"joe castiglione" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"In terms of how it originates, where did this so I understand there's money involved and all this sort of thing. In this player's left Florida over it and that sort of thing. But where does the money originate? Does it originate with the player, does it originate with the university? No. The university technically is not involved, although that's open for open for debate. It's really there are a couple of ways it goes. I mean, it can be, it can be an individual business. If you own a view in an insurance company and you want the quarterback to do commercials for you, then that's between you and him, like any other business deal. It can be done through what's called collectives. This is really a gray area here. These are essentially booster groups that are paying. So it kind of just goes with the player, in other words. Well, the player, if you go back to the genesis of NIL, which obviously everyone knows means name image and likeness, that's an individual relationship between a player and another entity and so he has I mean, there are anyone who does and then IL deal with a player is required to correspond with the university, I think, to let them know what they are doing. And so we'll talk about okay, not trying to interrupt, but it's not necessarily the university saying we can give you NIL deals if you come here. In theory, Tim, the university is prohibited from doing that. Okay, okay. I got you. I got you. Okay. I don't believe that. And. Well, you know, it's funny. I played division one athletics years ago, but this is all so new to me. And I just thought, you know, I just needed a better explanation. And that helps some. And I thought it would go back to when you played. It's not a whole lot different. Then there was no point in the 80s. So back then, I'm pretty familiar with that era. You were recruited and the coach could not say to you, hey, listen, I know you're a great player. We'd like to help you get a car. He said, listen, you know, he would have somebody else booster contact you. Yes. Yeah, yeah. But we were also told, we thought a lot of places and when we played, we were told, hey, you wear a coat and a tie. Right. And you do this and you do that. And here's your meal money for the weekend. And you got represent the university. That's the way it was. I never forget being in a locker room in college, and I saw the guy handing out the meal money. And I saw one player get more than the other, and I asked somebody about it and he said, well, he had a much better game. Yeah, well, that's, you know, as my dad and grandfather would tell me, that's life. So of course, but I was on to this earlier. That's really, I can tell you another really funny story about some college I'll do that in another show, but anyway, my next, I don't want to keep your time up, but my next question is on the spinal rankings college football rankings, not that it means really the only thing that means anything is who finished number one, which is Georgia. Okay. We all get that. But how does Tennessee fall behind Alabama when they beat Alabama and then Tennessee also beat they narrowly beat Alabama and then they beat LSU like a drum who LSU beat Alabama and then Tennessee went on to be Clemson who was ranked in the top ten at the time. How do they finish behind Alabama in the final rankings? Well, here's how. Because Tennessee because of the loss to South Carolina, fell below Alabama in the CFP poll, and to Nick Saban's credit or discredit, he was able to create a perception in the media's mind that Alabama belonged in the playoffs and Josh eifel never bothered with that. So I think Alabama's place was cemented ahead of Tennessee and I certainly understand your argument and I've heard it from many other people in the state. Thank you for the call. Do appreciate it. And I hope you'll call again. Colton is up next in Oklahoma. Hello, Carlton. Hey, how's it going, Paul? We are doing well. I would call this year OU, they failed. Way beyond my patients. And I was wondering if you think that that's a Lincoln Riley result or a Brent venable poor coach and resolve. I think it's a transition. And I mean, I was shocked as you were a couple of the games, especially the Texas game. I felt like OU beat Oklahoma state at the end of the season, didn't they? I'm trying to remember, which I think is a little bit, but I just think venerables walked into a chaotic situation. We're loses a tremendous amount of players in the portal several key ones to USC and the first year can be can be brutal. And I think it was. I will say he needs to, I think he's going to. He's getting some huge players, and I think the quarterback situation is a lot better. And we still don't know whether he'll lose his offensive coordinator or not. But I expect it to be better, but if it's not significantly better, then there will be a reckoning there. Yes, sir, I agree. Oklahoma. I feel Oklahoma should never have a bad season. That's how much I think of that program. And this will be what, 23, this is it, because it goes Oklahoma will be in the SEC in 24. Yes, sir. And that's what I'm worried about. A legitimate concern in Colton Joe castiglione bet big on I'm Brent venables an outstanding coordinator, but somebody who is a mystery as a head coach. Thank you very much. It's a great concern. And maybe answered very quickly. Bubba is in North Carolina. Hello, Baba. Hey, Paul. How are you doing this evening? Bob, we are great. Hey, Randy got a big kick out of Iman's joke, didn't he? Randy liked that one. I didn't hear it. Yeah, I can hear I can hear him, Chaplin. Yeah, I don't approve of that kind of humor about Nick Saban. You perfectly explained it a minute ago. When you say it back in the 80s, the characters conveyed their wishes to the boosters and they conveyed the case with wishes to the players, that's exactly what's happened now. I know how NIL is supposed to work on paper, but you perfectly explain and I just grab on how they need to. I've had countless coaches tell me in the past that they would read the riot act to their player to their coaches. You will get fired if I hear of any allegation that you are paying a player.

