"Just looking at a program tonight called Celebrating America on It's gonna be hosted by Tom Hanks. And it's going to be And a 30. On Listen, there's ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and Yeah. And NBC really? But no mention of Fox s O. I guess Fox being the they opted out of the only right wing or sort of to the right. News platform is I don't know if they weren't invited or what. But Tom Hanks is gonna host it and He's had quite a year had been through well actually last year. Tested positive for covert 19. And some of the other people involved. Lady Gaga, I think is doing the national anthem. She's gonna be at the Super Bowl or the big game. There's a ton of other performances as well. So that's awesome. Garth Brooks is going to be singing some music. You know, Tim McGraw Country people tend to lean right, they Dios then. Garth did not perform, was invited to and didn't perform at Donald Trump's inauguration. And he said he was trying to, but he couldn't make it. But yet he's gonna be there for Joe Biden and I wonder if that's gonna hurt his career a little bit because I could say people that are in the country. Are generally more To the right. They lean, right and You might not like the fact that Guard snubbed the Trump, but he's jumping right in here with Biden. They've gone and Clemens and Justin Timberlake Garth Brooks, the new radicals, Tim McGraw on Tyler Hubbard. And Katy Perry are all some of the performers that are going to be out there today. And, of course, then there's the question of Who else is gonna be there? And what else is going to happen? You just gotta wonder if this is going to go as all planned or is there going to be some Some anti Biden activity taking place. But it's going to be a very interesting Inauguration anyway because the covert 19 You're not doing the parade, which they usually do from the Capitol to the White House. After he has been inaugurated. They're not gonna have a crowd there, but they're gonna have 200,000 flags placed on the National mall. On the National mall is that area of Breasts that runs from the capital. Through the Washington Monument and down to the Lincoln Memorial that they've got about 200,000 flags that have been placed on the mall for the inauguration in place of the attendees. Um And it's gonna be called the field of flags and Um, Anyway, he is. The display was first set, apparently on by Sunday. But it runs from well Third Street to 13th Street and in Washington on the mall and its flags representing all US states and territories, as well as Symbolic sponsorships through charities and Um In September. They had 20,000 American flags replaced on them all to honor the more than 200,000 citizens who had died during the covert 19 pandemic. And of course, they've continued to die. There's no question about that. What It's gonna be quite a day up in Washington, D C and it'll be interesting to know. See if there's any pro testing or what else is going to be going on there? But they've got thousands of troops on hand to try toe. Maintain some kind of order should be an interesting day. And as you heard on the news, Jack from Gordon Bird today Lot of pardons. Lot of party. Oh, yeah. How many were there? Total leading 73? Yeah, something like that and didn't get to some that some had wanted, but Joe exotic. Joe Exotic Tiger King Tiger King. "Tiger King you're going to like what's on Discovery Channel and I love Discovery. It's Ah, it's a show is going to tell us how the Tiger King became the tiger king. What happened to Joe Exotica in the beginning of years of early life is going to be in depth interviews, but even more impressively, the guy I'm getting Ray bring in Hey, was a police art officer at just 20 years old. Through that 80 f DEA, FBI, even secret Service. Hey, worked with undercover and before I go any further on his success. I want to bring him in right now. Derek, how are you? Hey, thanks for having me appreciate it, and I want to make sure it's Derek Love Oscar, right? Sounds good to me. Okay. Call you Derek. Listen, man, I want to talk about this show because I'm when the first ones that got sucked into this tiger King on Netflix. What? It was just what a compelling show you have a show tonight. It's on Discovery Channel watching, but I want to talk about your credentials of 1st 20 years old. You get hired on as a police officer. Then you become a sergeant. You're later assigned to special investigations. You work for the F D, a FBI secret service. There's credentials on and on and on on on even a best selling author. You write this book. The book is called the Undercover Edge. You publish it in 2018 and then bam. Within five days, it's selling out on and bookstores and on Amazon. Is there anything that you ever failed in life, man? A lot of bills a lot of fails, and I actually On someone who embraced failures because faces failures where the lessons are and from those failures. I've learned to push myself more and and try to never make the same mistake twice, but yet listen failures part of life. And if you're not failure, you're not trying. I always Try to push myself beyond what I think I'm capable of. And the only way to really find out what you're capable of to get to a point where you're felling. I've done that many times. And I'm okay with that. I'll continue to do it. Well, Okay, So let's talk about what's happening tonight. Discovery Channel. I love it. They're the programming is second to none. And tonight at 10 P.m. nine Central, You have a show called Joe Exotic before it was King. A snapshot And in this, you tell the story. What made Joe exotic Joe exotic? What happened to him in his childhood? You interview all kinds of people. How did how did this come around? How did this project come around? And what do you think about your experience doing it? It was a great experience, You know? Listen, I don't want to be involved with something that was just capitalizing on the success of the Netflix series. I want to come at it from a different perspective. And, you know, I think from an investigator's point of view, and from what I know our viewers, and I'd like to watch its how the mind works. Why a criminal becomes a criminal, and that's the perspective we took here. Why Joe dot in the way he is so This is kind of a prequel. To the Netflix special. We dive into Joe exotic childhood. His life as a young adult. And how he became the person we know. Today, I tell your king. At one point, there were a bunch of families sitting on the other side of the glass, all pointing at their little babies and the bastard. That's that one's mind at that point, he doesn't have a mullet, and he's not thinking about killing Carol Baskin so and there are people in life l they'll try