"Safer land has hires you. Who's the year too wide receiver. That has a big year after doing almost nothing as a rookie like like dante johnson. Basically liked dj. And michael gallup year for that and courtland sutton is it pitting pitman. I think judy is the easy answer. Yeah oh yeah rugs do. I mean if you're on just go with nothing. But if there outdoor jalen reagor and their rake shot likely to be the number one wide receiver. And it's he had like three separate injuries in the first five or six weeks of the season including training camp. That just really made it hard for him to abrogate going. I've been studying serianni over the weekend. And i talked to a couple of people about any and apparently first while he's a former receiver won three division three national championships at mount union and apparently everywhere. He's gone. He has improved the passing game for wide receivers. You'll read about it on. Cbs sports dot com zach. Paschal told me that he's the he's the reason why he's like. He had a good year last year. It was nick suryadi and just getting ask. The answer are screw. No paschal wasn't what the best year of his career. He's talked about that. No listen. I don't think i don't think he's about to have a bunch of pascal's as you're headed for five was a breakout for him for him would be. The point is is that i think receivers are going to have a a nice role in philadelphia because of syria again. Be worth didn't have anybody great last year. Who was healthy. All right so well they did have dallas goddard and jamie you have him listed on your breakout lists here and he in three games. A jalen reagor average right around forty yards per game did not score a touchdown. He was on fire. her yet. Jalen hurts he was on fire the three games before that with carson wentz sixty six to seventy seven yards in all three games and whatever. The production wasn't as good with with hurts. Those were hurts. His first starts so anyway dallas what. What is his upside. He could be a top five tight end if not better. I mean this is the type of situation that we look for a terrible receiving corps with a chance of a tight end leading the way and being the best guy on the team. And i think that's pretty clear with alsgaard show you in. Tandem was akard before when he was a top ten tight in what he showed you at the start of the season last year when he was healthy and wentz was actually playing. Well i think jalen hurts gonna realize that dallas goedert is best option in the passing game so god has got a chance to be really special to see anybody disagree with that. I'm not totally convinced. Alex got it is Like there was like some dallas to better than zach ertz talk last offseason. I'm not sure he's that kind of talent. I don't think he's really Showed that he's been relatively inefficient receiver over the course of his career. But look if the targets are there if he gets a hundred and twenty targets. He's going to be a top five tight end.

"Here on our early breakouts edition of fantasy football today jamie. I'm looking at your list that you gave me. And it's got tee higgins cd lamb and brandon aiyuk three to wide receivers. What can they break out to. Can they be top. twelve wide. Receivers think higgins lamb. I mean not that. I took the low hanging fruit but i took the low hanging fruit. I mean you saw the the sample sizes of what these guys were when they were at their best last year. Two of which when they had their quarterbacks in terms of d higgins with borough in cd lamb with dak prescott in you know you just see what the could be over sixteen games. Hopefully those guys stay healthy with their quarterbacks and you could be talking about must start wide receivers and when he was he was a superstar. You know so. All three of these guys are the chance to special now. You gotta work in deebo samuel being healthy because he missed so much time and george kittle. Miss that stretch of game. So kenny still do that with those guys around. I'm gonna say. Yes if the quarterback situation is at least jimmy garoppolo and hopefully maybe an upgrade But the upside for all three of these guys going into their second year. Not all three are going to materialize. But i think the the sample of what you saw can make you very encouraged about what they could be as their careers. Continue to progress. So higgins lamb. I you did you say which one is the most upside. I think you know higgins probably just given the opportunity to be the lead guy there you still have to worry about lamb with cooper with the other guys there but t higgins could easily be the number one receiver from cincinnati. And so if he does take that next step of borough comes back at one hundred percent they add another offensive. Linemen obviously run the ball. Bit better with. Joe mixing opened up in the passing game. I mean you could see the cincinnati offense upset could be as we talked about joe burrow. You know what was he. Top six seven in terms of passing yards per game. When he was healthy and higgins was putting up a a big portion that was with. Aj green on the field for whatever that's worth whether green was producing or not producing. He was still there taking targets away. And so is the third guy who's going to replace. Aj green going to be better than they did green. I don't think so right away. Maybe eventually depending on how they address that..

