"Didn't get it, but they had every reason to be upset and kissed that. I was walking into their house because what I represented and it was really nothing more than that. It was almost like a a I. Don't Know How dad handle this, but I know that I handled my own situation a lot better than he did, and and I understand now why I got those looks because it's just an awful. Situation for those six kids go fuck just happened in my life. My Dad's gone now got a new young wife. Got A kid, and that also coincided. That'll shut up. Imagine how they feel about you now. Though because you're so successful, make all this money in your face. It's it's gotten. It's gotten better, but I'm not close to them I. My dad died note to really talk to relate any of six, except for one may be a couple of times and I, my sister and I always yearned spray relationship at least brothers and sisters that we never add, and I understand it now. Better is is my point in all that, but yeah I I can't go into all that on a daily basis, because like you said people know my dad, and in the town I live in. He walks on water, and his revered has got his face on the outfield wall. To them outside which stadium I'm not gonNA. Take Swipes, and he doesn't deserve for me. But it's got. It's got to feel like you gotTA. Not Not Bite your tongue but like. But like times be like. People like I on the right way to say like I feel like I. Get to die I get to dictate. My Dad's narrative whenever I say about my dad being. Difficult or even if I decided to share a story, I can punch it up and my dad's got no fucking recourse. Will ever know I'm GonNa win in a different situation that like my real dad. You know my bill has by the way and I say I. Yeah I actually and I know you. Have you have a kind of a strain relation with the real dad? I actually was thinking about it today and I I know I shouldn't, but I feel bad for him because I go. People write a narrative about him without even knowing him now. So I mean this. So deep and all this, but yes now I have compassionate for is a lot of compassion for him and and pure forgiveness ran to just based on his upbringing in his dad leading when he was five years old middle of the night. You know and so he had no real shot. My Dad sort of laughed and it was a good time, and then he bailed Kerr, and so I had some tools I wanted figure my shit out back in the fifties. He was just what it was. I don't know how he could have how he could have done better in a way. You know but we are. Relationship is on the men right now. Because of a stupid joke. I made on instagram. I said happy abandonment day with a picture of him take. Better time it blew the fuck up and it actually started Itala between the two of us and things are all right, but as far as talking shit. It's less talking. Shit does not afraid to say whatever I feel about my real father. You know what I mean like. If he can't handle that well, that's his problem. You know what I mean, but with Kurt. He's my damn. You're right. I'M NOT GONNA. Say things about curt that I want to sort of get off my chest in a public arena I mean there's no reason for it because it's exactly what said. Yeah I had a I had a girl, the clap in college and And I and I would lighter up. especially I felt really vindictive like. On podcast I? Just going I. got the clap. I got this girl and say her name. On my God was. Obviously I had not gotten. Life. Basically emotionally, oh, all of it! It was like the second person I check I've ever had sex with, and then it happened and I was like I just was, and it happened. WHO's? So bad, it was like so bad and the clap media. Committee. Yeah, and so and then one day I was laying in bed and I went. I bet she has recollections of of how I treated her like how I was. That aren't so fond. And everyone's got their own story. And I go you know I'm GonNa stop saying. I I was like. What the fuck is wrong with me. But it's. It's interesting that you probably think There is so much you can say about your Oliver. Your your biological father, the he really has no leg to stand on recycling. I really fucked up. Yeah Yeah I. Mean Look Lee again. We've talked it out. He has issues. You know I where he was coming from his well. Though you know I may not to say that he should have done what he did. He should've stepped up honestly and been more of a man, but you know comes into my life among encouraged of this great relationship. You know we're we're. We're sort of Nice little family and he just felt like he couldn't spitted that basically. To then sort of move away, but the problem is. It wasn't just him sort of saying. You know what I can't deal with it and then disappears by the way he lived in Malibu I twenty five minutes from me, but the problem was is that he went on the offense. was in Vanity Fair and going on inside edition and just. Off All of Shit about my mother that was not true. You know because I was living and that's why became as bad as. You know so, but it's good now we're staying in. We've had some great meetings. Drank drank twelve beers together. The other day like cried, and it's been cool mean at forty three years old you're you. I'm finding a relationship father. It's nice. What was it like an asking? Obviously in such a small respect, but I'm recognizable and you could argue famous, but. I don't I. Wonder What it's like from children's perspective from my daughter's like what was it like having a famous parent? Were like getting recognized and seeing them. People take ownership of a moment that you were having with them, and then you losing that moment. You had that experience? I hated it I. Mean I'll. I'll go first I. drove drove me crazy like I remember kid sitting at dinner tables stuff people coming up, you know and just me no being disrespectful at some points, but even when they were I just felt anger, you know. Fuck away and I mean it was a real visceral sort of feeling for me, so it was it was interesting. And of course we therapy all the crazy shit. You know I think you feel like these people are taking a piece of your parents in a way. You know they're taking their attention away from you and there's so much going on. These people drove me drove me. Nuts. See I've seen both sides of it and now I understand why Oliver Sift addicting. People come up to him at it dinners. I grew up again. Minds on a smaller level by MOM on by I wasn't sitting at a table, Kurt Russell. I was there with Jack Bach was the sports in Saint Louis and did a lot of national.

"For the Green Bay packers on Jail San Francisco devante atoms hundred sixty receiving yards most by a packers player in a playoff game as called by the one and only only Joe Bach. Who is getting set along with Aikman to call his sixth Super Bowl? Two weeks after calling the Nash the NFC championship game on Fox. This coming Sunday between the packers and the forty niners. I think I've covered all Joe Right. Did I cover all about it what I can add to any of that. Thanks for coming on then Joe. That's all I John on forty just next to you. Get what you pay for a while done very very well. I I do I'm just trying to take care of my chick and by that you mean actual livestock though right you now. I live in Saint. Louis we all well That's what we all have talking around it back just taking care of the chicken. Hey Joe I guess here's here's the here's here's my way to to to determine it It sure looked like the packers took care of their chicken yesterday against the seahawks. Don't you think you have. It did Doc I you know I. It was kind of a return to form. I think for Aaron Rodgers on some level I mean I I know that he would bristle at that and a meter. He is tired of hearing about him having a down year in fact when we talked to him he was rather I don't WanNa say defiant but quick to you point out that they were thirteen and three number two seed in their overlooked and under appreciated. And they're gonNA sneak up on people and then they went out and did it and I thought Aaron Rodgers made some of the typical great Aaron Rodgers throws that he makes on third down and that was really the story of the game. third-down down one it for Green Bay. They won that little mini battle and he made some great grows especially the last two that counted one do Davante Adams on the sideline and and one to Jimmy Graham with a questionable spot but a first down nonetheless and the game was over. And that's what the great ones do. And that's what he did and you know having spoken to so many players in all the years that you have covered the NFL With with Fox. Know that you you come across a bunch of first ballot hall of Famers who will use. Nobody believes in us. Mantra and you do sit there and roll your eyes like wh what are you talking about. Brady just a couple of years ago going to the Super Bowl saying nobody believes in his essentially however you got. I don't blame Rogers for being pissed. The guys thirteen thirteen in three right. This team was one Jacob Hollister reception inch away from being the one seed throughout the entire. NFC playoffs and everybody's everybody's saying that he's kind of an old dog can't learn any new tricks and who's this new first time head coach and yet they're