"Coming out Thought this was kind of big news but as things went on and ultimately this this breaking news. Podcast is about the steelers depth chart going into week one but we'll get there in just a moment real quick. Those jersey numbers that came out jamir jones changes jersey number. Two forty buddy. Johnson moved to forty five wait. I thought that was joe schubert. Yeah joe schubert moved to number ninety. Three also kello witherspoon. He chose jersey number twenty five. They also assigned jersey numbers to the other practice squad players. That weren't part of the steelers. Most notable karl joseph who was reported to possibly be moving up to the steelers fifty three man roster once he clear some protocols is number thirty. I'm not gonna get into all the others at this time. But the other thing is the pittsburgh steelers chose their captains for the twenty twenty one season. They selected ben rothlisberger on offense cameron. Heyward on defense and derek watt as the special teams captain so Missing from last year there was five captains had to on offense to and defense and special teams which was jordan dangerfield. So derek watt first time captain for the steelers in his second year rothlisberger and hayward has been seven straight years. That's as long as hayward's been captain. Rothlisberger has been captain thirteen times at eleven straight years. Two thousand ten. He was not a capital one in there. But the other offense of captain from last year was mark pouncey who retired and on defense. It was tj watched who there was some news with watt. Today he did not return to practice in any different role the what he's had throughout training camp so that kind of setting off some more panic and steelers nation I would say wednesday when the team practices and they have to give an injury report. That's going to be a real big indication with tj watt. Talk about him in a little. Bit more ear on this depth chart and we'll get more information tomorrow from head coach. Mike tomlin and his press conference scheduled for noon on tuesday. So let's get into this depth chart real quick because of some very interesting things. Let's let's start off with the offense and we'll go with the offensive line if went by the older depth chart. They only had four offensive lineman because they hadn't filled in a name for the starting right tackle. But as of right now with the new depth chart from the pittsburgh steelers. here's your starting offensive. Line right tackle. Chook sikora for moving back to the right side like he played last year. Right guard trae. Turner center kendrick green left guard. Kevin dotson left. Tackle dan moore junior. So that's the offensive line. That's the move. A lot of people expected some people were really reading into jc. Half an hour still being the first player listed on the depth chart that was simply because they had a mirror. Preseason the steelers hadn't changed it but kendrick green is. You're starting center with an hour and reserve joe. Hey is listed reserve tackle on both sides a bj fini's listed as the backup to turner on the right side at guard and left guard with kevin. Dotson the backup is listed as rashad coward Let's go ahead and jump into the wide receivers. The steelers have three wide receivers listed as starters. They have it in three different slots and that jujubes. Misuse turkey. Andre johnson and chase klay poll. The backups to those players. Are they have ray ray mcleod. He's behind smith schuster. But i don't know if that matters and they have james washington listed by the johnson. I would read into who they fall behind. That's just the order that they listed him at tight end. Here's what's interesting. Even though there was only one slot they squeeze two names into it. They have both eric. Hebron and pat fair moves listed as the starting tight end on. The first team was zach. Gentry as the reserve quarterback is what we expected. Ben rothlisberger one mason rudolph to duane haskins three derrick watts listed as the fullback and For running back is nausea harris followed by bennie. Snell junior and then kaelin balaj. That's the way the steelers have it for now. We'll see how the playing time shakes out when that ends up coming around. So there's the offense the defense here's some interesting stuff The way they have the defensive line they haven't listed as a defensive tackle at defensive in a nose. tackle it generally been hayward to it. Awhile well steph. Onto its on injured reserve so a tackle. They have cameron heyward backed up by isaiah louder milk at defensive and they have chris worm leaves the one and carlos davis the to and then at nose tackle. They have tyson allah with isaiah bugs in reserve now for outside linebacker. Trent jordan watt one. Tj watt is listed as the left outside linebacker on number one on the depth chart that has not changed we. Hopefully we'll hear more from coach tomlin about this tomorrow. If they plan on him being available for week one and then on the on the right side is alex highsmith. The reserves are the same for both they did it for both melvin ingram's listed as the reserve for both players followed by jimmy jones when looking at the inside linebackers. They have devin bush listed at the left. Joe schober the right. I'm not gonna read into left and right there but those are your two inside linebackers the next set of inside linebackers because remember the steelers have six is marcus allen and robert spelane then the third set is buddy. Johnson and ulysses gilbert the third. So that's kind of interesting especially if the steelers are going to have to make any more roster moves. You're probably looking at guys that are further down the depth chart and a lot of people feel that inside linebacker where they have six players could be somewhere where they have to make a move otherwise we'll get to that soon became cornerback. Here's what's interesting. The steelers in the past have listed slot corner or nickel or nickel corner as a starting role. They do not have that listed here. They do not have any quarterback listed in that way so all they have is left and right. Which is joe hayden on the left in camp sutton on the right on the first team. The second team is justin lane behind. Joe haden and james pierre behind cam sutton then. They're the third team has a pillow witherspoon behind justin lane. And arthur. Let behind james. Pierre no surprises it safety as its toronto edmonds. A strong safety minkah fitzpatrick is free safety. Miles killebrew's backing up crow edmonds with trae norwood backing up. Mika fitzpatrick finally to finish things off. Let's talk about the special teams. No really big surprises. When it comes to the specialists. Of course a chris boswell as the kicker presley harvard the third is the punter and holder and christian koonce as the long snapper. Ray ray mcleod is listed as both the punt returner and kick returner for the first team now. His reserves are let's go punt returner. I is deonte johnson to and then james pierre third when on kick return it goes rain. Mcleod benny snell junior as the second kick returner in jeans peers. The third It'll be interesting to see when he comes back from injured reserve. Anthony anthony mcfarland where he would fall with. It would be a head of railway mcleod behind because he was used a lot during the preseason so there is a pittsburgh steelers depth chart but they released today very interesting. It's funny because there's it's not a lot of big surprises but more a less or less there was a lot of confirmation of speculation on especially when it comes to the offensive line. So it's interesting with with these things just to see how they lay out in the in the reserves and everything else. I am pleased to see. Tj watch still there Probably because he is on the fifty three man roster. They're not going to remove him but they did list him. As the first player we should get more information on. What in the coming days but until then make sure that you.

"Deputy editor behind the curtain dot com and we were doing a little bit of a primer for cut down day of course tuesday the days now as soon as this podcast drops we will be taken down the minutes. Heck the seconds to that cut deadline as those move start trickling in and we know they will and they will be coming in hot. And i don't really anticipate any big crazy cuts by the pittsburgh steelers especially the team in the direction. They're trending in. It just doesn't look like a team. That's going to be making any kind of bold decision right now but we should talk about the defense of course first half of the show. We broke down often. The side of the football defensively kicking things off at the corner position and we'll work our way in from there at corner. I think we already know what the steelers star is going to look like but then it comes to those depth spots and whether or not they make a move for another corner. Which if you ask me if you ask jeffrey benedict if you ask. Jeff hartmann dave pskov. Basically if you ask anyone from behind the steel curtain dot com staff it feels like an evid ability that the steelers land some sort of corner whether or not. It's a player from an outside team or trade to upgrade the spot especially at that nickel position. An o'brien callaghan's name. That's been talked about a lot and one that the steelers have called to check in on. I don't know if it's passed anything other than initial contact but that's something. We need to see one of those spots. Honesty is going to come from a player more than likely outside the organization that the time of recording. The show is currently a pittsburgh steeler outside of that you of go look at those kind of depths spots. Could amar gilbert climb his win in the team. Of course you know occur. Brown got cut in the steelers have no plans on signing him to the practice squad which is kind of mind boggling to think of the undrafted free agent with the largest signing bonus in steelers history getting cut just a few weeks later with no interest for the team for even a one redshirt kind of developmental year the steelers sitting and kind of moved along that one was a bit of a shocker but that corner spot again. It's one wash. It almost seems like justin lanes going to fluke his way into another nfl year. Sorry if you're listening. Justin but he struggled mightily throughout all his playing time in the regular season. The last couple of years after being third round pick for the pittsburgh steelers But they just don't have the bodies. Justin leans going to find his way on this team once again. Moving out to safety. This one is kind of one of those up in the air things once again. Because the steelers don't really have any safeties past their starters you know making fitzpatrick trill admins and traynor. Would i suppose it's kind of that number. One free safety back up now with almost no competition behind him which is pretty insane for the pittsburgh steelers to roll a seventh round pick as a primary backup into the season. But that's just the way we're rolling into this year so hopefully norwood is ready to go but right now. I don't anticipate anything anything crazy. Come down from that role. Strong safety however i guess miles kellogg abreu is your backup strong safety guy. That played linebacker. The last couple of seasons. In that kind of marcus allen type role of course. He's reunited with coach. Darrell austin who drafted him to detroit and meet him. A strong safety before awesome left and killebrew was bumped down to that inside linebacker position. So safety i wouldn't expect anything crazy outside of them perhaps trying to bring in another body. I don't. I don't foresee them making any bold moves at the safety position though and are just more likely to try to rotate one of the corners. Up to safety in the event of an injury bringing things down to inside linebacker and things start to get a little bit of spicy because that inside outside linebacker spot. We know the steelers like to carry nine of them total. Whether or not it's five guys in the inside or five guys in the outside varies by year and it just varies by talent level. And who. Danny danny smith thinks is going to be a better contributor on special teams those kind of depth linebacker roles typically false guys that have a little bit more special teams prowess. So that's something to keep in mind when the cuts come down and you get mad that your favorites outside or inside linebacker depth player that is got the axe. That's probably because they're not a very good special teams contributor. And that's their number. One job being the ninth linebacker on this team so some names to watch out for us cut candidates i think of course ulysses gilbert the third his time i feel like he's one of those guys just come to an end he was terrible. All preseason lawn. He lost naps he. He's he remembered that week one game that he was healthy. Mike tomlin refuse to give them a helmet despite having almost no depth that inside linebacker at all it was just one of those things where ulysses gilbert the third continues to hang on but everything is just training in the wrong direction for him lashing on this team any longer. So that's someone. I kind of anticipate getting the chop. Of course marcus. Allen is another name that you should watch out for who i think he might have played himself onto the roster but battling some injury. You don't know for certain. We know joe schubert and devin bush. You're going to be the starter so not to worry. They're the most likely backups. Roberts splaine and buddy johnson will be backing them up then it becomes whether or not there's a fifth linebacker or fifth guy on the outside. Of course the outside linebacker spot you've got. Tj watt melvyn. Melvin ingram goodness gracious. Already forgotten his name. And then you have. Alex highsmith as your three starters. Your forced guy comes down to a competition of three players..

