"That time that there was probably roughly 16 to 17 victims in the school and most of them were children So again at that time you can not believe what you're hearing Soon he found out it was even worse 19 children and two teachers had been shot and killed The case was so grisly and so unlike anything Diaz had ever faced he called the chief medical examiner in San Antonio for help While he waited for her to make the 80s some mile drive to ivaldi DIA sat in his car and tried to steal himself And of course he was just putting my head in the right frame of mind because you know it's going to be a tough scene But nothing could have prepared him for what was waiting for him inside the school The same school that he himself had attended as a child It's something you never want to see It's a picture that's going to stay in my head forever And that's where I like for it to stay Diaz won't share anymore In order to spare others the burden what he does say is that the process of identifying the children was gory and agonizing The AR-15 the weapon the gunman used at rob elementary is designed to blow targets apart Unfortunately Diaz has now seen firsthand what such a weapon does to small children The rangers the police were getting with the families together pictures maybe what they were wearing Diaz says those details were crucial to identifying the disfigured bodies Diaz also had to confront another chilling discovery at rob elementary Among the dead still lying on the floor was an old classmate of his Irma Garcia She's one of the two teachers killed that day She was one year younger than me through junior high and high school Diaz also knew her husband Joe Garcia Years ago they worked together at the only grocery store in town Two days after his wife erma was shot Garcia died of a heart attack When Diaz heard the news at that point I was just devastating Now I feel terrible for the family It just keeps getting worse and worse Back in his office.

These are not the remnants of the propertied class or the the cuban coolmax as it were. This is the children of the revolution. And you notice that both in cuba those who are fighting are under thirty and you notice. Akwa Lung Therapeutics. He's working to advanced therapies to hit these novel targets to treat unchecked inflammation with the company's lead experimental therapeutic candidate targeting arts. We spoke to Garcia about the company's arts. Therapy how it works. And why it's time we focus given the cove nineteen pandemic Joe. Thanks for joining us. To be here thing we're going to talk about Aqua Lung Therapeutics Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome or arts and your efforts to develop a treatment for this condition. Let's start with ours though. What is it and how big a health challenge? Does it represent about half a million people. Every year get air F- Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in the United States alone. And you know close to two million. Maybe globally so it's it's not a uncommon Disorder But it is a extremely challenging to treat disorder because mortality of this. Anyone that had gets a yard is Thirty to forty percents In the US and it's probably higher Outside the US what makes it so challenging to treat? Well it's It's sort of the ultimate in inch in the stress to To a human being in that They have multiple attacks on a variety of Oregon starting with the lung though the the most common causes of ARD s are sepsis which is infection in the bloodstream and trauma and Smoking elation will do it and that Curiel and viral pneumonias and so as a result the starts off with inflammation in the lung from those particular Causes the inflammation becomes waves waves of amplify inflammation that starts to affect other organs. Like your kidneys and heart and ultimately patients with AIDS wind up. They don't survive. They die from that multi organ failure and that he's organs weren't able to sustain the inflammatory injury we've heard a lot about the respiratory challenges that can occur to people infected with the covid nineteen virus are the ones who end up on respirators suffering from arts and what role does arts play in the mortality of patients with Covid nineteen arches probably the primary cause of death in most of the cove in nineteen patients. At least that's what the the reports from China and elsewhere suggesting Covid NINETEEN INDUCE. Cards has a lot of similarities to garden variety area but it also has some unique changes that that may not be typical. Air S. as well and The ventilator Think this is an important part of the story. That patients with With Kobe nineteen viral infection or other causes of Respiratory distress like I mentioned substance or bacterial pneumonia trauma and you have Increasing respiratory distress your lungs. Start to fill with Lewis and the work of breathing when your lungs are. Our full of fluid is very very rate. So these patients generally run out of Energy the fatigue and they need then later to help with their respiration and so the the the the irony of of this is that the ventilator while saving your life because your new patients for an out of energy agreed on their own then later also the major cause for information as well. That's been known for now sometime and so strategies to address a yes whether it's cove nineteen induced or otherwise need to take into account the fact that then later contributes to that inflammatory burden patients with they as an academic. "Are you concerned? I mean, we're disappointed it's onto Houston. Houston is going to be. Tough in their house at the Toyota center, then it's on to Boston. Are you concerned about the Spurs right now? I'm not concerned about the Spurs right now at look right now at this point in time they've come together as a team you like the communication that. You're seeing out there on the court, especially when it comes to them playing defense. They're like I said alluded to they point two spots on the floor. They talk to each other. They call out, you know, who's going to be setting the screen. You know, they're they're they're active on that. In see you like all that that you're seeing right now, the only thing that could concern me as I think they just need to start. Again, you need to start going to lamarcus Aldridge more and having the offense kind of float through him a little bit more because it just seems to be more efficient when it gets to go through lamarcus. They need to get him going early. Same thing with demar derozan. You want your best players in rhythm early in the game that way carries over to four quarters of play. And it makes everything easier for the other role players as well. Because once your your best players are in rhythm. They're they're going to be looking for the open shooter. They feel more confident they're playing at a much higher level. And I'd like to see that continuous specially on the road. I agree with you about Dhamar. Lamarcus Aldridge, I seventeen points tonight for lamarcus in thirty nine minutes. He was six of ten from the field. So he was it wasn't like he had a bad shooting night. He was shooting sixty percent from the field five of five from three point country at his nine rebounds lately on this streak. Lamarcus has been scoring twenty five twenty eight points tonight. He only scores seventeen Dhamar Rosen. Only scores sixteen Rudy gay off the bench. Fifteen Rudy did his part even though he was six of thirteen from the field. Carolina Teague what what about this game struck you. And how are you feeling about the Spurs right now? What what struck me? Let's check out to me. The most about this game is I feel like the Spurs could have played a lot harder offensively obviously going into this game. Miami