Fresh update on "joe biden." discussed on CNN Political Briefing

"Director this is the cnn political briefing. Here's what you need to know in politics for friday. September twenty fourth. yes what. Donald trump lost the twenty twenty election. Yes that still as true today as it was nearly a year ago over the past five months or so you may have observed this absurd circus like process that has been going on in maricopa county. Arizona that's home to phoenix and it is a county that joe biden one in twenty twenty and his win air was critical to his winning that state. The first time a democrat one arizona in a presidential contest since one thousand nine hundred ninety six so you can understand in a state that had been republican-leaning why donald trump may be smarting over his lost there. of course if you've been following the former president and his ramps and antics at all you know that he's been smarting about his loss for the entirety of the twenty twenty election but arizona was a place that his allies and supporters and some of his fellow conspiracy theorist sort of focused their attention. The senate republicans there in arizona had hired out this company called cyber ninjas to come in and do what was a totally sham audit even use. The word audit is wrong. It's like a partisan purely partisan review of the totally legitimately certified maricopa county. Vote just remember the republican governor there. Doug ducey certified the votes. That joe biden one arizona but none of that of course stopped donald trump from galvanizing his supporters. To watch what's happening in arizona. But here's the reality folks when we say facts are stubborn things. This is how stubborn they are. Joe biden got more votes in maricopa county. The donald trump. that's a fact. That fact was even so impenetrable that this entirely rigged partisan review of the vote that went through all these sort of looking at ballots in a hand count in claiming that there was bamboo in the battle. I mean the whole thing was a circus but not even that could penetrate the fact that joe biden won the county and won the state. And so we're left with this notion. Oh great finally the facts now are out there even from this partisan point of view and people will come around but of course. That's not the case and overturning. The result of the election is actually not donald. Trump's mission donald trump's mission is to continue to so as much doubt in our electoral institutions as possible for twenty twenty two and truly for twenty twenty four since we all know he's actively considering yet another run for the white house and the reality one of america's two major political parties the republican party. Donald trump's party is fully bought into this lie. I mean you may remember. Our most recent polling showed that among republicans seventy eight percent say that joe biden did not legitimately win the twenty twenty election and fifty four percent of them. Say they're solid evidence of that where no evidence exists. This is the fact. Donald trump's continued grip on. The republican party is preventing our democracy from healing nearly a year after he lost reelection. Because it doesn't stop in arizona. Folks this absurdity is spreading to other states. We saw just last week. Donald trump sent a letter to the secretary of state of georgia asking for more investigation there. Despite the fact that he lost the state of georgia we see his republican allies in pennsylvania. Trying to gear up for some kind of forensic audit and now he made a request in texas a state. Donald trump won but of course where he has enough political supporters and allies to continue this charade. The secretary of state just last night announced that they are now beginning a so called on it of the four largest counties two largest democratic two largest republican counties in texas and going to take a look at that vote there which trump is championing again. None of this. None of this has anything to do with even a scintilla of evidence that the election was fraudulent. It all has to do with continuing to sow doubt in the minds of republicans to keep that iron clad bond. Donald trump has with the voters in his party to other things to think about as you consider this moment of our democracy in crisis trump yet again. Never such a thing as a true loyalty tests there. It's only a one way street. His best buddy his lackey lindsey graham. He's now going after him. And another republican senator. Mike lee because of what. Bob woodward and robert costa a reporting in their new book. Peril that those two senators actually searched for fraud in the aftermath of the election and could find none. So what did trump say he said. Lindsay and mike should be ashamed of themselves for not putting up the fight necessary to win. These are his allies. Lindsey graham has bent twisted himself into a pretzel to please donald trump. And he can't even get the love and this comes as we just got the first subpoenas from the house. Select committee investigating the january sixth insurrection. Which of course is directly tied to the big lie and the closest advisors to donald trump including his chief-of-staff mark meadows. Dansk gavino and steve bannon. Who was clearly giving counsel to former president from the outside. They've all been subpoenaed so now we're gonna learn what did trump's inner circle no in the advance of january six because this is going to be critical as we also see that the bottom white house perhaps may be willing to forgo some executive privilege claims that trump may make we may get to. What did the president know. And when did he know it about what was going to happen on january sixth. It is that kind of true investigation and truth that hopefully will lead to healing of our democracy a clearly donald trump is doing everything he can to keep it broken for his own political advantage. That's it for today's political briefing. Thanks so much for listening. And please take a moment and be sure to follow us wherever you get your podcast. Cnn political.

"Very serious story With broke yesterday on Business Insider broken incredible story about Hunter Biden again I say incredible because it's not incredible What's incredible about this story is if the media would have done their job before the 2020 election where remember that poll in November of 2020 one in 6 voters would have changed their vote if they knew the level of corruption from the Biden family and hunters deals Remember that poll Well this story Business Insider which is covered by Fox as well At Hunter Biden is alleged now to have tried to scam Libya out of $2 million too to try to get some funds Libya had locked up released Clearly trying to pay Hunter Biden who is a grifter for access to his dad to get money's Libya felt they were owed released so they were going to give 2 million to hunter according to the Business Insider report Now what's incredible about the story What's incredible about the story is it's totally not incredible And if the media would have done their jobs back in 2020 before the election when they knew Hunter Biden was running a huge grift scam campaign with his corrupt loser dad sitting in The White House now It's likely the election would have turned down not just differently but far differently Joe Biden likely would have lost this race in a landslide But because the media worked with the intelligence agency to hide this valuable information from the public because they are corrupt they effectively rigged rigged rigged left he's like you're not allowed to say that You don't tell me what we're allowed to say You can stick that up your wazoo We say what we want and we speak the truth It is now clear as day that the FBI tried to rig the 2016 election with the Hillary Clinton campaign In fact fact the verdict is in Fact the gavels

