wanted that at the end I was like, Oh my God, we get like half an hour here and I'm I'm nowhere near finished and the is the rain wouldn't stop and they called it and we got to pick back up the next day was game one and that kind of calmed me down I..

So Joe Bach it I think is actually the I guess we've had where we're both friends with them and it shows when you have someone like that is familiar with both of us always a great interview. We did this interview somewhere in the middle of quarantine I wanNA say it was around April. So gives you a little setting for for when we taped it but I to me Joe Buck and the like career are keys had is fascinating because like you said, a lot of people have given him shit. A lot of people have hated on him, but it feels like. The public conscience has kind of turned and turned back in his favor and people love Joe Buchan again, we so talented I mean they save you hang around long enough people start forgetting the bad energy in the hate and he's kind of getting into his territories like Oh shit is not about Jack Buck Right Joe Buck is a legend and he's done. About Twenty five world series he's done a bunch of Super Bowls PGA you name it and again he has that great voice and here's the greatest compliment I can say about Joe. Buck. Is Even if the game is average, I was still tune into listen to his insight yes and have you talking to Joe Buck? Have you had that moment where you realize? "Didn't get it, but they had every reason to be upset and kissed that. I was walking into their house because what I represented and it was really nothing more than that. It was almost like a a I. Don't Know How dad handle this, but I know that I handled my own situation a lot better than he did, and and I understand now why I got those looks because it's just an awful. Situation for those six kids go fuck just happened in my life. My Dad's gone now got a new young wife. Got A kid, and that also coincided. That'll shut up. Imagine how they feel about you now. Though because you're so successful, make all this money in your face. It's it's gotten. It's gotten better, but I'm not close to them I. My dad died note to really talk to relate any of six, except for one may be a couple of times and I, my sister and I always yearned spray relationship at least brothers and sisters that we never add, and I understand it now. Better is is my point in all that, but yeah I I can't go into all that on a daily basis, because like you said people know my dad, and in the town I live in. He walks on water, and his revered has got his face on the outfield wall. To them outside which stadium I'm not gonNA. Take Swipes, and he doesn't deserve for me. But it's got. It's got to feel like you gotTA. Not Not Bite your tongue but like. But like times be like. People like I on the right way to say like I feel like I. Get to die I get to dictate. My Dad's narrative whenever I say about my dad being. Difficult or even if I decided to share a story, I can punch it up and my dad's got no fucking recourse. Will ever know I'm GonNa win in a different situation that like my real dad. You know my bill has by the way and I say I. Yeah I actually and I know you. Have you have a kind of a strain relation with the real dad? I actually was thinking about it today and I I know I shouldn't, but I feel bad for him because I go. People write a narrative about him without even knowing him now. So I mean this. So deep and all this, but yes now I have compassionate for is a lot of compassion for him and and pure forgiveness ran to just based on his upbringing in his dad leading when he was five years old middle of the night. You know and so he had no real shot. My Dad sort of laughed and it was a good time, and then he bailed Kerr, and so I had some tools I wanted figure my shit out back in the fifties. He was just what it was. I don't know how he could have how he could have done better in a way. You know but we are. Relationship is on the men right now. Because of a stupid joke. I made on instagram. I said happy abandonment day with a picture of him take. Better time it blew the fuck up and it actually started Itala between the two of us and things are all right, but as far as talking shit. It's less talking. Shit does not afraid to say whatever I feel about my real father. You know what I mean like. If he can't handle that well, that's his problem. You know what I mean, but with Kurt. He's my damn. You're right. I'M NOT GONNA. Say things about curt that I want to sort of get off my chest in a public arena I mean there's no reason for it because it's exactly what said. Yeah I had a I had a girl, the clap in college and And I and I would lighter up. especially I felt really vindictive like. On podcast I? Just going I. got the clap. I got this girl and say her name. On my God was. Obviously I had not gotten. Life. Basically emotionally, oh, all