"Didn't matter for the game but the point blank cetera. You can't it's not that easy first. base is not. he is easier to than shortstop. It's incredibly hard. It's but it's not as easy as people think it is in the point to being. It's just so important Hitter it's a guy on bass or not a guy on bass. I guess everything's like that. But it's it's it's important in raviol- divers we know. He has some throwing shoes. And i don't know if anybody from boston. Listen to this podcast. But if they are probably be cancelled but zander. Bogart's is not the field of everything. He is Metrics do not like him he just he. He's not doesn't have the range and he gets occasionally laxed on some throws. I need a first baseman. If you're confident that if you just get anywhere in the vicinity he's gonna pick it. I think it makes for better left side of the infielder. And i don't know i think they're going to give tribe and opportunity. I'm not gonna say it's it's gonna be he's gonna be fine. We don't know. Communist ramsey made the change but dwight evans couldn't to to go way way back in red sox lower it took star. Lord i think ninety five minutes in that movie to learn how to play first base. And we don't. I don't think we even actually saw him play defense in it after that point. So you know it's not the easiest thing in the world have louis. He'll lewis he'll the yankees. Here's here's the oppressive big for me. First yankee with six shutout innings in an mlb debut in twenty nine years similar telo. There's a blast from past name for me with the last to do it. He's also the first yankees pitcher since. Slow joe doyle in one thousand nine hundred six to allow zero runs in his first. Two major league starts. So are you a believer in louisville. It's on number scouting in didn't did happen to catch some of the some of the past couple of outings. He's always miss bats but he's also missed the strike zone a ton he usually keeps the ball on the yard. So if he if they can get to the majors in. It's not sanchez anymore. Hook shot. I mean being on the on the i l. there i think brantley and take a show Mispronouncing in all. Gosh she oak Yoga trial gosh yoga. If they're calming him down and using the right repertoire in the right mix in keeping the walks in cecchi. Certainly has the stuff to succeed. If i was if i was writing up his profile. It'd be one he'd my. I save it for ten guys because you can't use everybody. He's the one skill away guy that once getaways better control twenty-three watson thirty seven innings for scranton welfare before he came up but he sorry twenty nine innings but he had thirty seven strikeouts so figure out a way to throw strikes and i think we have something definitely a walker and an extreme fly ball pitcher which is something. That scares me yankee stadium. You might think. Why are we talking about louis. He'll when he got the motive the miners after his last start. Well that was a procedural move they can actually call him back up for his next start during that series against the white sox when they're back in chicago i don't think we've seen the last of him high risk our award. I'm not reading any. Espn legs yet. Just just not swan. Timeout fly balls and yankee stadium You for andrew. Heaney is having a little bit of issues in that regard. Yeah i saw the four homer game that was. I was kind of amazed that that was the record for a pitcher. And a yankee debut for home runs because who was the do it on sunday night baseball against the red sex. You should totally know this rat halls. He made a guy like that. He pitched the sunday night baseball game. And he gave up three homers a role. I couldn't believe that he wasn't the one that had that record for what it's worth. The internet was invented for me. I don't remember things very well So i i'm not only both apparently i'll go to. I don't go to movies anymore. But i mean i just people will talk about a movie. I don't remember that. I just i don't i just don't remember things very well It's why it's why didn't become an actor next one. I was moving into sadly rushmere. Gimme a creek as to whether his promotion aaa matters what he will he play in the majors this season. I think he might another. I think that i think catcher. You want as many bullets. You can get these mean i know that the whole saving money etc but i think you want his money but we might. I think we might see richmond in in the majors of in september keeping in mind. Not only are there. No waiver trades this month. There's no roster expansion next month but it doesn't mean. I don't think we won't see rush. Men get his feet wet. I think we might. I think it'll be all performance based they have no incentive to call up this year. But i do think they intend to have them be the catcher next year. We'll see service. Time will also be a question. We'll we'll find out todd. So now that i've made you just exhaust yourself with a whole bunch of analysis here so i shall i. Shall i challenge you.

"Postgame show. We're live now from Massachusetts and the frankly I Selina. Overtime on Air Force beats Bentley 43 With Dave. Taller. I'm J. Richie Frank's territory. Joins us right now, Frank. Frank. I know they all feel good. But that one had to really feel good. That was your first win since March. Do you realize that? Yeah. J idea. Thanks for reminding me. And yeah, that was a good way. The Theo phrase it, um Um You know she's been it's been a tough It's been a tough goal. Um she's been a tough goal, like first and foremost like there's more relief and joy, you know, like like we want you want You want to get that one under your belt. And we want to get some traction on and you know there. There's like, you know we talk about there's no substitute for winning. I mean, like you got to find a way to get a W and even losing in the three on three and just like that's not going to cut the monster. There's no substitute for winning. We had to find a way. To get away and I win. I like and I won't say a couple of things about about our group like we got a young fan group, and that's been well documented. We've talked about it. I've talked about it and it is what it is. But I mean, this young thin group has had. We've played 11 games. Nine of those 11 have been on the road like I don't care even for for older, seasoned teams if you're playing If you're playing nine of 11, that's a tough goal. Everybody's better at home, and so like we've we've had. You know, a monument is challenge. We've honored all of our road commitments to our conference. Uh, to the to our conference affiliates. Theophilus haven't honored their commitments to us. And as a result, we've had the plane inordinate amount of games on the road. Um, uh, I thank our administration for supporting us. It's been it's been tough, and now I want to get into into this game a little bit. And you talk about a young team that hasn't had a lot of success when Los Wise How? How? How many teams that you know, we're all in nine and one could be up to the one and within a minute you're down 3 to 2 with 10 minutes left like how many? How many teams are in our situation