"Although we don't know the official offensive play caller just yet for the New England Patriots, some clarity on the rolls on the coaching staff this season moving forward coming to you on Monday. I'm Evan Lazar for seal and S media. Bringing you our patriots news feed for Monday, may 16th, and a busy day in Foxborough on Monday morning. We spoke to the Patriots assistant coaches for the first time this season, including Matt Patricia and Joe judge now Patricia confirmed that he will be primarily working with the offensive line this season as the offensive line coach and judge mentioned that he will be with Mac Jones and the Patriots quarterbacks. Now, the pat's assistance both said that they will dip their toes in the waters of other position groups and have a more big picture hands on approach with the offensive side of the ball, not just specifically to their positions. They have not confirmed an official play caller saying that they don't even know who the play caller is gonna be on the offensive side of the football yet for Bill Belichick, but we do have some clarity on what judge and Patricia's roles will be. That's once again, Joe judge, coaching the Patriots quarterbacks and Mac Jones and Matt Patricia, working with the offensive lineman alongside former patriot Billy Yates who will be an assistant offensive line coach yet again for the Patriots in 2022. On the defensive side of the ball, we talked to Steve Belichick. We talked to Gerard Mayo. More of the same on that side with most of them saying, we just coached football. We just coached defense. We just coached defensive players, no titles, no D.C. coordinator tag, no play callers, talked about on the defensive side of the ball. Mom was the word for the defense of coaches on the Patriots staff on Monday. Luckily though, Patricia and judge did come out and were honest and open about what their roles will be moving forward sans play caller obviously, which we'll have to wait and see in training cabin in the preseason if we can glean who exactly is holding the play sheet for the Patriots and calling those offensive plays. One more note on Monday, the Patriots have waived quarterback Derek king, the undrafted free agent rookie worked out with the team this weekend as a part of rookie mini camp, did not make it past rookie mini camp, whether it was due to performance or work ethic or what have you, who knows, but Derek king has already been released by the Patriots, so that experiment and we did see pictures on Monday morning of Derek king catching passes out at patriots mini camp over the weekend among rookies. So it looked like the Patriots are hoping that he was going to convert to wide receiver a la Julian Edelman didn't work out with Derek king. He is no longer a patriot officially waived on Monday afternoon. So JoJo is your quarterback coach, Matt Patricia's your offensive line coach will wait and see on offensive play caller and Derek king has been released by the Patriots. That's your patriots newsfeed for Monday, may 16th. I'm Evan Lazar. Thanks for watching everybody. Today's news feed has been powered by our exclusive wagering partners at bet online dot AG. "Time of the pick. I just worry if you take a guy like Cameron Thomas, is he going to play? Is he going to play? What's his role? Are they going to put them on the field over Matthew, Jude on? Are they going to put them on the field over Kyle van noy? Are they going to put them on the field over even Christian barmore, right? You talk about rushing from the nose. They're not going to play them over Barbara. Right. So the question is, is he more? Because he's two 65, two 70, right? He's right. He's a big guy. So is he more like Dietrich wise than a stand up outside rush linebacker like a Matthew judon? Right? Exactly wherever role that he could play in with the Patriots. But whenever you look at this with the Pats, I always look for guys that go to a little bit smaller schools, right? Because they do tend to pay more attention to those types of guys and maybe other teams would or give them more credence and other teams would and versatility from a defensive line perspective to line up in multiple alignments on the defensive line is always something that they like to do because they change. They are a hybrid front defense. They're base three four, but they run a bunch of different fronts. So they want to line up from all different rush spots and be able to survive whether they're reducing side, whether they're out over the tackle. They wanted those guys to be able to move around. And I think that a guy like cam Thomas or a guy like Logan hall from Houston, I do think we got to talk about fine. That's the spot that we definitely need to concentrate a little bit more on not us personally. We talk about it all the time. But just in terms of looking at their building this season. I just think if they're going defensive line, I think it's more of a, you know, they're going more than mold of attack. And maybe a tackle end, but I look at a guy like Perry on Winfrey, right? Who's the MVP the Super Bowl? Yeah. I wonder if they look for essentially another Christian far more type to play next to bar more. And, you know, here's all this athleticism coming right up the middle, generally generally correct me if I'm on generally guards or less athletic than tackles..

"Everybody had no experience until they had experience, right? Whether it's building more, whether it's Josh McDaniels, whether it's Romeo Cornell or Gerard Mayo or Brian Flores or Matt Patricia, everybody once was a position coach. They once were an assistant. They once had zero play calling responsibilities. And then all of a sudden they were given that by earning it and the rest is history. So everyone started somewhere. Bill started on special teams, right? He was right. He was coordinator and turns into the greatest defensive coach of all time. So everybody starts somewhere and maybe you just need to give somebody a chance. And it could work out as easily as it could not. Honestly. The one thing I'd say is, you know, draw, Steve, remember, the Patriots used in the preseason, even when I think Matt Patricia was their last to find defensive coordinator, right? But in the preseason, when Matt Patricia was D.C., Brian Flores would get to call plays in the preseason rod Mayo would get to call place in the preseason Steve did. I don't know that that was the case on the offensive side of the ball. These guys might have outside of judge. No, like, not even preseason experience. So, you know, you're right. You haven't done it until you die. Right. And, you know, it's going to be an interesting storyline to follow in the preseason. And obviously, teams don't call their full playbook in the preseason, but it's something to watch. The funniest thing about the preseason last year was that giants preseason game might have been the best game plan the Patriots had all year. They ran. They ran multiple RPOs. They were in a lot of Haas. They ran a lot of their stuff, but they ran a lot of new stuff too that I thought was going to be in that playbook. All year long. And then week one came around and it all just disappeared. Well, they were thrown Isaiah zubin, Christian wilkerson. Those guys aren't on the roster. You can't run their reps. So with two games, maybe Lombardi was calling plays in that game. You know, who knows? So there you go. The two best games that they had from an offensive standpoint. All jokes aside about the preseason. Was that game in week 7 against the jets, right? They scored 50 points on the jets. And they had Johnny Smith involved in the first half before he got hurt, and they really, even though it was the jets, I get that. In terms of the actual sequencing and the plays that were actually being relayed and being called. That was the best utilization of the personnel that they had on offense all year. So if they can get back to that script in that game plan offensively, then I think they'll be fine. And if they can identify that, I think they'll be fine too. And I also think you talked about quarterbacks coaches and who's in max here and all that kind of stuff. Maybe Bill thinks he's going to have a more hands on approach with Mac. And we always knew that Bill had a big hands on approach with the quarterback to begin with. You know, he was always in the corner back here. He had those Tuesday meetings with Tom Brady. Maybe that is the plan part of the plan too is not necessarily Bill Belichick calling plays on offense or anything like that. But him just having a more hands on approach with Mac Jones and the ins and outs of Mac Jones progression in year two. Well, let's get to some questions. So there's a really interesting question in there and it kind of it's a good transition here..

"I'm already past that. To me, it's, well, who's the quarterback's coach? Who is in the meeting rooms with Matt? Who is watching Mac in solely Mac on the field at practice, working on his mechanics, things like that. Like that, to me, is now the most important job. That can't be by committee. That can't be Joe judge on Tuesday. Mick Lombardi on Wednesday, Nick Haley on Thursday, mat Patricia on Friday, right? That's got to be somebody. And maybe a toyer, maybe it is, but who is also, you know, for all we talk about lawyers are great coach. He still wants to be ready in case he gets a chance to play. He's still doing his own thing to an extent. I want somebody just working with Mac Jones. I want to know who that is and it needs to be somebody who knows what they're doing. And it needs to be the same person every day. Yeah. And before we move to Bill O'Brien, 'cause I have some thoughts on that as well. Mick Lombardi did coach quarterbacks at one point. They moved him over to wide receiver as a couple of years ago. He did coach quarterbacks for the Patriots. I want to say an 18 or 19 granted it was Tom Brady who used coaching. He's the assistant quarterbacks coach in 19. Yes. So quarterbacks at one point. So this shuffling technically could be as easy as Troy Brown getting full time at wide receivers, right? And becoming the full prime wide receiver's coach, Mick Lombardi technically being the quarterbacks coach and Joe judge remaining as an offensive assistant as the bigger picture guy in the room or even Joe judge who was a wide receiver's coach helping the other wide receivers coach right and then moving Nick Lombardi to quarterbacks. I didn't realize Mick Lombardi had that role in the 19. So yes, he's not the worst option. Again, I still think Bill O'Brien was the best option. Yeah. We can talk about Billie O'Brien. So this is interesting to me because when they fired fire, when Josh McDaniels took the job with the Raiders, they had a conversation with Bill O'Brien, Bill Brian's reps. It was put out there, Ian rappaport reporting about it Adam Schefter, the big guns coming in and saying there was mutual interest between the two parties. So at this point I think it would be pretty far fetched for Bill O'Brien to be the offensive coordinator for the Patriots. I'm not saying it's impossible, but my odds of it happening have dropped significantly from 50 50 to probably ten, 15% chance that Bill O'Brien's on this staff next year. So I want to discuss a couple of the reasons are a couple of the theories as that I have of why no billio, right? Why is Bill O'Brien not coming here? So I think the two biggest things that I can come up with are number one, Bill Belichick and Nick Saban have had an understanding that unless it's mutually beneficial unless that's really what the coach wants, they're not going to poach from each other's staffs..

