And walls looked at me and said, Joe Kennedy has no weaknesses. He's young. He's handsome. He's rich. He's a Kennedy and he's a nice guy. You know what his problem is and this election is going to be he's not add markey. And I thought it was sort of a great answer because it kind of. First of all, he gave me that answer without even hesitating but he had a lot of confidence that his guy could rise to the moment and that his job was just to ensure that voters really got to know Ed Markey and that was Markey's big deficit going into this race was a poll showed that a lot of people didn't know who he was in spite of the fact that he'd served so many years and I think what marquee managed to do in the course of this campaign was convinced will obviously he did it to commence enough people who he was and. Ed Markey defeats Joe Kennedy in Massachusetts primary, ending Kennedy family winning streak

"Sure. The big election is November but the election day to watch at least in Massachusetts. This year was the Democratic primary on Tuesday night, which saw congressman Joe Kennedy the third. Yes. That same Kennedy family wage rare intraparty challenge to incumbent Senator Ed Markey. At. First it was a race about generational change and considered Kennedy's to lose. But that changed that generational argument was not as potent here as it has been elsewhere like when now congresswoman Ion Presley pulled off her surprise win in a nearby Boston district just two years ago. Marquis touted his left leaning Boniface including his green new deal sponsorship in the Senate and lockdown a coveted endorsement from congresswoman Alexandra Okay Cortes among other progressive groups plus Marquee Social Media Strategy deployed memes and Tiktok helping to recast the seventy four year old Washington veteran as an extremely online figure popular with younger voters in the end. Marquee delivered a blow. Some are calling the end of. The Kennedy Political Dynasty I'm not sure I agree with that. I very much expect Kennedy to remain in public life and likely run for another office. Again down the line after all, he's only thirty nine but Kennedy's loss on Tuesday was a i. a Kennedy has never before lost in election in Massachusetts. Marquee will now face a Republican this November though the seat is still considered safely. Democrat. So, let's get to the point. It's almost a rarity these days an incumbent, actually fending off a younger primary challenger with a potent last name, but Ed Markey did it. And that is the point four September second twenty

