Boston - Jeff Garcia Got Very Mad At Cam Newton For Wearing Clothes

"Going on with this Jeff Garcia Cam Newton feud because you want to get this in here for Rhea? Yeah, I guess Jeff Garcia's on NBC Bay area out there, you know, because obviously, the Niners played the Patriots guy. And I guess because of that he had AH, take on Cam Newton's postgame attire. OK, Eso. Jeff Garcia. I'm guessing wasn't happy with it. Is that right? He wasn't He with Cam Newton's attire. He thought it was a little much for post loss He thought Well here in the clip, but he thinks you should have your winning outfits and you're losing outfits I did yet. Do you think Jeff Garcia brought two different outfits to the game based on winning and losing? I don't think so. But I guess there's no way for me to prove that either way, so I don't even know where to guess on that one. Well, anyway, let's let's hear Jeff Garcia on Cam Newton. You go into this game two touchdowns for receptions. You throw what? Three more interceptions. You get shanked in the second half. There's nothing good going your way. Why you dressing like that? To bring Mohr attention to yourself. I'd be trying to ask the equipment managers put me in your jock sock. Card and sneak me in the back door and also upon the field and do the best that I know this sounds like you're speaking from too much experience here. Okay, like this just goes back to a couple years of just watching this guy and seeing him at the podium. But yet what he's doing on the field does not translate. To being that guy, and I don't want like mean Joe. Name it. Yeah. The fork. Oh, yeah. When? When you predict you're going to win a Super Bowl and you go out and do it? Wear whatever the hell it is, But, you know, right now I'm not buying it. I've never understood why people get so upset with Cam's outfits. Who cares what he wears it just like you, Mike. You and your boy Calor. Yeah, you and your boy Cowher getting so upset with the backwards hat. Which you I didn't know that was something until yesterday. I went in. I would have said I was upset. You seem pretty upset at the end of the show Yesterday. She was in tears. You were You were angry. You were very angry. S O. Garcia, for some reason, is upset with Cam Newton's outfits. Now he can. Some reason he laid out the reasons why. Well, whatever so cam got wind of this you and responded yet they was on WD eyes, courtesy that canned He It took him a minute to figure out who Jeff Garcia was. It really cleared up for him if you have you heard his comments Who is this? Garcia? Former former bag 49. Number five. Yeah, Yes. You know what's crazy? I agreed with him and the fact that You know, he's a former player. You know, he has every right to say that and until that happens, then so be it. But that's another opinionated, you know, theory. And it is fair to say so. I mean, I know I come off to so many different people so many different ways, and that's fun and and he's You know what he's exactly right? But I'm not taking away what he was saying that essentially, you should have a different Outfit for post loss and the more somber looking out, you know. Ah, well, no, just but, you know, I would say this. You know, I do certain things because of the culture. I'm from And you know, round from. I don't know where Jeff is from, and and I don't want to harp on the too long, but let's just say he's right. Yeah. I mean, I saw it with Cam Newton here. I don't know why Jeff Garcia so upset about this. This clothing situation.

Biden makes unexpected campaign stop in Pennsylvania

"To it. But to tell you truth, I don't think much will change. But anyway, I wanted to ask you about Joe Biden Yesterday. I the Early indication was that he'd put a lid on his campaign but apparently was convinced to do something because, after all, it is only a week to go. And what they did is they drove in 45 minutes to Pennsylvania for a quick little Ah, Photo op and getting speech. Do you think it's kind of odd that he's with one week to go that that's the best they can do on that particular day yesterday? Well again, if it was something that was unplanned, and they hadn't done it asleep by the books like I mean, if you look at the rest of his weak here, it's pretty filled up with stuff. But when you and then frankly going into early next week, but if this was something that was unplanned, then I think it was, you know, an opportunity that they took advantage of on some level, certainly with president from doing three different events, But Biden was in Pennsylvania the night before, so Sunday night. He was in Pennsylvania having an event. Trump had his three events there yesterday. So I guess just having Biden go back to Pennsylvania is no big deal the next date over so but it would seem is, though there was a little bit of pressure put on him to do something on some level and you're going to see him in Georgia today. Right now, we have no announcement for what's happening on Wednesday Thursday. He's going to be in Florida Friday in Iowa and Wisconsin Saturday in Michigan. Nothing yet on Sunday and then on Monday in Ohio. So when you look at his weak compared to President Trump's president Trump, of course, have those three rallies Yesterday. He'll be in Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska today and then in Arizona and Nevada on Wednesday and then nothing else. We've got nothing else scheduled for President Trump going up to Election Day, So I'll be interesting to see how this all plays out, especially because there seems to be plenty of availability. If either one of those candidates wanted to make a stop in Texas or any of these other states that air seemingly quickly turning into battleground states.

