"Later today, and this list is longer than Joe Gannon's left arm. It's not cover a mall, but at least get what's coming up in the next couple of hours or so. Let's go to Danielle Mason 8 to 9. We have the car show after the car show 9 to 10. We have the rich Paul show and then 10 until noon. We have the inside outside guys, So that's what's happening to me Chair this morning. Thanks, Danielle. It is now 6 44 on Saturday morning, and that makes it time for Joe gunman's tough of mine topics. So sometimes I just sit here in front of the computer and wonder what I'm going to do next. So this past week I went searching for articles pertaining to the appliance industry, and I found one and it's alarming and I must bring forth this news to you. Flash news. I'm peace. Piecing together here is about a drier fire in Kansas City. The dryer caught fire. House, Bert. The Fire Department came out and said the cause of the fire was lint in the vent line going to the outside. And the sad part of this story is the gentleman who lived in the home is in critical condition. As I'm speaking to you today, do not Operate your clothes dryer after you shut the lights off and go to bed. Do not operate the dryer while you're not around. Carefully put out the fire. If you can, should it occur in your home, So that's my warning. Just all consumers today do not operate the clothes dryer. After you go to bed. Thank you very much. Good tip, Joe. Thank you by the visual on this. Next one is just amazing to me. I mean, I picturing a guy that that only gets his dish was clean but his feet as well. The door falls open during the dishwasher cycle. Dunkirk, New York's the collar. It's Derwood. Hello, Derwood. Thanks for calling all the way from New York. Very nice of you. Thank you. Bones. You're miss your Gagnon. Just wait there with their dunker. They suffer Comma Zavala, You may be a Michelle to hail from the northern reaches of Ontario and enjoy your broadcast and have done so since your previous generation. 1995 until you J. R. Yes, I go way back now, where you from? In Ontario. Kappas casing. 00 not far from Timmins. That's exactly right. The northern parts were they do get deep winter to be sure you have That's nice of you to call their wood. How may we help you? I have a vintage hot point dishwasher that was installed in the kitchen of my parent's home here in Dunkirk when they had a youngest town cabinetry put in 1952. So it is about the same vintage. Is your Donald the Hammer Schuster producer there? And the problem with this disc Boxer is it has no locking mechanism to keep the dark clothes. It's an older model is you may imagine, and as a result My wife has the proper mophead Look, gets the handle of the door on the dishwasher to keep it closed. Otherwise back around Thanksgiving, the door fell open and we had night befalls right here the kitchen and much to her sick Korean, But we've been at least keeping it running that way. Since that time, but it's kind of it. Inconvenience as you might imagine. Now that old dishwasher has some sort of cable mechanism on each hinge. At the bottom. Have you gone into the dishwasher at all? I actually have a compendium here. It's from 1950 entitled Electrical Appliance Servicing by William Crowds published by McGraw Hill. Perhaps you're familiar with that publication. For perhaps I've read so many books. I can't remember. Well, this would actually has a photograph of my dishwasher on peach 500. It details a lot of things. I've been able to, uh, keep this machine running since it was installed. I had to replace the impeller motor twice and that you're getting hard to find parts for it with the help of this this compendium. I'm not familiar with that. No, I have to look very closely to see that. Well, that's what's holding your door up and closed. On this dish washing. I doubt very much you'll ever find the part at a Nepal I It's wholesale out Glad. But you can go to repair clinic dot com here in the Canton, Michigan, and they've got a warehouse here that holds a four million customers parts. So my it's called repair clinic dot com. I think my issue is with the friction, said closure toward the top of the machine. There's a little like there's a spring that holds a little ball. Against another, and it is sort of holds. It closed that way, and that's become very lose. And so even though the machine runs perfectly, it's real loud. You have to leave the kitchen while it's running. It's not like one of your fine boss machines, Children and my wife say, Why don't we tear this out? Going to replace it with a fine Bosch dishwasher, but that, of course, that would include having the replace talk of other things that the kitchen to such as the lovely young stone cabinetry, which, when it was installed by my parents, it was turquoise. And still, I had it all redone 10 years ago when we bought the house now, now they're wait. I got a question for you in all these years. Have you added a floor to that kitchen? No as our kitchen is very vintage. In fact, a television station from Buffalo came down to actually video record our the appearance because it looks like you're strolling right back into 1952 a day way want to contest instead of remodeling the kitchen? Run the dollars that we received and we put it into replacing our boiler back in 1952. All right, Well, you just keep working on that dishwasher, but do it. From campus casing Ontario. I'd like to hear back from you send me anyway. Well, would you Well, I'll be glad to. Perhaps I'll take my Polaroid land camera. Take a photograph of my kitchen for you if I can find the dying thing, okay around here with somewhere Yeah, well, that's so nice to hear from you. A very nice thank you so much. We were Mayor. So here's how easy it is to remember even if he couldn't write it down right now, 800 that you got right. Throw that away. You remember 800. Now all you gotta remember is 8590. Then W. J. R. Okay, so 808 590 wjr the number to call so we could help you out with your appliance repair question this morning, Joe. Yes, And we begin the radio program this morning as we do every Saturday and Sunday with a hockey story from the old days in this story happens to pertain to a guy named Joe Gannon. You see way back when the Red Wings asked me to escape with them with the alumni team? Um, I was on the single side of life and I never spent any money for myself. But every once in a while, I'd need a pair of tennis shoes, so I had met Valerie. And I used to go to the shoe store and I'm telling you, I'm not getting you when I say to you. I go in to buy a pair of tennis shoes and I'd be out of the store in less than five minutes. In out, but I'd never ever spent any expensive money on a pair of tennis shoes because I was hard on them well. Yeah. One day Barry came home and says to me Look at these nice tennis shoes I bought and I saw Holy smokes. I can't wear those. I said What? What did you pay for these tennis shoes? Well, it was some $150 that I used to spend $20 per parer. Running shoes. So she says, Well, there were $157 I solely smoke. Anyways, it was the fall of the year We still went down the Joe Louis Arena for our weekly practice and meetings and so forth. So I said, Well, okay, well, and I went down to Joe Louis Arena, dressed in a pair of shorts. And tennis shoes and I went in and the guy said old Wow, we'll