"I think swift is the only one. I really count on to be a legitimate passing game help the way the lions used him last season and the skill set he showed. I think he's probably the best bet among this group to have sixty five to seventy targets. I think it's an open question for everyone else So he might actually end up being number one among this group once. I you know tweak things but i like all of them well enough i think acres is the one that i'm least likely to draft this year. He you know the the six games where he was really the every down back playing. Sixty five to seventy five percent of the snaps. He rushed for five hundred and sixty one yards which is awesome but only had fourteen targets in those five era. Those six games one hundred forty seven receiving yards. I'm just. I'm not sure. What the receiving game role is going to be. That hasn't really been there for the rams since todd gurley new quarterback there was running backs all the time in fact that the andre swift has a new quarterback. That hasn't who's running backs in two years. I just don't think that matters a lot more within the context of the offense and the quarterback themselves. There are certain quarterbacks who don't throw the ball to the running max. But that's mostly mobile quarterback deshaun watson who are more willing to scramble than just dump off so acres. The carries were a huge carry. Tom numbers twenty eight in the first playoff game. One hundred thirty two overall in those six games when that fifteen to sixteen per game rather than twenty to twenty five. I'm just not sure how high the ceiling is. If that receiving role doesn't materialize. Jamie wanted to give us your rankings. Of those four. Chris went miles sanders swift nixon acres acres slipped sanders acres swift acres. I well acres swift sanders. Mixson okay and then data. They're all my top fifteen. Okay give me a quick ranking. Then jamie expand on acres number one acres swift mixing sanders to interesting very jamie europe first acres number one. I just think they're game flow is going to be a lot in his favor. This is going to be team. That's gonna have a chance to win a lot of games. I think his role in the passing game will increase slightly. I don't think it's going to be two point where he's a dynamic pass catcher but i think a full offseasons gonna matter for him tremendously. I do think the quarterback change will help him. I also think that mcveigh's gonna realize what his skill set is expand that Based on what he did in college you know he was a pretty good pass. Catcher for state. I think that will carry over the. Nfl's wall as he's used in more some obvious passing down situations. I don't think they're fully trusted him until the end of the season to be a little bit more pass blocker so just being on the field in those situations with malcolm. Brown gone a veteran that they trusted to be in those spots He's not going to be part of the roster anymore. So i think acres can be a a thirty five to forty catch guy and what will do running the ball. I think that will put him in the top ten range. So that's why. I think he's a break canada's well everybody's got swift second that's interesting debut of sanders. Last go acre swift mix and sanders. And where is he by the way just in your overall running back rankings. He's nineteenth..

"Million We going to see Joe Mixon again? We don't know what this point But the question remains is winning next year attainable. I don't think it is with Zach Taylor. That's my opinion. It's not the organization's opinion. That's not a lot of people that talk on this show or other shows. Opinion. That's my opinion. 4 23 and one Don't see him as the guy. And if they lose this weekend Larry calling in from Florence. What's going on? Yeah. How you doing? Yeah. I just want to make a comment that Andy's Yes, I agree with what you in the last caller said. They trim blame nobody but themselves. The organization because I told my friends a lesson for goes down and about 13 14. You gonna come in to take his place and Andy Dalton or friendly or this other guy? We're here. The Andy Dalton, wouldn't you? Yes, I think it would have probably come down to financials that the frustrating part for me. Zach Taylor was asked about that exact thing and said they went through every scenario. Whether it was Andy Dalton or not. The scenario that ended up existing where Ryan Finley was. The guy should not have been a scenario, and that's that's kind of what I go back to how to love if it was available financially to have Andy Dalton because look at if Joe borrowed goes down against Washington and Andy Dalton comes in. You still feel good about winning these last three games? That's what I was trying to tell my friends. I said that Uh, But I would rather have him and as a nation, the whole case he goes down and sure enough, it happened. Things didn't think ahead, right and then they should have with the way that the off season was unfolding. One other thing about mixing he coming back. He got his money. You know better. You know that? Yes, Larry. I appreciate the call money. Thank you. I already know. I agree that there is no Joe Mixon coming back this year. I would. I would bet money is a betting man from time to time that we do not see Joe mixing This year. There are other Bangles. Topics I want to get to him will do so in the next day, I do want to. I want to talk about Trey Hopkins comments and a photo that was circulating this week from the Miami Dolphins game. I also want to talk about this off season coming up for the Bangles, is it The biggest offseason. In team history. We will talk about that talk about who's untouchable on this team. Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon won't return this week but could return this season
"Mason is out for week fourteen. There's a possibility he plays again this season but they're not committing to anything that being really cautious with makes into lock that because they've nothing's happening for nichols this year next year is where it's at so good for mangoes not so good for your fantasy teams if you've got him unfortunately.
Joe Mixon: Cincinnati Bengals place running back on injured reserve, will not play against Washington
"Will be on the road to take on the Washington football team this afternoon kickoff one o'clock here on your home for the best Bangles coverage. The Bangles will be without running back Joe Mixon for ELISA next three games. He was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a foot injury guard Quinton Spain and quarterback Jalen Davis were elevated on the practice squad on Saturday to the active roster for today's game, the return to that practice squad on Monday. Safety tray. Von Henderson was removed in the Copa 19 reserve list and was placed on the practice squad.

"That's you know, Here's what I think. I told this was talked about this. I think Zach Taylor. Is in a position where he has to prove himself. He doesn't feel like a lot of people and probably rightfully so have a lot of confidence, really head coach even when he was when he was hired. Really? I think he's got to show how smart you is. And so he outthought himself there instead of giving the ball to Joe Burrow on a sneak Joe Mixon are sneak Giovanni Bernard on a run up the middle or to the outside or any number of their 12. Other things you would have done before you hand the ball to go back when I played football at ST Saviour's with Gordon veteran. Oh, we had a guy in the back field name. Alan Stryker, Alan Stryker, the great Alan 46 give the ball to number 46. And let him decide. Topper best player. We can live with that. But not ones. They piss one small J p Ro p. Ryan, I wouldn't get the vault of that guy and people even those on the team. Why, Hey, tricked it now, want it? Because I think he again. You ever thought of some point during the countless hours of film study? That's the guy, right? Oh, I bet we can really trick tomorrow third and short scenario by giving a little surprise, Quick handoff to the full back on the dive where they use a fullback. I don't know now. The 1st 22 games of Dave Shula versus Zach Taylor, who won more games. Dave Shula Arzak Shuler, his brother from another mother. I don't know the answer. I know he is. Sure Twins had a much better record. Yes, Dave Shula, and now we got Zack Shula. Does he complete this season? Things gotta get switched around in a hurry. Because there's a deal. It is for all the negatives. There's a lot of positives. Believe it or not, we got Joe Burrow whom I saw you before the season started number one question is at the end of the year. Can we a spans and a staff and organization looking challenge? Say Joe Burrows, the dude. He looks like the dude right? Looks like he's no one's saying, God, I love we picked the right note note saying he looks good. All we got that we've got T Higgins. He's looks real good. Jesse Bates, young safeties playing good, Not bad. Tyler Boys, a young guy playing good, Not bad. So the point is, you have a lot of those pieces, especially the Big one. Which is quarterback. You gotta nail that the bills before Kyle Allen. We're trying to nail quarterback since Jim Kelly. It's hard to get that piece, right. We think we've got to think we got it so you don't need to have it. You can't waste the time. How many years of the Colts waste with Andrew Luck? A transcendent, talented quarterback didn't surround him with the right kind of place. He coming back. By the way, your luck is not coming back. Rumors are maybe next year after Koven. According to who may have just made that up. Is that possible? Maybe would be great. So anyway, I don't think so. I don't think he's coming back. But nevertheless, I think at some point things need to change quickly around the scene because you cannot hurt the development in waste Prime.

