"To the post office again I'm Jack Russell This is anything is possible and we're talking to the pastor of the national shrine of the little flower basilica at 12 mile in Woodward in Royal Oak father Joe horn father welcome an honor to have you Thank you Jack I'm honored to be here Can we start by you offering an opening prayer as we begin this Christmas week Sure Let's just pray simply that the lord and his kindness less everyone that hears this with the grace to accept all the good that they can receive at this time of year but also to bear and to endure any sadness that comes along with the season as well And then in the midst of it we find each other celebrating the life that God has given us And we ask all this through Christ our lord Amen Thank you father What if we start by talking about your childhood and your mom and your dad Sure So I grew up in a very rural farming community Actually it's near marine city It's smaller than wine city It's fair haven And so my parents raised us on a small farm about 60 acres turned mostly into Woods and so we had a great childhood playing in the Woods There was a creek We often made canoes and boats and would try to float down the creek and never successfully And then my father he was a machinist and my mother she cleaned a rectories so she when we were growing up my mom didn't work much but afterwards she wound up working in the church helping rectories in priests So father Bill influenced there Have you ever cleaned directory During COVID Yeah we had to let go of one of our cleaning ladies just because you know and our laundress right So yeah we've been cleaning since for the last 18 months All right What's the biggest thing you learned from mom and what's the biggest thing you learned from gan My mom is tenacious don't give up look for another way My mom just you know we didn't grow up too wealthy We grew up happy but that's because they made things work you know My dad was just laid back You didn't let things bother him I wish I had more of my father's attitude I get kind of frustrated at times where he just laid back and let it happen But those two attitudes really have fed me In life you know to try and see that God will get us through but also not to get too upset This too shall pass right How was it get decided to become a priest That was a I thought it was gonna be a priest when I was 7 years old I fell in love with Saint Francis I became an ultra server And just the life of Francis inspired me It reflected a lot about my life growing up in the Woods with animals and nature and he just seemed to speak to my heart And just discerning that as I got older you know none of my friends really supported it They thought I should be doing something else with them right So I never really spoke out much as a young man about my vocation because I got looks funny looks from them But then it wasn't until I got into college that I really expressed the desire and sought it out I asked my pastor you know what should I do You just said pray more But it wasn't until I went up to a neighboring church and just now diamonds has got them tired of batten this ball around and not making any progress What do you want of me you know And there was a group in the front of the church I think some kind of a para group but there was a talk I think it was our CIA actually the right of Christian initiation for adults That's for those who are becoming Catholic And anyway the man that was given the presentation was talking about careers and what people do and God can use you as a nurse God can use you as a policeman But then he pointed him back to me and I wasn't part of the group I was just hiding out in church and back And the man said and that young man back there he might become a priest one day And I'm like you gotta be kidding me Lord that's kind of a clear answer there I was asking him and this man says you might be a priest one day So I took it to heart and I began to pursue my vocation with the franciscans And that did that for about 5 years I lived at dunk scotus with the order fires minor in Southfield at 9 mile evergreen So I lived there for a while Then I went to student though the Franciscan university of steubenville And got my degree in theology a minor in philosophy and a minor in philosophy and biology So that was the journey I started committing right And then just through life choices I just had you know I think I need to stay home and serve the people of God here So I asked the diocese if they would receive me And so in 1991 I entered the seminary at sacred heart major seminary in Detroit And in 97 you became you were ordained And you were assigned to the national talk about comeuppance huh And whatever I did wrong there I got to fix now It's amazing right I'm now serving at the parish I was a brand new priest I really feel blessed because here I cut my teeth Jack You know this is a big place and I learned how to be a priest in a very busy place So in the people we're loving they were generous with their kindness and so I come back to a place that I really fell in love with.

