"Good morning, sir. How are you today? I'm great. I'm really good. It's always good to have football back in the play, and get our week going the right way. So I'm excited. It's been good. It was a good weekend. This is to watch some of these games, the overs keep hitting, so it was fun. Yeah, it really was. Okay, so the good news here for the jets is that the initial reports were wrong. People speculating that Wilson was going to miss the entire year. And now comes out the thought is maybe two to four weeks with a bone bruise slash meniscus tear. Feels like to me that's longer than two to four weeks. How much time do you think Zach Wilson is actually going to miss? Well, I mean, the line went all the way to 7 immediately, so the books are pretty well, where he's going to miss the week one of the season. I would suspect that would be the case. I mean, when you get a lower body injury to a quarterback, you have to be really careful because he's driving the football with his lower body and I would suspect the first two games of the year he's going to miss and that's why they have Joe Flacco. Joe Douglas, the general manager, loves Flacco. We hear so I talk about Flacco. This is why he's there. You know, I never bought the rumors immediately after the exact Wilson injury that they were going to go after Jimmy Garoppolo. Why would you sign Joe Flacco and then trade for Garoppolo? That made no sense. So I think they're going to live and die with Flacco and Mike white and go from there. Look, this schedule to start the season for the jets. You know, all the people that were betting the over here back in Atlantic City guys, Thomas Gable over at the burgada. You know, he's got a ton of action on the jets on the over total. And that schedule, I couldn't find a place where they're going to be favored until the biweek.

"Bowl 57. As well. I will not be surprised to see so many season preseason predictions that this first game is going to be the last one as well. And I've got to say that that's not an overreaction. That is not an overreaction. I mentioned how the bills actually got better. Bill's got better in the off season. They made some moves on their offensive line? They also drafted James cook. Folks, that is the number one sneakiest good draft choice of 2022 James cook being drafted by the bills lookout. And the rams when we spoke to McVeigh and it's just like it was similar to when I was interviewing the general manager Joe Douglas of the jets talking about all their moves in the draft and turned into like the Chris Farley show. From Saturday Night Live, remember that? And so that Bobby Wagner is going to be on. Remember Aaron Donald said he didn't want to play, but now he's back. That's awesome. Now Bobby Wagner's behind him. That's awesome. Remember when, you know, I mean, Odell got hurt, but now you got Alan Robinson, that's awesome. We didn't even talk about Cooper Cup until like ten minutes into the conversation. Right. And Odell might join him. Halfway through the year, like last night. Not an overreaction. I don't know if that's going to be my preseason pick, but I know when people conventionally, it becomes a conventionally wise conversation. It sounds like.

"Got a clip that Garret Wilson line, which is what? Did you hear he was like, did the Chris Farley Wilson tell me that was awesome. I thought you meant me telling Garrett Wilson, the day before we went to the draft that he could refer to, he said, thanks, mister Eisenhower. Please call me rich or your father, your father. I know as we heard Lizzie from the back when you said that. And I know you could spell past F, OHIO or deeper in the alphabet than F, okay? It was just the first thing that popped into my mind. I know. By the way, let me just put this last thing on it. I have no problem drafting Ohio State players. None. Certainly wide receivers. Are you out of your mind? I'll take them. You got to kind of put that to bed once they get to your favorite team. Another jet draft bust. That's the floor. For Garrett Wilson. Okay? Inside the red zone when your quarterback's thrown it to you in a game in New England, you can win. Don't let the ball hit you in the stomach and drop. That's the floor. We remember everything. That's not the royal week. I'm talking about jets fandom in general. That's it. This fall, when Garrett Wilson is in New England and the jets can come out with the win and you're in the red zone. And the ball hits me in his stomach. If he catches it, he's already in front of the previous Ohio State receiver that's been drafted by the jets. Plus he's already, he's already above that. He's going to be like 35 inches in the air when the ball hits him in the stomach. I have no problem. I have no problem with them drafting players from top notch football programs like veal Ohio State. Definitely not. 8 four four two O four rich, numbered it down here on the program. We'll take your phone calls and we'll hit draymond green when we come back. I should not have been..

"I'm so pumped up you guys are coaching. I was like, man, we're fired up to work with you. What an awesome, awesome person. And again, another guy that brings high level of competes, loves football, loves loves battle. A guy that he had to do the dirty work in this offense a lot. And he was beaten his head up against the wall of some of these defensive ends and he was he was working hard for his running back and then when he had the opportunity to showcase showcases talent in the passing game, he showed that. I think you saw that in the playoff games the last couple of years and excellent ball skills got it can separate from safeties. He can run he has a chance to be a really good player. Well, in a few minutes I have left with you here, Joe Douglas look. A hell of a draft, obviously, as you know, a quarterback driven league. What can you tell me about your expectation level for a year one to year two jump for Zach Wilson, Joe Douglas? Do you think? Well, I think first of all, it was really, really cool to see him do his nationwide tour jumping from Nashville to Florida to Arizona working out with his teammates. Building the chemistry building the camaraderie. So I think he started taking that next step. I think you start taking that next step when he came back from injury in year one. When we were pretty banged up as a group as an entire team. And we didn't have Cory. I don't think we had Cory and Elijah at one point in that stretch over the last 5 or 6 games. And he was executing the offense at a high level and taking care of the ball. I think things started to slow down for him a little bit. Towards the back half of the season. I think the way he's attacked working with his teammates building the bond way that these guys are out all out here right now. There are no TAs working together. It's really cool to see. So he's just those guys just got to keep stacking days. Keep stacking days and weeks and months and you'll see that progression. And how is Mackay Becton? How is he doing? Mackay's down Dallas, he's working out duke Manny weather. Rehabbing from that knee injury and getting ready to have a little baby here soon. So it can congratulations to him and his girlfriend, but he's doing well. He's doing well and we can't wait to get him back up here after his child's born and I know that he's fired up to get back here and work with his teammates as well. So if he's with duke, I mean, we'll see the videos of him split box jumping soon. Is that what you're saying? I think there's been some videos that already, I'm not a big social media guy, but I think there's been some good videos of him working out and so we've been staying in constant contact with him and his medical team and duke and feel good about where he's at and can't wait to get him back up. Okay, Joe, look, man, all I wanted to say is just thank you. Not just for calling into the show, but for what you've done. And to ask you in any part of your evaluation of sauce and you're leaning towards sauce and wanting to get sauce. What was there in any point in time and influence from a certain host that you might be talking to right now? He's been pounding the table for him for about 7, 8 weeks. I don't know if that's part of the evaluation process there for you, but. You know, I may have gotten a little bit of that information via a mutual friend that maybe shares a desk with you during draft weekend that there are some love. So that message may have been received leading up to the draft. Okay. Very good. I will accept that. And just again, on behalf of me and my brother and my nephew and everyone else that we know in jets fandom, oh my gosh, great job. Congratulations on that. And I can't wait to see it all. Play out in the fall and beyond, Joe. Thank you. Appreciate you rich. Talk to you soon. You got it. Thanks, Joe. You bet. That's Joe Douglas, the general manager of the New York Jets right here in the rich eisen show. Just a lot of love. A lot of love. A lot of love in the room. I wasn't listening. What happened? That's supposed to say that. I'm happy for you, man. It's a hell of a draft. It was amazing. Dude, I was very shocked. Second round running backs can become monsters as we saw last year. Also, just a trading back up to get Jermaine Johnson. I have no idea why he fell. Nobody would either. Yeah, nobody really knows. And it wasn't even one of those from Daniel Jeremiah or anybody else during the commercial break saying yes. They lean over and just yeah, I mean, this is what happened at the combine. That's what happened in an interview. Yeah, that's what happened here, or there's a medical red flag. I mean, that's three top ten players. I mean, just a particular for instance, nicobi dean, as he starts to drop in the first round, Daniel is like saying it's a potential medical issue, then commercial break. He's just like, yeah, you know, like there's a pack. There's this or there's that. And then the second round, he's like, yeah, I think there's a medical issue still commercial break. And then towards the middle of the commercial breaks of the second round, Daniel's like, I have them. I don't know why he's still out there. Yeah. I would have thought he'd be gone by now. Jermaine Johnson that was just literally as soon as the top ten was over in the trade start going. We're thinking every single time it's for Jermaine Johnson..

