"The NFL's different. I think the. MLB is a little different, because the season hasn't even started but with the NHL and NBA It was an act of God. There's nothing you can do to Prevent the halting of. Those Leagues and just call it off. I I'm tired of these leagues. Saying well could do this and we could do that and we are talking about the possibility of. Playing these games and empty buildings like enough already. That's not what's not what I want and I don't think it's. The Super Majority of hockey fans want is some. Truncated playoff format. That gives us a champion for the sake of having a champion I'm not for that at all. I mean I think if they do a playoff format in the platform they have now. It's the exact same. They just can't the regular season. I don't think you have to technically put an asterisk next to it however, if you have a totally different playoff format that is. Not What we have now, robin, exactly. No, then you have to put an asterisk than it's totally different. And it's you know that that Stanley. Cup that team wins is always like well. They want it not. For Cock to twenty, nine hundred and twenty season. You know and the thing is so. they're talking about possibly playing at Ralph. Angst in arena in grand forks North Dakota and then possibly in Manchester New Hampshire, those are the two sides have been thrown right now. Obviously would love New Hampshire because just near us. But the thing is I just think. This is tough for everybody. It's tough especially for team like the Bruins, who doesn't have a huge cup window with the veterans on their team? And this season, which was supposed to be another shot at the cup, another shirt fire eastern conference final potentially is gone. You know probably and the momentum they had was killed David fifty goals again like this is the thing this is I'm going off on tangents here. No, you should, that's. What good podcast! Go ahead it's true, but when I think about like what I just said, so the bruins missing the cup and the Bruins. Cup Window shortening and David Posh fifty goals. All of those aren't even close to problems that I. Care about right now like. I don't care about that stuff right now because. Of what's going on in the world like it makes it seem so silly that I'm sitting here going well, you know the world's burning around me and the economy's tanking and people losing their jobs tonight, but David posh knock didn't hit fifty goals like. So horrible. I asked his wishes to my point. Why are people so worried about getting these leagues back up and running? Get Society backup running well, you, you know these games will give a sense of normalcy. No, they won't not. If people don't have jobs to pay for, you, know playoff tickets, or they're capable bill. They're not gonNA feel. I I feel very strongly that the last thing we should be worried about. Is these leagues coming up with some truncated form of playoff format just to put games on TV so people can watch and. I guess it'd be there for somebody to watch, but you know I go back to two thousand thirteen and that season was incredibly shortened, but the playoffs structure. was legitimized because it was essentially a the playoffs as usual. That's why I think there's no ASTERIK. By the two thousand thirteen Chicago Blackhawks win over the Bruins in the Cup final. Because Blackhawks had to win sixteen games in the Stanley Cup.

Maybe there's someone else Carlson. He just signed eleven point five million dollars. It's insane. eight million dollars for tyler myers he says second pair guy i like tyler myers a month ago i was saying hey we should resign him i'd love to bring him back here but i was thinking like five million like something realistic jim benning maybe in vancouver is about the hand this guy fifty six million dollar check to have at it i i like him but not that much not that much at all you know while such say by the way For we take a break, if Tyler a world where Tyler Myers might get eight million dollars a year. You should get something really nice harassment's stolen. he's a better player than tyler myers i think they're very compatible i've compared the many times on the show i think they're compatible i do think crystalline is a little bit better and he's five years younger he certainly puts up more points they both have their woes in their own end Brisa line and puts more points, though consistently. myers has not had forty points i think since the second year with the sabres he hit his forty points is i two years with buffalo hasn't done it since we're still lying things done at like five years in a row so you're getting more often to production there you're getting a guys five years younger and you're getting a guy on a way better contract of what this report if this report is accurate so you should be able to get something really nice find the team by the way just before they even signed myers find the team that's about the do that that's what bochum should be doing hunt down the general manager it's about the pay tyler myers fifty six million over seven years and see if they want the line because if you want him at that then you should want to give up something pretty nice for risto if it is the canucks What's crazier? Stanley Cup Playoffs Daily: Blues push Sharks to the brink

"Us now after a big Blue's win in San Jose. Alex Ferrario thanks for coming on overnight, America. Well right now. Right. I'm so inept up. I'll come on, anytime you want. At this point, I'm getting sick of all the San Jose fans. It's like Crimea river already. So the blues after the debacle with the NHL, who has since admitted they made a mistake, when it came to the hand pass, the have come out swinging. They've only lit up one goal in the last two games a big five nothing victory today in San Jose with game. The next game game six coming to Saint Louis on Tuesday night. I wanna get your impressions of this big game five victory. What are your thoughts? Well, honestly if surprised at how much they dominated the betas as sharks, you know, I'd go back to that game six against the one picked. Yes, Ryan, where what was on the brink of elimination and blues held them to two or three shots. I believe through the first two periods of the game. And you know this I think was the biggest game of the season for both teams. I mean, I don't think either side what's to be down three to two in the series, and especially now that it's coming back to St Louis where the blues can eliminate San Jose Sharks, where they're two for two and elimination games playing in St Louis. So I was very surprised at how much the Blu Ray able to dominate San Jose Sharks. But the end of the day you just gotta take into the Packers. I mean Jordan bidding to outstanding for the shot that he did see the blue defense was even better limiting David n shots. The final two periods of the game. But at the end of the day, I mean, the blues have gotten to stand. Jose sharks. They're in their head. I mean I you have an air Carlson was injured. Didn't play the third period. Philosophy hurdle is injured and didn't play in the third period and then three other guys left early in the third period, two of them because they tried to get fancy a nasty with their place. So they were down to nine eight or eight skaters at the end of the hockey game. So I mean, the blues just completely dominated Ryan, and they got into the day, sharks his head. And, you know, I think right now the sharks are way way big underdogs going into Tuesday night in in game. Six. Yeah. And the way that the blues have just been able to play their game. They're playing solid hockey in. It's just amazing to see how they could smother the opportunities of the opponent. We saw towards the end of the last series. And now we're seeing with the given a very limited shots and even quality