"Be a backup to nashi harris. Some even thought that he could be trade bait. Maybe he's a player that could be if a team loses a running back and would they be willing to trade for many snell. Well that's not gonna work out. Based on the fact that any sales been hurt all of training camps say he is supposed to play against carolina. he's probably going to get a lot of carries. I'm anxious to see what he has left in the tank. James washington is number two on the list like i said earlier. I don't think jujubes misusers going to play. I don't i doubt that. Deontay johnson plays much but a guy like james washington is going to play. He might play just the first half but he's going to play when you talk about a disgruntled player when you talk about a player who was kind of not happy with his current situation then my goodness you need to make sure that you take advantage of every opportunity. And he'll get plenty of those with dwayne haskins getting the start so keep an eye on washington before i go any further by the way i compiled this list without using quarterbacks. So you really jeff. Where's wayne haskins like. I didn't put quarterbacks on here. We know that they're going to he. And joshua dobbs are going to be the quarterbacks for this game i felt. It wasn't necessary to bring them up. We're all going to be watching the quarterback position next the offensive line. I have a feeling that the steelers starting off of line that zach banner on the right all the way to chew on the left is going to be playing. And i want to see them get. Maybe maybe it's only ten snaps or one series or whatever. I want to see them. Get some good quality robson together all of them trae turner kevin dots in kendrick green. You name it. I want to see him all. I wanna see them get good quality wraps good pass protection. Good push up front. That's what i wanna see. Let's go to the fourth player. Zac gentry yes. Zach gentry. I don't think that farm is going to play much if at all i don't think eric iran's going to play much. If at all that leaves that gentry with a golden opportunity he in in kevin rader are really battling it out here for this third tight end spot. Could they keep four. they could. I doubt they will. But zac gentry it. He's been playing really well so far in. He's hasn't gotten much of an opportunity. Why pat farm youth eric iran. That's probably why he's going to get every look to really make a make the team not just make the team. But say i could actually be valuable member of the fifty three man roster can i can also catch big game for him. I'm anxious to see what he can. Do anthony mcfarland not running back number twenty six. I want to see if maybe we can see explosive play. I don't care if it's a screen. Pass a check down. Look at nausea. Harris did against the detroit lions last saturday night. Little dump off windsors one on one matchup makes a guy. Ms forty six yards later. I'd love to see different. Mac and nag is explosive. We as fans just have not seen it yet. My goodness just wanna see it break one. That's all i wanna see. Let's go to honorable mention for the offensive side of the ball. I had kaelin balaj. He's going to be back in the lineup again. He looks like he could. Maybe it's between snell and balaj for this roster spot running back. i'm not sure. But it's gonna that's gonna be something to watch for. Sure fryer meat if he plays just because he seems to be an electric person. You always want to keep your eye on him. And last certainly not least matthew sexton number eighty kick return punt returner everyone including matty parole in his war room. Podcast which. I listened to thursday on my way home from work. They're all saying matthew sexton could win a job matthew sex and if he's going to win a job he has to make some type of contribution as a receiver. I just don't think anyone in the nfl anymore. It's going to have someone on the roster who only returns kicks now. Matthew sexton has been by far the best returner they've had this entire preseason but my goodness why in the world would they keep him if he can't catch passes or do anything else in the offense. Ray ray mcleod. I've thought he came on real strong last season. Kinda tailed off at the end. But he was a part of the offense he would run those sweeps he would do. Some of the dirty work and he's had some catches in the preseason. Even if matthews's jackson has any prayer upsetting in unseating. Ray ray mcleod. He's going to have to do something outside of kick and punt return duties. That's just my opinion all right. Let's go over to the defensive side of the ball five players to watch on the defensive side and we'll start off joe schubert number forty five inside linebacker. I said that a lot of players will probably get the night off. I don't think he's one of them. I don't think bush is one of them either. They might only play a few series. But i think the joe sherbert is someone to keep your eye on his communication his overall ability. I was stunned the other day when he did is he had. Immediate availability wasn't even post game. But he talked about helen jacksonville. They don't tackle at all unless it's a preseason game maybe this is the new norm and the nfl. But i'll tell you what the pittsburgh steelers do not abide by that rule. They tackle a lot and i know. Several people have gone to training camp. Whether it's at heinz field or whether it's at saint vincent college and said the steelers are the most physical training camp that they've seen so joe sherbert. Kind of get reacclimated. Here brother you gotta get in their number forty five. Keep an eye on him next. Justin lane my boy. Justin lane lust and jane. Is we call them on the steelers preview after my or our little twitter beef that we had last season but just in lane has been getting around the football. That is important. He's been making plays in the ball. He had a good interception at practice is one of the last ones at heinz field. Had an interception in philadelphia was close to another pick against detroit. As i watched that game if he continues on this path and as much as i couldn't stand the guy last year for him coming at me on twitter for just commenting on a play if if he could turn out to be a third round quarterback cornerback that actually plays well and plays a lot. I be ecstatic ecstatic. But you know what i think. He has a ways to go but he's going to get a lot of playing time. Let's see how he does. Let's also keep in mind with all these players all of them. Offense stevens doesn't matter. The reports are is a carolina are going up. They're going to play their starters and they're going to play them. They might use this as their final dress rehearsal. So someone like justin lane. Someone like you know. Joe schober even going back to the offensive side with the offensive line. They're going to be going up against starters. This is not gonna be your typical last. Preseason finale empty benches type game. keep that in mind all right. The next the third player to watch and defense. James peer number. Forty two cornerback..

"I think he's gonna play up a little bit more now that joe schubert's there he's going to read on running backs he's going to get more tackles. I wouldn't be surprised if you're looking at him. Being a top five top ten player right now. He is currently ranked at number sixteen according to espn for adp linebackers. But maybe keep him in mind. He'll shoot up rakings a little bit at the end of this year. I believe devin. Bush is a great stream or start. He has some ability to intercept balls as well and create turnovers and then just wanted to make note. I was super surprised. I don't have him in my top five because some of the strong safeties really take the cake when it comes to individual individual defensive players for defensive backs but minka fitzpatrick is ranked thirty fourth in. Adp for defensive backs. And i think that is crazy. I just wouldn't have expected that that's according to espn so it may be different in on other sites. Haven't looked at some other sites but his ability to create turnovers. But the problem for minka. And i wouldn't have thought of this before. Really delving into this is that he gets avoided on the back end so much because he's such a ball magnet and a ball hawk so he's not he doesn't get as many tackles as your other strong safeties will terrell emon's probably will get more tackles than make if it's patrick. At least that's what you hope. Make if it's patrick hopefully has more turnovers more. Pick sixes morehouse calls. That's what we're looking for out of minka. So every now and then he's going to be a great start but it's going to be hard to count on him. Because you're hoping for that. Picker that fumble recovery and a touchdown four point totals from make if it's patrick all right. That is my observations and our deep dive into defenses. I think we got pretty defensive today. Here on this podcast. I hope you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to this. Friday seeing the steelers play the panthers in charlotte man. I wish i could go to that game. I'm only two and a half hours away from it but some things going on this weekend moving to a new house and such like so not able to go to that. But i will be tuning in as much as i can to see some of our players play. I hope you can do that too as always thank you so much for joining me today for the steelers fantasy football. Fix looking forward to talking with you again next week. Look for this podcast. Every wednesday coming out at noon for your lunch break or whatever. Thanks again for tuning. "I t b d. Yeah okay all right to be determined like to see a little bit more of shelbert with bush yes Once you have once you know. I'm one hundred percent on board with that. Then that makes d'alene look like very good depth as well as potentially buddy johnson. Well here's what's crazy. From the game sunday night the only played four inside linebackers. He play devon bush. Joe schubert and then they played by. Can i not roberts lane and marcus allen. Yeah i know. I did not play you g three and they did not play buddy johnson. So i'm sorry buddy. Johnson's four draft pick and has done anything wrong. I don't he he. I don't think he's going to miss the cut of the fifty three if you know what i mean. Yes but it's funny. I you've marcus allen. The way they're using him as a linebacker when he was really a safety everything else. I don't know that if he doesn't make the fifty three that he's not a guy that you couldn't just get to the practice squad. 'cause i don't know if anyone wants to utilize in the way the steelers are using it. So it's going to be real. I'm not sure what they're doing there. That's why i. That's why i was pretty good. Yeah because i don't know really don't. I'm not i'm not really concerned but again i'm not super concerned about that position. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out exactly exactly so you know the steelers were were looking to make moves. And i mean i thought devon bush looked much more comfortable in his second game yup just because you know the first one was the first one back with with the knee. So you kind of expect that last but not least defensive line works. Yeah i mean he was with steph onto it out. I mean i would like to back. But you're you're you're showing some stuff. They're the biggest concern they have to figure out is this who sticking around not yeah and carlos davis had a nice game on quietly had a nice game on saturday he had he was. He was the third highest. Pf score for the steelers defense for the game. Only behind highsmith and ingram. It came it was then. Carlos davis so i think he looked much better but believe it or not. I bet. Isaiah buds was fifth. He was up there too. So i think the biggest thing you have to worry about is figuring out who they're gonna keep but that's a good problem to have so with act. We're gonna call the only big concerns. We really have on defense. And it's not even a big concern is how are they figuring it all out of corner because i thought brooks did great in the hall of fame game. And then now he's gone. It's like they spent all this time to figure out something and then they have to. It's like it didn't happen. That's it's a shame it really is all right. We're gonna come back part two going to look at the offense which there's plenty to talk about the offense and and then we'll look forward ahead to this friday's games you we think is going to go on there. What we'd like to see their and of course and of course we'll do our question at the end so if you're with us on the audio side go ahead and go over partout. If you're here with this on youtube or facebook give us a few seconds. We'll be right back..

