"Actual plot. Look at their expected goal totals. Listen, 24th, but of course he for or whatever. It's like I joke a couple podcasts go like you either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become like an eye test either. But like anyone smart that you would talk to that's like actually like watching this stuff or has like a behind the scenes peak at like some other numbers is like, yeah, one of the handful of best passing teams in the league like they're creating insane scoring giants is because they're not taking point shots. They're trying to get like three passes across the ice before they shoot. And if you do that, you're a volume is going to be low and if you're using that to guide your model, it's probably going to say this team sucks. But they were actually scoring a lot for a reason. Yeah. And that was my only argument. I didn't think they were a great team or anything else. You should see a few teams like this every now and then that are legitimately more efficient in the way that they move the puck as a team to sort of relatively recent examples come to mind for me, but the Winnipeg jets in their sort of most recent contention window. Before Blake Wheeler sort of really fell off, that was a team that, like the blues, was just able to pound high danger areas like their down low passing was just materially better than everyone else. And so even though the underlying numbers weren't super high on them or didn't consider them to be elite, I always thought they were that next level that next tier of dangerous opponent because of the way they did that and I'd say the sharks were pretty consistently a team that profiled like that under in Joe Thornton's sort of lengthy. The tail end of his lengthy prize. Yes. And, you know, all of that said, oh, that said, the one part where I agree with the non eye test, right? And I still remember this. I have to remember this. When Cory Schneider, first published his all three zones now. Like back in the day when they did every game and he had that army of volunteers, right? And I remember you first published that data and I was just looking through it intuitively trying to sort of figure out and I was like, okay, the San Jose sharks are the most efficient team at entering and exiting. Like in terms of the way that the sharks transition with control like they do all the things that we think matter in terms of driving possession. And yet that was one of their down years, 5 O 5, that wasn't one of their 56% what's going on here, trying to figure.

"Was destined to just go to the American League for the whole year, get my minor league salary, and it went into camp, and I didn't have a care in the world. I played the game the same way I did in the preseason games. I actually bought a few times in training camp, and it was because I knew we were going to lose our tough guys in the American League. And I thought, I was like, okay, I'm going to have to fight these big heavyweights in the American League now because we're losing our fighters there. So I was like, I may as well see how I fare against some tough guys in the national league because I'm going to have to do this job in the American League now. And it actually had helped me. So even though I thought I was doing it to get prepared to fight in the jungle and it gave me a job in the big leagues so it worked out well. Hey, you mentioned your beard mustache thing and with Joe Thornton and everybody that's been around Joe has a favorite Joe or a favorite 16 Joe Thornton stories. Do you have one you can tell us? I mean, we've heard a million through his ex teammates before. You got one. Okay, so one that relates to me, it's embarrassing for me too, because then I mentioned this before, I would take warm ups for the sharks and then go down and play and my warmup stall, my stall with the sharks was right beside Bernstein and jumbo. And when you got those two going, it was hilarious. But so I don't know what it would have been. It was probably my fourth or 5th time taking warm ups and I'm sitting right beside jumbo and Bernstein. And I am just there to ask me questions because jumbo's from Saint Thomas and I'm from Stratford. So we had stories about the junior B days with the collagens and the Saint Thomas team and all that kind of stuff and the whole game. I'm just enamored. I can't stop listening and talking to these two guys and when it came time to warm up so I'm late. Like I've got to get ready. And I'm still wanting to be in this conversation with these two and I put the wrong chimp pad on my legs. And I'm only out there taking more work, so I'm not doing anything really. You know, I'm just standing there shooting a couple pucks doing the butterflies and I'm a bit of a knee knocker as it is. You know, I got that my knees go inside. That's how my stratus. So now I got my shim pads, my rights on the left and the left's on the right, so it looks like my knees are even more inverted. So I spent half the warm ups just like standing at the blue line, trying to be as bold legged as I could..

"Welcome all. It's the daily wager podcast, presented by DraftKings, America's top rated daily fantasy app. I'm Joe Thornton ball, but you don't care about that. What you do care about is the fact that I'm joined by Aaron Dolan who's making a serious run at Dan Patrick for most career appearances on SportsCenter. Did you do anything but SportsCenter hits this weekend? No, I had some good ones yesterday. I was off Saturday and by off, you never really off in sports. It feels like. But sports center has been fun and come on, Joe, you gotta keep my head small. I gotta keep my head small. Can't start off a podcast like this. Oh, I say just the opposite, come out swinging all gas, no brakes, nothing but pure arrogance that when you lose everything, just run for the hills and reschedule who's on tomorrow's pod. All right, so let's start with the association. We got a lot of basketball coming your way tonight. We're gonna do some NBA and then some college because there's an interesting card today. We'll begin with one of the marquee matchups. Philadelphia Lange 7 and a half total of two 32 hosting the Chicago Bulls. What do you like here? So I'm looking at the Chicago Bulls first quarter plus two and a half right now. The 6 years have really started out slow. They've actually fallen behind by 20 points and three straight games. I was against the Knicks, the Cavs and laughs game against the heat. I know the most recent game against the heat they didn't have James Harden and whatnot, but I do want to look at the first quarter spread just because the sixers have not started out on the right foot. They're not really hot. They kind of take a few quarters, it feels like to really warm up. The bulls are averaging 27.5 points in that first quarter while the 6 years are averaging 28 to the pretty close there and