"In order right behind the blue Devils two, three, four in the ACC. Who do you trust most long-term right now? Florida state and maybe Virginia tech and that's crazy 'cause we didn't take just off two games in Brooklyn. They did. They were yeah. I don't know. We'll wait and see. Here are the games to know, by the way, on the topic of Virginia tech. On Wednesday, we got a lot of hoops. I singled out these four though. You've got Louisville at Michigan state 7 15, Chris Mack returns to the sideline, his 6 game suspension, which was tied to what parish? He doesn't want to say we're on a live mic, Chris Mack had a 6 game suspension. I'll say, it was tied to extortion. I'm an expert on extortion. He is. So Chris Mack will return. I wish dino would have just called me. I know. Just in a text, I could have talked in through it. We could have got this done together. Well, I could have got 75 grand within three days. No problem. He didn't know. Too many missteps, too many. Louisville is going to play at Michigan state at 7 15 on Wednesday night. That's my most interest. There's plenty of games I want to watch. I'm just most interested to see how Louisville plays with Mac back in the lineup. A good opportunity for both those programs there. And if Louisville could win to be good for them for the ACC, and on the site, we have our ACC Big Ten picks at either have been published or will be published shortly if you're listening to this live and watching on the YouTube stream. I took Louisville to win straight up. You've got Virginia tech at Maryland on ESPN2. So those are going to be side by side games. That's a good little screen situation. You got there, Virginia tech at Maryland. The turps could really use this kind of win. They've got fun upside, but let's see what they do against a good Virginia tech team who's entice spot drop dropped a couple of games here needs to certainly improve itself. Florida at Oklahoma is a game outside this, but Gators looking like top 15 kind of team right now. Undefeated and looked the part of a high seat to this point. They're going to play at Oklahoma Porter Moser. This will be the first high profile game, I guess if you will for the sooner under Porter, we'll see what they can do in that spot. I don't know. We'll have to see. I do like their potential. They're 44th at kenton. They're 6 and one. They have a loss on a neutral to Utah state. They haven't played a top 50 opponent yet, though. We'll see. And I don't even know if Joe castiglione the AD is going to be at this game. Because he's in the middle of trying to find himself a football coach there. So he'll be preoccupied. And then the other game from Wednesday night to know is Michigan and North Carolina, 9 15 on ESPN. And Michigan has not played up to its expectations, North Carolina to a certain degree has now played up to expectations. I don't know what the I don't have the line in front of me or the over under. But Michigan's been disappointing on defense, Carolina has been atrocious at times on defense. So I don't know what the over under. I imagine this over unders fairly high, I'm just guessing, but that'll be a very affirming win for either team that can get it, and then just real quick on Thursday. The only game that I think is of note is a mid major variety, but I think it's quite intriguing. That saint Mary's at Utah state. That's a Thursday tip on CBS Sports Network at 9 o'clock eastern saint Mary's favorite on kempo to win by one point. The gales are 7 and one. The only last they have is the Maui championship game against Wisconsin. So we'll see if they continue the good news for the WCC. Meantime, Utah state has a stud and Justin biehn who has performed like one of the 15 best players in America at this point. We'll see if you can keep that up. You tos stay open with the loss to UC Davis, which by the way lost to an art school in California, a D two or an NAI art school. Utah state has not lost since then. They have a win over Oklahoma, Justin bean right now is shooting 59% from three point range and 71% from two point range. So that is a 9 o'clock Thursday night tip on CBS Sports Network the best game of the day will be on CBS SN saint Mary's at Utah state. Michigan is a two and a half point favorite at North Carolina, the total is one 51. Are you suggesting play the over? I would definitely play the over in that game. That is lower than I would have anticipated. It feels inevitable that that game is going over, yes, for sure. We got some nice 5 star reviews over on the Apple podcast that I tell you about them. You did not. Suggested to the listeners on the previous podcast that if they too were fans of premarital sex that they should go leave a 5 star review over at Apple podcast so that we could offset some of the one star reviews from people who are anti premarital sex. Like there's more of us than there are of them. And we need that to be reflected in the review. You can act like this is controversial. We're in the majority here. Most people love premarital sex, all right? This isn't some wild on wildly unpopular opinion. Most people love premarital sex. But it's just like everything else, right? Loud minority yelling and putting one star reviews on. So I ask people to do a favor. If you like premarital sex..