"Here it is right here on my phone if you're watching on Fox nation at home That's my actual the photographer behind the controversial whip photos spoke exclusively to em The photographer himself is admitting there were no whips and there was no whipping This didn't happen The whipping of Haitian immigrants is a fake story That didn't stop this clown Joe Biden Here he is in the presser is about 40 seconds of him saying how the border patrol agents who didn't have whips and didn't whip anyone will pay for a whipping incident that didn't happen Check this out Given what we saw at the border this week have you failed in that promise And this is happening under rear watch Do you ever take responsibility for the chaos that's unfolding Of course I take responsibility I'm president but I was horrible what to see as you saw To see people treat it like they did Horses running over people being strapped It's outrageous I promise you those people will pay They will be an investigation underway now And there will be consequences There will be consequences It's an embarrassment but it's beyond an embarrassment It's dangerous It's wrong It sends the wrong message around the world or sends the wrong message at home It's simply not who we are Notice how he's not even remotely concerned about the message he's sending to border patrol agents while he lies about them openly and brazenly committing a whipping or a strapping on the border that did not happen

"Republican voted for it Well we got real economic growth Now we're at this stalemate at the moment And we're going to have to get these two pieces of legislation passed Both need to be passed and they'll have a profound impact According to not just joke not Joe Biden but according to Wall Street according to the IMF according to international organizations And so and then there's you know I'm going to be having a meeting today with the quad with the leaders of the leader of India Japan and Australia And we're going to be talking about Afghanistan which is a legitimate thing for people to talk about But the truth of the matter is the end of the day is we were spending $300 million a day for 20 years There was no easy way to end that And we're now still getting people out But it's really there's no picture book way to say okay the war is ended Let's get everybody out and we'll go home No words ever end it that way other than there's been a surrender and it's a totally different circumstance So anyway there's a lot I'm sure along the line that the things I could have done better but I make no apologies for my proposals how I'm proceeding and why I think by the end of the year we're going to be in a very different place Just follow up on COVID if I can.

Biden slips into political quicksand amid Haitian migrant buildup

"Starting off the show. Tonight we have a discussion about joe biden. Apparently he's doing more deportations than trump specifically deporting more asylum seekers than trump did well. Yeah we don't have the other categories of deportations as the numbers that That we came across. And it's a shocking number. I don't know the entire number. But i have here the us Moved over six thousand. Haitian asylum-seekers from the border at del rio so that's just haitian asylum-seekers just recently with you know the whip's did see that. Oh i saw that very scary stuff. There was ice agents. I guess they're ice. Sported patrol agents. Scroll on horseback whipping people catalyst. Yeah like cadillac. Wrangling them with whips and hitting them with the long whip. It looked incredibly frightening and in and scary to be in that situation with a bunch of armed men on horses attacking people who are just trying to escape the hellish life of living in haiti. And do you think the biden voters expected this to happen because the people on the left like biden love to position themselves as the friend of the immigrants they acted like trump was the worst for immigration and right immigration. I mean right. When joe biden got elected like somebody. I know got a deportation letter. Just and they're telling him oh. It's been a lot worse recently under biden. They told him that his friends sorry like his friends. That like is also a legal immigrant. Types may know some other people like that well according to the same place that you're looking here. It's says twitter account. Aj plus they're citing cnbc saying that biden is using what's called title forty two to expel asylum-seekers without a right to a hearing so you know what asylum is right. Yeah when you leave somewhere that is you're gonna die there or they're gonna put you in prison for the rest of your life or thereafter you for for whatever reason and the numbers here are just shocking. According to cnbc under trump and remember trump had four full years. And we're not even through year number one biden four hundred and forty th over four hundred. Forty thousand people were Were expelled under this title. Forty two during the trump administration and six hundred ninety thousand have been expelled under the biden administration under title forty two so that's a tremendous level of increase because if if biden is able to keep up the same amount over the next three years. Yeah he'd be like twenty four hundred weight. It was six hundred ninety thousand right now so yeah that'd be well over two million people well so you know that is just absolutely horrifying because these people if they are indeed being prosecuted or persecuted. They're going to be sent back to likely their deaths or likely to a prison cell. Yeah it's probably worse for you if you try to leave and then they find out about that absolutely it is. Let's see there's other story here from cnbc biden. Administration appeals judges order. This is from less than a week ago to stop. Expelling migrants under trump era pandemic policies. So there was a judge who said they need to stop using title forty. Two and biden is appealing so this is yet another example of how joe biden is more like trumpy than the trump haters thought. It was him when he was younger. You know he. He's always been in government office. So i don't know what his title was at the time but he was being interviewed. Probably a senator or something. Yeah and he was saying he was saying. What do people think. I care more about bosnia than haiti because it's white people in bosnia and it's you know black people in haiti and then he just went on and said well if haiti sank into the ocean. I wouldn't care just like that was his answer to that was like what is that supposed to mean. Well i'll tell you clear what it means. It means he has no empathy right to say that about another an entire group of people living somewhere on the planet to say they just if they just all died one day he would have no concern whatsoever for that and you juxtapose that against what he says while he's running for office which is to make himself seem like this all caring. Democratic Party Leaders Do Not Give a Hoot About the USA

"The word got out. The democratic party of the united states wants as many people to come into this country by any means possible as possible because they are seen as potential voters. I believe deeply deeply. I would take a lie detector test. I would swear on the bible. But i believe is ultimately divinely inspired parts of it divinely written. I would swear on that. But i believe that the democratic party heads up the average democrat doesn't give a damn about the united states of america. That is the reason. Joe biden is a good example. Kamala harris is an example. I never said this about a president vice president of the united states and yet i would say about half the country believes that they don't give a damn about this country. Don't they love power. These are nothing's both of them were nothing's and they luxuriate in the success. They have had undeserved earned nothing. It's nothing people who were. Nothing's guide us. When i when i watched chuck schumer just stand in front of cameras. Lie about people whipping. Black immigrants hearing members of congress. Say oh once again. We're watching whites whip blacks for those of us who have a voice in us. That says you know you're lying. It's very hard to understand the average democratic politician.

"Circle back. Pataki seem taken aback by peter. Ducey's question yesterday. I this is. You cannot make this up. Listen to this. Exchange has ever been to the southern border in his life. I will have to get look back in my history books and check the times. He's been to the southern been at morning and we cannot find any record of him. Visiting as president plays for instance senator or even as a concerned citizen. Why would that be. I can check and see when the last time or when he may have been. But tell me more about why you're asking because this is a president makes point when there are disasters in this country like wildfire or hurricane to go and see for himself firsthand what the needs are of the local communities so that he can have informed to make policy me do that why does he go real taxes and see what's going on well first of all peter i think. The situation at the border is the result of broken system and the president certainly relies on his experience so whether it was the work he did to address root causes as vice president his efforts when he was in the senate to support comprehensive immigration reform a steps that at a time or being done and work toward in a bipartisan way. Something that Certainly we think should be the case. Today he uses all of his experiences to inform how he governs. How approaches challenges and certainly he looks again at the last four years and the the separation of children who were ripped from the arms of their parents as a way he does not want to proceed. Gosh if they didn't have that image of parents having their children ripped from their arms. You notice they're never rip from anything other than their arms. They use the same tired talking point over and over and over and how about that. Joe biden has evidently. She said she'd get back to peter. Doocy circle back was gonna circle back. She's never circled back. She's still out in left field looking like oj looking for the real killers. She's on a search to find one time that joe biden has visited the border.

