"joe shelbert" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain

"Marsh which is is amusing to me because he struggled in pretty much all the main responsibilities for linebacker but he was really good in coverage so he was legit good in coverage his. Pf grade was phenomenal uncovered. So i went back and watched some of the game. And i'm watching. It and i saw him when he was out in the slot. And i'm like yeah he he actually was really good and coverage not so great and other places a so. That's something to keep in mind because the importance of the miles killer. Bruin cash march being used in the slot is the steelers last year frequently would stay with their front seven with a with a three four. Look against eleven personnel. The offense takes off inside guys a tight end or a running back and has three wide receivers and tight end and running back and three wide receivers and the steelers came out. With seven man front instead of nickel. So you have tyson who up front but then either bud do pre tj wa are moving out to cover a wide receiver unless the steelers rotated. Terrell edmonds down kept seven-man front against now outnumbered offense if you've got five offensive linemen one tight end and one running back. You have seven players in the box if the defense has seven players in the box that means you have no help for anyone in that box. You have help for cam for someone blocking cam hayward no help for someone blocking steph onto it no help for someone blocking tj. What or alex smith. And if you keep in the white house tight end or the running back you know the linebackers also coming. So you've gotta devon bushra joe shelbert coming after you those formations worked really well because terrell edmonds is really good and coverage in the slot he can do it and it's just basically cover one at that point mingka's the only deep safety. The you've got the two cornerbacks outside you've got relevance covering the slot receiver and you have. An offense is in serious trouble. Trying to block all the pass rushers. The steelers have knowing that they have exactly the number of people in the box at the steelers have coming that. Can they can come after them. So that's a play that matters. If you're if the steelers don't like their nickel situation the most common response we saw in two thousand twenty when they were struggling with the nickel matchups or when mike helton was injured. And let's say with. Cameron sutton was in the nickel and the ravens. Were running adam and they would try to switch trial. Edmonds down there and that didn't work. They went back to the three four. Look and just put terrell edmonds as their slide and only went with one deep safety and that was minkah fitzpatrick and it gave amid advantage. Because now you can't. You're not gonna run. You're not gonna run against a seven-man front because you have six run blockers. And they have seven defenders in the box they have. They have a front seven. And you have six blockers you can't you can't reliably run the ball even even the ravens win. The you've got lamar jackson back there. So you know you can use the running back as a blocker or at least use him to drive a a linebacker out away from where lamar jackson is going to run the football but even then they had trouble. That's that's still you know the the steelers don't aren't giving you the numbers advantage. You are expecting to get against a nickel defense in the box. So that is an option that the steelers can go with their facing team. That that that will run against them in nickel. Especially if you see cameron sutton as the nickelback and this brings us to cameron sutton and james peer because the current leaning candidates to be the steelers to cover to to deal with the steelers nickel situation is for them to bring. Jane's pierre in have him play the outside. Cornerback and cameron sutton plays inside. Cameron sutton has played the nickel. He knows the job he knows. The assignments with the problem is cameron. Sutton is a coverage specialist. last year. He played all over the place he could play outside. Cornerback could play deep zone. He can play man on the inside he could play zone. He played robber the inside zone robber position but he was a coverage specialist right wherever you put him. You can put him almost anywhere if he's in coverage when you are asking him to defend the run it's not as good. His sense of where run fits are and where he needs to do as an alley defender is just not good. It's not good. He doesn't react to the run. Well he's not a strong tackler and as a blitzer he's not doesn't really bring any threat. If he's the guy rushing your passer you can almost ignore him and let the quarterback. Just step away from him. In dodging hilton was thread on a blitz. Cameron certain much less of a threat. So he's not going to open up the hudson he's not going to have team sitting there. Thinking crap is what they did with my children. They're sitting there looking sail craft. My children common is communist. Play do we need to keep someone at you. I'm gonna keep running back in and then my children doesn't even come. You know it had teams reacting to the defense instead of pushing the defensive forcing issue and making the defense try and catch up to you offenses. Were trying to catch up to the defense. And that's a win for the defense. Every time cameron sutton will never bring that as a nickelback against a team. That goes three wide receivers. Let's say cincinnati and they want to throw a lot and they have a slot wide receiver like tyler boyd. Cameron sutton is a good option in the slot. James pierre outside jean-pierre is a good run defender. He is good against screen passes. He looks more like a joe. Haden my chilton type of player we haven't seen in blitz and the steelers having used him in the slot he is only played outside and in the preseason and practices. He was working outside. It could just be they don't want to overload him and give him extra assignments. Does i think his deals. That really fits the nickel position really well. But he doesn't know it and the steelers have chosen to have him focused on outside cornerback. So he's not really a solution there but that is currently what they're looking at. That's their main option. Unless they add a player in from teams that get cut. Your major option. Right now is james. Pierre comes in for nickle package. Plays outside and cameron sutton cousin to the slot. Win the steelers face a team. That will run on you. When they're in in three wide receiver sets the steelers may have to go with terrell edmonds in the slot. And just keep their seven manfred.

steelers cameron sutton terrell edmonds Cameron sutton lamar jackson Terrell edmonds cam hayward devon bushra joe shelbert mingka mike helton minkah fitzpatrick ravens Bruin james peer alex smith Marsh tyson steph bud Edmonds

"He's better at that are so for me what we're looking at. What steelers debt. As they got an upgrade on roberts blame when it comes to play down and being run stopper they got an upgrade roberts filleting in terms of calling plays and knowing the defense and adjusting to what the at you and they got a guy who can cover and maybe blitz. There's gonna be some interesting things were that we're going to have to see play out like for example. Joe schober was on a terrible defense. Was he targeted less. Because the guys around him were worse than so he was just not the easiest guy to pick on right or roberts. Blame was often hey who he had a target. You're gonna target that backup guy who's never played. Who has you know before last season had exactly one snap on defense and his career so yet he got targeted more are are you gonna see where maybe joe schubert in this defense puts up better stats you know per target. Maybe he gives up fewer completions and so his yards per target. Go down in this year. Maybe we see joe. Schubert is actually a really good blitzer and his his rush percentage in his pressure rates. Go up or maybe we see. That's not a strength of his. And roberts blaine is just a better blitzer. That joe schober. Who knows there are some leeway here that we're gonna have to find out we're going to feel out how schober fit specifically in this defense. Statistically wise like what his productions going to be as he changes roles from from. You know the jacksonville defense to this defense. But really if you watch film. He's very similar to robert splaine. So what you saw the good of robert spilling last year with a little better run stuffing That's what i expect from. Joe schubert this year which is great. That's an upgrade. That's a that's a great addition especially for the for the cost. They got him for so two round out the show into our last little segment here on go through the last rest of the position. We spent a lot of time. Joe show burton inside linebackers. How he fits in devon bush gonna be your number one linebacker if he's healthy. You know there's a chance to steelers really are trying to limit his snaps early in the season because he's not one hundred percent yet i would understand the case or if they just say hey you know what we're we're going to give you a little break. You played a ton last season or give fewer snaps. But he's your number one linebacker eastern over one linebacker show. Joe shelbert is good and coverage but there's people out there saying he's better than david bush coverage in that's just simply not true. Film does not back that up numbers. No back that up. It's just it's not true Joe showers can be number two and he's playing a lot. He's gonna play a lot. He is a veteran of the group. He's going to be that you know the the voice in the helmet. He's gonna be the guy with the green dot he's going to be calling the defense colin adjustments which is good. We need someone who's really good at that. We haven't had someone who's really phenomenal. At that sense james farrior. He might be the best at it. Sense james farrior left and that would be a significant addition to our defense in no other way. is joe schubert. The equivalent of james farrior. That wanted to be clear to say that in case people here that wrong thing. I'm saying joe schober is that good. He's not a but he's going to be the best. Probably you know that that calling captaining the defense. The james farrior dick from a linebacker position. He's probably be the best sense. James farrer left that we have doing that specific job behind him. Roberts he's he's like joe schober and i would not be surprised if they wanna give joe schober to a break. You know it would be probably like in nickel. Where roberts billion really fits in. Well roberts plays a great fit in the nickel defense At at inside linebacker. I would not be surprised to see him there where he can add his blitzing to the pile. Then you have some interesting players behind there. You've got ulysses gilbert the third. You've got marcus allen. And you've got buddy johnson buddy johnson the rookie draft. He looks good. He is more of a thumper he's going to be that guy who can who can mix it up in line take on blockers stuff to run. He's not bad in coverage either at least at the level he's playing now which is kind of the second to third string Players for the other team is what he's been facing and he's shown pretty. Well they're ulysses gilbert. The third loved what he showed as a rookie Loved it his first preseason. He looked dynamic. He got injured. He's a series of injuries. And he has he hasn't really developed and in fact this season you know. I'm still looking for him to get back to looking like that player. He looked like when the steelers had just drafted more. He looked so impressive. I don't know maybe his injuries means he's never going to get back to that ply being that player right now. He's in a battle with marcus allen. Just make this roster bush over explain are gonna make it a buddy. Johnson is is going to be very hard to knock out simply because he is a rookie and he is looking. Really good. Just not quite. Nfl for snaps on defense radhi. He looks like a guy that next year could really take a huge second year. Leap marcus allen. Played really good in very limited snaps against philadelphia. He is not anyone you want to take on a blocker. He is just get swallowed up by blocks but in space and particularly Like a dime back role where he is taking on where he's in coverage on linebackers and coverage in zone. He's really good. He showed some fantastic aggressive defense on running backs against philadelphia When he was in there against a pretty good rookie gain well for For for philadelphia. Who's a good receiver. he did a fantastic job manned up on him really fantastic work. He knows the defense. He's he's got the the i q side down..