would fold up. Fold the tent. How would they fold right up and our kids didn't they didn't fold up. They battled back. We found a way to get that next goal posture. Pinsky scores a big goal and and then we get into the three on three and they got some skill. They got some skill. If you were, if you were betting the over under in the you know, just on on athletes, you wouldn't have given us much a chance of a chance, and that And in that in that three on three, but a couple things, Uh Joe Doyle coaches that three on three unit and, uh, they they don't They don't break down like we're pretty organized. Especially defense. Defensively, man on man and all that. And then when we needed them tonight, who? Who is our best player? I like showing and not even any even close. I mean, like, you know, Shelley was a little silly. That's why I told the boys in the locker room right now and No, we we needed. We needed to have that because you know the teams like that are going to get there. Gonna manufacture some offensive When they do, you're going to need a big safe and and we got that from Alex. But no, I feel I'm so happy for the boys. Like I said, it's been a tough It's been a tough road a hole. I mean, nine of 11 games on the road. We've had two home games, nine road games. We come from behind We give up a lead. We go down 3 to 2. We come back, We tie it. We went in dramatic fashion. Willie Rhyme. How about Willie? Look like Cam Neely in those you that aren't old enough to know Cam need nearly Google him and big power forward that once played for the Boston Bruins legend out here. And, uh, And scores of big time goal and then shells you place probably had to look good. Look, we did a bad change in the three on three and and they got into and how what kind of saved was that? They didn't What did he make this A letter? Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no exciting, exciting game. It's too bad that there was more fans. There wasn't fans here to watch it. Hopefully, people are walking watching it on on Flo TV or whatever we do whatever we have a non out there, but Very, very entertaining game chances both ways, and when it was all said and done, it was the good Falcons over the evil felt at least that's what we think, anyway. All right, Congrats, Frank, good job and we'll talk to you later, therefore, said coach Frank's territory, joining us here on the Navy Federal Credit Union postgame show. "Like where you come when when they came out. They were out playing and I walked out to the bench just to watch him and they all stopped and looked at me with their eyes like deer in the headlight going. Who's he gonna take off now? Here's a question for you. Is it easier? At home or easier on the road. As far as as far as the protocols and you feeling comfortable with what everybody's doing. It's easier at home because I have more resource is at home. You know, we have our own testing here. Our physicians air here. We have our hospitals. You know, we have more protocols available to us. I like Russian myself. We've just kind of taken on a roll that when we travel, we try not to rely too much on the visitors. Really? For anything we bring all our own stuff. We take care of ourselves and we try to be as low maintenance on the road as we can. It's tough going in. And when you're out there for 10 days, and you don't have your doctors there, and you don't have your testing capabilities. You're at the whims of other people. So when Frank wants to know Well, what are we gonna test? I'm like I've got to ask and see when they could fit us in. You know, I can't give him a Exact time. Where's here? I could just go. Hey, we're going to clock because the resource is air here, you know, so I would say Home is easier to manage the protocols. But You just kind of do what you have to do to get it done, and that's what we do. And I'm Working on what we're gonna do this next 10 days I've got to bring in Some health and George Nelson because we're running into a little more trouble than we had in the last time, And it's just this is stuff you gotta deal with. I mean, that's life. You know, there's always gonna be challenges that you have to find a way to make the answer. So that's where it is What it is. Therefore, stranger, Marshall, Thanks for coming on No problem. All right way were Marcie was talking to Joe about These players that it used to be so active and everything, And so you and the coaches have had to kind of deal with that in the last two weeks. I want to talk to you about that. But first we need to take a break. We'll come back. We'll pick it up with Joe Doyle, the associate head coach, Frank's territory, J. Richard, We just heard from trainer Eric Marsh on the Air Force hockey coaches show on the Air Force Sports network from their field. I MG college presented by U S A. Me. Me. "We went down through, uh, through your turf went down through Pueblo. You go through also go through. Toler's went through all Samberg and worked our way up that way, And then, on the way back, we went to saliva and then came down to Canyon City and like I've never done much of that type of thing before you know, like saliva. Downtown saliva is pretty cool when the Arkansas River comes and they have a they have a bridge, and they have a place called the Boathouse. It's very It's kind of cool their downtown areas anyway. And then and then we came back and I went with it went through, uh, through a canyon city, And you know Tim's girlfriend, JCs fanfic family that's from down there. We drove through downtown Canyon said. I couldn't believe how big a downtown and it's kind of like one of those downtown's. That's kind of lost in time. It's like it probably looks the same now, as it looked in that in the seventies, you know, like the neon and that the signs and that you know it's ah It's uh you know, so we did. We did a little bit of calling. We're out of road trip on, uh, on on our cove. It, uh, on our covert savage Dakota covert Saturday. What did you do, John? What did you do during the covert? I know you watched a lot of hockey games and And I know your family stayed away from you. Yeah. Yeah. Holly and Emma made sure I stayed in the bedroom. And, yeah, they did their part to such one day, she said. I haven't seen for three days that I was Joe. She was enjoying for three years enjoying that, Actually, the best part. We did Assume call Andy Jo and Ben and I and and I says, Andy, how you doing, kid? Everybody stand where he goes. That's hard. The kids are coming in and Jumping all over me and you know, it's just been really, really hard and I go. How about you? Jackie goes, I haven't seen anybody for three days. This'll make up that may become a thing for us. One other thing I want to mention before we actually get onto the air Force hockey portion of the show. Jerry York the other day Boston College one is 1100 hockey game. You got that good. Good for Jerry. Another guy you don't have to worry about. I think Jerry up and Wayne Gretzky, Jerry on the list of hockey guys that you don't have to worry about during the pandemic. There you go. No, Jerry's