shots against San Jose. So comes back here. And I think the blues got the eye of the tiger. You know how exciting this is for Saint Louis to know we could close this out and go to the Stanley Cup finals on home ice. I know the pressure is there, but the blues are looking so good. Yeah, they really are. And I mean you know you gotta take him to the consideration. Some of the other things from the game today to Ryan you know, the offense terrorists Saco with three point four points. But the goal in to assist James sports with another hat trick. I mean, we spent we spent so much time throughout the postseason talking about where the big names are where the top scores are. And now they're starting to show their faces against the San Jose Sharks team. And this is huge coming back to say Lewis because not only are you going for an elimination game while you're trying to do something that hasn't been done since nineteen seventy I mean, think about that, for a minute, almost fifty years since the blues have been in a Stanley Cup final, and they could police their spot to go to that on Tuesday night in Saint Louis and taking a consideration. Everything that took place that season from firing Mike, yo to bringing in Craig ruby as the interim head coach and springing up, Jordan Bennington. And fighting through adversity and fighting through everybody. That said there's no chance of loose can do this. And now they're about to push their ticket to the family Cup finalists. Just incredible. Think about in. I mean, honestly, it gives me goosebumps to think about how loud enterprise center, we'll be back to twenty sixteen. When the blues eliminated Chicago Blackhawks from the playoffs in the first round and means that place blew the roof off of the Scott Trade Center at the time. Yeah, multiply that a hundred if they pull out a victory on Tuesday night, and I think it's a big if because look San Jose Sharks knack for gets the wall. And if they could find a way to get their injured is in the lineup. They're going to be dangerous team to deal with plus the watch party that they had is a pretty good indicator. The fans are just ready man. They are a Hong grief for this. How cool was it to see that? Yeah. Yeah. Petrocelli are phenomenal food assistance through regular season. In most seasons. That'd be a video. He was there. And from what I understand they sold out that enterprise, and now they weren't selling out tickets for the top fortune. They were telling them for the lower portion, but you said that they were sold out that place was loud, that place was Brockie in, in the top dad. Both part of village was shoulder to shoulder from what I understand watching those games. So the city is guiding for a Stanley Cup championship. The city is dying to be in the finals and to be in there is one thing. Let's do it with the storyline that the blues put together this season. I mean, if you think about it Ryan this could go down. If the blues were to accomplish this daily come this could go down as one of the best duck and tap run in the history of the National Hockey him, it could go down as one of the best seasons in the National Hockey League for a team that was. Last in the NHL January stuck in considered to be done talking about trading away their top players. And now you're sitting here talking about playing the Boston Bruins in the first earned the final round of the Stanley Cup playoff just on real to think about it is really is. So this is really unreal. Five wins is all it's gonna take now five wins to be that close considering where we were just in January. So I wanted to talk to you about the game. That's on Tuesday night. The blues have been looking great ever since that hand pass man. They've been ignited they got that either tiger going on. What are you looking for on Tuesday night here in Saint Louis? Oh, you're gonna have to look for them to be responsible. Because like I mentioned San Jose is going to be a very dangerous team. I mean look they're one of the highest scoring teams of the regular season in the postseason for the NHL and you know that all centers around what will happen with Erik Carlson. I found it really interesting today after the game, you know, was asked if he looks back on his decision of playing Eric Carlson and regrets it. And, you know, he said hindsight, you can't really sit there. But you got to do it all over again. Yeah, you probably would have spread Carlson because of that nagging groin injury and didn't play the third period. So look, you gotta wait to find out what the lineup it'd be a look like if we're gonna have a Carlson Belsky hurdle looking to any of those big time players for the game. But, you know, Tuesday's gonna come down to the blues remaining focused on what they're trying to accomplish. You know, these guys have talked about how big it was Craig ruby to come into the locker room after game three without hand fast and tell them it's done move on. Get ready for this one. And I think that is the reason why the team is where they are right now trying to win. It's hard to go to Stanley Cup. Yeah. You know, it's, it's going to have to be ready for that game going gonna have to be ready for a hard push from the San Jose Sharks in the first period. But who's got the fan side behind him. They got the whole night's behind them enough to click. So I think if they just do what they've done so far this season. And then in the postseason, I again I know it sounds dumb, but simple hockey is what's going to win the series for them. I gotta say that Tarasenko shootout goal Goldman or the penalty. Schott. What a laser shot from him man. And I think that these players I mean they're going out there and you saw kind of a balancing act. Sometimes you see the star player step up and sometimes you see the role player step up. You've had a pretty good mix of that going in which is pretty good indicator. Plus, you've got a great backstop with Bennington that's been playing well what an exciting time. Can I just vent about one thing? I'm so. Sick of NBC in their coverage of this, you know, every time they go back to their analysis. They could care less about Saint Louis, you know, they, they focus, here's what San Jose's doing wrong in. Here's their chances of coming back. They could care less about Saint Louis. I'm getting so sick of this. Yeah. Me. You know what I guess I should say surprise me those kinda surprised because if you look at the TV ratings in this in the previous game and really throughout the playoffs Louis is dominated television ratings for these days, which goes to show you that people in St Louis care, the people outside of St Louis, tear keeping more about watching this thing. Sixteen people saying they don't even really care about hockey. They were going after the third goal scoring. I know on afternoon. So but you know what? What's four frustrating to me is just the consistent. I dunno pumping the tires of players like Joe Thornton, and players like jokes Avella ski and Logan. The tour. I, I mean just any chance, they get the talking about how great it would be killed when a Stanley Cup for the amount of time. He's been in the NHL what's up forget about Jake Bohm Easter who's been in the NHL just as long as Joe Thornton, who's never wanna Stanley Cup. I think that's a very intriguing side of it. And then you're. Talking about Logan could tour with his eleven goals in the postseason, which is, you know, high up there since two thousand ten with Alex. Oh, betchine's. Well, let's look at Jay Schwartz. Who's one goal away from tying a blues record for most postseason goals with bread home. And I like I get it. You wanna California team in there if you're NBC, and you want the California Boston, west coast, east coast at the end of the day they never wanna Stanley Cup was dying for Stanley Cup.