"Lot of the game planning and a lot of the hands on stuff that has to go on behind the scenes on the coaching staff. Yeah, and that's concerning to me. This is where I'm more so concerned. Like I said, I don't necessarily mind Joe judge as an individual being in the building. What I'm more concerned about is what happened on defense happening on offense because the defensive side of the ball has a lot more talent than the offensive side of the ball. And look, who knows what it'll look like after the off season. But the defense in spite of everything that happened with the coaching staff was still the second ranked defense in the league. What is the offense look like if wires get crossed? The other thing is a defense you have guys like Devin McCourty like tons of Hightower who have been around who know what they're doing who are essentially like coaches on the field. The most important long-term storyline for this team is Mac Jones development. And now you're going to make that unclear. So I think the one the one thing they absolutely have to do. If they're going to go with this convoluted flow chart on offense, which I don't think they should do, but if they're going to do that, the one thing they absolutely have to do is have a defined quarterbacks coach. That role was split last year between Josh McDaniels and beaux artery. I don't necessarily it between those two guys specifically was a bad idea. I think it obviously worked back with good last year. I think you need a dedicated quarterback's coach who is not named Adam Gase on the staff. I think that is now if they're going to do short of bringing in Bill O'Brien as a defined offense coordinator, finding a dedicated incompetent quarterbacks coach to work with Mac is now priority one for the staff for the rest of the off season. I think that has to be the next step. It's a horrible setup for Mac Jones. There's no other way to put it. I think the thought process has always been for Bill Belichick. Do we have breaking news? Is that why you're not, yeah, it's not.

"Day, the Giants have fired their head coach Joe judge. And I'm trying not not. I'm very excited about this, but not because I don't like Joe judge. He's not an awful person, nothing like that. But keeping Joe judge for another year and I feel like he's just not going to work. Felt like a dead end. It felt like a wasted year next year. And the only argument I think you can make in favor of keeping Joe judge is if there's just no good candidates available to become your head coach and you're like, well, look, the last thing we want to do is hire someone we don't really want for a year within fire and then get the coach who really wants. So if there's nothing available you like, stick with Joe judge. I guess that would have made sense, but now the fire Joe judge, the general manager, Dave gettleman has been allowed to, he retired, which is very honorable, the giant, so not fire him, just let him kind of resign and retire. And I do wonder if Brian Flores becoming available, the former dolphins head coach. You know, because the story was the report was, hey, we're going to keep Joe judgment we're not going to fire him. He's our guy moving forward. So the Giants were not planning to fire Joe judge. And then I wonder if black Monday came the day that all the coaches get fired, and they were like, oh my gosh. Brian Flores is available? Let's go get him. I think that might have got the gears turning because it wasn't until Tuesday that Joe judge got fired. And, man, you look at the Giants right now. The Giants have two top ten picks. Number 5 overall pick, and the number 7 overall pick. In theory, you could trade those picks for, say, Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, or deshaun Watson, where you get a starting quarterback that's really good and maybe a higher coach like Brian Flores. Now, with Brian Flores, I love the guy. He does not coach the offensive side of the football. He has to get a good offensive coordinator. But right now, if you're a giant fan, these are very, very exciting times. Look, I thought the Giants were going to do nothing. They reported. We're going to keep the coach. We're going to keep the quarterback. We're not going to do anything. And I was like, oh, what? I felt horribly sad because.

"I hope the plan isn't just, well, it's easier to do nothing because, oh my gosh. I don't really understand. I don't know what Joe judge has done to deserve a third year in New York. But maybe they get a new GM and suddenly it's great. I don't know. But I heard the Giants were keeping Joe judge and Daniel Jones. And it went, well, again, there's a lot of job openings and there's not a lot of quarterbacks. So I don't understand it, but that's what they're doing and best of luck to them. Apparently. Number three, number three, what am I saying? Finally, the last thing I want to talk about today. Number tomorrow, noteworthy 9 ask Zach. There's one other topic. It's in my notes somewhere. Let's talk about the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching search. Apparently, first of all, I heard two names that I love. Love, love, love. In the Jaguars coaching search, apparently they are considering Jim Caldwell to be their head coach. They're also interviewing and considering Doug Peterson. Jim Caldwell. Is the last code you got the Detroit Lions to the NFL playoffs. I love him. He got unjustly fired. Doug Peterson was a guy who I thought did pretty well. One is super cool. I mean, good coach Mike McCarthy won a Super Bowl too. I'm not saying you're great suddenly if you want a Super Bowl but Doug Peterson of that got fired because the owner wanted more control and Doug Peterson didn't like that. They also the Jaguars apparently requested to interview both of the Buccaneers coordinators defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Byron leftwich as well as the cowboys coordinators. That's defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Now the guy, the name that got me excited though. When I found out that the Jaguars might hire him as their head coach. Jim Caldwell. Dude, are you? I really want to see Jim Caldwell make a return, become a head coach in the NFL..

"The one big takeaway I got from art. There is, is the players believing in Joe judge more than I had heard. I had heard that there was a little bit more. Dissention among amongst the ranks. With the New York Giants and Joe Judge. I had heard that the locker room thought this guy was kind of a bit of a clown, but but according to Art, Stapleton After the 90 man pile up that happened during training camp and running gases and back to back days of having him about their like having these guys running the heat. He said that more or less than the guys bought in to Joe Judge, I mean, we'll see that games haven't actually happened yet, and I still don't believe in Daniel Jones. But there is something you said if there's buy into the coach in his philosophy that can mean something they really can. So that's the part that I'm I didn't believe, and I felt like the Broncos could win this game just on the merits of their more talented and the Giants. Don't believe in what they're doing. But if there is a little bit of belief that could be a problem. How much do you think happened? Jason Garrett on that staff is a former head coach helped out smoothing that over smoothing things over between the players significant, You know, I really do. And it's interesting one of the other notable assistance on there. He's Freddie Kitchens who was the head coach is whatever you think of his tenure. At least he's been in that position and can kind of help relate the first time head coach Joe Judge. Hey, look, here's some things that are going on here. So you know, I I I like the Giants defense. I really do like what Patrick Graham is done with that unit. But I think the Broncos going to put it to him. I really do. And this is not, you know, Broncos. You know me. I'm not a Broncos homer at all. But like I really do feel like that. If you look at this defense and you look at the way, the Broncos matchup I think they've got too much speed for the linebacking corps. And if Teddy Bridgewater can just stay ahead of the chains, I think this could be a Broncos blowout. RK away Centura Health Text line 56690 Jeff and Carlos Springs reaching out. Jeff, We appreciate the compliment. Thank you for listening. This one says you could. Could you please ask all your listeners to say a prayer for the town of Wiley, Colorado? That's right. They had a crash out there. That left four of the teams that I think the schools out of whatever. So yeah, Thoughts are with the community Wiley, Colorado out there with, you know, with all Colorado communities. Of course we all we all come together when one of our own takes it, Uh, you know, like that. So all the people out there, Wiley? Hey, our our thoughts are with you Definitely. Absolutely so. Please feel free to hit us up on the K was inter held text line then was asking earlier. If you want to continue, and we've gotten a lot of submissions here on what were you doing? Where were you as we remember? And acknowledge what happened 20 years ago for September 11th. It's obviously going to be on the minds. We talked to Rick George earlier, the athletic director of C you and he even talked about tomorrow for the CIA buffs, Texas A and M game. There's going to be a moment of remembrance. So that's something we think is done. Everybody's mind around our country, but You know, even as we talk to Todd earlier when he called in, it was just It's something that has ever present in moments of your life. And and it marks a little bit of of a point. For so many people on win. A lot of things changed for them, whether you're directly impacted by it or not. Yeah, we kind of I think is Americans. I think we mark time by it. You know, we could have the BC 80 for the calendar. I think 9 11 is where most Americans more time for a lot of what were you before and where we after we're doing during, and I think a lot of lives and a lot of things, a lot of American culture really changed and pivoted after that moment, Um, you know, we're talking Art Stapleton. I kind of came to the realization. The players are probably gonna be a little too young. You know, for the For the moment, as far as that goes, and he's probably right, the emotional probably with coaches and in the stands and on the people watching rather than the players out there agreed and that that's something do it's It's a point to remember, because even as we were talking to grade them, he was talking. He's in fifth grade. I was like, Wow, these guys like we've we've said for a while, right that, like a lot of these players were born like I graduated high school in 98. Some of them weren't even alive at that time that are playing professional football. They were born in an era of social media. I mean, social media came along for me. You know, into my thirties. I remember life before the cell phone, you know, I mean, you know, certainly feel old in those moments, but, yes, You're right. I mean, connecting to that You may have been too young. You may You may not have that unless you were directly impacted by it Right? Just her reference. Pastor Tan was one year old when when happen, So I mean, he's obviously not going to have any memories of it. Right. So that's you know, it's just it's I don't know when I went and got old, but it certainly feels like that in this moment. So a couple of things up for the game of course, like we mentioned the pregame coverage starts at eight. A.m. on Sunday morning with Broncos warm up our guy Brandon Crystal will be on at nine..