"Linebackers aren't put in as much of a tough situation so we can get a better gauge on. How much devin. Bush is ready to go for the season. What the steelers have in their new middle linebacker. Joe schubert would love to see. What would you get there. And is roberts lane much better off in that reserve role that can come in and if that's just better suited for him so those are some numbers and things to look for. So i wanna see the steelers. I want to see them. Get first downs in the first quarter. I wanna see them. Put points of the board in the first quarter. And i would also like to the steelers to get off the field in the first quarter on defense. The the third down conversion third-down rates conversion rate. Sorry be pretty low in the first quarter but even in the first half. I'd like to see the steelers win the first half and not just dominate the second half like they did last week. So that's what the numbers i'm looking for. I'm hopefully that was fun and informative for you. All i'm sorry if i was just regurgitating a lot of stats but my goodness. That's an awful lot to take in from this game this past week. It was absolutely crazy that the you know. The steelers gave up no first downs. In the second half didn't give a third dot conversion the entire game had a crazy time of possession advantage and completely dominated that part of the game. I would just like to see the steelers. Be able to put points on the board this next game before the two minute. Warning of the first half because the steelers they have one score in the first half shofar. Let's let's get that going a little bit better. But i'm excited to see what things can happen. I'm excited to see. I'm not gonna say a full stadium because it's preseason that it just doesn't fill up but i'm excited to see numerous fans throughout the stadium. Saturday night at heinz field. I really am. I'm looking forward to seeing this game. It's nationally televised on. nfl network. And because the steelers are the home team you will get the home team announcers which is very positive. Because it should be charlie batch and bob papillon and you don't have to listen to the other teams announcers never talked about the steelers instead. The lines fans have to listen to the steelers. Announcers never talked about the lines. That's that's a. That's a pretty good off. I'll take that but Thanks for for check us out. Make sure you are. You are checking out behind. Steel curtain dot com. It really is your one-stop shop. Frogs pittsburgh steelers. We know you're going to visit other websites. Do that you're not gonna get your steelers news from us. "Open and saying that he got frustrated last year with the team success and it impacted him personally and he claims he's in a better mental space now and again like who can blame the guy for eight games. He had mike glennon j clinton throwing him the ball again. More jake lunch shots. Christ almighty give the guy show the guy some mercy here pain. You also have Chenault who had a really good rookie season considering the circumstances and maybe he plays a little bit more in the slot only played twenty eight percent of snaps their last year. But if you have charcoal jones outside channel have to adjust. What's interesting though before i kind of. And this is that digging into some of the historical data since two thousand thurs ben. Thirteen college coaches making the transition to the nfl for the very first time urban meyer's number fourteen and of that group. Only nick sabin with the finns. Jim harbaugh with the forty niners. Kelly's eagles have produced a better than average team by the metrics year. One the other nine coaches have fallen about ten and a half percent alone average football team in year one. So it's something to think about that. You know running an elite college football program and trying to do the same thing at the. Nfl is is really freaking difficult. It's virtually a different game altogether and layer into that. You don't have a veteran quarterback either to lean on his experience in terms of getting team in and out of the huddle and creating some of that locker room leadership. Trevor lawrence will get there but asking that of him in his first season might be a bit much. Andrew lock was actually the first are. Excuse me the last rookie quarterback to post a winning record in his first season the last jaguars quarterback to go to the pro bowl. You ask the pride of east carolina. David garard back before two thousand ten. Now defensively pain when we look at the jags. Thirty first in scoring and total defense. They gave up more than four hundred yards and ten of sixteen games. I mean they weren't able to get to the opposing quarterback and they couldn't stop the run. That's not exactly a great combination of things to be able to do. Defensively what. I was surprised by looking at the roster that miles jack is the only player that remains from that division winning defense back in two thousand seventeen now. There's a lot of young talent to get excited about. Whether it's chase out of lsu or josh allen need to be good rushers this defense still seems to be at least a year if not longer away from moving into that top half of the league. The bars real low here and you mentioned they finished thirty. First and defensive efficiency overall urban made a good hire here. He brought in joe colin debuts. Dc's been the ravens d. Line coach the last five seasons. So the pedigree's there there's a couple nice front seven pieces talent. Wise in you mentioned many of those guys josh allen and miles jack and jason i think the question is can call and get those three guys production levels to match the talent and i think josh allen has the potential to be great. It's going to be a big year for him. Miles jack has never been elite though and the guy largely responsible for having jack last year with this. Massive turnaround in production was joe schubert. He basically allowed jack to be more free flowing and make plays sideline to sideline jacksonville just trader. My way to pittsburgh this week. Jason is interesting. he's nothing but really raw talent at this point he doesn't have a natural position. He was better in coverage in creating pressure but was still below average in both he was horrific holding up at the point of attack and tackling. He doesn't have a ton of bend so he really didn't materialize into a natural. Pass rusher jacksonville. I think is gonna find out pretty quickly. If he's part of the rebuild or not but you do chasing remove like this is now. What two years removed from the acl tear. So maybe that helps. The secondary was a bit of a mixed bag last year of really young guys or old players just hanging on and not a good combination especially when they were facing the third tougher schedule of offense last year. Jacksonville finished thirtieth in defense pass. Efficiency twenty-fifth in explosive pass defense. It just wasn't good. You know and i do think there is some level of hope in the new system that it being more aggressive might help across the board but even with the improved talent and some of the scheme shifts i. I'm not quite sure there's enough talent here. The schedule won't be as difficult this season of passing offenses which is good. Cj henderson. i must like him more than jacksonville does. because he's being shopped around already. The saints have called multiple times about him. Here's the ninth. Pick only played eight games last year. I can't figure out how they wouldn't value him. But i guess maybe it's a scheme thing the jags signed shaquille griffin. And sean jenkins to bolster the secondary and then with the thirty third pick took tyson campbell out of georgia. There has been some hinting from joe. Colin that he is going to basically become baltimore junior with how they operate defensively. And there's gonna be a little bit of a transition to three or four scheme so the corner position like. I don't know why you would attempt to get rid of c. j. anderson because you're coroners are going to be asked to hold up one on one and i would expect a ton of blitzing baltimore's defense that finished number one in blitz rate the last three seasons so expect jacksonville to look something like that. It was funny watching. The preseason game is almost like even though. The browns weren't playing their starters stefanski in that coaching staff or so. Sharpen smart that they actually game plan for a ton of pressure. So i know you were at the raiders game but you're just a ton of screens early on to negate that pressure. It's like they knew at joe collin wanted to do and in a preseason week one game. They kind of schemed for it which is really funny. So you know. I expect jacksonville's defense to look something like baltimore's just in the the scheme and what they wanna do now. The talent isn't quite there in. Maybe this helps chase on improve. We know dave aranda at lsu used a three four and allowed jason the come off the edge standing up because he has been horrific with his hand in the dirt but maybe that helps but just based on on scheme and some added talent here in the schedule easing up attach and some some positive progression for the jags pressure rate. I think that means that they're going to improve your. I mean you just look at some of the pressure eight stuff. They finished eleventh in. Pass rush win right but it only translated to twenty in the twenty seventh and pressure rate. So that's going to improve look positive aggression so across the board here. I think you know we're not talking about an average defense. I don't think but i also think they'll make a move from being one of the league's worst. Maybe just bad. This year should be an interesting team to watch. We know a lot about the star power. That's there. I think they're going to have a ton of is and expectations with urban meyer at the helm along with the number overall pick and trevor lawrence. It may not show up as early as we one for. The jags will be in the unenviable role of having a first year. Head coach and a first year starting quarterback as a road favourite even against the texans. But we'll see how things manifest the deeper we get into the.

"He's better at that are so for me what we're looking at. What steelers debt. As they got an upgrade on roberts blame when it comes to play down and being run stopper they got an upgrade roberts filleting in terms of calling plays and knowing the defense and adjusting to what the at you and they got a guy who can cover and maybe blitz. There's gonna be some interesting things were that we're going to have to see play out like for example. Joe schober was on a terrible defense. Was he targeted less. Because the guys around him were worse than so he was just not the easiest guy to pick on right or roberts. Blame was often hey who he had a target. You're gonna target that backup guy who's never played. Who has you know before last season had exactly one snap on defense and his career so yet he got targeted more are are you gonna see where maybe joe schubert in this defense puts up better stats you know per target. Maybe he gives up fewer completions and so his yards per target. Go down in this year. Maybe we see joe. Schubert is actually a really good blitzer and his his rush percentage in his pressure rates. Go up or maybe we see. That's not a strength of his. And roberts blaine is just a better blitzer. That joe schober. Who knows there are some leeway here that we're gonna have to find out we're going to feel out how schober fit specifically in this defense. Statistically wise like what his productions going to be as he changes roles from from. You know the jacksonville defense to this defense. But really if you watch film. He's very similar to robert splaine. So what you saw the good of robert spilling last year with a little better run stuffing That's what i expect from. Joe schubert this year which is great. That's an upgrade. That's a that's a great addition especially for the for the cost. They got him for so two round out the show into our last little segment here on go through the last rest of the position. We spent a lot of time. Joe show burton inside linebackers. How he fits in devon bush gonna be your number one linebacker if he's healthy. You know there's a chance to steelers really are trying to limit his snaps early in the season because he's not one hundred percent yet i would understand the case or if they just say hey you know what we're we're going to give you a little break. You played a ton last season or give fewer snaps. But he's your number one linebacker eastern over one linebacker show. Joe shelbert is good and coverage but there's people out there saying he's better than david bush coverage in that's just simply not true. Film does not back that up numbers. No back that up. It's just it's not true Joe showers can be number two and he's playing a lot. He's gonna play a lot. He is a veteran of the group. He's going to be that you know the the voice in the helmet. He's gonna be the guy with the green dot he's going to be calling the defense colin adjustments which is good. We need someone who's really good at that. We haven't had someone who's really phenomenal. At that sense james farrior. He might be the best at it. Sense james farrior left and that would be a significant addition to our defense in no other way. is joe schubert. The equivalent of james farrior. That wanted to be clear to say that in case people here that wrong thing. I'm saying joe schober is that good. He's not a but he's going to be the best. Probably you know that that calling captaining the defense. The james farrior dick from a linebacker position. He's probably be the best sense. James farrer left that we have doing that specific job behind him. Roberts he's he's like joe schober and i would not be surprised if they wanna give joe schober to a break. You know it would be probably like in nickel. Where roberts billion really fits in. Well roberts plays a great fit in the nickel defense At at inside linebacker. I would not be surprised to see him there where he can add his blitzing to the pile. Then you have some interesting players behind there. You've got ulysses gilbert the third. You've got marcus allen. And you've got buddy johnson buddy johnson the rookie draft. He looks good. He is more of a thumper he's going to be that guy who can who can mix it up in line take on blockers stuff to run. He's not bad in coverage either at least at the level he's playing now which is kind of the second to third string Players for the other team is what he's been facing and he's shown pretty. Well they're ulysses gilbert. The third loved what he showed as a rookie Loved it his first preseason. He looked dynamic. He got injured. He's a series of injuries. And he has he hasn't really developed and in fact this season you know. I'm still looking for him to get back to looking like that player. He looked like when the steelers had just drafted more. He looked so impressive. I don't know maybe his injuries means he's never going to get back to that ply being that player right now. He's in a battle with marcus allen. Just make this roster bush over explain are gonna make it a buddy. Johnson is is going to be very hard to knock out simply because he is a rookie and he is looking. Really good. Just not quite. Nfl for snaps on defense radhi. He looks like a guy that next year could really take a huge second year. Leap marcus allen. Played really good in very limited snaps against philadelphia. He is not anyone you want to take on a blocker. He is just get swallowed up by blocks but in space and particularly Like a dime back role where he is taking on where he's in coverage on linebackers and coverage in zone. He's really good. He showed some fantastic aggressive defense on running backs against philadelphia When he was in there against a pretty good rookie gain well for For for philadelphia. Who's a good receiver. he did a fantastic job manned up on him really fantastic work. He knows the defense. He's he's got the the i q side down..

