"In time. And at one stage, we were sort of a 105. To ten, we were losing and facing abject humiliation. So me and Joe Farrell decided I think then that we were just going to press the button if we felt like we had the right answer. And we managed to chlor our way up to a 125 points in the end, but we still with respectable. Yeah, so we didn't totally embarrass ourselves. Good. That was a good strategy. So you do have a lot of books in here. Is there any sort of rhyme or reason to which ones are in here and which ones are elsewhere? These are all my old ones basically sort of first edition sort of line that had been sort of I've collected over the years, rather than having a pension I've sort of collected books really. Do you not have a pension? Not real. Well, not a very good one. That makes me feel bad, 'cause neither do I got some lovely these first editions. Yeah. Got some lovely ones. When did you start collecting those? About 20 years ago. And just sort of collect here and there from old book fares online auctions that kind of thing. Are there any that you're particularly pleased with? Yes. Where is it? What's the one? Yeah. This one, this is the bell jar. Oh, wow. But it was also Sylvia Plath, but she it was originally published under a suit of them of Victoria Lucas. I didn't know that. Oh my God. I feel like I should be wearing gloves. That's beautiful. I love that book. Were you a bit horrified when I put my cup of tea here on the shelf with all your valuable books? I tried to restrain myself. Try to not appear to control you. So what else?.

"And he's got to say that guy You know, you can't get the image Biden playing air guitar, but the thing I want to bring up is I feel as though there is a different standard, depending on which candidate or talking about so just to compare the two isn't that hard to do when you don't when one has such a low standard, and another one has such a high standard. That no, absolutely absolutely trumps low standard comes from the fact that he has He has never tried to reach beyond his base. But usually you elevate yourself a bit because you want to reach out to those folks who haven't voted for you. He has never never done that. Biden has a tougher job right. He wants to get some trump voters in his tent. He wants to get to know those white working class people in Wisconsin in Pennsylvania in Michigan, who voted for Trump, so he's got a tougher game to play on that absolutely, Trump could just stick to what he's been doing. Which he thinks will work for him. But Biden's got a tougher, tougher jobs. For sure. The idea that everybody's pretty much made up their mind seems like fairly sound reasoning. I mean, it's tough to think that they're legitimately. Those voters that haven't quite decided. I always read about them. I just write about one or a couple today, you know, and they always find them. But I always wonder are these people just are they looking because there's almost a sexy quality to being undecided right now or they legitimately undecided s O. I guess what I'm getting at in the context of the debate is, Isn't it really just confirmation bias on both sides. I mean, it's like rooting for your team. Absolutely. There was a poll just out over the weekend. That said 70% of the people who intend to watch the debate say the debate won't change their mind. They're walking into it with a closed mind that they admit to. I think the number is even higher than that. I think you're right in terms of truly undecided voters. Your party looking at around 5%. I think Who are those people? All I don't know. They are probably folks who don't follow politics all that much. And you know the kind of folks who vote every presidential year and that's about it. Gosh, and with that number, that's an amazing statistic. By the way, I mean, with that number kind of tells you. Ah, why? After each debate since 2016, they're guy won, Right? I mean, everybody claims victory. You know what side you're on. You know, there's a thing in psychology called the bias Blind spot, which is, you know, every human being thinks that he or she has completely unbiased, but that everyone else is very much and you know, and Trump place to that, and things like Fox News played that in MSNBC in their own way place to that bias. Well, we'll check out his column all tweeted for you. It's Joe Farrell of the columns in the Hill. He's an award winning media executive producer, journalist, former executive vice president of programming for CBS television. We talked about it. Been the exec over supervising Judge Judy and Dr Phil on entertainment tonight. So you know America. So that's why I love that you weigh in on this. And, of course. Now you're the darling of Fox News Channel. I don't know. It's kind of a weird.

