Michael Bloomberg — shiny new pebble or fool's gold?

"When the former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg decided not to run for the US President in twenty sixteen. He said it was because he was unsure of whether America was ready to be run by a white white billionaire mogul. Well that's the Bloomberg could have another go. This worried that there's no clear Democrat candidate to beat Donald Trump will tell us more uh. La Bureau chief collateral Rabelo a very warm. Welcome back to the program. Collage tell us about Bloomberg and his bid. How serious is this is because by all accounts since two thousand and eight that has not been a presidential election without speculation that might Michael Bloomberg might run? Yes and what's important to get right here. Is that this move by Michael. Bloomberg doesn't mean that he's necessarily definitely running now at this point he's just keeping his options Sion's open. He's ensuring that whenever he eventually makes that decision he is allowed to run if he chooses to do so so hard that he has filing the paperwork work that is needed while he has filed the paperwork that is needed to become a candidates in the Democratic primary in Alabama which is a state that had the earliest filing wiling at deadline. His Adviser Stole The New York Times at the end of last week. That Bloomberg will decide for sure whether Ron within a matter of days and not weeks except now up there are a couple of things here. That are interesting I is how late this announcement is coming. And the electoral calendar there are fewer than and three months to go before the Iowa caucus and even since the mid nineteen seventies. The latest a potential nominee has ever launched his or. Her presidential campaign was by August of the year before the election than we are now in November if Bloomberg decides to make this one official before the end of the month and then as you mentioned in your question we need to ask why this change If you call him a Bloomberg announced back in March this year that he would not run for president and now it all seems to point executive that fact that he's worried about The Way Democratic primary is unfolding out so far and even as early as last month he had mentioned that he would perhaps consider a run. If Joe Biden. This is the former vice president Joe. Oh Biden decided to drop out of the race but all in all. If Bloomberg does end up running he'll have to scramble to make it to the debate stage so that people beyond his supporters know about his agenda and what he represents and we also need to take into account the growing unpopularity of billionaires among the left wing of the Democratic Party. The party does need to question whether or not Bloomberg's Ron. Ron will do more harm than good at this point in the race when the ultimate goal is to eventually defeat Donald Trump so there are worries that he actually him standing up against is going to split the center. But let's look at the other candidates on where we are with the polls Joe Biden's in trouble which is a huge issue The the campaigns have Bernie Sanders and particularly Elizabeth. Warren are not going that well actually Bloomberg has repeatedly attacked Elizabeth Warren. So he's coming into a failed which is already rather bad tempered and and not really putting a strong candidate. It isn't tape no and he is exactly as you described with the Bloomberg entering during the race. And we're ignoring a big factor. Here which is there's an argument that a lot of people say he is not a Democrat. He is more of a Republican than Democrat. But that's a whole different conversation but if we take into account Michael Bloomberg entering the race now the center of the party disappears and the problem. That's that's the Democrats have been facing. which is you have candidates on? Two extreme ends of the political agenda within the same party with Bloomberg entering during this. That divide was only deepen you will. You will have the same party Eh. One of the country's most known billionaires regardless of the fact that he has of course Experienced running public office running the biggest city in the country in New York City but he is one of the most known billionaires to and then you have on the other end. Candidates are advocating for a huge tax on people such Just as Mike Bloomberg so it will it regardless of who the candidate ends up being. You take the risk of eliminating a lot of the voters Not necessarily to vote for trump perhaps not vote at all because it seems like the identity of the Democratic Party does not exist and that was the main issue in two thousand sixteen and it just seems like a repetition ministry again which is a shame if you're a Democrat because actually last week Votes in Virginia and Kentucky seemed to indicate that in principle the Democrats are on the the the the recovery. Oh yes if you look at the results from us. We Cut The conclusion is that the Democrats are on a winning streak in Kentucky Talkie as Democrats. Andy here defeated The Republican Governor Matt Bevin and this was by a very thin margin and for over a day a Bevan refused to even concede. We're talking about five thousand votes. That decided this result wishes shows just how polarized it is right here. This is state up trump won by a margin of thirty points in two thousand sixteen so it just shows how the tide released turning and of course in many ways. It's victory is indeed significant particularly. Because you know Bevan ran a national campaign Consistently linking himself to president trump and not only. The trump makes several several statements supporting him. He even held a last minute rally with Macbeth into former Kentucky governor in the net for to ensure this reelection that now we we know didn't happen and if you look at Virginia the Democrats should take it as a big victory for the party This is the first time since nineteen ninety-three three that the Democrats won control of both chambers in the state legislature and governor and this has is allowing them to kind of redraw the the states legal boundaries legislative boundaries after the census are happening next year and it can help pave the way to solidify Virginia Jinya as a blue state from now on color. Avello on the line from Los Angeles thank you very much indeed for joining us on the