"Same were the players involved and their personalities and how they on the team and all that stuff are involved a you can just sit there and look at their fit They would have been better off switching. Vince williams and joe schubert because joe chauve is a better fit in my opinion to be next to devin bush whereas what they wanted was more of a vince williams next two miles jack. So that gives you an idea. Why joe schubert is a great pickup for the dealers but also not the biggest loss for the jaguars because he didn't fit what they needed. So who is joe. Show over whether let's let's take a look at it real quick right Job has played a lot. He's been to a pro bowl and he's good across the board. There's not a lot of weaknesses when you look at his physical profile right when you look at his size his speed agility if you go back to the combine and look at those numbers. He's remarkably similar to roberts fillet. He's the same height they're roughly the same speed agility He's he was bigger. Then spelane coming out. When roberts plane came out of college he basically really needed hit an nfl weight room. And he'd right. So the difference. Between shelbert and roberts d'alene physically and their athleticism is very small schober. It's a bit heavier on his frame. Still i believe now than than Robert spelane is and that helps him in the run defense when you look at his film and you look at his stats. He reminds me of robert splaine. Just a little stouter against the run partly because he's a little bigger right if you look at their coverage stacks even if you look at their coverage stats from last season okay. Schober played a lot more then. Spelane did He was on the field for five hundred coverage snaps. Okay all this just just a disclaimer. All of these all these stats come from sports info info solutions Through their data hub tool. It's a free tool on the web. You can look that up but Joe show was on the field for five hundred coverage snaps where he wasn't rushing right where he was in coverage he was talking to forty. Two times gave twenty eight completions. Two hundred ninety three yards Came away with three interceptions. And one defended pass roberts blame played significantly less. He was on the field for one hundred. Fifty eight coverage snaps was targeted. Twenty three times gave up ten completions. For one hundred seventy yards had one interception three defended passes. Okay what does that mean. Well we can start with Robbers lane was targeted. Fourteen point six percent of his time on the field. Joe schubert eight point four percent us lane only gave up four point six five yards per target whereas joe shelbert gave up six point. Nine seven They both gave up right around ten yards per completion Splaine just had a much. Lower completion percentage against the shelbert dead. If you combine all of that you look at the non of yards. They gave up per cover. Snap roberts plane is point. Six seven yards cover. Snap joe schober is point. Five nine a little difference not ally there And spelane got two more passes went his way. He had one interception in roughly one third the snaps that joe schober got three but explain defended three other passes whereas joe schubert got to three hundred options and only defended so he both defended four passes. Which means blaine had a much. Higher percentage of targets that went his way that he enter the he. He broke up that he actually defected. Another part of splaine game that is considered one of his best attributes is his blitzing right. He does the. Ceo's call hug blitzing where he's on a linebacker that light or he's where he's a linebacker covering running back in man that running backstays in the block. He transitions into a blitzer. It's also the steelers deal with play action if you watch a play. Action pass and roberts is made up on the running back the minute. It looks like a play act like it looks like iran. He is charging that running back. He's going right for him and when he sees at the play action pass. He's still going for that running back. He's still going and they have to break off into coverage if the runningback changes routes Or if the running back turns to like help block someone else you blitz the quarterback if they turn him block you. Then you're match. You know you try. Beat him in and get in there. But that is how the steelers negate extra blockers when you keep an extra blockers to help block. T. j. watt cameron heyward steph onto it by debris alex smith when when you keep an extra guys to block those guys roberts blamed roberts d'alene rushed on fifteen point one percent of pass coverage of a pass plays. He was in on and he had an impressive. I mean ridiculously impressive. Forty two point nine percent treasury. That's incredible when he did a hug. Litz when he was that guy adding onto the blitz. he got pressure schober last year. rushed around eight percent of past about the past place and had a really good twenty three point three percent pressure rate. That's good splaine's better. So in coverage shelbert is a more proven a more reliable guy. The roberts spelane but if you look at joe schober and you look at roberts fling when he before his injury when he was playing his best. Football of two thousand twenty. You're talking about a very similar player. You're getting a very similar player again. Joe show bert is proven. He's done this year in year out and you may have heard The seals are talking about him wearing the green dot calling the defense. He's that guy that you want calling the defense before like. Oh does that mean devon bush. No it just means. This guy is better at devon bush than that specific skill. call the defense colin adjustment. Seen what the offense is doing. He's better than devon bush at that specific skill and really if he's better than he should do it right. Whoever's the best at it should do it if he's better than bush at that then yeah don't why would you have bush do it. Just because you're like oh bush was are. He's our number one linebacker. Well he's still our number one linebacker. Just joe chauffeur's gonna call the defense.

"Of the cutting room floor. First half we went over. What we we did an update on players. I talked about in a previous episode and we discussed a bit about the inside linebacker position in coverage. And how we're going to judge. Preseason basic basically saying. Don't judge devon bush and roberts bullying too harshly for how they played in philadelphia inside linebackers put in situations where they are on an island with athletic tight ends or wide receivers are going to get the they are going to be the mismatch on the field. That's that's not how the defense works in actual games. So now we're going to talk about the inside linebacker position and we're going to start with the big news the dropped during the preseason game at philadelphia and that is the steelers. Acquisition of joe schubert If you if you don't know that the steelers traded sixth round pick. Jacksonville is paying half of his salary for the season and he also redid his contract. Move some money around If you if you want to know all the details of that goto behind the curtain dot com. David dave scofield Those great articles on that he does a great job breaking down how those contracts workout and how they impact team in the salary cap and all of that stuff but basically for less than two million dollars on the salary cap this season which is a tiny hit and a sixth round. Pick next year. The steelers got joe schober for this season. If they wanna keep him after the season there he's got some pretty big numbers is numbers are not small so Yeah it's it's. He's unlikely to be a long term solution unless he is really just that good that they said okay. He's he's worth paying. You know eight million. I think it is for twenty twenty two so for the steelers. Getting joe shelbert. And when you look at the deal people are saying well. Kevin colbert just absolutely flees the jacksonville jaguars on this deal and we wanna look at that. Because oftentimes when it's like whoa. How did we get a guy for this cheap. You end up finding out you know what you got him that cheap because he's just not that good or or you know your your overvaluing them you know. Maybe it's not just the other team undervaluing him. Maybe you're overvaluing him. So let's give why he went to jacksonville. invited fit. Jacksonville has a linebacker miles. Jack who's of top athletes absolute stud in his athleticism and he's also a really good coverage linebacker and he's good at running. Hit football what. He's not great at is taking on blocks and run stuffing. If you can force the play outside he's gonna write him down if you can you know if he's in coverage he's he's incredible really good linebacker in coverage so the jacksonville jaguars are looking at this. We need to pick up a run stop. We need a guy next to him that can take on. Those ron stuffing abilities while still being able you know to be in coverage some and so they went and grabbed joe. Schubert who with the browns had had really good numbers for high tackles tackles for loss. The great you know Pf grades against the run and it was also in coverage. They paid him a big contract to be the guy next to miles. Jack who will allow miles jack to play strengths and really come into his own and be a top tier linebacker. What they found is that they did not get the player. They thought they were getting Basically job is not that run. Stuffer that you know the thing. Vince williams. He's not vince williams. He's not that dude is going to be like. Yeah you know i'm gonna. I'm gonna take on offensive lineman of beat them in the run game. I'm going to stuff a fullback in the whole get off of him and tackle your running back in the backfield for loss. That's vince williams. Right joe schober. Not that dude. He's much better in coverage than than than williams was and he's good run in run defense but he's not a run stuffer. He is not a guy who's going to free up mile jack to not have to to really worry about you. Know taking on blockers of being that guy in the run game so he didn't work out there and he had a big contract and basically the way it was up. There was a lot of guaranteed money for this season. You know when the new the new people came in took over the team. New coaches new systems. Everything you've got a lotta money locked into this player this season that you can't get out from under next season a season after that. His car pay is big enough and he's not worth it to that team. That has now suddenly young. He's not the guy. They thought they were trying. They were trying to get next two miles jack so basically they were going to cut him. He's gone either way. He's gone after this season. And so they were able to dump half of that money onto the steelers and get rid of him okay. That's basically what they did. They dump the player and dumped half. The salary on the steelers wasn't a great move for them. But it's understandable. Now what he brings to the steelers talk about this way all right. So he wasn't the guy they wanted next two miles jack. Let's compare miles. Jacket devon bush and for the sake of argument I'm just gonna let you just consider them to be roughly equal in overall talent. Blessed miles jack is is kind of like eighty percent coverage focus. Twenty percent run defense right. He's guy you wanting coverage every play and not really run defense ever whereas devon bushes closer to balance. He's he's really good and coverage but he's not miles jack level right. He's really good. But he's better against the ryan the miles jackass so even if if we consider the two of them even jaclyn miles jack would be the better coverage guy. Devin bush would be closer to balanced and better at run stuffing than miles jackass. Meanwhile the steelers had a guy. Like vince williams. Who if you're gonna if you're gonna do that. Same kind of percentile breakdown of run versus coverage on defense versus coverage. Vince ways would be like eighty or higher percent. Run defense and twenty percent or less in coverage While joe shelbert is more balanced so basically if before last season both teams had been smart. This has been like a madden kind of franchise..