"Regular season playing games. Now i've asked other head coaches this and they always say no but i'm thinking maybe because the division rival the answer might be yes from you but have you watched any of the dallas cowboys hard knocks this year. No i've not. I've not no You're not interested at all. Let's see what's going on in their the cowboy. Look what kind of keep up as we closer to the opponent games and stuff and kind of get abreast of. What's going on you know i. I've kinda only caught a little bit of hard knocks stuff throughout the years in during training camp a lot of times. It's you come home from work. Yeah you kind of get. You know laying in bed if you're in the hotel to house there isn't much about a half hour is kind of not a lot of times. That's hard knocks at time like that you get home. This year has been one of those years. I haven't seen any of okay. all right. very good House my man. Young joe kadduwan. Doing good he's doing is working hard working to get back on the field force right there. You know it's been unfortunate. He's had a couple of things early outside his control. Kind of help them out Some of this training camp. But i'd say the thing you know. He's done everything within his control with his effort his attitude is work ethic. And you really do anything to translate them do. And we'll be able to get him on the field a little bit. We'll share progresses throughout the week but he's the progress for us all right so Coming up against the broncos are we gonna see saquon barkley. you know. we're gonna make the decision later in the week. We're going to see him move around a couple more days his body responds to a couple of things you know. We can't the approach going into this that we weren't going to rush any decisions with him and make sure we closer to the game. We know exactly where bodies that. But he's done a really good job for every day I know he's confident he's around. Well that's definitely a positive. We got a couple of things we consider. He's taken a little bit of contact your last week. We'll put the pads on tomorrow. You know just kind of thought him up a little bit. Make sure he's good to go But don't make a decision later in the week and three other guys. Evan ingram. I would think that Young joe being one of them and kenny golladay. How about those three guys. yeah so. I'd say avenue. Obviously his you know injury coming in that last preseason game but he's made a lot of progress in short period of time spent the weekend here at the trainers and got a lot of positive. So we'll see where he is tomorrow and practice and he's moving around you know in terms of you know kenyan kt. I mean those guys you know have done some stuff on the field with us We'll see how they progress throughout the week. But there's been some positive things to build on you know we're hopefully we can get them out there. I can't see a hundred percent whether it's gonna go. Yeah you're on that But we'll see how they kinda response the rest of the week so it has missed on a lot of time. It's it's beyond. Just how they're feeling it's also the conditioning football move and being able to make sure put him on the field. We can keep on the field as well. Talking to joe. Judge on the fan and cbs sports network. What is it like for you when you get a big free agent. Acquisition like kenny golladay a draft choice and exciting player in college like young joker and then their availability. When you're trying to get your eyes on them and work them into the offense it just hasn't been there and training camp. How does that make you feel as head coach. Gregorio all the time but the reality is we gotta do the best years what we have available. And i'd say with guys like that that you know some things that were unfortunate. That held him out. Yeah my focused. On goes into the mental aspect are really keeping them up to speed and progress and when they get back they don't have a lot of catch up time and we do with these guys off the field in terms of you know situation walkers or meetings wherever we can do to keep these functioning and just going through the simulation of a practice and then through the rehab. We try to simulate what the rest of the team's doing as much as possible within what they're capable of doing so that may mirror practice on another field while the rest of us doing although all the trainers our strength staff and then when they get back you know they get back a little bit faster force and you go and so we try to make sure that you know the never fall behind mentally and physically as they catch up their work on the same techniques that they can work with the team so there's not as much transition coming back giants head coach. Joe judge joining boomer and gio here for four few more minutes. You know joe last year he didn't have preseason this year. You dead yet three games and now you have a seventeen game season and you know. I'm one of these guys Ex players that you know. I'm against seventeen game season. I think it's too long. I think that we've already had weeks. Fourteen fifteen and sixteen piece together by teams over the past ten or so years and injury seemed to be propping up more now than ever before. What is it going to be like coaching through seventeen game season. And you're right when you get back into the year. There's always simp- gymnastics in terms of managing roster and getting guys available to play the game at that point. It's our job as coaches with whatever league sets the schedule to make sure that we manage the team especially we can still building conditioning gonna make sure. The health teams are priority. But they still need the chemistry and the time on task and doing the game so it is a little bit a juggling. Act with that I think our guys responded. Well the different ways. We've mixed up the schedules in the past. You know i agree with you. It's definitely a much longer season. Just even seeing the dates on the calendar where you look past. You think okay week seventeen. That's only that's only place right there so you kind of look at the length of the season you know. Ideally you know in other week really great for the health of the players. Health of league But you know not having a second by week you know. We had this extra week from training camp. We use the best. We could kinda players moving in the season thing by week falls right about mid mid way this year so i kind a little bit of a free right. They're going at home stretch. But you know you're always saying about the health of the players being the priority so we'll have to do whatever we can throughout the season so kind individually and then collectively make sure we get the guys ready for sunday's amazing thing as you start the season we'll have you'll have four games and i mean two games in the first four game days This is not going to be an easy star for you guys Talking about a long season and having a short week to start the season both ways and talk about right is it. Is it more of an obstacle because it's a tighter turnaround from that first game. Do you look at it more having more time from game to game. Three and hockey. Use it to your advantage. So we try to prepare the guys as most we can for some tight turnarounds. Preseason how practice and building their conditioning what they've had to deal with you know everyone's gotta play thursday night game so we're no exception falls earlier. Been part of a couple of early ones before you know if you prepare for the right way. They can be a blessing And then you gotta use the time on the back end of that to get the guys fresh so you get a little bit. You know time training camp. They that three day break. You know this past weekend by league rules and coming out of the thursday game. They're gonna have three days to kind of get mentally fresh and physically. You know prepared going in that third game right there. But it's definitely all the thursday night games. It's about how you manage your team going into it and you gotta get mentally prepare without physically wearing the legs on the short turnaround. You know you wanna bcs national championships down with coach. Save anyone super bowl championships with Bill belichick up at new england and at the beginning of the season. There are some guys that really came after you pretty hard about the way that you ran practice and some of the things that you did the patriot. Way that joe judge way and you know when you read things like that and you hear some negativity coming from players of today compared to the way it was when i played or maybe even when you played those those criticisms gotta be somewhat stinging. Yes no me. The guys in the building understand why we're doing things we're very transparent with our team. We explain all the time while. We're doing things that the importance is how it's supposed to look and how it's going to benefit the team. I can't control what somebody says on the outside. You know. i can't control that at all. In terms of the way we operate things. But it's it's it's a competitive business. Okay so we're very fair to players all right. It's very competitive. We can help every player in this building. And you know our job as coaches through training camp to make sure their bodies are physically prepared for the whole season you just talk about the second seventeen game season you know. You've got to build in the football conditioning. And cows of your body to be able to sustain for seventeen weeks. And that's our job as coaches to get them going Look there's a lot of noise on the outside through say a lot of different things to me. It's important the guys on the inside understand what really doing and watch board. Hey i'm a guy on the outside it's very high on the giants and we've been talking about this now. I got you guys over. I got you winning the division so please. I'm feeling pretty confident about i. Just this just popped into. My mind is looking at this picture of you that they have on tv here. Do you have a vice like something. Like i dunno junk food cigar drinking something..