"Same were the players involved and their personalities and how they on the team and all that stuff are involved a you can just sit there and look at their fit They would have been better off switching. Vince williams and joe schubert because joe chauve is a better fit in my opinion to be next to devin bush whereas what they wanted was more of a vince williams next two miles jack. So that gives you an idea. Why joe schubert is a great pickup for the dealers but also not the biggest loss for the jaguars because he didn't fit what they needed. So who is joe. Show over whether let's let's take a look at it real quick right Job has played a lot. He's been to a pro bowl and he's good across the board. There's not a lot of weaknesses when you look at his physical profile right when you look at his size his speed agility if you go back to the combine and look at those numbers. He's remarkably similar to roberts fillet. He's the same height they're roughly the same speed agility He's he was bigger. Then spelane coming out. When roberts plane came out of college he basically really needed hit an nfl weight room. And he'd right. So the difference. Between shelbert and roberts d'alene physically and their athleticism is very small schober. It's a bit heavier on his frame. Still i believe now than than Robert spelane is and that helps him in the run defense when you look at his film and you look at his stats. He reminds me of robert splaine. Just a little stouter against the run partly because he's a little bigger right if you look at their coverage stacks even if you look at their coverage stats from last season okay. Schober played a lot more then. Spelane did He was on the field for five hundred coverage snaps. Okay all this just just a disclaimer. All of these all these stats come from sports info info solutions Through their data hub tool. It's a free tool on the web. You can look that up but Joe show was on the field for five hundred coverage snaps where he wasn't rushing right where he was in coverage he was talking to forty. Two times gave twenty eight completions. Two hundred ninety three yards Came away with three interceptions. And one defended pass roberts blame played significantly less. He was on the field for one hundred. Fifty eight coverage snaps was targeted. Twenty three times gave up ten completions. For one hundred seventy yards had one interception three defended passes. Okay what does that mean. Well we can start with Robbers lane was targeted. Fourteen point six percent of his time on the field. Joe schubert eight point four percent us lane only gave up four point six five yards per target whereas joe shelbert gave up six point. Nine seven They both gave up right around ten yards per completion Splaine just had a much. Lower completion percentage against the shelbert dead. If you combine all of that you look at the non of yards. They gave up per cover. Snap roberts plane is point. Six seven yards cover. Snap joe schober is point. Five nine a little difference not ally there And spelane got two more passes went his way. He had one interception in roughly one third the snaps that joe schober got three but explain defended three other passes whereas joe schubert got to three hundred options and only defended so he both defended four passes. Which means blaine had a much. Higher percentage of targets that went his way that he enter the he. He broke up that he actually defected. Another part of splaine game that is considered one of his best attributes is his blitzing right. He does the. Ceo's call hug blitzing where he's on a linebacker that light or he's where he's a linebacker covering running back in man that running backstays in the block. He transitions into a blitzer. It's also the steelers deal with play action if you watch a play. Action pass and roberts is made up on the running back the minute. It looks like a play act like it looks like iran. He is charging that running back. He's going right for him and when he sees at the play action pass. He's still going for that running back. He's still going and they have to break off into coverage if the runningback changes routes Or if the running back turns to like help block someone else you blitz the quarterback if they turn him block you. Then you're match. You know you try. Beat him in and get in there. But that is how the steelers negate extra blockers when you keep an extra blockers to help block. T. j. watt cameron heyward steph onto it by debris alex smith when when you keep an extra guys to block those guys roberts blamed roberts d'alene rushed on fifteen point one percent of pass coverage of a pass plays. He was in on and he had an impressive. I mean ridiculously impressive. Forty two point nine percent treasury. That's incredible when he did a hug. Litz when he was that guy adding onto the blitz. he got pressure schober last year. rushed around eight percent of past about the past place and had a really good twenty three point three percent pressure rate. That's good splaine's better. So in coverage shelbert is a more proven a more reliable guy. The roberts spelane but if you look at joe schober and you look at roberts fling when he before his injury when he was playing his best. Football of two thousand twenty. You're talking about a very similar player. You're getting a very similar player again. Joe show bert is proven. He's done this year in year out and you may have heard The seals are talking about him wearing the green dot calling the defense. He's that guy that you want calling the defense before like. Oh does that mean devon bush. No it just means. This guy is better at devon bush than that specific skill. call the defense colin adjustment. Seen what the offense is doing. He's better than devon bush at that specific skill and really if he's better than he should do it right. Whoever's the best at it should do it if he's better than bush at that then yeah don't why would you have bush do it. Just because you're like oh bush was are. He's our number one linebacker. Well he's still our number one linebacker. Just joe chauffeur's gonna call the defense.

