"I mean, that seems like it will be the fairest way to do it. And again, I think what's really tough about it is just like the win percentage thing would, if you just go strictly on one percentage, it rewards a team and you just said this, but it rewards a team and achieves. That loss head to head. You have to both teams trying to chase some town and that didn't have the opportunity to try and do it. I mean, I don't know how, I don't know how we do this. And when we went into Monday night, that's the thing. Like the bills controlled the one seed and the Bengals had a shot at it too. You know what I mean? Like the thing is the Bengals, if you have a three way tie, the Bengals people at those teams, because you would need to get the buffalo to get into the three way tie. Look, if the chiefs now all of a sudden. Yeah. Yeah, right, exactly. If the chiefs beat the Raiders, if the chiefs beat. If the chiefs beat the Raiders, the Bengals would never have been able to catch the chiefs anyway, despite having already beaten them. So that's one thing. It would just basically be the Buffalo Bills not having an opportunity to put their head to head tiebreak on the table by the end of the day and say, what's up with that? So maybe if the chiefs win, then the bills and the chiefs get played where in like, it would have to be outdoors, right? You're not putting that in a dome because those are two outdoor stadiums. I don't know. And the apples is a dome. I don't know. You got to go outdoors somewhere cold. Indianapolis is sort of like halfway, right? I don't know if you put it outside or not. Open the roof. That, right? You know, earth always tweets out whether the roof's open. I don't know. I mean, maybe there's really no answer. Hey, look, before I let you go, I'll give you an opportunity to combine the two things that you're great at, which is reporting on the NFL and trolling Michigan. So what's the deal with Harbaugh? What do you got for me on that? What do you got for me? Yeah. I think the important thing here is to sort of I think it's like look at the timeline here. And I think there was a period where Jim was in high demand from the NFL. When he first got to Michigan and he rebuffed interest back then and you know, I'm talking about like the period, maybe his first four years at Michigan, right? And then that interest leveled off. And I think by the time 2020 came along when he had to take the pay cut, like that option wasn't there for him. He looked, and he was like, hey, I went to the Chargers. Went to the jets trying to drum up NFL interest and it wasn't there. And then even last year, I think some of that interest was a little bit more outgoing than incoming. So I think there's some degree, Jim has felt his mortality as an NFL coach. Like we're early in this time at Michigan, it seemed automatic that that opportunity was going to be there no matter what. Whenever he wanted it. And I think now it's more, well, like I'm almost 60, is that chance going to be there again? And if I can generate interest now, am I sure that I'll be able to generate the same interest two or three years from now? And I think that that's a part of the equation here. And so whether or not he goes, I don't know. But I do think for the first time in a few years, the interest from the NFL is incoming rather than outgoing. And I think that that's a factor here. Indianapolis has a guy, there are assistant general manager Ed Dodds who would have been Harbaugh's general manager in Vegas last year if our ball had gotten the Vegas job. Obviously, Denver's got the connections through Stanford with Condoleezza Rice and Greg penner, both being Stanford alums, rice actually has a relationship with Harbaugh. So like there are a couple of natural landing spots there. I think you look at those rosters, Carolina two and you see some similarities and that there is some frontline talent on those rosters. And there's a need to get the quarterback position right, which is sort of what it was in San Francisco when he went there. And so you can see all of it. I will say this. And I mean this 100% like in a genuine way. Yes. He's got the Michigan program and a great great spot. And they've got a really good team coming back next year. So that's the part I can't predict. I think if this was like JJ McCarthy and Donovan Edwards and all those guys leaving, like I think that this would be, I gotta go. You know what I mean? I gotta take my shot now. I think one thing that probably makes it hard for him at this point is that he's got the program in a really good spot and he's got a really good team coming back next year. Well, the issue. That's what I really can't. That's what I don't know. I don't know how much weight that's going to have in this whole thing because I do believe my reporting over the last 7 or 8 years on him has always been he's got unfinished business in the NFL. So we'll see whether or not he has the offer and then how much the idea of the team he has coming back from at Michigan weighs on him when he's making the final call. Well, I mean, that is the ultimate thing is what you don't know is really what is in his heart or hearts and in his head, like, is he truly chasing that tilting at that windmill that is not winning a Super Bowl and what would it be less of a yearn for it if he didn't lose to his brother? Is there some sort of familial rivalry that's part of this thing? Or is it just the fact that his contract isn't in line with the rest of coaches who have taken teams to the back to back college football playoffs? And that this is all a leverage play. Which wouldn't surprise me either. What is it? What is it? And I certainly think I certainly do the money thing is not to be ruled out. I do know there are things when he was in the pros where compensation was a factor. You know what I mean? And so like is it possible that he does feel like, hey, put it this way. After if your employer forced you to take a pay cut, like, right? To stay on, you probably wouldn't be inclined to do them any favors from a financial standpoint going forward, right? I think that's just, that's just being a human being. And so I don't think you can rule that out either. I do think that there was a part of him last year where when the Vikings then came up, he was still angry that they made him take a pay cut. You know, because there's like a little bit of a embarrassed me. I feel into that. So I think that was actually like last year was a piece of the puzzle and like going on signing day and doing all of that. I think that was part of the puzzle for him, you know, was like you put me out there and maybe take a pay cut and maybe walk the plank and all that. So I think after what he went through there, it'd be hard to blame him for trying to leverage a better deal out of Michigan now. Before I let you go, I got about 60 seconds left. So real quick, we're going to get a decision on what's happening with this bill's Bengals game. Now that we're seeing a better prognosis for demar Hamlin when before Saturday, so we'll know all this going in and the seatings and everything.

"Team in the nation. And at dogfight down, what is it? I think 11 points right now at the TCU. After a disappointing first half by the Michigan Wolverine to terms their ability to run the ball and stop the run, Deandre Miller, the tennis, the TCU running back, goes down early in the second quarter, no problem for TCU. This has over 240 rushing yards before the fourth quarter of a starts 41 30 Texas Christian. What's up, man? Happy new year, everybody was good. Everybody. It is very determined whether or not you're happy new year. It's going to be a happy new year. I just relax. I'm sorry, and I know this is a national radio show, but guess what, folks. Right now you're talking to two big time Michigan fans. Yes. And I'm sorry if you're looking for an if you're looking for bias analysis on TCU, I will do my level best, but right now, if Jim Harbaugh blows this thing, that's where I'm at. Go ahead, be nightmare. Nah, everything is cool, man. It's 11 point game. 41 and 30 can't turn the ball over. That's what's happening in this game. It has off the TCU TCU's defense of taking two pick 6s and JJ McCarthy's got to be better for the rest of this game and he has been. He's running for it starts down that long run and then should have had two touchdown passes. The touchdown. They took away from Wilson in the first half with some straight BS, but then you can't just spend two bad calls on the go on my horrible. And you know what the other thing about it real quick. They were white. It was nobody else around. Yeah. There's nobody else around. There's not even a need to honestly to review either one of those plays because on naked eye it was a touchdown and it was easy. However, Michigan didn't convert one converted to the other, and has just taken the ball away. Exactly one will look like a bad exchange. Let's go. Like I would say, relax, just relax. No, this game is not going the way that I thought it would go. I was on with the great Bernie fratto and at 1 a.m. this morning. And he asked me, Vijay, if I wake up tomorrow morning, and Michigan has lost this football game, what would you tell me happened and how they lost. And my exact words, if Michigan can't run the football, average it all two 50 a game on the ground. And if JJ McCarthy has two or more turnovers, they will lose this game or be in jeopardy. It loses in this game. And that's what's happened, JJ McCarthy has two picks, 6s. Michigan does have three takeaways themselves now, so a chance to get back in this game. I tweeted earlier when they were down. Everybody just relax, but you can tell it looks a little different. It looks a little weird. It doesn't look like the normal Michigan football. The question is 'cause