of it! It was like the second person I check I've ever had sex with, and then it happened and I was like I just was, and it happened. WHO's? So bad, it was like so bad and the clap media. Committee. Yeah, and so and then one day I was laying in bed and I went. I bet she has recollections of of how I treated her like how I was. That aren't so fond. And everyone's got their own story. And I go you know I'm GonNa stop saying. I I was like. What the fuck is wrong with me. But it's. It's interesting that you probably think There is so much you can say about your Oliver. Your your biological father, the he really has no leg to stand on recycling. I really fucked up. Yeah Yeah I. Mean Look Lee again. We've talked it out. He has issues. You know I where he was coming from his well. Though you know I may not to say that he should have done what he did. He should've stepped up honestly and been more of a man, but you know comes into my life among encouraged of this great relationship. You know we're we're. We're sort of Nice little family and he just felt like he couldn't spitted that basically. To then sort of move away, but the problem is. It wasn't just him sort of saying. You know what I can't deal with it and then disappears by the way he lived in Malibu I twenty five minutes from me, but the problem was is that he went on the offense. was in Vanity Fair and going on inside edition and just. Off All of Shit about my mother that was not true. You know because I was living and that's why became as bad as. You know so, but it's good now we're staying in. We've had some great meetings. Drank drank twelve beers together. The other day like cried, and it's been cool mean at forty three years old you're you. I'm finding a relationship father. It's nice. What was it like an asking? Obviously in such a small respect, but I'm recognizable and you could argue famous, but. I don't I. Wonder What it's like from children's perspective from my daughter's like what was it like having a famous parent? Were like getting recognized and seeing them. People take ownership of a moment that you were having with them, and then you losing that moment. You had that experience? I hated it I. Mean I'll. I'll go first I. drove drove me crazy like I remember kid sitting at dinner tables stuff people coming up, you know and just me no being disrespectful at some points, but even when they were I just felt anger, you know. Fuck away and I mean it was a real visceral sort of feeling for me, so it was it was interesting. And of course we therapy all the crazy shit. You know I think you feel like these people are taking a piece of your parents in a way. You know they're taking their attention away from you and there's so much going on. These people drove me drove me. Nuts. See I've seen both sides of it and now I understand why Oliver Sift addicting. People come up to him at it dinners. I grew up again. "joe buck" Discussed on Sports Media with Richard Deitsch

"How do you deal with people who hate Joe Buck Tuck Blah Blah Blah? You know the the interesting thing. There is that The narrative on that has shifted a little bit and there are people now who I think a lot of stories out there and I'm glad to see this who I think. Appreciate your work for your work where I'm getting to on this. This is an again. If my thesis here is wrong please let me know but having interviewed you and known you for a long time. I get the impression that and maybe it's having when young kids. Maybe it's your second marriage. Whatever it is there seems to be some Kinda ship with you where you stopped sort of caring so much about what was being set about you on social media or what was being written about you and just sort of like sort of understood that like so much of that is kind of bullshit and then just went about your day and I think my sense is even when you're interviewed and when I read interviews from you there's a different feel to them? You can tell me full of Shit here. But that's been my read over the the last couple of years. What's your reaction to that? Yeah I think there's there's a lot of Truth in that. And what you just said I don't know that I'm doing the game any differently than I've ever done it. You know I think you know you and I have talked in the past and I think I've talked about this probably on on this podcast but I'm certainly addressed it that. When when in Chris Collins Worth Troy Aikman and I took over for Pat Summerall and John Madden I launched into this stupid pat summerall? Aw Impression and there was only one pat summerall and I and I regard him and I regard he and John as as Kinda groundbreaking certainly record-setting with the amount of time that they were together but but they are everybody over. Uses the whole Mount Rushmore. But but they are that they're on that for NFL broadcasters AL's there too. Obviously but I think of