"It is. it's kind of mind boggling to be honest with you For someone that has been a part of this since but debris was drafted. I took over the website shortly before that draft. Bud duprey the two thousand fifteen nfl draft. I mean we started a podcast platform but it was nothing like what we're doing right now. I it it's really great. I mean for me. I listen to all of our morning shows on my way to work. I listened to the news shows on my way home from work. I try to check the afternoon shows as much as i can. But it's just we have so much unique content that you could actually pick and choose the shows that you like that you wanna listen to. We hope you listen to them all but there's a lot of content but check it out wherever you get your podcast. Steelers are behind the curtain. Subscribe follow do whatever you have to do depending on the platform so that you don't miss a thing all right. Let let's get to the. Let's get to the meat of this. Podcast i wanted to talk about excuses. Not so much from the players but really from the fan base. There's a lot of people that are steeler apologised. I fall into that category at times. I'm not going to lie but there's a lot of people that always wanted develop some type of excuse as to why steelers may or may not be performing the way they are. My still do feel there are fans out there that for some unknown reason. They want this team to fail. They want this team to fall flat on their face for nothing more than to just be able to say. I told you so. And that's that's kind of sadistic to me. But and i definitely questioned that person's fan hood but there are people on twitter. Go to steelers twitter. My goodness you'll see people that. When if ben rothlisberger is struggling there. Happy why i told you he would stink if they just want to this person or this team to fail for whatever reason just to be able to say i told you so so there are people that are out there like that there are people out there. That are like that but the excuses. We want to talk about today. It's enough of it enough of the excuses. It's time for the steelers to prove their worth. Prove it to themselves prove it to the coaching staff. Prove it to the organization. Prove it to the fan base. It's time for the steelers to actually go out and prove something so when you're talking about injuries i mean my goodness the injuries tuesday. Mike tomlin means we all knew about the the injuries to you know. Joe haden devon bush. Tj watt deontay johnson. those aren't new injuries tyson. We knew about those. Or then. Mike tomlin gets up on it at the press conference and he starts talking about how. Ben rothlisberger has a pectoral injury left pectoral non-throwing chest injury and then also alex smith has a groin injury. What the heck is going on. And they're signing taco charlton to the steelers practice squad. I mean my goodness the injuries and there's a lot of people out there. Let's say that's the reason why the steelers are struggling. That's the reason why they lost and week too. Because of the injuries and toon extent. I believe that you listen to you. Listen to the live. Mike with michael back on tuesday morning. Or if you listen to the cutting room floor with jeffrey benedict on tuesday at noon they both talked about how if the steelers would have just had. Tj watt for four quarters. It probably could have been a different outcome. Not saying it would have been but it would've been a different outcome in terms of how the game played out especially in the second half but nonetheless. Here's the issue. Here's the difference now between going into week. Two and the week two game and now leading up to this game against the cincinnati bengals. The first and foremost is planning planning a you. Had joe haden endeavour bush pop up on the injury report on friday friday. You have to think about how this works for the football team as they prepare so when they are preparing for this. The game is on sunday. Typically on monday the rehash that game and they're already starting to put in the game plan for the next opponent in some instances. They're working on the game plan for the next opponent before the previous game. So that would mean that. The steelers were doing some homework on the cincinnati bengals before they played the las vegas raiders before anyone freaks out and messages me on twitter saying there overlooking opponents. They do this every week. And they're not the only team that does this. This is also why they have a scouting department goes and scouts. These teams and get stuff together and coaches like mad. Canada will start to take a look at personnel groupings. And things like that. Don't go overboard with the overreaction. But the they'll start on tuesday they'll put a plan together and then on wednesday they start implementing that plan in practice wednesday thursday friday practice saturday walkthrough game on sunday. When you have a plan in place and you're going wednesday thursday. Everything's great plan is in place. We're ready friday. Uh-huh two of your defensive starters are on the injury report now. An enlisted as questionable. Okay maybe we'll get him back. We have high hopes. You try to build a contingency plan. It doesn't always work out that way and then sunday rolls around. They'll be active uh-huh.