the sixers are also three and 7 ATS in the first quarter and the last ten home games. They're always a better team on the road for some reason. So I am looking at Chicago first quarter plus two and a half. And I also have to note that if you've been riding this trend of tyrese maxi over is made threes, you have been cashing out and said today at one and a half, you can see it at minus one 35 on Caesar sportsbook right now, but that definitely the juice is going to go up, but he said over his made for use prop in 5 straight games averaging 3.4 made threes in that stretch in two games versus Chicago this season. The last meeting on February 6th, he went three for four from the three point line, but I will mention all the way back in November, which I think is too far, honestly to go back. He did not hit one three, he only had one attempt. But again, I think that's too far to go back, but just so you know the tyrese maxi over one and a half me threes has been caching for people. Max has been a beast. I was doing radio with a couple guys on Saturday and the one was trying to tell me Philadelphia now has a big three. And it's like, all right, first of all, pump the brakes on that. He's been great. But we're not just going to assign big three status as of now. Also, the guy who was hyping it was a Kentucky guy, so obviously it's not much of a surprise that he loves tyrese maxi. But maxi has been nasty. Game number two, Dallas Lang one, total of two 17 and a half against Utah. I'm going to get involved here. I'm going to play the under. Two very slow paces when it comes to these teams, Dallas, dead last and pace this season. Utah 21st, two teams that play very good defense, Dallas 6th and efficiency. You told us 13th. But what I want to look at is the fact that these two got together in just ten days ago, all right? The total was two 16. Now the total is two 17 and a half. So you got to ask why? Well, they scored 223 points in that game ten days ago. But go inside those numbers and look at what happened. Utah shot 54% from the field, which is 7 points higher than their season average. They shot 42% from deep, which is 6 points higher than their season average. Dallas was somewhat similar. 47% from the field, 43% from deed, both above their season averages. What I'm getting at is that it was somewhat of an outlier game. In a game with a slower tempo and two good defenses, both teams shot the lights out, especially Utah. I don't see that happening ten days later when they get together for the rematch. I think there are corrections. One of which is the fact that the total went from two 16 up to two 17 and a half. I see a little bit of value there. So I'll be going under two 17 and a half. Is there anything you like in this matchup? Yeah, I mean, I feel like the total definitely stands out and the popular play will be the under. I do find it a little bit confusing and you made great points about that most recent matchup, but they also on Christmas Day that closing total was two 13 and they flew over that. They're averaging two 29 and a half total points in the two games that they've played against each other, which doesn't make sense because the jazz are 26 ranked in peace right now in the last 15 games while Dallas plays at the slowest pace in the league. So for me, I'm just going to stay away from the total altogether because there's a part of me that's like, oh, this should trend over for these reasons and it should trend under the users. And so I'm going to stay away from that. I'm going to go with a player prop in this one. Donovan Mitchell over 24 and a half points. He scored 33 points in both the matchups against Dallas. That first one was without Luca. And I did like this much better when Luca was still questionable for this game, but some of his player props are posted right now, so I assume he's going to play despite dealing with that toe injury, but he has hit over 24 and a half points and 5 of the last 7. He hasn't hid it in the last two, though. He's been not great in the last two games, so I do think we'll see some positive stuff tonight from dawn of the Mitchell just because he'll have to step up. Excellent. Moving along, San Antonio laying two total of two 35 against a scorching hot Lakers who took down the warriors over the weekend. Maybe the Lakers are back. I'm kidding. They stink. What do you like here? Okay, so this is so unpopular this opinion, but I'm going to fade LeBron James. His double double at no in the last ten games he's averaging 30.6 points. 30.6 points. Sorry, that was a mouthful. And 9.5 rebounds. But he's.

"Play by a tremendously skilled play of both him and sunny. My thoughts were, is it a hockey play? And we can debate that all the way through here, agree disagree. I'm not saying which right is wrong, but father's me is. Is the media? Yeah, the media. I do think they have taken it to another level where they put this kid in a tough spot. And this is what I feel terrible about. Is that my comments have been taken out of context. And almost is trying to pit me in Trevor against one another. That is the furthest thing I want to happen. I do not want to interrupt anybody's play any teams play through comments. If media has disdained for me, so be it. What you feel about me is really none of my business, but it is my business when you turn my words to a kid, a 20 year old kid and put them in that type of spot. And I feel terrible about that. And I've reached out to both him and his coach have had conversations and yeah I don't feel great about that and I hope he does it again quite honestly. You don't have to agree with it. I stick with my thoughts as far as what I think it is, but I wish him nothing but the best thing. I mean, you know, he's saying one thing one week and now it's like all the game altogether, so I don't know. Is this a background? We talk more about torts for the zieglers than we did zieglers for the fucking Ziggler. So I think he's fucking winning. I thought that the most talked about thing was going to be the fact that he was walking out with baby Yoda. Oh my God, dude. That's the fight. Why didn't he? Why was he counting? I'll say this and I'm sure some people are like, oh my goodness, you're gonna spend more time stroking off ziegler than you are pumping the tires of the Nashville predators. I will say the NHL has craved a type of image like zikris is providing to the NHL a laid back surfer dude in the National Hockey League. And something that he's done this year is just having a ripple effects through every league below the NHL. So I don't know. I don't know how we can avoid talking about them, but definitely good for the game. I mean, Friday night, it was Star Wars night for the ducks jokes, and he shows up. Press it with the baby Yoda like, you know, satchel over him. You know what he walks up to the mic. He pushes the button so like