see after practice, Elsa, but you used to fix these old round wooden tables with a big white tablecloth. That was 10 times too big for the table, but it dragged on the floor. And so we all used to have a barbecue out there, and we cook up some hamburgers and hot dogs and anyways. The guys see the humor. You can't believe the there's a million stories toe Anyways, The guys came over to the table where I was sitting and started arguing about appliances. Now some of those guys don't even know which end of a screwdriver to use. But they started arguing about facts about appliance and they had me gone well, Meanwhile, uh, Somebody snuck underneath the table cart underneath the table. Uh and, uh, Elsa Butkus is to be when you go over there on top of those racks and get some more mustard and ketchup. I said Okay, so I gotta and I walked away from the table. It took two steps and You see what happened is somebody snuck on a rate and to this day, I still don't know who it Woz and I looked down at my tennis shoes. And both of them were just covered with mustard. Mustard on a brand new tear pair 10 ish, and you know you can't get Must. I didn't care if you got to speak. Well, I guess you could with the speed Queen Wash. But anyways, I love down and saw the mustard on. And now when we have meetings, Okay, There's always the announcement by George Bowman, Our secretary and goaltender. Uh Yours yells. Oh, Okay, shoot, Jack. I immediate and everybody's still laughs about it as we go on in our old age, But that's a little story about the humor that is portrayed by these professional hockey players. Always been a big joke. Shoot, Jack. So take a look at your shoes today, Donald, get underneath the table and put mustard all of Berlin. The shoes. They're ruining the shoes. Okay, but who is only $150 joke, and they've got all sorts of lasts out. It still do today. That's my hockey story for this Sunday morning, ladies and gentlemen, and I take it and shoot it back to Donald A hammer. Schuster. I think when I ruined my shoes, I'm going to do it very Detroit style with chili mustard and onions the way to do it. Let's go Toe Belleville, see if we could help him out with this furnace. He's got a blower motor question. This is Mark. Good morning, Mark. Thanks for calling in the how may we help you? Good morning, Mr Gannon. Um I have a blower mortar and when it starts off it is so loud. The 1st 33 45 seconds and starts off. I want to know if you know how to quiet it down. Well, first of all, you know, the blower motor and the hardware that holds it in place may have some rubber mounts that hold it in place. You're gonna have to get in there to find out if that's true or not. And this is for a mobile home. All right course. Yeah, but you're still gonna have to get into that furnace yourself. Have you been into their mark to take a look? Yes, yes. Yeah. I just think it's just like I said, the first admission is not Robin on the shroud. I think you call it Housing. Is that first initial on the juice when the When the electricity is the voter, the startup wants to start spinning and quiet down that 1st 34 seconds. That's it. All right by my bed is 5 ft. Away from the furnace, And this is driving me nuts. All right, well, either you move out or you fix the problem just found out here's what Here's what I know. The You have to check what I'm talking about Motor mounts or whatever. Maybe when the furnace comes on, you pushed the motor with your finger or your hand or whatever. But if it's a bearing noise, and this is the way they start, okay, my suggestion to you is and it's a bit of the job. But take the motor out of there. Disconnected. Shut the power off to it. Take the motor out of it and go to the hardware store and get yourself a little bottle. Of turban. Oil. T u R B I am Yeah. Yes. Now if you hold the motor on end and you dropped 5 10 15 drops of turban oil down the shaft. It'll leak into the bearing in a migrate to the bearing. And if you do that, and you've only got one in, that's okay, if you got two ends on the motor, do it on both ends, but Put some oil into that bearing. And in some of those motors used to have a little caps on them On the end, you're you could oil the berry Yeah. So Now, if the turbine oil doesn't take care of it. And I know that Furnace Motors can costas, much as $600 plus toe have replaced. And this is the time when consumers like yourself should have AH, home won't warranty with DTE or Consumers energy. Whoever provides the energy to your home..

"It's the soft, mellow voice off. Donald the Hammer Schuster. Good morning appliance. Dr Joe Gannon for our audience. When Joe says we appreciate you tuning Assan when we're on Here's what he's referring to during the football season. Our show can be bounced around. So our regular time. A Saturday morning, six AM to ADM. Sunday morning, six AM Stadium. If there's a Michigan State game on Saturday, the schedule could be a rearrange. If there's a Lions football game on Sunday, the schedule could be arranged, rearranged. So just know that that's why we sometimes bounce around. But oftentimes if we're not on Saturday morning, we're right after the Michigan State football broadcast on Saturday afternoon, but that's what happens once football season has done. It's smooth sailing ahead. Now. Here's a pop trivia question just to awaken our audience this morning, So they're ready to give you a good sharp questions that you could answer. Joe, What is the difference? Between Joe Gannon this morning. What's the difference between Joe Gannon and Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn of the Detroit Lions? Well, hell joke. It is working. That's right. You again. It's got a job, you know, And nobody is not saying that mathematicians about Quinn. We're in great guys. But sometimes a change needs to be made. And evidently, that decision was made yesterday. Well, let's make a decision to call Joe Gannon this morning with your question, because that's how the whole show works. At the phone number is 808 590. W. J. R. So this is the first time we're giving it out. So grab something to write with or put it right in your phone. 808 5909571 more time. Nice and slow. 800 you can throw that one away. You remember that 800 So all you gotta remember now is 859. 