"But I will tell you this. If Greg Russo looks like he did in training camp and preseason, I don't want them rotated Greg Russo on the field as much as possible sale. I look at the other side Pittsburgh We were talking a little bit about the game plan. We saw Dallas run on Thursday night, where they decided to basically go after the only weakness. I think if you look at Tampa Bay's defense, then Sean Murphy bunting getting injured, they challenge their depth right away at corner. I said this, Jeremy. I know Joe Hayden. He is on the last 18 19 games of his career. There's not a ton left in the tank for Joe Haden. Who is behind him like they got rid of Steven Nelson. They got rid of their other Mike Hilton, like they don't have at least my knowledge, a group of corners that I believe can keep up with this group of bills receivers, especially if they're going to be rotating them in and out there going to be fresh throughout this game and the different packages that Brian Tables give me right if they get for receiver sets out there today. That. I mean, that is advantage bills all day. So would you like me to tell you who's listed on their depth chart behind us? This would be this would be an enlightening experience for me, and I think many listeners and viewers on stream yard Okay, so they have Justin Lane cornerback. Do you know much about Justin Lane? No, I know that that sounds like a name. That's real, all right, And they also have on the opposite side. James Pierre like these are the backups to starter Cameron Sutton and starter Joe Hayden. All right, um, in the secondary, look, make a Fitzpatrick is awesome. All pro natural Adams. Obviously we know who he is, but you know who's behind them at safety, A rookie a rookie named Let me get his first name here. Make sure Trey Norwood trainer was a rookie safety. So They? They have some questions some questions at depth in the secondary and I agree with you. I don't think Joe Haden is quite the level of player he was when he was going to Pro Bowls. He's is he lost that team. Supposing, number one is that well? Well, the heat Their defensive, according to Butler was asked about that this week and he said, I'm not going to tell you what we're going to do, but we will have a plan for Stefan Diggs. They better. I mean, not many teams didn't Yeah, no, That's the thing they did have plans first founded the next wouldn't work out. 80305 50. You can join us. You give us a call and hop on with us at any point here. 1 88 5 52 5 50 have another comment at the Facebook feed. Sell about the run game for the bills. You know, we talk about the Steelers Najee Harris. The Bills run game is Devin Singletary going to showcase? What's different about his body is what everyone has said is different about people. People have a lot to say about the changes he made. And he talked about, you know, in the off season having goals, the team asked him to do some things as trainer. They're watching this film all this like, will we see Singletary? Get off a little bit with that today. I like to point out Brian Devil's schemes up very favorable looks for Singletary and has his entire career so I know the looks Are there at the lion has to do its part, and then from there, it's on the backs. It's something that I think it's not a weakness of the team. It's a place they could Get a little bit more of an edge more from the backs. The Singletary lead the way with that this year. I think initially he does. You know last night we all do these these radio spots around the country. I'm on Sirius NFL radio late last night, And they specifically asked for a fantasy purpose. Question. The same question. Fantasy purposes, Devin Singletary see the guy. My answer to them was the same thing. I'm going to say everybody right now, which is I think Devin Singletary is the lead back. So to speak. Now, I think there's separation. I think Zack Moss lack of availability..

"Now. Yeah not necessarily yeah. It's the steelers lost. This game forty five zero. I'd be a little bit exactly. It depends how they win or lose the game. You know if if this is one of those twenty seven twenty four games or something like that okay. Is it great. No is it going to sting. Yes is it the end of the world season over now now but if it's forty five did nothing. Oh my gosh. i don't wanna do a podcast after game like that next week because you know someone will have to make sure i've taken my blood pressure medicine Because of all the yelling. I'll be doing so i mean if the opened up at home against one of the teams ranked at the bottom like the jets or something like that and they lose then you. That's when you flip out but the steelers are playing a quality opponent on the road. So this is. I mean it's really gonna show us a lot and like i said it depends on how they win or lose the game because if the bills come out and have eight turnovers at the steelers you know get by because the bills missa field goal to win the game at the end. That's not going to still confidence either. Say it's not so it really you know to me. The bills are better coach than that. I don't see that happening now but at the same time it it really depends on how the game is played it honestly sound awful like preseason week four when we were saying you know the steelers are going out here. They're not playing their starters. You want to see the be competitive. It doesn't matter if they win and this isn't it doesn't matter if you don't want to because it's the right. She's it's very it's important but then they can't play the way they did. You know what i'm saying. A sub sub one. We make sure. Because i'll pull it up so if someone you know if i had that forty five zero game like i'm talking about pittsburgh said knee-jerk reaction will be one giants wearing rent. Swear jar will be. My kid's college will be paid for in full in cash by what the swear jar looks like exactly exactly so. Let's get into some more of these things that we said that when we were asking the question of kevin steele's bring it all together for week one. Yup the defense. I mean we're just talking. I mean in order to talk about the more we were setting up a little bit even more in this half is it's there's there's a lot doing on with this more than just points four points against and everything else so the defense. What does defense to bring together in order to have a greater chance of winning this game on sunday anything particularly you want to start with the sure. Why not. let's go with the first. Let's go with the obvious first. Okay okay is tracy. Jordan watt on the field. There you go. that's the you know. We talked about a lot in the first half. We talked about the contract situation coach. Tomlin says he expects them to practice tomorrow. He said he they even asked what you're expecting this because of conversations you've had and he's like i'm not telling you about conversations we've that he's leaving that between us so i don't blame him there but he has coached. Tom has all the confidence that they're he's going to be practicing tomorrow. At available week one. The question is how available but also coached almonds like man i've got i've got no reservations. About added snaps to melvin ingram. Third very happy with what he's brought to the steelers and jeffrey. I already talked about jeffries in the cutting room floor. Something else that he brought up on. I'm pretty sure it was on that one. I've listened to sony podcast. The i can't remember which one it is. I think it was general. I'm giving credit jeffrey. Even if it's not jeffrey because he's got a great geoffrey. Geoffrey deserves credit. Exactly and it was. The steelers wouldn't have kept only four outside linebackers if they didn't expect to play yup they would've kept more. So yes i'm gonna bring up the question of because of last year. Last year jeffrey benedict steelers vertex. After the bills game and it was basically. I think it was the game or was even an off season. I can't remember it all runs together. Twenty two hundred articles in three years. We'll do that to you. What happened with the bills as they scored two touchdowns coming out of the second half. And that's was the difference in the game and then move the ball so well all they did was move steph on the other side to get him away from steven nelson on camp sudden. And that's what they did and then the steelers adjusted well after touchdowns. Yeah after two touchdowns. But there's no stephen us now but he was joe haden in that game. Snag joe haden back but you really have to question what's going on at the cornerback. Position is especially with everything going on with sub package. I did an article today where coach tomlin basically laughed about it and said hey you notice that we didn't put us lot corner him position on the on the depth chart. Yeah we did that on purpose. But he didn't just. Because i'm planning to close to the vest and other words should i. Well the thing is people like is it that he doesn't know they still aren't sure they're still trying to work it out or even better. Do we have to know because in telling us you're.