What is it that you enjoy so much about working with people who haven't really proven themselves onscreen yet. I love it man. Like i feel like I wouldn't necessarily cast them or take them on. If i didn't feel like it was inside them. Already you know and i think you compare that to an athlete. But just had like ron natural talent and ability and to be able to like shape and mold bat Is really exciting to me. So i like anybody i can. I do feel like. I have to see something in them and And then and really it down to This this notion of of hard work. Like i think a big part of what i see in them as if i feel like they're gonna work hard and try to get it right and and when i when i find somebody who's coach cultural that's just like that's just fun because you're just taking what they're you know. Natural abilities are and you're helping them hone it and and they're and they're thirsty to get that like to they want that kind of You know Attention and and you know. I'm a teacher by trade really i mean. I have a a master's in education. So like i really feel like that's just me like teaching in a different capacity. Did you have to teach john sina to use the funnel on blocker over. I mean I never laughed harder than it was like three in the morning and i i was just shouting jokes at john cena while he was bent over with hundreds of extras. Yeah that's not. A johnson is not a man who's afraid to get naked in front of people like he. He's totally comfortable like having his pants down. But i was just yelling jokes at him and i started laughing so hard. 'cause i was like i went to college and i'm just yelling like john. Tina about how this bundled up but you know it was just really ridiculous. There's tells you about the chrome working with on this show. Okay as soon as i brought up the sina bunch funnel. Tj looked over goes. That was my question was going to be a k. Kannan joins the show one of seven. You had to get an a college scholarship in track in order to go to college correct. Yeah i mean there's four of us in college at the same time so You know all four of us had to get scholarships field before school and we all stayed in state to get some financial aid so And we all did it You know my my. I come from a really athletic family and in an academic family as well so Whether it was an athletic scholarship or an academic scholarship like all of us manage to to make it through i. It's incredible and it's so cool to hear filmmaker and your position have such a great affinity for sports. And then you know you're able to switch gears and do something like cinderella as well which is coming out on amazon a totally different interpretation of cinderella. I don't. I would imagine not too many sports references pop up in it but tell me about the experience making the movie this one. I mean this experience will be unlike any other. I i'll ever make You know in in the future because we were about four weeks into shooting when we've got shut down for the pandemic and then about five months the day we went back and we had finished and shot the last eight weeks and So all really went through something you know and And i was so grateful to have the work and and you know when when the world was shut down and there were no live performances. I every day. Like i was seeing amazing live performances. And it'd be you know and actually There is a little bit of sport in it. there's not fort references about like Nicholas team plays the prince. He was a visit great rugby player. And he's like like again like casting..