I absolutely thought there's no way trayvon digs was going to escape the first round but he ended up doing that and dude. I don't know in asante samuel junior like the thing the thing with sons. Don't even get me started on him. He'd he's he's good but like i don't think he's trayvon Trayvon digs looks like he's already in the running for like best corner of the year as a rookie. Like he's he's still making some rookie mistakes like he gets cooked occasionally. But i mean to his paul hack. Ball hawking ability is incredible. It's do some people have six picks in a whole year is six and a whole year could potentially lead the league allowed you dude crush like any record they have. I don't know what the record is. I think i think it was by like night train lane of years ago but like he looks good and the thing with like brotherhoods. I think are more reliable. Kids like of nfl. People are like athletes. I think more risky but there most of the time are good like who was it that he is moss. He did not really. he's not good. But larry rice's kid isn't anything. Yeah but it's like most of the time they are pretty. Good like asante samuel. Who is be interesting to see a friend. Gore's kid gets drafted. He's at southern miss right now. I think he's playing. As far as i know he's playing pretty well. I'm not sure if he's drafts. Drafted material though. We'll see and then he. He might be good but like jc horn patrick's tan. Dude asante samuel junior like these. These corners were all like sons of great players. And they're all good forgot about jc horn. I didn't even realize that he was. He had a dad. Joe horn right. "Like opening a pack of cards in getting the lamelo logo man. One of one like nothing. That will never happen again in your life. You couldn't even dream of that because there's no way that lamelo will ever sign something that he's not getting paid and millions of dollars for ever again. Rookie panini deal or whatever a redemption. That's the bad goodness. Oh my goodness all right. let's hit some more. Nfl news now. Sure if he saw this. Thom pillow sorrow tweeted. It out so remember a couple of years ago when they banned all endzone dances. And all that fun stuff. Yes fun league. No showing your emotions. So then they brought it back right. Actually you know what. Which was you. Choreograph yeah chorus. That was like super fun and so it seemed like the league and kind of turned a corner in that However now a rule change coming up this year point of emphasis. They officials have been instructed to strictly enforce taunting rules. This coming season two violations result in automatic ejection fines and even suspensions in play if overly egregious this means what problem with this the p. Signed like tyrod kill turning around and giving deuces to guys like that's out celebrating and taunting two different things. If you want to coordinate with your teammates where you do a gronk spike. And then everybody stands around you in a circle and falls backwards or something in unison. Right that's cool that's okay. You're celebrating but if you're taunting and you are being demeaning to your opponent you're belittling your opponent that's the stuff that gets ingrained into the culture of the game and pass down to the next generation. Nobody wants to see an eleven year old high stepping in peewee football and making fun of another an eleven year old because he saw his favorite player do that on tv. I have no problem with the choreographed celebrations. Te'o bringing out a us the pan out of his stock and signing the football right right right a cell phone underneath the goalposts. And you want to score a touchdown and call somebody like joe horn. That's fine. i'm okay with props. Chatto cinco in the hall of fame jacket. Great love it. Props them all in because it celebrate. How is high stepping showing. I mean i don't see the high stepping his tiny your journey to the db behind you pointing at him as your running past him right. I just don't want the demeaning energy around but see celebration. This comes really into now. It's a this ref might call this in this. Other ref might not Reason you're you know you're demeaning to your opponent you know when you are taunting your opponent has not fine line between celebration and taunting. It's plenty black and white. I'm sorry but like these are grown. Tough men in the man running by you in throwing up the peace sign. I mean is that really demeaning to be on the phone. That's more that could be to the whole team like yo wherein i don't know i never got the biggest point here. Kids watch that and then we'll imitate that okay. We'll watch this stuff that they should look at that. I'll get that's why they're wanting to set the example to the kid. That's where it's the problem. Well the mill. They're far no no. I know. I don't know i find that really stupid. Peter schrager good morning. Football tweeted this out as well he spoke to. Nfl officials say he said last week on the taunting said there is a significant difference in making gestures and making gestures at opposing players. I think we're going to see a lot of flags for things at opposing players member in the super bowl antoine. With junior made the peace made the deuces tyreek hill that flag in the super bowl but that was worth it. Because that was that was hormone. Totally of course of course but we're not going to see that this year and if we do it is going to get a flag. Said you know when you're taunting your opponent directly at your opponent you know that if you score a touchdown and you spike the football and if it's done in a way where you're spiking at at hammer look that's a different energy. It's all about intuition. It's all by reading into the energy behind the celebration if it's celebratory if it's joyful if it's supported by your teammates awesome and the fact that the. Nfl has grown to a place to embrace. That remember used to take the camera and they would put it off the guy in the end zone you know go back on the seem dancing and cut it and they show the coach with some papers over his mouth now. There are at least marketing. It celebrating it putting the camera on. Ob j. when he's moonwalking fine at super fun. Love that yeah. They're just trying to get rid of some of the owner. Had the at the opponent needing the winds demeaning over your touchdown dance over there would you be shoving in somebody's face. Pike can't do it now.

