How AJ's Mother Got Him Hooked on Gossip

"When I was a little boy, my mother never read me children's books. She read me the gossip pages from the four dailies. We had delivered to our home. And as she licked her thing is through the pages of the New York Post, the daily news, the Long Island press, and newsday, she exposed me to a world that I knew I had to be a part of. Now, what could a little boy possibly have in common with Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Tom Jones, or Cher? Well, apparently everything. To me, those big names in bold print who were always in the news weren't people as much as they were invitations into a world. I knew I had to live in, or at least visit from time to time. So before I bolted out of the house to play with my friends in the schoolyard, I would sit at the kitchen table with my mother as she read out loud the papers gossip columns to me. Cindy Adams Liz Smith, wrote a Barrett. I love to hear where movie star spent their summers. What films they were making, where they ate, and who they were in love with. And of course, some of the gossip artists would have just fallen flat. Had it not been for the comical side of my father who would sprinkle in some jokes now and then. You know, a simple mention from my mother about, say, Joe DiMaggio would turn into a detailed screed that my father would deliver from across the room. He'd say, he was the greatest ballplayer in the world, ruined by a Hollywood whore. And as soon as my mother took the side of mala Monroe, he digging deeper. Look, the guy goes to surprise his wife with roses on a movie set one day. He gets there. He gets there and sees 5000 people staring at her panties while they're blowing wind up her ass from under a subway grating for half an hour. And that was that, three weeks later, he filed for divorce, and he was never the same man. Is that true, man? Unfortunately, yes, on this set of the 7 year rich. Yeah, she had literally all right, my father would say. And everybody scratched it. Mickey Rooney, you will bring a Tony Curtis brandel Monty cliff uncle mill to even Ruby Rose is scratched that itch. It was my mother who made me crazy about gossip. Without her, there's no gossip column. There's no book. There's no podcast, no nothing. Who knows right?

"The game was notable for bringing the Yankees Joe DiMaggio and the Red Sox Ted Williams, together on the same team to Hall of Fame outfielders were each having legendary seasons with Williams batting over 400. DiMaggio, breaking the consecutive games hit record. Of course, the game ended with drama. Williams stepped to the plate with two outs and two on in the ninth and hit a towering three run home run to give the American League the wind. Williams later said that was one of his favorite moments of his career jumping way ahead today in 2000 and seven at Wimbledon and the men's tennis final. Roger Federer of Switzerland wins the singles title for the fifth consecutive year, beating Spain's Rafael Nadal. And today in 2010 LeBron James shocked the sports world by announcing via a live ESPN special, called the decision that he would be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers and taking his talents to South Beach joining the Miami Heat. LeBron would win two titles with a dot com Hey, it's drew from Justice Andrew and if you missed any of the show, make sure to grab the podcast available anytime at Twin Cities News talk dot com I was fire. Once out. Thursday Edition of Justice Andrew continues on coming up in the next segment. We're going to chat with a Ned Ryan from the American majority. He's got a new book out the story of Boston and Bunker Hill. Tell us about that and get into some other stuff as well. But in the meantime, we're talking about putting cameras in classrooms going to read a bit from the Matt Walsh article that I was based on a lot of this off of Matt Walsh writes. You know, this is nothing to say of body cameras on police officers, and that's what Brian was mentioning at the end of the last segment. Protection in the In the case of body cameras on on officers works both ways. They create accountability for police officers who may be engaging in bad behavior, but they also protect good cops from false claims made against them. It would work the same way in classrooms. Right? I mean, it would protect good teachers from false claims false arguments in the accusations that may happen it will. It will provide greater accountability for bad teachers. And I don't mean just bad teachers in the sense of misbehaving but just bad teachers, teachers who aren't doing their job teachers who aren't educating kids they call in the end of the last segment about how From a former teacher, and he said, you know, probably would be make me a little apprehensive knowing that parents are watching. But I view that as a good thing If you're if you are charged with not only caring for and being the caretaker of my child, but also educating them. I want you to be a little apprehensive. I want you to be a little concerned that I might be watching or other parents might be watching because that means you're more likely than not, You're going to work harder at your job. Right well, and if you're afraid that something you're saying it's going to get you in trouble. Well, maybe you shouldn't be saying it maybe or or have the strength and can of your convictions to say you know what I said this because I believe in it, And here's why it's important And here's why it's right. If it's going to be something provocative and controversial, and something that you know some parents, some parents might get upset about. But you believe it is important. Then you go ahead. I told Drew off air that I tell my Concordia students that they can't fire me. I don't really work here. 651 99 5855 got a few people that want to chime in on this. Should we be putting Classroom cameras in classrooms. Eric and Apple Valley. Go ahead. How's it going, guys? I'm a truck driver, and I've worked for a couple of different companies now and all of the larger companies that I have worked for all have Dr cans in the truck and they're not just for protection of the company. For protection of people on the road as well, Uh you don't They cause you to make sure that we maintain a safe following this. Don't take risks that you know. Yeah. You shouldn't be taking on the road. I mean, they're good for the insurance company. They're good for the other people on the road. They keep safer drivers. Truck drivers can do it, and it works out well for us. There's no reason that the teachers can't have cameras in their classrooms as well. And it makes you more and more accountable. It makes you as a truck driver, you know, you know that every action you take out there on the road is being documented. Right? So you you know you You're not going to let your Like it's going to be less likely that you're going to let your attention slip or make a mistake or, you know, get get get get caught up in a road Rage incident if somebody cuts you off or something like that, because you know it's going to be. You're going to be held accountable for it because the evidence is right there in front of you. Absolutely. Yeah. Why? Why? Why wouldn't you want that in something As important as the public education system? Why wouldn't you want that level of accountability and something as important as educating your kids? I can't think of a good argument against it. Let's go to await and Ramsey go ahead. Are you doing? Great show? I 100% think we should have them in the classroom. And I think they've already set the precedent for the last year when our kids were in distance learning. My my son was had to have the audio