"joab" Discussed on Pray the Word with David Platt

"19 verse 13. Be strong and let us use our strength for our people, and for the cities of our God. And May the lord do what seems good to him. There's so much to learn in this little verse, specifically about how to pray, motives and are praying. So in this passage in first chronicles 19, joab is working hard to arrange the armies for war, and he's doing so wisely, but he's also doing so knowing that everything is ultimately in God's hands. And he's encouraging the people to be strong, but listen to the purpose for being strong be strong and let us use our strength for our people, and for the cities of our God, oftentimes we ask for strength really just focused on ourselves. We feel weak and we need strength simply for us and yes, there's a sense in which it's good to go before God our father to ask for strength simply for our own good, but what I love about first chronicles chapter 19 verse 13 is the exhortation to be strong here is attached to using that strength for the sake of others. God help me to be strong so that I can be a blessing to others so that I could be an encouragement to others. So I can use the strength you provide for others good and ultimately for your glory trusting that you will do ultimately what seems good to you. So let's pray accordingly. First chronicles 1913, what a good exhortation to us to pray for strength, not just for our own sake. But for the sake of others, God we confess today, our weakness before you. John 15 5 is in so many ways the foundation for our praying apart from you, we can do nothing. We are power, less hope, less, without you, apart from you, we need your strength, and we know that we can do Philip's four 13 all things through Christ who strengthens us as we rely on your strength in us. You will give us we know everything we need. To do all that you call us to do. And so God we pray today as weak people for your strength in every way we need it. I imagine there's a lot of people praying this right now who feel really weak and who are struggling in different ways and need your strength, got even for those who are not feeling weak you remind us of our weakness that we might look to you for our strength and that as you provide it as you give us strength as you give us courage as you give us wisdom as you give us everything we need that you would use all these things. Namely, the strength you provide for the good of others. God make us strong so that we can serve others well. Make a strong replay so that we can be a blessing to others. Make us strong so that we can be a reflection of your love and your provision and others lives. Make a strong for the sake of our families. Make us strong for the sake of our friends and neighbors and coworkers make a strong for the sake of our churches, make our churches strong, we pray for the sake of people around us who need the gospel, make our churches strong, we pray for the sake of the nations, even as we pray today for the cheaper people of India. This people group that is both seek and Hindu and Muslim in a very unusual way, but none of them out of hundreds of thousands of them know the good news of your love in Jesus. God we pray that you would make your church strong. Our lives and family strong, so that we might go to the nations in need of the gospel God help us to be strong today for the good of others and ultimately for the glory of your name trusting that you the wise sovereign all powerful lord will do what seems good to you. We trust in you, oh God. Oh God, we pray all these things in Jesus name according to first chronicles 19 verse 13. Amen..

"I can't do this. i can't do this. I can't battle that. Make this pal. Yes you can the same serial do. That's right thoroughly. We'll take care. And i'll even aware shirley lives. But if she gets to the mall spinner hollers better holler loud in. This is what i love about this story. We are supposed to be that. This is the reason this is in there right. I mean this story had no other significance than he could go in and say you know joab goes in and talks to this woman. She throws us heads over the why. It's all good but the fact of the matter is one woman goes to the wall and save the city and in stops a rebellion against david. And you know just in talking with you about this story right here and right now it already has me rethinking something that i said in the beginning about where were the men you know. They were probably busy and they're trying to figure out where he is. Yes what are we gonna do. I threw that out there. I kind of was saying Woman's gonna have to handle has where the but yeah she was was yes she could see that there was something she can do and it needed to be done and it just happened to take care of this office thing. I'll take care of this. Yes i have always been one of those that and if your listeners. You haven't figured that out by. I'll handle it. Confrontation is not an issue for me if it's done correctly. And if it's done wisely and loving him lovingly. And i can't say that i've always handled it that way. Well i know. I haven't in. Don't send me emails to those. I haven't handled it well. However you know there are times that we have to confront things whether it's evil whether it's disobedience whether it's A wolf any sand in your life has to be confronted has be confronted. And i'm okay. I'm okay handle it. Because i know who has got my back and it's nothing personal because i know you would always have my back. I'm it right okay. We've got that on tape now. Yes but the but the the fact of the matter is not as your back. You go to the story of jesus in the garden and you go. That you know here are his. You know his his three fifa lls pools and they can't stay. They cannot stay awake. You know he's like. Can you.

"Able to step out and aso's questions were because you you have faith in you realize that you're prepared it exactly just a matter of doing it. Here's here's what here's my takeaway. I don't know what your takeaway is the takeaway is we. We have the ability to be a little bit crazy for the lord. There was a book that used to come out Called jesus freaks dc talks wrote it. I think there were actually to love that book. Want head my voice. Read that book you look at some of these things and you go. Oh my goodness that was crazy. Why would you even do that. You could have lost your life the same way with her. She could have lost her life but it was important for her to make peace for her town for her city. She could've lost her life anyway. Had she stayed in the city done. Nothing wants all those men kamien to. Y'all yes so we've got. We have to remember that. Sometimes we had we have to take it to the wall. So i mean we. We have to take it to the wall. We have to fight those fights. We had to and i'm not talking about fighting those fights. Joe have wasn't intimated the city at that point he was. he was an enemy rod. I mean because joab would have destroyed everyone anyone until he found who is looking for and so we had to take it to the wall because sadness trying to destroy your town. He's trying to destroy your city. He's trying to destroy your chart. He's trying to destroy and so there are going to be. Sometimes we're gonna have to get a little crazy. Somebody has to stand far. He has to stay on somebody and sometimes because we're women we feel like it's not our job or will be reprimanded if we do it because why he thinks it's not our job brought but we all it is all our. It's everyone's wrong..