"Of the cutting room floor. First half we went over. What we we did an update on players. I talked about in a previous episode and we discussed a bit about the inside linebacker position in coverage. And how we're going to judge. Preseason basic basically saying. Don't judge devon bush and roberts bullying too harshly for how they played in philadelphia inside linebackers put in situations where they are on an island with athletic tight ends or wide receivers are going to get the they are going to be the mismatch on the field. That's that's not how the defense works in actual games. So now we're going to talk about the inside linebacker position and we're going to start with the big news the dropped during the preseason game at philadelphia and that is the steelers. Acquisition of joe schubert If you if you don't know that the steelers traded sixth round pick. Jacksonville is paying half of his salary for the season and he also redid his contract. Move some money around If you if you want to know all the details of that goto behind the curtain dot com. David dave scofield Those great articles on that he does a great job breaking down how those contracts workout and how they impact team in the salary cap and all of that stuff but basically for less than two million dollars on the salary cap this season which is a tiny hit and a sixth round. Pick next year. The steelers got joe schober for this season. If they wanna keep him after the season there he's got some pretty big numbers is numbers are not small so Yeah it's it's. He's unlikely to be a long term solution unless he is really just that good that they said okay. He's he's worth paying. You know eight million. I think it is for twenty twenty two so for the steelers. Getting joe shelbert. And when you look at the deal people are saying well. Kevin colbert just absolutely flees the jacksonville jaguars on this deal and we wanna look at that. Because oftentimes when it's like whoa. How did we get a guy for this cheap. You end up finding out you know what you got him that cheap because he's just not that good or or you know your your overvaluing them you know. Maybe it's not just the other team undervaluing him. Maybe you're overvaluing him. So let's give why he went to jacksonville. invited fit. Jacksonville has a linebacker miles. Jack who's of top athletes absolute stud in his athleticism and he's also a really good coverage linebacker and he's good at running. Hit football what. He's not great at is taking on blocks and run stuffing. If you can force the play outside he's gonna write him down if you can you know if he's in coverage he's he's incredible really good linebacker in coverage so the jacksonville jaguars are looking at this. We need to pick up a run stop. We need a guy next to him that can take on. Those ron stuffing abilities while still being able you know to be in coverage some and so they went and grabbed joe. Schubert who with the browns had had really good numbers for high tackles tackles for loss. The great you know Pf grades against the run and it was also in coverage. They paid him a big contract to be the guy next to miles. Jack who will allow miles jack to play strengths and really come into his own and be a top tier linebacker. What they found is that they did not get the player. They thought they were getting Basically job is not that run. Stuffer that you know the thing. Vince williams. He's not vince williams. He's not that dude is going to be like. Yeah you know i'm gonna. I'm gonna take on offensive lineman of beat them in the run game. I'm going to stuff a fullback in the whole get off of him and tackle your running back in the backfield for loss. That's vince williams. Right joe schober. Not that dude. He's much better in coverage than than than williams was and he's good run in run defense but he's not a run stuffer. He is not a guy who's going to free up mile jack to not have to to really worry about you. Know taking on blockers of being that guy in the run game so he didn't work out there and he had a big contract and basically the way it was up. There was a lot of guaranteed money for this season. You know when the new the new people came in took over the team. New coaches new systems. Everything you've got a lotta money locked into this player this season that you can't get out from under next season a season after that. His car pay is big enough and he's not worth it to that team. That has now suddenly young. He's not the guy. They thought they were trying. They were trying to get next two miles jack so basically they were going to cut him. He's gone either way. He's gone after this season. And so they were able to dump half of that money onto the steelers and get rid of him okay. That's basically what they did. They dump the player and dumped half. The salary on the steelers wasn't a great move for them. But it's understandable. Now what he brings to the steelers talk about this way all right. So he wasn't the guy they wanted next two miles jack. Let's compare miles. Jacket devon bush and for the sake of argument I'm just gonna let you just consider them to be roughly equal in overall talent. Blessed miles jack is is kind of like eighty percent coverage focus. Twenty percent run defense right. He's guy you wanting coverage every play and not really run defense ever whereas devon bushes closer to balance. He's he's really good and coverage but he's not miles jack level right. He's really good. But he's better against the ryan the miles jackass so even if if we consider the two of them even jaclyn miles jack would be the better coverage guy. Devin bush would be closer to balanced and better at run stuffing than miles jackass. Meanwhile the steelers had a guy. Like vince williams. Who if you're gonna if you're gonna do that. Same kind of percentile breakdown of run versus coverage on defense versus coverage. Vince ways would be like eighty or higher percent. Run defense and twenty percent or less in coverage While joe shelbert is more balanced so basically if before last season both teams had been smart. This has been like a madden kind of franchise..

"As we should joe showed clearly is the talking point. He is what everyone is talking about. That is a pittsburgh steelers fan. Because he's the newest player he's expected to be a starter and everyone wants to know what he brings to this defense. And that's what we're talking about in this podcast. What does joe schober bring to the twenty twenty one steelers defense. We already went over the knowns in the first half so let's talk about those unknowns. what don't we know. What are we still wondering. What are we still wondering. How is this gonna work. So let's go through this. what's good through. What does this mean for the steelers defense. Immense a very broad question. That is a question that is difficult to answer for anyone. What does this mean. What does the the acquisition of joe shelbert mean for the twenty twenty one steelers does it mean that. They don't like their current inside linebacker. Death does it mean. They don't trust player. Like roberts bylane does it mean that. There's so many different avenues. You go down with this. That's a big question. That's an unknown and we probably as fans will never know that answer. You'll never hear kevin colbert or mike. Tomlin give you that answer that they would say well. What this means is that we need but we need better inside linebackers. Our current inside. Linebackers marcus allen. It's not good enough. You'll never hear them say that but another question another unknown is what position is he going to play. And he mean joe schober. What position is he gonna play. Is he going to be the guy that stands next devon bush. What about in. The sub packages is devon bush. Going to stay on the field or schober coin to stay on the field. The i don't know. I don't know no one knows we don't know this because he's only had one practice with the steelers but it's still a good question to ask. Then you talk about that green dot. I mentioned that in the first segment. He's going to get a green dot. In so i think a lot of people expected devon bush to be the guy to wear the green dot based on the fact that devon bush is the player that was expected to never leave the field. He did that before he tours. Acl last season. I'm not sure. I'm not one hundred percent. Sure if he were. The green dot devon bush wore the green dot last season before he got hurt. I need to go and check that. I couldn't find that answer. I did look. I just couldn't find it so if schober it's going to get the dot in only two players get the dot in. They can't be on the field the same time. And that's jerry. The pittsburgh press gazette. That's not me. That's what jerry dulack said when thinking who else is going to have the dot if they're expecting schober to be out there all the time either. Devon bush is not going to get the dot maybe minka fitzpatrick gets the dot. I don't know but that is that that that definitely catches my attention that it's kind of like a red flag for me that green dot it. It means more than just conveying plays into the defense will put it that way. What is this acquisition mean for devon bush. Joe schober being a part of the team. What does it mean for devon bush. Does it mean the devin. Bush is not ready. Maybe his knee needs a little bit. More time i'd said is in our slack channels with the staff people now and twenty twenty one based on the fact that acl injuries have become so common in the surgery that repairs. Those acl's become has become so streamlining so advanced. There's people out there that think. Oh these acl. We'll be back. It'll be fine. That's still a major reconstructive surgery in the knee if you know anything about the anterior cruciate ligament which is what the acl is. It's really important. We'll just put it that way without getting into the physiology of the human body. It's really important. And so when you have that completely torn and has to be put back together one way or another it takes time in every single human body responds differently to the recovery process to the rehabilitation process. Now he followed devon bush on things like instagram. You know he's worked hard. He has gone to his rehab and he's been there working and grinding did sometimes. It just doesn't respond the way that everyone else does. There might be someone that goes in nine months later. They are back in their one hundred percent. Someone might take a full calendar year. The good news devon bushes if it takes them a full calendar year. He'll be basically back to good or where he was or close enough to where he was around week. Five or six. I can't remember when he toured last year. So is joe schober coming in mean that bush is maybe not fully ready. Is he not fully back or are they going to put devin bush on the snap. Count it's possible with schober On the roster. It's possible it's possible. They might say. Hey devon bush. We think he's healthy and we think he's back but we need to really keep an eye on how many snaps he plays. The one thing we don't want to have happened is to reenter injuries knee. 'cause with with bush and show bert. You're talking about are really good dual but when you're talking about bush or just show bert or just bush. That's a little different. So maybe that's what it is but these are unknown. We don't know we are not sure in the last unit. Some people thought that joe schober was going to come in and just be quality depth. A a guy that they bring in. It's kind of like well. He's a good. He's a good backup in case something goes wrong. Or what if this happens. Or what if that happens. No mean if sunday's practice at heinz field which is close to the public and it was non padded is going to tell us anything it's at the steelers plan on throwing joe schober out there as soon as possible when he's ready. Let's get him out there he starting and so that means that that would kind of be a demotion for robert. Splaine he'd be bumped from the starting role back to the backups of the twos. And that's where. He ran on sunday when they did their seven shots. In the eleven on eleven it was. It was a roberts. Poulain buddy johnson buddy johnson the rookie moving up the ladder. Splaine moving down the ladder.