"Good players. So my best my favorite touchdown celebration of all time is chad. Johnson runs to the sideline puts on the hall of fame. Jacquet says two thousand question question mark. That was class. I don't think any of them will ever beat though for me. Joe horn points out of that was the original heading The or the one where. Joe buck lost his mind when rain law spain and that is a disgusting act by. You didn't even booze payments dow's only had some pretty good celebrations man on his way to the end zone right and then getting into it. He had some pretty damn. I mean coach sanders. Only see now back on the. You know what i've done is just taught myself back into super touch back in the last time the best one just te'o pulling out the sharpie signing the football you know it was awesome talk corn crazy and i you guys know. I think tara loans one of the five best talents. The position of all time should have been a first ballot hall of fame. You i got some bit from. I understand you. Listen and even to this day. I know he gets mad because i criticized him but i also tell them how great he is. And i i do i. I think he's a great football player. We've had some fun battles and had some summer. He's been pissed at me. When i was on tv and say listen minutes it and it all stems from one incident because on sports that are on i i got i destroyed that the one you loved now the back i say you know pretty frigging clever but i'm thinking why would you pull that out on the field of football thing and now that i look back on and thinking pretty damn clever celebration at the time you're little more old school. What are you doing in the middle of game on your team. That of champion. Yeah and criticized sucked about it is that he ended up giving it to either his agent or financial guys like If you want to give it to right so we had it. I know he was mad at me for. We got into a battle back and forth on sportscenter and randomly are few years ago. He started marketing about about dan out of nowhere and skip and yeah somewhere still talking about that incident. I enjoy a i was like. What is this it was classic know but the truth is and i gave i said. Listen man i. I understand why he was bothered by the criticism but we even have taught about it on the air which made for tv right. And but i. I love the guy i think. He's a phenomenal football player. And made i mean it was just a matter of fact we. I don't think you get enough credit for being as good as he has. People just did like his approach and that was part of and so when we got in that battle. You're right it was. When i look back i look back. Say that's a clever celebration. But at the time i was like why would you do that right. So good at it and he got mad at me and then he like you said ten years later on but i say no. You're right man. Good celebration but i got no problem loans because you know what i've been saying all along even when it was critical that the guy should have been a first famer if you're going by what he did. He deserved it. So it made for good talk and fund banter. But i've also changed over the years. I'm a little more when you get the end zone. Go forward man. It's those of us who didn't get the end zone very often that you're like wish i if it's original. I'm good i can. I can't when he did it looking back. It's one of the most original the celebrations you will ever see. I love the guy. He made me not knowing enough. That i love and we'll give you know with spun. But he What i loved about two when he took some personal. Even though it wasn't personal he went out and kicked ass on the field so love them and should have been a first ballot hall of fame. That was some fun times on sports center and got after it the way. It should be the real respectful banner. Even if you don't make it personally. I didn't like it but i probably didn't like it because i never got a chance to celebrate like heated. Because he's really really watched asset credible shape tonight. He looks to me like go. Play for about ten thirty seven phenomenons. Wherever teo is as i said forever brother you should have been a first ballot hall of famer and it shouldn't have even been in question phenomenal.

"Or Higher for me the way lower. Is it higher or lower? McLovin? I never know you go. Yeah, but you're drafted higher, But you're really Laura. I don't know. Okay. I got a draft that I don't want. What did you just say? You didn't? I don't know. I have a draft bet, Okay, but I don't want to be part of it. I think a fair draft. That is which Alabama wide receiver goes first, but it seems like a coin toss based on mock draft between jail and Waddle. And Devante Smith. I don't know if anyone in the room knows that, by the way, just got this from my source. Michael Parsons is a guy Denver likes to and there at nine. Makes a lot of sense for the Cowboys. Parsons does have some character concerns, which never bothers Jerry Jones. So, actually, I think it entices him. Maybe You have character issues. Yeah. Yeah, We're here for you. Yes, See, I think Michael Parsons goes to the Dolphins as six. And then I think, doesn't it feel more like the Eagles? Um, like it's like which of the Alabama wide receivers the Eagles are drafting. You know, for sure that chapter screwing up on a wide receiver last year. They get it right this year. Yes, Michael. I think Vegas has the other corner back onto the Eagles JC. Horrible You see out of South Carolina? Yeah, he's Joe Horn sons. That's the Vegas favorite. But the vibe receivers were right there for them, too. Yes, Paul. If he was Michael Parsons, he'd be so much less athletic and less intimidating. Michael Parsons. Sounds like he could run into his stuff. Don't the Dolphins have 18 2? That's where he goes. 18. Yeah, I think he's off the board before that. Uh, yeah. Throw some pink. No, I already irony. Take the Prius. No, I get it. You get my Mercedes. Yeah, or well, you know, one of the other toys, even first one, but I got a pie coming my way tomorrow anyway. Trevor Laurence going number one overall. So I walk in knowing is everybody invested some way somehow in the first round tonight? Yes, time. I'm going to jump in and say, my Brock was gonna either take Parsons a certain so I would get a pie in the face if it's any other player, Okay, except for Parsons or so that's boring, but we'll take it. Welcome. Welcome to the party. Todd. Yes. See what if we just had since everybody's got a bunch of pies on the line? Like a pie free for all. Like we just get 30 pies together and just chuck them all like a game of Thrones and poppin fresh got together Exactly. We would just like It's just every man for himself. Pie Smash Appaloosa..

