"Actual plot. Look at their expected goal totals. Listen, 24th, but of course he for or whatever. It's like I joke a couple podcasts go like you either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become like an eye test either. But like anyone smart that you would talk to that's like actually like watching this stuff or has like a behind the scenes peak at like some other numbers is like, yeah, one of the handful of best passing teams in the league like they're creating insane scoring giants is because they're not taking point shots. They're trying to get like three passes across the ice before they shoot. And if you do that, you're a volume is going to be low and if you're using that to guide your model, it's probably going to say this team sucks. But they were actually scoring a lot for a reason. Yeah. And that was my only argument. I didn't think they were a great team or anything else. You should see a few teams like this every now and then that are legitimately more efficient in the way that they move the puck as a team to sort of relatively recent examples come to mind for me, but the Winnipeg jets in their sort of most recent contention window. Before Blake Wheeler sort of really fell off, that was a team that, like the blues, was just able to pound high danger areas like their down low passing was just materially better than everyone else. And so even though the underlying numbers weren't super high on them or didn't consider them to be elite, I always thought they were that next level that next tier of dangerous opponent because of the way they did that and I'd say the sharks were pretty consistently a team that profiled like that under in Joe Thornton's sort of lengthy. The tail end of his lengthy prize. Yes. And, you know, all of that said, oh, that said, the one part where I agree with the non eye test, right? And I still remember this. I have to remember this. When Cory Schneider, first published his all three zones now. Like back in the day when they did every game and he had that army of volunteers, right? And I thought, I was like, okay, I'm going to have to fight these big heavyweights in the American League now because we're losing our fighters there. So I was like, I may as well see how I fare against some tough guys in the national league because I'm going to have to do this job in the American League now. And it actually had helped me. So even though I thought I was doing it to get prepared to fight in the jungle and it gave me a job in the big leagues so it worked out well. Hey, you mentioned your beard mustache thing and with Joe Thornton and everybody that's been around Joe has a favorite Joe or a favorite 16 Joe Thornton stories. Do you have one you can tell us? I mean, we've heard a million through his ex teammates before. You got one. Okay, so one that relates to me, it's embarrassing for me too, because then I mentioned this before, I would take warm ups for the sharks and then go down and play and my warmup stall, my stall with the sharks was right beside Bernstein and jumbo. And when you got those two going, it was hilarious. But so I don't know what it would have been. It was probably my fourth or 5th time taking warm ups and I'm sitting right beside jumbo and Bernstein. And I am just there to ask me questions because jumbo's from Saint Thomas and I'm from Stratford. So we had stories about the junior B days with the collagens and the Saint Thomas team and all that kind of stuff and the whole game. I'm just enamored. I can't stop listening and talking to these two guys and when it came time to warm up so I'm late. Like I've got to get ready. And I'm still wanting to be in this conversation with these two and I put the wrong chimp pad on my legs. And I'm only out there taking more work, so I'm not doing anything really. You know, I'm just standing there shooting a couple pucks doing the butterflies and I'm a bit of a knee knocker as it is. You know, I got that my knees go inside. That's how my stratus. So now I got my shim pads, my rights on the left and the left's on the right, so it looks like my knees are even more inverted. All right, so let's start with the association. We got a lot of basketball coming your way tonight. We're gonna do some NBA and then some college because there's an interesting card today. We'll begin with one of the marquee matchups. Philadelphia Lange 7 and a half total of two 32 hosting the Chicago Bulls. What do you like here? So I'm looking at the Chicago Bulls first quarter plus two and a half right now. The 6 years have really started out slow. They've actually fallen behind by 20 points and three straight games. I was against the Knicks, the Cavs and laughs game against the heat. I know the most recent game against the heat they didn't have James Harden and whatnot, but I do want to look at the first quarter spread just because the sixers have not started out on the right foot. They're not really hot. They kind of take a few quarters, it feels like to really warm up. The bulls are averaging 27.5 points in that first quarter while the 6 years are averaging 28 to the pretty close there and the sixers are also three and 7 ATS in the first quarter and the last ten home games. They're always a better team on the road for some reason. So I am looking at Chicago first quarter plus two and a half. And I also have to note that if you've been riding this trend of tyrese maxi over is made threes, you have been cashing out and said today at one and a half, you can see it at minus one 35 on Caesar sportsbook right now, but that definitely the juice is going to go up, but he said over his made for use prop in 5 straight games averaging 3.4 made threes in that stretch in two games versus Chicago this season. The last meeting on February 