"He came out and flat out said, we're going to have to slow and overcome that initial onslaught. Get our feet settled in in about two plays. We can't go a couple of series. If we don't, you're going to look up and you've got given up 14 points early and we can't do that with a team like Michigan. And the reason Joe Gillespie is afraid of Michigan starting fast, like they have throughout most of the season. The pressure on JJ McCarthy. But if TCU can do a good enough job against the run, it inherently puts more on JJ McCarthy's plate to be a factor. You hate to keep talking about it and Michigan fans will get pissed off, but McCarthy looked good on three throws against Ohio State. Past that the same concerns we had leading up to that game were present. And if TCU can somehow show well against the run with 6 guys or maybe they allocate some more guys in the middle there. It's going to go a long ways because if you look at JJ McCarthy, he's actually struggled against 5 defensive back looks. Yards per pass attempt dip three yards against 5 defensive back looks completion percentage drops 20% positive EPA rate falls 18%. Aside from a handful of passes this season, JJ McCarthy hasn't shown an ability to consistently be efficient pushing the ball downfield, but it won't matter if TCU can't stop the run or if TCU can't build a lead. Those are the two ways to force JJ McCarthy to be a consistent factor in this game. And if that happens, then we're going to have a real game beer. Such an interesting matchup because you look at the strength of this TCU defense and it's clearly in their defensive backfield with Newton and Hodges Tomlinson. If those guys will be put on an island and how Michigan will elect to use some of their heavy sets, trying to get their tight ends involved. And what TCU does with that three three 5 defense? Do they end up sliding 8 guys up to try and stop the run? Or do they try and disguise a lot of their coverages, especially early on to your point, knowing that Michigan hasn't really encountered this, makes for such a fascinating exes and it was match up in a true contrast in styles where we know styles make fights and that will be the definition of it as far as the first college football playoff semifinal. You can follow and you can see that mix, right? You can see that mix where it's like, hey, we're showing three three 5 pre snap. And we're going to try to confuse a young kid and suddenly post snap like we're sending blitzes into the box. That's very much a possibility. I mean, quin ewers looked absolutely baffled by everything that TCU wanted to do. And I give Michigan a hell of a lot more credit and creativity to have a month to devise game plans there, but that arguably guys, I mean, was probably the one of the most eye opening performance of the season, not just because of the way the game was bad. But because I didn't think TCU had that in them and Texas had absolutely no answers for four quarters. And while I like Matt Weiss and Sharon Moore with what they've been able to do leaning on the offensive line, Steve sarkisian as an offensive mind just had no answers for TCU. So if they can replicate that performance, we're in for a four quarter fight. And I think that's what all of us as college football fans probably want unless you're sitting on a Michigan ticket -7 and a half, given how one sided some of these playoff games have been in recent memory. You can follow pain on Twitter at pain inside or you can follow Brad there as well at Brad power 7, I'm Todd fuhrman follow me on social media and again, most importantly, follow the podcast at the board pod. From the semifinals to January 2nd, where we have a tandem a bowl games that'll kick off early out here on the West Coast with the cotton bowl. And this number all over the place, gentlemen, albeit not on key numbers. You can lay a price as short as minus one on USC. You can take a number as great as high as two and a half on the tulane green wave in the 87th cotton bowl classic. Total on this game 62 62 and a half pretty much the prevailing spreads there. Tulane will make their first appearance in a year 6 bull since 1939, 2022, AAC champions, second outright title for the program since 1949, 12th win would tie the program record when they finished 12 O back in 1998 and one of the single greatest turnarounds in all of college football. I had tipped to Willie Fritz and everything he'd accomplished. Meanwhile, USC, Lincoln Riley, now has had a Heisman winner in three of his 6 seasons as a head coach with Caleb Williams getting added to the likes of Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. They're seeking their first bull win as a program since the 2016 season when you look at SC recently the over has hit in 7 straight games as they've averaged almost 78 points per contest. They did lose to Utah and the PAC 12 championship game made it to 5th team since conference championships began in 1992 to be unbeaten through conference championships except conference championship play, except for two losses to the same opponent. When you look at these two teams, Brad, tulane, I know you were bullish on coming into the season. USC, we all thought, hey, look, they can be very good, but still might not meet odds makers expectations. Power numbers as far as tulane and USC as we look at the 14th data point for both these sides. Yeah, so obviously tulane being a team that far exceeded expectations. And then some, I mean, coming off a two win season, they got double digit wins. I mean, that's one of the biggest turnarounds in the history of college football, not just for this season, but one of the best teams in the country when it comes to ATS margin. The 11 and two against the spread, they covered by about 7 and a half points per game on average. I'm close to that. I've actually upgraded them about 9 points since the start of the season. I think a lot of it's legitimate. They're going back to TCU a little bit. Obviously, I thought there was some fluke Ness going on for the middle portion of their season. Tulane to me just looks the part for at least a G 5 team. Right now, easily in my top 25. So that's about as good as it gets as far as G 5 team goes. USC on that side of the power rating for them. It's complicated because obviously they exceeded my expectations, even though I thought they'd be the most improved team in the country. I also thought they were the most overrated team because of where the market was pricing them in the futures market, season wind total, and whatnot. The reason why there's confliction there is because I think it's a simple handicap for me. What is the health status of Caleb Williams? If he is close to a 100% and then hamstring is good. Number seems a little light and it would be light in my power ratings. If he's not a 100% or if for some reason he can't go, then obviously I mean you got to I mean, he's worth more than a touchdown. Obviously the point spread, even in a Lincoln Riley quarterback driven offensive system, right now it says that he's probably going to play and not be a 100%. That's where I'm at in my power running. I'm closer than lying here. USC three three and a half is where I have it. And Caleb has been pretty outspoken about him wanting to be involved in the game plan. We know he's going to return to campus and try and be able to account for some unfinished business at least in his eyes and get USC to the college football playoff. But pain when Caleb goes into this game, even if he is out there in a limited capacity, the offensive line is going to look significantly different than what it did for long periods of the season for he's out at left guard. Jonah monheim will likely be moving from right tackle the left guard. You could see mason Murphy Murphy slightly slot in the right tackle. So very different looking building blocks in front of him. We know Jordan Addison opting out dealing with that ankle injury wants to get himself ready for the NFL Draft. And so as you assess the USC's offense against this two lane defense, look, we can't sugarcoat it. This is clearly going to be a jolt to the green wave system for as well as they've played against AEC opponents. They haven't exactly encountered this level of speed that they're going to see in spades against the Trojans. Yeah, I think that's the ultimate mental gymnastics you play. You're looking at prices. You're looking at match ups. You're looking at injuries and then you're just like, oh my God, you get on the field and it's this talent gap. This game certainly means more for tulane than it does USC. I mean, you listen in just kind of view everything from