"Told you there wasn't going to be a recap podcast on sunday yet here. I am the pittsburgh. Steelers had a non padded closed practice early sunday morning and early ish before noon and there were no fans in the seats. We myself dave. Scofield had no idea what they were gonna plan in terms of what the media was or was not going to be able to do and they were giving us a fans a livestream of news. And so when we saw this. Dave and i said wow we're going to have enough for training camp tracker for my recap so here. We are on sunday with another day. Sixteen if you don't count the date of his reign doubt for the pittsburgh steelers and these training camp podcasts. So let's get right to joe shelbert. Joe show ver the recent trade acquisition by the pittsburgh steelers was there in pittsburgh for the very first time and he was not wasting any time in the steelers. Weren't wasting any time getting him involved. And what i mean by that is they had him out there. Starting immediately when the team got into seven shots. It was schober out there. With the starters in the second-string we'll talk about that a little bit later but that's not really the point here. The point here is that a lot of people are really wondering what showbiz role is going to be within the defense. Is this somehow. Damning of devon. Bush is devon bush. Not physically ready. Is he still working his way back. We don't know. Are they going to limit his snaps early in the season. We're talking about devon bush. We don't know but the one thing is for sure. After the practice the steelers media got to ask schober some questions. They made him available and schober told reporters this is per prior. Espn news dealers inside linebacker. Joe sherbert says the plan is for him to play dime. Backer and mac backer also where the green dot and call the place. Where the defense. Now this is something wanted to go back and check. But i'm pretty sure that was devon bush's role in the past now in case you don't know two players on the defense can have the green dot on their helmet however only one can be on the field at a time so that makes things very interesting then also after practice trail edmonds said that schober was calling plays already at the first practice. So that's really intriguing to me the fact that schober on day one that he's in pittsburgh is already out there calling plays but again it leaves a question. It makes you wonder how is schober going to impact evan bush. If this is a situation where the steelers say look at the beginning of the season. We're really going to try to scale back to bush. we're going to have him on a snap. Count so to speak. Then it makes sense. It makes perfect sense if they say that schober is the guy that's going to be playing next to devin bush. The nella mia devon bush is not going to have the the green dot on his helmet. That will go to someone else. Maybe someone like mega fitzpatrick who never leaves the field or someone of that like. I'm not sure what they're going to do. However it just leaves a lot of questions in not a lot of answers. We'll get those answers eventually but as of right now it's just a lot of questions let's get started with the rest of the news and notes from sunday's practice seven shots as they always. Do they put the ball. The two yard line seven plays see who wins the defense when seven shots. But it's a little bit more competitive. They had dominated seven shots last two practices but they went for two. Three rothlisberger started zero over to then hit. He had deontay johnson short to score on his third rep. Then dwayne hassans came in Went to for two touchdowns rico bussey both times so the steelers offense scored. Three times was defense that prevails for the three. It seems like whenever there's a scuffle reported steelers training camp. Whenever there's a scuffle you can expect big. Dan more to be involved any was again on sunday. There's another scrap during live drills in yet. Dan moore was right in the thick of it. He's got that edge. He's got the the aggressiveness that adrian klemm preaches for his players along the offensive line. That's for sure he's turning people's heads. I'll tell you that right now. Watch out for dan moore junior. Not saying he's going to start the season but he might be making waves and might be in the lineup. Before you know it zach. Banner was back a practice in. This was actually good. To see the offense of line everyone except for kendra green was there was where they expected to be so in other words. Chew chor fort left. Tackle kevin dotson was running with the starters again at left guard they had. Jc has an hour center with kendrick green. Not at practice again right guard. You had trae turner who had had the day off on saturday in anzac banners back. But that's not what this is about. Zach banner is that canada. Put zach banner in motion during a plate at. This is eufaula. Jeffrey benedict's film room work. He did an entire film room on the offense and folk a whole series on the offense in focus talking about matt canada's offense in one of the plays that illustrated was his time. It pit against clemson when mad. Kinder's offense really made the clemson tigers. Look silly it was. He had tackles moving all over the field. He had several different versions and shifts. You might see some of that coming up in zach manner going in motion yet. It sounds shocking. But that's what matt. Canada likes to do buddy johnson the rookie inside linebacker. He's been playing very very well. So far this preseason believe it or not he kinda got a promotion with bush and schober in the as the first starting inside linebackers. The second group. Roberts bylane and buddy johnson. So that means a buddy johnson although it doesn't show up on the actual depth chart looks like he has leapfrog players like marcus allen. Leapfrog someone like ulysses gilbert the third in his now with the second team defense. Good sign for the rookie at a texas. Am we spoke about the offensive line being back. And then lastly the two minute drill. They ran the drill. I believe they started with the ball at the forty yard line. They admit fifty some odd seconds with one time out They did not have been rothlisberger. Do this drill. Dwayne haskins was working with the starters for the first time it really encamp. He'd see stirring passes to klay pool and smith schuster. This is what we all wanted. We all wanted to see. How is dwayne haskins going to do this. And so haskins working with the ones rebounded from back-to-back back incompletions dismiss us to to complete three straight throws and finish. The two minutes of the touchdown. Klay this per brook prior of espn mason..

"Was may watch So right so basically eventually showed up was big into their plans and they're like he was like i don't feel it anymore so i'm not gonna play and they were on a mad dash for linebacker and joe shelbert is good. He is kind of expensive Seven and a half million dollars. So that's what the steelers pay now. And that's why it's a late round. Pick and he is a tackling machine. He does have great numbers. But i think what's going on now is you're gonna see the jugglers defensive. Probably look like the ravens defense and they have good linebackers. Generally with the ravens. But they're not guys that cost a lot of money like they believe they can get it done without high priced guys. They invest a lot in the front pay. A lot of defensive tackles but not a lot of linebackers same organization that leads. Cj moseley go because they don't wanna franchise and like i think that's more would this is plus. He's an old regime guy and you don't get the benefit of the doubt if you're an old regime. Guy in urban beef is because he announced the drill winner like vermont on that thing he was like joe chevron just lost again any costs seven million. Is that happened down there or is it just business. I think you're gonna see. I don't know for sure that urban fell out of love with joe shogun. But i do think you're going to see some interesting and fast. Declarations decisions by urban meyer. Because that's kind of this. I would imagine cut down day and the next couple of weeks for the. Jags are going to be interesting and usually see a lot of turnover. You just don't usually see it in camp. Usually it's like march. April is when you see the new coaches make there impact. I liked bourbons finally got because remember his big problem was he didn't get a chance to meet a lot of the guys he's bringing him before he even signed him now. He's getting that guy's not on the edge. Get him out of here. He ain't bout duval get him outta here as well. Hopefully it works. If it doesn't obviously people compare him dow sabin was when he wants to the nfl. Many other end Also chip probably chip had some successes between portray. No i mean he had workout at all by the way down here in atlanta. I from what i was told. There was a allegedly players that were going to fight portray no actually. Yeah whenever he was at. Allegedly these are just alleged things like a. You guys aren't allowed to speak on the bus. Between trina got flock. More kids than you do. How about you. How would you get the hell out of your go ahead. Connor two questions one. Will we see nicky on the sideline with a headset into what six son of a bitch. Nfl network puts this leon on a massive chair last night. Yeah let's before we get to the caserio. Let's talk about sicily. On the way. You guys are handling. Him is unbelievable he should be filing every grievance. He can boston file. You had him sitting in the same. Chair william mcginnis sitting in and you guys the way. The camera was willie's closer to the camera. Then sicily on so not only is he sitting on a love seat or looks like he's sitting on a love seat they're also put them further away for. I don't like what the nfl networks on training but back to caserio so there's gotta be a better word when you're sitting on a love seat by yourself there's gotta be a term for that like it can't be called seekers there's obviously no love you're by yourself. Wow that's what the nfl network has showing is know how seat there. Yeah look at that. Come on that's not the only one by the way whenever they're on the road at camp next to joe thomas said they had him downhill to joe. Thomas joe thomas closer to the camera then him sis two feet tall. I mean it was unbelievable sisley auto incredible hosts by the way big fan of the way he runs. Things thinks he's very. I think you guys need to have a little bit more respect for this guy though. He doesn't need to sit and david baker's chair every single time and he goes on tv. That's all we're saying absolutely fair I.