Jerry marks in bowling Green and Boston cost. Yeah, boy. Yeah, Frank, you've got 456 your brother who Tom we had on the show. Last week, has 324 you guys have combined for 780? I figure if you coach about 40 more years, you might catch Jerry Jerry York Jury's got 1100 wins right now, 11 and his record against Frank's territory and Joe Doyle's one on 11 on one, Right? Yeah, Red Berenson's got a pile, too, and he doesn't have very good record against the Falcons. Bob Moscow's doing pretty good here. Never. Good record against the Falcons way. We've done pretty good against some of the big dogs. I'm sorry and well, you know what? Right now We're all in nine and I'm gonna You know, I'm going to talk about the good old days. Yeah. All right. We need to take a break, and then we will come back and talk a little more. It's the Air Force hockey coaches show live at the Colorado rib and chop house in Dublin and powers. Great to see all you folks here and we'll be back on the Air Force Sports Network from Lear Fill my MG college presented by us. Ah, hi, friend. It's your home speaking and I need some favors. "Kids who weren't restrained at all definitely suffered the consequences. Car seats versus seatbelts. The comparison between Children's car seats and Children aged 2 to 6 who are wearing adult seat belts. No matter how I slice it, I never was able to find any benefit of the car seats in terms of preventing either death or serious entry. Although it is true that in a second paper I wrote with Joe Doyle from M I t. We did find that. Child car seats are about 25% better at preventing the least serious kinds of injuries in car crashes. These papers were published in 2005 and 2006. I was encouraged to see that a couple author's name Jones and See, Bart wrote a piece in 2017, where they just tried to replicate and extend the first paper starting from scratch and extending the day to the next 10 years in both the existing sample and in the future sample they found Exactly similar results. Could it really be that adult seatbelts performed Justus well as child car seats in preventing serious injury and death, even though they're not size for Children. One way to check would be to look at the research done with crash test dummies. In fact, every time a car seat wants to get government approval, it's required that they go through a series of crash tests and passed with a minimum threshold of safety and various kinds of impacts. And so I want to look in that literature expecting to find that there had been lots of research done comparing child car seats to adult seatbelts for Children in a controlled circumstance with Crash test dummies. And what I discovered is that there were literally none. This was around the time the Levitan I published our first Freakonomics book. By now we were writing a monthly column for the New York Times Magazine. So we thought it might be a good idea for that column to run our own experiment using crash test dummies. What I thought was really incredible when we decided to go and actually put some Crash test dummies on seats and strapped him into adult seatbelts and see what happened in the crashes was the reaction of the crash test sites to do in this. You were there, not me. You wanted to tell that story? Yeah, this truth, So it was kind of a two step amazement. Number one was it was really, really hard to find a crash test facility that would agree to do this as it was explained to us over and over again. All our business comes from the car seat manufacturers. There's no good in proving that car seats are not better than seat belts, and then some would say that they weren't set up to do that. But that seemed a little bit odd. Because in order to do a bit of a car seat crash, you need seatbelts. Finally, then we found a lab that was willing to do it. The caveat was that we were not allowed to identify them by name or where they were. I will say that I flew there and it was really interesting because the guy running the lab was a scientist. And he said, I was really intrigued by this question, because it's something I would really like to know. And I think it's good for the science. So I had bought a couple of different size and brands of new car seats, and we start to hook them up and the technician who was installing the crash test dummies. In the seat belts didn't want to do it. There were actually two Dummies, one that represented a three year old child with all these wires to measure the impact of the crash. And the other six year old dummy child. And the reason he didn't want to do it is he was so sure, but the seatbelt would fail and that the crash would like break. His dummy. So then I had to sign. Yet Another indemnification form was on the hook for all kinds of indemnification in case something went wrong. If this wasn't standard testing, and then we ran the tests. And the data from the crash test basically came to the conclusion that the seatbelt had done pretty close to, if not as good a job as the car seat and in fact, if you would just submitted the data From the crash where the crash test dummy was in a seat belt alone. That would have easily passed the requirements for it to have been a car. See, even though it was actually just a seatbelt, and I don't know if you remember, but they were so shocked by the results that they thought there must be a mistake. And they actually ran it over because they thought that something had gone wrong for the seat belt have done so well. Yeah, that's right now. We wrote up the results of these tests and your academic research in our times common level. How would you describe the reception to the news We delivered about car seats, I would say somewhere between complete hatred and not even noticing. I mean, my favorite story is when The secretary of transportation at the time, Ray LaHood came across our work and what he writes in his blogged is quote if you want to slice up the data to be provocative have at it. As a grandfather and a secretary of an agency whose number one mission is safety. I don't have that luxury. I mean, it's like what the heck is only job is to keep people safe. And when evidence comes out that maybe the policies that his department has been pushing for the last 20 years are not keeping people safe. And he has a staff of statisticians who have literally nothing else to do accepted. Look at the agency if it's keeping people safe. It's amazing to me that the response isn't Hey, Let's go show that these quacks are completely wrong or, you know, let's actually try to get to the truth, but just to be dismissive of it, because it doesn't fit with what they've been doing for 20 years. It was really discouraging. Now the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Some officials there after we published these findings in New York Times, wrote a letter to the editor is said Our research consistently shows that child safety seats and booster seats significantly lower the risk of serious injury compared to seat belt alone. They go on to say that your recommendations to rethink car seat laws are quote, irresponsible and dangerous. So.