Theories of the third kind. Listen wherever you get your podcasts. Joining us on the Mercedes Benz vans phone line is the mayor of New York. He can run for it now. That's for darn sure he's the general manager of the New York Jets who have been eager to have on this program and thrilled that that day is finally arrived the day after the draft in Las Vegas. He is the general manager of the jets Joe Douglas, how are you, Joe? Rich. How are you doing, man? A long time listener first time caller. Joe from foreign park, you're on the rich eisen show. Joe D from Florida park. Oh my gosh, Joe. I love sauce gardener. When I saw him at the combine, just for a minute, just for a minute, there isn't his business suit, you know? Showing it because it's an interview for him. He had his and I think that's the two things about him is that he's all business, but he's also somebody who brings some pizzazz and he's really good. What was your first impression of sauce? Just like a suit. It's like instead of business casual. It's like business swag. That's what he's about. He's an unbelievable competitor. Very confident, very authentic, very comfortable in his own skin. And then ultra talented on top of it. And he just from the very first time we got a chance because he was always high on our process, but then when we meet him at the combine, he comes in on the 30 visit. I mean, everyone just falls in love with the person and then the tape is very easy to fall in love with. So how do you use them? What do you got for me on that front? What's the sense about him? Well, I think coach solid coach ulbricht, they're in heaven right now. I feel like I feel like our secondary is upgrade in general with adding ultra competitor and DJ Reed. And then Bryce hall and eccles played their hearts out this year and had a lot of good snaps on the field for us last year. And so I feel like we have really good depth and soft is going to come in here. He's going to compete. He's obviously adding to the group and I'm sure coach solid and coach all work are going to have some good tricks up their sleeves and in terms of how they're going to deploy him. And so when, I mean, how nervous were you when the Texans are on the clock on that front? Extremely nervous. Very nervous. Because you heard that they were onto a corner. And so it's just at that point, you're just you're crossing your fingers and hoping that your guys there. And when they made them when they turned into selection, it was like pandemonium. Do you even? Do you even call Nick this area at some point? Did you do anything like that? Did you even knock on anybody's door above you or you just decided we're just going to stay put and let ships fall for the lockdown? I think we decided early we were going to let the chips fall. We felt good about our list of players going in and we felt like we had ten guys that we loved. And so if it fell a certain way, we were going to be okay with it. Joe Douglas here on the rich eisen show, walk me through the Garrett Wilson selection, why and what you see in him with Garrett Wilson. Yeah, that was another moment in the draft room where we were holding our breath, but with Garrett, for us, when we were watching him, it was just a combination of things that he does really well for you. Just in terms of the route skill. Obviously the production, the route skill, the ball skills, the run after catch. The ability to take teams vertical to get behind defenses, you can run by people as well. So I felt that he was just the best all around receiver in the draft. And there were a few hurdles that we had to go through, get by in the top ten and again, once the Seahawks turned in the offensive tackle, we were it was just elation. Well, no, I know I'm going to ask you about somebody who's on another team and I know that that's a dicey situation, but the concept that number ten overall pick you use on Garrett Wilson was that in any way, shape or form, potentially sent in the direction of San Francisco for debo at any point in time. Joe? Oh, look, there's a few discussions with different teams leading up leading up to the draft. Ultimately, we made the decision that the right path for this organization was going to be to build this thing through the draft. And we were fortunate that a player like Garrett Wilson fell to us at ten. But couldn't be more excited to add him to that room because we feel like we've got some dynamic playmakers, Elijah Moore, he was really coming on before his injury, Corey Davis, another guy that got hurt, but he was on pace for a thousand yards. Braxton barrios, he stepped in in the back half of the season, came on and Pro Bowl punt returner and just fired up to have him back. And so I feel like we have a good room. Well, what is the sense? Do you think in the league right now, Joe of the wide receiver position? And I know that's a broad question, but I'm about to find pointed here because I've got Howie roseman on an hour number three. He acquires AJ Brown, who's in entering year four. 9 figure contract, at least on paper. Debo, as we know, has been, it seems, is asking for a new deal. We saw tyreek hill, who I believe you also were in on, but you now have drafted somebody who, if I'm not mistaken, the life of Garrett Wilson's contract might be less than some of the annual salaries that were handed out to young receivers. What's your sense of the receiver position and paying those young guys in the league right now? Yeah, I think you've seen over the last few years. I mean, the receiver position is a premium position. When you're talking about that group of players, I mean, it's up there now with pass rushers offensive tackles, corners, quarterbacks. It's getting up there right and we saw the market explode. When you see Christian Kirk getting the deal, he got Mike a lot of good young players got the high contract got big contracts. So that market is really really taken off. So ultimately, for us, going through every option coming through every single option, we just made decision. Hey, let's keep drafting guys at this position. We've got Elijah. We've got Garrett. We've got Denzel, who's been doing great coming back in OTAs in phenomenal shape and working his tail off and let's have, let's have some guys that can kind of be on the same parallel trajectory as our young quarterback. Joe Douglas here on the rich eisen show, and then, okay, I'll be honest with you. I'm speaking on behalf of all jets fandom. This would have been enough. I'll be honest. The first to the first two picture would have been just okay, that's Joe Douglas getting it done. And then Jermaine Johnson keeps falling. He keeps falling..