Markey fends off Kennedy in Massachusetts Senate primary that divided Democrats

"Joe Kennedy. The third loses Democratic Primary Challenge of Massachusetts Senator Edward Markey. By Steve Leblanc for the Associated Press in Boston. US, Senator Edward Markey of Massachusetts defeated. US Representative Joe Kennedy. The third in Tuesday's hard-fought Democratic primary harnessing support from progressive leaders to overcome a challenge from a younger rival. WHO's a member of America's most famous political family. It was the first time. A Kennedy has lost a race for Congress in Massachusetts Marquis. Appeal to voters in the deeply democratic state by positioning himself as aligned with the liberal wing of the party he teamed up with a leading Progressive New York representative Alexandria Cossio. Cortez on the green new deal climate change initiative, and at one point labeled Kennedy quote a progressive in name only that helped Marquis overcome the enduring power of the Kennedy name in Massachusetts. The thirty nine year old congressman sought to cast the seventy four year old marquis as someone out of touch after spending decades in Congress I in the House before moving to the Senate Kennedy said Tuesday night that the results aren't the ones he'd hoped for but pledged to work for Markey's reelection. The senator is a good man. You never heard me say, otherwise Kennedy told supporters at an outdoor rally. Kennedy also suggested that the movement of supporters the campaign pulled together would continue past the current election. We may have lost the final vote count tonight but we built a coalition that will endure. He said I would do this again with all of you in a heartbeat. In, the waning weeks of the campaign Kennedy leaned into his family's long political legacy in Massachusetts his pedigree includes former president John F. Kennedy, former US senator, and US Attorney General Robert F Kennedy, his grandfather, and former US senator Edward Kennedy who held a Senate seat in Massachusetts for nearly half a century until his death in two thousand, nine Marquis countered by leaning into. His own family story growing up in the working class city of Maldon with a father who drove a truck for the Hood Milk Company in one campaign video marquis also paraphrased a famous JFK quote saying we asked what we could do for our country we went out we did it with all due respect. It's time to start asking what your country can do for you. Marquis also found himself on the defensive at times during the campaign with Kennedy. Repeatedly trying to portray him as having a tin ear to Racial Equity Concerns Kennedy Faulted Marquis for his initial opposition to the effort to desegregate the Boston public schools beginning in the nineteen seventies marquis countered by noting that he changed his views on the contentious issue that tour at the fabric of the city he also said, he supported the creation in one thousand. Nine hundred seventy, three of a state Senate seat aimed at helping elect a black senator to the Massachusetts Legislature Kennedy also repeatedly pointed to the father of Dan Roy Dj Henry a young black man from Massachusetts killed by police ten years ago. Henry's father has criticized Marquis saying he failed to help the family seek justice markey said he has apologized to the Henry family and signed a letter seeking a Federal Justice Department investigation into the killing. Marquee also wasn't shy about talking about the Kennedy. Family at one point pressing Kennedy to tell his father former U s representative, Joe Kennedy. The second to stop supporting a Political Action Committee that was running ads against Marquis I'm sure your father is watching right now markey said tell your father right now the you don't want money to go into a super PAC that runs negative ads Kennedy said he had no idea if his father was helping fund the pack late in the race Kennedy also. Landed a major endorsement when Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi formerly backed his candidacy while Marquis who served with Pelosi in the house for decades congratulated Kennedy Pelosi's decision angered some of Markey's younger Progressive Supporters Marquee had earlier won the endorsement of Ocasio Cortez and fellow Massachusetts Democratic US senator. Elizabeth. Warren Ed. Markey wasn't afraid. He offered his expertise and partnership. He wasn't scared of big policy and didn't use kid gloves. It's great to watch him overcome the odds and wind tonight Oh Cossio Cortez tweeted Tuesday night. The Corona virus ended the way both candidates could reach out to voters severely limiting more traditional means of electioneering like knocking on doors, shaking hands or. Big rallies instead, the campaigns were largely waged on line with virtual rallies, virtual endorsements, virtual fundraisers, and virtual roundtable events to discuss issues. Eventually, as Massachusetts began to suppress the virus and emerge from a near lockdown, the candidates began to take their campaigns on the road with appropriate social distancing rules and face masks in tow. The showdown drew criticism from some Democrats nationally who feared it would siphon time and money away from the primary goals of defeating President, Donald Trump and winning back control of the Senate. It also wasn't cheap with both Kennedy and Markey raising millions to pay for campaign staff television, and digital ads and old school campaign flyers. Marking now faces a general election contest where he's considered a strong favourite in a district that has historically elected Democrats hill face the winner of the Republican Primary Kevin O'Connor in November.

Boston - Ed Markey faces Joe Kennedy in Massachusetts primary

"Day voting underway for hours now Congressman Joe Kennedy looking to unseat long time incumbent Democrat Senator Ed Markey, and a highly watched race, BBC's Karen Regal is with a Kennedy campaign and joins me now live, Karen, I think, How did we watch may be an understatement, Laurie. I mean, I saw this race on CBS this morning. I saw it on the Today show. I'm seeing it on the evening news on CNN and I started in person this morning at the Nelson School outside Worcester. Because all those national networks will not decide this race. The voters here will and you've got Kennedy supporters standing up. The required distance away from the polling place and you've got, you know a slow but steady flow of voters making their way into the Nelson School here in Worcester, where Joe Kennedy was outside asking for their vote. I mean, the polls fluctuated shows that Marquis a headbutt! In the end, it appears to be a fairly tight race. It's a weird thing. Older voters I've talked to here seem to be leaning towards Kennedy. They say they trust the Kennedy family. Younger voters are saying it's They like Ed Markey's progressive politics, So they're sticking to it. The older guy who's been in office for quite a long time. Joe Kennedy is saying he's optimistic. Joe Kennedy is saying he's looking forward to this evening. Joe Kennedy says he's exhausted, but Joe can be also telling me He is confident about the results heading toward the end of this race. I asked him if he could change one thing over the course of the year since he declared, what would it be, he said, But quite frankly, he'd get rid of this pandemic so that everybody would be well and he could. Five current members of Congress only 25 are mothers of school age Children. If we had 100 or 200, Mom's in Congress, I think we could make progress on all of the issues that we care about whether it's standing up to the NRA, whether it's taking on big oil and whether it is taking on big pharma and quality, affordable child care. A Kennedy is on the ballot in Massachusetts. Here's why he's not guaranteed a victory.

