I keep getting tweets that it sounds different. It's definitely does. Really sounds like. Does it? Yeah. Bent, bent, hit me up. Dude. You're doing a spot on impression of Wolfman Jack this morning. Scott going with the manly voice, I hear Dory. Hang in there. The mantle as opposed to my normal voice. Apparently. I don't just a little. Up does it. Yeah. I could be I could be maybe that is it. I am I final tonight here in Minneapolis, Virginia and Auburn South Carolina played Virginia and they played Auburn twice. Frank Martin head coach of the Gamecocks knows these two teams. Well and joins us now that shell Pennzoil performance line. Coach it's great to have you with us, man. It's you know, you know, these teams. Well, you know, Tony Bennett, you know, Bruce, obviously when you look at this semi final, and what you can gauge from these teams what older Bentley will determine which team goes onto Monday night. Doc about two completely opposite styles. Dari? I mean Bruce wants to press, and they're going to shoot a three from five different places in India should the first one they see Virginia wants to play three point line and defense and. And then all things you're three guys are gonna shoot the ball. And they each Tony tries to control that. So it's two completely opposite styles. And and it's going to be a an incredible thing to see now at the end, I think Virginia's so physical on the frontline that went out to mile KiKi to be major problem for proper when you look at it Frank you're in two meetings, you rent matches split with them. What were you able to do in the win against Auburn that you weren't able to do in the loss? We scored enough. I don't mean to be funny about it. We scored enough. We are my my best guard couldn't play the game. We lost in the game. We won he did play. And I mean both games defensively. We will pretty good. We're really physical. And then the beat Auburn you gotta get on the offensive glass that keeps him from running. That makes them stay in and have to rebound and kind of slows down a little bit. And we're fortunate in both times that we did that the second time we just couldn't score enough. South Carolina, head coach Frank Martin joining us story and Mel ESPN radio. I'm sure that you've watched enough of all for these teams to to to to have a pretty good idea of what might happen tonight and on Monday is it is there one team coach that you feel should be a significant favorite to cut down the nets. When it's all over. Wow. I just think it's Virginia. Turn this is my opinion the way they handled last year the way Tony handled. It the way that that team is stuck together. The, you know, Michigan state Virginia and Auburn they basically had to save team for three years. Texas Tech also has four fifth year seniors, but I just think it's it's Regina stern. I think the heartache of last year they're being down at halftime. The first game this year and the resiliency to to to just kinda smile at the situation and be able to move forward. And given the fact that they got two guards that are unbelievable. Tiger own gets does not get the credit. He deserved. And then guys like just an automatic three pointer. I got a feeling it's for Jimmy star. Yeah. You'll get hydro. You're right. Coach, thirteen assists. Compared to three turnovers is play making ability has been outstanding. And you look at that team. And we did a a hot list on the key guy. The guy in the term moving forward. The final four who is the key guy for Virginia. If this player doesn't come up big they would be vulnerable to Auburn. I think it's card your own. You know, Kyle guy's gonna make his threes. And and it's not that take away from him. But they're gonna have to handle all bridge pressure. That's gonna fall Taiji Rome and not just handle their pressure in the back court, but be able to get into offense and make the right plays in Auburn, not very big at the rim. But they're good shop lockers and tied your own was the guy that plays off the dribble for them which creates the open threes and the dump off to the bigs and the officer rebound opportunities because when you driving miss your shot, that's the officer rebounds common. I think it's it's all intact your won't chance. Just a couple of years ago coaches we chat with Frank Martin head coach of South Carolina. You guys went to your first final four here. You've got Auburn and Texas Tech in their first final four Virginia essentially there for. I mean, it's the first it's nineteen Eighty-four. What do you remember about doing this for the first time that might have been the biggest challenge just about the moment, the spectacle, and all that goes into this? Not not to make Mel kind of chuckle over here. But like a football coach, you know, basketball, you're trained to play every three days. And so there's a routine to season put you in all of a sudden you win the your region, and you got to wait seven days to play. And by the fourth day. I was jumping out of my shoes. I was tired of watching film. I'll started watching Zog on film. I was over analyzing things and just so anxious for the game to get here. But that that's the one I'm comfortable thing that that I felt there at the end. But I I built tower said to me enjoy the journeyman don't don't don't get. So wrapped on in in in the whole pressure of winning. He says you're already in it and your the journey because you can be very successful. And never be on this on this, right? And again, that's where it was over. Sorry. Melrose winner was over coach. Do you feel like you enjoyed it enough? Absolutely. I I it's a week. That'll be with me forever and ever. I have an issue. And I said this right after as a final four, I haven't it's now that there's only one way to that get that each to go away and that inches I wanna play on Monday down there. And that's that's not going to go away. It's it's something that there's only one way to fix it. And it's an it's it'll stick with me forever and ever if I'd never get the opportunity, but I enjoyed every second of it. It was an unbelievable week for me. An unbelievable moment for me and one that that you know, I could sit back and say I was a part of something and not too many people that are a lot better at distant me wherever they were able fortunate enough to be per coach before we let you go. We've been talking about about pressure and ten seconds which team is under the most pressure right now to win. I don't know. I don't think that once you get to this stage. Mel, I think all that pressure goes out the window. I think the the elite eight game is where all the pressures that you're going to say pressure. You know, maybe Virginia again because they've been number one in the country basically for two years in a row, and and they have to they don't have to. But for the world to completely forgive them of last year's game, this knowledge, the fact that they've been the number one team in the country. Always good to talk to you coach. Thanks so much for your time. This morning. Thank you guys. Great out. There is head coach of these South Carolina Gamecocks Frank Martin, by the way, coming up twenty minutes from now one of his best friends, not just in the businessman in the world, anti Kennedy gonna join us. Former ole miss coach AK is here with me in Minneapolis for the SEC network. And then when they're over make sure you catch the post game interviews and analysis of the final Ford preview of Monday's national title game. You get that game night on ESPN radio tonight at eleven o'clock eastern time. I'm here in Minnesota. It's cold, it's cloudy. It's dreary. It's a good thing. This thing ain't being played outside. Mel, man. But give you the buzz of the first few days here, and we'll dive into what we're most looking forward to watching tonight when these two games finally get going. I hear what Frank San. I mean it. I mean, I've been here since late Wednesday. It feels like I've been here a week talking about what we will see or what we might see before we've actually gotten a chance to see it is time to just tip. This thing off. Goodness. We'll go there. Sirius XM channel eighty were always presented by progressive insurance. Guests till the shell Pennzoil performance line as Mel man, it is time for straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones. Best networks, no contracts. There is no Duke. There is no North Carolina. There is no Kentucky the no Kansas. The blue bloods are out. Michigan state ten final fours now easily the most in the field Virginia's got three. But none since nineteen Eighty-four. There is no final four history for Auburn. There is no final four history for Texas Tech in your mind. Is there a a diminished level of interest because of the relative newness of this particular? Oh, four group. No. I think when you look at at the fact that we've had history with Regina Ralph Sampson watching the game you have Charles Barkley heavily involved with Auburn, though, you you have Magic Johnson heavily involved with Michigan state, obviously, Texas Tech. I don't see anybody there. But in terms of that, but you have the the prior stitch superstars routing on their team. You don't have in terms of number one sees outside of Virginia. Michigan state's a to Texas Tech three. Auburn's a five toes. You the match up with the teams in your regional is a lot more important than where you were seated too much time. I think is spent talking about where team is going to be seated leading up to selection Sunday. I don't think we worry about that as much as maybe some people think you should I think having a lineup dominated by freshmen who are elite high school recruits doesn't guarantee you anything Kentucky as one championship under. Cal one Duke landed the top three recruits in the US bien one hundred last year Barrett. Williamson reddish. They're not there right now, they didn't even advance to the final four Duke had the four of the top eight recruits in two thousand seventeen they all do advance to the final four as I say Kentucky with one championship with all their freshmen. So again, we get all hyped and excited about those teams with all those star power, and they haven't been able to get it done. And again, you get some of these veteran teams have guys who have been there for a while. They tend to to have a chance to have a little bit more success. I think we've seen that. I think it's great to see teams overcome adversity is Michigan state and Auburn have to get here. We have Cinderella's we have a team that it's amazing with auburn's been able to do just win last week without aqui was phenomenal. And I don't think we gave them much of a chance even to win that game. Let alone the win another game here tonight and then the championship. Are you kidding me? That would be three wins without a great player. That's unbelievable. Interesting though, we talked about this yesterday a little bit on TV that game. Auburn virginia. You got two coaches making their final four debuts in the last twenty years, and this just kind of goes to the newness of this little bit in the last twenty years. Well, man, this is only the fifth match up in the final four where you've got two coaches that have never coach in a final four game before going head to head. How about that? And none of the previous eight coaches in those other four matchups went on to win the national championship. So Tony Bennett, Bruce, Pearl tried to do something that nobody has done before, you know, here in Minnesota latte yesterday over the course of the day all four teams had open practices. There were. At least twenty thousand fans inside US Bank stadium to watch it. And they set they set one side of the stadium. It only once but that side the entire lower level and part of the upper level was full this twenty to twenty five thousand people just to watch the practice. So you say, okay, wait is there any buzz here? I tell you what I saw some opera people. I saw a lot of green as you would imagine geographically Michigan state's gonna people here. I saw some Virginia people. I didn't see many Texas Tech people. Now that doesn't mean they're going to be here. Anyway, maybe they will. But I there there's a great local interest in the final four. And that's the other thing, you know, you go to these cities. And I I mean, I'm looking around and in that building I see a ton of golden gopher stuff. A of Minnesota representation. Well, they haven't been to a final four since nineteen ninety seven. I think it was. But it still an opportunity for fans that don't often get to see this to come and see this before time, Minnesota's hosted the final four last time. It was in Minneapolis was two thousand one. So again, like I there's going to be a good buzz here. And you're going to see it. You're going to see it on TV the building will be full. But I was talking to overlay. You say, okay. Are they coming are the fans coming? I don't know if Texas Tech fans are coming. I assume that they will I've seen some but the Auburn fan I was talking to their sports information director Kirk yesterday. He said there are yesterday there were three planes full of Auburn people that were coming here yesterday. Another one coming here today, they sold their allotment of thirty five hundred tickets, plus a bunch more that they sold on the secondary market. You got this isn't a convenient. Final four, you know next year is in Atlanta. Imagine Atlanta extra with Auburn in Virginia. Right. You don't know Texas Tech, even this is out of the way. But you're going to see I think because of the newness of this a heck of a buzz in the building get Virginia thirty five years since they've been here. Auburn Intech never have before. I think that's a special thing. And I think that's gonna come across. Now, I wonder if. Let's say Texas Tech in Virginia win today. What's that over under going to be on Monday one twenty with away? Those teams wanted to fit will the buzz go out if there's not at least a Michigan state in that championship game. I don't know. I guess we'll find out if Michigan state doesn't beat the red raiders Michigan state has great defense as well. So you have three defensive teams. I think you're right. I think when you look at the the the fact that all the conferences, except the Pac twelve a represented in those prize pack, twelve isn't. But everybody is. So I think that from just a TV rating standpoint, you add big twelve big ten SEC ACC all involve you get the rooting interest for your conference pride standpoint. I've said it all along and Frank brought up Frank Morton brought up Virginia that the pressure's on because what happened last year. They almost got bounce early this year here. They are. Everybody told us the most vulnerable centime of the ones is Virginia one seeds and here, they are right. They're getting a great match up against eighteen that doesn't have their star. And has some guys who are battling illness right now. Three players, right. Pearl. If that doesn't say you're six point favorites. If this doesn't set up Virginia to get to the championship game. It never will. So the pressure to me a squarely on them to finish. This thing off. You got a great. You're all here. You're gonna team. That's kinda limp in. Yeah. Yeah. Finish it. Michigan state. Same thing. It Texas that hey, good basketball team known for defense. They got the star in Culver. But you're Michigan state. You've overcome things you're only a two and a half point favorite Dickey vs. Got Michigan state others have Michigan state it sets up for Izzo getting the championship, and finishing all then you would have a Michigan state Virginia which both chalk that I move on. And then we'll see what happens that could be active a defensive struggle as well. But I think if Texas Tekere Auburn or in that championship game either going to be some very disappointed cavalier and Spartan fans who've really felt that everything's set up perfectly from Michigan state in Virginia. I I think Michigan state more. So I think Virginia. After what happened last year gets you in BC what almost happened this year against Gardner Webb, and they were double digit again to a sixteen if they lose to an Auburn team the twin twelve in a row, they'd be disappointed. I don't think they would see that as a failure Dari. But it's like team that doesn't have a KiKi and has three geysers under the weather. That's huge. So it's not all burn team. This is a team that is not one hundred percent. And you're a six point favorite. I gotta believe Virginia now because at this forget the twelve wins. I throw that out. This Auburn got the victory last week. Give them credit get another one here. I think to me if I'm Virginia fan, I would be tremendously disappointed straight talk wireless, nationwide coverage on America's largest and most dependable four G L T networks mel's latest draft buzz next radio, you wouldn't settle for a two star spin class a personal trainer, would you? Officially Melman dorey fell ESPN radio ESPN app. We'll be in Nashville in less than three weeks for the NFL draft three weeks from Thursday day, one round one of the NFL draft in nationals read about. Issue some trees in Nashville, right? The NFL is how we're gonna. We're gonna move some of these historic trees along the riverfront Nashville, not well, okay? We'll replant a whole bunch of trees around the city. I don't know if they ever came to resolution there Melba, but they'll wherever they put us, right? Yeah. Exactly. We'll be getting ready for day three. Yeah. Amazing. How quickly this is sneaking up on us. But a lot of things have been happening. Dr pro days have been wrapping up. We're getting a lot of talk about the Arizona Cardinals and trading. Josh rosen. What are you? What are you hearing? You had people the Redskins. You had heard were could be interested. Then there was talk. Well early on bulletin New England be interested as narrow parents Brady. Now, it's more about the Redskins. It's kind of circle back. The Redskins like splash moves they have Colt McCoy case keenum, Alex Smith injured would they make that move up. The fifteenth pit isn't that hard to figure this thing out door? It just goes back to what you're scouting report was on Rosen last year now. What what he did with the cardinals? Roth Audie held zone. Look at the stats who as awful, bad bad. Okay. And he had his moments where he looked pretty good. Now. There's moving forward is it going to be durable? Is he he loved the game or just play because he can with a bottom line is. That's the case collar Murray says next Patrick Mahomes, it shouldn't be that hard from a common sense standpoint. To figure out why zone and Kingsbury would take Murray. And if you're fifteen are you gonna take Daniel Jones or you better off what rose when we talked about that? I would go Rosen. We'll see what the Redskins do. Or is there another team out there? It doesn't seem to be the giants. They don't everybody says they're lukewarm of I don't know if they are. That's what everybody says I don't get into that stuff. Because nobody knows for sure except they've Gettleman how they feel about the Wayne Haskins internally he loved Daniel Jones enough to say we'll pass on Haskins at sick. They Jones at seventeen. And is there a guarantee Jones would be there at seventeen will see the Redskins that they don't get Rosen could take Jones at fifteen that'll be intriguing. The other intriguing thing and Peter King. Brought this up I think it was Peter or the product up this week about. What happens with this whole trade is better than wait until draft night Thursday night to make a move just from just intrigue Sam because once that trades may Dr that trait happened today, you know, Murray is going there's no buzzers spent not remember the great suspense. We had last year Dallas hall with Cleveland. Would it be Baker could really take John Dorsey? Didn't anybody know Johnson? Good friend of mine. I don't think about Joe's John barren. I do John would tell me the morning. I didn't ask him. So he made sure you I'm not telling you. So don't even ask the gentleman gonna ask you anyway. I know you're not telling me, but he wasn't saying and everybody was still speculating all that stuff because he didn't allow it to be known. He could have because he had the number one pick, and he won trading it. Okay. So he could have very easily said three weeks. So that's going to be Baker Mayfield. He didn't. And it was suspense. What happens with Arizona? Do they make that trade that he then what happens there, then you get into pro days starry pro days now who are they important for well underclassmen because you don't have measurable on them or guys who obviously the speed thing is going to determine where they go. What's the conference story? We don't talk a lot about there's a conference out of the west coast. They've been a complete non factor in a couple of major sports of late. I don't even remember the name of that league. It's a search of the P eight and it was the pen. Now, it's a pact. Well, great s appearing super conference. Yeah. That's like a where are they? Well, they had JJ are Sega Whiteside. They cardinal. We liked them. Right. Three hires at Stanford. He's got one hundred and thirty five receptions over three year period. Average. A whopping sixteen point four yards a catch and he at twenty eight touchdowns during that three year period. He's six two two hundred and twenty five pounds, very long arms. Come to power forward mentality of a receiver. I had a GM say to me. Well, if the runs four five five or better could be a high second if he runs four six or slower late second third round. That's how important the forty time for JJ. Sega Whiteside was all counts he's right around four four eight four or five that's below four five five last time. I checked that means high second not third round. So that was big for him in a year where there's some really good second third fourth round wide receivers. He now is climate up now because of that forty at six to two twenty five and the production into. That early second round area. Maybe ahead of AJ Brown. Ole miss maybe had an Akil Harry, Arizona state or deebo Samuel, South Carolina or Paris Campbell, Ohio State or miles boykin Notre Dame. Okay. That's the group now that he may send a head of some of those guys because of this pro day for JJ Sega white great for him right for JV David show on Stanford. And we'll see if he in fact becomes an early to mid second round draft choice. Now, you got me thinking about the Pac twelve year Doria male ESPN radio ESPN app. I mean is they are sitting and watching the final four today all four major conferences of the power five. The other four are all represented. I mean, it just from college football to the lack of Pac twelve influence in the playoff to now in the final four. We've got the ACC the the big twelve and the big ten, and there is no Pac twelve represent. I'm telling you. My goodness. Larry Scott company out where are you where in the world? I just I'm not a pack twelve guy. Obviously. I mean, you know, but can we get some representation in the major of major college sports from your league? There's so much work to do out there right now. It's just if I'm a pack. I'm depressed ups. I'm able to watch the final four. I'm just so aggravated. You're not a factor in college football. You're not a factor in men's college basketball team in the women's final four Oregon today. Got knocked out last night. It's just my goodness. They need you know, what they need league needs some flowers mail. You never never goes out of style surprising friend, a loved one or the Pac twelve with buy one. Get one free multicolored Rosbach as for twenty nine ninety nine from one eight hundred flowers dot com to order gonna one eight hundred flowers dot com slash ESPN. By the way, I'm not trying to dis our friends the big east. I realized they considered a power conference in basketball. But you know, what I'm saying? Boy boil boy. All right. Here's I'm gonna tie the final four into what you're saying draft buzz. I want you to give me an answer. You can't sit on the fence here. All right. What would surprise you more? Auburn winning the national championship here or the cardinals not drafting Cuyler Murray. What would surprise me more? What would surprise you more Auburn winning title or the cardinals not drafting Cuyler? The cardinals not drafting Cuyler that would surprise you more. Yes. So you're saying you really think they're drafted collar. Well, what everybody I don't think. Aubert's went in national title. So it's kind of a push. But I have to give on put it went on record saying ninety nine point nine percent Cuyler ninety nine point five whatever it was. So I think it's I think Kingsbury Kingsbury to me will look at Cuyler as the Patrick Mahomes, and he'll look I think it Rosen as Alex Smith. And I think that's if you assess it that way, what do you do? It's a pretty easy thing. I've said from day one to if cliff doesn't draft Cuyler one it goes against everything he wants in a quarterback in an offensive system that he runs to it it it puts massive risk on the way. We will remember him, especially if Cuyler goes on and his success running an off in similar to what cliff would want to run with Cuyler three. It puts a bazillion pounds more pressure on Josh Rosen for for a bad football team that I don't think he did you don't need any other burden. Josh Rosen at this particular box office or there's no question. Yeah. I mean, there are you going to buy a ticket to go? See Josh Rosen or to go about this story when you know, you don't have a, but how about this? If the cardinals were picking two or three and not one with Kingsbury be sitting there and saying he's what we need to do to get to one. Can we get Murray? The say the team at one didn't want Murray the need Murray. And they were to somebody else was gonna would Arizona be sitting there saying she said, we only had the number one pick. I could head Kyle. They have it depends. Does that does that team at one are? They would they be in the market to trade down to. And then you've got to worry about somebody jumping. However, you'll slice it. They'd have been sitting there saying gosh would have been great to have number one and get Cuyler Murray. We're not gonna get well, guess what? Now you hired Kingsbury. Now you've got the perfect quarterback. Come on. Yeah. I agree. One hundred percent agree with you, Dr in male ESPN radio ESPN app. Always presented by progressive insurance. Let's start. We'll go five to one. I know you've always got a few. Honorable mention guys in there. So fire away. Getting was really. Oh, yeah. Wait forgot. We had this. Go ahead. Mel type he is the most fascinating intriguing choir in the history of the NFL draft. He's got the answers who you should take who you shouldn't take strappy Kuyper junior. Latest Mel kiper junior NFL draft board. All right. That's been what bill's been wanting to do that for years cut me off, man. And he did it. Got you. Got the all these years. No comment. Well, I'm out. All right. What are you got big a corner really close at number five the guys who are just barely off the five Julian love Notre Dame, Trayvon Mullen. Clemson Lonnie Johnson junior from Kentucky and Joon Williams from Vanderbilt Habet, Corey Ballantyne. We thought back guys aren't one. They players Corey Ballantyne from Washburn David long, Michigan right there. Okay. Close to five but not at five at number five is Justin lane Michigan state wide receiver turn corner nearly six to over one hundred ninety pounds long arms ran four five vertical thirty seven and a half had a heck of a year for Michigan state. He's a kind of guy you look at still learning. Kind of the nuances of the position highly skilled player on second round. I'll go Justin lane at number five out of Michigan state. All right. Justin, lay number five on the cornerback. Big board number four number four is Byron Murphy from Washington, you can have him at one two or three and nobody would. Argue Dori five minute ten and af one ninety four or five speed thirty six vertical which you love about. Byron Murphy only third year sophomore of the injury two years ago. Tremendous understanding of the position great ball skills. He can be a heck of a player. I mean, there's no question. He could be a late one early to there's a range there that he could go. But I think the bottom line is going to be a really a solid player because he has versus Hillary slot corner outside I'll go Byron Murphy Washington at number four. All right. You're number three on the cornerback big board. I like this kid. He was a Presbyterian. He had five picks dominated and he goes to temple for the one season rock you sin cornerback at temple steady rise. I had a good senior bowl week. Had a great year makes plays on the football. You talk about what is back to the quarterback or face Kim. It doesn't matter ball. Skills are excellent. He's not afraid to come up and make a tackle tough physical kid quick athletic rent four five one, but almost a forty vertical strong upper body. Sal. Alad compact five eleven and a half one hundred ninety two Pounder rockets sin. I could go late. I at worst early second round. All right. So Justin lane Michigan state number five. Byron Murphy, Washington number four rockiest sin temple number three about number two on your corner. Big. Here's the player you thought back in August. If he came out would be a top five pick and as the season went along, greedy Williams. Maybe he was thinking a lot about the NFL draft is covered skills weren't as locked down as they had been. He's not a big time tackler, not real physical. Please six two hundred and eighty five pounds around a four three and we granted him they had the great year. But he is a guy has tremendous opportunity to be a really good cover corner in the NFL, Dr ROY up the, greedy Williams. Do you want to be complete just throw your body around and make a tackle? I had a GM say, hey, when a big back a two hundred twenty five pound backs coming around that corner is gritty Williams going to sell out and make that tackle. And that's something that he only can answer that question that. That's why there's some skeptics doubters back reading Williams. That's why instead of being a top five top ten pick. He may still be there. When the Kansas City Chiefs are picking in the late first round, greedy Williams. And now, we're at number one who's your number one cornerback, and this is arguably the number one guy, I think it's no consensus effect. I know there's no built in consensus here, greedy Williams could be rock. Your sin could be Byron Murphy could be or it may be one of the other guys. I mentioned okay. I'll go the Andre Baker at Georgia. And I think the entree Baker while four or five two at the combine then improved the four four six. He's got good length. Even though he's five eleven one Ninety-three the long arms. He's a heck of a player. And I watched the Andre you think about in practice. You went up against meet Cole hardman a guest on this show a few weeks ago with Meco hartman's four three speed. You got Holloman a young receiver there who had a really good season. You got Riley. Ridley coming out you go up in practicing. And it's really good players. Same thing in the SEC like as like. Deebo Samuel and others about all. There's there's great receivers in the SEC always more than held his own impressive week after week. The measurable aren't great. There's other guys with better. But as a football player the feel for the position that completeness is apply there. That's why I just made the cost that I'm not gonna worry about the measure. I'm gonna go with the best football player of the most complete player cornerback that's going to be my number one guy. And for me. It's the Andre Baker from Georgia who could go anywhere really Dari from twenty into the late late part of the first round to the early second. It's the same with any of these top five corners, that's mixed opinion on all of them. But I'm going to go to the Andre Baker Georgia as my number one corner overall the Deandra banker, greedy Williams rockiest sin. Byron Murphy, Justin lane, your top five Cornerbacks under big how many are we talking first round here. We're talking a potential of I think four first round corners. I think three may end up going and one draw. Steady early second. And then I think door you could have seven eight quarters go in the second round. Wow. Really? Yeah. And the things would be joined love Notre Dame Justin lane. Michigan state Trayvon Molin. Clemson Lonnie Johnson junior Kentucky, Joe one Williams. Vanderbilt Omonia Roya from Penn State, David long, Michigan. And there's a host and we're going to get to it next week. That's why we didn't go the fence of backs together because it's not fair safeties. You could have more safeties in the first two rounds in corners. So we're going to get the safeties next week for that reason. There you go any Kennedy, by the way going to join us we're coach at ole miss current ES college basketball analyst, we'll get you back to the final four here in just a minute. Real quick. Casey draft guide. Twenty twenty. Promo Code Live. We'll get eight fifty four okay. So here's a we got a couple of things we're going to do. We're going to talk a little about the drafts. Some of the stuff. That's happened some news. That's out there about the draft. Recently but one of the things that happening espy nation. This week is talking about the best teams to not win the Super Bowl and so we thought we would kind of just jumping in and and participate. So we're all GONNA list out the best cheese jeff best chiefs team to not win a super bowl oldest goes first craig what you think. Yeah I we decided to stick with stuff. That's in our lifetime. I remember. Nineteen ninety-three That was Joe. Montana's first year with the chiefs. Marcus Allen joined the chiefs Christian Corey actually blew out. Had An injury in the preseason. So they kind of put some stuff together. They're drafted will shield and then made the AFC championship game. That was very very good. Football team. Joe Montana was hurt off and on throughout the year and he actually had a concussion in the third quarter of the AFC championship game. Dave Craig come in and lead a big ninety yard scoring drive there to kind of cut the deficit again late in the game. It was thirteen to twenty at that point. Joe Montana threw an interception right before halftime on the five yard. Lines should have been even closer