to point to what changed them. I moved to a different neighborhood. Then I fell in with the wrong crowd and got into drugs. There's always some little apex and little point where life goes the other way. With with Joe Exotic is there like one thing one trigger. You could point you that said, Okay, This is what did it to him. You know, Listen, I'm not a psychologist. But if I had to say for me personally, what I thought was kind of a crossroads where he went wrong way was that is he had a he had a brother, who was really into an apple. They open their store together and Unfortunately, his brother was tragically killed in a drunk driving car accident, and I think that his brother's not only served as like a role model, but also somebody kept Joe on the right path. And as soon as he was no longer there Obviously, the traumatic, you know, Event itself really shook Joe, but also when those future decisions came up after his brother's death, instead of going the right way, he went the long way. And it was just a trickle effect. Where, you know, one bad decision led to three more And I think that was really the moment where Joe lost his way because he lost that role model that he could confide in and look up to Tonight, Joe Exotic Before he was King premieres on investigation, Discovery and such a great channel about second and not again and programming. It's just so compelling, and tonight we're going to be looking at where you are, and it's in depth interviews, even one of his husband's you interview on this law enforcement on and on. It's an end depth. Look at what made Joe exotic Joe exotic in a skin a sub Early days. It really wait, try to take it from a deeper dies. It's Joe exotic from the Netflix special covered really answered the question. How and why he became the way he is today and listen throughout the episode. There's going to be moments where you feel bad for Joe, and there's going to be moments when you're really angry with him, and that's that's intentional week. It's okay to feel bad for someone because of what they experience and it's also okay to feel bad for them. But understand that they're where they should be. Which in this case is in prison, So you know that's that's what we're hoping to achieve here tonight. Well, I can't. I can't wait to watch this. And here's what I'm wondering. When this tiger king came out it was right. It could have been timed better. Derek, listen was right. A cove in 19. Everyone was starved for something to do or watch because we were stuck in our homes and people. Benj, watch this over and over. It was a time It was the topic of our show almost every single day. But with them said he always had accusations that Carol Baskin had killed her first husband. He even went as far to say he fed her to the Tigers. If I've got to think that this special is going to be a huge success, are there already talks in another special where you might be able to look into Carol basket as well? I know there's investigators doing that, in fact, is a special tonight before our special called Tigers. Lies. I don't know the name. I apologize, but it's radar is on right before ours, And it's an investigator that looks into whether or not Carol basket could have been. Responsible for the death of Don Luis and what that means for Joe exotic. So that's something you're into making tonight. Grab some food have. Ah, sit down and tune in for both things were back to back talking with Derek Lava, sir. When you when you watch that show, it's like these can't be real people. Each person is more bizarre and fascinating than than the last one. You talked to give us a couple of people We didn't see maybe on Tiger King that you talked to for this special that are really unique and interesting. Well, you're going to get Ah, I think the biggest one that you're going to hear have is ah phone interview with Joe, exotic ex husband, the one who was actually stood over his bed and put the put the gun in Joe exotic face. He's also in prison right now for murder, and he shed some light on the relationship between him and Joe, but also some of the things that were going on a far polygamy and you know, you know, sex and drugs and I think that you know, the people who visited the do the do did not know about. They did not see from Joe when he came out, put on his whole, you know, show Part of what intrigues me so much about this special is when the Tiger King special the Siri's ended on Netflix it seriously left. Just start for more. Tonight on investigation Discovery. We kind of get that MME Orb because they tried to do a special was mostly zooms and this and that, But tonight there's actually uncovered footage and home movies. Photos that you guys have acquired and that's going to be shown as well. Is that correct? That's correct. It's not going to be just a rehash of the Netflix special. Like I said before, it's the prequel to the Netflix special. So if you enjoyed Tiger King, and you're looking for a little bit more of an in depth perspective of Who Joe is because that's really what we focus on then then this is probably something you should check out. I probably don't want to know the answer to this. They did a pretty good job of hiding any potential animal abuse and the show was that a part of his life, though 100% 1000%, and that's that's why I am part of this is well. This man was responsible for the killing of at least five innocent tigers and himself at court admitted that there were many more and I really hope that when this is all said and done, 10 15 years from now what we remember about this whole Tiger King phenomenon. Is that it was the start off the end of, you know, exploitation and killing of tigers and also that don lose his family get the closure they deserve and find out what happened to their father. If that's what ultimately comes from all of this, you know chaos. And I'm all for it. I hope it's just not for, you know, 15 minutes of fame for Joe and Carol. No,

No,