"Averaging just over one goal per game. Air Force scored eight goals in the last three games. That's a good thing on this road trip, Air Force scored 11 goals. Six of them came from freshman. Three of them came from sophomores. The only goals that were scored that did not come from a freshman or sophomore, were scored by Sean Nolan tonight. So it's all the young guys that air scoring those goals that's certainly good for the future of air force and scoring goals and getting more scoring production. These last couple of games is definitely going to help. Early on. It was tough to get a goal. But the last three games Air Force has found the back of the net. It'll be fun. That's this coming weekend, Cadet I Serena. No fans allowed still. But Air Force and army Friday 705 Saturday 505 both games both nights, 30 minutes Prior to that, we're on the air with the U. They're always physical. They're intense. This air Force team. They need to get back and get off their feet. And you know Joe Doyle brought up today in the meeting. Hey, When we get back, we're gonna talk to the team and the captain's. Maybe we do take a couple of days off this week. They always take one day off. Well, Two Sundays a day off. They always take Tuesdays off. They'll probably go light this week is they need their legs, their shoulders. They're going to need everything on Friday and Saturday night against Army and last season, we went out to West Point. Those games ended in a in an air force. Loss and then a tie that one shootout went nine rounds up at Army. There's been some great games between these two and they'll be back out of the kid and I Serena relaxed dining rules back in Colorado and because of that, on Tuesday night We're moving the air Force hockey coaches show at least last I heard things could always change but to the Colorado ribbon, Chapas, So if you get a chance to check it out, come on out Tuesday night. So it's a little bit different Shops aren't open a little upsetting, see, like small businesses and restaurants still not open right now, so it's a little bit different. And the parents can't come to the games, which is really got to be kind of tough on on them. So you guys being seniors, especially on hockey parents to love being here? Can't believe Marshall Barbary. Zach Maraj, just Max Harper. I can't believe you guys were seniors already. You know, it just seemed like yesterday. Yes, that I was going. We needed. We needed extra forward. So we went to the North American League's, uh, you know the last chance saloon deal that they had in Detroit and and Joe Doyle goes. There's this guy that this flowery kid that Plays with Harper, and he's pretty good. He's got good legs and you know, and you know, we needed one more guy. And where was actually four guys? We were that we join. I went, don't want to be looked at with him. And remember, March played like in the first game, and I said I don't know what the other guys are gonna look like. I don't care. But I want that guy and he was out. There I go. I love his legs and and Member. Yeah. Remember that member went up in the restaurant and the Greek restaurant after and and visit with your with your with your parents, and you and And then, uh, where I just remember, Uh, same deal Join. I were in Boston and and we're going and we're going to watch that plan. You were playing for the Islanders, right? The Islanders? Yeah, That's who it was when this rank was colder now. And anyway, that's Ah. That's him right there. That Zach Maraj us and you guys had a had a really good game. I think you won like 7 to 2 or 7 to 3. It and up And the goalie that they lit up was chained staring. No kid. Yeah. Oh, my goodness. Shame. Let him or goals. I think in that game, and he did his whole career here. Yeah, Yeah, not funny. And then, of course, Max. Remember watching Max? You caught my eye? Uh, actually, I may have been the first one to write you up. Remember? Your first year and Topeka at the North American showcase and blamed I'm going. Who's that big guy? Looks like a looks like a good be a big old pro, You know, Big stride, Long, athletic looking guy and And I always remember the recruiting and that first see these guys playing and now here they are, and and they're the leaders of our team and And they're just great guys and find men and so happy to have him as part of our program. You and Max Harper and we talked. We joked about it few minutes ago here on the show how long you guys been playing together? Same teams. Well, same teams. I think we met in preschool. So a little bit after that plan. How time travel hockey. Yeah. Oh, my goodness. So I'm sure you guys you know the chemistry and you know each other's games and things like that. You've seen that you see in the photo throw Tom lack in there too. Oh, yeah Way got that potent for I got that photo in my office in my In my drawer to his precious, You know, I got I've got those one of my all time favorite photos. Those three clowns, you know that way, Tom. I'm sure was trying to get you guys into trouble at that time as well. And, um But how Well cool is that the pictures? All three guys, and then they end up playing at the Academy. Another one of my favorite photos. I got a photo of Tiger Ledford when he was When he played youth hockey here at Air Force. He's like, five years old, and he scored a goal. He's like that with an air force uniform on I mean, that was somewhere. Those are two of my all time favorite. Pre falcon photos of former players. Yeah. How? How? How fast has the last 3.5 or so years gone for you blink of an eye. Really? I mean, you're you're here your freshman year, uh, a lot of rules and restrictions while you're up there on the hill. Then all of a sudden is your senior year and you're looking back and you're wondering where the time's gone. It's It's incredible. How did I get here? Yeah, well, how did you get here as they then when you Frank Frank saw you and Joe and society in the Detroit and was it a tough call on your part was a pretty easy decision. I think it was a pretty easy decision after coming out here and get a look at the campus looking at the program in the history that they had Looking at the pros and the cons and everything about the military life and the occupier. 0 G here, Um, I think it was a pretty easy decision didn't help. You know, I could couldn't have hurt. But how much did it help was coming to the Academy's got it like it's got to be for you. You've got to make that decision individually. But how much did it help when you have guys here you had Tom are here already. You had harps that was already committed, You know, did that I think it makes it. Ah, lot easier, like jumping into the situation knowing that you have people there that you can reach out to, if times get tougher. If you're unsure about a situation you can always Ah Rely on those guys. Especially Tomur. Just because he you're older. He already went through the situation Then also, I got my best friend Max here with me, so it makes it makes it a lot easier and you have a game. You have way you play the game. Did you have to change that much to fit the way? The coach's coach here at the academy or or was it a pretty good fit from the get go, I think was a pretty good fit, but I definitely had to develop my game. And there's a large learning curve. That freshman year that you, you try to attack and get ahold of It's a lot faster out here than playing in junior hockey a little bit more physical and everything. So, um, I said, I think I fit well into it just with getting into the legs and trying to be a little tenacious. So I think it was a good fit. But the learning curves pretty faster. Yeah. What was the toughest Adjustment. Toughest adjust adjustment. Probably just the speed of the game a lot quicker than junior hockey players air, more skilled thinking, faster pox going faster and for you. For you. It's more in your It's more your mind..