"Meghan i wanna do something. Now i regret doing. I've always liked david from. He used to be a fairly nice and influential person. he's been disintermediated from influence by donald trump. because he went crazy. I mean literally whatnot. Now you and i both have trump tattoos and so i can show them off. I can probably stand up with those people who line up in the media who've been assaulted by donald trump verbally lived to talk about it and laugh it off. David was kind of knocked off the balance beam. He's attacked you. This week is being an anti vaccine. I think you actually support vaccines like i do. I get my booster tomorrow. I'm going to Applaud when my grandchildren get back today because their mother has done a study of it and they're safe and qualified for and two of the three of them will be eligible for it. Why is david from attacking. You wrongfully liable ously. Really as an anti dr. Which carried almost slander per se business. It's kind of amusing to me. I'm definitely not an antibac- so i've said repeatedly that i'm provex vaccine. I've gotten it. My husband's gotten it. and i. i think everyone who wanted should get it. But i don't like these mandates. And i really don't like them for children and i've said publicly. I have three kids. Not one of whom is yet eligible for the vaccine. But i did lose my dad to a heart attack at age forty five and i have a heart issue and i worry about my children and their hearts because they've got a genetic predisposition to some frailty there so i'm watching the myocarditis thing very carefully and this should be a decision between their pediatrician. My husband and me and it shouldn't be forced on them. By joe biden or anybody else dr algae and there's a reason that the folks in europe have made a different decision. Our friends in the uk are not requiring twelve to fifteen year olds to get this and even when they get to be older. Sixteen they're only requiring one shot which is all the myocarditis seems to be happening after the second shot. Okay so these are the considerations but people don't consider insane our friends across the pond

"More complaining about to joe biden. And we know who he is. He is not the president of this country. He has some sort of aims ambitions to china or central america. We've gone into that many different times instead. We need to be solution-oriented. I do not like the politics of complaining. Now if you live in california. I get it. Texas is not california texas hill country. They'll secure the border. The good folks in fredericksburg texas. They won't put up with this at all. We also have to stop caring with the left and the media says about us to relevant play. Cut fifty two. But we want to show you why this camp got so big in the first place at swelled the fifteen thousand saturday morning hundreds of migrants at a time just streaming in from sudani kunia walking across the river and just illegally entering the united states without any resistance from our federal government whatsoever. They crowded on the shore and huge masses. We watched it for five six hours straight thousands coming in and eventually the only thing that stopped it was the state of texas and they literally formed kind of a wall if you will with their patrol vehicles and they stemmed the flow. They formed a wall and they stemmed the flow. Of course there's zero resistance from federal authorities. Federal authorities are under orders from the president to allow an open border society. And this really does open the question. And i've asked this question for the last couple months. And i think we're finally seeing an issue that is exposing how republicans are under prepared to deal with the actual crisis. That's happening in america. Which is how much power to the states. Actually have the federal government postures. They flex their muscles but we saw under the trump administration that the federal government backed down when sanctuary state and sanctuary city measures were passed in seattle in portland and san francisco. Los angeles what texas needs to do is create a confrontation with the federal government and the federal government will back down. Texas is the perfect place to test this out.

Border Crisis Sparks Calls for Change in Immigration Policy

"June twenty first two thousand nineteen jv pritzker signs measure to help protect illegal immigrants in illinois governor jv pritzker in june of two dozen nineteen signed three bills designed to protect illegal immigrants in illinois that would prohibit law enforcement agencies from coordinating with federal immigration authorities. Pritzker sign the keeping illinois families together. Act which prohibits local law enforcement from coordinating with immigration customs enforcement. Now this was two years ago. Why am i mentioning this. Because you have blue states by the way this is one of thirty examples of blue states that have been signing laws that prohibit police officers and local sheriffs in da's from coordinating with federal officials. That's an act of secession. That's an act of nullification saying we don't want any part of this. Federal compact and we as republicans and conservatives sat idly by like. Oh yeah that's bad. Let's keep going to the courts they've been ignoring the courts and ignoring the laws for years. And so then when one point eight million illegals come into the country to change the country permanently by the way what do we do. We beg joe biden for help. So what are the democrats do when things start to trend in a direction. They don't like they take action. The democrats have the willingness to reshape. Destroy the country. Republicans are getting there now. Some people emailed us and they said well. Charlie couldn't joe biden nationalize the national guard. It is very rare to do so usually only done with the consent of the governor and prayer pet presidents have rarely federalized a state or territory guard without the consent of the governor in the wake of hurricane katrina president. George w bush declined to take control of the louisiana's national guard due to the objection of governor kathleen blanco. But this is such an easy thing. First of all joe biden can't nationalize state troopers. Secondly he can't nationalize texas rangers. Thirdly the governor of texas would say i'm sorry what did you design a piece of paper. There's still our national guard. They're not gonna listen to you federalized nationalize i mean federalize. And so what should have been done. And what's still can be done. Is every single. Texas ranger national guard member state trooper that can be allocated should be deployed to the southern border with handcuffs and arrest authority and charter flights. Why Would a US President Do What Joe Biden Did in Afghanistan?