In the episode notes breaking the owner of the greater winwood animal ark. Joseph Maldonado passage also known as Joe Exotic was found guilty guilty guilty on all nineteen cows after the verdict was announced. Joe didn't cry or shout. He simply looked down at the desk. In that moment he seemed deeply alone back in Tampa Howard was working at his desk when reporter called him from the courthouse and at the same time. There was this intense relief and a certain I wanted to jump up and do a high five but our domestic cat just isn't very good at doing that. Instead he called Carol at the Sanctuary Howie and Susan. I think and I had written up a press release in expectation that that would be the case. We didn't write up one four if he if he won. Because I'd probably go into hiding at that point of that had been the case. Carol barely had time to process the news she high tailed it back to the office and recorded her statement. Carol spoke to the camera in a pink Leopard print shirt. It had been nearly nine years since her first video. About Joe's Cub petting operation. Am grateful that justice was served and Joe Schraivogel. Maldonado passage hopefully will serve time in prison and no longer present a threat either to me or to his former big cats. Well media attention regarding. This trial has primarily focused on the murder for hire charges. There is a much larger significance to the wildlife charges afterward. She and Howard took a moment to honor the occasion and as is our practice whenever we have a big celebration like that he gets those little tiny bottles of champagne. It's like two glasses a bottle. He'll get one of those and Round of free and we'll have pre and crackers champagne to celebrate our our win. So so how did you feel when you when you heard the news of this thing? You've been fighting for her years really. I mean for many years against your hundred filing field to know that you would most likely be locked up for a long time. Maybe it's because they haven't had the sentencing yet but I just don't feel like it's completely done so I don't feel like I have that complete sense of relief yet. It's absolutely a fear that he will find some way to finagle his way out of this. He has been successful in evading responsibility for his actions all these years. So it's hard to imagine that it's finally come to a close to the people who lived in work with Joe at the zoo. Have mostly dispersed. Rick Kirkum the reality TV producer. Whose House burned down now lives in a small fishing town in Norway. He moved there in part to get as far away from Joe in anything associated with him as he could. Batman has hurt so many people and hurt so many animals I mean. He's destroys lives on and mine was one of them for the time being. He deserves anything anything he gets. He never walks out of prison. Working for Joe took a serious toll on his mental health. Damn I took me a while to dry out after I got out of that zoo because I was just drinking. Drink fucking gallon a room night just to forget what I had gone through. I check my and seven looney tunes men for two weeks because I thought I was going to be suicidal. Rick says he still suffering from? Ptsd he can't bring himself to watch any of the youtube videos. He made their forty years. Man Journalist I've interviewed serial killers. I'm interviewed murderers. I've interviewed a guy. Cut his own mother's head off and put it in our frigerator. I've never known anyone more evil and their heart and then Joe I if I take nothing else from my one year experience of living in a zoo with Joe. Exotic it is that is survived. Joe Exotic Joe Denies of Rick Kirkum story getting an argument with Rick over the film rights or changing the locks to the studio or getting someone to start the fire. Joe Insists that he's the most honest person you'll ever meet. There's nothing hidden behind this face. He wants told me and people like me for that but over the years. I've spoken to more than seventy people who knew Joe from them. I learned just how many lies Joe is told me when I first met him. He said he was dying of Bone Marrow. Cancer he wasn't. He lied to me about. Why Carol sued him for a million dollars. She said it was all over that one bunny photo and I confirmed it wasn't Carol Baskin or anyone related to her. Who Hacked Joe's computers that time it was marijuana themed youtuber named Nat. Go many of Joe's former friends and employees were still trying to make sense of it. How Joe Shrive Vogel? The animal lover became Joe Exotic the deceitful tiger killer obsessed with destroying Carol Baskin. His heart was in the right place when he first started this and everything but the money started getting till I'm the fame being popular and famous got to him. I will always contend that Joe is not an Evil Person. I honestly in my own heart. Can't even say a bad person. He's sick absolutely there are narcissistic traits. Are absolutely out. Actually look at People's like Jesus Christ I feel like I'm walking around and North Korea Images Joe Everywhere. You know what I mean on that zoo property that twelve acres and show was God and his head it was his world and he created that world and whatever. He wanted you to believe or you do. That's what you did. You're live within the zoo. You know you're working there all day long the cage. That's what everybody pretty much called. It was the case. The Hobart that whole sixteen acres was a cage. After Jo's arrest I went back to the GW zoo. It been nearly years since the wild week I spent with Joe there. I wanted to see what it was like now. It was a chilly. Winter Day. The sign at the entrance gates still said the zoo. But Jeff Lowe is in charge now. The Tiger Breeding Carol had been working to stop a still very much on display. There's a big white banner on the fence facing the main road. It reads the Tigers. The parking lot still smell like cat piss this area all Jones Arctic merchandise. That's all gone. I went there with the producer Rachel Hubbard. We walked into the gift shop were greeted by a woman with a brush cut hairdo. She founded us. Help you hi. We're here to the zoo and talk with Jeff. It's not gonNA happen other than than Jeff. No you can walk around like a normal zoo. That's interesting it was eerie. There's no way I mean there's not one visitor. There's not one in play. It's it's a ghost town. I think right here. They used to be a big stage area with. I don't see it. I Guess Jeff doesn't have any need for a stage as I walked around. I noticed the alligator the chimp the HYENA. They were all gone. It's just squirrels pigeons random animals. That could probably just be low for you. It'd be fine. I don't know why there are schools here. We Stroll Down Tiger Alley. Okay so what? What was our count at thirty six? Thirty seven twenty nine so we could reach you. I tried to make a count of how many cats were left when I find that out again. Lauren Jeff's wife walked quickly toward us. Her bright red hair pulled back in a ponytail. She demanded Rachel. Turn off our microphones. Break anything we're just looking around and try and see how things change I've been told otherwise. Hurt are asking for Jeff and for other things as well known so. Go ahead and put that away. Threes or good guys. We put away our recording equipment and left Jeff. Low is announced. He has plans to close the zoo and move everything. A few our south right down the road from the world's largest casino. If that happens there will be nothing left of the Kingdom. Joe Exotic built.