was top three defense on on the road. And I also feel like there are currently ranked third and I think they had a hard time finding their rhythm in the transitional offense. I think the Spurs really had a difficult time doing that. They gave up a lot of open threes. And of course, they were down by eighteen points at the end of the third quarter. So I feel like they started to catch up, but it was towards the end of the fourth. And of course, they had those too costly turnovers. They had nine turnovers overall, but those too costly turnovers by demar derozan. Really? It didn't cost them the game. But I feel like they were really vital to why we're not successful at the end of the day. So I feel like another thing that a lot of people are pointing out, and I agree with them is that the Spurs are really slow on defense. And they were they look like, they're real Teague. They had a difficult time rebounding as well. And one of the things that stands out to me. In the future is during the rodeo road shape. When everybody when they were losing tremendously Patty mills had mentioned that they were working on their cohesiveness. They were working on their togetherness, and how well they worked together as a team, and I did not see that vision. But then going forward after the rodeo road shed they began to win. So they won eleven in a row at home. And then they went nine in a row over off. So I felt like that was a really good, you know, that just kind of gave Spurs fans hopes. I felt like that was great tell you what we're going to continue to talk Spurs. If you want to join us, you can jump on the phone lines. We'll see what you have to say on Facebook live as well. "This a Spurs react on Spurs radio twelve hundred W O, a I I'm Chris dual along with Michael Bartlett. And how do you like us now NBA six in a row for the San Antonio Spurs? And tonight, the Spurs will pick up a full game on either the Los Angeles Clippers or the Portland trailblazers because they're playing each other tonight. And those are the two teams ahead of the Spurs in the Western Conference standings Spurs started the night a half a game behind the clippers clippers right now in the six slot. And they. We started the night two and a half games behind the Portland trailblazers blazers in the five slot in the Western Conference. So getting this win big for the Spurs. You gotta believe Friday night against the Knicks. The Spurs should be heavily favored to win their seventh in a row, but hey, one game at a time, and we will deal with Friday night against the Knicks on Friday night. Don't forget there's a back to back after that Saturday night, Portland. Trailblazers come to town. And I was telling people on Facebook live just a few moments ago. The Spurs might be able to catch the Portland trailblazers by Saturday night, if the Spurs take care of their business, and depending on the outcome of the blazers clippers game which is going on as we speak once again, the Spurs win this game one twelve to one zero five six in a row overall their second interro on the road, and that got a nice ring to it because the Spurs have had their difficulties on the road this year. Let me tell you how you could be a part of Spurs. React. I've already got. A lot of people reacting on Facebook live. We stream live video of Spurs. Hello, dean stone, just jumped in on Facebook live or you can dial us up on the phone lines. If you're anywhere in San Antonio. And you wanna talk Spurs. This is the place to talk Spurs to one oh, seven three seven twelve hundred. Now, if you're outside San Antonio, we still pay for the phone call you can call the eight hundred number which is eight hundred three eight three w. Uh-huh. A I that's eight hundred three eight three nine six two four. Tony Allen says I'm here. Chris say my name, I decided Tony the people with us on Facebook live and the first guy to get in on the phone lines is our good friend. Joe Garcia of the two shots podcast. Let's go to his call. Joe is a regular contributor here in studio as well to Spurs react as the Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks tonight one twelve to one five Joe Garcia. Welcome back to Spurs. React. Oh, it's always a pleasure to be on here. But the big question is Chris are you gonna go dancing again tonight? I as long as this win streak continues. Joe I am dancing in the street. I started it when the Spurs went three zero on the three game homestand. Then I figured as long as they keep winning. I'm gonna keep on dancing now. That's the good news. The bad news for people who have not seen the video. I am not the best dancer in the world. But that doesn't stop me. Joe? No, no, you should just keep going. That's the good vibe. You're the Spurs. Good luck charm right now with the keeping that Dan's going. But seriously, though, the Spurs they they played a great game tonight. They they hung in there. They got frustrated. It was poorly called game by the reps it frustrated the Spurs at times, there was a lot of flopping going on you could see it frustrated them. But regardless of what happened they were able to keep their composure, please Spurs basketball, and they did get a win on the road. You know against the Mavericks by a score of one twelve to one zero five, and I believe with this win. Now, the Spurs are thirty nine and twenty nine for the season. And that's good enough for them to be in the six spot in the Western Conference as of right now because we still have that clippers game going on at this moment, if you looked up the standings, you would see the Spurs in the six slot. They could be there if the clippers lose tonight, but if they don't if the clippers don't lose tonight, it's not that bad either. That means Portland. Would've lost in the Spurs can trim Portland's lead which started the day at two and a half games down to one and a half Joe Garcia. I gotta ask you, man. Derek whyte? Fact, I think it was Mildred ru on Facebook live. Somebody said, you know, tonight, the big three one's demar derozan. Lamarcus Aldridge and Derek Whyte. I mean, we've gotten to the point with Derek whites improvement and ascension this season of of of saying things like that that he's part of the big three. I mean, you can certainly make him part of the big four when you include Rudy gay in that. But Derek Whyte twenty three points tonight in thirty three minutes ten of sixteen from the field three of five from three point country, seven assists, three rebounds, three steals for Derek Whyte talk to me a little bit. Joe your assessment of the way this guy has improved this season. The only word that I can use to describe quite right now is clutch. He's been one of the most clutch players for the San Antonio Spurs. He's been a welcome addition. Especially seeing that John has not been available to season. Derek Whyte was a diamond in the rough in this was his time to shine. And he's taken advantage of it in east looking really good. Can you imagine when we get design team Murray back next season with these with these two guys are gonna look like out there on the court. I mean, I'm excited about the Spurs future. But more importantly, Derek Whyte when he's out there on the court. He's a true point guard. He gets the Spurs in the right position. He's able to distribute the ball, and he does a lot of great things out there. And he just makes the offense. I think flow a lot better. And of course, you like that he's able to be productive on the offensive end with twenty three points on the night. He had three steals seven assists and three rebounds. I mean, what more could you ask for me? Joe Garcia with us from two shots podcast on the phone line. I'm looking at Facebook live ofa Lynn from Singapore. Joining