"She i know. I keep going back trying to find something in there. That would say that she did. But this i already do. Then the woman went to all the people with her wise boss and they cut off the head of your head and then threw it to joab so he sounded the trumpet and the men dispersed from the city each returning to his home and joab went back to the king in jerusalem with single handily. Single head single handedly. She stops this battle permits. She saves her city. I mean we talk about esther. We talked about. She saves the city because she was brave enough to step out in. "Got all this going on and then joab he's david's nephew. He's as commander in chief. He's a scoundrel is killed his son. He's killed his son and he's kind of been relieved of his commander ship. Oh yes i'm forgetting yes. He was relieved a bat. David puts What's his name in his off. I must say yes. He was a mazda in his place which was joab cousin who also kills and he kills him but that's a story right before the woman. Thanks so they're actually so they're joab amaafuza is after sheba. Us but you know. He's not pursue any but he's not aggressive. The king says you bahir in three days in any doesn't show up you don't know how long and then he finally meets up with joe ed down the trail somewhere you know. We don't know how many days it's being enjoy of his like you can drop us. Pulled another one out on the other side cow greeting him higra and because of yeah and he killed him and leaves his guts out there and he goes on. And you know it's it's kind of interesting. Because i think what what posit even in the story but it's kind of amazing to it's kind of an inside of who joab was. Because he kills him he leaves his guts out on the ground and one of his officers has to go win in taking off the row corrode road. Because you're stopping in yet. What do we call that today. They're talking or what do you call that. What is that for him. Brian not work. But that's what they were doing. An enduring Hey you know who are you gonna follow now. I'm also said. Are you going to me. And david. And i notice in the ba- like it's joab david like he. He says that to me. Says i'm in verse. Eleven of chapter twenty one of his men stood beside a moss and said whoever favors joab and whoever is for david let him follow like the king. David is not even put in first place. Joab his officers like okay. Why are you gonna follow him. And the king. It should have been. Are you going to follow the king because now joab is obviously in charge because he killed someone rot. I would think of it. Do you think the soldiers were aware of all that had happened. I mean they head to now. He was relieved of command in masa was in charge and now that he's done. You know okay so anything. If if i'm going if i'm walking down the road in our see moss's guts all over the place. I'm going to be like to iraq. Everybody looked to your right. Got new we're gonna command or let's hear your you know and then by the time the however many there are they get to the inner like. Hey wasn't there no. We saw him. Did you see the blood. Did you see blood draw. I saw the. I'm watch idea could drag that body. There's gonna be blood still absolutely so so it's all there so so we get to this and this one i told you this is one of my favorite stories because i love this woman and i remember teaching this story and i get to this part in. It's like these are not the stories. We talk about in sunday school. No they're not this story. Yes because obviously remembered hearing that couldn't remain out about it so ends we're going to start in verse. Fourteen of chapter twenty is this sheba. Pass through all of israel to abel beth maka in through the entire region of the I'm gonna say barret barrett betts who gathered together and followed him. All the troops with joab came besieged..

"To a city of refuge so abishai rounds up his brother so abishai rounds up his brother joab and all his special forces unit and leave jerusalem to find execute sheba and team have been added to low too much too much too loud. Let's cut to a day and a half ago and a massive is marching in front of all the men from judah and is on his way back to jerusalem to report back to david as they were marching a massive cease. His brother joab or his cousin. Joab i think yes. I think it's cousin so massey's his cousin joab just up ahead on the path but what a massive didn't see is that joy had pulled out a dagger and was hiding it from a massive once. Jaw was close enough. He was like is what's up. Get over here and give your cousin a big hug you throughout the story of a second book of samuel whenever you see joab you should run right. Job seems to be connected. A lot with you know agreed. The last person. Like a like yeah. He's the acid agreed. Who's the kiss of death. Yeah yeah yeah so justices. Massa raises his arms up to joab joel grabs him by the beard and stabs him under the fifth rib and for some reason amasses entire intestinal organs build out onto the ground and he felt fell down instantly right. Yeah so then joab special forces guys step forward our military and is all a so. That's what's up if you're pro. David then followed joab now so once they started to march one of the special forces guys notices how slow everyone is marching so they look back and can see that..

"Rain and shit is popping off big time need was a huge mess of a fight and over. Twenty thousand men died there that day. My bad. that's okay. That's that's like war sound Okay so the forest was such a rough place to fight that more. Soldiers died from the battlefield than the battle itself. Oh yeah because it's hard to fight tripping over like you know routes you know smashing their heads on rocks and that kinda shit. Yeah yeah so holes mall all mall holes like the rural juror. A mole hole so we cut to aslam who is alone and riding a donkey away from the battle as he's riding away. His hair gets caught in a tree branch. Oh see so. The brands kind of pulls him off his donkey. Yeah and it's now holding him up off the ground as his donkey rides away. As absalon is struggling with struggling with his hair cut in the branches. He sees one of jobs men watching him. Oh yeah cut to joab yelling at his soldier. Are you fucking kidding me right now. Utah absalon dangling from a tree and you didn't kill him on the spot. I guess you don't want ten. Shekels or this fancy. Were your belt buckle. Oh well i guess. They gave out prizes sometimes. Achievement unlocked or their time. So factor feis their life right so the soldier claps back with a scarf. And his all you want me to kill the son of the king for ten shekels to be honest bro. I wouldn't do it for a thousand. We all heard david before leaving to. So yeah right right. Joe was not impressed and started to get angry and was all like god. Damn it gimme. Those bears joab grabs three spears and walks over to the tree were absalom is hanging from and he walked over there with ten of his armor bearers once he got there. He plunged all three spears into his heart and then his armor bearers down and they just attacked him to make sure he was dead. But he's okay. Yeah yes so. it's kinda cold. He's going to be crying forever. So suggest then. Joab grabs trumpet and use it to signal. Everyone that absalon absalon is finally dead. This caused all the fighting to stop and all the remaining troops went back to their homes to israel. Absalon manage to put up a monument before dying of himself. And it's still stands there to this day. Yeah yeah like this day before. Yeah yeah there's a monument in jerusalem the tomb of absalom. Yeah i'll talk about a little later. Okay so now. I is was eager to tell david. The news about winning the balance absalom joab was like. Yeah you don't want to give this kind of news to the king especially king david you can give him the news about something else some other time. He just needs some time. So joab then sees a cushy man and orders him to run and tell the king the news the cushy man bows and takes off running as fast as you can. as asked him is is watching. The cushioned man ran away. He starts getting impatient all like come on man just let me run behind him. Then so joy was puzzled and was all like. Why do you want to tell this the david so badly for you you're gonna get a prize or something I is gets a little shine..