"That's a W that's an egg. I'm seeing, I know I said don't pay attention to those draft grades. But the a's better than the F. And then Garrett, and Jeremy, the OH, out. It's a J, it's an E, it's T it's an S for spelling stuff now. We don't understand the O in the H in New York. Oh, baby. Hey, man, I'm happy for you. No, you're not. It's great to get these W's. But I'm up for here. No, I'm up here here from everybody what you think you're draft, who you thought nailed it, who you thought didn't. And what I'd love to do is get real deal, bona FIDE, deal makers, and draft pickers on the phone line a day after the draft, and we've got three of them. Howie roseman maybe one of the best drafts, the eagles have had. I mean, you want to talk about how great the Georgia bulldogs were last year and what you want to do is you want to get some of the best of the best. How many times ask any Georgia bulldog fan? What it was like to watch nicobi dean patrol the second level of the defense behind Jordan Davis. And now the eagles are bringing that to Philadelphia with AJ Brown on top of it. That's what you call a big time weekend. Howie roseman's our guest in our three. Steve keim pulled off the first big trade of the draft he acquired Hollywood Brown and of course we all know I will have once again. This piece of stationary on my desk that has been here on my desk ever since Kyler Murray's agent sent it out the week of the combine. He's still a cardinal, no shock, debo still a 49er, no shock. To me. At all. We'll discuss that on the program. Steve Kahn top of our number two, Ian rappaport, as Baker Mayfield, still a brown, I gotta be honest with you, that surprises me. That's surprises me. And he's going to be a brown for quite some time, and I don't know what the browns are thinking. I want to hit on that. Because again, what you do in the draft is you go through the draft if you didn't get somebody that you wanted the position that you need, you go ahead and get the free agent who's right there. Saints don't draft a safety. Look who they're signing today. Tyron Matthew. Where's Baker Mayfield home on the couch with a dog looking for belly scratch? Crazy. But first up. Man, anyhow. Channel magic, the New York Jets. I've been trying to get this man on the program. He said yes. His name's Joe Douglas. Is it going to be great? This is going to be fantastic. It'll be fun. Don't worry. I'll talk about 31 other teams on this program. Yes, I will. I will. Richie hasn't been this happy since the jets drafted browning nagle back in again. Don't draft far. Far I've got drafted in front of browning nagle, but I think you get the point. Marino, draft Ken O'Brien. Draft that guy. Okay. I'm scared. Emotionally. And soon those scars are healing. They're healing right now. Draymond got ejected. That was stupid. Yeah. And Robinson Cano, DFA, Robinson Cano, don't you know? But the New York metropolitan. They don't need them. They don't need him. Even better. Even better. Even better. Giants had a good draft, jets had a terrific draft, Yankees and mets have the best records in their respective man. League this is a great day. I love baseball. April's great. Now it's may. It's been fantastic. I had a terrible April. You sure did. So the crush. That was April. They just ran into Giannis, and that might be a problem for every team that faces runs into Giannis. He's a GM, man. "YouTube dot com slash rich eisen show for anything that you may miss over the next three hours of this program. We have not one, not two, but three general managers in the National Football League, fresh off of their draft. Same thing with Ian rappaport, my colleague from the NFL media group to spin everything forward as we say in the business, good to see you, Christopher brockman. How are you? Great to see you, man. What's happening? I am well, my DJ Mikey D is indeed nuts. All the pick is in. Good to see you, sir. How are you? Oh, I've heard that. I've heard that noise. Good to see. Like the candle TJ Jefferson liked the candles. You know, rich, I did predict Malik was to the Titans and did you bring us any t-shirts or anything back? Why would I bring you t-shirts back? Because you went to Vegas and you're like my children, every single time I come back from a trip, what did you bring me? Exactly, yes. You know what? I'll tell you. Almost like Trevor, you pay us allowance every two weeks and you know what? I got you something from the nunya store. That's what I got from. That hurts. That wrong? Is that wrong to say that to my own children too? Yes. You'll get nothing to like it. Good luck. Here's the deal. You don't win anything in April. The only thing actually the only thing you win in April is the NCAA tournament in the masters. Right? That's the only thing you win. Me Rex Ryan has a few April trophies. Okay. In WrestleMania. Okay. Okay. I don't recall the last Rex Ryan trophy in April. I remember that because the podiatrist convention dude, I do not. I do not remember anything like that. Because the whole thing with draft grades and hey, what did you think of this draft? Is we have no earthly idea. None. Full blue tar ski, 0.0. We have no idea at all. How it's all going to play out. We're all taking our best guess. That's why we don't have draft grades on NFL network's coverage. I mean, when we started covering the NFL Draft, we took our cues from Mike mayock, Mike, as we know, went to Vegas, and then Daniel Jeremiah, who had been on the set. Now he's just celebrated ten years covering the draft on the NFL network draft coverage. We've taken our cues from him and both of those guys are cut from the same cloth. We're not Holy Roman Emperor emperor these picks, thumbs up, thumbs down, boo, throw them to the lines. Figuratively or literally, you know, if you drafted by the lines, or hey, great, put them in the Hall of Fame. We have no idea. We can only make our best guesses based on what we've seen and what the teams needed and how the teams grabbed the player and when. Certainly if we think the world of the player, if the player is rated high, by all metrics, rated highly, I guess I should say, by all metrics, so that's my setup for this. Jets had a great draft. Holy crap, did I have a great job? Oh my God. Oh my God. My God, the jets had a great draft. I mean, there were teams that had terrific drafts, plural. Because they got players that fit their needs. They got players that fit their needs at a certain round at a certain time. They made a trade to go get that player, they may have traded in front of another team to get the player in the poor Baltimore Ravens. They got traded in front. They had a team trade in front of them, four different times during the draft four. Because everybody figured, you know, they've got a certain type, which is a phrase I heard a lot in Vegas. They like those Alabama players. And the Texans traded in front of them twice. For Alabama players. Because they know, hey, we want to know about player. We better get in front of the ravens to do it. But the jets man and the jets, oh my God. I don't even know how to say it. And I know it's my job to actually put it into words. For them to go get my guy. My guy. They got my guy, they got my guy, I've been I'm pleased and proud to say I pounded the table this table for sauce gardener before anybody else did. Truly did. I spoke this sauce to New York into existence in my mind. Clearly, Joe Douglas had his own homework, I don't think so. And so he just listened to you. Well, the neat thing is we're about to be able to ask him. And I know coach Salah, if you saw the video of him calling up sauce gardener or getting on the phone with sauce gardener and just screaming the word sauce into the phone. Kirk screaming the name Khan into his recorder. Sauce. It's what the jets need. They need the back end of the defense. To be locked down when you've got everybody coming at you from digs to tyreek hill to devonte Parker to, if you haven't forbid, get out of the division, everybody in Kansas City, everybody and Los Angeles and Denver and name it. Raiders now have devonta Adams. You want to get past the Raiders the jets always have problems with the Raiders whenever they face them in the playoffs too. Guess what? You got a kid who says not only can I do what I want it. That's a culture changer. He's long. He's 6 foot three and his wingspan is even longer. Has it given up a touchdown since high school? Check that box. And then what do you need? What do you need for your quarterback? You need to protect him and they already did that last year with a larger Tucker, Mackay beckton has heard hopefully he's coming back. What do you need to do? Get him a weapon. You already did that last year a little bit with Elijah Moore and you're sitting there at ten because you traded Jamal Adams and part of that trade from last year was you got Elijah Tucker for the offensive line to solidify that left side..

"Yeah, I mean, the middle of your defense needs a ton of work even though your guide Jared Davis is back there. And you're probably still going to need, you know, I don't know, do you do the jets take the first receiver off the board? Do they still try to diversify their weapons set a little bit? I don't know. I don't know what they do, but they have a lot of money, and I think that they're going to have to start spending it. This is just the football life cycle of how things happen, you know? Joe Douglas, you know, had a tough run there, right? Because you come in at the end of Adam Gase until you're evaluation period on your job starts then. And then, you know, this is a long haul, but you don't know how long you're going to get. And so you have to be situationally aggressive. He has them set up with the space in the pics, but some stuff needs to happen now, you know? He's sending a message, anyone, anywhere in the world, I can get you and it will hurt. "It's fantastic. I don't care what color it is at all. Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about New York recently. Both the jets and the Giants and I had a fun question popping in my head. The first thing I started with was which team would be better to be a fan of. Like, would you rather, that's a fun game? Would you rather, would you rather be a Jets fan? Or a Giants fan? Which is worse, maybe, which is better also they're both like really not great. I wouldn't want to be a fan of either. And 1000% the Giants have had more good moments recently too super bowls, they beat the Patriots. They knocked off the undefeated 18 O patriots in the Super Bowl, taking that Super Bowl from Tom Brady. That's by the way, Boston versus New York in that game. I forgot about that a lot. It's really interesting. I forgot about that. The fact that it was like the equivalent of football's version of Yankees versus Red Sox. And anyway, the question really is not just which team would you rather be a fan of, but the jets are the Giants, which team right now has a better future. The Jets have a coach, rookie head coach, Robert sala, general manager, general manager, Joe Douglas, and rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson. Joe Douglas has shown himself to be a smart general manager. I like him. I like the moves he makes. Now, both Zach Wilson and Robert sala are unproven. But I believe in both of them. I think Zack Wilson's got crazy potential. He's early. He's young. People are way too harsh with rookie quarterbacks. Give the guy some time. Clearly you can see, go watch Zach Wilson every week. Does he make mistakes? Of course he does. Does he also make a couple of plays every game where you're like, geez, and this kid can figure it out. He is, he'll make a throw where he's like running to his right, escaping a sack, launching it deep downfield for like a 35 yard gain into a tiny window and you're like, oh, imagine if this guy played for the packers or had a good football team around him. Zach Wilson is clearly really, really talented. He needs time. Robert sala, I love him. Great leader, clearly like a good dude as players love him. I got some friends who played for.