6th, he went three for four from the three point line, but I will mention all the way back in November, which I think is too far, honestly to go back. He did not hit one three, he only had one attempt. But again, I think that's too far to go back, but just so you know the tyrese maxi over one and a half me threes has been caching for people. Max has been a beast. I was doing radio with a couple guys on Saturday and the one was trying to tell me Philadelphia now has a big three. And it's like, all right, first of all, pump the brakes on that. He's been great. But we're not just going to assign big three status as of now. Also, the guy who was hyping it was a Kentucky guy, so obviously it's not much of a surprise that he loves tyrese maxi. But maxi has been nasty. Game number two, Dallas Lang one, total of two 17 and a half against Utah. I'm going to get involved here. I'm going to play the under. Two very slow paces when it comes to these teams, Dallas, dead last and pace this season. Utah 21st, two teams that play very good defense, Dallas 6th and efficiency. You told us 13th. But what I want to look at is the fact that these two got together in just ten days ago, all right? The total was two 16. Now the total is two 17 and a half. So you got to ask why? Well, they scored 223 points in that game ten days ago. But go inside those numbers and look at what happened. Utah shot 54% from the field, which is 7 points higher than their season average. They shot 42% from deep, which is 6 points higher than their season average. Dallas was somewhat similar. 47% from the field, 43% from deed, both above their season averages. What I'm getting at is that it was somewhat of an outlier game. In a game with a slower tempo and two good defenses, both teams shot the lights out, especially Utah. I don't see that happening ten days later when they get together for the rematch. I think there are corrections. One of which is the fact that the total went from two 16 up to two 17 and a half. I see a little bit of value there. So I'll be going under two 17 and a half. Is there anything you like in this matchup? Yeah, I mean, I feel like the total definitely stands out and the popular play will be the under. I do find it a little bit confusing and you made great points about that most recent matchup, but they also on Christmas Day that closing total was two 13 and they flew over that. They're averaging two 29 and a half total points in the two games that they've played against each other, which doesn't make sense because the jazz are 26 ranked in peace right now in the last 15 games while Dallas plays at the slowest pace in the league. So for me, I'm just going to stay away from the total altogether because there's a part of me that's like, oh, this should trend over for these reasons and it should trend under the users. And so I'm going to stay away from that. I'm going to go with a player prop in this one. Donovan Mitchell over 24 and a half points. He scored 33 points in both the matchups against Dallas. That first one was without Luca. And I did like this much better when Luca was still questionable for this game, but some of his player props are posted right now, so I assume he's going to play despite dealing with that toe injury, but he has hit over 24 and a half points and 5 of the last 7. He hasn't hid it in the last two, though. He's been not great in the last two games, so I do think we'll see some positive stuff tonight from dawn of the Mitchell just because he'll have to step up. Excellent. Moving along, San Antonio laying two total of two 35 against a scorching hot Lakers who took down the warriors over the weekend. Maybe the Lakers are back. I'm kidding. They stink. What do you like here? Okay, so this is so unpopular this opinion, but I'm going to fade LeBron James. His double double at no in the last ten games he's averaging 30.6 points. 30.6 points. "Play by a tremendously skilled play of both him and sunny. My thoughts were, is it a hockey play? And we can debate that all the way through here, agree disagree. I'm not saying which right is wrong, but father's me is. Is the media? Yeah, the media. I do think they have taken it to another level where they put this kid in a tough spot. And this is what I feel terrible about. Is that my comments have been taken out of context. And almost is trying to pit me in Trevor against one another. That is the furthest thing I want to happen. I do not want to interrupt anybody's play any teams play through comments. If media has disdained for me, so be it. What you feel about me is really none of my business, but it is my business when you turn my words to a kid, a 20 year old kid and put them in that type of spot. And I feel terrible about that. And I've reached out to both him and his coach have had conversations and yeah I don't feel great about that and I hope he does it again quite honestly. You don't have to agree with it. I stick with my thoughts as far as what I think it is, but I wish him nothing but the best thing. I mean, you know, he's saying one thing one week and now it's like all the game altogether, so I don't know. Is this a background? We talk more about torts for the zieglers than we did zieglers for the fucking Ziggler. So I think he's fucking winning. So I'm definitely some funny stuff and by the way, I didn't know. I was reading up with both of my stuff. So when he was fired that they talked about like coaches who could be gone next year. I didn't realize barube and Dallas don't have deals for next year right now. Because all the other coaches have been re upped like bednar and, you know, Cooper and all that, but I was surprised by that. Right now it's lame duck coach. That's tough on the mind. Yeah. I mean, unless you're sitting pretty where