"Have that kind of impact. I feel like he's just been this wonder kid. Ever since he of burst on the scene and he was working with washington and then he came over and youngest head coach. Ever and i think he just kind of had the keys right away and everyone you ultimate trust into this kid you go all in on the number one pick you move heaven and earth to get jared goff you extend his contract you sign him and then mcvay one days maybe we can get a little better with staffer. Okay we gotta move everything right. Yeah not a lot of coaches. Have that kind of influence or sway over their organizations. There's only a handful. Really have that power in their hands to be okay. I want this now and the organization completely completely pivots into a different direction. And that's kind of what the rams and not too many coaches could also have that influence over their organization and make sense having a ocean view table at nobu because mcveigh crushes tuna cones. You know what. I mean right. I don't think there's anything mcvay dozen. That's true well said we are going to get k kannan next. She's gonna pop in and and and chat and talk a little picture. Perfect which i know is a A special film to this show so we'll get into it next with k. It's been lines on the richeisenshow. First up with jane lynch celebrity true or false true or false. Your first onscreen credit was in the judge. Reinhold fredge savage classic vice versa in nineteen eighty eight. I would say that's true. You played ms lindstrom. Yes indeed yes. How did you get hooked up with this Judge reinhold fridge savage. Well i was living in chicago and they shot it in chicago fred. Savage actually was a kid living in chicago and it was part that they were local local higher as they call it. And so i read i did a pre read with the casting person and then you i read for the director and the writers and they were all british and it was a huge deal. I got into a major motion picture and so how how much further along were you with the being a chicago resident in the chicago classic. The fugitive next that was that was another movie that came through probably four years later four years later when i was a local higher for that one as well. Yeah that is the most in my mind re watchable movie the fugitive it. Does it hold up or what. It does that trainwreck. Train wreck at the top. For sure nitsa remote dropped from me. All the time does no matter where it is but you know we we. We are such huge fans of the film huge We wanted a on behalf of the fans film. Thank you for catching the switching of samples deliver samples that you are welcomed are ninety. Wow you've found you know that. I'm so glad you remember that detail because that's i would say to people you don't remember. I'm the one who did deliver samp. You did deliver bones. Of course god you remember everything telling you. I've seen this moving a million times. And wasn't they relationship between harrison. Ford and tommy lee jones. Quite wonderful amazing. Yeah i love. Tommy lee jones character. Obviously they did another movie out of it but yeah harrison. Ford perhaps the most beat up movie star of all time. He gets his while he does his own stunts too. I mean that's his own damn fault is Did you do your own stunts. I did stunts idell. I actually handle deliver samples with fingers as ungloved. Ask why you're successful. You are jane. you don't leave any stone on turn. Thank you so much. I go the extra mile. Thank you for your hard work. Without which devlin macgregor could perhaps be in business. Still today dr nichols doing his nefarious. Dis and dr kimball being jails to jail. If it weren't for me. And i forget my characters name kathy wallin if it weren't kathy ligo you see it comes back to you. It does on this day in one thousand nine hundred ninety three the fugitives hit theaters. Ben lyons in rich on the rich eisen show and no rich loves that movie. I think we all love that movie under percent the one our man. Dr richard kimball city of chicago. Remember seeing that film and being so spooked so scared that your life could get taken away from you if you didn't do terrific film. Timely jones won the oscar for that movie. One of those movies. Brockman you were chatting yesterday. I think that'd be a good play in eugene on broadway and he'd come out there and have on broadway terrific terrific with movies that i that i love and say i wonder if you'd be a good stage. Rendition of that field of dreams play three. Oh god if you build it. They will come and be amazing. I mean so. It's kind of on the nose Pitch perfect musical. That's kind of obvious. I would imagine that had gone pitched to the woman who has written that. I would imagine that the writer has gotten a pitch. Has anyone pits you k canning on pitch. Perfect the musical. Yes they have. Have you said yes. I would do it in a you. Know a hot second but I think it's like you know when. I think we were talking about it. Like pitch three had just come out and they want to wait until the right time but and right now it doesn't feel like the right time. You know what i mean. I get it get it again. Kay cannon joins. The show writer director as the upcoming cinderella on amazon prime. But i bring a pitch perfect k. One because you know. I love that movie too because here in the rich eisen studios. That has all this memorabilia. All these photographs and sports chachis. There's a pitch perfect two poster hanging up in the corner. And it's because you got the green bay packers to perform cappella. And that's because you're a diehard bears fan right that's right. Trolling the packers. In your own movie. That tells you everything we need to know about your phantom. What was that like to direct those guys so right for seen for those guys in pitch perfect do well to right they would. They were there such fans. They knew all the choreography to the finale of Pitch perfect and they. I guess they would do the choreography. like on the road and they would watch would watch the movie on the road But i i love they. They were open doing anything so writing for them was was really fun and then also i would stop myself and be like. Oh my gosh i cannot believe. I'm writing for them like that. They're that they were open to doing whatever and all the different jokes that and then i saw them the first time. I met them at the premiere. Actually in the when we were like Before going in. And i ran up to them and and thanked them for doing the movie. And then i was like. I'm a bears fan And they They were like get out of here. Get outta here lady. How deep is that. Bears love going. No chicago. sports are thing we've talked about it a lot over the years. But what are some of your memories over the years connected to the bears. And how deep does fm go Well you know i. How can it like recently. I've i've Relaxed a little bit just because like the song. So you're good company but but for me like the eighty five eighty six championships team is like. I think i was like ten years old. And i'm one of seven kids and You know my mom and dad and everything we would..