us, and she just wrote Damara Rosen is now not afraid to attack inside. He has been aggressive these past games. You know? That's interesting Joe ever since demar derozan. Got those couple of nights off. And you know, Michael Bartlett was talking about it throughout much of the season that demar derozan was playing a bunch of minutes. He wasn't getting a night off. He wasn't getting rest. And then he finally got it a few games ago and he's come back with a vengeance. This is the second straight game that lamarcus Aldridge and demar derozan. I call him Batman and Robin. They were both just dominating tonight. And they were dominating in the previous game your thoughts on tomorrow's Rosen. How he is played since the all-star break, you know, for first thing. Things. I. Because he had been playing a lot of minutes, and you fatigue sets in at some juncture. And now that he's got rest we've seen that he put up twenty eight points tonight and everybody liked him being very aggressive going towards the rim. And they want to see more of that. But the thing is he does need rest. You know, he can't play thirty eight twenty eight minutes every single night. And especially if they're going to have back to back. They're playing against great teams. And then Spurs fans expect them to play at a high level at some point in time fatigue does set in. But you liked that. He's putting up these great numbers right now. And you know, more importantly, Chris the Spurs are coming together at the right time just in time for the playoffs. So I'm excited about this team. I hope that they can keep this up and they come at least in the sixth seat. Maybe they can you know, the fifth seat is is definitely something they could achieve, but if they get the fifth or sixth seed you like their chances moving forward, maybe they can make it to the second round of the playoffs. I think they will Michael Bartlett you were jumping in here. What do you got? I was going. Say first things first you say that man's name. Right. Chris dual it has not lamarcus Aldridge. It is a stark is all Star Trek. As you say bright clip, some respect on his name respect on his name. And I mean, okay. And I got there the big three I've asked Joe Garcia about Derek Whyte. I've asked him about demar derozan. Michael Bartlett makes a great point. Joe Louis Darcus all-star ttrij. Thank you has been aggressive. And it seems in this six game win streak. It seems like even lamarcus has turned it up a few notches. What do you think? Oh indefinitely. You know? They're they're gearing up for the playoffs, and you can see that they're being more aggressive, and you know, one of the things with lamarcus is a lotta Spurs fans gave him flat Ford, but he did he was dead on with his his his analysis in the beginning of the season. He's like I need to get my touches to get in rhythm. And you know, what I think the offense flows a little bit better when it goes to the markets. If you get lamarcus touches, he's going to be more aggressive. He's gonna get in rhythm. And that's something that they need to go ahead and keep doing more and more of moving forward because you want your one of your best players to get in rhythm early to be productive for the rest of the game. Joe Garcia of the two shots podcast. Joe you do. Great Spurs coverage and analysis on your two shots podcast. Anybody listening now who might not have checked you out yet. One of the best ways. "When I Charney looked like the answer to you. But I guess people got there late and it so that that game was great having the guys back at the very beginning. Played boys are back in town. And that was awesome. And it was just did you be back in the AT and T center and watching the game in belly did awesome? I use that Bella Nellie did awesome. Listen, I keep on saying this and everybody looks at me like cross eyed when I say it, no. Marko Bela Nellie is not minute nobly. But there are moments. He has that flash of coming in playing great defensive basketball shooting off kilter shots hitting shots. No. He is not my nobly. And he's not the second coming. But man, I feel really good with Bella Nellie comes on the on the floor. You're telling me Marco Bill and Elliot's not the second coming. No, he's not darn it. Maybe the four easter's coming. Okay. Veronica you've got anything else. I thought Veronica was still there. I saw her on the line. Okay. Sorry barranca. Veronica went away. All right. So Guilin Clinton Clinton. I signed. Thanks for take for Zion tank for guyland. I think you could give a good twenty minutes. Listen back in the day. Dude. I could I could jump back in the ACA jump. I could rebound. I listen. I'm not even going to say it. But I play like a certain NBA player that people say I looked like I was pretty good as a rebounder y-. You know, I I wanna talk about the disrespect real quick. The Joe Garcia is giving us because I haven't been looking at the is that that comments. He just goes live right in the middle of our show. You're kidding me. No. Thank you Joe Garcia. I know he has no idea. I'll talk about about it right now. So anybody who's watching? Twelve hundred w is Facebook page right now when we're done here in a few minutes, do not. Not gonna look at the two shots podcast because Joe Garcia. Dissing me guyland Jackson, and he's dissing Carl showning dissing the Spurs 'cause this is Spurs radio. He could have waited like five more minutes. I love Joe. Joe Garcia is great. And again, I wanted to mention I I don't know if you heard react the other night, and we lost a Brooklyn. Yes. Speaking of guys, I love Michael Bartlett. And I love Dylan Emery, and it's not like these are yahu phone callers that we sure sure sure these are huge Spurs fans to our regular contributors to Spurs react. And they were both saying, you know, maybe it's time for my goodness. I'm like, are you kidding? My head is about to explore. I know I know for me, and then guy will not Joe Dillon Hemdale is I'm not saying he should be fired. But I'm saying, maybe we should have a conversation of the organization should have a conversation with him about maybe. Transitioning into something else. Are you out of your mind? This is the greatest coach ever the NBA and maybe ever ever on mount Rushmore with Red Auerbach with Phil Jackson. I'm in my mind. He is better than that Red Auerbach had the Celtics in an era where it was Bill. Russell and John Havlicek and the Celtics it was an eighteen NBA exactly that everybody in the Celtics one every year. Phil jackson. We know who he had Michael, Jordan Scottie, the greatest Shaq and Kobe and when shack lefty, add Kobe and Ghazal so for now, we have Gonzalves for big markets. Yeah. Can can you guys take back Lakers? Please. I'm kidding. I keyed I kid bought his hands jazz hands for pop to do that. Yeah. For Bob to be in a small Marsh. Sure. Know, you might not have been in town yet. There was a time pre nineteen ninety nine when people said we'll never go to the finals because the NBA won't allow it. We're a small market, right? There were the conspiracy theorists. Exactly. The refs are never gonna make the calls in the Spurs. Right because the NBA doesn't want the Spurs in the finals six trips to the finals later, I think they were wrong. It's amazing. And again, we go back to what we were talking to Carl shining about is at this Burr, we're not used to losing the rodeo road trip. It just doesn't happen. We have been above five hundred on in the in the on the road for ever literally forever guys. There are people not born that have no idea why they even root for the Spurs who have no idea with losing his like, that's not you can't say that. I'm not jumping on the Cowboys. Seriously. We can't say that about the Cowboys. You can't