"Should mentally disabled, mentally disabled tormented, mentally handicapped. I always preferred handicap myself. I think it was a perfectly good word. Well, we can't call him the R word that's for sure that really upsets people should mentally handicapped people be required to take the covert vaccine. Why? Why would they be required to? Well, because they can't make their mind up themselves. Somebody would. Well, who's in charge of the mentally handicapped? Do they have caretaker family member of these people that are in a home? Yeah, it depends on the individual. Sometimes candidate depend on the individual, right? Exactly. Okay, well, what about in the case where they're being cared for by the state? I'm betting they're going to get a shot whether they want it or not, Dude, this was a hard video to watch. I just watched a video. Of a bunch of mentally handicapped people in California being cared for by the state. No not being cared for being held down and forced to take a government of a forced Shot injected into their body against their will They hold the woman down. And when I say they I don't just mean like nurses and stuff. There's a cop here. There's a guy wearing in military gear wearing a Kevlar vest. Is she more afraid of needles? Or is she afraid of the government vaccine? Well, who knows, right? I mean, they don't ask her. She's she's a somebody with mentally disabled it. But then he asked. All right, should they all be required to do it? Apparently, they are so the L. A Sheriff's department. There's this video. Something they call operate required one day to Kenny, and you're not hardly mentally handicapped in all compared to her. Well, there's there's hardly at all There's I know it's okay, I get it. I get why you said, Well, you know, there's a spectrum. I know I'm on the spectrum. I know. Aren't we all? Oh, I'm absolutely on the spectrum, at least for what is it Asperger's? Especially after watching him play with all the toggle switches in a police car? Yes, Saturday. Oh, that was a good time. Yeah, Yeah. You look like a little kid at Christmas sitting in that thing. Oh, look at this book group Man cooked in attention. Oh, it was fun. And then we would drive past people on bicycles. That was fun. We gave a nice shout out to some of the full share bicycle in crowd. And, uh, you know, not that they're probably not listeners. Good. The people that put them little stretchy pants on and ride bikes out in the middle of the road. Hate us. Probably not listening. But if you know some You know, we're just having a little fun giving you Ah Walton salute cause boy he used to just be aggravated at death by those folks. Well, not to death, but yeah, Yeah, I understand. You understand what I'm saying? I understand he didn't like it at the John Walton Memorial ride. Last weekend. We drove through his old neighborhood way out on the west side of town right past his old house on his road. John had a ranch. He had a big house on a big plot of land right at the edge of the old. You see them longhorns out there. I mean, they wouldn't hears it was at the play. Just down the road from head these I mean, we saw some beautiful country Texas back roads. That's where it's at man, Bluebonnets and longhorns that we're giving us Ah, salute with their with their big horns, waving them at us when we rolled by. I used to think that Longhorns were a little scary, You know, it's like they charge you with those horns ever since we went to Grimes County Sheriff's House. You got to play with this long horse. We were so naive. I thought that a Longhorn was like a bowl. And if you got too close to it, it might get you with the work. Well, some still could. You should still keep believing that. Well, apparently from what we're told. They just run away from you. If you get near him, the ones he had did Yeah. Yeah, but we saw one of the rodeo and Billy had went over and grabbed a What was it? Grab the horn, I guess is what you call it didn't care for it. Yeah, he did not, like got madder than the cow or the bull or whatever the people that were showing him well, Yeah, because it was their bowl there there. Yeah, they wrote over. Told you not to touch, you know? Yeah, I know. But while we were on the John want Memorial right last weekend, we kept going Basque people in little bicycles. And you know, we're in big hardly used stuff. And I'm in a big cop truck, So I bust out the mega thon. Oh, yeah. Hey, Nice bike, Nerd Bird. I did that about five times and then I thought, Man I know it's getting old, but it makes me laugh every time join it. And it was a way to you know, and then have them a final message from mold J Dub how he would have loved it. And then I wondered if I was gonna get Joe Diana in trouble. Because I was in his truck, so don't get in trouble. Joe gives trouble. Well, that's true. Yeah, absolutely. Well, I hope you didn't get in any trouble, but we had a great time. You know what else we had fun this weekend? Is not watching the Oscars. Not not away. If not a moment. No, didn't we've seen a couple of clips and I'm so glad I didn't watch. Yeah, it is basically a show for themselves now. Yeah. Nobody watches us the actors or just patting themselves. You know each other on the back and saying you're great. Oh, you're great. We're all great. So now really the only people that watch it the family members, I guess of all these great people. Yeah, Here's a promo of some of what you must. It's the annual Shut up awards.

