"Stephen run through the features and columns and tech folks. That we've we've gotten the i suppose so. One of the pieces in the supplement is a column from lean lewis. Who is the chair of the british motorsports martius club me. She's talked about how motioning has been affected by the pandemic. the different changes have been brought in some of the positives and negatives that associated with that and we also get under the skin of a pickup truck competition truck to look at the technical details of what that involves and steph new. Spoke to donny wins. Then the who is very successful case racer about his career haven't edgy say catering. This is best known for but i was very surprised to find out just all the different types of caused the race. You know he's only twenty eight minute and he seems to have been around for a long time in the national news poll and had a real bouts a when he started because the of sixteen he was in the tv. European challenge and eight debut in. And i think is anyone knows. The tv is not To stall in one of these debut in two thousand nine at coldwell poc. And since then he's he's he's going from strength to strength and mainly case room so he won't be full twenty tightly. Twenty seventeen in twenty eighty and. He's taken a bit of a box set from race now when he's actually running these team as well in in cates rooms but surprisingly out success without as well joan bones taken back to back titles with dot car them just from speaking. So you know. I think if anybody's ever watched a case from race in a more often than not the absolutely fantastic to wash because usually there's about ten to fifteen cars in the league battle slipstream thrillers Moving through the then. Have you ever have you ever driven a lot phonebook. Quite handful is all especially in rice's yeah did did around the three hundred c polite championship which i think it was the forerunner to the four twenty category. You mentioned this would have been around twenty fifteen time. I think we supported brace. Gt on the the suicide grand prix circuit so yeah i go to sleep streaming through on one of the greatest race to race on in the world. It almost a bit slow. On the second light silverstone but fantastic i live streaming and i had some great races. I'm involved in in the league battle as well. You say usually encompassing. Sometimes ten to fifteen cars sometimes could teach gets criticized for that united solar bit artificially in the sense that is kind of relevant until you get down to the last lap often. Ideally subscribe to that. I think that the slipstreaming element is just another part of it. You have to manage and there's a lot of tactics involved in positioning your car and try not to be in certain positions on certain lap sat in corners to get hit. So i like the fact that you know. The the air dynamics. Lack of efficiency keeps the keeps the racing really close. it's exciting. I never really have a boring lap indicator race. Very rarely site law firm was done in rice. If you're in the lead bottle and he was in. I imagine He wasn't too far away. I don't think he was in the category that time. I think you think he came in a couple years later. I remember from my days on the national desk. His name from the from the tv are categories of is not the not not the same as the tuscan challenge from the the heyday of the nineties. But i guess is the successor to that but no he wasn't. He wasn't engaged. At that point i remembered. I pretty pretty sure he came around as later. He's done so much to be fire. Mainly these occasional Gt cope at the civic cope while a more recently. He did the `losely trophy last year. He did a couple of rounds. Unsurprisingly was on the pace won a few races. I think he's intention is to you know to be out this year. Full time you know competing in the looking looking at this year Of bit later than planned but we finally had some national rice beans which is great a not only as well grits that. They absolutely fantastic. I mean i think we all you know everybody nash. Most both fades to the you know what the state of national knows what was going to be once. It resumed cova whether people were going to be coming out taking pine rice's but You know the positive seems to be that they. I you know people want to get out. They've saved the money over the last twelve by not being able to go abroad on holidays all that kind of thing being goods good statements over the first couple of weeks of the being race meetings. There's been some tremendous grades and includes some cash from seven fifty most club which had grigson of over forty cars an even the masters historic race meeting at donnington. A couple of weeks ago club that traditionally attracts a lot of drivers over from europe to its races. Still had some fantastic entries there as well the gentleman. Gt drivers race that had over forty cars and just last weekend in part because sports club again had some massive grades from really really encouraging to see that the the strong amount of interest that there was over the course of last year has continued into. This year there's organizers reporting huge amount of pent up demand interesting just in the space of a few days after the classic sports car club opened entries for donnington park meeting. she's a the end of may so over two months away at the time and they opened them..