the audio noises that maybe yo don't make will get caught on the bike. And he's like, this is baby Yoda. Guru. They call him, like, that's his other name, which is just grew, but he's like, guru. He's like, tonight, who is that now? He's going the game. He's coming with us. I mean, it's just like a childlike fucking innocence. It's hilarious, though, that he just like, it's so good for the game, man. I don't understand. People can't wait. I can't really think of a I can't think of a kind of a laid back surfer type dude that the NHL has ever really had. Joe Thornton? Yeah. I mean, but he's also Canadian and I think there's also like a kindness to him. I don't know why. You were around more so Boston in his early days. I know that he wasn't this hot coming out of the gate. No, but honestly, that's a great call by granny 'cause like when I got Joe's autograph he was like 18 his rookie year and he totally had a spicoli vibe to him not that we say that we don't mean like weed smoke is not just like a surfer chill wicked like relaxed vibe. And that's what ziegler has. That's what Joe had, but he just like doesn't care, man. You know, he's like, hey, whatever. Like, I'm going to go home with his Yoda fucking. I would say Jeff Carter maybe a little. Like, he doesn't do the laid back, like, but he seems to be pretty laid back. I guess I'm thinking of like the hair and the tan. That might be what's happening in my head for the surfer. Was Joe embracing it? Was he, you know, the younger vibe was he being a little bit silly and interviews? No, I think he was probably someone on the shy side because pat bruns was the coach early and I was a veteran locker room and I don't think this is 22 years ago. Yeah, he couldn't show too much personality. Whereas, you know, like what's why we keep talking to over and over again about the new culture, young players, and like, you know, like if you don't let a blog, you doesn't, then just keep doing it. And you know, people keep talking about you. I will say it's probably a good thing that he is playing in Anaheim and that Dallas eakins is it a second tour as a head coach, right? Because they're winning. Of course, winning changes everything, but I would say that probably a decent amount of coaches probably wouldn't be as receptive to how ridiculous it's gotten off the hop here. Is that a fair? And when I say ridiculous, ridiculously good. He's busting out the he's probably done more interviews in this half of season than most guys will do in their entire careers. Yeah, absolutely. And he's like, just as fun loving, bubbly self, and so the fact that the organization and the coaching staff is also embracing it is probably helping for the mojo. So I'm definitely some funny stuff and by the way, I didn't know. I was reading up with both of my stuff. So when he was fired that they talked about like coaches who could be gone next year. I didn't realize barube and Dallas don't have deals for next year right now. Because all the other coaches have been re upped like bednar and, you know, Cooper and all that, but I was surprised by that. Right now it's lame duck coach. That's tough on the mind. Yeah. I mean, unless you're sitting pretty where every time you see a coach go down, you think your dollars are going up, baby. Bottom line is this is the most we've talked about the ducks and quite a long time and it's largely because of this kid. So also, if he doesn't Star Wars night, we may have to get together in Vegas and I read the theater one night while we're out there for the all star. Never see that probably not. Never seen Star Wars. Wait, you know, wait. You never saw the original. And I have no desire to..

"I mean, he's been a pro hockey player for less than a calendar year. What do you mean this is going to ruin him? He's not 27 going back to the miners. He's 23 years old. And I think that patients is never happy with the goaltender. I mean, think about tuka, right? Got thrown to the fire in 2007, 2008 as a 20 year old. He had some good games and some ugly games. He went down to Providence for a whole year, right? He came up for one game. It was a shutter, I bleed against the rangers. I think 32 31 save shutout against the rangers. That's wild that you just. Yeah. Pick that up. I was there. I remember I think Mark savart score of the game went and go. So that's how weird my brain is. But they win that game one nothing. And then you know what happens if he goes right back to the minors and he's there for the rest of the season. It didn't hurt him. He still went on to become the all time winningest goaltender from history and one of has been a two standing cup finals. Patience has never a bad thing. And I think that, you know, the idea that you can't you can't send swimming back to the miners because of a 9 18. It's very bizarre to me, I guess. And also the other thing with rask is that in 2009, 2010 he was the starter, and then he lost the job in 2010 11, and he didn't also have the job in 1112, that talk about mentally, you lose the starting job to an old kind of journeyman goaltender. And he was fine. Like again, I think you're right. The patient's thing matters. It's okay that swimming goes down to province. I would love to see him up in Boston. I think most people in an ideal world would like rask sway it as the tandem. But that's not what the tandem is. It's Omar, and you have the option to send into Providence without having to go through waivers, so fine. What is wrong with that? So the last thing I think is fine. Again, I don't know what the price is going to be. What do you think? What do you think the price is going to be? I think pro rated probably around two two and a half million makes the most sense because we don't know how the hip is going to react. I mean, everyone's saying the right things. The reports have been good out of RAS camp and how it's coming along the timeline hasn't changed much. If anything, maybe it's gone up a week or two, which is, again, encouraging, but you just don't know, right? 34 years old. A lot of miles on them really and I mean, this would be his 15th year in the NHL. I mean, so he's been a pro for a while now. And so I think that makes the most sense, ultimately, again, the cap situation too. He's made it clear that he's going to work with the bruins to find the right number. It's kind of similar to Joe Thornton with the sharks where it's like, whatever you got left, like, we'll find the number that works. I feel like it's very comfortable to that. So that makes sense. And one more thing with all Mark before we move on out of the Omar discussion. I think that it's important to remember with all Mark that when weighing the starts against one another, all marks got the heavier competition. I've said this. Yes. The road game in Toronto. It's a tough spot. Road game against Florida when they were undefeated, tough spot..