"Defense pay attention all five players. If there's only one player you gotta worry about which is Caleb Kern, who's got 14 points at the half. I mean, you focus your defensive efforts on him. You're gonna have make you're gonna force part Christian to find someone else to score and they've got a couple of young men they've scored, but Both teams are a little obviously Ali. We're talking about two teams that have a combined one win. So far. I mean, let's be honest about what we're seeing here tonight to in experience teams, but so far climax, Fischer looks a little more organized little bit better on the offensive in this second half were kind of down towards one end here, James. We'll get a better up close view of climax Fisher here in the second half. But Are Christians gonna need to get their offense Get it running. Get everybody running their sets. They need better, much better movement from their players better off ball movement when they're on the offensive end, so some minor adjustments. I think that they can make and I think obviously it's it's a one point game. This game could go Either way. It's been It's been unique in a sense, but it's exciting. Nonetheless. It's a close ball ball game between two competitive teams, and that's one thing that I'm really looking forward to. I think part Christian, the second half gonna look and I think the coaching staff is gonna make an adjustment and where they're going to say. Not necessarily. We have to do this every possession down where you're looking. And Max Al back to had 18 points last time last game on on Friday against Monroe Muoi bit and then you also Alex Drum. There's both their two big men. Quote unquote. You're looking in class a basketball or 6 Ft. 26 ft two guy. When you get in class eight. That's kind of what some of the bigger guys look like. In Minnesota. You know, you explain what some smaller schools but they had 18 points in 12 point, respectively. And against my moment Waban the Thunderbirds last Friday evening, and when Roman Joab and they play a lot of full court press, they got a couple of bigger kids. They're a little bit more aggressive on the offensive end as well. And they were able to, you know muscle in 30 Point trade there, and most of it was down low in the paint for those two young men. So if you're just looking for the second half, try and fight it down low and inside there. I mean, you're looking him climax, Fisher. I mean, you probably only got two, maybe three kids in this rock, so they're gonna be over actually 6 ft 44 climate exhibition that are actually playing in the games. You're looking at that. Understand? Okay, We got similar size to them. Let's try and take advantage. You know, let's get a couple kids in foul trouble. You're looking and what was it climax. Fisher. I believe only committed three follows in the first half, and nobody has more than one foul. So nobody's in foul trouble. And part of it has to do with the fact that part Christian isn't being physical, and I think of they adjust to that a little bit more the second half that that's going to be their chance to get back. Not only take the lead, but also try and pull out this evening. Yeah, I mean, you've got the habits brothers. We got a senior.

"Have to know that. And he tries to talk to Joab the Hitman. Joab was unwilling to come. Affluent sent for Joab. To have. To the king, but he would not come to him and when he sent again the second time he would not. So he's sent again a second time, but he's still wouldn't. Now This was into what I call not that peaceful protest. BECAUSE LISTEN TO THAT S. Therefore, he said servants, jobs fields near mind. Burnley there go and set it on fire Oh sound good in verse thirty. And at home service appealed on fire. Then Aslam said that his servants see. JOAB has field right next to mine and he has barley there. Go, what's that fire to it? So Absalom's service set the field on fire. So there we have. We have missed for the Bible talks about. You. Want attention because you're not satisfied as violence being used setting a fire destroying this mansfield as crop. So not only is the commander apparently, he also has to rely on. Harvesting crops. Through his position. It goes on. Now here's the thing. Violence gets the response. This is why we have. These protests that breakdown in into. Vandalizing Theft and burning throwing bricks through windows. Violence gets response. This is plane as simple. If this is why in our modern world, we have these protests breakdown violence. cars and buildings vandalized bricks thrown through windows. Things are stolen. Things are looted people get hurt. Because it gets a response, it gets reaction. Now. Is the right thing to do well. It's effective because in verse thirty one. Then Joab. Came to Absalom's house and demanded. Why did your service set my field on fire? And came to ask for Monday his house and said unto him for have my servants set my field on five, which would stop right there. Violence. You get the attention. They gotTA response. Joab another political person assist. Why did you do this? Okay. WHY DO PEOPLE PROTEST TODAY Let me play this using protests situation. Today we're not happy because there's there's good valid reasons. Not Going to say there's not. We're going to. Break Windows and vandalized. Burned down things. Okay okay. The press sees this your neighborhood sees this year government officials see this. And they say. Or maybe they're not saying choir you doing this maybe that's what the problem is. Maybe no one's asking the right question why are you doing this I'm asking right now why are you doing this? What the response is, WE'RE GONNA burn down more stuff more bookstore windows and keep analyzing do. You have your stage, you front and center across the world because the media has cameras on you. This is your time to say. Why are you doing this? There's in this case, there is a message shared and violence ends. Now there's also demands for an acceptable justice. So let's get re what this is about. In verse. Thirty two. And absolute answer joab behold I send under these things come hither that I mentioned to the king to say where for him I come from Gesher. In had been good for me to have been there still now therefore, let me see can space and if there be any iniquity enemy, let him kill me. Absalom explained Joab. I sent for you and said, come here want to this thing to the king. Why have I come back from gesture I would've been better if I was still there. So now let me see the king. I'm guilty. Let him kill me Now let me stop right there. Can you imagine today's? Protesters who certainly have the voice of the right hand man to top dog of the country and he's and they say we were better off. Before. Well what is The issue. that. The black lives matter people had before. People talked about slavery was a long time ago. Pression Liam. Maybe I'll are. They're saying you know we'd be better off you know living the dregs of society rarer a half-hearted resolution. I king. But I'm just saying it was media today you have the ear of the world. Say What you want reconciliation. Do you want put some proposals on the table and are you willing to say let the king judge me and I will even accept death if that's what? The king was I. Bet you. They won't do that. But absolutely so. Brave enough to say that. So Joan came to the Canes Odeon. And when he had called Absalom. He came to the king. About himself on his face to the ground. Before the king and the king. Kissed. Absolute. Goes on. The king hairs this dissatisfied voice in Verse Thirty Three Joe. Meant to the king and told him. So David summoned absalon. No. Let me pause here was this happened is honor is shown on both sides airplane. Airplanes anyway macropoulos. A there's honor. There's TAC there's ambassadorship. "North, and we're joined by our guy Looper. Gandal Aeri is from props Joab, one of the co founders of Chicago guy, and he joins us each and every Friday. And man, We've spent a lot of time loop talking about golf, and how is great action and especially a prop swap. It played out exactly like one lucky golf fan and gambler. Would have hoped last weekend on your site selling adjusted Thomas ticket, right? Yeah. Good comments was 10 to 1 to start the work day, but he bought a ticket in about $100 Take and I'm props up at 10 to 1 odds. On Thursday. 