heading off to the NFC championship game. I don't blame them for be bristling right. You know. I agree with that and I've seen just too many times. Aaron Rodgers literally take a game over you know people that you all factor packer fans. Think think that troy and I hate the packers which is ridiculous and we always joke about this but I think the rest of the country gets tired of us just throwing bouquets Aaron Rodgers onto but he's just different and he's been different since he took over in two thousand eight I think he does it. in maybe a little different fashion. Now he doesn't. I use his legs as much but it uses legs to get his body out of the pocket and be able to control it and make a throw from any angle to any part of the field and so oh yeah I've I've I've admired him over the years and I think he's one of the great ones and he is definitely one of those players that uses whatever anybody says As per personal motivation. And you know however it needs to get done He usually get the done. He's been a two time. MVP repeat on a super bowl and there one win away from from going back. And then I read a column Today Getting Ready for the game on Sunday From the coverage of the forty the niners. That acts like the packers shouldn't even show up and Rogers is over the hill and cooked. And I just I just don't see that well. The thirty eight two seven win on Sunday night with the packers coming off a bye week back week. Twelve is probably fuel for that fire. That's probably down and there's good reason why they write it. I just think that you know since that game. And they haven't lost Green Bay and I just don't expect that same kind of game. They were coming off a bye They were off from the beginning. They turn the ball all over right at the start and the game was pretty much finished before it even began i. I just don't see that happening now. I you know. San Francisco's favored by whatever. It is seven points for a reason. They're getting healthy. Finally on the offensive line on the defense. They showed what they could do. They shut down Minnesota. They're they're the top seed and they're the best team in the NFC And they're in that driver's seat but Green Bay will show up. Aaron Rodgers will play a good ballgame. I would be shocked. Shocked if he does. I agree with you on that. I truly cannot wait for that. But you're right. The forty niners what they did that front seven. I mean that front four I got deferred coming up shortly shortly in Nick. Bosa said after the game that he's kind of jealous that he wishes he had the ability to just onsite make people Afraid Like D. Four does And he came back. They're they're they're amazing upfront. Many basically muscle last five games with a bad hamstring Ford and he comes back and kind kind of sets the whole thing out but I I have a feeling that Nick Bosa is being a little bit modest and humble. I'm sure that there are offensive. Linemen that are not. What's real about facing Bosa either? So they're good upfront. They're good in the middle now. They got Alexander back at linebacker. They're good at the secondary Shurmur out or Sherman got what is Third Career post-season pick. I mean in in the safeties are good so I I don't know I mean they are the full meal deal On offense defense special teams is better than it was earlier in the year. That got a kicker. That's been there and done it and Robbie gold so They they are going to be hard to beat. Joe Buck. You're on the rich Eisen show. What's the floor like? I've never spoken him very honest to God. I wouldn't we hang up with him or walk out of a meeting room with them. We all kind of look at each other. Like men he is he. He's not paranoid. And you would think that a first year guy. That's a great lot talking to people. Well you know that are covering the game would be really secretive about what they're cooking up in the back room for that week's opponent and he lays it all out and he's honest and he gives you a real opinion on the way guys are playing and I talked to him about the numbers for for Aaron Rodgers being down and he said yeah well we have to do a better job. AAC calling plays be getting more playmakers because basically it's been three guys. It's been Aaron Rodgers Davante Adams and Aaron Jones and that was pretty much the case yesterday. And we would be remiss if we didn't point out the job that Russell Wilson did because there are times where it's just like him doing when it on his own and that's not too too slight anybody else on that offense but I just don't see anybody able to do what he does and almost single handedly enderle willing his team to get into a position to win. I mean weekend and week out. All he's done is win since coming into the NFL. So I thought he played a tremendous mendes game with a depleted offensive line And you know the running back situation. They lost their top three running backs and they were still in that game. I'm on the road in McColl till the end. I think the guys just a tremendous winner he is. I want to put a pin in Russell. Wilson I second though in return to leflore because the relationship between Rogers and leflore would be should the packers make the super bowl a top five storyline for the week. I mean we will be picking that whole storyline apart part like crazy leading up to your call with troy of that of that game. WH- what have you seen. What have you personally witnessed about this and can actually report? What's real and what's not these? Yeah well I mean for his as honest as Matt Moore has been with us this year. Aaron has always been brutally honest over the years with us You know I I know that he he respects entrust troy and and I think he's willing to tell us exactly how feel something's we share some things. We don't Over over the years in with the previous regime and and you know other players that have been there but I I get the sense that he genuinely pleased and happy with the way that his all evolved and I think he almost headed off the questioning at the past with Jumping at us when he started going down that road of so you know. Why aren't the numbers? Typical Aaron Rodgers number numbers. I think he completed sixty two percent of his passes and had that you know down the stretch wasn't that accurate had a rough the game at Detroit but they got the win and that's the most important thing and he just that's why he cuts it off. I think he is happy. And I think he he's at a different stage agent his career and he'd rather win pile up huge stats and I think that's where they are i. I don't think either one told it back at least with us behind closed closed-doors or on a conference call I think they They have a lot of appreciation. Free and now I think the play calling last night was fantastic. Being able to get at the montage atoms and the whole stadium knows that. That's the guy that Rogers looking for singled up in an open Really throughout the entire game and on that big author download it bad as the most on that final drive so then. What's the postscript on the seahawks for two thousand and nine thousand nine hundred because it is so tough to transition from championship years here and then build another one there? Same quarterback same guy in the middle of the defense essentially. Same Guy in the headset. And that's about it. What's what's the postscript on this team Trying to get to the final four. Well I just think that they've had a tough time with their offensive line even when they were rolling It had a lot of moving parts they had you know. They lost their center this year. they lost Ethan Post For the majority of the year on I r They lost their top three running backs. If they get healthy there they still have Russell Wilson. I think it goes back to the offensive line and it's been two straight years of we'll d'isly they're tight end. WHO's a really talented player? In in a guy they love ending the season on I R and defensively. They they have some holes in the secondary can daring They still have Bobby Wagner in K.. J. Right in that that middle level and Bobby Wagner all pro so there there's a lot of pieces there they have really smart good. GM and The young receiver who we haven't even talk about decay Mexican picked it all up fast and his a physical specimen and runs a four three. So there's a lot there to like and you know at tweak here a tweak their I D I don't think he'd get past looking at the offensive line that's gotta get better. The health should be back with the running backs and I think they'll be right back You know looking to get into foul for a year last one for you. Joseph Free but a great moment with Jimmy Johnson. Getting the The call from the hall on Live Television just similar obviously bill cower on CBS the day before this one however is obviously personal for the guy that you stand next to for all of these games. What a great moment when they cut the troy with tears in his eyes watching it from the bottom of inland? Where you right there or I backed act up and let the let the camera shoot him. Because that's the relationship I've gotten to know Jimmy over the years and and love the Guy Death but but I think Terry's reaction was just does was just as real with the way he you know was cheering i..