but the bills that same bill team that kept going to the Super Bowl didn't win. You know they were able to put the game away but that was a really really good football team. There's a lot of hall of famers on that football team very very good players. Unlike most the chiefs ring of honour is littered with players from the nineteen ninety-three season. That's one of the very best teams to never win a super bowl in my lifetime for the chiefs. Craig held were you. I was Is Ten in one thousand nine hundred? You are a promise you I promise you that that is a real thing and not a bit older than I am. So matty what you got a little poor recent. I was in fact. Thirteen this down. I guess technically thirteen the two thousand three Kansas City chiefs. I think everybody remembers Dick for meal years. We asked Trick Green. We have the best offensive line this ever graced the NFL. We can run the ball on anybody with priest. Holmes this even young Larry Johnson before he was really helping the team out a ton or anything like that. You Dare Clock Lockwood Priest Holmes receivers were good enough Johnny Morton at doubt they all actually got some UCLA. Tony Gonzalez prime like this team was ready to go offense Wli. They ran into the bus all known as Peyton manning the play offs and despite starting secondary combined for seventeen intersections that year they could not force. A single punt added the Indianapolis Colts as they lost in the playoffs. In the shootout to peyton manning up the pass rush through the steam in linebacker. Play was atrocious. Like dance a big bodies upfront. But nobody can generate As Rush I think that ended up. Big they're doing but the two thousand three team like they were primed to go on a deep run like they decided to just had to give the colts and they lost that shootout because they coat force one single. Stop the bigheaded headed read. More Goethe's forehead peyton manning his tiny little legs and they could not stop panel. One Time I. I almost used all of my Christmas money to buy two tickets to that playoff game. I don't know how you wouldn't have looking at the team. I don't know how you wouldn't have I. Yeah but I'm I'm kind of glad I did. It would have been there. We're going we're going in chronological order and you don't have to look too far for me. Two Thousand Nineteen. I hate this Patrick. Mahomes bursts onto the scene and changes the game of football as we know it fifty touchdowns five thousand yards passing sets the world on fire and then they. They break the curse against the colts. The the team that's caused them so much angst in their in their first playoff game in the divisional rounds and then a furious comeback against the New England patriots. Who Slow Patrick Mahomes down for? You know for fifteen thirty minutes of football comes up short because Ford lines offsides cheese weird like I'M GONNA lie. I'M NOT GONNA lie. We're like a little bit insufferable right now because we have mahomes imagine how insufferable we would be if this team had just repeated imagine how insufferable we would have been if Patrick von Mahomes had went out and done everything he did last year and won a super bowl last year was super bowl. Probably not but I actually I think they would have beat the Rams. I really do I. One hundred percent. Think they would've beat the ramps totally agree have for sure. They just would not be repeating a glass here. I think we answered that question this week. On the that's a good point. They saw the super bowl. So I I think that's a very good choice especially the way the. Nfl has gone last year's team actually being able to throw the ball like the trade. The two thousand eight playoffs farewell or the nineteen ninety three team the last team to war with these other two teams you shows. I got the best team yet. Yeah that's true I was. I was going to give you the option to talk about two thousand and three or two thousand nineteen but you were so late to the party and I. I was just like you notice that they were like yeah. We'll let the old guy choose the old team. Yeah we yeah we yeah. We knew that was going to happen. And I vaguely remember like I. I was four during the nineteen ninety-three season. I'm pretty sure I remember bits and pieces of ninety four though. I'm pretty sure that was ninety four. The colts loss in the playoffs Yes I believe that to be the case unless I'm yes off a couple years. I believe that to be the I think that was the year. Okay so I remember that one and I. Yeah I remember vaguely later. No I think it was ninety. I think it was ninety four with the playoffs starting in ninety five. Maybe I'm not sure I don't know but I remember that era. We need to this. This tantalizing podcasting. That were happening right. And we're all thinking second guessing ourselves and asking questions. It was the first year second. Guess myself a single time on this. Podcast can't ever okay. We're GONNA talk about the draft now and one of the things I want. Want to talk about today. Is the running backs and the potential for the cheese to take a running back in the first route? Here's the problem I'm having right now. You can not escape the chiefs being mocked a running back in the first round Mel kiper running back in the first round Bucky Brooks running back in the first round up to Bucky. Everybody would take running back in the first true Matt Miller our POW Matt Miller. He's talking about how the chiefs might be look into drew. Grab a running back early to continue to to build on this offense. Maybe it's a trade back. Maybe it's not but all I know is guys. It seems like running back kind of on the table a little bit for this team in the first round. And I'm going to be honest with you. If we get to the end of Thursday night and the chiefs make a pick. They actually make the pick and at pick thirty two. It's running back out of Georgia De'andre Swift. I liked the Andrea Swift. I think he's a good football player if they take him at pick. Thirty to the PODCAST is going to be lit. And it's not just the Andrea Swift. It's pretty much any running back at thirty two like I'M GONNA rationalize it like a week later. But the initial shock of knowing like de'andre swift can't play. Cornerback I reassure he might. But they're not drafting into the audrey swift he. He's not big enough to play. We'LL LINEBACKER for Steve SPAGNOLO. I'm terrified that we're going to get all the weight and this all this work. Three hundred page draft guide. They take a running back in the first round Mattie. I don't know what I'd do with myself. What if the first round running back was Louis Gestalt? Oh well you. Maybe there's more risk there so unfortunately this isn't what kids talking about here is this isn't just like and. I don't WANNA say random. I don't mean it in a derogatory way like these people are very good at what they do. But this isn't just keep on. The Internet are running websites just kind of mocking up stuff that makes sense to them or putting in research mocking stuff that makes sense. Some of these marks were talking about bay heavy hitters guys that make mock draft based on their contacts teams. That's the only reason it's Kinda getting this huge day. Right now is because you've got Jeremiah's Bucky Brooks Matt Miller's Melkite or like these guys all have running back to the cheese and while it's a common thing every year to put running back to the chiefs. I don't think it's ever been this common all at once. It's this exact version that started this week for all. These guys just process yet. This is this isn't just like myself on Arrowhead Pride. Here's a running back for the these are people that actually have contacts the NFL dinner putting this out there which is worth paying attention to is much as I. This is the concepts. I think it makes a lot of sense in for a team that is trying to quote unquote They're trying to running back. They're trying to be the same thing I do. Think running back is one position that might give the most instant impact the most instant improvement over the team from last year. So you have a team that basically stay the same. Maybe got a tiny bit worse by losing kindle fuller by losing Liz Newsy Matt Having Reggie Ragland you can make it a little bit better the easiest by taking running back at the end of the first round. I give the logic way. The chiefs played out their off-season. I just absolutely can't stand the plan. If that's the case it picked thirty two you're probably looking to take the best player available and chances are good. Best Player available will pick thirty two. It's going to be running back this year. Quite simply there. I know we talk a lot about some of these fourth fifth corners. Maybe Zach bond or somebody like that is it. We really liked the guys that we think fit the chiefs well but a running back might be the most talented player on the board. In that regard the chiefs are legitimately going to take a player available. Not only does that running back help improve things for the offense. It just kind of opens everything up. We've seen some very specific game plans for Damien Williams. We've seen some very specific game plans for Daryl Williams Darwin Thompson Shady McCoy. If you have somebody that can do everything that this running back by committee can do all of a sudden. Maybe it makes your offense a little more unpredictable. Maybe it makes your Andy Reid a little more comfortable in his play calling who knows what the case may be. I again do not WANNA running back in round one period. I I hate that idea. I think there are so many other positions that need to be addressed particularly on my defense but Craig's defense my defense but I think that the more and more this is picking up you have to start thinking about what that would look like for the chiefs. What sort of impact that would make and the talent level that you could put on the team with the guys that are there and if you count align all that up on fortunately it does make a little bit of sense. Even though Andy Reid maximus running backs everything like that of hurdle that argument and I agree with it but there is some logic there one of the things I can take solace in with this whole thing though is not necessarily a consensus about which running back. They're going to take which makes me feel like a little bit. Better about maybe. Maybe it's just this makes sense. I need to get running back in the first round. Let's just throw a name out there because there's not like a name title. Jk Dobbins for bucky books and De'andre Swift. For Milk Hyper are Miller. He's talking about Clyde Edwards. I would tend to lead climate. Where if I was the chiefs if if it is running back I'd take Clyde Edwards. Larry I think I think he's the best fit the perfect fit for the chiefs running back aid. We'll take a break and we're GONNA talk about trade backs right after this. Okay so we just got done talking about the running back position. And I don't think these things are mutually exclusive of each other but there is also a lot of buzz about trading back. Potentially you know you're starting to see that a little bit more like some of the caveats are the jeeze if they're gonNA pick here. It's running back or you know. I think there's I think there's some buzz out there that might be in a position to trade back and actually I think if the chiefs traded back maybe maybe running back maybe. They kick off their draft with running back in the second round and that would actually be a little bit more appealing and appetizing to me than taking running back at thirty two. Not that I feel good about it. But maybe that'd make me a little bit better at least because they'd get another asset. I don't know if I hate the idea of them trading back with regardless of what position they take. I don't know if I hate the idea of them. Trading Back Greg. And we've talked about this a little bit. But it definitely makes sense for the chiefs to trade it back in an asset strapped draft where they probably need to add several contributors not necessarily four this year but for the future they need bodies going into two thousand twenty and twenty twenty one and beyond they need to add some talent to some brooms. And frankly there's just not a whole lot of picks to be able to do it in the back every round so being able to trade back maybe early up into the second there and they pick up a fourth round draft pick you know or you know creep up towards that. Pick one hundred kind of range. We've talked about many talks about it all the time date early day. Three picks are valuable still because everybody goes home. Everybody gets a kind of reset their boards. And if you've got another early day three pick right there at the top of the fourth round you can kind of say. Oh man okay. That guy fell to us. We're going to go ahead and make that pick now there's some actual talent that's here you know. Make some moves there. I don't think that's a bad strategy for a team that needs to add some bodies several positions. So yes I'm there. I would prefer to trade back if they don't like you know the sort of defensive options that are there or if they frankly want to add more two more rooms for the track especially if it's at the expense of not drafting a running back. I think it's the right move almost regardless. I think there's a chance of there being only one or two players of the same tier or like in the same bucket. Thirty two is very slim. Most likely you're gonNA miss out on the second tier of players at thirty two. You're going to be looking at the top. You're going to have a good five to ten names of guys that are all ranked pretty equally available. What thirty two just quickly glancing over board? And you won't have to make that choice and you're sitting here with only five six all at the end of rounds and you didn't really add any new starters this year and you only have like twenty five players under contract to twenty twenty one. You're going to need draft assets. You can't expect a hit on one hundred percent of your drastic every single year. You're going to need few more swings because you are GonNa Miss One of your first two or three round. Pick just about every single season so you need more pixel chiefs trade back maybe the fifth highest rated guy out of that bucket even though all the guys are about the same. Rather take the guy at the top like. I do think that makes a lot of sense. I would still have a hard time. If you're trading back with the golden shape to take a running back like if you're set taking running back then I mean I get trade back to do it but I would really like to see them trade back. Take a player that closing more vital position in running back. Because I think if you're trading back it's because there's multiple guys of value available if you decided running back that's hard pill to swallow. I think it's easier pill for me to swallow and I'm not saying I advocate for it. Because I ve very obviously do. Not but you can. I'll feel a little bit better about it because okay let's say the trade back let's see they trade back to forty five ish. You're you're getting a third round pick included in that if you're moving all the way back that you're probably getting a third round pick unless you're getting future assets which I doubt I doubt that's in the plans I bet it's probably like it'd be like pick forty five and pick seventy five rush roughly so I'd make me feel a little better knowing that she's had a top seventy five. Pick to go and address other needs if they're going to take a running back anyway like if it's if that takes me from Clyde or John Taylor by running backs one to an I get forced into. Let's say Your Dad's a huge step for me so like if my goal is to take one of those running backs. I'd rather just take him at thirty two and like like I get the idea I would rather trade back and take my top running back to. It's just a risk reward game when you're already dealing with such a unimportant position running back I hate. It would be very scared of the idea to trade back than miss out. Guy Is take the next best out. Or maybe Clyde Johnson tailored go and you just move on to another position because you're bored which is two thumbs up. That's kind of like. Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking like. Maybe it's just like okay. We'RE GONNA move back to forty five. Clyde is hilarious there yet. Maybe WE'LL TAKE. He's in that pool that we're considering kind of thing but if not we're taking you know. Jeff GLADDEN BECAUSE JEFF. Cloudy might be there. Don't don't tip me with that if I if we take. Jeff glad near forty five geeked down on flip outlet like man. Okay Dan Dane Burglar is. I mean he is goaded this. I mean that's the name as the best his mark I believe had Jeff Glad Ni go and fifty four. See that. That's a steel. That's a steal for me but I if you can make that happen. That's fine. I just see you scenario like sitting around here last year. Talking about Byron Murphy. We're talking about Joe. One Williams Sean Murphy Bunting Rockiest Sin. All these guys that. Hey May- maybe you can pick up one of those guys near the end of the second round. Maybe you can pick up one of those guys late. All those guys are gone early in the second. Read you trade back to forty five. You miss out on it. Let's say you got running backs. You're targeting you miss out on Clyde you miss out on Jonathan Taylor know all the the courters to get you're gonNA miss out on the top linebackers then all of a sudden you're settling your your your settling for guy in that next tier down at frankly just made. If if the talents there take it. There's this team has avoided drafting in the first round for too many years. Now because Patrick Mahomes I'm not I'm not mad at it but adds talent to some rooms. Get get some to your talent. The last trade downside target I use a horizontal board. All you guys. That bought the draft guide. It's in there on the last page linked to it. I would never trade down more slots than I have. Players like valued at the highest positions left. So I have any early second round grades left and say there's only six guys I would never trade down more than six spots because the risk of losing all those early second round grades from trading back isn't worth it to pick up a pick in the seventies are a pick in the eighties for me. I would rather take more talented guy but you can back a couple of spots still guarantee yourself one of the players from that pool than by all means do it. Just cross your fingers running back if you if you trade if you trade back to the late thirties you're getting a pick or roughly about a top one hundred ten pick so you're getting pick it like one which the love that and I'm totally. I'm totally content with that because I still get a very good player at thirty eight. No DOUBT I. I still think you can get a good player. Forty-five especially if you have flexibility. It depends on if you have flexibility which I think the chiefs do. The cheese could go a lot of different directions in taking a BPA approach outshot just running back. I think there's going to be good players all the way into the forties. There's a couple draft scenarios and in conversations we WANNA have about the draft to and I think there's there's two lines of thinking that that could really you could tell us a lot about this football team. Honestly I think the first one is just playing in line with with Hashtag back draft builds around Hashtag running it back might look differently than something else. Craig. Yeah we've talked about this a little bit because most of the Times it were building mock draft talking about players. Were trying to kind of mix match a little bit so we talked about a little bit too very decidedly different lines of thinking. This is the first one if you're just looking for players to contribute in twenty twenty you're looking to fill the minimal holes that are there you've got running back safety linebacker. Interior offensive line. These are the spots that I think we can all identify. That could do with an upgrade if the chiefs decided that they were just going to add the best player each one of the picks in each one of these. You know sort amount wherever you can find the pockets there. You might see scenarios where the chiefs maybe taking a little less upside style players. A little higher floor style players trying to maximize this particular roster knowing that they're already one step ahead knowing that they're going to be able to do some stuff later on and be able to sort out the roster twenty twenty one when you get a little more cap room but specifically try and add the highest potential benefit in just this draft not really thinking about the future but adding it just for this draft so yeah in that regard. They went running back. It kind of makes sense safety that makes sense linebacker flexible for both as is interior offensive line but those are obviously positions that they can definitely target and when I think rounded backdraft kind of a thing about trying to improve the team this year does add that half the steph improvement so that you can still be better than last season to lose a couple kind of role pieces. I immediately think of running back like we kind of already talked about. Don't love it but I get the path to how that makes better football team for twenty twenty a safety he's the only one that really jumps into my head. Just because I think safety's especially guys that don't have a week playmaking ability. Don't go early address to often. So there's a chance you can get a football player. That is ready to step in and play football right away. It paid thirty two eighty minute take sixty three a walk thornhill. Kinda RANGE LAST YEAR. You get a safety it's ready to step in tribute right away in the chances from what? I've looked at seeing a lot of mock drafts or just how people right players the chances of a safety being able to step in right away at one of those spots is really high so running back safety can make the biggest impact right away in my opinion in interior all line I think after Caesar we's it's a big drop also get a chance to go for him. I think he makes you better right away. I think most is after him are probably an improvement. I just don't know how big of a step in linebacker. It's the same issue like linebacker position that usually takes a little bit the transition from college the NFL. A Lotta guys. Don't step on the. Nfl fields are going to be ready to go so it might be a slow burn but you kinda hope by the time the playoffs kick in your new linebackers ray to make a difference to me the first thing that jumps into my mind trying to get better they see your white. They've done all off season when the whole goal is just the same team as last year. Not Better not worse just the same team running back and safety make a lot of sense early. Yeah I mean I think all of those positions you guys listed out I mean sure it's it's a Hashtag backdraft like there's definitely there. You're plugging holes. You're you know you're making the you're you're you're you're you plug holes for for a team that has twenty or twenty starters returning but I'll think running back safety linebacker interiors ally. I also don't want to make it sound like it's completely for twenty twenty two. You still also are getting improvements in depth along twenty twenty one or four twenty. Twenty one and beyond. This team is going to need a linebacker next year and in two thousand twenty one. This team is going to need interior oftens of line next year and in two thousand twenty one running back. You don't need but idea why you would. I'm I'm taking more barbs at running back right now. Yeah and this makes a lot of sense because as we says Privy Change quarterbacks he does I think we're all coming around I mean it. Only he knows what it is. A case of. He doesn't quite sure what the position is. I mean he's this US on the corner. Quarter issue maybe the issue here. He doesn't spend money on corners and he doesn't invest assets every year we every year. I've done the two years I've covered. Brett veep straps cornerback has been like priority one for me and every year they cobble it together with you know two and a half million dollar contracts handed Bruins undrafted free agent six trumpets. It'll be interesting. I I do think my guess is they. They they spend a top one hundred. Pick on quarter. I do think that going to happen. This year There's another there's another line of thinking out there potentially and I still think it kind of makes sense with what they're doing with running back. They've got twenty of their twenty two starters. There's not a ton of holes but there's big decisions to be made down the road. They don't have a deal for Christians in place. They don't have a deal for Patrick Mahomes in place. Those two guys are GONNA cost money if they keep both of them. Even if they only keep Patrick mahomes they're still going to have to make a lot of tough decisions about this roster. So maybe maybe. Maddie well actually. You explained the bill for the future because this is the this is your sorry. I don't want to jump on anything because this is something you've talked a lot about. Been like I said I think if you look back at this chice off season right now. The the clear goal has been to bring back the majority of the two thousand eighteen team. I don't think it's a very difficult thing to say. That the chiefs a definitely bringing back ninety nine point nine percent of last your team you hope of development at better injury locked. The team is as good if not better. You didn't add any new pieces and get better like you didn't go out of your way to make there'd be more talent on your team your banking on this team. Be Justice good as it was last year which was a super bowl champion so maybe going into the draft thought processes to start to build in the twenty twenty one where you had a lot of contracts coming off the book you have a lot of very high. Valuable positions are under contract. You have a lot of holes this Ross. Twenty twenty one in a lot of them are valuable positions like while we already talked about linebacker and interior offensive line could be useful for the future. You also need some now this chat. Maybe it's going to be heavy on wide receiver because demarcus Robinson Sammy. Watkins are done after the season may get some corners because the shot briones on a one year deal taveras ward had a very good year. But he's still was just one year he's GonNa be. I believe a restricted free agent next year. So it's not like he's locked up long-term defensive tackle Mike panels on a one year deal. Derek nods the only proven to be very steady decides Chris Jones who's on the franchise tag. So you don't what's happening with him next year. You might need more guys up front and then finally I think this is the one that gets kind of the most is from fans offensive. Tackle Mitchell. Schwartz isn't young. He's not getting any younger. I think there was some rumblings about you know. Maybe he wasn't feeling great to start last year. He was a little sore. You know he's getting up there needs. This happens when offense attack was older. He's a big guy maybe he's wanting to call it quits. Maybe not maybe the cheese. WanNa save some money on Eric Fisher? Who costs a lot of money in almost cost him the super bowl because he couldn't block young both a single time in entire football game? Maybe they want to save some money and move on from them in two thousand twenty one draft young offense tackle. Any one of these positions likely doesn't help a ton this year. Besides maybe corner. But that's only if you spend an early pig. Do you give them a year to develop with this. Coaching staff. To develop their skills develop their game and be ready to start next year because the chiefs feel like their teams good enough to win a super bowl this year. If they didn't they would've action went out and signed a better football players and not just background guy so they feel like they're good enough to win the Super Bowl. Maybe they draft more for the future rather than trying to improve on a team that they already. Thanks Pretty. We could just call this the redshirt draft. Yeah just know that you can take a bunch of guys and none of them may see the field and they still may win the Damn Super Bowl. Anyway you know and man wouldn't that be nice. I would also add edge to this list. We haven't talked about much but you. That situation is a little bit up in the air for this year too. But they've got a couple. Starters definitely don't have guys opposite of Frank Clark going forward here so that's another position that I look for here. But yeah there's there's a case to be made to just basically take the twenty twenty draft and say you know what? Ali You guys are sitting and less midway through the year. We need some injury relief or anything like that. We are not planning major contribution out of anybody in this draft. Because we want you all to be here. We want you all to be performing at a high level on the same page. Twenty twenty one but we need you when all of these guys walk we get a bunch of complex because we're replacing them with draft picks and kit loves that. Yeah I I could see a situation where they are little more forward thinking and honestly wouldn't hate it. Here's the here's the thing about a build for the future. A HASHTAG redshirt draft on the way out of the HASHTAG. Whatever I like it so okay. Let's let's say like I talked about. You know you talk about building for the future. You can throw safety linebacker in there. They're not necessarily the same premium positions that. We're talking about here but what you can do is if you're if you're building for the future if you're looking at it as a redshirt year you have opened yourself up to have a better chance at landing a blue chip player because now the board is very open for you with six positions that you've potentially could take the best player on your board and it makes sense for your future so as an obviously even just because you're building for the future it doesn't necessarily have to be that that player can't contribute right away. But like Caesar Ruis. I still say I see I see. I see Caesar Louise in both of these lines of thinking even though he's an I o l even though he's an interior linemen I think he has a chance to be a blue chip interior offensive linemen. And he's he's like a brisket you sit in you set it and forget it. You never forget you you never need to worry about Caesar ways you know you just ten years adjust consistency but you open the board up. Conc- for your yourself significantly so now that you're you're in a position to just take value the entire draft almost because there's probably going to be a player at one of these positions and hopefully it's one of these high high profile positions like tackle wide. Receiver Corner obviously but even if it's linebacker even Patrick Queens there at thirty two. He felt he fits in both buckets. He fits in the running back bucket. He it's the building build for the future bucket. He still twenty years old. You have a chance to get a blue chip linebacker out of that. Even though linebacker made up his valuables under these positions. I think. You've got a lot of flexibility for the two thousand twenty draft which it makes it interesting. This thing could go several different ways and it's going to tell us a lot about what this football team thinks. And that's why it's legitimately one of the most. It's the most interesting draft I've been a part of. I think in the last few years the end of the day. I don't think that they're going to go. One hundred percent towards a running back or build for the future. I think it's very clearly going to be a little bit of a mix of both both like it might not be evident as every other bank. I think you're going to get a pretty even split. Like in the top. One hundred wherever the picks may fall whether it's only three picks whether it's for banks but I think you're going to end up with a relatively even split of guys ready to help right now in guys for the future not be surprised to come out of the strap with two very clear cut from day. One redshirt guys but also come away with a maybe a running back. Maybe interior offense lineman or safety. Just somebody that is going to be expected. Almost immediately be pencil in is a major contributor as well and like well. It doesn't sound like rare for that to happen. That's still the case. You don't often have your two extremes in the same draft cheese. Put ourselves into that position where I do think they wanna add one or two guys to help the team this year but I think the majority of the assets are gonNA go toward stealing those high volume physicians Tackle Wide Receiver Corner from twenty twenty one because again the contract situation. The Cap Space Does Not Look Great in twenty twenty one especially if you're getting mahomes back adding wide receiver to figuring out what you're GonNa do with Chris. Jones like they need to hit on a lot of draft picks or start to be able to spend some money and they don't have that much money available unless they're drafting twenty twenty one. I think regardless of what you do you have to get out of this draft with receiver and that's true strictly because of the value. It's just such good value. And if you're trading back here's the thing. I like about trading back if you trade back to forty two or thirty or whatever you pick one thirteen. Now you've got a little bit more flexibility to just to get insane value with one of your next three picks at receiver. Whatever you think is going to be the best value at receiver. If it's someone that you didn't think was going to be there at sixty three sixty three or ninety six or one thirteen. Take them take them. Because you're probably getting some fourth round picks in this year's draft receiver goes in the second round and drafts. I mean this isn't Kim Butler. Who went in the early Fourth Round last year? I mean we like to keep Butler. But you're getting a better player than Akeem Butler. Yes really fourth round this year. There's going to be good value and you got. If you've got more picks to play with you give yourself a chance to house some freedom to do that. And so that's one thing I think is part of the team. Trade back move is having an extra asset to play around with finding the best value at wide receiver. That you could get okay. That is going to do it. For today's episode we will be back on Friday with the AP draft show will catch you up.