Sharks-Avalanche Game 7 Roundtable: Answering the Big Questions

"You think there's sharks have what it takes in. You know with Pete the bore buying bench in everything that they've got their Martin Jones struggles. It doesn't seem to have affected them in the playoffs. But do you think the sharks? Thanks. Yeah. As long as Martin Jones is Martin Jones of the last month. I do think that would've takes I was talking to Dan Boyle about this week and other former shark and Dan was saying he believes this is the greatest chance you've ever had Dan was on some of those teams that went to the conference final back back. Here isn't ten eleven this. Is there best team? He lives in San Jose now in retirement data, and I agree with them. I mean, I think when you're third line guys like banking authority on and even door Neta days. That's pretty good through line. I covered their last series against Colorado and ban the avalanche. Or speaking of teams are going to play out in the west coast for the next ten years. Colorado was going to be one of them. But. Sharks are so D And three headed monster of burns Carlson and block and everyone forgets blessing, but he's arguably the best shutdown depending NHL and those guys I'll think thirty minutes night that just a luxury most teams don't have. And this is I think have an amazing chance. Now, the blues are playing believable hockey. So the one thing I would tell you that the victim playoff games already. They've gone to MAC, and I think that if this goes deep favor Saint Louis, I think if they're going to take the blues down, it's gotta be less than seven games in terms of their energy level. But they do have the team to win the Cup. The one thing they do have is they have a rested Joep Avello skiing. I was just going through there. So many teams this year that are coming up and they're going to have to sign these restricted free agents unrestricted free agents, he's going to be a lot of teams in cap trouble. And I look at San Jose. Hey with obviously them having to sign Eric Carlson. And I won't even go there as an unrestricted free agent. I'm more curious about knowing what do they have to pay? Joe pa- Vel ski at the age of thirty four coming off what thirty eight goal season, right? What what do they do with him the delicate part of that go? She happened to summer won't be how much they pay a middle for how many years, I mean, that's gonna be the tricky part because of his age, and the sharks have been careful with that. I mean, they got Joe Thornton now on they got him going to your deal to while back and then one year deal. And I suspect they will want start being delicate on term job of LT as well at some point here soon. So that'll be the crux of that argument and tremendous calf tremendous player, and they do have a huge off. Not only do we not know about Joe Thornton future. But Huma Myers one of young as you never get mentioned with the same crop, the breaking points and Mitch martyrs and all those young kids, but the reality is he will Meyer had a easier. And he's also one of young are coming out of entry level looking for a big rate. So they've got a LA Bank is up. So that got it. I always have interesting summers. And because when you're team that makes the plow or teen out of fifteen years means that you have a lot of talent. I mean every summers cap our cap juggling just like that. And a lot of other teams. "I kinda wish I could go back in time actually train and put down the booze and be put in a situation where I could fucking interview teams about taking meat. "Back on the drive. It is our airhead pride roundtable peace weenie Joe Thornton from the a p. Pete last week. You were hitting hard on EIB. You were hating hard. How'd you think you looked and I've got an over under question for you? I think the great I think he looked Mike. The only player that we've seen in the secondary this year who could tackle your confident to go in and blow up a play those other guys when when their next to him and he's making plays and blowing up guys. It's not even a question. You start to realize how poor the tackling. I think in the secondary has been a source of hate goes the my beef. If you really comes down to it last week was more with the hype going into his return and how excited we should be because of airi'q, Barry, I think you've gotta lived up to the hype though, he I I just maybe it's because they have not been transparent about the situation. But to me, I still have more questions about. All right. Well, where was the all year because after the game? Reporters asked him air. You can think about coming back for the ravens game wasn't in my spirit. I said last night on our at priority. Oh, tuesdays. Sick the entire week to Pete. I'm not in your spirit. I my boss next me right here. Don't if I told you. Yeah. I don't think I'm gonna work this week. You know, you can cover me on. It's not of my spirit to work. That'd be that'd be unacceptable. What have you told enough for fourteen weeks? Exactly. And so my thing is Pete though. And I apologize for cutting the big differences journalism. I mean for in our profession, I know you can die being journalist. If you go to the game and have to cover it. There's no significant body injury. That can happen to you. You can't do something that can significantly hurt your neighbors. We agree playing in the NFL of if you go out there, and you don't feel sure you don't feel comes about your leg can have some serious consequences for yourself and serious consequences of everybody else, if I don't show up to work tomorrow, everybody's behind then be fined you're gonna be fun. Everybody's gonna be fun, Mike. That's not the case in there. Then be transferred. Keren about it. They just has been so wishy washy all year, I'm thinking might thing. Is it wasn't a spirit? So we really could've came back against the ravens. Maybe instead of thirty snaps. He plays fifty snaps and the chargers they win the game. And you're off for the next three weeks right now because the Steelers upset the patriots and the other part of that to those that even said in that post game interview that he said he'd felt the same for about the last three to four weeks you lost by one point. You don't think Eric berry plays in the second half football Winneke, five minutes. And even they come down and score guarantee. There's not a guy sitting wide open in the end zone on a two point conversion. I think the chiefs are better team with Eric berry back to my beef comes in. I just am not on. This guy's our savior. I mean, he's still signed a contract made him the most expensive safety in the league. I get the ruptured achilles. But then you miss more games. That's twenty nine th street games. I think if that's any other player in any other city they are getting killed for that stretch. I think you're I think you're probably right on it being any other player. He does have a bit of a different history. So you can't change the fact that he is. Different. You do feel differently about him. Because of the cancer thing. I think I mean everything. Yeah. You know, like just the the seems like the energy. He brought the way he was pointing out players who you know, where to line up like I thought all that was meaningful. And I thought his return was a success because I left the game saying the same thing if he plays the whole game. I think the chiefs probably win that game. And the other part of the two is and I can't remember if it was Matlab Ken Swanson, the wrote the piece on.