"They thought they were being smart. T kind of breaking the bank but like it just didn't work out for carson wentz and jared goff and sometimes that does happen but i don't think that's the case josh allen. I think he's the real deal. So then what's worse than signing them too early realizing ooh we made a mistake or waiting too late going. This cost us a little bit. More eagle question. It's a really good question. I think when you look at the rams and eagles case by case. I think they did it the right way. You go early you. Don't you set the standard. But you do it in a way that. If it doesn't work out on the field you can get out of it. And the rams rape and the eagles were both able to get out of it and i think they would both prefer their quarterback situation now to having who they had been lines rich on the rich eisen. Show breaking news. Josh allen signing a mega out in buffalo i dunno i kinda go the other way i think when i if you wait a little longer and it costs you a few extra dollars. You'd figure it out some money around and you'll make it happen and then you know and you know that that's the guy there's no this we're gonna give you big boy money but we're still holding our breath. I think that's a dangerous place to be in. They know it's undeniable. That josh allen deserves this type of year. Oh and is earned it and we'll also continue to play at that level. It's not just the contract on services rendered. He's obviously got a bright future in front of him. If i'm buffalo. There's no question that this is my guy you can wrap your arms around him. As a franchise fans love. Did we ever get that feeling here in los angeles jared goff where it was undeniable. He's our guy. We went to super bowl. I get it. But it's different. So i i think i'm going with tj on this one. The idea of let's wait a little longer. Make sure sure that they're and they say a little extra because guys how many times throughout your careers have you thought that was the one turns out certain factors come into play light sobriety to realize. Maybe that's not the max extension. We're looking to benicia your question about the rams. It's like i still don't feel like los angeles is truly a football town yet like i you know you. Can you have these diehard lakers and dodgers fans and i just don't feel like you have that same following for the rams in the chargers that stadium down down the road here which you guys will. We'll get to know. Well obviously palling around with rich. I think once that stadium gets rockin whether it's twice a week or once a week. I think football in l. a. will continue to grow at least nfl football. It's a great high school. football town. Dog makes it a great pop warner football town again in every single room Also it's a great. Yeah college football town. But you're right. The nfl thing hasn't quite kicked on here because there's so many transplants guys like us who come from different parts of the country teams but are there teams in los angeles. Rams teams in los angeles definitely art. Because it's ram stadium giant stadium in new york. So-fi also stadium you. When you talk about jared goff specifically i think a lot of people thought like he was just mcveigh's kind of puppet just doing whatever he said. Something like. sean mcveigh was kind of steering him. And cut a directing him in a way. Because that guy rips mckerrow mcveigh's the man and i think when mcvay soured on gough everyone was like all right time to move on from like like. Let's find an actual quarterback. Now if you look back on the mcvay era here in los angeles was he given the keys to the maserati. Like right out of the gate or did was it. That first year when they went ten and six after the the jones year that he said okay. He's really an offensive genius. Grew because like you said if he feels like whichever way mcvay sways just the entire organization moves in that direction and not a lot of coccia..