those guys and I. I think I was a bit intimidated back then and I tried and I'm working with two people instead of one and so I tried to just low key it as best I could and I think that came off. As being disinterested disinterested I'm be most interested person I feel like in the business now. I would imagine everybody feels that way about their own work otherwise you wouldn't do it But but that. That's the one part that I was pissed me off like he acts like he doesn't care all I do care. And and if if I'm not talking are going nuts the entire game. That's really me just trying to get out of the way whether that's however that's taken. That was certainly the intention. And then when I went through the by vocal issue and I had a paralyzed vocal cord and I was more worried about how a sound was gonna come out of my mouth and out of my throat than what I was Gonna GonNa say That shook me to my core and I was worried about things I'd never thought about. Before in my life you know like You know whatever surgeon losing losing feeling in his fingers or you know whatever the analogy would be in other places of business and I couldn't talk And make the the right kind of sound that was frightening and when it came back you know I I did kind of say you know fuck it. I don't care I'm just going to do the game I wanNA. Why do people are GonNA think? I'm rooting against their team. Because they don't hear people do. It's a baseball thing. At least I've convinced myself that it's a baseball. SPAW thing because people for the most part here. Their hometown announcers their team announcers for one hundred and sixty two games a year and I could do a seminar on this but you and I talked about this one time on the phone or we texted about it even directors cutting games if you're doing a local package the the the hometown I if I'm doing a game for the cardinals and I'm cutting it as director of broadcasting about it the cardinal fans. Don't care about the Max. They don't care about the mets bullpen. They don't care about the dodgers Jersey padres but when the national guy show up you have to cover both sides and you have to get excited when the other team hits a home run and two fans ear. It's it's awful I mean. It's it's nails on a chalkboard you're you're pissed off as a fan and now the astle on TV is yelling and screaming about not just hit a home. Run against your guy and so you understand it and once you understand it you just kind of blow it off and I. I think I've become a little bit more mature. Were that way I'm certainly secure with what I with. What I've done in my career and I go back and listen to myself at twenty seven doing a world series on National National TV at Yankee Stadium? And and I I've there's been enough time now where I look back on that and I listened to it I go God man I was twenty seven and I wasn't scared appeared and I I handled myself in some ways before social media and all that other stuff and the noise. I was better than than I am at times. is now. Because I was a little bit more freewheeling so I you know I've gone through a lot of different cycles in my life in my career and when quote Unquote Okay Twitter reacts. That's fine twitter. Twitter always gonNA react if you have any opinion and you just have to let that live live and and not fight it and laugh at it and just go on and do your job done it for a long time. Now if I sucked at it I wouldn't be doing it and You know I know. I'm I'm accomplished what I do. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to operate I'd be intimidated and then I would really suck Joe. I want to ask you about Your just something in your personal life and you mentioned you referenced earlier that you have. I think maybe it's a little older now twin boys and as someone who's a father of young twins myself the one thing that is really true. And it's obviously much harder for our wives but the one thing that's really true is your energy level is very different. You know as a would be different as a twenty twenty five year old father and you obviously have a job and you mentioned earlier how you travel. So I'm wondering just in terms of having these very very young Children how have you at least at this point sort of navigated the real physicality of taking care of young twins with Ajab that while is not as certainly demanding construction work or something like that does have its travel and does have some other things that are not Azizi as they would be if you were twenty five. Yeah you know I. I'm glad you through that in about being a construction worker or you know working nine nine to five or eight to eight and you know punching a time clock or working on semblance line or whatever it might be the believe me. I'm not the ASSHOLE. Do things that what I do is demanding or You know physically taxing or can wear you into the ground. I know there are so many