"You might have noticed at this point that we are no longer in the Somerville Media Center those of you who are joining us for the livestream. We are in fact located in our various homes yen. It's it's been wild months guys. Holy Shit Oh yeah. The march madness came in like a lion and went out looking like VICI- compared to this pandemic like who cares about imagine dragons when you know when we'll never be able to go out to a bar or to a movie theater ever again seemingly. Yeah it's it's more like imagine party or you'll die or you may very well made by like suddenly within the three weeks right. Yeah no I'm an asthmatic. I'm like a vaping asthmatic. Like I'm I'm fucked all sorts of different ways. So you know it's not good. It's not good studies were inside. We are locked down. We are quarantined. I am in my dining room living room situation and My son you're in your in your bedroom right name in their own. My bedroom and in the bedroom the master bedroom that I share with my partner. Of course we don't do the John. Hodgman separate beds thing. Actually I would definitely want a separate bed for me Mike done because you fucking snore like a motherfucker and lives a Goddamn saying i. Don't I don't know how you do it? Well I I was GonNa get the C. Pap machine but then the pandemic happened. So let's see I can put it on hold until they're going to need those machines. They need those so you just get to sound like snuffle up against for a couple months. Hopefully that's the worst thing that happens. Hopefully it's about the worst thing guys it's fucked like I is really fucked out there and it's kind of weird doing a podcast about Bad Art but I also feel like I don't feel bad about it in any way I feel like it is unnecessary distraction and unnecessary outlet for all the confusing feelings and weird feelings and depression anxiety. Cycling that is You know a perpetual accompaniment to the daily encroaching dread coming from from all directions and so speaking of Distractions convoluted ridiculous distractions There has been no more iconic media to knit together a broken America right now. Then it's fucking show. Oh Yes lex called tiger king that I imagine. If you're a true honest oil stop you guys have already seen it. You know what we're talking right. I mean come on. It's it's required viewing for this entire quarantine. If you haven't seen it you must before going back out into the world. Whenever that happens right I have A. You're going to have plenty of time. Stop he's plenty of time. It does feel like the perfect companion to this situation and the weird encapsulation of the political situation in America Today. For for whatever reason you know. Joe Exotic and Carol Baskin are just that is there the avatars of a left right politics trump and Hillary Clinton right there? You go really really and often the coroner's like Vermin Supreme Looking Tony Brigade cancel. It gets really weird so for those of you. Who for some reason have not seen this Basically this Docu series on Netflix. A deep weird and wild and honestly you know often disturbing often hilarious Ride into you know polygamist. Tiger colts basically is basically what it is and rivalries within various Colts and some of them are just call two personalities and others of them are colts in the real literal sense that you know a guys calling himself. Baga von speaking of which country finally stat to the Juan be confused with the Bug von and like similar sorts of situations of just Would seems like a a an idyllic and and just in fun and freeing situation just slowly exposed as A horrible tangled web of murder of of evil were that like sex crying exposes and more like exposes a more like a deeper level of you know a what that means for America. You know what I mean the the CD A greater story about America. That does about the protagonists. We've already decided the Carol Baskin Is Hillary Clinton and Jones Atticus Donald Trump. Joe Exotic did just ask Donald Trump for a pardon just made him. I get it. He might get it. He might be better for it. Maybe let him out. Yeah that's a big question for anyone who's seen the film is You know for everything that happened to you. Do you think Joe. Dodig deserves to go to prison for twenty two years right. Listen the thing is is that he did a bad man who did some very bad things and all the other people in this in this universe are also pretty bad people who did some pretty terrible things but there's also some truly delightful things that happen over the course of the Tiger King Docu series delightful moments like Joe Exotic giving a eulogy at his His husband's actually that his husband. I have is justice for Travis. I feel tariffs on delightful. I'm not talking about him dying. I'm talking about when he commented at the looking funeral. How how much? He's going to Miss Travis his now. Deceased husband you know putting his balls in his mouth but isn't that a little too like even though even for his Kenny powers is that whole segment of the movie is when he even does the full dressed as a priest singing fucking be thinking a song at the funeral that literally. Something had happened in eastbound and down but even even for his silly and Wacky as that is like. It's also super sad because travis was his meth slave. Yeah wasn't even really gay and his mom. Is there zonked out on heroin or whatever like funeral? It's it's it's a bad it's a bad scene and here's A. B. and Mike Dunn have not hung out in person for a few weeks so we haven't had a chance to like we've been like twenty persons zoom calls trying to play like you know Internet games simultaneously and yelling at each other about that so we haven't had had time to fully digest the shit at discuss it in person but the thing is is that it would take a very long time and I'm just going to say that it's very dark and what I just labeled as delightful is because I'm feeling very dark is exactly the right time. It's such a weird weird lack pills. It is some black pills. Shit Dude. The worst things that could happen are happening. And it's happening with US guys. But but here's the thing so that's why we have to you know minus for all it's worth and as your would do justice. Joe would do exactly in his honor. Is We found out that? Joe Exotic Joe Maldonado spy Vogel is that it That he recorded and released several. I think sixteen that we have today a sixteen music videos That he commissioned and I say commission because he did have another artist to other artists record all of the music so he he milli. Vanilli lead this shit. He like Milli Vanilli like crass with Chester Cheetah and a meth pipe. This shit tell me if I'm mistaken. I watched a few of these videos before we started just to get a taste. Are there songs where you said there was two different musicians so he uses two different other? Men's voices yes zone right. Are there songs where both of those guys sitting on the same song? No so one of the music videos. I hear I heard two different. Men's voices okay. So that's the thing so I think that the singer is Only one of them that things most of them so okay. So the musicians are Vince Johnson. And Danny Clinton and they're in a bans That is I think it's Clinton brothers band. And so I believe that Danny Clinton as a singer and he's responsible for most vocals but there is at least one or two songs that Joe Exotic does kind of like weirdly like Croak. Warble out some some really weird bad shit cause him so yes so again like a little stuff. Yeah he's got a little teeny bits here and there but he didn't compose any of the music. He didn't record like the main vocals or any of the guitar. He poses with guitar. He you know Panta minds a single cord for like pretty much all of the videos And and they're completely fucked so what I will say is that he inspired the song so he was working with these Duo and saying okay. I want a song about how Carol Baskin of big cat. Rescue is a bitch and murdered her husband and they were like okay and they estimate he must've wrote allows lyrics directly right like it does sound like his voice. It sounds like his voice like author's voice might. Yeah so it's it is a weird weird weird.