"You rippin six guys. Just talking shooting the Listen the best part about bill belichick is. He's the same guy you see on television in the like. I almost started laughing on our monday morning. Rip session. I mean pat. Nee jay know what that is you come in there. The coach phil. What the hell are we do. Tom starts yelling. We talked about this all week and we sucked it off right here in front of everybody. It's it's amazing. Like i'm almost dying so it was comical. Because it's so satirical that you couldn't be real But i enjoyed up there. He's a little bit different. He goes about things a different way. My dad played up with the giants when he was up there. So i kind of knew what i was getting into. I think bill told me that you're not going to be smart ass like you'd like just know what a bunch of guys that's kind of how it goes with bill He's one of the best. I'm telling you this. If you're a pats fan they'll be better this year. They're going to be a team or more. No challenge buffalo bill. Belichick is too smart pointing poorly again. Speaking of another famous bill you played for bill ourselves. You were drafted by bill parcells. What was he like is he. Your dad played for him as well. So you knew going into it. But it wasn't what you expected. Yeah you know. It's amazing is bill. Belichick schematic guy. He's not great on the personal relationships. As you can imagine. Not like the most touchy feely. Warm guy in the world But when you think about parcells everybody looks at him like this evil guy tough tarred to handle. He is one of the greatest guys dealing with relationships and being able to motivate players that you're ever going to find and two quick stories on the late great cherry glen haege a highest state. Belinda cough winter. He's like in his twelfth year in dallas on down there and we're planning in the playoffs and he comes in and terri would get there you you guys all know we're supposed to be there. You know ninety minutes before the game or two hours. Whatever it is terry would show up like forty five minutes before the game. I'm not kidding you like in street. Clothes get taped up. Throw a stuff on. Just walk out there. And so in his locker bill had gotten thing buckeye leaves and puts it on. There's aj's lost interest already on there and he's like hey and on digital blocker says ernie's tonight so terry is being terry doesn't care about getting fine tells us bucket. Leaves off like slaps on the back of the great game. You know and it's like that that's the kind of stuff he does. And i think that was like the last game and then my rookie. Year of playoffs seattle infamous romo snap game and were sending there in the tunnel and i'm right beside him getting ready to run out and this is carl. Bill knew everybody find out. What exactly makes you tick and you looks over at me. Ready to go ready to go play. Offs right is overby and stares back at me. Your dad used to play games like this. And i kind of look away. Look back and he'd just walked off like okay. Thanks for giving me that. The chew on here for the next sixty minutes but he knew like he knew that i'd get ju- stop and get me going like inside. So that's that's the type of stuff that he would find ways for every guy to like just needle. You're just enough to bring your where you can really play your best. What an incredible motivator when redrafted. Where were you drafted at. What was the number. Two thousand six i think pick eighteen. I wanna to say that was so. Aj one five overall. You want eighteen now. Slagelse being tasked with building the jacksonville. Jaguars down there. Are you guys. The most legendary linebacker core history college both famous maybe infamous cover the usa today sports section. So i got that like my mom's guide frames hanging in her house. But we we had a good crewman. Aj and i are probably the two famous to mean.