And camera on the laptop in the house. I actually build the school district for use of a classroom in my home, but they had the audio and they had the visual in our house in which they were using, you know, as a classroom. And the teachers at any time. We could walk in there and listen to what the teachers were saying, too. So I think the president's been fact they had a year of knowing parents could walk into a room and monitor what they were saying, and they put cameras in our classroom, which was basically our house. Well, and I I have a question. Has this been employed? Um, at at any, your private institutions, you know, you know, do we have, you know, a record or any kind of data to kind of draw on to see? You know, did this stifle learning? Did this improved behavior? Um, And I think that it's probably gonna take a private school or charter school to implement this before we get anywhere near. Um, uh, you know, public schools and yeah, I'm getting texts from my teacher wife. She's not happy. So you know what your own show Jenny. I adore your wife and I hope your wife knows that I adore her. And I think she's awesome. But sorry, Jenny, we're putting a camera in there. That's happening. Okay, Let's go to a Laura in Richfield. Go ahead. Hi. Um, they have had cameras in public school buses for years and years. So if they're on the buses, why not in the classroom? There you go. Give me a good reason. Why not give me a good argument? Why not? And and and teacher apprehension can't be that argument. Right. I mean, that's kind of the whole point. The these are the people we want to hold accountable. These are the people that we want The transparency with. We demand transparency in almost every aspect of of not just government life. But in in in in the private sector as well. You know, we want transparency and your kid's daycare. Most of them have cameras installed. Now you wanted on the police officers. Right. We are in the school buses We wanted on dash cams and truckers. You know, we were looking for accountability. We're looking for transparency. We're looking for evidence so that you know so that good people don't get caught up in false accusations and that bad people are held accountable for their actions. Yeah. I mean, you're putting devil's advocate. I'm sure that they're you know, in a public setting that there might be something You know where there might be data on your child or something that happens with your child that maybe I, as the parents of another child shouldn't be privy to, But you know, there's you know, the It's a balancing act. Yes, I'm and I'm sure with a little bit of a little bit of thought. We can find some mechanisms in some ways to get around those situations if something is going to be sensitive You know, there are places you can go and have those conversations outside of the classroom. Where the cameras are. You have offices. You have guidance counselors. You know you have opportunities throughout the school day to have conversations one on one in different settings other than the classroom about what, But I think the the presumption in the expectation is what happens in the classroom. Every parent of the child in that classroom should have access to what's happening in that classroom. Well, and and and But, you know, I want to give the collars of opportunity. All right, let's go to Jason in northern Minnesota. Go ahead. Yeah. The last collar took my thunder. I was going to say school buses took my thunder drilling. I'm a truck driver, and they wanted to put their cameras facing the cab of the truck. And I told them if they do I quit..

"Man who received a face and double hand transplant procedures so rare it had only been attempted two times before this. This is really quite unprecedented. Trish Henry, program manager for the reconstructive transplant research programs, this has only ever been 18 face transplants and 35 hand transplants in the U. S. Also worldwide, only two other combined face and hand transplants have ever been attempted. On those were unsuccessful before his surgery six months ago. Scars from third degree burns covered much of Joe DiMaggio's eyes. He couldn't smile. His 10 fingers were mostly gone. Amount of time has been around for a long time. You're like a huge fan I've seen every episode. I'm kind of still won't be a comedy anymore, so, yeah, but I think we're going to reboot it. You've got to be a little different because it's such a good classic. You can't live up to the comedy standard. My broader point is this is that there is editorializing going on in your department. "To coast to coast George in order with you mark Shaw with us mark you're the connection with the Marilyn Monroe and her late husband Joe DiMaggio of course her ex husband were they trying to get back together yeah you know that the think if they had she still she would have lived I I think you know unfortunately you know such a storybook romance and I think you really loved her and I think she really loved him he got upset over a lot of the role she was playing her half her clothes were off there she did the nude photos or whatever it was and so they had they had problems with that and that's what led to the to the divorced but as the you know August of nineteen sixty two came along they had a close relationship and a lot of it was because of Joe DiMaggio junior a Joe's son had really gotten close to to Maryland when they were when she and Joe were together and in fact Joe DiMaggio junior was one of the last people to talk to Maryland before she died and and so Joe is trying to protect her and I found some evidence of of where Marilyn was it was called the cal Neva it was a large inhabited by a lot of the mafia Sinatra other kinds of people since you're not you're one of the owners or at least at the Thailand owner up there as well as gent Sam Giancana the a gangster and Sam was a silent owner type right right on the border of Nevada and California and she was up there on a weekend before she died and was very upset at what was going on and she called Joe to come get her and for whatever reason he didn't and then she came back down to Los Angeles and all of that so you're very perceptive he wrote it he wrote a book with a collaborator and I've used some of that material in there there's no question that he I don't think there's an exaggeration hated the candidates and what they were doing with her just her and when she died he he basically said well I know you know what happened here so yes and fortunately I think if that relationship would have gotten back together a Maryland would not have died in nineteen sixty two then at her funeral he banned a lot of people from showing up in the we certainly didn't let the Kennedys kamu and all of the the show biz people you know if you if I found a an interview with her with her photographer probably in about nineteen fifty five if you look at her in those days here's this naive beautiful young woman wit you know just as nice as she can be and all of that and you know just starting out in the business and all of that and I just you know I keep that image in my mind of of who she was before she got into you know the the crazy world of Hollywood land then and now and Sinatra and all these other kinds of people in the Kennedys because you know they just they basically just that destroyed that young woman in her that young girl and her and her life went down downhill from there was John Kennedy market seems like we had somebody with two personalities because on one hand he was a very polished young president he you know was working on civil rights he he he had that taken care of the Cuban Missile Crisis with cruise trough and a great way