"Some guys get injured. The cap comes up to creep on you. And now the 40. Niners have a ton of decisions to make in the off season. I'll tell you this. They don't want to go for rookie quarterback, you know, but it's It's one of those things. It's like two. Is Jimmy gonna be the guy? I don't think they want to go the rookie route. But what can they surround? Um you know, it's all about how much you know what can you What does the roster look like? With Jimmy? What does the roster look like with a quarterback on a rookie deal, and then it's a matter of Can you pick the right one? And then there's a lotta You know, it's not. It's easier said than done right because we know where there's so many failed young quarterbacks around the league. Scott's hanging out in in Camarillo, Camarillo, and he's with us on the sports later. Hey, Scott. Hey, Larry. Uh, I keep Jimmy Keep you, Kimmy. And build that's offensive line. You know what we There's a great future. Jimmy can last another what 6789 years and he can leave this taken really lead this team he's dialed in with Kyle Shanahan scheme if we give them the protection I know he does have the greatest mobility like a collar Murray or a Russell Wilson. But I tell you, you draft heavily with the offensive lineman, and this guy can go to town and he can get us back to the promised land. All right, Scott, we appreciate the phone call. Excuse me had to sneeze there opens up online and it away can be are. We do appreciate your perspective. He's a vote for for Jimmy. You know, I think the Niners in a you look at the way they're structured. You know if the Ford is not coming back, and probably, you know, I would say D. Ford is not coming back. Um, you know, pass rusher, maybe their number one priority number one corner. There could very easily I think they would rather invest in a pass rusher or number one corner in that first round. Then have to go with the quarterback. But if they feel like they don't have their franchise quarterback If Kyle feels that way on, we don't know how he feels this John mentioned before. Um, you know that's going to take precedent right to the franchise quarterback in the pursuit of that quarterback is going to take precedent over All other positions on the field. But man the way they're structured in a way they're set up. They gotta have they gotta be able to get to the quarterback. So on put some pass rush on because that, as we all know, makes all these young DBS look better, no matter who you go with in the in the secondary. So that could be the priority or true number one corner like you know, Joe Horn's kid from South Carolina Heat that could be the priority. So, um, you know, it will be interesting come April, but it's gonna be interesting before then, to see exactly how they view Jimmy and what their what Their plan is. Tonight, though we got a great look at one of the great young quarterbacks in the NFL and Josh Alan and he put on a show for the ages. Hey was in total rhythm. Niners did not pressure him didn't hit him at all in the first half. And and he picked him apart and he really who showed great patience and great development. I was so impressed that how much he's developed in just a short amount of time. I mean, he really made handle the ball well, carried out some outstanding play fakes. I mean, really outstanding play fakes. On. Then he's got the arm talent like none other And tonight, the three strikes for the most part, so I'm probably the worst passing Adams. That was the first ball in the impact of the ends into the tight end that he kind of threw wildly other than that he was he was on all night long, All right, and we can be on the phone number. We'll take more calls straight ahead, give you a few more thoughts on the sports leader. What's the best way to reunite the world safely, and United is committed to putting health and cleanliness at the forefront of their travel experience. United School is to deliver.