"Talked to the client. They want you to save bringing down home flavor while I'm not going to do. They're bringing that down home flavor. Churches don't act like you don't WanNa go to churches. I wish you would try to act like you. Don't WanNa go to churches right now. All right the keyword. I think we got churches all right so we went through the legal tampering period in the NFL wherever they started doing that a few years ago and it was because of the deal the Redskins said with Albert hanes worth him coming over from or was he tennessee and he supposed to be the best defensive tackle on the face of the earth and his lazy ass once he got to Washington Mike Shanahan that he is a no better example. Call me and tell me. Eight hundred eight seven eight play or tweet me out Rick Tuttle. I've never seen a guy get his money and quit in a bigger way than Albert handsworth. There's over one hundred million dollars and from the second he wrote Albert Executive Year. Bartholomew Dalyell Jean Pierre Lafitte. Hanes worth the ninth esquire Bachelor of Arts. Did He stop? What a waste of money but I bring him up because before the legal tampering period at twelve o one am he signed that one hundred million dollar plus deal and sell at the we. We really have to do something here. We really have because this is so this. Five hundred page document with all the incentives. You wrote this up. In how long. Twenty seconds twenty seconds. And then you got five copies of it printed and how long sixteen seconds sixteen seconds okay and then the rest was him signing it does. Yeah IT LOOKED PRETTY STUPID. So as we've seen now and there was some movement not just through agency we have the shocking trade of Deandra Hopkins. I'm telling you these things sometimes go under the radar because there's a frenzy period. Where all these take place like you have to say? Wait a minute what happened a Cam. Newton Teddy Bridgewater. Oh yeah I forgot Teddy Bridgewater. And that's natural for all of us citing but with everything going on with the pandemic that we have right now on the planet earth with his pandemic that some of the stuff is really going to go into the radar so yeah Andrea Hopkins goes to the cardinals and then the buffalo bills went out and traded for Stefan digs and the colts sent their first round. Pick to niners for deforest buckner. We had a lot of stuff going on but some teams are big winners and and obviously the Tampa Bay and the fan base. I mean for the first time since I watched that horrifying worst sporting events airman to my whole existence was super bowl. Thirty seven Tampa in San Diego against Tampa Bay. They wanted thirty seven all the eyes of the world. We're turn to the BUCCANEERS. And since then not so much. Well now. They have Tom Brady the colts. I think did well with Philip rivers is. I said he finished fourth in passing yards last season but he also was third with twenty picks his passer rating was eighty eight. And a half. So not everybody's going to like this move. But the colts wanted to acquire rivers and they did. So you have to give them credit back with Frank Reich as the head coach and he's back with Nick Serianni who was five years working with the offense and the chargers and Frank Reich was the o C with chargers for two seasons as well. How about the Bengals? They had to do some. They still have a lot of work to do. I mean really. You think about how bad they were under. President Zachary Taylor's first year as head coach in the Queen City there First of all they made the farmer. Texans Defensive Lineman DJ READER. The highest paid nose. Tackle the NFL for your sixty three million. This is a guy who's twenty five years old He's a very very good player. I love nose tackle. I love running three four remember. The bengals had one of the worst defenses over the last few years and I cannot stop the run. This is something that had to be addressed whether the drafter free agency or trades. And they've done that. Still work to do no doubt but a agreed to terms with the Vikings Corner. Trae WAYNE'S. The Sky was the eleventh overall pick just five years ago and he played very well with the Vikings Cincinnati is making moves to help that defense and they're going to get joe burrow back on wood for them so it looks good. The raiders when you think about you know they said Oh they signed Marcus. Mariota put pressure on Derek Carr. Then they didn't they him because they needed to get back up and I think if Mariota was there when car broke his leg on Christmas Eve when the raiders are twelve and four. I think the raiders would have had a shot to beat the Texans in that playoff game. They had no shot Connor Cook but they went out. They got chasing whitten's from the cowboys. They got chef heats from the cowboys they got only collins from the cowboys. Heath Collins. These are just very much Reggie McKenzie type of moves. Collins is going to start at defensive. Tackle there's no doubt about that. He is a guy who might start. He's mostly a special teamer so we'll see what happens with all that and the titans they appear to be Going all out this year they went and of course they kept Ryan Tannehill Day Franchise Derrick. Henry that's what you need it and then getting Vic Beasley. That was nice for their defense and the thing is even though they got to the final four they do have trouble getting other quarterback and Harold landing put up nine sacks cameron wake only had two and a half calmly. Korea had five so beasley has a chance to step in there but teams. That didn't do well. I mean Look Boston. If you lose Tom Brady. You're not going to be in there. And then you're not gonNa Roll Jarret Stidham or cody Kessler and see if they get Jameis Winston or whoever they want to Cam Newton. But that's the thing about the panthers moving on from Cam. Newton does not make the panthers a loser but maybe how they handle the situation because Tuesday announced that Newton would be allowed to explore trade options which made himself he wanted out. Which wasn't the case Cam. Newton said on instagram quote. Stop with the word play. I never asked for it. There is no dodging this one. I love the panthers to death and will always love you guys. Please not trying to play me or manipulate the narrative and act like I wanted this you forced me into this and then Greg Olsen fantastic tight end who is now at the seahawks by the way he read. It sounds familiar. But if you think about it. Newton Olsen and leuke clearly no longer members of the panthers and Teddy Bridgewater Luke equally. By the way. If you didn't know if you've forgotten January he announced he retired twenty years old you. Nancy retired so not a great off-season despite the fact they got Teddy Bridgewater. And then you look at the jags and I like Joe Schober. I I do. I think he but I mean if you look at the Jacksonville. Jaguars If I'm a GM I look at show. Bert and I go yeah. He'd be nice but five years. Fifty three point seven five million dollars but the fact is you could say that the are not having a good off season. Because they're keeping both quarterbacks foles and Menchu and if you think about when the colts were really desperate for a quarterback they could have picked up the phone. Engaged indies interest in Nick foles Reich Frank Reich Turk foles onto a cerebral MVP when he was the offensive coordinator in Philly. So I think he would at least consider falls when he was looking for a quarterback in indy. By taking that big contract off your hands. But I'M GONNA go ahead and disagree with the notion say narrative because we're not narrowing anything but just the notion that the Jaguars are losers. If Joe SHELBERT WORKS OUT JOE. Show works out and listen when you get into these times. People are GonNa be overpaid deforest Buckner. He's going to get more money than Khalil. Mack think about that he's going to get more money than Khalil Mack. That's just the way these things work and Schober coming out of Wisconsin. You know he's not very big but the past three years he's had at least one hundred tackles Every year for the Browns. So said these guys. They'll they'll always try to take the numbers and Benjamin away and that's GonNa make themselves look good right. They're always going to do that. Say Well you know this guy if you look at the numbers. I just seen that. So many times with the raiders with the rail at Ray Ray Armstrong Tire Whitehead's and you know nothing against those guys but it just it just seems like I said Reggie McKenzie type of things Molly Collins Jason Witten Jeff Heath I heard me collins who and Jeff Heath who at least I heard who the hell Jason Witness and I know Marcus Mariota is you could say. Did they get better? Did they get better. Maybe they didn't get better all right. We'll take a quick break.