yeah he was doing so many things that seem to be so presidential yet he had this other part of his life that was out of control his relationships with his mafia connections all these other things I don't think it's a as far as you know cry to say he had and a sexual it was a sexual DVL yeah and and you know all the women and everything but that that comes from Joe Kennedy that's what Joe Kennedy was you know Joe Kennedy used to say Bobby Kennedy hates like I do they they had Joe Kennedy's personality you know I've run into this with athletes that I've either written material with or that I know they all feel like they can play by different rules and it's the same thing with politicians the time and and you know look at the women that paraded through the White House then and some of them ended up with the mysterious deaths as well and poor Jackie had to know about that also Bobby Kennedy and Jack Kennedy had children look at all the children that Bobby Kennedy had he's out there running around on apple for god sake so that the ethical part of those two guys the the moral part goes completely against some of the things the Bobby Kennedy did and and Jack Kennedy did jump up to whatever reason they had a kind of split personalities in those particular areas and and it really does show flaws in their life that that that that you know you hate to see in in people like that because both of them didn't deserve to die early as Maryland and and Dorothy did think of all the things those four people could have done if they have lived and they all died at a very early age yeah absolutely let's take some calls here for you more cut Tom in la Hoya California Thomas good to hear from you go ahead George thank you for accepting my call god bless you and the entire coast to coast community you know mark when I think about the assassination of Kennedy and the murder of Marilyn Monroe and Dorothy Kilgallen might think of the well Perman decks decks spelled P. E. R. M. I. N. D. Eric's and allegedly Perman decks was a corporate entity for assassination it was the go to corporate entity if you wanted to get somebody killed and it sounds like total conspiracy theory like snacks like specter and James Bond right but accept their permit decks got indicted in France for assassinations of politicians in France they had corporate offices in the New Orleans trademarked and job they were like once the government wants the C. I. A. Kwasi mafia Kwasi whatever policy corporate and Warren Beatty made a movie called the parallax view based on the permit decks mythology so to speak dean Koontz wrote a book called dark rivers of the heart also based on the permanent decks you know alleged mythology but again there's disturbing things like France indicting them for assassinations you know and they would be the type of entity that you would bring in you know to murder an actress well I haven't I haven't heard of that organization but it does bring to mind something one of the new things that I pointed out to the commissioner in New York City is new evidence about Ron Pataki who was killed gallons a colleague lover whatever you wanna say who share it and she shared her JFK assassination information with him I was able to find it again during the help me do this a a primary source he was a mafioso who lived in in New York he was sent to the sands hotel in Las Vegas to check to see whether a dealer out there was it was a cheat cheating and according to this source that I interviewed he said he got there any he said you know they found out the the the dealer was cheating and he he never cheated again but I was interviewing him and everything and finally at the end of the interview are talking about Kilgallon and all that and I said did you know about Ron Pataki said oh my god yes he said we heard that Ryan Pataki got in trouble and that the these rogue government agents like you're kind of talking about here government agents or underworld people came to him and said listen Ron we need to know what Dorothy Kilgallon is going to write in her new book if you'll help us will help you so this source told me that when Pataki went to Dorothy and Dorothy said look I'm going to expose the cover up by Hoover of the JFK assassination I'm going to point the finger at Carlos Marcello I'm going to do this and I'm going to do that I'm gonna put it all on the block Pataki then he said took that back to what he called the wrong people and when when he did that the way that this this source told me and it kind of gives me a chill when I say it he said when those those bad guys those wrong people knew what Dorothy was going to do she was dead and and so you know there may be outfits like this out there at that particular time you know was a different time George remember the mafia kinda were looked upon as celebrities back then you know Frank Costello and and Dian con in all those kinds of people and you know yet they were cold and cold blooded killers and so this kind of an organization would be somebody that could be called upon if for instance Hoover one to get rid of you know of of kill gallon or Marcelo dead or somebody want to get rid of of of of Marilyn Monroe so I see how that tie in could come there but as I say I've never heard of that organization by the way run Pataki when he was younger looks exactly like Robert Morris did the actor in the how to succeed in business looks just like him I never thought of that I think you're right look at those pictures when he was not this looks just like he's still alive is any talking up I don't know I don't know honestly chaining him she still may be back to we are not the connection with what do you think Dorothy was working on on the Maryland death Maryland Dyson sixty to kill gallon dies in sixty five was she working on an expose on that too well these columns and and I'll I'll put those in the in the new book because I found them recently where she says the whole truth hasn't been told she talks about various things happening including the Kennedy the leading Robert Kennedy was the last person to call Maryland she talks about problems with the death scene she talks about Maryland having such an uplifting look at life she talks about all of those kinds of things and so I do believe that she if she had lived I think she would have continued to look into Maryland's case her death but of course they cut her life short and she wasn't you know able to do more of that but again you know she was she was a kind of reporter the Walter Cronkite the type of reporter who took her time and did her homework you know if she's if she's so credible because she was at the ruby trial as he was in Dallas many of these other authors including me we weren't there but Dorothy saw all of this happening and and she had the best sources and so I think your your perception is right George that with all the sources she had and what she wrote in her columns that I have in the books I think she would have continued to investigate her friend as she picked up the call to call her Marilyn Monroe because she really felt like it she said the real truth hadn't been told hundred what's my line handle her death like I was too young to remember the show it's it's disappointing the last show November eighth nineteen sixty five you know those people that said Dorothy had a drug problem or alcoholic all you gotta do is watch that show and millions of people have now watched it I'm pleased to say including a lot of those that I saw the video up on YouTube about presentation and and Allen Texas and then you watch your issue sharp as can be she was always the one who guessed more of the maybe some people out there don't know it was an intellectual quiz show.