"This is all of it we just heard from Joe Diana vulture about how quickly might affect the streaming wars and whether it's poised to be successful business wise let's talk content now Spencer court abre a staff writer for the Atlantic covers pop culture music joins us to give us his take and lest you think this is a commercial for quickly I'm going to read the title of Spencer's most recent piece about it the title is quickly is a vast wasteland hi Spencer hi hi so besides the fact that every episode is really short not exceeding ten minutes what is lost and what is gained creatively by having the episodes be short I think there's a lot of promise and having short of that I feel General Electric could withstand the five three have been trending shorter and serve during this pandemic I've almost felt like my man it could be gone I can't really make it one if you paid a lot Buck I have a hard time with our long echo trauma stuff like that so I would kind of prime for something to hit that spot sort of adult attention spans we gave them but could be it does not seem like a really figure out what you clicking by by having sort of a third a lot of the programming it just feels like old school network TV that is chopped up and maybe set up a little bit but without really I crap or what the credibility of this sort of format what is a ThinkCentre sings I watched a bunch of it is I can see how you know in in the news and documentary form it's kind of interesting I'm not sure how to your point how it works for long form white would be quote unquote better yeah I mean you would sort of match it would push along for drama to be a little more difficult a little morning faith or why I'm very kind of half and half the give you all of cliffhangers and really hurt you can quickly and drive a truck along with you know a lot of different ideas but there I I was so surprised at the third lagi the other thing and and and profound exposition that that a lot of the scripted programming pad and I don't know if that was the clear choice or just that they are working with people from all over he could have stopped practically how do you feel about the idea that you can watch either horizontally or vertically did that do anything for you to change your viewing experience as somebody who watches a lot of content what kind of love it maybe for the novelty factor but it looked it was the show's kind of really good article format or you just it's usually just have like one character and frame and sometimes our customer call and forget that the horizontal and then I would push the horizontal and if you like what I wanted I think that with all the other information the that when you see what's on either side of the character but I thought that was pretty clever the way they did it from you when you look at the particle image that would be between and you would sort of be the background of all the calls that and I thought it was for whatever reason that really I think it does work and you know when you're sitting around that are are you know once on the ramp to come somewhere maybe not your if you move your phone around if that isn't something that happens often forget to watch one way and then you turn your follow button that name is such a thing you cannot at this account for that and I thought it was at the track my guest is Spencer corn Haber staff writer at the Atlantic we're talking about his recent piece queen bee is a vast wasteland okay so what's an example of of a waste that you feel like wait just could have been good or what why'd you do this guys why'd why'd you why are you subjecting us to this could be programming artist yeah I mean it to me it it it yeah a data forty factor is so egregious and I'm really indictment of of our you know our obsession with celebrities but I think that might you know we have often heard such such as leverage because every show kind of revolve around some sort of star and they tend to be stars who are a little over exposure or just very out on such me already you have to like fifty he can who is a delightful person on social media but I'm not like eating to see more if you get I don't need to see her and in that judge's robe kind of joking with her family members and her husband and doing the sort of low six under written somewhere where yeah this is like not a lot of effort into and that's sort of that that the charcoal lot of slavery has Reese Witherspoon nature documentaries are kind of like it's like a cute I had to have refocused and giving a refund as nervous and said what the G. that they're doing on the Savannah but it's sort of not much to be on back seat of the you never got any real definite and yeah this is sort of a future yup yup I show with a mentalist who works with celebrities and basically plays magic trick on celebrity is that where you're like okay that's that's fine I guess that the tamale that pumped for that old glass you could share and T. V. show where he plays pranks on other celebrities that as a result of a chance the rapper it's it you know and it even quicker format it seems even more like a hollow and and and pointless you do we lose Spencer sounds like we lost dispensers line I can see that the slacks and emails are flying because we're having some really serious technical difficulties this is all of it on W. NYC Hey Matt can you go to some music for second while we while we figure this out he's been back answer of human right now thank you so much let's reestablish it Spencer corn ever staff writer at the Atlantic we're talking about the content on equity so I follow up on your idea about the the celebrity factor of just being a little bit heavy handed and I guess I've been kind there because I I was watching