"Said that both teams, both coaches showed the immaculate reception to their teams, including Josh McDaniels with the Raiders, not the greatest moment in raiders history there. I've seen that play probably a hundred times in the past couple of days since Franco passed away. And one thing I don't think it's sold enough about it is it's the ultimate example of the way that you want guys to finish plays. He's so far away. We talked about this. He's so far away from the play. And somehow makes up that ground. The ball has to take the biggest Karim in NFL history 20 yards to get into his hands, but he continued to play. It's the embodiment of the attitude, the coaches want their players to have in terms of you may think you're out of the play. You're not. As long as that ball is live, you've got an opportunity to do something. I'm also going to see in terms of the tributes and things that steelers may have within the game. From my understanding, they're going to go through all the things that they were going to do in terms of the number of the ceremonies and everything else, but whether it's nod G wearing something, or their numbers changing are there, whatever it might be, Mike Tomlin, you don't need any extra motivating factor here, but certainly to the extent that Franco Harris was a guy who so perfectly embodied what being a Pittsburgh steeler is about, you're going to be reminding your team of that, I would think. The energy in the building should be electric on Saturday night. If everyone's not too cold to make noise out there, it's going to be chilly out there, but you know, we had the color Tom Cullen the day he passed and he made a suggestion which I don't know if they can even do this. Not as you wear 32 for the first half of the game just to honor Franco. I don't know if that's something that could be done. My suggestion was like have the running backs pull up those hip pads. You remember Franco used to always have the big hip pad. You don't really see that a lot too much. I thought that might be a nice little tribute to as a way to honor him, but it's going to be something else. Have naji where his old shoulder pads were Franco's. Those big ones. Those 70s highlights, man. I can't get over it like no one looks. Before the immaculate reception, Ken stabler has that scramble for the touchdown. Everybody use the snake and he was the guy who was the playmaker. If you watched that play, Ken Steven looks like his leg is broken. He's like dragging himself with like the ill fitting pads and he's just kind of limping toward the end zone. It's like this slow developing play just the difference in speed to what the game is. Now Franco Harris had speed. He had speed and power. He watched that play, but some of the other things, especially at the quarterback position, what we thought of as like the mobile quarterback, the guy who extended plays. A lot of cases was not getting stabler was not, you look at him like athletically, he was not somebody you were really fearing there, but sure enough he's running 30 plus yards for a touchdown in a really big spot in that game. That's going to be just in terms of two of the implications for this. Mike Tomlin trying to defend his streak of never having a losing season, 16 years and running here. He's got to keep that alive. Both these teams trying to stay in the playoff picture. A really talented raiders team. They are. You look at the upper end of the talent on their roster, whatever they're still trying to make up in terms of the depth and the culture and everything else. They've got the players to be dangerous if somehow they can figure out a way to win out and end up playing well into January. The rest of the games too, this weekend. We've talked about it just in terms of the final destination types of games. Do the Seahawks. You just put a marquee Goodwin as a potential fantasy option. The Seahawks when you look at them, you don't say this is a team that's built for this. They shouldn't be around. It's like what I set off the top of the show about the New York Jets. There is a danger to playing above the level, to winning too much too soon. But the Seahawks are still in it, and they're playing for a potential playoff spot here. They're in that position right now. But if they went win loss win loss win loss the whole season, you probably perceive it differently than, okay, they've had a little rough little rough patch here toward the end of the season, but be careful we'll have them showing up. There's no doubt about that. They are going to show up. They're going to be competitive. You're talking about one of the best defensive minds in modern NFL history and Pete Carroll. Going against one of the greatest offensive minds in all of NFL history in Andy Reid. But to the Seahawks, do you have a pass rush? Do you have enough to be able to disrupt what the chiefs are able to do? The cheese office doesn't seem to matter. Who else is out there? You know, it's jerick McKinnon. You know, dust him off. And all of a sudden he score and touchdowns and making plays. But there's a guy to have a game for one team and generally speaking, I don't overlook any team that's in that type of a you must win spot. Although the jets were in that spot last night, didn't exactly work. Jaguars were two. He had two of those teams. Brett beeley,

"Glory and win those championships. We must open up the book. To Gardner minshew. That's right. Listen, I don't think Gardner minshew's as good as Jalen hurts. I don't, but I do believe this. Look, he could be the 5th quarterback this season to get scored 20 or more points against the cowboys. And he did start two games last year without AJ Brown. He actually had 18 points against the cowboys in week 18 last year, so I feel like Garner's probably good for about a 20 point game this week. I felt like there's gonna be some points put up. I went and hesitate. If you have the option, if you had hurts and no other quarterback, slight gardener in there. I don't think he's gonna let you down. I think he'll put up some decent numbers. Raheem mostert. Dolphins against the packers. Now, most of her had 17 carries for a buck 36 and a catch for 20 yards last week, right? He's a good matchup against the pack because they've allowed a running back to score at least 13 PPR points in each of the last 5 games, so I like him as a starter if you have the chance to slide him in there. And then marquise Goodwin. I just like marquise Goodman, man. And I feel, you know, lock it out, broke his finger. DK Metcalf is going to be seeing, you know, a lot of coverage. So, got a good feeling about marquise, slide him in there, the chiefs have allowed the 5th most fantasy points against opposing wide receivers. So, brother Goodman, I just got a good feeling about him. I feel that he might lead you to the land of milk and honey. What percentage of leagues is marquise Goodwin owned in right now? I think I saw this project 20%. It's not very high. It can't be. He's out there. You're saying in the playoffs. He's a playoff. Regular season. When the money's on the marquee Tom when it's all on the line, yes, indeed. And if you have a chance. Look, he's just a guy that he's sitting out there for sure if you have the room, you probably had lock it, he's out. He's going to put him in there. Now we're going to go to the header gut pick, right? This is the one where you just have to look at the stats, you got to go with your gut. And for this header gut pick, something happened as we all know in the football world, Franco Harris passed away. And we were going to celebrate that immaculate reception. Now he's going to get a different type of macula reception when he reaches the Holy Land when he reaches the pearly Gates. That's going to be the greatest type of immaculate reception. I believe the Franco Harris can get as he transitions. I'm going to say in honor of him, let's start naji Harris against Las Vegas. Because the stories already written, right? He got the Franco Harris thing, you got the immaculate reception. Pittsburgh is going to be buzzing. There's going to be something about this game. And I feel like najee has a chance to maybe, you know, put his stamp on the game, honor Franco Harris, and also I'll give you some stats of the Raiders have allowed the 5th most fantasy points to running backs this year and a running back has scored or gained a hundred total yards against Vegas 9 games in a row, with 12 touchdown scored over that span and najeh had scored the touchdown the four of his past 5, so I believe. The brother Franco's gonna look down on him and maybe bless najee that have a huge game and that's what we're looking rest in peace, Franco. Can I get an amen? Amen. Can I get an amen? Amen. I want to thank you for taking this dance as a journey with me this week and as always, let us play. Wow. Good stuff. I'm sorry. Sorry.