"Have to get serious because what's going on in the middle east so many people and i'm included are dramatically puzzled like we've never been quite this puzzled at what just happened. I mean i've been on the record. That i don't believe biden was elected and i think this stuff is gonna come out but that's a side issue. Let's say he was elected. Let's say he is the president. Why would a. Us president do what he did in afghanistan. It is utterly unfathomable to me in other words as upset as i am about it. I'm even more mystified. Because i feel like we all must be missing something. Nobody could be this incompetent. There's gotta be more to the story. At least that's my theory will. Unfortunately my book enemies and allies didn't come out in time. And i say that because as you read this book you'll see is i described the transition from president trump to president biden or. I'll just say president biden. There there he is. He's making these days vice president biden. That's probably more accurate. If you don't mind. So so. But i i actually profile him towards the end of the book because i knew everybody would be asking. What should we expect. It's going to be a sharp contrast from trump to biden's but what do we know about by right. Well there are some good things. He's the most pro israel person in the entire democratic party and using eight which is saying almost nothing. No no look. Let's be fair israel. Bipartisan point of unity. The Media Is Positively Complicit in Biden's Disaster of a Presidency

"Maddening is a hell crazed. Do you become when you see how complicit the media is in giving this president today a pass on a daily basis not holding this administration accountable for practically anything after the four years we had to endure of these hyenas and jackals going after the trump administration and everybody in it day in and day after. how how. how hard is that for you personally to witness this ben. Oh my goodness mike. I mean you talk about a contrast over the last four years to what joe biden faces every day. I mean you're right when when we were there in the white house. If president trump so much took less than five questions before leaving the room. This shouts from the press would almost be deafening. You wouldn't be able to even hear what was going on. Because they would continually asking questions claimed that he was ruining or tarnishing the first amendment or or getting rid of press freedom whereas joe biden can't barely be bothered to leave his beach vacation in rehoboth delaware to answer questions for the failures of his administration. it's total projection on the part of the press on the part of democrats. And i think it's so funny. Oftentimes what you see with the left in washington. Dc you know how certain people when they get defensive. They project their failures onto people they oppose. No no one has been more guilty of that than the democrat party with press freedom. I mean you think about for years. For four years mike they consistently accused donald trump of harming freedom of the press of damaging the first amendment of not respecting the rights oppress oliver the country. Donald trump was out there every single day during the cova crisis during whatever crisis was going on facing the press taking questions from them answering whatever they wanted to hear and the american people knew exactly where their president stood at all times and with joe biden. That's not the case you're you're right. It's absolutely banning the double standard but frankly democrats in washington would have no standards that they didn't have double