some of the docks and some of the docks we have one of the directors on after it it's really it's really good it's actually sort of classic documentary form and then these other docs for example the rock lebron James says Dr when he's producing about the school he started which is a wonderful enterprise but it felt a little infomercial E. I mean what's the level of journalism is it just that is there a I guess it's body the German journalism yeah I think you're absolutely right the word I wrote down with advertorial you with the lebron James talking and it's totally right that the the third like amazing story to spotlight but if it's done in the flavor that just kind of talking in general terms about how great after it was in and it took awhile for it to pull up a specific stories or or drought conflict that felt at like every create intrigue are at all we give you the real story even even something like there that show that around the track being part of a larger the lack of a track race a few years ago possible art is like a really interesting answer on guard figure and she has this cabaret act that bring a lot of really interesting drag queens but it was just filmed and presented the Serb god the it's a promotional way that I'd that you that the emphasis wasn't really even on the art of more people talking about how great it is that they have this forum and I don't know if that I don't know why you wouldn't try to at least make it more entertaining I'm from purely a cynical campaign if you're not gonna get people around if they feel like they're watching a commercial for the celebrity you mentioned the the sash of war show and the K. and the Reese Witherspoon zero looking at than nature life through that the feminist lands is there still there seem to be some sort of effort to be more inclusive yeah I think that yeah I think that there if you step back and you look at the programming slate there is a star admirable diversity and the kind of programming and the people that are in the event of the kinds of social socially important stories that are in that vehicle a brunch you know you have a number of shows kind around LGBTQ people you have you know wait for the show about sneaker culture which you know and it really doesn't hurt how speakers are tied the aftermarket identity and so I think there is a kind of savvy effort to be on socially conscious and of the moment and that way but at the same time believe it like watching some of the programming it there were times when I was like this feels like a little bit of old school stereotyping and some of the dramas with her it's like how men are presented as strong and stealing and the women are crack I'll and so you you also have the thick with breath of of traditional less socially conscious programming and so it's sort of hard to reconcile wait what they are all going to be as so I'm I'm curious if you think that the you know we were talking with the jury daily and I am about the business model about where it fits into the universe is it a competitor of Hulu and Netflix sort of more of a competitor of tick tock and Snapchat where do you what do you think yeah I mean I think yeah I think I think the point that everything is competing with everything nowadays is really true so you know you'll be watching I quit the show and you'll get a text message from your friend you could you go over you look at the technicians and then stop watching The Cosby Show that's their dilemma that your face over and over again if this show is not riveting you probably are gonna check about that is that we just never won the competition is everything else that's happening on your phone so that could include games in emails and you know your your alarms but more than that yeah I think that when you think about that Sir programming they're making they're like kind of should be watching this section of you watching Netflix every watching HBO should be or should be watching so I think when you want like a dramatic TV experience when you want like a that's sort of feeling of watching a whole story unfold you want but I think the com I don't know why you would turn to Christie over Netflix or any of the other streaming platforms that you have on your TV and you can also get her con and then if we are to funny to think I won with time the number one time waster in the world right now the tech talk it is riveting and ridiculous and I don't see how how many people are gonna pick quickly over to talk this all could change after the pandemic ones were out and go again this show I mean it this is not really a fair time to great could be because it's not what could be intended to be and then not need to be like I'm at home entertainment service other than maybe when you're like lying in bed at the end of night we just wanna kill your left brain cells but in general I think it was just it was not first thing in the grocery store liner you know that way when you're out about the world and you just need it and you know that the commercial emphasizes that you have it the quick by you know that like you're waiting for your reservation at a restaurant you might watch one show we're not doing the things right now so we don't have really the tough case for it for it but like I said there's plenty of other things on your phone to occupy your time and I don't think the people general need in the world for the past decade has been that they don't have enough to entertain you know like we like we have too much to get up and and and the question where we put our attention and this is just throwing other kind of it is option in the mix could be is to be continued Hey Atlantic staff writer Spencer core Huber Spencer thank you so much thank you.