"Jay. I saw died and the whole time and the whole time though is standing there solid. He's so scared and all set over saying either by year, I don't die. If I eat back at a guy. Die. Audio on this. Yeah, I got all the audio. And I hear I got the audio and all I hear Seto saying all I gotta do here. Your body part. All I gotta do about. I I won't. won't. It's MSCI bitchy said, you know, when I was growing up like that said if there's ever if I was ever shovel get out anyway fossil. I saw I saw blinds window. I was gone. You mentioned the to like fuck I've ever done this with someone seriously injure themselves. That would have been bad. What if he jumped out of a two story window or something? I said that I remember Doug Wilson, your old roomy would ahead wanted you dead. Yeah. I know I know the way again looking back stupid things that we do you. Learn. Yeah. But I have I have the video at my house one day. I'll one day. I'll I'll show it. One of the last things I wanna ask you about jar. Was you know, you got the plan San Jose with like Joe Thornton Marlow like that older group of guys. I mean pa- Veliky was a little younger at the time, but just some lenses legends there. Yeah. Joe thornton. I think still. Is is probably one of the most favorite teammates of every single person that plays with them. You talk about a guy who loves life of hockey loves his friends of being the lock wrote that must being on the Rover boys, you know, happy. Go lucky personality talented. He is so looked up to and so revered in that locker room in San Jose. He's a God. And there's not one person that that I've ever run into that has not met joke. Gordon, that doesn't think that he is absolutely. The best the best guy. What is best inmates that you can ever have awesome down to back that up with? I was in Vegas one time. And this is when I was playing in the American League and sure enough he was on a club that I went to is my first time to Vegas. And then I heard from my buddy who was a host that Joe Thornton, Sarah. So I went up and said hi to them. I'm a nobody. He doesn't fuck Paul says he invited me into his table and gave me a drink. I think is brother reserved to and I was like holy shit, man. Like there couldn't be a nicer guy like like he fucking invited mart of payable to grab give me a drink. And I was playing in the coast at the time. Yeah. He's doesn't matter where you are who you are your, you know, Joe Joe, Joe Torre's gonna treat you with respect and love and is no question about it. You know, we've all had great teammates. Right. You guys have had great teammates. You know? I wasn't never had the the pleasure plane with both you guys. I'm sure I would say the same things about you guys. I mean, that's. Being hockey player and being in that locker rooms a special thing, there's some guys that are just just way more noticeably passionate and fun than other people. But still it's it is is such a close family, and there, isn't it? Yeah. And you've been around a lot of athletes, you know, all the celebrity golf stuff, you type do, and I still think hockey players, and maybe it's because we're biased we are them. But the easiest guys to get along with. And I think that's what makes it makes it so special, but we've take. We've taken a lot of your before before I go before I go with..

"Okay. Ten straight. Let's do that thing where we watch a highlight comment on everything about it. Second by second. You always realized we've played on this all all day. But I am not in position to do that because the computer is over there. I'm going to have to figure this out. Yeah, logistics. So if you want to do this with us, we'll give you like a minute. It was tweeted to me earlier and then again in the last few minutes, and the the more recent one that was tweeted to wash his longer. So that starts at the face off. We're gonna look at the end of the game the last shift of the game. Yeah. There's about seventeen seconds. Right, right. I've got the video paused is three forty three left. Got that on my I'm big screen on my one of my desktops. The other one is this thing that Ben Matthew should just tweeted us, and I re tweeted it, so if you wanna play along and go find it in our Twitter feeds or my Twitter feed four minutes. Seventeen seconds, clipped, whatever. So just move it to three forty three forty three. It's take it. Take a second and go get go. Get that go get your boots. Make sure you get your gloves and your hat. Yup. All bundled up for this. The end of the game last night. And so three forty three left. You know, the rest of it. It was two to nothing then it was too too too. Right. Blood. They blew a lead to two. And then we're in overtime. We had Jack Eichel had a scoring chance animal if that's immediately before this. But this opening shift of overtime. He's out there with Reinhard endow lean and they get a two on one and much like Pittsburgh. I think they even pointed this out on the on the telecast, rob said, it he shoots sort of for the same spot between the arm and the body is where the shot goes. But Jones seals it up. Doesn't exactly have. And it seems like it's loose Reinhard dives in there. Anyway, they maybe a rather Eichel has to maybe be careful not to be like whacking at rhinehart was lying there. That'd be annoying to him. Maybe he puck is right there. But it would take him sort of slapping at rhinehart face to get to it. So we're we're past that we are at three forty three left in overtime. And if you're if you're following along with us right now the puck is the puck has just been. Then past there was an outlet pass just made by that would be evanger Cain, right? So the puck is is visible about halfway between Kane and Rasmus, Darlene. Who right from the very beginning of this video where we're starting it. I love this already because Darlene is a left handed shot, and you have Kane making this long pass from just above his own circle or the right circle in his own end. And Darlene is trying to it looks like make a kick save because in this picture, not including the goalies, you have everybody except Joe Thornton who was on the ice. Right. You have Cain Carlson side by side in the shark zone. Kane is making the long past Thornton Subotica for buffalo is behind Cain. Futilely attempting to reach him Darlene appears to be trying to block the past. With his rights skate and Skinner is above dollar, and he's just a little bit too far out of position to do anything right on this. So you know, what happens? You look at this picture, you might go. How is this? Not a breakaway for Joe Thornton. Right. Everybody else. Why is he up there? Right. And everybody else is down here. I don't know the answer to that. But he is he's way up there. He's not in the picture everybody else's way down here. So do you know? What happens here? Yeah. I know exactly. What happens here the past is blocked. Oh, wait. Okay. He he does. All right. Well, I'm I'm not on the same frame of this is you are even though the because I I've got the puck right at Dow leans foot, and I can't tell that he blocks it it looks like it's going past him. But maybe he's already blocked and it's coming back. The other way is what I've got he blocks it with wait. Oh now, you went way too far. Now, you have to rewind blocks it he he succeeds at blocking the pass, but he looks down and it caroms toward Carlson now Carlson, everybody's going from left to right or was going up the ice. Right. Darlene looks down but the passes deflected the Carrim the wrong way. Right. And now Carlson is gonna make the pass to Thornton. Yeah. Carlson's about. I've got the puck just outside the neutral zone dot com. Outside the shark. Blue line and Carlson is right about to pick it up and Dalian is has just realized he doesn't have it and Thornton is still not in the picture on my screen at that point Carlson doesn't have the buck yet. I still don't see Thornton yet. So like how how he got out of there so fast. I mean, he's not a quick skater at this point in his career. Never really was Joe Thornton. I mean, he's thirty eight years old or whatever he is ancient I mean, that's a you might as well be a million years old. That battle along the wall for him to take the chance like, okay, we're gonna we're gonna be fine. We're gonna he reads that correctly, we're gonna we're gonna come out with the puck on this on this is there's a sh- muzzle there on the wall where Subotica in Dalian sort of get their wires crossed. Now, you're talking about before I'm trying to explain why Thornton is way up where he is. He makes a guess. Yup. He takes a chance, right? And he ends up guessing. Right. And so yeah. So you click right so Carlson now the pass was blocked canes pass was blocked Carlson is right there. 