"You want your hometown guys doing it. So I understand the whole you know if you're the cubs in their fans you you want Len Kasper To be doing the Games and Yeah I WanNa John Kelly and Darren Pang to be doing the Blues Games because I know the routing along with me and they're living and dying with every goal and and every penalty so I i. It's good perspective for me and And and makes me understand that bigger picture even better the last one here. Joe Is your wife. Michelle absorb as my listeners. Not Pronounce her last name. Professional last name is that right. Yeah buys listener. Then she went to buys ner buck and talk. Okay yeah there you go okay so Michelle buys ner buck for though and certainly if you're an NFL fan interviewer you've watched and seeing her reports on ESPN. She's really really gifted in sort of long term. Long form feature profiles. And what's interesting to me Joe. Is that you you've worked at Fox essentially your entire professional life. Michelle is obviously worked at a number of different places. And while I don't want you to reveal veal. Anything out of pocket here you you now get a glimpse into ESPN through your partner. and I wonder if that is just interesting to you given that you have worked for whether you want to call them their competitor or whether you want to call them obviously a contemporary. You've worked for the other guys for so long. Zack has been an interesting prospect to get a little insight into the ESPN University universe. That you were not necessarily part of yeah. It's a great question question. I and I've never really thought about it that way but yeah I. I've gotten a peek behind the curtain at another network and become friends with A lot of her bosses losses and and text with them Because I'm I'm just I'm a guy that that I think you know obviously have been in. TV A long time. But but I'm I'm I'm no threat to anybody over there. 'cause I'm at Fox and so whether it's tough mark winters some of the other people that I'm friendly with you know the the funny thing is i. I guess this is a bit of a departure from question. I'll get to it in one second but the guy who she's closest with on on the pre-game on Monday nights set and the guy who when I show up to support my wife who I ended up talking to the most is Randy Moss Who you know I had the whole? That's disgusting thing and I still if I check on twitter that'll be on my twitter feed at some point. You know once a day and you know we've laughed at it. He was at Fox. He's a great guy he's he's invited Michelle and and maybe To his home to fish. And I you know it's it's just funny. How how life kind of brings things full? We'll circle and gives you a different perspective as the years go by and so yeah I understand the inner workings I think better than than most now at ESPN. I hear my my wife complaints. I hear I hear what she loves about. Espn we all have them. It doesn't matter where you work But it's an entirely different structure you know Fox has maintained kind of that family feeling If you will and I went from working for David Hill and had gorin run to work in for Eric shanks now Brad Zieger And and you know I can call them and and then I can call them and and complain they can call me invent. They can call me and complain about something I'm doing and it feels very you know non-threatening So it's it's a good good feel at Fox and I feel like you know my wife's work's her tail off I did. NFL Network now ESPN. And I know both those structures because uh I've heard from her what was like. NFL Not working what it is like now it espn. She loves being. They're they're great to her She's got that same same feel with the people. She's in direct contact with the. Yeah I it is interesting to finally get to see what another network is like and I'll just say I'm I'm happy with where I am and don't plan on going anywhere until they kicked me out of the door Joe. Buck really doesn't need much introduction. These Longtime Fox sports broadcaster lead broadcast on the NFL. Mlb Fox Coverage Golf Catch him on Thursday night football on Sunday. Night football with Troy Aikman and Erin Andrews and the rest rest of the Ricci. Zion's which Russo grouped. I will mention For the audience. Just as you're on here Either reschedules podcast. A couple of times in Joe's total it'll pro- in Working with did not have to do that at all. He's not being paid for this podcast. We'll probably hurt his career in fact so I appreciate Joe You You coming coming things happen. I'm here to Accommodate and and I like doing it because I feel like you get the business. "How do you deal with people who hate Joe Buck Tuck Blah Blah Blah? You know the the interesting thing. There is that The narrative on that has shifted a little bit and there are people now who I think a lot of stories out there and I'm glad to see this who I think. Appreciate your work for your work where I'm getting to on this. This is an again. If my thesis here is wrong please let me know but having interviewed you and known you for a long time. I get the impression that and maybe it's having when young kids. Maybe it's your second marriage. Whatever it is there seems to be some Kinda ship with you where you stopped sort of caring so much about what was being set about you on social media or what was being written about you and just sort of like sort of understood that like so much of that is kind of bullshit and then just went about your day and I think my sense is even when you're interviewed and when I read interviews from you there's a different feel to them? You can tell me full of Shit here. But that's been my read over the the last couple of years. What's your reaction to that? Yeah I think there's there's a lot of Truth in that. And what you just said I don't know that I'm doing the game any differently than I've ever done it. You know I think you know you and I have talked in the past and I think I've talked about this probably on on this podcast but I'm certainly addressed it that. When when in Chris Collins Worth Troy Aikman and I took over for Pat Summerall and John Madden I launched into this stupid pat summerall? Aw Impression and there was only one pat summerall and I and I regard him and I regard he and John as as Kinda groundbreaking certainly record-setting with the amount of time that they were together but but they are everybody over. Uses the whole Mount Rushmore. But but they are that they're on that for NFL broadcasters AL's there too. Obviously but I think of those guys and I. I think I was a bit intimidated back then and I tried and I'm working with two people instead of one and so I tried to just low key it as best I could and I think that came off. As being disinterested disinterested I'm be most interested person I feel like in the business now. I would imagine everybody feels that way about their own work otherwise you wouldn't do it But but that. That's the one part that I was pissed me off like he acts like he doesn't care all I do care. And and if if I'm not talking are going nuts the entire game. That's really me just trying to get out of the way whether that's however that's taken. That was certainly the intention. And then when I went through the by vocal issue and I had a paralyzed vocal cord and I was more worried about how a sound was gonna come out of my mouth and out of my throat than what I was Gonna GonNa say That shook me to my core and I was worried about things I'd never thought about. Before in my life you know like You know whatever surgeon losing losing feeling in his fingers or you know whatever the analogy would be in other places of business and I couldn't talk And make the the right kind of sound that was frightening and when it came back you know I I did kind of say you know fuck it. I don't care I'm just going to do the game I wanNA. Why do people are GonNA think? I'm rooting against their team. Because they don't hear people do. It's a baseball thing. At least I've convinced myself that it's a baseball. SPAW thing because people for the most part here. Their hometown announcers their team announcers for one hundred and sixty two games a year and I could do a seminar on this but you and I talked about this one time on the phone or we texted about it even directors cutting games if you're doing a local package the the the hometown I if I'm doing a game for the cardinals and I'm cutting it as director of broadcasting about it the cardinal fans. Don't care about the Max. They don't care about the mets bullpen. They don't care about the dodgers Jersey padres but when the national guy show up you have to cover both sides and you have to get excited when the other team hits a home run and two fans ear. It's it's awful I mean. It's it's nails on a chalkboard you're you're pissed off as a fan and now the astle on TV is yelling and screaming about not just hit a home. Run against your guy and so you understand it and once you understand it you just kind of blow it off and I. I think I've become a little bit more mature. Were that way I'm certainly secure with what I with. What I've done in my career and I go back and listen to myself at twenty seven doing a world series on National National TV at Yankee Stadium? And and I I've there's been enough time now where I look back on that and I listened to it I go God man I was twenty seven and I wasn't scared appeared and I I handled myself in some ways before social media and all that other stuff and the noise. I was better than than I am at times. is now. Because I was a little bit more freewheeling so I you know I've gone through a lot of different cycles in my life in my career and when quote Unquote Okay Twitter reacts. That's fine twitter. Twitter always gonNA react if you have any opinion and you just have to let that live live and and not fight it and laugh at it and just go on and do your job done it for a long time. Now if I sucked at it I wouldn't be doing it and You know I know. I'm I'm accomplished what I do. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to operate I'd be intimidated and then I would really suck Joe. I want to ask you about Your just something in your personal life and you mentioned you referenced earlier that you have. I think maybe it's a little older now twin boys and as someone who's a father of young twins myself the one thing that is really true. And it's obviously much harder for our wives but the one thing that's really true is your energy level is very different. You know as a would be different as a twenty twenty five year old father and you obviously have a job and you mentioned earlier how you travel. So I'm wondering just in terms of having these very very young Children how have you at least at this point sort of navigated the real physicality of taking care of young twins with Ajab that while is not as certainly demanding construction work or something like that does have its travel and does have some other things that are not Azizi as they would be if you were twenty five. Yeah you know I. I'm glad you through that in about being a construction worker or you know working nine nine to five or eight to eight and you know punching a time clock or working on semblance line or whatever it might be the believe me. I'm not the ASSHOLE. Do things that what I do is demanding or You know physically taxing or can wear you into the ground. I know there are so many people how my dad worked harder in his career and I thought firsthand I work Even in two thousand nineteen doing Thursday Sunday football and world series. And all that. It's a great job and I love to work. I saw my dad firsthand with a great work ethic I also I also feel like I'm a good dad and and I I say that knowing that people could roll their eyes but I feel like the asked. My daughter's twenty three and twenty now who their best friend is. They'd say me and and and I feel like at some point when my kids are able to put a full sentence together my boys they're gonNA know that I they're going to know that I've done everything I can do to let them know that they are the most important things in my life And and so the physicality thirty of it is hard. You know getting dumb as it is. I mean I've had two back surgeries a broken neck In physically in my past and getting up and down off the floor and lifting these kids one if feels like he weighs three thousand pounds. One Kid's light as a feather and you know throw in these guys around and and and lifting them off the floor and changing their diapers. I'm in there getting dirty as I can be and You know that that requires flying home after a Thursday Thursday night game and getting up with him on Friday morning. If I'm in this house they know in this house and they now on their face and and that's the only way I want to do it so it is taxing axeing and it is tiring so worth it and that's the beauty of being a dad the second time around. I get to see what this leads to. I get to be close with my daughters and now I get to put that work in with my sons and you know God willing. I live long enough. And they're you know on their way to college which someday and and they want dad to visit they wanna come home. 'cause they miss me or they want they want me involved in their lives and that that's that's the best part of all this and it's so much more important than the other stuff we've talked about our twitter the super bowl or any of that you know at the end of the day I that that's why I feel like I was put on this. Earth is it to be a good dad and and produce four now You know good citizens that that will try to do good in the world. That's that's well said and you know now come to believe that true love is two two and a half year old twins throwing up on you and you still love them. After that experience. I had that two weeks ago and then I got sick and then I had it off to do a game in Cleveland and I think that that helmet swinging game and you know I'm I'm I've got chills and I'm getting hot and cold and sweaty and feverish and I threw up the day before and you know that that's just part rid of it but you'll love it and you wouldn't want it any other way and then you have to go answer the bell for work but again so does everybody and that doesn't mean I'm different different than anybody else. I just have to do my work on national TV. And and I like it that way. It's it's a fun life and it's it's all I've ever wanted to do a a couple more things here and I'll let you go do you is there. Are there any sports that you watch Away from football and baseball that you just do for just pure fun on one of the things. That's always interesting to me is when I learned You know when I talked to somebody who's like well regarded a well-known sport for instance like Adam Schefter. WHO's like a big NBA Nerd and like his most fund? Sports experience isn't football it's like watching the NBA and being part of an NBA. Fantasy League. Do you is there something away from the traditional sports that we know you of that you that you check out often absolutely. I mean hockey. I I've been my dad was the first voice the Blues He used to joke that he knew nothing about hockey. But it was radio and he kinda fake his way through it And he passed that love of hockey on to me the blues and then I passed it on to my daughter so I up until this year. There's a first year have not been a season ticket holder since my early twenties when I was working for the cardinals not making a Lotta money but still wanted to to go down and watch the blues so this past year when they came out of the the dungeon to end up winning the Stanley Cup is one of the the best fan experiences. Really probably the best sports experience of my life And you know I. It's the one thing. I can openly root for people everybody in San Francisco. Thanks I go to that in Cardinal Pajamas every night and I don't but I get to to open I sit in seats. We used to have seats behind the net And where Blues Blues Hat not gone to the Jersey yet But but be there with my daughter's openly Ruchir get mad get Get pissed get you know. Have be exhilarating and then then any get the whole national thing and you know for as much as I admire. Doc Emrick as close as I am to Kenny Albert. I get it you know when the Games matter out of the most..

"He he is the lead broadcaster for that network on the NFL. Major League Baseball. Fox's coverage of golf he and Troy Aikman and Erin Andrews will not only do Thursday football Sunday games they will call super bowl l one of the this year just on note Probably from my guy crew at age where ads are now going for five point. Six six million per thirty second spot. That is a record when it comes to a super bowl joe I it's Joe is really I appreciate talking to him because because I think when I have these podcast I think it lets people into A little bit of a different side of Joe Book. I don't want to humanize him. Because that's a little bit patronizing but it just sort of gives you that like whatever you think of Joe box from the twitter world. It's it's not really it's not. It's not really the case. And so I I enjoy him being on podcast and I think we get into some topics in different places including his personal life that he might not go into with other PODCASTS and And I appreciate his time so coming up a about a half hour conversation with Joe Book on the Sports Media. podcast all right as I said at the top giving all Joe Books Various Assignments Longtime Fox sports broadcaster networks lead broadcaster from the NFL L. Major League Baseball Fox's coverage of golf and I should mention he can call the upcoming super bowl this year. Super Bowl El One v were ads are going for a slick five point six million per thirty second spot Joe Buck. It's been a while that I've done a podcast with you. Welcome back you know as you said the Roman numerals for Super Bowl fifty four. I think we're up to it. Reminded me School math classes. And at the time. I had no idea why was being forced how to read. Roman the numerals. Little did I know later in my life I would have to see. What is it L. I. V. And know that that's fifty four four. I guess as I'm going out on a limb but the whole you know I- before Axes XS Ken. The I comes before acts and that makes it nine A.. And Yeah I I didn't know back then but I know now and I'm using it every three years. Yeah it's very you know it connotates stature were were these Roman numerals so I understand one. NFL DID it. By the way I should point out. I think you know this the last time I did a podcast with you I asked you your favorite curse word and you curse within the first minute of of a podcast which I had to be a record at the time so. I'm not asking you to do that again but I I did WANNA public shit shit. I did want to publicly. Thank you for dropping that You know create a little bit of a buzz so I appreciate that very much nothing. Nothing creates a buzz like a guy on network. TV saying bad words on a podcast. That's kind of my That's kind of my go-to yeah. It shows you where my career's Joe. There you go. So you're you're on fire. So here's where I wanNA start. We'll get to a little bit of serious stuff. You're doing a little bit of research. Yesterday I saw I was reading some stuff on your dad. And he broadcast into his seventies Everybody knows Joe's Dad. Jack Buck one of the iconic voices of his era very famous Saint Louis Cardinals broadcasters well and so here's what I wanted to start like this. We're at a different time. It's two thousand nine hundred. You have a different life. You have young children now but it does what your dad did broadcasting into his seventies does that philosophically interest you. Yeah that's a good question you know. I got myself into trouble a few years ago when I was promoting my book and somebody asked me Over the winter when all this stuff kind of piles up and I'm tired and I'm thinking about the past asked world series. I don't know if I was coming off the cubs maybe winning in two thousand sixteen. Whatever the timing was and I said you know at some point here soon? It's IT'S GONNA be time for somebody else to do the world series at least nationally And you know I said that. Then and I wasn't being flippant flippant about it I I I meant what I said and then I I worked another year with John. SMOLTZ and I enjoyed it so much that it felt like I wanted to match match my contract up baseballwise which John's so I went back into that thankfully Fox wanted me to continue doing it. That's that's always Obviously the biggest part of the equation. But I think when you asked me that question I think of where I am now at fifty with one and a half year old twin boys I think twenty many years from now and I. I just don't see with the intensity that there is doing what I and we do On a national it'll level now With that intensity that that it's something that I'm GonNa WanNa do Maybe you know who knows what what life brings things. Maybe I don't do tomorrow's game as we sit here on Wednesday And it's the cowboys the bears you know you don't know what's around the corner so it's it's hard to make long-term long term plans at any business especially with rights changing and You know the whole entire business structure could change by by the time. I'm seventy But I I just don't think what. What the kind of intensity the scrutiny way? This job has been trending over the last five six years. Doing it into my seventies. I just I don't think I would do that to myself. And I think my wife or my kids by that point tap on the shoulder and say dad. Why don't you just it over here for a while and let somebody else go about this? You you mentioned that you turned fifty in April and obviously you have Very Young Children Agency. So it's a different kind of fifty for sure but did that number have some kind of professional or personal meaning for you in relation to this larger picture. We're talking about your broadcast career. You're always the young guy in the booth you know. Now you're not the young guy in the booth. No you're