So that started my sophomore year in high school and it was the first game that I lost. And it was a brutal game, not gonna lie, just nothing was going our way. And I was pretty pissed off throughout the whole game. And I was signing autographs at the end for a lot of the kids and this little girl I was signing her newspaper and she said, why did you look so mad out there? It didn't look like you were having any fun. And it was like one of those conversations didn't feel real because it was really profound conversation for this young girl. And she was just like, you need to smile more. You need to have fun and she kept saying that and she drew a smiley face on my hand after I gave her the sharpie back. And from then on, I was like, you know, it's really that simple. You perform your best when you're having fun. When you're a stressed and you're kind of resisting your own inner world, then things are just going to be out of whack and not aligned with your performance and your optimal play. And from then on, I just kept a smile on the face on my hand and we went undefeated. One of the state championship that year and I was just like, you know what? This is a really subtle, small gesture that will be very profound later in life, just being able to spread positivity in any way I can. And sometimes you have to look down at your hand and remind yourself during a game. A little bit, you know, a little bit, just it brings me back to that moment. It brings me back to sophomore year where really not playing for anything, but your pride for your school and obviously your pride for yourself. But just you're playing ball at the end of the day. It's just you and your guys, the same a 120 yard field and the same plays, just drawn up in different ways and more complex, more detail, but it's all the same game at the end of the day. So it just kind of grounds me a little bit. Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy, few more minutes left with him here on the rich eisen show, what would winning the national championship mean to you? You know, obviously it would mean wonders to me, but for this university, that's what we want it for. We want to further this great university because we want to be the leaders in the best. You know what I mean? We want to be known as that solidified as that. And that's just everything we're striving for since the Georgia game last year is for that national championship. So it would just mean a lot for all the hard work that's been put in that it's paid off, but ultimately it's for the pride of the school for sure. And then your personal goals long-term. What do you got for me? I definitely personally selfishly. I want to be known as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. And another goal would be to get my foundation to raise over a $1 million and distribute a $1 million in the next four or 5 years. It's already been in $30,000, which has been amazing. And just being able to make an impact beyond football is my ultimate goal. So let me take that one at a time the last part first JJ McCarthy foundation and you're using some of your NIL funds and things like that. Yes, sir. Right now. Yeah, so JJ for the kids dot org is the name of the foundation of the website and so all my merchandise that has a place on it, all of those proceeds go to the foundation. And last year, I did 10,000 out of NIL money just to hospitals for the way teams that we played because we didn't have enough money in the foundation yet, so I just wanted to use my own money. And I mean, it's been tremendous, the amount of support and the donations that came in for the foundation. And I'm so excited this year, I'm going to expand it just past childhood cancer because as I've been educating myself here at this great university, I've realized there's so many areas that need help in need assistance in this world. So definitely going to expand it to mental health, the homeless, the environment, the animals, there's so many things that I could put my hands in, but yeah, I mean, that foundation's near and dear to my heart. And I'm just really happy with the success so far. JJ for the kids dot org. Yes, sir. Okay. And then in terms of being the best ever when you stroll into the Michigan locker room, there's if I'm not mistaken from when I was there last time, not one, but two pictures of Tom Brady on the wall. Yes. Is that what you're envisioning when you're talking about a hundred percent? Yes. I have so much respect for them and everything he's done with what he's been given. But I'm chasing him. I'm chasing him. I texted him right when I got here, actually. On Instagram. And I told him I want to get the ring that you didn't get. And that kind of goes to this year and winning that national championship, but ultimately it's the goals to have more rings than that guy. And do whatever I can to follow his blueprint and hopefully surpass him. Well, did he respond to you? Did he hit you back? He did after the Ohio State game. He did. He said, great job. And how great is that for you?

"Drive sober or get pulled over, paid for by nitsa. Tom pilo in for rich on the rich eisen show, rich called in an hour or so ago from Pittsburgh, largely to vent about his quarterback with the jets, Zach Wilson. A quarterback who's made him happier this year, JJ McCarthy, from Michigan, the wolverines taking on TCU and the Fiesta bowl on New Year's Eve. Rich caught up with JJ McCarthy. Let's play it. Joining me now here on the rich eisen shows the quarterback of the Big Ten champion Michigan wolverines getting set to take on TCU in the Fiesta bowl in the college football playoff semifinal JJ McCarthy. How are you doing JJ? I'm doing amazing. Super grateful and appreciative for you having me on Reddit. It's an honor. Well, I want to part of the reason why I want to have you on is I want it also just tell you how much fun I am having every single Michigan Wolverine former student current student. Anybody that I know how much fun they're having, how much fun are you guys having? It looks like you're having a blast out there. Yeah, it really is. I mean, obviously not losing football game. You're having the most fun in the world. But just like the camaraderie around this building, the chemistry that's been built since that 2020 year. Everything's just been positive and energetic and everything moving in the right direction. So it's just a blessing to be a part of the ride and another piece of the puzzle, honestly. Well, let's talk about your journey here. I heard a story about how you got to the University of Michigan, you're from the state of Illinois. How did you get to Michigan? How did you make this choice? How is always a Big Ten fan, you know? Obviously growing up in Chicago, the game was always on, you know? And for the longest, I was on the other side, you know? So I felt gravitated towards the rivalry and just things went in recruiting and things shaking out and I got to see both schools and I was like, you know what? After actually being here and being in both places, this is the place to be. It was just that kind of intrinsic feeling that I felt when I was here that it was almost meant to be for me to be here and whatever it was that was telling me that I'm extremely grateful for it because it's played out in the best way possible. So when you said the other side, when you were watching the game the rivalry, Michigan and Ohio State, you were rooting. You know, I was a Braxton Miller fan when I was little. Yeah, so I kinda, whether it was rooting for him, and he was just associated with the other side, but yeah, yeah. I'll put that as the root of that. It's for sure. Look, it matters how you finish, right? Yes. It doesn't matter how you start. And I was already finished. Exactly. If I'm not mistaken, you know, you were going and then you went to Michigan and that's what you fell in love with, or. You had urban leave or something like that. You and Donovan were together. Did I read something about that? Yes. I mean, urban left and urban was kind of the guy that was recruiting me and after he left, it was kind of just coach day's show and coach day kind of wanted to go a different route at the quarterback position for the 2021 class. And you know, I respect him for his decision, but that was just something that kind of jump started a little fire in me. And it was the same way for Donovan. And just being able to be experienced one of those blessings in disguise is because you really think you know at all and you think that you know what's best for you, but you know, God knows what's best for you and he's going to put you in the right situation. So it was one of those situations for sure, but after that visit where he kind of told me that it was probably going to go a different route. I came here like we can have later and coach Harbaugh showed nothing but love and it was just like that instantaneous family feel where you felt comfortable right away and that's hard to feel at a lot of places when you're on these college visits because a lot of it's in genuine and there's a lot of just like shiny glitz and glamour all this, which here it was nothing like that and it was just all about if you love football, you should be here. And if you love the work you should be here. So what's your relationship with Jim Harbaugh like on a day to today basis? He said publicly JJ that he, you remind him a little bit of him and I'm wondering what vibe you get. I want to say it's definitely like a father son relationship. I mean, he treats every single one of his players like his own. And it's a little bit special when it's the quarterback because obviously he played here in the same shoes and everything like that. But on a day to today basis, it's just all love. It's all love, but you know, there'll be some times where I'll try it behind the back pass or sometimes I'll try underhand one and he'll grill me a little bit and it's all love though at the end of the day and that's something that's really hard to come by in this business. JJ McCarthy quarterback in the Michigan wolverines getting sent to take on TCU in the Fiesta bowl in just a few days right here on the rich eisen show. So you woke up that day in Columbus, Ohio, feeling what? A couple Saturdays ago. It was crazy, you know, because it was one of those feelings where I was dreaming of that moment, my entire life, but when it actually was playing its course, it was one of those feelings where it's just like, wow, I'm still unsatisfied. I still feel this empty feeling in my stomach, that I was not expecting at all. And it was almost super exciting to kind of feel that because there was so much more that could be accomplished when you think that accomplishing that is like a huge stepping stone in one's career. But it was just, yeah, that sense of unfulfilled feeling that, you know, there's so much more to be done. And that was just really exciting to kind of feel that. And know that we have a chance to do something really special. The conversation surrounding Blake coram not being there and obviously Donovan Edwards had a hand in a cast and then your arm and your shoulder and your legs and your heart and mind is what really stood out. And I'm wondering what you said to yourself that day. If anything. Yeah. It's okay if you're just like, hey man, I'm 19, I'm just went out and just ripped it. You know, I mean, that's good. Yeah, I mean, 100%, it was kind of more of that towards, I want to say the second quarter, but I want to say leading up to it all week, like a lot of guys that played and I can't talk about it. It starts that next Sunday after the previous game where everything starts creeping in. And it was almost like a conversation with my younger self for the whole week. It was just, I felt that it was almost a movie like moment where it was something that I was looking forward to for so long and it was finally here and it felt weird. But when I was out there, it was just, like I said, it was just talking to my younger self like, you know, you prepared for this since you were in 5th grade. This is everything that you wanted and it's right here. It's given to you, take advantage of that opportunity. And it was just repeating them onto your mind. I had to take advantage of the opportunity. And with, like you said, with Blake being out with Donna being short handed, unintended. The opportunity was just right there for the taking.