"In Cincinnati sports. It was 30 years ago tonight. It was Eric Davis. It was Dave Stewart. And it was epic. I have found what? I didn't find it. He had found it. For the first time. I know it's first time I've played it because I didn't think we had it. And every year I played the Jack Buck TV call. No offense, but I wanted to hear the Marty call. We will relive this date 30 years ago tonight, October 16 1990 Game one of the world's Siri's in the Eric Davis home run. The way I looked at it for the off the beaten path topic. We need a win this week, but we need something fun for everything that has happened this week from sadly, Joe Morgan's passing to the Bengals lost over the weekend to a UC football being canceled. I needed to deliver something that would uplift us. We could have some fun with in the eight o'clock hour tonight, we will remember relive One moment in Cincinnati Sports 30 years ago tonight. Where were you when Eric Davis struck in the first inning? Do that one hour from now, maybe a little bit more on this core five for the Bengals, and then I do want to get into a secondary topic in the Bengals and then yelps in sports sports in the yips. What we'll call it because I don't know if you've if you've been paying attention to what's going on with the Houston Astros and the and the Rays and who's able to pay this week developed a case of the yips. He's committed three throwing errors. He has struggled to throw the baseball to to first base or to second base. It's been difficult to watch. And as I thought about that I kind of Google this week, hips and sports and the names that popped up, some of which I had forgotten it and what happened in their careers. When something just in their mind. They used to be able to do it, and then they they couldn't do it anymore. Forgot how to do it had trouble doing the simplest of things when it came when I was shooting a free throw or throwing a pitch or hitting a golf ball. What that's one of the names will get into before we're done as well. We begin this hour, with all the lines open at five. 137491 7800 the big one and pounds 700 on a TNT. If you're just joining us Welcome to the mix. It's a mix that was kind of stirred up by Bob Trumpy. Some 15 years or so ago when he would talk about the Bengals. Inability is a franchise one of many things they were unable to do to identify the core of their football team. Who the guys were that were worth keeping around and building around. Citing extensions to Teo Keepem. Make sure you lock him up. They kind of defined the organization and what we're building here. We got to keep him. And each year since I've asked you to identify the core five of the Bengals kind of like your fantasy football team from one year to the next, you know, you get five keepers. You throw everybody back into the pool. Well, what I look for each year is and I keep a running tabulation of your vote, who the five keepers are for the Bengals. Those players worth keeping and building around and and what you base it on whether it's their age. The position they play. How good they are now. How much upside they might have what their injury history is. At this moment, your vote is Borough Jesse Bates, Tyler Boyd. Jonah Williams and tea Higgins. Those are the five um, competition from Joe Mixon. D. J. Raider getting support Logan Wilson getting support Sam Hubbard. Getting support close to that order were now to 15 different Bengals who have received consideration and been have been named since I started this this morning. My five A burro, Jonah Williams, Tyler Boyd, Jesse Bates and D. J Reader. James Rippin checked in last hour similar same first for Borough Bates Boyd. Jonah Williams. He went with Carl Lawson in his mind the best pass rush er on this team. 15 now mentioned and I laugh as I look back at 2008 when we did this exercise. This was the perception and how the roster was viewed. You chose Carson Palmer. Robert gathers. I'll say that again, Robert gathers. Jonathan Joseph. Keith Rivers. And then the fifth spot was a tie between T. J. Houshmandzadeh in Leon Hall 12 years ago when we did this in October, Robert Gathers and Keith Rivers were identified as Corp. Which points to the state of the roster at that time. One year later, Ramola Luca Was added to the list in 2000 and nine If this vote right now holds up There will be three new faces on the list. Tyler Boyd will join this list tea. Higgins will join the list. And obviously, Joe Burrow will join the list, replacing William Jackson, the third from last year. Joe mixing from last year and Sam Hubbard from last year. Right. Also, when we continue, um there have been to this point of the season. There's been Carlos Dunlap, voicing his unhappiness publicly about his role in this football team. There has been the outburst of of a J. Green and his frustrations. There's been the curiosity surrounding Gino Atkins and kind of what was up with his status for the first four weeks when he wasn't put on the injured list, but wasn't available to play. It was also a year ago. The fiasco surrounding Cordy Glenn Public confrontation with coach suspended by the team. I asked Richard Skinner last night if Those can be connected. If they're if those were all dots that are connected. There's something new today I asked James repeat about it. A Bengal defensive player tweeted actually last night. And then it was responded to buy. Two other Bangles and a former bangle of along the lines of Unhappiness with their role on the football team and how they're being used. I want to get into what was said on Twitter and ask you What we make out of this. Because Zach has, you know, since they won used the talking points connected. The term accountable..