"Shows. I don't even know what he was plugging. But he claimed in these interviews that he's over his desire to make the hall of fame and told over and over again and instantly famous showers story about Joe DiMaggio. Do you have any shred of interest? In anything rose has the same. Listen. Listen. Pete Rose is a clown. Pete Rose is a clown. He's been a disgusting Klein for a long period of time. And there's been plenty of people who've been willing to buy this guy's garbage for over forty years of a good way to do it until the day dies. That's the only thing I actually believe about heroes. Let me tell you about Pete Rose here. Pete Rose doesn't wanna make the hall of fame because his brand is better without him being in the hall of fame. You think you didn't bet on baseball will he said he didn't bet on baseball for so long? But then he didn't bet against his own team. Yeah, I believe any of that garbage that'll be the damn day about this. And now you're out there doing what telling stories about dead guys in their garbage and their packages. Really? That's what you're doing. That's the best thing. You have to offer Pete. It's how Big Joe dimaggio's you know what is congratulations? Pete. You cloud. You freak you idiot. How many more books can you write saying the same thing? But again, there's more than willing enough people who are willing to buy this guy's BS by this guy's autograph here. This idiot out until the day that he finally goes away. Please get away from me. Get away from baseball. You're part of the bad thing about the sport. You're part of the bad thing about professional sports. He's never been a good guy. He's never will be a good guy any never will change. And I'm sick and tired of the overall argument of Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame. I don't need to put the guy in the hall of fame. The jackass doesn't want to be in the hall of fame. So why we haven't had the argument, we have the argument because now it's infringed itself upon what we do, because we're getting into summertime and the hall of fame will eventually be here. So should pay rose being the hall of fame eight five five two two, four CBS. It'll be plenty of people go over four thousand heads. Of course, needs to be in the hall of fame. What about on baseball, I shouldn't be in the hall of fame. All right. Gary, an accurate should he be in the hall of fame. All right. Mike in Tupelo Mississippi, should it be in the hall of fame. Okay. Janet in Lexington. Tuck should it be in the hall of fame. It will continue to do that, for a couple of hours. So now it's downtrodden and what my business tries to do, because even though I might have what you call a quote unquote, hot take. At least I try to fake it out and not do something stupid, Pete Rose, whether or not it should be in the hall of fame. No shouldn't be in all, I don't care if he's is in the hall of fame. If you put him in the hall of fame, at least maybe shut up, but of course you wouldn't do that. Because again, it gives it a s x. Accepted speech, and the hall of fame. God knows how many other penises he'll talk about in the acceptance speech. The man is an absolute clown in every way possible. Anymore. More but I kind of want to end right there because I was perfect. Do the other one if it's local to Ohio. The time it took a shower. Jody imagine me thirty years from now. Trying to hold on any shred of dignity. What time I was at a CYO a charity, basketball game and Jim Rovan, Iran, the show, love tell you about Jim magin. I can't Joe he still has family that Joe DiMaggio has family that respects Joe. Dimaggio had fifty six game hitting streaks Joe DiMaggio had eight fifty six game hitting streak Joe. Dimaggio was a hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio with someone who has looked up to an emulated Italian American hero in here. We are years later. Well, let me tell you about my book the time. I played four and a half holes. Yeah. How'd you do one par one bogey made a massive apar- three actually two bogeys apartment, a massive apart three? And then I crush the drive on my last hole, and I skulled the approach shot from ninety five yards and I said to Mark at seven fifty four, let's pick it up and get into Ducros till I watched the second time I put it Karm. He's a talker. Never see up the second hole. I hit a nice dry but ended up in a little pug, Birkdale, get relief from that get relief. Thanks. Like if it wasn't going to give he was doing a radio show. Of course, I take the whole thing that's special play was Merck carrying his own bag. No, no. We were on a cart. I wish I could carry my own bag. But no, you can't drive in the cargo more than him time I call from carrying my own bag. A very I don't know what that means. Good. What do you think about that? Joe maggio. Taxi amount that yesterday, the P rose story. Oh my God. Mike francesa show. I mean is that an all time high texted these guys back? We're not believe he got Marilyn Monroe. You know, I mean degrees, car. Many was famous D'amoto. Yeah, yeah. But don't you was married to Maryland central while said, well, you hear the stories you ever hear Joan rivers story about him? No. Same thing. Like water bottle. Yeah. We were talking about that with Jeff Carlin by Tom Brady. Yeah. I heard yesterday. Think about that with Tom Brady. I mean it's per, he's got the supermodel wife. He's like the best quarterback Athere a such a good looking guy got everything. And like you're telling me now Joe DiMaggio fifty-six games you're talking about Frank Sinatra one of the greatest ever, and then they've got that going for them to an embarrassment of riches. It just goes to show you life's not fair, fair. Was that? Johnny Janis lost than what we're talking about. If anyone is just Google. Pete rose. Mike francesa Jody Maggio story, and you Johnny. Did you not play golf today? I did not. I, I was up at five thirty this morning. Getting in some calisthenics really drew. Yeah. He's doing burdens probably the greatest single exercise of you run in Gaspar's afterward. No gases whatsoever in deep lunges always liked to find myself in the deep lunch. She does doin do saw the weather and I saw the weather was not going to be pretty early on. And of course, was going to be wet and I'm quite tired and fatigue of being golf courses that are saturated. And so it's been miserable. Do kids still do? The jumping Jack is the jumping jacks considered a calisthenic do it. I think. Yeah. I think in high school or. Yeah. It's working everything. I it's homeless the perfect exercise. He jump a little bit. You get the rotation of the arms in there. Your full range of motion is what you're looking for you. Get the hips involved and you don't have to be a great athlete to do it. So you don't expose yourself. Injury. Purpose in all seriousness. That is, well, that's mountain climbers, therapies among keeps the hip saw all loosened up there with the synovium fluid. Nah, I don't know about the synovium I promise you can look it up. That's what you need. That oils. Your joints. It's exactly. Joe dimaggio. Yes, he did. It's like it's like it's, it's, it's a lubricant lubricant for your joints, down there. I'm not so sure. Can I can I give a round of applause to your co two the good kid that what? And a whistle. Whistle kid, I was I was stuck traffic was pretty good. But when you get to the Ohio feta ramp, sometimes no, the ones from the top to the bottom just walls, traffic nonstop. Bumper to bumper. And then there was your co finally talking some common sense into the equation that there's Michael Jordan anniversary of when he switched hands in game two Congo stadium. The ninety one NBA finals that, that is an over that was an overrated highlight. And your go was the one to talk because you're usually goes apple of what everyone thinks, but you're was the one to talk sense into cap in Danny and anyone who has that take the overrated. Well, first of all, we're the hell is it rated? It was it was the exclamation point was the bulls first ever or swan finals win. They never wanna game in the NBA finals Carmen. All right. Eighteen thousand six seventy six going crazy. The blown out the Lakers, Michael switches, hands. The, the roof was going to blow off of the place. It was the pasty fibia, right. Johnny throwing your rating Jordan's greatest moments. Whether him him with a shot against the Cavs or the six game against the jazz or winning on Father's Day against the Sonics or driving for fifty five against the sun's a winning game, one of an NBA final shot with the jumper like I could go on and on. No one