say that about the saints. You can't say that about Philadelphia service that you can't even say it about the Lakers. There's only one team in the NBA say that about for the past twenty years this San Antonio Spurs, and I'm big on earning respect. And but I'm gonna tell you right now in my book pop Kim, go when he wants to have -solutely, we would we would have for me to turn on pop. We'd have to probably not make the playoffs. Two years in a row and. And look really bad doing. It would take five years in a row and. He's been here for twenty. Plus, actually, you know. Oh, yeah. Exactly. Yes. But no, I it's not pop. I I'm not enlisted San Antonio. We're we're up against it here in a second. I'm not the biggest lamarcus Aldridge fan. I like them speaks highly of you. He does he does. He does he listens. He's listening as he's driving right now. Listen closely to what guy wouldn't that be hilarious if he called he he might Tom Brady's done that before I think Tom Brady's called a radio station before. But no. So I think he's good. But we're not the same team that we weren't three years ago. We don't have the big three we need somebody to step up as a leader. And I need that to be. I would love it to be lamarcus Aldridge, and that would endear me to him. But it doesn't look like that's in his DNA DNA has to be a great player to be a very good substantial player in the NBA all star. He is now I just need somebody to step up. And I think that's kind of what San Antonio seeing right now. But listen, we got leadership and coaches. We got Patty mills, we got Becky Hammond. Everything about that the Spurs first woman to coach in the NBA assistant coach in the NBA store Antonio Spurs. Yeah. Earlier seeing history. Yeah. The tentacles of the Spurs cut so go to state is as great as they are because of the San Antonio Spurs Steve Kerr learned everything from Gregg Popovich. And that's why he can do it. He Jackson would say he learned a lot from me. But you know as a player. No, all right. As a player though, but filter I haven't seen Phil Jackson a minute. We're so Jackson men. He was he's retired from the GM job with. Yeah. He's. Meditating somewhere. Yeah. He is a good thing. Yeah. He's in an ashram somewhere. Anyway. Final comment. Guile jackson. We're gonna put a wrap on this. The final word goes to you winning cures everything. San Antonio Spurs fans. This is not a pop thing you need to stand behind. That's loyalty. That is loyalty is loyalty, you all are to the police to the military pops right up there in my book with those people I San Antonio is that city that would not be the same without six championships and greatness, and none of that happens without Greg. None of that happens. We without Bob. Listen, I can't wait for Saturday night. Chris I'm excited. Hopefully, we get Joe Garcia and here some other people unless party, but if yogurt Zia comes in here, he threw react say you can go now to shop. Thanks, Paul kid. Well, great job making the show. Go from beginning to end the entire radio broadcast, Paul Kidwell here. Bill showning, another masterful. Call down at the center Sam Walters. His on-site engineer their statistician. Walter stoops Carl showning the renaissance man and basketball savant spectacular analysis. Guyland Jackson, always outstanding. I'm Chris dual Spurs beat the Detroit Pistons tonight at the AT.

"Facebook live or any indication of the mindset of Spurs fans right now. Spurs fans are angry. Spurs fans are bitter. Spurs fans are sarcastic Spurs fans are believing the sky has fallen. Hey, Spurs played very very well tonight. If you listen to Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammond, speaking with Bill shown in just a few moments ago on post game a lot of things went right for the Spurs tonight. Spurs certainly had opportunities to win this game especially late in this game. And they let it get away. Inspect Hammond said the Spurs just did not close this game the way they would have liked to. I'm Chris dual along with Michael Bartlett and two very special in studio guests Joe Garcia of the two shots podcast and Brenda Lee who is a regular contributor to the two shots podcast and a local foodie, we may ask her about some comfort food that might help us feel better after this loss. I may be stopping in and out burger on the way home on two eighty. One. Let's start with you. Joe Garcia, tough loss. One twenty to one seventeen. What do you take from this loss this evening? Well, it is national Margarita day. So after this loss, I think I need me a Margarita. But you know, you gotta there's a lot of things you can take from this game. You got to be happy as a Spurs fan. Yes. You're sad for the loss that you're happy and thrilled with the way the team played they played a really great game. I think it was just some things that happened near the end that kind of the game kind of got away from them. But overall, I love the defensive effort that they put up tonight they had seven turnovers the first quarter. Joe how is that happy just saying overall I like the defensive effort because they have been very inconsistent on the road to start the rodeo road trip. They gave up one hundred fifteen plus points. Our you like in the defense the defense because they didn't get blown out Mr. Bartlett. You know, a lotta people gave them no chance. I me in particular. I was the the biggest Debbie Downer. I said they're going to get blown out twenty points. I'm glad that I have to eat crow and say, you know, what they played a better defensive game overall. And the only they only lost by three points. So I'm trying to look at the positives here. So I'm going to come away with saying I like that they didn't get blown out. They only lost by three disappointed that they didn't get the win. All right. Well, let's let's introduce our newest member of Spurs. React I hear nothing but great things about her and including Dylan Emery, the blue sports dead very excited to hear that you were going to be on Spurs react tonight regular contributor to the two shots podcasts. Local foodie. Brenda lee. Brenda welcome. I thank you for having me. All right now, we we heard two guys right there. We heard Michael Bartlett, and we heard Joe Garcia. Joe sees positives in tonight's close laws. Michael bartlett. A lot of things to be unhappy about the turnovers the defense giving up a lot of points tonight. How do you feel about tonight's game? I mean, I have to do with Bartlett if our defense was up to par defense improved. As much as it should have been than we would have, you know, finalized the game. And they ended the stretch. So. Yeah. It wasn't a blowout. But still I mean are deep in perform, obviously, there is a air on on a derozen three last play and throw the ball and and of led to the the win. But. It's it's hard to say. I mean, we did make some strides. But at the end of the day we didn't win and our defense is still lacking. And that's one thing that we start to improve on which improved a little bit. Doesn't mean. It's improved that much you know because it was a close game. And so I still feel like Spurs still have a lot to work on going into the playoffs and Brenda you mentioned that play with fifteen point one seconds left Spurs at that point. Are in have a great opportunity. It's one eighteen to one seventeen in the Spurs have the ball. And they demar Rosen slips, it is Kawhi Leonard reaching in some people thought that could have been a foul, but he slips he loses the ball as he falls. And it is Kawhi Leonard who takes the ball in for a slam dunk for the Toronto. Raptors little irony there. Joe Garcia, the two guys who were the focal points of this where the guys involved in that play. Yeah. You know, it just came down