"And out front up next we're. Just. From one of the most closely watched primaries this year a young Kennedy on the ballot in Massachusetts but can he unseat a seventy four year old incumbent? Because it's about ideas I am the youngest guy. In. This race. Tonight and the fight for twenty twenty a usual dynamic emerging Massachusetts ahead of tomorrow's Democratic Senate primary. The incumbent in his seventies was support from progressives, his challenger young and Kennedy Manu. Raju is out front. The Hiroshima Political Dynasty the grandson of the leap Robert F Kennedy campaigning to serve in the Senate like his famous great uncles and grandfather before him the. Certainly. I think you're doing great job. Hello. The candidate he's right there. For Life Magazine. Thirty nine year old Joe. Kennedy is facing something unexpected. Seventy four year old senator who has been in Congress for almost forty four years. Has Managed to galvanize support of young voters. Ahead of Tuesday's Massachusetts Senate primary I think that a lot of young people that are our age at least. From from our town have been similarly really inspired by Ed Markey polls show Senator Ed Markey as the favourite threatening to make the four term. The first Kennedy to lose a race in Massachusetts unlike other primaries this year were democratic incumbents have been ousted by liberal newcomers. Marquis has managed to turn that dynamic on its head because it's about ideas. I am the youngest guy. In this race Alexandria, it's been murky seizing the mantle of the insurgent, touting his support of liberal causes at the green new deal and endorsement of the progressive firebrand. Alexandria Cossio Cortes such the green new deal that I introduced Alexandria Cossio. Healthcare justice is on the ballot. That's Medicare for all that I next the Bernie. Sanders. When he introduced it yet, it's been Kennedy with the badging of the party establishment leader Speaker Nancy Pelosi Allies have been frustrated that marquee has not been held to account for full record over four decades like his backing of the Iraq war in two thousand and two the NAFTA deal in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety, three, his position on racial issues like school desegregation dating back to the nineteen seventies progressive willing to look those hurdles that's up to a progressive movement. Out. I think an awful lot of folks in many parts of Massachusetts have a different view of that records and what that means to our communities after going door to door in working class Boston neighbors weekend. Kennedy. Accused Marquis of abandoning the state. He's been less time in the state than anybody else delegation in an interview with CNN Marquis fired back there is. No real record of Congressman Kennedy in his eight years leading on issues of of generational change in Washington Kennedy has waited until late in the campaign to stress that it's his family I. Guess It's a fighting. His blood wants to continue in the Senate tried to be really clear that it's GonNa Balance It's not my father, my grandfather brothers or anybody else and. You vote for me you're going to get now Kennedy does pull off an upset on Tuesday night it could be thanks in part to the fact that he is allies have spent more on television advertising than Markey and his allies roughly two million dollars more. But if he loses what Kennedy will do next still an open question we posed that question to him he didn't want to entertain it and said, he looks forward to running through the finish line and celebrating on Tuesday night.