rates that shot as his greatest shot to begin with. So for something to be overrated s to be highly rated. It is a symbolic moment in bulls history that we just celebrate because it was cool. And it was said it was an artist performance. Right. It was a Picasso that was yesterday. Size banks, she after he does work. You don't you just let them in work, Dr J underneath the basket in front of Jeff Landsberg Bob. Sorry, Mark Landsberg and that you know what? That's probably he probably had more important shots in his career. But that's one of those Picasso moments. Well listen you call yourself. There's, there's a hundred Jordan highlights to me that are like more memorable and better. I don't write the look faking one way going the other way. Dunking on Patrick Ewing. Madison Square Garden. Yes or call. Say if I'm putting together my greatest Jordan moments we lived through a Carmen. We know it. So how could it be overrated? Isn't it kind of overrated then because like they get what you're saying. You might think that it's like his greatest highlight. And it's it's like it's not his most athletic and picturesque play. But I mean it was the highlight of that game in that day. I mean it was just into wing. You finally after losing it home to the Lakers. And with the Chicago look, we didn't have a lot of championships back in nineteen Ninety-one. We the bears basically. Right. And then, like, are the bowls gonna lose the magic finally we get all this way we beat the pistons. And then on our home core. Jordan shot. Rattles out at the end of one. So, finally, like we're on their this. The bulls are blowing them out, and Michael goes down, what looks to be a dunk over Sam Perkins. And Perkins is going to block it. So he switches hands and the place I was there Karm the place is going crazy. It's one of the loudest moments I've ever heard at the Chicago Stadium. So it's the exclamation point on their first ever of something on the bulls. Franchise history. That's a big moment. He just took his pants off again. This is a very good kid. Today. It happens more than you realize it's a little overrated. But, but anything could be overrated. Like people say, the godfathers over came in there and after I made my impassioned speech about it. He comes in from the golf course he sits down. Here's the last like twenty seconds of it, and then he comes on and basically just. Gave me the guillotine right across the neck, Eric Williams. I felt like what would they tell the dragon when, when it was time to burn? Somebody is. Yeah. That's what I felt like karma. Just did he told the dragon behind me Makarios and I was sitting here and ashes car. Came thrones. Which, she commands the dragons, I think she says Carias and the dragons, light everything they say are man, and I give myself I was gonna say, and then you go. Club and. The drafter apple. Bala drakkar. You're still put on car to are still we're Johnson's baby powder in the polo Cologne. Oh, what a combo that is. You got that, right. Spoke his mind. I think it's a little overrated. Jio this stuff. Okay. Okay. Yes. I'll show them all Jordan's great highlights. I've got ultimate Jordan on DVD. I need to. You'll have a DVD player. That's the thing I don't know where the helmet play got one of my house. If you want, these sharp player home, she's got one China gave a beta machine player in a basement. I don't think it's usable but I think I had short for films for NFL sitting there as my highlight tapes from high school were all on beta. They're all. I used to call that a cowboy remote to excuse me cowboy remote, the remediate have there would give you slow revert all that. It was on one thing, the handle hooked up to the machine, and you can do whatever you want with it. When you're watching NFL. That's right. And by the way, also day. Dalton NFL films. A lot of the, you know, the television stuff was all on Betamax early, right? Early VHS then beat it out. Right. Remember laser disc. Yeah. Album. Blu. Ray, who had Blu Ray who's got Blu Ray Blu. Ray DVD player is a blue play everything on blurry. An xbox. No. Yeah. Yeah. But I just see my wife and I try and trying to upload something on the computer for this form that we have to send in for our youngest daughter going on this trip. We looked like the two two two Muppets sitting up in the balcony talking to each other had no idea. Just wanted the piece of paper to sign back upload that really. No, I go home tonight, and try to figure it all you put a virtual signature at stopping making my head hurt four Waddell. Drives me crazy. You know. And it's not as crazy as that crazy stuff, man. I'll what's wrong then. Well, listen, I American cash. But when you've got kids all over the country, and you're here in van Mohan there you the next thing. Out or hundred dollars and I couldn't get out of my phone. I'm slamming it against the table. How do I get the four hundred? Phone says it's there. You have received four hundred dollars. Gonna please. What happened? I just cashed out some money at express fat. Okay. What happens when you cash out at express, or your TV, or the one, you do your, your day send you a check? Exactly hard is that it's the same thing, I've never cashed, the check for TV really put in a thousand four hundred and eighty eight dollars in better. Start winning down five twelve took some of my winnings for my Debbie hit my country house. Yeah. I said, check I love some ended. I took some out hit you for taxes. They did not take any taxes. Are they supposed to midnight yet now probably not enough? What they don't take that. You have to report it, though. They'll, they'll send it to be taxable in the horse racing industry. Six hundred six hundred times the bet it was. It was it wasn't six hundred times the bet. So there you go. So don't worry about right. So if you make a one dollar bet you win six hundred dollars. Now, you've, you have a tax liability. If you went six fifty. You've got so that's why Carney years ago. Do you wanna go with us to Jeff Carlin net flicks week from today? Honestly, let me find a sitter for my wife's out of town for work for a few. Let me get a sitter. I will do that. And I will let you know, but yes, put me down. Sons we're going to babysit us all garland. He said we signed in charge of the list by the weekend. And yes, I mean, I feel like like a kid again, back in the bar when he gave me his phone number, that was sort of a big moment from imagine what you had to. Finally, get a phone number. I would not connect those. Can I have your number? Yeah. And so, I would think maybe like you get your first autograph hanging around Wrigley, and Ron Santo comes over and says, can I sign that for you? Was never an autograph gone ever ever. I've never been a memorabilia guy, nor an audit. I like taking picture with somebody. Turn this year lasts forever. Yeah. I down as a. Yes. I'm gonna make sure it happens anything new on the Kimbrell front here, guys. He's starting to get that one thing we feeling well, there's nothing to do with kimbrel. "He said, look if that's not your style. Go somewhere else. Go play. Listen spellings, you show up at east Lansing, and all of a sudden you realize that Tommaso will get after you and a game right now. Again, there's there's a threshold. There's there's you know, there's a line that you don't cross choking a player the way Bobby Knight did is not acceptable. I get that. There's a difference. Didn't someone have a hole in one versus a home run question based on Cole hamels in his interview today. Someone had a hole in a real hole and run one that no one sees versus an illegitimate hole in one. I don't know how you'd hit an illegitimate home in holy. I don't know how you do. See a homerun hole in one. Now, why don't find giving you the choice because I thought of this one based on that probably that I read you get one one glorious last moment you can find out to hit a home run. Like call hamels did yesterday in a preseason game exhibition game. Hold on one time with your buddies. And you had a hole in one. Really, you wouldn't want us to see what it feels like in a major league game to get a hold of one around the base. It's not like you're in the masters. I'm not giving you masters hole in one. I'm saying with your body's. No, I'd rather have the whole in one. Wow. Yeah. It's so it's tradition that you have to buy everybody around, right? Yes. Yeah. Everybody that's in the club at that time. Yes. Drinks here on you. Someone also asked would you rather have Joe dimaggio's fifty six game hit streak or Cal Ripken JR. Junior's consecutive games played record..