"Looking at what. The pittsburgh steelers should use their newfound cap space for here in the twenty twenty one season. If you didn't already know the pittsburgh steelers have conferred even more money onto their books by restructuring the deal of steph onto it converting that money newest signing bonus and pushing that cap it further into the future a move that many thought would have happened way back at really at the start of free agency doesn't end up happening until here now in august. So what does that all mean for the steelers salary cap situation. Basically right now they sit at seventeen and a half million dollars cap space however. That really isn't the true number of how much money they technically have right now to. Really kinda break things down that seventeen and a half million dollars. Of course the steelers like to have some emergency spending money to go into the season. It's about five to six million dollars. Kind of goes towards that there also has to be a little bit more money it on the books from that rule of fifty one to the fifty three man roster of course adding two more contracts to that cap number on top of that really. There's a few things. The steelers need to take into consideration as well as building out their practice squad. So all of that will count to roughly around nine and a half million dollars or so so that leaves the steelers with upwards of eight nine million dollars of capable spending money again. Some of that will be kind of eaten up by tj. What extension however and. That's the first thing. I want to talk about the way the steelers new spend this money. Obviously by opening up a ton of cash a lot of people just instantly thought. Oh that's just going to end up in tj watts pocket really. That's not a hundred percent. The case tj water of course on the signing that signing air the fifth year option here in twenty twenty one so basically a new contract really isn't going to change too much of this year's capital his signing bonus could very well Depending on how much of that guaranteed money. Tj watt signs for however. It really shouldn't impact it salary-cap whatsoever really the potential. Here's for the steelers salary cap to kind of shrink but between one to five million dollars kind of depending how it all shapes up but most of the signing bonus money is really going to be stuff that hammers the salary cap in future years so while there will be some sort of impact here in two thousand twenty one especially with the size of the deal. It isn't something that we particularly have to worry about. What basically it comes down to now is the steelers will have about an extra six million dollars that they never have at this time of year and really that number could could grow even more with two pretty simple deals. First and foremost the steelers could create more seller cat by completing the final Salary restructure that they possibly could make here in twenty twenty one by restructuring. The deal of chris boswell which would open up a little more than a million bucks. Every dollar counts of course in the nfl but at this point it really wouldn't make too much more sense other than pushing more money into the future. The other thing the steelers could do and something i think is a whole lot. More likely is a joe haden contract extension and one of the reasons. Why it's more likely is because joe hayden and his agent have approached the steelers about basically putting a contract extension in place to have a deal. That joe haden can ride out the end of his career for and in doing so really. The steelers gained a ton of leverage in this situation because Joe haden saying he wants to retire steelers. The steelers aren't obligated to offer him a ton of money. Of course joe. Hayden is one of the highest paid players at his position in nfl history. So i there's also that sense prop joe hayden would be willing to take a significant pay-cut to continue his career with the block and gold and try to help win a championship for the first time in his career. So the potential is there for that and really if an extension is agreed upon and the steelers turn joins basically what's left on his contract in a signing bonus. The steelers could clear about four million dollars cap space. That hasn't been done yet. But if the steelers are really wanna be big game fishing like it. Kind of appears they are. That's a move. They could definitely consider making as of this moment. The steelers have about six million dollars in free cap space that they don't typically use at this point in the year to sign outside player or make some sort of secondary deal as in a trade. They could open up. Another million bucks by restructuring. Chris boswell and another and another up to four million dollars with joe. Haden sooners potential. The steelers could spend up to a eleven million dollars on outside players. That are not on this team at this current moment. How should the steelers spend the six million dollars or up to eleven million dollars is really. That's a big question surrounding us here. And now because really the steelers never needed to restructure that contract of steph onto to get t g what done so something is coming i. It really has to. Of course his team has been all in on the twenty twenty one season. The amount of void year deals put together Pushing a bunch of joe schubert's money. The newly acquired joe show bert into the future. Really what the steelers are doing is kind of pushing a little bit of the problem into the future but setting themselves up to be a significantly improved team and a team that will make a run at a title here in two thousand twenty one. So they're going right now. They're exhausting every option. They have the money they're going to spend it and really before. I continue on how they should spend that money. I know there's a lot of people saying. Oh maybe the steelers just wanna roll some salary cap over into twenty twenty two but hear me out on this. The steelers warmed to say money in two thousand twenty two. What's the point of restructuring steph onto to begin with by restructuring that money the steals are pushing cap it to next year. If they don't spend it then they effectively really haven't done anything at all. What was the point of all that. The point is to make the team better here in the future and the steelers have a significant amount of cap space. They do not normally have at this time of the year. So a couple moves that kind of makes sense for the pittsburgh steelers. Really you have to look up and down the roster quarterback the steelers have four guys that obviously they're very comfortable with and you're not finding anyone there. The running back room is stock to the gills. As is the receiver. Anti dan room. I thoroughly believe the steelers have trust in their guards and really there isn't any center that's is going to step in and kind of supply kinder- green is the guy especially here now at this point in the year the could be in the market for tackle and of course names will be something we check in a little bit later on the could be in on the tackle market. There are some free agents available such as a mitchell schwartz and they're potentially some guys available via trade so that is a spot to keep in mind defensively. The steelers are loaded on the defensive line. They're loaded on edge. They're loaded inside linebacker now they have one of if not the best free safety in the game and they have one elite corner in the joe haden and outside of that they've had some issues with the other cornerback spot which kind of seems like more of a competition than what we're expecting between camp sudden and james peer aside from that trail edmonds didn't get his fifth year option so potentially the steelers could be looking at to maybe adding to that safety room. Of course the depth spots that safety is not a strength of this team. Special teams wise. I would also say the steelers are quite loaded. So i i'm not. I'm not worried about them. Trying to find another kick returner gun or someone to run down the field. They have more than plenty of those types of guys so really the spots right now that you can kind of hone in on our either tackle spot but more namely left tackle corner and perhaps safety depth because the steelers right now. I think they're quite confident. And everything else they have on the roster but really once again the steelers have a ton of money that they still kind of put themselves in a situation to spend so something is surely coming down the pipeline. We will get into the names of the trade targets. They should be after in the second. Half of this podcast. But we're going to jump into a quick commercial break and we will be back in just a minute so stay tuned for the second. Half of the live mike. "One of those guys. That just looks older than what he is but he's athletic. He's a sideline to sideline player. He's very good in coverage he is someone that the steelers honestly they needed. We've all bemoaned. The fact of watching inside linebackers get put on tight ends running backs in the slaughter out wide getting burned. That is one of his strength. And so that's really good to know. In case you don't remember in november of twenty nineteen the game where myles garrett ripped mason rudolph helmet off his head and use it as a weapon against him it was not myles garrett. That was the best defender on the field. It was joe show bert. He had an interception. He was all over the football field. That was only two years ago. So if you're thinking well now is a long time ago schober. That was only two years ago if you need to go back and watch the highlights of that game. I don't recommend it but if you do you will see joe schubert. In what he can bring to defense said the next thing. Joe showboat is a sure tackler. He is not a player that is gonna dive at people's ankles. He is not someone that is going to shying away from contact. He is a tackler. He is a guy that will stick his nose into the mix and make the dirty plays. Sometimes when you get these linebackers that are more built for coverage they're more they excel in the coverage schemes. Sometimes you get them and you're thinking oh boy these guys are. They don't like that type of that type of game that's not show where he's a good tackler he and he's also very versatile. That's the next known that we wanna talk about. He is a versatile player. He can play either position on the inside. Linebacker depth chart he can play in coverage. He can play man he can play zone. He can play in sub packages. This isn't vince williams people. Sometimes when vince williams was out there they would have to say to him. Hey we gotta make sure. We don't get caught with vince williams on the field. That is something that was actually said vince. Williams had severe limitations when it came to coverage. That's nothing against vince williams. That's just who he was. Joe schubert is not that table player. His versatility can have him be on the field every single snap in. That's one of the reasons that on day. One on sunday when he was a practice for the very first time he was running with the starters. Now mike tomlin said after practice. This was mainly the you wanna test him. You want to see what she has so you throw them out there. I wasn't expecting him to be thrown out too with the starters. But that's exactly what the steelers did showboat after practice talked about how the steelers are planning on giving him the green dot the green dot. Meaning that is the helmet that has speakers in the ears so that the defensive coordinator or whoever calls in the defensive calls. They relay the calls to that player to players on the defense. Get the dot. But they can't be on the field at the same time so schober guy. They're expecting him to be on the field most of the time really interesting stuff. He's very versatile next. You talk about that high football. Iq when you're around the nfl for that long for six years and that's a long time. That's a long time you've been around played a lot of all year round that much football ye tend to pick up a lot of those little tricks of the trade. Maybe it's not just about terminology. Maybe it's not about xs does maybe it's about. I know how certain players play. I know what tibbs certain players do you just learn and and you can think about this any occupation anything. Think about the job that you have right now. I don't care if you're a busboy. At a restaurant. If you're at schoolteacher if you've been working in the business realm or work at a bank i don't care what you do think about the very first time you went into that job and then think about six years later you have learned things to make your job easier if you haven't. I'm wondering what you're doing at work. Because i can tell you that for me whether it's running. This website will use that as an example the first year iran iran behind the steel curtain dot com. It was a cluster. I kind of knew what to do. But i wasn't one hundred percent sure. I was always second guessing myself with headlines and the approach. And i never knew what was the right approach in now you just take go six years running it more than six years six years later my goodness i knew exactly what to do. Everything was streamlined. I had built a really great honest to goodness a great team and it became so much easier. That's the key has become so much easier and so for a guy like joe's schober who played for six years. Think about devin bush. He's going into your three. Schober has been around enough to know what to do to make his life easier. And hopefully he can convey that to players. Like devin. Bush and roberts splaine and things like