0957 got a loyalist on the phone right now. Joe wants to know what brands of appliances to buy. She is from Clinton. This is Elena. Good morning, Elena. Thanks for joining us this morning. How we we help you? Good morning. I am building a new home. And I am certain toe look at appliances, and I'm just needing some Advice as to what is the best bring into by of each type of appliance? Well, I like to say, Listen, I'm an all American guy. I want to see people buying all American appliances and it's difficult to do in these days today. Because these appliances are made to look so much nicer than years past, and people tend to look at the appearance of a product, but I'll just I'll just start off by saying this to you. If you purchased an LG refrigerator between January 1st of 2014 and December 31st of 2017. That's three years. If you purchased an LG refrigerator, you should go to your computer and look up l g class action lawsuit because l G is now giving people back their money, their total dollars that they spent on these refrigerators, which means They've got a serious problem, and they're making restitution to consumers who have suffered many times for service calls and products that won't run. When you're talking about refrigerators try to stay with the American made product such as G and World, Paul. Yeah. There's one brand of product that I am gonna mention by name washer and dryer. I've said it 1000 times and continue to do so. Because speed Queen is the best washer and dryer you could buy in the market today. And by by far the best washer and dryer. If you want a washing machine that has a 35 or seven year full warranty, and I mean that means you pay nothing any time. There's a problem. A different models have different lengths of warranty. But speak queen is the only one that can say that They got the quality and the product that they can do that and not lose money on the deal, Dishwasher I am a Bosch believer of dishwashers. And they're not perfect. They have some problems once in a while, but the only guy that's perfect doesn't make dishwashers in this world today, but Bosch dishwashers and my rating Stoves. I believe in G e and world pull again. Again. American made products. So go shopping wisely when you're and don't let us sales person can you into buying a product that you shouldn't buy? Because I'll tell you, I get tons of e mails from people every weekend. The emails come flying at me, and I love him. I just loved to answer questions for people to teach them. What's good? What's bad? What the differences So you go shopping and any time you need to contact me when I'm not on the air? Well, Donald the hammer Schuster. There gives up my email address. Every program were on several times You'll give that to you. And you're always invited to let me know what your question is. E do have just a follow up question. Yeah, I'm doing a induction cooktop. And so My budgets kind of going toward that I had priced out this speed queen. So I'm thinking that I name Shifted my budget money a little bit to the induction cooktop. Do you have Ah! Another recommendation for Washington dryer. Yeah, I wouldn't be afraid to go with General Electric or World pool. Uh, but you remember this. Okay? The average life of washing machine today is 7 to 10 years on speed queens literature, They put it in writing. You can expect 25 plus years on this washer and dryer, so you may spend a few dollars more for a speed queen. But if you spend $700 for a world full and You spend $890 for a speed queen. The difference is gonna nail you down the road, so and you'll also you'll be questioning the wash ability factor. Are you happy with the washer?.

So it's a P p l d o c t at gmail dot com. Out to Macomb, Michigan. Now, Joe a question about his refrigerator from Joe. Morning, Joe. How may we help you? Morning, Joe. I have analogy side by side model 25984 and the icemaker refuses to make ice hold, Is it I'm going to guess it's about 10 years old. All right, the icemaker is still workable. And what's it not doing? Is it not making ice at all? Or are you having problems with clumping or anything like that? No, it was producing water in the water dispenser, right? But no, I was not feeling the best band. There's an arm in there. I know that. Shut off the ice maker when they've been at Ben gets full right? I kind of federal with that, but it is new. Anything. All right, Let's see if it's a water valve in will find a quick way to do that by you taking a plastic cup. That's bendable, filling it with water and filling the ice maker with water. Okay, then that should freeze that should dump that Tells you the ice maker is a okay. Okay. Now, if it does all of that, and I assume it will The water valve on the back of the refrigerator at the bottom. You followed the water line to the back of the refrigerator. Shut off the water supply Goto the water valve. And change the water valve. It's a dual water valve. Okay, There's two coils on it. One side is bad. The coil is defective. Okay, or those problems internally in the valve. All you have to do is order a new water valve for the refrigerator. And try to order a valve. That is not an O E m part. Do you know what I mean by that? Yes. Original equipment manifest. All right, try to order a part that is a revelation. A generic for that water valve. Why is it producing water, though in the water dispenser because it's a dual water vow one side for the icemaker one side for the water dispenser. Very good. Okay. And then I'd like to hear back from you are so what our listening audience I want you to confirm that the white haired old appliance doctor is correct. Will do. All right. Jo Jo's sometimes some wife must have allowed somebody a tame a coyote or a wolf. Otherwise we would have had dogs. Well, yeah, You're right. Vote that, okay? And it can happen and still does today in the AR north, the last good all over. People do tame the wolf. Okay. Very good. Thank you so much. They care. You A couple of weeks ago, You had a discussion on the phone with someone regarding his wash. Here, we're going to circle back to him. It's a guy from New London, Ohio that was named after a ballplayer that a batting lifetime average of 3 66. That's his tie isn't Annette's Ty? Good Morning, Ty? Thanks for calling. Good morning, Doctor. Thank you for taking my call. I wanted to give. I wanted to get back to you. I have some information for you and your listeners that I hope is helpful. Okay, Way had the world pool washer about six years old. Um Wouldn't agitate wouldn't spend I had replaced the, uh, actuators, which and that didn't do the trick. I replace the lids, which that didn't do the trick, either. And I was emailing you that night after we spoke, and I was getting ready to send it and I had an epiphany. I got the code book out. I read it. Ah, it's a little bit of Greek for most people, but I put the washer through on automatic. That cycle and then I put it through the calibration. Very easy to read. It's very simple to do it did the trick. It's running as we used to say in the Navy, hot straight and normal. How did how did how did you learn about all this stuff? Well, uh, my grandparents immigrated from Detroit before the war. We were taught not to quit. They were they were Detroit. Born raised came down here before the war. We grew up. We thought we were taught you fix it yourself. You can't fix it yourself. You find somebody you get some information. You know that technician that technician book which is hidden Inside the washing machine, but it is accessible. You can get to it. It's a very simple code. I don't know how long I mean, maybe this is a world pool. Seven years old, six years old could become it. Maybe just lost its mind is what I thought. Where was the technical sheet at Tai? Between the drum and the case of the machine. It's taped up inside there. You can only access it by tipping the machine over and reaching up in getting it. And I think most of the information like I said most most people is probably Greek. Ah, but it has all the full codes. But most importantly, It tells you how to do the calibration yourself. And it's very simple. If you exercise some patience, just read it. And do it, and it works more power to your tie. Now that's hope This helps people out. Yeah, because I was getting ready to take it up to the world full factory 20 miles up the road and drop it off and go buy a speed queen..