"He could run a power play from the top with neat amire when they won the Stanley Cup and years after that. He could be on the half wall. He really could do it all. And now to go down is probably the best player to ever play for the Anaheim ducks. He's well deserved. He broke salones record. Of course, he did it in a humble manner, talking about how solani did so much for the game in Southern California. Excuse me. And I'll never forget. The year the penguins won the cop when I was traded for it. We put it in the playoffs. We beat the president's trophy winning sharks in 6 games. And then we lost in 7 to Detroit. We ended up losing to Pittsburgh. So in 13 games, I think get stuff had 18 points. He was playing close to 29 minutes a game, and he was by far and away through the first two rounds of the NHL playoffs that year, the MVP leader. The cons might winner. That was the top of his game. Oh, dude, this guy, he fought Joe Thornton. I think in game three, off the opening face off, just like the ultimate leader, so good and dirty too, man. This guy little Mark messier in a fucking western Canadian prick. I think he's a Saskatchewan boy. I think his brother played a football. I mentioned that, Regina. And get stuff is just like such a funny guy too. He's always busting balls, real good chirp or funny guy, loves golf would love to get him in a sandbagger. And the interview with him was a blast. I thought it was a great interview. I think that was during COVID if I remember correctly. And an amazing career he's had. I think he's 11 points away from a thousand he'll get that, no doubt, one, two, three on wood. And it was an honor playing with him. Truthfully. It was a guy that you you've heard over and over. If he was in a big market out east, he would be that much bigger within the game. And he really couldn't give a gift to Fox. He's got the gold medals. He's got the Stanley Cup. He's got the world junior gold. He's done it all. Funny you mentioned that playing with him. I don't know if you know I play with him. Yeah, under 17 or something he said, I'm under 18. He didn't make the original team in the summertime. He should have. And then Calgary hitman got beat at a playoffs. I think in the first round, he joined us. And he ended up being the MVP of that tournament. And that was when we ended up winning gold. And, you know, I wouldn't have I wouldn't have that ring if it wasn't for him because he pretty much put the team on his back. I thought you pawned that ring and sold it when you were short of some cash. You're a fucking idiot. He actually sold the ring when he sold the abercrombie clothes in the parking lot. One of the pair of jeans came with The Rain. Why was he trying to ruin my story, buddy? Are you fucking go ahead, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. Go ahead. I wasn't really going anywhere other than the fact that he helped me with a ring, so I'm very grateful for him. And to see that he went on to accomplish everything that he did is no surprise because I saw it from that minute that this guy was going to be special and what a fucking run, buddy. Congrats, got you. Congrats. Talk about talk about the Matthews drag and shoot. You can YouTube and look back at some of gets last. Yeah, check out his highlights too. Not as highlights goals, like the highlights on his head when you see all this beautiful. That's what I love. All right, who is he again from Sopranos? Adi buco. He is a. The frosted chip special baby. Yeah. Well, most so like, he's actually doing the full shade, but yeah, really when he started going bald, he definitely had the ID. No, but before so there was like there were stages to it. It was starting to thin out a little bit, but he was still going with what he thought. He wasn't picking it basically. There's a name for the same boat as him. The man bits when the oilers go further than the flames. No, what do you call it Granada when you pull the hair through and you die it? The frosted tips. Yeah, I said the highlights. I said the highlights. Oh, yeah, boy, they're called frost. Well, boys, you know, they've been a lot of depressing things going all lately, but one of the saddest sites these eyes have ever seen. Occurred in the last few days. Saint Catherine street, Montreal, super 6 burned down. I don't know if you guys saw insurance fire. Screams insurance fire. I mean, that shit must have been on fire. He definitely knows what's going on up there. You little on fire. But no, I mean, it was awful to see it. You know, anytime you see a picture, I mean, they'll fire again as a son of a fucking Jake, you hate to think of a guy's going to work and putting that out. But there was one picture and it was the fire burning out from the top of it. But the super sex super sex and I was still lit up in the Superman colors. And then in the morning, everything was just burnt down, melted, just sad, tragic. People lose a business, but you guys been 17 is going to Montreal has a super sex memory. Just a giant yells, just a giant inferno ends and there's rubble and burnt trash everywhere and sticking up a giant dildo. It's used at super sex that made it through the fire. Yeah. So hopefully everyone's obviously. And hopefully the insurance company can pay out the owners who probably had that fire happen on purpose. Yeah. And finding less it was hell's angels and I take it all back. And if you find my ring, please return it. And if you see business walk there, we're off the road. Email the Chico to count. We'll get back to him. We're off the rails. We'll talk to you guys next podcast. Are we down here? And everyone, thank you. What else you got all right? The other thing RIP to Jerry Remy, who was the Boston Red Sox announced for a long time for me and you went generation YouTube rally. Just a former Red Sox second baseman, he became basically an icon around here, and he battled through Kansas 7 different times and he passed away the other day. So just wear Boston guys, we'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge the passing of Jerry Remy just a huge influence. The remnants. Nobody announcement announces the rem dog. So that and also I was sitting home watching hockey, watching the bruins 9 o'clock Saturday night at my phone rings. It's Wall Street wall. She's like, what are you doing? I was like, watch the bronze. He's like, you want to go to Santa's? I was like, okay. So I do like, this is the most out of the blue thing. I mean, wash your car once in a blue moon, but like we usually text like, I'm like, okay, we went over. I think I ate the most aggressive pizza I've ever eaten in my life. It had sausage, hot pepper and garlic was the pizza at the end fabulous..