"We are waiting on giants head coach. Joe the judge. I'm coughlan with tom. Coughlin would definitely be on. He would have called nine o'clock. We've been game a little bit. Do we say nine. Ten did say no. And they've been confirmed. They said what time i said nine ten. I should've broke a little later. Then all right so we have to hit the offensive line stuff. Obviously we gotta hit the young. Joe stuff gotta hit daniel jones. I got some form. Oh do you. Yeah some good for i think. I think that i would like to start the interview because there is such is unique. And i'd like to understand how these guys can handle all this cove. It's covert stuff. Well it's it's unique this year because if you remember i don't i'll just wait on eskimo all right fine i just wanna make sure all right so here. He is giants football coach. Yes joe judge joins us on the fan and coach on cbs. Sports et al. Did you call them coach. When you picked up the phone. I just told the eddie. I made such a horrible mistake. He called in. I was thrown off. Because i thought pat hanlin would call in i. Yeah and he said this is joe. J. i go. Hey joe and then i go hang on buddy and then i put him on hold. I was like oh. My god terrible just do you are older than them significantly. So i think you've been around your job. I've never heard anybody doing the callers. It's very embarrassing. Apologies coach. Have you ever been called buddy in the last couple of years. You know a bunch of times a bunch of times good friends. He gives me now just friendship to new level because then our buddy what's worse buddy or big guy. I think. I think he's getting into the big guy. Sport type category. I mean you know butt buddies buddies kinda borderline right there but you know you kind of getting some of the things big guys champs sports stuff like that. It's kind of like yeah. Don't go their territory. Hang on sport. That really got a great coach. Great to talk to you man. I wanted to start by going through these covert rules and everything that you guys gotta deal with. And the reason. I i wanna do. That is because last year was year all into itself and everybody was essentially under the same rules. Now you have different roles you have unvaccinated guys. You are vaccinated guys. I'm not sure where you're vaccination levels are with the giants but how much of a difference is it from last year to this year. Given the fact that you have two sets of rules now. Let's say it's definitely a lot different last year. And while there's a lot more flexibility and kind of you'd say some looseness with the vaccinated guys. I think we still gotta respect all the guys who chose not to get the vaccine and your message team was right away just that. Hey look everybody has a choice but if you choose not to vaccinate awfully protocols you have to follow and everything we have to do even accordance those we're gonna do and i'd say this really proud of the team. I mean whether vaccinate earned vaccinate the entire camp up. The you know up to this morning we haven't had a single incident within had. We not had single meeting of reminding anybody about what to do. We stay on it. We talked to the team. Obviously we address the cowboys situation with our players yesterday. Just remind everybody that you know. You've gotta respect space. And a big part of the protocols gambaccini players are you know social spacing out you know everyone was tracers. The nfl's always you know. Kind of auditing the tracers and kind of seeing what the contact level is and when somebody pops a positive the first thing they do is they check tracy who's been connected to it so you know if it's a situation where somebody's vaccinated and pops posited you know if you're in close contact with them but you're vaccinated. It doesn't really affect you at that moment. Okay you're not gonna miss any time you have to quarantine according to the current rules but if you're unvaccinated and you papa you know close contact you're going to be removed and you've got to go just like last year quarantine removed from the stadium. And it's gonna cost you really upwards of two weeks so it's kinda they're living in twenty twenty rules and then everyone was kind of living twenty twenty one to get back. Stated is a difference Would you gotta make sure that everyone understands. You know what their current status is and how they have to be. But you know they've done a really good job of it I think the one thing that the protocols is they're always evolving. I mean it's a daily basis. We get some kind of from the league. I'm to the point with our medical staff and trainers as i just said look. I don't have time to go through every one of these memos away every day you guys come up and you know. Get media information on what i got on the t. mobile which changed and they've done a great job keeping me you know in the loop and let me know what have to communicate. Yeah you gotta really trust your guys especially the medical side of the business. But i would also say you know in. This is a hypothetical. Can you see an nfl team having to forfeit a game. This year i hope not. I mean i think you have to understand that i mean look. We got their an entire season. Last year Well having to lose a game. I don't know if moving games as much of a A reality that your your fans in the stands. It's a lot more difficult to go ahead and up and move it game on short notice that happened last year. You know possibilities obviously there. I think everyone's gonna work to go ahead and eliminate that and watch do whatever you have to explain. Our players said that look you know. There's eleven healthy people. they're gonna play a game. You're gonna play you know all three phases of the game was just gonna base. We'd be careful. Whatever comes our way. So i'm gonna giants head coach. Joe judge on boomerang. Go on the fan and cbs. Sports network. Do you listen to a lot of sports talk coach. You know what I did growing up all the time riding in the school riding into the work. A couple of jobs you know delivering stuff always had it on you. Know in recent years to be honest with you Most of my office day. Get some music in the background but most days Pretty solid watching tape. If i were you. I wouldn't be listening to sports. Head coach giants detrimental. The reason i ask is for whatever reason the last couple of years we get a lot of phone calls about the giants offensive line and it has driven our producer absolutely crazy. He can't take it anymore. Every giants buddy. That's right new buddy dukes bay but So and now we're hearing some things some rumblings and your some of the reporting out there that's zim offensive line issues some anxiety starting to build here because we can't take anymore. The giants offensive lines thinks phone calls so from the horse's mouth. How would you assess the twenty twenty one giants offensive line as you guys are heading into week one. Look obviously we gotta be a ever-evolving product and whenever araj so look what. I'm concentrating wisconsin improvement. Seen these guys get better every day. I've seen that you're training camp Obviously we're not perfect. We had a lot of things we have to work on as a team and a proud away. The guys work. It's taking into the process. We've got a great challenge this week. But the broncos come in these guys are top defense late and they can get after the passer and they do a great job stopping the run as well so we gotta make sure that we have our game this week. So we're working continuously through this week. Prepare the players and make sure they come in ready to go on sunday. Then put their best out there on the field and we're gonna need it against the broncos because it kind of defense they are. How do you feel about that. Answer out of nervous. I get a lot of phone calls out. But i think the offense lawns could be a lot better because i young quarterbacks can be a lot better. Have you seen the growth that you expected to see from daniel jones heading into year three now. Yeah you know what a lot of growth he did. A terrific job and y'all seasonably was the leadership and how to get in the guy's going good direction you know really the ownership. On the line of scrimmage and the understanding community offensively you know carried over from the spring training camp ten practice right now and seeing what the presents them understanding what. The opponent is are seeing weakness in certain situations to protect themselves getting the best play. You know play to our strengths. He's done a really good job so far that and you know what said to see him get out. They're excited to get some of our guys back. Depend on how it happens some guys. We haven't had much training camp so we'll see how that works throughout the rest of the week but excited.

"Available of sudden cow rudolph's available. So you you you know you had a buddy taught. You're saying you don't lock your knees okay. So it's it's you you you just sit there and you know you talk to people you make phone calls you watch film as this guy available. Hey would you consider moving that guy. Hell no yeah. I would you know for this and you have those conversations you. It's it's it's. It's a chess. Finally we know that the giants off today are as we said. Earlier heading to ohio for joint practices on thursday and friday with the cleveland browns. They'll head to new england next week. Where joe judge and bill belichick. Who obviously. I used to coach together with judge. As an assistant coach for belichick will team up for joint practices in new england prior to the third preseason game between the giants and the patriots. So let's hear from joe judge about his expectations and goes into planning for joint practices. the joint practices. How important is it for you. The fans ski and even your stabs and then obviously next week with bill to just kind of set up the situation the way you want to have the control of what you're gonna see out there and the trust factor that you guys are kind of both working together rather than against children to me. The trust factor huge which is part of the reason you know early on having talked way back in the off season about the possibility of doing this. You know part of this relationship and our experience together and that helps because then you can work together when you go to these practices you wanna be with you have relationship with because then you can work together and make sure hey. What do you need to see. What do we need to see. Let's work the make sure we all accomplish that. We've talked. continuously throughout these last. Few weeks makes your practice snapped out. You know for both men him. We'll wait and see our teams out practice today and touch base with finalize. Any- plans going forward with you. Know whether it's kevin or bill or other places. I've been with the guys who worked at. Its it's very important in these practices. The have relationship and the players have to understand going. And it's going to be competitive. That's nature football right. It's another team. It's going to be competitive but just like out here. We don't want to get out there and make it something that's not football. Go out there and work against each other. And keep between the lines between the whistles. Make sure we play hard. We protect ourselves. Maybe play but we're also working with the other team as well giants fans..