"Another way to stay in touch is Tio email the appliance Dr Joe Gannon directly at his own personal email. Here's the address. It's the first four letters of appliance followed by the first four letters of Dr At gmail dot com. So it's a P p l d o c t at gmail dot com. Going to the home of Metropolitan Airport. Rommie Lewis, Michigan a question about his washer from Tom. Good Morning, Tom. Thanks for calling Betty. I got a Uh, G top loader about 10 years old, has three dials. And What's happening is that it goes into a spin cycle on sounds like a 7 47. Now, unless you've got something stuck. Between the tubs. And it's hard to see that, okay? You're kind of, like, have to move the tub and get your hand in there and maybe you'll take a short piece of something that strong that won't break off and stay there. And start dragging it around the edge of the tub to see if you hit anything, because sometimes doesn't take much. Something coming out of a guy's pockets. Khun do that. But unless you've got that as a condition And it's probably not, but I'm just pointing it out. That you've got somewhere in the bearing assembly of this machine, something seriously wrong, You say it's 10 years old. Plus, it has a life span of 7 to 10 years. Yes, I'm leading up to something, eh? Be careful. Be careful how much money you spend on the repairs. Okay. I checked all the rubber..

"To call with your appliance repair question for the appliance, Dr Joe Gannon. Is 808 590. W. J R. It's 808 590957. Yeah, we got a listener from Oxford on the line. He's got a dishwasher. Five years old. Only problem with this dishwasher. Not washing dishes. This is Gary. Good morning, Gary. Thanks for calling and tell me about this dishwasher. Good morning. Yeah, the five year old G E and what happens? I'll tell you what's going on in there was what what I've done with it so far. What happens is that you'll hear the water going in. And then it'll stop and do nothing. You'll hear drain and then water goes back in for the next cycle stops. And are your you'll hear nothing again and then it drains into quits. I have. So it fills up with water. It doesn't spend or anything within it pumps the water out. I have gone through it like a clean some Perry. I took the bottom of the dishwasher part cleaned the sump area out. Make sure there was anything down there in the sub area. I'd pulled a couple I've pulled a couple of the arms off the spray arms and I was able just to blow air just blow through and you hear the air coming out of the outlets. So I know there's a drain pump in a recirculating pump. But when I've taken the the bottom front kick panel off of the washer When you would think the watershed with the washer should be spitting and spring dishes. I hear nothing. So I don't know that motor's actually actuated or if it's something that if it's if it's stuck on something, I just wouldn't hear it anyway. I'm looking for some advice is where to go next. If you open the door of the dishwasher, and you look on the floor inside the dishwasher. Do you see A like a little Upside down Cup. Yeah, I've got it. This is Aggie. It's got its floats, which is like a grace. That's great cylinder. Okay. I saw that I took that out and kind of shook it just to make sure it wasn't stuck or something. And there's nothing up inside that upside down Cup. Was there like a dork or a bottle cap or anything like that? I don't know. All right, that that's a safety device. So the machine when the water reaches a certain height that will trip the end. Shut off the water valve, okay? Okay? That's what that is the safety device. And now You gotta go to the motor of the machine. Is it running? Can you hear the motor running? I can only hear the motor. No, I cannot hear the motor running in that wood. It should be spinning. Yeah. I don't hear anything. Is it full of water? There is water in it. Yes. All right. Well, that motor's got to run before it's going to spray water. There's impeller is there you saw that the impeller is grabbed the water. Bring in and spread it out to the spray arms. But that motor's got to be running. Now It's five years old. Yes, sir. There's a Let's Ah door switch on this machine yet. Has to activate to get the order to run. And it's just a little trip switch, okay? Not expensive. And it's controlled by the touch pad control that you have on the front of the machine. But the lids which are the door switch. Can move because it's tied in place with two screws. And one of the screws can wear clothes. There's vibration in that dishwasher when it's running. So let's go to that section, where the latch is, you know where the handle is that opens and closes the machine. Yeah, well, that's the area where the door switch is Now you can take the two wires to the door. Switch off. Put him together. Let's see what happens after that. You're into the Electron IX of the machine. And now you start guessing. And if you make the wrong guess I don't know what the Electron IX part on the motherboard for that machine costs, But you'd better look that up before you go any further with it. Your repairs. Okay. Okay, I'll take a look at that. Thanks, Gary already enjoy you, too. Take care. Joe, I'll be the first to admit I'm a little protective of you. And here's my question. Why should you do all the heavy listening when we have a caller that I'm so appreciative? Right now? He's from Livonia, and he's got a couple of tips for us and our listeners. This is Donald. Good morning, Donald. Thanks for calling. How may we help you? Good morning. Appreciate all your advice have followed many of those things. One of my Li relocated a dryer. And pulled all the Exhaust dryer duck down. It had been taped with Duct tape. A lad off cleaned. It revised some fittings taped it with aluminum. Then I took the back off the dryer as you suggested, and Vacuumed out all the length that was.