"His hand and I knew he just shot cuddles I heard it and he comes up to the hill and goes if I knew it was going to be this easy. I just easy to just walk up to the cage. I was just going to kill them all. So Eric. How he ended a turning against What's his face. Joe Exotic filmmakers followed Eric Cow. We as he left the zoom and began working as a cook at an Oklahoma restaurant. He has yet to comment publicly on the NETFLIX series. So that statement was actually from the DOCU series. What I just read so Eric. Hasn't actually commented on you know his portrayal from the show or anything like that now. Let's talk about John. Ranking John rinky worked at the zoo for several years as well up until Jo's arrest and Jeff Low took over the operation nowadays. He's primarily focused on another lifelong passion completely unrelated to animals car racing. John Rinky told Spe- fifty one that he now lives in Texas and Co owns two race tracks while also working as a mechanic. There's what he's shared on lights with David. Spade he goes. I have not talked to Joe since he's been incarcerated. Not because I hate Joe I got love for the Guy I was there for fourteen years. We just built a bond and I knew that if I call them while he was incarcerated he wouldn't shut his mouth. So that is John Rinky on why he hasn't visited Joe Exotic. Why hasn't talked to Joe? All of that. The crazy thing about John Rinky too is that from this whole Fini of after working with these animals. He also divorced his wife of like many many years. So yeah I mean. He's living the life now. Car Racing co-owns you know this these race tracks to race tracks while also working as a mechanic and I mean if the if he's happy then you know we can't judge next less talk about wreck Kirkum. After losing all the footage he planned to use a reality TV series about Joe. An arson fire and the origin of that fire is still unknown. Rick Kurkin moved back to Texas and suffered a heat ascribed to the tagger king filmmakers as a nervous breakdown Rick Kirkman who according to his facebook group now lives Norway and works as a freelance reporter has recently claimed that he has shot footage of Joe. Killing Zoos. Animal prior to the fire. This is a statement to extra TV. Joe Was Surreal. One of a kind figure a very very evil guy at heart also vary loss and I think that is why you almost feel sorry for him in the documentary series at some point. Believe me there is nothing there to feel sorry about. He has very evil guy to the animals and the people that worked for him. Whoo that is a very bold statement but I somewhat agree. I mean at some point I did start to feel sorry for Joe and that is that's other remember like he'd like torture these animals so also like. Oh that I can't feel sorry for him anymore. Let's talk about Joshua dial so he is He's by far my favorite. I think he's everybody's favourite from the series because he was basically the only person that made sense of the whole situation so he was actually Joe Exotics campaign manager when Joe Exotic was trying to run for governor of Oklahoma and Josh Joshua Dial says he has cut all ties with the controversial figure. He's goes I have tried to move on and I have been successful so far. I was given a new life and a second chance when I met my fiance. I have no desire to bring any of that pain into my life. He told oxygen referencing the shooting death of Joseph Maldonado which he witnessed which is like so traumatizing. A witness someone just like die right before you. Joshua dial explained I have. I have a hard time sitting in offices now. I think it's related to how Travis killed himself in the office at the zoo so I really don't know which line of work I like to go in and last but not least let's talk about the final character of Tiger King. The snitch James Garretson. He was the former club. Owner played a major role in Joe's exotic Joe Exotics arrests by acting as a confidential informant for the FBI in a recent interview with Australian radio. Show Carleen Seema's James Garretson said he's faced backlash for his role in Joe. Exotics dimiss as he put it. It comes down to Joe was killing a lot of animals so people can call me whatever they WANNA call me. I feel I did the right thing. If you're an animal lover you're not GonNa call me a snitch. But he did because he. I mean I'm confused how. He didn't get arrested as well because he was very much involved. In the higher for for Kale Plot in with Keira baskin he was involved in all that shady business so to me is kind of crazy that he didn't get charged with anything when he's just as much involved as Joe Exotic so James Garrison. He now lives in South. Florida and operates a Jetski business and that is a wrap on all of the tire CASS. What they're doing now. Where are they you know? What do they think of this show? So that was a lot. Let me know the comments which Tiger King cast member is your favorite. And you guys asking wrap up today's episode here at the GMC entertainment podcast. We covered a lot today. just saying during his lead us by show you know if you were as you guys can do you know what let it's a week old for you guys we still kind of fascinated by there were people who win in this weekend for the first time right now there are like new discoveries made been made all the time P. like new lands being discovered by yeah by explorers in then news came out and I was able to get JetBlue he came in around episode four five I think you have what might be the biggest gangster of a mall well it like in a negative way yeah I know my system the lows do present like a joke like a like an actual gangster like actual game like sterling yes that you often see Joe lake is a gangster well he's just the gangster of goodwill though you know in case of achievement right right where is Jeff close a gangster of destruction and Basil actual Jennings there've been no good yeah well guess what in coach what's this with Justin Turner I was just how does Dodgers slugger Justin Turner planted it that's the best part about all this is this is a video from cameo so far the cameo side we talk about a time where you know mark McGrath with the lead during the break of video positive bro so you can go ask somebody to you know pay somebody to do a video Jeff flow is on I would imagine just the last couple of weeks is putting so fun cameo in Justin Turner paid a hundred and fifty Bucks to have a a Jeff low tiger King video made and when he made the video he broke some news here we go Hey accordion Justin this is Jeff from Iron Man taking show on Netflix thank you for watching your show Christie said you're a big fan and yeah you need a life you just wasted seven hours on ours take care guys we love you Netflix is adding one more episode will be on next week's week yes filling her "But like this is a real logical problem as well as a as a sort of personal issue and it seems like. That's one of the dimensions of conflict between Carol. Baskin and JOE EXOTIC JOE. Exotic never seems to operate on that level. He says it a couple of times right. It's like well. They're someone says there danger. There should be more of them and you don't think that person's saying in good faith in time but Carol Basket. The problem is not that they're necessarily being held in cages. That's bad but that more of them are being bred to be held in cages. Like I am comfortable holding them in cages because I am not breeding them and I'm also comfortable with it because I'm not doing cub petting which create the economic incentive to breed more of them which then we are judging that the lives of these tigers are a net negative of utility for them. It is better for these tigers to have never been bored because their mistreatment represent such vast amount of suffering. That just doesn't feel to me like a good answer to the question right and I don't know what the answer that question is like. The show reminds US multiple times that there are more tigers in captivity in the United States than there are tigers in the wild so it raises the question of okay. Well what is a tiger? And what is the worth of Tiger? And what does that even mean right? And I don't I'm not necessarily just saying this to try to get away from people telling me that I shouldn't eat meat but it that's that's part of it. I'm sure I'm very self interested as we all are in certain ways and I'll pick the arguments that reinforce male lifestyle just like anybody else. I'm sure even if I try not to But but also just this notion of like the idea of what? Once the idea of saving wild animals in their habitats preserving their habitats conserving the natural habitats is relatively simple compared to the problem of what to do with them once they are in captivity which is complicated and tough and and I think that the show does turn on the questions of that but it turns more on the fact that we feel like we have comfortable answers to these questions and we don't know that was my that was one of the big engines of all this and it's it's revealed in this notion of like well. Do you really think that Joe