Your quarterback has gone a little hollywood to. I don't know if that's if you just do what your quarterback does no. No no i mean i just. It's just so fun to see you guys. In the in this movie going sleeveless mule went black suits and this was at a choice of clay. Matthews to go sleeveless. Did he do that or did. Was that an idea they were though. Yeah go figure love chances doing curls and our trailer he was because donald got out before the camera he was big in the show them off so because he knew there would be a figurative gun. Show he's prior to the shoot in the trailer doing some last minute of hockey just to get it all going. The spray tan was probably the best tall. We've got some pictures. Are you concerned that You're going to be accused of bio teammates. Going holly of of singing and in a in a hollywood movie charles. I mean they're just going to bring up just as more of a joke yet again. It was max handelman. Who said this or was it. Max as elizabeth banks who said this. I'd love to senior face when you found out it really wasn't elizabeth banks really phone and i looked like this name. Looks really the million. I looked to almost like one point. Three million. I like thirteen thousand at the time. I was just really no one right. And i am not anyone's fault me and then i clicked. Oh wow this is directing to just came up like well. There's only one reason why would follow me is because of these tweets about pitch perfect go wiles. Would you fall. Why not so thank you go. I had no idea that that. "And we are back and Glad you are with us here on a busy busy afternoon. Logan is up next. Hey logan abe all going. Today we are doing great thank you. Let's put. i'm sorry. I missed the old ball coach. I heard that was a good interview. I'm surprised he took time off golf course to get with you today. But i'm glad not to go back to the podcast where he wanted to plug his new restaurant. That was the overriding reason So that makes sense okay. I get it now I was just going away in a couple of days ago. You had a guest on talking about meteorites. cf pay and i had an opinion on nat He said it would be bad for a college football if one network got all of the The sec and the cit. I disagree hardly with that because number one. Look at the competition to usps abc ito. You know how i feel about cbs. I mean they are ridiculous. It's almost unwatchable. I listen to you go. i'm you sound And fox is is unwatchable. I mean they got much of washed-up players from what notre dame and usc. I'm surprised they don't have to read on their. he might actually be an analyst or no but I think it'd be better if we kept it all one network and i really don't like idea that going somewhere like amazon. Some i don't wanna have to subscribe to something else to get the playoffs. So i know that you know a lot of people. Say what's monopoly. It's bad for business. But i would rather keep it with the you know the network that knows how to do it the best. Espn abc right now. Yeah having i think this anti espn rhetoric will will calm down. It's always easy. Just to blame the biggest and the baddest and i i think would pay people fail to realize is what. Espn has done and continues to do for college football. I mean they're not getting it for free and by the way it's not like that's the only thing espn does espn does monday night. Football in in in in in. Nfl they do baseball do basketball. I mean they do everything to But they just happened to do college football better. There's a tremendous investment. And i'm not here to be a television critic and fox has some talented people but their commitment to college. Football doesn't compare and they can kick cream. all they want and feldman was on earlier and i. It's not like espn just came in and stole the sec deal that they paid a fortune for it. Exactly i mean everybody was cbo. Let's quit criticizing. Espn cbs is the one that That that balked. And i don't wanna get into that because there's a lot of reasons why why the sec moved on from cbs. They're well known at cbs. Hey thanks for the call. Joe is up next in texas Hello joe go right ahead how are you. We are great. Thank you for calling you bet. grew up in oklahoma lifelong sooner fan. And now live in tyler. Texas homework girl campbell. You bet i'll tell you. I'm gonna tell you something paul. The fan base. The fans were so excited. Being in the sec. I'm i'm gonna tell you that from a life. Long of sixty nine grew up in a pan sooner. Fan of texas kinda rough but We get by. And i wanna i wanna bring up something but being tipping point with. Oh you I think this is kind of being a little bit. And it really highlighted the tipping point for. Ou was snubbed by fox not putting the nebraska gang on prime time It was the first year celebration gain century so to speak absolutely joe cast castiglione had worked higher shortly trying to get that game on in prime time i know. Nebraska doesn't have much much of a team right now but still just the pomp and circumstance of the game the history of the game so for when he didn't get the he didn't give fox to move that game and he went to bowl. Spey both be told him. Well that's the contract. We signed. And i laugh point when i read that joe see is very cool customer. You don't wanna take him off. And i think that was a real tipping point You know joe. I agree with you i. I don't know a joe castiglione well but people that that do will argue that. He's as good of athletic. Director is in college athletics and and that was foolish fox. I don't know what i don't know. What their prime can't time game is that day. I could look it up in a second but it doesn't matter If you're if you understand anything about college football and obviously the people that run fox missed this Notation that is one of the biggest games in the history of the sport and it may not be competitive but cares well and the other thank call is. They have been put. Oh you at eleven o'clock for their crime gang slot texas anybody else play because that box lot fettes time slot 'cause it was the first in the morning shirt and you know that's no. That's no way to treat people tailgating for trying to get the the economy going there norman I can't guarantee you. You don't see many alabama games at eleven o'clock you sure don't and that's why you really think. They had been snubbed all these years with box and they saw the. Hey the opportunity. Is there especially. But i think that kick point again which eleven am nebraska mentioned. That does because not all the critics out there to Just blame sankey and blame. Espn and honest conversations. Espn here And i do think are part of all this. But i heard joe say that the other day i heard the president of oklahoma say that and i think there's a lot to that i think i think there is now there was probably dialogue before that sure but i'm thinking that man back was the tipping point. Joe made him furious and he said okay. Texas if you talk to the fcc. We're we're ready to go whenever you are now talking about them a little bit. We are fourteen against texas in two thousand when they beat us is because they bring your a game and we're reading are fresh clippings and they physicality get physical with us. They just in the mouth early to run by the way fox also has the organ ohio state game early. I mean they're just anyway well another hour ago..