"Is a Kim McAllister is here this week for Brett. So say hello to Kim. Okay, show good. How are you? Listen, if you and Mark want to just keep talking, I'll keep holding. Ah, look, You know, I got a lot to do here. Oh, wow. Okay, well Joe's only one attitude here. It's mine. Ah, the deal. You know, Joe Joe is very tight with Judge Judy and Dr Phil. So if you I don't know. I'm just going to get six or some psychological help. Watch your step is all I'm saying is a very powerful man. I love your take on this late in the latest column on what's going on America's newsrooms because there have been and you can maybe give us a snapshot of it. Some resignations at places like The New York Times and talked about high profile papers and news organizations that you sort of think of as beyond sort of Ah cultural litmus test or political limits. Chest and indeed, there are many saying who resigned in these newsrooms. There is just that there is a litmus test and you really have to toe the line. Yeah, There's a bit of a civil war going on in some of the top newsrooms across the country, right where if you don't check all these boxes, Maybe you don't belong here and it's ideological in a lot of ways. It's cultural, definitely in terms of how newsrooms Cover race and gender, how they cover a white House that isn't truthful with them. But what what I what I think the mark is that below All of that all of that is is true. Below. All of that is an anger and frustration among young reporters, diverse reporters, women reporters that they've entered into a shrinking business where there are fewer and fewer job opportunities. And more and more layoffs, and that creates fear and anxiety. And I think people are just sort of tried to grab for their piece of this incredibly shrinking pie, and that's what's sort of the fueling all of this stuff. It was so interesting as I read your column to read that part because it hadn't occurred to me because you can get sort of lost in the fog of war when it comes to the cultural battles in a newsroom, And as you suggested, this highly pitched a moment in the political dialogue. Right, Listen and newsrooms have gone through these cultural battles before. In the sixties and seventies, there were very similar cultural battles around objectivity and looking for a deeper truth and attacking the Johnson and Nixon administrations for lying about Vietnam. How we cover race. How we cover feminism Back in the sixties and seventies. The difference, Wass. Journalists who felt they were confined by the establishment media could leave. They could go to the village voice. They could go to the L. A weekly or the Chicago reader. They could hop over to TV. There was this whole alternative press that was growing by leaps and bounds in the sixties and seventies. The alternative media these days for this young generation is blowing up like everything else. It's digital media like Buzzfeed and Fox. Advice that is doing the same amount of layoffs and furloughs and budget cutbacks. Is everybody else So there's nowhere for those journalists to go to? There is no escape. There are no choices, no options for them and when you feel trapped You begin to fight. And that's what we're seeing. I think on some level So These good minds and I think those who produced good products in these various newsrooms and in these various forums that you've described They have fewer and fewer options. What happens to them? They just get washed away and they try to set up an independent. I mean, there are more and more I'm talking about Pulitzer Prize winning journalist setting up their own set up their own shop in effect. But that's the fear, right is like OK, What do I do? Enter the gig Economy, For God's sakes, you know, become the journalism equivalent of a lift driver for someone who has gone who sold a story A meritocracy story. Hey, you go to a great college to go to a good J school and you're gonna have a great place inside the gates of your chosen profession. And so here I have all the student debt. And I got, you know, layoff threatened every single day. So what should I do? Jump ship and hope I can make it on with a blogged. It's very difficult looking newsrooms in the US have lost half their jobs since the great recession of 2008 began half So if you're 35 years old right now, you were just getting out of college when the great recession hit and you decide to go into journalism, and it has been nothing but 12 years of instability, layoffs, job hopping. Job cuts. And if you're young and your divers or your woman, you're probably last hired. First fired and you're kind of set up and what you're saying to these guys is. Look, you've got to change the rules here. I can't be the first person on this very long list of people about to be fired. You know, I got, you know, just because I'm young or I'm divers are on the woman and I got here a lot later than the other people write last in the door. First out the door. The raging culture war inside America's newsroom is the column from Joe Farrell. Oh, it's in the hill and I'm posted on my Twitter feed. But, Joe, I want to ask you the next step then..