I yesterday after the program, I spoke with James O'Keefe Project Veritas. He has this is a bombshell, what he discovered a year and a half in the making evidence admitted evidence from a high ranking, Google employees that they are alluding. with democrats to shape the outcome of the twenty twenty election she admits it that they're not gonna have another trump situation like we haven't twenty sixteen here's real collusion this is real obstruction this is google they're going to do this with their search algorithms and any number of other things to diminish conservative presents conservative search answers that are that are positive in nature and by the same token there gonna promote as much as they can democrat issues and the eventual democrat nominee and so he releases the video couple days ago and the person he caught in the in the secret videos that guy that was just i was just a conversation doesn't mean anything and she pulled down her accounts and they also own youtube so they pulled the video they pulled the o'keefe video off of youtube when it was in the process of skyrocketing to a million views they pulled it down after fifty thousand pure unadulterated censorship so i talked to keep about it yesterday i'm gonna play some of the highlights of the interview it's it's for the next issue of the limbaugh letter and and he tweeted out after the interview yesterday said this is the greatest indictment of u._s. journalism in generation tech sources oh this is key he whistle blowers the got onto this because there couple of people at least a couple inside google who called him secretly got hold of and said look there's some really bad stuff going on here they're trying to affect the election they're trying to screw the republic real collusion google and of course they had over one hundred meetings.

"Wrong way to go to one of the reasons. She's one of the ways she's trying to stave that office. She's telling anybody who will listen that Trump wants to be impeached, begging us to envision is as the do it. She's trying to convince people that Trump wants to be impeached, because he knows it will strengthen his reelection bid, it'll show the Democrats over reaching way out of touch. She's trying to talk the lunatics inter-party down and out from impeachment while not doing that. She's trying to make them think it's only a matter of time it's going to happen, but the president's covering things up until the president's more straightforward with us. We can't move forward with this deranged. It is it is striking to watch this. But then, of course, the mitigating fact. There is the media not reporting it this way at all. They're reporting it from the exact opposite standpoint that Pelosi, the Democrats are the ones being reasonable that Trump's Dila criminal probably did, collude still can't find the evidence but it's out there Trump obstructed because he knows the evidence he colluded is there doesn't want anybody to find it Trump's losing his mind because they eat thought he got away with it. Now they won't let it go because they know he's still that's the way they're covering it in the drive bys that Trump remains the problem in the meanwhile, my friends, there is so much news out there. There is literally reams of it. That is not being reported, for example. I don't know if you've heard this or not. Wrath know, them, the governor of Jinya, who has admitted to Posen in a yearbook from medical school in black face, as in a menstrual show. He admitted it he has been cleared of doing it by investigating board. At the school, despite him admitting that he had done. Did it the investigating born say he didn't do it? And so case close Ralph no them free now to kill babies after they on and did not appear in black face in the democrat investigations, get closed out this Ralph nor them investigation just took a couple of months, and even though he admitted that he did it. The investigative body said Nope, he didn't do it and investigation is over. The Trump economy is another story roaring on despite all these efforts by the Democrats tone it down. Anyway, break. I'm up. Guess it.