every time you see a coach go down, you think your dollars are going up, baby. Bottom line is this is the most we've talked about the ducks and quite a long time and it's largely because of this kid. And I think that patients is never happy with the goaltender. I mean, think about tuka, right? Got thrown to the fire in 2007, 2008 as a 20 year old. He had some good games and some ugly games. He went down to Providence for a whole year, right? He came up for one game. It was a shutter, I bleed against the rangers. I think 32 31 save shutout against the rangers. That's wild that you just. Yeah. Pick that up. I was there. I remember I think Mark savart score of the game went and go. So that's how weird my brain is. But they win that game one nothing. And then you know what happens if he goes right back to the minors and he's there for the rest of the season. It didn't hurt him. He still went on to become the all time winningest goaltender from history and one of has been a two standing cup finals. Patience has never a bad thing. And I think that, you know, the idea that you can't you can't send swimming back to the miners because of a 9 18. It's very bizarre to me, I guess. And also the other thing with rask is that in 2009, 2010 he was the starter, and then he lost the job in 2010 11, and he didn't also have the job in 1112, that talk about mentally, you lose the starting job to an old kind of journeyman goaltender. And he was fine. Like again, I think you're right. The patient's thing matters. It's okay that swimming goes down to province. I would love to see him up in Boston. I think most people in an ideal world would like rask sway it as the tandem. But that's not what the tandem is. The year the penguins won the cop when I was traded for it. We put it in the playoffs. We beat the president's trophy winning sharks in 6 games. And then we lost in 7 to Detroit. We ended up losing to Pittsburgh. So in 13 games, I think get stuff had 18 points. He was playing close to 29 minutes a game, and he was by far and away through the first two rounds of the NHL playoffs that year, the MVP leader. The cons might winner. That was the top of his game. Oh, dude, this guy, he fought Joe Thornton. I think in game three, off the opening face off, just like the ultimate leader, so good and dirty too, man. This guy little Mark messier in a fucking western Canadian prick. I think he's a Saskatchewan boy. I think his brother played a football. I mentioned that, Regina. You know and i just you know this is still the place you know tend to be. It's hard to lose. Some people can leave the espn. Obviously i couldn't and then i got involved with college hockey. Two thousand six. I did my column. I started writing. Espn dot com column in. Two thousand one did that for about fifteen years or my son graduated from high school. And i wrote a column about watching his last name i felt like i just emptied attack and i had nothing left emotionally and i just felt like for fifteen years kinda poured by hockey soul out there as a parent gonna viewer and so yeah so the college hockey helped kind of keep that alive and then of course you've got the world cup and that was real big bro. Get the call game with nhl players. Not an nhl game. But i call that crazy. North america sweden overtime which was a blast and then then again the frozen fours which are in. You should cut all these teams but when they've been around for one hundred years it's just such a kick in the pants for those communities to get rid of those teams. Your phone's going into it. It's changing quick. But then i don't know if open topic but i was listening to some local sports about college basketball and a transfer portal and right. Now there's about seventeen hundred athletes in transfer portals for basketball and there might be only about eight hundred positions available so that means about half of them their basketball career ending and also in addition. If you if you transfer to a school maybe as a senior you need to do maybe forty credits at that university to get your degree. So maybe you don't even get that either because you're in a hurry to just to play ball and you don't even get a degree so i know it's an open question. I know last week you were talking about. How in aa needs to open up. I agree with that when i was growing up. You got fifty dollars. You were an au athlete. And and all that. But i don't. I don't agree with that but but i think the nc double a basketball also needs to do a sharp.

Should you get into a situation where the nfl goes to a draft lottery to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the nhl. We see it in the nba You could make a good argument that the nhl draft lottery comes about because of the alexander dig situation way back in the day The sends had an iot alexander deg first overall pick the following year in one thousand nine hundred ninety three and san jose was neck and neck with them for dead last overall in the league and there was a moment where bruce firestone the senators owner at the time was alleged to have implied that he wanted the sense to throw the game that they had head to head with san jose in the rely to reporters around who claim to have to have heard that anyway. This isn't a first overall selection but it's the same theory a team likely trying to improve its draft stock. So what do you think the nfl should do about it. Should they go to a draft lottery. Pick for everybody that he was consensus and it didn't go to a team that finished out of the playoffs. Like twenty four teams of the thirty one made the playoffs this past season. And that's a lot of teams and the bottom seven. Not one of them got alexia. Frontier was a team that actually when the playoffs started at a chance at the stanley cup.