This guy arrived so the last two years. Technically joe douglas's years and as we all know that was Midway through sam darnold. And i think as you know As much as i love the pres- jamal adams Sending him to seattle for a couple of first rounders and let him go there where they're ready to win with him right now and pay somebody at that position From the back end in and utilize them in a way is better for seattle than it would have worked for the jets in rebuilding what they have done with that. Left side of that offensive. Line for zach wilson. I think this is a different and it's different coach. So don't throw joe douglas out with you. Know the previous admit. The you know the mccallion brad way. Adam gays draft or drew bathwater. Just don't do it don't do it and let's let's band together. Let's go let's go. I mean even seven even in seven and ten. Let's go patrick no you you you think. That's a possibility seven and ten What did i say them. I do think so. I think this kid pop the schedule house com to schedule. Got it right here. He's looking at the schedule. I don't i don't understand how seven wins could be accumulated like is a short. I'm gonna say sure but things like well can is a good time. Hey what you have to play defense to nine. And they've got a coach. That i think is is putting something down and i. I think there's some winnable games for the jets on the schedule. You've got a game but we don't know who who's going to be good or bad just yet. We really don't know that yet. And that includes your that includes your new york jets but we know houston is going to be bad. I don't know so that's one patrick. Thanks for the call. Let's come on now but call back. Let's let's keep on banding together in playoff so on and we're not talking. We're not although last year. That was the guy who called in about the giants Me laughed him out and and shot gathered it because the division was. I understand that but flaming dog. It's still still their neighborhood. That was the neighborhood. They were living location location location. It's true let's talk. Afc north folks every single day for the past Week plus now we've been previewing and A division in the national football league and we have arrived at the afc north. Mike del tufo. If you don't mind give me a little bit of nfl films. Find us so we can get.

"Take your pick as we talk about pressure on certain players. Certain coaches are gm's in the nfl to help do that. Evan takes over our. Yeah so who has more pressure start new york two guys named judge who has more pressure. Joe douglas joe judge. Take your picky. I will say joe. Douglas in the reason is is that you went out and took a quarterback who was somewhat hot at the middle last year into an end of last year. Out of byu zach wilson and you took a flyer on that when you had a guy that you drafted a couple years earlier and you decided to pass on him and you probably could have built toronto with that number two pick overall instead. You look to the future at the quarterback spot. So i think there's a lot of pressure to be especially in new york to pay dirt early right now. We're joe judge on the other hand. It's all the pressures on dave gettleman. He just got. They're they're building a team in a roster gets play card barclay back. I don't think there's a whole lot of pressure for him. People like what he's doing for the giants right now. I think only because timing is joe douglas. Because he's been there a little bit longer. Joe judge is still in the early stages the embryonic stages of his coaching and trying to set a new culture there. I'll tell you what though you are seeing players left and right retiring leaving. His training camp literally giving up on football. He is a hard driving coach. He is a tough coach. He is a an old school mentality for a guy who's not an old school guys a younger coach but i just wonder if that starts to wear on people. Is there pressure on him to make sure that that style doesn't wear out quickly and turn him into a guy. We gotta win exactly. He's gotta win. It's interesting to produce this pressure to get wednesday. She's says interesting. Joe douglas. Because i just i mean i never. I don't know where i don't know where he's going with it. And what he's doing who he's following. What did who's trying to emulate with his style. Douglasville judge gioja. Judge trying to be bill belichick. He's a parcells. That's just that's his bill because guess what they've done they've won. Yeah stein right away either. The bill belichick go ahead. Take your pick. Who is more pressure. After josh allen got his deal lamar jackson or baker. Mayfield i would say is probably baker. Mayfield i agree. I think baker mayfield has a lot of pressure because baltimore. Ravens of clearly said that. Lamar jackson is their quarterback of the future. The cleveland browns really having said well. He's our quarterback and future. We want to try to get a deal done. They never said he want him to be and they've waited a long time to get a guy of his ability but you know what though at this part to a key. Lamar jackson already has a trophy on shelf. he's already got an mvp house their pressure. He's already proven. I can be the best player in the league. I did it already. Yeah the pressure there for him. He's already proven it mayfield. Hasn't he he's shown a lot but he has not proven. What lamar has proven. So there's more pressure on higher for the cleveland browns. I think right now and then the baltimore ravens in general because of everything that cleveland is done they go out again and they get a big time. Free agent edged avion clowney. They signed myles garrett. Go on free agency and bring in hill johnson. From the rams oh. Bj is back. I mean it's just a lot a lot of stress excellent. The browns in cleveland are plan. Take your pick. Who is more pressure. Going into the season. Jon gruden or jon gruden junior. Meaning sean mcveigh. Oh i was like jon. Gruden julia's just what people think. I think another coach. It makes it all about him. I think sam mcvey sound exactly alike of you. Listen to them. Well he learned under. So i would say. Sean mcveigh has more personal. Jon grew because jon gruden as a ten year deal you. He also probably convinced the owner will be. Okay where the fans in the everything that happened with jared goff and it's the quarterback and this that and the other and you trade it to go get matthew stafford and you essentially blamed matthew staffer for your failures a year ago. So i think jared goff jared. You blamed jack. Golfer your field. Wasn't you quarterback matthew stafford so it's one of those deals where it's like okay. You got what you wanted now. Let's see what you do it for. Mcveigh i feel like what would be the break. The breaking point for him. I mean they'll they'll going to be good right like what. What does he have to do. You gotta make a strong gotta make a stronger run. You gotta make a stronger running. You did last year. The yeah that will certainly say okay. I maybe another year. This'll be better. But if some reason just i just don't feel like he's on thin ice. I don't think he's not that. I just pressure the personnel and ran off not on thin ice ramp. They remained the same as they were last year's ashes. Good not great plan. Take your pick. Who is more pressure in twenty twenty. One brian goon coons or aaron prayer. Rogers kind of agree era. See it was a lot made of nothing right. it was all to do about nothing in. He's in camp. he's doing well but for some reason. It just doesn't go. Well that people are going to see See yeah and for good purses on me you know. What did you got. You got him back. Yeah i gave him everything you wanted. Included a potential for freedom after the season. There's no pressure on me now. I did everything. I was supposed to do to make you happy if you're still not happy. That's what did they don't make the playoffs. Titan one s what if they lose the first round i gotta see. Oh looks what what just whatever it could. They don't make things like this happen. What did they just. Don't make the playoffs. They won game if he looks like if he is debbie downer like miserable making faces like not happy it once again blaming everybody but himself. If that's happening during the season the body language is bad. Oh yeah yeah. That's going to go south fast. Those fans already ready to turn on him. They'll turn on worse or or they get bounced in the first round. They get a bad draw in the first round they went into vision. They don't get the whole field of advantage throughout or nothing like that and it. It's up to him in the first round hill. Decide whether or not he wants to stay there. He wants to go. That's on him. He still they have to wait for that. They better have a plan though if he's ready to leave because it's not jordan luck are one more quick one. Here we go. Who is more pressure. Urban meyer or matt rule or like this. I like this to college. Coaches make the jump. Matt rule is already got the year under his belt already. Trying to turn the culture there and carolina Urban meyer as we know this never done this before and has done some weird things already at the beginning. I don't think there's any pressure. I think would be more matt rule because again you felt like teddy bridgewater couldn't help you. You went out and got sam. Darnold elected not the draft any other quarterback christopher. Mccaffrey is going to be healthy to begin. The season for wasn't healthy. He wasn't healthy entire season for your last quarterback teddy bridgewater. And so you like. You're getting what you want. So it's a little bit of pressure to perform because of those sort of things..