"Know what's band. That was though. I couldn't tell you i was having the bag anyway. We got we bus taking the sack kids. I'm sleeping in. I you young so i i did. It was like a smaller texas deal. And he was it was a great crewman donnie nelson. The gm for the mavs was there with this went and we had probably ten people a good time. You're the most interesting human i've ever met. I think i mean just a week ago. Two weeks ago you were in a full. Tarzan cautious falls out and everything for a circus to raise money for the ohio state. I children's hospital. You had military grade boots on your cutting from all night. You are fantastic human being. Has anybody ever approach you for like a reality. Show anything like that. I assume that that has to happen on a regular listen. May i don't know if i could handle reality show. I don't know my wife could handle me being on a reality show. Joey galloway used to work out age. Him and bribes would come back and joy. Joey said i should be a pro wrestler. Laryngitis would back that up. But i mean. I can't imagine traveling around doing that every single week. My body feels bad enough as it is right now after playing football you know. It's it's beaten to a paul but maybe some reality tv. I mean i don't. I could probably handle some of that. Your best play with the patriots. Huge patriots fan here. Connor has a question forty. Bob bob yeah you play for the patriots. I knew that. Did you ever have any runs in with bill belichick. And did you guys have any back and forth m. d. esque or no is it strictly business over there. I don't even know what that last thing met. "On his truck and get the heck out of you like what. If what did i sign up for. But he looks terrific. That mullets flowing. It's looking golden obviously looks like a high school kid because that's what he is but i mean this is the new era man i mean people are able to profit off their name image likeness. Get the school early patriots school. You can learn a little football. Get paid to do it. like i say. Losers general bob the only loser that you have led an army into was the big ten commissioner right. I mean he didn't wanna play football. And i know in the presidential campaign there was one particular person instead i brought back on the big ten and we all quickly relied. We'll we'll we'll ovo. General bob carpenter brought back big ten football and you wrote really boots on the ground you ever morning show there in columbus a lot of college football conversation. We appreciate everything you've done but at the college football landscape is about to change. I guess there's a pack twelve big ten in. Sec press conference coming up. I think we talk to herbstreet about the realignment talking about. There's probably going to be four players in this thing. The playoffs going gonna go. What are your thoughts guy who is fully invested in college football on what the future college football looks like right now. Well i think it's kind of trending towards nfl light. It depends on how three some of these schools want to be. If you're you're an elite program let's say for argument's maybe there's between eighteen and thirty and they wanna to form their own league. Say we're gonna do the nfl deal right now. We're gonna have arlen. Tv rights agreement. We're gonna skim everything off the top and just keep like six billion dollars for ourselves and divide you know amongst art our teams. They could do that. I think this alliance that you're kind of alluding to between the pac twelve big ten and i think. Acc they've kinda wanna slow that down and keep it kind of where it is and look at expansion for the play offs and everything and make sure doing the right way. But you know. I hear this. The alliance thought conference wasn't alliance. You have that. And they're saying this. And meanwhile bob bos be greg. Thank you you're working together trying to bring football back all the wild great sankey is i got the poison pill and there does pull over texas and so you know he's just like cuckold him right out from under him. I guess i'm looking at this big office fan. You know. this is kind of like the office alliances. Actually we've got going on with like jim and dwight and kevin and everything else. That's going on it. I don't really know how it makes any sense. I thought a conference wasn't alliance. Maybe this is more like a more like a pack. You know american pie like american pie. Tactic ruined go on senior trip and lose our virginia together. Aj show pat how that's done. And maybe that's kind of the alliance the pack that they're trying to form. Okay bob you played for the detroit. Lions motorcity dan. Campbell is the head coach. He's made a lot of headlines. Another head coach that makes them headlines. Nick serianni in philly. Sometimes we get. We play a lot of clips from both of those guys out of those two guys. Who do you think has success. I think both of them could be successfully. Both them may stink. Like what do you think. The outlook is for both of those guys. Here's the thing. Dan campbell plays the meathead and he has a meathead like deep down. But he's also smart meathead like he does the meat head things so that people just kind of disregard them and think that he's an idiot and then that's a great way to avoid tough questions they're asking him about bite kneecaps and all that nonsense. He relates to his players. Really well he talks about toughness and they're doing up downs but from everything i've heard of detroit. All those guys really love them there. They call him a free breath of fresh air. You love them to do loves the party. i keep his kind of circum mike variable. They're very similar. Really cerebral guys very intelligent But they love to party dan. i'd never played with him but he lived in dallas in the off season. Because that's where it came from before he went to detroit as a player. I mean he'd be out there. You know chugging. Jack rippin heaters is a great story. So you don't have. You've never had sex yet. Dan campbell. We went to this. This like this streak that went to this concert out in east texas probably an hour and a half away from dallas on a saturday night. You know we're young coordinated having kids we both go. It's a bunch of guys and he gave me one other white with and we can see this kind of up and coming country band. Couldn't even remember who it was. But it's in the middle of nowhere. Imagine a city like inbetween. Indianapolis and columbus excluding dayton and. That's basically where this was so we're getting ready to roll up. We got a bus. It's like twelve o'clock. Hey dan we're getting out of here. It's saturday night. Tomorrow's mother's day. Dan's got two kids. Lovely wife holly back at home. And he's like. I'm gonna stay here with the band. What the heck. I do an hour and a half from dallas. There's no uber. that's even coming out. This is two thousand seven. We try to beat autumn. like dude. whitten's there with and she's like listen man. Come on being a good friend. You'll thank me for tomorrow now. No i'm good. i'm good. I rips support jack. I i'll see you guys later and my man stay there. Somehow he's still married. His wife didn't leave him after that which must be a testament smoothie soccer he is. You're you're rolling in the next day at noon as a thirty two year. Old man with a couple of kids on mother's day and she is going to be gone on my gosh dude. I don't know what you have or what you might be able to say to get you out of that one. I'll tell you what man say wife wifi drank too much fucking.