that. So those are the knowns. He's a veteran. he's athletic. He's a tackler. He's versatile and boy talk about high football. Iq those are the knowns. But what about the unknowns. What about those things. we're not sure of. That's we're going to talk about right after this break. Stay tuned support for this. Episode comes from adidas. "During the steelers. Preseason game against the philadelphia eagles. But it's official now. Joe schober was at practice on sunday and he was there's a lot to decipher into diagnose with this acquisition in a lot of questions and so the question on the table is what does joe schober mean to the steelers. Twenty twenty one defense. What does he bring. well i broke. Cindy two categories the knowns and the and so we're going to break those down in the were also at the end towards the end of the show. We're going to talk about predictions myself. Dais go days not gonna join me but he gave me his list. We're going to predict 'cause people forget this tuesday. This is a new role in the nfl every week in the preseason they cut players down one at a time like five by five by five until eventually cut down to fifty three so this tuesday by four pm. The steelers have to release their list of players who have been cut in. We are to have to cut five guys. We are going to predict who those five players are. I've already seen the list. They're very different. I'll get to explain myself. Dave maybe a little bit but not so much and we'll see who's right and who's wrong. We'll see i don't know but let's get back to schober. That's what everyone probably wants to hear about. They wanna hear me talk about the fact that this is now a known commodity. We're no longer talking about reports. Were talking about a trade that happened. We know details about the trade in of itself so the pittsburgh steelers sent a sixth round. Twenty twenty two. Nfl draft pick to the jacksonville jaguars for schober in just on that. Just that alone. A lot of steeler fans rightfully so. We're thinking this is a really good deal. Good deal for the pittsburgh steelers in then and i even tweeted this out on my own you can go to j hartman h. a. r. t. underscore. Pita if you wanna follow me on twitter. I was driving home on friday. And i'm listening to the pat mcafee show on sirius. Xm radio and he had ian rappaport on ian rapoport was asked about this trade in rappaport said that as of now we meaning the insiders. The nfl insiders. The rappaport solicit rose the jeremy fowler's etc we have not heard of the jaguars picking up any of show birds actual contractors. That was rumored early on schober was owed seven point three million dollars this year from jacksonville and there were rumors that the pittsburgh steelers were getting. Help that jacksonville was going to give them help. It is now being reported by several different sources that the jacksonville jaguars indeed picked up about half of show birds. Twenty twenty one salary in the steelers were able to convert the rest of that early majority of that salary into a signing for schubert which decreases cap had even more. We don't know exact numbers just yet but as of right now. It is estimated that he's not going to cost them very much money towards this twenty twenty one salary cap good news for the steelers and it just makes the new even better so when you're talking about how the majority of steeler fans heard this all while the steals only had to give up a six round pick in two thousand twenty two for jobs you can come in and possibly start right away. Great move then you find out that the jaguars are going to be picking up some of the bill all my gosh even better news. Now just so. We're all clear. Let's keep this in mind when we talk about the twenty twenty two. Nfl draft. Michael beck road. This article for the website. The other day. I want to reiterate here in the audio platform. The pittsburgh steelers have already traded away three picks from the two thousand twenty two. Nfl draft. So we know that. He sent a fourth round. Pick to the miami dolphins in novels when they treated back into the fifth round to get isaiah louder. Milk outta wisconsin. They send a six round. Pick to jacksonville. You santa citron picked jacksonville and then they also traded a seventh round. Pick to the new york jets when they got avery williamson the one good news and the good thing here to keep in mind. Is it so far right now as we sit here right now and i spoke with dave scofield about this. The projected competence compensatory draft picks for twenty twenty two have has the steelers receiving a third and a fifth when you think about while they could have two third round picks. They could have to fifth round picks. Sure they don't have a fourth but they have that extra pit they can always move around. They can make some trades but they traded a lot of their second day three picks away. If you're someone that values those picks you're going to be kind of depressed. I'm not one of those people. I'm more of the people that say. Hey i want more day. One day two bakes. Do what you gotta do make it happen so far. They've done that unless the picks don't come back the way. they're projecting. the steelers should be just fine. If you're worried about the draft picks in the future should be just fine but let's talk about schober. I wanna talk about before we go into our first break. I want to talk about the fact that there are certain aspects of joe. Schubert's game that knowns. They're not a mystery they're not. Oh my gosh. What is this going to locally housing. They're unknowns occasion. We need to talk about these in in factual a factual stance meaning. I'm not saying why wonder if or what are they going to do. What's this going to look like. No these are things that we already know. So the first is that he is a veteran. He is played in the national football league for six years. And it just so happens. He said this after practice when he met with media on sunday that he has played for six years and he has been in six different defensive schemes during that time period that is. It's it's really horrible. When you think about what a player has to go through you never have the continuity of knowing the system and coming in and only having to learn the new wrinkles and additions that they put in but it also makes him extremely knowledgeable. He has gone from three four schemes to four three schemes to different responsibilities to me. This known factor that he is a veteran. I don't need to look at tackles and sacks in pass breakups that doesn't matter. He's a veteran and he knows the game a football. He's been around the block. I guarantee you when he came into practice on sunday on saturday by the way he just couldn't practice so he was meeting with keith. Butler and jerry olsavsky. Hey in talking with a lot of players. There's probably situations where in jacksonville maybe they called a blitz or a coverage jet coverage jet dog. I don't care. We co everyone but in pittsburgh they might call it blue zone. I'm just making up words here. People you know what i'm talking about though is just a matter of terminology. It's just a matter of them saying okay. I know what joe schubert. I've done this before i did this. In cleveland i did this in jacksonville. And he's able to just mentally work through the process faster faster than someone. That's like a rookie. Who's coming from four years at a college in they're not running pro schemes in terminologies. Totally do knew. The playbook is totally new. This is a known in a benefit of having someone like. Joe schubert on your roster. He's also really athletic. When you see pictures of my saw someone on twitter is pretty funny. They said schober looks like the dad of one of the players. He's yes he he doesn't..

"Steelers post game podcast with the pittsburgh steelers victorious again in meaningless football games as they beat the philadelphia eagles. Twenty four to sixteen at lincoln financial field in philadelphia pennsylvania on the wrong side of the state nonetheless here to talk about the game with us. As always dave scofield's dave absorb i. I gotta take a moment. I got a bit of a different background. You're probably saying it's not tuesday night. Yeah i'm actually at big rose house doing the show watching the game together and i. I'm sorry i hate to tell you this but if you don't have air conditioning. Why even bother to have electricity. I mean it is brutal right now so sticking but no one in this area as jersey. Because it's not like air-conditioning to it's in the mountains. I wonder if they would have electricity. But now we watch the game somehow but man in his roasting. But if you see me key over my brother a message all right we will and joining us for the first time on. The post game podcast. It's brian anthony davis with his new upgrade. Internet was brian. Yes i'll take any victory we can get. I love it. i'm feeling good and Yeah i have the same background. And i have no problem with that. And yet the the internet's a little better so there should not be a seventeen minute delay from the time you ask me a question to When i finally answers so i'm glad to be back and look at jeffey with the keystone. He's got a keystone that shirt. What's going on with that shirt. Oh it's a four one to you gotta love it. You gotta know. Which side is the right side in. Nineteen the correct side. All right to bring it up before. I the live chats. Go nuts right now. Five dollars a day. Dixon's is first time. The live chat goes dealers. Welcome day thank you very much Get this one up here nicholas. Gabriel two dollars went to the game. Didn't get a big press. Frowny face my gosh. that's horrible. I swear i mean what's really worse. Is the jordan bariatric. tonight And so it's tough. That's tough but go ahead happened. They gave him big. George very the whole game just like they did Didn't personally harvest has the second half. They didn't ask french. President over was the holder in the second. Half the he it was i got it was boswell would bury the first half and it was harvard and slow in the second half but they never put it into the same half anyways enough well for once. We're not gonna talk about punters too much. It was actually a some other stuff going on and a lot of this stuff happened right off the bat that had nothing to do with the game the fact that the rumors are swirling as i was driving home. I i'll be honest. I missed part of the first the philadelphia drive to start. The game missed it. I was listening to it on the radio I was at work at goes getting home late at a called brian and tell them that the game was on. Nfl networks. you can watch it and said listen do it And so all of a sudden the film iphone starts going nuts in its michael. Back say and rivers at the steelers are making a trade. Okay michael's been known to go off the a little bit. On some of the stuff's we were patient. And then all of a sudden it kind of came to fruition that navy this is true simpliciter of the nfl network team the steelers in the jacksonville. Jaguars reportedly trading for inside linebacker. Joe schubert formerly of the cleveland browns. Guys we all know. This is not official yet. Not official yet. This is just reported right now. Mike thomas asked about it in his post game press conference and just kind of said. I can't talk about that anything like that right now. Knee-jerk reaction on the trade rumors brian. We'll start with you go ahead. I have always been a fan of joe show. I'm really excited for this. Move so if it is a move. That's going to be fantastic. I love the fact that his wife came out. First and said yinzer really gonna love this one or something like that but she threw that out there so apparent i dunno. She's from the area were. If she's research yin's i don't know i would think that she is but we played in cleveland. They probably know what that is in. Now that that's true but how many times have we seen a solid effort from joe schober and especially in that that horrible game november fourteenth of two thousand nine hundred eighteen. How he showed up and he was he was just kicking the heck out of the steelers and doing so many different things. So i would love to st a guy like that when he was a free agent. Last year he was one of the top inside linebackers on my list in the free agent market watch and knew that the steelers wouldn't be going after him but in a trade. It's a completely different story. Now don't know we also don't know the rumor eating rumors of what the steelers are. Be giving up for it. but dave. What are your thoughts on the trade. Well couple of things first. Brian has been on record of loving joe sherbert when he was in. Cleveland wished he would pittsburgh. We can attest to that. I don't think it's rumors you guys were watching. Nfl network. so you were getting the philadelphia. Eagles commentators i watched okay day. They announced it on the tv really and talked about the trade. They are not going to do that if it is just rumors now. They haven't announced officially what what goes down for it seriously. If they if they talk about it on the show. I mean they brought up something on the screen about it and charlie batch and bob yanni were going on about it so i don't think it's a rumor anymore. I think that makes it that it. It's it's happening. I like it the fact that they i mean. Especially when you saw some of the the the inside linebacker play early in the hall of fame. Game you're seeing. It wasn't devon bush true but you kinda wanna see those other guys step up. What was crazy was there was the. I think it was the last drive of the first half of the it was when they got the field goal and they were. They were pinned deep.