You've seen the pictures of haitian migrants camp under a bridge in del rio. Roughly twenty excuse me twelve thousand of them but now we're learning that thousands more could be on their way from columbia from panama from peru. That can triple the number of migrants in south texas. Nbc's mortgage huskies in del rio. Julia ainsley covers the vhs. She broke the story about this new group of migrants. That may be headed here. Truly at what. Can you tell us if you'd think about what has happened in haiti in the last few weeks in the last few years. It's a dire situation at home for them it is. There really isn't a home for these people to go back to stephanie. A lot of these haitians left their home country. Some around the two thousand ten earthquake others during the devastating events. They're both natural and political. That have occurred in haiti over these years. They've been living in south america. Many of them were there around the olympics. In two thousand sixteen their opportunities there have dried up. It is very hard for them to find work or find any way to feed their families and now according to internal documents that we obtained last night. Dhs monitoring a group of more than twenty thousand haitians that have all amassed northern colombia. Maybe the next group to come here. They're also more than a thousand and panama more than a thousand in peru. they're also monitoring these groups to see if they come. Thousands of haitians are gathering in other countries preparing to enter the united states. All dude to to to joe biden and his policies all due to this administration's open borders remember. "That means that his people his entire operation is really going to have to hit the ground running incredibly quickly when they take over in particular because they also have not gotten that much help that much cooperation from the trump administration in the transition. Suzanne joe biden has of course being in the white house during one previous dramatic intervention in the united states economy. When he and barrack obama arrived in the wake of the two thousand eight collapse will he be tempted towards something similar in the current circumstances or preceding more on the assumption that wants the vaccine is taking effect. The us economy will more or less sort itself out. Well it's it's a very good point. Under i mean i think there are lots of parallels here actually to what obama faced obama joe biden back into into a nine and you know even between the election on the inauguration i mean america. I'm particularly america then. The wider world was embroidered the biggest financial crisis in decades. And they have to deal with that. So yes there are a lot of parallels i think joe biden has a proven record on this and they were able to pass the tariff act. They did the the bailout fund for the auto industry hugely complex pieces of legislation. Where a lot of money involved. And that may well be the case. Again i mean the. Us economy at the figures december have been worrying. There has been worst. Jobless figures than had been expected am the signs of recovery. We saw in the late summer. You know really didn't continue as we kind of got into that second. Wave around thanksgiving time so i think the economic consequences. This you know are really not getting. Maybe enough attention here. Obviously so at the figures are overwhelming in terms of the deaths the infection rates and but there's also a huge impact on the economy. And i think we're going to see i. I believe around the world. It's it would probably accentuate this. You know the difference between the house and the have nots. If you like you know the poorer are are people who are have lost. Their jobs are in less secure. And yes we're seeing the stock market. Do very very well throw twenty twenty and a lot of people. You know hoarding cash. Essentially as saving. So these kind of issues i think are going to be front and foremost for joe biden particularly. I mentioned already because of this very strong left wing within his party. They want joe biden. Who who has been pivoting. More to the left economically i think for example compared to say a hillary clinton at the time you know four years ago and i think he has suggested you know with his pick johnny yet and his treasury secretary. She talked about for example. The need to address structural issues economic inequality along racial and gender lines in the united states describing how they are important for the economy to address that. So you know what he's going to do in terms of getting more covert relief. Package is going to be a key element of this first one hundred days in parallel to the huge logistical challenge of getting those vaccinations out trying to encourage people to get vaccinated etc and again. This is all going to depend on his relationship with congress and these are going to be. It's going to be a lot of money involved in this and Republicans in particular in the sandwich have been At loggerheads with democrats out late twenty twenty about the size and scope of a of any rescue package for the american economy and you know commentators ironic air pointing out the national dash went way up under trump a now are we going to start hearing republicans complaining about the national debt. So i think that whole aspect as i say in parallel to the the health issue is going to be a key concern for biden in the first few months presidency. Chris susanne mentioned there a couple of members of president-elect biden's domestic team we should talk about obviously the highest profile member of that domestic team which vice president-elect kamala harris do. You anticipate that she'll be a more visible and obviously engaged vice president than usual because it's going to be a very different relationship. Between her and president biden vice president biden had with president barrack. Obama perhaps ironically as things have turned out biden. wasn't really seen as a natural apprentice. successor To the much younger president he was he was running alongside whereas you already. Since there's a a feeling gathering kamla harris's president in waiting. Well i think To continue the two thousand two thousand nine parallels in in some ways. This is a sort of the reverse of that. As as you're discussing. Because i think when joe biden came into office as vice president he sort of provided the experienced the heft to the to the obama administration as the time as the sort of political establishment candidate for you know a relative neophyte in barack obama at the time and so his role You know he was. Obviously you also had before that dick. Cheney famously is maybe the vice president who really transformed the role but joe biden sort of ran with that and he was this You know incredibly powerful Very involved vice president as involved if not more involved than dick. Cheney was as vice president you know before that vice presidency often was seen as this very unimportant role and so i think in that sense perhaps looking now to kamala harris In some ways there's a reverse there because she is not the one providing the heft if you will joe biden is now even more experienced than he was back then so he will be the the fully experienced leader if you will in this campaign In this in this white house And so the question will be in that sense. What kind of room. He is willing to give kamala harris. What exactly she is going to put her stamp on In terms of us. And i think that's still a bit of an open debate. He obviously picked kamala harris because they have a good working relationship. She is somebody who was Arguably more of a centrist than some of the other candidates that he could have picked. You know she's not from the bernie sanders wing of the party. I think that was important because in wanted to pick somebody not only who was historic in terms of being a woman. I african american as well in the vice presidency But really somebody that he could have a good working relationship with in order to use her as both a trusted adviser and entrust her with leading on certain issues. So i think it will be very interesting to see how that relationship plays out and finally as you say as one point he obviously has not expressly said it but many would assume. There's a very good chance that joe biden will be a one term president and so in that sense. Yes this is. Come a harris's chance to really show that she is the one who will take up the mantle of being the leader of the democratic party of the future christchurch. Mac thank you for the moment. "It's been a whole fifty four hours since the election was called for president elect joe biden which means the pressure is already on for him to name his cabinet appointees and that comes from both moderates who supported him in the election and from the left take knowledge the progressive wing of the democratic party hunting. It goes has been covering the biden campaign for axios hans. Good morning i if we can start with what joe biden is doing as we're thinking about this battle for his cabinet confirmations where the lines being drawn look the cabinet is going to be not the first battlefield but the second and i say not the first because the first is going to be inside the white house and who gets what inside the white house and where i see. The process is that they're figuring out white house staff first and then later on they're going to figure out the cabinet. Even though these are in tandem they're going to figure out the cabinet and we won't have announcements on that maybe until december. The bigger question about the cabinet isn't the makeup. It's will the cabinet have any power or will there be this continuing trend of center in power in the white house. The end of the day a lot of the decisions are made inside the white house. And so we'll see to what extent power is devolved to the cabinet as opposed to inside the west wing. Sou- it sounds like a lot of it depends on biden's leadership style right so i wonder what's your observation about how he leads. Deliberative would be one word and he still a senator. And i think that's what we haven't quite gotten our minds around. Senators liked to talk but they also like to listen and they have a great deal of confidence in their ability to get legislation across the line. And you look at biden. He's a creature of the senate. The question is has. The senate changed and is deliberation and consensus in cajoling and horse trading. Does that still exists. So we're thinking of afc's bernie sanders of the world. How much of the pressure on joe biden is going to be public versus private. And how real is it. Oh it's a great question. I think it'll be both. And i get a us a line that i've wanted us for while we don't know if there is going to be worse than their bite the other question is if he doesn't have the senate he's got a perfect excuse mitch mcconnell blocks and tackles for him. It's like force field and so biden can say sorry. There's no way. I can have these progressives in my cabinet because they can't get senate confirmed okay so hans amid all of this. We should acknowledge that. President trump is not conceding the election and is moving forward with trying to lift gate the results. How much does that factor into the energy. This president-elect biden's transition team is facing it does because the transition have all the energy in the world but until they get to go inside the agencies and look at all the books and try to figure out what's happened there somewhat hampered. They're not allowed to go in until the gsa declares victory for biden and so far. The gsa hasn't done that so gsa the general services administration one would that happen unclear. The head of the gsa. There's a political appointee so there may be a way for the trump administration if they totally let litigation in the way of a smooth transition to slow by down nichols covers. "Joe Biden is trying to do something similar and in speaking of FDR, how does Joe Biden's agenda to build back better with trillions upon trillions of spending compared to the platforms of previous presidents Democratic or Republican so it's it's just a massive agenda in terms of of dollar amounts I think his green energy. Plan alone is about twice the size of Obamacare in terms of tenure spending, which is remarkable. Obamacare was a major achievement and he's proposing several plans that dwarf it and size. I haven't done the exact math with the new deal but I suspect you would come up with something similar. The the new deal in dollar terms is is not as large as you would think, it's the regulatory structures and new agencies that they set up that that we remember it for I. Think what's different about Biden is especially in comparison to FDR. Part of by people admire FDR and we remember him. The way we do is that he tried everything that he saw this world historic crisis and said, I'm not just going to set up one government agency that hires people to do public works. I'm going to set up like five of them and have five people I trust, run them and see. Who Wins a he called it bold persistent experimentation and I don't see that as much with Joe. Biden. He has a handful of things that he wants to do. There's less of a throw everything at the wall and see what sticks approach, but it is similar in in the kind of grandiosity of the plans and the scale of spending that he's imagining..