People are again talking about slavery reparations

"The subject of reparations for slavery has now entered the presidential contest democratic candidates repeatedly asked about this subject. Supporters of some sort of reparations often point to the fact that the United States has paid them in the past the legislation that I am about to sign provides for restitution payment to each of the sixty thousand survivors, of course, former president Ronald Reagan there with that law the nation, formerly apologized to Japanese Americans for their internment in World War Two and provided token monetary compensation the debate over reparations for slavery is our topic that we're covering this week s Cokie segment and commentator Cokie Roberts is here with us. I koki. Hi, David first listener, we have a MandA Trammell. She wants to know whether all this talk of reparations is something new there ever been a serious discussion about reparations for slavery in the pet. Absolutely. A former congressman John Conyers introduced legislation in every congress from nineteen eighty nine. On to establish a commission to study and develop reparation proposals for African Americans. It was reintroduced on the first day of the current congress by Texas congresswoman, Sheila jackson-lee, some form of what you might call reparations actually dates back to the end of the civil war when general Sherman promised land, freed slaves that came to be called, forty acres immutable like many such promises it was later, broken slave owners and the district of Columbia, however were compensated when the enslaved people in the capital refrained before general emancipation will we have another listener it's Eggers. And she wanted to know what has happened to all these other efforts to achieve reparations have attempt for reparation happened before in the US. Well, as you said earlier in nineteen eighty eight a law was passed giving living Japanese Americans who had been in intern not their states twenty thousand tax free dollars each but more important to the supporters. Of the Bill was the formal apology by the government and in nineteen seventy one the Alaskan native settlement act gave native peoples to title, more than forty million acres of land and did establish a fun to somewhat compensate them for lands and rights. They had lost in nineteen Ninety-three. President Clinton signed the apology resolution to native Hawaiians for overthrowing the islands. Monarchy cook, I'm just curious have all the efforts that we've seen or talked about been federal or have there been local or other kinds of of reparations. Well, we saw last week Georgetown University students of voting to establish a fund for the descendants of the enslaved people at Georgetown who had been sold by the university, and you have states and some cities that have in fact, inactive reparations, but for very specific wrongdoings. So for Jinya, for example, pay the survivors of its forced sterilizations program and granted scholarships to the residents who have. Been denied in education when the schools were closed during the fight over immigration, Florida gave a substantial sum to the victims of the nineteen Twenty-three horrible rosewood massacre where an entire African American community was burned to the ground. But David there's so many other atrocities that are still being