"Pregame The phone numbers of the Merryweather entire pot line. Merryweather and Thorpe. You have questions. We have answers 888813 to 947. That's triple 8 81 dogs. You can tweet us hashtag Uta dog Top, Kevin at the Real Butthead and yours truly at Jeff Dancer, TV and KB and this most maddening of seasons. Today has one of the oddest fields of all with all sorts of storylines heading in. Yeah, Yeah, it's um You know the story line that I'm most intrigued right now with Jeff is the Big step we took on offense last week and See and how our quarterbacks gonna pop out there this week and see if he can pick it up where he was very productive last week. I'd love to see some consistency at the position now. JT got out there last week and just did a phenomenal job set the expectations. Very high for all the Bulldog nation. I think we all want to see some performance like that again, So I think it's a little bit of pressure on him. But I think he handled everything last week so cool so confidently. He was commanding out there on the field, and that was one thing that I was looking for from any quarterback and we got it last week. So you know there are a lot of story lines, a lot of cross over a lot of relationships at this game. Both on the Georgia in the South Carolina side. But what intrigues me the most right now is I want to see Georgia really start to establish and a little bit time left in this crazy season. I want to say them establishments of consistency at quarterback, and I wanted to be a high level and the other thing he saw what Daniel's last week, George had a triumvirate of receivers. Who all played great. George Pickett scares Jackson and Jermaine Burton, who was named the FCC's freshman of the week. Getting that continuity. There is huge. Meanwhile, for South Carolina, what will must chant was fired. Israel move! Koyama, who was the M V P of last year's game here in Athens, had three interceptions and getting that pick six and J. C Horn? That's the former seats. Great Joe Horn. That's his son. They both quit S O. Now, those two corners who have been so vital to South Carolina's successes, and of course, what they were able to do here in Athens last year, they're not there. Georgia coming off of a big time game, throwing it George's best passing game, statistically such 2013 but in terms of having a big time plays and hitting it down the field. We were able to do that. A bunch of 2017 and 2018. This was the first time the passing attack had that kind of field. Bottom line, Kev, you look at last season, Georgia had a great year going 12 and two finishing number four in the country, the dog sitting at five and two right now, but that lift that the passing game got This past week. The last two seasons. Georgia just has had bottom line. Ah, hard time scoring. I think that is what has been so energetic to the Georgia fan base. Yeah, that has been something that was exciting to see. You know, you see the long ball everybody likes the long ball and it's no different football when you spread in the field. Making the field vertical, which we don't do a whole lot, but we certainly did it last week. That's kind of what I'm excited about to see tonight just like he was saying, Jeff before we got on. They were talking about the next couple of games. And what weather might be a factor in some of these games? Not only hear it George, but certainly going up to Columbus than playing a Mizzou team, but You know, Right now it's gonna be perfect weather. They should have Ah, great night for football up there and I want them to be confident. But you know they're going up against a great challenge tonight because there's a stacked coaching. Staff on South Carolina. That knows just about everything you need to know about. George's coaching staff s. So it's gonna be a great chess game out there, But you're right. It's been a close game for for for quite a while and scoring. So, um I hope we don't keep it close tonight. I think if our offense and the quarterback gets out there and Shows that consistency that I was talking about. I think Georgia concertedly put a little gap between them and maybe control the game on but some numbers up. There are favorable force and obviously South Carolina with the interim situation at the head coaching position. It's a bit of a wild card. You talk about nothing to lose. They could pull out any trick and every trick. What Georgia doesn't want to have happen is what happened last year is the better team is the favorite to turn the football over to have those self inflicted wounds. We had four turnovers last year and missed two field goals. That's what opens the door for the upset. Dogs can't afford to make those kind of mistakes. Now they can't and you know, it's it's really going to be an interesting night. Right now, you know with was saving out. This just came up with this. So this is why it's gonna make a lot of sense. I was saving out. SEC Network's gonna be looking for content right? And this could be like the saving SEC Apprentice show where we go to save and help describe how Sarti Asians doing tonight that we go to South Carolina. He could talk about how Bobo's doing tonight. And we have these coaches that these intern coaching now but they are auditioning tonight. If not for the school that they're coaching for tonight. They're certainly on stage for everybody in the nation to see how they could do. And a head football coach and for Bobos. I think his opportunity is there. He's going to have more talent on this South Carolina team out there compared to what he was dealing with that Colorado state so with better talent. He should have better results. That's what he's going to try to do against a team that he's familiar with with Georgia. And you just don't know how the coaching carousel was going to go with the financial situations around the country this year that raising it really is and that's where you look at Georgia and the job that Kirby Smart has done here in three straight 11 and one regular seasons. Top five Top five Top five SEC Championship Game three straight years, you know, unfortunately, have dropped a couple of games to top five teams this season, but still with a chance to have a very strong year just to be in that position where you're beyond solid and the fan base in the head coach or just in a great position together. They're very few schools that can say that right now..