"I think that was one of the only by much. Rather the fans. The energy The pre warm ups just having the people out there. I mean it's during a preseason just reminded me just having it during the hall of fame game just being out there that how much fans believe brings to the game you know just having a mighty silicon performing like it is what it is like you obviously will. They weren't there. It's a business you're going to make sure your take matters you perform because this is what you use your job your professional but that extra that you get when everybody's out there. They're screaming and going crazy like their blood flow. Mean you can't you can't buy. I think the vet suffered more than the young guys. Obviously because when you're young you still have that you know useful energy like i'm in the nfl in the nfl. The vets guy. I'm bob to run on the energy from getting nice. It's amazing you guys got through there. Is there any wide receivers. That don't get talked about for being as good as they are. Obviously there's the guys that we all talked about but is there anybody that you've got against you you there. There's not a lot of conversation about dude. Dude is a absolute baller. I say well. Maybe i think step on the probably gets his love Keenan island. I think he gives you more of love as far as just up. Top one of the best receivers Days kim allah that. What makes the guy heart is it. The routes is it the size the speed. What is it is a little bit of everything everything everything they making do Outside so i'm covering those x.'s. In if they like la. Julio jones is one of the best for a long time they big strong bass can run. The routes physical is catch point. And we we say we i. It sounds cliche but they can really do all of that stuff. I mean gone out there sometimes. I mean i'm looking like mingka ever. Do you ever watch guys on tv when they're playing and you see them get beat deep and you watch your more grab the old hammy and pull that old. Pat go coming and grabbed on me again ono. That's for sure. I'm not full in that because everybody anybody ever said about his may like it. I like it. You have a favorite interception out evolve. Is there one that you really love that. I think the My tom brady one. That i had with the steelers prior to that was one of them. Assign it no like that. I got i got. I got chance to watch peyton operate for couple of years. You know and i watch somebody walk-ups with the football that they picked off from in that game and ask them. How's this going to go. I imagine if we want you to fuck out. Do i think he signed very nice because it was one of those moments where it was kind of awkward. There's bad guy if he doesn't you know think it was a four seen. Who's a full scene out there. And why those quarterbacks better why are they. Great great quarterback position. Your is like ban obviously is going to be a hall of famer but what separates like like a quarterback. That can really do it. You think pre-snap post that and what's separate what is like what the young quarterbacks what's this graduation. You think trait that. They kind of get as they grow on her. I think the one thing is understanding defenses in in-depth being able to throw people open. I think that's the one part that all great quarterbacks do is a lotta good defenses is a lot of people planning and like blend does but the great ones great great great passes always gonna be great coverage so them being able to put balls. Nba with saying the confidence in their receivers to be imple- catches ball or is going to be out of bounds. Being able to take those. Chances noah matchups sometimes if you are looking out there in a game do ben is the like our. He's on him. I'm gonna go there. You know what i'm saying. It's just sometimes it's that easy that just do a distinction of the game so big so much going on. The great ones are like this. All right matchups ball placement. I'm like that is just kind of seems simple but it would quarterback has so much through the head. They get the thinking about too much last thing here for me. But when you see these quarterbacks and they come in and like pat settling you describe what the great ones do. Can you see that early on from day. "Filmed a segment so we filmed for about thirty minutes. Car segment. actually. It was terrible. Just jammed it in for some reason i have. I had no reason to be there but we were gonna film something zone. I believe and so once everybody was done me. And you're like all right. I guess we'll just hit the keithly member now. tiki was i taught. Thomas davis that was tough. Obviously jesus christ loves you. Know the top of the whole thing but when you showed up you saved us. We're in the middle of a lot of conversations that we're not gonna drink for sure. Oh yeah is or something. Wrangling come on pat. Did you see when they throw yup brett farve okay. Let's talk. lauper is brought him up. show us he said. The kids should not be tackling football. And i literally just based on jesuit walking off an eight year olds practice harder your thoughts on brett farve thoughts on on football stuff but we can get into breakfast thoughts on everything else brett farve thing but your thoughts on brett farve saying hey. Cpt's real thing there. They shouldn't be damaged that young age. As being coach of those young age kids tackling each other thoughts age eighty. Something i think about all the time. I think about that at my kids practice. Yeah i was. I knew brett had talked about in the past right like different issues that he may have suffered from but to see the produced like peace slash commercial infomercial. He did it for like what the kid a little bit. And then like medium brett and then current daybreak. They're all talking about young rock. It will not that you didn't see that the video put out of him. Yeah no it's a video. It's a whole product for this production that they put together and had like a guy representing little mid medium britain. Old brittany's talking. Yeah you guys need to watch the whole thing. My mom actually texted me about it. She's like have you seen this video. I had no idea he was against kids. Point football and all that. And so. I mean yeah. There's a kid. They hired an actor to be young. Brett was the guy that Was teaching david how to plays most recent role in the movie the playing old breath or which one who what else is bred against. I don't know what is he. Just you know. I was just wondering how young brett farve there's medium breath. Sean astin bennett terry. He's young any such a young jet black hair back when he was young. I guess listed little make jelly. Exactly what you're saying. Yeah listen too. Many kids is it a real thing. How long is this video. It's one minute. I don't know if i could play it or not. A zoom in on that bottom. How many two hundred four thousand four two four two four point eight people have seen this video deal jay. You're part of the problem not solution. We know numbers are down like with youth