'cause right to him. He makes the same pass up to Thornton. Did you not think Thornton was offside? Like, you're watching the game. He's way off side. Now Marty baron on the post game show on TV. Excitedly like, I just watched it back. He was not off-side. So I'm gonna I'm gonna stop here where the puck is in the zone. Thornton is straddling. He's his rights skate is barely on the blue line the pockets in and it's coming to him. We go a little further. This is a little bit different than I want it. All right. So. Thornton does. It's brilliant. Like he is onsite. He is on side. He waits. He's able to he when he. He takes the puck in the in the sabers zone. But he waits for it to come across the line before he goes in. Right. So he's not moving which explains why he's way ahead of everyone gets only just shown up in the in the screen if you're playing along with us, but he stationary. So everybody else is already moving that way and has had a seam up, which is how Skinner is able to make the decision and execute it like he goes over to fort. Okay. He's the first guy back, and he is going to make a beeline for Thornton's Skinner. Yes. And that's smart because Thornton is not really he's not going to get to the net. But still you want to get over there and try to complicate things for him and not give him all the time. Because I don't know skinny realizes that Carlson at this time has Darlene beat like that's a key part of this too. And you've gone a little further ahead. But I've got Thornton just about to get the puck Skinner about to start on him and Carlson is a full stick like the head of Dolly. Okay. Well, you can you can go a little further ahead Skinner gets near to Thornton. And there is over. I mean, there's a shot here where Carlson is pavilion. The circles the past is on route Skinner has almost no chance to block the pass. You're talking about two of the greatest players ever hear and Dolly is beat. That's right Dalian is what Astrid or more behind Carlson and the past is on the way goalies ready goal probably expecting the past. There's nothing else here. But it's going to be Carlson for almost a tap-in. Darlene is doing something very smart because the way the video goes surprise right lane is doing something really smart. When they're coming through at the blue line. He appears to be closer to Carlson, then he is when he starts to dive. And that's because he rather than just chase Carlson. He's chasing to the spot where he thinks the past is going to go like he he'd getting the Carlson isn't gonna matter. Like that is over. He can't catch Carlson. I think he realizes that a lot of guys just try to chase Carlson to the point where they can disrupt Carlson, I'm gonna get that's my man three-on-three get a guy I'm going to try to get my guy and Holcomb or slash or do something to disrupt this play the hell with that says dallying like a as soon as he gets into the buffalo zone. He starts slanting away from Carlson in more towards where the past is coming from it's subtle. But it looks like he's losing ground. But it's just the angle a he, oh, he does lose some ground because he doesn't make a straight line. Line for Carlson. He's he's giving up ground to try to make it up to get to the pass. Okay. And we're in delay too. So I hope this is going not terribly. I just tweeted a still shot of it. We've got three thirty eight left and the puck is almost two Carlson. Darlene is now full dive like he's not sliding, right? He is he is off the ice except for maybe as toes and the blade of a stick. And I just tweeted this picture with the words, see the puck. The puck is on. What's this even called the hash? Mark. The puck is on the line. The left of the two lines outside the circle. Right. That's yeah. You can kind of it's hard to see it. But the puck is there Carlson is braced for it. Darlene is just like full. Now, remember, this what five seconds ago, literally was an outlet pass for thorn for a breakway that he blocks. And then he can't collect the rebound. And here comes Erik Carlson blowing by them. Eric carlson. Right. So we are still at that point dallying after a top what you said, full dive. And this puck is going to hit. What like the heel of his stick right incredible. Yes. Enough. I mean, that's incredible. Yup. I think to make the decision that he makes we just stopped at the exact same moment. There you moved again. I gotta see now that he deflects it, right? Because the puck does get to Carlton's rights gate. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. He just gets it with the heel of his stick not cleanly necessarily. But he disrupts it like it. It doesn't go. You know, Joe forton is obviously gonna hit Carlson on the tape with that pass. I mean, there's just no way. So okay. I'm thinking he deflects it. Yes. Okay. But he doesn't block the past it. I mean, he he just he disrupts it. Yeah. So then the puck hits Carlson the right skate. He flies by like he doesn't stop to. He's done. He's going to loop around. Darlene is back up on his feet already behind the goal line. Right behind him looping around. Joe you're looking into this to how much of it does he get if any Delina pass just nix it enough where it goes from to the stick to Carlson scales. Maybe like a six inch difference. I I would like to point out by the way that Darlene goes from on his knees at the top of the crease to upright and skating at the Redline turned and hurting where the puck is. All right. It's so fast. So yeah, it's the heel of the stick that the puck behaves like a puck that went out. The you gotta with more of the blame. You would never get the Carlson, but he gives it with the heel. And it just disrupts it and instead of being on the tape. It's it's added skates. Is it also like is it purposeful that his whole stick is not in the is? He can can you just not physically do that. He's diving and his stick is out in front of them. And it's just not going to be the whole thing on the ice at that. Because of the physics of it like is going to be the blade is on the ice. I think so. Okay. So now it has hit Karlsson Karlsson's looping around. And it's our turn. Yeah. And for a moment, you might think Carter Hutton is going to go for a ride. He's gonna he's gonna guess we've got to sharks behind. Well, almost behind him Thornton is not quite behind Hutton. But he's way off and Hutton looks. Like, I got him about do explode out of the crease and go for a walk. But instead he just sorta chimps in a little bit. I think is what happens in Stockton comes in and takes it. Right. He actually he doesn't even touch doesn't even talk doesn't even touch. He just ignores it. And he c- he he makes a move, and then he stopped and soccer hoops in and takes you guys know what you're doing. You're right. You're fine. Dow lean is now like he's he's in the corner. Darlene is in the corner Skinner is up ahead of Subotica..