"Hey we we believe in you for the next four years really five because he's a rookie in first round and the team has that option right so we are with you. We are you. We're not going to try to cut anything short. I also think and this is kind of mincing words a little bit especially when you talk about precedent. There is room sometimes say. We're going to set a precedent for this quarterback or this top five draft. Now that's a little bit of a dangerous slippery. Slope is going to be like two years from now. The guy who's number six pick for the jets could say well you did it for the top five but still there is room there but i want to say about this offset and these contracts stalemates. Let's not forget in two thousand sixteen. Joey bosa had this offset issue was san diego and that man didn't come in until late august now he ended up. Being an incredible player had a great season. I get that part. But we're talking about the quarterback. And i'm not trying to say he didn't have an uphill battle but we're talking about the quarterback offense is to learn. Gotta get the reps and we're talking about barbara. I know you're saying he could come back any day. Now but the flip side of that is. It doesn't happen until late. August like it did with joey. Bosa and your organization just severely hamster. It'd be a loss year at that point. Because now you have to not only is hard to evaluate zag but it's even harder to evaluate the roster that you put together what i love about what they've done with this team is they created competition it every position right they have you know four or five slot receiver. Everyone talk about co. You wanna talk about larger more. James crowded has been there. You think about the competition that they have running back you know. This is a young rosser. Maybe i believe the youngest roster in the league right now and listen they. They're going to have some growing pains and this is a far from A finished product. Joe douglas you know from the. I is news some school you know. He's come from that from that organization. He knows how to build a team. And he's doing he's building the trenches you can say you know arguably the jets might have a top fifteen offense and defense allow joe. Doug the former offense lima understand how you can have sustainable success with all those luxury pieces on the outside all those foundation pieces. Every house needs a strong base basement..

"Today it's a four zero five first pitch from philadelphia also of note. The white sox beat the mariners ten four. Former yankee. james paxton left this game in the second inning with four arm soreness. That's never a good thing. That's usually not good. Even matt's etiquette game yesterday for the blue jays was he. Did he pitch well yesterday. I know we pitch roll the other day. The damn sorry all screwed these every day. Now actually put every single did yes. He did. clayton kershaw pitched well seven innings for the win. The dodgers beat the as five to one. Anything else notable here that we can move on Here's joe douglas. Topping about the trade of sam darnold to the panthers. He loves the kids. First class human being and the pro a pro's pro and You know i i really. I really respect sam now. Why didn't work here though for salmon. He really didn't answer the question. Look i mean there's A lot of things going go into why this didn't work out and ultimately we have to look forward mob but lucky for us. We have someone that does have an opinion. Why didn't work. here's a nice solid. Seventeen seconds from robby anderson is former teammate. Who's now on the panthers. He was on. nfl network. Telling us why. It didn't work for sam me personally speaking. I did think sam. Kinda the the his development was not correct. You know wiktor with the jets. I think you've been had this. Appoint cast around him and the best coaching so games will. He's ready to go. Yeah telling it like it is said that having we robby anderson yes so they'll be reunited they will and it will feel so good The first woman to accuse to shawn watson of sexual assault has put her name on it and she came out and made a statement. Ashley solis. She said she came forward. So that watson does not assault another woman. She said in her statement that since the alleged assault she suffers from panic attacks anxiety depression and is no longer comfortable working as eight massage therapist as this continues to go on and on and on Nba i know the nfl continues to look at it. And i saw the one quotas how deeply disturbing the allegations are as they continue to investigate. Nba tonight the nets. Take on the pelicans. Kevin durant expected to play james harden. "Think that he is doing an amazing job now. Getting all of these picks and reconstructing this franchise now comes down to making the right picks and believing in the picks that you're gonna make and i do believe that they they have fallen. They have fallen in love with akwesasne. They they are totally cemented in. Believe that he's the guy this what does tells us now again and it's just another step in the process of getting to the draft and You know i'm a jet fan. There's two things that i like. One is the stability now finally at the top of the organization and everybody understands what their role is and who's running things and number two. I believe behind the scenes. There's probably a great collaboration. Going on between rob sala one of those guys. I do turn into a collaboration guy here does it. It's a happy place right now. It is everything's happy place right down and it's a new start. It's a fresh start. No jets jet fans want to win now. But i'm telling you that everything that you could have hoped that joe. Douglas could have done under the circumstances in which he was hired. He has done and hit the ball out of the park. Yeah now. I don't think that there are few people on this earth. That could say that they're more well versed in jets fans than you. I think that there is a very intimate knowledge. You intimate knowledge of jets fan. You could write an entire book by yourself in one day on the mentality of a jets fan now. The reason i bring this up as i want to know from your expert analysis and opinion on the jet fan. How many jets fans win. This trade happened thought. Okay zack wilson. Great he's going to be our guy and how many of them from a percentage standpoint said matt rule was the coach that i wanted. He's now down carolina. The jet screwed that up because they wouldn't let them hire staff. Sam darnold was potentially the best quarterback that drafted jet screwed him up. You know what's going to happen. Those two guys are gonna meet up a carolina. They're going to be great together. They may even go win a championship. We're going to be sitting here spinning our wheels but some quarterback from byu who was an ad aware guy. How many jet fans were saying that. I'm with the fans in my life. That i know are all excited about rob sala. They were everybody was jacked about the hiring of the coach. And i. that's the first thing that has to make the fan happy. We got to get the right coach near the right personality. He has to reflect who we are as a fan base. And i think you've got that guy. I think you got a high energy guy. You got a guy that's got a great track record. And so i think all jet fans are really happy about that. They're split on the quarterback thing. I think some people probably wanted to keep sam here and see if it was going to work in michael floors offense and i also believe that some jet fans don't believe that sam was very good and couldn't stay on.