"What is Belichick doing his draft we don't have a second round pick you know so that really limits to be said there were twenty three isn't that dark zone right where no matter what he does you know it's probably going to take a guy for next year's team I mean that's really the reality knows nobody wants to talk about it but most of the players but what you get outside at eight or nine guys they're typically for next year's team your draft and hoping you'll get something out of them but the real value comes next I think I'll take a guy with a great shot upside to at any position I got it he feels like has tremendous upside that they could bring into their system can really grow to be a size speed player at a position that they feel they need to fix on the football team but looking at the twenty twenty one to more than anything I don't see him traded up for quarterback let's see Justin Herbert's were to slip to ten or eleven they don't they have to give up next year's one to do it I don't think he's inclined to do that he after we get past because obviously boroughs going number one we think Herberton tool going somewhere in the first round and you mention Jordan loves a guy Miami likes they've got the extra first round picks of the next tier of guys Jacob Beeson big guys got the big arm from Jaylin hertz who was very impressive as far as wins and losses are concerning college what do you what's your what are your thoughts on kind of that second level of quarterback and where they go and how good some of those guys can be yeah that's a hard one you know like I'm not look I like to work you know I took a lot of heat from you know obviously boomers and his simple laws are worried about sure but I I'm I'm worried about you know pocket passer six feet tall you know Kenny do all the things that you got to do it in its own stay healthy I think that's a concern I think when you look at Jacob Beeson I think he's got potential to start to finish is you've got to correct in terms of his work habits and what he can do you know if the quarterback has to be able to do the things he needs to do off the field and on the field recent I don't know there's a kid named Jake Whitman from Oregon state and why I think is a really good got a chance to be a a circum what I call a circumstantial starter got it to come in and play but once I get past their other than toward love and hope I think you look at guys better down the line I'm not sold it hurts can play cornerback here's why one Alabama how to throw the football the denture that bothers me that bothers me a lot now and you could say well he went to Oklahoma if people study Oklahoma football team and study what they're doing offensively and how they run their offense it's highly run it's a lot of one on one chance options a lot of these heroes those throws don't come with you to the NFL I think it's going to be hard for him to control the football and make a living playing quarterback somebody's going to take him in the second round and it wouldn't be me we'll see how it works out to a Michael body of course the address tonight eight o'clock the first round the Indian SLR if this thing happens with the dolphins and they move up they make this deal with the choice to get the three how far down the line this corner drop where does he want out yeah that's a great question right so you got to think that you know I think you could go to the Carolinas Maureen on CJ Henderson they are anybody that Caroline has been in office right and Derek brown if you made it to them and whether he does or not you know it could go to Arizona I mean I was only due to court look Arizona is in the bottom twenty and twenty defensive categories Arizona ranks thirty or less there are bad on every single level of the defense now what they've done this offseason is they don't want to try to prepare themselves they signed some guys to try to help their defense but they they need another corner even though they drafted Byron Murphy there last year Patrick Peterson is a good player I think you could go there I mean if Jacksonville doesn't take the quarterback they're going to take a corner you go there as well miss you by Jacksonville because Gardner Minshew had you know a pretty good year last year and it feels like you've Gardner Minshew was a first or second round pick considering you only won six games he put up pretty good numbers especially when you compare to other rookie quarterbacks that the quarterback situation would be viewed differently but because he was a sixth round pick it's like yeah is he that good Jacksonville should go get a quarterback what am I missing on Gardner Minshew are they not as in love with him do they think last year was a fluke what what do you make of that with Minshew in Jacksonville I'm a little bit ranked twentieth overall in offense last year you know why on third down there were twenty six in the red zone they were thirty first couldn't put the ball in the red zone could put the ball in the red zone in the end zone and couldn't convert third downs I think you know certainly he somebody that you have to live and he's got a lot of moxie to a lot of talent in terms of what he was able to do but I think you've got to compare him is he better than to us is he better than her but that's the question you have to ask if even if you think he's equal to or similar to that you can't take those two guys right and I'm not sure I know the answer that I would guess the answer would be I like I think hope is better than Tyrod Taylor remember Tyrod Taylor was the guy the bills had on their team when they traded their first round pick to Kansas city because they had Tyrod Taylor intensity pick Patrick Mahomes look all of this all of this comes down to how do you evaluate your own teeth and how do you evaluate your player compared to the players in the draft so the beat that all right with that see see here's I'm curious about now I'm not suggesting anything crazy is going to happen with the giants but the giants loved Justin Herbert last year that's what we had heard it obviously didn't come out so there was no chance to draft in the draft Daniel Jones what a pretty good rookie year if they love Justin Herbert that much and they still do what are you doing if you're in that room in your Dave Gettleman you're you're not pulling the plug on Daniel Jones but if you love the Herbert that much what do you do on a night like tonight I mean I think you know look at the John Merrick made a decision last year with Dave Gettleman they went for the quarterback I think you've got to go I mean that's the problem I mean that's the problem you've got to be able to sit there and say if we turn this card and is this guy going to be good enough for us for the next eight years and and that's an issue and you got to know who the players are your I mean you turn the car if you're Jacksonville so you could to a but let's just say you pick two up until it comes in and he's got a red shirt is he better than Trevor Lawrence next year when you have the first pick in the draft are you going to trade away are you going to trade away from Travelodge because you have to think about that now you gotta ask yourself this question right right you gotta you gotta send it look we could draft two in Jacksonville this year right but he's got a red shirt he's he's gonna have to get himself healthy even if he plays Peyton manning played all you're gonna want to do right place round the first pick in the draft next year are we not gonna pick Trevor Lawrence why did it it's almost like you're making that commitment ahead of time to give your Jacksonville you take to a you're limiting yourself from Trevor Lawrence even if you're picking number one because why would you use a first round pick to take a quarterback who's not even get a plate then the following year could take another quarterback that's my point so you gotta ask yourself that question that's what I've heard all along that that Jackson was a defensive corner now lately there's been people saying they're more inclined to talk about the quarterback but you gotta make damn sure that the quarterback you take your team is not very good I mean your team was twenty fourth on defense last year couldn't stop the one you've lost a host of players off that team right and you signed Joe Schubert okay you side you know Rodney Gardner you side Tyler after you sign some players but you're not gonna get any better than that you're playing in a conference that's got the colts are pretty good whatever people think of bill o'brien he's only won the division five dollars six years right so he got the shot watching your pretty good football team and the Tennessee one playoff twenty playoff games so like are you really going to win the are you gonna win the south he was six and ten last year can you come back I think that's the fundamental question I don't know if Tony Kahn's asking a question he's completely fights on Twitter with the with and big white the reality of it is is that's what general managers have to do the future of the franchise if you don't ask yourself that question how do you really know what you're doing you're managing on a line item basis and anybody that manages on a line on a basis never can see the future you know you mention in the inequity and also Trent Williams and it suited these guys get traded tonight you know here's the problem a trend here here's the deal he's a really good football player and he still he could come in and give you three four five years a left tackle right it is probably better than all these tackles in the draft but they're all cheaper than him they're all younger than him so now the Redskins won a first round pick I gotta give you my one and then treat Williams wants another he wants to he wants another taste he wants a bigger contract so I'm double dipping like and what would you say that no I I can't I'm not doing that if the value comes down from the Redskins maybe I'll consider it but why would I do that why am I going to give you a huge asset and then reward the player this is one of the stranger so damn hard all right the two injury stuff I know that's what because you know boomer to yell at you and you defend yourself here's the bottom line if a guy is injured or there are injury histories and it's related to the draft we all want to know I want to know Joe wants to know every GM wants to know so how scared or nervous should teams be about the health of two well I think that look here's the reality and if you believe this and you know I do I believe past performance predicts future cheap that that's a model that I've always believed in the draft past performance to predict future achievements and if a guy has been hurt playing in thirty two games and a guy six feet tall he's not one of forty yet you know he's not run the.

"They got burnt over and over and over again. A guy like Joe. A guy like Cory Littleton can can provide upgrades in that regard and then maybe you bring in a second guy through the draft and all of a sudden. Your linebacker position goes from a weakness to strength put. Were you feeling on on on a linebackers? I like one of the other options you put out there Blake Martinez. I think that he's a really strong tackler. I think that we've seen in his career with the packers that he is somebody that can really kind of command a defense. And so I think that that's part of what the raiders need. And it's not that Joe. Schubert can't do those kinds of things but I think in terms of how the raiders can really structure their defense and really overhaul. I think that he might be a better option. But I first of all Cory Littleton. I think would be the best. So if we're not for taking off the table I would say Blake Martinez only wanted to for the the sake of conversation. In past episodes we have spoke about Littleton. So yeah but I like Blake Martinez a lot and I think like something that you alluded to your article. That was important to note was that he played a lot of games with a broken hand. So I mean he missed a lot of tackles how much of it is due in part to that and he was good at stopping the run. He was pretty. Good hundred. Fifty nine tackles was and I think the team had. Even you know the the official team stats. I believe had like near one. Seventy or over one seventy that's their stats of course So yeah he's a he's a you know when you talk about Miss Tackles eighteen is what I what I what I saw is playing with a broken arm. But he's also that shows you sometimes where it could be a little bit. Deceiving he's getting there Where baby guys aren't even getting there? So summa has mrs could be in situations where there wasn't even anyone there to make initial tackle so at least he's shows obviously a nose for the ball. WanNa be able to be able to dissect the run and get there and as miles alluded to he quarterbacks your defense and I think that's a huge huge aspect. He's such an astute player and is able to to make the calls and then you know he might not be the athlete. That corey is or even Joe. Shelbert is but you draft a guy that that can be that kind of an athlete. That could be a better fit as far as defending the pass and all of a sudden. You've got a really good quarterback guy that's going to be able to stop. The run is good enough in pass coverage and then you also try to add to the draft and elite pass cover linebacker and again now. All of a sudden you're linebacker situation goes for a weakness to stay very stable. I think sometimes people underestimate how much that matters being the quarterback of the Defense. Because vaunt perfect was that for the raiders for the first few games of the year and then of course he gets suspended for the rest of the twenty thousand nine season and so then that responsibility shifts satire. Whitehead. And you know. I don't want to disparage anything about your whitehead in his character and whatnot you know. He is a good guy but I think that someplace where the raiders knew. They needed to improve. And so that's why you put in will compton in order to do those types of things throughout the latter stages of the season. He's got better and it did so when you have somebody like that who you now say. Okay we'll compton. Can maybe a bridge to somebody else. But if you can go out in free agency and signed the guy that you want to be the quarterback of your defense and you because you already know that that's better and then you draft somebody in the. Maybe they grow into that. I've seen that before with the with the Rams where you had James Lauren. Itis he had been the