100 bucks collects 1100 Andi, Of course, he was going at the whole weekend. Fast forward to Sunday. His current odds were now minus 2000 was Justin Thomas when he had a three stroke lead with free to go. On that guy paid $100 for that Take it listed at $4000. That was a nuance of minus 1000. Someone was going to pay 1000 bucks. They're going to take a HAZ 1100 on someone got it on the 17th hole. Someone bought it, Andi course. Hey, bogey. And they go into the playoffs hit that unbelievable putt on the first play awful, but then more cholera win on the second hole. So just just an incredible, incredible swing. And you know, the moral of the story is just wants to buy a ticket on props up posted at really high minus money, and he has someone bite. Like you never know If someone out there wanting to make a gamble and especially with golf was just such a volatile sport. He swings can happen and you know a matter of seven minutes ago from minus 2000 to a loser. On in a span of 20 minutes of golf, So it was great the buyer so God still beat the market. You know the buyer paid minus 1000 when the market was minus 2000 on then, of course, the seller got the lock in You know, $1000 of profit, and Justin Thomas didn't sleep for three days and the hard work you're looking for change awe, because more cow if you didn't see it, folks, one of the great comebacks if it isn't if it's a major, I mean the last three homes, plus the overtime, but the one where you get the 24 foot three after You know Thomas hit the 48 was just sensational. What did people do with more hours ticket on Saturday are after Saturday. Yeah. We sold a ton of mortality tickets that we probably sold Maybe a dozen more college tickets all weekend. Um, think the longest odds that someone picked up was probably 20 to 1. Think someone grabbed him at 20 to 1 potentially on Friday. Um, yeah. I mean, the kids. You know what 23 years old and no one thought that he would do anything at this stage in his career, and I mean, he's just coming out Guns, boys. Luke last last time we talked. Certainly I was off last week. So ah, going back even to the Friday before that we still I don't believe that the time had definitive knowledge of which cities the NHL was gonna pick for these hub city's nowthe way The MBA is doing it. They're down in Orlando. I mean, the really is going to be no home court. Now with the NHL cities. I'm wondering, even though there aren't gonna be fans, and we know that that sometimes could sway the way the game goes. But when you look at Toronto in the playoffs, and you look at Edmonton in the playoffs having to play in, but still in the play offs, like Is there any sort of home ice advantage that might exist for those teams and are those tickets? Being posted on the website right now for the Maple Leafs and the Oilers. Yeah, that's a good point. I mean, I think it's always nice to sleep at home. Um, you know, and just have your typical routine and their meals made. You don't have to be sleeping in the hotel pad. Even if you're a hockey player. Yeah, Like they wrote those guys. They might, but it's a different road this year. Sorry. Yeah, You're right. Yeah, but But, you know, to your point. There is no crowd, you know, So you know, perhaps advantage of being able to sleep in your own beds and perhaps this advantage of not having your crowd there the booster morale. Throughout the game. But, yeah, I mean, I hear you on the Oilers, you know, to counter that point. We can't keep the black arts detectives on the cells that were selling in Black arts ticket and 65 to 1 odds. Every hour. It's been incredible. They're just such a public team. Always sides. That's that's far and away our heart attack you take it is the Hawks at 65 Okay in no real change, Even with the Corey Crawford news this week, Luke I mean, it's the people. There's still that that popular that they don't know. They don't know. Right. That's the plan, So I think I think Kroll ply. Don't see Crawford sitting out. Ah, I here I got it. But the doesn't start for another 2.5 weeks ago, a couple exhibition games first. I think I thought, Hell, go vs Oilers, and we're getting close to the start of baseball Me by the next time we talk next Friday. There's going to be a couple of games in the books, and I would imagine that there's still some good MLB action if people get to prop swap dot com and start checking it, checking those futures tickets, right? Yep. Yeah continued to sell the popular teen spell the Astros and the Yankees of time, Um, an article talking about Reese Hoskins, the Phillies first baseman one and L. M v P. That's kind of an interesting one. Suddenly, in a truncated have some someone's going to have a killer 60 games, you know, take cold that award. A few dark horse tickets on NBC have been selling for sure. Nice. Alright, Luke. It's always a pleasure, buddy. Have a great weekend. We'll talk to next Friday. Okay, Kind of like everybody. There is Looper. Gandhi's at Looper Gandhi on Twitter, and he's one of the co founders of props. Well, can I just say that the conversation we had off the air was undertaken before? Yeah, it was. We were talking about basically. I brought up the Colin Montgomerie hasn't changed in 40 years. Yet all he's the same lumpy looking guy with the curly hair and the clothes that are baggy. Then he's always been entertaining is an analyst really is. Your thing Is Mike like he the senior tour. He didn't look great back then. But he called background because you're right. He hasn't changed at all. Info back down. He looked like he was 60. Now he's looking like he's not looks pretty gal in Montgomery. Fabulous. I love it. Probably the best golfer that never won the big one, right? Couldn't we say that? I mean, that was always there. I was always kind of a knock against them, and you're probably still say it to this day. But I'll always think Norman's the underachiever. I always believe no matter what he did with the British Open. I get it with a couple of major. I understand that room. But to me with his talent, and it was a mess. Yes, I mean, you know, I don't know we played. I used to play comfort. They had to change the courts because of the guy who ran the one hole. They had to put a treat on 18. Yeah. Yeah, Exact. That's absolutely right. I mean, Mike's right if people don't know if Kemper Lakes and one of the great courses that I got playing by myself once with the body, I mean, it's great. From what what Mike's talking about his on 18 16 17 and 18. Kemper is one brutal bru dog like left a cupper and exactly what it used to be no tree. What is normal to before? Pharmaceuticals, whom he starts hitting. He starts cutting so much of the lake. He was hit about 300 yards before anybody else. He starts cutting off. So much of the lake. They said. Well, this is ridiculous. You've heard a tiger proofing and in Norman prove it. They put they put like a big island in the filled the lake, and they put big trees on it. Reese up there, Everything's That's exactly right. That's how good Greg Norman was in today, he ruined it for everybody else. Salt because bad tempered Still.