Exotic on some level has this sincere connection with these animals and he's trying to take care of them more than Joe Exotic like the Joe Exotics employees. The tall guy with the blonde hair or the one armed woman they really do seem to sincerely care for these animals and dedicate their lives to them right. And so it's like is is all of that as a net evil would it be better for it to not exist and I think it's hard to say watching the show in the context of the show that it would be better for them never to exist right to for the animals not to be there for the people caring for the animals not to be there but at the same time. That doesn't solve the problem of the evil of like breeding the of the The intentional evil right not the utilitarian evil but the intentional evil of breeding the cubs for the purpose of taking pictures of them and then killing them right. Which is which is like these sort of dark timeline narrative for what doc antle is doing his crib alleged. Crematoria right for for the gas chambers for Lions and Tigers and whatnot. So that's another one of the weird kind ethical axes on which this show is like avoiding seeking a resolution and building tension and building conflicts. I mean what do you think what do you? What do you think should happen to? Tigers? What would you do with the Tigers? Released them into because that one guy one point says yeah the Tigers in a cage. What you wanted to go downtown to the or something seven. Eleven right. Walking down at seven eleven. Of course it's got to be an ally then you can't release into to quote unquote the wild wild meaning the interstate. You know but but like and there isn't enough there isn't enough habitat right way. Y- left in the world for them to go and so like there's there's definitely like I think you have to do some systems thinking I think you have to do some like Marcy and analysis a little bit like the Yes. It is good that it is you know there is a kind of utilitarian. Good that the the Nice animal caretakers can take care of the animals and be nice to them and in so doing sort of self actualized or find useful and kind of What kind of nobly role for them themselves in the world. Those things are good but those things require that there be some tigers already right and so the system that produces the Tigers even even if there is some utilitarian good to be had the system that produces that situation can still be bad even if under the conditions of you know Tiger capitalism right. The there is an opportunity for and noblemen self actualization. You know certain kinds of like dignity being being enacted right and like so. It's it's one of these things that you have to two point two. That's that's difficult to point to because there's not a single bad guy but you have to say like okay this needs to be sort of systemically weeded out and it's not you know it's not something that were very good at As a species we're not sort of wired to to think in that particular way. Yeah that like you know where. Where should they go? Should they be? I don't know Carol Baskin's place seemed a little broke down to me like I'd I'd rather them all be in the like the really Nice Zoo in San Diego. You know where the they have. These many hundreds of acres like re-creations of natural habitat where they can live this kind of westworld simulate grim of of what they're quote unquote natural. Lives would would've been but that again requires a lot of five. Oh One C. Threes and. I'm sure there's a lot of ethical dilemmas. The someone out there was pointing allies issues. That's what that Operation Waltham Right. I mean I'm not GonNa like you know. I'm speculating here. But like my broader point being one of the one of my big takeaways from this I requesting notion of what a zoo is right. I think this whole spectrum of like that crown jewel of animal preservation. Sad Zoo and I've been there. It's awesome I know. She's talking about Matt. Down to the the finite roadside attraction that we have here they all call themselves. Zoos and preserves sanctuaries in the US all of this language but they all meet very very different things and these are problems that have a variety of solutions that can be figured out over long periods of time for sure and a lot of work and I admire people who are able to do it. I do think the show trades and the difficulty of the question at least to an extent but yeah I totally agree that the systematic. It's tricky to juxtapose the systematic evil though with the individual the individual the role of the individual. And what do these individual. What are these individual people supposed to do? Especially IF THEY'RE RANDOM RANDOM PEOPLE I WANNA say random people from Oklahoma as if that makes it easier just not the random people in other places have all the same problems not not not real people speaking of systemic problems and also and also random people from Oklahoma. Here's the story of Tiger Right. The story of Tiger King is about Joe Exotic and what happened to Joe? Exotic is that in the seventies and eighties. You saw the cocaine trade of cocaine coming up from South America United States as a recreational drug. That is really that has been in the states for a long time. But it's really kicking off right and then you have this cheap variants of cocaine called crack which gets really popular in the United States but it has to be imported because it does still involve coca plants from South America and as such the places that have the most access to crack our cities that have lots of trade and ports in particular where they can bring the crack in and this leaves in the United States to this perception that the people who live in those cities have access to the crack. And who also want. The cheaper crack are like morally inferior to the people who live in places where it's harder to get crack or where crack isn't as big of a deal right and this has racial coating where it's perceived as a black people problem that they're doing crack when I think in a we it's not necessarily always the case right now there's the case at all and a grand sense but also be. This is a problem that has an economic map. That has that has geographical coincidence to it right. Like the coasts have more access to the ocean and they have more access to trade. And so then. What happens in the two? Thousands is you have these chemical alternatives. These synthetic like like with the case of all food products heading from the nineties into two thousands people found cheaper ways to use synthetics to create the same sensation. So for example you don't get chocolate raisin that's anymore you get chocolate resonance which have imitation chocolate made from synthetic chemicals. Same thing happened with crack and it's called math and you can make it anywhere and there's a great show about this breaking bad and some of you may have seen but but the introduction of math in particular though this also I think can be said to be. True of opioids to an extent really broke down a lot of the least perceived racial barriers in communities with drug abuse problems by by flattening the map geographically and making rural areas have just as much access if not more to these drugs as the urban areas with big ports. Because you don't have to import it anymore. I mean they still did but you didn't have to. And so I think one of the things that tiger king and so as mentioned kind of briefly in one of the episodes a whole lot of the people on this are on Meth the entire time. Right and have very serious. Method is problems and and I think that One of the things that you have to remember about drug abuse and psychoactive drug abuse. Is that when it changes the incentives? And when when when when you take a substance that changes the reward responses in your brain you are taking a substance that changes who you are as a person and what your personality is and because over time in particular it will habituate you into changing your values because it will condition you to associate different sorts of things with reward and punishment. This is very very well. Documented with Opioids and. Opiates and I think too with method seems at the very least anecdote observable and so it's very easy to see to see people who are like. Wow they really seem to disregard social bonds right. Oh Man. These people seem to have like no traditional sort of sympathy for people that they're supposedly hypothetically like married to or like living with or like taking care of. They seem to have no regard for safety. Why are they making these decisions? You have to remember that a lot of them are on meth and addicted to it and again. I'm not saying that. This is the root cause of all of life's problems but but joe exotic in particular seems to be struggling with the loss of this sense of like of a home right this idea. That he's kind of libertarian. Running for governor. Yes a publicity stunt but it but he also sort of you know hates the coastal elites and. He's fairly he's I think he's at this point overtly trumpy and in real life right and what this is about..