Did you really not know this and have you not discuss that you'd some to the Super Pac with your father so my literally until you just said it, my father has I know my dad had about somewhere under three million dollars in old campaign account. I have no idea. If or how much of that has been diverted to a super PAC the SUPERPAC disclosures that I am aware of have the funding there from labor unions because of the timing on those disclosures. So I don't know but my point on this Mike Right and let's be very clear about this. I tried for months months to keep super pacs out of this race months. I offered the same s senator market to sign the same pledge that he put forward when he was running in two thousand thirteen and he ran on people's pledge the same place at Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown signed for their salaries. He ran on it when he ran ran first rates for. I asked him to sign the same thing so that we didn't have to get into super PACs because I don't want super PACs in this race. He said no repeated for months. There were other challenges in this race at that time myself and one of the other challenges signed that people's pledge he wouldn't, and so I I have a pretty hard time accepting some sort of criticism from the senator who was asked to stick by his word and the same pledge that he ran on back in twenty, thirteen, two, thousand, fourteen that he somehow walked away from and is now blaming me because he walked away from the same place that was good enough for him before the only reason. Why Super Pacs are industries is because Senator Mark You wouldn stay consistent congressman has mental ton of polling in this race. So it's a little bit hard to get a clear read on how you're doing with particular constituencies but Ed Markey seems to lately have gotten hot among young voters. There's the green new deal maker ad went viral memes about his Nike sneakers and there are polls that show him leading you by wide margins particularly among voters under thirty. How is it that this boomer who's more than thirty years older than you seems to be winning the kids and the Internet so that's a great question. So the first part sprite, which is I think the inconsistency in the and. Pollster at sent me Disa- quick look at two public polls one of which had senator mark up fifty points amongst young people and then another poll. Five days later that at. Eleven. A sixty one point swing and four days nothing happened in for it. I mean stuff happened. But nothing to perpetuate a sixty point swing amongst a critic selector, right so. I would just say I to the kind of the first part of your question I don't trust. Any good pollster in this race and I think this has been reflected in the media coverage would say, no one really knows what's going on and there's it's kind of a wild ride there because you've seen Kohl's that have him had a very close race. There's been some that have him up. There's been some me up. There's been some both by fairly wide margin that's because. No one knows what a universes and so how you wait who showing up and. That comes down to assumptions which might be reasonable but nobody knows and so I I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in those holes but you're going. Yet neither went viral. He's obviously some of his he's been able to tap into. This fervor from a progressive left I think it is part of that is a bit puzzling to me because I don't think that the policy positions that the progressive left. Claims to support a reflective of center. Markey's records then watches record on a number of the critical issues over the course of the past thirty or forty years is. Very much with Vice President Biden if not even further to the right than Vice President Biden particularly comes to immigration and even racial justice. That being said. The progressive left is holding Joe Biden's feats the fire. And demanding that he moved leftward but is giving senator market complete and total pass, and that's the part that I do has been a bit mystifying to me because under normal circumstances, you know center market voted for the Iraq war center market voted present. When asked whether we should send troops into Syria the only member of the Senate to vote present. Senate Marquis was the only member of the Massachusetts delegation. The only Democrat had only Democrats to vote with Republican Party immigration extremists to try to maximize number of immigrant detention beds back in two thousand thirteen when the Obama Administration is trying to cut them the Democratic Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and everybody else in Massachusetts one way. Or the other he was in the midst of another Senate race time. The fact that he again voted to try to ban interracial relationships on campus was against the desegregation of the Boston public schools. These are issues that at the very least. Right. The Progressive Left has have. dived. Into with regards to Joe Biden's issues and give Ed markey complete past the senator claims that have written five, hundred eighty bills as we talked about the debate last night he's claiming co-sponsorship literally just into a bill if it passes under that definition guys I wrote the green new deal. Right, like. That's not a claim I would make, but it's a claim he's. Fair. He's not just a co-sponsor of the green new deal. Made He. Agreed. But he's claiming that he co wrote he's claiming credit for five hundred eighty bills that passed and if you look at the bills that he's claimed credit for he's claiming credit for bills he cosponsored that's the issue. Right? He's claiming credit. He wrote the deal congressman accustomed protests I'm not debating. I was an original cosponsor on day one. I would not claim that I wrote the bill. But he is claiming a similar consistent position would enable me claim that I wrote it Congressmens do on I give you a chance to talk about the case of these two Fathers Dan Henry and Colin Bouwer. You alluded to briefly before both of whom had tragedies involving their kids and went to see senator. Markey in Washington to get his help tell us what that episode tells us about the difference between you and and Edmonds. So then this is when I say that there's more to this job in the votes cast in the bills bills file this is Dan Angela Henry. Approached me back in twenty fourteen after their son Dj was was. A college student was murdered by White, police, officer in horrible circumstances outside his college in Westchester County New York and I worked with them to push a Justice Department in Washington. New York. To try to file charges family had to pay for all the investigation out of pocket because the DA local DA declined to press charges a a in the shooting. One police officers fired another police officer at the COP that killed Dj their son and testify under oath conflict killed DJ was initial aggressor in the incident, right? Is horrible circumstances he is you can find. Local authorities did nothing we pushed on a on the Department of Justice and we weren't successful. I've still got to touch the family I show up at charity benefits they have for on their son pushing authorities in New York and Washington. Now, they met with Senator Markey shortly after they met with me and the met over launched there felt like they were dismissed insulted he refers to a black people during the meeting colored and he never got up the only thing he ever did afterwards was on sort of astonishing i. mean who says that word anymore? I mean he's a progressive liberal I mean was that racist for him to say that?.

