"So you have all these things and you put them all away. But what did we gain from that? Well we've gained a lot. We've made a lot of memories together because it kind of refocused is everything and we spend more time together doing stuff. More time talking. Because there's less distractions for sure and less space like we're not not that are locked was huge or anything but like you know back then like I could be in one room doing something you could be in the other room doing something and it's nice. That things have gotten cozier with less distractions and we do more stuff together. Whether it's watching and without the we meet New People Talk to New People because we don't have much within. Rv We definitely push ourselves out. Just talk to more people and visit and explore more too. Yeah I feel like we've made a really broad network of acquaintances and even friends across the country. Which is really nice and comforting. Because that was a big struggle was just leaving that social safety net of Chicago innocence and then in the PA- the subsequent like year and a half like making connections with people all over the country and being like now. I don't feel so tied to one place. I feel much more comfortable. I feel like Albuquerque's my backyard. I feel like Portland is my backyard. Orlando obviously lander comfortable. Yeah these are all places That are just amazing and I remember when we were in Nashville We met a couple Cameron in Germany From Atlanta and they became great friends. this past. Thanksgiving we actually spent things friendsgiving with them in Atlanta because we are in Atlanta and we were. You know where you're working and making sure to try to connect with people and so we've made these great friendships at travel. We did not meet him in Atlanta. So it's weird that we would just be in Atlanta now where friends and we went out multiple times. Who met their friends And it's just it's really inspiring. The things that you gain aren't exactly physical items. They are relationships there. People are relationship with Earth with national parks. Oh yes with wildlife and ecology and all these brutal aspects of what it really means what life means. Yeah and within two like. That's a big night in Chicago. Yeah we didn't ever take him like downtown or anything. We didn't go sightseeing within. He all he really got to do. And See was explore the neighborhood and wander around. There's a park at the end of the Block. Which is lovely but like not much change. He would just do the same thing. And when we were in Portland Maine watching him he was just it was full of wonderment and yeah he's seen so much and we've done so much with him and his enthusiasm is very clear you re he has a very emotive face in. You can see it. We want a couple hikes with him in Acadia National Park in Maine and not only. Did he hold his own? He you know tiny little dog with little legs was able to walk for miles but he was scrambling and like in and out of Little Rock and along the shore and that was blown away and it really inspired me. I'm like wow your enthusiasm it's beautiful like I feel like I'm closer to the meaning of life than ever been. Yeah that's just thing being people seeing it through thin meeting people talking with people doing something for somebody else. And that's what I feel is done for us for so long and now it's nice to see that for him that makes me happier than any monetary value out there just seeing something done for somebody else or seeing somebody's energy spike because they're in love with the world in nature. Yes it's a wonderful thing and that's been a really rewarding aspect for sure you've been listening to park land. "City. I know I'm thrilled to talk about this. Next section which is about West Yellowstone sonus. Dulger love it. It's such a cute little happy. Hamlet it's one of the main kind of entry areas to the park. It's in actually Montana. Sliver like the portion of yellowstone. That's in Montana. Like far. North Western Wyoming and then Westerns is bustling tourist town in the summer. I'm sure it's completely quiet in the winter. If anything's even open at all but yeah yeah. So this was my second time in West Yellowstone. Your first and I was so stoked to be back here and come back with you and revisit all my favorite places that I went to with my family. It's so great. Yeah what's yellowstone is really a beautiful place There's so many places that you can walk to. Yeah I remember that we actually we actually walked over and saw Spiderman. Yes the news spiderman in AMAC's there's like an Imax theater randomly in sales down and that was a great great setting to Spiderman. Whatever that far from home at that because it's just really you know one. We're going to national parks. We also have to take like brakes from it and just get other entertainment just to in the evenings and this is like perfect. Go see a movie. Go eat at a restaurant which we had a couple of different restaurants and they've had a good variety of restaurants here considering how small the town is and it's really only like ten block radius of town. But we definitely made the rounds. Some we liked better than others. I think we'll just say bat like long story short. You probably shouldn't eat French restaurants in West Yellowstone. No this one I remember asking them. suggests them for wine and like read. I'm like Cambridge tomorrow please. Oh you don't even know got it so if you're a French restaurant and you know nothing about wines. You probably shouldn't be a frustrated French restaurant and let's be honest because it wasn't cheap like I got like a butternut squash Ravioli and that was like twenty two bucks and so like I'm spending a lot of money. I want you to know what you're serving me but you could see