"Gotta ask you. Because I've heard you mention it probably three interviews now so if you had a manager who would it be and why would it be? Joe Exotic Joe's it would be and I'm working on. I'm working on that. I heard your you say in that interview that you know somebody knows your exotic and you're right. I know somebody that knows. Somebody always knows somebody who knows somebody. Amen? Are you aware those a lot of things I mean? There's a lot of things can do. I think that's a knockouts in cash exclusive zinke. Dice is GonNa Break Joe Exotic out of prison just yet when I need a manager when and if I need a man but yeah he would be the one he would be the one though because like in the NWEA group man that was like the number one comment that everyone kept saying they're like is that Joe Exotic and he needs to have joe exotic firs her. I'm like well. I know you saw that tweet from our friends over at breaking down the ring it ask about doing. I said I'm sure he's probably got plenty to say. Exotic man was great. So we're kind of catching fire with Nwea power and all that stuff. I was listening to you. Can you tell us a little bit about how you got to? Nwea like how that came about. Funny Story Yeah. I was working championship wrestling from Hollywood for on and off for three years. It never cut a promo and stood up there early one day. Hey once you get on the mic and I said all right I said six words and walked around the corner billy Corgan Dave Ghana. And he's like I. Would you like to work for me and said I love that and then so I- Debussy isn't do and It's taken over into a in the world ever since so. I think it was fate that brought us together that they haven't I think now that started to realize Jim they found in Atlanta Dyson I knew exactly what I was doing around getting their what question I have is that day park. Has He's apart. Nwea power issues also of championship wrestling from Hollywood. Unfortunately it's kind of what I was alluding to emancipate what was it like work to a day Marquez. In have you guys you know kind of that whatever issues you had it in a way we. We didn't do not see. He came out and yelled at me and now he's posted that now that I'm getting worldwide fame that I'm not a control. I don't Care Dave Marquez. Says I don't like Marcus. The only thing they Marquez has that I want is the power to book a match between Mia Dave Marquez. About that but I will defend against David Marquez Television Amen. You gotta give them w where you can get them. Oh I have an idea and I. I'm going to be fighting champion. I might just set up seven. Victors in a row episode of power. Whenever we get back. Because I'm I'm staying in shape. I'm a fighting champion all defendants seven times in a row one night and then beat nick all the next night so you already had outlandish claims outlandish. Things of facts is facts are not true. I'm dig overly world of professional wrestling. La- everybody's spot. Everybody should be afraid everybody because yes guess who's got eyes on him now guests hottest sensation. Meet me and I ain't got no plan to slow down so you never know where you're GonNa Nikki. Hey you'll have the Detroit area man you gotTa let us know. I'm like the wind. Maybe I'm everywhere. Hey that's the way to be something that I specifically wanted to ask you about. You know I heard you mention a little bit about your want to work with Special Olympics and Kids with disabilities and things of that nature. tell me about where that comes from. That's like a. That's a a a big one for me. Personally I work with kids with disabilities. I actually run an exercise group for kids with disabilities here in Michigan. It's cool to hear that INFO on somebody else's well so I'd love to hear you know where that comes from for you. Does it have any special meaning to you or like what brings at well? It started. I've worked in the field for thirteen years now It started in elementary school. I did lunchtime buddies. No Mentor School. I would think it was once or twice a month with the Special Ed. Class just have watched them and then Ghana Fell INTO FROM. There was always interested. In as soon as I started eighteen started working in the field I did in home. Care and day programs were travel agency. traveled with adults with developmental disabilities. Sees Me I work in high school setting Were the dolts children And I wouldn't change the world could be as I hate everybody else. And those are the most amazing people on this planet and I would if I wasn't doing this. That's exactly what I'd be doing so Amen I love that because no one thing. I learned out of the kids. I've gotten work with because I mean I've worked with kids with everything from down syndrome asperger's and everything in between and it's lightning people just automatically assume that because it's got disabilities or whatever the case might be with that particular person that they're just stupid and it's like they know that you think that that you think absolutely and they'll move that's there. Sometimes I feel like the kids with disabilities or SMARTER THAN HALF. Human League got half the humans got no problems because the way that they can play them and make you look stupid at all. I've seen it all believe me every thirteen. Let me put it to you this way. Thirteen years in. I'm sure there's a million people you could probably back me up on this no two days wherever the same okay. So now we've officially got for or Stephenson's. We usually go into a lack of room and all that kind of stuff. We're going to a first. You'll know where I'm going to go with this one. So okay what's what's the craziest thing or I should say. What's the funniest thing that you What is the funniest thing you've experienced as far as just like your everyday dealings with them because for me? The funniest thing that I ever had happened was one of my co workers who I couldn't go looking good looking lady see. I had the sister and the brother was with her and over in this kid walks up grabs a whole handful and then the smile on his ass off as soon as everybody was. Kyle you can't let I said Dude. She's laughing and it's happening to her. How do you want me? Not Man Nine was I worked with my brother in work in