"What's up open for globe? This is Ben Golfer with the Washington Post. I am joined on the other line from Florida. Sunny Beautiful Florida by Michael Pena of espy nation. Michael you're just getting your hemingway on down there. What's going on man? Yeah that's exactly right just Got My toes in the sand out here in Santa Bella Island. My first time my My wife has been going here coming here. Ever since she was a little girl so She decided to finally Bring me along. And it's it's beautiful on Levin. How are the locals treating you because obviously they have heard about you Michael? She's been going their whole life. They've got the whole aura of Michael Pena. Have you been warmly received of? I'm warmly received wherever I go. I feel like I don't ruffle feathers. So I mean there's been lines and lines of autograph seekers but besides that it's been it's been good. That's good I warmly received wherever I go was one of those statements. That could go either way. It could absolutely be true and it could absolutely be false. We'll never know Michael. We've got a few things that just kind of catch up on from this week in the NBA. You know. Of course we had the big kind of showdown matchup between Lebron James Williamson here in Los Angeles. Which got a lot of hype? A lot of attention. They both play very well. Lebron had a season high. And I think he's I on his own as well. But we also had another showdown out east between the Milwaukee Bucks And the Toronto Raptors and needless to say Milwaukee handled its business. I mean worked. Toronto late in that game setting up all sorts of questions about all right. Well where's this going for them Does their barges continue to keep rising? So we're GONNA dig into both of those topics and then of course we're going to handle a bunch of hilarious emails that we got from the open floor. Globe and they emailed US Open floor. Male gmail.com open floor male edgy dot com. But let's start with Lebron versus I on just the absolute lowest possible hanging fruit. It's an orange tree for you out there in Florida Michael. What did you think of their showdown? What was your major takeaway from how they looked on the court? And and maybe even the post game interviews to Yeah I mean I was super pumped about this game as any NBA. Fan should be. And I mean my immediate takeaway. I have to And I'll just like tie them both to Lebron Zion. Which is what everyone wants to talk about I feel like Lebron's performance was just just epic I may and that was that was old school back to the basket bully ball. He had jrue holiday on him. Pretty much all four quarters and he got whatever he wanted on him. I mean he finished with forty obviously and he had the three ball going and he would punish the PELICANS defense whenever they would screw up a switch or they would they kept going under the screen on them which I mean he was probably not too impressed by but I just I love when Lebron is just I mean. Do you remember like years ago earlier in his career when I was like. Oh when Will Lebron get a post game? It's like we are so past that and like he was finishing with the laughed. He was finishing with the baby hooks drying fouls. I mean he had everything going and I felt pretty bad for jrue holiday by the end of it. So real quick my take on that is I mean this came twenty four hours after Diana Terachi arguably the greatest women's player of all time went on stage in front of millions of people and said he didn't have a turnaround jumper and I believe she was joking but she also just really zinged him and it was. I mean it opened my eyes when she said that Kinda using him as the punchline to say well John has got to turn around and Lebron barely has one. I felt like Lebron was like. Yeah that's like the cool Joe Diana but by the way. I have a turnaround jumper and I can deport. Whenever I want. And you're right to bring up the years of criticism of that part of his game. We should also look at this season. They've had a lot of struggles in clutch moments Where the offense just has not worked where Lebron spent out front you know and maybe tired legs heavy legs lading games. He's actually settled for three pointers off the dribble a lot earlier in the season and it really hasn't worked that well. There's a reason why everybody's going. Under his Co. the screens because he hasn't shot the three ball great especially in collect situations. So I do think it's part of a concerted effort from the Lakers. To rethink what. They're trying to do when they really need a bucket right when they really need somewhere else to go and I think that their conclusion as well. Let's put Lebron in the post. Especially if he's against an undersized defender and good things will happen. We saw it against Jaylen Brown on that Sunday night game against Boston were hit space. Like the the turnaround game winner and we see it over and over against drew holiday You know in that match up to one hundred percent agree with everything you just said. I mean pivoting. Real quick design on and his performance. I mean obviously he gets the line. Nineteen Times scores. Twenty nine points. I was just fascinated by how he there were sequences where he just bullied. Anthony Davis and the contrasting features. There are just so fascinating. One you have the second heaviest guy in the league super explosive. And then you have a guy who will probably win or finish second in defensive player of the year. Anthony Davis and I mean they guarded each other and I would say Zion got the better of ad on the night for the most part. And I mean there was one sequence where he was a Zion was a roll man and You know he just likes speed bursted past ad who had really good position as the roll man defender dropped coverage and he met him at the rim. And it didn't matter. Zion made the layup and had his fair share of