people how my dad worked harder in his career and I thought firsthand I work Even in two thousand nineteen doing Thursday Sunday football and world series. And all that. It's a great job and I love to work. I saw my dad firsthand with a great work ethic I also I also feel like I'm a good dad and and I I say that knowing that people could roll their eyes but I feel like the asked. My daughter's twenty three and twenty now who their best friend is. They'd say me and and and I feel like at some point when my kids are able to put a full sentence together my boys they're gonNA know that I they're going to know that I've done everything I can do to let them know that they are the most important things in my life And and so the physicality thirty of it is hard. You know getting dumb as it is. I mean I've had two back surgeries a broken neck In physically in my past and getting up and down off the floor and lifting these kids one if feels like he weighs three thousand pounds. One Kid's light as a feather and you know throw in these guys around and and and lifting them off the floor and changing their diapers. I'm in there getting dirty as I can be and You know that that requires flying home after a Thursday Thursday night game and getting up with him on Friday morning. If I'm in this house they know in this house and they now on their face and and that's the only way I want to do it so it is taxing axeing and it is tiring so worth it and that's the beauty of being a dad the second time around. I get to see what this leads to. I get to be close with my daughters and now I get to put that work in with my sons and you know God willing. I live long enough. And they're you know on their way to college which someday and and they want dad to visit they wanna come home. 'cause they miss me or they want they want me involved in their lives and that that's that's the best part of all this and it's so much more important than the other stuff we've talked about our twitter the super bowl or any of that you know at the end of the day I that that's why I feel like I was put on this. Earth is it to be a good dad and and produce four now You know good citizens that that will try to do good in the world. That's that's well said and you know now come to believe that true love is two two and a half year old twins throwing up on you and you still love them. After that experience. I had that two weeks ago and then I got sick and then I had it off to do a game in Cleveland and I think that that helmet swinging game and you know I'm I'm I've got chills and I'm getting hot and cold and sweaty and feverish and I threw up the day before and you know that that's just part rid of it but you'll love it and you wouldn't want it any other way and then you have to go answer the bell for work but again so does everybody and that doesn't mean I'm different different than anybody else. I just have to do my work on national TV. And and I like it that way. It's it's a fun life and it's it's all I've ever wanted to do a a couple more things here and I'll let you go do you is there. Are there any sports that you watch Away from football and baseball that you just do for just pure fun on one of the things. That's always interesting to me is when I learned You know when I talked to somebody who's like well regarded a well-known sport for instance like Adam Schefter. WHO's like a big NBA Nerd and like his most fund? Sports experience isn't football it's like watching the NBA and being part of an NBA. Fantasy League. Do you is there something away from the traditional sports that we know you of that you that you check out often absolutely. I mean hockey. I I've been my dad was the first voice the Blues He used to joke that he knew nothing about hockey. But it was radio and he kinda fake his way through it And he passed that love of hockey on to me the blues and then I passed it on to my daughter so I up until this year. There's a first year have not been a season ticket holder since my early twenties when I was working for the cardinals not making a Lotta money but still wanted to to go down and watch the blues so this past year when they came out of the the dungeon to end up winning the Stanley Cup is one of the the best fan experiences. Really probably the best sports experience of my life And you know I. It's the one thing. I can openly root for people everybody in San Francisco. Thanks I go to that in Cardinal Pajamas every night and I don't but I get to to open I sit in seats. We used to have seats behind the net And where Blues Blues Hat not gone to the Jersey yet But but be there with my daughter's openly Ruchir get mad get Get pissed get you know. Have be exhilarating and then then any get the whole national thing and you know for as much as I admire. Doc Emrick as close as I am to Kenny Albert. I get it you know when the Games matter out of the most..