"Not even worse rival for say a bad word of. I totally agree. Yes. And in this year, they're ROY than other sports players getting, you know, criminal trouble and everything like that. I think the writers just voted because it's such a feel good story. Well, the only thing I say about that is. So you're telling me that what is come down to is personality off the field. That matters not performance on the field is that we'll win because I've seen people who have tried to justify one hundred percent saying well, he's the best player. No. He's not. He's not the best player all time. I mean does anybody think Barry? Remember, you're telling me you're gonna pick one player to start baseball. You pick the first now. No. So so so he being the one hundred percent guy to me. Is to me something that is almost unexplainable. I don't have an explanation for it. Now. You're right. Everybody likes them. But you think you think the writers didn't like Mickey Mantle Hayden Mickey Mantle. Williams. We know they hated Ted Williams. But I never got the idea that the right is hated Joe DiMaggio. A lot of them. A lot of a lot of them. Worship them hero worship de eighty. He got eighty percent of the vote. How is that humanly possible? He was Joe DiMaggio. You're that it was done in. Well, you're right it, it's changed. There's no question. But what I'm saying is I don't put a value next to the number. I don't look at the number and say, okay, Marianne was hundred means he's the greatest player of all time. I don't I don't look at it. That way, though, do I I think Ken Griffey was the greatest because he got ninety nine percent. I never thought Ken Griffey was the greatest player of all time. Now, the good guy. Kept himself clean. And I think really probably what it is more than anything else is in his era. When some guys didn't keep themselves clean. They did. And never warning them for doing that. That's the only thing I can give you. And. I wasn't around for the Jackie Robinson vote. But Jackie Robinson, getting seventy seven percent of the vote. Pretty outrageous. Joe in Atlantic highlands. What's up Joe? Hey, good afternoon. Mike. Yeah. Kind of tickets to a couple of things that you're saying. I mean, there's no doubt about it. That personal bias does get in a way of all fame vote. And I think that the discount that previous caller talking about race be initiative. Mike was nineteen sixty two. When Robinson was elected me. So twenty five percent of twenty five right? In my mouth. But I'm saying let's not be naive to think that didn't didn't factor. And let's not be naive to think that somebody might have had a personal vendetta against somebody. Like Joe DiMaggio who is known to be a little bit terse. I think that's a problem with the hall of fame. I don't agree with it. I think it's horrible. I think it should have been. So you had people today saying that the one hundred percent means that Marianne was the best player. I don't buy that. No. But I think that he is the best player at his position, Mike. I think that's a given. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. So you think so what do you think he's the best player at his position? I understand was that me, and he's the best relief pitcher walls on you agree with that. But he's a relief pitcher, and no I wouldn't start. He's pitcher. He's a pitcher. You gotta remember that. He's a relief pitcher. Absolutely. But at is given position best of all time as you better than Babe Ruth, absolutely up. Then then you can't tell me that the number is indicative of performance because if it is then Babe Ruth would not get ninety five percent. That's my only point the number is not indicative of performance, the number is indicative of Wim. I like the guy. So I'm putting them I'm voting for. I like the guy he's classy. So I'm voting for definitely classic. They don't come any class in the Mariana over and I have no problem with the number. But I don't what I'm telling you is I don't take the number as being an in any way, an indicator of performance. I don't look at the number in that way. That's my point. And she the one hundred percent which people like always going to get a hundred. I don't think one hundred percent was if you've got ninety eight nine point eight hundred a kid. Eric Massa, Eric. Hey, mike. I I agree with what you're saying about one hundred percent. But my whole issue with the whole thing is it's more that the writers in the past. Then a disservice to certain guys that should have been a guaranteed hundred percent, Ken Griffey junior should have been one hundred percent Rivera should be one hundred percent because he was great. There was no doubt. He's a hall of Famer guys like obviously Mickey Mantle while those guys the writers are the ones who fail those guys like not doing it. One hundred percent. I think there should be more value to that Rivera did get one hundred percent. He's not the greatest baseball player every is nowhere near it. But for what he is. He's a hundred percent hall of Famer. And I just think it's it's wrong that guys like Christie from my childhood and all that. Didn't get it. When anyone who watched him play knows? He was a lock hall of Famer hunger. Percent. I don't disagree with that. Now, the only point I was making is that I don't look at the hundred percent as any in any way indicative of being in any way based on performance. That's my point. But what do you mean like performance for performance? Yeah. Number is. Closer. But he's a released pitcher. But that's a position in baseball. Yeah, understand. So let me ask you something. I let you pick. You start a team right now. What are you taking Marianne? What number and you're picking helmet? How many players are you going to draft before you? Honestly, probably hundreds. But no, no, no, no, no, no. Now, you just now you win the way to for Jeff hundreds, but you're going to draft a handful you're going to fill out your team before you take your relief pitcher. Now, you might say I'm gonna take my relief pitcher before I take my started that might be your preference. That's fine. Now have you telling me I'm building a team to win a series? Am I gonna take sandy Koufax Mary? I take sandy callback. Because you know, what you're never gonna get married. Sandy koufax. He's never going to be a factor in the game. I sit in the bench sit there and watch. Pitch. The team is not going to get the game. Unless you wanna bring him in with what he's behind. Sandy's unforgivable any runs. That's the point sandy got eighty six percent of the vote. You wanna say it's because he's Jewish. Right. I mean, my point is. I don't. Point is I don't think the hundred is that. I didn't think it was big when Griffey got I never even bat an eye. And of Marianna got ninety nine point two. So be it. Some local had kept them off someone. Now, can I explain how Jodi eighty eight percent vote? No, I can't I can't find I can't tell you. How you could tell me you're gonna analyze career and not put him in the hall of fame. I'm sorry. I can't look at that career. Mickey mantles career and say, I'm not put them