Six regulation. Losses is tied with the lightning and the predators and Colorado for the fewest in the NHL nine in a row three know in shootouts all within that streak. And came, you know, interestingly enough with his reputation traded there at the deadline and was good right away for them and good in the playoffs for them and they committed and if signed him to a seven year contract, and so he's a shark. He's a shark shark shark. Yeah. Right on the sharks shark. So he went to the playoffs then last year for the first time. Yeah. That'd be right. Coming up on six hundred games.

Seven o'clock base off this Friday night on the home of your Seibu cable. Every single week. Laugh this. He's a Dave Sinclair Lincoln afford sports open line. Nothing's plenty of I want to go out there and get embarrassed on Monday night football. America's voice. Welcome back to the Dave Sinclair, Lincoln and Ford sports line. Chris Rabi with you on KOMO. Oh, ex John Yati or Molina and major league baseball are in Japan for a series of exhibition games that start this week and continue over the next week. You can catch some of the games on MLB network and last week as he packed and got ready to head overseas. John breviary joined us on the program. So the packing has actually already started. I am in notoriously forgetful person when it comes to important packing items. So I have done the best that I can to start a little bit early. Because I feel like, you know, if I forget, if I forget something, and I'm in Japan, it's going to be a little tougher for me to get my hands on it. And if I lose something, I'm here because you don't have like, you know, while she and Wigan, Andy, those guys helping you pack up, right? I don't I don't they're at their help. And I don't realize that sometimes until I get to be around him. So it should be good though. That's awesome, man. It'll be cool to watch. How did this come about your involvement the invitation to go over there? And what was the the thought process behind it? Are you a a well traveled, man? Was this something that was really exciting. When you got when you got the chance, I would I would like to be a well traveled down. So this is definitely adding to that to the list of of world places that I'd like to get to. But I just got a call one day a little bit before the end of the regular season. And it was from the MLB PA. They have been working with major league baseball at Trump put together a team to head over to Japan. And the cardinals were okay with me doing it. And I was okay doing it. So I said, yeah. What the heck let's uh. Let's try it. I love t. And you know, I got come on and thirteen different shades of green. So I may as well may as well get over there and experience a real thing. And I'm sure that you might need an extra suitcase to bring back some of what you might buy over there. If you've got time to do a little shopping. Yes. Yes. So I'm actually packing an empty suitcase. It is I think it's a pretty good idea. But we'll see if it if it becomes a waste of space. But yeah, I plan on getting my hands on on some neat stuff. So we'll say it's a it's a pretty great roster guys from all over major league baseball, no yachties on the roster. He's already been travelling all over the place kinda cool to be able to interact with some other guys. I was talking to stubby Clapp last night John about coaching out in the euro-zone fall league. And just a chance to you know, have guys from other organizations kind of mingles spend time together play with each other. And and kind of experienced things outside of their own clubhouse. Yeah. You know, that's something that I haven't had a chance to do before. So I, you know, I. I'm not really sure what it's like to to be sitting in that kind of situation. You have some guys are in the the world baseball classic or whatever it may be. But I think it'd be really neat experience to, you know, meet up with some like minded folks that maybe we're on some other teams and just kind of see. To see what their day to day as I can see how they operate on baseball field. And and have a little bit of fun doing it. You know, especially bam somewhere where I don't. I don't think people travel too often. For baseball. So you own KOMO knows have you been to Asia before. I wish I wish I'll come on. I'm trying to convince people that I got a good collection gone. But it's really you can when you when you come back. I I can imagine you rolling into the clubhouse in Jupiter potentially clean-shaven with the KOMO is the beard still going right now. It is. So you know, it has been customary the past few years for me to, you know, bring the access to it and get rid of it to prepare it for the next year. But since the. The season isn't really over. I you know, I guess because it's the rest of the MLB regular season has ended. But I still have some games within this calendar year. Yeah. So I thought let's keep it for a little bit. And I'm hoping to do some fun stuff when I'm over there with the beard. I don't want to give away too much. I would like people to tune in and find out, but I would like to have a little fun with the beard went over there. So we'll see how that goes like scaring people who haven't seen something like that before. Maybe not maybe not so much the scary stuff since halloween's over. But just unlike some fun tacky things to see what kind of shapes I can come up with. I like it. What? And they giving you an idea kind of are you gonna have time to go around and cites the and do stuff to do they take you guys around? I imagine there are some allegations outside of plane and who's in your traveling party is your wife going over with you. Yes. Yeah. Make it for for most of the promotes the trip. It she'll head back a little bit early. But from the itinerary that we got it. It's a little TVD right now, not everything is set in stone. But it looks like there's going to be a lot of opportunities in the mornings before the games to check out some of the sites, and I I think they may have a whole tour bus thing setup for us instead of just recommendations to make a little easier for forever, one to see the sights, and and whatever it may be on definitely looking forward to experiencing a little bit of what what Tokyo and Hiroshima and Nagoya has to offer because you guys are in what three cities. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. We land in Tokyo play were there are in Tokyo, the longest I wanna say five six days, that's a double check. And then we go to her from a for a couple of days and go after a couple of days play some games there. So yeah. Yeah. I know the games will be on MLB network, which is really cool, including live telecasts November ninth through the fifteenth. What do you do physically obviously, the season ends like a month ago? And I know it's exhibition, but you're still going to be throwing and again, even though it's exhibition. I imagine some of these teams are playing against in some of these crowds might be might be pretty ramped up. What what do you do preparation-wise? Do you start? Some light throwing d- do something to get your body ready to maybe. Activity in a time period that you're not usually being this active. John. Yeah. Yeah. There's definitely I definitely never had to throw a baseball this late into into the year. But it's been a pretty simple process. You know, I just I maintain the throwing and pretty shortly after the season maybe a week and a half or so I started getting off the mound. Again, you saw light bullpens and from there working into it almost treating it like. Little bit like spring training. You know, prepping for prepping to play games and. Yeah, even though they're exhibition games. Losing fun and not doing. Well. It wasn't fun. So even though it will be a blast to the over there. And they do a lot of a lot of stuff that I really enjoy. It's not gonna be as fun if I'm giving up dinger's left and right. So I wanna stay locked in and be able to perform over there. John breviary is with us. What's this season? Been like, obviously, you guys were in it right until the very end, John. Another disappointing end of the season. You watch any of the postseason. Do you get away from the game for a little bit to spend time with family? What's the last month been like? It's definitely a little bit of a it's a separation from live baseball. I will check the box scores and all that stuff. Yeah. I still love the game. So I still kinda wanna keep keep tabs on it. And if you know at all even watched some clips of strikeouts or something like that or guys hitting home runs because that's always fun. But it's definitely a time. Like this part of the year is a good time to unwind a little bit. Let the let the stress from the season just kind of get as far away from me as possible and start prepping for you know, for next year in my case, you know, prepping for Japan and then next year, but but it's a good time of the year to sort of reset the clock and and figure out what to do moving forward. You're always from our standpoint a media standpoint of very thoughtful guide you reflect on on your past season. I mean, the great numbers, obviously. And especially what you did strikeout. Wise out of the bullpen for the cardinals last year. What really I think a lot of guy. Is did out of the bullpen amid some uncertainty and some injuries. How do you look back on on your twenty eighteen John? Yeah. Well, I appreciate and it's interesting looking back. You know, looking back as kind of a fun thing to do at the end of the year because you get to take the season sort of as an aggregate and figure out what needs the most attention, whereas NC's, it's you know, a day to day adjustment thing. And and it can be really hard to grab onto something consistent. So I always loved to just taking the cardinals. Do an excellent job helped me out with us to anyone hope anyone out with that. But I always love to just kind of see what my what my biggest flaws and biggest strengths were throughout the whole year from from start to finish or even break it up, half, half and half. And then kind of write a plan. You know, there's you're not getting better if you don't have a direction to go in. So I to try to figure out what I can do better. And then set up some steps to execute that as best as I can, you know, when spring training rolls around hope, I've met all the right moves and. And I've gotten better aside from preparation, tea and planning a KOMO collection. What's one thing you like to do during the off season? It maybe would surprise people. Oh, sometimes I liked doing the offseason might surprise people will hopefully full of surprises. You know? I I like to keep folks guessing I am. Well, this is along the same lines as t- because I do very much enjoy bring my own leaves. But I also gotten into the cold brew coffee who and I have taken some steps on a terrible coffee bean grinder. I cannot for the life of me get the consistency. Right. So I'm gonna need some help there. But that is something I think that I have a blast doing just kinda and you get a little bit of time. And it's early in the morning and the sun's not quite out yet. Get some time to yourself and trying to make the kitchen smell good before ruin it by burning my breakfast. Best cold brew in Saint Louis found. That's a good question. I I have very much enjoyed called these coffee. I walked by the the downtown location and in city garden I walked by on my way to the field. And they do a tremendous job with our coffee and an even better job with their with their tea. So that's a that's a go to spot the past couple of years. I've loved that. Yeah. I spend far too much money at crux in Jupiter. I live right around the corner in one of those condos, and and that's pretty strong as well. That'll that'll kick start in the morning. We'll run into each other quite a bit there during spring training because I feel like I lived there. Sometimes do Jonah, I know it'll be an unbelievable trip. And I know that fans will be excited to get to watch a little a little live baseball on MLB network coming up in a couple of weeks on. The all star tour as you guys. Go over to Japan have fun over there, man. I hope you guys have a great time you and your wife. Hope you come back with with many KOMO knows we might have to get one signed in hanging up.