"Thurman. Chad Johnson. Levi Jones and Eric Steinbach. Now. What's interesting? By the very next year, the core in the eyes of the fans had changed. To Carson. Jonathan Joseph. T. J. Houshmandzadeh, Levi Jones and Chad Johnson. So Odell Thurman had fallen out of favour is a core five guy and replaced by Jonathan Joseph. Eric Steinbach head dropped out and been replaced. By T. J. Houshmandzadeh. You go to AA may skip ahead a couple of years. Ah, about 2012. The core five. You chose a J. Green, Vontaze Burfict, Gino Atkins, Andy Dalton and Michael Johnson. Michael Johnson was once chosen as a member of the Corps five to build around for the Bengals. 2014 the next year. Jeremy Hill. Made the list identified as a core player. For the Bengals. I'm also struck by the number of players that gets get votes when I do this, like in 2017 20 different Bengals players got at least a vote. In 2018. It was 17 different players. Last year. It was 18 different players. Here's what I mean by fascinating from that standpoint is a good or bad Is it? Is it good that there's that many different players who got consideration? Because of the depth of your roster. Or is it bad that that many players got consideration because there aren't an obvious standout rise above the other five? I started this Ah, this year's edition this morning at about nine o'clock. To this 0.14 different Bengals have received a vote 14. Can I give you my five? That I will ask James repeating his five Then I will ask you your five coming up around 6, 45 or so all right. Um, the easiest one obviously is job, Earl. If he's not part of your core five, then We need to have a much longer discussion another time. I think another easy one. Years. Jonah Williams. I wonder how many Will ride. The moment, um of his play this year that has him rated as the top player to his position in the NFL by pro football focus and his age. Only 23 to include like I do. A safety. Jesse Bates. My fourth And I I admit to hesitating on this not not a lot, but he I don't think he's the one I think he's a really good too. So part of my debate in my mind is, do you really consider a core guy? Someone who's not a one in terms of a wide receiver? That's Tyler boy. So I've got burrow, Jonah Williams, Tyler Boyd and Jesse Bates. Now, keep in mind. I can certainly be talked out of it. One or two of these a later on in the show. My struggle is at five. On one hand. I like Joe Mixon. The Bengals like Joe Mixon. Gave him a nice contract extension at $48 million. I also know he's a running back. We know how running backs are viewed around the NFL. We know there are more stories of contracts for second contracts for running backs that have gone sideways than the right way. Joe didn't have a tunnel wear and tear, Joe still young. CJ reader is only 26 years old. 26, a known accepted, praised leader. The middle of the defensive line. Logan Wilson is a rookie whose athletic and surly has flashed But the sample size is so small. Can you really commit to one of your core five spots to a rookie linebacker? William Jackson, the third Excites me. But I keep thinking, William Jackson. The third should be Mohr. Then he has been Maybe that maybe that really flashes this year. Maybe it's a return to what 2017 William Jackson the third and he's just a he's a core passing league. Arguably, I'm not going to say a shutdown. But in the conversation of man, I think the track he's on that's going to be one of those may be Those air four I'd listen to an argument or a case made for it. Carl Lawson. Certainly the Bengals like The track of his career. He's being more opportunities and Carlos Dunlap see last week sold whatever we call that took place. I've had a number of people today. Tell me they're putting Germaine Pratt on the list. Ah, I'm not prepared to do that. I think right now is I hesitate to put Logan Wilson as a rookie, so I'm probably picking one of three between mixing reader and William Jackson, the third And I I I've seen with my own eyes. What mix it has done. I know what he would mean to Joe. I know the drawbacks of the offensive line right now. I like the age. I like the fact they haven't driven him into the ground in the first three years of his career. I really I really like D J reader a 26 because I could see 26 all right, five more years. Assuming he's fine after the quad issue as a leader. So I've got four and I gotta pick one more before the night is done, but burrow, Jonah Williams, Boyd and Bates and probably in the Burrow, Jonah Williams, Bates and Boyd. I feel comfortably saying they are locked in. When we continue, we'll talk with the man from locked on. How about that For a Safeway locked on Bengals Podcast and s i dot com.