"Too to launches. We've had this fellow on the show over four and a half years ago for the last twenty five years you've them crush it as an anchor on. Espn as well as well as called play by play for the frozen four. He's a huge hockey guy in as excited as anybody that the nhl has returned the espn. We'll be seeing. I'm talked puck once again very soon and we cannot wait. Welcome back to the spitting chiklis. Podcast john bucci us. How fired up a you for this season. my friend. hello everybody off. I am on in plumps. This is like persona my age on to be pumped about still working and when you come in the work and the have this infusion of excitement that's a that's a huge gift. There's there aren't many fifty five year old second grade teacher this year on. So i'm i'm really couldn't have the better time it's perfect. I you the point man. Pretty much everything there. You're going to be wearing a lot of different hats season right but almost third longer either. I'm not a little bit of everything. We are going to have a cool weekly show some weeks than one week called the point. Which real excited about our long show on. Espn two sometimes. Espn taken on the road. The all star game. This way to andy. Tennant is r. e. sixty guys great stories. He sixty of the sportscenter featured. He's he's he's the man behind this and so we're going to give the nhl players a great platform to tell stories. Show them off and get mark messier. John tortorella in kevin weeks all kinds of great in-studio people to talk hockey for an hour and the cash. Debut show is october seventh thursday october seventh to talk about the season towards would be there weeks. Emily kaplan talking about some news. So i can't wait that's really cool. It's kind of if nhl tonight. Grew up If any shot and had a baby and child grew up. You always want your kid to be better than you at everything. Better looking smarter to all things this is. The point is at some point is a better than Than the nhl tonight in some ways. So yeah. i'm really do some play by play as well. don't decrease in some information. So i'm i'm really have you mentioned. Nhl tonight and it's it's so crazy. How long ago that was now. But i don't remember. That was the best. It was barry. Melrose was on and ray ferraro. Was it both those guys at different times. Yeah Was air from show one and fired and then of course i think there was a lockout and show started after the lockout and it was berry right from the get go. Ferraro would cut whenever his teams would make the playoffs. You would show up in the spring and be like a guess analysts while he was an active player and then when he retired espn brought him on the full time to. Do you know stanley cup. Stop in between periods stuff and and the nhl tonight. So yeah that was. I mean just two thousand four when we lost hockey. So i mean if you're sixteen years old or younger you've never seen you know. Espn new hockey or nhl. Leonard really probably more life you know age twenty or younger because the four knocking remember watson age. Nhl tonight one am following a sharks. King's name so So yeah so. We kinda missed a generation. So we're going to try to win them back in Of course the older folks style joe and some people kind of straddle it. I'm glad joe thornton still in the league because he was still playing. Nhl tonight was around. So that's kinda cool so yeah We're back and the music spec just got a bump that music exactly. That's all you need. That'll catch on quick with the people who don't know about it but the interesting thing for you is once hockey went away. You're a hockey guy. It's like your true love and in talking to you. We've known each other for quite a while now. It was almost like you saw on the horizon. The possibility of espn getting hockey back. And the whole time you'd have contracts. Come up i mean you had a great gig running sports center and be an anchor but you kinda knew. There was a chance this could happen. Come twenty twenty one right. Yeah i talked to a couple of teams you know in these last seventeen years a couple teams play by play jobs. Nhl met work. You know and i just you know this is still the place you know tend to be. It's hard to lose. Some people can leave the espn. Obviously i couldn't and then i got involved with college hockey. Two thousand six. I did my column. I started writing. Espn dot com column in. Two thousand one did that for about fifteen years or my son graduated from high school. And i wrote a column about watching his last name i felt like i just emptied attack and i had nothing left emotionally and i just felt like for fifteen years kinda poured by hockey soul out there as a parent gonna viewer and so yeah so the college hockey helped kind of keep that alive and then of course you've got the world cup and that was real big bro. Get the call game with nhl players. Not an nhl game. But i call that crazy. North america sweden overtime which was a blast and then then again the frozen fours which are in. Nhl ring so that was kinda cool is be some experience. Maybe what. I'm going to deal with when i call my When i call my sunny gel game and and So yeah so. It's been a long road. Seventeen years always thought he would get back and kind of sought come in the three or four years especially and was pretty confident. We're we're gonna get it but you never know. Apple could wake up run a check for two billion of blow. Everybody else wandering. You know so. I've never really was totally comfortable until the announcing.