this one. Specific Charlie was two on one and we went to this this. This is the first one that comes to mind is of Malian that I can tell but We went to this big gathering for Christmas and it was like all of the schools in the area. We all take a bus at Santa's there you need those big on nights meal and you sit down and they serve you this and does her horns. People dressed up and dancing and We're feeding our guy that were with than all of a sudden. These stands up at a nowhere in project. I'm talking about this bar over everyone and like this event and it's like you and you don't know what to do so we just start laughing -cause easy going everywhere. We're like new Heathrow WTN's little girl's hair in front of us and we talk and we left. We just got in the work vehicle at our own work nickel for him and we left. We ruined Christmas party and just left. We left the bar we left. We left a man. You guys made it outlandish over there. I think I think that was a Tuesday. That's awesome dude so with NWEA All tapings and stuff like that What's it like for you guys to be taping Like doing your shows and TV studio versus some of the place. You'll go out on the indies. Like I know. There's such a a different vibe there with it. Being like the studio crowd does that. Is it any different for you doing the NWEA tapings versus? Maybe like a normal indie show. Will they ask you going to be? Yes it's a little different At the same time the answer is no Yeah there's a little more pressure to there and I know it's a bigger stage and that always excites me But championship wrestling from Hollywood. Once again I got Sigma Fanny Pack Costume Dave Marquez. Over there and whole crew Prepared me for that It's it's basically ran the same exact way so Now but firm Asher may be made no no really so obviously since. We're all in quarantine. There's not a whole lot for a lot of people to be doing when I was sitting on social media last night. I saw that you saw that they've Aws now come out with their version of TV championship. What I did. What are your thoughts on that? And how do you feel about trying to become Not only the must see TV. Tv Champ all over well let me put it this way. There's only one I am the champion of television. And there's only one and whoever whatever Offer from any other company Wiz I to outshine them every single time. So I mean we. We can defend titles if you want to put up against. But I'm telling you right now there is nobody like Gallon. Ezekie go and create them. You can go pick them from the NFL. You can go get the Olympics. You can breed them. That can be your friend but still going to outshine everybody on everybody. No one stands a chance. No one wants to gain the Michael me okay. Anyone wants to gathering okay. Nobody I'm literally not afraid of anybody not ashamed. Everyone should hold on their spots. It's me that's coming for their spots like no center earlier so go ahead TV titled TNT titled Whatever. Whatever I lo whatever I'll go wherever wherever so you mentioned so you mentioned. Nfl You mentioned other sports. So our show covers. Emma May as well this is the outlander won a fan of the combat sports like MMA boxing all that Kinda stuff and if so who do you like watch. Once upon a time I used to love and when chuck widow is on top of the game then he fell off quick like in then I got over so he kinda ruined it for me. He was from the same area where I live in California. So we're just watching that just kinda crush my hopes to J. It's fake next what I told you his fall from grace. I was there in Atlanta Dude and I had the guy that was sitting in the row in front of me. Hi Devon there's no Belfry to ring bitch Usually when I say I'm there Devon's got a bill in the studio. He'll ring so that's where that comes from but man. It was funny that night. When he fought Rashad Evans Man Or your fault then dudes. That's what I'm out of my out. Fuck I went there for my sixteen I can tell you etc is going to knock him out with an extra shot. Had to go ruin it nip. I think I was watching. "Car off. The air is unbelievably clean because of the rain. And so many fewer people on the road so would say get out for a little spin and just noticed that you can see like Catalina from Johal and drive. It's amazing Brigham. Either ed by the way we should just plug the fact that our own Ben wides has a new album. Yes he does yes he does. We've been listening to the test pressings of the vinyl this week. It sounds fantastic. He is on camp yes. I already ordered my vinyl eagerly awaits arrival. Aw Thank you. It sounds great. It really sounds great. Yeah it's it's yet very very. I mean the one song that I that I heard that he posted you know with the started sharing rooms so so impressive so good. Yeah he's great US great What else are you listening to reading watching? Did you watch Tiger King? I am two episodes in it. I don't think I can do it. It's so I know it's it's tough when it's it's such a great cultural moment but we've been watching it every time we're like. This is such a bummer. I can't I I don't need a thing to tell me that humans are garbage right now. I need the opposite Also I mean like if I'm if I'm rooting against poly-amorous gay couple sums up got representation in terms of what he is bringing his only gets worse. I can process things spoiler alert in episode two of of hymns saying to the young the big tall guy with the big hands who comes in like are you straight. Yeah I'm straight well when you're watching porn you look at the Dick's of that means you're not completely straight and like seducing him that way but then also for sure with drugs but we don't yeah. I don't know if we ever get fully into that. We do it. He's been to that in a way that they're very dark and actually very very sad boy. Okay I don't I don't think I can do it. It's interesting but I don't think I can. Yeah we're just trying to plow through it I mean there is also very haunting for me because the main guy the main tiger King Joe Exotic Joe Exotic a lot of people that are reaching out to me because I had this cousin who When I moved to La lived here and he was like pictured Joe Exotic with like a like if possible like less Less attractive kind of less put together.