"And if you can't run the talent in the right direction, you know you got hurt when is crashing and I just I just don't understand why this team does not have an identity to this point, the wealth status identity, But you know what a win to get the confidence and maybe that happens. But if they don't run that guy, Joe Mixon back in the back, you know, I just don't I go back to this 100,000 times. I don't see how they're ever going to be successful and utilizing the short passes is run extensions, and we could see a lot of that, you know, with a Geo Bernard. And Ah and Joe. This guy should be as good or better than Christian McCaffrey catching the ball out of the backfield. We're seeing glimpses of it, but we got to Seymour and He's Ah, He's a Ferrari. We've got to keep him out of the garage. If there's no question bothers, it can't be the point or first of all, they can't get down. They can't get to touch down now because now They're not built here and have this job world a hell of a talent and he's only going to get better and better and that But you cannot go back there. Have him go back there with a bull's eye on then I'm going to pass the ball. I'm going to throw the ball every down. You just cannot do that. And that That's the makeup and that's not. You know, That's unfortunate scenario when you put yourself in second and long, but they're all you really don't have much of a choice. Like the Pringles cannot afford to get down to a ball club like the Baltimore Ravens. They will eat them alive, and that's when you started start hitting the lot side scoring when you're desperate. The ring of half first. They've got to stay in the game that gather around the football. They gotta play field possession and they've got to contain and I'm going to say it. They've got to contain Lamar Jackson. Right. I just don't know if there's a football team out there that can actually do that. And if they do get behind, you could rest assured the Bengals will have about 8 to 10 possessions. Only in this football game you need Mohr. You did sustain drives. You need to gosh, get a lead and attempt to hold it because you're right. If you get behind your you're sunk. Oh, And when you look at the Baltimore Ravens offense, take one of the things that stands out in my mind. It's the fact that things don't get the CT is also twice a year. You don't see a three tight and often on offense that's really dominated by the titanium. So it's not something you joining 3 to 4 to five days. To prepare for it, So and I and I just remember Going back to my playing days, but I don't do a lot. But I just remember the only time the only player that we have also unit would go sit down on the bench. One would ask Michael taking me when the difference was on the football field because we knew very centers were going to was going to embarrass our defense personnel one that so don't get me wrong. What we knew if he caught someone once that I would be. He's the next weekend practice and you have that in the morgue. Jack and Lou Martin is a younger, maybe even a electrifying player than Michael Vick. And you know, he's on ly getting better losing his arm. We know what he could do with his legs. And it presents a defense of court mayor's nightmare to try to come up with something to contain him. You mentioned Barry Sanders and I have a flashback. To the Pontiac Silverdome. Michael Bankston had his arms wrapped around Berries, legs, and Barry broke the tackle and made a bee line to the right pylon for a 50 yard touchdown. I'll never get it. Wow, Michael shouldn't feel bad. It was a whole whole lot of God. They thought they had him and looked up and they have air in their hand..

"Just having run out of the tunnel on the field for broadcast over the next three hours way We got a lot to get to between Now and nine o'clock tonight. Let me get to the headlines and we'll go We start with the Bengals. They get backto work continue work today. In preparation for the Ravens in Baltimore on Sunday. Gino Atkins and Jonah Williams limited with shoulder issues. Joe Mixon was limited today with a shin issue that popping up on the injury. Port Logan Wilson was a full go today. The story of the day, Carlos Dunlap is unhappy with an apparent change in his role. And a demotion. You will hear from him coming up in about 15 minutes. It's good. Lamar Jackson did not practice again today for the Ravens. He's dealing with the knee injury and now an illness that was added to the injury report. It's the first time in his NFL career he's missed back to back practices still believed not serious enough either the owners or the knee injury to prevent him from playing. On Sunday for precautionary measures. I think he should sit out. Yeah, I think so. You wanna risk that? Yeah, Well, you know, it's early the long season to go. The Ravens have 10 starters on their injury related injury list today, 10 starters on their injury last Thursday night Football. The three and one Buccaneers are in Chicago to face the three and one Bears catch the game on Fox Sports 13 60, No Trivino, Tom Brady and Nick Foles. Become the first quarterbacks to face ofthis starters in a Super Bowl and then later in their careers, each starting for a different team that according to the Elias ever about that I, That's when I saw you, so that's pretty good stats. College football. The Houston Cougars rock finally start their season tonight. After five games have been postponed or reschedule due to cope in 19. They'll play two lane, who's already played three games and in baseball, the Braves beat the Marlins seven Nothing this afternoon. They sweep the Siri's. They're bound for the NLCS for the first time since 2000 won. The Marlins did not score in the final 19 innings of the Siri's. After the Reds didn't score in 22 innings of they're so could they have gone three wise and beat a man on? This is insane. The Braves in five postseason games. Have four shut outs. They've allowed five runs total in the five games. They're the first team since the 1905 New York Giants to allow to have four shut outs in the first five games of a postseason nuts right now, let me check and get it update on that Astros game At last check. It was top 67 to 4 and that was the Astros leading. I'll try to get you an update here. The Astros were up two games to one in that Siri's at a best of five. Astros have now extended that lead. It is 9 to 4 heading to the seventh tonight, the Rays and Yankees Tampa Bay up two games to one, the Padres and Dodgers lay up two games to one as well. That is a look at your headlines and boy were man. We have various issues and elements of this game to get to first. Let's backtrack. Let's go back to Sunday where the first half has gone on like you're really here we go again, but rock to me. The second half was was an encapsulation of what Bengals football ultimately might look like, in very happy time. Offensively, it was like Heck, yeah. Where was that? More often? They they became committed to the run. They stuck with what was by the way. If I had a nickel for every college coach, I talked to During my weeks in going to games. Who says God, we really got