Several San Jose Sharks Teammates Don't Want Evander Kane Back on the Team

"Craig, if you can believe that. I feel like that. We've heard that before. Somewhere with Evander Kane surprising I don't know. I guess you know what? When? When he had left to San Jose. I You know, like, okay, so I always kind of wished the best for players. Always do you know if if a guy's got off ice issues or whatever you hope that he can figure it out and You know what I mean and grow from it right? And when he went to San Jose I thought Was good for the same as that he was gone. Um, thank Yeah. But I also thought when you know when he lands there, and Joe Thornton picks him up and brings him to his house. I think, Okay, this is going to be a a new turn for Evander Kane here because he's going to have you know a good mentor there with Jumbo and Other good leaders that they had there in San Jose. And I thought, you know what this could be beneficial for. Um, So here's to hoping that You can you can sharpen up. You know, And then here we are. And so, so Kevin Kurtz has been on our show before yesterday was reporting that Players. On San Jose. We're talking about How they don't want him back. Says the team was trying to trade Kane earlier this summer, a source says, confirming a report from the daily face off. A big part of the reason for the team to pursue a deal was canes strained relationship with many of his teammates, according to several sources, According to one source. The frustration with Kane stem from the general disrespect of team rules such as being late for practices and games. And zero consequences came, which caused ripple effect with other younger players, added the source. According to another source, it wasn't easy dealing with him this season, so We'll talk about another

"Rick tittle. U-turn broke my heart. But i still take you back. You hella fine you hell of fire girl alright. One eight hundred eight seven eight play a lot of times when these teams they get to the finals the world series the stanley cup. Whatever you start to look back and you think how was the west. How did these teams get to where they are and a lot of it is like well. You draft the greek freak. You signed chris ball. Yeah yeah that's true. But i think one of the more enduring storylines last year was a fact. The miami heat won the west. You go how. How did that happen. Well they drafted tyler. Herro jimmy butler but this time around. It's much more shocking. The the phoenix suns have never wanted championship and the bucks did fifty years ago. We'll get to that in a minute. But let's go to the great state of michigan with robert robert. Hey rick very well. I'm out here taking her around and take a little break. And i wanted to pucko sports with ya. Got man pay well open in in the spirit of Of sales sports talk sailing for the first time this week. And i had a great time where you on the great lakes. I was on lake. Saint clair which is considered maybe the sixth grade lake on the east side of detroit in between canada. Yeah yeah but anyway. I was thinking about some of the earlier topics you were talking about. And the comes to my mind the all star game fifty years ago. Reggie jackson hit that home. Run off the detroit in detroit. Nothing tower that was. Can you believe that fifty years go by the way. I just looked up. Lake saint clair. I never heard of it. I had no idea. Detroit was next to a massive lake like that. Oh yeah oh yeah. That's very beautiful over there You ever drive. Grosse pointe. yeah. I've i've heard of grosse point i didn't know is on lake saint clair. I have to admit i'm embarrassed. Did have you ever Driven up to sarnia. Yes and you can go to the antero. Take the blue water bridge over yup yup. That's fantastic over there and like here on. That's gotta point. How geology field trips that we had. If you didn't go on this trip you failed the class so everyone had to go london ontario. That's where joe thornton's from like the the biggest town in canada near you right. That's halfway between detroit and toronto. Kurt that's right. That's right london. That's right yeah. I was in. We actually used to have a An affiliate in saint catherine's. I was at niagara on the lake. Which is right near saint catharines in ontario in nineteen eighty six. Okay i have some family in toronto. So i go there quite often and and believe it or not. I have some kind of vision. I can see toronto as being an olympic city. One day it's just just growing and it's massive and its cosmopolitan and whatnot. That's my opinion. what do you what do you think of those uber's well. There are a lot of fans i love. There's some towns there that actually are finished names than There's a college there called finlandia college. So there's quite a few things. They ourselves They used to do the mind work. They're in the tree Forestry thing century ago when that was big copper mines right. That's its own world up their way up there. Yeah but sports What else can you imagine. The phoenix suns won nineteen game. Two years ago it's incredible to think what it is amazing. How they've turned it around that quick. And i think that could get. They could take it. Maybe you know they're in there. They're in hunt. That's a good thing. I think they're the favorites. You were talking talking also about Drafted in is interesting comes to mind. That goes big name demented they have a signing bonus they might sign pearl upwards of a million dollars right They'll get the these kids they'll get more than a million dollars of their first round. Picks the maury wills then they got about seven thousand and a bus trees need different. You know how. Jackie kind of put on a pedestal. In how you. that's why i think. A lot of the minor league teams have been dissolved. You don't put a guy making a million dollars in the minor league system. You already put him in kind of on a pedestal. That he's going to be in the majors in a short time. Not not a longtime well if you think about it just if you like if you flew in to america with no idea about the minor league structure and you some kind of consultant and you would see all these teams with all these players would say you know what you really don't need this many guys and i could see that person saying you should. You should cut all these teams but when they've been around for one hundred years it's just such a kick in the pants for those communities to get rid of those teams. Your phone's going into it. Sounds like your phone is in your pocket. sometimes. I'm sorry go now you're now you're back okay. Good good good. Yeah so baseball's like that. It was a minor league system. Now it's it's kind of. It's changing quick. But then i don't know if open topic but i was listening to some local sports about college basketball and a transfer portal and right. Now there's about seventeen hundred athletes in transfer portals for basketball and there might be only about eight hundred positions available so that means about half of them their basketball career ending and also in addition. If you if you transfer to a school maybe as a senior you need to do maybe forty credits at that university to get your degree. So maybe you don't even get that either because you're in a hurry to just to play ball and you don't even get a degree so i know it's an open question. I know last week you were talking about. How in aa needs to open up. I agree with that when i was growing up. You got fifty dollars. You were an au athlete. And and all that. But i don't. I don't agree with that but but i think the nc double a basketball also needs to do a sharp.