"And Cleveland. Oh. What's more likely, Sean Payton still at Fox next year? I'll take it. Are you reporting that? Don't tweet it. Don't get his hopes up. This is your idea. Sean Payton back at Fox next year on an NFL sideline. Great question. Sean's going to be targeted in terms of where he's willing to go. And he's not going to come cheap. And the saints have to trade them. It's a lot of moving parts. I believe in the right scenario, Sean Payton is back on the sideline. But he's not just going to take a job to take a job. If the best if he has offered Houston. Okay? Right. And the Texans, at this point, they need something to love you Smith is still employed. I don't mean to jump ahead of ourselves here. But if they were to, if that's the only job, I don't know why Sean Payton would do it. He can go do broadcasting continue to wait. You know, he's got to make some decisions, but I know this. He's been he's refreshed. He's taking his time away, you know, just golfing, working out, you know, enjoying his family, living out in Los Angeles. You know, he is in a different place than he was a year ago, and you're in a place for 16 years. Where he can wear you out. So I believe that he's in the right mind frame to want to do it. And he's one of the best offensive minds that you've ever had. And he took a team in New Orleans. That was a non factor and at all kinds of problems and takes over miss Hurricane Katrina and turns them into a perennial contender twice. Wins the Super Bowl, then they inevitably go through that rebuild phase. They have a couple of rough seasons in there. And then they're back and they're winning ten, 11, 12 games every year again. That's really, really hard to do. So I mean, I have the utmost respect for Sean Payton. It's just a matter of this everything line up where it's the right spot because if it's not, he's not just going to take a job to take a job.

The Paul Finebaum Show

"I do think this is a chance for both of these guys to kind of write the ship a little bit, especially we're talking about a world where the House state wins the national title. They will have to beat the reigning national champions while also potentially getting a rematch with Michigan and beating them in a national championship game. It doesn't erase those two losses, but it does use the pain a little bit and kind of paint a new picture for both of those guys. So day's job isn't on the line, but we've reached the point where he's only got 5 losses, but he's not this offensive failed miserably in those 5 losses, not even .30 points in any of those losses for an offensive average 40 plus points a game and his tenure here while also they've been the playoff caliber teams every single time. And so they need to be competitive at bare minimum just to ease some of these fans psyche, but when involves task football play off semifinal international championship game will vastly change the opinion for both of those two guys. Steven, before you go, you mentioned it and I realized we're three and a half weeks away from it being even a possibility, but let's, for example, or for instance, say that Michigan and Ohio State win, can you give us some sense of how big that would be to have arguably the greatest rivalry in college football to be decided, a national to be deciding a national championship? I mean, we saw a one versus two matchup in 2006 that was called the game of the century. We got two versus three, a couple of weeks ago to get that on a national championship stage. I mean, Ryan did call to the historic if it happens. I mean, they were asking JJ McCarthy about it after the big ten championship game, and you could already see he was salivating at the idea of it, even if it doesn't exist yet. TV ratings everywhere. We introduce stratosphere with that level of a game of what these two fan bases are, but what this problem is and the history behind it, but also it's a peak into what might be the new normal. This might not be the last time that Ohio State and Michigan be twice in the same season. The big tennis talked about getting rid of the division. So if a hollow state and Michigan are the best two teams, they could be playing on the last weekend of November of turnaround and play immediately again in Indianapolis where Big Ten championship game, but then also with the expanding playoff, you know, they could play on a playoff game for all we know. And so in the moment it would be probably the biggest thing that either one of these programs has seen and maybe college football scene, but it's also a reminder of just this might not be the only time we get this opportunity just because of the way college football is changing. Steven means, thank you very much. You'd be well. We'll talk to you in a couple weeks when we get down to Atlanta. Thanks, Paul. Thanks for having me. Interesting the perspective from Ohio about how big that would be, maybe the biggest game ever when you consider since 2011 was at 11 years ago. The SEC has had three all SEC finals. Do we ever say any of those type of things when that happened? No. Guess not. We're just used to it down here. We'll take a break.