established around and this week we gotta stick with it. We can't just abandon early and sure enough that weekend. More often than not, they abandon the run very early. I just think it's in the outside of the chaos of the game. Okay, You understand? You got establish it, but I think once you get in the contest There's a panic. There's always this thing work, and we got a change. We can't keep doing the same thing and you get away from it. So it was good to see the Bangles. In that instance. Finally stay committed to that. One of highlights for me to the game was contributions by young players has to have you fired up about this team. Obviously, Joe Burrow tea, Higgins. You know, Joe Mixon Wyler boys, a young guy drew sample handsome catches, You know, defensively, Jordan Evans kind of a younger guy. You know. So Jesse Bates play very, very well. I think it has to have you excited as a fan you're seeing, you know, it's a lot of good ball plane by some younger guys for the future. You're so right on the run. I think Joe had only 30 yards at the half winds up with 1 51 on the ground. And they they ran a lot more on first. And remember last week we talked, I think going into the game they had thrown on first. Now, like 77% of the time for in a way, the most in the league, and on Sunday, they ran on first down 16 times, and it doesn't take a rocket science rocket scientists are ah genius to figure out if you're going to run and get 45 yards. On first down everything else kind of lays out there in terms of the playbook And what options? You have to use it that second four second six, second three. That's AH, much better. You know, the old saying the playbooks open there. You head to the chains, all that sort of thing and really work, you know, And the weird thing is Alex Redmond. What if you look at the pro football focus numbers? He was Okay, But I would argue his okay was much better than what they had in the previous games at that position in rock, You know, this is a linebacker in the comfort you feel and knowing who's on each side of you. I think there has to be something to Bobby Hart and Trade Hopkins and Alex Redman, knowing each other words coming to the line and let's we're going to check to this or what wink of an eye. Whatever it is. There's comfort there. Alex Redmond is never going to be an all pro, but he was certainly serviceable for this football team on Sunday. Two things. Obviously, there's no position group out more than offensive line that needs continuity and each trust that really needs. The best thing is having lots and lots of practice together. So you get that report, but His Redman and been here since 2016 right, and he'd put big plate next Bobby Hart for a couple of seasons, and Trey Hopkins knows where he's at and plus the added element of one thing, and I know Dae lapping always talks about this, but you know Redman's Aziza No, He's a He's a guy. He's the kind of guy who's gonna finish you over a pile, and I think when you want when the mentality is, Hey, we got to run the ball. You need that attitude. I think the Bengals coaching staff said that, Hey, if nothing else, we'll put this guy and maybe we'll smash them guys in the face a little bit, at least give us that mentality to get that run game going when we come back. The most interesting news of the day comes in the form of Carlos Dunlap. You are going to hear a sizeable chunk of his zoom call today, which was fascinating. Certainly, from the standpoint of what you're going to hear him say playing out on zoom How he learned about it. And I know you've got it. You've got a thought on what it might mean which I find very interesting and will also get into the dynamics of Should he have learned in a different way or not of this news? "You know, and it's cost you so at this point guys like Joe Mixon guys, you drafted hi kaha Hai DP guys. I understand you love them. I understand you, you know, really have big plans for your team with them. But you cannot continue to let the ship sink because of them. This is not talking were injured players. If you have injured players, obviously, it's a different story and you know when they get healthy them back in your lineups, but for guys who have been healthy and playing or active every week and they're not producing you cannot continue to rely on them with that being said is now take away too. It's time to start believing in the players that you didn't draft early or that you didn't draft at all or that you thought was a sleeper that you it's a lottery ticket move right off. Or you know, I got him as a throwing in the deal cuz I kind of was feeling you know, rolling the dice on them, but I didn't draft him with expectations that having to start this guy in a weekly basis. It's time you started doing that. I told you guys I've been telling you guys Jerick McKinnon Jerick McKinnon Jerick McKinnon get him in your lineup. It's happening folks. I know you got a little beat up this week. That's fine. If you can play you put them in your lineup. It doesn't matter because Jerick McKinnon wage, even if he doesn't get the the targets and the carriers that you want from a good Joe Mixon, he's going to he's still big play ability. You gotta have that in your lineup rather than hand the ball to jump makes him twenty times and get nothing. But let Jeremy Jeremy Kenny get it five times catching 5 * 10 * Russian, whatever it is and watch him do something watch him break Thirty yards forty yards fifty yards touchdown. You need that big play ability. You can't let it slow like Joe mix it hold you back James Robinson. Everyone was concerned. Who is this? Rookie? You know we talked about him on the show is this guy really just got really why they trade it for a net. Like what is it? You keep you kept wandering right week off. And week-to-week. Okay. Stop wandering. Stop one during the fact is Jane Robinson is getting work James. Robertson is good. The team believes in him the coaches believe in him believe in him trust him. Let it put him in your life. If you if he fails it is what is. It's just it's a fact that he should be in your lineup if you have them it is what is Brooke. He's who are producing just in Jefferson went off don't look at it and go. Oh Justin Jefferson just went off. Do you have like a bazillion yards a touchdown? That's just a flu game. No, no get it. Get him in your lineup. Why continue to pull pull long drag and dead bodies? Just cuz you drafted them early age get the rookies into your lineup or produce and it's okay. It's okay you got it's important. I I I stress this all the time on the podcast and conversations. Whatever it is when people are asking for life, you gotta gamble. You gotta take risks. You gotta take your shots. You just gotta do it. So Joe Mixon ain't working out for you. Someone else you made rather lie isn't working out for you doing injuries. Trust these guys took The guys that you drafted latest sleepers your lottery tickets the guys you were just rolling the dice on the guys. We've been telling you here and clocked address to put in your lineup to trust. I mean all these guys certain no one's going to hit a hundred of the time..