"Okay. No problem. It's shooting semi two thousand kids that are affected. Awesome organization one. That is well supported by the philanthropic sector as well. That was education secretary Betsy DeVos attempting to justify her proposal to cut all seventeen million dollars in federal funding for the Special Olympics, which is the same cost as five Trump golf trips. Tomorrow log, oh, by the way, right now, we're joined live via satellite by congressman Joe Kennedy, who's telling us now and how his fighting back. Welcome to the show. Congressman Joe Kennedy. How are you? I'm doing great. Thanks for having me back. And appreciate the particularly highlighting this. It's an important one. Okay. So so just to recap education secretary, Betsy DeVos is proposing cutting nearly eighteen million dollars from the federal budget for the Special Olympics. Now, you're great and Eunice. Kennedy Shriver founded the Special Olympics many years ago. What does that? What does this mean to your family? How was your family handling this? So a couple of things one. It's obviously an organization my family's very proud of its one my cousin. Tim Shriver continues to run it was founded by my my great aunt, Eunice, Shriver and dedication, her sister in a devotion to her sister. Rosemary who was born to with developmental disabilities and started to literally out of our backyard, and then I games were held at about fifty years ago in Chicago, and it has grown into not just a national program. But a worldwide movement that is based on a really simple premise. Everyone counts. Everyone is dignity and everyone can and should be celebrated and very clear. Take my family out of this. Because it's not about my family. It's not that has nothing to do with. This is about an organization that has now in over six thousand schools serves nearly three million young adults young adults and the children the students that come around to support. Those folks that coaches the communities that embrace them that lift them up that highlight them, and that's my cousin TIMMY said the amazing thing about this is that the ethics that that. We celebrate end up being the the teachers and instructors, which is the real strength of this program. It's about social emotional learning. It's about inclusivity. It's about openness. It's about acceptance, which is what we want. I think an all of our children. And that's what this does Asian does. So for the federal government to then turn around and say, this isn't going to be a priority is just kind of stunning when you have a tax Bill that expanded tack favorable tax treatment tax credits for private jet. Why if this is a reflection of priorities. Why are we balancing that deficit off the backs of those special needs if not congressman Kennedy? Is Megan I love the Special Olympics. My mother was a special needs teacher part of the reason that I am as pro-life as I am is because of my great respect for all lives that exist in every ways I'm just going to play devil's advocate on the other side. So the Special Olympics of private organization, and it raises more than one hundred million dollars every year. Obviously it has the backing of the Kennedy family Betsy DeVos says there are dozens of worthy nonprofits that support. Disabled students and adults that don't get a dime of federal money. But the government can't fund everywhere the program. So is is DeVos wrong in the sense that maybe there are other organizations that are more worthy. Don't have the private backing in the way that the Special Olympics does. It's a great question. Then I think it's an important point. What I would say though, is that the federal government funds a number of organizations that provide essential community based services across the country in partnership with local nonprofits with his churches, as I said, local nonprofits, that's the way a lot of federal funding works is granted flow down into the community. If now all of a sudden, the Trump administration, MRs DeVos, saying, hey, that's not the way this is gonna work then fine. But that's not what they're saying..

I gotta give attribution R O L L C A L L as as the name would imply call the cover congress. And that's that's my source on this one roll call sign. I don't want to steal anybody's work product there. But congresswoman Marsha. Congresswoman from Ohio, and she was the congresswoman that one when Dennis Kucinich. Remember Dennis percentage was congressman the Republicans in the legislature gerrymandered, you remember the after.

"Joe kennedy nightside with dan rae was congressman joe kennedy tonight congressman kennedy is in washington and you wrote an editorial an op ed piece i believe it was for usa today talk about the mental health crisis as it relates to guns and of course we had tragically this horrific incident in santa fe texas in which ten people were killed this this is a dilemma gordian knot that we as a society just don't seem to be able to get our arms around what's what are your thoughts on this congressman heartbreaking right i can't i can't tell you the number of times that i have been in congress over the course of the past five and a half years and we have a moment silence we had one last night and that is essentially all we do all we do and we will do on this issue and it's heartbreaking because we know that it will happen again and we know what will happen again because it happened so many times we've done nothing about it and you know this is an issue that's important of an awful lot of americans it's an important one for me we hear from my conservative colleagues that this is an adult issue and that this is not a gun issue and so let's break that claim down a bit there have been a number of studies some that i believe has surveyed over two hundred episodes of mass shootings and did find that in a about twenty percent of them involve somebody that was suffering from mental illness so is it an issue and some of these instances.