It's time for shirt removal that it's such a good point. Thank you. Sean triple g. Michael in Chicago is going to break me, and I plead guilty. Go ahead. Michael. Dennis. Are you talking to me? I am indeed. Okay. I was for years a diehard union man within my local preached to buy my union. How vile the Republican party platform was? And over the last ten years. The reason you do Donald Trump is a lot of us have come to the realization with the Democratic Party platform. Do not us in any way, shape or form constitutionalist within our own union division is. We'll just go with a basic topic gun rights versus gun rights and the talking points. Are the Democrats are gonna come and take your firearms? Don't worry about it. They will that there's other things that they're going to do is. We just learned with governor Pritzker state, Illinois, one of the first answer legislation was to women magazine sizes, and what they call a if the Democrats could they would absolutely confiscate guns. There is no question that is the world in which they envisioned by the way. When I said that he would berate me because what is written on here. By the screener is surprised you that is Dennis say there's no rebellion against liberal after all he voted for Trump easy. Right. That's why I said he bereavement Uber. Raven me. There is a rebellion. I was referring to anybody who was not on the right? But there are people moving to the right, obviously in a great number of them to the shock of the left. That's why do you understand that is why the left must constantly say, we're racist, and homophobic and haters the understand. Because if they had to win arguments, they would lose every single election. They can only win by depicting those who oppose them as evil. They are much closer to evil than we are. We're nicer than them. It's just a fact are they're exceptions is an exception to every rule including seatbelts. Save lives. They're mean, folks, they're just mean. And the governor thing in Virginia for this low-life governor, even though I think what his comments on abortion. It's something we differ on abortion. It's what he said, it's mind blowing. And the coherence of what he said. Well, if it's born that's resuscitated in the mother wants it resuscitated then. It was astonishing. It was pretty close to infanticide. But putting that aside he what really what really shows that there is karma. That he's getting what he what he the seeds of his own destruction was putting out an ad is opponent in a close race for governor of Jinya with a truck going to mow down aiming to mow down minority kids in the neighborhood running away from the truck with a confederate flag. This is exactly the New York Times. Does it? They all do it. There's no leftist that does not engage in scummy vilification of people that they oppose. Because without it. There is no left victory. Everyone is six. Herb sexist intolerance. Zena fall become a phobic Islamic racist, bigoted, islamophobic, racist bigoted that is. That is it. We're all that. That is how they have to portray us. They are teaching kids not to deal with arguments. But to dismiss opponents decency, that's what they're teaching your kid at college. But maybe your kid is an abbreviated won't get affected. "Thirty minutes we were talking during the break about the job. Rick Barnes has done. Not not getting the the Zion. Williamson type of recruiting classes that coach K is in getting heat building a team. And let's find out more about that as Tennessee. It's ready to take on Arkansas on ESPN two Damian fish back is in the house. David, thanks for the time. You know, first of all how is rig Barnes done it? But we all know he's got a great team this year. But he's done it in an unconventional way. In in today's world of college basketball. He has done it in an unconventional way. Paul. But I think that's why a lot of other coaches respect him and admire him and had been commending him so much. I mean, the conference call was almost all about coach Rick Barnes this week. So many other coaches in the lead is talking about the job that he has done. And I and I'll tell you this. I spoke with him yesterday in practice, and I said are you ready to receive your coach of the year war, and guess what? His response was. Right. You could talk about coach v line at Michigan and coach karma Davis at old miss. But he said, you know, what look at what coach rice drew was going through in the job that he is doing with the loss of Darius garland. He said those are the years in the type of people that really should receive the type of coach of the year war. And I think that just exemplifies the humility and the reason why so many people love coach Barnes. Let's talk about this team. Because I mean, they're they're no longer just a hot new. The you hear some people say this could be the best team in the country. How good or how good is Tennessee? They're definitely as good as anybody in the country, Paul. I mean, let's let's call a spate of spe. They were up nine with just two or three minutes left against Kansas. And that's when as a Buki was still playing, right? Brent Williams found out in the basketball game. And so as you look at all. The other conferences, you can look at Michigan. Not like Michigan Alon. I think John tests is the key to them. John tuskegee. He's a big guy that I think the link could possibly give Tennessee some problems. They your Simpson a great point guard. You look at Duke when they're healthy. But they're not healthy right now. Trae Jones is is a key to their basketball team. You look at for Jinya, right? They they've got a good matchup against Virginia Tech. I wouldn't put Tennessee up there with any of those seem without any hesitancy. And I don't think the country will be surprised or object to the volunteers being number one in the country. They have balanced they have a coat with final four coaching experience. And let's remember if towel Alexander doesn't go down last year Tennessee's possibly the team. That's going to the final four in the previous season. It's always it's always dangerous even in mid-january talked about the final four, but but the way they played I it's it's hard to imagine, you know, without knowing the matchups and all that that this team. Isn't going to be knocking on the door? Komo paul. I need you to get involved in getting side on early. That's me. I've never I watched the game the other night. And and you know, I I was at Tennessee when when they had their last great duo. And I've seen Tennessee basketball to top. And of course, they've had run since then, of course, under Bruce and other coaches, but it looks like the real deal. Now, I I would say this. You're exactly right because I was talking with coach Mike Anderson is morning. And he says even when coach Barnes was at Texas. He never had a team that was like this. There was built that had the balance that they have they've got three or four guys that can score twenty plus points. You got a guy like Jordan Bowden who scored twenty plus points in his first couple of SEC games off the bench. You got thrown plane as good as he never played. And then everybody knows about peanut butter and jelly grant Williams in Admiral Scofield, this team has as much balance as much depth as much quality death at as much toughness..

"I think four of them on the road for Jinya had to play four of them on the road and North Carolina line only had to play two of them on the road and one of them was already in the rear view mirror. And so my point was no North Carolina's not as good as Duke or for Jinya, but North Carolina, Mike it right up there with Duke and Virginia based on the way, the schedule is laid out still possible, by the way, but as I said, the Carolinas weird and the can just create scenarios results in patterns that we wouldn't expect. And maybe there's balance like you think maybe you'll see what a lost or should've lost at UNC NC state. Sorry. And then it comes home and loses a Louisville so one that but the way it lost. At Louisville's also concerning overall. Talent wise. I mean team is still good. But can you trust you and see I guess I guess that's what I left Saturday after I watched that game. Can you trust this team? And I think it's going to it's going to have to take a while if we're ever going to get there doesn't mean that they won't win or you shouldn't necessarily put a few few pounds or coins on them occasionally for feeling good. But in the big picture can you trust this team? I don't think you can say yes to that in any way right now. What's weird because they do have massive winds? Like, I said the when it gets the win at NC state, but ROY has never liked this team or he's never talked positively about this team earlier in the season. I also think that ROY like a lot of coaches, but ROY in particular because he's been attached to these vertical spills and there's been shots of him occasionally over the years of just like dropping to a knee. He gets like his blood will boil sometimes during a game. And I'm sure he's got a fine physician that talks about the stuff, and he might not be able to control it when you're when you're down fifteen at home to Louisville, and you know, you've got no business doing that. I think is something that's a little bit hard to control doesn't mean that he shouldn't be trying to do it..