right and that's exactly where I was going to go. You know I think forty had more of an impact on my life. I think when you look back on that that's a lot of things personally for me changed That's when I went through a divorce. That's when I had teenage daughters and I was was was trying to piece together a personal life. That was you know at least I guess quiet enough to allow me to go out and and do my job for Fox and and so you know for whatever reason when I hit forty a lot of stuff changed in my life Then I went through the vocal issue Shortly thereafter and got over that and so now you know when I hit fifty it is weird because I still i. I still Kinda see myself as my dad's kid as nuts as that sounds and you know he's been he's been gone for almost twenty years I've I've been at Fox for this is my twenty six th season I guess at Fox But I you know when I talked to Aaron Rodgers In a production in meeting or I taught talk to Matt Nagy and in a production meeting. I still feel like they're older than me. Because I got into this at such a young age and it's so preposterous. I even think that you know that I would that I would mentally have that field but I I still feel like a kid and I think maybe that's good. That's probably good for all that I've taken on here over the past couple of years but Yeah when I when I hear fifty and then you see some of these younger guys coming up like Joe Davis or whoever You start realizing that you're not the kid more and you're not the twenty seven year old during the world series And and it's it's a little It's a little jarring but it also you know I I look back and I'm proud of the body the of work and I'm proud of starting at the age that I started at and all that I took on and you know handled To be able to talk to you as a fifty year rolled getting ready to do a few big games here down the stretch. You know I could too. I could have failed back then and You know I I would have been flushed out of this business. I think twice as quick As I otherwise might have been and You know that didn't happen. Joe Does does the Super Bowl Year. Feel different when in your. I know you've done a number of them. Now you've obviously done the world series but does it even given your experience. Does this year feel different because at the end of the year. You're you're calling the the biggest television program of the year. Yeah it does you know. I think it's changed with Thursday night football because in the past I to be honest honest with you I I watched as much as I. Could you know on on a Sunday night or on a Monday night football game and I I learned I learned just through watching television the AFC. And so I had some point of reference when I was talking predominantly on. NFC Games on Fox. Well what was going on in the other conference I'm not sure people really understand the Fox you know did the deal and and they we cover mainly NFC with you know dipping our toes in the water in the AFC over the years ears but now with Thursday football. You know we're seeing Cleveland. We're seeing The jets we're seeing Baltimore so we've got Baltimore's our final Thursday night game and there's no way you can sit here at this point. Provided Lamar Jackson stays healthy. Thinking that you know it's it's fetched at all that Baltimore could be in that game so it's it's a huge huge advantage to actually do a game with the team you're going to see when it counts the most and then you know that that's just sitting out there when the season starts you know no matter if you're doing a Thursday game of Sunday's game world series mixed in whatever you know that that that you know that flashing light is out there for the first week in February and really no matter what you do the moment you have up to that point. That's it that's when he jump Off The diving board and you have to live with whatever comes out of your mouth and you have to Be As on it and as Clean Leanne as you can possibly be Because that's everybody's last taste of the NFL for the year. And you know you've got one hundred plus million people people watching and it can get intimidating if you so. Yeah this'll be. I don't even know six or whatever. Whatever the number is that I've done and I think each one has become more intense as every three years rolls around? So I you know I'm I'm I'm thankful I get a chance to do it but it's it's not easy. And there's a lot of scrutiny on that game and everybody's shredding everything you say and You you know you have to kind of put that out of your mind and just go about doing the same game you would do in September you. You signed a contract with Fox through at least the twenty twenty one season or an extension. You said that publicly and as you noted on this podcast that SORTA connects. I guess to John smoltz. You've been really fortunate in your career and that you've had long standing partners. Tim Carver in baseball was a long standing relationship with you. And now you've got a a nice relationship with John on on air you've been with Troy for obviously. I don't even know what the number is right now but a very long time at this point in your career Joe I mean obviously it could happen. You don't know what the future uterus but how how odd or how weird would it be to get new partners in these two major sports i..

"Blues run. How much did you enjoy that it was <hes> it was beyond my expectations. I mean i've been a lifelong blues fan. I and i'm no different than anybody else out there. Just another one of them and i think we probably all have the same type story. I was introduced to it by my dad. My dad dad and i spent many nights sitting on the couch watching and he was jumping and reacting to to what is this great sport that goes end to end <hes> <hes> and you go. I think the beauty of it is you go from a scoring chance to hanging on for dear life within five seconds back down the other end so that's what makes it's so fun and i- i latched onto that and it was something that my dad was a huge fan of having been there original voice i think he understood hockey is life and the years went on more than he did did when he was broadcasting <hes> and so then i carried it forward with my daughter's knows bene- season ticket holder since i was in my early twenties than it was something that i took my daughter's down to and so we all did that as a family and as i've said before it's the one thing that i can openly root for and i have no shame in wearing whatever i can and telling everybody that i'm a diehard blues fan but again i mean i it's no different than anybody else. I'm just somebody that has access to t._v. And radio and i get to talk about it more than everybody else and probably drives people nuts in nobody's <hes> saying that i'm the number number one superfan but it was emotional and i it it dominated my mood i mean i felt like i was a kid again. Because when i was a kid if the cardinals one i went to bed happy and i woke up happening because i think <hes> with the cardinals july so they won and i was happy and if they lost go to bed mad and i'd wake up and go las us last night at least smith blue saver bruder blue save and now you know that that set my tone for the rest of the day until they played again and that left me early early on in life that whole fandom kinda rudy says you're broadcasting i would imagine broadcasting and i think when you're when you're around the team yeah and you're you're on the charters and you see somebody blow a big game and then five minutes into the flight. The middle seats kicked down. The cards are out the meal money's on the table. They're laughing and drinking and having fun you realize as a kid i care more about this stuff than they do and they can't care like we carers aris fans because they'd be paralyzed by failure and they couldn't respond to <hes> to not getting the job done properly. I think they have to be able to flush it. That's what that's what professional athletes can do but we as fans don't and so i think i saw that as a kid i understood it and then when i got got into it as a broadcaster as as i started to do more and more national stuff that just kind of left me so to be able to tap back into that and feel feel like a kid again while the blues were going on this run which was unexpected. We've had better blues teams that didn't win <hes> and to beat a boston team that was seemingly seemingly better really throughout every round of the playoffs to to beat you know really every team they did to get there was awesome. Where were you when they won. I was at pebble so they knew you're on a town on getting ready for you. Associate was the next day was day one so it they won on a wednesday night and dan o'neill who helps me with my golf. <hes> <hes> coverage <hes> was out there and he and i were in my hotel room sorely span yeah oh. I didn't know that he did that. Yes and he's you know he's written books on the blues and he has a theme theme song about the blues and <hes> so he and i were in my room drinking beers <hes> eating room service and watching on <hes> the tv at at whatever that hotel the lodge pebble beach and screaming and the doors were open screaming and yelling. They probably thought there was a murder going on in there but <hes> knows it was just the blues <hes> dominating game that for the first. I'm telling you the i realize this point. It's been like seven weeks but the first seventeen eighteen minutes or so dominated by boston just ridiculous and bennington and i get it rhino riley from day one was the i think the whole atmosphere atmosphere changer that team and we know the work ethic and how he is of talk to maroon about how he was with the young guys like robert thomas different guys that were coming up all that being said they lose game seven without bennington and and i watched the highlights again three days ago i because i'm on the blues zap and if you go down down a couple of rows you see the highlights from game seven any watch it again with a little bit of separation between now and then go my god this guy stood on his head and and and stop point blank shots and on the road and just spit on these shots and then eventually they took the lead and he kept playing great and it was two nothing and he had another unbelievable save kicking out his right leg and then two seconds later. It's three nothing and that's when they won that that that all hope of a comeback that was gone. I had maroon was in here actually a couple of weeks ago and i said we've had a debate. Cam johnson read lower screaming at each each other here. Cam said <hes> o'reilly should have been the conn smythe winner read was insistent. That should have been bennington so i said to pat and i was gonna be awkward i said but who do you think should have one conn smyth. <hes> o'reilly benny goes. I actually think it should have been jaded. Shorts negus people forget how good he was. The first couple of series rally went on a tear he goes. It's not against o. Reilly bennington he goes. I think