"Wrestled outta bounds by Jaycee Horn, the son of former NFL And New Orleans Saints Great Joe Horn, but pits has his first reception of the day. That's good for a first down again a 15 yards. Perfect coverage that time by Jay Z. Horny really is their best covered. I think we're going to see him matched up a lot today with Kyle pits, but even better throw. It's hard to defend that back shoulder throw when you're matched up one on one with carpets. He's just so big at 662 46. Again. Jason Horn was running right with him, but trash threw it right on the money and great body control and timing by pits to reach back and grab that football. Two by two senators game of 21 piercing the running back from the 16 yard line. Trash cans it off. Here's running breaks a tackle at the 10 to the eighth helmet flies off the defender and still there to make the tackle is R. J. Roderick. He lost his helmet. There's a flag down. We stay with the play and may have saved game fax from allowing a touch down here in the Red Zone again. Flag down on the carry for appears I I wonder if the flag is on Roderick, because when your helmet comes off, you're supposed to Kind of quit playing, and he's certainly did died and tried to finish that tackle. That's that's I think what? Probably the referee's we're talking about right now. Lee Hedrick. The referee has just stepped away from Their conference on these lips I cannot read and there is no hand indication either on the flag. I think that probably makes me think that they're waving off the flag and saying there is no foul on the play for whatever reason, so I'm not sure. Well, that's my guests, So no flag means the place stands as a gain of nine yards for Damian Pierce. And that'll set up second and one with 4, 52 and county left in the opening quarter seven to nothing. South.

So he scores his touchdown it's actually pretty nice play cut tippy his toes in the back of the end zone, and then like he goes to his shoes on the tongue of the shoe, he peels off and has some writing on there but he like can't peel it off take some five minutes and take him to try. Yeah I remember those cameras can't read it. Yeah. It's like took seven point five. I remember what was on there now because it wasn't even like. "Radio you know Joe horn I remember I don't know if everyone remembers Joe horn I definitely remember a phrase that wrong I think he made the Pro Bowl like four time pretty good receiver in his prime many had the the cell phone I think that was his bit eight the ends and celebration so if you ever seen that that was his bit but he was asked this week about the the future of the sport and he said that he thinks it should be flag football and that fans would still pay to see and I know here that you're taken aback like flag football arm but it's it's not that wild right I mean just this P. this past week we've seen Andrew luck retire abruptly and basically say I couldn't play football anymore it was I was in too much pain I could not live the life I wanted to live going forward if football is involved and then a day or two later rob court rob going Caskey come out and say football was bringing me down are you know I didn't like it I I couldn't sleep and those are two of the biggest strongest people on the planet so you know football is just a a brutal brutal sport whenever people talk about making it safer but the analogy I always use is you can use seat belts to make car crashes safer right seat belts have made car crashes safer but there is nothing that can make a car crash safe there's nothing that can make football safe without fundamentally changing the game now flag football would be fundamentally changing the game if you were to say that were to happen though would people still watch it that's the question and I don't really know the answer for sure eight five five two one two four two two seven would you still watch because what some of the top athletes would still be on display Patrick brown home se Kwan bark lay Odell Beckham me they get the flash this goes even more in flag football technically fantasy would still be viable gambling would still be viable I think the answer to the question of whether fans would still pay to watch flag football comes down to the the answer to another question which is how much of of football's popularity as popular as it is is tied into its violence the physicality the contact because that's what you'd be losing the gladiator nature of the sport and honestly I I don't know the answer to that it feels like a lot and when I've seen this question posed the the stock answer I've seen from the audience is no I wouldn't watch anymore but is that actually true with with nobody watches is that the appeal of of the NFL is it that more than anything else the the ability to shed contact fight they would get back up all that stuff I'm just curious I and I say that as a lifelong consumer of the product arm and someone who's excited for week one right around the corner but also someone who now always has in the back of my mind you know the the told of the sport what we now know about it would you watch professional football the NFL if it became flag football with just the watch eight five five two one two four two two seven let's go to Brian in Richmond Brian you're up next on CBS sports radio what's up Hey how's it going to rob right so awfully I'd and arm I would not be a fan of that but I do think that that there would be a fan if the NFL as we know it what they're really at their so there were you saying there would be fans still of it I think so I think that just because the athletic performance that would be shown but it would be such a different sport you know you consider taking out all the big guys though that is true you're right it's just gonna be a lot of the third allusive athletes that are good up and up well it would start to resemble sports much more like soccer and basketball right I mean essentially having that with soccer and basketball even hockey to agree that that's what those sports are it would start to be more like that I'll.