"Judson within look at history. Who are the coaches that he has worked under bill. Belichick nick sabin to the greatest winners that we've ever seen. Both coaches are also processed driven as opposed to result oriented though. He tried to get the guys to understand the process of winning games and that takes place on the practice pill because if they matthew those things that don't beat ourselves they're going to win a lot of games the new york. They're not sounds great bucky. But here's the problem. Can outside of nobel. Check and nick serianni. Joe judge used references. I don't think. Joe judge got the job all man. Y'all know how it is when you go to a job that you are not necessarily qualified for but usually at the top though. Ask you for your references because they want to call and make sure that the places in you've previously worked you've done a good job at if you listen big-time names probably got the job. Which judge did he listed. Bill belichick listed. Nick sabin but buck you notice better than i make. Savings and bill belichick rather their assistants. Haven't fared all that. Well matt patricia. Their assistance haven't fared all that well. Eric mangini their assistant have not fared all that. Well so i just. I'm not out on. Joe judge but we know so microwave society. Joe judge i think did well for the giants last year. Six and ten. That's well but the division was for the taking. If somebody would've told you dak prescott would get hurt carson. Wentz would get bench. You'd probably be owes that. I'll take this one not only that that would get hurt whence would get benched. Alex smith would get hurt. The jones would get cut out not. Don't dwayne haskins would get cut your the giants for the taking and they did not take that so bucky. We know it's a short lived. Stint for coaches and joe judge already living in a microwave society. Doing things atypically. I just don't know that. He has incredibly long runway. What i like about giant. And here's what i think. Joe judge understand about new york and how they win championships in new york with the giant bill. Parcell to or no diciplinarian. Tom coughlin talk or no disciplinarian. Those coaches reflect the city and they're player bought into those methods started best her. You can afford off all of these dismal offensive. Statistics deadly team had a season to go. They won six games. Because the defense balled out and one of the reasons. Why the defense ball out. Because they didn't beat themselves several category and they played hard. But i think the telltale sign when we talk about the giants whether the players saying when i read the quote coming out of that locker room amen. We're not built everybody. Everybody can't play here. New york is tough. You have to be tough minded individual thing to be successful here and so kelvin. Benjamin who with asked to come in to fifty one but showed up at two sixty eight. He didn't want to do the things that they were asking them to do. Some of those other guys decided to go away. Hey baby was too tough for them in new york. I'm not gonna paul joe for his program his way because the guys in the locker room certainly appreciate and respect what he's doing so he does have some trust and some great communication field with the theme because they're buying in. That's all you can ask for a man and this will storytime bookie brought me somewhere. I gotta out air to. Oh man larry's involving marty schottenheimer rest in peace coast. Well let's start off with gioja once again in art show komo out show says we live in a microwave. Society doesn't mean you always have to use your microwave. Brother oven baked ham of one at that. I take about our to come out ready. And that's joe johns. He needs a little brother. He going to come out ready visit to this line. The giants haven't finished higher in division since they won the super bowl in two thousand and eleven that that's thinking last year. This team was second in that division. They have not finished better. That division even had a better record since the super bowl win two thousand eleven to the last three years before. Gioja got there. You saw the point differential for this team minus one ten or worse it was cut in half near seventy seven minus seventy seven trending in the right direction as book. He said. i'll tell you. Have this love. Hate relationship with josiah's because boy you didn't like him at first but you walked up to him be real quick but end of the season. It felt like you had law form. Whatever played any games so still love the mayor right now. We'll see what happens going for my last point. Is this story. I got to tell you about kelvin. Benjamin it's supposed to come in at two fifty one and came in to sixty eight data. Boston yeah remember him. You're maybe had a little help with that job. I don't know i'll know but he caught. What yoked up. And i remember mark hammer said david first day of training camp. He came out dog. His ours were so big. He's little tie-up sonum little iran bro for real and mardi said. Come here david. In front of the whole team martin. How much you weigh right now. He said i'll know coats here. Ray contacts and had lightning bolts in them. Is our no coats. Say go back in there. Come back out and tell us how much weight he came back with. Muscles two hundred and seven deep. You can't play that position being bigger than the delima like boorda probably beck respect. Grace coming up. Kevin durant won his third olympic gold medal and then proceeded to tell anyone who doubted team. Usa why they were wrong. I'll tell you if we like katie's level pity next. Don't speak for yourself and three percent body. Everybody who said we wanna take. That has a pirate behind slow man. They catching up to us. Are you serious. This skill is unmatched puke. Like kevin durant call now. His critics like you have to win the gold medal. Not like it. But i don't like it. Because kevin durant is right and his critics are also right the two things can coexist but critics criticized based upon what they saw the men's basketball team loss to nigeria men's basketball team loss to australia from not mistaking that is worthy of criticism. If you are that much more talented than the opponents than you should not lose to the opponents and in all honesty when you win. It should not be close. In the state of texas marcellus there are classifications of football depending upon the size of the public school. One two three four five. Am now even six a if you play at a six. A school of school of the likes of where cuyler murray went to high school allen high school in texas. You should not lose to a eighteen simply because you have greater numbers unless you should have greater talent and if you beat a to eighteen should we really be bragging about it or white a six say school with that being said kevin durant talk. Oh don't be mad at it. Critics are right at the end of the day. France who you beat in the final game of the population of sixty seven million. I would hope that the united states has better. Australia saw them early. Ron have a population of twenty five million. You could add up. The aggregate populations of france. Australia spain the czech republic the teams that the united states faced in route to winning gold medal and the united states has more people than all of those countries combined. So yes kudos to the us. Men's team for winning that gold medal. A well-deserved gold medal. But let's not act like the critics. Were not.
Zach Fulton Becomes Third Giants Player to Retire This Week
"Are experience experiencing a rash of retirements. Another player has decided. You know what? Uh, this whole giants way of doing things isn't for me. So Zach Fulton Is the third Giants player. To retire this week. Three guys in four days, Steve Now. Fulton apparently was family and health related. And that's according to Joe judge the head coach when he was asked about it. But you're talking Fulton. Todd Davis, Joe Looney. And Kelvin Benjamin. Guys who have all Hung it up and said, Yeah, I'm good.
Wild Giants Brawl Involving Daniel Jones Causes Joe Judge to Explode
"You see this thread. That ralph fach. Yano had about giants practice today. Greg what is going on over there and like joe. J- judge it's makes these guys run sprints like he's her brooks like. I've never seen anything like it. I am amazed by that. He made them run sprints after an all out on the field and not just a fight. 'cause you know those. Those happened almost all training camps. Some some coaches have it pretty locked down where you really are aren't allowed to do it But that happens but this one supposedly had like twenty people in it and daniel jones. Your quarterback is is at the bottom and then yeah you're punishing them by by running around the field like it's a fine line where whether you're gonna keep your players Engaged with that kind of attitude this joke judge and it looks like a team you know when when that does happen that he doesn't have a so go to the amount of control and that's what he's looking for.
Kyle Rudolph signs with Giants
"How. 'bout kyle rudolph chris. I mean i thought that was a terrific signing but now it's not a say no some saying it's sort of similar to this although the giants have not did not get caught yet signing player that now might need surgery as they did some some looking to medical. Know how you know how it is when they were. They doing it to hurt. Don't go actually. I actually saw it as as a quality. Signing what do you think happens there with. Kyle rudolph and the giants depends on. How comfortable rodney barnes and the rest of the giants. Medical staff is with his foot and if they get to a place where the player in the team can be on the same page moving forward then. I think it makes sense. I love the idea of karl. Rudolf part of that offense and having tight end set because that allows ingram to do more of the things to them being detached from the formation being more of a slot receiver than an inline end. And karl rudolph can be that guy. That's in the middle of the field reliable target big body guy. He can also help you capture the edge in the run game. Those are things that joe judge is interested in that position. So i like the idea of car rudolf. But it's got to be healthy if he's not healthy than million dollars. A year is a lot for player of his era.

"Been making mistakes all she has been really frustrating and the thing that Eagles do not know the unknown commodity here is Jalen hurts. We need to see how good Jalen hurts is that's how they need to feel and people keep saying you can't bench Carson Wentz you're paying him too much money. I mean people literally been saying the Eagles cannot afford to move on from Carson Wentz. He makes too much money and I'll tell you what here's why you're wrong about that. You ever heard of the name Frank Reich Frank Reich is the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts guess where he was before he was a head coach of the Colts. He was the offensive coordinator. He worked very closely with Carson Wentz in his best year ever in 2017. And that long Super Bowl Super Bowl run where before he got hurt Carson Wentz probably walk on the NFL MVP prior to that injury. And so if the Eagles really are afraid of being stuck with a Carson Wentz contract, I would almost guarantee you nothing else. I am sure the Colts would be happy to take that contract take Carson Wentz the coaches worked with him before. I think that Carson Wentz that have a much better career in Indianapolis and you would right now in Philadelphia you'd have the coach. He's familiar with a better roster around him. We know Carson Wentz is not showing the ability to make good decisions and be patient with the football when there's not a lot of talent around to me needs Talent around him because otherwise he plays hero ball and make bath pros and bad decisions. It's ugly. And I am telling you do not be afraid of trying to move Carson Wentz if if nothing else I am sure that the Colts would make the trade will take Carson Wentz and his contract if nothing else for a seventh-round pick. I'm telling you don't act like the eagles could not move Carson Wentz that's got some possible. There's a lot of teams around the NFL that would be happy to take his talent. This topic is not about Carson Wentz wage really what needs to be figured out is how good is Jalen hurts if Jalen hurts is the truth and he's a really good quarterback doesn't matter how good Carson Wentz is cuz you found it cheaper better more accurate more consistent option then Carson Wentz. So again, it's a terrible weird thing to say that the Eagles are stuck with Carson Wentz. It's just not true and it's also been a terrible year. It's been awful. That's why the eagles need to figure out how good is Jalen hurts because they need to figure out how good he is to make a decision whether they move on from Carson Wentz or not. And so I think it's a great move for the Eagles to be starting Jaylen home. Next week. I heard that. I went Hallelujah. I'm so happy. I am cannot wait to keep watching more of Jalen hurts. I'm a big believer in him. He's really more active than people realize and make a lot of people. When Jalen hurts was in college in Alabama, he was a liability throwing a football. I acknowledge that people people's to this day go. He can't throw the football is never good and they hold Jalen hurts passing against him. Well after being benched at Alabama Jalen had a year sitting behind to a chunk of aloe at Alabama sitting learning working on his mechanics getting more accurate learning at to grow as a passage there..

"It's probably blocked, you know, a little bit in the system. He had Matt Patricia ahead of them and really couldn't get that next promotion to defensive coordinator until Patricia left. But for is when he was just a linebacker's goes. The Cardinals gave him a head coaching interview a couple years ago, and that was Is a little bit out of the blue and you heard from the interviews, the Cardinals were blown away and that they viewed floor as a future star. But they just didn't think you was ready yet. So you figured, OK, Well, you know, maybe a few years from now will be a serious candidate. Then the very next year, The Dolphins hired him and he's been fantastic. You know, Ever since he had a rough start last year, But then they finished five and four. And then they've won eight of 10 here and the Dolphins. You know, Flores has built a great program there and same with Joe Judge. He's someone who was you know the special teams coordinator for awhile in New England, and he's a young guy. I mean, he's my age late thirties. And when the Giants requested interview him last year is the same thing. Well, he just getting experience and, you know, he'll probably be ready in a few years. And then Lo and behold, the Giants, you know, went off the board and they hired Joe Judge despite maybe not having The most experienced resume. But you know, he's a guy who he's got two of the best mentors, Bill ballot check and Nick Saving at Alabama. Two guys that he's worked for. And another guy that you know, maybe isn't the players best friend but is really instilling a lot of discipline. In building culture there in New York, and these are two of the hottest teams right now. They're too smart, tough football teams. They don't make mistakes. They don't They don't hurt themselves on. I think you might finally be seeing two guys. You can break the curse. Bill Belichick's coaching tree. Obviously, Bill Belichick's coaches have not had the most success on their own His head coaches, but Joe Judge and and Brian Floors are doing a great job so far. Ben Volin covers the NFL for the Boston Globe. Speaking of Joe Judge, it is remarkably rare is, you know to be special teams coordinator in your late thirties and get a head coaching job in the NFL..

