"Now on your Wednesday morning, the 21st of December, we're at 28° now, will head up near 46 on a cold morning. Good morning, I'm Joan Jones. And I'm Nick Allan Ellie, the top local stories we're following this hour. D.C. police are looking for a man who dressed up in a makeshift police uniform, walked into a residential building and shot two people. D.C. police released several shots of surveillance video near a residential facility in the 6000 block of clay street in northeast. The man in the photos looks like a cop complete with a police badge, bulletproof vest and gray beanie, but detectives say he is not, and they're looking for him. Shortly before 3 o'clock yesterday, the fake Cobb walked inside the building minutes later, he pulled out a gun and shot a man and a boy. Medics rushed him to the hospital with serious injuries, but the fake cob is still on the run and police are offering a $10,000 reward to find him. The motive is a mystery. Gigi Barnett, WTO news. We are learning that a man in temple hills was shot and killed early this morning, and the suspect is still at large. Prince George's county police were called to a shooting on old branch avenue not far from joint base Andrews. They found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died, detectives are asking anyone with information to reach out. She's the first woman to be elected as Maryland's state comptroller. Brooke Lear man is going to take office in the coming weeks and she talked about it with WTO. If I can make being comptroller cool, I am A-okay with that. Maryland state delegate Brooklyn, who will be sworn in as comptroller next month, sees the job as much more than tracking revenues and overseeing government contracts. I fundamentally believe that the role of government is to reduce barriers and to create opportunity. To make sure that people can live their lives to the fullest and meet their God given potential. Has anyone ever compared her to Leslie knope, the character on the TV series Parks and Recreation known for her wonky devotion to public service? I have several former legislative directors who have bought me Leslie knope paraphernalia. I'm just working hard and we'll keep doing that because there's a lot to do. And the people of Maryland deserve no less cake Ryan, WTO news. Well, hey, maybe Santa wanted it this way. By this weekend, gas prices nationwide are expected to be their cheapest that we have seen in a year and a half. Guest buddy forecasts the national average price of gas to be $2 and 98 cents on Christmas Day. That's nearly two bucks a gallon lower than the peak prices of the year that driver saw in June. In our region, gas buddy says the average price for a gallon of gas today is three 32 in D.C., three ten in Maryland and two 96 in Virginia, but Patrick de Haan, head of petroleum analysis at gas buddy, says challenges remain that could drive prices back up in the spring. His holiday message enjoy these cheaper prices at the pump while you can. Michelle bash WTO P news. "Good morning, I'm Bruce Allen. And I'm Joan Jones, and our top local stories that we're following this hour, a major decision is unfolding in Prince William county right at this very moment. The county's board of supervisors is considering whether to build a huge data center complex in the Gainesville area and a public hearing on the plan started last night, it's still ongoing this morning. Every single function that we do every day requires data centers, hundreds signed up to speak with some in support. Every time you hit save on the computer for documents, pictures, videos, or watch Netflix, paying bills online, you are using data. Others say it's a bad idea. While the people that are up here that are telling you this is good for us are going to be taking their money and walking away, 95% of the people out there are not. They are angry. The plan is to convert 2100 acres of rural land into a massive data center complex while supporters say it will boost the local economy through tax revenue, opponents say they're worried it's going to ruin the rural landscape. For several months, the Montgomery county council has been negotiating a resolution on anti semitism, tensions rose last night over how to define it. There is a great deal of emotion in this room right now. We see it and we feel it. Montgomery county council president gay ball Bordeaux used his gavel more than once to call for order during a vote on a resolution designed to fight rising anti semitism. All right, thank you so much. At the root of the controversy, concerns by a coalition of groups, including Maryland's council on American Islamic relations, over whether criticism of Israel would be deemed anti semitic. Criticism of the Israeli government policies or actions do not constitute anti semitism. Critics of the resolution said while the change in language was an improvement, there should have been public hearings and more community dialog. Kate Ryan, WTO P news. Campaign 2022 on WTO early voting begins today in Georgia, a potentially pivotal state in the battle for control of the U.S. Senate. We get more from WTO's Mitchell Miller now today on the hill. Republican candidate Herschel Walker and democratic senator Raphael Warnock clashed over the state's newest voting law in their latest debate, Warnock criticizing it and walker supporting it. They made it harder for folks to use the drop boxes. They've shortened the registration times. Really, it made it easier to vote and harder to cheat. Early in person voting begins today and will run through November 4th. Turnout will be a big factor, and the Secretary of State predicts a record number of people will vote in this midterm election. The Senate race has a third candidate, and if no one gets 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff, so it's possible U.S. Senate control may not be known until well after election day. On Capitol Hill, Mitchell Miller, WTO news. Meantime, the deadline to register to vote in Virginia is today in Virginia all 11 congressional seats are on the ballot. There are a number of local races too. The deadline to register to vote in Maryland and D.C. is tomorrow. "26, where electrical contractors come to grow. Good morning and Bruce Allen. And I'm Joan Jones, Andrew Osborne says our producer and our top story this morning, the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv has been hit by Iranian made kamikaze drones once again. The mayor says the early morning explosion sparked a fire in a non residential building and damaged several apartment blocks. Joining us live this morning for more WTO national security correspondent JJ green. JJ, good morning to you. What else do you know about today's attacks? Well, this has been Joan another nerve wracking night and morning for folks in central key several sources that I've been talking to since early this morning have told me that there was a place in central cave where several of these drones actually managed to hit their targets and there's fires. There's this destruction in the street and I'm told that there is something on the order of about 20 to 25 drones fired, but most of them were shot down. 5, however, did meet their targets. There have been some casualties we're not sure exactly about the number. They seem to be low, but still one is too many. And this is something again that folks in Kyiv and all across Ukraine are bracing for as this war continues to press on. Now there's still fighting in other regions of Ukraine too. What's the latest there? There's some very heavy fighting Bruce in Donbass and president volodymyr zelensky said on Sunday Ukraine's military forces are on the offensive around bakhmut. And this is a town that's a key target for Russia's forces. They're seeking to make hopefully to try to cement some of those territorial gains in that area in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. That make up the Donbass, but they've had to retreat because of this impressive offensive that Ukraine is mounted. So heavy fighting is going on there, not a whole lot is going on other regions, other parts of the country, except in central central central key right now. All right, JJ, appreciate you. Thank you.