"This is how we show the advertiser that you're listening to this. And that we're the ones who sent you there. So what is the slogan for recruiter meets, the smartest way to hire. Let's get to Joe buck. You know, we like to talk to interesting people about interesting things around here. And I feel like Joe buck has been miscast that many of you have an opinion of Joe buck that is inaccurate. Or some of you have an opinion of Joe buck is not a stiff smug. No, it all he's a charming Noel so Joe buck with us. I'm curious. I just found out that you got touted up you got touted up late in life that you got bicep tattoos. I love this about you. I did the only thing that didn't come with the tattoos or the biceps kind of kind of a disappointment. When you when you have to get that worked on by a guy attached to parlor in mid Missouri. And then you realize when you kinda pull the sleep back that he's basically working on flab. Okay. But but beyond that, though, the idea you got into your forties here. And this is love that made. You do this. I wanna talk to Joe buck about how he got turned upside down. Yeah. I I don't know. I don't know that I've, you know, maybe at turned right? I was I was upside down for a while. I think personally not any bad way or any any alarming situation type thing. But I think I was a pretty unhappy person as as, you know, at some point aging human walking this earth and after going through divorce and getting through all of the. You know, kinda the rundown and the anxiety and guilt that is a socio with divorce when you have children, I think more than for any other reason, you know, I I met Michelle who's now my wife, and while she's younger than I think because she looks younger than she is. And I look older than I am the age gap appears to be way weirder than it, actually is I only seven years, but you know, I I realized that after coming out of the divorce that I've I don't know that I ever really was in in a great place as as an adult in a marriage, and I'm sure my ex wife probably say the same thing, you know, I think you grow over time. And yeah, I mean, I know we got into this on tattoos. And it was kinda like a little symbolic thing that I put on me to not forget kind of that little patch that I went through during the divorce, and you know, kinda come out of the other end of it. She helped get you too happy. Yeah. I think so I mean, I. Ultimately, I've been doing therapy. Didn't know that ultimately that that's really up to the person not somebody else to make the person happy. And so I don't eat all that on her. But I, you know, we have fun and we laugh, and and we're both in the business, and she's been a great step mom and my daughter's adore her. And now, you know, here we sit a handful years later, and she and I are parents of seven month old twin boys, and so it's it's it's gone kinda fast and furious here, but yeah, I beyond happy. I mean, I think content is better word than happy. I think when you're content, and I'm forty nine years old, and I feel like I work hard and do the best job. I can content is a good place to be at this point in my life. This might be a dumb question. But did you know, you're unhappy? Yeah. I think so. Yeah. I I don't know that that outside of therapist office. It's fair to talk about your relationship with somebody who isn't even represented in the conversation. I like I said, I mean, I think we were my wife, and I were I think really good parents. And the best thing I can say, and I think at the end of it, all, you know, she was my first ever girlfriend. We went out with your fifteen. We broke up and got back together over the I dunno seven years or so between fifteen and when we got married I got married at twenty three. There were some other people in there that we both dated separately..

Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers discussed on Mark Levin

"From from ESPN they had the dodgers winning last night's game six two zero. And then even after you know, what we've been seeing from the brewers the had the dodgers winning tonight six to three. I mean, oh, you know, you're you're seeing you know, a lot of the the narrative that can the brewers have can they ride this hot street and beat you know, this huge Iran's run spurring dodgers team. Right. And and it's like, you know, we were very hot. I mean. Absolutely. But this is more than just a streak, and this is more than just, you know, October walks. Yeah. Let's look down the line lineup. Yeah. Let's look at this. Okay. The brewers play in a tougher division and the dodgers do up and down. They play baseball. You've got this unbalanced schedule. So the brewers they're playing the cardinals. And they're playing the pirates and they're playing the cubs all teams that are well over five hundred that's the toughest schedule in the National League. And the brewers won four more games than the Los Angeles Dodgers with their two hundred twenty million dollar payroll did. But of course, they're not on anybody's radar screens because well TV the TV people live in Los Angeles where they live in New York. So they're not paying attention to the brewers. And and it can it's just I guess, I am venting. I admit it. But and maybe I've got this chip on my shoulder. But this is a great story and people should be talking about how exciting this team is to come out of nowhere and be doing all this great stuff instead of well, they're lucky the riding the wave