"Hotel and suites breakaway and Rozario restaurant Hey guys welcome back to a food for thought right before the break we were talking with the Joe Farrell from the Tuscan kitchen restaurant you're still on the line right Joe yes I am before we went to break we were talking about your staff coming back and you said they were really excited to be back on the job and that was one of the big concerns for business and or restaurant owners would people be anxious to come back but you found out they did I you know I mean we did I mean you know in some cases it listen it buries right and then some cases folks are staying home for various reasons you have that you know we've all kind of had a conversation about the unemployment benefits and stuff like that and and you know ultimately benefits are temporary or jobs permanent so I mean it and we have to look at you know really our boys are family yeah what do you guys got the opportunity to come back and and and start walking away with with their task embodies it you know they came back and and we're super proud we're we're super proud of the folks that state I was super proud of the folks that came back and you know where we are knock on wood right now but but we're we're pretty encouraged by the by the first week of this outdoor dining experienced yeah I was talking to you Joe are in the very early stages of the pandemic and you said one of the toughest days you've had in your career was having to furlough employees my god that was a total of just under five hundred people by four hundred seventy five mile radius of the exact number but anyways the I I made a video for everybody and I I said I actually got a motion on the end of it because you know they use this thing to shut off overnight yeah I it was like almost like we went out of business or something it was the weirdest yeah I've been in business since nineteen ninety one and I've never experienced anything like that it was it was it was traumatizing actually this is a crazy few months for everybody obviously and but it tested are it's tested are resolved in a tested our creativity and our ingenuity and our desire to innovate and adapt and I think that there I think the restaurant industry ability it is gonna be stronger for it I really do yeah I think I agree with that horrible things yeah I mean look at the top but you know all of my you know tolerance for two hours in the Boston area unbelievable thanks you know I mean you can get yelled delivery and and and you know all kinds of take out different different dinners you know Jennifer to curbside pick up and you know by you know by groceries at restaurants and stuff like that I mean it's just been a lot of innovation and and that just speaks to how how passionate these restaurateurs are well you know it's interesting job because they say in business competition only makes you stronger only makes you more aggressive and I think in a crisis like this it makes you think even more and makes you come up with ideas under pressure it really does and and you know we can speak to what we're doing but I see a lot of cool stuff you know around around the area but you know we've reinvented Tuscan market I mean all the butchery that we're doing in all the different packages that family meals and the things that we're doing online delivery local delivery curbside pick up personal shopping it's just it's I I I can't I can't believe you know everybody has just kind of gone into action right away because you know life is simple when you have no choice really yeah simple you just have to do it but you know I couldn't help but think a lot like as the pandemic hit you were on the verge of finishing a giant construction project and you were about to swing the doors open on Tuscan village so how did you get through that and where does that stand right now you know it it it's all about loyalty it's all about being great partners in you whether that be vendors or contractors or banks or or the people that work with us at the top the bill aged you know what we finance that Tuscan village right in the middle of a pandemic and I you know what I have to say I I you know Berkshire bank and northern bank and you know the guy that waterway capital that we you know and then all of the businesses that stuck with us you know mass General Hospital L. B. Bari bart Williams Sonoma drive custom fit you know chase bank Jamal at all all of the the the the the tenants that stuck with us and said you know what we love it we're staying where we're with you and you know we're we're coming we're in full construction mode right now thank god you know because of because of their faith in our vision and and that's pretty special too because that debt financing we close that financing April fifteenth wow closed it from zoom while I was sick with lots they are you don't really want to be friendly with your banker is don't you what's that bag Berkshire bank is so great that you're in the middle of a pandemic you have the corona virus as do does your wife as well as one of your three kids you're building a mall basically I mean it's more than a village if you haven't been up there folks it's it's an amazing undertaking and you actually finalize the deal while in Europe corona bad yes the from my yeah