"Might not touch all that much but the folks at it means an awful lot to and while we have to obviously understand what's going to happen with the average joe if you will in the average joe kennedy i would show kennedy there how that touches the folks that aren't average um and i wanna make sure that we are really careful and give requisite thought too um the policies the procedures the safeguards the protections that need to be put in place in order to mitigate from that downside risk undeniably there's states out there that have tried to go about this deliberately and thoughtfully and putting some of the safeguards and put in taxes and high tax revenue and use that revenue to turn back over the states to try to make some of these interventions that's great i do have concerns that some of which is if you tax it too much you actually create an incentive for a black market right um so we we just gotta be you got to be thoughtful about this and it's not something that i want to get in a position where you kind of rush through because clearly public opinion is on one side of this in moving pretty hard won in one direction but i do believe part of my job is to in those moments kinda take a deep breath and say okay have we thought about these various other scenarios there and we have answers for so it's interesting because when i hear you say that i hear two things one is or i think two things one is that you're talking about how does it impact people differentially which i think is important i think is under noticed in the so although why did you give an example that i read i think the opposite of the way one might which is the idea that marijuana was way you could search cars that to me the first thing i hear is that is a wonderful way for racial bias to decree been act inside of legal system that that kind of discretion given what we know about marijuana use given what we know about who gets searched bear being that marijuana use.

"Hello welcome historic launch of the box media podcast network who am i i am as her client probably guessed at my guest this week is representative joe kennedy who you might remember from such state of the union responses as of the two thousand eighteen state of the union response this is a speech is usually a graveyard his where aspiring i'll well like the ambitious politicians go to disappoint everyone in the debate fun up but kennedy speech was pretty well received it was an outpouring of interest in yes a kennedy but but the reason i think he's interesting right now is that at a moment when the democratic party has been riven by an argument about whether they should emphasize economic populism or identity he showed or re showed the power of what i would call on obama asked message the democratic party at message about inclusion about one america stands for there was a lot less trump bashing in him to him then i would have thought for that state of the union but there was quite a a residents with the messages it of worked for democrats in the past and that i begun to wonder if they would work for this democratic party in the future but but listen am i think they might so this is a conversation where i wanted to to push on all that a little bit what is it resolved down into what does that message of an inclusive america what does it mean for policy when he says that we don't have to make choices between this group or that group between that approach in this approach what happens when you do have to make a choice what happens when there is something zerosum what happens when people perceive as zero sum this so this is what i tried to do in the interview did to push him a little bit on this i found his answers interesting wealth of a fascinating discussion towards the end about drug policy he has taken a harder line on this admitting the democratic party and i was fascinated to hear why before we get to congressman kennedy as always a couple of quick asks one are you listening to today explained the greatest by guest on the internet yes including this fund this is a a pale pale shadow of today explained i am i am really really really.

"Election not even a week the thursday before the election one of hillary clinton's top people said to me we knew this was going to be a change election and we realized she could never be the change candidate so we tried to change the question and they thought that they were successful added obviously they weren't but it seems like the hillary clinton was never going to be that person so it is going to be person dependent entails app no no i do i would agree with you and so that's where you can as can put together the best message what the democratic party stands for and doesn't you know i could go give one of president obama speeches it's not going to land as if it were press obama giving it nobody else is going to be able to do that right why because it's his speech clearly of course the persona matters and the credibility around that persona the values at that person holds not how they resonate with the public and look we've seen in my mind the i kind of the highs and lows with that i think president trump who has done a very disciplined job of branding himself a certain way okay the able to maintain a level of credibility with folks at i don't think he's actually representing all that well that being said and he is tried to brand this tax cut as a middle class tax cut it's not a middle class tax cut will the middle class get some tax cut out of it that they're gonna get some part of it by any independent economic analysis is the heart of that tax cut dedicated toward the middle class no not as i was heading up to the the speech there was an article that i saw that said joe kennedy has a pot problem and i actually i want to get into the specifics of marijuana legalization but there were members of your party who were saying that you were the wrong choice to be the official democratic response because of your position on marijuana legalization doesn't that kind of tell you everything you need to know about with democrat party is right now.