"But let's keep us moving. Another tremendous matchup where east meets west and its Michigan for the second straight year. A massive favorite this time taking on Purdue, Michigan, a 17 point chalk here. Total on the game 51 and a half Michigan will make their second appearance in the conference championship. They obviously beat Iowa down last year 42 to three. They do own 43 Big Ten titles the most all time, 17 outright title. Second, only behind Ohio State at 24, but they have not won the conference championship outright back to back since 1991 92. Purdue will make their maiden voyage to the Big Ten Conference championship. Their most recent title is a program came back in 2000. The only outright total came back in 1929 and Purdue receives the dubious distinction of becoming the second unranked team to play in the Big Ten championship, joining only 2012 Wisconsin. And Wisconsin only got there because of postseason bans to Ohio State and Penn State. I give you all of that Brad to open this up with Michigan's power rating from where they are now versus where they started this season and how surprised were you with that dominating effort, especially in the second half, going into Columbus and taking Ohio State's lunch. First, when I hear east meets west, I immediately think of rocky four and the question here is Purdue Apollo rocky. I tend to think they're more on the Apollo side here. As far as Michigan goes, yeah, I mean, I was stunned by the second half to say the least. Typically in some of the biggest games of the year, you don't see going into the game what you expected to see. And then for a majority of the first half, even though there was some surprising play calls on the defensive side for Ohio for Ohio State, I still felt good with a preflop position on Ohio State against Michigan even at halftime. And then the entirely the flip gets flipped. The script gets flipped in the second half. I don't know how you don't upgrade Michigan least a couple points. I mean, to do that without Blake quorum, and a majority of the couple point upgrade is we hadn't seen Michigan really test the waters in the vertical passing game. Obviously, they got mission accomplished in that regard. We saw JJ McCarthy throw it down the field. They beat cover zero multiple times. And they go in and get their first win in Columbus in 22 years and do it in dominating fashion in the second half. Since the start of the year, I've upgraded Michigan about 5 and a half points. I mean, I had them forth at the start of the year. And even though I'm upgrading them 5 and a half points, I believe it or not, folks, I still would have Michigan and underdog to Ohio State on a neutral field and you don't automatically change teams powering exact significantly off one performance, specifically 30 minutes. But yeah, I don't know how you can't be impressed with Michigan after that one. Yeah, I mean, I think people are always blown away, Brad, when you say things like, well, team AB team B that automatically means they're better. It is not that simple and straightforward. When you do this for a living and you're trying to properly assess these teams, there's no doubt Michigan showed a level of physicality that Ohio State couldn't match. And pain, you and I, of course, heavily invested much like our listeners in the first half, going what the hell is Jim Noel's doing on the outside and Cornelius Johnson in super slow motion dances down the sidelines against what should have been a 5 star secondary. But you called out Ohio State said you didn't see much fight tenacity. You said they pretty much quit in that fourth quarter. When you look at Michigan here, well, they have the same success trying to beat down a Purdue defense that quite frankly leaves an awful lot to be desired. So yeah, I mean, listen, the Michigan fans were not happy with us, even though we didn't have a I know Brad had some Ohio State. We didn't have Ohio State the side we had the total obviously and we felt really good. At the 7 28 mark. Ten to three. Third and 9. The 31 yard line that we were going to not have three scores in the remainder of that second quarter, but that's kind of been how about three 5 two and a half minutes that ended up ruining my fucking Saturday. So I think to Brad's point, we've obviously upgraded Michigan. I think 16 and a half is the right core number, but inevitably come 8 p.m. Saturday night, betters are going to pile on the Michigan, remembering the beatdown they put on Ohio State last week and because of that this has a chance to close something like 18. Aid O'Connell hasn't been with the team. He's with his family morning loss of his brother. So that has to be mentioned in factored and on the other side of the ball. Take nothing away from Michigan. They forced Ohio State to scream mercy and once Ohio State got punched back last week they quit. But I just don't again like laying points when the need for margin isn't there. I don't like laying three scores when you're coming off your biggest game and win of the season against your biggest rival. Those typically just don't bode well for me and we can't forget the fact that Blake Corman Mike Morris are still both injured and those are key cogs on each side of the ball and even Donovan Edwards came in with a cast on his hand. Last week, hit two explosives. But the man can't catch. He can't possess the ball in the proper hand. He literally just ran in a straight line two times the holes were so large. He had 2.8 yards per rush on the other 20 carries. And again, I know Michigan fans were happy as heck and let us all know that JJ McCarthy and the receiver group finally made plays downfield. And maybe that's the confidence that boost JJ McCarthy in Michigan to making a run here at the national championship. But I don't think for a second, Michigan played possum for 11 games in 23 minutes. After trailing to Rutgers in Illinois and suddenly broke out the goods at the 7 minute mark of the second quarter at the shoe. I don't think that happened. If you dig into the play by play data, Michigan gained 360 yards on 5 place. The other 54 offensive snaps from Michigan average three arts per play. So they lived on the explosive. And I will be interested to see if they can replicate that, but they're going to have an opportunity here. The boilermakers defense, they have

What's good, my dude? How are you? I'm chilling, you know? Just enjoying what we consider to be fall weather in Los Angeles, which is 65° in sunny during the day. People wearing parkos and stuff like that. Is it warmer here in Chicago than it is in is it really? How long is it there? Hold on, waiting for the weather to update. But it's a Daryl swensen as we talk about the weather here for a brief moment. But no, it's been, I mean, it's been in the, it's been in the 60s, 70s for like the last week or two. That's weird. Being slow, but like New York at 65 today, it's raining in New York, but the high 70. So the weather's been really warm. I think Midwest east coast looks a good sign. That sounds really promising for our long-term future. Oh no, it's 47 here in Chicago right now, but it'll get up to 60. So it is what it is. There we go. Chris, we were just talking off the air about the impending Michigan Ohio State clash that's coming this year. Michigan is in the top four of the college football playoff rankings, right? Yeah, they're number three right now. How confident are you feeling in their chances to a make the playoff be when the title this year? It basically comes down to a question of how confident are you that they're going to beat Ohio State? Because if they don't beat Ohio State, I feel like even though I think they might be good enough to make the playoff, I think that their schedule is going to screw them over. They played Hawaii, Colorado state, and some other kind of bum opponent. I think they pulled UCLA from their schedule a year or two ago that they would have played this year, which would have really helped. If they played them and beating them in the non conference, but I mean, honestly, it's weird. I feel like they look better than they did last year. Most of us weren't overly confident going into the Ohio State game last year. And then they kind of trounced them. So now how states going to be ready? They're playing at home. I'm a little bit curious how their quarterback JJ McCarthy will look in that game. He can really throw it. He's really athletic. I mean, I looked at the game that they played against Rutgers, it was kind of scary for one half. He had so many drops where he put the ball right on the receiver, he's like a gunslinger, but he's really accurate is the thing a lot of the time. And I felt like because it was Rutgers, they actually let him throw more. So I think Michigan will run the ball well. I think they'll defend pretty well and can still House state. I don't feel real confident that they're going to win, but I feel like they actually on paper kind of match up better than they did even last year.