"That nobody wants to draw in the playoffs, and that's gonna be our goal. Pay. Obviously, we want admit when, as many games a zoo we can along the way, and there is no substitute for winning actor after why eventually, you gotta find a formula for winning. That's what it's all about. But you know, right now looking at the first six games, especially the last game against the U. S development program, Uh, we got to get better, and it's got to start in our own zone. Um, we're we're not. We're turning to money pox over in our own zone we got, you know. Hey, like if you're playing in your zone, you know the majority tonight? That's probably not a good thing You know, you need to be able to play in the other two zones. Uh, you know the speed zone. Joe Doyle calls it the speed zone in the neutral zone in the fun zone in the offensive zone, and, uh, You know we need if we need to find we need to get out of our zone. We need to take care of the puck. And if we're not playing in Arizona's much I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. But there's only three zones on the rank. And if we're not playing in our zone, we're gonna be in one of the other two, and that's going to be better than being pendant. It penned up in your own end. You know, blocking shots and hoping out. Alex Shilling and Zach LaRock are making saves. Frank. I know you've got a cut out, so I'm gonna let you go here. Bring on the three captains. But thanks for coming. And if I don't see you before, now, next week. Merry Christmas to you. Absolutely No. Why? Well, Maybe we'll have your dog walkers and Manitou Springs. We'll go Look at the Christmas lights. I was out. They get the Christmas. Well, they might have the Christmas parade again if they're so okay, Well, there you go. All right? Okay. Thanks, Frank. "On the air force's role and look at those guys will talk your ear off before fourteen forty to go in the third and I think we may have a timeout we got a review coming up Joe okay visuals have gone in in Joe Doyle was talking about something when Wilson was pointing something out they haven't given us any indication of what they're looking at my best guess would be the hit that was laid by Luke Rowe okay in open ice and you know what we'll see is I didn't think it was much of anything it was a straight on it with the shoulder to the chest and I would just yes that's what they're looking down the hill you're the blue line that was that would be the one to roll put on I believe it was Nick Bruce I tell you what I would be shocked if this came up as any penalty that when they go in and look at it they cannot call a minor the only thing they can do is assess a major penalty I don't think that was a major in my eyes will see what the what the officials decide they called nothing on the ice now they brought the captives together Brady for R. A. T. all over for Air Force are both out there fans don't forget this hockey season leading lights filter is crashing the party hard Natty light remained highs are bush weighty childlike went out momentarily see what the discussion was about now he's back on the air for Spanish he went out to try to get a little information and relay it back to the coaches the say Hey what what exactly are you looking at the official still in the penalty box taken a look Luke rose had a couple good hits tonight his last one it started the rush up the lid their forces second goal of this game and he's a guy that can change a game with that physicality hopefully nothing comes of this if that isn't that what they're looking now they're out of the box logo want to go to one Wilson the other will come to Frank well they've got the doors to the penalty box closer there's nothing up on the scoreboard the faceoffs going to be down in the Air Force in the gonna drop it to the right of shilling that's when Schilling had made that save on Dan Willett shot yeah no penalties assessed were still five on five with fourteen forty left in the third were tied to that's a good job right there we didn't think it was a penalty or deserving of a penalty but they took a look at it why service you'll put it down near circle the puck on the ice and skated away by Alex Maynard Maynard to center ice which picked up by all right he jumped back into the airforce animator grabs it again Maynard sits behind the Air Force net surveys the ice quarterbacks it out and beats to rhyme at center ice really rhyme that did not get to that park I believe and that's going to turn into an icing call a lot of chirping going on down there go and solve this one of the freshman for our I. T. he skated over in front of shelling and said something to she'll she'll give a little tap on the on the back with a goal stick a lot a lot of chatter going on these are two teams that know each other very well the fourth meeting between these teams that a good one last of the good ones here in Rochester today is one of the two in Colorado springs back in late October her one goal wins last night it was airforce three nothing and kick out Rantzen bringing him occurred to face time like on the dot com Mike wins a tap now can send it out to the neutral zone atomic puzzles out there and get it many times Boberg by.

"Falcon hockey last night the falcons thoroughly dominated this colonial team en route to a two nothing shut up victory was airforce of sport great it was a victory for our forces snapped a four game losing weight a winning streak rather with the colonials had going forward the date it was the best the most games with their four hockey team has played all season and maybe in a while going back to last year also really is Jane yeah we talked about that last night Frank touched on in the coaches talk to the team about that exact same thing you look back at even the in the last season going back awhile that was a complete game in every sense of the word the goaltender Ellie killing was fabulous the nap to make the save when he had to he was there to make the big words but he core was terrific physical they got shots on goal really the only thing they didn't do was score on the power play the penalty kill was terrific so they did it in all aspects of the game now if the test reports is can they do that again in French challenge the team this morning in in the meeting as a team can we do that again each individual person can you be the same guy that you were last night and that's what we'll look for tearing down I thought Joe Doyle the associate head coach made a good point when he talked about Atlantic hockey like of other a lot of other leagues in college hockey a split league leading one cable when one night one people want another night and we've seen that happen if you go back to last week when reports have the bye week there was a game last week today I see one well put nothing over Marcy Hirsch and then the next day Mercyhurst came back to being a I see it over time you can't take anything for granted airforce itself through the tables on Sacred Heart a few weeks back take but are currently dominating airports on Friday night now please come back and win on Saturday you see that a lot more you know throughout the years of of airforce popular Lana cocky and all the championship there for food one the reason they've got the most position is they get points every single night you get a when you get it hi this year a thought there could be shoot out wins and some other things but if you can find ways to get points every single night at the end of the season you're gonna find yourself in a proper position for a buy in their portion right there early in the season and they come out and get points on this thing could I add a corset it doesn't matter which word what level do you play at it's hard to sweep anybody in the hockey or in any sport review we have a chance to sweep all this Robert Morris they were in first place coming in the last night and at eight one seven out of conference play and they didn't just happen to fall into that no they they really didn't and I think we're gonna see a completely different team and you know that Derek school is going to have his guys ready to play they've got a great goaltender airforce got through it with a couple of breakaways that's one of the things we watch from Robert Morris they're good enough on airforce not let's move forward to get behind them because both goals that they gave up we're on break away thinking about five of them in last night's game if they control.