football over the country. So i would imagine. This isn't going to help them. Numbers are down for. Nfl does what do you mean. What do you mean. This was my take Whenever all the war on is out there saying hey we're not gonna have enough people playing or whatever you know. Yeah by palm barlow whose kids reporting run into each other. I don't care about the sites. Okay down there in south florida there fucking run it into each other young age. Okay everybody i think live neighborhoods where people end up in the nfc centerville. I don't fucking stopping serve ohio. There's a lot of the neighborhoods that produce a large portion of the nfl people Players in the nfl. I i don't think that war on football ever tracked into their community ever. I understand that brad might open some other people's eyes. But i don't think there's you know what i mean. I don't think that's ever going to happen. Be down like orange county and montoc but never conard. Where was school. You went to Buckingham. brian nichols occur off of coordinator. The seattle seahawks. Are you talking about. That's cool talk all right. Well no pat and who. I think it was l'amante david who came on here. Who said they were doing. Oklahoma drills and alleys like. I don't think those kids are not playing football anymore because of the science either. Now there's there's portions of america where law the nfl guys come from okay. I happen to be from one of them. And i'm not an actual football player. I'm just a guy punt kick them but tackle. Football is never gonna stop. It doesn't matter how many doctor will smith's come out. It doesn't matter it's not it's the brett farve can do a young rock all right and have different stages abrek do that thing and i think that's very admirable but i think there's going to be people that are always gonna be against bullshit you know there's just always gonna be that because both provides such an opportunity for a lot of things for so many people i mean it is in a teaches like all sports although yeah you wanna keep head injuries out. You don't need we know it's not good for any young kid to to bang his head off his teammates in practice and in games. But it's like you got to look at everything though. I think if the valuable life lessons you learned like you've heard tom brady kind of talk. About what playing football being on a team has done for his life and how it's affected every aspect. So there's a lot on the positives negatives. Hey i grew up in the football community was was a culture shock to you when you actually finally on a team in west virginia fulltime. Yes one thousand percent. It was like galileo. Was it different way different than any other sport like soccer team or anything else. Yeah so like. I think soccer team locker room. You know soccer's like marathon sport. You're not so. I think everybody's like it's a different mentality baseball. Like your casually have more games and just hanging out more yeah. It's just a much more relaxed. I think also the diversity. I think now it was different. You know like. I got a chance to play with guys that grew up in long island new jersey and all over the place you know and like the most middle east i. I had some middle eastern teammates and everything like that that was teammates with and it was interesting. You know they can fascinating learning about the world that way but football you learn about america quick like i learned a lot more about america. I football locker room in the lessons. That i learned you know through football as opposed to what the soccer environment isn't a soccer culture is as opposed to the football culture. It's like i feel like. I fit in like soon as i wanted to a football awkward months ago. I feel like this is where i probably should have been for a long time even though i was incredibly intimidated for incredibly just quiet but it felt like just like that atmosphere not only interacting with people but relying on people that are much different than us to do their jobs so that you can be happy..

"joe haden" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain

"Looking at what. The pittsburgh steelers should use their newfound cap space for here in the twenty twenty one season. If you didn't already know the pittsburgh steelers have conferred even more money onto their books by restructuring the deal of steph onto it converting that money newest signing bonus and pushing that cap it further into the future a move that many thought would have happened way back at really at the start of free agency doesn't end up happening until here now in august. So what does that all mean for the steelers salary cap situation. Basically right now they sit at seventeen and a half million dollars cap space however. That really isn't the true number of how much money they technically have right now to. Really kinda break things down that seventeen and a half million dollars. Of course the steelers like to have some emergency spending money to go into the season. It's about five to six million dollars. Kind of goes towards that there also has to be a little bit more money it on the books from that rule of fifty one to the fifty three man roster of course adding two more contracts to that cap number on top of that really. There's a few things. The steelers need to take into consideration as well as building out their practice squad. So all of that will count to roughly around nine and a half million dollars or so so that leaves the steelers with upwards of eight nine million dollars of capable spending money again. Some of that will be kind of eaten up by tj. What extension however and. That's the first thing. I want to talk about the way the steelers new spend this money. Obviously by opening up a ton of cash a lot of people just instantly thought. Oh that's just going to end up in tj watts pocket really. That's not a hundred percent. The case tj water of course on the signing that signing air the fifth year option here in twenty twenty one so basically a new contract really isn't going to change too much of this year's capital his signing bonus could very well Depending on how much of that guaranteed money. Tj watt signs for however. It really shouldn't impact it salary-cap whatsoever really the potential. Here's for the steelers salary cap to kind of shrink but between one to five million dollars kind of depending how it all shapes up but most of the signing bonus money is really going to be stuff that hammers the salary cap in future years so while there will be some sort of impact here in two thousand twenty one especially with the size of the deal. It isn't something that we particularly have to worry about. What basically it comes down to now is the steelers will have about an extra six million dollars that they never have at this time of year and really that number could could grow even more with two pretty simple deals. First and foremost the steelers could create more seller cat by completing the final Salary restructure that they possibly could make