to that one play. Really that was going to either win it or lose it for us. Unfortunately, it just didn't go our way. What could it has been a foul called? Sure. But I mean realistically he knew that the rest weren't going to really call that. But the Spurs despite that one call though this Spurs had another opportunity to win this game. It just it. Just the ball. Just didn't follow our way tonight. You know? So you gotta take it with a grain of salt. You know, you're you're going to win some you're gonna lose some unfortunately, this was a game. That was very winnable for us. And we just kind of let it slip through our fingers down stretch. And don't forget with forty four seconds left in this game, Marco bell and Ellie hit a three point shot to give the Spurs a one seventeen one fifteen lead things were looking very very good. And then the Spurs foul Serge Ibaka, and actually I misspoke when Bacher hit one of two free throws the Spurs had the one seventeen to one sixteen leads. So the Spurs were up with the ball when demar derozan flipped and fell and then Kawai Leonard wound up with the ball took it in for the slam dunk. That's what gave Toronto the one eighteen one seventeen lead with fifteen point one seconds remaining. So and then at the very end the final seconds now, they get the ball to demar derozan. They give him another opportunity. It was an opportunity for him to redeem himself and he had the ball. He didn't have a good. Look he dished the ball to 'Davis Bretons 'Davis protons. Mrs Kyle Lowry gets the rebound for a moment. They were. Reviewing the play to see if Kyle Lowry had stepped out of bounds as he got that rebound that was the call on the court. But by by review in Secaucus, New Jersey, the NBA review center said, Nope. That was an inadvertent. Whistle. He did not step out of bounds. We will continue to talk about it with you. If you want to jump on the phone lines. If you're in San Antonio, you can call us up to one zero seven.

"Eight three W O A. I we will go to you in the order that you came in looks like Mike got in here. I Mike you are on Spurs react on twelve hundred W O AI. Welcome mike. How's it going guys? Rudy for giving us a win. Tonight. We needed it. We're at the point of the season washed are looking at the loss column more so than the win column because losses you really can't make up a you can get more wins and with Houston losing tonight puts us one game behind them in the loss column and to Portland, and I think part of that problem is our record against the east. I think guys that are ahead of us. Have a better record is the eastern. We don't think we're seven or eight and seven coming into this game. And so we gotta do basically do a better job against the east. So we definitely actual defense. I'm tired of getting up six five seventy points in the first half. And just one deal. Y'all have say about that. All right. My good stuff and thanks for the call. Now, they did pick up a full game on the rockets, and they are effectively tied with the Rockettes tonight. As far as games back. But you're right. If you look at the laws column, the rockets have played two fewer games than. The spurs. So the Houston Rockets are ahead of the Spurs via percentage points, but the Spurs are virtually tied or effectively tied with the Houston Rockets. It was nice little favor from the pelicans pelicans beat the rockets tonight for the Spurs picked up a game on the rockets with the Spurs victory over the Phoenix Suns tonight back to the phone lines, we go and Joe Joe thank you for waiting. You're on Spurs react after the Spurs win over Phoenix tonight. Welcome Joe, Chris. I am hyped. My goodness. I was at the game. And that game winner was awesome. But I got three things Rudy hit the game winner. But Forbes he is the one that walnut game at the end for us. My goodness. And that was that was a home visitor in that game that made the difference. It's back home pigeon. That keeps quiet around your Rena for us. He showed up and we wild. I love it crediting. Thank you. Joe? Thanks for the call crediting, the home pigeon that. It flies around the AT and T center and Bryan Forbes did look really really good tonight to Brin Forbes had some amazingly athletic shot drives to the basket. Again. It was so weird offensively. The Spurs looked great defensively. Not so good in Phoenix hit sixty percent from the field, which was crazy back to the phone lines. We go Spurs beat the Phoenix Suns one twenty six to one twenty four Veronica you are on Spurs. React, welcome. Veronica, go ahead. Yeah. We winning if worst shooting twenty percent less than them. But hey it. That that way. After he won the game. That was awesome. That shows spirit of camaraderie. I'm just wondering what we're going to start doing about three pointers that we're not locking his everybody shooting. Veronica, thanks for the call. Again, defense was a problem tonight and defense they'll look at this film. They'll stress defense and they've got to figure out how to get better on defense. And this was against again a short handed Spurs team. Final phone call of the night is going to be Joe Garcia. Joe Garcia of the two shots podcast who hosted Spurs react to nights ago. And I appreciate it. Joe Garcia, welcome. What do you got? Oh, man. I'm happy the Spurs one. But a mad because of the way they want. I mean, they they were having this much trouble against a really bad. Phoenix Suns team me. No. But as we get further and further into the season. A win is a win at the end of the day. And Sean Elliott had something that he said that really, you know, seemed to strike a chord with the with how the team was playing tonight. He said this win actually make this team better or worse. You know? And that's I guess that's up to debate. But even coach at the end of the game, he kind of you know, with carrying the team up a little bit with his comments. He said, you know, there's there's things that they need to work on they need to work on their defense. But at the end of the day, I'm not gonna go on a rant. I'm just gonna say a win is a win Chris. And I'm gonna be happy with it. I love it. And thanks for the phone call Joe and Joe's podcast, two shots podcast. Follow that across multiple media. I lied. I'm going to take one more phone call. 'cause we love it when Irene calls in. Irene you are on Spurs react after the big one twenty six one twenty four win over Phoenix tonight. What's on your mind? Irene. They struggled didn't they I mean, they just couldn't do it. But what I you know it? It's the end of the game that counts, and and Rudy did it, and he did it in in magnificent fashion. Where were you at the game tonight? Yes, sir. I sure was it was awesome. I would imagine that erupted when Rudy hit that game winner that buzzer beater standing I think the last minute everyone was standing the last minute. It was it was crazy, but he made that last shot, and you know, if they weren't standing they weren't they were standing then. So so fan support for the Spurs still where it was last year where it's been in previous years is that have you noticed that Irene, I notice again that we're very lethargic as far as yelling through out the game, you know. But when it gets close, then they get all excited. So it works. Alright. Irene thanks for the phone call. So glad you were at the game tonight and had a chance to see this in person. We're going to wrap Spurs react for now. Thanks to Michael Bartlett for making the Shogo from beginning to end here on the Spurs radio network. Bill showning another masterful call of the game Carl showning bringing it as our Spurs analyst statistician Walter stoops on site. Engineer Sam Walters. We will do this again on Thursday night. Only two.