"Listen to all your podcast really looking forward to getting rid of this call really looking forward to talking to dean blevins for those who go way back He was great athlete in the state of oklahoma in a number of sports especially football and basketball. He played at the university on a couple of national championship. And and i guess it was big eight championships and has gone onto a legendary career Doing so much in in the media most notable in in the oklahoma city market On television and also the host of the weekly bob stoops and now lincoln riley show dean. I feel like new. You great to have you on the program. And how are you paul. I'm doing very very well. I feel like. I know. Youtube because I told your producer when he called that I would bet that. I was the first oklahoma to hear paul finebaum in on radio and Been with the ever since and and enjoyed every bit of it. Maybe more the than even you. Well thank you. I can do without me as long as we had the caller already. We've had a few from austin which we'll get to in a minute. But i just want to get your reaction because you're at the epicenter there of ou and oklahoma state and just Since this news broke a week ago at about right this moment You know what have you heard from people. And and what do you think somebody who not only played there. But but he's been such a part of of that state's history well. I was one who had said previously that Oklahoma would never join the sec. And we can talk about a million issues but the fact that the fcc has so many really good teams I was concerned about the competitiveness of getting into the conference. But bob stoops terrific job. Did okay against the sec. To but lincoln. Riley is come in. And i expected him to recruit better therefore oklahoma improve. Paul he's put together a string of quarterbacks now and into the future better just the best in the country and he's an offensive my. He's just brilliant but he's offensively especially and he's been able to get a defense. That was kind of embarrassing when they came down and played in some of the playoff games in back those my alabama pals down there that When i had no chance to play because of that and in two years alex gray has turned him into a good defense. And we're gonna find out how good but but they are very very good. So my point is worried about that. Competitiveness and hill is going to be a thing job. But i have faith and know enough to to say that i think oklahoma is going to recruit much better and the competitive part of it is going to play itself out just fine so that was my biggest thing. Hey the the one thing that jumped out from the beginning thing. I don't know about you but the only thing more surprising than the story itself was the fact that both schools have all this work to past year. But it wasn't until as you said seven days ago. The story leaked out roll record. You know we live in an era when there's as much leaking in sports in politics and we find out about nick sabin maybe double bogeying number twelve at that. He wasn't played indian hills when he Before he's off on thirteen we find out all these things. But it's gonna be really good for oklahoma. And i think it'll be good for the sec dean on that subject. And i know some people have taken swings at it already. But but since you're so ingrained in history and know the people that matter can you can you give us a better understanding of what triggered you along with texas to to finally say enough is enough with the big twelve well Two things i think. Oklahoma has forward thinkers really smart people from coaches to joseph joe castiglione to the new president joe harris And they're always all your remember. Oklahoma jumped out there with aggressive scheduling before. Most people So i think that's part of it always looking to improve take on temper games etc and the ultimate. Respect the sec. But clearly the trigger was when not too long ago This big twelve contacted it's part. Tv partners fox espn said. Hey let's let's begin to go situations and it wasn't necessarily in different Response from them. It was something that just turned oklahoma and texas off completely about the upcoming money that it would be slashed and moving forward. It would become so much less and it's been pretty good but it was become so much less than the three hundred million the sec. Got the deal from That it was time to really get serious when you start talking about multi millions You know in the conference in two billion dollar deals Money talks and they listen talking to deemed lebanon to Not only played at ou but Has been just such fixture on that scene for for so long Dean help us with this. And i know you have a lot of friends all over College football but now we're already experiencing some things that we're we are unfamiliar with here. It's like dealing with a foreign entity. And what i mean by that or texas fans can you give us all a primer on how to get along with the longhorns. Well i get along with some individuals. I don't think the guy to really ask the way you phrased that Texas is you know forget football. Everything's bigger in texas already. And then you throw in the early success that they had there. Certainly darrell loyal They got the train rolling and it hasn't slowed down despite the fact that they haven't won very much recently But i tell you paul They can they can be obnoxious but not like sooner fans can either but but there's just more on an arrogant side. I would say that I was at the big club media days. I was one who thought that. Tom hohmann with wind. Texas texas is back type thing. But after and i know a lot about sark and i know people who know him so i wasn't surprised but after being down there and being around him and listening to his players. Talk about The fact that They now it sounded like they didn't trust herman. There's all their trust in this guy who's coming in with brings and nick sabin background and i. They're already recruiting really well. I think texas is going to be back berry berry sin. David would like just to kind of get a overview of this year because And i know it always starts with alabama but man a lot of people..