"Hover. Thank you hover for sponsoring this episode of rockets hand relay. FM Yeah Baby Hey any final final thoughts about that all Amazon I know I I think I just I just WANNA say. I think it's really interesting that they are are moving this to like be a once a year product debut. That's fine that they promote on Amazon. I think it's a smart move from them. everything here makes a lot of sense. I mean I'm excited to see it. Come out. Even though I will never ha- yeah the only thing I would kind of attitude because we didn't talk about the products that we don't need to but I did think it was really really interesting that they integrated Eero integrated ring not the ring but but ring the doorbell into this presentation and I think that actually shows I would argue argue. They've done a better job with their acquisitions and integrating them into the same story then Google did with say nest and with you know drop cam and those things have now I think are finally entered the Google home banner but lived in various places and it's kind of been a messy see explanation of how they all work together whereas this is very clear you no you have your your Internet Mesh system that can also be an Alexa receiver. You have your doorbell things and you have your smart speakers and now these you know smarter Jason. It's an accessory whether it's a ringer your buds or a smart oven which th-that Sylla's weird to me but in that one is weird y'all. Do you think that they regretted. Did it being called ring when they made the ring. Do you think they regretted that. The doorbell was ring and not Amazon Bell or Alexa Bell when they made the Amazon loop and had to call it loop instead rang I th I think they were like damn. Why did we spend a billion dollar. Chester waves it was sitting in his tall tall office. Looking at a picture of a ring in tears were streaming down his face and then he crumpled the paper up and threw it across the room the little information that I got on background I like that moving okay cool so venture beat a cool story on Oculus today which is that facebook has announced that hand and finger recognition will be coming to oculus quest not hardware update but in a software update next year they say venture beat reports is that it will launch as an experimental feature and as an Sdk for developers in early twenty twenty which as you note is not that far away the big story here for me is not just that that would be super cool if it had Holland's ask a gesture commands but also how are the it's a software update is not additional. There's no additional hardware required what they're saying. Is that your oculus quest which we do love but which obviously has less sir processing capabilities than the oculus rift would be able to see your hands an act based on what they're doing. That's really interesting. It's it makes me think that the sensor technologies and the stuff must be so good that they can just that they're like okay the cameras in this this are good enough and we can pick up the pen points while enough that are models work with this which is really stunning at this point yeah which is great. I mean speaking of good enough that also also introduced the the Oculus or announced oculus link so that you can connect your quest to your PC to play rift game so basically your quest becomes comes a rift with that to me really really opens up a ton of possibilities for. I think you know people buber kind of confused of what to get like. This makes you this kind of makes the value prop. I think for a lot of people who may have been worried. I'm one of the people amongst them who've been kind of worried about like if I and get one of these things which one do I want and I don't want to get this quest which has these great things and can be done without being attached stuff but I also want to take advantage of these broader libraries that are never we're. GonNa come to it. Gives you the best of both I'd love to hear. Both of your thoughts since you both are are messing with the are more than me I mean. VR Works Hinton. VR Is Quirky when you have dedicated hardware for it hand tracking is Quirky when on your four oculus sensors hooked up the good work aboard absolutely is but it's not foolproof so if you're talking about adding adding this after the fact with just like like positional tracking from cameras to tell Christina I have seen so many tech demos. Mo's from cameras that like swear up and down they're going to Komo cap without a complicated studio. They're just gonNA track these little they're gonNA attract your body movements and you can tie it to Joan. bone based joint system for animation and it never works well. It never works well if they can make this work cool especially at the price point. I just think you should really check your expectation. I was going to say that brings up a really good point do you. I think that I mean I think this is an expectation. Check thing I would wonder and I don't WanNA speak for everyone but I would. I would think that if you are who owns an oculus quest in you're getting this feature. Your expectation is not going to be the same as someone who gets a magic leap or someone who may be. has these separate things. It's almost like you're getting this bonus feature. It works. Maybe insert scenarios better than others. It may be too big movements but it's not going to be able to pick up microscopic or really kinda minute and really specialized sized gestures and movements but it can do some things and that's cool but yeah I mean I think said an expectation that things asked absolutely right I think and that's it's probably how how facebook should be position yet. Whether they positioned that way or not is unclear but certainly listeners should be aware that if you get one of these things you shouldn't expected acted. It's going to be anything great for all the reasons mentioned but I do think that it's cool. They feel like they can make it kind of a an ad on you know yeah. I mean I think it speaks well in for me. It speaks better of whatever the next edition of quest will be rather than Ryan. What's happening with this one because 'cause I do love the quest as everyone knows. I've spoken very highly of it. I was just playing around with it last weekend because my brother was in town and I was like I know what I'm gonNA I do. I'm going to show that kid the oculus quest because he's ever done vr before and finally I can just bring this thing home from work and do it in my living room and then he he can experience these games and because he is six foot six and has limbs the size of long long vines he did punch punch my ceiling and almost broke some of my furniture punch to my wall and I feel so sorry tristen I hurt you you but he also had a great time. He said wow a lot so that means the world's main so where was I going with this. The oculus quest is is absolutely fantastic but I still at the end of the day and were excited for the next edition of this that will have even more graphical fidelity because because as we know as you pointed out they're bringing out the Oculus link now because