Mrs in those confrontations. But it just goes to show like this is one of the best defenders in the world and everybody knows what Zion is going to do. He does not have the mid range jump shot besides his debut he's really match shooting three pointers at all and he still gets to the basket and finishes. It's it's so remarkable like once. He actually figures out how to play. He's going to be. Just such an unstoppable basketball player. I mean this is against Anthony Davis. It's insane no question. I mean it was kind of shades of that preseason matchup with Gobert right where. He's just like yeah. I mean I understand that your long really talented experienced and smart. But I'm going right at your chest. I'm trying to get to the rim every single time and good luck to you sir. You know what I mean. That's sort of his mentality at. All Times Zion. You mentioned him getting to the free. Throw line maybe. My favorite exchange of the whole game was he used that quick spin rip through move to beat Dwight Howard in back to back. Quick secession and the second time he did it as he was walking towards the baseline after getting the foul call for the second time in a row he just goes every time. He tells one of his teammates that I could hear him say that and I felt like a member of his family like every time to is sitting there like the third row. Because it's true like what was he supposed to do to stop them? It's not like he can Badgley become quicker and guests ions moves and I think when goes from zero to sixty in those bursts very unpredictable. Guys just aren't used to it yet. They don't know exactly which direction he's going to go and it's almost like slithery in his own way. I mean going back to the body types thing for him and Anthony Davis. Wouldn't you love to be there when the Taylor is taking their measurements for their pants? I mean they've got to be a lot different. You know they're not wearing the same size Let's put it that way. I mean they really are contrasting body types and that's what's so fun about watching zone in person and on TV too. I I really do think translates On television he moves in a different way and Everyone it's always all eyes on him. I mean I thought Lebron had all eyes on him to at times during that game when he was breaking out in transition or he was trying to go basically from the free throw line extended to the rim is just like everybody's kind of reduced to being gawkers at this point of his career. No speaking of Gawker so I watch that game. I'm down here in Florida with some family and my sister-in-law's boyfriend this year. And he's from the Netherlands and he has lived there his whole life like an hour south of Amsterdam and he knows absolutely nothing about the NBA. Like he barely knows who. Lebron is like go. If that's true just go ahead and keep talking trash about right now. Just lay it on thick boy. You're really throwing this poor guy under the bus in front of thousands thousands of listeners. Right now. No He's he's the best the best But so we're watching. I'm like I'm like sit down here. We have this like one hundred twenty inch gigantic. Tv In our hotel room here and so we'RE SITTING DOWN ON CARE. Watch where WE'RE WATCHING. Bucks Raptors. That wraps up. I'm explaining to him. Who Jaanus is Blah Blah Blah and? I'm like don't even worry about what just happened. That was all cool. But you're about to watch Zion Williamson like this is just a transcendent freak of nature. And I'm just watching him. Watch Zion and he's just like what is this is a human being. What is what is happening. I don't even understand. He's like this is the second heaviest guy in the league. How does he move like that? Like are they studying his body or scientists putting them in the lab like it was it was? It was really funny just to watch someone who has no idea. Even hooves I on his didn't know he existed and to respond the way he did. It's like how I respond but I'm familiar with Zion. If that makes any sense of I with you and Ev-. Every time I watch him. It's like those viral videos where they give the kids who. I can't see very well new glasses and all of a sudden they just like break out in tears because they can see again. That's me literally. Every time I watched I played basketball So and it's not just me like I was saying the players but the pre-game seen fifty plus people on the Baseline Waiting for Zion to basically go through like half speed warm-ups post-game probably the largest post game media contingent for a road team at a Lakers game. That I can remember. I mean I was basically sprinting. Michael Johnson to get from Lebrons post game back to because you know in that situation. It's like you can't choose right like you gotta try to do both Zions already taking his time with the post game apparently he works out after games because of course he works out after Games. And that's delaying everything for forty five minutes or so and yet people stayed around and asked a million. Lebron questions. This is one thing I want to dig into..

But we also had another showdown out east between the Milwaukee Bucks And the Toronto Raptors and needless to say Milwaukee handled its business worked. Yeah that's like the cool Joe Diana but by the way I have a turnaround jumper and I d boyer whenever I want and you're right to bring up the years of criticism of that part of his game. I mean obviously he gets the line nineteen times scores. Twenty nine points fascinated by how he there were sequences where he just bullied. If that makes any sense of with you and ev-. Every time I watch him it's like those viral videos where they give the kids who I can't see very well new glasses and all of a sudden they just like break out in tears because they can see again. Michael Johnson to get from Lebrons post game back to because you know in that situation..