"Five seven appliance doctor Joe Gannon is here with his son Andrew Gannon today Joe Nader tells a little bit about Andrew's background so we know why he knows what he's talking about so much well a lot of people out there familiar with Andrew when I was here eighteen years ago Andrew and I used to work the home shows all over the place and big shows with great Haiti and all of the staff here we were very involved and it was a big part of it answering questions for consumers up on the stage and when I bought a business in back in nineteen seventy nine and it was just a little guy and one of three sons and he became a service technician the delivery expert he has been in the service industry Andrew how many years I don't know that a long time I think yeah over thirty well I would say yeah boy that seems makes me feel old no kidding yeah Hey all all that's okay that's okay that's what life is any ways he's been around the middle and he knows what he's doing and the nice thing about Andrew he's very very presentable personable very very honest and up to the front with everybody talks to so Andrew my pleasure and proud to have you here well it's an honor to be here thank you on all right Donald I see which of the two of you might want to help Jim from wind out with a question about his stackable washer dryer all right Jim thanks for calling how may we help you good morning Sir thank you for posting a call you're welcome the prisoner affinity vibration control office capacity washer yeah hearing sometimes want to run through the cycle we get to close out you're still mourning what it intermittent problem it doesn't happen all the time how old is it I'm sorry about six years old all right I heard you say before going over lotus we don't overload you know yeah sounds like it sounds like it's not spinning fast enough Jim yeah well we put our heads are spinning R. but not art yeah indeed even when it run down there of the calls still come out west of me running through a cycle again like yesterday we had to do two or three targets before the closing is going out this is a top load washer sorry what so to front load washing machine problem Corey followed yes well you might not be pumping out all the water yeah to that product you got to get into the palm is there a separate panel down on the bottom that you can remove there aren't we no there's not then the whole front I believe that washer comes off okay the front does yeah and then I I've only if that's the one I'm thinking of there's a pump there with a little handle on it that you can actually remove R. to clean the pump out okay and if it's not pumping all the water out it's not going to spend properly and yes your clothes are gonna come out really wet where does your drain holes go well behind the washer down to the basement in a stand pipe right yes yes okay I I will pull that drain holes out of there see how far how far does that drain holes go into that standpipe well you know I'd have to take a look at that I don't know okay I would take a look at that tooth because if it's not if it's trying to push water through water it's not going to pump it out properly are you you're saying yes okay the couple things that okay the most return no thank you Jim very nice of you to call this morning where to go to somebody rolling down the highway in Ohio right now with a question about his dishwasher this is beer good morning peered good morning fine thank you regarding your previous conversation I want my dishwasher be the hundred fifty but I don't wanna turn up all the rest of the water in the house can I it is it normal to put a tankless water heater in line with the washer that's an awful lot of money just for your dishwasher or washing all right I was just wondering if that's a thing some people do so sorry if you've got the box okay go ahead so is it you said it has to be a hundred and fifty should be is honored forty okay you know our goal our risks call hundred and forty is good it's a lot better than what that gentleman said a hundred degrees or whatever but you cannot kill bacteria this is I'm this is becoming a worldwide story by the way you cannot kill bacteria in a clothes washer in the clothes or in your dishwasher one less the water's hot enough to kill the bacteria since the reason doesn't appear okay or is is there a product that is antibacterial dishwashing elixir blew it or watching search no yeah all the judges a good but you know and when you come to detergents and and bacteria and water it's so critical I mean I can't stress the I can't stress the because their studies going on worldwide right now across this world about bacteria and washing machines and in dishwashers and right now this world is on the verge of the most awareness ever in the history of this world on the subject of bacteria okay if the clothes get dried thoroughly in the guard you have to deal with the box sure would be you know if you got a that gives me the one fifty it's a close get dry in the dryer yeah what kind of temperature range that yeah hundred forty hundred fifty okay and I have one comment regarding the coronavirus I saw a video on how to make a mask out of vacuum cleaner bags not made up so that's the thing you know you can your listeners now know they can look it up on the internet what yeah there's been such a shortage well guess what also one other note on that I drive a truck so I'd get out out about a lot of the store to putting up the plexiglass screens as a sneeze guard to protect the court and to protect the customer from the clerk so anyway I'm glad I was able to get that out there thank you very much thanks for calling and drive carefully with that big truck this country needs truckers across this eight more minutes on the clock exactly enough time to get to the rest area about well hello to me there are some people in your household well good to hear and thanks for calling is nice to hear from a trucker take care bye bye gio sons are helping out people on the highway about Walt and Sinclair with the question but as whirlpool good morning world thanks for calling in how may we help you good morning all yeah I've got a whirlpool and when you brought up for clones if you throw out all the water it really does an agitate that you can see and if you just talk John near Decatur and all that the one sided it works fine really okay he wait well how old is this how old is this washing machine won't I would say close to ten years all right okay Andrew S. at how many of those you fixed and just a few that yeah do you have a four little gears there called dogs in the answer is your agitators a two part agitator the need to remind all elders but yeah well that educator needs to come out and you need to four dogs need to be installed how does he take the agitator out and usually there's a cap on the top yep seven sixteenths bolt elemental yeah take the boat out grabbed the bottom of the educator and pull up and then the agitator comes apart right comes apart this is kind of where it gets a little tricky yeah but you have to pull the agitator apart to get to the four dogs that are bad all right so he's got a whole the base down yep Bradley part the upper part of the agitator pull up and it'll cut it should break free yeah some of the the agitators the little tabs that are supposed to break free yeah get the kind of melted on there so you might have to take a little screwdriver and hammer and break that little melted part but it should come apart should come off and then you go all out from just right on the top of the machine will take the agitator has to come out of the machine okay and one that I can do is worry Jen from there and retired or do I have to go underneath no you don't have to go underneath are you working with is the agitator just the agitator okay mark when you get it done it'll work like it's supposed to yeah make a little piece of home okay article thank him for your very welcome thanks for calling would take a little pause in the action here pay the rent come back with more information on the home and appliance radio program right here on news talk seven sixty W. J. R. we are here every Saturday.

