"She is beloved in theater circles but maybe not famous enough to carry the whole thing like bombshell could really be don't know that's going to be an US and and farewell have awards campaigns for various elements of them but it's something that they are more visible than say her smell which God knows. I would love to be paid to be run the campaign for her smell but no one has offered it to me. I think that Aquafina I could definitely see winning a lot of critics awards and I can definitely see a a nomination for her. I'm I'm not counting her out I just don't know that she's like tip top of the category. Yeah thanks Richard if you're voting from critical Marley. Who would you vote for from US Yeah Yeah. I mean who knows maybe that's. What does it like. It's like critics. Awards have invented Oscar campaigns before no it's true and I don't no. I don't think that we should count anyone out at this point. It's only October first. We're recording this. Yeah I. I think that this year will be a test of if campaigns have any efficacy you know like because there's a lot of stuff earlier in the year that smaller that was regarded well but not enough to be a phenomenon onyx. Cetera et CETERA and and yet those names still sort of hanging in the air in certain rooms when you talk to people who are voting for various things so I don't know we'll see if these campaigns can can you know push those things back into the consciousness well enough or if again that sort of just like inertial will set in people at just rubber stamp it for Rene because you know I think I think it would be a deserving win absolutely yeah but it could happen or not happen. Depending on how sort of preordained preordained it seems to people where what do we think is the most crowded category is at best actor like is that the pretty crowded yeah the lakes looking at looking at the experience her friend didn't they know. Rogers says he's Great Lists Like Adam Dr Joaquin Phoenix Antonio Banderas Christian Bale Eddie Murphy Lear DiCaprio Adam Sandler Jonathan in price then you get to Robert Deniro on this list like that's a lot of people and then you know Taryn Edgerton who would be you know I think deserve launch campaign and may have one but like would sandwich chance and any other year yeah. I don't know I know well. I know this was our week to talk about best actress and I'm just curious really quickly af like what is the nail biter this year. I guess we'll get to that later so I feel like last year. Olivia Colman's win like shook. The ground of what actress is is more than we give it credit for like it was such a satisfying win in so many ways but it made no sense based on all of the Oscars. We were telling ourselves so it makes me wonder for like chasing her entails a little bit that we don't know nearly as much as we think we do Co.. Like constantly are narrative battle but maybe we have no idea what we're talking about we'll it doesn't the Coleman Winfield kind of the function of what Richard was talking about in terms of like this weird behind the scenes thing that happened with best actress for you had like Gun Glenn close is tying it about like a you know at a previous award ceremony and then like you know it feels like a vote split thing that happened right like yeah knock on Livia Coleman winning. She's frigging great. I'm so glad she has an Oscar but that feels like a weird vote split and like the power of performance or a movie that people really love it. Was that the only award that the favorite one or maybe yeah so like you know the idea people kind of going in and knowing they don't have anywhere else like maybe an inclined is hard to know how you think when you're feeling at about like that but she was a great representative of the movie. Obviously I'm fascinated to see what happens when little women hits and it's so fun that it's like this bomb waiting to the drop the best very good from people who know people who are going to see it who were not allowed to talk about at least tell us that they like it so yes it on second and the first time I heard from someone who'd seen it and said it was good. I'd like the relief I felt was so immense because I've been counting on this movie so hard. I forgotten that went on a got. Winona Ryder got an Oscar nomination for playing Joe is a great movie. I mean that's the thing I I hope that people don't forget how good that ninety four version is in the wake of all the the new movie. 'cause that's really great. We'll next week. We're going to go deep on best actor. my idea was to kind of acting category each week this month to go on and we'll have a lot to talk about out after revolting joker so stay tuned for more of that in the meantime you can find US Advani Dot com which is also where you can find the Joaquin Phoenix cover story and lots of other great stuff from all of us you can find us on twitter at Goldman and on our own. "We're maybe close to the end of it any other big categories you guys are excited about any bold predictions you WanNa make I wanNA talk just a second about reality host. Oh yeah that's right because you know it was exciting. I believe it was last year that Rupaul Charles One and drag race one for reality competition program and that was very exciting you know after like almost a decade of of kind of guerrilla cult support for that show it finally broke through the the membrane of of public consciousness is <hes> and this year