From The Combine

"Every day brings us closer closer to the moment. When the next generation of NFL stars learned their destiny. And franchises. Try to lay the foundation for the next dynasty witty bird banker. This is the first draft now alongside NFL draft insiders Mel kiper junior and Todd mcshay Pierce, Chris Brown. You wouldn't believe we are here live at the NFL combine for first draft Melkite Bor celebrity cameo to some GM San who is that guy. I know they weren't there. John. Lynch hate smoke. Hyper todd. You're here you believe type all these years now released in. Yep. Database standing with your Washington on TV all those other years. Yup. And now we're actually going run that would have been weird. So no, you're not. Was actually in the stadium. But watching it on TV. No. I mean some days. Yeah. Sunday, TV hit and go back to the hotel room. And then come back here. We to watch. So Todd is going on. It'll be this year or next year. Todd Todd's going on twenty of these. Since you've been in this business Mel not going to date you're going on bit longer than that. But I got a question for you. So about eighty three eighty four they start getting the combine setup. Let's start getting official times official whatever on all these guys what I wanna know is seventy nine eighty you're getting your first guide together. Our you gathering a forty time on number eleven pick. Russell ERC sleep. Oh, you had to have contacts in the league. Who would give you this stuff and one of my good friends back in the day with Jack Faulkner who has one of the best the NFL's ever had. He was head coach. And I don't even call Jack up, and he would say, hey, this stuff. Yeah. I don't care about this stuff. Doesn't matter can play football and even ride rattled off to me over phone. But I want to know is so say you're calling on Joe Montana. It's nineteen Seventy-nine. You gotta call Notre Dame. Oh, yeah. Our people just lying to you left and right on heights and weights and forties. I would call the school about was the stats. You couldn't get that. There was no internet. To spend two days a week. Today's a week from say eight nine in the morning until west coast time the late on wait a little bit. And then to get Hemi sachse kit had tackles for laws individual game stop Fessel game where he looked like he impress. How do you do against Arkansas? Demi that you'd have to get all that on the phone from the sports information director the football contact. So that meant two days sounds brutal night calling school system. Get basic statistical data, we'll never get those hours back. How what were your phone Bill O? It was like. It was like that was a stack. So thick. My father would say, are you kidding me? Nineteen years old calling every school twenty years old twenty one. Yeah. And you're getting a staff phone, but it's like back in the day. It was like unbelievable. So then ESPN calls and eighty three and you made like a couple of hundred bucks eighty three. Exactly four hundred four hundred bucks to do TV that I felt your four draft. Yeah. That was my dress. Todd. They could smoke in the room while they were making picks like madmen. It was unbelievable back boomer assize. We were sitting at a table as me and Chris Berman me and boomer bobbly was moderating in Bristol. And we had a little tiny. Science and calling in after he was picked in the second round. And he was disappointed wasn't a first round picks Bengals took three players in the first round. He was of the fourth pick. But in the second round. And then after we finished with boomer. I think it was Tim the ember and Chris Zand an and Carl Sander linebacker at Tennessee was at Washington, we're drafted we went away from the draft ESPN left draft. I walked out of the room Berman. What me try told me to Bradley International Airport while the second round was going on I flew back ball. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. I think they left address to go to attract ripple makes sense caught away from the second round gracing, whatever it may have been left the late late second round. And then this year, we're on network TV think about it Todd. What was your first combine experience like he used to be able to come into it? I was working with, you know, Gary Horton, and those guys the war room man, the war room back then turned into scout sync with the SPN, but I used to be able to come in and go to everything. I would go to the room with the bench press. I had my own, you know, stop watching would record the forties and everything else. And I thought I came TV event and then but we're back in we're back in. Let's put it that way. Guys, wanted his jump into nobody works out until Friday. We're going to get running back, then then you start. So it's just this trail of days where you get accurate heights accurate weights. We saw some of the running back stuff come in. What I just want to do is go back into some of the biggest names in this draft. And just tell me the thing. That's the most interesting to you. It's it's going to be a height. It's going to be wait. Like, it's it's the kind of the question you have about this guy start right off the top. Do you really care at this point about Kyle Murray's height or you just kind of resigned to he's in this range? And we know what he is. I'm pretty resigned. I mean, if it would have to be like five seven of four, you know, where it would it would be eye-opening. But I I'm kind of more interested. In has really bulked up to over two hundred pounds because that's what I keep hearing. And and also what's his hand span? You know, we go back a Wilson. Ten and a half and gronk hands basically at five five ten and three eighths inches. So that's unusual. That's usually, you know, you're talking about the six foot five six six quarterback. So that that was in his favor as well. So I mean, I don't know. I'm not I've talked about it all day long. It's getting kind of old to talk about a guy. That's why I'm just getting rid of it right off the top. Yeah. There you go. Cuyler Murray, you're gonna like him regardless if you had a question it five nine five, and you're gonna obviously not going to when the time comes to say, I'm going to draft him. You're not you're gonna go different direction may well be not even somebody you're considering this is a a gut feel. There's no other way to you can't compare him. There's no comp Tyler Murray. There's nobody ever been draft in the first round lake Cuyler Murray. Just today's NFL going to allow him to have great success at five nine and a half five ten whatever he is. We'll see but is going to be interesting to see which EM takes him because we talked about oak wanted four. Maybe they their car was an MVP guy. A couple years ago will help they have all these draft picks, and Derek Carr should revert back to his old form Cincinnati Bengals have Andy Dalton would they want a guy who could maybe be the parent Miami. Obviously thirteen we've talked about. Seen washington. A fifteen. I'm in exactly closing the Royal there on. Yeah. It's either that's the game. Turning fix for sale. We've never cared about is. If you go back and look at historically quarterbacks forty times mean nothing. No vertical jumps me nothing. Nope. The heightened await really doesn't matter as long as you with within a range. Now, the range doesn't even matter ranges ranges, gone going to forget all Jake locker would have four five and all these EJ manual is great speed at that with the elite size. He had none of these measurable matter for quarterbacks. Tom Brady ran a five to four forty nine four and a half vertical. So it doesn't matter. Giovanni Karmazin went to third rank because he had a better vertical and a stronger arm. It doesn't matter. It's a glut of other always said up Brian Billick, and I talked about this years ago about a gut feel for quarterback you either had that gut feel to take that guy or you don't Patrick Mahomes. Now is Baker Mayfield last year. That was the guy is going to hurt them either do or you don't. So it doesn't matter all these other measurable SEO quarterbacks and how they throw against air you better know by now that quarterbacks going to be your guy. Not you think John Dorsey took Baker Mayfield. Why did take his he had a strong feeling that this is a guy can go to war? Or with and I can win those battles. And that's the way you have to feel about these quarterbacks going in. It's not one particular trait. It's going to determine if you take a quarterback or you don't you better have the right system. I think that's the whole key is how you use him. And you utilizing him like he was used Oklahoma seem Bill O'Brien with the Shawn Watson adjusting their verbiage adjusting what they do in order to make him comfortable. So that he can play fast, and he can play without having over think, and it can be utilized properly you go back and look everyone wants to harp on this height stuff. First of all, it's really not the same game anymore in the last ten years. We've seen the quarterback now more so than ever throwing the ball outside the pocket, right? And even go back to the college game for Cuyler. He only had five balls batted down at the line of scrimmage in his offense align with six five Haskins who's who's your prototypical pocket passer had twelve which isn't a bad number either. But just you know, comparing the two guys you would think that. Stat has shown to mean, nothing. Your Morocco gets knocked down more than any pro quarter throw at the combine. No, why wouldn't you? I'll give you my take hours. I wouldn't the the only thing I would say is it's really not good optics because he's going to be standing there. And he's the face of this entire draft. So what what is the NFL network? What's ESPN going to be doing that whole day? Just right on him. What are you going to all now? Now on the flip side. I just I don't care if he doesn't let's put it that way. I'm not saying that I wouldn't use been saying this for I think years now, I don't care if you really throw at the comma. Yeah, there's thirty two quarterbacks draft in the first round the last ten years eleven of didn't throw. So it doesn't correlate Twenty-one did. So yeah, you can great. But it doesn't mean you're not going to be a first round pick. Your stock is going to be affected. It's how how do you interview? It's also like to throw the pro day in the more importantly in the individual workouts when teams fly into Norman to go work him out. That's when they're going to put them through their route three and do their the things that they want to see from him rather than a scripted workout. I wouldn't throw I wouldn't any part of be on that feel that a six foot five quarterback or six four quarterback drew locks and Daniel Jones and Ryan Finley always entire e Jackson all standing around a five foot nine five nine that will look. Talk about optics put Tyler Murray in there with always big quarterbacks. Be like the old Andy Reid picture of the punt exactly exactly the way in Cairo Murray. I mean, you'll probably be there. His day is going to be fun. They're probably going to do some stuff. They're going to get him on the move. They're going to show what he is. I would imagine Tyler you won't see another six foot four quarterback. Guys. Let's get a little bit. Combine nerdy. Todd. I get really excited during the combine because I see a guy Ron, and I know Todd is going to hop on Twitter. Ten yard split. You see that ten yard split. I know he's Texan thin. Like why you know? He's got his guys. He's like ten yards put on that guy. I remember Juda avian clowney ran, and yeah, he was this. He was that. He looks the part. And I remember Todd San did you see that tenure? It was a one five three who's your ten yard split team. Here is it Nick boasted, you need to see what that isn't tell me what you're looking for on that. You know, Joey Bosa came here and didn't run very good time. And everyone's saying, oh, he can't be great rusher in the NFL, and it's turned out to not be true. So I'm not overly worried. I I would like to see for more the speed guys guys. Like, Josh Allen coming out of Kentucky who relies more on speed and not necessarily the leverage in the hands. And the ability to rush the passer, I would want to see guys like that. I think it's important for the speed rushers the number. I mean, ideally under one six, oh, you know, she Matheson in those Dwight franey, those guys that's that's what they they ran. And you know, Polian Bill Polian talks about all the time that then for their system and being a speed defense that that's what they were looking for one six five is really good in a ten yard split anything over one seven you start to you know, it's a little bit of a red flag. Forty are. Dash four seven os is about the the number you want but three cone drill to me. Me for defensive ends and pass rushers is the most important drill. Almost all of the guys who run six nine or faster, and you can go look at the long list of guys have had a great success almost all of them in the NFL in terms of pass rushing. So to me if you're looking at defensive ends and pass rushers I think you want to be looking at the three cone drill first. And then the forty and ten yards split after that was a T J watt will six seven nine so you're right about and I think the forty times we looked at historically and you see guys like go back to the great pashas coming off the as a JJ watt was a four eight one. But he was six five and a quarter to nine on Miller. Six seven. Oh, yeah. They run a four four to forty Melvin Ingram. Six eight three. Yeah. Jerry hughes. Four six five forty clay Matthews. Four six to the guy. Melvin ingram. Four six six as I said von Miller coming off the edge. Ran unbelievable forty. So again, you're looking at a biller was six two and a half to forty five ran four four two and a thirty seven Vert. Article you'll go back to linebacker. We always said you want the the tape how they played in college. The match up to the workout Leuke Keithly was all over the field. Leuke Klay had an incredible workout. Luke kuechly ran at six three and a quarter to forty two four five forty eight thirty eight vertical. Go back to Brian Urlacher. Same thing at New Mexico all feel burst little kid, great workout. So I think you want the the workout to match which assault if it doesn't belong within the range. If it doesn't go to the pro day. I don't think you come to combine looking for football players know, you didn't like a guy like him after he works out. No mega back to the tape. Kuypers locked up in his hotel room too long. All right. All right. You should see the notes he has here. Mutiple mind ref word. I once Todd I once we were finishing up the draft. So we're gonna get together Todd who who's your best bit worst mcmil start working on these draft grades and arguing about it. Get some drinks out. And I was like oh gosh mill on Wednesday. I'm going to be calling OA Todd's going to have to do a mock draft mel's working on his big work. And Mel pulls out a four-lane. You said already got seventy nine of them down my top render like as the draft was finishing. He was writing down names. Oh, yeah. For you know, two thousand. Of the draft bugs me about the draft for next year. Get out get away. Two days. Todd. Let's start working on right here. Let's pick a handful of guys lock it. In guys say, it's TJ Hopkinson been moving up moving up the skies. Solidly in the first round TJ. If you do X in Indy, you're gonna lock it in. He's got locked in for speed. Maybe it's you know, it's a speed on a guy like Hopkinson decay Metcalf if he's fast enough, he's kind of lock it in. We know the guy can find the weight room for Hopkinson. I think in tight ends typically vertical jump has some correlation to success thirty seven thirty seven inches or better. As is outstanding twenty yard shuttle is another one and in the Wunderlich actually is for cornerback and tight end. Surprisingly it correlates to success in the NFL. If you have that combination. Todd facts, they're tight ends. And I'll tell you the guys that we look at his elite have run in the four five Greg Olsen around a four five one. Yeah. You look at Jimmy Graham ran a four six eight Jimmy Graham of four five nine Jermaine Gresham. Ran a four six eight Jared cook ran a four four nine Vernon Davis a four three eight Ben Watson four five three Zacharias four six eight Tyler effort, four six five when you're looking for Hopkinson Todd. You're looking at six five to fifty probably in that range, the took probably you would hope run under four six four six five. What did you might think you might? Let's talk about the guys that are going to go off on Friday. I big forty times you're gonna see here are the running backs. What is your reasonable expectation for lock it in Josh Jacobs number there, and maybe a few others? You gotta be careful when Jacobs because he's he's big back lady on bell. Ran four six you have to put it on perspective evolve. So at big back lake Matt forte at two hundred twenty pounds. Four four four Adrian Peterson to twenty ran four four even. Yeah. So you got to be careful with Emmett. Smith didn't have a great forty time. So I think running backs it's worthy agility quickness than it is straight line speed member Carta sticky when it came at a Texas at blazing four to two. Yeah. You look at the running backs. It's kind of been all over the place on it. There's a set way to say this forty defines a back. It's it's more about changing direction quickness agility than it is like I say straight line forty speed is it broad jump is a big one too. Yeah. Just showing the lower body explosiveness and strength. Ten five is the outstanding number for running backs. And I think you have to wait at just it too for for running. That's what NFL teams zoo it's adjusted based off the weight when it's forty time is because you can't compare a hundred ninety pound back a guy like Bryce love to two hundred and twenty pound back like we haven't Alabama guys. Around two hundred twenty pounds. So I think that's important to remember. As we go through the process Darren sproles was five six hundred eighty eight pounds rent four four six. So if you're looking for a commie Bryce love of we'll see what he falls into ladainian Tomlinson had an incredible work at two hundred twenty two pounds four four four. So again, say Levy on bell was two hundred thirty two pounds four six and then he took off twenty pounds before his rookie year guys where the workouts. It seems like really stand out is it the cornerback position. I'm talking about three cone, and I'm talking about the forty times specifically where it seems like there are exceptions Joe Haden worked out poorly. We're five two and still went top ten. I think seven overall, but of this cornerback class are there who what do we expect out of these guys taught? I think greedy is probably going to have one of the better workouts would be my guest Williams heating does because his tape. Got progressively worse at LSU this past year. And a lot of guys are down because it doesn't tack. He's not overly physical. So I think he's going to have to work out really well and minore to maintain a spot somewhere in that top twenty five range, I'm interested. What t- Andre Baker to what does he run? You know, I love his instincts. I love the way he plays. But but does he have that elite top end speed and cornerback more than any other position arm length? The combination of arm length and forty time are really big really big in terms of the evaluation. And I think today's Cornerbacks are so much harder to evaluate because of the game. And because everyone's pointing bail technique. It's really hard to evaluate these guys. That's why these numbers are more important for cornerback than I think any position to the long athletic corners would've had a test. The guy. Just late at Michigan state, Joe one Williams Vanderbilt Lonnie Johnson Kentucky had they do. But I think the Todd's point about armlet it's important for receivers. It's important for offense alignment defensive linemen linebackers tackling Cornerbacks. Obviously, I think arm length is one thing if you look at all the players that have made it and made it big not many short arm guys really have had had an elite career in the NFL, and you go to a variety of positions. And if you can back down a pass, it can be just an inch inch and a half at extra arm length and had ability to catch up and not have to rely on always their speed and your ketchup ability that way that arm length and at that height advantage is a big factor site arm went Morton, anything probably most underrated part of this whole process. So let's just do it. Let's just call the combine the the the spandex the under armor all star team here who are some guys Todd that you're just thinking, regardless of how this guy looks as a football player. He's going to make a whole bunch of people. Go back to the tape because he's just going to be crazy here at the combine who stay. Pans out to you. I think decay Metcalf is going to be one of the guys that we look at coming out of ole miss the wide receiver body double. He's coming off the neck injury. And. Yeah, body double coming up the neck injury. He looks pictures like he's turned into a defensive end. But I'm told that he's going to run in the low four fours at six foot four two hundred and thirty something pounds, which is freakish. That's John Calvin Johnson was six five two hundred and thirty nine pounds and was borrowing someone sneakers because he wasn't planning on running or three eight five. Here's one of the most ridiculous things I've seen here. So I that's going to be important the Paris Campbell's and other receiver. I think that needs needs to run well coming out of Ohio State, and how about Jalen hurt who kind of disappear just off the map. He was wild. Kamara carries. Jalen hurt was Tennessee with him. And he was about a two hundred eighty like two hundred and thirty something pound running back who went to Baylor. And now he's hundred did it big year and considered one of the hardest workers on the team. And no one watched Baylor this year. So I kind of got overlooked, but he he's going to be interesting to walk. She's I don't know if he's going to actually do everything here. But when he does work out, I think heard is going to put together some big numbers in seventy nine when Mello's work in the phones. How many times you here is the hardest worker on the team artists work on the teams? Great got you. So item up hardest work team. Who was the guy who never coach turn team? Let me tell you. Working at guys we are going to jump into the NFC south year the saints the falcons the Panthers and the bucks will do that right about? Now, the New Orleans Saints the team that believes it should have been in the Super Bowl. But we'll talk about rules changes later. Mel I'm kind of curious drew Brees is joining the club of quarterbacks that are gonna play forever. They don't have a first round pick. That's going to Green Bay. I mean, you know, you're not picking to six they're pretty much sitting out there barely on network TV this year. What are you thinking here? Tastes on hills. Not the future. Offensive index him. But no I thought last year they might have an interest in the mar Jackson actually traded up thought they may go, and we were looking at maybe Lamar would be the one that ended up with Marcus Davenport in the ravens got him at the end of the first the Cuyler Murray where does Cuyler Murray fall in this draft. We'll see does he go top thirteen. If he does New Orleans is going to have a chance to get him. Right. But I think that's an opportunity here to see if they do. In fact, try to get that heir-apparent you think about the wide receiver position. It's Alvin Kamara it's Michael Thomas Alvin Kamara and then the tight end spot you is another air. So I think you look at at at were weapons for breeze. They'll look to do that obviously on the defensive side a corner another linebacker pass rusher coming off the edge. But I think the saints are in a position right now where the psychological part of this team based on two straight years coming off of America, Minneapolis miracle. And then the game that they should've won. It was taken away from them or they're in the Super Bowl. How did they come back from that? I as Peyton Manning that how? Do you come back from that? He said, well, I'd be fired up to come back and try to get there and do it again. But you don't know. That's that's the unknown. You know, drew Brees is going to be one. And and how he's going to be for the other guys in that locker room going to be doing the same thing. So I don't think we've ever had team come off to devastating losses. One of which they would have been a Super Bowl think that more overrides anything. We're talking about in terms of their needs in the draft. Yeah. I think it wide receiver. It's finding a compliment to you know, you you got a big physical receiver and Michael Thomas, you've got the running back. Did you talked about but finding whether it's a slot receiver guy with speed that can get down the field and take advantage of the run game off of play action sought receiver penny Hartley day day too early Isabela coming on exactly Georgia state. They'll have to go to the patriots think we're require amendola. India's? Checking a lot of box. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This was amazing with Danny amendola was forty time was coming out of college. Tell me four six nine does vertical jump was what these seven and a half or just love. Why was undrafted free agent at Texas Tech? Andy Isabella is considered the fastest player on that. Umass team. Four four. I'll give you I'll give you four four five over under which over under on that. When Bella over you run slower than slower than four four or five. Yeah. I can't believe it. I I have been texted multiple Andy Isabella forty time props. I think we should get it on the board game. He thinks four five five. I'll bookmaker buddy. Let's get this up there and get some actual John Avello. Yeah. Put a put a thing of mashed potatoes on it. How about that? That's that's big money falcons. I dunno. What he see here that the thing was two years ago when the Atlanta Falcons everything was perfect years ago. They were having the single on where they didn't have a single offense alignment ever get hurt. And they pleaded entire season. Even in the Super Bowl. Yes. Broken leg. And he should have won. It should have been Super Bowl champion let that would slip away. And then you see what happened? You're not gonna have that type of luck injury wise every year, and you saw last two years they haven't had it. So for Atlanta the offensive line. Matt Ryan, you gotta give them a clean pocket they fallen back on the offensive line. You think about the running back position with Kevin Coleman? They want somebody obviously can complement you. Devante Freeman come out of the backfield. I think we've talked about the defensive tackle spot. We've I think we both thought I don't know if you had had Oliver going there. I've had at Oliver did a lot of that is Grady Jarrett. Are they going to resign him or not? And if they do then they probably would go for a bigger guy to to Pogue in compliment, Dexter Lawrence. I don't know if they would do that in the first round at some point early on. I think they're likely to draft. A we talked that the kid to win great year. And he hasn't had the sack production outside a one season bring him back. But obviously the edge pass rusher. Getting more heat on the quarterback. But I think the offensive line to me is the big issue when they went to the Super Bowl that offensive line. Also starting five together. Is that he he's not one of those guys that can completely Johnson. I think that's an area. I think they better shore up going into this season. I'll tell you what this team has some bounce back ability on the defensive side of the ball Kiana. Neal was her about a reporter an with. The entire back into the defense was a mess. They they were they that one of the bright young defenses against a couple of years ago. We were talking about by Robert offers moved on Arizona's Isaiah Oliver second round pick out of Colorado steps into a starting role. So maybe you need another corner to add into that from a depth standpoint. Because offered hey he was hurt last year. He played her. So I think that's a good pick up for Arizona. It's football. It's one thing we have to look at for these kids coming out of the draft hottest guys play hurt and a slip back from a performance standpoint. You gotta factor that in if they're not healthy, and they're out there on a bad ankle or their knees. Bother mother showed something's bothering they're not gonna play as well. So I think you've got gotta look at football players. Okay. Were they banged up to create a the subpar performance. And I think in some of these these guys like Robert offers case, maybe it did. And that's a good pick up for the Arizona Cardinals. By the way, getting the falcons a little bit of a shot out last year because you had a situation where you could appointed to a few different needs. But they went out and got got in front of the thing on Julio Jones. They went and got Calvin Ridley when some people are. Right. You don't have to make that pick yet wait until around to Calvin. Ridley was everything you could hope for upset touchdown maker right away. So they hit it lasts. You don't know where these teams are going to go. But they definitely had it last year the Carolina Panthers. Mel Carolina Panthers at any point in this draft. Are they going to draft a quarterback? Or are we excited about the Kyle Allen renaissance? Well, now, I think you look at it on that high school tape, so many other things they got to think about before we got injured Joey Roberts, special jobs. I I saw him wanting to sixteen right there. I think you look at this team. And you go to edge rusher. The same stuff every and. And I think the offensive line you'll get that left tackle edge rusher cornerback wide receiver campaign run that much anymore on show. We said wide receiver about seven years ago. Yeah. Yeah. I think you look at this team. And and again there. There is division where right now the saints own it and is division. The seems to turn over what the saints Scott stronghold on the last few years Atlanta has fallen back Tampa Bay can't find their way. Now, you coaching change to Bruce Arians. You think about where the Carolina Panthers are and what they're going to be able to do bouncing back and getting Cam Newton healthy Cam Newton was not with that shoulder at the end of the year. He was able to throw the ball ten yards. It was so painful to watch. I'm sure I was paying for him out there. So give Cam credit for doing it. But the offensive line's got to get better. And to me when the defensive side edge, maybe a safety, but Carolina's got the franchises Cam Newton. And if he's not healthy. And you saw what happened when he wasn't. I think you know, guy like Andrei Dillard. Left tackle from Washington state for Houston can help a lot of teams pass blocker. And in the defensive end position. You got you got guys there. Mcclellan thorough could be available when they pick in the first round at sixteen overall. So the they'll have options offensive line runs dry quickly though. I think there's some good players or some guards. And a lot of good centers share offensive tackle, Jona Williams. He checked in today is that too rich for Cody Ford. I think so for some teams, you know, maybe not for them because they want to run the football and be physical of front. But I think I think he's more back half of the first round coming out of Oklahoma. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers guys let's get the last team in this division, the Tampa Bay bucks. You know, they're going to take shots down the field. They have the weapons to do it and Mike Evans Crisci when I'm actually really interested Todd at some point, you know, who's not an easy outta replace. I mean, he might be in terms of draft parlins, but ADEMA Humphries was a big deal for that offense last year that dude my go get some money. This off probably won't be in Tampa. I don't know what they're going to end up with putting on the table for him. But that's an that's an interesting miss from this offense. If he's not they're not sure what the future is with the Sean Jackson. I mean, Godwin and Evans you'd like it. The tendency. Here's take Bruce Arians is let's look at this offense side of the ball. But they got a lot of pieces there the mystery of Janus continues. And that's the whole thing for the buccaneers. They've gotta figure they've got to hope that presenting its comes in and gets him fixed gets the ball. Oh, quicker more consistent with his accuracy put him in a position to succeed. And then everything will start to turn around in this organization. If not then you really you've you're continuing to search for answers. Now, you're picking it five. The giants are at six Jacksonville's at seven this Kuyper. I know you love the trade ban. This could be a really good spot to move back. If you get options and take the best available offensive lineman. You know, a little bit later in the first round if you can get multiple picks, plus they have multiple needs. And they need to get better on the defensive side. They need to shore up that offensive line a little bit. And to me if you get any kind of offer to move back. It makes sense because I don't want to reach for an offensive lineman at that spot me who who do we want to take it's going to be. Huge difference maker in terms of a position we really need. Now, doesn't align. The needs don't align. Right. Where the players are the edge rusher. Montesquieu too high the offensive line to high. It's move back. If you can if you're the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and ironically, their picking if you look at it right ahead of the giants, which is a perfect spot. If you're looking to get the main Haskins a Keiler Murray that's amp obey pick. Obviously, you would think can't speak for them. But if I'm Tampa Bay at picks for sale, by the way, this is a team that obviously has needs on the defensive side of the ball safety upfront, but speaking of front there also in that weird spot where teams jump up ahead of them. Maybe you're sitting there in like and William's lands in your lap or probably not your host of. But maybe I mean, you just start playing musical chairs there, and they'd be like Josh Allen sitting there like they have the possibility of getting a really good defensive player there too. If they don't get a deal to move out there. They have to be hoping that one or two teams moved up to go. Go get a quarterback, you wouldn't presume guys. We're gonna take a quick. Quick break. And then we got a stack of mail here. Now, I'm surprised they're not thousands of people saying holy cow. It's that's over the combine. I gotta get my picture Fagin. Good thing. We got tight security here. We'll come back after the break. Take a few of your tweet questions back from the break. We've got a few questions. Mel let's get this started at B C not heard hell of the hand on. Do you see any team trading into the top ten for a non QB? It's always about. Okay. Who's gonna get Hassans who's gonna get Cuyler? What about somebody moving up for a non keep, you know? Nobody's moving up for Julio Jones this year. Anyone was going to do it. It would be or if it was for anyone it would be for Nick Bosa or Cornyn Williams. I think those two defensive line. I I think they're to me. They're one two in this class. And then there's a little bit of a drop off after Josh Allen is going to be interesting one because he falls into that category of the edge got always teams, we talk about need edge rusher. So he's perfect. He fills too. Roles, and I think when you look at a guy like Nick Bosa Nick postals coming off an injury, the injury a senior in high school, so interesting by Tom we get lay Abraham Nick boatswain, Josh Allen or sized up by everybody, but acquitted Williams had dominant year, I think there's three players you think one of those threes, and we get the five I don't the only way they could us up the quarterbacks jumping, right? And if you put one quarterback in you're gonna put to an ex expect one of those three defensive players to get the five that's out happens. So it was a possible. Yes. A probable, I don't think. So are you going to trade up for a five nine and a half quarterback? Yeah. Like you. I mean, that's that's all I'm asking a question. I don't know if somebody you were talking about they got the guts to take them where you have the guts to trade up and get them. You know, his an if you if you like him enough to take him in the first round if you're thirteen and I don't know thirteen in the dolphins. Yeah. What what the hell am I not going to trade up and go get him? If I've really liked him. If I think I have the right system in place for him to succeed. Everything basically every single quarterback drafted in the first round the last three years. I think what the exception of Baker Mayfield who was taken number one overall. You can't trade up pass one. They've been traded up for and we've seen significant jumps to Houston moving up to go. Get Shawn Watson Kansas City Chiefs going up big time to raid to go. Go up and get a Pat Mahomes. So. Listen, they don't stack up in terms of what what we saw a year ago. And at least in my opinion, there are knocked below in terms of talent. But again, there's there's only two of them in this class that you feel good about it in terms of becoming a starter in the NFL and becoming a good starter. I will say it's interesting because we keep talking. We we hear that question. A lot you're gonna trade up and get a quarterback ain't shit. I'm gonna quarterback I've seen a team trade to number three to draft Dion, Jordan. I saw the saints last year Papa to fourteen overall. Lamar jackson. Lamar jackson. It's Marcus Davenport. Like teams do trade up for things. Entities. That tend to surprise you sat there on that much. John gruden's head almost exploded lane Johnson ended up with the on Jordan. So sometimes you don't show last year. I thought maybe Lamar Jackson was Marcus Davenport. So sometimes you think you know, who they're trading up to get. And sometimes they surprise you bit. Oh, I kind of like this. This is a little nerdy. Nick Larson 'em. Nick, Larson four totally screwed that up. Would you rather have hardman? Isabella or Campbell as your undersized speed receiver mouth. All different kinds of players draft. Nerdy. So me, I think is a Bella for what he did against Florida and Georgia and understand people are going to take shots as as not as fast as he's been credited to be as best buy only UMass team. The Florida Georgia Gators Georgia BULLDOGS, I'd get all that hardman is incredibly fast he should test as one the faster players. You would think. So I think when you look at at where you're gonna get these players. Hartman runs great. That's McColl Harmon from Georgia and Ryan Ridley coming out of there as well. The other wide receiver Isaac NADA the tight end. So a lot of guys Elisha Holyfield coming out early to running back at a Georgia. We don't have. That's the one thing when you come to the combine. And we'll get these numbers these underclass, and we're guessing whatever one hundred thirty hundred and forty four I had okay. But some of those are. Underclass I consider them underclassmen. So I'll go one hundred and forty four. So you're talking more than have easily more than half of the first round and more than half of probably the first three days are going to be underclassmen that we don't we really don't know anything about right now Todd at Matt McIntyre, ask tell us couple late round running backs with some upside. Is there a Kamara they'll come are wasn't that late around but hundreds interested in coming out of Memphis guy. Other Memphis running back, the other Memphis running back usually don't get Gerald Henderson is the guy that we think is going to go earlier, but probably was receiver running back. He's got that versatility. He's got a little bit of juice miles Gaskin. I kind of like out of Washington understood another undersize guy, but quick and can catch the football. So there's some there's some pretty solid trae Trayvon Williams, Texas AM you've got him on day three. He he's not great at anything. But he's good at everything. You know, he runs with balance. He's tough. He catches the football. He'll block it as much as he possibly can. But those three guys I think could wind up being good values on day. Three mile Sanders. Worshipful at Penn State. Does he get into the third or fourth round good running back, and I think you'll get run again against the brick wall. And sometimes there wasn't enough blocking for him to do his job. And do it as affectively as capable of doing it. And I think when you look at it where he could go, you know, you could be looking at a guy gets like say into that third fourth round area. Yeah. I look at an I like the kid Devon single Terry Florida Atlantic. How does he drop Todd? Do you think he's a three pick? Seven hundred plus carries at Florida Atlantic explosive kid he is not used heavily as receive rather backfield. But he's got good tackle breaking ability got some bounce. He can certainly hit the home run third round where I'd say third or fourth round. I'm saying to you. That's Kamara went third round. I believe right third round pick. And I think you get guys like that Trayvon Williams gonna end up depending upon how he runs yet unbelievable year, and he could end up being a these running backs will usually dropped two rounds lower than they should. So again, they're going to provide just some value and all those guys can play. Speaking of running backs a bunch of questions of comment on them. And his measurements were in today. I think I saw Todd mcshay tweet mcshea thirteen stuff are there any concerns? Todd Tom sugar. Are there any concerns with Bryce love other than the injury record catch ball whose up and down catching the ball? What are you have six catches two years ago? Any chance cats. So I mean, the size in in staying healthy one in the, you know, they they kind of correlate together, obviously. And what was he two hundred pounds to flat nine two hundred five eight seven eighths inches in in two hundred pounds. So I mean, that's the big thing. And I think that's with him. That's the value discussion. You've got to figure out where where you want to take a back like that who maybe isn't ever going to be great catching the football. He better run well on workout. Well, I think in order to one's going to be ready to do that. Yep. Know coming off that injury late in the year against Cal. You know, that's going to put him in a tricky situation. Where does he become a day three pick more than we thought? Rounds? Josh that long ago. Ask him what he ate for breakfast. Exactly two hundred. You gotta be like two or three, you know. Sure. Don't think about it. You mentioned before Josh legged asked what is your take on Dalen MAC? And where do you see him going really good senior bowl week, you know, and he he's he was kind of up and down. But he's intriguing to me. I think I think in the middle rounds to get a player who has that size that ability and has some quickness to he moves better in person than I than I thought he wouldn't. So I I think he's preaching. Player now last one here. Ted out will ask no any chance and Oliver gets all the way to the Browns at seventeen. No, no, I don't think so athletic is he gonna work out test off the charts athletically, you think so. I think you will probably be two eighty five would be guess to seventy two to seventy five years. Incorrect they think to eighty five he's going to run a phenomenal forty time. I think and if you look at defensive tackle going to get a tweet from defensive tackles over the years and Dhamma can sue ran a five oh three journal McCoy at five. Oh four I think he's going to run. Joe Gino Atkins. Ran four seven five. I think he runs in the four seven range now that he's going to turn some heads athletically, and he's a guy was productive sat numbers. But was I would say he was a disruptor more than a sack guy, obviously what she wasn't. But a disrupt them three and a half tackles for loss. Only fourteen sacks though, that's a big disparity. That's really the big thing with him is if he tests off the charts, I think they will a defense line coach will say I can translate that into sacks. So I think he goes bef- Atlanta's the as far as I can see him dropping he could maybe get into the top ten to twelve. But I'd say Atlanta's the the seal the lowest he could drop in the draft. You remember in Dhamma consumes last? College game. When he went against this whole McCloy, and it was like tech mobile Lawrence Taylor. He was picking one arm and stemming destroying people. I it was it was terrifying. I always said the guy should skip the entire draft process. He's going to go top three, but indaba consumer. Zoo that was the walk on performance mall. Timers do translate when you talk about if there's a good football player. Mississippi state's got a pretty good history now producing defensive lineman. Unfortunately, Jeffrey Simmons had the injury which you have Montas when Fletcher Cox came at at six four two ninety eight he ran four seven nine thirty reps. I mean, four seven nine almost three hundred pounds Gino Atkins was to ninety run when four seven five I ROY Oliver maybe runs in a four six. Now, you're going to have to get some more folders you're going to run out of space before the commerce over guys. It was fun. First time, I think we've all been here at the combine. I'm sure of it. Do it again. Next year twist your arm. It's get them through one day. I yeah, that's. Yeah. I made the flight at least. Yeah. Sproul most missile. That's a story for the came Kuyper is gonna. Call them among I'm on my way, along my way guys that was first draft for this week. We will do it again next week with a whole stack of measurements in hand. Thanks for listening. AP Laboratory - Episode 34

"Down. What's up everybody? Thanks for joining today. My name's swan number lead. Jack analyst for ill had pride. This is the eighty laboratory coming at you with less. Days until NFL draft. I've joined as always by chief and Carolina and barley hop that is Mattie lane and Craig stout. Mattie. How're you doing today? But. Doing good where ten less than ten days out. Now, you got the draft coming up. We can get out of this ridiculous speculation sees I know the rest of my podcast grise. Here are dragging a little bit. But a long week already on Tuesday. I understand we all have those days. We're going to push through Jackson was here. It is time to get role in cheer up can't cheer up. Craig the renaissance man, tell us about your busy days have gotten you so tired already worn out. I'm sure you've walked five hundred miles and built a vehicle from scratch again and kind of make some noodles. I I haven't done anything today. I went to my day job. I sit kid over the weekend. And I've got it. So anybody with kids in daycare know, that when they come home from daycare, you're getting it, and you're just constantly on the verge of encyc- eight hit me today. So apologize. If you just hear me evacuate the room at the drop of a hat. I'll come back. It'd be seamless. See this is proof that he is in fact, human which I was beginning to question. Yeah. But he he didn't have to go to web MD to check his symptoms. He just self diagnosed like a boss. Solve treated to. Yeah. I. He went into his guarded and found some herbs and crush them all together and has has found a way to to help cure himself in his family. He was down to his lab. Got the beakers out. Start boiling some seltzer water. Add in the crushed up herbs before he gave himself his own little pill, and guess what? By tomorrow. This made is going to be running marathons, I don't have hobbies anymore. You guys have ruined. My hobby. I don't have any anymore. None of that anatomy and just man alive. Now. Matty, I'm kind of surprised that he would be able to run a marathon. Because he just got done running the Boston marathon. I mean, he is just that good that he just can keep running usually they can do back to back the back marathons Craig his his skin can sometimes have a reddish hue. But it has a very reddish. You right now because he's blushing all the fake compliments. We are getting okay. Let's talk about not Craig. Okay. Thank you. If you like the podcast channel, we would love your your five star reviews that would be wonderful. It's a thing that helps us in. It's a thing that supposedly is a good thing press B nation so would love in appreciate those five star reviews. If you have not got it yet. You still have a few days left little over week to purchase the Casey draft guide at gum dot CO slash Casey draft. We have over two hundred twenty five Ross write ups on prospects and how they fit the chiefs. There's quotes from some players about what it would be like to be achieved. Because we got a chance to ask some people. That's one thing we're going to be adding more of next year is trying to get more of those and some other stuff, we're we're excited about next year's draft guy's gonna be bonkers. But this one is still very very good. We are very proud of it. The response that you guys have given us as been fantastic guys. Seventy eight people gave us five star. A five star rating with those those draft ads. Can you believe that? Impressive. Seventy eight people ready. That's enough. I maybe sixty three of them. But. Mattie making fake accounts. It's giving slap in five star reviews. All over the place. We appreciate that. But yeah, go to gum dot CO slash Casey draft purchase, the guy if you haven't already would really appreciate it. So today, we're going to do two things we are going to do a mailbag as we do every week do that the end of the episode, but we wanna talk about three different kind of obscure draft day scenarios and the ramification of those scenario. So, you know, maybe some things that we haven't really addressed or talked about too much that, you know, some of them might be feasible some of them might not. But we're going to go through three scenarios in kind of do some mini mock drafts based on you know, some of those things that you know, we may be have not addressed too, much or. Relatively feasible. So Matty, give us our first draft scenario, and then we will mock the rest of that thing. So one thing that I don't think that we've talked about enough on our podcast here is just what happens when the board doesn't fall very good fulls terribly for the chiefs. And we've seen a lot of mock draft scenarios we've run some where we've taken a safety or reach a little bit for a corner at the end of round one just because the board isn't what we want. There's no first round corners. None of the top in defensive ends left on the board. So we take a different position something that we kind of a group hunted talked about enough. I don't think is what if the chiefs really do just go with the best player vailable approach. What if that happens to be often to player? No. I don't mean Gary bradberry. I understand why some people like him. I we've done that dance. The last two weeks this week. We're going go receiver and again, the popular pick has been Hollywood Brown lately. Just for us. I don't think that he's gonna great out that high just the size concerns there. I think there's issues with his hands. How approaches the ball the catch point? There's enough concerns that he's not even compounds that that's a concern when you actively less than I did as a middle school. That is a problem the NFL or maybe a problem about middle school, or let's let's not go into that. The both. So here take twenty nine I'm gonna take my third highest graded wide receiver. Thank this is the second for us. And that's the other ole miss wide receiver in AJ Brown. I think he's a perfect fit for the chiefs from the aspect of he did most of his damage out of the slot. That's kind of where the chiefs to be replacing most of their snaps. Yes. Tyree kills and walk ins, even Travis Kelsey all can plans lot. But for the most part, those are all outside guys or Travis Kelsey case he's gonna play in lined or split out one. But a full time slot receiver something that she don't have AG Brampton play inside. He can play outside. He runs some of the better routes in the class. And he might have the best pair of hands in terms of consistency. And the way he attacks the ball. He's just very polish wide receiver that would be considered an absolute physical freak if he didn't play and work out one side decay that calf when you see those pictures, you see decay, met Catholic like a superhero, and you glance over the side AJ Browns, and completely phenomenal athlete in great. Shape. But nobody cares because he's standing next to d- came back. It's just little stuff like that. I think that he really is a very polished receiver. He's ready to plan day. One has great upside. So we're sitting there at twenty nine no corners, no defensive ends left. And rather than reaching. We just want to kind of take the highest rated player left. There's a good chance for me that's gonna be AJ Brown. And I'm not really too sad about that pick is unlike some other receivers talked about I see the upside and the safer floor that you get out of them. Yeah. And then put him back around sixty one here. The chiefs now have to address defense in some way, at this point a lot of the edge rushers are gone. They were going early. So there's not really a whole lot of value there and going forward in this draft. And there was also a little bit of a mini run on corners. You kinda get near the bottom of the second grouping of corners here with Clemson cornerback Trayvon Molen. He's got guy that makes a lot of sense for Steve Spagnolo. He's a guy that is long. He's got versatility. You can play man coverage. He can play zone coverage. Is he compla- match coverage? You can play a little bit of everything, and he's not afraid to come up and lay a hit. He's a guy that makes a lot of sense. We've got high, you know, fit or likelihood for Trayvon Molen. I think that it this point here this. About the right spot for him. He's a guy that could come in and develop and be a potentially good player in the next year or two so moving to pick sixty three and this was the next part of kinda my whole concept here with this draft. It's not just chiefs taking a wide receiver. But it's the whole part of the score. One hundred campaign were sitting there at sixty three we're going to have to go ahead and go with the next kind of best player. Again, this time we're going with Elton Jenkins interior offense lineman most likely center at Mississippi State, not taking Brad brain the first round don't take interior offense lineman in round one with the end of the second round player like Elton Jenkins would be a great addition. The team helped shore up that Senator position get that offense going on all cylinders they strength even stronger, and then on the ninety two Kent is up and we're going to dress the defense because you know, you go offense twice early. I think you need to piggyback that with another defensive player, and I'm taking my guy tristen hill. From central Florida. Yes, my guy, and he's he's or guy. He I mean, he's pretty much all of our guys. I think at this point like, I think we all just. You know, what I had to watch a bunch of really bad quarterbacks and a bunch of very average running backs. So God forbid, I get one of Matty's Matty's interior defensive linemen twenty six or whatever it is. Because he's had so much luck there. But Tristan hill some of the most fun tapers entire class. I think is best football as a head of him. He has an excellent I very disruptive in once. He figures things out. He's going to be a good player. Craig kind of lay out this next this next scenario that we're going to run through real quick. Just kind of tell me, you know, give us give us the scenario here. Okay. In the past decade there have only been four tightens taken in the first round. I everybody knows that TJ Hawkins is going to go in the first round this year. But it's not a regular thing for teams to take a tight end early. If he doesn't go. Early and teams focus on really, you know, this outrageously good defensive line class. It could be that TJ Hawkins in falls. And if TJ Hawkins and falls to around pick twenty one that chiefs may find themselves unable to resist Andy Reid, maybe wants to operate out of twelve personnel more often, and who makes more sense and TJ Hopkinson to do that he trades. Pick ninety two to go up and get I tied in TJ Hawkins in the best player on their board. At that point. There are no Cornerbacks are left or edge rushers said, hey, go after that. Okay. So now the chiefs are sitting here with three top one hundred picks. So the decision making process, obviously has to be tweaked a little bit now because they've moved up aggressively to grab a great football player in TJ Hawkin. But now they're stuck with pick sixty one and sixty three probably can't move up too much with those. With that draft capital. They're probably stuck at sixty one in sixty three so the ramifications are now you've kind of got you kind of stuck with those picks most likely, Mattie where we go in at sixty one if this were the scenario so with that trade up and not having a Tana capital. Lessen the top one hundred actually kinda changes the draft strategy on the fly a little bit. Because now you guys can step in and play right away. You don't have the time to wait and take more developmental guy like say Johnson or a Lonnie Johnson. So instead they're gonna take quarterback at Notre Dame Julian lows, and this is a guy that we haven't talked about much. We don't think he fits that. She's kind of what they're looking for in a corner, particularly well, he's a little bit smaller. There's some questions if he can play inside and outside if he's going to be limited to just a nickel corner, but he's got similar sized kindle fuller. He's a guy that has shown me to play outside at the college level and a high level. The big thing for him is just he's ready to play right now. He complains zone. He complained mad. He does show. Good ball steals. And he's willing to be physical and mix it up H just the whole. That he can come in and play right now if they need him too. And with limited picks in the top one hundred especially the team that needs this much defensive help. He could see him move up there board a little bit more because he doesn't need as much seasoning before he's ready to go. I'm a love fan. I love me, some some love and. Sixty three we were going gonna dress the edge. I love love love love love. Love love love. We're gonna address the edge position at sixty three. Because it's mandatory that we address cornerback in edge. It's contractual, and it's a contractual obligation on. No, no that's over over my dead body. That's just there's no it's my nightmare going with Ben, Hugh. I'm going into the big twelve defensive lineman of the year. Some pass rush productivity another. No guy that fits the profile that Steve Spagnolo, typically covets productive pass rusher length, and then the cheese could have Ogbeh amid Hugh and Okeafor like that's just an elite. It's just the three os. Oh in Bruins. Okay. So let's go to the next. So the next traits. The next area is something that we get asked a lot about for the chiefs to trade back if it if they should trade back, and like, I think that's kind of a hard question to ask just because you know, we don't know how the boards gonna play out or how the boards gonna lay out. But I, you know, we get that question a lot. And I'm sorry. If we can't answer some of your questions because we do have some redundancy like we try to address some of these questions, but like we've just Ardy answered a lot of them, you know, in in previous episodes in this is when we get a lot. So we're just gonna kinda lay it out if the chiefs were to trade back, let's just say they didn't like how the board fell and they found a good deal on the trade chart picks thirty six and one hundred four from San Francisco or about even that's about good value. I think that the San Francisco comes out a little bit higher on the draft draft chart that you can find in the gays draft guide. But so let's just kind of go. This scenario pick thirty six the chiefs started pick thirty six they have five picks in the top one hundred four which is kind of an interesting concept, and we'll start off with Amani or Awari a the cornerback from Penn State's. He's a guy that we've talked a lot about at this point got to talk to him at the senior bowl seems like a high character kid probably needs to get better tackling, but he's got some ball skills. He's good in zone coverage. And you know, if he kinda grows in develops his technique in man coverage. I think you know, he's he's got he's got a pretty good ceiling who we're going with at sixty one creek at sixty one we are going to the offense. We are looking at wide receiver. We need a another big body to be able for Pat to target especially in the red zone. So we're going out and getting JJ arsia Whiteside. He is a huge receiver. And he wins with jump balls. He's not a particularly great athlete. His release isn't very smooth. It's going to affect timing routes, but he. He is a big dude that will go up and get the ball. He just kinda got a natural ability to box dudes out. He he's gonna be he's gonna make a lot of sense. You know, they went out and got Kelvin Benjamin last year. He kinda can play that same sort of role. Only, you know, maybe not as highly regarded. Pick sixty three with extra picks. And this scenario kind of the opposite of the last one, I think you can take a little bit more of a risky pick, a guy that needs more seasoning. That's maybe not ready to come in and play right away. So we have the chiefs still and he's gonna take linebacker Alabama back Wilson once upon a time some people had him in contention with linebacker one overall, not the first guy taken in the whole draft. Just the top linebacker in the class. He's fallen quite a bit since then he had a rough college playoffs. He just looked a little out of place. And that's happened. Two times that's him at times throughout his career at Bama it. Kind of seems like he needs a little time to sit back. Learn what he's supposed to be seeing how to process it a little bit more clean. But he still does present a modern age linebacker, especially Mike or will. And with the way that she's are looking to play Anthony Hitchens's, a will then Reggie Ragland as the mic they might be looking for a true, Mike linebackers. That's not going to be door. Daniel either they might be looking for a guy that can really step in and take that role at some point in time. So taken back Wilson these there at the end of the second round when he doesn't have to play on day one. But he can spin this spend this year learning getting his eyes fixed a little bit in terms of what he's supposed to be seeing there's a high potential there and with the extra pick this the kind of time you make a move like this. Yeah. Ninety two foot back around you need an edge. We know what Steve spec Nola once in his edges. We we've said it over and over long strong down to get the friction on. So I got that. We haven't really talked about a lot that is kind of flirting around with that late day three or that late round three early round for range is Miami defensive end. Joe jackson. He six four to seventy five long arms strong guy. He's he's very inconsistent. He's not a guy that necessarily you're gonna turn on the tape and be wowed by him. But he does have the kind of profile that Steve Spagnolo was looking for he'd be a guy that would fit in well with the same rotation of those guys you're going to have a lot of guys that can line up all over the place and be functional all over the place. He would make some sense in this defense. I think those are the kind of guys that if you're gonna wait until ninety to address edge like that's what you're going to be with. Yeah. And that's what you're getting which I think is part of the reason that we've talked so much about you know, the guys that are in that sixty sixty and earlier kinda range. Okay. So you. The cheese seven extra pick. They've got. They've got an extra pick at one of four and we're going to dress the safety position with marquees Blair from Utah. He's a guy that we got to talk to at the senior bowl as well has a very slender waist like a boy a very slender frame. And it makes me wonder if he's going to be able to hold weight consistently at the next level, and as he's kind of working through stuff, but really strong athletic profile. And I think he he flies all over the field. He's kind of inconsistent as tackler he has the athletic traits to play as a single high safety, but he really needs to work and develop that side of his game. His best plays. We're kind of closer to the line of scrimmage, but I think he's gonna have to play deep if he's going to have success the next level. But I think this is a strong pick here, you know, this late in the process with with a good developmental safety. We really haven't spent a ton of time talking about. Out. But I think we're fans this is about where we value him. But that was kind of a scenario where the chiefs are getting five football player stone of the Knicks. Maybe not a guy that you're loving getting. You know, you'd rather have, you know, clo- fairl in a trade up or Byron Murphy, or, you know, one of those guys if you just take that step back to that kind of, you know, early the late thirties that's kind of what you're getting. And you get an extra football player out of it. So there's you know, there's a lot of protest to take their and that's a strong twenty twenty draft right there. Like looking forward to how those guys can contribute twenty. That's a really strong twenty twenty draft at last one. Yeah. And I mean, I want one or two of these guys will contribute in the first year. And you know, you've given yourself a chance for you to hit on a couple of these guys because you've spread out value across the top one hundred players. So you've got five players in that top four. Yeah. We've talked about. A little bit before in the past two. If you sit there twenty nine and you lose the defensive ends, and you lose the kind of the top two corners instead of forcing a quarterback at twenty nine. Why not trade back in this situation? Seven spots draft a guy that you would likely still be considering at twenty nine anyway, or at least an equal player there and pick up this extra pick in this case one four it would make zero cents not to explore this route. If that's what you were looking at pick twenty nine which would be the case if we're making the move anyway, so it's a little stuff like that that might affect the chiefs that we aren't talking about enough at this point in time in terms of not looking too serious about trade back as often as we should. And the other thing you kinda got to add to this is ninety two or one oh four is very easily trade chip to move up from that sixty one sixty three spot to you know, that's another place that no approach that you can take where? Yeah, you're still you know, you're making four top ninety two picks. But now you're getting two players in the top fifty instead of. You know, just one. So that's one of the approaches that they can take where they still have a lot of picks. I don't know we can explore that maybe sometime in the next ten days. I doubt it because we're running out of time because the drafts almost here. But I I don't hate the idea of if they if they fall into that if they just kind of fall into a bad spot at twenty nine they're not able to move up for the guys they want just just trade back just just grab an extra asset. And then you've got a lot more to work with. Just you have to Jay Brown. I mean, that's. Yeah. I thought we were selling draft. So that people could vote for mine over years Kent gonna lose. Nobody wants to trade up for even awesome one. Vote. We ain't trying to vote just saying that because you know, I'm gonna win. This isn't a democracy. You just change the rules halfway through the process. Yes. I saw my squad. Verse your squad. I wanted to win. I dunno. So we're going to take a break we will be back with the mail bag right after this. Hello. I'm Spencer hall from Espy nation. And I want to tell you about my new show. And we will close this thing out this week with a bag as we try to do every week. We'll start with brand four twenty two asking me if there's any executive over eating the tweet yet, and the tweet would be I'll eat this tweet if the chiefs pick at twenty nine a little bit. I think some of the scenarios that could wind up playing out. If maybe what we'll talk about here is that they traded. One of their assets for potentially defensive in on the open market or something like that. I actually like now more than ever I think there's a possibility that they could stay at twenty nine actually, Mattie. What do you think about that? Do you think do you think that she's picking at twenty nine if you if you had gone to your head today? As of right now the second. I don't think so I've been pretty pretty strong with that opinion that I don't think they can sit there at pick twenty nine and hope somebody falls them. And if they do it you're gonna get an equal player. That's their twenty nine most likely ten fifteen twenty spots behind that. So I would either move up or down. Stay twenty nine seems like a weird purgatory to me. They're definitely picking it twenty nine can't. And they're picking Jeffrey Simmons like that's how I thought there. Jalen, Ferguson, if it's Jalen service of Louis to tweets. Well, can we let's table that? Because there's another question that kind of alludes to some stuff there. But I think he'll. Twee and less point, eight seconds. There's a lot of things you can do less than eight point seconds. So. Put put a bookmark in that. I'm sure we're gonna have a chance to talk about Jaylen Ferguson here in a minute. There's there's two things that are constant on this show. It's me talking about my disdain for Jalen. Ferguson's three cone and your bed takes. No, no. My my food. Takes are great. It's Utah Guston. So that's going to happen at some point crack AG Richard six asks what would it take for the chiefs to trade for Frank Clark? And who would you rather trade for Clark or a trade for clo- and Farrell? So I I do think it's still like, I think a second round pick makes a lot of sense. We've been talking about this a lot a behind the scenes, you know, because it seems like there's a chance that it could happen Seahawks. Have no leverage like they really don't at this point in. It does look like they're pushing up to the cap at this point too. So they don't they aren't cer- certainly aren't spending like a team that is into spitting Clark being. On on this roster. And I think a cigarette makes sense Craig actually mad him and ask you this. I what like what are your thoughts on the Frank Clark is the player just give just give me a quick what what you think about him as a player? Yeah. Hit it, Mattie. So Fred Clark to be. He's a good pass rusher. I think everybody sees Frank Clark in the defense. He plays in assumes. He's another speed rusher. Like they normally have as their Leo weakside defensive end. And he's got that kind of explosion of line. He is a great pass rusher. But he wins a lot more with ten of power. He's a bigger thicker