"So I had to go up there again and get it fixed. So so anyway. Pack is going to del Rio. Texas if you look at at Paul shoulders. It looks like the Texas chainsaw massacre. Like an episode of that. You know, here's the thing. We'll talk about this kid. I'm telling you this guy like he is as tough as they come shoulders continually would go out and remember Joe Doyle, and when your shoulder went out, and we went to the hospital. And I I mean, it's shoulder was out, and they couldn't get it back in because they had put him he had had surgery on it. And it was so tight they couldn't get back in and they're trying to put it in. And this is one tough Hombre, and he is screaming and tears are coming out of his is like I I almost passed out. It was so hard to watch and they had to knock him out. So they could relax and get the get the shoulder back in. But here's the deal like as we found out, they fix his shoulder. He had like he had like a genetic disorder in his shoulders in the shoulder. When when when a dislocation it didn't just come out of the joint. It got pushed out through the back of his back and they had to go in. And there was a surgery that they had done to somebody else was also a hockey player. It was a baseball player Olympian. Yeah. That had the same thing. And they had it takes that gets a bone graft the bone onto the back where the thing would pop through which would stop the shoulder from blowing out through the back side of his back. So they fix it. He comes back and starts playing next last year. Plays plays the way he plays. And all of a sudden, boom, he goes down. He comes through. And you can see it's not a good deal comes out. I go to Marcia go if it was that same shoulder. I'm going that. He's done plan. You can only do so many surgeries on his shoulder. And he's and he's crying because he's not he thinks his career is over in any way. Mar I go I go is it is it the shoulder. He goes, no, it's the other one. And anyway, so he has this genetic thing, and they went in, and they did this the exact what the veil did the same surgery and fixed it put put that bone in the back, and and again, another extensive surgery and. You know, the thing that's amazing to me is is like is how fearlessly I like, I don't know how tough you gotta be they go through what he went through save with Johnny co. I mean, like I on the bench of you dislike the pain when you see a tough guy on the bench, squealing, and tears are coming out of there is a legitimate pain. It all and you know, but for Paul to come back from both soldier shoulder surgeries full deal to correct a genetic problem and Baltimore surgeries and to play the way he plays. When you're watching number twenty one out there like he's he doesn't have a ton of points. But I'll tell you what he he finishes checks. He takes hits to make plays. Like, he ain't afraid to go anywhere. He blocked shots at practice. This is this is one tough tough young, man. And like, I'm just so happy that that they that we found a surgeon that that knew what to do to be able to correct that. So you could continue to play because. You know, some guys all hockey players at some point. They all ask if you ask if they love the game. They'll say, yeah. I love the game. And I go well, you'll find out when you if you love the game because the more you play in the higher up you go the more it hurts to play. And when when you go through having I don't wanna say catastrophic, but you know, when you have borderline catastrophic injuries like that like like pack had and like Paul had. And these guys decide that they still wanna play. Now that tells you how much that tells you how much they love the game when you were out. Yeah. Yeah. When you were out with the injuries. How frustrating was that HAMAs? Did you miss not playing? Yeah. Obviously, it was tough. I just try to be a good teammate. Kenneth sport the guys in the locker room. And I was fortunate enough like coaching staff believed in me on a percent through it all and like I'd say probably ninety.

"Convinced you to come to air force? Oh, I think I just weighed all all the opportunities between academic military service the chance to play hockey just all added up. And that was a what's seal the deal. Now, you gotta you had a younger brother that went to army. How did that happen? That's where he played hockey there for four years. Good player. Lifetime rivalry. Now. One thing I will always have over him is he never won a game against air force enforce season. So. Yeah. Yeah. So you couldn't convince him to to you know, what that was. I we screwed that one up by like Scotty, Scott. He's a little guy and he's zooms around, and he was fast and skate and catch your eye and his Jersey's flapping his brother was big and not a pretty skater a little bit clunky. But he was as tough as they come and he had character. And we couldn't get by his skating, and we were waited waited waited finally army put pressure on them, and he'd pay needed to make a decision on where he wanted to go to school army wanted him. So he went there and we played against him for four years and scooters, right? His brother never won a game against us. But I'll tell you what every game we played I go, I wished that big ornery mean guy was on our team, you know, and I know he had character. Plus to be honest with your little brother would have been great together on a line and the beauty of Scottie Scottie could play in any type of situation. He was primarily a bottom. Six guy force. And kill penalties not typing. But Scotty was a guy you could put him with Burnett lambreau, and he wouldn't break the chain. He was the first of all a guarantee you played you played every four position probably numerous times during during your four years. You just had that I was happy to do it. Yeah. And you had that versatility. As a player is your brother's still in the army. He is he stationed out in Seattle Washington. Yeah. He's there. He's. Our lives have gone different directions. It's with the different military services. He's an infantry. He sleep it on rocks and getting ready to kick down doors, and I hear I'm here teaching cadets, and I love I love my job in life. But we couldn't be different directions in the military when you were playing and getting ready to graduate. Did you ever in your wildest dreams? Think you'd be back at the air force academy some day doing what you're doing. No. I couldn't have jumped of it. But I am very happy to do it. It's such a pleasure to work with all the cadets here. But especially our hockey guys academically. I see him every day on the hill. And you just talk tile Hake. The best of all there's a whole handful of guys not far behind him that are all doing excellent work. And they've got a great reputation. Everyone loves to work with them. And you still thanks to Frank. You're still he's still got your hand in hockey a little bit too. As a as a volunteer assistant. That's right. Come down to the Rick everyday work with these guys helped the coaches. More help the coaches coach the players good. Yeah. It's great. I got I got three of my former players Andy Burdet, jock lamb, ruin Scotty, coz lack and then the coach that I inherited from Chaki Dallas Joe Joe Doyle working with me. So I got I've got four excellent guys nephew come by and watch practice. You'll notice that it doesn't appear that Franks doing a whole hell of a lot. There's there's a little there's a lot of truth to that. There's a lot of truth. I got I got I've got the best staff in the country. And when you got people like I got the enthusiasm and the knowledge base at they haven't and the way that they just the way that they have with with young people. It's just I I get a kick watching them work with with all the guys and just get a thrill from cozy out good is it to be back at here force. Oh, it's great. It's great to be in Colorado. It's great to be at air force work without hockey program work with them academically teaching in the management department..