Philadelphia Eagles Sign Super Bowl 47 MVP Joe Flacco
"Big news coming out of philly. Yesterday joe flacco agreeing to a contract with the eagles. It's a one year deal. Three and a half million dollars. Guaranteed the opportunity to win. Four million more in incentives. Now what does this mean. As far as the eagles and their draft plans remember. They only have one quarterback on the roster until this and that's jalen hurts and they have the six pick in the draft and as you see mel kiper junior and his latest mock has been taking the superstar receiver tamar chase from lsu which would be awfully knife or any quarterback that they have there but so does this mean mel again. It is not your expectation mel with us field. Yates as well here today. It does this mean and again. You're you're mock has them taking chase anyway but the signing flacco does that in your view. Close the door on any possibility that they draft a quarterback at number six. I think they would even going in before flacco. You think about. Joe flacco wise ian eagle thinking about the baltimore raven connection with the philadelphia eagles. Joe douglas and joe flacco who drafted where the want super bowl with the baltimore ravens. So there's that always that connection you can always go to. Guys are picked up later in their career. So for joe. Douglas bringing in a joe flacco you think about what he was doing with the jets in terms of the situation there. And then you've got the philadelphia eagles their same type of thing that raven connections. So i think when you look backing up jalen hurts right now. I don't think he's a threat. I think jalen that guy get jomar chase and go four with him and help jalen hurts and then reassess after the year's over that's what they will do that influence with the raven organization in philadelphia as a factor. I think it's a factor throughout the green and there always is joe. Flacco is a good backup came in the league. Same your matt ryan did and that ryan slow playing great football of course super bowl but Joe flacco did. But i think it's a good situation to have joe flacco there behind. The jalen hurts. Jalen hurts gets hurt. Your season's not over joke and still play. But i think this is jalen team right now. I thought it was carson wentz's team that didn't work out. But i think if you get your march help jalen hurts and then you make your decision air to this year whether in the twenty twenty two draft you have to think about drafting. A young quarterback failed. Same question to you. Does this mean in your mind that the eagles are out of the quarterback market at six. It does not greedy in. Here's a simple reason. Why i agree with everything else that i'm going to double back to that in just a moment. I just have long believed that if you are convinced. A player can be a franchise quarterback that if he's available at six. You have to at least consider it. If you're philadelphia. Now that being said all the indications this offseason from the previous reporting from more about the eagles plan to build around jalen hurts this year plus the signing of joe flacco which at least gives them a veteran option at the very least relatively modest priced by the way three point five million dollars. There are so many signs at the plan. This year is to find ways to make jalen hurts better so i still believe that ultimately the eagles are gonna be in prime position to land one of the best pass catchers in this year's draft a quarterback should not be entirely ruled out. And that's just me having seen the league long enough to know that sometimes teams do things the catch us by surprise even if they should not have caught us by surprise
Who is QB2 in 2021 NFL Draft?
"It would have been fully justified and with that we welcome you back as always live from the seaport district appear seventeen brought to you by chase. I green this get up and we have a huge our coming your wine. It starts with this. It's a quarterback sneak mc shays make board is in and wait till you see the first four picks. He's with us live to break down off the top. Then wait a minute. What did russell say. Is he talking about getting sri. Didn't from seattle the wild ride in. Nfl history continues. And then we'll tell you how the shawn watson saga plays out and what it will mean for every team in the nfl. All that and more as we get out with you when this hour which starts right now with todd mcshay post super bowl mock draft. It's available right now on espn plus all it. It's fascinating a number one. That's no big surprise. He's got trevor lawrence going number one to urban meyer and the jaguars. But here's where it gets interesting. He also has quarterbacks going to three and four at two he has the jets taking. Byu's zack wilson who has been rising up. Everybody's draft what he has been be talk of the nfl draft process so far at three overall. He's projecting trade the panthers moving up from eight to take north dakota state's train lance to be their quarterback of the future which leaves ohio states justin field sitting there. Four and mcshea has the falcons taking him fields the second highest total qbr in college football season and then jones sliding down a little bit later to make five quarterbacks in the first round in there he is the man with the mic board. It is mcshea and it's awesome. Let's start with this todd. We all understand. Trevor lawrence going number one. Nothing even to discuss. How firmly planted in. Your mind is zack. Wilson right now as the number two quarterback in this draft. I think very firmly. The first thing i do when the season is over and a govan studied the top quarterbacks. Because i know that's what we're going to talk about for the majority of this process leading up to the draft and after lawrence. There's a little bit of a gap and then at zack wilson. And then there's a gap between gods trey lance from north dakota state and justin feels from ohio state. So i think he is clearly the number two quarterback in this class. The question becomes greenie. Is that the jets taking two or the jets gonna move out and allow a team like a carolina to that number two spot to take him. And that all depends on the domino's in terms of the veteran quarterbacks right now where does shawn watson wind up carson wentz. We know is going to get moved to chicago indianapolis. I think joe douglas. The general manager is kind of waiting. And seeing some of these other quarterbacks go and he's fielding phone calls he's not aggressively making calls but fielding calls to see maybe if they can move sam darnold and if they do exactly since the pick for the jets at number two and if not as i said i think the jets will move outta to and wilson will still wind up being that number number two overall pick in this class. I grew the. I've been saying for a while. I agree with you completely. He'll be number two. The question is who winds up making the peck. Then the other part of this is. I'm old enough to remember a time when we wondered if justin fields might supplant trevor lawrence as the number one draft now all of a sudden these the fourth quarterback off the board. How did that happen. You go back. And study games against indiana northwestern. And then the college football playoff national championship game against alabama. He completed around fifty two percent of throws with five interceptions. Those games in my opinion. You look at it physically. He's big. he's sturdy strong who mobile. He's got a big arm all the traits that you look for. But he likes to see his receivers. Come open and get stuck on that. I read very frequently. So you compare him with trae. Lance and i have identical grades on the to train. Lance didn't play the level of competition. Didn't play as many games as is justin fields but i think he processes the game a little quicker in terms of going from his first into a second and third and seeing the entire field. So it won't surprise me if it feels is third quarterback off the board. But i think they're kind of bunched together in that third tier of quarterbacks behind lawrence wilson and then the other two and then i want to ask you about the guy that you currently have fifth because i'm a regular listener of the first draft podcast and so i'm listening the other day to you and field. Yates and mel kiper talking about what was going on at the senior bowl and everyone is raving about matt jones. Your buddy mel had max jones moving this thing and i believe he has him sort of. I believe he hasn't projected higher than you have in projected. What do you see for mack. Jones as this process goes on the fifth quarterback in the first round. Well i think what's going to happen. He's matt jones is going to benefit from the fact that these four quarterbacks are gonna come off the board quickly and it's probably going to be cut because of trades moving up. I have matt jones going number twelve overall right now in a i had chicago moving up to twelve in san francisco. Moving back to twenty we have to see where carson wentz go. It does go to

"Urban Meyer on What it means for Sam Donaldson, with Michael Floor coming over, is a passing game coordinator from San Fran, now running the offense for Sala in New York. Well, I'll just I'll tell you two things. Okay, Number one, You know, I know Joe Douglas Like Sam Donald. I also know the Niners staff. Um, you know, a number of the guys. They're like Sam Donald coming out. S o. You know that piece of it? I think you know you can't take that file it away. The second piece of it is that you know as much as I think you want to compare Sam Donald against Justin Fields, Sam Donald Against Jack Wilson going into the process. The truth is, it's not exactly equal. You know, Sam, Donald, you're gonna have to make a commitment, um, on a six year option. After you know what we get to may and this year for the first time, those 50 year options are fully guaranteed to talk about, you know, making a $25 million commitment startled. You know if you're making that $25 million commitment, that means what's right around the corner is ah 40 million per year contract. So I think with Donald, you gotta ask yourself a larger question, Which is, can I see myself entering into that sort of commitment with him? Over the next two years where the quiet the question with a Wilson or a, um or or fields will be. Is he a good enough player worthy of drafting second overall? Because if he is I'm gonna have on the chief of the next to a couple of years, which means I'm gonna be able to build a different way around him. So I think there's just interesting in that, like it was a player they like in house. But you know for them toe go forward with that player is going to cost them quite a bit of money, whereas you know where they they weren't a choose one of the younger options. They do get to kind of reset that clock having quarterback on a rocky deal, so just sort of a complex, interesting decision they have to make. And, um you know, I think it's good news that they have, you know, you know, do do Coordinator coming in Was steeped in the system is very, very quarterback family and the one that's coming from San Francisco Grayson buy Albert Bruce, senior NFL reportedly content strategist. But MM QB on Freddy and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio and XM Channel 80. What were people in the NFL sing about Jacksonville taking on Urban Meyer to get erased the stench of one of 15 and especially going forward travelogues going to be that first pick that they're going to take in the draft? Yeah, man. I mean, this was this was a This was it wasn't it? Well, well kept secret over the last few weeks. You know about last Friday. We're bugging