"We'll go to Joe Garcia of the two shots podcast. I see he's on the phone line. But first since I got the phone number wrong. Hopefully, I won't get the introduction of our special in studio. Guest wrong. Great guy, he goes all the way back to opening night. He was in the hemisphere arena as a kid on what I believe was October tenth nineteen Seventy-three when the Spurs played their first ever regular season game against the San Diego conquistadors who were coached by Wilt Chamberlain that night. He is Associated Press radio. Reporter who covers the San Antonio Spurs ROY Flora's, ROY thanks for being here. Thanks for having me, Chris. And I'm sorry. This is your first Spurs react. Because as as you probably know, and I told you react is not nearly as fun when the Spurs lose Michael Bartlett gets into a foul mood. I get into a foul mood, you'd said to me, you might get into a foul mood. So this could get really ugly. What happened and how did the Spurs drop a game? They should not have dropped a day just came out flat. Seriously. They had they lacked energy. It's those little fine. Tune things that pops is always looking for. The follow through on a shot. Sure they missed a bunch of shots. I forgot what the percentage what thirty seven something like that. And that equates to just not finishing the the movement of the wrist or not setting your feet, right? Whatever it may be all the shots were just off tonight. And Becky Hammon said it was a lacklustre performance. And what is good now Spurs after get on that flight fly back? They gotta play again tomorrow. It's back to back at least it's at home at least they can sleep in their own beds tonight, but it's against a very good Oklahoma City thunder team that is currently number three in the Western Conference a very good Oklahoma team that is hungry right now because they've lost two in a row. So they're gonna come in here with with a little firepower. Yeah, they're number three in in in the Western Conference. And what's interesting is that the Spurs are Owen six this season on the second night of back tobacco. That's not good in since Oklahoma City didn't play tonight. I gotta assume they're already in San Antonio there at the hotel. They were watching this game tonight scouting the Spurs a little bit, and it's a home and away against Oklahoma City. So they played at the center Saturday night at home a city. This is this is a tough task. This is a tough to game window for the Spurs. Yeah. They did. You know, Spurs will be I think they'll take a split. It'd be nice. It'd be nice to see them pull off, you know, two hundred zero. But like I said, you know, they're coming off losses to the wizards. And. The T wolves. Goodness. I yeah. Yeah. They lost to the wizards and the T wolves. I have a feeling that that they're gonna come out a little little hungry. Yeah. Both teams should have a chip on their shoulder tomorrow night. Tell you what if you want to jump on the phone lines. I got the number right now to one zero seven three seven twelve hundred on the phone line is our good friend and regular contributor to Spurs. React also my show on tickets seven sixty as well he's Joe Garcia of the two shots podcast. Joe? Welcome back to Spurs. React. Thanks for having me on Chris. You know, it's not going to be a good night with Spurs moving. Yeah. And I mean, just. Just an awful performance awful shooting performance awful scoring performance at halftime. The Spurs had thirty one points. That was the lowest first half of the season previously. Thirty four was the low against Minnesota and tonight Eighty-six points scored by the Spurs in the loss lowest point total of the season. They had pre previously scored eighty eight against Miami. So a lot of things to improve upon in less than twenty four hours. No, you know, and one of the things that I did see that that happened to the Spurs early a grizzlies credit to them though, they play great defense. There were swarming the Spurs. They kept him out of rhythm. And they were double teaming lamarcus Aldridge often throughout the game. So really get him any chance to get it any type of rhythm. They also disrupted. D'amato rosen. They just knocked down shocked at the end of the day. They had some good looks here. And there it's just happens. I mean, it's it's nothing that you can control. Sometimes you just have an offshoot night. And I think that's actually what happened to this first today, but one of the things that really irritated more these bad calls tonight. I mean, you just saw bad call after dad call then you get Dobbins birth times tossed for nothing, and you get a you get popped fired up. And I was like okay pops gonna like this this came up, and he gets called for for a technical foul called as well. You know, this game just got me so upset Chris that there's a level beyond upset. I would call it hawk or you just want to smash something, and that's how I felt watching this game. Wow. Joe Garcia, usually a very calm subdued guy. He's about to go into hulk mode after this loss to the Memphis grizzlies tonight ninety six eighty six stay there. Joe I want to ask ROY Flora's a question, and you can respond to this as well, ROY Joe they're talking about the officiating. 'davis protons is not a guy who gets tossed often Michael Bartlett throughout the evening was talking about the question of well calls by the officials. They double T 'Davis Bertone's. They tee up pop. There were some calls that just looked weird tonight. Your thoughts on the officiating tonight that was a really strange sequence there where we're 'Davis got a toss in the game. You know, I as a fan I get upset with horrible calls. But. I've learned to live with them with the horrible calls because they usually wash wash each other out some nights, you're going to get the calls. And you wonder why we're you know, I'll be sitting there watching a game, and they'll call a foul where lamarcus has gone to the to the basket, and it's a phantom call, and it's like, wow. Where was a foul and watch replay on Jumbotron, and I didn't see a foul, but hey, I'll take it. Yeah. You know, I'll I'll take that call and Joe touched on an interesting point. And that was the defense that Memphis was playing and they were disrupting the lamarcus, and they were disrupting Dhamar and one of the things that Kyle Anderson talked about the other night in the locker room was and he said, we'll get them back back in our place. He says