San Francisco 49ers complain about 'sticky' turf at MetLife Stadium after injuries pile up vs. New York Jets
"Explained to me about the playing surface at metlife stadium with the jets giants, and what is the biggest concern what happened during the forty niners jets game on Sunday a lot of lower leg injuries. Some season ending injuries including one suffered by nick boasts of the forty niners defensive and I think that really changes that team dramatically to not have him. The complaints began to come from individual 49ers players saying that there's something wrong with turf that their foot gets stuck in the turf and I started to poke around the giants and the steelers played their six days earlier they had no issues with the turf. From the jets, the response was we were too busy getting our faces kicked into notice anything wrong with the turf but the forty niners had the issue they had the complaint. The League's position is these fields certified they're certified by an independent inspector they're certified by the teams well to me. That's good enough to, and because we've seen plenty of crappy fields. That have been certified certified as being suitable for play. Remember the Fedex fields shows the day they had to paint the Dirt Green for a playoff game, the game where Robert Griffin two thirds a finally went. So I I don't accept that as being positive in the NFL PA has echoed the forty niners concerns that maybe we should take a look at this. What's the harm in reconfirming that everything is fine with this playing? Surface it feels like something more than just sour grapes by the forty niners. There are enough guys complaining about it to to at least raise the question of why not take a closer look and make sure there's nothing wrong with this new playing surface. But what can you do? Can the niners refused to play the giants this weekend? That's what makes it so fascinating usually, what happens is the road team if they have a Problem with the field or not coming back for the rest of the year, they may not be coming back for eight years. If it's an interconference game here, they are seven days later back on the same field and the giants have come out strong JOE judge. Head coach said, we practice throughout training camp. We have no issues at all with this and I don't think the NFL going to get any relief I. Mean we've. Seen in the past where we're field has gotten so bad a teams had to tear it and replace it at New England at one point they had to get rid of the grass and put down field turf but I don't think that's going to happen. I. Think the forty niners will just going to have to deal with it and I don't think the NFL is going to concede that there was an issue with the turf. And they're going to go forward and we'll see what the forty niners players have to say after playing there again, this weekend,
Breaking Down the New York Giants Initial Practice Squad
"Other thing going on with the giants roster is the shaping of their practice squad. We're not gonNA project who we think is going to be on the practice squad because as were recording it, we should receive some type of news by the end of the day Sunday, who is on the practice squad for some reason? You probably noticing this to the giants have been taking their time. To the fullest extreme to put in all this information, their fifty three man roster I think was announced. Ten or fifteen minutes after the required four o'clock deadline. Meanwhile, every other team had already gotten their stuff in before that chalk that up to Dave gettleman and Joe Judge trying to take their time in re be very detailed with it. They also this is official that we already talked about some of the claims but they have claimed offense tackle Jackson, Barton, wide receiver, Damian Rally, and then also safety Adrian Colbert they could either end up on the roster or be pushed to the practice squad. But the one thing that's worth noting and we're GONNA talk about the practice once official on another episode but it's worth noting that this season the practice squad is very. Very unique. It's bigger than it typically is and teams are going to be using it as a shuffling group that if someone gets sick, they can send them home quickly, sign them to come play right away they're gonNA travel. I would bet with most of if not all of these guys and have the bill availability to sign them immediately in the case of an emergency yet honestly to for me, that's kind of a step closer to what the practice squad should be anyway I I've never really liked the practice squad the way it has been where it's limited the guys who can be on it are very limited in the amount experience they can have and. They're really not protected at all. So any team can basically swipe a player off any other teams practice squad on very little notice. and. To me I I really do like these changes to the practice squad rules. The fact that it's bigger that the teams can keep more players around they don't have quite the same constraints on. Experience that we've seen in years past and the fact that they can promote guys from the practice squad to the active roster on basically ninety minutes notice. So I really like the flexibility that that gives teams and I'm sure we're going to be seeing teams take advantage of that this year probably in ways that the NFL isn't exactly planning on. And I wouldn't be surprised if there are certain aspects of this short-term practice squad for this season that are maybe tried to be translated into next year or come next CBS negotiation asked for by the players. So more players can stick around and be retained by their various teams it. It is a lot better like you said, Chris compared to way the way. That they've done it previously, it's better to have more guys if you can carry as many guys as they are allowed to this

Browns Make It Official
"We will start with the official news out of Cleveland Scavenge to ban skis hired by the browns. They announce officially on Monday. He's thirty seven. Spent fourteen seasons as an assistant in Minnesota but has never been a head coach at any level level his entire. NFL coaching career. As I mentioned has been with one organization the Minnesota Vikings Stansky took over play calling duties on offense late in the two thousand eighteen season. Minnesota ran the ball. Forty seven percent of the time with Danske asked the play caller. That's the second highest rate in that span trailing only the Baltimore Ravens was introduced at a press conference just a little while ago. I the foremost success starts with people and I know we'll talk a lot about culture but it is absolutely about the people and everybody knows the Harry Truman quote. It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one cares who gets. That's the credit and that's what I believe. We have in our building. We have great people. I know we're going to add to it will hire G. G. M. here in the next week can or two and we're going to add to this culture that that we're building here and we have the right people and again. I can't stress enough. How excited I am the be? Just a part of did you know to use a basketball terms to my dad can understand this. I want to be the point guard for this organization. I want to bring the ball up then I wanNA share the basketball and let so what else get an easy bucket though smiling over there. WE'RE NOT GONNA I'M NOT GONNA speak anything into existence right now I can. I promise you that we're GONNA work. I've already spoken to a few of our players already. And that's what I'm about I'm about working and I'm about putting a foundation together the other. We will be methodical about it. We will not skip. Step two two and three to get to four. We're GONNA start in the foundation and then we're going to reinforce foundation Shen said we can build upon it and when I'm talking about this I'm talking about schemes and technique will be diligent about working with our players so that they can develop into the the best versions of themselves and ultimately we're building a foundation for what we hope is a championship. Effort will have a culture of accountability. We'll have structures is in place the players will understand our rules. And what we're about and we're going to demanding and we're going to hold each player accountable. Because ultimately I know this about players they they May Not come out and ask you for that. But that's what they want. Well perhaps the tenth. TIME IS THE CHARM IN CLEVELAND. Stansky is the tenth full time head coach Wjr. The browns have hired since returning to the League in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine that is the most in the league over that span of the previous nine. None have posted a winning record. Heard and not a single one has lasted more than four seasons continuity and consistency has been a real issue in Cleveland. Victor certainly something they'd like to you see changes to fanciest step in the right direction. In your opinion will I believe he is and I think that consistency where it is important. And right because you put up that list of all the coaches and the coaches that they've they've pretty much funneled through throughout the years can you provide that level of stability that they've been seeking for almost a year in and year out. Can you provide that for their now. The thing I do like about Stansky a fan ski is that he has experience with creating plays for two star receivers and I think that's something that's going to have to translate over to the Cleveland. Browns obviously with Odell Beckham junior junior and Jarvis Landry and having that experience I'm sure enticed of that for an office inside bring him in and understanding that they got to get the best out of these players in the best out of all their play makers obviously nick included In the backfield now is he going to be a leader of men and he is he going to be able to handle. The Eagles and the different personalities is that are in that locker room. Desk the biggest question that still remains to be seen. It's defense