defensive. He's got long arms. He knows how to play with them. He plays with so much power is speed the power Russia's probably make up the most consistent point of his pass rushing game. And he's very dominant with it the add onto that he does have that notch explosion. He has good counter moves. He's a complete pass rusher that winds consistently through power rather than speed, which seems to be something that we think he spent Knowle's going to be more interested in for the chiefs defense and on top of that he's a quality run-defender. He's not gonna sit there at set hard edges double teams or anything, but he's more than capable disregarding titans. Moving them out of the way, taking on tackling and making stop. So he's a perfect fit the chief system as a defensive end. It's just a matter if you could. By him away from Seattle right now who actually might be over the cap with the Russell Wilson move and the one with signing twelve other free agents the past two days, Craig I wanna ask you this question the second half this question. Would you rather trade sixty one for Clark or trade? It's called twenty nine in ninety two for clone. Farrell. What would you do I love groom feral? I think that he is going to be a really good player in this league for a really long time. And I think making that move makes the chiefs better. However, your window is open. Now, it is open for the next two years while Patrick Mahomes is on his rookie deal and feral while he will eventually get to the point where we he will be probably a seven eight nine sack a year guy. And that's great year. One pass rushers drafted in the first round average right around four sacks a year. That when we were talking about it earlier this week, we're kinda counting up sex that the chiefs may reasonably be able to expect would put them under forty sacks for the year. Now, that's not a death knell by any sense of the word, but a guy getting about four sacks in a rotation is going to have much less effect for the next two years while the window was opened that Frank Clark will have an even though you're having to pay him a lot more money. You can structure it in a way that you can get out of it before you really have to make count. I would trade for Frank Clark. Especially just for to I agree. And even though the contract is, you know, I it's it's gonna be big huge. Now you now have pig. Twenty nine one of your segue. Pigs most likely maybe they give up twenty nine. I don't think that they will. I think it's going to be a segment pick. But if if that was the case you pay Frank Clark, whatever you pay you still got your first round pick a singer pig in third round play to pay. To play around with you can really improve that team address other areas. I mean that would be that'd be a lot of fun chief. Let's eleven asks what game is on your radar for the two thousand nineteen season. I think obviously the patriots game for me is a big one Craig. I. Both Los Angeles chargers games. I I wanna see this this year. They they got the chiefs. Once I feel like Andy Reid is going to try and put it on the chargers as much as possible this year. I honestly have not looked a single big at the chiefs upcoming schedule. It is giraffe's and right now not look ahead twenty nineteen season schedule. So I was at the patriots kit took them 'cause I did know he played them. I was gonna then my backup plan was well the chargers because they just finally beat us. And then Craig went that route. So guess the only other team that I know that we play out of the division is Baltimore. And I guess I can watch that triple audit triple option offense for ten and see what happens I'll get more into the schedule as the draft is over right now, we're trying to figure out who's on the team rather than who replying Maddie. I wanna pivot because we were having this conversation earlier in this. I really just wanted to kind of go this direction. I wasn't even going to ask you both who you wanted to who was what game on your radar because I did want to have this conversation. There's rumors out there that the chiefs are opening the season with New England on Sunday night. Would you rather play them week one? Or would you rather play them week fifteen because I think I would rather play them early. I know you would rather play them late. So you go ahead make the case for late. And then I'll close it out with. Why think that I would rather play New England early? I think. So yeah, if you play New England early in the season, and you beat them. What does it matter? It's just like any other one on the schedule just another one we might as well play the raiders or any other team that you can meet early in the season because that is not what playoff or Super Bowl patriots odd rather play them late in the year. Get a litmus test game in right in week fifteen right before you can start to especially if you have a lead in the conference division kinda take your foot off the pedal little bit and get into healthy going the playoffs play them late in the year. Get the best that they have to offer. So you know, where you stand beating the patriots early on does nothing for you. They're still figuring out. They come out and tell you that they're not playing to win a game in September. They're playing to win the Super Bowl. So who cares? If you beat the patriots early on. It's no different than beating the Aaron cardinals at that point in time. Whereas the week fifteen win over the patriots give confidence in it helps you know where you are in what you're going to be facing going through the play offs. So that's what stands for me as thank is terms of confidence booze in competitive edge. Edge it gives you more information when you play team like the patriots later in the Ian of its loss. Get more out of that. Then you get from a win in the beginning of the year. I think there's a lot of arguments like that make sense with what you're saying. And I kind of go back and forth on it too. But at the same time like what it always comes down to me for me is the chiefs. Winning to New England in week one with a new look, you know, with their new looks with their best looks without you know, without anybody having to be being able to scout m end just and set the world on fire, and I like any read having all off-season to prep for Bill Belichick early. The, you know, the couple of hangups to like Bill check, it seems like his defenses are always figuring it out over time. And so early in the season it looks rough. And they start figuring things out. I think the chiefs are going to be in a similar boat too. So that gave we'll be fun, and obviously Tom will be hundred percent healthy at that point. Because I think wick week fifteen ish for for Tom Brady last year was rough. So I'm not even sure was that was that was that the dolphins game. Because like I he went through a rough stretch. So I'm not even sure you're really getting a good look at at what the patriots would be that late anyway. But I just think like I I want I want I want I. Stack wins. And I know that you want a good barometer late in the year. But like I just wanna stack winds I wanna get wins and winning on the road in New England would be a huge help for home field advantage. And that's really I'd rather have a less of an idea of what to expect late in the season against team like doing Lind. I'd rather have the one-seat copious to asks only a semi Watkins in Byron Pringle or under contract for two thousand twenty. The tyreek situations obviously certain shouldn't we be talking about the chiefs drafting multiple wide receivers next week and one fairly high. I know we talked a little bit about receivers earlier. But should we be should we be more aggressively talking about taking a wide receiver in around one, Mattie Koby? I'm glad you asked because we should I feel like we've done a pretty good job of this podcast talking about the possibility of around to wide receiver, which I think in this class counts as a highly drafted weather Seaver. But even looking at the two guys that are here. Sammy Watkins in Byron Pringle, one didn't play all last year. Sammy Watkins contract is made to get out of after this year. If you don't bring back Taibbi killer, obviously gonna keep walking around at least for that final year. But it's team that needs receivers especially fill is in the long term plan. So yeah, looking is receiver at pick twenty nine probably is a backup plan to defensive player. Or just the fact that it's the best player available on the board. But it's an option in if you don't see when there I would be a little surprised if you get out of day to without seeing wide receiver drafted by the chiefs is like you said this team that needs wide receivers. They loved the spread the field out in use multiple three four wide receivers at the time. I love Byron Pringle. But I'm not sure I'm ready to have him be the only option that role right now, not only should they target one this year. I don't know that they should do multiples because next year's class. And I know that everybody hears it and hate it. But seriously next year's wide receiver class is. Low did bonkers bonkers ridiculous. If you watched any college football this year and went oh, wow. That receivers really good. He's in next year's class. Like Levinsky should all I receiver from Bama. Yes. Guys favorite receiver going in the next year right now off the CD see dealer come on. Now, you can't come out here and take my guy when I asked viscous Chanel. I'm going this guy. I really like him. I don't know if he's the best player in this class receiver in this class. But like every time I watch him. I come away. Just like impressed. I had CD lamp to. He was my guy once I lay out Mak Wilson that locked in you come up with somewhere else. I think Jerry Judy believe he he's there. Yeah. And he's a guy that I don't think it has quite as much production some other guys as right now, he's not catching on. But in terms of how transitions to the NFL. He's a guy that I'm high up there. So I didn't up you crack, just know Bono, your home it. But I mean, it makes a lot of sense to add a guide this year, get him integrated. And then bring in a guy next year as a third wide receiver, or you know, shoulder and a little more that load and going forward, and then you have to rookie wide receiver contracts to play with Patrick Mahomes that works that's that's a good plan of attack. When you're having to pay Patrick Mahomes after twenty twenty and I just want to add I think LG swear kind of asked a similar question. What makes sure shout him out? I think something like I'm going to try to do better about that. Just like if there's multiple of the same questions we just need to shout. Everybody shout. Everybody else who asked it because I mean, we want we want to give you probably we get a lot of like sometimes be a lot of the same questions. But you know, you guys all ask great questions we pre sheet Andrew Metcalfe seven asked how high could you see that? She's trading up top twenty top fifteen top tanned. And what player has the best chance of sliding where the cheese trade for him? So I'll just talk a little bit about. Like trade up scenarios. I don't think that she's realistically can get up to thirteen or any like that top fifteen minutes. I think that's going to be a challenge. One scenario. I have played through within my head that I think they could do it with is maybe trading. One of their second round picks. And then a twenty twenty second round pick potentially to move up to thirteen like if the dolphins. I like the dolphins are good value. If they really are taking for twenty twenty and they want draft capital to make sure that they get their quarterback. Like, maybe they want an extra segment pick next year. Maybe that's a move that they could do to get all the way up to thirteen. But I think realistically a second round pick gets you about that seventeen eighteen range in your third around pick will get you into that twenty one to twenty four range, and I think those are the two plays that actually make sense for the chiefs. If they're going to do that. I'm gonna do this Craig, and I'm gonna do this for Matty too. But I'm asking you Craig gimme one player as a good chance of sliding to. Let's call it eighteen. Clearly for the easy one to pick there. But let's let's think a little bit outside the box there. Let's go with Brian burns. I we we've heard that the NFL's a little lower on him. Then, you know, a straffed analyst types are. But he's a guy that could fall. I don't know. Chiefs would take him just because he's light. But he he's a guy that could fall that eighteen ish range. Okay. Mattie sink question. Give me a guy that you think could potentially be there that twenty one to twenty four range, and if we need to say clone, we can say Clinton. Enclose the obvious obvious answer there. I think we're going to go. So here's the thing for us. I think Byron Murphy still being there at that point would be a little bit of a slide. It is don't know if that's going to be the case for the NFL so to come a little bit of left field. We're gonna say Maan has sweat if the heart conditions in cause more issues. It sounds like the NFL's more than okay with what he had going on seeing that they let him work out the combine haven't heard anything about it sense. It seems like he past medical reach heads. But after seeing what happened last researchers whose condition seems to be a lot worse. I can't say for certain that everyone's gonna feel okay with him and his condition add onto that going into the combine his tape wasn't seen as the sugar fire top fifteen kinda lot. There's a path that he could fall down a little bit in the there the early twenties man, he'd be great fit. That's a fair. I think that's a fair assessment. Mattie. Like, I mean, who knows I've I I heard someone say this week that, you know, Montas sweat might be off the board for some teams because of this just because you know, it may not be a severe as what happened with MAURICE Hurst. Where is basically the raiders were the only team that had him on the board. You know? I mean, maybe maybe maybe he does follow bit. Or some teams take him off the board Matty can pull that bookmark out from the Jalen Ferguson conversation from earlier because I'm pretty sure he's gonna make an appearance on this next question to pillow Dan asks what are the chances Brett VH draft someone out of left field in either the first or the second round? And who is someone you could see him drafting high that would stunned the national media or the head pride media. Go. I think there's a lot of options. I think we've talked a lot throughout year. Like, I think wide receivers one hundred percent play for the first round. But we have to talk about it some more jailing for he's a guy that fits with the chiefs are looking for a defensive end. Jalen, Ferguson is a guy that has a ton of college production. There's a lot of people out there that absolutely love his tape. He just tested extremely extremely poorly and Kint Swanson hates him like food. I'm sure he's a wonderful human being probably maybe he was not my favorite interview. When I was able to talk to him or hear him talking at the senior bowl. However, he was not rude. He was not anything like that. He just was not my favorite guy to talk to. But some people love he's the guy to go earlier than I think a lot of the quote unquote, haters expected to go so seeing him going the top fifty top seventy five picks almost seems like a lock to me if the chiefs. Thirteen to do it. I would not be surprised at all. But here's the thing. If this happens if the cheese take Jaylen for the first two rounds, not only is going to eat a tweet. He is gonna do it while running a self eight. Oh, eight three cone at the same time. On hard hard. Film. It. Lander is you have I actually think you need to go out and fill yourself running three cone, and you better hope that it is better than eight. Oh, eight. Yeah. I think I could be very hard not to Craig gimme someone that you would kind of be surprised to see that. She's taking in round one. I'll go a little different here. Let's say it's the end of the first round a lot of guys like on the board or gone. They trade back to the early second. And when it spins back around a lot of the Cornerbacks are on the board. And they take law ni Johnson out of early in the second round. Mandalay heirachy big guy on the outside. NFL loves him more than lots of people do that would be that would throw everybody for a loop especially over adjust in lane or an Amani or award or Joe one Williams. Yeah. That one. That would be one. It makes a lot of sense. And that's actually something that will be talking about a little bit. That's some of the logic. I used for exercise that we will be talking about on the draft show on Friday because Johnson makes an appearance on that show as well with one of the exercises that we all did with Jake. It's gonna be fun. But that's that's I mean that would make a lot of sense I-, Craig. I'm not sure that they wouldn't take him at twenty nine because I think Daniel Jeremiah mocked him to twenty today. Oh my goodness. Which I think would be crazy mine is another guy that has been getting that like thirty ish range L J Collier, the edge from TCU. He didn't test like Ed particularly high level for an edge. And that kind of scares me. He's a decent football player. I think we kind of have them fringe dates three, you know, in that kind of range. That's a guy. I if. If the media is real about that like that would surprise me. And I would not be thrilled with that. That'd be a very brilliant speaks in selection. If he was there at at twenty nine, okay? I wanna ask this question. Nate c h four seventy nine asks hypothetical. How many years of immunity has Andy Reid built up before Clark hunt thinks of changing the coach Eddie read has exactly as much leash as Andy Reid. Once. Andy Reid is going to be here until he retires Clark hunt is going to give him all the leniency in the world. I just don't see a scenario where Andy Reid could screw up enough especially with how much that he's one since he's been here in Kansas City. They progressively gotten better. I mean there were in the AFC championship game last year. He would have to fail pretty pretty hard for him. For Clark hunt to be fed up with him and move on to change the coach. So it's. Until Andy retires. I agree with Craig saying like I do think they until Andy wants to move on where his syncing to be over the only wildcard. I don't see how this would happen. But if there's back to back or maybe three losing seasons with a healthy, Patrick, Mahomes, just based on what we've seen. I don't see how you would not make a change. If something happens in the chiefs cannot win games with Patrick Mahomes, still playing well, but he just obviously is taking the step back based on the upside you've seen if that happens for multiple use. I don't know how you could just sit there and stick him with Andy Reid, you would have to put the blame somewhere. And if you're not gonna put it on Patrick Mahomes, which at this point. I don't think you can't if you're the City Chiefs, it would have to go to Andy Reid. That's the only realistic way. I could see happening now by his own choice. Yeah. These aren't realistic scenarios in which Patrick LeVine, Mahomes is doing anything. That's keeping this team doubt. I mean, like if Patrick Bohm's is healthy, I eat they're they're gonna be it it, which is like it's absurd that Kansas City finally has someone that is like that. But like, I don't I don't know if there's any real scenario that like it's realistic unless the chiefs went Owen sixteen for two years, but that would be because something bad happened to Patrick live on Mahomes and. Saying that that grouping of words together. Let's let's stop with that group. Didn't sound right. Just. Call another grown by his full just got in trouble by your parents name kids. The Lightning Round Podcast #181: Mock Draft Madness 2019

"Onto white mold Carter. This is the lightning round podcasts with your host Garrett sixty and Jamie oil charges. Go. Welcome everybody like around podcast. I am Garrett. Sixty of course, at gear sits on Twitter Jamie, of course, at lightning underscore around. You know, the deal we've been here for a while are v mock draft madness here, thanks for joining us. We appreciate it for those of you. That are new what we're going to do is first of all we're going to list are first-round grades all off season. We've talked about what players we thought deserved. A first round grade. We're going to break down our top, however, many first round grades. We've got I've got fourteen I think Jamie's got sixteen. Yep. So we'll break down our top guys at first round picks. And then we're going to do mock drafts. It's going to be four total. I'm going to do what I think the charges are gonna do Jamie's going to do a mock draft. We thinks charges will do. And then we're going to do our personal mock drafts, I will do one Jamie do one. So it truly is mock draft madness because we're doing four mock drafts. But before we get to that. And the first round. Picks. We got some news. And the last thing that happened before last time we had a podcast was Travis Benjamin signed an extension if you had to name one player, you thought it was going to get an extension this off season from the charge, Jamie. How far down was Chevron Benjamin on your list? He was not on the list. He was off completely was off. So they extended Travis Benjamin to one more year. They did I think I saw a lot of people freaking out about this on Tuesday morning. And I think it's important to point out kind of. The real reason for this extension and first of all I would say looking at this as an extension is kind of an over simplification of what actually happened. I think what you see here is the chargers decided and probably rightly so that they're not entirely comfortable with their wide receiver depth going into the offseason. So without knowing what's going to happen in the draft. Or after the draft they decided to keep a quote unquote veteran presence on the on the roster wide receiver. So I think that was the primary kind of driving force behind the quote, unquote extension. They gave. I also think that this was really obviously about cutting cost. I think those are the two the two primary driving factors was keeping some depth. So that they could kind of evaluate the young wide receivers. Jeremy Davis Arteta, Scott and Dylan Cantrell without too much pressure for them to produce. And they obviously still retain the right to make Travis Benjamin of a June oppose June one cut if he doesn't if he doesn't hack it in camp. But also they wanted to save some money so through giving him a two year extension with three million dollar guarantee. They wind up saving themselves, basically two and three quarter million dollars against the cap this year. So that's a pretty significant savings and because Benjamin was in the last year deal. They couldn't do it without extending him because there was nowhere for deferred money to go. So they gave him an extra deal. But it's basically are they gave an extra year excuse me. But it's basically an empty extra year. They kind of threw him aboard. On gave him a little bit more guaranteed money. But I think everybody here understands that Benjamin probably will not be on this roster in twenty twenty. They're obviously hoping the young receiver step up and fill the fill void. And that it gives them the opportunity to move on from Benjamin who has already lost his job as the primary kick and punt returner, and now sees himself falling further and further down, the the depth chart. So he will make believed the numbers three and three quarter million dollars this year total for a total savings of two and three quarter million dollars. So they get they get a discount. He'll fall down the depth chart. He will probably continue losing snaps. Probably will not be returning punts and kicks, and he will be one of the first guys to go during the twenty twenty offseason, at least, that's my guess. Yeah. So a lot of it was about creating cap space. I mean, they didn't want outright cut them. You were talking about keeping depth. They have a lot of young guys and tyrod Williams left. In free agency. So you know, you could say that they didn't want to sacrifice wide receiver depth. They create a cap space now, which means they could sign a player before the draft. Or after the draft. They got some flexibility and then next off season. They're able to cut him. They just added that kind of funny extra year, it's a year in theory. But it's not something that's gonna last he took the pay cut this year. So they can build some room on the roster. So while hearing extension sounds bad. What they did is they save themselves money without outright, cutting them still keeping him on the roster, and then able to just get rid of in twenty twenty the plan all along. But by giving of throwing them a bone like you mentioned and keeping him for twenty twenty though we all know he will not be there in two thousand twenty. Yeah, we talked about this early in the season. We said that it made sense financially for them to cut them. But with tyrod moving on and so much uncertainty surrounding the three guys behind Travis on the depth chart and Scott Cantrell. And Davis that we didn't think it was likely they'd cut him. Just because there wasn't a whole lot of veteran presence behind Keenan and Mike Williams. So make sense. You know, you you buy you buy some time maybe kick the can down the street a little bit on drafting a wide receiver by yourself a year. Save yourself some money creates and cap space and create a less stressful environment for some of these young guys to compete and camp. And who knows maybe still forced Benjamin off the roster. Because like I said they could still make him a post June one cut and without too much, you know, brain damage so to speak. I doubt they do that. But it's a possibility so Benjamin's theoretically here gives them some flexibility to next year and kinda in the draft. You know, they can maybe wait a couple rounds if they're comfortable with it. They've got some young guys. And of course, Benjamin could be gone before the season even start so not much to worry about there. So let's go ahead and get into our draft stuff. And let's talk about our first round picks because we've been doing it all off season long. We've been talking about who we think deserves first round picks. And if you're new here we never ever have ever had thirty two guys with first round picks. So so now this year again, we do not have thirty two picks. I've got fourteen you've got sixteen Jamie. Let's go down the list. I don't know if you wanna go sixteen to one or one to sixteen but give me the players in order that deserve a first round pick in two thousand eighteen draft class also from the bottom and work my way up, but I I do think when you disclaimer here, and that we did not at least I didn't watch any interior linemen. And I don't know if you did did you watch an interior office of Lyman. No, no, I did not eat. So that's to entire position groups that aren't even included in this. I think we need to point that out. Right. Yeah. Because gear Bradbury's a popular name that a lot of guys are talking about in the first round didn't even watch them. And I know you didn't either. So. Yeah. No guards or centers just tackles that we watched. Right. So of the guys we've watched let's start with sixteen move your way up to one. I guess I have fifteen excuse me. All right, so I- fifteen total players, Cody Ford is number fifteen ninety JJ or Sega Whiteside. Number fourteen with ninety at all over is number thirteen with ninety. Devon, white is number twelve with a ninety one day. Andre Baker number eleven with ninety one. Byron Murphy is a number ten at number ten with ninety two. Cianci garter Johnson is number nine with ninety two Devon Bush number eight with ninety two my number seven overall players Juwan Taylor with ninety two. My number six overall player is David Montgomery with ninety three. My number five. Overall player is Joan Williams with ninety three. My number four overall player is. Linin Williams with ninety three. My number three overall player is Josh Allen ninety four and my top two guys are Andre Dillard with ninety five and Nick Bosa with a ninety six. All right. So I've got fourteen you've got one more than I do. David Montgomery, JJ are segue side to names, you do not see in the first round. So I give you props on that number fourteen is Christian Wilkins with a ninety at thirteen Cody Ford with a ninety never twelve is Noah fan the tied in with ninety one the edge player. Brian burns is number eleven with a ninety one number ten is Devon Bush the linebacker Michigan with ninety one. Minor nine is also chancy Gardner Johnson. The safety of Florida with a ninety two number eight is the other. I wha tight end TJ Hawkins with a ninety two at seven at all of our made it with a ninety two at six to cornerback. Byron Murphy with the ninety three at five Devon white with ninety. Three at number four. I've got tackled Jona Williams with a ninety four at number three got jaune Taylor with a ninety five and number two of got Quinton Williams with the ninety five and my number one overall prospect same as yours for the same number. It is the edge player Nick Bosa with a ninety six. So there we go. Those are the top guys. Give me your top five. So I've got Bosa Quinta Williams John Taylor, Jona Williams and Devon white for my top five Wichita five Nick Bosa, Nick Boza under a Diller. Josh Allen, Joan Williams and Quinn Williams. Okay. Are so you ready to get in this mock draft. I think we're about ready yet. Let's do it. All right. So this is going to be the chargers heavy mock draft. This is what I think the church are going to do at number twenty eight and so on for seven rounds, and we'll go ahead and get started. And this isn't what I would do. But I think what Tom let's go is going to do. So following. A twenty eight of already got it. And I am on the clock. So guys that are available. You've got drew lock available. You've got Jonathan Abrams safety at Mississippi State AG Brown, the wide receiver is available Jerry Tillery as they're the one guy that I know they're going to take is there, and it is the offensive tackle of Kansas state. Don't reisner so all the top four tackles have been taken. And I think the chargers and up going reisner. He's going to be the right tackle right away. You can kick inside to play guard or center, you know, he's got the accolades was the two thousand eighteen big twelve offense lineman of the year smart kid with durability. We talked about the last podcast. He's never missed a game. This to me is just so chargers. I think the team is hyper focused on tackling this year and impasse Schrafft's. They put a lot of value on offense of line hasn't quite worked out that well, but nonetheless, it's kind of the draft mentality. So it's all the same. I think the chargers go. Don't reisner in the first round to assure. They don't have to reach tackle later is just kind of that. You know, they did it with these fluker. They even did it with hunter Henry, you know, there was one one or two good tight ends in that class, and they reached up and grabbed Henry in the second round just so they don't have to worry about it later. And I think they do that here with reisner. He's got the versatility. This is a Lesko guy. I've got taken don't reisner at twenty eight. All right moving on to the second round. And let's talk about some of the people that are available in wide receivers Emmanuel halls available sham. Bunting popular corner is available want Thornhill. Darnell savage is available. Yanni just is available. Interesting. He's usually not there in the second round j Sturm burger if they were looking for a tight end, Joe Giles Harris is there. But I see the guy that I know they're going to take because I know I know what these are going to be even I've never been right. On this. In the second round. They're gonna take the defensive tackles Draymond Jones at Ohio State. Now. He's obviously smaller detectable. I think he's six three to eighty five. But that's kind of that Damian square profile little undersize, but Jones is definitely different player. Another versatile. Linemen lineup multiple spots. He can pass rush from the inside. This is just kind of that chargers type of pick where you get a probably more of a third round player. But because he's from Ohio State as a ton of production kind of outweighs at all the team gets their defense of tackle. It's a big need high character guy. So I think they end up going with dream on Jones in the second round. How are you feeling so far with reisner Jones? They sound like to Lesko picks. We talked at length about reisner on the last episode. I think it makes sense on some levels. I think it's a little bit of a region some levels. But you know, if you're dead set on getting a tackle. And you're choosing between him and Yanni just in the first round. Then you gotta take you gotta take reisner. I think you know, it as long as you understand that you might have to kick him inside. And you're comfortable with that. Then taking you know, a kind of a tween offense lineman who can play inside and outside gives him some versatility and some lettuces, and I think that makes sense and dream on Jones. I mean, he's that three tack that they've been rumored to have been telling people they're looking for, you know, they there was talk that they talked to what was his name Jared Ledbetter. Yup. From from Georgia and told him, you know, we're good at edge. Can you play the three tech Jones make sense? And he's a good pass rush. He's disruptive. He gets up field in a hurry. And I've seen him mock in the first round so getting him at the end of the second round. I think I'm actually a lot more comfortable with. I would not be happy with it. If it was the first round pick but getting him at sixty. I think a lot more comfortable with. I think I had a mid to late second rate on him. So I'd be I'd be not like over the moon excited about those picks. But I did with them. All right. So those are the two pick so far reisner Jones. They've got their tackling got their interior defensive linemen. And let's talk about who's available here. So Rennell ran is available. We were got are in interior defensive linemen. I don't think they go back to back here. They've got Kelvin Harmon JJ or Sega Whiteside is available. David Montgomery, your first round pick still available here in the third round. They've got Jamal Deen. There is Kaelin Saunders. Still available Tyree Jackson is there. But you know, what I think they go a little sideways here. Least a little bit against the grain. They're going to pick. The titan Dawson knocks at ole miss have a feeling the chargers jump a little bit early on tight end this year hundred Henry's coming up on a new contract soon hasn't played sixteen games in his career. When he's healthy. He is all the tied in one you need. But this is a guy that's more of a projection because he was so criminally under utilized at ole miss. We kind of talked about tight end podcast. He would be a perfect tied into right away. He's got a real shot at being a borderline tied in one. I think chargeable love him because Knox is such a good two nations. Blocker. And that's what kind of turn them about hunter Henry, you wouldn't have to take hunter Henry or dossier knocks off the field. They keep on all three downs. Even though this is a little off script here. I think they jump on DASA knocks. They get a talented pass catcher needs a little bit of refinement because we don't know exactly what he is. Because he didn't get a lot of chances. Ole miss because there's a lot of mouths to feed their and that offense of system