you would listen this hour on another Friday. I know, I know. I know. And I You know it's funny, because, you know, I remember. I think I said this to you, Uh, see if it's the last weekend. It was like we saw I think I saw a headline. Someone has said the Jaguars are interviewing urban buyer. No, no, no, That's not what's happening. Urban Meyer's Jaguars. Hey, you know what, Like, here's the thing like the Jaguars organization, I think spin sideways for a long time, and you know, there's just punched a lot closer in that building. It's not even just the football side. I've had people who worked on the football side. Tell me that it's hard for football operations because it would take a massive effort, toe get there and then sustain it and change the culture of the building overall. And sort of, you know, I think a lot of ways of parallel I've drawn and I think I've probably said this. You guys before his buffalo before Shah McDermott Brandon being out there where before they got there. There was just I think just a systemic problem that needed to be erased and they went and they did it. They cleaned house and they built it from the ground up. And I think this is gonna have to be the same sort of thing where you kick it down to the studs and you rebuild it. And the good news is that that's urban Meyer's for today. You know, Program building is what he's great at the accident knows. I think that that part of it is going to. There's gonna be an adjustment, obviously coming from the college game, But I think there has done enough worked, understand what that's going to have to look like. You're the important thing. I think it's sort of building an identity and rebuilding with the organization isn't giving them an identity. And I just I, you know, personally guys like knowing what I know about urban and how strongly feels that culture. How strongly he feels about alignment. Our passion is about those things. I, you know, And then you see some of the names like, you know, give you guys some of them that I've heard your Charlie strong. Um, yeah. Chris Ash. Former head coach at Rutgers. Morgan Scalley defensive coordinator It you thought was a linebacker for enemy you thought it was years ago. Steve Addazio, the sitting coaches Colorado State try to get into the offensive line coach. They're all these names. That kind of understand what Kurt, what are we talking about? When he talked about culture in alignment, and so it's gonna be interesting to see him try to implement that that the NFL level because you know there's a scheme piece of it in again. I think they'll be able to adjust their Then there's going to be. You know how you build relationships with guys who are a little bit older than the ones you used to pose in relationships, but probably have senior NFL reporter for MM QB on Freddie Fitzsimmons and ESPN Radio room. Quick. You mentioned Eric the enemy. Why don't get the sense that he's going to be the offensive coordinator cancel the chief's next year and not a head coach in the NFL next year. He has a tough question. Answer, Freddie. Um, you know, I would just say he's not alone like there are other guys who've been in this position. I know there's a guy in New Orleans P. Carmichael, who's been Sean Payton's office coordinator for 12 years, perceptions out there that he's not a head coach and He hasn't gotten a shot and you know he's still there. So I I wish I had a better answer for you. It's just, you know, I I sometimes you things come down the connections. Sometimes these things come down to, you know who is lined up with who and You know, I think a couple of these yet he had a decent shot at. Um you know, there were seven open and then we're not. We're not done yet. You know, but My sense is the Chargers job probably probably goes toe brown and a ball or Brandon's fairly. I am not quite sure what the Eagles are going to do, But I know they're gonna look at some college coaches..

"It seems odd, but I can just tell you from being on the inside of this. It doesn't feel odd, and frankly, I was surprised that they were giving him another year. It felt like they were giving him another year just to give him another year. Does that make sense like that? They were saying, like, Well, you won the Super Bowl and you made the playoffs the last two years, So we almost over to you to give it give you another year. That's what it felt like to me. But, um Chris Mortensen intended, Manus say the following Peterson could be out of owner Jeffrey Lurie's not confident about Peterson's vision going forward after the two meet again soon. Always concerns extend well beyond Carson Wentz. Originally was Carson Wentz. Story comes out shortly after the season ends that he may indeed asked to be traded because the relationship with him and Doug Peterson can't be repaired. Um, so there's that, but there's a lot more, including the fall out. From last week Sunday night football season on the line for the Washington football team and Doug Peterson pulls their starting quarterback. Jalen hurts in the fourth quarter. Which was something we talk about pretty much until Thursday. It was our show Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and trust me. Eagles fans were not happy as an eagle fan. I think I thought I look terrible. And from Doug Peterson standpoint, what you do is you start Nate Sub Feld. To start the second half or to start the game. If you know you're going into the game, and you're not gonna you know that you're good. You don't want to win the game because it affects draft position and by the way There's nothing wrong with that happens all the time. It happens all the time where teams say we're out of the playoffs. We're gonna rest some of our normal starters because we're not playing for anything. We want to avoid injury. Oh, and by the way, hush hush. It'll help our draft position. So nothing that the Eagles did heading into the game. Not that that would make sense. The problem was Peterson screwed it up. And he couldn't handle a a simple tank game to where it's a three point game. The Eagles actually felt like had the momentum to win the game, and they pull their starting quarterback for a guy night, Nate sub felled and if you watch the game Pretty clear that he can't play and he's terrible, and he was terrible on Sunday night, so I wonder how much of that also plays into it to where that was embarrassing. And Eagles players came out not behind sources. Miles Sanders came on Wi PE this week and said that that nobody liked it. They didn't like the decision and they had questions about it right. So maybe that place into a two, But we can agree. My producer is again a Jets fan. Another Jets question for you here, Connor. Because Mike Florio pro football talk, floated this idea. I think it was yesterday. Where? Why not a good old fashioned trade a coach for something? And it felt like it was an informed opinion that that was something that was gonna happen. He didn't put a lot behind it other than just saying it. Jon Gruden famously got traded from the Raiders to the Bucks. How would you like Doug Peterson is the next head coach of your New York Jets? Connor, You know, the Jets need all the help they can get, And it's been a long time since they've been good. And Doug Peterson is a Super Bowl champion. But to be totally honest, John, I don't have a lot of confidence right now with Doug Peterson, and even though he was a Super Bowl champion Don't necessarily know if he's the guy. I would want the Jets to go in higher now. The other guys they're looking at or all coordinators, and you really don't know what you're gonna get with them. But I feel like we've seen Peterson over the last few years. Just lose control the team completely. And I'm not necessarily sure I'd be all that optimistic or have that much faith in Doug Peterson. Yeah, I think you would be right. I think Peterson makes sense in certain circumstances, and he'll get another job. He's a Super Bowl winning coach. Um But I don't know if a young team that you're trying to build even though it seems like that's what happened in Philly 2017 you want a lot of one year contracts, and you had a lot of mercenaries on that team. That was not a young team that you grew and you built. They kind of got lucky in 2017, because the one year contracts then we're gone and their aging roster that they had. You can see where they are right now in 2020. Do you know who knows that the general manager of the Jets Joe Douglas was here in Philly for the Super Bowl run as the assistant GM Howie Roseman. He got hired by the Jets. More less off of that run and his impressive run being in the Baltimore Ravens organization. Would it would it surprise me of Joe Douglas dialed up the Eagles and said, Hey, This isn't working out with Doug. How about a about a mid round draft pick for him? It would not surprise me at all. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I I You know, I I don't I don't know what Joe Douglas is looking for in a in a coach. Maybe he looks at Doug Peterson and says the problem is everything going on around Doug Pearson. It's not actually Doug Peterson, which ultimately could be the case. But I mean, we'll have to see we'll have to see but very interesting that all the sudden it comes out this morning that Doug Peterson's job isn't safe After all. Maybe the Eagles are looking for a coach, and here's the other thing. Sometimes it's not just Not just about the codes. It's about who potentially could be the coach, right? So you may stay with the coach just because it's like all right. Well, if we were to get rid of him who would be higher? Well, there's nobody really out there. That's all that interesting or interested in us, right. But maybe there's a coach out there and don't don't think for a second that behind the scenes that general managers aren't talking to agents of potential head coaches. That wouldn't know if in fact they be interested. So let's just say that Eric the enemy who's been interviewing for jobs, let's say that somebody is speaking Terek, the enemy's agent, and they more or less know Hey, if this job became available, would he be interested? So maybe that also changed to to where they're interested in a candidate who now is is interested in them. Now the son Doug Peterson, coming back for one more shot. Isn't necessarily the best idea Have it'll be really interesting to see how it all shakes out. But it wouldn't surprise me based on the reporting from from Tim and from from Chris Mortensen that Here's the thing with Doug Peterson is that he apparently also isn't necessarily happy. So if he's not happy, and he's not convincing the owner already then it seems like this is just more or less kind of doomed. From right now. Ravens and tightens as the 1st 1st game of the triple header starts. How great Is, uh, is Super wild card Saturday. I know people were making fun of the name again yet to throw super wild card Saturday. Yeah. One good thing of the 2020 Covert year was that you got the extra playoff game so they get three and three and the Browns and Steelers game I'm kind of that's my least Actually the bears in the Saints. I'm not really looking forward to all that much, but the Browns and the Steelers. I just feel like the Browns air. Are The Browns. Just like I said, with the bills, they're they're win that they had yesterday. Feels like they're like that was their Super Bowl for the year and the Browns just getting into the regular season or getting into the playoffs. And man did they try to screw that up last week, right down the homeless, giving up an onside kick where they got lucky. They were fortunate to win that game. They were fortunate to make the playoffs..