We had the opportunity to get to know Billy over the first his whole career, really. And as I two years enduring playing behind Shane Stewart, and and then excited for him last year and again this year but last weekend against West Point. Nobody knows this. But really literally an hour before he shows up to the rink. I've got a winch, and we're pulling his his Jeep out of a ditch from my driveway. So phenomenal goaltender terrible driver in the snow. Is that a Bill is referencing that I'm getting to work in the athletic department? I get I get to teach some classes down there with cadets, and I had the opportunity to fly some of the world's best airplanes so blessed for the afternoon I've had in the air force. And I give it all the credit to you coach Joe Doyle coach territory for allowing me to go back. And remember is mentioned Cam nealy the other day you go back and watch the Cam. That's what he was for us. He was Cam nealy for us. And if you look at our all Conference Board up there, he's the first man on it. He was the first guy ever to to make an all conference team while we weren't in a league forever. So it was hard to be all conference. They're not in a conference. Yeah. But Scotty was the I was a first guy to be to be on our all conference wall in two thousand one. You don't look much different. You know way back Scott. He had he had a natural maturity about of like he did he had a way about him. He was he was he was one of those guys that was beyond his years in maturity wise, he was way more mature than I was at that point. And in my coaching career. And I've actually I think Jill I've caught up to Scotty a little better. I will I've caught up and Scott, he's gotten more fun. So he's come back a little bit. So yeah. So we have so we get along a lot better now than we absolutely. Got one final question for you. Then we'll let you go you're involved. Now with the alumni hockey alumni if there are some hockey alumni listening wherever they listening to the radio show tonight. And you had a message you wanted to send them what would it be? You know, just just continue to be involved. We've got a great alumni group. A lot of the credit goes to coach Frank, but back Chuck delicacies era. The mid eighties. I grew up watching those guys being a springs kid. And so just stay involved with the program. It's phenomenal to be around. We've got a great following over the three hundred fifty alum guys we've got a solid base. So the communications get better always. Oh, excellent improve. And we're working towards that. But reach out to me or somebody else and get plugged in. Okay. Just like I used to say Colorado Springs. Scotty, bradley. Yeah. Take time out. And so, yeah, it's it's great being back in Colorado Pena part of this organization as a fan to see the success at they're having. You were a local guy Erakat. Demy high school not too many guys come out of high school now go right to college hockey, but back then it was a lot more common. Wasn't it? It was actually played junior hockey and billings, Montana. So I wasn't local high school kid played midgets here but had to go play junior obviously to be able to compete at this level and so two years in billings, Montana. And then I oh the majority of getting to the academy with coach Joe Doyle when he was coaching for for Chuck back in the day. He about ninety seven so twenty two years ago this month is when I think we had a reunion of Butte, Montana as Scotty. Can I talk to you? And then next thing, you know, I'm showing up in June for basic training and Frank showing up later that summer and the race as we go. Yep. No, always good. And I've got fond memories from that group. The team struggled the previous two years before. I before I was hired. And that group we had they came in. And and we didn't have we didn't have a lot of skill. We had Justin Keefer Danny Davies, we we had a few guys that were that vet had had a little bit of skill. But we didn't have a lot of division one talent. Scotty was was a division one talent. And Justin keeper was a division one player but the team had struggled. They backed in there. We played a mix of between division three and division one teams and the team had not done. Well, the previous two years even against a division three teams and. That first year. I was real proud of the guys we want fifteen games they played hard. And what we we put in a very aggressive physical system because we didn't have the skill level to be able to play to play a cute game in exchange opportunities with people and. That was kind of as we established our daddy is being a no nonsense tough to deal with tough to play against team. And we surprised army army had more talent than we did that first year when we went in for that series at the end of the year, and they had been kicking San AER forces face for a few years and dating they weren't ready. The guys weren't watching quite as much film back then and they were not they were not ready for how hard we played. And and I remember, you know, rob Riley coming after me coming up to me after after those games. Rob was fierce, competitor, and fiery. And and he just goes he goes my God had never seen an air force team play play that hard and that tough before, you know, and we went in and we want to hire hard-fought games. I'll be honest with you. They could've went either way. But they went our way and we deserved it. And that team won fifteen games. That's how we ended our season and up. No. To me that is those early years that is the foundation. And then you get a guy we got a guy inherited Keefer, Bradley. I inherited Bradley, and then you go out, and then we start to trickle dies. Andy Burgin, and Brian Gornik and Star Trek line, and you get a few more, and you get a few more. And the biggest problem for for for a few of those years. You know, we started to get some division one players division one caliber players, but we didn't have all the way through our lineup. And and that's not what you see. We've got we've got four lines plus of of division one caliber guys guys that bring something to the table. You know, we've got we've got seven seven plus defensemen. And I mean, and we just talked about how how fortunate we work. I mean, we we had two two goalies that I that I feel are are both were all American caliber. Another first for Scott Bradley first winning season for Frank nineteen eighteen into your junior year. How did that feel after after kinda getting sand kicked in your face for while? Yeah. No phenomenal. Frank gave me the opportunity to play with Justin Keefer for my first two years. His last two years in the program, which if I didn't have that opportunity to play with him. I wouldn't have had. The chances and success with the program that I was able to have and so treat that as a huge blessing to be able to play with Keefe and the names that Frank already listed off. So yeah. We started to see a