"They got burnt over and over and over again. A guy like Joe. A guy like Cory Littleton can can provide upgrades in that regard and then maybe you bring in a second guy through the draft and all of a sudden. Your linebacker position goes from a weakness to strength put. Were you feeling on on on a linebackers? I like one of the other options you put out there Blake Martinez. I think that he's a really strong tackler. I think that we've seen in his career with the packers that he is somebody that can really kind of command a defense. And so I think that that's part of what the raiders need. And it's not that Joe. Schubert can't do those kinds of things but I think in terms of how the raiders can really structure their defense and really overhaul. I think that he might be a better option. But I first of all Cory Littleton. I think would be the best. So if we're not for taking off the table I would say Blake Martinez only wanted to for the the sake of conversation. In past episodes we have spoke about Littleton. So yeah but I like Blake Martinez a lot and I think like something that you alluded to your article. That was important to note was that he played a lot of games with a broken hand. So I mean he missed a lot of tackles how much of it is due in part to that and he was good at stopping the run. He was pretty. Good hundred. Fifty nine tackles was and I think the team had. Even you know the the official team stats. I believe had like near one. Seventy or over one seventy that's their stats of course So yeah he's a he's a you know when you talk about Miss Tackles eighteen is what I what I what I saw is playing with a broken arm. But he's also that shows you sometimes where it could be a little bit. Deceiving he's getting there Where baby guys aren't even getting there? So summa has mrs could be in situations where there wasn't even anyone there to make initial tackle so at least he's shows obviously a nose for the ball. WanNa be able to be able to dissect the run and get there and as miles alluded to he quarterbacks your defense and I think that's a huge huge aspect. He's such an astute player and is able to to make the calls and then you know he might not be the athlete. That corey is or even Joe. Shelbert is but you draft a guy that that can be that kind of an athlete. That could be a better fit as far as defending the pass and all of a sudden. You've got a really good quarterback guy that's going to be able to stop. The run is good enough in pass coverage and then you also try to add to the draft and elite pass cover linebacker and again now. All of a sudden you're linebacker situation goes for a weakness to stay very stable. I think sometimes people underestimate how much that matters being the quarterback of the Defense. Because vaunt perfect was that for the raiders for the first few games of the year and then of course he gets suspended for the rest of the twenty thousand nine season and so then that responsibility shifts satire. Whitehead. And you know. I don't want to disparage anything about your whitehead in his character and whatnot you know. He is a good guy but I think that someplace where the raiders knew. They needed to improve. And so that's why you put in will compton in order to do those types of things throughout the latter stages of the season. He's got better and it did so when you have somebody like that who you now say. Okay we'll compton. Can maybe a bridge to somebody else. But if you can go out in free agency and signed the guy that you want to be the quarterback of your defense and you because you already know that that's better and then you draft somebody in the. Maybe they grow into that. I've seen that before with the with the Rams where you had James Lauren. Itis he had been the quarterback of the defense for years and years and years and you drafted Algal Tree. He starts out as the outside weakside linebacker and then he grows into being the signal caller of the defense. That's how you can maybe transition those things and make them work very very well and then. Alex handed it over to Corey yes and. Then he gave it to Eric. Waddel Eric Weddell You know th this year but he even Corey's a guy that could quarterback you're I don't know that necessarily his strength and I think Blake is you know he's he really stands out in that regard and also on the field but off the field. He's a from everything that I've that I've heard He's tremendous in the in the locker room He's tremendous. He's a great guy to have around. So I know some guy you know. There's there's fans out there that are knocking him for his athletic ability. Sometimes that can be exposed. But you're not going to get a perfect player. Necessarily he brings so much to the table that I think gets overlooked sometimes by fans and and that's why I put him on that. Lets US forth on my list But but there's no question that he provides an upgrade over what the raiders had last year. Someone else I'm curious about and I WANNA get your both of your takes on this guy. Patrick Queenie's a name. That's been coming up it when you look at the. Nfl MOCK draft database sees somebody they played for Lsu Championship game. That's something that Obviously Mike. Mayock and Jon gruden looked at a lot last year when they were kind of looking over their picks. What do you think about him as a fit? He's a guy that's you know. Had A fifty. Nine Solo tackles with Lsu. He's had a good share of fumbles and putting pressure on people. So what do you think about him and how he might fit in? I think he's a strong athlete. First of all I think when you watch what he was able to do not just in the championship game but in the run up to the championship game you see somebody who is a thumper who can come up and hit you who can run very well and that's what you need out of the linebacker position you need athleticism because these running backs are really really tough to cover you. Talk to guys about trying to cover. Alvin Kamara it is one of the most difficult things you can do. Because he's on these option routes coming out of the backfield so you don't really know which way he's going to go but you also have to be able to tackle him so there's a lot that goes into that and I think when you have that kind of linebacker yes each somebody that's young somebody that can run any somebody that can grow. That's probably a solid fit for if you want to overhaul your linebacker position. Why don't you think they're gonNA want well? They do want to overhaul the linebacker position but they have to. I think had the only regular player. That's that's even under contract for next year so so just in that sense. It's going to be a whole new crew and it has to be a whole new crew because that was like we talked about a weakness and I talked to Mike Mac. About it at the at the scouting combine. They know that they need to add. Explosiveness playmakers Dependability production at linebacker. And some other positions we've talked about Kyle Duger Last on the last show the The division three safety and in today's NFL We're seeing more and more were safeties are being able to come down to the line of scrimmage to play that de facto Cover linebacker so You know it might come from that kind of Ended in in terms of the draft. You might get a safety. That could play both ways linebacker and safety to be able to help in the past coverage because as miles alluded to covering these running backs nowadays by linebackers is. I'm not going to say it's impossible because obviously there's guys that can do it but it is really really hard and that's why you're seeing more of these safeties that are coming in and there's a lot of teams out there. Now that are playing safety sets because they're asking those that third safety to be that Kinda linebacker quote safety. That's going to be able to stick with running backs and tight ends out out of the Backfield to play. Madden quite often and I do love a good safety blitz and the more you can get up there and through a safety bullets in their Something I wanted to do before we wrap things up here is discussing a tweet. They came across on my timeline and this was last week when I had asked the fans about what they thought about the whole. Tom Brady incidents and somebody had said that. If the raiders. Take Tom Brady that. There is no way that they could still be a raider fan despite all the Times that the team has moved on them. And this goes back to the TUCK. Rule Where you're in Charles Woodson forces the fumble and then it said that it wasn't a fumble because Tom Brady was talking it in and That cost the raiders. I obviously advancing into the Super Bowl. So when you look at that as something that Raider fans take to heart still how do you think Raider fans would take it? If Tom Brady were in fact brought into the team do you think the a lot of fans jumped ship. Do you think a lot of fan. So hold a grudge. I think fans jumped ship. I think the fans not only grudge. I mean like so long ago I I understand that people have long memories in terms of in terms of football but I think maybe it's it's one of those things where Oh man we signed Tom. Brady Tom Brady this. Tom Brady that and then like if but once you know he starts winning games. Who CARES I go back to In the late great Kobe Bryant. I still can't believe I'm saying that right now. sadly but There were Laker fans who didn't accept Lebron James initially because they were quote unquote Toby stand exactly Kobe versus Lebron in that area. And it's like you know that would be like if the Lakers had gotten Larry Bird back in the day you're not going to accept Larry. Bird played for the Celtics. Obviously you take Larry Bird if he's available. Obviously you take Lebron James and you forget about all that nonsense first of all. It's not Tom. Brady's fall. It was the referee's fault or however the referee called it so to hate him on a play that he was just making the. I mean he was just out there participating. It wasn't his call. That's just irrational to me. And if he comes in here and does well and wins I think that even those knuckleheads that would dislike him for that reason would come around eventually all right so that'll do it here on the Vegas Nation podcast brought to you again by S. T. N. sports mobile by station casinos and also presented to you by untuckit. Guys make.