was a disorganized mess And I I. I'll tell you this that being the food writer and the family and the one that like goes out to restaurants all the time I think I'm more of the food critic you actually are GonNa call. I'll be honest softened a little over the years now like I. It's outright off all all I try to find the silver lining certain places. And I'll be like well this good or like this part is cute. Although I don't remember finding many redeeming factors that this place. I guess like the people were Nice. They were played. No that was That was difficult to say the least and it's weird because it's fortunately weekends so you know that it's GonNa be busy so it's like you know just up your game a little bit. Yeah please please try. We also tried to go to a Japanese restaurant because per usual. We're constantly craving Sushi and even in the weirdest places but we can't go too long without having Sushi so we just locked up in desperation and found this Japanese restaurant that looked promising but like we walked in and there was just like no one there at all. There was a few lake teenager looking people standing waiting to be seated or something so. I don't I don't know if we just opening or something but I didn't WanNa wait. Trevor because we waited ten minutes nothing so you know but then we walked over to bowl winkle saloon. Now that was perfect they're attentive. They're fantastic. They have like a saloon liquor store and a sit down restaurant and we went back there multiple times because we felt welcome every single time. Yes and their food but they had a diverse mix of food like a lot of regional. Specialties like Bison Burgers and Ravioli and then plenty of surprises. Welcome surprises like. They had a chicken Wellington. I had missed my first experience with Zucchini Noodles Aka zoodles. And first of all would never expect to find that in west yellowstone know doodles and especially not good like this was great. It was Delicious like you said. Prompt service very friendly which honestly ninety percent of the reason why I go out to a restaurant service like I want. I want good service so you are a service industry. So they know what they're doing and we really appreciate that so shout out to bowling and every all go down West Yellowstone National Park. You have to go Check in with them and grab a Huckleberry Margarita or go gamble in their casino Gulf. Absolutely sit down restaurant frequent them because they're really good. Yeah and then You know there's that other place a friend of ours Gary Miano from Montana. He actually told us to go to fire whole Barbecue Because it has the best barbecue in yellowstone that was solid really solid I remember we got in. We ordered our barbecue. And you know it's not like Institution it is a new play but you can definitely see that there know what they're doing And we got our food and we sat down and we sat next to do park rangers. Yeah basically I mean in our mind. They're celebrities so we were sitting next to a couple of celebrities like abs basically like the Brittany Madonna celebrities to guys. I guess maybe Elton John and Freddie Mercury his dad right so they're still celebrities here all right so I guess back into the Park Rangers. They were amazing. They were really fun. I remember there was the younger one and he was talking about how his friends are coming. He's going back country camping with them and he was just as excited as we were. And that's what I really love. That are park. Rangers are just as excited to explore these beautiful national parks that they're an all the time like they're tourists stars just like us. They gig out over barbecue just like us what they're humans. I surprised as you are. No right I'm like can we're going to go party with Bryant Park Rangers. Ooh Party with Park Rangers. Let's start this once a year event. I'm into it. And when we come back from this short break we'll talk. With our researcher Jocelyn Shields more about the ecology and Wildlife National Park.

"And I'm Brad this park gland era and today we're talking about Yellowstone National Park. We'll tell the listeners brad about when you down and you're going to get closer to the Bison Oh man I was in the car and I was rolling I have video going yeah I was walking towards the Bison and all of a sudden tim shouts I shall Brad be careful. They'll charge you and I just turned around and said that's okay. I got money and I started walking down towards the Bison and of of course this was all staged. Don't don't think I'm complete idiot was all stage. It's really fun That's a that's a video that we put up and people really like nerds Dorks just like making fun of us because they know that's just how we we got. We got a ton of hits on that everybody seemed to like it. You know it was so much fun. But and that's the thing about yellowstone. There's just so much to do and after that we went on over to grant Village to the campsites and we ended up getting the last campsite. Yeah that's right and all of a sudden I see two people walking with you. What had tim do this time time because he meets everybody and I love it? Yeah but he brought back. I'm Daniel and the Tasha Hano Yeah Canada and and what they were on a cross country trip yes under motorcycles right like three weeks right everything that they had was on those those two motorcycles and they were camping that kind of and they made great company around the camp. Oh you know at night just had so how many great conversations and I remember even you inviting them to pinedale where we went after yellowstone. We stayed on that lake Fremont Fremont Lake and they camped with us there and so we met these people shared campsite and then just kept on traveling with them and that's the beauty of the road right and that's