And you don't like it and you don't like it right. Is that what it is you little pip. Not that guy guy. i've watched the whole clip. He was ready to beat the fuck out of that guy. His posture was impeccable. For an old guy. Yes so i don't like he's got some stiff competition this year but as a newcomer in the field of being an alpha on the internet. That's a strong showing from not that guy yes We have wiley coyote. Fur basically winning lebron james spacium to the team on his back he did. He scored three hundred points in that third quarter. And then finally we have our beloved jake marsh For his best in the office speech drum roll. I reached out to mark miller the bills. Fan the dallas is going down guy. He did not get back to us so he was going to present it but drum. Roll please billy. Drum roll and the winner is the best in the office. Jake martin i please. Each really means a lot. I wouldn't have the opportunity to have this unless you guys gave me the platform. So it's a team award. It's not just about me So are you. are you thinking. Hang such for being so bad at ping pong now hangs not bad at ping pong. If you hadn't beat them then you would never gotten this award. it's true. yeah you know. I mean obviously it's probably yes but did you know you were an alpha before that moment like did you. Did you know. I was just playing the game. And sometimes the emotions come out alpha. Try to win but like it. Your career has forever changed. From that moment you are the alpha guy. We'll see what would you say was more of an alpha move doing the. I'm the best in the office on the best one here or the step over. Actually that questions for hank step over was was entirely districts. Really how the officers like of initial emotions like you're just relieved to win the game. That happens but the step over was just completely unnecessary. Yeah totally totally alpha other word for. It really isn't trying to help them. A great a great a great year for alpha good job. Yeah this next award. It's one that we've done every single year. Part my take yup with the take. It's a very sacred award and we've got a great cast the nominees. It is the live of the year award live of the year award. The nominees are chris long. he's he won it. How many. I think chris has won it three time. Okay to way where when when they bring out the mops at a basketball game to say people always take pictures and they're like oh shit. I know that chris long is scored going. He's a world famous lit libman. So chris long is nominated again. He's almost like the meryl streep it really wouldn't be a category. They didn't have chris long The second nominee is billy football. Ooh offer graduating from a liberal arts college this year and for getting the vaccine and forgetting the vaccine is also nominated such that. Billy's actually told us that we have to mention yep that he got the vaccine because he doesn't want people think he's anti he got johnson and johnson. Yeah also nominees cole beasley cole. Beasley nominated for lib of the year ward for refusing to take the trump vaccine also nominated. Dan woken just a outstanding year in the field of liberalism. He's shouldn't be playing sports. Yeah no he thinks He doesn't think that sports should ever exist. He thinks at balls every ball should be deflated. in america dan will personally approves of it. And then dr anthony. Falcone linear created corona virus. He invented it in a lab. Yes he's actually from wuhan and if you don't get to listen to the whole show it's probably because the rest of it was taken down after this Not we could definitely not put this up as click on twitter or all right Do we have. We do not have a guest. Wait jake i think jake jake laverty go alpha. Just he one alpha and he walked right out. he wouldn't say a word and went to go eat. Billy's chicken what the fuck was he go seriously. That was the most alpha thing he's ever done all right. I'll do an ad real quick before we get to. Everyone wants to know who ran year. That's insane that he did that to us. All right By the time. Jake gets back. Hopefully we will have the answer to.