COVID-19 in the United States

"The corona virus has never been stronger in our country. By any measure. It's now at its height thus far right now tonight, average daily new cases. Now nearing seventy thousand, that's the highest. Since this started total cases topping eight point seven, million death toll at two, hundred, twenty, six, thousand, and the US leads the world in both categories and with the corona virus at its height. The president of the United States is insisting with a straight face that it's going away. Contending. Ending Anyway, we're rounding ending anyway what progress we've made on it to understand it. We have the best testing in the world. That's why we show so many cases because we do more testing than anybody else. But we're doing great and. Oh excuse me here. I am right I'll be. Three. More packed rallies for the president today even in light of new findings that his past rallies have led to spikes in the spread of Corona virus then there's Mike Pence he's the head of the House Corona Virus Task Force. He's still traveling and out on the trail as he was today, even though at least five aides including his chief of staff and personal aide have tested positive for the coronavirus pence himself has tested negative but according to CDC guidelines. Of course, he should be in quarantine trump's chief of staff was asked about the administration's response to this latest outbreak in the West Wing and the rise in cases across the country. Here's what we heard yesterday and today. We're not going to control the pandemic. We are going to control the fact that we get vaccines therapeutics and other mitigates. We're GONNA get. Because it is a contagious virus just like the fully, but we're going to defeat the virus where we're not going to control it. We will try to contain it best we can. If you look at full context of what I was talking about is is we need to make sure that have therapeutics vaccines. Joe Biden called Mark Meadows by name when he criticized the White House earlier today. Right. Now, chief of Staff Mark Meadows run on television to admit. The. country. Administration, was even trying. Trying to do more to deal with a pandemic no caveat is. Just a deadly admission I've been saying for months as you well know. That he waved the white flag. All the way back. Then some people said I was being harsh. On, fair the White House is coming right out now and admitting what I said months ago was absolutely true. You know Mr President. It's going to be announced for soon when we see what happens with Obamacare. The Trump Administration is asking the Supreme Court to invalidate Obama care. The justices set to take up the case. Just one week after the election. Trump furious at the interview, abruptly cutting it short. I think we have enough of an interview here hope Okay, That's enough. Let's go. His press secretary, then handing over a book, calling it the president's healthcare plan. But according to 60 minutes, it was filled with just executive orders and congressional initiatives. Economy Week Ahead: GDP, Central Banks, Factories