Ron is calling from New Orleans, Ron, I'm assuming you wanna talk about the anes. Yes, sir. How are you doing tonight? Good. What's up, Ron? I'm good. I think that both games are going to be very good. I want to start with the patriots against a cheap. Okay. I think that that's going to be a phenomenal game. The defense for the chiefs has come on recently. But Brady's got a lot of playoff experience. So that's gonna be a very fun game. All right. How about the? All right. The saints over the Rams, and I'll tell you why. Because I think that the same Chavan improved defense. And also a more experienced quarterback. All that is true. Okay. Now, I'm an older guy. I'm fifty five, and I'm gonna tell you three of my favorite players. Okay. I hope they're not all anes. Was Joe horn Morten Andersen. I love more. Bobby abrams. Wow. Lebron's a complete player. But George Gervin. I mean, there was some amazing frequent scores Durant. Kevin Durant mean curry curry? You could put anyone you want that fourth spot for me. But Michael Colby and wealth get three all right last one sticking with hoops, DeMarcus cousins told Rachel Nichols on that great show the jump that. The warriors are quote the most hated team in sports shot or no shot. That warriors are the most hated team in sports and no shot. Absolutely. No shot whatsoever. There are plenty of people that don't like the Lakers because LeBron is there are plenty of people that don't like the Yankees because they're the Yankees. Yeah. No shop, but I will say they I don't think they're that hate most hated team in sports. But they have some of the most hated athlete sports. Draymond green people. Go both ways on him, you either love them or you hate them. And I think most people hate them boogie cousins same thing. I think a lot of people don't like him. I think Kevin Durant. Also gets a lot of hate from people. And also the warriors get a lot of quote, unquote. They're buying championships because Katie went there. Yeah. That's a legitimate point. But I think Alabama football when you got a guy like atom of dollar riding sidecar with Nick Sabin. He'll yeah. There's a lot of people that are on the other end spectrum. Yeah. I mean, the buying championships thing. Making sense because Durant took less joined the warriors. So listen, I I get it. I get why. Demarcus cousins said that when you have Steph curry and Steve Kerr leading the way and Bob Myers. Those are like three the most likeable people in the NBA, especially Steph curry. Yep. So they're not the most hated team in America because the patriots bell check and Brady are still run. They're the most hated team in America. Patriots a right there question. No question about it. So anyway, three one two three three two three seven seven six. We're gonna move from baseball to football. And we're going to talk with our guy Fox Sports the one and only Charles Davis and get his take on this weekend's, NFC and AFC title games. We've got the Rams at the saints and the patriots at the chiefs and the temperature in KC expected to be somewhere between five and ten below wind. Chills could exceed thirty five below. So how will the forty one your your? Forty one or forty two Brady. How will he handle the cold? I know he plays in a cold climate. But that's that's chilly. This is brutally cold against a twenty three year old Patrick Mahomes. And then what will happen between Jared Goff on the road in the Superdome where they already lost thirty five twenty five to drew Brees the aging and the red hot saints Charles Davis joins us now every week eleven. We get him on Thursdays CD kit. You there? Yeah. Now, I got you. Okay. Good good. How you doing? I'm doing. Well. So we've got to title games, AFC NFC. Let's start with the NFC title game. You work a lot in the NFC on FOX got the Rams at the saints. I watched the game earlier in the year when the Rams lost there. I think it was thirty five twenty five what is your thirty five forty five thirty. I knew it was a ten point point spread. What did you do that game? Did not do that game. That was Joe and Troy they did an exciting. 'cause the Rams jumped out at down doubt Twenty-one dip, correct. Look like, whoa. Look like, oh, man. And next thing, you know, we're tied up and so that type of a ballgame. And I suspect we'll get something similar. I don't think we'll get the forty five thirty five. But I would not be surprised at all that we have an offensive game. There has to be decided by some defensive plays late late the contest. In terms of looking at the quarterback match. Drew Brees has not been great the last month. I know he didn't play the last week of the regular season. But he hasn't been awesome. They had to roar back from fourteen down to the eagles to win that game. And nearly they don't get the pickoff alshon hands might lose that game because we'll Lux doesn't make a field goal. So where are you on how the saints are playing going into this game? Yeah. It's not the it's not the high wire flight will lend us that we saw from earlier this year. I agree. Totally with you on that the numbers don't lie down the stretch. They have not been quite the same. But if I'm the saints, I go ahead and understanding that and say, okay, I'm gonna run it a little bit more even than normal, and you know, the saints run it more than they get credit for their six league and running the football. But I would definitely louder up Ingram and Merida. I think we might have lost Charles there on a cell. We'll try and get him back anyway. Three one two three three two three seven seven six. I'm excited for both these games on Sunday. It's gonna be a lot of fun to just lay on the