we didn't close out on on their players the way we should. And you'll see a difference. Come. What's the night Wednesday night? Yeah. So Kyle Anderson was true to his word. He made good on that promise before we go back to Joe Garcia. Let me ask you, ROY. I mentioned not only do you cover the Spurs now for Associated Press radio. But you know, you go all the way back to nineteen Seventy-three. Like, I do as a fan. Spurs came in tonight winners of five in a row winners of thirteen of their last sixteen. They came into tonight playing their best basketball of the season. Do you see tonight as an aberration that they can and will solve tomorrow night? How do you feel going into tomorrow night? I think so I, you know, I think what you've seen over the last. The latter part of December and into the the new year. You've just seen a different Spurs team than what we saw at the beginning of the season. And tonight was just one of those weird games where they're gonna happen throughout a season. You're going to have those those fluke games. You know? I think they play if they played Memphis ten times back to back to back. You know, I I'd see Spurs taken seven or eight of them. So do they turn it around tomorrow? They have to because to go to Oklahoma on Saturday and try to win. There will be a tough task. And you could be looking at a three game losing streak if that happens. Tomorrow's critical. Joe Garcia your thoughts on tomorrow night. What's your gut feeling say, how do you feel about the Spurs tomorrow night against Oklahoma City? I I'm sure the Spurs will bounce back and they're going to be angry at themselves and probably come out with a better game. The only thing is, you know, they need to not fall behind. They need come out with high energy start knocking down some shots and just play, you know, Spurs back bone. I think they'll be fine. But I gotta tell you Patty mills that Beijing points on the night and showed it a lamarcus Aldridge, and Michael Ben and Ellie finished with the team is fourteen point. So you think we're going to hear an apology out of Michael Bartlett tonight. Now, Joe didn't we get an apology for Michael Bartlett the other night? He said something nice about daddy. But he didn't really Allah jobs Japan. Michael. How would you? How would you like to respond to that? Joe to go back and listen because I clearly did. And it's not one of those nights. When you want oak the bear tonight. Just sucked point blankets sucked. You know to go along with what Joe was saying the the calls against you know, Jarvis Brittan were just ridiculous. The first technical that he got I can understand why he got the technical. But I've seen worse than that. As far as other players. You know, not drawing a technical. He grabbed the ball. He threw the ball into the the under the the goal stand. But he didn't throw it into the crowd. He had it in his in his arm and just kind of like smacked it. So I've seen worse than that. You know, I've seen a James harden get up and start throwing his hands around. And you know, saying what not and not get called for a tea. So I could understand that one. We didn't really see what the second technical was called for you know, he was standing at the free throw line and all of a sudden he just got teed. So unless the referee whoever. You know, Davos was talking to understands Latvian. And if and if Davis was speaking in Latvian, that's the only thing I can think of is that he said something he had to have said it in English. Obviously, I imagine he's learned a few curse words. He had to have said it said something because he didn't you know, he didn't make any type of gesture or any type of you know. Just weird. He didn't make any type of emotion, basically when he got tossed he kind of looked at the arrest, and then he got teed up, and then he just walked off the court. So. And it was just it was an ugly night point blank. You know, no energy whatsoever. They score eighteen points in the first quarter. Memphis, they hold them to twenty two in the first quarter. So it was one of those things where. Okay. They shot bad. But they were only down four so. Yeah. Look at the bright side. Okay. Well, if maybe they can just make a couple of buckets and get get some offense going don't get back in this game. Very uncharacteristic. They had a horrible first quarter with turnovers. And then in the second quarter. It just got worse. You know, thirteen points in the second quarter. What was it? I believe that was the low for for a half this year. Yeah. Thirty one. It was just it was just one of those games where nothing was going. I mean, there was a there was a a lid on the basket all night long. Unfortunately. Now, do you agree Michael with ROY Flora's that? Yeah. This is probably a one night aberration. And we'll see a different Spurs team tomorrow night at home at the AT and T center. Well, unfortunately, with the way the team has been let me let me take that in two parts the way the team has been playing I'll say they can't get back to what we have seen them play in the past month is good basketball and distributing and playing well on defense, the latter part of that is I can also see this go south in a hurry. I can see this being a three game losing streak. I can see them tomorrow possibly getting blown out by twenty or thirty because Oklahoma city's for real not that they weren't. But Russell Westbrook is on a mission. And right now playing. Them back to back as far as game wise, you could possibly see in Owen three coming up in a hurry. Yeah. That means tomorrow night is is very very critical. And we just got a couple of minutes left here before we have to break in rapid the top of the hour, ROY Flora's. What what specifically do you think Gregg Popovich and this staff address on that plane and tomorrow going into the game against Oklahoma City? I think Papa just looks at this one as just go out and play your game go out and play, you know, Spurs basketball. I think if they come out with, you know, three quarters of the intensity that they came out with the inst- Rondo or even against Memphis last last game were were they didn't let you know where they didn't take their foot off the pedal and pops gonna tell them just to push. It continue pushing continue taking shots pop is is going to tell every shooter just keep taking shots. Whether you're making them. Missingham? Defensively tonight. I don't think they did, you know, horrible..