"A look at just how quickly the economy is growing. Joining us live to talk about this CBS News business analyst Dill Schlessinger Joe Good morning. So what are economists predicting here? So remember first quarter we had a 5% drop second quarter, much worse 31.4% drop in annualized basis and this quarter that that will be reported on Thursday morning. Last Big economic report before the election. Q three Expecting a 30% increase? Yea, we liked that direction. Certainly a great new piece of news for an economy that's crawling out of the cove it recession. So remember when you hear that number 30% don't thinking your little lizard brain. I know we'll have them. 0 30 down. 30 up. We're all cool. No, we're actually Really still in the hole. When it comes to the recession. We're still down about four or 5% from where we were before the recession began. Well, what are the projections here? Jill? You know how long are economists saying that it's going to take us to pull out and what do we need to really pull us out of this slump? Well, you know, when I talked to a lot of the economists that are covering this pretty in depth, Lee, they're saying that they believe that the third quarter is going to be the peak of like this big, huge jump up, Then we start moderating a little bit. So in the fourth quarter, we might only rise by 45%. It kind of depends on when and if we get stimulus. The International Monetary Fund believes that for the entire year 2020 that the U. S economy will be 4.3% smaller than it Wass at the end of last year, so That's really important. I think that most economists are really focused on having governments continue to inject money into local economies and having central banks being cooperate. Now we've got the central bank They're doing everything they can. The government really needs to get going on this $2 trillion or so of aid. You know, when I talked to Ah, one economist Diane Swonk, she said. You know, without this aid. We are talking about a pretty scary situation because it means that we might not see employment recover until get this mid 2024. So they want this money going into the economy to try to save jobs and also maybe to retrain workers and re skill. Workers who are sidelined from the labor Force because of the cove of 19 pandemic would kill the other wild card. Here, of course, is you know another surge of covert 19, especially another surge over the winter when you know it's really hard for Restaurants and bars to do outdoor dining in that kind of thing. That's exactly right. And so you know, when, when we looked at the numbers, and we start talking about this, we have to understand that the third quarter was really the best possible quarter to see a rise in output. Now I think that the surge aspect of this the unknown part is really going to hit those industries that have already been hit pretty hard, and I think that's why the idea of having some stimulus ready to go pretty quickly is high on the wish list of economists around the world. All right. Thank you. Jill,

Poland's Top Court Tightens Strict Abortion Laws

"Loose. Highest Court has ruled that the only circumstances in which a woman may have an abortion is in the case of rape incest or if there is a threat to the mother's life, the EU has reacted swiftly saying such a decision is tantamount to a ban on terminations and such a violation of human rights which could put women's lives at risk. Tell us more. We Cross over to Warsaw. Now to join Joe Johanna pretends guy who's a political journalist for Reuters welcome back to the show you Hannah. Thanks for having to explain to us how did we get to this point where the the Polish Supreme Court with voting on abortion rights? So. Abortion has been a debate that's been ongoing in Poland for many years now, and it's not the first time that we're seeing women on the streets. Protesting limiting abortion rights in, Poland. But the accusation is that the Polish government, the ruling nationalist and decided that it should be ruled on as through the courts and not through parliament because it would potentially limit broader discussion about this at now, of course, the ruling government has not said that, but that if the accusation from opposition activists that by avoiding public debate in parliament on, this is just kind of sets the decision in stone by taking through the courts and the reaction has been pretty clear. This weekend we've seen protesters disrupting church services. We've had sit-ins. It's it's been very clear. What many women think Yeah absolutely I think. Every single day since the decision was made, there have been thousands of people, thousands of people on the street in all parts, of Paul, and not just in Warsaw and I think the protests are expected to continue this week. And tell us a little bit more about how the government has responded to this. I think the government is defending the stance in there. Saying this is a decision by a court. It carries weight and I you know this confirms a lot of the socially conservative values that said the law and Justice Party that's in charge in Poland has been seeking to confirm since it came to power in two thousand fifteen. I'm just tell us a little bit more. About some are saying that so many protests having being held in. Churches. I. Think many protesters staging sit ins at Sunday mass, and what have you and it's suggested that the Catholic church is Fall to involved in government policy in Poland could you explain that for us? So the ruling party does have a very close relationship with the church at the Catholic Church in Poland in many ways is more conservative than the Vatican and it really has been kind of the pinnacle a confirming socially conservative values on issues such as abortion, but also another issue such as the civil partnerships fraud ubt people So the church really death play a key role in kind of helping to confirm this world view that the law and Justice Party has been trying to. Confirm as well at through through its time in power and I think that's why people went to church on Sunday in protested because they felt that the church is a key part of this decision that this institution that really works hand in hand with the ruling party. One thing that people have suggested is that the European Union must step in more clearly here and so far as if it is seen as an attack on women's rights. It must act against one of its member nations. But unfortunately, we've seen what the European Union be things take a long time and I think that. It's. The European hasn't taken strong action in a lot of other cases I. mean the debate on the rule of law is still ongoing in the EU add. There's constantly discussions about how to place limitations on Poland, but I think the government has sense that not a lot of concrete action has actually been taken and I would say many critics say that the consequences from the European Union don't seem to be swift or strict enough. In data I mean look Poland has got a track record of having long debt running speech the you about attacks, judicial independence, human rights, the freedom of the press. What point do you think that there will be intervention for by the European? Union or is there just an acceptance in Poland that the EU will take action, but it is indeed to slow northern effective. I mean, there was a discussion. There is an ongoing discussion in the European Union about linking. Issues not just rule of law, but also anything that violates the treaties. With EU funding and I think that's a discussion that will continue for quite some time. This was something we saw what the whole at discussion the summer about the lgbt ideology-free downs if there was a way to cut funding from the European Union to those areas that declare themselves, lgbt ideology-free and I think you know the issue of abortion will also be part of that broader debate. So I'm sure the European Union is is likely to continue to discuss this to vocally condemn it and try to find a way to to take action. But it's just a matter of when that will happen and with what strength that will happen