"He didn't make sense you weren't getting joe thornton where else were you going to go and you wouldn't even want joe thornton no not at that age yeah i heard the o'reilly stuff and you thought okay well it's a possibility and who are you going to give up i didn't want them to give up robert thomas the signings of tyler bosak and david perron on day one of free agency everyone was ticked off i loved the moves great moves i think people were ticked off because they're like all right that's it big blockbuster move is signing david perran and i understand all of that but look you needed to you you were missing speed which i don't know if you get speed with bosak and peron but it's an upgrade over burgling in boca who were still on the team at the time i understand that you needed a third line center or a second line center bosak was better than patrick bergelin statistically and you needed a different atmosphere in that locker room and you got to right hand shots on a team full of lefties that's a big deal but how much do we talk about last season about how the locker room needs a change of needs an uplift why wouldn't you bring in a guy who just helped the team and its expansion year to a daily cup and i'm excited i know this is peron's third stint with the blues but i'll be darned if we don't get a different david perron this year because of his experience in vegas and if he can bring whatever intangibles that he will that he accumulated over the year and here's the thing i get it i get intangibles people don't like to hear that word the numbers and to be completely honest he had a great year but still not that much difference statistically than what he's put up before the numbers he's put up before with ron you kind of know what you're getting but man what he went through last year was really was a once in a lifetime experience aside from winning the stanley cup might have been the best thing that could have happened the best thing that could happen yeah i don't i don't question that at all so he was an upgrade bosak was an upgrade alike boesak lot brought so much to that toronto and he's a defensive guy he's a guy who can win faceoffs he's everything that you lacked last season so there i was like okay i'm fine with this and then doug armstrong pulls off the best move that i've seen from general manager since the wayne gretzky trade to saint louis and the brayden schenn for your oh yes sorry yeah that's true okay this one to me though it might be better because not only did you acquire a player who is in his prime twenty seven years old you got rid of players who were the butt of jokes when it comes to saint louis blues fans they struggled there's no doubt you saved cap space and you acquired a top center all in one move i mean the fact that you traded patrick bergelin vladimir so boca take thompson who when it comes to prospects he's below kosten cairo and robert tonner was a disappointment if teach thompson has a better year if teach thomson blows it out of the water last year i don't know that this trade goes on don't think it does look like thompson looks like a number two center last season he doesn't get traded but because he has such a promising outlook i think that's why buffalo wanted to find him this is so interesting because thompson had that precarious balance of he still has potential but man did last year raise a bunch of questions borderline potentially it's borderline potential i mean being sent down to the ahl twice tells you a little something i mean here's what i think is more telling than anything having your effort questioned yeah as a guy trying to cement his place on a roster trying to make the team as a youngster to have your effort questioned the coach in public that's not a good sign so that move in itself was impressive now look getting ryan riley was great but keeping all of those prospects may doug armstrong look like a genius and do you know what bergelin has done a.

"Through your career little bit because you've had quite the ride in a lot of different places let's funny because we were kind of rival reporters out at your the beat reporter in toronto for the score and i was doing the same for tsn and a little bit of anchoring with them and we would see other out in spring training and all the stanley cup finals and world series and we sort of trying to get the scoops on each other it was it was quite a scene and now here we are i'm trying to think back to the first time we met i don't know i don't remember the specific i actually remember the first time i was working at the score and i went out to calgary to cover a flames game or something like that and you were there you worked locally in calgary you went from suzanne marina calgary right my first job was it was joe thornton draft year they had a heck of a team joe thornton man up to see that guy raise a cup one year because he's one of the most likeable guys you'll ever meet and he was just incredible for the greyhounds and they had a nice little run in the playoffs but they got knocked off by manual whole tre and the gulf storm in the postseason and after nine months sainte marie i got this great call from keith pelley saying you like to come to tsn and i was like yes i would and i went out to calgary i was the reporter out there for about nine ten months and then i got brought into toronto in toronto for five years where you and i cross paths a lot repeatedly and had some of our beginning of our friendship began there then i was down to the spn from two thousand to two job the story i've heard is you're at spring training while that one was getting go it right because dwellers your camera guy told me that you would be in the car talking to your agent while you guys were working on stuff is that the way a while series it was the zero.

"Going to be a problem and we may not see backstrom insult either next year or of this team does get to the stanley cup follow member we thought joe thornton we remember joe thornton skated in warm ups for game one of the play offs and he we never saw them they went to rounds and we never saw joe thornton so maybe we'll never see backstrom again tom was nice enough to send me the congo line of crosschecks in the third period last night six cross jackson five seconds i'll read tweet it because it was actually pretty interesting stuff but it really did get very very chippy yesterday and i'm not sure that that's that that really plays into the capital's hands because there's a couple of things here and it kinda reminds me again of the red sox yankees rivalry i keep bringing that analogy up was the dragon the red sox beating the yankees or was the dragon the red sox winning the world series red sox won a world series since nineteen eighteen and after they beat the yankees they've got the gorilla off their back but they still had to go out there when the world series which they did against the cardinals ended winning two more world series after that so when we talk about the bugaboo with washington clearly was pittsburgh as lost nine ten series against them but let's also not forget this capital team has never won a stanley cup the closest they came was twenty years ago nineteen ninety eight when they went to the stanley cup final they went to a conference final in nineteen ninety but take a look at the history of the washington capitals they came into the league with the kansas city scouts with a seventy four seventy five season and easily for the first for the rest of the seventies they were one of the worst teams in the nhl they stunk it will they were really bad they got better when they got you know the rod lang ways and then after that the peter bondra is they started to acquire some really good players in the in the patrick division they were pesky.

"Aides probably something he should have done a couple of years ago when montreal missed the playoffs because price was heard and be wilbur zhiben be the guy that makes though decisions there's a lot of people to believe that he's on the hot seat he can't keep firing coaches eventually got to look at the way the team is built and joe thornton just continues to march on he's he's an ageless timeless player and a san jose sharks continue to impress a year ride in think they make the playoffs one of the games of the day toronto versus tampa toronto along with boston really the only legitimate threats the tampa this game was scoreless forever but tampa gets a couple of goals in the second period and the whole phnom there's so much talk about coocher off and there's so much talk about stam coasts ankle lawrence had a good year for them the thing that really makes tampa dangerous as they've gotta goaltender they were able to take bishop to the stanley cup final in 2015 now they've got vessel levski who is as good a goaltender as there is in the league right now and you put that together with all the things that they've built their with thug with cooper and the powers that be in tampa know right now as we speak on january third clearly the best team elitist tampa and the best team on gene january doesn't always win the stanley cup maverick most times they do not but this isn't some flybynight team that's making some sort of iran this has been a consistent playoff team tampa the only reason they missed last year's because they played a chunk of the year without stam kosef stamp coast play their definitely a playoff team went to the conference foul in 2011 went to the kostanic a foul in 2015 they've got a ton of guys on that team that have been there done that this is no fluke lightning or a good team toronto's good touba tampa to me is clearly better pittsburgh mops up on philadelphia final score their five two one in a lot of young.