"Guilin Jackson guyland Jackson, laughing at me because I still have my old man landline, and I still read the newspaper. Kids. Get off my lawn you millennials newspaper, what's newspaper. Exactly, thank you. I'll show you Facebook say I got I got a newspaper. They don't make them like they used to. All right. Let's go back to the phone lines. I guess Michael go from the top. I'll start with Richard on online. One richard. Thank you for waiting. You're on Spurs react on twelve hundred W O A. I welcome Richard. Hey, chris. I just wanted to say congratulations again to the Spurs. I was at the game. And when you think of Toronto Raptors, you think of the face of that team, and it could be the biggest blessing that San Antonio had that he didn't want to stay with this teams because we're playing so much team ball right now that if you had to put a face to the name of the San Antonio Spurs, the only face that comes to mind right now is to me Popovich and as much as people wanted to say it was gonna be the mar- against that never happened to me in in the game. Our team for team. Pinball again, and they were winners, and I just can't wait for the second half of this season to come about. Dog. All right, man. Thanks for the phone call. I think Richard. But as soon as he said, I can't wait for the second half of the season to come about that dog in the background. Dog is a huge Spurs fan people. I know we've got a lot of calls on the phone. But one thing I wanted to echo would Richard said, this is the first time that I've been his Spurs fan over twenty years now that it is truly the Spurs. It's not just one player is the Spurs. Everybody is coming in is the team dynamic is not the big three or the four with Ginobili coming off the bench. We are a team right now. And the only thing the only name that matters is Spurs right now. And I think that's huge Popovich Spurs playing so amazing. And we've even seen the resurgence of the the beautiful game that that passing Joe for real. That's that's back. Fences back defense was gone earlier in the season. Yeah. So we're we're bringing sexy back, and we're bringing defense out who's honking are is anybody honking down military. People people have walked walking out military right now. And going down commerce street, you know, honking. Somebody would have. Big Spurs flag is probably driving down with thirty inch rims have another sighting of that naked guy that was jogging down Marbot. There. Yeah. We'll we'll. Back to the phone lines for the love of God, Spurs beat the Toronto. Raptors one twenty five to one zero seven Shirley has been waiting for quite some time. Shirley, thank you for your patience. You're on Spurs. React. Welcome shirley. Oh, thank you. I'll say entertain the stadium today was I'd say one of the top ten of all time. Nice. And they all made better if Poindexter and cutting hand what made a basket you could say every player that played made a basket it nearly happened. Absolutely. Shirley, thanks so much for the call. We're going to try to work in as many as we can next on deck is Wayne Wayne you're on Spurs react after the big one twenty five one zero seven win over Toronto tonight. Welcome wayne. Go ahead. Hey, Chris longtime listener tickets were my father's and my sisters the me so been going to games for over thirty years. Wow. Hook 'em, home home. Huskies for you. I'm Jefferson Mustang. But this game was exciting. It was electric. I know pop said don't boo, and I was going into the game not wanting to boo, but I went in the electric city and everything else I got sucked in. And here's what I was thinking about as I was doing was these are the fans that show up at the airport at two o'clock in the morning when they come back that go to military drive in commerce after a game after game that sometimes not even a playoff but a big game. So I think it was awesome. I think the fans had to get it out of their system. I don't think they'll do it again. But this game had to be. And it was just amazing. What a powerful game. I'm so excited about what the future lies with this game tells us and just how they come. It's up here. Thank you. One thing. I was wondering is I wanted to ask somebody who was there at the game. What was it like what was the fan reception late? I want to know how they got when they saw ninety Walker came out on the court for the first time and actually place a minutes as a spur and score his first points. And who knew and here, we you know, you guys have brought up Lani Walker like three times on react. I mean that was like you would have thought that was late in the game. You would have thought that was an afterthought, but he's already so many fans love that guy and he didn't play in the regular season until tonight with the Spurs. He's been with the G league. Austin Spurs a little bit scrap another phone call. Let's go to Andrew Andrew. Thanks for waiting. You're on Spurs react on Spurs radio. Twelve hundred w O a welcome Andrew. The one thing that you just have. I think it was Guilin that just add what it was like from the gecko. I had never really heard the fans boo another player, but from the get-go even during the warm-up lines. They were booing coli at getting the ball and doing a wound up layup. And then they were cheering for Danny green. When he would do when it was taking any time Kawai touch the ball at any point in the game. And even before the game started the fans are doing. It was an unbelievable atmosphere, and all I can say is that when you have a game, and Derek Whyte pretty much scores point for point with Hawaii. Leonard the development and the opportunities that Derek white has gotten in the last week or two weeks have been unbelievable, and he has contributed so much. I go back to the game against the Celtics. He had a great sequence of I don't know five or six minutes. In the third or fourth quarter. And it was all over the place. And he did it again tonight in another caller pointed out that he was guarding guarding their best player, and he's getting great experience and one last thing is that the fans were pretty much cheering for Lani Walker with about eight minutes to go in the game. They were chanting his name and wanting to see him play, and he got a great opportunity as well. And I'm looking forward to what the Spurs can do here with the rest of the season. You know, I was watching. I was watching on TV. And it was so funny because they showed the the the thank you, Danny. Thank you. And the Tribus video, and then they came and they were they were, you know, Channing Danny Danny, Danny? And then they went to the booth him. You know, I'm okay with the bullying of why Leonard right. I'm not gonna say I'm a fan of Linnet. But what he showed me tonight with Gregg Popovich? I'm like, all right, cool. I'm okay with the bullying of them. But it's the name calling and everything else threat. Death threats are not cool piano in death threats are not funny either as I laugh, but I I want people just to remember for a second. Again, I'm going to go back to them and keep on saying it look with Gregg Popovich, did you know, that's how Gregg Popovich is not always wrong. Maybe political you may not agree with them. But he has shown us something for the past twenty years and tonight, he showed us how to treat somebody else who we might have disagreements. Oh, man thing. I wanted to say to regardless of how Spurs fans feel about the man who shall not be named. And I'm gonna say his name. Gwen Lynn, there you go wash your mouth away. What he did for the Spurs in two thousand fourteen and twenty when we almost wanted to title. Yeah. If it wasn't for him. We wouldn't have another NBA championship say what you will about the man, boom, all you want. But you can't take that away from you. You take take it away from the team. You said boo the guy that's fun. It's funny. We've done it to LeBron James we've done it to all all different types of players. All I'm saying is just remember he is still a very good player. And he's not on the Spurs big deal. You know, uncle Dennis. We can say that old all talk about this all day long. I wanna grab one more phone call in here. And we're we're still going to go. I want to hear from Michael Bartlett as well. But Stephen has been waiting quite some time. Stephen thank you for your patience. You're on Spurs. React. Welcome stephen. New behind enemy lines happy new year. Like that Chang says the future so bad you gotta wear shades. The just great the way this team is playing in in best. He's the best of all time. I'll let the team chemistry as you know, the first thing they tell you when you play sports. There's no Ironwood team in a in the future just makes so great and every day is like a new new gift or something. Holidays and. We're going to be competing this year sports fans. And it's not going to go down. We're gonna to make the playoffs. And I can't wait and have a great night. And God bless God. Bless you to Steven. Great caller. You Michael Bartlett told me during the broadcast. He saw on the TNT feed. Stephen just said, there's no I in team. He said there was a sign somebody had read there's no Kawhi team. So which I thought was very very funny. Speaking of Michael Bartlett, we're gonna take a quick break. I want to get Michael's take. And we'll go around the horn here, and we'll get some final analysis from guyland Jackson. Joe Garcia of the two shots podcast, Michael Bartlett and myself, Chris dual huge Spurs win tonight.