"For Jinya has to play road games against four of them. Going forward. Duke has to play road games against four of them going forward. UNC only has road games against two of them total and one of them was last night. So they've only got one more road game against a current top twenty kin pomp team, whereas Duke in Virginia have four each. And so I really do think we might. And this is why some ACC fans like sorta roll their eyes at the idea of ACC regular season titles. But as long as they hang banners for them. And as long as they put them on a coach's Wikipedia page. The more talk about them. North Carolina might end up sharing at least in perhaps winning simply because the sca- the schedule unbalanced is advantageous for the tar heels going forward that might be true. But conference play has has a reliable way of getting walkie. And you know, as other teams will as well h- UNC has one stretch coming up in January were three of four or away from home. There's another stretch later in the season four of six or away from home. And that includes games at Clemson at Duke think it's entirely possible. UNC drops both of those. So with what you provided. I will I will make a slight amendment like research parish. I'll say two games behind. They can do it. But I don't I don't find it to be all that likely. I am going to maintain. My pickup Virginia finishing the top the league if you want to default that to say they're going to win the ACC that's final stick with that. I think it's a tire plausible that Duke and Virginia wind up with the same amount of losses in league play. And I'll settle at that being too by the way in finish atop the ACC, but UNC's right there, and I consider you see a final four threat. No doubt about it. They're deserving sit at that table. They've maintained strong standing across many metrics as we've gone along and Duke UNC Virginia see matere separated, I know Virginia Tech's close, but we talked about in the previous podcast how they're missing some pieces actually think that just bump them just a little bit there..

This point it would go towards roof repairs and replacement as opposed to school safety even though school safety is our number one priority in school any idea how many teachers might take up this option. To carry a gun in class the thing that we said publicly. And. This was. In our review? That. We did, as well as what we, presented to the, school board in July at that point we had, thirty seven individuals not just teachers staff members also who were interested in this program it's intended to be totally voluntary. Individual we go through to background checks a, drug screen as well as a psychological evaluation that is equivalent to what an individual would go through for law enforcement I say what's the reaction from the community Generally very supportive I think most of our residents realize we're trying to be very fiscally? Responsible with everything we do but then also almost secondary community we have a concealed carry permit is allowed in the Commonwealth of Virginia and I'm gonna. Say frankly that, several of our staff members have to make, a conscious effort not to carry on schoolwork property. Of course that's a violation of the. Code of Virginia unless it's part of a program which is what we're providing any so many people in the community have guns and they just haven't been. Able to, bring them to school until now Yes ma'am we. Are a very rural community in the Commonwealth of Virginia we are a. Very agricultural based community so, familiarity with both guns and gun safety is paramount to our community now you must know nationally you. Know some, teachers unions really strongly opposed arming teachers in classes the head of the national, Education Association has called it ill conceived pastas dangerous and critics say it doesn't, really do anything to prevent gun violence what do you say to that Well frankly I think that I walk in and hand firearm t. o. three hundred of our teachers would. Be, beyond. Absurd some of our staff would feel forced into that and. They don't have I'm gonna say the. Proficiency nor the training nor the desire to do that but when parkland. Happened, coach was shot while, he was, proud to protect us students we had the incident in. Indiana where the young teacher was trying to defend his students and, got shot. And some school, board started issuing buckets rocks and Batson we thought. We could do better than that Never junior governor Ralph, Northam has denounced the planned there have been questions I gather, about its legality the state attorney general's offices Virginia law prohibits guns in schools with a few narrow exceptions. Have you heard from the state and is this planet. Actually going to be able to go forward At this point we haven't officially heard from the attorney. General's office we feel. Like. In conversations. With. Our school. Board attorney in a number of. Other attorneys say that we have found an exception. That fits within those narrowly, defined parameters, of local school board being able to develop a. Program Brian Austin is the superintendent? Of Lee county in Virginia thank you very much okay.