We are better get on his doll trump for what he said they caused. The Republicans are not going to do it. If you cut on Fox Donald Trump can do no wrong now. If, you're thinking that if Joe Biden picks a black woman for VP, then that'll mean that black people are thinking that. What's the Black Agenda? Let me for want everybody about something. You cannot run for the presidency of the United States with a black agenda. They are not going to allow that because you are the president of the United States of Obama to enter that you. You talked about coming here some specifically for black people. You'll get ran about a here. And why folks not going to accept that and black folks ain't going to believe so. I I think they will the fact that they elected president twice I think America would accept A. Vice President that's just my thinking. Talking. who were critical of Obama because he didn't have more of a specific lack agenda? Jay I was just saying that I don't think you can expect him to pick that. Because DNA, it'll show black agenda. I think the problem that this is what I'm afraid of in this country, we because of the election of Donald Trump because of the potential re-election of Donald Trump with all that he's done. That's so not representative of what you want as a leader of this country. That how many followers he really have if I think. That outlook, a vote for scholley will in a heartbeat. But I'm afraid that White America will run from a black woman because let me tell you why I'm saying that. Because are going to be Oh, no, not before one of us. And, then you're going to get a black woman and white men I just don't know how they vote for have her run. Our country because there is steel. Steel sexism in the mind of men. I just don't think Morocco. We'll do it, but if they get on this ticket, the Steve Harvey Morning Show go push like Champs oh absolutely. But a lot of people said that about Obama was about. America read, it would be a big help to his running for president in terms of the black vote. The black if I think he put himself in a corner by saying that now. "Or wherever the rotates you on the iheartradio APP. Well we all know former vice president. Joe Biden has been trending in the news. Don't we don't we don't walk? I receiving a lot of backlash for his previous morning. Show common saying if a black voters vote for trump. Then they ain't black. What Biden has sense common? Say he has the right to say Biden has since apologized for his comments and said he should not have been so cavalier Also trending political news Joe Biden criticized president trump for his weekend golfer. Print hold on hold on. You know I. I understood the black comment you know. I don't think he tried to be money was talking to Charlemagne all of this man. You know who does a great job these interview? He's becoming the you know that that guy you know what I mean. Because he's really a sharp guy on stuff like they invite him on everything and You know I talked with him all the time. I'm really proud of waves become. Here's the deal. We have two choices in November. Both of them are white men in the seventies. I happen to belong to several country clubs. I have been privy to some jaw-dropping conversations in the locker room at the nineteenth hole on the course I've been privy to some conversations what you're hearing or what you heard him say is nothing nothing compared to what they say. This is just the stuff that you getting to clips of folks. Let's stop playing around here. You heard some of the stuff. Donald Trump is. See if you can tell me that. Donald Trump has not trumped that statement times fifty squared. And I got news with what he's really saying at Milagro in a golf course and in the board room is is amazing. These UH seventy some your white man now do you. Give them a pass for that. No all but you also don't give him a pass by not voting that try and not do you can't take your vote him not to and use it against Joe Biden because he said something. You didn't like which means you're like you always say Steve. If you don't provide them it's a sure. Vote for trump. Hey can I can. I say this and I'm talking to Tommy and J. Right now in June we have said some stuff amongst ourselves bit not ten not come out bet not to Gore. Does a news feed line redone? I know in the worst one was I do me. I don't know we're talking about your former marriage is all right. We're going to take a break right here and we're GONNA come right back and continue this subject Steve That's coming up at thirty four minutes after the hour right after this. You're listening to Marty morning. Show all right so Steve. Before we went to break we were talking about Joe Biden. And you know the comment. He made a black voters. Vote for trump. Then they ain't black. A lot of people were up in arms about it Upset about the fact that he said that you know he's apologized. Of course for those comments. It didn't really bother me. I knew he was trying to be funny. And trying to just talk to Charlemagne trying to make a statement Philip man like I said I have heard White Museum in the Seventies. Make some statements at golf courses in board rooms sitting around joking and man. That's nothing and then I just looked at what Donald trump is saying with. No apologies attached to anything for during. Cobbler right now. This is the one that threw me. There's my African American. Oh he says excuse me you have one but it was so right after the P. Word Calm in and find the stormy all in porno that it just get away from things that he said about immigrants this stuff but the thing about it is. I think the problem comes in is when people get mad about that statement especially black people and we decided to hold our vote back and not vote for by because he made that statement. You know what I mean back to be the problem this coming November. If the you know that's the problem served and very dangerous shallows and like you say if you do if you're not if you're holding back because you're mad at Biden then that is vote for trump. That's what that is but y'all come on. Now come on look. These are two seventy year old white man. You really. If you GONNA be mad about that one I got news the stuff. That's really been saying you. You would be devastated. Let's let's move past. Let's find something else because explain some y'all the Republican Party. Don't Nick Pick people this way? And can I say this? The one of the main reasons Joe Biden is going to be. It looks like the Democratic candidate is because he's Joe Biden and he's been known to you know say things like this when he was vice president under Obama and people loved him for now. We're nitpicking like you say now we're nitpicking the things that come out of his mouth. I think he's being extra careful. Actually I don't think he's the unleashed joe that he was under Obama. Look Hey look what he said after the after the fall for the pushback of course not. He apologized how many times donald trump apologize. Siete sat one so lane things that you forget. Y'All y'all steel. Don't forgotten that he didn't separate it all those immigrant kids from mothers. See yanna forgot about that. Y'All know that quietly. He trying to push them right on back over the border right now. Don't pay attention to this right here. He does so much stuff he's A. He's an expert at D. DEFLECTIONS. "Right now. In the wake of that accusation there was a lot of media scrutiny of Lucy Florez and the important context to remember here is that this was during the Democratic. Party's primary season when Joe Biden was just one candidate in a field of dozens right so lots of people started questioning. Lucy Flora's motivations people like Whoopi Goldberg and John McCain Daughter Megan McCain in the old days we would call Joe some folks of a certain age would say he's a little overly familiar yes but most politicians. When they're you know doing this with you and you know they are and Joe is Joe is a hands on Kinda guy. I always wonder when these things come out. What is the motive she said on? Jake tapper that her politics it was politically motivated. And she says politics was definitely impetus at some point tar read as Lucy. Floors was getting attacked by Particularly some high profile commentators show called the view which is kind of a popular daytime. Show over here She came out said look. I was former staffer for Joe by us to do that to me. A meeting would run his fingers through my hair struck a neck. And so you know. I believe Lucy floors. I think that you know what she's saying is true. And this is back in two thousand nine hundred and that was that was the extent of what Tari came forward with that is that is basically the extent of what she came. Forward with Biden issued kind of blanket. General apology to all women get ever touched in an uncomfortable way. Kind of apologized for his over. Familiarity is his lack of respect for personal space and he moved on from there. I hear they're saying I understand it and much more mindful. That's my responsibility responsibility. "So the story starts with a pretty graphic account. I related by Tara Reid on a podcast called the Katie help show at the end of March. It happened all at once. His hands were on me underneath my clothes and Yeah and then he went. He went down my scrape at the up inside it. Penetrated me with singers. And when I pulled away he Got Finished doing what he was doing. House pullback and he said he said come on man heard you liked me so tar raid is just the latest woman to accuse Joe Biden of inappropriate behavior. There are seven other accusers. Who are already on the record. But her accusation is the most detailed. And it's the most serious to hear a story and Biden's response to it so far we looked up Ryan Grim. He's The Washington bureau chief at the news and investigative website the intercept and he actually spoke to tolerate. Who is Tara Reid? And what is the essence of her allegation? So Tara Reid is a former congressional staffer to Senator Joe Biden. She worked for him in the early nineteen nineties and she has two separate allegations which is one thing that has made the entire conversation so confusing here in the United States. I'm sure elsewhere. The first Came out in April of last year when Lucy. Florez is a Nevada. Politician said that Joe Biden before an event where she She was speaking and he was all. He was there as well. rubbed her shoulders. Tra- stroked her hair. Gave for this long kiss on the Ahead and snifter hair and it was all quite uncomfortable and through offer game. She founded creepy and so she came forward. April twenty nineteen very unexpectedly and nowhere feel Joe Biden. Put his hand on my shoulders. Get up very close to me from behind. Lean in smell my hair and plant a slow kiss on the top of my head as a person that had absolutely no relationship with him afterwards as a candidate who was preparing to make my case for why. I should be elected elected the second in command of that state to have the vice president of the United States do that to me so unexpectedly and just kind of out of nowhere. It.