Breaking Down Joe Biden's Plan To Make The U.S. Carbon Neutral

"At Thursday's debate, there was this telling exchange about climate change. Would you close the? Transition from oil minister yes. I was trying to. It is a big statement president trump again boosted the fossil fuel industries contributing to global warming. Joe. Biden is campaigning on a plan for net zero greenhouse gas emissions by twenty fifty and peers. Jeff Brady has more on his two trillion dollar proposal Joe Biden's climate plan is ambitious for an economy as big and complex as the United States but even those connected to fossil fuel industry. Say it. May Be Doable Scott Siegel with the energy focused law firm Bracewell says plan is pragmatic and includes both regulations and incentives for the growing list of companies focused on using cleaner energy in the future one thing that makes Biden's approach somewhat comfortable is that you can sketch out that linear commitment to additional resources to achieve these objectives which I think most people in business believe are going to be. The future anyway, the country has one example of meeting an ambitious climate goal. The Obama Administration's clean power plan aimed to cut emissions from power plants about a third by twenty thirty even though court challenges stopped the plan from going into effect, the country is ahead of schedule David. Doniger. IS WITH NRDC Action Fund the political arm of the Natural Resources Defense Council, the power sector is already undergoing. Changes have reduced their emissions by more than thirty percent ten years ahead of the target that the Obama Administration thought was aggressive in two thousand fifteen. A big part of that was the collapse of the coal industry coal fired power plants continue to go out of business replaced with cheaper natural gas and renewable energy. Still, the Biden, climate plan faces significant hurdles it relies on technologies that haven't been. Developed or may not be commercially viable. That's why the plan includes four hundred billion dollars over a decade for research with the economic hit from the coronavirus pandemic Biden's campaign updated the plan this summer it includes billions of dollars to hire people for things like plugging abandoned mines and building electric vehicle charging stations. Steph Feldman with the Biden campaign says, the plan also focuses on environmental justice forty percent. Of the benefits of those investments, go to communities of color and low income communities that have been disproportionately harmed by pollution and the exit climate change. This is especially important to the most vocal climate change activists while Biden has distanced himself from the green new deal. It is popular especially with the left wing of his party Jenny Marino Zimmer with three fifty actions as this is the strongest plan. Yet from a Democratic presidential nominee, the Biden campaign has committed to doing some really great things like ending leasing of also feels on public lands. We'd like to see them go further and create a true phase out for the entire fossil fuel mystery over the course of the next decade. Biden's plan has a longer time line for a transition and includes a role for fossil fuels with offsets and. Carbon Capture Amy Myers Jaffe manages the climate policy lab at Tufts University and says, all this is a credible plan for addressing climate change. The Biden campaign has listed the right things but the difference between listing things and getting those things is a big difference. If Biden is elected, he'll likely need democratic congress willing to pass laws and allocate money to make his plan a reality. Jeff Brady NPR