or whatever. Absolutely. And. I think what's interesting is. You know, you bring up a good point the Milwaukee Brewers don't give as many nationally televised games. So all writing a little bit under the radar. If you're not around the area. But I mean, you look at our partitioning staff, which has been given great, you know, actually been given the respect. But even even with our pitching staff, you had you had traditions that you know, the dodgers bats are just too high. It'd be starting to Iran's. But then you look at past two games. And it's just not. Exactly. I mean, look is it possible that LA's going gonna come back and win the series? Yes. I guess it's possible. I I respect them. They are a good team. What I am frustrated with is the lack of respect that our team is getting a team that had a better regular season record than the vaunted dodgers, and at least as of right now is leading in the series guaranteeing that you know, worst case scenario there's gonna be a game six in Milwaukee, and candidly, candidly were it not for you know, one bad pitch in one bad inning. Dodgers would be trying to win tonight to avert. A sweet this has been the dodgers have been at least in my opinion completely. And totally outplayed by the Milwaukee Brewers. But don't expect to hear that if you tune into the national coverage, here's a text. I'm sick of hearing the national media keep on insinuating that the brewers are over achieving lucky and that NFL likely. Manager of the year Craig counsel, supposedly doesn't know what he's doing. Absolutely, absolutely. And I mean, this I guess this is what you come to expect. When you have this great local team that's on the national stage. But I'm frustrated with four one four seven nine nine one six twenty. Let's talk to let's see let's talk to Dan in greenvale, Daniel WTMJ good afternoon. Hey, Jeff, I think it has a lot to do with the west coast by Fania. The market out there. You know, I don't think I don't necessarily think their their dog and the brewers just they're really hoping for the dodgers in their for their ratings are greater back on what Kansas City won the World Series. Great World Series of very low rated. Yes. Right, right. The the ideal dream of the networks is Los Angeles. And now that knew it would have been Los Angeles and New York, but now that Los Angeles, the Yankees are out of it, the dream is the dodgers and the Red Sox, you know, two of the larger media markets, Houston and Milwaukee. Oh my gosh. That's flyover country. How can you know? What's that gonna do? So I think you're you're probably onto the brewers were. Okay. Sunday night. Baseball is ESPN's featured thing it's it's sort of like Sunday night football. The brewers didn't play on Sunday night baseball. They weren't scheduled any time. This year mean seriously how many times can you watch the Yankees play? The Boston Red Sox four one four seven nine nine one six twenty Mike in Waterford micro WTMJ afternoon. I definitely agree with what you're saying. And I think part of the problem with the analyst, especially as of yet don't know how to analyze a team like the brewers. They're completely different. They do the analytics like who who announces the bullpen as the starting pitchers the brewers. And so these guys that have played traditional baseball traditional cities with traditional teams with the big starting pitching what to say about him in the first place. Right. And they still can't grasp the fact that they're winning that way. It's almost like when the west coast offense came into nobody believed that the San Francisco forty Niners. We're going to be that good. Because how can you do this with their stink and drive and no running game and stuff like that? I go way up playing baseball. And I agree with you, Mike, except I'm willing to make a prediction if the situation were reversed in the brewers were the more conventional team with the starters that went seven innings and the dodgers were the ones that were pushing the envelope and all this stuff. My guess is the spin would be how incredibly unconventional they're rewriting all the rules. This is the future of baseball look at where visionary Dave Roberts. That would be the big the big story. And and I I don't think they like the fact that this new way of playing baseball is coming from Milwaukee. Yes. Absolutely. I think you're exactly right. They resent it. They don't understand it. And they okay. This is not the way it's done. And here you have this little team out of Milwaukee to been able to do this. And I just look I understand inventing. But but somebody who's been a long suffering baseball fan for a long time and a huge brewers fan. I think this is a special season. I do and. And it is frustrated me all along that this team isn't getting the respect that. I think it deserves outside of Milwaukee. Now as long as they keep winning, it doesn't matter and see. That's that's I guess the bottom line keep winning. And you know, who cares? What anybody else thinks? But I think the coverage of the brewers and the national commentators, and then blessed the left the the left coast bias that you've seen towards the the dodgers has been just appalling, I understand that you can pick and choose and somebody that's a great game or or whatever. But just just watch the criticism of the council gets for the different decisions. He makes that did end up. They end up working did end up working because what the