from my doing carpet carpet zero I don't know about that but we just we do all we have to do and you know doesn't kill us I suppose it only makes us stronger so what's the ETA on Tuscan village what part of it is done what part of it is still to be done where's it stands don't phase one which is the northern side of the village is done that about four hundred fifty residential units and then we have kind of to work out to be a retail about the new product at market basket in there scored that for to restore it in there and then not be the case too is actually under way right now that's all that's the target market ones don't water bar all told maybe LL bean right on a lake so we we've that's happening as we speak another three hundred and fifty units of residential luxury apartments in the mass General Hospital that's actually under construction you can see it on exit one off of I ninety three that's actually under construction right now as you're describing it my producer actually standing next to me and she's looking at me like are you kidding me like that and then some I mean there are so many rational stores you are welcome to where we're really excited about it and also you've got a fairly new market in Portsmouth New Hampshire to run we do yeah we have a new your target market contacted Portsmouth New Hampshire right on market square and we were in the middle of two new restaurant construction projects as well that word that kind of got frozen in the middle is pandemic I want one I know one of them is that the new report property that's the token Siegel in the report I which we show you know what where we started construction back up last Monday the eighteenth are they yeah exactly on the eighteenth to amass let us start back up and and we're going pretty strong in that appointment as well so that's the target C. grill and then we have Toscana Italian chophouse in wine bar in downtown Portsmouth next door to the target market so we had a lot of stuff going on in the middle of this interruption doing well and here I thought I was well aware of all of your projects showing you just from three or four of them out that I wasn't even aware of but do me a favor with the of the Newburyport location how far along as that physically you know what I think we're going to start training there in about five to six weeks so we believe that middle of July we're hoping we're hoping to get the really working hard to get this thing back on track middle of July we get we get that thing open and it's good three to four hours of you know I know you you spent a lot of time in your record yeah over your life and you're gonna you're not gonna believe it I mean the restaurant doesn't look anything like the previous job I was there I mean it's wide open all glass in the back the patio is all white post and beam timber active overlooking the marina no it's it's right it's right on the mighty Merrimack for the sake of those listening it was what I forget the name of the restaurant there was a blackout the blacked out which Joe is Joe we are a great guy yeah another great restaurants or he's got a restaurant right right now on the I think it's Merrimack street right on the main street there are no reports new report five request documents so over the next two weeks or so Joe promise to Jenny and I come in with the cameras and do a tour of the new place on the on the Merrimack in Newbury port you could come any day or night anytime you want Lara we got a house is your house we got to set that up before we go to break actually you know how you were standing there like amazed at all the things that are going on a Tuscan village let me just say this he also built a lake no it's an entire lane in the middle of this small this Tuscan village up there in Salem New Hampshire I gotta tell you folks you know not everybody sheltered in place just take a drive you know everybody wants to get out of the house take a drive with the family go up there and just kind of drive around Tuscan village in Salem New Hampshire one three there you go right off the highway as it happens I'm gonna take another break but on the other side I want to spend a few more minutes talking about what's going on now in terms of curbside pick up or take out any of your property so we'll continue the conversation with Joe Farrell Tuscan kitchen out right after the break and then.

Stevenson, lived with his wife sandy in the law for a period starting in nineteen sixty one and then dropped out of sight nineteen seventies never to be heard from again until the jazz lov project discovered these tapes. Research and word of mouth Stevenson was finally located in two thousand three selling wind chimes at a roadside stand in northern California. Careered income very often to eight twenty one six, but when he did come he settled him for some long jam sessions. Players used to the limitations of recording sessions of commercial club. It was an incredible luxury just to be able to go on at this kind of uninterrupted communicate. That was one of the attractions of reflects. Twenty seven minutes into it Korea. And the other players are still going. So time could stand still as for this long jam session on one. We don't even really know how long it did go on gene Smith's tape.