How Trump And Biden Differ On Energy Policy

"We are now just over a week away from election day although we know millions of people have already voted. But in these final few weeks, we've been focusing on some of the policy differences between President Donald Trump and former vice president Joe Biden differences that might not be so easy to discern when they're buried in the middle of campaign rhetoric or debate jobs. Right now, we're going to focus on one revealing moment during last Thursday's presidential debate when the two candidates talked about energy specifically, how should the US get and use power in the future have a transition from their own minister yes? Oh. It is a big statement because I would stop why would you do that because the oil industry pollutes significantly here so let's dig into that a bit more what other two candidates competing visions for us energy policy going forward and what are the implications per workers and the environment to help us sort this out. We've called Dino Grandoni he reports on all this for the Washington Post with us now Dino Grandoni. Thank you so much for talking with us your. Thank you for having me on. So let me just start if we can with that clip that we just played there is a divide and how these to view the future of. US Energy. So when it comes to oil, where does each one stand? Yes. So the two candidates have laid out starkly different visions for what they would like to do with the oil industry and how they would like to transition away from fossil fuels or whether or not. They would want to even do that You saw a Democratic candidate Biden pledge to move away from oil in favor of renewable energy and predicted that that kind of move will generate millions of jobs president trump by contrast says that doing that would be costly and hurt the economy and in particular would hurt the oil producing states where both men are competing for votes. Well. You've recently written that president trump has very recently tried to rebrand himself as an environmentalist which would seem like a difficult sell when his administration has rolled back countless environmental regulations over the past four years and he continues to push for oil coal and gas. So what's his pitch? Yeah, and this is a man who has spent much of his life trying to rebrand himself during various business ventures. So He Over the past year has changed his position and a few different things he has promised to fund restoration of the Great Lakes when in the past White House had proposed cutting money to do that similar story with the everglades in Florida and He is endorsed this idea planting a trillion trees around the world in order to suck carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. President trump is going to have a hard time convincing the public that he is a more environmentally friendly candidate than Joe Biden, release candidate who cares more GONNA do more to solve climate change. His administration has spent the past four years rolling back literally dozens of anti-pollution another environmental rules and that kind of reputations probably baked into the public. At this point president trump has attacked for vice president Joe Biden for what trump a radical climate plant and we do have to say this has been described as by far. The most aggressive climate and energy platform that this country has ever seen from a major party candidate. So could you just just as briefly as you can describe what are some of the key elements? So what Joe Biden wants to do is eliminate US contributions to climate change by the middle of the century and on the way they're doing. So he wants to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector in particular power plants by twenty, thirty five, both of those are very aggressive timelines and like you're saying more. Aggressive than anything any other major party candidate has ever put forward. It's in fact more aggressive in some ways than what Bernie Sanders was saying back in two thousand sixteen. So let me ask you this though how does Biden respond to the argument? That's would cost this have tremendous adverse economic impact especially in states that are necessary to for him to win I, mean, how does he respond to that cost the loss of just thousands upon thousands of jobs? Well, he says that his climate plan is also a jobs. Plan that transitioning away from fossil fuels will create millions of jobs in itself to have to install solar panels, built wind turbines. But then also all all the different sort of retrofits that his plan calls for to homes and businesses to make buildings more energy efficient. He really thinks of this as an economic plan in addition to being a plan to stop climate change or headed off at least. Well, we knew though that president trump in contrast president trump has always kind of focused on that economic impact of. This country is kind of reliance on fossil fuels and back in two thousand sixteen many people may remember he promised to reopen coal mines and to bring back coal mining jobs has that happened no that has not happened and we've seen trump talk less and less about coal in the first two state of the Union addresses. He gave he talked a lot about clean call and saving jobs but he dropped those references in the last two state of the Union addresses and we've seen coal fired power plants continue. To Shudder and call nine continue to close down during his presidency not because of any government policy. Really. But experts say it's because of economic pressure Kohl's just gotten to expensive relative to natural gas and renewable 's and what about oil I. The idea that a move away from fossil fuels from reliance on fossil fuels is increasingly popular with the public. I mean, the polls make that clear but apart from that are the economics driving oil to face a similar fate, a colleague of yours reported last month, for example. That British Petroleum VP has come out publicly and said it is shrinking it's oil and gas business and investing in wind and solar. So are sort of economic imperatives or whatever public policy imperatives regardless of what president trump sort of perspective on this are they driving in that direction anyway. So during the pandemic at least in the short term, the oil industry has been hit particularly hard as people driving fly less. There's a lot less demand for oil and that has caused a lot of oil companies to have to. Lay off people and even have to declare bankruptcy in this country that said, there are some experts who do think that oil is going to go the way of coal right now, electric vehicles. There aren't that many being used relative to the entire auto market in the United States, but there's this expectation that adoption of electric vehicles is going to pick up and that's going to really eat into the petroleum business because most of the petroleum in this country is used towards transportation field towards the gas tank in your car. That is Dino Grandoni. He is an energy and environmental policy report with the Washington. Post Dina Grandoni thank you so much for talking to us. Thank you for having me