"Yeah, no, not happening, not not happening. I don't like that either. I would I would be again. But he hired and fishing down in Florida that he wants a better from food for your people to that. He wants a veteran quarterback, veteran quarterback, so I don't know. I don't know. You know them better than I do, Georgie? Yeah, I do. And I'm telling you, I don't think that that's the case. I think that we got funny talking about plenty of time to talk about it till April. Yes. Yes, we dont Thanks. So much for the call. Um, no, the thing that I'm hearing and not necessarily reports on what their general manager is thinking about doing I'm hearing from Jack fans what they want them to do. So if the Jets aren't going to take the quarterback number two, which I think they should I'm not big on Justin Peel friend. Did anybody miss the game that Justin Fields just had Against trouble. Lawrence, who is going to be the number one pick in the draft, They should be the number one pick in the draft. Even after the rugs out of the game. What Ohio State did against that Clinton defense. A lot of people said about just field well, he didn't face off against very good defensive when he played the Indiana defense it to a couple of picks. You all by the way, one that came and we played against the Northwestern defense in a game in which his teammate in the backfield sermon running back rush for 330 yards. It wasn't like because he didn't have a great game. He dragged the team down. No, they had other options. So he didn't have to throw it all that much. And Ohio State won the game. They keep winning these games. Despite supposedly Justin Fields doesn't have a huge game. He's not drinking his team down the losses. Well, he answered the call play against Clemson, a team that had been undefeated and with their star quarterback had lost all of one game in three years. They beat him and beat him fair and square. And, yes, he outplayed Trevor Laurence, who is the highest ranked quarterback coming into the draft. In years since Andrew Luck, he's going to get the highest grade. Now you can get grades wherever you want. Grade you condone. Believe who you believe you can have your own draft guru. You can take the consensus. Believe me when I tell you that the NFL just across the board ranks this guy as highly as you possibly can. And I still would, despite the fact that he was outplayed in the bowl Game two Sugar Bowl the other night by Justin Field. I've said this now for months months that this is A two top quarterback draft. That there are two potentially franchise alternate or altering quarterbacks in this draft. Warrants and fields. Lawrence is the top quarterback. As good as fields played the other day, and he outplayed Lawrence. I'm not going to get so crazy is to say Field should be the number one pick in the draft. I don't believe that. Oh, by the way, he's got one more game to showcase it. And he may move the needle every winds a national championship for Ohio State. I still don't believe that I will come out. Not the next weekend cause next weekend will be prior to the championship game. But the weekend after here on CBS Sports radio two weeks from now and say, Dad, Yes. Appealed to be the number one pick in the draft. I doubt I'm going to say that I'm reserving the right to say it, but I'm telling you right now, I doubt that's where I'm going. I think I'm gonna stick with trouble aren't But I don't think there's much of difference between the two. I think they are both franchise changing quarterbacks, and I firmly believe that the Jacksonville Jaguars, they're going to pick tribal Lawrence and I firmly believe the New York yet should pick. Justin Fields. I'm not the same as my colleague who just checked in Larry, who said he's hearing go. Douglas wants a veteran quarterback. Well, I'm not hearing that not from the jet reporters that I know that people that have good sources into the jet organization. Nobody's told me that Joe Douglas to his credit, I think Has played his cards pretty close to the vest. First things first. They've got to get rid of their coach. That's only a matter of time. It's gonna happen. I thought it might happen by the time we got to this segment of the show. That the Jets might make an announcement on Sunday night because Adam Gates make force their hand to that hasn't happened now. It's after nine o'clock eastern time. My guess is it won't happen till now till tomorrow morning, But it will happen. Gates will be given his walking papers from the jacks. Um, I don't think the general manager is going to voice his opinions. On the draft. I think they'll ask him that question because I do believe he'll pace the media and someone's gonna say how impressed were you would just infield is either guy you looking at? I think Joe Douglas will head I think you'll have in it all and say he's got a lot of time to make this agent about the direction and team going forward still months away from the draft. Why would he make a statement about who they will? It won't draft. I think I've died to the question, and I would, too, if I were him, Um, but the Jets do have the number two pick in the draft. Locked in. You knew it before the game against the Patriot today. That's why I was so wholeheartedly rooting for the Jets. I wanted to see them sticking to the Patriots. They couldn't do that. Sam Donald to a couple of packs. He probably didn't help his trade value, which bummed me out. But Jacksonville's got the number one pick. The Jets have the number two pick. Miami has the number three pick in a trade with Houston from Laramie Ton. So from the previous year at four in 12, they got to tie breaker over Atlanta who, likewise with foreign 12 Day of the fourth pick in the draft. Cincinnati and Philadelphia right now are five and six, Cincinnati finished up for 11 and one the Eagles or 4, 10 and one Now the Eagles win, Then they are going toe lock in. No, they they go to 5 10 and one, which means they would jump ahead of those teams that finish up five and 11th. Detroit's five and 11, Carolina's five and 11 Denver. It's five in 11. So Philadelphia, I guess would drop into the number nine draft spot if they win this game, and they did score. Touchdown. Jalen Hearts. Wren went in from the yard out, so they got Within a field goal of the Washington football team. Why I think tonight the right now sits at number 19, but they have to win the game. If they don't they'll add six and 10 slot in wherever they're going to slide in, Um, probably right about where the Giants are, as a matter of fact. Um and the Giants right now sit with the 11 pick in the draft. It could go to 19. If Washington does lose that game. I do.