there are some games that you still need to be tethered to play a for me. The OCULUS link doesn't doesn't change anything because I do not have a high end gaming. PC or a PC that can play these games. I never will so. I think that this is cool. Certainly a great solution for people who just want a few less cords to deal with a man who have those games who already invested in that and are like man. I could be a little old less tethered down Gosh. Why did I invest in this rift great great opportunity so I'm excited about what they're doing. but like you set my expectations are tempered yeah yeah. I mean I I also WanNa say in Mike Experience with Oculus. They're quote unquote. Experimental features end up being pretty okay. Well Baked I. I've liked their third sensor behind you. that worked pretty much perfectly right out of the box so yeah yeah check your expectations. Don't expect this to be good as good as standardized hardware. you know the jumping around when it misses tracking tracking very disorienting but you know that's a risky run when you're using cheaper hardware so there it is what what do we think of facebook correct and they're like giving walks like like social space like they're creating. VR Socialists they're gonNA shut down the spaces and the other VR roles they've had and they're kind of creating creating this. It really does seem like minecraft roadblocks kind of immersive. VR World's what we think about. I think it's interesting I think a lot of people tried to operate in the space second. Life is probably the most successful but playstation home crashed and burned. It seems like every other iteration facebook has tried to bring out of this has not yeah super well right like like facebook spaces and the oculus rooms are both getting shut down for a the reason I am not many people use them but yeah but at the same time it's like I can think of no time in history where I'd like a break from reality. Dan You know I I've never personally gotten into one of these virtual. VR Worlds for a while. I feel feel like I just turned eighty years old just because choose to spend my time but I am always very interested in the stories that come out of them and we got some fascinating leading stories from my God. What was the one that turned out to be very interesting cultures but then also a lot of racism came out out of it. I mean other one with the Uganda knuckles meme that that happened there just all kinds of interesting culture stews that happened in these worlds so I I am interested to see both how facebook will handle this new this new version Asian of that and also to see like what stuff human beings get to in there all right folks. It's time for dessert which is Christina. Can you tell us about Class Action Park. I sure can't I'm super excited to tell you about this juice. I was never so let me take you back guest to where I I learned about this theme parks so there was a water park in New Jersey in the eighties and the nineties and it was called Action Action Park now now not none of the three of us grew up in the tristate area so I absolutely simone is never heard of this unless she heard about like the viral stuff bree. I don't know if you've ever heard of this past summer. How I was nervous legend who get I'd never heard of it until I saw this documentary. In two thousand thirteen eighteen about this waterpark and Action Park was in New Jersey and it basically was like a water music whatever that was run by insane some people so they would have the most ridiculous water slides and rides other stuff and they would look ridiculous and they would look like you're gonNA kill yourself and some people did actually die over the terrible which is terrible. People also had concussions and had you know like would scraped up and teeth would come out like really bad odd things happen but also the people who went there if you survived even if you've got a little bit banged up came out of it with like this was the most bananas crazy insane thing it ever existed. We can't believe this was a thing but this was real and it was it was kind of a get bree said she thought it was a an urban legend. It was not it was a real theme park mark where a Waterpark and in twenty thirteen my friend forges helped do a documentary. Nashville at the time actually think was involved with producing it and in a number of our staffers at the time even appeared in in the short and there were like a two part short they kind of went through the history of this this waterpark that most of us had never heard of and that went viral and because of that that story a Johnny Knoxville been made a movie that came out last year called action point and now south along with them he has a CO director Chris Charles Scott's they have are bringing a feature length documentary culinary about Action Park..

"To the cafe just to kind of keep business going there. And we've seen not just Joan bone JV. I'll the local chef. And just generally all the people donating helping. So there is some kind of positive story, and what is a really difficult and dunk time. There's more we want to get to you. But we should look at the political path forward. Mystic warrior tweets. Is there any reason while yesterday's Senate Senate couldn't have happened on December twenty third? Why was there no effort in December when the GOP control the congress? Katie what do we see is the next step in all this? Is there any are there any benchmarks we should be looking for next week? And he signs of the democrat house. Democrats are already looking at another proposal that would include a so called smart wall. Which means you know, they would offer we'll give you some money, but it won't be a physical barrier. We're going to have drones and technology. They're trying to find some way to reach, you know, to make something palatable enough that the president may, you know, agree to and this long enough to keep talking. So there is another effort on behalf of the Democrats to say, let's try to open the government. Let's find ways. As to fund border security, but like let's do this while the government's running one other effect of the shutdown had to do with the state of the union address speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi has twice rescinded President Trump's invitation to address the nation before joint session of congress. She cited security concerns for delaying the state of the union until the shutdown ends and this caused the president to do something. He does not usually do he relented he agreed to wait until the government is reopened before giving the state of the union address. Now, Kimberly, we should bear in mind. The constitution requires the president to report from time to time on the state of the union. It does not require him to do it in a live address before congress. I think it was just like a written book report all the way up through Woodrow Wilson, basically. So there's not a constitutional issue here. But there's clearly a political issue and I would fail to see. How Nancy Pelosi doesn't take a little bit of satisfaction out of this. Yeah..