"W. J. R. with Joe Gannon the appliance doctor welcome back to the home appliance show we've got a listener and if the landing with a question about her washing machine this is Merrin good morning Maryland hi thanks for calling how may we help you well you know this happened yesterday and I was so glad that I could call you today I have a whirlpool washing machine up front load and it's about ten years old I've never had a problem with that and yesterday I went on the boat and it was it was the I can't get the door open there was two minutes on the timer and I can't get the door open and I pushed all the sequences that I can think of on the buttons and L. I. S. it's blocked close advance longer M. leftism plugs for about a half hour it still won't open well I want you to leave it unplugged for longer than that if you did it for half an hour fine okay but I like to say an hour or more so I would leave it unplugged for a couple of hours and see what happens okay now the other thing I'd like you to do is I'd like you to get some warm vinegar heat up a little bowl of warm white vinegar take a perfectly clean cloth and wipe up wipe off the touch pad control not don't soak it okay I I don't I don't want you to shorted out but I want you to dampen a cloth with warm vinegar wipe off the touch pad control and then after you've done that dry it off with a piece of Kleenex not paper towel a piece of Kleenex or tissue paper and and leave it unplugged for a couple of hours now by the time next weekend rolls along the K. so will you but you can always send me an email those closest gonna start getting moldy and there yeah I got to get him out right exactly I'm thinking crowbars right no no G. No hone who don't do that the oh boy I can't even suggest anything close to that okay okay but when that lock that lock mechanism is jammed for a reason I don't know what it is but it has to do with electronics and it's not something you can be hard on let's put it that way well I just started in the basement and I turned it back on and it still won't open and I'm pushing the the stock cycle button the red cancel button and it won't do anything and it is running there's something yeah and not until it's gone to forty five minutes all right well now's the time to shut it off all right okay wired with Banneker yep now you know I have a couple short questions that you probably can't help me with I my dryer I have a Samsung dryer and it it runs perfectly but it won't heat is it gas or electric gas the other is a gas valve in the bottom of that dryer there's a global coil that ignites the gas can you see that the global oil that gas valve through a little hole in the bottom not you mean inside inside the dryer no no on the outside of the dryer at the bottom now I can't see anything on the outside of the dryer on the side on the front of bottom of the dryer he look for a little round peephole of some sort because you have currently have a probably and nobody's fool around with the gas line in the house right no all right then you've got a problem with the gas valve and you're most likely going to need a service technician for that okay okay all right all right and I have an LG microwave that two days ago stop eating how old is that six months that's all that's still under warranty that's got a year's warranty on it doesn't get it but I called the company and they.

"With Joe Gannon the appliance doctor welcome back to the home appliance show and again a good Sunday morning ladies and we hope that last hour and forty five minutes as taken away from not that we need to be taken away from everything else going on in the world today how depressing it can be for so many people and how it's like you need a break we all need a break I know we need a break and I know you do as well so we in joy giving you that break although it's only for a few hours during the day but here is another aspect of what's going on in the world today will get back into the subject here for just a fifteen minute period so with mark cut off from high level clients in downtown Chelsea's been there since nineteen twenty eight he's not that old but he and his two brothers along with his dad still in existence today running the operation which I consider to be one of the finest if not the finest appliance retailer in the United States of America good morning to you mark hydra hi Joe how are you doing this morning I'm good how are you up in Adam on a day off I might add yeah they're kind of all Monday also lately they're really different yeah you know it's kind of different for a young man like you that has been running this operation I had lots of plans for a lot of years where you're always working you're always involved in your community you're a leader in Chelsea Michigan and a leader in the appliance industry as well and mark what's been going on here for the last few weeks when anticipating another few weeks well it's been totally different that's for sure or operating with a store with a show room closed right now so that's a little different I've thought about that a lot lately Joe sensor sensor buildings them built the front door hasn't been locked this long ever so maybe a maybe a long weekend of certainly not for a week or ten days so that sounds so far well it's been such a hard working family all these years and it doesn't stop it still goes on today you're still operating the business even though the show room is closed yes we're we're a little bit more limited on phones or answering phones from a lot of time to chew and dealing with any phone messages and all are getting in touch with us on our website so were able to still do some business and sell some things people are able to come and pick stuff up from our warehouse if they need to and we're doing our merchants the only deliveries that stuff that we absolutely need to help people with at this time well while on that subject let me give to our listening audience a method of operation that's gone on there since nineteen twenty eight when your grandpa Lloyd started that business and the method of operation that is so different than maybe most parts of the country so different and rare it's hardly done anywhere but mark I know that people call you and I've talked to some of these people in the past and even lately where they call and they say yeah I need a new washing machine mark and or they're talking to one of your sales people and I needed to wash machine and well here's what I want large tub full load of hot water would you mind delivering it to the house mark the key is under the pot on the step good now yes we yes we do some of that still yeah and that's so rare that it's so rare it why because people trust you the simple as that well we've up we've been around for a long time of course and we have a lot of really really good customers that we've done business with for a long time they're they're just a comfort level there so will we can go and take care of them and do that aside like that's not a problem for yes and mark you also have your brother Steve and Matt who work with you and even your father who still has an office downstairs in the beautiful downstairs yeah he is still family it's all family isn't well yes on our employees our family we have people that work for us for a long time so it is a little different environment and we in getting through the situation with the covert nineteen of the Rick real concern for all of us for our customers for staff it's it's going to change a lot of things in the way business operates going forward so it's a real challenge getting through and managing all those well you know you're on the front line here when you're delivering products and having people around you and you do it smartly and you know it and I don't get a chance to do it like the Paul W. show that Mitch album show guy Gordon at those guys Frank Beckmann I don't have a chance to say this but I do now to be recommended as the front runners first responders of everything that's going on is the medical industry today mark right I know a police chief I talked to yesterday a relative in my family and you know those police officers are also on the front line but you had no he said to me this police chief no not name them but he said to me thank of what I'd be be like if you were working in the hospital today in the medical industry image credit is gonna be they've got to be commended and praised for ever for ever all Joe in you know work we're dealing with appliances and and that's it a totally different level than everyone else so you're just you're talking about here I mean this is an