"I mean, they and you know what They look like If that Syriza's is a game like last night, Montreal's gonna beat them period end of story words that I never thought would come out of my mouth. I mean, honest to goodness. But if they if that Syriza's like they have to skate, they have to keep going at it and what should scare them. And I know we have a lot of leave fans listening. In the area. More in particular. Across the river is is Cary Price look like Cary Price and not carry thrice. I started calling him carry thrice because of his propensity to give up three or more goals. And you know what? He looked like Carey price last night and that that should scare them. That's just scare them immensely. You know, when they already got enough, the pressure of being well made, believes in their head and everything. But, Mac, I want to ask you this is I've been waiting to ask you this all day. If that was you, and that was Corey Perry. Would you have asked him to dance? Because fully knows getting ah lot of heat, like from who Everybody knows it was inadvertent, even fully know, said it was in it from hose again. He From hockey people hawking a lot of hockey people don't know. Don't know. Don't save me like real hockey. People like like like that's a good question was back. People that know the game that because what happened there, and I broke it down earlier is Corey Perry and and Feli. No squashed everything rate there, and even the way Perry sort of like took You took his up becoming, either it squashes everything. It's smoldering the fire. It's whatever like that. Nothing builds up to it. You don't have Cory if Corey Perry wouldn't wouldn't have done that, and it made a bigger deal of it, depending how it is now, if Cory period of the smartest thing and who can you know even it looked like got a few shots. And because it sort of looked like he felt bad, and he started wanted to get the golf gods karma, But, er the golf gods, the hockey gods. Carmen back too much, you know, like To me. That was the greatest thing Corey Perry is ever done as a team player, and I'm I'm exaggerating because he's got to stay on the cops and memorial cups and stuff. But you know what? I mean? He's known as sort of, you know, selfish player and right. You know what I mean? So that wasn't around move that was a respectful The way that they did it. I liked it and I'd like to ask. You know Jody Shelley was on it. It shall not work because hack of a job Who's one of the like the last of the gun slinger, enforcer, guys and stuff, But I just think it just quelled everything down. And then you look Um, because they got the revenge. You know what I mean, like there's nothingto. There's nothing to drive off. And you know what the big thing is Shawn? No fans in Canada. So the fact that there's no fans there that you can't that and that's why Toronto is probably going to suffer more. They play to perimeter where I saw last night. I'm sorry for Are you trying to fans? But I saw that I don't think you can win with the Mitch Marner because he's doesn't have that jam that I see. Like a nick Backstrom have when it comes down to it. Zach Hyman's great inside guy, but they got too many perimeter guys. They're gonna if they're gonna like you said last night wait for that power play and you know Austin. Matt is a great player. But, you know, is he still in which immature to the facto understand that he can't do it all himself and who's going to support him? So I could be totally wrong. This leadership in the fact that you got Joe Thornton in the room and stuff like this might Help. It has way more than it hurts. So Wolf. I know what this team's all about, anyway, so we'll talk more playoffs. Obviously, Boston Washington going at it there the overtime teams, but we're gonna take a break here got to pay the bills. But thanks for joining us here out of Friday night. AM 7 60 wjr I'm and Thomas congratulations to the members.

"Now joe thornton got one point or this in the last twenty games. Joe thornton got one point. Wayne simmons has got three and Piang goal has got four. So that's half of your bottom six. That's never on the board never and then moving guys in and out like we saw nic robertson. Scott saverin played a game. And i think they're trying to get a feel for okay. What could or lineup lookalike. And then guys. I know geyser because i've been on teams like this. You're looking for the new guy to come in and start playing well. They got to wait for netflix. And then they gotta wait for william mainlander so the guys are looking for something. That's not there we'll and then you get sloppy and then you scramble and then all of a sudden you're goalie spring some leaks and i mean it looked jack. Campbell was not gonna stop the puck ninety five percent of the time right otherwise he was the best goalie in nhl history and so now stopping it at a boat idiot and a half percent which is a little low for him. But you've got some issues. And so i would say in the next week or ten days. You'd like to see the lineup. At least stabilize to a certain point and that includes matthews who sat out last game wall. All right when you look at the goaltending ill. There's been so much. Fanfare around jack campbell. Deservedly so many sets a franchise record in wins all dot to use your word leaky Against the winnipeg jets in the first period Play goal goes off his glove. Maybe he was spooked call. Connor shoots in a similar spot. Beats him clean enough concerned that you look david rettig and you go who they may depending on what happens with freddie anderson david rettig all all of a sudden becomes a real big piece. And i'll let you answer that but think about this too. i. I like the story of jack campbell. There's not much not to like but the history of jack accountable and like you. I like being around super positive people. And he is that and then some but in this market in a canadian market in general there can be too much of that right because you amplify the highs but the amplify the lows. You know money against montreal. He comes out and says. I was embarrassed by my effort. Like it's too much of one thing and then lays an egg against the jets in in the first period of thursday's game like i if i'm doing toronto. Pr i'm probably keeping him away from zoom media availabilities for a little bit. Just let things settle down. Okay so couple of things one. I think whether we're concerned about the goaltending or not. The leafs are because they traded a third round. Pick right for essentially a backup goalie right. The uncertainty over anderson's health been very protective of jack campbell's health as well. I think i think it is a concern because there just is uncertainty as for campbell..