Make it look like Biden accidentally stumbled over his words and endorsed trump flagrantly edited totally dishonest promoted by trump. I saw that video posted four times by four different Bernie supporters. What's wrong what you paypal? And the video now has more than six million views for the love of God. You know before posting something negative something questionable take some. God Damn time to check the source and ask yourself what good it's doing. I am so fed up with I've seen so much hate on Biden and this is a big one. It's not just this video. But frankly does pissed me off to know that Bernie supporters are doing Russia's work for them doing rush shine trump's worked for them but other things comments on his cognitive ability. He's clearly in decline and Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. What are you talking about? You know like that is so unnecessary and wrong. And what good is it doing? He's probably going to be the nominee so unless you want trump to win. What good is that doing? By the way Bernie. Sanders is older than Joe Biden and just had a heart attack. So what are you doing talking about ageism? What good is this? Doing Nah eight is doing no good for anyone but trump and maybe Russia and by the way to all these people out there saying that Joe Biden is clearly in cognitive decline. He's got like dementia. He's he's in bad shape. I WanNa play a little something.

"Again. It was at the Hamptons summer gala held by the Greek Orthodox Church surely heard regardless. We were both there and get this. I'd actually seen Joe Biden there before maybe three or four years ago and frankly he was gregarious energetic almost operatic in his speech patterns but this last time I saw him which was just a few months ago he was looked. Kind of slow muted. I mean people could hardly hear him even with a Mike which has never been a problem for Joe Biden and honestly it did worry me and it kind of it made me kind of sad and it did affect my view on him as a candidate but regardless that all changed last. Tuesday that all change. How did it chain? Why did it change? Well let's talk about it. So before. The voting ensued on Super Tuesday. Virtually all polls and news outlets agreed that even the best case scenarios for Biden would have likely ended up with him trailing Bernie Sanders in the overall delegate count even if at the end of the day he was trailing Bernie by fifty seventy may be even one hundred delegates that still would have been considered a good night for Biden. Well folks all I said as I sit here ladies and Gentlemen Joe Biden Leads Bernie Sanders by a total of ninety one delegates ninety one. That is not a small number now. How is that possible? How could that be? They said the best case scenario was well. Frankly four Joe Biden. A miracle took place. Biden collected a bonanza of important endorsements two Saturdays ago after a landslide victory in South Carolina. Pete Buddha judge he dropped out. I like two days before Super Tuesday. Which really bothered me. He had been my candidate. I still think he would have been great. Then Amy Klobuchar dropped out in both endorsed Biden. Then on Super Tuesday Joe Biden went out and won ten of fourteen states. I won't say that again. Ten out of fourteen.