inconvenience for us and for Ford are customers of it there is a lot more serious issues right now for people and in the medical people and the first responders that's just a totally different ballgame than what we're in this is an inconvenience we'll get through it yes we do a few weeks or a month it'll be back to whatever the new normal is going to be but but right now it's just an inconvenience well mark you know I'd like to know what's going to happen down the road are we gonna have availability product problems too I see world fully shutting down their plants and for a few weeks and so forth yeah are we gonna have availability products the problem we are organized you were going to go through that and a lot of industries especially ours you know right now Joe I've got a pretty decent amount Tory I've been able to ship some product and you know my warehouses full we're just you're not delivering a lot of course so I feel like coming out of this will be in good shape for a while but I think thirty to sixty even the ninety days down the road we're going to really start seeing some availability issues there are plants that are shutting down to stop production for a week or two do some cleaning that's going to really affect the pipeline of product availability so we're we think this summer is going to be really different well I think you're absolutely correct and by golly you know you're you're in the know mark I mean you're in the know you belong to a buying group that does a terrific job for you guys and they keep abreast of everything that's happening in the appliance industry daily and hourly and yes I think we're gonna have some problems down the road with availability we are buying group experience or so a lot of us the dealers of our size or smaller independent dealers around the state our our member of brand source and we get a lot of support from them had a lot of conference calls and this week to go over things and will will be working together to help each other through a I just talked to a gentleman before your phone call here this morning from Celine he was interested in induction cooking and I was telling him all about my Darling Valerie and her new G. E. induction stove now happy but he's coming over to your place he's buying a whole house full good yeah we have induction live on our floor so we like to demo what we do we do a lot of production cooktops and ranges it's it's a great system it is a great system mark in it isn't picking up speed here in the United States you'll hear much from yeah we sell a lot more now than what we ever did in the past it's it's sort of more economical price point than it was years ago and yeah it's just but it's such a nice awesome way to cook and mark listen correct me if I'm wrong but is it Sweden that nine out of ten homes have induction cooking so it could be I don't know what they think and it's big in Europe so I have no that statistic but it's possible so what's the hottest moving line you have mark B. side speed queen we know speed queen what it does and we preach it all the time I talk about it all the time and but besides speed queen products what's the hardest line this gentleman was talking about a wolf and a subzero and so forth those are big big price items but they sell a lot of them yeah we do we do a lot of Cold War from subzero business but that's at a different price levels on the main line appliances G. is probably our biggest brand who do a lot of Frigidaire and whirlpool brand products Bausch's very very popular for us so I move a lot of bosh Thermador is their uptrend lines so we save we stay pretty busy with a lot of different brands to depending on the product category well I told this gentleman hi gloss does not sell junk well we try not to see happen we we have a broad range of appliances and there's the expensive phone in in the well built products like speed queen and that have really long warranties but then there's the economical point this too and I don't want to column junk but Hey don't certainly last as long as some of the others I'll call on junk mark I'll take the burden right off your shoulders it would be okay with no problem and anything going on currently during this shutdown period in regards to you need anything you're doing their special well what what we're trying to stay engaged with their customers via the website and via the phone the best we can it's really hard not having a retail showroom right now but we're we're still writing a lot of business for products that we know customers are going to need in over the next month or so we've got some future business with houses being done in apartment buildings that were working on and we're shipping product in just to make sure that we have a we're just hoping we're not shut down for too long a period of time to get things back to normal but it's it's kind of it's a.

"Joe Gannon the appliance doctor welcome back to the home of the client show we still got another strong half hour ahead of us at seven thirty three on Saturday March twenty eighth and we are the home appliance show ready to take your call just like we're doing right now from Tony in the pier with a question about his freezer good morning Tony thanks for calling and how may we help you Sir I have a hold Montgomery Ward freezer and it's been sitting for three or four years we are correct required it and I want to plug it in about three days ago and the temperatures only getting down about fifty degrees whose R. sum I'm also I can be looking at now it's a freezer upright freezer chest freezer chest freezer now there's not much can go wrong with those as long as you say to me yes the compressor is running yes it's running all right well if the compressor is running and you're not cooling to the temperature you want or great then you've got a you what they call a sealed system problem there's not much you can do what happened during that period where it sat still quiet I'll give you my analogy okay it in a sealed system of a refrigerator freezer whatever I vacuum is pulled in on that product at the factory when it's built a vacuum is put on there a vacuum pump and is pulled down to negative but there's always a little tell tiny drop of moisture the size of the head of the street that little drop of moisture is in the system and it's okay Wallace running causes running through the oil and the compressor and drawn through the lines and everything but when it sets it grows are you with me so far yep totally understand all right so when it grows it ends up plugging up capillary tubes that are in the system and creates your kind of problem so there's not much you can do except if you've got someone with the expertise to put a vacuum pump on that machine cut into the system laid the refrigerant out of it and they have to recycle that refrigerant these days and then recharge it after creating a vacuum on it for a couple hours there is the possibility that that will fix that but you'd have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a qualified refrigeration technician to do that all right so I mean if it's it's something I could do myself I don't know if it was if it was worth it not unless you've been in the refrigeration business for years okay okay all right perfect thank you hello thank you for calling and joining us and helping me educate the rest of the listening audience and make them all the more aware of the smarter consumer on the subject of major home appliances that's it a Waterford Joe this is Kathy on the line with a question regarding a refrigerator hello Kathy thanks for calling in how may we help you HL I called last week about land manor refrigerator the temperature had dropped and it was leaking water and you said to call back so I had a service person come out and it was diagnosed to be the compressor and I'm on a home warranty policies so they're going to buy me a new refrigerator who so I want you know what of a certain dollar amount up to thirteen hundred so I went shopping my biggest issue is the caller all my appliances that almond color he had so I'm limited to my choice for my choices are limited what do you think of the G. E. refrigerator I've got one at home okay right yeah and we're very happy with that I've got a French door you know the freezes on the bottom and we're quite happy with the product is keeping things proper and and it's only a year old but you know he's doing the job okay all right is the G. energy starrer refrigerator I think get energy star yes now let me ask you a question you got a hold on home warranty on this through hold on I always forget their names