Rupaul is likely to be nominated again alongside Allen for her really cruel game show where she makes people do stupid things for money and laughs at them. <hes> it's really it's really like it's like it's like bread. It's it's like something got ancient Rome. It's it's crazy. I had no idea yeah it's sadistic <hes> Jane Lynch for Hollywood game night and then interestingly Amy Poehler Nick Offerman for making it which was really cute kind of you know I don't know what you craft series sort of and then well they're just listed as queer eye and then prince for queer eye like so the the the the Fab five would be nominated as one unit and could potentially upset Rupaul or whoever else <hes> which you know. I don't know so that that narrative I think is kind of interesting you know the the emmys were slow to diversify their reality categories and now they're <hes> you know they're actually rewarding stuff that people seem invested in which is nice. I just don't know why Jerry Condo doesn't have more Emmy Buzz. That's a great question. I actually just imagine what she could honestly. I just like to see her on the red carpet. She'll be there anyway but but do you think she would like hold onto her statue or get rid of it. That's crazy thing like handed to somebody on the stage like let it go from her life. Well as I said we're going to be back to talk about the nominations as they come in a next Tuesday Richard Joel. You'll be off in Los Angeles <hes> receiving your Emmy. I believe is how that works so yes so congratulations anyway. We'll be back to talk about all of that hot and in the meantime you can find some fanfare dot com with <hes> the emmy predictions from you guys that will be going up later this week as well. You can find us on twitter at little gold men and on our own I met Katie rich Richard and Joanna Jerus-..

"That's one of my favorite making of a movie documentary moments is is watching that animator talk about watching Dick Van Dyke did the choreography than going where am I paying what's going to go and how he had to like figure frame, but it's an interesting thing. And this is this gets this is in danger of getting to super geeky. But soon the the really interesting thing is that most animators just workload wise would animate the penguin. And dancing once and then just multiply that four times with the Xerox machine or digitally, if you were doing it today, but Frank Thomas was genius. And he realized that if if you have four dancers on stage doing exactly the same dance with perfect timing. Each one of them is going to handle it slightly differently. One is going to raise his legs just a little bit more than the other one is gonna put a little bit more flair on the hands. And so when he animates the penguins, they're all individual they're all slightly different in the way that they do the same choreography. And that's a subtext that the Bure takes his. Wow, that's a real. That's real even though they're clearly drawn behavior that that breaks down the barrier between Dick Van Dyke and the animation. So they're all these little things that people don't really consciously notice. But. Make the moment magical, and and you know, having to geniuses together Dick Van Dyke and Frank Thomas was was great at the dancing to genius choreography and genius music by the Sherman brothers perfect. Well, okay. If still let me do my due diligence softwares back to incredible to and the Oscars. But if I ever launched a musicals podcast, I'm going to ask you back. But. Y'all here radical, you know, I've just been alone too long. Perhaps, you know. No, I I can't wait. But the the last question I wanted to ask you sort of building off what you just said is is I feel like this is one of the most creatively. Exciting years for animated films across different genres in this category alone. You know, you've got clean nation. You've got traditional hand-drawn Japanese animation. You've got motion hand-drawn. Yeah. And then a mixture of sort of techniques in spider spider verse. And so, yeah, it's exciting. And and you know, I think that that if these films succeed and get attention, then it will create an even wider open field for other films to come. You know, people will feel like they don't have to just do one style of animation that many different styles can work and be rewarding and the kind of people that are getting into animation. Now, it's it's getting it's spreading, you know, animation. When when I was a kid was really kind of dwindling, you know, and it was kind of all going to television which had to deal with really quick schedules and tight budgets, and and so the the full kind of animation that Disney was famous for was really kind of disappearing and and now there's all. All kinds of animation, you know, and all sorts of animated features, you know, the anti awards, you know, when I was a kid if you made an animated film, you got nominated because there were only, you know, two or three movies made you know in in a year. And now, they're they're twenty or thirty movies being made, you know, more more. And it's it's exciting. Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it. Thank you for indulging on my musical questions. I appreciate that. Even more. And I know I was I probably went off rail. I could talk about it all day. It's literally my fault. So thank you get well soon and have a great day. Thank you very much Joanna. Great to talk with you.