"Podcast and ready to talk about what could be happening with. Derek Carr now of course so. Everybody's heard those rumors out there that the raiders might be willing to offer Tom. Brady sixty million to play here in Las Vegas. When the raiders come but Vinnie you wrote about interest from other NFL teams With Derek Carr and these teams could be in Indianapolis during the NFL SCOUTING. Combine to kind of discussing a preliminary conversation. Because of course can't do anything until mid March when the opening Tampa in period began. So what have you heard? What do you know about? What's going on right now. With teams their interest in Derek. Carr will I think that the raiders stance that they've taken with pretty much every position on the field including quarterback and including Derek cars? That they're gonNA look to get better at every position That is it's interesting to me. Not many teams say that about their quarterback. The Rams weren't saying that about jared the Kansas City chiefs her and saying that. Ah Patrick Mahomes. Vikings aren't saying that I can name a bunch of teams that are not taking that stance with their quarterback so it is conspicuous. That they're saying that but it it I don't necessarily think they're shopping. Derek Carr but I think they're leaving themselves open for other teams to to to sense that. Hey they're open to make him change it and if they do. They're going to have to do something with their car. What would it take for them to maybe trade for them? What would we have to give them in order to maybe trade for Derek Carr and I think that it's from Derek cars perspective? That's a good thing. There's teams that are interested and then we could play. Connect the dots. Here I think in the apple is colts could be a potential team. That would be interested in him. I think the Chicago bears are a team that that could be interested in them. But so I think that I think I pretty much know that when when all the NFL teams get to Indianapolis next week. I think you're going to see some teams or hear about some teens. That approach the raiders to find out. Hey what might take if you're really serious about moving on from Derek Carr or making a change at quarterback What we have to give you to get Derek Carr K. Or something interesting to start today today. Being Thursday Derek Carr is post a kind of a cryptic little Picture there on his instagram. It's of he and Khalil Mack. Shaking HANDS IS THIS. A is this a message. What do we make of this as it? Just because he misses Khalil Mack misses his friend. W- as opposed to this four has no words. There's nothing there. And is this a team that we could see? Derek Carr landing with of course. We're just speaking hypothet- it's all speculation. Absolutely could be a team that are interested in their their. They feel like they're a championship caliber. Team I don't know that there is a ton of confidence anymore in Mitchell trubisky. That's their current quarterback. So if you're looking at a team of ready made team that wants to take that next step and feel that quarterback is the is the issue. Then that's a an easy fit for Derek Carr. That's logical spot. I mean I think when you're talking about Mitch Trubisky in the lack of confidence they haven't him. I mean there's good reason for that. I think trubisky over as a rookie. You saw trubisky do some things that were a little bit encouraging. In the second year you saw some things that were a little bit encouraging they go to the playoffs and then last year it just seems like he takes a bit of a step back and you know I think about Mitchell trubisky and I think about Marcus Mariota and it seems like those. Those guys are sort of on parallel tracks in Murrieta. Obviously a couple years ahead of trubisky but it just seems like there's something there that those guys can't put it together for whatever reason and I think Mario has been one of those guys where you talk about the bears and you say well Kim Mario to be the kind of player that comes in and he revives with Matt Nagy. No you say no no I but it. But that's the kind of thing where okay if it's Derek Carr right you go in there and you can take care of the football and they already have a very good ready made defense. Well then. That's a situation where you can say to yourself. Okay yeah that probably does make sense. Yeah I think that does make sense and like using Mitchell trubisky. It's been one that's kind of been I think Not An Achilles heel of that team but I think they had higher ed thanks. He's been an Achilles heel. He's holding them back straight out and we saw it miles and I were and we're in Chicago and the Rams played the bears a couple years ago and and he threw four interceptions. It was it was three or four. Yeah and the Rams are just bad. Offensively that game. It showed you how good the bears defense work was still win that game in spite of the multiple picks that trubisky. I remember leaving that stadium and go and this is not a super bowl team because he's not a super bowl quarterback I'm sorry but he just isn't. The one thing donated apologized. Carter would bring over eight like you. Said he takes care of the ball and he's a high percentage thrower so he's GonNa complete passes and if you're the bears a nice careful quarterback that doesn't put you in trouble that gets the ball to wide receivers and playmakers and let them do their thing. That's the kind of quarterback that their car is and then you lean on your defense to do the rest You know give him a good running back as well you can see a Derek Carr flourish in Chicago. Well yeah and I think the the thing too about Matt Nagy. Is You know that he can design a good offense that can get guys open and so then all you have to do is deliver the football. There's also a lot of things that they do. Behind the line of scrimmage much like Andy Reid obviously Matt Nagy product of Andy Reid system. So when you have those kinds of things it also helps to confuse the defense on the other side. So I think all of these elements ad together especially with the strong defenses. Say Okay if a quarterback Derek Carr comes in there. You can see them taking the next step. And maybe that is part of what Derek Carr is doing. But also I think it's just I love Khalil. Mack that's my guy. And that's something that he said over the course of the season as well when they were going to play the short of it being his birthday or something like that a picture. Sorry but but how ironic would it be if he did go to Chicago and one in Chicago? In one of the coldest places to draw played well in November and December. I think Somebody would be getting the last laugh. Eddie soldier field which is one of the roughest turfs to play on. Unless you're familiar with it. So it's interesting to hear on this His brother David car eight Hashtag mega-powers so that Kinda ruins now like super twin powers activate. It's like one of those. Things really had mega all all the years. They play together not really bad football team. I know it is next birthday on February twenty-second and as we were twenty two days early. It's two days early early birth in Chicago. What about other teams? I mean. Obviously there's this picture there. It's two hours ago. He posted it. you know when you when you think about other teams in need a quarterback or with free agents situations like You Know Ryan Hills or if you look at the chargers in or is there another option right now that you think that other teams may up the ante when it comes to showing their interest for Derek Carr Well I think first of all I think one of the things. What are they also at other attractive things? I don't think it's Gonna. If the raiders are ready to move on and they feel like they found their answer. I don't think it's going to take a lot to get him. What would you think second round? Pick a third round third people. Were talking about a first round pick. That's not gonNA happen around. Pick would be ironies reasonably priced So you could see somewhat of a bidding war come about. That'd be great for the for the raiders. If that was the case but the Indianapolis Colts are another team. That I think are on the verge of being a really good football team. That need a consistent quarterback in the one thing I think Derek Carr can do like we mentioned about the bears. Get the ball to the weapons. Keep you in a safe position. Not Be sloppy with the ball. He's a capable quarterback he's proven that there's no doubt about it and you put him around a really good team like the colts are. The bears are good. Things can happen so I would say. The colts The bears I'm not feeling the chargers. Maybe the Tampa Bay buccaneers I think that the Tennessee. Titans you know Keep Ryan Tannehill. That would be the dish the smart move on their part out. See any reason why you move away from from him after what he did last year so those three teens would jump out at me not like I said not feeling. The chargers But Colts bears. And maybe the buccaneers. I think would be the ideal fit. Is this a dangerous position for the raiders to put themselves and because the rumors floating around right now is sixty million to Brady? I mean as a forty by place three-year-old quarterback. You don't see that happening. It's just so this is just not to do anything with the Brady talks to do with other team showing interest and I think. It's part of the raiders desire to get better at quarterback and then team sensing that and at least trying to find out what it might take to get their car if they're in a position to to want to add a quarterback on tap. Tom Brady. What I'm hearing is nothing is. You can't absolutely say nothing will or will not happen. Okay so there's wiggle room no matter what. Chang's can change but at least through the people that I'm talking to. It just seems unlikely that that's the fit that the Tom Brady. Raiders is a fit. It could happen. We'll have to wait and see but I think in there is. They WANNA get the quarterback for now and for the future. They're not in the business right now. Trying to create excitement and in their new home and sell tickets. They've already done that. They don't have to make any moves for that purpose everything that they need to everything that they're going to do. Moving forward is for the betterment of their football team. And that's it and I don't know chargers right. Yeah exactly do you have to possess right? So what do you think is the first quarterback domino that has to fall in order for all the rest of the stuff to start happening because I feel like there must be some type of effect like whether it's Brady whether it's somebody else I mean? We already now. No drew breezes is coming back. And he's going to resign with the saints. Is Tom Brady that first domino that has to fall for the rest of the stuff to really start moving. Probably but let's let's talk about this for a second who's really interested in Tom. Brady obviously the Patriots. I would say patriots chargers where else really does make football sense. Not of people have said to forty niners but I don't know that they're ready to move on from rape. Well I think if you you know for the same reasons in some ways that we would say Derek Carr works for the bears and for the colts. Those two teams might make sense for Tom Brady because they have ready made defenses. That are ready to compete so is Brady does Brady Domino to fall or is it? Somebody like Chambers Winston. Is it Teddy Bridgewater? I think that there's is it Ryan tannehill either resigning with the titans franchise him Dak. Prescott is another guy and we all expect that he's going to stick with Dallas but like will be on a long term deal will be on the on the tag. What do you think is the dominant? Probably Tom Brady I think that that's going to get wrapped up quicker than we think. I don't see that lingering Much longer maybe a couple of weeks maybe even next week if you get You know get put together. But the it's such a fascinating situation to me. Because I don't know if there's more teams that need quarterbacks or more quarterbacks that need places that need teams. And that's always that because if there's more quarterbacks than teams now you are as a team year in a way better position to be able to get a guy at a cost That that that is better for your overall salary. Cap Structure So guys like Teddy Bridgewater and Cam Newton and Jameis Winston. Where do they end up? What teams are out there clamoring for a quarterback right now that are going to meet their salary demands. I mean Jameis Winston. What's he going to get? How much money is he going to eat? He's in his is a franchise caliber quarterback. But there's no way he's GonNa get franchise caliber money. And so does that prolong the situation? Does he wait for that kind of situation to open up or does he take the best offer that he feels that? He's going to get so just so many quarterbacks and I'm not so sure there's a whole lot of teams that Are Enough Room for all those quarterbacks to fall someplace that are favorable for the players so another topic that we kind of went through. This week was miles. Had laid out the top five quarterbacks which refined ever ready discussed here on the show that You know the Raiders Mako. After and vinny you went on the linebacker and to discuss some of the guys. We've discussed a little bit about Cory Littleton. But in those four linebackers that you discussed as possible targets for the raiders. Who In that group? Do you feel like a side room littleton. Just because we've already kind of discussed him would make the best fit for this team while Corey would be. I think but Joe Shelbert from the from the Cleveland. Browns he's I don't think he's as quite as good as corey little Tim but he does a lot of the same things as a good tackler has a nose for the football is a tackling machine but also is an asset in pass coverage as we've talked about so many times the raiders primary defensive weakness was an inability for their by their linebackers to be able to stick with tight ends and running backs in pass coverage..