gas interviewed with the browns. Before in fact it's believed that he was the first source of politics but Desta several seasons ago and and it didn't work out. Matt you spent time with him as part of that Minnesota Vikings Organization. What can you tell us right? He he was a young quarterback coach at the time. And so when I got there was actually a little bit older than he was which is an interesting dynamic but at the same time. He's been all around that building. You know he's an administrative assistant and when he started there then. He was a quarterback coach. He's I've been with the running backs he's been with the wide receivers so he's been in all the different elements of the offensive side of the ball. He's seen the ups and downs. He's seen how free agency can impact so he's got a great feel feel. He's a great leader. He's got a presence about himself in the other thing that I think that the Cleveland browns are probably drawn to is the simple fact that this is a very quarterback friendly offensive structure that he's presented presented in for a guy like Baker Mayfield that had had his struggles last year. And maybe some confidence issues. Maybe not though. Let's see the press conference the same time. It's a quarterback friendly. There's a lot of play action. There's a lot of movement of the pockets. A Lotta easy throws to be made screen. And then there's like you said that balance forty seven percent percent of the time the run the ball. There's great balance in that offensive structure in for a young quarterback and going into his third year after some struggles. I think this is a great fit for that organization Asian and going back to when they actually made this higher People in Cleveland were telling me that it was actually his run game because we see what he was able to do with Dowling Cook and how he was able to make become a good player to really a great one and he's a central part of that offense that we now see in Minnesota and that was a big part of it but in terms of now Cleveland going forward looking for GM the way it was explained to me is they really want these to head coach and gm to work as one. This is why they moved on. From John Dorsey Percy and Freddie Kitchens. They didn't feel like this was working together. So they're looking for someone who has the same vision and the analytics department obviously is of of crucial part of Cleveland. And what they're looking for a head coach and I think that's why Stefanski became that lead candidate because he's accepting of it. He wants to be part of that and You know I think I saw some reports out there about how Cleveland is demanding that their head coach presents the game plan to ownership and really the way it was explained to me. It's not so much that they want to see the game plan. They just want everyone to be in sync to go over to make sure they're all on the same page headed into the game. Well you can't blame him and and that is something that clearly was not the case. I think you make a great point. It's poor in that somebody come in and be able to work and mold Baker Mayfield but also be able to be the CEO and run this whole organization and have everybody else be accountable. I think Freddie Kitchens might have had one of those two things that went by the wayside outside the quarterback with the hiring in Cleveland. What it does mean? Is that every chair on the head. Coaching carousel is now accounted for. The browns were the fifth and final team to hire a new head coach in the off season. Three of the hires tires Stefanski as we just discussed Joe Judge with the giants and Matt Raw and Carolina our first time. NFL head coaches the other two quite the contrary contrary Mike McCarthy in Dallas Ron Rivera in Washington they will get a second chance or in some cases third or fourth various established. NFL head coaches of of all the five. Who Intrigues you? The most in their new spot intrigues me is Matt Rule. I WanNa see what really transpires here right. He seven years sixty million dollar contract. That's a big commitment big commitment. I mean we might need to think about going into coach. That's it has everything else that they're also saying that they're making a commitment to Cam Newton with the type of style and the offensive structured. That they've set up McCaffrey's there I mean they've got the pieces of the puzzle there now. It's interesting to see how that that offensive structure from college translates to the NFL. which is I mean? There's been guys like chip Kelly in the past right John Harbaugh's price guy. That's been the most successful but that was more of a pro style offense with the most the most recent Kingsbury in Arizona so cliff Kingsbury. Excuse me it's been a mixed bag. There's no question. Let me ask you this just circling back to something you said by hiring Matt rule it you believe this means a commitment to Cam Newton. Can you explain why why I just think that The Baylor and watching their offense of structure and the RPO that takes place that's run pass options and all the different things that they're well versed in and that the Baylor offense has been historically historically very successful with in terms of that offense of structure I just think that that Fits Cam Newton's game very well and so I believe that that's a statement saying look. We wanted to bring somebody in here that you're going to be comfortable in this type of offense of structure and go out and be able to put yourself in a position to have success extent to intrigue you for me. Is Joe Judge my beloved giants. I think well I just think because going into it. Once I saw the Vacancy Happen at the head coaching position I was all right. The giants are GonNa come in here and get either like a Ron Rivera type or even McCarthy and get a guy that will come in and commanding presence. Once he walks into the building and I think with the hiring of Joe Judge just left me like okay I. It felt like the same cycle almost felt like coach mcadoo a couple years ago when you give a guy a shot and bring him in if he can transcend The coaching position or the year. After that when you bring in Pat Shurmur and you try to bring take a chance on another guy. Felt like we're taking another chance on another guy but granted. I must say I loved after the press conference I loved his mannerisms I love. He literally embodied what the New York Giants Football Organization is all about when he stepped up there on that podium Liam so I say that with a grain of salt because I love the press conference and I think he's going to bring something different than the other two coaches did in the past. But I still left me scratching my head in terms of who was out there here in the type of guys that could've came in that building and commanded a present these guys by the way Matt Rule and Gioja Geno. It's not about winning the press coverage but they did rule who was must see TV. I was just watching. He's missing time with the giants. Who so I knew all about? He's got does I think you know obviously recruiting such a big part of being a head coach in college. You don't mean to recruit You know when you're in the NFL. Which is why? I'm an agreement with you. I think that is the most enticing match COPA or at least the situation of the coaches just because you just look at history and making that jump from college the NFL. It's not easy and there just hasn't been a high success rate there. I think obviously he spent a little time with a giant. So it's not like he's
Giants Introduce ‘Old School’ New Head Coach Joe Judge
"Joe Judge is the new head head coach. He would call himself the new head football coach for the New York giants. He would actually call himself all right. "York giants introducing a new head coach Joe judge most recently bill Belichick's special teams coordinator who's also worked on Nick saving staff at Alabama having won five titles combined with both teams judge on what he learned from both those iconic coaches it's important to address everybody not only on the what they have to do but how it should look what we're gonna do to get there and why it's important and what you find out when you're coaching players they're not robots and they understand what the end result supposed to look like and why it's important normally those players on take the principles are you instilled in him and in the game make a player's adjustment and you're gonna learn more from the players in there as a coach because they're gonna find a better way to do it in the heat of the moment with a certain adjustment be flexible within your personal don't try to shove round pegs in the square holes figure out what you have what the player their strengths don't set a meeting and tell me what you don't have an a player don't tell me they can't do a certain thing tell me what they can do and then we'll figure out as coaches because that's our job how we can use that Jordan run on covers the giants for ESPN on a would judge will take from his experience in Foxboro Joe judge said he's gonna be himself and I was actually bill Belichick's advice to him but let's be honest you sit there and listen to him he's talking about he doesn't want to hear from coaches during meetings what a player can't do he wants to hear what a player can do he said one game they might run the ball thirty times the next game they might pass the ball thirty forty times so you never know it's gonna be constant changes and when you sit there and listen to that it almost sounds like bill Belichick and don't think for a second we are John marriage talk afterwards he also mentioned look the fact that he worked for a decade plus for Nick saving about sex that played a part in inspiring yeah he no doubt during the press conference he mention the fact that he's taken from bold but he is is own man judge also shared this on giants fans can expect from this team I what I'm about is an old school physical mentality okay or to put a product on the field that the people of this city or region be proud of because this team will represent this