in the hall of fame of Sandies or what the Johnson Johnson. Got something like eighty six percent of voting as I also Johnson. Four hundred ten shutouts. Mike in Half Moon. What's up, Mike? Mike. How are you? The hall of fame is give me crazy for the last twenty years on the interpretations are so wide open here and people were voting in sports writers, don't you think ex player should be the ones voting because listen, it's it's it's it's always been there. Remember there was a time. And that's that with the writers is going to change. You know, why? Because it's not enough papers anymore. The world's changing. So the bottom line is it will change because the baseball writers had their sport went back. So many years to a time when the print guys controlled the media baseball has lived in that era longer than the other sports. The other sports changed more to broadcasting being powerful before baseball did which is just baseball. It's been slower, but baseball going to do it to most of the guys now who vote don't work on conventional newspapers. And a lot of them might only have podcast now. I mean, that's how the world is changed. So they. A lot of these guys who who is what's right? Is there all on the radio and TV now, we'll do it podcast because that's where it can make money. The world has changed. There's not a lot of newspapers they're paying anybody. Anything? Has changed. But he I can talk for hours. I'm like who should be who should be in. But once you have these sports report once they spilt sports writers once until they stop these guys from voting we've got these controversies one of the biggest travel. I mean, unless you didn't have this human nature, human nature is always gonna come into it. Some kind of some kind of bias is always gonna come into it unless you're going to have robots vote because otherwise the unless you gotta do what a computer you're gonna how someone is treated. Okay. If there's a guy who was on a deadline. And this guy wouldn't talk to him and told him to get go blank himself. He's never voting for that guy that guy made his life difficult that day. He's never voting for that guy. And that's all. Albuque- a perfect example of that earlier today. Listen to BUSTER. All right. You're talking about Fred McGriff. No, Mike mcgraff is not a hall of fame is not a hall of Famer the buzzer only said today was his last year of eligibility. Ten years tonight. He said that the the the players the older players that committee is probably going to elect him and stuff like that. Which Kennedy that committee does nothing but a disservice to the people who vote I because all it does all it does is put their friends in. Absolutely. But yeah, you were talking earlier about like Joe DiMaggio. Get get one hundred percent. All these other great players. Jackie Robinson, the other guy was kinda right about that. When you have sports writers. I mean, these guys are stands two teams. Right. They know Babe Ruth, for example, he oh he's gonna again in the hall of fame. So a couple of guys aren't going to vote for him and accurate even worse. Always somebody think wasn't gonna get into all of them. Actually a couple of weeks ago sneaks about month ago. Steve Somers, outta mind. He was I can't remember. Yeah. So they ousted the guy that put pressure on them. So the guy didn't vote. I mean, the guy just should have stuck to his guns. If he had a thing he just should've stuck. There was guns. So was he has a right to vote anyway wants to vote doesn't have to be right? License away because he voted certain way. Here's a right to vote. Anyway, wants what would have guys who voted who didn't vote for Joe module? Accurate. Guys didn't vote for sandy Koufax the accurate, obviously someone pitch. So sandy pitch. How often hall of fame?.

Mike mcgraff baseball Joe DiMaggio Sandy koufax Hayden Mickey Mantle Ken Griffey Jackie Robinson Marianne Babe Ruth Ted Williams Barry Famer Steve Somers Rivera Eric Massa Johnson Johnson Fred McGriff Atlantic highlands Christie Jeff

"It's boomer and geo mornings on the fan. Didn't he didn't go to college in the midwest? Yeah. So somewhere in India make as well from out there from out Joe's, college, it was a nobody ever obscure. Right Oberlin wasn't that. I went to ding Dong. It was good actually for for business. It was it was good. It went out. There is day. Oh, different world out there every type of people really cold midwest cold. It's a little bit different. You know what I mean? Do you know what I mean? Jio six to ten AM on the fan. Sports radio. One zero one nine FM and sports radio sixty six WFAN and WFAN FM, New York radio dot com station. They go to Roberts here in the mid day, by the way, big night tonight. Because James harden is in town. Right. I say tonight. Well, that's going to ask you, what do you want to make the over under because you have the combo of two three tie will tonight for the most consecutive thirty point game. I think he does. But you are the Cobb of three things working even Knicks are terrible. Right. We all know that be James Harden's taking a million shots per game. Right. And see harden has already said how motivated he is to play at Madison Square Garden and put on a show. So when you factor all that together. I think there's a very shot. He dropped six sixty you want to go seventy. Sixty. I think is a good number. Okay. I think I think he's sixty tonight, though, the one concern is I mentioned this to a caller because somebody called me up on Saturday previewing the heart and guarding game. Saying what do you think his question was can you score a hundred? And I said I don't think he's going to score a hundred the one concern is if the rockets are up by huge number if the rockets are up by forty in the third quarter. You're not going to see that same kind of a great hard may not even be on the floor. Right. That's the one concern about James harden. Putting up a a ridiculous number tie. If the game gets out of hand, though, you never know coach dantonio could just say James stay out there, especially against his all team. Tony keeps score get the seventy eighty. If you can't is what I'm confident of Houston a winning game. And they need it. They have not played with a very confident of that. It's very underrated everyone talks about hard and he's doing this. He's doing that. They've lost four of their last six games. They won back to back games. Twenty six and twenty. Yeah, right around there, and they're banged up. I get it. Clint Capellas Chris Paul's banged up yet. So it is the James harden show. But nevertheless, they're not exactly winning all these games. And a lot of them have been at home to mazing. This guy got all these points, and you never get an assist you never gets his assisted on his points. Well because watch him tonight because all the. No, no. I get it. I get it. He gets his his. His shots aren't says mean. Yeah. Toll free number eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Shirley in poughkeepsie leaves it off, Shirley, our you guys. I wanted to talk about the hall of fame, but real quick may. I say go Nick