brewers are doing right now is something special looking I fully understand dodgers. Could maybe go ahead and win three in a row. And then they go on to the World Series. And Welby said even though it's been a great year. But I mean, this this is an incredibly good story. It's a wonderful story. And it is unfortunate that that story is not. Being told to the national the national audience on a better basis. So luckily, the answer to all this is of course, just to turn down the sound turn up WTMJ and listened to Bob and Jeff do the call. That's of course, the answer to it. But it doesn't change the frustration that I have listening to a lot of the commentators who don't know the brewers don't like the viewer. The brewers don't know anything about Milwaukee and desperately want to see the Los Angeles Dodgers win. Well, maybe they're going to get their wish. But I wouldn't be surprised if I don't know every once in a while the good guys win. And maybe some of the announcers the Joe bucks of the world the Bob Costas of the world. Maybe then they'll even have to figure out how to pronounce the names of some of the brewers players for forty-nine, Jeff Wagner WTMJ. Twelve

"They measure television ratings and a lot of different ways today versus you. Know twenty years ago now you have DVR, and you have digital and, things that They can go into the ultimate rating but, the initial rating for. Tuesday's major league baseball all-star game at least by some metrics had, a rerun of, America's got talent. On NBC beating the all star game you hear about this And. Again that's Joe buck Well me we're talking yesterday but all the little gimmicks that they added into the game and whether you like. Those are don't like those but just the idea of the fact that the game itself struggled again by certain metrics to beat out a rerun, of the reality reality show, which is a a summertime fill in primetime reality show. Matt kids like, that show but I mean it's there's a reason why some things run in. July and, some things run May, put something up yeah so test pattern but let's. Talk football for a second here because yesterday was media day for the ACC coaches in Charlotte. And Larry fedora who of course is the head coach of the North. Carolina tar heels and we are of course the Charlotte flagship of the North, Carolina tar, heels basketball and football so you can hear those games including Larry fedora and his coaches, show in the fall here on, WBZ Larry fedora yesterday several comments Jim that have gotten a lot of attention. Comments he made a or some of. Them, he made in his, mainly main press conference to everybody and then he did some follow up interviews that have gotten some attention but. The first one here I want to talk about is in this one this one the audio is better because he's speaking to everybody as opposed, to kind of aside Mike, but this one here you've heard maybe you've heard about. The Larry fedora, talking about the game being under attack it will be decline of our country I there's no doubt amongst Because of the lessons that you. Learn, the game of football Relate to everything that's going to happen We stop learning those lessons I think in some ways struggling more. Now than we ever have Are we ever going to be sofa country Not by any means But I do think, the game of football This, is a major impact on who you are So the Sports Illustrated headline generated from those statements is Larry fedora says, football is under attack and could bring down America and that was kind of a secondary point to him saying that the link between. CTE's which of course chronic dramatic concussion type syndrome some? Joan, valor Ed versus. Said, that coming from football yeah doubted. That link he he tried to put it to it, comes from. Head, on collisions which come from football everybody else he he was. Kind of try to make some points in, there there's there's little kernels of truth in there but he was so overreached, in the commentary was trying. To make that I it came up very odd, it's hard to lose a press conference kickoff luncheon but he did The way. Overreach there there are links and there's been studies, in, Chapel Hill and other places. Between obviously c. t. CTE and employers having suicides and all kinds of things happening college pro whatever the case may be, so there are studies that verified that and there is a lot more work and study to be done so we don't know everything. At this point and then the the military aspect is? What, you're talking about. Is, being the only football playing nation. Leads to us having a strong military that this all, goes down. So, will the military so will the US so he he really. Overreached in a lot of ways so again, the audio it's a little hard to hear but I think you can make, it out this is referring. To the CT comments that says okay you're just, talking about clarifications When I said I'm not sure that anything Football Now Lows to. Post Salaam assuming every sport As long as Got any kind of contact you can have that that does not diminish the fact We still safer And he went on to talk about how safe and all the things they've instituted at Carolina to. Protect the, player so he he started itemizing those things would as you, point out here you have a media day yesterday where the main point is all the coaches go in and do a, regular press conference and then they go kind of a round radio row and talk to various stations that are there..