"This is your host Neil maligno. No, you are not confuse. You know, you did not bump your head you have it, right? This is not Wednesday. And normally we drop our episodes every Wednesday. I know it's a little out of character. We are still dropping our episode on Wednesday With Me Josh and Adam that's not changing but to give you guys a little extra content during the week. So maybe an episode or two during the week besides the normal Wednesday episode. What I will say is this episode will not be an hour-plus long. It will not be a bunch of conversations and people Baton back and forth. I just want to break down and discuss things I see that I find important from week three that I think we need to either adjust with or that are important to point out and important to make sure that we adapt wage in any way possible or just things that are sticking out to me whether it's a player situation whether it's a a strategy you need to adjust or approach this week. It could be anything at all and some things that are popping out to me right now are obvious and I want to make sure that we talked about them before it's too late because if you're listening to the clouds podcast you're listening to when your fancy Lee let's be honest, you're winning for a different point of view them in other places, you're listening for some entertainment you're listening for all this stuff. But you know, we try to stay ahead of the trends, you know, we take risks, you know, we gamble we don't play that safe shit. We don't play that safe scared, but we don't play that we do the things a little differently here. So what I want to do is number one the most one of the most important takeaways I have for a week three is no more waiting on players now dead. And we had Josh and I'm on the show last week. We talked about guys like Joe Mixon Drew Brees Odell Beckham. He's been at hot topic of conversation and fancy circles. These guys are players that you drafted early more than life or towards the higher end of your draft. Maybe not Drew Brees cuz I mean here at least you know, that's clock Dodgers. We don't believe in drafting quarterbacks early. You guys know how we do that but still whenever you drafted Drew Brees a lot of times took it in him a little earlier than you would have other quarterbacks either way Drew Brees aside, Joe Mixon Odell Beckham, these kind of guys went especially Joe Mixon. He's he's more the poster boy of what I'm trying to get at right now or just juice conversation. I keep getting questions every week and we talked about on the show too. But I see them on Twitter. I see them a little social places that we're at and people ask do I keep waiting on Joe Mixon. Do I keep jobs in Jamaica and I even joked about it with someone on Twitter. I can't when forgot your name right now. It's not my head, but you know who are if I can't remember for the other step aside. I will shout you out, but from my conversations birth. Jerick McKinnon on the podcast he half-jokingly. Hit me up. I think it was says was it says I think it says shout out to says says at at page sixty-eight..

"McAllister, Rocky Boy, When we ride till nine tonight, three full hours. You know, as I was thinking about this show coming in on the fact we've We've been in different studios doing this and obviously we're not on remote. But a shout out and I miss him. And I think you know I speak for you as well. Adding Crystal, who used to always sit at the bar crystal one. The giveaway like every week, you know, I wanna frame to print and it was the big Buckeye fans. So crystal and Ed, if you're listening. Ah, we missing We're thinking about you and Brad Shell, who would always sit in the back and he would mess with me on the names. I'd pull out for the prizes, and he would Like Vladimir's Party, Brandon Earth or Carlson and and I don't like, shout out for that. You know this prize Arthur Carlson, and I'd look around the crowd and nothing that he just be sitting there, laughing. Then it would hit me. He was talking about the big guy from W therapy in Cincinnati. So there's absolutely on Offensive line issues I want. I want you to take a listen to what Joe Mixon said today about the frustration of not being able to get the running game going and then I think there's a couple off shoots to that we can get into here's Joe when asked today with the media if it's frustrating right now falling behind and not being able to run the ball, and all that goes with that. Uh, yeah, Definitely. You can get frustrating at times, but I mean, also, you've got a nota situation. So you know, it's been kind of tough. Like you said, if I'm from behind, but at the same time can't put ourselves in that position. So That's the consequence when you plan from by going to that's unacceptable for us. That's not what we should be right now. But that's the situation we're in right now. So at the end of the day, you always want to go out there. Just go when one day at a time, So you know the way we preparation throughout the week. We've gotto go ahead and apply it to the game. And can be playing from behind can be having mental mistakes, mental errors and penalties and stuff like that, because, you know, awesomely costumes, So we got a down on that and, you know, be more disciplined. But you know everybody's taking accountability with themselves in each position room and even with the coaches, so I believe it will be in a good A good spot this week. Joe Mixon talking about the frustrations and and rock. Everybody's number one talking point is the offensive line and and When we've talked about it, as long as we've talked about it week after week, year after year, I almost struggle to think of what is new to say about the offensive line, which which you brought up this week when we were kind of comparing notes. No one thing. No, I don't think the Bengals Have had to turn away from the run because there's you know, blown out so much they they have to mean you look at the game last week in the second quarter there down 21 13, and that's not agree. Sizable amount where you have to abandon the run their abandon the run because it's not working. Right. And what? What? What? The only thing that's really working right now is Joe Borough on the short and intermediate passes. Yeah, so I think there's something to be said about maybe trying to hang in with that run game a little bit longer. Obviously, that depends on the results you're getting, but I mean, that is the most Russia import. Lance's What can change at this point, right? The only thing that was different about this line from last year. OK, you get Jonah Williams. That's a pretty big when you get Xavier Su'a Filo, and then you get 1/7 round pick, but the amount of over all that You and I think a lot of people thought this line needed didn't happen. Bangles had two choices in the off season. Do you address the run defense or do we address the offense of line they chosen addressed the defense. They spent a lot of money so In the day. You know you're going to get so good unless you bring different guys in. I mean, you gotta challenge those guys. You got to coach him