here in twenty twenty one by restructuring. The deal of chris boswell which would open up a little more than a million bucks. Every dollar counts of course in the nfl but at this point it really wouldn't make too much more sense other than pushing more money into the future. The other thing the steelers could do and something i think is a whole lot. More likely is a joe haden contract extension and one of the reasons. Why it's more likely is because joe hayden and his agent have approached the steelers about basically putting a contract extension in place to have a deal. That joe haden can ride out the end of his career for and in doing so really. The steelers gained a ton of leverage in this situation because Joe haden saying he wants to retire steelers. The steelers aren't obligated to offer him a ton of money. Of course joe. Hayden is one of the highest paid players at his position in nfl history. So i there's also that sense prop joe hayden would be willing to take a significant pay-cut to continue his career with the block and gold and try to help win a championship for the first time in his career. So the potential is there for that and really if an extension is agreed upon and the steelers turn joins basically what's left on his contract in a signing bonus. The steelers could clear about four million dollars cap space. That hasn't been done yet. But if the steelers are really wanna be big game fishing like it. Kind of appears they are. That's a move. They could definitely consider making as of this moment. The steelers have about six million dollars in free cap space that they don't typically use at this point in the year to sign outside player or make some sort of secondary deal as in a trade. They could open up. Another million bucks by restructuring. Chris boswell and another and another up to four million dollars with joe. Haden sooners potential. The steelers could spend up to a eleven million dollars on outside players. That are not on this team at this current moment. How should the steelers spend the six million dollars or up to eleven million dollars is really. That's a big question surrounding us here. And now because really the steelers never needed to restructure that contract of steph onto to get t g what done so something is coming i. It really has to. Of course his team has been all in on the twenty twenty one season. The amount of void year deals put together Pushing a bunch of joe schubert's money. The newly acquired joe show bert into the future. Really what the steelers are doing is kind of pushing a little bit of the problem into the future but setting themselves up to be a significantly improved team and a team that will make a run at a title here in two thousand twenty one. So they're going right now. They're exhausting every option. They have the money they're going to spend it and really before. I continue on how they should spend that money. I know there's a lot of people saying. Oh maybe the steelers just wanna roll some salary cap over into twenty twenty two but hear me out on this. The steelers warmed to say money in two thousand twenty two. What's the point of restructuring steph onto to begin with by restructuring that money the steals are pushing cap it to next year. If they don't spend it then they effectively really haven't done anything at all. What was the point of all that. The point is to make the team better here in the future and the steelers have a significant amount of cap space. They do not normally have at this time of the year. So a couple moves that kind of makes sense for the pittsburgh steelers. Really you have to look up and down the roster quarterback the steelers have four guys that obviously they're very comfortable with and you're not finding anyone there. The running back room is stock to the gills. As is the receiver. Anti dan room. I thoroughly believe the steelers have trust in their guards and really there isn't any center that's is going to step in and kind of supply kinder- green is the guy especially here now at this point in the year the could be in the market for tackle and of course names will be something we check in a little bit later on the could be in on the tackle market. There are some free agents available such as a mitchell schwartz and they're potentially some guys available via trade so that is a spot to keep in mind defensively. The steelers are loaded on the defensive line. They're loaded on edge. They're loaded inside linebacker now they have one of if not the best free safety in the game and they have one elite corner in the joe haden and outside of that they've had some issues with the other cornerback spot which kind of seems like more of a competition than what we're expecting between camp sudden and james peer aside from that trail edmonds didn't get his fifth year option so potentially the steelers could be looking at to maybe adding to that safety room. Of course the depth spots that safety is not a strength of this team. Special teams wise. I would also say the steelers are quite loaded. So i i'm not. I'm not worried about them. Trying to find another kick returner gun or someone to run down the field. They have more than plenty of those types of guys so really the spots right now that you can kind of hone in on our either tackle spot but more namely left tackle corner and perhaps safety depth because the steelers right now. I think they're quite confident. And everything else they have on the roster but really once again the steelers have a ton of money that they still kind of put themselves in a situation to spend so something is surely coming down the pipeline. We will get into the names of the trade targets. They should be after in the second. Half of this podcast. But we're going to jump into a quick commercial break and we will be back in just a minute so stay tuned for the second. Half of the live mike. "Already pittsburgh steelers fans. It is time for the second. Half of the live mike podcasts. And why the pittsburgh steelers are such an over hated team in the nfl. It it's like clockwork If the steelers make a move all the gotta find the negatives in this one of the things with the melvin ingram signings people trying to say all the steelers defense is old because they have cam hayward joe haden tyson allows old vince. Williams's old melvin. Ingram sold well. Guess what the the only guys that are over thirty. That are fulltime. Starters of those names are listed. Joe haden cam hayward cam hayward is arguably the second best defensive lineman in the nfl. Joe haden has not lost a step. The other guys are either primary backups. Or i guess in vince williams case a fringe starter. So the some of these. These people are just trying to get some sort of a rise. I think steelers nation tour trying to make people believe that. This team isn't good when in reality they are. It's one of those kind of things. You gotta just shake your head. 