that was i guess when you think about winnipeg and <hes> the run that he went on yeah. I think it's easy to remember the last yes with those council. It's my throat what i mean. I think you could go back to game seven against dallas and you know maroon was the guy that got the winner in double overtime but they're not there without more incredible saves and there were some golden opportunities dallas missed that if one of those goes in where we don't have the right amount of lives don't have another month and a half of it now as as blues fan so either game six against boston know how was that a tablet on already gone yeah <hes> so i watched with faxon axon brad faxon who's on our golf crews from new england is a huge boston. Fancy watched with a watched it at the tap room in the lodge <hes>. I didn't didn't even wanna go but he was having dinner with <hes> couple of different players that we're gonna play that week and i felt one of them was fleetwood and wanna wanna. I felt like if i didn't go. I was being lazy because i could actually meet flea would get to know him a little bit. Ask him some questions about all. I did was stare at the t._v. The whole time and then they they lost and i'm listening to facts in chirp and faxes nine paying attention and by the way went to a party during game seven <hes> and he's like like <hes>. I stopped watching after the first period after the first period to another games a to nothing game. You're not a fan. I don't wanna hear one thing you had to say about any of this holly fleetwood watching games no going now. He couldn't care less <hes> but his caddie iain finis <hes> amusing character in a music great guy but i've never not understood somebody who serve theoretically speaks the same language i do more of these like road rules whoa he's got the heaviest accent and i was just nodding he couldn't have been a nicer guy and he was talking to me about the blues about the game and why i love it and he he was great but i couldn't understand a frigging. Who else was it this any other players have noted this dinner. <hes> nelga geoff shackelford was there who has been one of our biggest critics <hes> at golf white box. You all your biggest critics well. He's one of the few guys that writes kind of gulf centric t._v. Up guys get into that they get into that noling. I've i've been on that. They like us for some reason. <hes> shackelford has never like this <hes> and took some shots at me and then you know i i was in spots where if i were him and had taken shots i would go out of my way to introduce myself self he didn't and then we kind of we kinda took shots but then he learnt well. We were in the same spot and it was one of those where are now. I didn't know who he was and and <hes> our producer. After he left a restaurant after he took shots at us after the franklin templeton thing which was like our first event ever and and <hes> we were in the same restaurant up in tacoma before chambers bay or during chambers bay and he kind of walked right past me in our our producers like you knew that was now that was jeff shack for okay so then we we actually got to know each other in the guy i bow down to his knowledge of golf golf golf course architecture all that and we've become friends so i talked to him the whole time while watching the game facts and headed back to the t._v. Thank and <hes> so <hes> you know it was it was a fun night and it was glad i was there for no other reason to get to know jeff better but <hes> yeah i just i can't do so. I have to just be all all anti no. I i can't imagine watching a blue stanley cup final game and not being able to be to concentrate exactly like him to bat shit about it. Yeah i and it happened. We were doing the women's open in south carolina and and <hes> that was i dunno game to maybe game one. I don't know what it was. We wanted to <hes> no. It must have been game game. One game one and game three there wasn't madonna five game five was the <hes> the miscall game osieck <hes> trip and then the goal yeah yeah weird i really do..

"You just use porn acopia. I wish that we could hear stuff like that on the FOX broadcast because that was expertly done. And I just I also love that you made it porn acopia to. Well. Yeah. I mean, well, I got better after the first one I mean, find your way, and then all of a sudden, you get your voice and pointy copious to was way better. Like godfather to better than the original. What what would you go back and do differently? And what did you imagine that show becoming because? Yeah, I really did have high hopes for this. I thought that was gonna produce opportunities for all of us. Joe? I really did. Because I knew how good you were at that job. And I knew how underrated clever you are. And so I'm like he's going to crush it. Because he's great at television and of all places for HBO not to give it more of a chance than that. I mean, I think you have to live. Whether whether it's facing the Randy moss thing was disgusting or me calling a home run to win a World Series in the moment. I mean, you have to live with what you do. And you have to be proud of what the end result is. I still like those shows and the thing that really pissed me ratings really good and the rating was building over the hour that we were on. And it was better than what was there before. And after all that fall to their PR guy. Can you least relief the the notion that the rating was strong and with regard to that number? It was a success while we attack rating today now like my God, I'm getting my hat handed him the ratings of good. So what I do anything differently? I don't know. I think I've grown since. Then I think if I was sitting on that couch now hardy went into what he went into. I'd like to think that I would be better prepared to handle it. But I'm not gonna win the sparring match. That's not gonna happen. I'm gonna get. My, you know, I wanna get my ass, and it to me, and then to how much can I really say without owning any image that I've created the guy doing the Super Bowl the guy who in the World Series is is down there trading farts with Artie Lang, it's just not a good. Look, I feel like I want to go into a project with you where it's Joe buck worked blue I feel like you've got this whole dirty underbelly that that we can explore come on man, you're free. You're confident you're in love your man, who's got wrong convictions, and his and weary weary by social media. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Nothing happened where whatever I were to say is not going to bleed over into the other parts of my life talked about your sex life on stern buck. That's true. But I think when you do it. I don't know he's in his own silo over there if you and I do project, and I'm I'm going down. On those pads on my own. Then I re- then I run the risk of of ending a great living that I've created because you admitted in the book, you told a couple of the greatest stories ever told on the show the one about peeing in the booth and the one about the pot Browning. Like, you nailed a lot in your book that people didn't know you felt the need to do that and the freedom found freedom in it. Yeah. Well, first of all, you're not gonna convince me to doing it on gas. But now we're not going to enter into some agreement where that accent walking out a stage at Caroline's in New York, and it's being hyped on Bleacher report who did the it's the match. That's my dream. Yeah. I get it..

"You know, at some point all you can do is laugh. I mean, it's it's live TV and whether it's nineteen fifty two or three or it's two thousand sixteen seventeen or whatever things are going to happen. And you're not going to be perfect. And I think striving to be perfect is going to again lead you back into boring Ville, so you know, the same person that handed me that card handed thirty cars in the course of the week that may be sound way smarter and way more well read about the PGA tour than I actually was. So I have to wear it and live with it. The guy felt terrible. And and I was embarrassed, but that's life on live TV. And I think, you know, those moments kind of bring the real part of it all back into your mind. Like man, this is kind of a high wire act, and if you screw up now, it's it's gonna get relived for a long time and. Two thousand one really quick Tony Womack of the Diamondbacks. It a game winning or game. Yeah. Game winning Basit against partners in the division series. Oh, ever millions Ono. No, just he just lost his father during the course of the year. And I was talking about leading into this at bat and Father's Day was so special. And then here's the to pitch base it into right? I'm so and so's coming to the Diamondbacks win and they put a headset on him down on the field. And I'm interviewing him from the booth in this mob of people in this woman comes up and hugs him. And I think these guys are so young and I've just been talking about his dad, I go. Hey, is that your mom hugging goes? It's like the needle came off the record. He goes. No, man. That's my wife, and I was like, oh, my God that was national television. And I just called his wife his mother and actually went down apologize to him. He was laughing about it. I bought her flowers and gave him. Were in the next series. And then he became a part at the non pretty well. After the fact he was great. But that was that was pre social media. Thank god. I wish that I and the audience could see the real Joe buck during broadcasts because I know how polished you are. But I don't feel like the audience America's audience has been listening to you for a long time. I don't feel like they have a real understanding of how funny you are a of how that if you were allowed to do that broadcast the way that you wanted to it would probably be a lot different. Probably be a lot more interesting. And it would probably get me fired within five minutes. I I don't I'm nobody is dumb enough to go. Yeah. No, thanks, Dan. Yeah. I'm a really funny guy. I that's I don't know about that. But I do know that I do jump through a lot of hoops in my mind before something comes out of my mouth like I I was just doing a game a couple of weeks ago. And you know, there's a dumb example and not funny after your preamble, but you know, so one of the offensive lineman was flagged for tripping, and I like, my initial reaction was to say something about hunter S Thompson, Mike, and you know, who else was guilty of that story when nobody trip like hunter S Thompson. Then I thought, hey, that's probably not smart to say be Troy's not gonna know who the hell onerous Thompson is. So I'm not gonna say it for a couple of reasons. But that's the kind of stuff that you know, the devil on my shoulder of swallow. I really other what I would love to hear you in the booth with. Paul rudd. I just talking about the game where we didn't have to treat it like the cathedral that the NFL wants us to treat it like he would both enjoy that. And that's the way. That's why I do..