"On the one hand and yet lines like we've seen lines of cars for food banks. Why is it so hard? Beca to to bridge the gap between producers who have product and people who need food so emergency food system is not equipped to deal with the number of people that we have access to get currently so you know one of the big bottlenecks has been storage capacity right especially for fresh produce like Joe's talking about right. You need to have refrigeration. Available places to store that product and With the quantities. Talked about right now. You know a lot of times. That's really challenging. I've been working with the national farm to school network They run and support many of the farm to school programs across the country and we talked to them about how the school was adapting to provide these meals to children. I mean many of the kids in our country are dependent on these these school meals. And what we heard is that as they're transitioning to these different types of emergency food programs. They're really shifting away from providing a fresher perishable product and towards on non perishable items. And that makes it more challenging to connect at producers directly to those types of networks and feeding systems. Joe Do you worry about the long term impact for your own operation and for other growers around you in California as this drags on yes. We're we're thinking of what what the future holds for us. The fresh fruit and vegetable industry is probably most impacted. Because we don't have as much flexibility as say the nonperishable foods you know if I grew beans or rice. You could just hold it in the silo right. But you can't hold my melons very long. We can hold them in the cold room for a few days or maybe even a week but eventually that cold them gets full and you have to make room for the new fruit coming in. I was telling the other girl there that I worked under rope awful. And defense central went bankrupt. And they couldn't pay us. Yeah. We went to I went almost most of villain almost a much without a paycheck. And I wish we talked it out. We we talked beneficial finance. Household finance? We dodged everybody. But we stuck it out. Ultimately, get the money. Did you get paid? Oh, yeah. Yeah. We we got it. You know? But it was the government bailed them out then. And eventually if that's what became Conrail. I see, you know, I think one of the fundamental differences is when you've worked for a company you've worked for an organization, you have a relationship with them. I think it's a little different when you're kind of being used in a political pawn on something that you just stay you're caught in the middle. Well, I'm I'm a Trump guy. But I'll tell you what I don't think. That's right holding people hostage. That's I feel what he's doing another something totally away from it. Yeah. I do. I absolutely do. And I think that's one of the things that Trump. That's troubling me. Yes. There's a battle over this wall. Totally understand that do we need to get that resolved. Absolutely. Do we need to deal with security? Absolutely. But not at the expense of these federal workers know, and because I went through that, you know, my wife and family went through that. We gotta get a traffic update. That'll give me a chance to pull up those names. And we'll get those names out there because there is definitely a contingent of elected officials who have decided they are not gonna take their paychecks as long as workers aren't getting their paychecks. So we don't wanna make it sound like everybody's getting a check, and they don't care about those who aren't his. That's not the case. You're listening to NewsRadio ten twenty.