home hello home machine O. okay now SO it's paying off for you to have this warranty right oh god yeah hello I just moved into the house five weeks ago and this is happening to me okay good well I'm glad is helping you with the dollar factor that refrigerator purchase and it's very nice of you to call me back I appreciate that some extra help around cell here around hold me out I am always around to help you out here thank you okay they carry thank you bye bye it is so good to have a man around the house Hey it we got a question regarding washer from a gentleman a Rochester this is Mike hello Mike thanks for calling how may we help you yeah sure good morning show well I'm looking more of a preventative so our maintenance our suggestion forty on a KitchenAid washer that on average probably about also when I think about fifteen years old it's kitchens superpower three speed whisper quiet extra capacity heavy duty yeah the only thing I had done I had to replace the timer actually twice within the past five years and up item is pretty pricey is like a hundred fifty Bucks yes everything is running now I replaced the hoses you know with the Brady type a couple years ago good that's the only other thing I've done it uses a lot of water but maybe that's a good reason to hang out and do it because it uses water and watch as well but my wife seems to think that you know god bless and the women they really sensitive server appliances running and she seems to feel it's wearing out so that being said what what is something you should I'm sure if it when it does scale should I look at the you know Dylan doing the maintenance on it or what what's the quality rating or even well when you're washing machine which is now fifteen years old which is past its normal lifespan your past it yeah and you've got to start taken looking at what you're going to spend on repairs because something's going to happen down the road here now do you have just you and your wife and you have children I'm much diss washer it got a lot of work with the kids and they they are less than one on their own within the past three years okay so it's had a lot of use yes yes where you just became players to hockey players a goalie forward so you can appreciate that the clothes washing rinse and going through college and staying at home yeah yeah I don't know if the kids were listing last night but between seven and eight o'clock Darren McCarty was on was John believe gin and their McCarty's got his own radio program here on Friday nights but we'd actually seven enabled he's he's a he's a lot of fun to listen to them here's here's yeah yeah that's a great sport yes some wonderful people that we've met along the way so anyways I'm just going to say to you be careful because okay something's going to happen one of these days were you going to say all this is too serious to spend money on Dr and at that point you go looking at the speed queen brand washing machine that's that's what we're gonna do is prepare ourselves for that day when it does come is to head over to Chelsea yeah well good luck to you okay thank you Sir hello thank you for calling very nice of you let's head north Jo to lady who's near Davison this is Elaine with a question regarding our dishwasher Alain jets good morning to you and thanks for calling how may we help you well good morning we've got a group of GE profile dishwasher and use it then when when I go to and get that water left in the bottom of that well this week when I went to India why didn't really empty as I stepped in front of the dishwasher and stepped in water and come to find out the water was leaking downstairs to the basement so we've got a problem with that yes when I walked by the dishwasher runs ended a drought is finished then there's water left in the bottom I can see it I can feel that well Elaine first of all they're supposed to be a little water left in the bottom but not on the floor outside so just know that they're supposed to be a small amount of water in the bottom of the dishwasher when it's all done because the water keeps the seals on the shaft of the motor mores so they don't dry up and shrink up and cause a leak down the shaft of the motor on to the floor into the basement so you need to take that kick panel off on the bottom of the dishwasher and it might be a couple of screws or clips that you take off but that kick panel comes off now you get a flashlight and you look down there and you see where the water is coming from and you might see that the water is coming down the shaft of the motor over the edge of the motor on to the floor and that's where you're getting the water accumulating downstairs so if you take that panel off you can see the water coming through yeah that's right you'll be able to see where the water is coming from and if you have a little problem seeing where the water's coming from remember this old trick from an old appliance white haired servicemen take a little baby powder talcum powder just throw a handful in there you're not going to hurt anything and you'll be able to see the trace of water which goes through the baby power okay okay kami back in let me know all right thanks bye job thanks very much take care all right we're gonna take a little pause in the action right now and pay the rent come back with more information all the way through till.

And I want you guys to hear it, and I want you to hear from Steve, one of the owners here, why you need to come out to the open house and, and get a handle on wrap your brain around what a generic standby power solution is going to mean for you, especially if you have a home business, and you're sick and tired of power outages during stormy weather. We have been talking a taunt about soils potting soil compost. Tha? Today. They're a lot of companies that we've talked about from soil mentor, to nature's way to top-shelf organic to the ground up and I mentioned them at the very earliest stages. The ground. Oh, by the way, I got one of these search. It's an it is an ex it'll Arjun extra-large. I got one eighty shirts from the ground up about their bohemian potting soil. It's really kind of cool as a cantata I'd shirt, if you will, and it represents their new newest potting soil that's called boat. My bohemian potting soil and really good stuff from the ground up. And since we were talking about that today and using it in containers and using it and grow boxes or new or earth boxes, I want you to someone to have this shirt, so you can choose this over the as you might bag, if you want to, I'll give it to our promotion staff, and they'll take care of that for you. Did did did Ted ever lay into you ever know? But I laid into him. Really? I was the last guy to hit him on the ice. Is that right now? That's a true story was the. He was approaching seventy approaching fifty. Let's say that's why I look so good today. Okay. I started skating with the alumni the redwing alumni. Yeah. And he's on the team, but we have practice once a week. So he's on the red team. I'm on the blue team. And the guy said to me when he comes up the ice. Let them come up center ice and come up to the blue line and take a shot and then leave him alone. Don't touch him. Well, he come up. I'm playing defense. I got Eddie meal in the net behind me, and he came up the ice, and he's just about ready to cross the blue line, and he's only like three inches from me. And my hip there's something about my hint. Accidentally young into overnight Clifton and he's slid into the corner he got up and he's looking for me. Okay. Here's this old bugger looking. Where are you? Where are you like halfway through the arena? Yeah. Good. Headed for ten minutes. Yeah. And then we go into the dress really taking a shower, you know, the gear off and everything else and lefty Wilson the old trainers sitting beside me, and he says he staring down. Joe? Look over there. And there is on the bench. You know? I said that old bugger comes over here. He just level of cold. Yeah. So I had a new bag with rollers on. This was a new thing. Okay. Need only send that to me. Anyways. I'm walking out we all dress. Now, we've showered and I'm walking on you, still stared. And we're in Joe Louis downstairs. Yeah. Anyways, I'm walking out holding the bag and on the rollers, and he looks at mesas. What's that just like that? What's that? I never said anything. I just walked in there. He is beside me now. And he's got his bag on his shoulder. And I'm really, and he said, what is this thing? I said Ted when you played somebody carried your banks. When I played I carried them now who's the smarter ones.