couch. Relax. I mean, I obviously wish the wish the bears were playing but. To watch them is far more stressful with the Super Bowl periods on the line. This will just be a relaxing Sunday afternoon. My son just watching football. I think we got CD back. All right. So we were talking about the saints. Where were you on how they're playing going into this game? Hey, cap got you back where. Yup. Where are you on how the saints are playing going into this game? Not what they were earlier in the year. But not as bad as maybe some people make you about the apocalypse. They're not score forty five like they did three three games of the year forty five or more on my God was wrong with the same lean heavier on their offensive line running a little bit more. I think that will help drew Brees. I do think that this game. The Rams will do their level best with way Phillips to to really limit. What Michael Thomas does? Because last game. He chewed them up gap. I mean to eleven is long touchdown the Joe horn phone embarrassment of Marcus Peters. But I think we'll see the Rams at a lot more zone coverages than we did last time in the last game is a lot more man to man, which Wade Phillips favors for the corners. He plays with the keep to lead, Marcus Peters. They favor zone and the way cells has made that transition so that'd be a little bit better for them. So who else is going to pick up the slack help out? Michael Thomas, because I don't think he'll get quite the same number of opportunities in this one as he did in the last one, and I don't believe he he'll get him out because he got his he did against Philadelphia either. In terms of looking at how this whole thing's going to shake out. You think we're looking at forty five thirty five. Do you think we're looking at twenty one seventeen where do you think this game ends up in terms of points? I'm going to split the difference with you on that one. And I think that the game doesn't quite get the thirty. But we're not talking about thirteen ten, you know, I I think I think we're probably in the high twenty with the winning score. And the loser score is somewhere with a touchdown. I just feel like both teams are going to do their level best to take away. What you do? Really? Well, and I want to see if the Rams for the second week in a row will play the run. I. Before they go after the passer 'cause I know every instinct is go get drew Brees. Right. But you don't take care of Kamara and Ingram along the way. And last week. The Rams finally committed to playing run defense and what I'm talking about. Specifically captures those big fellows up front. Aaron Donald the best defensive player in the league. But Dominic sue should be as it should be dominant. But for the long time this year what were they thirtieth in the league and run defense? It shouldn't be that way. Well, to me, it was much more because of guys think pass rush I especially soup. Last week. Did you watch the Dallas game? Did you see him at the point of attack taking on guard center stone about of the way craze Highland up Ezekiel Elliott? That's the that's the thing that they're going to need in this game. And if he plays with that same thought process. Then Russia's the passes. Then then the Rams out something going the line on this game. Saints are a three point favorite and the total is fifty seven that screams to me go under. But then you look at the last game. Yeah. Last game went to seventy exactly I just think playoff football for the most part is like playoff basketball cap things slow down a little bit, don't they? They do your exciting plays. You have you. You have your breakout? But every snap is so much more crucial people take a couple extra seconds before. They initiate a play. Right. People very certain about that. When they catch the football before they turn up field. So maybe instead of catching it and going you catch it talk it away. Really, well, and then try and go and tackle gets there. I could do that ad nauseam and some have been I'm exaggerating but not by much every person out. There knows the importance of every snap. So that's why I much more. You know, not a gambler, but people say overs and unders, yeah, I'm a big believer in under a playoff football. Because the game does slow down for the most part by on the other side of the board. The AFC will put their rap into the Super Bowl between New England and Kansas City. Chiefs are three point favorite totals fifty six and I look at this game and go, okay. I'm last week. I hit every single game. I picked except one. I was stupid enough to take the chargers. Thank you. Not at all. Wait. From the LA. They're gonna Tom Brady's old and was over seven minutes. Like, that's it. Thanks for coming. So where are you on this game? Are are you talking to the same guy that you talked to last week about that game? Yes. You are. Right. You and I have a conversation last week. Yup. And wasn't the guy you're talking to right now. Stupid enough to say, I think the chargers. Did I lose you again? I think I lost them. Again. I don't know where he is today. We got back. We got him back. He's back. He's in LA. You know, LA's got bad smells, bad cell service. Yeah. I'm sorry about that. But it looks I agreed with you last week. I thought the chargers were better football team. And I thought it was their time, you know, and I thought that they would play a better game. And once again, the patriots exactly what they always do give them the extra week. They take away anything you do. Well, they render you to rubble, and then they blow you away you sit back and go. Yes, they got me again eight straight AFC title game. And I still haven't learned..