Yeah and and the head of the company had heard rumblings about people talking about him negatively. Okay so he calls in my buddy and sits him down at desk and says i want you to. Here's here's the rumor. That i have about these guys who are on my board or something like that. I want you to phone him. Okay i want you to phone that guy. "You can do that by simply saying kay crapshoot finish in the bottom five somewhere. Any one of those five Winning but it shouldn't be a team as good as the new york rangers. That's a you know. Well along in there rebuild now that ends up with a number one overall selection. That's not really fair either. Because part of the idea of the draft is for the week or teams to be able to replenish a. Don't want to see it go. That far were good teams end up with the number one overall selection. Well here's the other thing steve. If you look at the big picture though okay so you see this display yesterday by philly and eyebrows are all going up a whole. Hang on a minute here. What's what's happening now now. We know what's happening. Okay like i said. Even chris collingsworth going. This makes no sense. E just came short of saying they're tanking just came like a hair short of saying say i would never do that. I don't understand blah blah blah but in the big picture stevie when you look back at at at previous years you know where where the draft happened. It's not too often. Cv when when people do look back say five years ago. If you had the same situation with a with a hockey team sort of saying look try your hardest but don't try too hard okay. Got a good position. You don't hear too much of that anymore steve. You don't hear someone go. Oh yeah don't forget. They tanked that game. You know You know what i mean. It's just it's not this. It's not this sort of you know rapid problem right so we look at things and yesterday. So what you're telling me is they. They go from the ninth ninth. Pick to the sixth pick. Yes so i've been seeing drafts my whole life and it's a crapshoot whether you get who you're gonna pick in the sixth round compared to who you're gonna pick three route three three picks later you know so it doesn't. It's not that big a deal to me. It's not so much about where you select it just about the fact that you're tanking at all it. It doesn't really matter to me. What the the. Your incentive is for the most part All i know is if i'm running the nfl roger goodell. I'm looking at two teams. Who went out to play. A game meant everything to one team in washington and they win the division and it also met a ton to the new york giants who were relying on a you know an at least an honest effort from washington's opponent in the eagles and they failed miserably to deliver that..

"Right away okay. So that's all you gotta do. Here is get getting there. The only play okay. We got no time left and we try score. Touched up to win the game right. So what does this guy do. Not only does he do. They runs around with the ball and grounds. It just throws it into the ground. You know that doesn't make any attempt for pass runs at one time himself and it's like what. What are you doing here so to me. I looked at it right away. And i said they're throwing the game right. I don't think that sud feld is out there intentionally. Trying to lose the game I always think these things are driven from ownership or management but The question then becomes what should the nfl do about. It should they. Should they be punishment. Should you get into a situation where the nfl goes to a draft lottery to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the nhl. We see it in the nba You could make a good argument that the nhl draft lottery comes about because of the alexander dig situation way back in the day The sends had an iot alexander deg first overall pick the following year in one thousand nine hundred ninety three and san jose was neck and neck with them for dead last overall in the league and there was a moment where bruce firestone the senators owner at the time was alleged to have implied that he wanted the sense to throw the game that they had head to head with san jose in the rely to reporters around who claim to have to have heard that anyway. This isn't a first overall selection but it's the same theory a team likely trying to improve its draft stock. So what do you think the nfl should do about it. Should they go to a draft lottery. Something's got to happen effectively. The guy went out. There knelt every play quarterback. Just just meltdown. Okay but said well. We can't do that so make it. Look good okay okay. I'll just throw it eight yards into the ground whenever he receivers fifty arts outfield right right. There's just so for whatever reason stevie for whatever reason okay what do you do. So so i mean i make it simple good. The only penalty is you're going to really hurt them with with draft picks. You know So there's no middle ground there right. There's no there's no middle ground saying okay. Well you're gonna lose one of your home games or something i you know. I don't know right there. Well who gives a shit about that. I don't like it. But i don't think the nfl. Unless there's some sort of wording that i'm not aware of in the rule book I don't think the. Nfl is in a position to hand out punishments. But i do think that it should spark change. And i don't want to see them go to an nhl style lottery because The way the nhl went this year was a joke. alexi frontier was the number one overall. Pick for everybody that he was consensus and it didn't go to a team that finished out of the playoffs. Like twenty four teams of the thirty one made the playoffs this past season. And that's a lot of teams and the bottom seven. Not one of them got alexia. Frontier was a team that actually when the playoffs started at a chance at the stanley cup. The new york rangers ended up getting frontier and to me. That's dumb and i don't wanna see in. Nhl style lottery. I wanna see you know. I don't want to. I think you want to prevent what happened last night in the nfl..

"They still got a playoff shot. If they don't if the team loses they can get in blah blah blah blah blah. All that stuff. It wasn't that confusing. Basically washington wins. They win the division. If they lose the giants win the division right the night game the night game by that by that time right anyways. Unbelievable that that freaking game it was sorta of like. Is this a real deal here. Going on with the with the with the fumbles and the and the recovery's and looking like he should have fallen on the ball but he didn't putting in that freakin quarterback. Even chris collingsworth. Whoever that guy was her or was it hurts. Who was supposed to be in there. Is that the guy's name then he. Well here's the story line is story reading. I think that what we saw last night with the eagles taking on washington the football team. Yeah congratulations to the nfc eastern champion football team. Yes anyway The story line is not just washed and winning and winning the division much to the chagrin of the new york giants it is the philadelphia eagles with an obvious tank like they threw that game. They threw that game to improve their draft status. Had they won they would have been ninth since they lost their sixth overall in the upcoming draft. Szirbik move we certainly see management even ownership you. You could put a team on the field. Put your chess pieces out there in such a way that you don't have a very good chance to win the game but it's very rare when you actually see it happening on the field. You mentioned some of the things in the game. The big factor was eagles head coach. Doug peterson putting jalen hurts out there to start. That game was a good thing because people had had enough of carson wentz he had a year and jalen hurts seemed to represent both in the last few weeks and in the game itself a real opportunity for the eagles to do well and he was playing well last night and he pulls him out of the game for guy. I've never heard of coming out of the game but never nate. Nate sud failed. That was doug peterson. Excuse for putting. Jalen hurts on the sideline and bringing in native son failed. He said i think i thought saad fell deserved some reps out. There come all right right barely. Had a look jalen hurts. Jalen hurts deserve some reps out there because he might be the future.