"He helped us break the news last night. Then went live and talked to bunch Browns fans all night on his own show. So Emmett like sum up for us, obviously Browns fans are pumped about the acquisition about Al Beckham junior. But give us some of the flavor of what they're saying in Cleveland. It was lit. I mean, there's basically would dare I say it a lot of f-bomb dropped. And I'm not talking about profanity. I'm talking about the worst Super Bowl always never been saying. Tweet my thirty nine years of life. Really fucked up and fans are excited about what could be. And that's why I kinda compared to when LeBron came back, and they was like, yeah. You know, the Cavaliers have a shot to win something in Metalitz fans in Cleveland feel like right now that the Browns are serious everybody believes, they're definitely they're the toast of the AFC north. And we we would all be surprised here. Cleveland they didn't end up at the top of the AFC north. But a lot of excitement feels good to talk about a terrible football team. Actually, don't even know how to do a show without. Figure that out as a lifelong readers can help you with that all day long. Is it all happening too fast? So like, we have we gone a little too crazy too quickly for this. Yeah. I mean, it's it's March, you know, I mean in Browns fans have been allowed to have this type of fun, and you know. Talk to people really just around the country. The city but around the country, everybody's saying, hey, you know, we're really happy for Cleveland, Cleveland, desserts. This is a great fan base. And it's not. Yeah. People put on it. When they go all the Browns fans, all the best Browns fans, all the nature of this changed. A lot of terrible terrible regimes bad coaches, bad GM. And finally have something to get behind. So. Yeah. I like to call in jump out of a tree. Everybody's just gonna jump out. They fall smile and have fun. You know, maybe champs and training camp starts when the excitement will really be good Spain infant Sarah Spain and Jason Fitz talking to SPN Cleveland's Emmett golden earlier in the show. I was saying that last year I got a little worried for Cleveland fans because we went from the celebration of a tie as a crowning achievement to all we're going to have ten wins and be in the playoffs. And I felt sad that I wanted. It's not that. It's not that quick success is bad. But there is then the loss of the moments of truly enjoying it. Because you've jumped straight ahead to so much hype. That there's a chance you can't live up to those expectations, and it becomes immediately back to being disappointed is this going too fast. After all the failure over the years. I think so I don't think they could go fast enough to be honest with, you know, fortunately, the Browns have a listen to see looks like a pretty good general manager John Dorsey have you found the one thing that Cleveland Browns. Since Barney and that's a quarterback. And after seeing Baker last year, you know, he wasn't perfect. But he was pretty good. And when he did make a mistake we saw him. Correct. Those mistakes. And that's what you want to see from the young quarterback is not to continually make the same mistakes and Baker didn't do that. And that's why everybody is really excited. And I honestly when looking at this team, I think guys like Baker Mayfield Odell Beckham junior Jarvis Landry Myles Garrett for that matter. They all want expectations. They didn't come here for people to go away. Hey, if they win five games, and it's a pretty good year. They want higher pay stations to not only embrace the high expectations. But let's motivate them to do something, really. Really good. We're talking ESPN Cleveland and golden on the shell Pennzoil performance line. So let's go from James scenarios to realistic scenarios in your mind. What really stands out as a realistic endpoint for the Browns this season. I've definitely could see them winning the AFC north with the exception of the ravens who made moves today. Every team has got worse except the Browns. You could probably even are maybe the brazen. Still haven't come back to what they lost after a few days. So the expectations of one in the AFC north the real, and they should be there. Personally. I believe you have to get news before you can get there wins alive. Live from the make the playoffs with the Super Bowl. I mean, it'd be great. I'm not gonna ruin against it. But I'm not expecting it. It's fun to talk about. But it's really really tough to get their fast, especially when you have so many young players, and you're listening to the extremely young football team. So to get in the playoffs, you know, maybe maybe when a playoff game. But that's as far as they go this year. But I mean, that's leaps and bounds light years away from where they were just two years ago. Spain and Fitz Airspan Jason Fitz. Talking ESPN Cleveland's Emmett golden, you know, better than anybody. As you mentioned you've made a living of talking about trash football team. Where are there still hold on this team because if we are excited about a potential for postseason and everyone's talking Super Bowl besides the first year head coach who's never been a head coach where else do you see places where this team might still need a bunch of work? Well, then he's another linebacker, Christian kirksey. Pretty good. Joe shelbert pretty good solid. But Brown's they released Jamie Collins, you know, a few days ago, so they need to feel that physician mayor and they've yet to really find someone that caliber starting caliber a linebacker in the NFL. So they need to to replace that. They also they gotta find out who's going to replace your real peppers. Pretty good last year was the great. No. But he definitely was a solid strong safety. He he actually helped the Browns win the few games. I remember against the falcons chief slammed the door the goal line with a huge, you know, that ended up helping them win the game. So they have to replace that lost in corporate who is taking over a guard. He's a rookie who didn't play. This is the second year rather last year was looking season's getting quite a bit on the field. So those are the three areas where is let's see John Dorsey can do but at this point doors. He's playing with how might you? Because there's nothing. Cleveland Browns fans are to be pretty cool. America's gonna trust everything he does. And so far so good. So there's still some time. And I think you'll be able to fill those home. Hey, real quick before we let you go. There's been so much conversation about other Beckham junior and his personality not being able to mesh with Pat Shurmur the coach of the giants. How do you think he'll mess with Freddie kitchens? Mesh really, well, Freddie, laid back easy going guy. He is honest. He tells you where you stand in for me. It's not so much about buying in the Brady as long as Bill by the Baker and Baker for the quarterback in the head coach appetite relationship and a guy like Baker who relates to everyone on his team from the receiver to the grunt work offense of linemen like he can really relate to everybody. So as long as everyone trust and believes in Baker and Baker says he's my guy he's the one that's going to lead. It. I don't think they'll be in your shoes at all. Spain fits thanks for your time. And maybe we'll make it a our. We don't have a show tomorrow. Otherwise, it would have asked you out right away. I feel like we got third date status. Right. Like well. Maybe we'll just call them on her off night. Well. I'll call fence patchy win. From eleven to one Saturday night. So the perfect perfect. Really late on a Saturday night. Yeah. We'll we'll lost docu on Facebook. Whatever it's back up.