How to Love Those Who Take Advantage of Us

"Do you keep loving and sharing and trying to be fair with people when people use that and basically? I see people you know the older I get. I think people are reading I do. That's what the argument was. Maybe we all three can come in some really behave in very inappropriate means angry destructive ways. I don't want to give this idea that we're looking at the world through rose colored glasses and distorting that that's not what the joy response is. The joint responses is biochemical for reflects happens on the body. When you don't allow that negative to affect you because you make a choice. This person cut me out and traffic. You can follow them for four miles chase them yell at them scream at them make vulgar gestures. Who you're hurting is you. That doesn't bother them. They do this all the time. They have other problems. I know what she's saying. What she's saying you give yourself to somebody that you share yourself. You have to be and then they take advantage of you because those people mistake your kindness for weakness and they think you're stupid but that's who you are when I give of myself when I give it to someone. I don't give expecting them to respond the way I want them to. That is not what life is about giving loving I speak of is extending yourself unconditionally. For the benefit of another human being who ever that human being is wherever however they wish to to use yourself doesn't matter what they do absolute. I'm giving because it makes me feel good to give well in addition to that delimit new. Stick something in here. There's an assumption that giving is always one on one in fact the giving needs to be to the entire outfit. We are always putting back in the pot. That's sometimes what is given to us goes back in the pot to someone who's not gonNA give directly back to us but there's a sense of contributing to the well being of the group appointed hasn't been brought up here too is when that happens. Sometimes if I may share this with you if you give into those people they're not you need to clean house. There are times in your life when the best things I've done is clean house and you eliminate the people in your life who are not moving in the same direction and are not feeding you what you need. I mean that's one of the greatest gifts hard enough to fix that up. I see a lot of people abort very quickly some people give up too soon. You WanNA clean house until it's really really. I mean but you clean clean after you realize that these people are bringing me down and I've done everything I can. I've given of myself but this person isn't going to help my life. You see what I'm saying. What I'm concerned about is a researcher. Purely though Oprah is that understand something I think. The three of us are trying to say by acting lovingly. This is not just some kind of romantic hogwash. And it's not just positive thinking and looking at communicating. Or I love you. You're my one and only deepest ocean. It's acts that show caring for the system as you said it's giving back to the system however what does that mean giving what. I do positively. It may not be aimed at that one man that day but it goes into the pot. We are all connected. We're all related. One person in this audience today is touched by this. That matters a great deal. It doesn't matter. One woman may give me a dirty look and then. I'm going to clean house. I'll never sit in front of you again. You understand the number one thing you can do for your own. Immune system is to do something altruistic to help you. Don't believe me after the Oprah show is over go out traffic fine traffic and wave people and give them a break. You'll feel really good now. If you're going to tell me didn't even thank me the fool. I'll cut out the next person. This isn't love purchase ensure bothering. Yeah sometimes I just think that should have been taken advantage of before. Bundy's hoping that sings through the person that maybe I did leave a good impression on and that may be somehow they'll think back to maybe it'll somehow change them because I mean sure things bring me down but I always find a way to pick myself backup. I'll stay the press for an hour but I'll do five hours worth of window shopping. Whatever and I'm perked up like when my parents to know the macronutrients eastward where my dad would give my mom fourteen bucks for two weeks recapping. She would laugh until tears. Roll Down Downer cheeks. How can you do grocery shopping fourteen with fourteen dollars but I think we all agree? What worries me most if we get the message and this one hour show somehow. Depression is bad. We're in trouble well. On top of that capacity all of us have for being jerks is very clear we tend to think that those people all have a capacity for jerks and I have to tolerate it. It's nice to know as you are also part of that jerk group at times it's right and that's okay the line between good and evil joab positive. Negative doesn't run between us and them. It runs right down the middle of all of us. Once you get that straight then you belong to the group rather than being an outsider doing but I also think it goes back to what Paul was saying earlier about choices I mean I know that I am not going to be love and all of the time but I've made the decision to at least seek that in my life and so that puts me at a better place than not even thinking about it I think I think we must really begin to take responsibility for allies. Really bottom line

"Is a common characteristic of apocryphal acting like you care, acting like you're interested acting like he had no interest. In this battle, he had interest in covering up his sin that demanded his death. David plan to cover his adultery by using your ri- to force him to go home have sex with his wife. And he would think it's his job. So in second Samuel eleven eight David said he arrived. Okay. Thanks for the reports. Great to have you home. Why don't you go down to your house? Now, wash your feet and go in that means go home. Take a bath clean up. And maybe we'll have you for dinner tonight. So you're right. I left the king, the bible says and the king Senate gift to his house. No doubt it was some wine or something like that, some food. And, but verse nine of second Samuel ebonite to the king surprise, your, I did not go home. He slept at the door of the kings house with the other troops. The guards and David got word of it. David was upset about it. So the next time David tries to pull a ploy. He gets you Ryan drunk in order to trick him into going home. But you're still slept when David servants, he wouldn't go home. Here's the frontal your Ryan had true integrity, and he would not relax while his battlefield buddies were still at war. He should have opened. David's is to his own failure to latest troops. It did not. And so David compounds as San one Sanpaolo, and on top of another San try to get him drunk. Try to make him go home. Try to trick him into going home doing everything he can try to act like everything. He's big buddy. And everything's all fine knowing that is impregnated this man's wife. And so how does he handle it? And number six second, Samuel eleven fourteen and it came to pass in the morning. That David wrote a letter to Joab and told you Araya here, take this letter delivered to JoAnne. In the letter where instructions for Joab to expose your riot to the hottest part of the battle and once in the hot battle pull the troops back and leave him up there alone. So he would be killed. This then may Joab an accessory to murder. So Joab had to make a decision either he would accept or reject the king's command. Joab sold out your IRA, one of his greatest warriors at the insistence of king David, how tragic the such a valiant soldier dad for David lust. Send number seven. David sacrificed other soldiers in order to kill you ride cover up his sin. Did you know that? No. He wasn't the only person killed here. The bible tells us and second San eleven twenty four as the report came back from the frontlines, the servants said during the battle, the Archer shot from off-the-wall upon your soldiers and some of them are dead. But also is your ri- the Hittite, that's what David wanted to your he'd care about the other men, they were killed. He wasn't thinking, right. He was a caring about their wives and