'cause the pittsburgh steelers by all means if everything clicks. There's no reason why they can't be competing for championship this year. And there's people that will laugh at that statement but then come january. There's a pretty good shot. They'll be one of the teams. That are will a playoff team. By far which. I think are will surprise a lot of people but it shouldn't and have a very good chance winning this division. I think they have the best chance right now off winning the division over the browns the ravens which people will laugh you out of a room right now but honest to go. i think that's the right mindset right now for this team unless they run into some serious injury problems and matt canada's system just doesn't work which by all means it. It's the opposite of that. I do not think you can fairly say his pittsburgh. Steelers team isn't good. I think the steelers floor is a seven one team. I think at worst. They're nine and eight team. I think that's their floor. There ceilings probably like tw- Man like 'cause they messed up the schedule. It's just hard to come up with the the the week by week predictions anymore. But i don't know twelve and five thirteen and four. Yeah they have a hard schedule but the steelers team is pretty loaded. They still have a top three defense in the nfl. And this offense is pretty underrated. Especially ben roethlisberger is as healthy and as competitive as these reports are saying they're going to be pretty darn good too and they have a good special teams unit so this hey is just one of the things that make your eyes roll and one of the places that people want to point the finger at is mike tomlin and this is a direction that many steeler fans like to point the finger in as well which is kind of one of those things that always makes me roll my eyes. 'cause my thomann is still generally one of the best coaches in the nfl players. Absolutely love him. Melvin ingram chose to play for the steelers over the chiefs or the chiefs the team. That has backed back. Represented the scene the super bowl and as a starting position on the edge. Open some more playing time probably comparable money and if people in the national media are to be believed a significantly better shot at lombardi this year. Melvin ingram choose the steelers over that. And why is that. Because mike tomlin is beloved and furthermore to that point andy. Reid is beloved. He's one of the favorite player coaches. There are in football and melvin. Ingram chose mike tomlin over that because how much players respect him. That means something. I mean something to mean. It shouldn't be something you especially. If you are a pittsburgh steelers fan mike. Tomlin has gone. The finger pointed his way a few times in the last What six calendar months has it been fair. I think in some senses. It is like the whole not living in our fierce thing back in the playoffs then punting on what fourth in one when the steelers were storming back in that game against the cleveland browns and a of halton momentum on what could have been monumental comeback. Yeah that sucked. But mike tomlin is still put this team in position to win year in and year out there a competitive mindset. The pittsburgh steelers are never in window now mode because they're only mode is win now. That is the pittsburgh steelers mo but yet they get pointed out until they're do To to flop each and every year mason rudolph could be the quarterback. It doesn't matter mike. Tomlin can get the most out of his team and get them passed a winning record. Sure a winning record isn't the ultimate goal in the nfl. Lombardi is but the pittsburgh steelers on a team. That's just going to roll over and loose. That's not them this. This unit. This team under mike tomlin is going to win and push for championship. Each and every single year does that. Mean they don't get a top ten freaking nature pick. Yeah guess what. They haven't done that in a very long time. They had a trade up for devon bush at number ten and he wasn't healthy last year. He tours. acl so they're freaking nature pick. They're finally getting back this year. So that's another reason to be high on this team past the coaching staff. The injured guys coming back or substantial. Remember joe haden play the playoff game because a cova and speaking of covert regardless think of the vaccine the teams that have more fully vaccinated. Players will be at a significant advantages here. Because they don't have to test they don't have to miss time without having it and the pittsburgh steelers by all means by what the reports are coming out right now have the highest rate in the nfl. Pittsburgh steelers are at a significant advantage compared to a lot of teams and they're still a handful that don't have half the roster fully vaccinated regardless if that happens or not as steeler fans. You can expect your players your favorite players to be on the field each and every week because they bought into what the coaching staff is telling them..

"Yeah. So for me Green Bay definitely I think you and I both agree. I Green Bay was an interesting team. They have the draft capital. They have the quarterback to maximize. They have the new ofensive coach coaches, you know, looking to build some excitement and everything sort of lined up. I think they're already a good team. You know, they could get the most out of them. So I think they're number one on my list of intriguing teams. I think Green Bay is number one for me as well. I would say maybe if I picking nave c team. I would say maybe Tennessee, maybe Denver are in that range for me. I think he made a good point about the colts in terms of how they're building. I see the onfield fit the off it is not there. But I mean, I I think there's options in both conferences in terms of what you know, people who would be interested. I think there's going to be legitimate market for Tonio Brown. If the Steelers aside, they really do want to go through with this. Yep. I agree with you. It's fascinating veal building. This whole thing is interesting that a player may be able to force the Steelers to trade them. That's amazing. Yeah. Situation where the the talked about the cap situation for it. I mean the Steelers save no money basically in this year by trading Antonio Brown. I it's it's almost unprecedented in terms of waiting this much on though, you do if you if you if you wait in trade after doing one they get a lot of relief. So some of those scenarios had that. But that's a hard one to do. Because then everyone's drafted rosters were full everyone thinks they're good. Then. You just eating more money next year. And then, you know, you haven't you haven't had the opportunity unless you're cutting him as a post you and I released which I don't think they're going to they said, they aren't going to do then you haven't you don't really have an opportunity to spend that money. You might have a guy like Joe Haden sneak through was a late cut and then signed him. But I mean, it's it's it's it's tricky to pull this off in a way that makes the Steelers of better team in two thousand nineteen. Agreed.