at two PM press to right here on the fans who want to be locked in all day for that buddy sort of there as impressive as a candidate as I have interviewed you you looking also left out you know in the last couple years and not only that magna doodle Pat Shurmur this year you don't even know that the guys you want to do with Gary Matt rule of course it's gonna be impressive it was a short list that is better than Krister shard I mean come on as impressive as a candidate I didn't interview again I mean similar quotes a couple years ago when they were hiring Pat Shurmur we interviewed so this is a quote from two years ago we interviewed six talented and qualified candidates we feel like Pat with his vision and experience is the right person to lead our team in the giants we do not trust eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six and rightfully so over the last several years Brad is in no for what's up right well hello there shower kataku their bread it's a pleasure talk to you as well I would like to speak about dying if you don't mind George yours well I've been a giants fan since like nineteen eighty four I was born in seventy seven okay we we don't need to rehash all that but just get your giants point I get your big giants fan you're logged on I'm sick and tired of these freaking giants fans good and mad about the coaches and they don't know what the coach is going to do this and you can't make chicken salad without chicken you know what I mean I'm not as my mom about Alan are your mom makes good chicken salad yeah she does a matter of fact thanks for the thing plays out here nobody knows about Georgia now we do know about the giants weekend talk about the moves that they made the last couple years that's why they're in the position they are now I mean they've been a mess for years here since moving on from call for you could maybe go back even a little further since taking Gilbride off the staff of Tom Coughlin that was the first domino that is set this thing the wrong way eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six hectares in Washington Heights what's up actor Hey Sidle but good men are you not bad not bad at all you don't lose media creation of that was really the number one choice and it was the number one because I don't think the mistake was going out after he supposedly contacted them and said I got this all for the mistake was not being the first also talked it if that's your number one choice there we should have been the first one is because no matter where he was you don't speak to anyone before you talk to us yeah well I mean if it's not Matt rule who is their first choice I I think so I really don't know bye week although I can go by is both by with the recall do you think it's you think it's Joe judge and we're in the same boat I don't know either but I mean we're going based on the reports but let's say common sense do you think it was Joe judge I would be insane to say that right the house look stupid ever said that to me as a friend right all I can do is offer the guy down I'm determined to be successful but what it does to me like everyone has a bad relationship with the media maybe with a friend Donald the yet part is when we will make you want to come up to get about that I mean gentleman is not been accessible to the media forget about any issues you may have had with mine so I think I think the way the media may be holding against them so I don't think we'll let alone what they would have done let me ask you something let me add something because I I know what you're saying about the media routing again some I don't think that's the case but let's just let's just look at what the gentleman is done with his track record did he properly evaluate the team that he took over meaning he all he thought to see me at heritage was a team that can win now with you I manning right properly evaluate better now I'll be honest to sell I will I'm not a WGC like many friend but I have to wait a couple of weeks I would favor the back wall but it's also not your job actor and thanks for the call we love hearing from is also not your job to your fan you're gonna be hopeful to me after what I saw all the eleven and five year I will be eleven and five year was the aberration and the team that followed up to one fourteen that was the more realistic team gentleman came in thinking that the two one fourteen year was an aberration took se Kwan Barkley second overall mistakes both of them huge and the next one I was going to hit you with will they get a much higher Pat Shurmur not another mistake so let's just go based on that I mean how many games of the giants won since he's been here I don't think that the media has an agenda toward development I don't think he's been accessible to the media which has been a little bit of a problem maybe makes it seem like there is some back and forth bear no love lost between media and government because of his fellow him not being excessive bodies you will get a man opened up when he was on I think was with Joan admin recently and he was saying he's gonna try to make make that change moving forward the giants of talk about and want to have a more accessible moving forward but we're going based off of the track record here he's got nothing to lose what this team since you've been here Jim carbon Daniel Jones people not that pic turned out as of now looks like it was a good pick maybe it's got a quarterback well let's just go based on his record plus some of the city's is gonna build offense of one of the offense of linemen awful bear zero defense how many years this rebuild gonna take exactly and it wasn't supposed to be rebuilt and I will I'm a guy who gave him the benefit of the doubt when dealing with the old el back in junior stop because everybody got on for say why didn't sign him to trade him I really believe that that's the case he didn't sign on what the intention of trading on that would be stupid of the giant to do it inside I'm thinking you know what you're going to be out of town soon they signed him thinking he was going to change that was a dumb move to Saddam in the first place but that's a whole nother story but I believe government when he said we didn't sign the trade and they didn't they sign of the game's gonna change be a productive player he wasn't he was the same old guy not to my surprise to there's I guess and then the train them but I've been dental that's what a good move got money and to be fair I don't think you can properly evaluate a general manager in just two years but from what we've seen so far looking good there's no direction there's no building blocks I mean you could say individual players with Daniel Jones I'm talking about there's no clear foundation or direction to where this team is going in the kind of starting over again now in your three with a new head coach and a quarterback is going to be in your two alleys in far Rockaway with a belly are you doing good how are you man not a bit cold so a lot of people talking lacking in experience and all good people good coach self happened to notice that we ordinator wonder what you thought about yeah I mean those are the two names we only go there only because boy that was a chaotic to call a lot of background noise there hopefully everything's okay in your neighborhood not maybe not a beautiful day in that neighborhood that at the moment at least it is something that is going to be talked about maybe Joe judge will get to that tomorrow to peer pressure right here on the fan help maybe get to that addressing what is gonna do was coaching staff whether he wants experienced coordinators Garrett Wade Phillips would be appealing I understand that certainly from a fan's perspective you wanna have guys that you can trust to know right now there may be an unnamed coordinator out there that might be better than Wade Phillips award Jason Garrett respectively offense of in defense of up because you don't know their name you're less likely to feel feel good about that I wouldn't be opposed to I like we told his defensive corner I think it could be weird with Garrett being the offense of coordinator it was just fired from being a coach there were talks about the giants being interested him and him as a head coach I don't know that's a good fit and to me regardless of name or experience or stature or excitable higher you know a sexy higher sixty name I'd rather just have guys that Joe judge trust same way with a gentle Matt rule couple years ago they want to hire last year let him have his coaching staff I'm a firm believer that if you're hiring head coach he's got a bill to pick his staff and then to appoint the Mike brought up before from six to six thirty talking about how much you can spend on corners you don't realize I learned a little bit about that even just doing games with Columbia when they were making coaching changes and how important it is obviously it's a much much lesser level but still important to be able to hire the head coach he gets all the accolades but he's gonna be able to hire good assistant coaches with them and it costs a lot of money.
Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?
"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.
Hall Lifts Coyotes Over Panthers 5-2 For 4th Straight Win
"Opposite that carries even with their third string goalie in that Aiden hill they go in they beat the Panthers for their fourth straight win as the interview enough five two victory there so the dogs are aptly rolling at Taylor hall scored the go ahead goal late in the second and then the coyotes take it from there Matt rules your new head coach of the Carolina Panthers eighty seven years sixty two million dollar deal as the new coach gene of pay curve is just blown out of the water by David temper the Panthers owner Joe judge the special teams coordinator for the patriots and receivers coach is new head coach the New York Giants and that's not going over real well in
NFL: Two head coaching hires in 10 minutes
"The draft before the combine. We still have several weeks. NFL Action to go. We have some new coaches join. Join the NFL. As recently as this afternoon and joining me to talk about that and the playoff games is our friend with the Atlantic Lindsay Jones Lindsay. How are you? I'm good oh how are you. I'm good I thought this was going to be kind of a quiet day in the NFL landscape and then suddenly to head. Coaching hires in the matter of ten minutes. This morning Matt rule going to the panthers. Joe Judge going to the giants after Mike McCarthy was named cowboys coach earlier this week. So let's start with today's news. Let's start with Matt rule who gets a seven year deal. What sixty seventy million dollars? A lot of money. Samat rule to leave Baylor and come work for the Carolina Panthers. Yeah I mean it sounded like one of those Offers you can't refuse type of situation where I think he's GonNa have a lot of power he's also got a lot of money and A lot of years to do To do what the panthers to do. It's not quite a Jon. GRUDEN ten years one hundred million dollar type of deal but David Tepper is showing that he is not afraid to spend a lot of money to invest very heavily in his head coach and head coach You know when everything else that they're doing I mean they're building a brand new practice facility. They're building the indoor facility. I mean they're spending a lot of money Darren Charlotte and you know I. It was interesting that there was kind of story that also came out. The rule wanted to kind of bring that offer back to the giants Because he was going to interview with the giants as well but The giants said okay. We're going to hire JOE judge instead of paying Instead of hiring not rule it six years seventy million dollars or whatever it is so Really really interesting. Move there Bell what are you. What was your initial? Take on it. I guess and then I'll I'll go with yours it. I think it's interesting in that. I'm not gonNA pretend that I am someone who has watched every Baylor game this year. I've watched a little bit and I've read up a Matt Rule Essay coaching candidate. Now for the past two years of course rule was very very nearly the jets head coach last year before jazz blocked him hiring his own offensive coordinator which point he stepped out of that process and they hired Adam Gates move. That has worked out brilliantly for the jets of course in the afterward with that rule. I think there are certainly elements of a a run first attack. I think he is not someone who is seen as a a progressive offensive minded. They've run EARNHARDT Peos this year. He has seen that as sort of a you know. I can't deal with the devil to run as much of the rushing game as he wants to and I think that's very interesting given what we have. In Carolina we have Christian McCaffrey who's entrenched is the best running back in football at the moment. We Have Cam Newton who I think you know certainly seems like this offer. This higher would probably be good for him in a way back for him in a way. Oh you know good in that. The run first attack does seem to favor can if he can be a player who does impact game with his leg. Still which we don't know coming back from injury but it's pretty clear that you know if Matt rule wants to move on from Cam Newton. He's going to have plenty of time to move on and higher higher or or or or sign up backup quarterback or assigned a young quarterback or draft a quarterback and give that guy a time to develop so I kind of feel of two minds. It's for this when it comes to the biggest decision for the second the second biggest decision the panthers have to make this office and I don't know how you feel about do you do. What does this mean for you for Cam Newton? Yeah I I think the first thing is just how healthy is he gonNA be. What's his time? Line going to be like their That's the thing that just is over everything and has been over everything for the panthers for going on two years now I still think he's GonNa be back and and I've been I've been thinking about this a lot over the last few few days I've been writing about brees and Brady and thinking about all of the potential quarterback moves that we're gonNA see the offseason and well this time of year. It's really fun fun to speculate about. All the potential moves and this year is more interesting than any quarterback off season that I can remember and maybe ever certainly certainly as long as my nfl institutional memory is But ultimately moving on from a quarterback and guy who's taking you to a super bowl who's won an MVP Without some sort of really solid plan in place is it's a really hard at it. It's so rare that it happens so ultimately I think he ends up being back. I think he's there's so many things that you can do with him if he's going to be healthy but that if he's going to be healthy is just the biggest question that's been out there and We're not going to know that for a couple abundance I guess the good news is that they don't have to make that move or decision on Cam Newton. Today I mean they they really can can wait a couple of months but ultimately. I think that there are better team with him. And the options outside of him are just not that great. I mean. There's some intriguing names out there but I just think I don't think you're GonNa do better than Cam. Newton Can A new. There's even seventy five percent of the quarterback that he was in two thousand fifteen when he was at his peak. Yeah or even the guy who was playing well in the first half of two thousand eighteen. I think that can traffic is still really good There's a definitely interesting sort of dichotomy with that rule or I guess not a paradox. In that he is a very conservative. Very first coach. But we've we've seen in the report effortless. Hire one of the reasons that the panthers were able to Land Matt run into the panthers was because they're making a huge investment in sports science. You mentioned the practice facility being built there. I mean it seems like it's a you know. This is the the beginning of a major infrastructure shift for the panthers to being an organization that they wanNA emulate the steelers and they wanna be simultaneously Eh analytics friendly at the same time so I think it was going to be a really interesting sort of narrow path to hit their where they are a run for his team which is typically considered to be sort of a antiquated or old school notion but making it work and so I think in the long run. They might end up being more similar to the Ravens. Who seemed to embody all those things right now in the steelers? Yeah I mean that's absolutely the franchise right now that you want to emulate if you look at WHO's doing it the best right now from both play on the field but also what they're doing inside their building and the the mindset that they have with the type of people that they hire The way that they make all their decision I think it's the Ravens and I guess that comes from the steelers family and that's so so that's what he's familiar with. But I think the other thing that we we didn't talk about was not rule that we just really have to mention. Is that while we can talk about schematics. And look at his Ex's knows and yes he's run I but you know what college offenses he bringing those sorts of things. I think the biggest reason that he was this really hot. NFL Coaching candidate over the last two years. This is his reputation. That's kind of a program builder and The work that he did at temple the way that he really kind of overhauled Baylor over the last two the three years when they were really a disaster The the way he interacts with players You know he brought his father and his former pastor and coach and you know I just think that Dad's what made him so attractive in addition to obviously like the the the skills that he has. It's an actual you know coach but You know I think we get so caught happen. Like what exactly is this. Guy's offense going to look like or what exactly is this guy's defense gonNa look like when really what owners and management are looking at is. What's this Guy's vision? How is he going to interact after everything everybody in the building? How does he relate to players What is his vision? All those sorts of things not really why they came out rule You know a bunkers you you know seventy million dollar contract Jack. Think that's very fair and I think that's really what they're bringing matt rule to do. I mean this is a guy who they think is going to overhaul everything about the panthers. The culture is going to change not that rhinovirus culture was bad. Obviously it worked for a long time but I think you know this is going to be a eighteen. An organization top to bottom built in in the vision of Matt Rule on the other side of things You think about the hiring. The giants made today in Joe Judge who granted. I think there's been that those sort of initial tweets coming out the wide receivers coach. He's really special teams coach. He is not good for one year. He has been the Patriot special teams coach for a long time. He has worked under Bill Bell. Check US worked under Nick Sabin. Those are pretty successful people to work underneath and yet it sort of seems like not. Maybe this is wrong to say but it seems like this higher is out of nowhere. Is that fair to say a little bit. I mean he was.