their families and their children. He was only thinking about his own self as what send it gets you so self centered you just think about yourself. You don't think about anyone else David share pretense, and philosophical bull is seen here? Here's what David says. Once he gets this news at all. These soldiers are dead at even you ride the Hittite was killed. He said, well tell Joab not to worry about it. So that's the sort of ours one as well as another second Samuel eleven twenty five no big deal. Just a few soldiers died just to cover up. My San second Samuel eleven twenty six when that Sheba heard about it. She mourned for her husband. And after she was three morning. David sent for her brought her to his house, married her. And they had a son in verse twenty seven seconds. Samuel eleven. This thing. Did not please God it displeased him greatly. And you can count on it. When you displease God divine discipline is about to come knocking David's own self induced misery is evident from divine discipline. He has extremely excruciating pain in his life and listened to psalm thirty eight one through four oh Lord rebuke me, not in Iraq. Neither chasing me and the hot displeasure verse. Two for nine arrows, stick fasten me and the hand presses may greatly festering guilt became an emotional burden and left him. Severely depressed. And it reflected in his physical demeanor as well. They even failed to rebound is sin and was now compounding his discipline. This has been over a year since all this took place, and then he said, in psalm thirty eight three there's no soundness in my flesh because of your anger, and neither is there any risks in my. Bones because of my own sin for my iniquities have gone over my head like a heavy burden there, too. Heavy for me. Here's the principal, you need to remember, if you don't rebound, your sand, divine discipline, will either break, you or it'll take you David was on his way out under the Senate death. But he finally finally finally rebounded. When will you finally confess your San and get out underneath your own sentence of death because of year San and your life. And found thirty eight eighteen I will declare my iniquity and now will be an anguish over my sin singing, or San. San this took a year of God's heavy discipline. And the result of it is saying, in second time, you twelve Nathan said today, that the Lord put away your San and you won't die. However, because of what you've done you've given great occasion to the enemy of the Lord to blaspheme him, thus the child, who is going to be born to you. Shall surely die principle, while God forgives then he does not necessarily remove the consequences. So Galatian six seven says, don't be to see God is not mocked whatever man. So he's also going to reap not only did David face the loss of his Chow much more came in second Samuel twelve nine ten eleven even his own children turned against him. Many many, many years of discipline. There's a lot more to say and ran out of time. I hope this makes sense. Are you listening? Is it speaking to you, if so? Get with it change your ways. Now why you can't I pray you will until next week. It's req- saying, thank you for listening to the flat line..

"Split as the Lord there is a pattern of failure in second. Samuel chapter eleven it's a progressive pattern of sin and cover up. And that's what the criminal does anyone who gets into criminal arrogance always tries to cover it up. And they usually do it myself justification this, what does Vegas justifies why it's okay to steal from people eras justifies. Why? It's okay to be deceptive airing justifies why you don't have to admit your guilt, and there's a pattern of cover of even in David's life. It starts in second Samuel chapter eleven verse one and I'll read it to you. And it came to pass after the year was ended at the time when kings, go forth to battle. Did you hear that the time when kings go forth tobacco that David sent Joab David didn't go David Wilson that the battle, he sent Joab his servant with him and all of Israel, and they destroyed, they sent Joab and his servants within that's soldiers and all of Israel, and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besiege rabbi? But David Terry still at Jerusalem. Now, here's some principals to remember, this is the first sin in this pattern of cover up. David was out of the geographical will have gone by remaining behind for Zion and not going to battle with Joe app. He got out of the geographical will of God. Yes principle, too. You definitely can't stand by getting out of God's geographical will. And maybe you say you've never heard of that before. Well, there are three point three principal three. There are three categories of the will of God, I'll give it to you under ABC, number one, the directive will of God, that's point A. And that's that God won't you stay in fellowship. God wants you to grow in grace. The bible says studied to show themselves approved unto God workman that needed not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth. The bible says studied to show, the so approved undergone a workman at need, if not be ashamed. You hear that twice? Another verse grow integration, the knowledge of our Lord and savior. Jesus christ. It is God's directive will that you stay in fellowship with him by using problem solving device. Number one rebound and that you grow in the grace and knowledge via Lord and savior. Jesus christ. Now be the three categories of the Willard, God. A the directive will have gone be that permissive. Will of God, and that's you. When you get in Karnali that you when you commit sending your life and you fail the confess the sin God will allow you to get into Karnali, if you want to do, so you have free will you have a vote listen. You can choose to send no one manipulates, you know, one causes you forces you, anything, you commit you choose to San and number three or ABC the overruling well have gone, and this is a wonderful thing. This is where God Walla fire will protect you. It's a wonderful thing to know that we have that protection that, that overruling, we'll have got keeps us alive and the devils world, the devil is a murderer. He's a killer and he would like to take you out and take me out. Because we re present Jesus Christ to our friends. And doesn't want them. However, we have ministering spirits are quote, we call guardian angels at guards and take care of us. Protect us and I bet you can think of a few times near life, you should have checked out by something stupid you did. But you're still here God over Rune, and he kept you here. So they three checkpoints in the will of God, which are critical to you and me, they keep our life, on course, and they keep from sliding into arrogance Seth justification. Now. I wanna give you three checkpoints. Listen carefully. The geographical will of God is the first checkpoint. That means where does he want me to be? There is definitely a place where God won't you to be. There is a place for you to serve. I think this has to do a lot with a local church. Thank god. Won't you in a local church under the ministry of a well qualified pastor? If you don't have one in your area that doesn't mean you can't sit under. A pastor. You can do what I do you can order tapes, you can order DVD's, you can order material and studying home until God shows, you where to go, but the geographical will have gone, where does he want me to be indicates that there's a Pacific place. God wants you to serve him. One specific place. He wants you to be. I've seen people pack up and move to a new location so they can get face to face. Teaching from the word of God, I can name, a lot of people that did that they heard a well-qualified pastor. They thought his minister is fantastic, and they moved to his town, so they could go to his church and be part of his congregation that's called pudding priority, number one. So the geographical willow have gone, where does he want me to be number two? The viewpoint will have God is another checkpoint, and this isn't mean what does God won't means a think now David was out of the geographical will of God, and he definitely wasn't thinking view. Point willow. God, you'll see that in just a minute. But then there's the operation will of God another checkpoint to keep your life, on course. And that is, what does he want me to do