up and, you know, I think you know the left side's playing pretty good, but outside the calories in common is what it is what it is. They are what they are at this point. And I was struck by how you phrased it in the mail this week in terms of protecting the investments you've got, Joe Burrow and you've got Joe Mixon who you invested four years 48 million in you invested in a number one pick in the draft in Joe Burrow and yet You've left him hanging for for lack of a better word with a with a piecemeal offensive line that you're right there. Yeah, I almost feel like it's it's kind of like rearranging the chairs on the deck chairs on the Titanic. We get excited about the littlest old Fred Johnson's gonna get a shot at right guard again or, well, Alex Redmond was signed to the practice going. I mean, we went there. What are we doing here? I like unnoticed respect Alex Redman. I like an Alex Redmond toe. Juan de Peralta, the former Reds picture the Reds would keep wanted Peralta round despite the lack of results, and it would drive me crazy, and I would say it's a sure sign. You're not doing enough to develop better players. If you have to keep going back to a Wandy Peralta or a Cody Reed or somebody else. And I would make the comparison Alex Redman, if if if you have to keep going backto Alex Redman, What does that say about the state of your offensive line? In the way your organization has scouted, drafted, developed and prioritize the position that you have to keep going back to Alex Redmond and then also, that point is, there's no really guy on this roster. Realign. Why don't we give him a chance? To be honest? Given everybody a chance, and you know, and God loving that they're doing what they can. But outside of bringing in some free agents, you know, trading for somebody. I don't which is likely not going to happen. I don't see how it gets better. And I will say this I think A little bit falls on Joe Mixon in that look, I'm of the opinion. You pay a running back. To make things happen when the offense when the line and the blocking isn't quite as good If you have amazing offensive line, you don't need to pay a Joe Mixon. Right. You could get a Nordic Sanders kind of city, right? Exactly. So I think Joe Mixon Khun. Maybe be a little more expected of him, too. Hey, man, we're paying you this money because we think you have the ability to succeed without Having a top tier offensive line..

"And last year's Bengals team. Zach Taylor had no chance from the gecko last season was often defined by chaos. They're not going to have their first round pick a. J. Green is not going to play. Okay, well can age a play? Well, maybe should he play? I don't know. He's out there running routes that that was a disaster that the court E. Glenn situation where he was apparently ready to play. But He didn't want to play and we had the sloppy way that the Andy Dalton transition to Ryan Finley, then back to an adult how that was handled. It just it was, it was filled with chaos. Now things have calmed down a little bit. You got to give a coach a chance to do his job free of distractions and issues and things that get in the way of winning. You've got to do the best thing that the best you can to give a coach a chance and If you eliminate the questions about Joe Mixon Sze deal and how it's going to impact the team this year and whether or not he's going to sit out of the game because he's upset that he didn't have a contract. You've got to eliminate those things from the head coach. You've got to take that off of his desk the amount of things that Zack had to deal with last year While he's trying to coach the team, I think made his job more difficult. You've got to go out of your way to make sure that look, his job is hard this season. It's hard enough rookie quarterback no preseason all sorts of transition. Lots of different obstacles being thrown out. Every coach in the NFL is trying to establish a program. Gotta work around an offensive line. That's not that good kind of make his job easier. You can. So if you take away the issue of one of his best players not having a contract for beyond this season. I think you do it. I think you're doing To be honest with you as much as you might worry about the back years, the back end years of Joe Mixon contract. I'm more worried about what this team does over the next three. I'm so impatient with watching this team not win that if if they've got it, they've got to pay the freight a little bit later on for some short term success. I'm willing to go ahead and do that. And if they view is Joe Mixon is somebody who over the next beyond 2020 when he was already entertained control, but in 2021 in 2022 can help them win in the short term. I'll pay. I'll pay the freight later. If Ah, I will gladly pay that bill later of Joe Mixon helps them win now. Plus, they've got a contract, a rookie quarterback. A rookie under quarterback under a rookie contract. More on this coming up here in just a bit, but first preseason chat with Dave Lapp. He'll join us after the 7 30 news on 700 wlw. "And it's an annoying coachspeak buzzword, but but it's you could tell From February of 19 when he got the job to now, Zach Taylor has talked often about I want to build a certain kind of culture here. And, you know, look, let's be honest. We knew when he got the job. By the time the Bengals were good again, that locker room was going to be different. The quarterback was probably going to be different. The personality of the team might be different, But in the short term, he's trying to establish a culture, which is here's how we play. Here's how we prepare. Here's what kind of teammates I want our guys to be. This is how we're going to do things a winning culture. So this is kind of how I viewed the Joe Mixon decision. Zack Tailors had a season. The coach Joe Mixon. By the way, it was a miserable season for the team. Joe in the first half of the year was awful. I'm not really sure it was his fault that much in the second half of the season first half of the year. Joe makes an average about three point Wanna carry second half of the year. Joe average about 4.6 to carry Um But But if you're a coach, and you have a season, the coach a guy like Joe Mixon And you have a chance knowing that culture is important to you. You watch this guy go about his business every single day. You see how he prepares, Watch out plays you get healthy fits within the framework of what you're trying to build if you've concluded You know what this guy fits our culture. Then the people you work for should go ahead and get the deal done. Every coach at some point deserves T get a chance to coach the kinds of players they covet. I have no idea of Zach Taylor is a good coach or not. We're goingto start to find out this year. I mean, this is to me. The Zach Taylor era begins in 2020 last year, and this year, it accounts and we're not giving this dude 67 years to figure it out more really like to and beyond. Last season. Two years from now, we're not seeing results gonna have to move on because I can't let the job burrow time. Come and go and and and let it let it pass.