but early on tied into you got to a really good chance of being tied in one vertical threat and a really nasty blocker. This is a charger player. They're taking Dawson knocks at old miss in the third round interesting. I like Knox lot. It feels a little early for him. I think he's more of a fourth round pick. But I could see it. I think he's a guy who could certainly play up to that third round level. And I think you're right. I think he's a guy who could stay on the field for a long time. And he's that tight end to they've been missing that can contribute on special teams too. So I think he makes a lot of sense for them. And that's Bod. And that does kind of feel like a pick that the two Lesko might make. And it seems like always third round they reach oh just a little bit there. But you know, after that, it was a lease max and Isaac wanna and I'm not sure they would have taken a shot. There was just you know, a player that you gotta grab he's by far the best tight end at that spot worth noting. No linebackers for the first three rounds. No linebackers. Nope. Not yet. We'll get there, Jamie. We'll get there. And I think you know, who I think they're gonna pick. Because I think you think the same guy let's go around around four and at four let's talk about some of the. Guys that are there. We've got miles boykin the wide receiver. We've got Rodney Anderson the running back, we got max Scharping out note. He went to pick before. Oh, it's still going. Okay. Well, now's the okay. That was the guy was definitely gonna consider their Scharping's gone. Okay. Then at linebacker just because you mentioned it David long as they're on Connie's their corners, KENDALL, Sheffield Hampshire vers. That's a first round name if overheard one and he's up there with rocky Cinna this class, probably the top two names. Okay. So I know who they're taking here in the fourth round. And it is a guy that the charges were at the pro day. They've been linked to this, man. It is the office of tackled Chuma Adoga at a USC. I think they take some tackle insurance in this draft there, he took reisner, but. You know, his stock rose at the senior bowl. He asked him experience both left and right tackle move spring. Nice for guy his size ready run blocker his pass balking needs some real real help. So I think the charges. Take a swing here on developmental project has some good movement. He's got ideal size. He's really gonna need some work. So this is a guy they're grooming for the future. They double dip in tackles. Because boy do they need off. It's of line help and they needed a double dip, and they do here and they take when early they took one of the first round the fourth. You got don't reisner Chuma Adoga. I gotta learn how to say his name because they'll draft him really linked to this guy that at the pro day seen his name bunch. Yeah. I think they were there for Dogo and the guy you're probably gonna take the fifth or sixth round here in a little bit. Taking you take him here. When he started talking about the US pro day, but you did a little end around on me. Yeah. It makes sense. Not a great tackle class. But they have been linked to him. And he's a guy who could at least give them some insurance if not develop into a right tackle. So make some sense on paper. Yeah. And we don't want to bury the lead and say who's going to become an up here soon. And I think that might be in the next two rounds, but adobe, and then that other player USC feels like you're Jenin Awo. Sue everybody kept talking about China Wilson, the second round we're going how they never leak anything. We never hear anything about picks in the future. And they kept linking Channa. The chargers kept linking Chennai. And then of course, it took them around. Exactly where everybody said. So there are some leak in that building. But let's go ahead and move onto round five. Let's talk about some of the guys that are there. All right. So the chargers got tight end. They don't need any more tackles. They've got to ready. They already went interior defense of linemen. But are on walks is still available as Ahah bugs is still available safety. It was definitely a need. This look at corner ham Cheever's is still there. Donna Lewis junior Jimmy Moreland. So I think they're going to go safety here. A looks like the linebacker were kind of hinting at still down there in the board. So I don't think they quite reach quite yet. So they're going to take a safety and the oh, yeah. Okay. I like this. All right. So the pick that they make around five safety another safety at a Miami, just like racial Jenkins a guy that kind of reminded me of him Chauvet, red wine. They rate it. They waited 'til around five to take their safety. They need a free safety in the worst way one of their top three needs. But again, let's go doesn't really value safeties. He wasteful fifth round. I think you know, they feel safe because a racial Jenkins. And maybe Jaylen Watkins, so they waited a little bit about themselves from insurance. So they take Sheldrick red wine in the fifth round another safety at a Miami played corner played safety, Scott, some real tackling issues. He could run and cover if I'm not mistaken. He ran in the four fours thing at a four four forty time at the combine this feels like a lot of the safety guys that Gus Bradley likes could serve as potential free free safety option also serve as a box safety and some cornerback. Definitely got some versatility. I say they take Sheldrick red wine here in round five. And let's go ahead and stop this run. Because I can't wait any longer. I've gotta take my guy. And let's just talk about who's available quarterbacks Ryan finley's their east and stick is they're running back isn't really an issue. So I'm not even look at running back wide receiver Gary Jennings, junior hunter Renfro talk about interior defense lime in Isaiah bug. So arm on watts gone corner. Jimmy Morlin is still there. But we're going to stop this slide right now, and we're gonna take the linebacker came. Marin Smith at a U S C. You know, Jamie knows it. This is a player cut from let's goes clock. He's a former captain at USC worked for the charters coaches even dot com wrote this big draft profile on him. He was a mainstay on the USC defense for four years produced every year was steady good instincts. Pretty good football IQ. But a limited athlete serve as that backup. Mike behind Denzel Perryman, and I feel really good about the team making this pick. I don't really like Cam very much, but I liked. Let's go making this pick. They're going to pick him. Yeah. His agai you were going to look for in the two. Let's go charter draft yet. And I wouldn't be surprised to take him earlier. You took him in the sixth. Right. Yeah. Yeah. I could see him. He feels like. What's the kid's name from Ohio State that washed out? Oh, Josh Perry. Feels like Joshua Perry pick where they take like two to three rounds too early just because they have to have him. So it wouldn't surprise me to see him go as early as the fourth round. And it wouldn't surprise me. If they see him as more than a backup. I think he's played some in the middle. He's played some on the edge. Keep dropped a lot of weight for his senior year this year. So that you could run around and be a little bit more athletic. He does make some plays. I they're definitely gonna take them. No doubt in my mind. And I doubt that I doubt they can control themselves contain themselves until the six round the take them. I think it's in the fourth or fifth round personally. But it's definitely gonna happen. Yeah. And you know, much like that Joshua Perry pick they got joy both in the for later got Joshua Perry. Now, they got a dope in the fourth. I think it was if I went back, and then grabbed another USC player camera Smith, so grab another teammate they're happy and they're in the locker room together. So we're going to wrap up this draft. I've got round seven all queued up here quarterback. Yeah. You're looking at eastern stick as your next best quarterback wide receiver run froze gone. So you got Anthony Ratliff Williams left tight ends thirty taking care of office tackles taken care of I'm gonna pass on guard here. Nick Linders available. I'm not taking them. No schrief Miller. Johnson Ledbetter, man. We mentioned earlier is there. Oh, okay. The guy that I'm gonna take here is actually. A corner. And it's the corner from Alabama Savion Smith another guy that I've kinda thought the chargers might take a chance on this is like last year they picked up Tony Brown from Alabama. They got Chris Davis. A few years back. They like their big school corners. They were all there were both undrafted free agents. But the kinda like to take shots at corners in big programs. So this is the guy that they pick much like picking up Tony Brown. Chris davis. Take a stab at a big program corner in Savion Smith, the five star recruit went to LSU had to go the Juku route got picked up by Alabama. He's got really good size offer. Some upside of the press corner, anticipation wasn't very good technical refinement wasn't very good. That's also a working progress, but a developmental corner in that group that could use some depth. So they take a chance on Sadie on Smith and that wraps up my draft. So let's go ahead and list off. We got here in round one. It is the offense tackle dlt reisner out of Kansas state in round two. They picked the defensive tackle dream on Jones at of Ohio State in round three. They just recent grabbed a tight end Dawson knocks at ole miss. They wanted their tied into with some upside at round four they grab their US to tackle Chuma Adoga. I still remember how to say his name since they're picking him in round five. They got the safety of Miami Sheldrick red wine in six they got the linebacker Cam Smith at USC round seven. They took a shot on the Alabama corner. Savion Smith that wraps up my Lesko draft, Jamie. It is your turn everybody. I'm Neil Patel editor and chief of the verge and this is the verge cast. So I've got mine I'll queued up I'm on the board at twenty eight and a couple of GARRETT'S nightmare scenarios themselves. No mine too. By the way, Daniel Jones is on the board at eighteen and Caleb. Gary's on the board. Should be. They both should be Jamie does. No, I'm no, I think in this in this particular case, this is a lot like the situation that you're in Garrett risers on the board. The the top two linebackers gone MAC Wilson is sitting there and they do seem to like their linebackers with big school big college big game experience. But I don't think they take a linebacker this early. There really isn't another position in my opinion. You've got this'll piss him fans off, but Jerry Tillery there and Jeffrey Simmons is there. I don't think they take either one of those guys even though they're very enticing. And either one of those guys would be eligible to come off the board and either one of our what we would do drafts. But this is not what we would do. This is what Tom Lesko would do. So like you. I'm going to go with Dalton reisner the offense tackle slash interior linemen from Kansas state. I just feel like there's too big of a drop off after him. And by the time, we get around to sixty you're looking at taking Caleb mcgarry juice guys like that. And I'm just not interested. So I'm gonna go ahead and get reisner and we'll see who's on. On the board when we're when we get on the clock at sixty here. Yeah. I mean that he just seems like the guy just more leaning towards rice. You're by the day, the more you do these mock drafts, the more you see that most of the office of tackles are gone top four at least with Ford Williams, Dillard and Taylor there always gone interior defensive linemen is skinny at that point so rice or just seems like the pic. So obviously, we agree there. He took reisner in one. Yep. I just think it makes too much sense. So we've addressed the FM tackle position charter still have pressing needs at safety linebacker defensive tackle. You could also argue that needed tight end than along the interior line. Still too early for a quarterback if they're looking that way guys that are on the board right now in the second round. We've got a Charlie Charles Amena who dream aunt Joan's, Renault, Ren. So MAC Wilson's off the board. There really isn't in my opinion linebacker worthy of being taken the second round here. So I'm not even thinking about at this point safety. You've got Darnall savage one Thornhill Deontay Thompson Amani Hooker all sitting there on in the second round in this particular case, I think we're looking at a defensive tackle. And I think it's somebody different from who Garrett took. They've been linked to this person quite a bit. They were at his pro day, reportedly they stay close to him evaluated carefully met with him afterwards. I think they take defensive tackle Renault Ren out of Arizona state. And I think they do that because they see him as a long term replacement for Brandon me bane. He he's primarily a one technique. I think he can play three technique if they ask him to he certainly Atlantic enough. He's a guy who moves bodies clogs lanes. But also makes plays on the interior. All you gotta do is watches Michigan state game from this year where he basically dominated the second and third quarters of that game. And you see what he's capable of. It's not a consistent thing for him. But I think they take him thinking they can make him consistent with some development. So I think so far we've got Dalton reisner and Rennell Ren in the first two rounds. How you feel about that? Well, let's seems early for me for Ren. I understand the player that's a round maybe. To we'll probably around early for him getting him in the second round is a stretch for me. I get the player I understand it. Because he's a guy would target and round three and four. But man, picking Brennan the second is a little rich. Yeah. I think it's a little early. I'd prefer him in the third or fourth round two. I'm not sure he'll be there in the third or fourth round. It seems like he's kind of moving upwards a little bit. So I feel like he's a guy that they just look at and they think they just need him. They need to grab them now before he comes off the board. So now, we're looking at positions. I think you gotta look at safety linebacker tight end possibly back offense tackle again. So guys that are on the board right now. If you're looking at offense tackle max Scharping is air Chuma Dogo there. Bobby Evans, if you're looking at tight end. Nobody were taking this early as their Cali wearing who I didn't even watch. Josh all over not that familiar with Eliza Mack. I did watch. I think it's a little early for him. You could maybe make an argument for cadence Smith, but still a little early Isaac now to still little early foster moros still little early. So I'm passing on tight end here. Even though I think they need it. I think Tom to probably thinks he can wait and get somebody a little bit later. I think this feels like a spot where they were probably looking for a linebacker. It's a desperate need. They've talked about it being a a an area of focus for them. And it hasn't really changed all that much aside from the addition of Thomas Davis Thomas Davis. So I think this is a spot where they'd take somebody that they think can maybe grow into the long-term two to three down Mike linebacker role in this guy. Just feels like he just feels like he makes sense for them because he's smart. He's a thumper. It just feels like a chargers picked to me. So the chargers take Jo Giles Harris in the third round to play middle linebacker. See I thought you were gonna say Cam Smith there. But then when you said, he's smart, he's thumper. I was like, oh, wait a minute. Who's that? No too early. So how you feeling about the first three rounds so far? Well, I don't love Jo Giles Harris there. Ronel Wren was a reach and reisner is just fine. So I'm not loving, the straps. So far, I'm understanding it. I think John Harris is a Mike at the next level can win at the line of scrimmage like his instincts can help out in the run game. He's pretty good zone. But you know, I think he lacks some speed. And I guess is about where a graded him out of low third round great on him. If I remember correctly, you know, a guy that we're lower on than most. But I guess where you slot them here. Because a lot of people were mocking them in the second round seems like a charger guy. I mean, he was really productive at Duke. So yeah, he makes sense for sure for two Lesko. All right. So we are on the board here in the fourth round still with needs at tight end offense attack. Michael interior offensive line safety. You could even make an argument for another interior defensive linemen. So looking at guys who were on the board here Chuma Adoga as off the board. We still got is Ahah prince on the board. Bobby Evans, Tyler Romer. Nobody really to exciting offense tackle at this point. Tight ends cadence. Smith is now to foster Moro, all they're all solid possibilities here in the fourth round all providing receiving options and guys who can block. On the interior defensive tackles, Dante vs. Russell terry. Beck ner. Chris Layton arm on watts feel like it's still a little bit too early for all these guys if the charges do double-dip safety, Mike bell, Mike Edwards, marville tell not a whole lot of real exciting options here in the fourth round. I feel like this is a good spot for a tight end. I think the chargers probably agree. So I think the chargers go with cadence Smith the tight end out of Stanford in the fourth round makes sense. That's definitely a guy I'm targeting around their little raw the blocking could use some work. But obviously a tied in early on has some tied in one upside for sure a really good traffic true vertical threat. I like Hayden Smith. He makes sense there that might be one of my favorite picks in terms of value. And. Verse talent there. So I'm actually good with that pick. All right. So let's take a look at see who's still hanging around here. Because right now, you've got don't rise her in the first Renault ran the defense tackle in to Joe Giles hair, salon background Duke at three and then you grabbed cadence Smith at a Stanford the tight end at four. So let's see here we have just kind of looking around here. We've got DeMarcus lodge the wide receiver at Mississippi stolen, the board. Nothing too exciting ofensive tackle at this point. Michael dog, bud defensive tackle really a lot of guys. It's too early for a lot of these guys more than likely the chargers probably feel like they've got their guy defensive tackle. And they're going to move on. We're in the fifth round here. There's not a whole lot left that's surefire contributors. So I think the chargers are going to go with the linebacker. We talked about I think they'd double dip it linebacker. I think this is where they get Cameron Smith. Wow. Wow. They're going to double dip. They haven't double dipped on offense attack or defense tackle, which are going to need to do in the draft. They doubled it on linebacker. I think so I think they get two guys. They're really high on guys that they think can be playmakers and really help the middle of the defense. I gotta tell you. I don't like it. I know your time to let's go, but yeah, I'm not trying to make you happy here. No, you're just being Tom to let's go, and you know, with Kaiser white re-signing, Denzel Perryman re-signing injury Phillips is gonna take over that linebacker safety role signing Thomas Davis having to tapes Brownsville around getting a linebacker. Sure. Joe Childs Harrison, the third make sense governed Cam Smith because you got a man crush on them not so much in the fifth. I'm not a fan of that one. And there's been some reaches and stuff, but in terms of value position. I don't understand it to be honest with you. That's just another extra by. I think you're just kind of looking at it from the standpoint of or the chargers are looking at it from the standpoint of. You're probably going to be looking towards moving on from both Denzel paramount and Thomas Davis after this year. So you're kind of naked in the middle of the field unless you're thinking you're going to move KYW's your white over to the Mike linebacker Phillips of one year deal tapes Brown one he'll Brown's almost up. So there's a lot of transition going on. So they need to kind of solidify the middle of the field. And I just feel like I think both Jo Giles Harris in Cam Smith. Make a lot of sense chargers picks. I just think those guys are going to really like they might like it. But I don't but who's asking much like I said, I'm not trying to make you happy. So let's see here. We're looking hopefully at a safety at some point. We're looking maybe for a developmental offensive tackle, maybe a wide receiver chargers. Definitely need help it wide receiver. Ooh, there's a guy that I think makes a lot of sense for them guy that I like, I know a guy that you like, and I think he makes sense for the chargers in terms of the mole that they look for and wide receivers were here in the sixth round. I think they take Anthony Johnson out of buffalo definitely targeting canes. Smith in the fourth. I'm definitely targeting Anthony Johnson and six I love those players in that position. So two very good picks, especially where they're at. I love both those and the rest, you hate rice ner is what it is. I'm fine with it ran I I like the player. So you got them maybe around early fine. I like them Joe Giles Harris, I'm not as high on. But when you get them in the third it's about where you should get them. Cadence myth is great in four. Anthony Johnson's great and six Cam Smith and the fifth still I'm not happy about. So this is a teen is still needs some safety help. They may not think they need safety help. So they may not be prioritizing too early. But there's some guys here that might be good fits for them on the board at safety. Not a whole lot exciting here. I think they go with saquon Thompson out of Rutgers. So that is the end of my picks and a Thom Tillis goes picks, I should say, and we wind up with thought reisner Renault Ren Jo Giles Harrison third round cadence myth in the fourth Cameron Smith in the fifth. Anthony Johnson in the sixth and saquon Hampton at of Rutgers the safety in the seventh. All right. Well, clear that board started all over. Let's have some fun. You do your draft. I will do mine. So while the resetting hit us up on Twitter guys, let us know which Lesko draft you like better. And then tell us what you think is more of a two Lesko draft, my drafter Jamie's draft, which one would you be the most happy with my draft mytalk oh draft or my Jamie draft. And then. Then after we're done with everything just tell us you like better because I'm curious. Let's see how this goes. All right. So I'm on the board at twenty eight. Oh, I like this. I like this a lot. Okay. So available players at the moment, we have Daniel Jones Christian Wilkins who Garrett bradberry hockey Butler Chauncey Gardner Johnson's there Nazir Adler is there reisner is there. Jerry Tillery is there. Let's just say that if Christian Wilkins is on the board at twenty eight the chargers better sprint to that phone and make that hit. So I know I am taking Christian Wilkins at twenty eight. And I'm just going to end my draft now because I win. Yeah. It's the perfect start. And it's the perfect fit. It is exactly what to let's go would do if he's there, and this is Jamie draft and people are always like, well if he's on the board they should run that card up to the podium. They don't do that. They're not in the room. They have a Representative there. But it's not like to Lesko sitting in the back, and then he walks up to del. That's not how that works. Get on the phone you call them. And then you you put the Pickin nobody's running anywhere. Damn at just just go ahead and ruin my my image. They're them sprinting to the podium. Oh, no. I mean, you know, run to the phone. Call right away as soon as he sees vailable. But you know, you can't sprint the car to Goodell. All right. So we have Christian Wilkins at twenty eight in the first round. We are now on the board at sixty the charters are on the board at sixty just going through some positions of need. We have Titus Howard and yada nica juiced of on the board here in the second round ca juiced, certainly make some sense at the. And the second round. I had a late. Second raid on him tight ends. Jay stern burgers there. My guy. Dax Raymond Dawson knocks interior defensive line dream on Jones is still on the board. No, Ren Kaelin Saunders. But they just went interior defensive lines. I don't think that's where they're looking. There is nothing but crap on the board at linebacker. So they're going to pass it linebacker, Sean bunting, Trayvon Molin, David long. Isaiah johnson. Joe one Williams all on the board corner at safety Deontay Thomson. Amani Hooker to Kwan Johnson marquees player. Yeah. I think I know what I'm gonna do here. So with the Thompson on the board. I had a mid second round grade on him. Some people have great as high as the first round he has some development to do. I think there are some, you know, instinctual issues with him most of which can probably probably be corrected with more playing time. And and some film some film study. But he just seems like the perfect athl-. Compliment to Derwin James safety. And it's a huge position of need for the chargers. This is where this is where I'm going with my second round pick at sixty. I take Alabama safety Deontay Thompson. And I'm just going to end my mock draft now. I don't even need to make the next five picks. I'm done. You did that after pick one. What if the next one's good too? You don't know that? Yeah. No thompsons. I love the target here in the second. I think there's since you've already done the first two rounds. I think there are. I think second round is your safety target. There's going to be guys like John Thompson, Darnall savage want Thornhill. There's gonna be a lot of good safeties there and though Cianci Gardner Johnson. Is you know, both of our safety ones to drop off between them. And then the next cluster of guys is in the big cliff like the rest of the guys like the offense of tackles or the defensive lineman. There are a bigger cliff especially on the offense tackles, which I don't mean to scare you here because you haven't gone one yet. But you know, once you pass on ca just in the second round here going to be in trouble here. So good luck in round three on offense tackles, and but the Thompson perfect pick. I love the complimented of him and Derwin. He's definitely guy I'm targeting around too. So I might be drafting a lot like part of telescopes draft and a part of yours so looking through positions of need here. Still not a lot of linebackers at I'm in a rush to take looking at -fensive tackle, I still have Titus Howard in Yod nica just on the board. You're kidding. At the bottom of three autumn of three you cheated. I admittedly only saw part of one game of Titus Howard. But I feel like there's a steel here in unique just in the at the bottom of three. So I'm taking Yanni just so I have addressed defensive tackle safety offense of tackle in the first three rounds. All with guys who were projected to be picked in the first two rounds. Yeah. Love for him to be groomed behind, you know, maybe eventual Russell Kun replacement will fight for that starter role at right tackle, you know, twenty eight is rich round to is about where I had him at a low second grade eighty one if I'm not mistaken sloughs about where I was comfortable taking him. When he folded the third. You've definitely gotta steal potential left tackle play, right? Tackle. I think you know. This is a great pick here too. So now, I'm kind of on the hunt for a couple of positions. I would be looking possibly a double dip it offense of tackle possibly to double dip defense tackle. And I'd also be looking at linebacker tight end. So just kind of looking at how things are shaping up looking at linebacker. I've got David long tailed on Coney Germain Pratt. All there. These are all guys that I had graded in the third or fourth round range. So they all make sense here. I've got a LIZA Mack. It's the fourth round. It's a little early for him. Cadence myth is there is now to foster Moro all guys that I like corner Corey Valentine, Mark Fields KENDALL Sheffield defensive tackle. Dale and MAC Kingsley. Kiki Dante vs. Russell chris. Layton arm on watts. Not really ready to double dip there yet to dove is still on the board here the offense attack Lada USC, so I'm kinda tempted here to go on linebacker offense. Tackle tight end. I really feel like I should go offense of tackle. But it's just not fun enough. I'm gonna go with Kate and Smith in the fourth round. I just really like him. Oh me too. I hope we don't have three mock drafts with Kate and Smith in the fourth round because I love them. They're just makes too much too much sense in the fourth round. Yeah. All right. I'm on the board in the fourth round possibly looking double dip it offense or at defensive tackle still need of a linebacker still possibly need a double dipping it offensive tackle. So those are the three positions. I'm really looking for the most value at but see here so linebacker Gary Johnson, Texas chase Hanson at a Utah Cameron Smith's on the board. And I'm not interested in Cameron Smith. So. So I'm going to pass on camera Smith but a pass on linebacker for now. So that kinda narrows it down for me. Let's take a look at tackle still kinda early frost tackles, you're in the fifth round. I know, but don't see anybody that I feel like I have to get. So there is a guy here that I really like he was one of my sleepers. He feels a position of need it might be a little bit early. But I feel like he's a guy who's going to outplay his draft position. So I'm taking arm on watts in the fifth round Hobo. Yeah. Man. So while you're there, I mean in round four Cain Smith is a guy. I'm looking at round five arm on walks is guy. I'm looking at round six Anthony Johnson's the guy I'm looking at. So you've you've hit them all those are good spots for all those guys like those rounds. So let's see what you do here in six then. All right. I'm on the board and the six let's take a look at wide receiver. There is Anthony Johnson offensive tackle. Nobody that I really recognize feel like I have to get linebacker. I'm torn I'm torn here between Anthony Johnson and just say to two. Fayezah at of a university of Texas San Antonio linebacker. Both guys I think offer a lot of value here. Both guys at positions of need. Both guys. I think kind of fit players they're kind of players that I think the charters would be looking for in these spots. I think I can wait onto a fair. So I'm going to go ahead and take Anthony Johnson here in the sixth. He was one of my wide receiver sleepers love the speed love the size. The hands are great. He's a guy who's just tough to cover. He's kind of a bully wide receiver, which I love I think he's a guy who really fits in well with the existing receiving core in hopefully, taking him expedites the exit of one Travis Benjamin. So that's taking cool. Maybe we should have done this together. Then. Maybe we can do that next year. Our last pick here Christian Wilkins, Deontay Thompson Yanni adjust cadence myth arm on watts. Anthony Johnson in round seven and just si- it to fair of university, Texas, San Antonio, the linebacker guy who just runs all over the field makes plays all over the place. All right. So that does it for his seven all go ahead and burn through mine. Real quick. I know we're running along here. So I'm gonna make it quick. 'cause we've kind of all talked about this stuff already. All right. So hope dude. We might have a competition for best picket number twenty eight didn't all over fall. No, Daniel Jones came Butler zero early Jerry Tila resolve there, but you know, who's still there. It's not Christian Wilkins its office of tackle, Cody Ford at Oklahoma nice size athleticism, power NFL, ready. Right tackle. I mean, I saw enough from him. I'm we talked about the tackle podcast, but I saw enough from him this loan year that he's just scratching the surface versatility play guard. He'll be very good as guard. This is the best player available. My office of tackle three behind Taylor and John Williams. Perfect pick perfect fit. Who would you rather take Christian Wilkins or Cody for Jamie? I mean, he can't lose with either there as I choose I would take bookings because I haven't graded higher on my board. And I think you too, but. Actually, wait. Now. I don't know. I don't know Wilkins's my last now, I've got four grade one point higher. But I'd still take Wilkins. I think really I think so I think so I think it'd be close it'd be a tough call. But I just think that they've been without a quality defensive tackle for so long that I just think it has to happen in focus is on the board. There's just no other option. Okay. But I do like that pick. They're both days very happy with that pick. I would like Cody Ford over Christian Wilkens. That's just me though. So then around to not quite looking to white receivers to tackle. I already got. So I'm not looking there either interior defensive line Charles Amena who Andrew mon- Jones or their Ronel, Ren Kaelin Saunders. All there. Of course. I wanna go safety here. Say I talked about earlier safety is dang, man. Okay. So how it was going to go want Thornhill here. But he's gone. The guys that are available Taylor rap in money. Hooker and deonte Thompson. I think Hooker and wrap are more strong safeties and free safeties. And I don't want to run into that problem again. And as much as I hate to do it you and I are going to have the same second round pick. But this is my draft. This is what I would do here. I would pick the Thompson we talked about. What a great pairing us would be. Yeah, I've seen people wanting to take Taylor rap in the first round for the charters. And I I don't get it. I think he's a good football player. But I just think he's too. He's too redundant. In terms of his skill set. He's a kind of a poor man's Derwin. James more of a nickel linebacker strong safety type not really fast enough athletic enough to play that deep safety role. I know I've seen some people say you just take the best player and stick him out there. But I just I don't think he suited to that. Particularly on the charter system where he's the only guy back there. Yeah. No. I think he's got the lack of top end system that you just don't want on the back end. And he's not very good silent sideline. You want him as closely as possible and. And when they played him a free safety is when he did not look good. And I think that's part of the why part of the reason why he's not a first round player to me when they played him at a free safety. He just dropped down to my grade. So I'm not taking Taylor rap because you know, you've got a much better player near the line of scrimmage, and then you've got guys like Adrian Phillips were roaming around. And you've got another hybrid KYW's. Your winds playing linebacker used to be a safety plan that spur position at West Virginia. I don't I don't think you need to take Taylor raptor. And I don't think it's a very good fit. Good player. Not a guy. I'm taking the first round. But in the second round he'd make sense there for another team. Just not with the chargers. So moving onto the third round. It's talk about some guys that I'm looking at here wide receiver. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Okay. All right. We'll go back to receiver in just a second tight end. Josh Oliver cadence Smith, I'm gonna wait their interior defensive line, tristen hill, Kaelin Saunders, Gerald Willis. Let's go back to receiver for one minute. Okay. This is this is my draft. Right. I can do throw curve ball. I think I'm gonna throw curveball here. I'm gonna take don't hang it. All right. I'm not gonna hang you here. Here's what's going to happen. I didn't think you'd be here. But I'm gonna entertaining. JJ are Sehgal Whiteside in the third round. Oh, I like that big numbers at Stanford is I think he needs to improve his route running but such a good red zone weapon. Big tall body can get seperation downfield creates yards after the catch. I think as a wide receiver three with some wide receiver to if not best-case low and wide receiver one capability, I think having Mike Williams JJ are Sigel Whiteside and Keenan Allen in the red zone. You're almost unstoppable. How do you? Stop a guy like our Whiteside. Mike Williams, you got hunter Henry Melville, Gordon. Awesome. Neck Laura out of the backfield. That's got Q now running underneath that's a nasty duo. I want no part of that. So you got your new wide receiver three here. J T R. Whiteside who fell to the end of the third round Travis who? Uncut by. And I think one thing we didn't mention about our Sega Whiteside that I think people overlook because there's a wide receiver is his one of the smartest and best blocking wide receivers. If not the best in the entire draft every time you see. Bryce love breaking a big run usually are white size downfield making the block for him. So very valuable as a blocker. Just a little added value there. All right. So let's talk about the next round. And I'm definitely going to have to look at interior defense of linemen. But tackles Ryan Bates to know green. I say your prince's there. I'm not looking at either of them Cameron Smith is there. I'm not really looking at here. I've already got my safety and interior defensive lineman. Well, this is kind of a decision I have to make so Kaelin Saunders is there. And so is my sleeper tristen hill to take my sleeper or Kaelin Kaelin Saunders is graded higher. So I'm gonna go with my board. I'm gonna take Kaelin Saunders. Big man with a math lettuce ISM. Good bend for the position uses Bruce shrink to win in the run game athleticism to win on passing downs. He's that big man you saw doing backflips you've seen it all over Twitter can play anywhere from zero to three tech, which I love definitely compete with Justin jobs for that. Three tech spot. Starting right away. Could eventually take over for Brandon me Bain at zero tech charges. Finally, get a good pass rusher threat from the inside. Caitlyn Saunders in the fourth. I usually I'm targeting the third. So for him to follow the fourth. I'm very happy about that. It's kind of like you're just in the third Saunders is mine in the fourth. So got my interior defensive linemen in Kaelin Saunders. I've already got a wide receiver. So I guess we're going to scrap the whole Anthony Johnson bit, which is good. And then we're going into the fifth round. No linebacker yet. Right. No linebacker yet. No tight end. You know, tight end. No linebacker. I kinda wanna punt linebacker. This draft. I really do. It's just isn't a good linebacker cloudy. Really isn't. Oh, good. God, man. Well, I got lucky again and Kane Smithfield. Emmy, so you know, this is your draft and not to let go draft. Right. I wanna Kate Smith. Oh, I thought you said Cameron Smith. Oh, no, no kidding. Smith tight end at a Saint. I I heard Cameron Smith. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Shade Smith there. We've already talked about him could be tied at one down the road a fan of his I like him getting allow round later too. So let's see where we fall here because I want to go offense of tackle again and probably interior defensive line. And I'm in round six good spot for them guy. You took a round earlier. I'm gonna take him here in the sixth arm on watts. I mean, this is the thing. I love about getting Ceylan Saunders. Arm on watts that they are versatile enough. They can play zero three that you can mix. A match with those guys and that's to versatile pieces on that defensive front, which I love love watch quick for step athletic for big thick frame disciplined rusher. Love that. He's pretty smart. Lander scrimmage to gets his hands on a lot of footballs. Good band. Another guy who's got some password traps in the interior. So you got Kaelin Saunders who can rush the quarterback. You've got armone watch can rush the quarterback. I'm a big fan of what I've done on the interior defensive line. And we're going into the last pick of the draft. And I'm either going linebacker off. It's tackle I've kind of I kind of went narrow on what what position group I was going to go and I haven't listed who's available. But I kinda wanted to burn through this group because we've kind of talked about a lot of them. Okay. So linebacker to Sean Davis TJ Edwards. I. I'm not gonna take him here. Just for the second doing something different. I'm going to punt linebacker in this draft. I am just going to say I've got another year with Phillips because you're white tapes Brown Thomas. Davis Denzel Perryman, maybe even to Davis Perriman who knows but for two thousand nineteen I'm leaving the linebacker core alone. Maybe I can grab a diamond in the rough. I'm going to focus on it in the undrafted free agents. And for my last pick to be honest with you, the only guy, I know and the only guy that I've actually watched when I was watching off its tackles and that was Tyree Saint Louis the tackle out of Miami. A big body. He's pretty agile pretty athletic, but has such issues. Perfect frame guy. You're probably going to have to break down and start over again. But you really need to double dip. He played left tackle played, right? Tackle I love the size. I love the athletes ISM. But. There are some real issues in pass pro pretty good as run blocker. So need refined the technique when you get them into camp. But at least a potential swing tackle here for two thousand nineteen hope you can develop them into something because you've got a great moldable body. So that does it for my mock draft. Let's go over it. Again. I've got Cody Ford in the first round Deontay Thompson in the second. JJ are a Whiteside in the third Kaelin Saunders in the fourth Cain Smith in the fifth. Armone watts in the sixth and Tyree Saint Louis tackle in the seventh round. That does. I guys let us know who you like better who's Thom Tillis, go better who's personal drafters better? That's it for us. We're done drafts. Coming up. We'll talk to you when the draft happens and we'll review these guys I am accuracy on Twitter. Jamie underscore around. We will see next time. "Welcome to the podcast. I'm your host, Jenny Taft. This podcast is a condensed version of today's episode of undisputed handpicked with the best segments and discussions skip, Shannon. Let's go. Welcome down this unit. We are live from Los Angeles. Jerry Taft, you Dr I want to gradulate shin short only bought himself diet. Great. Ginny finally won a case of diet. Do back for me. I think I'm now thirty three up. And you know, what I want to regulate Shannon Sharpe today because he had the guts to go way out on the limb and pick a to seed over a seventy Ginny many times to seeds of beaten seven seeds in history of the NBA ninety three percent of the time to seeds beaten seven seats at he is celebrating because he was the one who picked the two of the seven I actually had the courage to stick with my team the Spurs who hung in there. And it wanted did get to be a two point game with fifty seconds left. So at least they three well AM cells by Jorma Nick to earn God knife. No way about the Cup, reckless Chambal tab. Yeah. What? Now, you got a chance today because you got what is equivalent of Popeye's spinach. I look not really you'll like it. It's a real much much. But everything you wears a little, okay? My Cup to okay, I'm sorry. You know, what I'm gonna sit. You know, what I never drink do out of the can it just it just doesn't do. Okay. Oh, you just slipped all over your house? How we okay good. How you doing? Where you proud of yourself for picking to see that way to go. Can we get this show, or did you know that that it's five times and seventy two attempts that the two sieges seven beating the tooth? Anything about I would say, I'm just just having do. I want to congratulate the Denver Nuggets Yokich was by far the best player on the floor and Jamal Murray. I don't care for him. But he made one big shot. Thank you next question ache. You onto today's Joe is Cam new on the hot. Yes. The Browns be guaranteeing trip to the Super Bowl. That's interesting. We are going to start with some NBA controversy. Let's get right to the closing seconds of the rockets warriors yesterday James harden and had a chance to tie it with a three but missed his Draymond green. Contested the shot. Then Chris Paul went after one of the officials ojected rockets were livid that no foul was called on the hardest shot saying he wasn't able to land safely, which was a theme of the entire game. The warriors got win and afterwards. And had a message for the refs. Take a listen. Shoes, man. Quarter game how supposed to be called. And that's it. And I'll live with the results. But when you especially we all know, what happened, you know, a few years back with that can change entire series. Just call it a game. How a supposed to be called? And we'll there with the results is plans symbol, James harden. After the game said he just wants a fair chance that the wrestling to call the game the way so most be called. He just wants a fair chance the rest need to call the game the way it's supposed to be called. He's specifically talking about closing out on three pointers feeling like he got fouled several times. In those situations. I've been filed by James on James three pointer before. Going with them. Okay. She did the non calls cost. Huston the game. No. It was the did. It costs them. I think it was a contributing factor. I think the biggest calls for them not to win this ballgame. Skip is that they had to starters score grand total of four points. And that was PJ took her in Clint cappella now you remember the other day skill clink, cappella, San I wanted the warriors. Now, Chris Paul was sitting up there with him. And he's looking are you crazy? He said that see all this. I don't know who started this in order to be the man you need to beat the man. Well, if I can beat the less of the man and still accomplish goal. I'm good with that skill. I really am. Look is really really hard to officiate. James harden, Chris Paul skip. Because when they shoot the three ball, they flail so much how much the blading how much is it. Someone is getting contact. Now. There are a couple of times that James harden shot the three point shot in Klay Thompson bodied him. Now. We saw this in NCAA tournament Virginia guys shot up three skip in the guy body them. They called it. They didn't call these yesterday. My problem with NBA official. NFL officials is that you know, the they let calls like this go in the postseason. No don't do that. If it's a file in the regular season. It's a foul in the postseason James hard in the first half. He got filed on numerous occasions on three point shots. Chris Paul got filed by Kevin Durant. He made it. But Kevin Durant out of it should've many four point playing. So skip. If I had if I would say percentage of this. I would say eighty five percent of. These calls these non Kohl's contributed, but even with that they still had an opportunity right there in the ball game. Kevin Durant goals on Kevin Durant has been spectacular and steal. James harden had an opportunity to the ball game with three point shot these files, and I don't want. I don't want these last two minute report. I don't want the NBA NBA the NBA to come back and tell me those should have been called files. Officials know you're in that moment, you sitting there looking at the guy you're looking at clay, not give James a hard landing space. You looking at him body him up on the shot on the way down. So you need to make those calls, but I believe Clint cappella and PJ Tucker scoring four points between the two of those 'cause Capella was minus seventeen seventeen. That's not good. So to your clink cappella point, they said last week just a week ago. He had not one but two viruses. I've never heard of anybody having to viruses at once. But that's what they say. Said and whatever the reason he was completely out of it. He couldn't catch it. He could old rebounds. He was lost yesterday. He's been a dominating post player all year long on the pick and roll. With James harden? He was lost yesterday in it it contributed to losing the game. But now the bottom line if the refs had called this game the way they ref James harden all season long Houston wins easily because might dantonio estimated. They were the non calls cost him twenty free throws. That's what he said ever and twenty I'll go eighteen because I saw six non calls that I would have given to James harden five times into CB three one time, and that time sculptor he made he made it should have been. So that's you could argue that. But if you if you don't take those away, it's like eighteen more whatever it was a four point game. And remember we're talking about James harden, and Chris Paul or extraordinarily effective. feB they're savvy, but they're also really good free throw shooters both of them. So let's say they got eighteen more free throws would they make sixteen of them. They probably would. So it's a four point game. So let's get to the last one which was the most debatable. And it was the most crucial and Joe Borja of the NBA the head of replaying referees said that that was in fact called correctly that dream on. He said moves sideways into James harden space, and that James harden to quote him Jack knifed with his feet throwing his feet up for trying to draw the foul. But I gotta say even though dream on was going sideways he leapt right into his landing space. I'm sorry. That is a flat out foul anytime anyplace in the regular season that would have gotten called. So James harden deserve to shoot three free throws to tie the game with four seconds left. Now could have made all three I don't know. Do you trust James? That spot to make all three maybe maybe not. I don't know. He just dissolved love him give machine given that opera. So clearly the game plan going in was to rough up James harden to get physical with him to knock him off his spots to body him. And it seemed like the new strategy was turned sideways into as you leap in turn your back to him. That's what clay Andy in drain on their leaping in but they're turning in mid air to face the basket, hoping not to hand Fowley, but to get away with body foul. Right. Right. And I thought they repeatedly got away with body foul do too. And I also think they did jar him. They did rough him up psychologically because James wasn't great yesterday nine at twenty eight and four of sixteen from three again, a bunch of them should have been called. But I thought they literally knocked him out of his comfort zone. And the reason this was such a big deal was this was an enormous wasted oppor-. Tutti for the Houston Rockets. You're never going to get that team more vulnerable because the clippers beat them twice in their building. My right. And as we know six times in that building they lost games by twenty plus points this year, this is when they're vulnerable because they had to play Friday night in LA and come right back and play early Sunday afternoon in oracle. And what happened in this game? It seemed like clay and Steph were pretty quiet in this game because they shot a grand total of five for fifteen from three. So they didn't the crowd with their three point shooting right in under Igwe dolla had to play thirty five minutes yesterday at age thirty five it's almost thirty five minutes. And that's a lot to ask of him because bogut barely played. You see what they just went small? They went death lineup the whole day, my right, grit, and they got away with it because everybody had to be a little bit gassed, which is why the Houston Rockets had two extra days to prepare. To recover and they flew out early to the bay area. So they could have a acclimated to the time change and to practice one. Big good time at oracle. So it's on a silver platter for them to pull off the referees said, no. And I'm here to tell you. I think the referee's not only cost them this game. They just well might have cost them this series because the degree of difficulty will only go up in game two because gold state it'd be a little more locked into how they're going to play. And I think Houston will be a little bit off kilter coming into game to even though they didn't get to the foul calls, and you, and I think we agree those were files, and they should have been called. Because James harden gets officiated like this in the regular season. He was filed ninety five times attempted three point shots that sixty one Lear the next closest yeah. So it's not like James hard was doing something in the play offs that he didn't do in the regular season. He kicks his legs into. Regular season, and you call it. Now you get into the playoffs. All of a sudden, you swallow, your whistle. I think the rockets blew a golden opportunity because as you mentioned clay and combined for thirty one points Gorn offset them by himself by having twenty seven. He did if you get anything for PJ. Now, I won't give PJ Tucker. He has a tough assignment here's the Garcia and put that same put monster. He has to try to keep him at bay that takes a lot of energy out of you give I can't I can't give killing Capello pass. Because he said, okay. You knew you were sick. You get up there and talk big we won't Golden State because we felt we had them last year. Yeah. We're the rockets won't you to play better than what you played on Sunday. You got four points and six rebounds long cut, it won't cut it. And when they win Small's, actually when you're playing get smaller people. Yeah. And at the end of the ball game, they reinserted name and people are asking why reinsert Nate just the time before this dream. I get to offense rebounds. See when they take a cappella out there are really really small team. And you have Draymond who the very good rebounder. And you have. Seven putting Kevin the red. You could also rebound the ball. So you try to offset that by putting in day in that he gives one on one with Steph curry, I was surprised it still took took that last shot considering he hadn't shot the ball particular will in the game early on you said staff style, I gotta give him props. Because that's the first big shot. I've ever seen him make in a post game postseason game where it had real magnitude. And he made it it got cancelled by what happened after that. Because again, James should add three free throws to tie it. But I give you that. If if I'm the rockets, I don't change a thing. Because skip if you if you notice what's happening. I don't know how many people notice it. I'm gonna let Kevin into rank it. Here's the causing the process of him. Getting is he's going to get his rut anyway. Right. But it takes clay step out of the shooting rhythm. If you notice when he goes off, they struggle because what do they do we feed the hot hand? And he's normally he's normally always hot. Skill. Yeah. So point he took twenty five shots and they took a combined twenty five shots. So stephan. I'm good with this. I'm good with lead Kevin to read. Kevin look, Kevin Iran's going get thirty. We try to minimize and so he doesn't get fifty on. But he's going to get somewhere in the thirty to thirty eight points game you understand that. But in the process of doing that that means clay instead for not finding a rhythm, and they can't kill us you, but you gotta take an opportunity that was a golden opportunity that game with their for the tape. That was my only problems getting and it makes me so upset because we talk about this in football season will complain time. They'll fishy at the game differently. They let them play a little bit more. If this a file regardless of win. It happens is they file first quarter second quarter third quarter fourth regular season or playoffs NBA finals. I don't care. Those are files they were committing to give James harden, and they should have been called. So the great irony. This. And what sticks deepest in my craw. Is what precipitated this new rule called the landing spot rule by which you left you have to let the shooter come down cleanly. You've got a cheap shot. It was two years back. Western Conference finals oracle arena. My team was had the Spurs twenty three points in the third quarter. They would've won that game. But Zaza cheap shot happened with this size, thirty two shoe or whatever it was like clown shoes. And he slid underneath that guy. Who's now? Number two. Did you see that Seok? Douglas get we'll do that now. Well, we'll talk about them. Point is that was what triggered this rule? Golden State benefited both ways they got away with that one and instituted new rule. And then they got away six times with this yesterday with that should have been called way to go. And that sent Chris Paul third completely over the edge at the end of the game. And he did bump that Josh TV in the the official bumped it. But we've seen him bump a lot of officials and because he's the head of the players union. I'm pretty sure they're not going to suspend three for the next game. Unless you think so 'cause I don't know it. No, he he's such a hot head spin the man that you already in the mid seventeen foul. Yup. That is true that that would be really bad look for the league. But again Christmas so respected by players that it would just be the outcry. The backlash would be too severe. But did he bumped the referee sort of on permeate did did he did he hurt the referee or or knock, you know? He didn't do that. And they'll. In those two foul shots that foul. They they call double take they call one three and they call one on Tony. Get a game in this game points are going to be at a premium you can ill afford to give up to cheapies. I'm with you. So I gotta give Chris Ball this because they looked when Steph hit that huge shot. It looked like they were dead in the water because that Golden State up five and then. They let James hard just have a layup. They just blew the coverage. You gotta lap. So that cuts to three and then Chris Paul stole the ball from Kevin Durant. I know Kevin had a monster game. But here's another thing that you had them on the ropes with they had twenty turnovers yesterday. Yes, you should be able to win that game. When Golden State turns it over twenty time. That's why they were in the game in the first half rant as much of a seven foot monsters is he had six turnovers and look at their starters. They had eighteen turnovers. Among just the five starters. But six they're just keep what excuse me. He's averaging six over the game. That's what allowed Houston to get back into ballgame. When they were down eleven points to tied up at the have because the war the bear sloppy with the basketball and skip. If you notice this, this is this what this the IMO Bill race out to a big lead in the mill get careless. They'll start being Globetrotters. There tried things that they shouldn't. And instead of burying the team Bill allow team to creep back in it. And they allow. The rockets to creep back into the games even in the third they raised out. And then they turned the ball over in the rockets right back in ballgame. Yep. And see it's so hard not to file James on the three point shot skip because it's not like they're swinging the ball, and he's getting wide open threes all but about twenty five of this three point shots been contested. So you trying to contest the shot. He does a great job of not only stepping back. But stepping to the side to get that shot off. They got you got to call. The you got is a must because this is the way he's been officiated all your loan. Yeah. He's doing the same thing. It's like James harden did something differently. Well, he didn't do this in the regular season. This is the way he plays dribble dribble dribble. Study Pat between the legs. I'm Dr no comeback. Okay. And guys normally hit him on his wrist or they body contacting. They did that yesterday. And he got none of the calls. This is unacceptable. It is. And it cost them the game in a cost. Daryl more the GM and the rockets the biggest game of his career. I'm sure he had targeted game. One is the one they had to needed to win to win the series and finally breakthrough against Golden State. They had according to the athlete presented the NBA with all kinds of second and third level data about how often Golden State gets favorable calls, so he planted seeds, maybe he planted the wrong seeds. Maybe the referees had been lectured so much about don't don't give Golden State breaks that they thought maybe psych psychology or squeeze say. Well, let's look the other way those seeds are still planning. Yeah. Maybe they take root maybe the growing gain too. I don't I'm not counting about all. The only thing that go state deal with whole serve at home. Okay. The rockets have to find one way they're going to have to find a way to win one game on the road in order to win in whole servant home. But they're gonna have to find a way game to win the game two windy tomorrow. Okay. You almost have to win game to if you're going to dethrone the champs. You just gotta go home one to one. It's hard to hold serve when when they get to come in with two free shots on your home court. Yes. Hard number four out of five. Remember they won the one game that they won at Houston. Right. And that was without K D. So I think they feel pretty good at Houston. So it would be a long hard climb to try to go. Hold serve and games three and four at home. And then go back to oracle. I don't like your chances with that. Only one on one guy can do that who you know win. Will you should you know, you lose you lose three games you just one wheel from being eliminated and find a way to bring that you're talking about. Honestly, who is that? Right now, all even that guy out of sight outta mind. All do this nearly three and one you're talking about it. I mean the guy who just finished his sixteenth season. The guy who's nearing the end our talking about over there in China really about maybe bingo. Poor what he's about. Maybe shoot he got over in China notion. He is one of those but give ya. You just was wrong. The officials know that and I just I don't get. I don't want to minute report. I don't want any repeal board Yati said it. So the two minute report is going to say, they miss them calls on clay. But they did not miss the call on during on. That's what it will say. And that's wrong where we'll go. Oh, you missed the calls. What are you? What are you? And that's the thing is not like one official is way down there. There's always to officials right at the top. So they're looking and I'm looking at the guy. He's looking at the guy. Okay. Looking at James harden feet. Make sure you behind the line. He's got arm up. That's the three point shot. What else? What else looking for? We're talking about it. All sports though, calls being missed in playoffs as just different which now wasn't just one. It was right. When play wouldn't players do things in the play offs bad repeatedly, it cost him the jobs. Okay. Officials Chabane you need to be on the clock house at the same. How many how many calls do you get to miss Gill and still be able to do this over and over again? Doc and assure you, I'm not going to be able to drop continues places compla- time, just keep dropping pants. Alway he missed that. When he'll get it. Next time jobs. All right. While the Browns made some huge moves this offseason, including bringing Odell Beckham junior to Cleveland on Friday. They added to their collection of LSU Tigers by drafting cornerback, greedy Williams, well, greedy, didn't hold his tongue. When he thought of his new team. He said, quote, I know one thing that the Browns are going to the Super Bowl this year. That's a fact, Shannon, g alike him seeing this. You gotta ride name. He'd be agreed. I go to those get drafted. Yeah. He slid down the draft board everybody saying, well, he doesn't wanna tackle. And John Dorsey, his guys ING cover get the guy on the ground. He can do that. He's a rookie. Skip has no ideal. No earthly idea what it takes the hard work that goes into getting to in winning the Super Bowl. I missed it college football playoff been going on for five year. Alabama's one to clemson's one to Ohio stays one one. Which degree agree to go to? Did you go to school? So he couldn't even go to the college football player. But he go to just come into the we go into Super Bowl, really. Got you know, me talking is the last thing I'm gonna criticize someone 'cause I was one of the talkers. But it wouldn't do it went off season. It was doing the season we play you don't win. I don't think he talked after you got taken in the Senate. No, I don't think you could you're gonna you're going to carry. Though, he would have made a name for myself started going to Pro Bowl. It'd be an all pro I wasn't talking in the off season. You why do guys feel the need to talk in the season? When so many there, so many things that need to take place to make sure you get to the season healthy, and then you start playing with skip you're seeing their schedule starting out that makes cream puck is not easy in the we go to Suba. I. Guess what happened when it when it doesn't work out? They don't go to the Super Bowl. Nobody's gonna remember that he said that. He also said, oh, my God, me and Denzel. I thought he was talking about Washington. The other cornerback. We are going to tear up the league said, greedy Williams. We're going to tear up the league he also said possibly we can be the two Pro Bowl corners in the league playing for the same team. Again, he is played exactly zero snag in the National Football League. And by the way, greedy Williams was the seventh quarterback picked in this draft the seventh not the first even though some of the draft analysts had him ranked number one or Borst number two in this raft. But just for the record. There was a quarterback who has taken one spot ahead of greedy. And he was taken by Bill Belichick who traded up eleven spots to take him. Guess where that cornerback was from Mr. sharp brand of Vanderbilt University. The football factory of the SEC. Yes. It is the football factory. Joe one Williams was taken one slot ahead of greedy Williams. The right way. This is the right one is Joe on. And one went to Vanderbilt in one played for LSU, which is obviously the football factory with Alabama. Oh, yes, he's e-. So why did Bill Bill check take Joon Williams? I know all about Joon because I've been following. But he's a big strong stud cornerback at six feet four inches two hundred and eleven pounds. And why was he taken there by Bill check? Because this is the first time I've ever heard Bill Bill check telegraph a draft pick because in his pre draft media session that he did a couple of weeks ago. He said that there are so many big receivers in this draft. He said they're all six four to twenty five that you need to have big corners to play big receivers because it's the new way as the NFL world. Right. Right. So he went up above greedy. And he left greedy on the board. He could add greedy himself to take Joe Juan Williams the right Williams from Vanderbilt because he went and worked him out and saw six four to eleven. He did not run a four six five. But you know, what I watched a bunch of Vanderbilt games. He can lockdown big receiver because you know, what skip coach Belichick about us above all other. Yeah, he wants you to be smart be able to play multiple positions. Yeah. But you better be able to tackle. Okay. And he can tackle he's very physical. So what what would happen if by chance? Bill Belichick had taken a shot on greedy and greedy. It made. These remarks about the patriots. He might cut day might have seriously about guy. So John Dorsey is known for risk-taking in Kansas City. Let's see John Dorsey drafted tyreek hill he drafted Kareem hunt. Oh, interesting. And now look what he keeps doing in Cleveland. He is high risk high reward. Baker Mayfield had some high risk to him. You had a one big off field incident. Drunken incident in Fayetteville. He had lots of on field incidents where he's not exactly acting like franchise quarterback in my right? Yeah. There's some risk involved so far. So good is Dell not a big risk on football character. Yes. It's high risk. How about Sheldon Richardson? I've told you I never liked his football character. He's got him on the roster. So he's just going for broke. He wants talent over footfall character bell check completely the opposite. Totally cogs in the system. I will teach them how to play my system my way, and they will listen to me because I have researched their background and their extremely coach -able wrong. Right. You know, chase winna vich you intervene after the northwestern. Comeback win right on the field. He's a character. But he's a good characters. And again, I think multiple position it he can edge rusher so win which to me can be the next Nick vich for bilges. He's got he's got some gronk flair to him. But he's good hearted guy. And I think he's highly coach -able with a high motor. So there's a steal for me for Bill chip. I think Joe will be a steel in the second round, even though nobody had him rated that high, but greedy Williams fits like a glove in Cleveland, right? He's perfect for who they are. And what they want swagger. They want attitude. They want the Browns to walk on the field. Like they own the field. They like John Dorsey is comfortable with all of his Cleveland Browns, telling you you're going to you're going to get beaten and then going out and doing this remind you of the in the in the eighties mid eighty eighties early nineties the hurricanes. My it's it's like the youth north. Yes, it is. It is he wants the u it's unbelievable. What he's doing temp on paper, and all the coaches a lot of people have said own paper the Cleveland Browns looking like looks like the real deal, but you don't play football game on paper at some point times. You gotta push all this together. You go practice meet in that you go out there. Now, I'm I'm gonna be I'm gonna play a little closer to engine. I I had. I have them winning the north, but I will play real close attention, greedy. And we'll see how much eagle eating well. At least that's true. At least he has two big brothers from LSU there to sort of teach him the ropes. Right. He's got Dell and he's got Jarvis Landry. So at least there's some LSU connection. So maybe they can sort of keep him a little bit between the lines even though Dell has problem sort of teaching himself how to act. Do this. Let it go. Br second round draft pick just be happy just going in keep your mom clothes. Keep your head down and work your tail and then when you look up to seasonable you like man, we are. Yeah. I'm gonna give the Browns this. They are now clearly the center of the NFL universe. They're the team. Everybody wants to cover right about talk about watch. They are now must watch TV and unfortunately, hard walks. Knox was one year too early one year because this this would have been off the charts hard. And does that who do hard nuts? Get we could change the rules to Cowboys. Do it. No, Jerry, go try to steal to show. Yeah. You already know it. It cannot be about the to go by read that they haven't picked yet that somebody was can't remember who. Yeah. I don't think what do you want it to be? I say the brand should get back. Go seriously, would I be glued to every episode of? You wanna know what I want to rerun? You know, what I think John Dorsey would welcome back to. I think he loved it. Do you think he was bothered by the comments? No, that's that's that's just that's what he wanted. I don't mind audit. They