today, are even with the rest of my life, and I can say simply he wants you to grow and use your spiritual gift and serve him and reap present Jesus Christ. This guidance is provided through scripture, that's how God guys you so you know what his will is his guide you through scripture, and you must act upon it with faith perception faith perception is an amazing thing recently. My own pastors have been teaching on this subject of faith perception. Not noting that the disciples prior to the crucifixion and the resurrection had not faith perception. They had impeccable data. They watched Christ. They talked to Christ were with Christ. It could see him, but anything I'm going to leave, I'm not. Going to be here anymore and you're going to have to operate by faith now and I'll send the Holy Spirit and he'll help you do that. And the Holy Spirit did come to the disciples. They did off right by faith. And you and I read what those disciples wrote we read the canon of scripture, we read the bible, and we operate by faith on faith perception. We believe it, and we act on it. We don't have empirical data. We haven't talked face to face with Christ. We haven't talked face to face with the disciples with the apostles and yet bath faith. We believe what they wrote. So this guy for us is provided scripture, and by means of face perception, that so we will know the operational will have got now David knew better than the lag behind. He knew better. And this is a principle. You need to remember, Satan will take advantage of your lack of obedience if he sees you. You stepping out of the will of God. That's a prime opportunity for Satan to distract you and defeat you so listen to how he did it today. This is a man after God's own heart. This is the man defeated half on the battlefield when he was just a kid. Second Samuel eleven to and it came to pass in the evening. I guess he'd been taking an afternoon nap or something that he of the day it came to pass in the evening. David arose from his bed, and he walked across his roof, walked upon, the roof of his house, and from the roof. He saw a woman, washing herself as second Samuel eleven to, and he saw a woman, washing herself. And the woman was very beautiful to look upon don't know if you're gonna call David peeping Tom what's going on here? I don't quite understand all of that. But I mean it's not a sad to say, somebody expose. Itself as a send a stair lust, obviously, he was taken by the moment he was being tempted in the wrong place. And he faced unnecessary temptation. Sometimes, you'll be exposed to things that doesn't mean that you that you give into those things you may see them and turn away and say, no, I'm not going by into that. He shoulda turned away. He should have given her privacy. He should've said, oh, my gosh. I, I don't need to look at that they should said, lady put some clothes on or whatever. But he didn't. He was in the wrong place. And he faced unnecessary temptation, this tells us something about Satan. Satan new David's weakness. He knew David had a weakness of the flesh. We all have less patterns. We all have a weakness you do. And do some people are have sex less like David did hear some people have powerless like many politicians do today, some people have less for money, less for drugs, less for alcohol, it comes at a lot of different forms, but you can bet this, the bible tells you put on the full armor of God. So you can stand against the strategy of the devil. He knows your patterns. He knows your temptations. He knows your weaknesses. And if you have a less pattern, and you get out of the will, of God, this is what he will use to manipulate you. So David strength is now going to be neutralized by him being in Karnali. That's the nature less pattern at work. It will neutralize you. It will make you week. It'll take you out. Plan of God. And you've got us in nature. You got it from Adam has why the bible says the flesh wars against the spirit the spirit wars against the flesh that contrary when the other as a believer in Jesus Christ, you decide who's going to control your life, either you're going to let God's Holy Spirit. Take control. Are you going? Let your send nature, take control. Both are important because if you allow the second nature to control, and Satan will be able to manipulate you to not present Jesus Christ to shut you up to counter, God's plan and to put you in the battlefield as a casualty the fact that David followed up on his lust the fact that he inquired about this woman is an indication of his own personal failure. He was already out of the will of God, he was already not at the battle Joab. Where should have been. He was already laying back at the castle. And this woman was bashed, Sheba the daughter of helium, and the wife of your eye of the Hittite. You may say who was Araya. He was a process prostate prostate is noted as a gentile who converted to Judaism, and your is name in God is my light more than likely. He was a Judy press alight. And so he was in David's army fighting for David, but he was a Hittite by nature. But he was trustworthy. Very honorable servant of David, this leads us to ask a question. Does God find you trustworthy, and does God find you honorable I know we all violate guts trust. Sometime. We all mess up. We all sin and God's always faithful to you to forgive us. If we use rebound, where the bible says, if we confess our San he's faithful injustice forgiveness, but overall and your fidelity can God trust. You does he trust you trust you to.

"Prince bitterness is a potent force in our world. Valid good force. It's a sinister force a force breaks up human relationships force that fractures family and we wanna talk about bitterness today, because we're going back to the study of the life of David. And as we do, we're going to find that bitterness entered into the life of one of his children, and wrecked havoc on his whole family bitterness doesn't grow in vacuum. There are certain things that act like miracle grow for bitterness, and we want to talk about what these things are because some of you have experienced some of these things, and then we wanna talk about, how do you keep from allowing those things to make you into a bitter person a little bit background because we haven't done this for a while. So let's make sure we're all together. He remembered David was a young shepherd boy, and he grew up to become king of Israel. He took Israel, and he expanded the borders of Israel to the largest limit that they'd ever had. Had. But at the scene of, of his power, he committed adultery with bash Sheba, and yes, God forgave him. But God also informed him there would be some consequences because of what he had done, and one of those consequences was that there would be turmoil constantly in his family until the day. He died now. That turmoil didn't take long start. It wasn't long after this at one of his sons fella named Amnon raped one of his daughters. Amnon half. Sister, gown taymor and taymor was so devastated by this that she had what we would call today. Nervous breakdown her real brother, her full brother, absolute waited for two years. For David do something David did nothing finally absolute took matters in his own hands. He murdered the rapist his half-brother Amnon, and then fled into exile for three years now. That's where we pick up the story here in chapter fourteen. So let's look first one now Joab, who was the commanding. David armies, Joe, a new that the king's heart long for absolute Joab, realized David really missed his son absolute but for some reason, David couldn't seem to do what it took to get him back. So Joab devise a very clever plot to get David to make the decision to bring absolute back. You can read about it and versus two to twenty we're not going to read it, but it worked verse twenty one so the king said, to have very well, I will do it go and bring the young man absolute back verse twenty three so Joab win any brought absolute back to Jerusalem. But the king said, he absolutely must go down to his own house. He must not see my face. So absolute went to his own house, and did not see the face of the Kingston along why in world after the kids been gone three years, what his dad when he comes back to town refuse to see his own son, go, no no idea. I can tell you, it was a bad decision was a bad decision because