"And then you got kind of stress at home, whether it's in the past life, or it's in the current life with twin boys that are seven months old. You know, it can it can wear you down. But I think the main thing is you realize that I'm so lucky and fortunate and I don't say that trying to corny. I honestly believe that I saw my dad or ten times harder than I work. Now make ten times less than I make now and be probably ten times happier than than I've ever been just kind of. Whistled through learn from able to CLYDE in and out of media rooms and do his job. I think it was at a time when you know, obviously, social media wasn't around. And I think he felt pretty unfettered doing what he did. And kinda set whatever came through his mind, it's just a different profession now. And there's so many filters that that I have to put in between a thought in my head, and what comes out of my mouth it by the time. It comes out of my mouth, it's just watered down. And and and so I think you know, that's always the challenge. Every time. I go into the booth. It's like, okay. I know what's going on. I know kind of some of the funnier stuff. I wanna do. I know some of the edgier stuff for the more opinionated stuff that I wanna do. What is it really worth? What's going to follow? Is it really worth the fallout? Whether it's social media, which I really don't pay a ton of attention to or the articles get written that eventually filter back to your bosses. They're really. Worth all that to throw your chin out there and stick your neck out most of the time. The answer's no what is the best part of the job when the game kicks off. When the first pitch is thrown. You know, whatever the sport is used to do college basketball when they tip it off, you know, then you just kinda take your work. And if you've if you prepared right? I mean, I think he kind of throw it away, and you just watch and react and enjoy the game and enjoy the strategy of it. And you know, and I think working with the people I've gotten to work with Troy, and I talked about this the other day that number two all time to Madden and Summerall, which is mind blowing to me that that were you know, that we're number two on that list. If you believe social media, I don't know. I have never counted them up. I don't know how many anybody's done so that could be right or wrong. But the point is the been together a long time, and we really enjoy each other. And I had a great relationship with Tim Carver, and I have a really good relationship with. With John Smoltz. And I just I enjoy kinda going navigating by way through a game baseball or football with the person, I'm working with and at the end feeling like we covered it had fun and did a good job. And you know, let the social media reaction be what it'd be what it is. It doesn't really matter in, you know, when you do well, and that's that's satisfying. That's the best part. We'll get back to our conversation with Joe buck in a moment. But one of the things that allows the podcast breathing exist is an absence of commercials. But everything we do that pays for everything around. Here is with commercials salaries everything so we ask you to tolerate a couple of minutes of advertisements on behalf of our sponsors. That are supporting this stuff and keeping it free. Just get to the draft king spot. Dan, I listened not for the interview. I listen for the spots. And this is one that you'll recognize it is the newest way to play a single game showdown. It's the final opportunity. Play fantasy football this season home and draftkings, it's industry standard. "This is how we show the advertiser that you're listening to this. And that we're the ones who sent you there. So what is the slogan for recruiter meets, the smartest way to hire. Let's get to Joe buck. You know, we like to talk to interesting people about interesting things around here. And I feel like Joe buck has been miscast that many of you have an opinion of Joe buck that is inaccurate. Or some of you have an opinion of Joe buck is not a stiff smug. No, it all he's a charming Noel so Joe buck with us. I'm curious. I just found out that you got touted up you got touted up late in life that you got bicep tattoos. I love this about you. I did the only thing that didn't come with the tattoos or the biceps kind of kind of a disappointment. When you when you have to get that worked on by a guy attached to parlor in mid Missouri. And then you realize when you kinda pull the sleep back that he's basically working on flab. Okay. But but beyond that, though, the idea you got into your forties here. And this is love that made. You do this. I wanna talk to Joe buck about how he got turned upside down. Yeah. I I don't know. I don't know that I've, you know, maybe at turned right? I was I was upside down for a while. I think personally not any bad way or any any alarming situation type thing. But I think I was a pretty unhappy person as as, you know, at some point aging human walking this earth and after going through divorce and getting through all of the. You know, kinda the rundown and the anxiety and guilt that is a socio with divorce when you have children, I think more than for any other reason, you know, I I met Michelle who's now my wife, and while she's younger than I think because she looks younger than she is. And I look older than I am the age gap appears to be way weirder than it, actually is I only seven years, but you know, I I realized that after coming out of the divorce that I've I don't know that I ever really was in in a great place as as an adult in a marriage, and I'm sure my ex wife probably say the same thing, you know, I think you grow over time. And yeah, I mean, I know we got into this on tattoos. And it was kinda like a little symbolic thing that I put on me to not forget kind of that little patch that I went through during the divorce, and you know, kinda come out of the other end of it. She helped get you too happy. Yeah. I think so I mean, I. Ultimately, I've been doing therapy. Didn't know that ultimately that that's really up to the person not somebody else to make the person happy. And so I don't eat all that on her. But I, you know, we have fun and we laugh, and and we're both in the business, and she's been a great step mom and my daughter's adore her. And now, you know, here we sit a handful years later, and she and I are parents of seven month old twin boys, and so it's it's it's gone kinda fast and furious here, but yeah, I beyond happy. I mean, I think content is better word than happy. I think when you're content, and I'm forty nine years old, and I feel like I work hard and do the best job. I can content is a good place to be at this point in my life. This might be a dumb question. But did you know, you're unhappy? Yeah. I think so. Yeah. I I don't know that that outside of therapist office. It's fair to talk about your relationship with somebody who isn't even represented in the conversation. I like I said, I mean, I think we were my wife, and I were I think really good parents. And the best thing I can say, and I think at the end of it, all, you know, she was my first ever girlfriend. We went out with your fifteen. We broke up and got back together over the I dunno seven years or so between fifteen and when we got married I got married at twenty three. There were some other people in there that we both dated separately..