"Each episode. You'll hear Democratic presidential candidates. Make their pitch as they interview for the biggest job of their career every election year. The board chooses a candidate after closed-door off the record interviews and a lot of internal debate but the stakes are so high twenty twenty and we think voters deserve to hear how we decided on our as the best candidate to Donald Trump. So we're giving you access to these conversations and the debates that followed so you can make the choice for yourself to learn more about how the board works and WHO's on it. Go back and listen to episode of this series. We've trimmed each of these interviews down but if you'd like to read the full transcript you can find them on NY TIMES DOT COM backslash endorsement. That's endorsements an our last interview was the current front runner who undoubtedly has the most name recognition former vice president. Joe Biden big moment here for vice president former Vice President Joe Biden. He just released that announcement when making it official saying he is running for President Delaware elected Joe Biden. It's senator at just twenty. Nine years old he was immediately tapped as promising White House material pundits mapped out the earliest presidential election. He'd be eligible to run in vice president. Biden's first attempt at the White House was in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight when he ran to be the youngest this president since John F. Kennedy at forty five years old but his campaign flamed out fast when he was found to be plagiarizing political speeches. This time around. He's campaigning to be the oldest president. In American history. Running on his six terms of Senator in eight years as Barack Obama's vice president previous presidential campaigns aside Mr Biden has had had one of the most decorated political careers of anyone in the field as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He played major roles in the contentious Supreme Court. Nominations of Robert Bork. And Clarence Earns Thomas in the Nineteen Ninety S. He helped write and pass. The Violence Against Women Act the first legislation of its kind to put federal resources towards combating domestic and sexual violence. But Mr Biden also wrote and passed the tough on crime laws that have contributed to our era of mass incarceration. He's since walked back his stance and called the crime. Bill quote A big mistake in more recent years however Mr Biden played an active role in the passage of the affordable. Care Act during his time as vice president and like Senator Amy Klobuchar and Peop- Buddha judge edge. Mr Biden is more centrist option in the party advocating for civility in politics and getting things done through a bipartisan strategy. His twenty twenty campaign has had a number of stumbles along the way but many were glass. Voters see him as one of their own we wanted to dig deeper into Mr Biden's policies and some moments on the campaign trail that have given US pause. We apologized for the audio being rough at times we recorded in a glass room overlooking the beautiful Port Authority. Bus Terminal using wireless mics that are great for television but not ideal for podcasting uh-huh and heads up at a few points out the interview. You'll hear a cell phone alert. Go off as Mr Biden has some difficulty. Silencing he had with him semester vice president. We're hoping to ask you a few questions that we haven't really heard you answer on the campaign trail yet. Mister Vice President Why don't you support reparations? As for Black Americans do support reparation black Americans and the best way to get reparations for black Americans and systemic segregation and it's real and it's genuine. I spent my whole career. Doing the first thing I did. As a young councilman lawyer was to fight redlining. And so I think that the reparations argument and debate is worth people investigated in it. But how do you make a judgment in the meantime. There's a lot we have to do right now. Now to deal with the original sin of America which is slavery and so. I think it's much more productive to move quickly on everything from access to education to loans on why in God's name is a situation where you can own a home exact same home on one side of the street which is predominantly black and. You're on the exact home across the street was predominantly weight and your home when we values less than your insurance costs more. It's wrong there's a a whole range of things we can do legislatively now to deal with this stomach. Racism still exists. You said during the September debate when asked about reparation that black parents prince should among other things. Make sure that you have the record player on at night. House specifically should the country confront. Its history of slavery discrimination and Klunder black-americans taking that out of context. But that's okay actually. It wasn't out of context. Okay the idea is that responsibility rests on those who are still engaging oppression to stop what they're doing and pay for what they've done if it's criminal criminal and if it's not criminal pay for it economically and change the law. I remember how much trouble brock cut in. When he said that the parents black parents should take responsibility? That wasn't my. That wasn't my point. My point was to make it clear that there are a number of things. We can do now now to help. Parents who have been disadvantaged as a consequence of lack of opportunity to be able to provide more guidance nsen better guidance from themselves in their families. For example we have One school psychologists for every fifteen hundred seven kids in public schools. It's ridiculous Nicholas. Is there anything that you have changed your mind about related. I would say to your record where you're thinking your personal views on race or for busing or anything over the years on race or Bussey because you know. I think you've all been kind of shocked. How much black support I have and I've never urban shamed of anything I've done? I've fought for the African American community and fought for them. I tire career. I made a big mistake and the criminal justice US decide when I it's easy to forget it now but you know all of a sudden crack was introduced as a great threat to the United States of America and you had medical medical folks that will crack go straight to the brain is going to have this long-term effect so we bought onto the idea. That crack somehow should be punished. Much much more significantly than in fact powder cocaine. Well what it meant was somebody snorting powder in the part of you guys go to. I don't mean you got to me but wealthy neighborhoods if they were to get arrested which they don't in the first place but very get arrested they get a sense of one hundred times less than someone is getting convicted for crack and so from the time we passed that two years after I've been trying to change it and do it brock and I got what a down to a ten to one from one hundred to one. It should be zero but it's had a disproportionate impact on minority communities particularly African American communities. I sorely regret that and we've also learned a lot more about drug abuse overall. We used to deal with it in terms of we thought that men laws was a product of drug. Doug abuse it's the reverse mental illness is the reason for drug abuse. One of the things I had wanted to ask you about. Was You've called for rescheduling marijuana so that scientists can better study. It's therapeutic potential. Virtually all of your opponent's have gone further and actually called for full legalization at the federal level. Can you make the case to me for wide to take more moderate approach. When when it's I think science matters I mean one of the reasons I'm running against the guy running against is you know? Science matters not fiction. When I'm arguing is there have been studies showing that it complicates other problems if you already have a problem with certain drugs and so we should you just studying and decriminalize it but study it and find out? Get the medical community to come up with a final definitive answer as to whether or not it does is causing a does cause other problems then make it clear to people. So that's a place you don't engage in the use of it but many states have already legalized. I get that. But that doesn't mean the sciences. It shouldn't be looked at couldn't you promote the science and legalize it at the federal level in tandem. No why would you promote the science. If the science would say we'd be bad idea to legalize it got to find out the facts first but let me get some straight here. I've argued for some time. Total decriminalization anyone who has a record it should be immediately expunged so when you come to work for New York Times. They ask if you have any problems. You don't any criminal arrest you don't have. I have to say yes because it will be completely expunged it and anyone who is in fact has been serving any time in prison or is in prison or Supreme people are these days is that they immediately be released and the record totally expunge a as the second oldest Democratic candidate. Mr Biden has highlighted some of the generational national gaps in his ability to relate to younger. Voters like millennials. He's even got as far as to say. He had no empathy for their generation's problems. Mounting student loan debt naturally we asked asked him to put that in context. You've expressed very little interest in entertaining. millennials concerns and complaints about the problems that they face whether it's student debts. Well you have said I have no empathy for its. Give me a break in terms of like things that they've been concerned about with the way in which the older generations have more or less made things worse for them as generation. So do you think that millennials have less of a burden. It's a straight okay. When I said I had? No sympathy about was made a commencement speech. I don't know which was either Yale or Harvard than back to back. Two years and the study came out showing that although there was the most generous most progressive most involved generation ration- history the best educated which I pay tribute to because I have three granddaughters are all part of that in. My daughter is a social worker. The master's degree doing great work etcetera. Cetera it also said something like only sixteen percent of young millennials would in fact run for public office so I was at a university and they I said well why should we get involved all dirty so I want to hear it. Don't wind me. I got the same lecture in one thousand nine hundred seventy you too. When I was in the middle of the Vietnam War where I got? The same thing was told in one thousand nine hundred sixty five when I got involved the civil rights movement. I don't get involved but you gotta get ball. Some could argue that. You're sort of painting a broad. Brush of the millennials. You have the I was answering questions. The question was why. Why should I get involved? I said because it's your responsibility. You have a responsibility. So do you think that This younger generation as a whole is not participating enough and they don't have the same burdens as previous generations. Know what's happening is awaken. The the point I always make is if in fact the generation between eighteen and thirty voting the same percents above thirty there would have been five point two million more votes cast last year. And we wouldn't have this president we have we wouldn't have it. They sat home then getting ball. And I hi come from you. Don't say well that's your choice. That's okay don't lecture me on responsibility. Not You don't have in lecture me on responsibility and did not participate when I got involved it was like dropout goad haight. Asbury don't get involved literally across the board you don't trust anybody over thirty and all of a sudden got so damn bad. A generation set.