these two men. That's things he needed to work on. They had some issues they needed to deal with so David on just wanna talk to. Well, that went on for another couple of years, I twenty eight and absolute lift two years in Jerusalem, without seeing the king's face, and then I'm starting to get upset. So he called Joe f Joab wouldn't come see him absolute Semper Joab. Second time Joe. I wouldn't come second time so absolute sent his men out and set. Joab fields on fire absolutes, call the third time's joy, I wanna see Joab showed up. So what are you crazy set my feels on far like that? Are you nuts? What's wrong with you said? Hey man absolute says you'll have I called you twice. And all I got was call waiting you understand. And I didn't like it, and you're going to come see me, and I wanna see my father, so absolute went to see his dad verse thirty three Joab convinced the kingdom invite him in, and it says, verse thirty three absolute came in and bowed down with his face to the ground before the king, and the king kissed. Absolute say that's good. Right. Well, that's good. Yeah. But it's kind of too little too late. I'm afraid I mean, the bible says that there was no discussion. They didn't sit down. They didn't walk through things. They didn't talk to things it was just a hug in a kiss, and that was it. You haven't seen your son in five years. Your son is murdered. Another brother, his all this has gone on after five years. You gave him a hug, and kissing a Pat on the fanny and go. Good to have you back, son. I don't think so. And as a result, to anger, in the bitterness the hatred that absolute must feeling finally boiled over. That was that was the last straw into ugly. Reality, look what he did after fifteen and in the course of time absolute provided himself with a chariot and horses and fifty men to run ahead of him, and he would get up early in stand by the side of the road, leading to the city gate, friends, in ancient Israel. There were no billboards no radio ads TV spots. If you were an aspiring politician, there were only two ways to as that you could campaign the first way, is that you? Hired runners you hired heralds who would run in front of you everywhere. You went and shout out wonderful things about you. Here comes absolute he's for tax cuts. He's for better education. Absolute feels your pain. Absolute absolute. He's our man. If he can't do it. Nobody can absolutely fifty of these guys to run around in front of you. You went to the city game, and that's where you press the flesh. And that's where you kissed the babies because the city gate in those days was kind of a combination of city hall in the town mall, all rolled into one. And so the bible says everyday absolute began going to the city gate and look what he did there, the middle verse two and whenever anybody would come with a complaint, he would say to them verse three he'd say, look your claims valid improper, but there's no Representative of the king here to hear you. If only I were appointed judge in the land, then everyone who had a complaint or a case could come to me, and I would see to it that they get Justice. And whenever anyone would approach him and without kissing, his the king's son, he would go no-no, and he would homeboy himself in bow down before them. And look what it says at the end of her. Six and by doing this. He stole the hearts of the men of Israel away from his dad from his Dan. And at the end of four years of doing this, absolute I handset secret messengers throughout all the kingdom and said when you hear that the trumpet has been blown for me in the city of Hebron, I want everybody to rise up and shout out absolutes. Now, the king, absolute now, the king, he said, well, wait a minute. Do I understand this? Right. This kid's going out and deliberately intentionally undermining his father's kingdom, trying to take over his dad's kingdom. Exactly right. That's disgusting. Well, you're exactly right to see a son betray. And Sella's dad out like this. If you're hearing your father, can you imagine having one of your children, do this to you? He said, we'll on what drives a son or daughter. What drives someone to do this to the very own father, one word bitterness bitterness? Absolute was a man consumed by bitterness and friends when bitterness gets in the driver's seat of a person's life that person becomes capable of doing anything no matter how heinous are awful. It might sound when bitterness takes over our life. We can do anything, then that's the end of the passage. But David leads us to ask the really important question you know this question, but you haven't done it for while. So everybody get ready, ready. Here we go. One two, three. Okay lawn. So what apps bitter. He's trying to overthrow his dad didn't have a thing to do with me. So what? Well, I think it has a lot to do with you and me. Because people haven't changed all that much. Today's David nap SEL friends absolute was a man where the root of bitterness had sprung up and God says, in the bible, see to it that no root of bitterness spring up in any of you for whenever it does many are damaged by its poison and we're going to see over the next couple of weeks. The poison that had sprung up in absolute through this bitterness is going to do exactly what God says it's going to damage all kinds of people not just absolutely not just David. But hundreds and hundreds of innocent people are going to lose their lives because of this bitter streak. And you know what? This is not a problem just for the ancient near east. It's a problem in modern world. We have bitter students walk into high schools and start blowing away fellow students, we have bitter. Employees walk into their place of employment and blow their boss and co workers away these things, existed, our modern world and people go off, like hydrogen gas in the world today. And that leads me to ask two questions as we close today. The first one is this, what are the forces that produced this kind of bitterness and people member? I said, earlier bitterness doesn't grow in a vacuum. So how did ask will get to be bitter like this? And if you're on the verge of being bitter, how'd you get to be the way you are, whether we're four things? David did that produced bitterness? David did all four of them wrong. Here's what they are number one injustice for two years. David did nothing to deal with his son who had raped his daughter now that was both on just and unfair. And you look around you will find that almost without exception bitterness always begins with someone feeling like something unjust unfair has been done. Something partial has been done that the rules have not been applied. Equally to everybody. That's where it always starts. Number two. There was poor communication, David ever. Call absolute in and ask him how he was feeling about this crime done to his sister. No. Did he ever call absolute men and give absolute chance to share his concerns? Give absolute a chance to ask him. Hey, dad. Why aren't you taking any action here? Did he ever call absolute in and ask absolute just to talk to him a little bit? So he could at least give absolute the feeling that his dad was even interested in what he was thinking. No. This is why God tells us in the bible, if you know that someone has something against you, you go be reconciled of that person, you go talk about it. You go open the pay ways communication because it's very hard, if not impossible for bitterness to happen, when people are talking and listening to one another from the heart. It's almost impossible. But David didn't do this. He stiff armed absolute third. There was real in show because David wasn't communicating with us on absolute David was clueless about how absolute was feeling because he didn't understand I was feeling he was incredibly insensitive. I'm sure there were days, and he was walking down the palace just just happy as a lark, and he comes absolutely other way. And he's like, hi, son. How are you beautiful day? God bless you an absolute walks by now. He's matter. Because his dad understand the fury that he's feeling about his brother. The dad doesn't understand the sense of violation that he's feeling for his sister. The dad doesn't understand the hurt that's going on inside of him, and now he's even madder because the man's completely insensitive fourth and.