quarterback of the defense for years and years and years and you drafted Algal Tree. He starts out as the outside weakside linebacker and then he grows into being the signal caller of the defense. That's how you can maybe transition those things and make them work very very well and then. Alex handed it over to Corey yes and. Then he gave it to Eric. Waddel Eric Weddell You know th this year but he even Corey's a guy that could quarterback you're I don't know that necessarily his strength and I think Blake is you know he's he really stands out in that regard and also on the field but off the field. He's a from everything that I've that I've heard He's tremendous in the in the locker room He's tremendous. He's a great guy to have around. So I know some guy you know. There's there's fans out there that are knocking him for his athletic ability. Sometimes that can be exposed. But you're not going to get a perfect player. Necessarily he brings so much to the table that I think gets overlooked sometimes by fans and and that's why I put him on that. Lets US forth on my list But but there's no question that he provides an upgrade over what the raiders had last year. Someone else I'm curious about and I WANNA get your both of your takes on this guy. Patrick Queenie's a name. That's been coming up it when you look at the. Nfl MOCK draft database sees somebody they played for Lsu Championship game. That's something that Obviously Mike. Mayock and Jon gruden looked at a lot last year when they were kind of looking over their picks. What do you think about him as a fit? He's a guy that's you know. Had A fifty. Nine Solo tackles with Lsu. He's had a good share of fumbles and putting pressure on people. So what do you think about him and how he might fit in? I think he's a strong athlete. First of all I think when you watch what he was able to do not just in the championship game but in the run up to the championship game you see somebody who is a thumper who can come up and hit you who can run very well and that's what you need out of the linebacker position you need athleticism because these running backs are really really tough to cover you. Talk to guys about trying to cover. Alvin Kamara it is one of the most difficult things you can do. Because he's on these option routes coming out of the backfield so you don't really know which way he's going to go but you also have to be able to tackle him so there's a lot that goes into that and I think when you have that kind of linebacker yes each somebody that's young somebody that can run any somebody that can grow. That's probably a solid fit for if you want to overhaul your linebacker position. Why don't you think they're gonNA want well? They do want to overhaul the linebacker position but they have to. I think had the only regular player. That's that's even under contract for next year so so just in that sense. It's going to be a whole new crew and it has to be a whole new crew because that was like we talked about a weakness and I talked to Mike Mac. About it at the at the scouting combine. They know that they need to add. Explosiveness playmakers Dependability production at linebacker. And some other positions we've talked about Kyle Duger Last on the last show the The division three safety and in today's NFL We're seeing more and more were safeties are being able to come down to the line of scrimmage to play that de facto Cover linebacker so You know it might come from that kind of Ended in in terms of the draft. You might get a safety. That could play both ways linebacker and safety to be able to help in the past coverage because as miles alluded to covering these running backs nowadays by linebackers is. I'm not going to say it's impossible because obviously there's guys that can do it but it is really really hard and that's why you're seeing more of these safeties that are coming in and there's a lot of teams out there. Now that are playing safety sets because they're asking those that third safety to be that Kinda linebacker quote safety. That's going to be able to stick with running backs and tight ends out out of the Backfield to play. Madden quite often and I do love a good safety blitz and the more you can get up there and through a safety bullets in their Something I wanted to do before we wrap things up here is discussing a tweet. They came across on my timeline and this was last week when I had asked the fans about what they thought about the whole. Tom Brady incidents and somebody had said that. If the raiders. Take Tom Brady that. There is no way that they could still be a raider fan despite all the Times that the team has moved on them. And this goes back to the TUCK. Rule Where you're in Charles Woodson forces the fumble and then it said that it wasn't a fumble because Tom Brady was talking it in and That cost the raiders. I obviously advancing into the Super Bowl. So when you look at that as something that Raider fans take to heart still how do you think Raider fans would take it? If Tom Brady were in fact brought into the team do you think the a lot of fans jumped ship. Do you think a lot of fan. So hold a grudge. I think fans jumped ship. I think the fans not only grudge. I mean like so long ago I I understand that people have long memories in terms of in terms of football but I think maybe it's it's one of those things where Oh man we signed Tom. Brady Tom Brady this. Tom Brady that and then like if but once you know he starts winning games. Who CARES I go back to In the late great Kobe Bryant. I still can't believe I'm saying that right now. sadly but There were Laker fans who didn't accept Lebron James initially because they were quote unquote Toby stand exactly Kobe versus Lebron in that area. And it's like you know that would be like if the Lakers had gotten Larry Bird back in the day you're not going to accept Larry. Bird played for the Celtics. Obviously you take Larry Bird if he's available. Obviously you take Lebron James and you forget about all that nonsense first of all. It's not Tom. Brady's fall. It was the referee's fault or however the referee called it so to hate him on a play that he was just making the. I mean he was just out there participating. It wasn't his call. That's just irrational to me. And if he comes in here and does well and wins I think that even those knuckleheads that would dislike him for that reason would come around eventually all right so that'll do it here on the Vegas Nation podcast brought to you again by S. T. N. sports mobile by station casinos and also presented to you by untuckit. Guys make.

"Jeff. Alright everyone we are back. It's sports overnight. America Guy At as you know. I'm from Cleveland. Ohio different competing serves on the by the way I. Oh I'm GONNA give you a lot of these flavor on this program and that being said yet year. A lot of me. I think I've reach out to Brandon Wolf from Brown's access and you can follow him on twitter at Brandon Wolff C. L. E. Brandon without further ADO. Welcome to the sports overnight America program. I'm assuming this is your Sirius. Xm debut it. Sure is Thank you so much for having me drafted. I love getting opportunities like this. Just being able to get on here and talk about the browns. All right I mentioned the twitter handling mentioned Brown's access. So what else do you have going on that. You WanNa get out there before we get started. Well actually tomorrow or Wednesday I am debuting. My podcast called the bark of rounds rounds. I just WanNa be that voice for a lot of these Browns fans. I sure I'm sure everybody's seen them that there. And the browns after after rough rough law this rough loss against the rams the roth loss against the titans I just wanted to be the voice of reason for these browns fans. That's overreact and yeah yeah I mean really. That's what I'm working on right now browns podcasts. But podcast it'll be on apple podcast spotify. Who Will podcasts everywhere you can find it? Abraham your replaces than I am I. Congratulations on your getting out of the chute with your media career. I'll start a little cleveland. Browns coming off the twenty two thirteen defeat feed of the On Sunday night football against the Los Angeles Rams Defending NFC champions. I have bigger survey field. You know kind of struggling to meet the expectations. That data were Pratt. Perhaps settle artificially high this off season. I don't think that Lebron's anticipated being wanted to but are realistically when you look at it. They were expected to beat the jets. They were expected. beat the titans and they were not expected to to Possibly defeat the Los Angeles Rams though we were looking at weeks three without knowing what we wanted to or when we made those types of options I wanted to through the first three games of the season. What's your assessment? I know you don't want people jumping off buildings over this just yet. Oh yeah definitely not I I I think that we set a lot of expectations on a rookie head coach in Freddie Kitchens and second year quarterback I think that one thing we is browns fan. Taft to realize is that there are such things as sophomore slumps. And we hate to see it but our quarterback's probably going through one right now. It's just about settling in and doc. I mean as much as we hear it on the radio. We hear it on twitter. We hear it everywhere Baker and Obi Jane Landry this is only the third game playing together together ever so you gotta give them time to settle and you gotta give Baker time to to get used to playing with guys like Ob. Ajay and OBI Jason Insane talent but you can tell when Baker out there. He's trying to force feed all the OJ. Sometimes he's he definitely he isn't looking the way he looked last year where he would just throw it to throw to the open guy rather than four-seat somebody but I think that we I mean if we week one. Nobody's complaining right now. And that's that's I mean we can play the game all we want but I mean if we win week one. Nobody's upset that's something that week one victory though it sounds simple enough but you'll browns fans that no you know since nineteen ninety nine one of those only app one time right so i. It's a little frustrating but You know you mentioned Odell Beckham Junior acquired via trade For Jibril peppers and really I think that when it was all said and done of Beckham and Vernon came over in the same trade that shipped out Kevin Zeitler light learn Djibril peppers. I would say that there's really nobody missing Djibril peppers in that defensive backfield especially with Gregg with Greg Williams playing him thirty yards is off the ball and we actually saw lovie. Jay Byrne Jamal Adams playing that same angel position with the browns. Play the jets on Friday. Yeah that's for sure. Nobody's missing peppers. I'm not sure if you saw this clip but the giants had the giants. I mean their defense got a believe it was an interception and they were going full force. The House ready to take it home each bro Peppers shove the guy with the ball to the ground. And they ended ended up screwing them out of a touchdown. Since you mention this you mentioned that That I see that same thing happened with Joe. SCHOBER Brown's pick they've oracle the recovery. But this gets the tackle on that playwright man that was it's so upsetting because you knew he was. Who picked picked that off? I can't remember whoever picked it off. You knew he was taken to the house if Joe Schubert didn't get in his way to carry. Maybe I think was care. Sure yeah okay. Tj I really think that you know. The browns injury are kind of a kind of a blessing. especially if you maybe conceded this rams game anyway to see you know without without Burnett without Randall. Without word What this back of defense could do and they certainly got berthelot underneath on the you know Goff to cop but gough the COP has been torching teams for years and they they limited brandin cooks. It seemed like they had todd. Gurley check I I would say the Dick job at the very least got later. Oh Yeah for sure. There was somebody I was really surprised about. I mean we hear about the La Rams. And I mean they. They looked like a good football team. But the browns didn't look like a much much worse football team in the rams. Were I mean I said before you watch the game you think Aaron Donald had a lot more of a presence than he actually did. I mean he had one sack. I believe we had four tackles the whole game but when you watch the game just felt like He. He was in Baker Stacey every single play and I mean todd. Gurley really. Wasn't that much. Wasn't that much of a factor in that game as well. I mean like you said it kind of seemed like they had him on some kind of snap counter. They just had him in check. As the browns has been the browns biggest just weakness. Today I got I mean as much as I want back Freddie Kitchens. I have to say coaching. I mean you heard the press this conference with Freddie at the end of the game on on on Sunday night where he said I should have ran the ball. Well Yeah you should run the ball but you can't come into the press conference AH press conference afterwards and say hey I should run the ball in the moment you have to know. Hey I shouldn't run the ball one of the three times it. We had it down there within twelve yards the goal but not not not on for the night and not in the form of droplet exactly it was frustrating and I really liked. Ready are really want him to succeed. Eighty really feels like now. This is where things get a little mixed up with me. Because I'M GONNA I'm GonNa say you'LL WANNA voss but a really should be saying one of you I haven't lived lived in Cleveland since I've lived in northeast. Ohio since two thousand and one but the Freddie gets you've heard of the gets US meter where Komo gets the fans. Yeah yeah I mean that's exactly. What Freddie is? We have these but the penalties I mean. Who Do you put the penalties always? Put that on that coach always and I mean it's rough because that week one was atrocious as far as penalties go. I mean that's literally it cost us the game. We cut those penalties in half. We beat the titans you know so. It's hard to imagine a racially thirty thirty point deficit but I I think that's a legit conversation. Sure Oh yeah for sure for sure I mean you. You don't have Greg Robinson out there trying to make. WWe Mix tape. And I think the whole the whole thing is fine. You know. Greg Greg Robinson's decent reclamation project. I mean you're never gonNa have which had reappointments yet when you had Alex Mack and Joe Thomas Holding Government Office see see. That's I always.