attention your loved the attention. So why did greedy fall because he doesn't tackle? Well, once upon a time Dion Sanders wouldn't tackle. But John Dorsey said about greedy, he just gets people on the ground when he asked to well, I'll buy that. But can you back up Super Bowl talk on the forehead of the it really happen? Tackle his guy. Couldn't get the catch the ball. So he didn't have to tackle. He was chasing other people's me. That is going to assure you feel very comfortable in saying going on record, greedy. William does not going to be on time. He might talk like the. Yeah. Yeah. Well, the time to really do a whole lot of. No, really, you're right. You're right. You know, what he might say one or two things because I covered him for the year in Dallas. When he spoke you listened, and it would be it would be pretty arrogant. But he just back it up. It would really we didn't really talk about his game. If you talked about his fashion game or jewelry game or car game. But on the field. He didn't do a whole lot of what you knew what you've been doing talk. You'd better not. Hi expectations. I'll be watching the Browns, but I still favor the Steelers slightly, and we're going to talk about the Steelers make us. Finally Baker bake. Okay. I'm oh. O'shea? Who are on board? Also over the weekend. The Panthers did something they have done since two thousand eleven and that's draft a quarterback Carolina selected will Greer from West Virginia in the third round. But GM Mari. Hernia was quick to say Cam Newton is still the team's franchise quarterback and added quote, this has nothing to do with Cam. The former league MVP is coming off his second shoulder surgery in less than two years skip. Yes says this pick have anything to do with camp. This pick has everything to do. And shannon. Sharpe. Any I was double shocked by this pig because obviously for weeks on the show I've been on record will Greer is the second best quarterback in the strength to collar Murray. He's better than Daniel Jones. He's better than twain Haskins. He's better than drew lock. We're gonna talk about drew here later in the show. I think he's a little better than Sam darnold or Josh Rosen or Josh Allen from last year. That's how much I think of I did see on draft day appro football focus article with the headline. The advanced numbers suggest will Greer may be the steel of the twenty nineteen NFL draft. Okay. So I believe in this. I thought somebody was going to get a steal in round two. I was shocked that he fell to the bottom of around three. And then my double shock fall off the chair Shaq. Was he got picked by Cam Newton steam what? Yes. Martin Ernie the GM of the Carolina Panthers did not take will Greer to be a career backup. I'm sorry. He just did not. The kid is just too good. He's got the it's factor. He plays. Biggest in big games. He's got a huge arm. His his greatest strength is deep ball. Throwing. He just has a panache about him. Just a swagger to him that you just love. He's fun to watch. And he's not afraid of the moments of the stages, and in this case, he's from Charlotte. He was watching the draft like ten blocks away from the stadium. So it's made for for one more year of Cam to see how does maybe two if plays better. But I gotta tell you Cam is going to be thirty on may eleventh. He is taken an awful lot of punishment. He's been beat up banged up. And he finally needed shoulder surgery back in January, and they still can't throw yet. So they're not even sure about him going forward into game one this year. So obviously Cam, and I was all four Cam going number one when he went number one. And he backed that up by winning the MVP. In two thousand fifteen when fifteen one got to the Super Bowl. Then what's happened twenty sixteen seventeen eighteen his QBR's have been twenty-seventh in the league eighteenth in the league and eighteenth in the league he wants the year after the Super Bowl went six and eight starter. They did go eleven and five twenty seventeen loss New Orleans and the wildcard six eight last year. So he hasn't lived up the last three years to 'em the key. So is it possible that they just sat back and said, we could have will Greer the bottom of the third round. We have a chance to go forward with him. He might need a year he might need to they might need him next year. They just might that right out of the box. They might need him the stage would not be too much the pressure. Expectation wouldn't be too much for will Greer to start for them right out of the box next year if need be so again, I love the pick. I don't love it for Cam. He what did he do? He liked the was it a Facebook Instagram post. Yeah. The announcement. He liked it. So I I. He could just be why? Look, I agree with everything you just said. And when you think, and we agree is going to go somewhere, you think will Greer's going somewhere that doesn't have a proven commodity at the quarterback position. I don't care what anybody says general manager the lie when you take a player at a certain position. So let me ask you a question if the Dallas Cowboys draft the left tackle in the third round. What do they tell entire Smith? We draft up at that position that player and you draft they got at his position in the early rounds. They're telling you something whether or not you choose to listen to them is something entirely different kept look out in Baltimore. I went to the Pro Bowl. We went to the playoffs. They draft the top. He taught heat in the first round. They would try to tell me scale. And I listened I understood what they would tell him and he was a high profile pic. Yes. Well known on. Was it hard knocks? Yes. He became a big part s. Yes. So. Very interesting when you look at camps contract, they can get out of this contract this year without a lot of money Cam. Okay. He plays this. He's going to have one year left on his contract. You take a guy like that? I'll give you another very similar situation. Jimmy garoppolo. Yeah. They tell Jimmy G that didn't take Jimmy G like, oh they had to make a decision. Well, coach check was gonna wake one decision. Mr. craft may coach check making another decision is that what is gonna come down to somebody's going to have to make decisions get you took this young man, nor what he could possibly bring to the table knowing his potential, and knowing what you have skill when I look at camps numbers as far as QBR, even when he won the MVP only famous night QBR. You're never going to be a QBR guy. He throws too many balls off his back foot. He throws the ball down the field. A lot about this stat over the last three years he tied for the NFL lead in interceptions. That's not. That's not good three over three years. And we we both believe this your early own camp shoulder was hurt. And it was and they finally got to the doubt. They you know, you need to set it out. This is not a good sign if I'm Kim. I'm looking at them like, okay. So this doesn't do it. Okay. So now players let this be a wakeup call to all players NFL football teams will always do within the best interest of the team. So when it come time to get that paycheck. Don't you be cutting a hometown discount? Call your own the claw. Yep. Good point. It also could be a pick to rely the fire under Cam where where he's not exactly sure his job is a long-term job. He will compete at the highest level. So will we see the best outta Cam Newton next year? If these ri- if he's health, right? And I don't know once you have shoulder surgeries. It can never quite get right? If you're throwing arm and the surgery was January so as bad time at this point to heal us. So you know, what finally dawned on me about picking quarterbacks? What they're always too many to go around because they're only hint teams in the first round that needed a quarterback, right? Because a lot of teams have a quarterback or they're gonna try to go forward and make do with the quarterback. Correct. So they're just not going to take a first round kind of talent quarterback. Maybe even a second round. So some quarterbacks are gonna fall because everybody's got a different opinion of Daniel Jones Gettleman may be the only one who loves it. But he when he may be so so down down they start falling. And once they start falling. That's why Joe Montana's going to go in the third round. Or Tom Brady is going to go in the six round. Because too many teams don't need one on every other position. You're always trying to get better at right -sition. Right. Yes. And another thing skip is that when I look at it. Okay. If we if we take we agree early. And he has to sit. How does that help us this year? How do the help us next year is the normal? You won't guy this going to be able to jump on the field right now and help us right now. So maybe they are down the road somehow Cam like hold on. I'm about to be thirty. I'm not even in my prime. I hadn't even rich. That is true. If Tom Brady is going to play it or to do they'll Cam, I hadn't originally the differences Cam has taken a lot of punishment. Yes. As you know, it's cumulative it, just like it's wear and tear on your body. He's got a huge body. But he's taken huge amount of luck a boxer. Yeah. You might not get a whole bunch of hidden. You might not be in those those look this. But if you fight fifteen twenty years will you talk about golden gloves amateur all Olympics. If you do that in the now professional career is cumulative thing, so although he might not he don't doesn't run as much as he wants Dino. But he ran enough in college. He ran enough his first couple of years. He did who. That to build up. So is his injury risk getting higher and higher in his thirties. Probably so yes because what's Tom Brady? Do the best of all he avoids any kind of context or injury possibility. God do up in Green Bay really throw the ball away. Even though somewhat to criticize hit threw the ball away. Gina he broke his record. He threw the ball. We shattered Philip rivers record. He shattered it, but he has had injuries. Lots of injury. We use has won the doll on the lot. He didn't get injured from running the football. It was a freak is it in the pocket. Really? So he can't avoid the big collision in the woods. Where? Interesting. If Tom Brady Tom Brady only gets twenty times drew Brees got that few. No name line that you can't name one you go don't worry about it much of six rounders and free agents. Okay. Name the ten wealthiest men in the world. But they think you probably could. But I'm say, you know, I bet, you know, the top ten own of in the NFL, you know, those guys, and they ain't got all ten together and got his money as Basil's. Yeah. When I think owners, I can only think of one that we're Harry, oh, Jerry is the owner a win all they just won the divisional. Give you don't hang flags for the vision. You hang flies. What also you got to NFC east open? Jerry were. Yeah. Really, hang them. Hang them high. Out. Would you would you go to a Gillette stadium? You look up there. All you see is. Oh. One in three oh four and then fourteen sake teed. They got Tom Brady we have Brady esque. That's all we have is Brady it's gonna take us a little while to break through big butter, y'all got parking difference. They got the real, well, I'll take I'll take the other though. Down five probably. We're moving on Mike Tomlin be worried about his job right now. Don't forget to thank the real pros this mother's day. Where would you be without your mom? So don't wait order like a pro and get this amazing Rosedale to thank all the moms in your life. I'm honestly, go make my. Back to the NFL we go. The Steelers are heading into next season without Levy on bell and in Tonio Brown. And that seems to be just fine with Mike Tomlin Tomlin was asked by ESPN Saturday about his offseason comment that he wanted volunteers and not hostages and said, quote, there's been a cleansing if you will I meant what I said, I didn't say it to be cliche, Shannon. Do agree. Tomlin do. But if you don't win ballgames, what do some more Clinton's ING, but it won't be with play. As might say something very interesting after that Facebook live post in twenty seventeen twenty sixteen seventeen he said, it was foolish of him to do that it was selfish of him to do that. It was also inconsiderate of him to do that. This is what he's saying. Antonio Brown's Facebook live post we will punish him. We won't punish us. So in other words, you just told Tonio Brown Antonio, go, do whatever you wanna do. 'cause it's going to be okay. We saw their similar situation skill with coach kopplin. Yeah. Coach conflict known disciplinarians scrape the vowed that's true. If you five minutes if you're not five minutes early, you're late the reporter asking coach confident when you saw OB. Dale they're behaving in the manner in which you did. Why would you take him out the game? He's that we try to win the game. So in other words, you told that his behavior is okay. If you can help me win, Mike Tomlin got to bear some responsibility skill. I have a dog named Tonka. He get on the couch, and he leaves here. I don't get upset. How am I going to get upset at talk of leaving heroin account? When are loud it to happen. How you going to get upset at AB? Will you allowed it? Why didn't you pick a hypoallergenic dog? Okay. Okay. Did our although. I want to Rio dog Maltese tab with your they don't shit. No, no. I got I got a little, but I want to big on Tonka mayor. Yeah. I think Mike Tomlin is like he just won't to everybody wants to be absorbed. See for me. I don't really have a problem with anything lady on dead. You could acclaim lady I years ago. Skip doing that for jazzy. You coulda cleave. Okay. You didn't clear in that first year because you wanted to see if he can do it against Hilton. He did it you could clear them the second time and not not franchise them. Again, get what really could've done to then Tonio when he did the Facebook live post, you could not gave him the long-term beam. So you could clan. This a lot sooner than what you did. But for me at this point in time. I don't really know. 'cause you know, there's a great chance AB lady on both will respond because they say see we had left well enough alone. And then coach Tomlin bring us back into the fray. So I got I got the retort his absent. Just let it go. Okay. You guys. I wish those guys the best of luck was great while they were here there heck of a ball player. But we weren't able to get to our autumn it goal. But we wish those guys nothing. Nothing nothing, but the best, but you go about cleansing, I'll tell you what have that same regular hair last year? He'll be another cleansing and anytime, I don't know beyond say cleanse that limiting Cayenne pepper. Like, nah, nah. It will be a real cleanse narrow linzie. So before I answer genie's question. I gotta say one more time. Among NFL coaches might t is the best interview by far what he is a word sniff. Hang on his everywhere, I need volunteers not hostage. Yes, we are going to have a cleansing what coach would say we're going to have a cleansing would say that. Nobody would say that it's quotable, and it's accurate like third level accurate because I believe they are going to or they have cleaned house clear. The decks cleared the air of all things AB and levian not that they weren't talented players and not that he isn't the ultimate players coach because he is to a fault. He let them go away too far bolted them, but he may be on the hot seat from above. He may be on the clock Italy. He may have been told we need to see a whole lot more next year. So there's a lot of addition by subtraction. Obviously, I love the Devon Bush pick that they tried it up ten spots in the first round, which they they just don't do that. And they took a young, man. Ginny knows him. Well, who will change the culture on defense? He will bring back a little bit of steel. Curtain attitude then defense, and I think they just in the third round. They took that Justin lane out of Michigan state and Todd mcshay love that pick and projects him as a starter. So it's very possible. Bill have with Steven Nelson. They'll have to new starters at cornerback Devin Bush in the middle. Remember last year they tied for the NFL lead in sacks already. So that's that's pretty good. So all of a sudden you're going to lift up that defense would just a new. New swagger to it. Like, it's not even swagger. It's just attitude a harder nose to it. We are the Steelers. I think you're gonna see that new mentality and on offense. I still say. They got weapons they got juju. They got James Washington. They took last year. I think he will emerge ally. Roger they got big been. They signed Dante Moncrieff they got Vance McDonald. And. Very good. Very good. James Connor Jalen sames who ran wild on the patriots. And then in the fourth round, they took Benny Snell out of Kentucky. He was first team. All SEC two straight years. He was MVP of the Citrus Bowl for what it's worth. But he is five eleven to twenty four. He is a sledge hammer. He is a short yardage. Bowling ball. That's what he is. So you got three who can all do different thing. Right. You have an all purpose. And I mean. I mean, let me think gee, you got three guys that all do something different. When you had one guy that did all that. I think you latte up. I think three will legal one three all wanna play. They wanna play hard. He's he goes down also say that the in Tony run day. What he did? He's gotta grow from this. He works extremely hard. He extremely talented. But things get minimized. You'll minimized it up things. Get minimized you minimize it by allowing him. Sometimes skip. I know it is. I know it is likely I don't, but you got to send a message. You said you said to Antonio Brown. Antonio you're so talented kit. That's an unforgivable. There's a reason why they do not let the media in who pays the bills. But networks the FOX's in the CBS the ESPN the NBC they don't allow them in for fifteen minutes afterwards. There's a reason why skilled things get said. It's an emotional time in there that that's supposed to be Fakri. Okay. And he takes it live. So speaking Antonio Brown. I believe next year. He will be the unsung MVP of the Steelers. He has taken so many parting shots at them that I think he has lit fires all around the Steelers locker room under all kinds of players. I think been is going to come back with purpose. This time Ben is not going to be able to rest on any laurels. He had a very good year last year, but he has been called out by Antonio Brown. And I told you he's my early. Pick for indie p because he's still writing. I think he's still in the middle of his prime at thirty seven. I'm being Rosberg care about Antonio Brown. Calling me out the root is called him up over the pig. Fifty million dollar check. That's who called him out. So I heard about Antonio Brown. They worry about none of that though. The Rooney's back me, the Rooney said, your I got they're gone. Okay. There's a whole lot of talk coming out of Cleveland, and it's going to resonate in the Steeler locker room because they still consider themselves the kingpin of this. Right. Yep. They just do. That's how they were built. That's how they were taught. And I think they are quietly simmering, and they can't wait for their two games against Cleveland. Next shaking being who owes shaking bake which one is that Obama, maybe his down OJ Jarve shaking. Really? Okay. You put them fees them. So you mean, the guy that that you said shouldn't be the first overall pick out here. Ancient history. Ancient history. It happen. It happens. You know what I'm saying? I mean, sometimes it might not be the first met one is I. But he heels now, so he happy you can't get caught on what you wouldn't know this. House. House kind of an intimate details. Oh, we're talking about my personal life on national television. Sealer scott. I like sex gentry along do fifth round pick. But he was the the first artifact for har- by transition tight end. He got injured against say. But he's he you're on your is like you're not so sure because he cost me twice. He cost me at Notre Dame the drop his goal line. And he dropped a pass near the end of the first half at Ohio State back of the end zone. Got the hands. A hope is your something about these heat. Michigan tidy player, and he's like six huge. I didn't have sat down with him. He's signal will get which means what not a fresh you. What uprise? Story about his journey. Oh, they'll have they don't leave high. It'll leave you guys gave me a hard time about that. The reason we don't sit down with freshmen is because often they don't want to allow the freshman and tons of the media because they're freshmen they have to work up to them. So you level when last quick thought about shake and Baker? I love Baker Mayfield said he should be picked first overall. And he backed me up last year. And I know he has to grow the chip on his shoulder. But you can't take shots at people who are picking mock drafts or draft picks the people who he said didn't play and they don't know anything about how he Roseman didn't even play high school sports, and he built the Philadelphia Eagles into a Super Bowl champ. Right. How he Roseman are Cebu for didn't even play college basketball. And look what he did. So it doesn't Kwait. You can't do that. You can't take that shot. Let's look if you've got if you've got drafted or you get an opportunity to NFL clearly has excess but everybody got drafted not gonna make minimum fell roster. So then what those same guy that Amman drop them. I guess they were right on occasion, everybody that got drafted in the first round is not gonna pan out. So I guess those guys in the mount draft. I didn't worry about. Okay. You don't play this not my job to prove you. Right. The prove you wrong prove me, right? Because I believe I can guys get. So caught up in what someone says about you believe it ca- for me to way, I've always believed looked at this skill in order for me to take personally what you say. I gotta value opinion about on about your opinion. What you say clearly got care of these guys care more about the opinion of others. Then they lead on us get so it really bothered them that you'd be. We shouldn't read the media. You should read social media. I mean, all these guys they shouldn't be paying attention to that anyways. Then the first thing they say, oh, nobody gave us a chance. Nobody relieved. Does. Nobody's talking about desk. We don't do you know, we're not covering them. We do what other teams now. Nobody believe where were you when we were struggling where would you when nothing was going away? Damn bra. You wanted. Talking about Baker. We are talking about the goose stove. Right here still really breakfast champions. I'll know about all that. But it's relaxing. Bought yourself when out of the can actually act this is this yokip. Really? Yeah. They were the euro for. I don't think you're allowed in there. Because what what I did not. My refrigerator got rated. Do you have to pay it off your debt? You do that you got along. A whole case how how many times have you paid off your debt twice? You got FOX to pay it off. You took it out of my stash. This is just bad news. You have a two liter too deep. Going. Right. On believable. This guy will stop at nothing around here and the Celtics one game one yesterday, but is this series already over crisper start answers that question. The Celtics apprise a lot of people yesterday by rolling past the bucks and game one in Milwaukee Janas had twenty two points, but he made just seven of his twenty one shots and was swarmed by Boston defense wrote the game afterwards. He said, quote if they are going to play like this the whole series. I have to be able to make the right pass and trust my teammates to knock down shot. So we're joined by one MBA analyst, Chris Bruce Sar Bris, you have been high on the bucks have a season. We haven't forgotten. So how much trouble is Milwaukee? And Willis somebody who picked him in six in this series. They're more trouble than I expected. I'll tell you that look all season long well for three quarters of the season. As Boston was struggling. I still was like look Milwaukee. Toronto Boston are all on the same level. Either of them could win the east and then toward the end of the season. Like the last month when Boston didn't turn it around still had their problems. I wrote him off. I said they can't beat Milwaukee or Toronto. Now, Boston has apparently swit- flip the switch. And this is the team that most people expected to see throughout the season. And I think they're capable of beating Milwaukee to Rancho Houston, I'm not sure yet about Golden State. But I think they're right there with those that saying they will beat those teams, but they're capable. I'm still with Milwaukee. I. Still feel good about him. But this is gut check time for Jaanus Adecco and Mike booting host. Both of yon is probably going to be the VP. He was my vote and this game yesterday Connor reminded me in a different way, obviously of game two with Kevin Durant and Patrick Beverley how Beverly did this incredible job gardening. And and it looked like he had really found out an answer to stop Kevin Durant now. Kevin Durant answered in a big way. He obviously since then he's been off the charts. Let's see if yon this can do that. Now fairness to him. He didn't get any help. Not from his other starters rook Lopez aired Bledsoe sterling Brown. They were like three for seventeen combined didn't produce any points Middleton didn't have his usual type of game. With only sixteen boys the bench gave him something. But he's gonna need more from his other guys boot knows as well. He was out coached. When when in boot knows is probably gonna be coaching the coaches voted him coach ear, he he again got my vote, but brass Steve is out coached him yesterday. When the opponent comes into your building and shoots fifty four percent. And you are the best defense in the league. They made some adjustments. You just stood Pat and didn't. And now it's time for boot knows and make the adjustments. You remember few years ago when Atlanta one sixty and then the calf swept and we gave moon hosmer. And I think rightly a pass because he didn't have stars. Obviously, the cast had LeBron kyri and all that he will get a pass this time. You've got the star Indian. I think the talent is closed. Maybe Boston a slight edge. Maybe. But the talent is close on is gut. Check time for those guys and obviously game to as a must win. I agree. You hate to say they're in trouble. They go down to they're in big trouble to probably get swept skip, John. And this is the reason why when. Look at Jaanus. He has to take another step because if he couldn't get to the rim. You see what happened? They forwarded him off say you're not getting to the real in when he got to the rim. Al Horford say them challenging everything if you put me on a poster you put me on a poster, but I'm not giving you any dunks without being challenged. And all of a sudden now you looking at him he's seven to twenty one. And like you say if you're gonna have to trust. Well, I how am I gonna trust brook Lopez's sterling Brown? Eric bledsoe. They three or seventeen with twelve points. I can't trust that I needed Middleton to give me a little more. Because the Celtics got great contribution. They got a Jason Tatum didn't play particular. Well, Al Horford was magnificent yesterday. Carry was carry Jalen Brown. Gordon? Hayward stepped up terro year, the guys that the Celtics were counting on they showed up, and they showed out especially Al Horford Horford on the defensive Inskip. He's this. He's this second best player. He's the second most important player because the pick and pop he can pick and roll. Role. He says very good strength screens. And he the berry berry good defend us. As is is very good defenders fantastic. That's what teams have been doing. They've been putting their big Albion daring him to shoot from outside where they put a Rudy go bear. He goes about Rudy Gobert fit. They put Joel Embiid on. He up fake. Joel Embiid goes by them and dumb. The nine taking the bait. Go ahead, and you want to shoot them three atom 'cause I don't believe you still curry. I don't believe you could make enough to make me come hug up on you. And you go buy me the got the work cut out better. Not lose this next one. Chris they lose this. When somebody's gonna be in trouble, and John John is you might wanna rethink that. 'cause you lose his next game. You'll have plenty of time to feel LeBron James now, you won't be busy Space Jam to is back on the table is not do Hollywood. Clearly, he don't win playoff games either. So if you don't win game. Shall see? You lose gave to give Bayless. Bayless? Lebron y'all be joining you. So I take away from after the game was suddenly kyri Irving is happy. Happy throw a monkey rich off. I know lands. Happy with his teammates and his teammates are probably like grudgingly happy with him because he's really playing and he had a career high Levin's, right? Way to go in. My takeaway was I've told you from the start. I just need to see Janas do it at the highest level complete in this is not the highest, but it's pretty high. These are home games after you swept team, you should've swept. But but these are home games against a legitimate contender. And you came up small yesterday in the double block level when he did not. But that was shocked level blocked by Horford. But they were they were both bad ideas from on you can't just shoot it right in his face because his face, and he ate that. When if we can see it, and then he gets coming later. That's another one. Do. Horford six four six ten yomise doesn't have tremendous move because he hadn't had to it that high. So the Celtics blocked eleven shots yesterday. Jason Tatum, Marcus smart and Al Horford each block three shots. That's a lot of block and going on. Yes. In the house of blocks. Or Jaanus usually just terrorizes the visiting team and again Janas had by far the worst, plus minus on the floor. He was a minus twenty four and he didn't get much help. But but again, they're all waiting for him to go. And then they feed off him. They feeding off him all year. Do they miss Malcolm Brogdon? Yes, they do because he is a hell perimeter defender. Just a tough guy is he gonna make it back to series. I say shooting. I don't know sounds if whether he's going to be able to play and they're going to need him. Because once Boston lost, Marcus, smart, it somehow clarified the rotation all sudden it all fell into place the way it wasn't before. Listen, Terry, Rosiere comes off the bench, just lighten it up. He had nine rebounds yesterday that just every time he comes in. I'm like he can play and we saw he could play last year. And somehow he and Kyrie of kind of made peace with their minutes there the threat factor both ways. So all of a sudden like you said. Switch got flipped and I would expect Milwaukee to win game too. But they have to win game the game two of the most win win on your home. Course, you know, what? When I listen to carry the thing that I love about love about calorie. What I'm starting to see growth because he knows he said it can get much out anytime whatever I won't get anywhere. I want if I want to get to the rim, and I can get there. If I wanna pull up in the mid range, I can get there. I wanna shoot the three I can get there is all about not alienating. So he has to find the fine line. Do I go take over? And then these guys don't have a rhythm. Yeah. It was like, okay. I got going early. Okay. Now. Let me get my guys rhythm. They need me. Again. Let me get going again. Okay. Now, let me find him a rhythm because eleven six career him eleven six what I see in kyri is I've been watching this all year. He he say he really is following in. Lebron James's foot. Taps like during the regular season. There was drama victory aided by hill. And then come postseason flip a switch. Everything's good. And now they're rolling. He really seems to be following LeBron's foots that he does. And now the two besties kyri K D are both very happy all of a sudden. Right. And they're both dominating at the same time. I don't know if that speaks well for them to stay or listen, if they both go somewhere together, they're going to take this legal. Kyri? I hope just for as a fan. I would love to see K D And Kyrie go to New York, but Cairo. All right to the league. It'd be great. And it was spread out the talent. But kyri is in a phenomenal situation. Phenomenal. I mean, you've got a great organization a great supporting cast, great coach, you know. He's a superstar. And they probably have been affidavits heavy stays like, it's it's it'd be a lot for him to leave. Katie. I just think Golden State I think this might be their last run just because of the mental mentally taxing keep going to the finals, but we'll see ways. Core pool is not a bus ways. Core pool is not a taxi ways. Core pool is not the metro in DC writers ways. Core pool is not a slug line. What is ways carpool and new app lets neighbors co workers and fellow commuters ride together to work and home fast. Drivers say Hello to that express lane and get reimbursed for gas riders getting affordable commute in help. Save the planet and carpoolers get to know their. Neighbors and co workers a little bit better and ways carpool is smart. Not only does it match you with people who are going your way it connects you with people who you'd actually want to ride with so you can commute smarter with no headaches people. All the time ways carpool functions with the same high quality standards and efficiency down though, the ways corporal app today to catch a ride or give a ride to work her home ride together with ways carpool, isn't that wild though that we're talking about one game and the whole regular season was kind of a disaster for the Celtics yet. Now, they figured it out. Right. And he said they would. Well, this is why Milwaukee WI picked Toronto to beat them in the conference finals, they get there. But because of the lack of experience, none of these guys yon is none of them have have this type of experience. So let's see how a new dance. Ronald you. That number whose. They miss him down south. I know the first of all they would not have been a game seven. I wouldn't have been seen. Who who knows that? He would even play. No. All twenty gate. It took him two years to get healthy. Just recently. He said I'm able to help yet. He's still twenty eight toward the mother sixty that he played. Well, I'm here to tell hard. The bucks are done. Full Paul Pierce. Oh, yeah. They're just gets weap-. They're not they won't get swept I expect. When we but they're not gonna win three or four. So you so you get them with five. I just think the Celtics. It's just some mindset. It's just where the Celtics got another case do they don't lose him fighting the buck stop here. I got a case it a losing five. What Tatum struggled? So they can even look at that say we didn't even get a good game out of Tatum. I'll take Boston right now. For a case straight up for case, you do it. Oh, they got a one game lead. You. You go. Hey. No walking take Ronald retina case. Oh, wow. That's going way out do what like Philly right Ellen be done. Don't do out paying twelve minutes night. He came on remembering I know. For fact, he should not even be playing. Joel Embiid should not be playing right now. So they got no shot without him. No. And this is what Horford remember Horford did a great job on MB last year in Gaza. Great defense. He is smart little wow. Fame came to talk about really really fast. He's just saying phase number one. No. No, no, no. I asked you know, t mobile got nothing new. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was just clarifying. Awry, I was new completely off at band way out of out of Monning going nowhere. That is true. He's going nowhere. Thanks for listening to the undisputed podcast. I'm Johnny Taft.