"NetSuite dot com slash rich radio right now. NetSuite dot com slash rich radio NetSuite dot com slash rich radio. I have enjoyed this man's football calls for years, not just saying that because I sit next to him on Friday nights at NFL drafts this past year in previous, because he joins the NFL network's draft coverage every Friday night. Over the last couple of years, as a matter of fact, I think his first time was the Daniel Jones draft in Nashville. That's right. 'cause he came on the next day and trashed it. They did. He and Gus Johnson have the call of yet another Michigan game four games in a row for them on big Fox their noon kick-off, Michigan and Penn State. Joining us on the Mercedes Benz vans phone line, friend of the program Joel clap back here from Fox Sports, how you doing Joel? I'm great. How are you doing, bud? I'm doing great. Last time I saw you was in Vegas where we saw people have residencies in casinos across the street and all around us for the NFL Draft. Do you feel like are you the blue man group of Ann Arbor Michigan right now? Is that what you are? Is what's going on? Most likely, I just am not compensated as well as the blue maze was the Vegas. I think they're residency has been more lucrative than mine. I guess I should have said I just blew the line. The maize and blue man group. That's what you are. Yeah. You're working. Fourth straight appearance for Michigan on the big noon Fox game. And this is the biggest one of the four without a doubt. Clearly, it doesn't, it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. How do you see the Michigan Penn State matchup going down this week? Joel, going on. I think it is a fabulous matchup. I think they're very evenly matched. I love the changes that Penn State has made since last year. They struggled last year after starting. This is the second straight year we've seen them inside the top ten, 5 and O, to begin the year. And last year, they just didn't have the staying power because they didn't have the depth at quarterback. They suffered some injuries on the defensive line. And honestly, they're offense never materialized because of their inability to run the ball. And they've corrected all of those issues. And this is a much better team than I saw in the middle of the year a year ago. They can run the ball really well, rich with two young freshmen running backs. Nick singleton was the number one running back in the country in last year's recruiting cycle. He signs with Penn State and he's really transformed them and are offense. And what he's done is he's allowed a veteran quarterback and Sean Clifford to really be more of a game manager rather than having to be the catalyst as a playmaker in their offense and he manages the game pre snap now as good as anybody out there gets them into the right play and I think that's where he's best and he's flourishing. On the other side, what I can't wait to see is the next gear from Michigan. And this is the problem doing three straight Michigan games. They haven't had to go to even really force gear, rich. Even tied at ten at half last week. It was such an emotional experience because of what was happening with their coach Mike Hart, who is there running back coach if you don't know Mike Hart had a seizure last week on the sidelines in Indiana and they, you know, they had a hard time getting over that emotionally in the first half. And rightly so, by the way, but we haven't had to see them as a team really go into that even fourth year or certainly than 5th gear. And what I can't wait to see is does this team have that gear? Where are the wrinkles? Where are the little change ups? And we think that JJ McCarthy, their quarterback can take them to the next level offensively because of his potential. We just haven't seen it yet. And I think that we'll have to see it this week if they want to win the game. Why haven't we seen it yet? Joel, why? I don't think that they've needed to. And you know, I'm sure they're so rich. We joke about like, oh, you know, I'm taking a presidency. These coaches are like, get out of here. They keep getting asked by the media, the local media about things that I'm saying. Yeah. You know, so and of course, because I questioned the fact that they have two play callers. And then last week I said, hey, you know, they've got some real tendencies on offense. But the part of that is that they haven't had to break them. They haven't needed to go there. And so why break them, why put things on film that you can save for when you absolutely need them. I think that's a big reason. And then I think also the natural maturation of a young quarterback. JJ McCarthy is really talented and he has beginning to learn how to be a starting quarterback and not just a spot guy that goes in. Everyone tells me like, well, he's experiencing played last year. Yeah, but it's so different when you're the starter. The pressure, the yoke that you carry of the team is heavy. It's burdensome. And he is learning how to deal with that. More specifically, he's learning how to complete the ball down the field. He got a little better last week, but that's certainly going to have to increase if they want to take the next step be explosive creative and innovative offense and still have the ability to beat you up in the inside, running the football, which they've been able to do very well. Well, you know the drill Joel clad certainly from the perspective that I have and the rest of the Michigan fan base is every time I watch them, I just look for team speed. I look for who could replace Hutchinson and a jabo and they do have some pass rushers who have shown some significant ability over the past several weeks and Blake quorum looks fast and the offensive line looks like they can protect but everything is seen through the prism of whether they can go into the horseshoe in November and shock the world a second time. And I understand this is Penn State is very significant opponent top ten and all that. But

"Ryan, they can't go, hey, if you come here, there's a $4 million NIL deal waiting for you. He's not supposed to be able to do that. No coach in the country is supposed to be able to do that. But what he can do and what these collectives can do is link you up with people who can do business deals with you. And so that's the extent that a program can be involved with is just pointing you in the right direction. But they can't have any type of dealings with the money or actually setting up deals, but they can go, hey, there's something over your head or something. They're almost like a GPS telling you where to go. Let's get to the field because everyone knows it's going to be Alabama and Ohio State is probably the top two teams in the country. The buckeyes led by CJ Stroud. Give us an overview of what this team looks like to you. Yeah, obviously they've got arguably the best quarterback in the country depending on whether you live north of the mason Dixon line or not you might think it's price young with CJ Stroud. Jack has met in the jig, but it's one of the best wide receivers in the country along with Jordan Addison. Trevor Henderson is one of the best running backs in the country. There's already a lot of hype around Paris Johnson being the left tackle. Offensively, I think Ohio State can be exactly what it was last year. With an elite passing attack and I better run game and more versatile run game because last year it obviously did get stagnant when they placed it they played any defense with any level of a post who could stop a running game. But when you've got CJ strategies or quarterback with Jack be leading the way along with guys like Marvin Harrison junior who might be in for a breakout season and make a book and Julian Fleming might be in for a breakout season the offense should still be one of the best in the country and be a team that averages north of 40 points per game. Defensively is where I think it's interesting. There's reason for optimism around what Jim Knowles brings he had one of the best defenses in the country at Oklahoma state. So what happens when you give him top tier talent? But you still have to see it. There's not a lot of guys on the team who are proven superstars on the defensive side of the ball. There's a lot of if this hits with guys like JT two and below and Jack Sawyer on the defensive line and then obviously George Hancock didn't sell Burke, a healthy Josh proctor in the secondary. Last year, Michigan undid the buckeyes to a pretty severe tune. Michigan is supposed to be good this year. What is your assessment of the wolverines? That I understand why there's a reason why everybody thinks Michigan will still be good. But they're not Ohio State. They're not Alabama, they're not Georgia, where when you lose top ten of the draft picks, you just reload with the next top ten NFL Draft pick. So cade McNamara, JJ McCarthy the way they work that quarterback situation is that going to be how they work it this year or does JJ McCarthy as the former 5 star if we just take that job. I think Blake McCormick is one of the better running backs in the big tenant. So he should be quality once again along with Donovan Edwards coming into his second year, but the real question is, how do you replace the number two draft pick in the NFL and aid in Hutchinson? How do you replace David ajabo? They also lost the first round safety as well. So they lost some key pieces to that defense along with losing your defensive coordinator who went back to Baltimore. So I have to see it first. I don't think Michigan is going to fall right back off a cliff and be a 9 and three team. I still think that would be one of the more competitive games, but I also think that it would be irresponsible to think that because Michigan was able to wipe the floor with Ohio State last year the way they did because of some circumstances, that's going.