little bit more depth. But we were still far from what the team obviously puts together now, and you got something to play for because you got in the as well got got, you know, so it was great to have some playoffs. But quick story about the West Point my freshman year, we swept West Point which was kind of our season. Finale like, you said, we're ecstatic. Might as roaches their hometown or close to his hometown rather. So everybody's ecstatic. Frank Lenzi marshy as we're getting off the ice by Zamboni door shoveling ice into a bucket. You know, by this time, we've we've kind of known Frank and his antics. So we didn't think anything of it until we get to the end of the year. Banquet back in nineteen ninety eight and Frank gives every player on the team pluck a puck with a glass filled with vile, west points is obviously now melted. And I still have that today. Absolutely. So Frank is exactly that from day one cares about each one of his players cares about the program. And that among about a thousand other stories are cemented in my mind. Well, we accomplish Scotty we accomplish things. And you know, one of the things was like when I came. Well, we gotta become bonafide division one program. If I'm gonna be your that's that's where I want us to be. That's what I want to be a part of. But I like we had to get better. And I believe we played a mixed schedule throughout your career, right? We played a mix schedule then we played in the, but we played a partial schedule we still played some games against division three. But we at the program had struggled a little bit prior to that against the division three and one thing that your group dead. Scotty like we went we played. I believe I think it was thirty four thirty six games against division. Three teams over those four years. We were thirty four thirty wins four losses. Two ties. And after you graduated we put that part of our history in the rear view mirror, and and went to a full blown division one schedule, and it's been that way ever since. So you've got to crawl before you can walk. You got to walk before you can run and Scotty, I was lucky to be able to inherit Hammond Justin, and we had a bunch of good kids and they wanted to play and and and they played hard. And they they they they maximize their potential, and and and they they did bring that program over your four years you brought it to the next level. You did it's not where it was now. But Rome was not built in a day. And I look back, and I'm so I'm really I'm so proud of those kids, and and you know, what what they accomplished while they were here in that group. It was fun. You are still involved with air force hockey with the alumni program. Tell us about that. Yes. I've had the opportunity for the last few years to be formed a board of alumni and been able to kind of lead that Orden in. Do some phenomenal things to ages stay involved with the program, you know, to be back here in Colorado and be able to get to know players like Billy Crystal Palace, and and quick story about Billy affecting take a quick segue. So you mentioned stats phenomenal goaltender right? Everybody knows what we need to take a break. Let's do that. We'll do. All right. We'll be right back after this on the air force IMG sports network, presented by USAA back to the brass cap in twenty nineteen Xtra sports thirteen hundred is your championship station here. "Drivetime sports. Ryan and wheels with you. For the next three hours. And then we got the nuggets and the bulls later this evening. If you'd like to get in touch with the show, two eight six zero zero four six. Gal Wanda guests going on. If you are a fan of air force. Sports in general. This is the show for you. Because coming up in the next segment, we'll be joined by Tucker bone. He was just drafted last week into Major League Soccer was the twentieth. Pick in the draft as now property of the Seattle Sounders. So we'll have Tucker on to talk about that experience. Bottom of the hour. Ryan swan from the air force men's basketball team will join us our number three Frank, Sarah, Tori, will join us live from Madison Square Garden. The falcons are back east. They're taking on Sacred Heart this weekend, but they're playing Saturday Sunday. So they have some free time and Frank and. Probably Joe Doyle couple of the other assistance may be taken in Black Hawks and Rangers tonight on jealous. Yeah. So we'll we'll check in with Frank if Ota snuck onto the plane, and jeez, right? Really Blackhawks playing in Madison Square Garden. That's that's like. Yeah. So yeah. Frank will join us our number three. So a lot of air force guess, which is which is really cool because I think that this week is. Kind of one of the higher points for air force just in terms of excitement level with Nathan pine being named the new athletic director. So lot of cool stuff. And I hear from you on a daily basis. Many of you are would identify as falcon fans, you just want the reason to be you know, to talk about them, and and share your phantom and today is is one of those days because you'll get a coach in two athletes on this program. Also, a couple of special guests joining us in our number two Lauren and shady they are from hooters here in Colorado Springs. Of course, we're doing the hooter bowl, home, invasion that many of you have already signed up for, but they're going to drop by the studio talk a little bit about, you know, the contest and everything like that. And then they're also going to give their picks on. On the championship games this weekend. And then I left a one gentleman out. And how dare I Gary Mantell Gary is with the I need to get the the official or but he's a local high school referee and here shortly. I think beginning tomorrow night, it is the rest versus cancer. I don't want to say promote your campaign where you'll see the at your kids is games or the local high school that you go and and watch basketball games that you'll see the referees wearing pink in taking donations and stuff. So it's a really cool caused that. We want to shed a little bit more light on. So Gary will join us late in the show to talk about that. Where we start today, though, is a place that we have never started before at least in this. Interational of this program. And that is talking about air force basketball. Normally there are other things that that Trump it either. Because just other thing, you know, something big with the Broncos or the nuggets, but let's be Frank. There hasn't been over the last few years hasn't been a ton of opportunities for air force men's basketball to lead off the show. Last night was was the exception. Last night the air force falcons. If you missed it played a UNLV team that was unbeaten in mountain west play. They were at the top of the conference multiple NBA potential players on their roster second leading offense of rebounding team in the entire country. It's a big time match up and air.