says, you know, I'm a warriors fan, but I hope that they hold hardened twenty-seven as long as he doesn't get to the free throw line. That's the case. They will not win the game, Shirley, so. You don't have to worry about the rockets. You will be the one seed in the west ridge. I know I'm not worried about them. One guy scoring a million points doesn't win basketball games. So so I'm the same thing. I'm wondering when did they start making the announcement public of how people voted I mean, Willie Mays Willie Mays Twenty-three guys didn't vote for him on the first ballot. He actually came in percentage wise, he's below thirteen position players and Chipper Jones that more votes. I mean, that's almost you wanna hear something. Joe dimaggio. Didn't get in. I mean, it's absurd. He didn't even get in on the next ballot. It's ridiculous. So there's so much nonsense that goes into this place. Yeah. It's it's tough to look back at fifty sixty years ago. Look and try to understand what the writers then we're thinking it's tough enough trying to figure out what the writers think now, but to go back sixty seventy years and say Joe DiMaggio, valid high, of course, Antonio in Newburgh Antonio, our you good, boys. Good boys. Listen every day. Thank you. Tony you. Yeah. So I'm a huge diet backs fan growing up love. My favorite player houses guy. Not lock. I mean, he played twenty years twenty sixteen win. You got the comments he made about the transgenders planning to it. I think it's more than that. I think there's a lot of comments that have probably offended riders enough to keep them off their ballot. But I think he's going to get in. He's got sixty percent now. Yes. And I think I think you make a good look at Messina get near and you got to put chilling in. I mean as far as I mean, I think we all agree on that. Yeah. And I think you make a good point about next year. The only real walkers jeeter, right? So that might really open it up for sure I think so I think there's a decent chance jeeter in schilling. Sharing a stage together, which is interesting. I don't think that anything should really impact. Putting a guy in the hall of fame their views. No matter what you think of them. Good bad. Disgusting should not matter. If the guy was a hall of fame pitcher, that's me. That's joe. And I think that is a good chunk of the people that vote it's very difficult to measure like I said before about trying to figure out what riders are thinking. It's tough to measure. For how many people have punished Curt Schilling. But I really think there's something to it. Though. Albert bell is the classic example. But we can't measure it. No. I understand what it is. I understand that. But Curt Schilling was a better pitcher, Mike Mussina. I thought he was more dominant than Mike Mussina at his very best. I think the edge Messina had is that he was more consistent. We mentioned the ballpark's. He pitching the division. He pitched in. But the other thing for Curt Schilling and this should put him over the top outside of Bumgarner the best pitcher in the last twenty five years. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. What would a bunch of different teams? I mean with the Phillies we did it even win the World Series with him. But he was in it with the Phillies with the with the with the Red Sox. No doubt. Here is postseason. Numbers nineteenth starts eleven and two two point two three ERA just the World Series because you know, guys like, Bob Gibson, Christy, Mathewson, all they had was a World Series. Curt Schilling seven starts foreign one two. Oh, sixty are also co MVP in a one with Randy Johnson. That's right. That is correct. So yeah, I mean, he's one of the most dominant post-season pitchers we've ever seen. Kevin west Islip. Kevin. How are you? Hey guys did talk here in a little while. Yeah. With the wall fame, Marianna, Dolly, gray, definitely unanimous. I'm a Yankee fan about disagree with you guys a little bit. I don't know about you seen. I think that I e r Ray I know was a steroid time. But I just think he's the tab dental rate. I think he's kind of a notch below your good one, but doubted great, thanks. Well, look, I mean, I didn't takes Maecenas all famous now. I'm with you guys. I don't have a problem with him being in. But when I do. That I think Maecenas all famous. I did not think he was all fan. That's me. Now, there's there's the few classes, I think when you talk about guys they get in. There's the come on. No doubt about it. Right. Right. There is the borderline. But I think so there's the borderline, but I don't think silent as the no way right to me. Mike Messina's the border line. I don't think. So. But yes, I can never get angry about it. I mean, look he was a was a tremendous pitcher. I mean, look his al-sadis. Okay. If Burt bly eleven is in all things, we can't do that though. But I do you do it. You know what? I mean, if we do it that way everyone's getting in the hall of fame because Harold Baines is there is myth. Is there not every it's a dangerous get well, Bobby a Braves got a case next year. Then my God. No. But I'm saying stage play that game. It is dangerous Robin Yorktown, rob. Hey, guys the morning. I rob. Listen. I guess in my lifetime. We've seen a lot of change in baseball. Just like you guys were talking about. Okay. I mean, we've now seen a man takes one came get a hundred percent of the vote and listen, I'm a big Marianna fan. But like you say the game changes and people are going to get in based. I've had changed. I'll give you one example. I heard on your no not your show, but on the fan over the holidays, which blew me away. Seventy forty AKIs side cafe to pitch the seventy five season that was a big sign right out. Okay. Right. Right. So he pitches a stadium because Yankee Stadium wasn't ready yet you twenty day tremendous tremendous telling me, how many tell me how many complete games did he finish thirty probably probably have many. Thirty. I heard it on. Sorry completely different. That's why we make a big deal of ROY halladay finishing nine caffeine. China was clearly all famous client fish onto to me was one of the great money pitches or you talking about money pitcher. He was money pitcher catfish hunter tremendous. Yeah. The complete game is won. And even go with that anymore. It's one of the extreme changes. I think one of the changes we're gonna see we talk twenty thirty years from now is the bar for pitchers the bar for pictures can be very very different because starting pitchers don't go deep in games. So a clips in two hundred innings. I mean, catfish hunter eclipse three hundred innings three hundred innings now two hundred innings mock. That's right. Two hundred innings the benchmark in guys regularly to three hundred eighty innings back then. Yeah regularly. I think for pitchers we're going to look at things very differently as we're electing guys twenty thirty years from now, wait issues, no beef city or major cause of most health issues, we see in our country, the consequences are deadly. If you're overweight, it's time to make a change and break away from the norm..