when I just lost it I'm like map. We gotta do this. Yeah Yeah and Matt's back at home and it's like yeah right and then like I think I think after the third phone call one day like Oh what about this one. What about this one? That's Matt started freak out. I'm like okay. This is a happening again. Yeah Yeah and then thirty days later we're buying an RV right and we're getting ready on the road and all that kind of stuff but it. That's for another APP. You guys. You guys moved fast on that I my wife and I were like the guys are doing it. Can you believe that. They put their loft on the market. They're selling everything and going on the road trip and I just two weeks and just changed everything in the loft flipped it. We went on our first Test and that's that's the beauty of it. That's the road. Though we were able to do in yellowstone and and you know driving across the country and I mean that your I drove across country multiple times for work and it was one of those amazing experiences where it just really Lee inspired me. I said if I can do it this way and our visa can be cake. Yeah and of course she's inspired from the badlands. Yeah very much so so these these places and then when you combine that with the RV lifestyle and it all fits together so so well. And I'm so glad that we did it and now we're doing wing it absolutely and you know the memories with Tim. Burton here. Burns may put farm have been huge in our life He's inspired us and many others across the United States to travel to enjoy life. He was even the efficient at our wedding So this guy he. He married us. Yeah and over. Spilt beer in my lap was asked Out To dinner I was in Chicago. And and the FELLAS does ask me. Hey We'd like to take you to dinner and I said Great. I'm always up for a free meal and of course I didn't know if I was going to be buying that neither but anyway so we've never turns is out you buy it so we went to Publican in Chicago. And so we're you know small talk just chatting about our days and things like that and then Matt looks at Brad. What's this will? Aren't you gonNA ask and Brexit. Oh yes so matt and I have been talking. We'd like to get married goal. And we'd like for you to officiate. Our wedding and it was just silence. Because that's one of the that's one of the nicest things for somebody somebody to ask you to do is to bring them together type of thing and I was speechless. I'm never speechless speech. I said we'll yeah. Well thanks Brian. I I was speechless. I guess I'm not a preacher. I'm not a priest. I'm not a minister. And they go. Oh that's okay. We got that figured out. There's a you can go online and get your license Through what is it. Universal Universal Life Church Universal Life Church. I'm a card carrying member as well. Yeah and so I went to shake. Brad's hand I and I said I dumped the beer. In my it was your land in your lap. So officiate so it could have been. That bad. Just had to kristen me with beer. Yeah yeah so that was that was that was great you know the yellowstone experience was a great experience. Not For just me personally in terms of what I got out of it As far as like the fishing and the beauty and that kind of thing but it elevated My relationship with Brad and my relationship with Benjamin as well because we were experiencing something together I don't say this loosely and I've only said this to a couple of people but And again I don't want to sound too dramatic but this is the type of experience with Brad that kind of has elevated it To the point where it goes beyond just being an employee of mine It's almost like a father son relationship Especially for me because I grew up fishing In the eastern Sierra with my family and when I sit back and I see our fishing experience whether we you know on video or pictures and things like that that it it really Brought me closer to Brad Because of the experience that we had together like that and it was the same way with Benjamin but with Brad It was for me. It was like a father son excursion outing. And that's all I'm going to say about that because I don't want I get choked up and then I completely agree with that. It's one of those times where it's just. You had the time to process it as your away from everything you know. Have all the technology your hands and you're able to really look at each other and just enjoy each other and I even shared with you like I didn't grow up fishing right and shoot dude. I probably had to pull my hand less than the Mount of fingers on my left hand. Yeah like there's just no time that expend on that and I felt like a little kid and it was one of those experiences where it was really amazing time and I knew that because you told me you. He really didn't have any experience with fishing and I was like. Oh my gosh you. And that's too bad because there's so many great memories that I have and I was was hoping that that's you would walk away with that. Great Memory I definitely. Yeah and even within that I mean after that when I was Jumping into this. RV lifestyle. Like whole body. I I mean there's there's nothing left behind If I needed something you were there if you if we needed help getting the right trailer hitch or anything you you lead me through that in a way to where to not make the same mistakes you might have made. Taylor's I'm I'm I'm a believer in learning from other people's mistakes. Yeah there's no reason to try to reinvent the wheel it just You know get the right stuff and so I appreciate that. And every every step of the way that has gotten us into this lifestyle because is without your guidance and conversations I would have had made a lot of mistakes where now I've made minimal like just dumping my tink on myself like just crappy situations nine from scituate and and now a Tim.