"From from ESPN they had the dodgers winning last night's game six two zero. And then even after you know, what we've been seeing from the brewers the had the dodgers winning tonight six to three. I mean, oh, you know, you're you're seeing you know, a lot of the the narrative that can the brewers have can they ride this hot street and beat you know, this huge Iran's run spurring dodgers team. Right. And and it's like, you know, we were very hot. I mean. Absolutely. But this is more than just a streak, and this is more than just, you know, October walks. Yeah. Let's look down the line lineup. Yeah. Let's look at this. Okay. The brewers play in a tougher division and the dodgers do up and down. They play baseball. You've got this unbalanced schedule. So the brewers they're playing the cardinals. And they're playing the pirates and they're playing the cubs all teams that are well over five hundred that's the toughest schedule in the National League. And the brewers won four more games than the Los Angeles Dodgers with their two hundred twenty million dollar payroll did. But of course, they're not on anybody's radar screens because well TV the TV people live in Los Angeles where they live in New York. So they're not paying attention to the brewers. And and it can it's just I guess, I am venting. I admit it. But and maybe I've got this chip on my shoulder. But this is a great story and people should be talking about how exciting this team is to come out of nowhere and be doing all this great stuff instead of well, they're lucky the riding the wave or whatever. Absolutely. And. I think what's interesting is. You know, you bring up a good point the Milwaukee Brewers don't give as many nationally televised games. So all writing a little bit under the radar. If you're not around the area. But I mean, you look at our partitioning staff, which has been given great, you know, actually been given the respect. But even even with our pitching staff, you had you had traditions that you know, the dodgers bats are just too high. It'd be starting to Iran's. But then you look at past two games. And it's just not. Exactly. I mean, look is it possible that LA's going gonna come back and win the series? Yes. I guess it's possible. I I respect them. They are a good team. What I am frustrated with is the lack of respect that our team is getting a team that had a better regular season record than the vaunted dodgers, and at least as of right now is leading in the series guaranteeing that you know, worst case scenario there's gonna be a game six in Milwaukee, and candidly, candidly were it not for you know, one bad pitch in one bad inning. Dodgers would be trying to win tonight to avert. A sweet this has been the dodgers have been at least in my opinion completely. And totally outplayed by the Milwaukee Brewers. But don't expect to hear that if you tune into the national coverage, here's a text. I'm sick of hearing the national media keep on insinuating that the brewers are over achieving lucky and that NFL likely. Manager of the year Craig counsel, supposedly doesn't know what he's doing. Absolutely, absolutely. And I mean, this I guess this is what you come to expect. When you have this great local team that's on the national stage. But I'm frustrated with four one four seven nine nine one six twenty. Let's talk to let's see let's talk to Dan in greenvale, Daniel WTMJ good afternoon. Hey, Jeff, I think it has a lot to do with the west coast by Fania. The market out there. You know, I don't think I don't necessarily think their their dog and the brewers just they're really hoping for the dodgers in their for their ratings are greater back on what Kansas City won the World Series. Great World Series of very low rated. Yes. Right, right. The the ideal dream of the networks is Los Angeles. And now that knew it would have been Los Angeles and New York, but now that Los Angeles, the Yankees are out of it, the dream is the dodgers and the Red Sox, you know, two of the larger media markets, Houston and Milwaukee. Oh my gosh. That's flyover country. How can you know? What's that gonna do? So I think you're you're probably onto the brewers were. Okay. Sunday night. Baseball is ESPN's featured thing it's it's sort of like Sunday night football. The brewers didn't play on Sunday night baseball. They weren't scheduled any time. This year mean seriously how many times can you watch the Yankees play? The Boston Red Sox four one four seven nine nine one six twenty Mike in Waterford micro WTMJ afternoon. I definitely agree with what you're saying. And I think part of the problem with the analyst, especially as of yet don't know how to analyze a team like the brewers. They're completely different. They do the analytics like who who announces the bullpen as the starting pitchers the brewers. And so these guys that have played traditional baseball traditional cities with traditional teams with the big starting pitching what to say about him in the first place. Right. And they still can't grasp the fact that they're winning that way. It's almost like when the west coast offense came into nobody believed that the San Francisco forty Niners. We're going to be that good. Because how can you do this with their stink and drive and no running game and stuff like that? I go way up playing baseball. And I agree with you, Mike, except I'm willing to make a prediction if the situation were reversed in the brewers were the more conventional team with the starters that went seven innings and the dodgers were the ones that were pushing the envelope and all this stuff. My guess is the spin would be how incredibly unconventional they're rewriting all the rules. This is the future of baseball look at where visionary Dave Roberts. That would be the big the big story. And and I I don't think they like the fact that this new way of playing baseball is coming from Milwaukee. Yes. Absolutely. I think you're exactly right. They resent it. They don't understand it. And they okay. This is not the way it's done. And here you have this little team out of Milwaukee to been able to do this. And I just look I understand inventing. But but somebody who's been a long suffering baseball fan for a long time and a huge brewers fan. I think this is a special season. I do and. And it is frustrated me all along that this team isn't getting the respect that. I think it deserves outside of Milwaukee. Now as long as they keep winning, it doesn't matter and see. That's that's I guess the bottom line keep winning. And you know, who cares? What anybody else thinks? But I think the coverage of the brewers and the national commentators, and then blessed the left the the left coast bias that you've seen towards the the dodgers has been just appalling, I understand that you can pick and choose and somebody that's a great game or or whatever. But just just watch the criticism of the council gets for the different decisions. He makes that did end up. They end up working did end up working because what the brewers are doing right now is something special looking I fully understand dodgers. Could maybe go ahead and win three in a row. And then they go on to the World Series. And Welby said even though it's been a great year. But I mean, this this is an incredibly good story. It's a wonderful story. And it is unfortunate that that story is not. Being told to the national the national audience on a better basis. So luckily, the answer to all this is of course, just to turn down the sound turn up WTMJ and listened to Bob and Jeff do the call. That's of course, the answer to it. But it doesn't change the frustration that I have listening to a lot of the commentators who don't know the brewers don't like the viewer. The brewers don't know anything about Milwaukee and desperately want to see the Los Angeles Dodgers win. Well, maybe they're going to get their wish. But I wouldn't be surprised if I don't know every once in a while the good guys win. And maybe some of the announcers the Joe bucks of the world the Bob Costas of the world. Maybe then they'll even have to figure out how to pronounce the names of some of the brewers players for forty-nine, Jeff Wagner WTMJ. Twelve

"They measure television ratings and a lot of different ways today versus you. Know twenty years ago now you have DVR, and you have digital and, things that They can go into the ultimate rating but, the initial rating for. Tuesday's major league baseball all-star game at least by some metrics had, a rerun of, America's got talent. On NBC beating the all star game you hear about this And. Again that's Joe buck Well me we're talking yesterday but all the little gimmicks that they added into the game and whether you like. Those are don't like those but just the idea of the fact that the game itself struggled again by certain metrics to beat out a rerun, of the reality reality show, which is a a summertime fill in primetime reality show. Matt kids like, that show but I mean it's there's a reason why some things run in. July and, some things run May, put something up yeah so test pattern but let's. Talk football for a second here because yesterday was media day for the ACC coaches in Charlotte. And Larry fedora who of course is the head coach of the North. Carolina tar heels and we are of course the Charlotte flagship of the North, Carolina tar, heels basketball and football so you can hear those games including Larry fedora and his coaches, show in the fall here on, WBZ Larry fedora yesterday several comments Jim that have gotten a lot of attention. Comments he made a or some of. Them, he made in his, mainly main press conference to everybody and then he did some follow up interviews that have gotten some attention but. The first one here I want to talk about is in this one this one the audio is better because he's speaking to everybody as opposed, to kind of aside Mike, but this one here you've heard maybe you've heard about. The Larry fedora, talking about the game being under attack it will be decline of our country I there's no doubt amongst Because of the lessons that you. Learn, the game of football Relate to everything that's going to happen We stop learning those lessons I think in some ways struggling more. Now than we ever have Are we ever going to be sofa country Not by any means But I do think, the game of football This, is a major impact on who you are So the Sports Illustrated headline generated from those statements is Larry fedora says, football is under attack and could bring down America and that was kind of a secondary point to him saying that the link between. CTE's which of course chronic dramatic concussion type syndrome some? Joan, valor Ed versus. Said, that coming from football yeah doubted. That link he he tried to put it to it, comes from. Head, on collisions which come from football everybody else he he was. Kind of try to make some points in, there there's there's little kernels of truth in there but he was so overreached, in the commentary was trying. To make that I it came up very odd, it's hard to lose a press conference kickoff luncheon but he did The way. Overreach there there are links and there's been studies, in, Chapel Hill and other places. Between obviously c. t. CTE and employers having suicides and all kinds of things happening college pro whatever the case may be, so there are studies that verified that and there is a lot more work and study to be done so we don't know everything. At this point and then the the military aspect is? What, you're talking about. Is, being the only football playing nation. Leads to us having a strong military that this all, goes down. So, will the military so will the US so he he really. Overreached in a lot of ways so again, the audio it's a little hard to hear but I think you can make, it out this is referring. To the CT comments that says okay you're just, talking about clarifications When I said I'm not sure that anything Football Now Lows to. Post Salaam assuming every sport As long as Got any kind of contact you can have that that does not diminish the fact We still safer And he went on to talk about how safe and all the things they've instituted at Carolina to. Protect the, player so he he started itemizing those things would as you, point out here you have a media day yesterday where the main point is all the coaches go in and do a, regular press conference and then they go kind of a round radio row and talk to various stations that are there..