"Using misdirection using motions using some of the things that creates some issues, defensively, and so George is certainly going to have to be on point. They're going to have to communicate well. And they're going to have to align and play their assignments. Well, I do think that Josh gaddis has deserved that boils award. He's been fantastic, but on the other side of the ball, Mike McDonald, the defensive coordinator has done an equally good job. Perhaps even better taking a miserable defense Alaska couple years and turning them into one of the best in the country. So it's been a nice mix of veteran guys on that side of the ball with some freshmen. Including junior Coulson and rod Moore, who have been fantastic as I've kind of dived into the study for Michigan this week. Chris, it's almost become cliche. Every time we talk, we talked about this in Atlanta. We talked about it all year to talk about deaths in bed, but that conversation will not go away. So give us your view on his ability tomorrow night. What he has to do and is he up to it. You know what, it's been interesting. If all the talk all week and all the media availability for coach smarsh, how many times the media's ask him about how he's going to handle the quarterback position in both he and Todd monkey on your show, we're very adamant about the fact that stetson Ben is the quarterback. Now, if they can do what they've done all year long, which is take some shots early in the game build a lead and then lean on that run game lean on that offensive line in the second half of the game that's a great recipe for him to be the leader at the quarterback and win the game, but if they fall behind, like they did against Alabama, is he the best option for throwing the football and bringing them back from a deficit? I don't know if that's necessarily the case. I think JT Daniel says has handled things beautifully. I'm sure he's got to be frustrated with the fact that he's not getting an opportunity to lead this team when we saw him last he was fantastic, albeit against Vanderbilt's defense, but the scored 5 touchdowns in that first quarter, I do think there are some guys that are a little disenchanted with the fact that they're not being included in the downtown passing game as much. George pickens is one of those guys that last year was revitalized with JT Daniels came in the last four games of the season. So I do think it will be interesting how Todd monkey has herby smart shoes to handle the quarterback position. But I also think there's a cool debate about Michigan too, Michigan has used not only came McNamara, but has used JJ McCarthy to freshman has a nice compliment with his ability to run the football. I actually think that's going to be one of the keys is how you use McCarthy to create a little strain on the Georgia defense. Use some of that RPO stuff to help. Maybe put George in some conflict in terms of their assignments, defensively. So I think we could very easily see four quarterbacks being utilized in this game tomorrow night..

"Despite being a net negative 2% success rate against a pat Fitzgerald team that we have power rated just inside the top 90. Big win there. The next week, Minnesota comes to town. We are on the dog. We all cover awesome. Minnesota should have won the damn game outright. Out gained Iowa by a 132 yards in kinnock. Iowa was held to 277 yards a hundred of them came on two place, a broken coverage on a quick flip turnaround, and then a pass thrown three yards behind the line of scrimmage where three guys missed tackles and wide receiver ran it in. 177 total yards on every other play in that game. Give Iowa credit. Debut Illinois. Still couldn't exceed odds maker expectation in that game. And then last week against Nebraska, with a chance to go to the Big Ten championship game. Win and apply pressure on Wisconsin. Iowa was down 21 to 6 with a minute to go in the third quarter to a backup quarterback named Logan smothers. Nebraska does what Nebraska does in implodes late. I will locate the horseshoe up there as one more time with a non offensive touchdown. And they win the game despite being a net negative 10% in success rate. And also lost the net EPA per play battle. For the last 6 games, iOS either been drugged in the advanced box or didn't exceed odds maker expectation in every single one of their games. So the number in matchup would typically dictate a play on Michigan this week against Iowa. The problem is the information I'm getting at least as of now Wednesday morning, as I was going to be the side. Michigan, we obviously know as you alluded to biggest win in the harbor era. Over its biggest rival. Michigan is in the driver's seat for the college football playoff. There is no need for style points just went. No need to run it up, just went. And then laying ten and a half 11 points in a game with a total of 43 and a half is typically a difficult proposition. So that's kind of where I am on this game. I'm not quite sure, I think Iowa stinks. I think they're worse than what their metrics indicate and it's why, even though I'm not as high in Michigan as others, I still see value in Michigan because of the number 13, but it's virtually impossible. To play Michigan after last week. It's just very difficult. And you hate to say that, right? But you're typically not going to win money laying double digits with a total of 43 and a half after that team just had their biggest win in a decade. So I'm kind of off this game altogether. But it's probably not going, I guess my point here eventually comes in from the guys that I speak with. It's probably going to be a game where I just pass into I'm on the sidelines. How the fact you haven't been able to quantify the fairy dust that Iowa plays with on a weekend week out basis this season is beyond me. When you look at a team that's plus 13 in turnovers, they've scored 6 non offensive touchdowns to their opponent zero. And the fact that they're starting average field position is at the 36 yard line. I guess goes to show what this team has been able to accomplish and it reminds me an awful lot of Chicago Bears. And Matt nagy's first season where the offense didn't have to do much because the defense set them up for success. So we'll see early on in this game of Michigan can remain as versatile offensively as we've seen because that's one thing that kept coming out in a lot of the reading for this game. The Michigan talked about how opposing defenses can't key on just one player for this team, whether it's a son Haskins last week with 5 touchdowns, Blake coram before he was dealing with a foot injury. Eric all and what he brings to the tight end spot or a guy like Donovan Edwards who caught ten balls for a 170 yards and their win against Maryland. This Michigan offense is a lot more dynamic than I think they're giving credit for. And we'll have to see not for just this week, but if it was a changing of the guard with that dominant performance against Ohio State and they're able to bridge the gap going forward against the scarlet and gray in the Big Ten east. It's lining up very well for next year. That's for sure. JJ McCarthy, you mentioned Edwards, who is just a fantastic back and his versatility is really given that offense and pop. And so all of a sudden, when you're looking out wide and you're saying, you know, there's not a ton of great weapons yet. That can crush you outside for Michigan. You do have some nice tight ends and coram and Edwards catching the ball out of the backfield has been absolutely ridiculous. And so that's probably a good place to focus there is I always got a great defense and typically you're not going to want to run your head into a brick wall. And the secondary is good. But I think there are some advantages there where you can get Edwards and coram out in the past game on those linebackers, which appear to be a touch a touch slow to my eye. And so maybe that's where Michigan does have the advantage. And again, the one thing I was feasted on is great field position, being able to turn teams over and Michigan's fantastic and special teams and they don't turn the ball over. So you're really kind of looking for ways I was able to score in this game now. Maybe just Michigan's flat as a board, it's just difficult to see that being the case knowing what's on the line here. Suddenly that win last week really loses its luster if you're ousted from the college football playoff and don't have a chance at a championship run. It should be an interesting game for sure from Indy. We'll see if Michigan can finally get their monkey off the back and play for one of the biggest prizes in all of college football. 6 Marquis games to keep your eyes on across Friday and Saturday. I know we didn't have a chance to get to some of the group of 5 matchups that are fascinating in their own right with Bailey zappy in the high powered western Kentucky hilltop or offense, going to take on UT San Antonio Appalachian state looking for a little bit of revenge against Lafayette, but the reality of it is there aren't enough hours in the day for us to deep dive every single game on the docket.
